- 1:00What's up race fans welcome into the Monday Night Rewind On top
- 1:04of Racing media presented by ELH Detailing and Federated Auto
- 1:08Parts. You'll look back at the weekend
- 1:10and your interview show around Michiana Motorsports.
- 1:13My name is Buju. Sometimes a race car driver,
- 1:15sometimes an announcer. Host of the Monday Night Rewind,
- 1:18host of the Thursday Night Throttle, host of the Bullring
- 1:22Chronicles and joined as always on the Monday Night Rewind
- 1:25tonight live on top of our racing media by Lewis Noakes.
- 1:28How we doing, Lewis? Ask me later.
- 1:33Or do you want the lie? Which one do you want?
- 1:38How's the how's the on the show version of Louis doing?
- 1:42So you want the lie? I'm doing great today.
- 1:45How about you? Great and great.
- 1:48Both versions are doing OK today.
- 1:50Even for a Monday, we're doing all right.
- 1:52Yeah, well, I'm excited for the show.
- 1:54So, you know, I'm really excited because I'm a big fan of Taylor
- 1:58and so having someone of her caliber on and everything that
- 2:01she's done, getting her, you know, getting to watch her grow
- 2:03over the last couple years and a lot of different roles, you
- 2:06know, that's why I'm super excited for, you know, turning
- 2:09off from the weekend because it's been a rough weekend like
- 2:12everywhere. And I've not been on Facebook
- 2:15much today. I'll just say that because it's
- 2:18depressing, it's exhausting, and it makes me fun to say
- 2:22everything's for sale. So, you know, it's one of those
- 2:25things that, you know, I, I feel bad, you know, when you care
- 2:28about stuff, and I know you're super passionate about racing,
- 2:31right? And when you care about stuff,
- 2:32you care about people, you care about the tracks, right?
- 2:35It's just, you see it all and it's just.
- 2:38Yeah, it's exhausting, right? And, and, but I got to make an
- 2:44autism logo. We have an autism awareness
- 2:47night at Kalamazoo. Jew Jack called me around 11
- 2:50today and said, hey, can you make this?
- 2:52I need to do this today. And I don't know if he saw the
- 2:56look that I gave him because we were on the phone, but I'm kind
- 2:59of thinking like, bro, I already have enough on my plate right
- 3:03now between full, full programs and all the on boards.
- 3:06But sure, why not? I'll do that for you.
- 3:09And so I did it while we were on the phone.
- 3:12We were talking and I was making a logo at the same time.
- 3:14So 'cause if there you go, better do it now while I'm in
- 3:17the program or talking. But, but other than that, I'm
- 3:21excited for that. You know, we've done that a
- 3:24couple years with autism awareness.
- 3:25Lot of tracks do something for autism awareness.
- 3:28And that's why I don't know if you saw it, but I used the
- 3:31Infinity symbol because that's more representative.
- 3:35The community went with that symbol a few years ago.
- 3:39Old school, you can tell old school, it's the puzzle, right?
- 3:42So who probably watched the Drew Carey Show and Mala's Family and
- 3:47you know, that kind of deal probably use the puzzle pieces.
- 3:50But infinity's more representative, although not
- 3:54official symbol, but more representative of the messaging
- 3:59between the, you know, behind the autism.
- 4:01So I thought let's let's use the Infinity symbol to Figure 8 can
- 4:05kind of make it look overly. Yeah, yeah, we, we participated
- 4:09in the national Compact 2 Ring series Down syndrome program
- 4:14that they ran at M40 last year. I know that's a little different
- 4:16than the autism thing, but obviously, but just so it's a
- 4:18it's such a cool program Do we had Zach with us for the
- 4:21afternoon at M40 in it. That's just such a such a cool
- 4:24thing that and Andy does a lot for the autism and the Down
- 4:27syndrome awareness type events. And yeah, it's a lot of, it's
- 4:30cool that a lot of tracks are joining in on that trend because
- 4:33it is a very, it's a good opportunity to get a new
- 4:36audience out to the racetrack and somebody's going to enjoy it
- 4:38a lot. So yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 4:40Well, and as someone who obviously worked for many years
- 4:43with people with disabilities, right, it's one of those things
- 4:45that, you know, it's one of my olds to, you know, advocate,
- 4:50right, and also educate, you know, as I can, you know,
- 4:53without, you know, making people feel like they don't know.
- 4:55But you know, we just we live in a world where there, you know,
- 4:58nobody's walking around, you know, on their forehead anywhere
- 5:02with the stamp that says I have a disability, right?
- 5:05You know, they're the sometimes you can kind of tell, right?
- 5:09Witcher was funny yesterday because he was doing something.
- 5:11So I said, how are you so creative?
- 5:13Because he was in character, not a character, right.
- 5:16So, you know, when we when it's just talking with, you know,
- 5:20people, right, he's out of character and and I'm like, how
- 5:22do you, how do you come up with all this?
- 5:24And he's like, think some of it might be autism, you know, and
- 5:28I'm like, I haven't picked up any that might suggest you have
- 5:31that, but it possible, right? Because he's not, you know, no
- 5:34one walks around with that. But but it's definitely
- 5:38something that, you know, I appreciate when tracks do that.
- 5:40They I wish sometimes and I know it's super difficult for them,
- 5:44but like while you're doing this, like can we get community
- 5:47organizations out like K reset kind of you know, to the track
- 5:51and having something other programs are like when Bering
- 5:55county, we have lighthouse Education Center, we have
- 5:58blossom land Learning Center, like can we educate, you know,
- 6:02because you know, Michigan actually, I know Michigan gets
- 6:05crapped down a lot for a lot of different things, but you know,
- 6:08but Michigan has one of the best special education program and
- 6:11laws in the in the nation. We, you know, we do above and
- 6:15beyond what the federal law requires, where some other
- 6:17states go, like Florida goes below what the federal law
- 6:21requires. And so it's like there are a lot
- 6:23of services and a lot of things for parents and others in
- 6:27Michigan, but a lot of times people don't know where to find
- 6:29that. And so it's one of those things
- 6:31that, you know, it's like, I know they maybe don't always
- 6:35know where to look or where to go to, but I always start with,
- 6:38well, what's your county RISA or ISD in Indiana, their Isds.
- 6:43But you know, it's like, who's your county resource?
- 6:46And from there you can branch out.
- 6:48So and there's tons on the state of Michigan website too.
- 6:50So I'm excited for that. So doing that, you know, got got
- 6:53to do something different. But then I'm running behind on
- 6:56editing everything. So I'm like, it'll be a long
- 7:01night. But but yeah, I just don't go on
- 7:05Facebook as you said though. Good show to know.
- 7:09Yeah, we do have a good There you go.
- 7:11There you go. That's that's a good reason to
- 7:13be on Facebook. We do have a good show tonight,
- 7:15though. I mean, like I said, I don't.
- 7:17Yeah, go ahead. Seven O 5 Obviously we're I'm
- 7:21about to bring on Taylor, so I hopefully she's a little more
- 7:24relaxed now she's got the sunshine behind her.
- 7:28So you know, I'm excited to bring her on and then I do and I
- 7:31know Chris just popped into the chat area down below.
- 7:35So he's kind of hanging out in the staging area.
- 7:37And we're going to be talking about the new pair Speedway
- 7:39survivor 180, which is a three hour enduro this Saturday.
- 7:43So if you have a night of destruction car or got and go
- 7:46car and you can find 3 racers or anybody is just need 3, you know
- 7:52who wants to come out and race? It's they're going to they're
- 7:55not using the Figure 8 track, but they're using it's like a
- 7:57kidney bean or whatever you want to call it.
- 8:00So they're going to be doing that for as many laps.
- 8:03So whoever logs the most laps, whatever team logs the most laps
- 8:06wins the race and and that three hour duration, not including red
- 8:09flags or anything. So that'll be new pair Speedway.
- 8:11So I asked Chris to come on and talk a little bit more about
- 8:15that just in case people want to jump in the car.
- 8:19It's $100 to register. We have all the details later
- 8:22on. So definitely if if no one has
- 8:24plans on Saturday and they want to do an enduro, there's not any
- 8:28night instructions this week as far as I know.
- 8:30Come on out to New Paris and do that.
- 8:32So we'll talk about that. And then don't forget the
- 8:34Thursday night throttle does return because I'm not at
- 8:38Hartford like I was last Thursday when we would have had
- 8:40the throttle. So definitely with the Thursday
- 8:42night throttle gives a preview of the upcoming weekend.
- 8:45We have a huge show at Kalamazoo on Friday night, kind of talked
- 8:48about autism apart, but obviously the holiday models are
- 8:51racing for 7500 wins. So that'll be a huge event.
- 8:55And then I know at Russell's M40 Speedway, they have the Judgment
- 9:00Day St. Stock race, and with New Paris
- 9:02off and I think Angola's off and a couple others, that there's
- 9:07got to be a lot of cars that are probably looking for a place to
- 9:09race on Saturday. So definitely could be an option
- 9:11to go to. But other than that, if you're
- 9:14ready, we can bring on Taylor. Yes Sir, sorry, I fixed my
- 9:18microphone here. There's technical difficulties
- 9:21in the Boujee Studio. All right, so joining us will be
- 9:25Taylor Sexton from Sexton Motorsports, who's also the race
- 9:28director for the National Compact Touring Series Kalamazoo
- 9:31Mini Wedges. And I feel like I'm forgetting
- 9:35other things. Obviously does fast way
- 9:36creations and amazing stuff. So we'll make sure she gets all
- 9:39of her titles going on, but other than that, how are you
- 9:41doing, Taylor? Good.
- 9:43How are you? Oh hey, I mean, it's Monday and
- 9:46it's sunny before the hot, so can't, I guess we can't really
- 9:50complain about that. Maybe tomorrow we can.
- 9:53Do you like the hot temperature? Are you kind of like a coolish?
- 9:57I'm like fall weather. I don't like the hot.
- 10:01Yeah, so starting tomorrow, you might feel the same way that I
- 10:04do then that like, I mean, I don't want to be cold, but you
- 10:08know, if I wanted to live in Florida, I'd move to Florida.
- 10:10So, you know, and it's going to be like Florida and it's like,
- 10:14no, that's not a that's not a thing for me.
- 10:16So. But but other than that, I
- 10:18definitely appreciate you coming on.
- 10:21I know when I asked you on Friday, like, hey, you know,
- 10:23like I've been thinking for a while about asking you and you
- 10:27know, just because I, I know, you know, I'm a big fan of yours
- 10:30and what you do. And, and so I'm really excited
- 10:33to have you on because there's so much that you do and have
- 10:35done that short track spotlights and driver spotlights just can't
- 10:39capture it all in 2000 words. So now we have a platform that
- 10:43we can, you know, expand on those.
- 10:44And so for those who are watching who may not know who
- 10:47Taylor Sexton is, we have a, we have an audience, you know, from
- 10:51all over and, and get a lot of views.
- 10:54I mean, we get a, we're almost at 100 Buju, did you know we're
- 10:56almost at 100,000 total views in our in all of our episodes?
- 11:00I didn't sounds good to me though.
- 11:03That's about 50,000 more than others in the same time frame.
- 11:06But anyways, not that anyone's doing the math like I am, but
- 11:10Taylor, tell us who you are. So I guess we'll start off.
- 11:15I'm a female race car driver. I race out mainly at Kalamazoo
- 11:19Speedway. I traveled a little bit to
- 11:22Springport. Then on top of that, I come from
- 11:28a background in racing. My dad, my aunt and my brother,
- 11:35my cousins, we all race. That's all we've really known
- 11:38what to do. I guess you could say.
- 11:42I also race direct with Drew Jack Series A little bit here
- 11:47and there when I'm not busy with my mini wedge kids.
- 11:50But my main priority is the Counselor Speedway Mini Wedges,
- 11:55Family Fun mini wedges, race directing and trying to help get
- 12:00that series going. Do you want to talk about how
- 12:05you fell into race directing? You know, is that something you
- 12:07always wanted to do? Is it something that you thought
- 12:10about doing? Like let's kind of go there
- 12:12because that's what you're doing now, right?
- 12:13And I know, I think it was it at Drew Jack's show the like 2
- 12:17years ago that I think you, that was like your first night, you
- 12:20know, because there's an enduro at the end.
- 12:21There's, I think we have modifieds or something like that
- 12:25going on. I mean, there's a lot if I
- 12:28remember that was your first night.
- 12:29I could be wrong, but but how do you, how do you racetrack?
- 12:33How do you find yourself doing that?
- 12:35Yeah, so all started with the mini wedges, uh, when Ryan
- 12:39Warning was, uh, here in Michigan still, he had asked me
- 12:43and my mom to come out and kind of help just because we had the
- 12:46background and the quarter Midget stuff a little bit.
- 12:49I know they're two separate completely different things, but
- 12:53it's mainly the kids and we kind of just had that background.
- 12:57And then I was just like his assistant.
- 13:00So I would listen to him talk to all the kids and this and that.
- 13:03And then one day he was like, Yep, you're doing it.
- 13:05So here you go. And that's how I basically got
- 13:08started. And then it was just mini
- 13:12wedges. And then one day Drew was like,
- 13:15hey, I need you to come help me. And I was like, OK.
- 13:17And then all the sudden I'm like, OK, what am I doing?
- 13:19And he goes, yeah, you're race directing.
- 13:21And I was out at Hartford and I was like, OK, here we go.
- 13:25So that's how I got into it. And then it just keeps going so.
- 13:32Because I mean, your family, there's a lot of legacy with the
- 13:35Sexton family and especially in Southwest Michigan.
- 13:39And so, you know, that's something, you know, when you
- 13:41grow up around it and you're surrounded by it, right?
- 13:45It probably feels maybe natural in a way.
- 13:47But you know, what is it that you want to do in racing
- 13:50ultimately? I mean, obviously you're a racer
- 13:52and I know you said female racer, but you should say badass
- 13:55racer because that's more what it's like right, in a late
- 13:57model. I mean one of few boojoo.
- 14:00That's the thing that always surprises me, right, is that,
- 14:02you know, we have a lot of female representation like
- 14:05Hornets and front wheel drives and and outlaws, whatever you
- 14:08want to call them. But then as you move up, it just
- 14:11it gets less and less and less. And so, you know, Taylor
- 14:13certainly been a trailblazer leading the way up at Kalamazoo
- 14:16is one of the V8 style, you know, female racers, but it
- 14:21should be badass racer. But you know, so other than
- 14:25that, I mean, what do you what do you want to do?
- 14:27Like what's an ultimate goal of yours or dreams that you have in
- 14:31racing? I would really love to make like
- 14:35a career out of it, maybe one day, I'm not sure like what
- 14:40avenue I want to go down or where I want to end up, but it's
- 14:45definitely a dream to make a career out of racing just
- 14:48because I've been around it my whole life and it's something
- 14:51that I enjoy. I was born in November and that
- 14:55April I was at the racetrack and I think we might have missed one
- 15:00year when there was a tradition transition from when my dad was
- 15:05done with the big cars and Alex getting into the quarter
- 15:08midgets. There was just like one year
- 15:11that we were not at a racetrack maybe.
- 15:13I mean, we were still there almost every single weekend, but
- 15:17there just wasn't a big card there at the racetrack.
- 15:22What was it like watching your dad?
- 15:23I asked him on Friday. I because Alex wasn't there yet,
- 15:27right? And I went, man, it kind of
- 15:29feels weird. There's only one car there
- 15:32sometimes and it's like, and there's always 2, right?
- 15:36So I, I asked your dad, I said, do you ever want to get back in
- 15:40the car? And obviously that answer was
- 15:43yes. And so, you know, and he would
- 15:45like to do outlaw super late models again, right?
- 15:47That's something he wants to do. And So what was it like watching
- 15:52not only your dad, but then being coached, you know, by your
- 15:56dad, because maybe that's two different versions of your dad,
- 15:59or maybe it's the same. But what's it, what's it like
- 16:01having someone who obviously was successful behind the wheel also
- 16:05now in your corner, you know, watching you and coaching you
- 16:08along the way as you go? Yeah.
- 16:11So like as a kid, like when my dad was starting a race, we
- 16:16always had the skybox and I would hide underneath the
- 16:20paneling there under the windows, and I would barely ever
- 16:24watch him restart a race. I don't know what it is, but
- 16:28that's just something I always remember and maybe that's why
- 16:31now I struggle so badly with my research because I never watched
- 16:35him. But it's definitely cool because
- 16:39my dad was one of the top guys, I guess you could say at the
- 16:43time at Kalamazoo. And just being able to carry the
- 16:48last name at the racetrack, that's pretty cool that people
- 16:52still remember. I think like when we have our
- 16:55autographs and stuff like that, people will come be like, Oh my
- 16:58gosh, I remember when you were two years old and this and that.
- 17:01So like it's cool that people are still there that were there
- 17:04when my dad was racing at first. My dad has always, you know,
- 17:10been in the late models and stuff like that.
- 17:12So my mom's rule was going from quarter midgets to the big
- 17:16track. We had to start in front of
- 17:18drives for a year and I learned absolutely nothing.
- 17:21I was walled my very first race ever and then I basically
- 17:27totaled that same car out. But the car still running cuz
- 17:31Scott Gates drives in now. So it's still out there.
- 17:35So that's awesome. But after that year, my dad was
- 17:38like, no more of this frontal Dr. stuff.
- 17:41We're going up to big cars. And that's when I started my
- 17:44street stocks and going into it, it was definitely a learning
- 17:48curve, you know, for my dad and myself.
- 17:50So like we kind of went as we were going and figuring it out
- 17:56and my last year in the street socks, we we really figured that
- 18:00one out. That was a car that we built
- 18:02with Tim Bullis and it's actually the car that Alex still
- 18:06drives and that was a really good piece.
- 18:10I think it's it's a pretty good car.
- 18:13And then they let Alex race or hot lap at M 41 day and then
- 18:19come to find out we're racing against each other and we were
- 18:22so close in times and this and that.
- 18:24And, you know, every single time we'd have Akash and he'd pull up
- 18:28right next to me like, yeah, good job, keep going.
- 18:30They were same thing. And now it's like, OK, I'm done.
- 18:33I don't want to race with Alex anymore just because, you know,
- 18:36it's like, I'm sure he could say the same thing.
- 18:39It's just the challenge between I have to be better than my
- 18:43brother and I'm sure he's like, well, I can't let my sister beat
- 18:46me either, you know. So then that's when I moved up
- 18:49to the Late models and it's pretty cool 'cause like, I guess
- 18:55you could say my attitude is more like my aunts, 'cause we're
- 18:58feisty and we're ready to go, whereas Alex and my dad are so
- 19:01laid back, they don't care what happens.
- 19:05So it's like I'm fired up when something happens and my dad's
- 19:09like, no, you did good like you, there's nothing that you did
- 19:14wrong and stuff like that. So I definitely need my dad
- 19:18there to keep me grounded because, you know, he's the one
- 19:21that will work with me. He did.
- 19:25He's taught me so much about the line and stuff like that.
- 19:29And there's still times today where I'm like, I need you to go
- 19:32in this corner because I feel like I'm not hitting my marks.
- 19:36So I need you to watch me. And then he'll be like, OK,
- 19:39well, I see you're doing this and you need to change it to
- 19:41this. So I'm just really thankful that
- 19:43I have his knowledge to back me up and stuff, but I'm also glad
- 19:49that I can learn how to do stuff myself and not have to rely on
- 19:53him if something is to happen. Now, Buju, I know I want, I want
- 19:59to make sure you get questions in too.
- 20:01So I will throw it to you. I know what my next question is
- 20:05based on what what Taylor was just talking about.
- 20:08But and there's already a question I had in my mind, so
- 20:10I'm glad that you went that way. I was going to ask about like
- 20:12Marks and all that, but. I'm I'm more curious about the
- 20:17race directing side and you see I'm now holding my microphone
- 20:19instead of it being on a stand. So that's where we're at over
- 20:22here. But I'm curious about the race
- 20:24directing side. So you race directed mini wedges
- 20:26and you race directed big cars, quote UN quote.
- 20:29So I'm on the mini wedge side. I feel like race director is as
- 20:32much of A coach as it is race directing, right?
- 20:36So what's that like stepping from that side where you're kind
- 20:39of sort of an extra parent to all these kids?
- 20:42It's where you get onto the side where now you're dealing with
- 20:44adults with their own personalities and all that
- 20:47stuff. What are those?
- 20:48What's the challenges there, stepping from one end to the
- 20:51other? Yeah.
- 20:52So like with the kids, obviously, you know, you're kind
- 20:54of mentoring them, teaching them, whereas the big cars, you
- 20:58can be a little bit more forceful, you know, like you got
- 21:01one lagging back, like not going up to their spot.
- 21:04And you can be like, hey, listen, if you don't watch your
- 21:06spot, I'm going to fill the gap with the car behind you.
- 21:08Like get up there, get in your spot, fill the gap.
- 21:12We're coming to the green flag. You know, it's a lot more
- 21:16watching the big cars just because you don't have you have
- 21:22a bigger track. So you're constantly watching.
- 21:24And I think what a lot of people think when you're race directing
- 21:28is that, oh, you're just watching the race happen, but I
- 21:31can't tell you half the time what lap we're on, who's my
- 21:34leader? Like who's getting lapped?
- 21:37You know, that stuff that you really have to pay attention to
- 21:40because, you know, I'm not really telling the kids like,
- 21:43hey, hold your line leaders are coming.
- 21:45Whereas in the big track that's that's crucial.
- 21:47You need to pay attention, you know, because hey, you want to
- 21:52make sure that your lap cars aren't going to take out your
- 21:54leaders. Unfortunately that happens
- 21:55sometimes. So that's your job is to make
- 21:58sure that you are watching for that so that you can prevent
- 22:01stuff. Now the bigger question which
- 22:05Which side acts like the bigger kids?
- 22:07Is it the kids or is it the adults?
- 22:10Definitely the kids, they, those kids, they, they test your, your
- 22:16buttons sometimes. But when they're ready to race,
- 22:19they put on one heck of a show. And then my last question before
- 22:23I throw it back to Lewis, what do you think prepared you more
- 22:25for being a race director? Was it being a racer or being in
- 22:27a racing family like you are? I think being a racer, because
- 22:31you can use your knowledge to help other people and you know
- 22:36what to look for. I guess like when you know
- 22:40someone's pretty loose and they're about to lose it, you
- 22:43kind of know to just keep your eyes there.
- 22:45They might, they might get it on their own, but you got
- 22:48definitely have to watch. Well, and that was those were
- 22:52perfect questions. Booed you in a way.
- 22:53The segue from where I was already thinking of.
- 22:56You know, my question I wanted to ask is because I've gotten a
- 22:59chance to see you work with the mini wedges and you've talked
- 23:02about obviously how your dad can mentor you, but you can also
- 23:05learn it on your own. But now you get to mentor those
- 23:09mini wedge kids, right? And you also a few weeks ago,
- 23:12the mini wedges went over to the quarter Midget track and got a
- 23:15chance to like team together in that sense and and do some
- 23:19things together. So when you're at, you know,
- 23:21when you're talking with the kids about their racing or you
- 23:24see that a kid is like beating them self up because you know
- 23:28what that's like you've beat yourself up, right?
- 23:30So, you know, how do you go in and talk with them and approach
- 23:33them? Or even I know sometimes you
- 23:36guys have walked the track together right where you know,
- 23:38you're talking about your marks. So how do you how do you see you
- 23:42making your mark on this youth generation right now that
- 23:47eventually will be racing right next to you and challenging you
- 23:50for a spot on the track? Yeah, so I guess my biggest
- 23:53thing that I try to teach the kids when I'm working with them
- 23:56is respect. Respect goes a long way on the
- 23:59racetrack. And if you're just out there to
- 24:01hit fenders with people, you're not going to make it very far.
- 24:05So that's the biggest thing that I look for is the respect.
- 24:11So like recently we've had issues with passing zones and if
- 24:16some of my kids are watching, they all got after me for
- 24:19passing zones the other day. So it goes both ways.
- 24:22But you also have to have, you know, that relationship with all
- 24:25the kids. Like, you don't want them to be
- 24:27afraid to come up and tell you something like, hey, I don't
- 24:29appreciate you doing this or hey, can you help me with this
- 24:33better than you did this time? You know, So the biggest thing
- 24:38is like, I like to create a relationship with the kids to
- 24:41make sure that they know that it's that they are more than
- 24:45welcome to come tell me if I'm doing something they don't
- 24:47appreciate. And I think that just goes a
- 24:50long way too. But the respect and passing
- 24:54cleanly is the biggest thing. And you've been a part of the
- 25:00main wedges now for a couple years, especially at Kalamazoo
- 25:02under the leadership of Kenny Head.
- 25:04And so you've gotten a chance to, you know, be with someone
- 25:08who you watch race and got a chance to race against, got a
- 25:10chance to start next to at times to, you know, on the front row
- 25:14and everything. So what is the growth that
- 25:17you've seen in the many wedges and maybe even some drivers that
- 25:20come to your mind from the first time you stepped into that role
- 25:24with Kenny had to now like you know, what stands out to you in
- 25:30terms of the growth of the program, growth of some drivers,
- 25:33even growth from rookie drivers this year where you're like a
- 25:36few years ago we wouldn't be in this spot and now we are, you
- 25:39know what, what do you see? It changed.
- 25:42Yeah, so a lot of the kids that I started off with when I first
- 25:47started, you know, they were five or six years old at the
- 25:49time and they are now in the cage park champ part, whatever
- 25:55it is. So they're to the point where
- 25:58they're progressing. And I think that's my favorite
- 26:00thing is like, forgive me if I make like forget some of the
- 26:06kids, but like Elena Rutherford, Hunter Pyramid, there's just so
- 26:13many of them that, you know, they're also being coached by
- 26:17their parents that are also racing with me on Friday nights
- 26:21that I've raced door to door with.
- 26:23And just seeing where they've come from when they started to
- 26:27where they're at now. It's awesome.
- 26:29Just like another one. I've had a few kids that I've
- 26:34personally told Kenny like, hey, they're they need to be moved up
- 26:39because they're not at their full potential in this class.
- 26:42So they need to go to this class.
- 26:44Because to me, if you're just sitting in a class to win and
- 26:49you know, because, you know, you can go, go, go, go, go all the
- 26:52time. Like I don't necessarily see the
- 26:55good in that. Like, do you want to progress in
- 26:58your racing career? You know, like I've had so many
- 27:01people come up to me this year. They're like you've you've
- 27:05you've went really far this year, like from where you were
- 27:08at a few years ago to now like you've made a lot of progress
- 27:12and I really like to see that now with the program.
- 27:16When I first started, we were maybe averaging 10 to 15 cars
- 27:21for the juniors and the seniors. Kenny has put so much hard work
- 27:25into this program and we are now averaging 30 to 35 between
- 27:30Kalamazoo and Berlin every single time we're at the
- 27:33racetrack. And now that he doesn't have a
- 27:37race car in his shop to, you know, tinker with this, this
- 27:41program has become his thing. And he's really, he's really
- 27:46made this thing work. And it's really cool to see like
- 27:50all the kids like you with him too.
- 27:54Like he has his golf cart. And more than half the time
- 27:58you're going to see his golf cart filled with all the kids
- 28:01when we're not racing or they're always coming up and joking with
- 28:05Kenny and this and that. And it's just like being able as
- 28:10a club to like transition from, OK, we're ready to work to then
- 28:16in our breaks, we're all going along with the kids.
- 28:20And like, we have a few of our little boys from Indiana, they
- 28:27race at Plymouth and then they're coming up to Kalamazoo.
- 28:31And like our Kalamazoo guys, little boys and little girls are
- 28:35going down to Plymouth. And I'm so thankful because
- 28:39Plymouth decided to kind of work around with us too.
- 28:42Like if we're racing this weekend, well they're racing the
- 28:45next weekend so that everyone can like come together and we're
- 28:49not just stuck to one track, you know, like then on our
- 28:53Saturdays, all, all the kids, even Indiana kids are coming up
- 28:56to Berlin and that's like a 2-3 hour drive for them.
- 28:59And that's definitely saying something when they're coming
- 29:02all the way to Berlin to race with us from Indiana.
- 29:05Even Kalamazoo, it's still a drive and it's just amazing to
- 29:09see everybody come together for the kids.
- 29:12What I know they made, you know, the Kalamazoo Wedge program made
- 29:15quite the splash at the Rumble in Fort Wayne.
- 29:17That was one of the things that even hearing from staff that
- 29:21this group knows what they're doing.
- 29:23And so I think that's, you know, huge kudos not only to Kenny,
- 29:26but then to people like you who are part of that and get to be a
- 29:31part of steering, you know, a program into the future and, and
- 29:34making it a program, not just, hey, we kind of show up and we
- 29:37do stuff and then we leave, right?
- 29:39Like there's a lot of work behind the scenes that goes into
- 29:42it. So why don't we do?
- 29:44It's like I always call this the Mick Foley Mankind cheap plug
- 29:47time. So before I let you do a cheap
- 29:51plug, I do want to remind everyone that we are talk
- 29:54talking with Taylor Sexton. It's almost 7:30.
- 29:56So I'm like, oh, this is the time.
- 29:58It's you know. So we are talk talk with Taylor
- 30:00Sexton and she's about to do cheap plug time for Fast way
- 30:03Creations. But coming up at about 7:45,
- 30:08we're going to I see Chris was in the chat area talking
- 30:11Survivor 181 and Survivor 180 and Duro.
- 30:15But Taylor, you know, race tracking, late model racing, you
- 30:19know, work on the side, all these other things.
- 30:21And then you also have your fast way creations.
- 30:24And so why don't you talk a little bit about that?
- 30:27And then I do want to remind everyone watching, you're
- 30:29welcome to add in, you know, questions in the chat area that
- 30:32we can pull up on the screen and ask Taylor, you know, something
- 30:35you might be wondering, especially when it comes to late
- 30:38model racing and you know, template late model racing,
- 30:41which isn't not a lot of tracks are doing that anymore, right.
- 30:44So Kalamazoo is one of the last holdouts of template late model
- 30:48racing. But but why don't you talk a
- 30:50little bit about your fast way creations and and the one more
- 30:53thing that you fit onto your plate, you know, with everything
- 30:56that you do. Yeah, so I got a bright idea one
- 31:00day to buy an embroidery machine because why not add more to my
- 31:06plate? And not a lot of people were
- 31:08doing that around the area. I was going to get into the
- 31:12whole vinyl stuff, but there's just too many people in the area
- 31:16that were doing it. That's a good thing, you know,
- 31:19to have competition, just like racing.
- 31:21And so I got into embroidery, didn't do my research very well.
- 31:25So then I ended up buying another machine just because,
- 31:29you know, we have to do that. But that's definitely like at
- 31:34first I was just, you know, messing around with it, not
- 31:36promoting it. And then I got a really good
- 31:40offer with M40. So I started making all their
- 31:44hats over there and then I ventured out a little bit,
- 31:48started doing all the a lot of the drivers hats around here.
- 31:53I was thankful for Jen Rohrig to message me to do some hats for
- 31:58them. I've had some people from way
- 32:01out of town reach out to me to do racing hats for them.
- 32:05I think that's really cool. And I think the coolest thing
- 32:07for me being such a a small business type thing is when
- 32:11people are walking around the racetrack and you're like, Oh my
- 32:13gosh, that's my hat that I made. Like people are actually wearing
- 32:16my stuff. So my main focus is like
- 32:20embroidery, mainly hats. I do a lot of other things like
- 32:24shirts, jackets. I've been lucky enough to do the
- 32:29Kalamazoo Speedway Championship jackets.
- 32:32I've done Spring Ports championship jackets, sort of
- 32:36stuff like that. It's a lot of racing stuff and
- 32:40then I just decided recently to get into the DTF printing, like
- 32:45type screen printing stuff too, so I'm starting to get my feet
- 32:49wet with that and it's been pretty fun.
- 32:52Laser engraving, I'm doing that too.
- 32:55When I have time. A lot of this is like we'll work
- 33:00on the race car for a few hours, come back in, do that for a few
- 33:03hours. Some days it's like, OK, my race
- 33:06car is decently good. We're going to go work on this
- 33:08stuff for now. And then, you know, Wednesdays
- 33:10we're up at Berlin with the mini wedges.
- 33:13So it's just finding the time to, you know, fit all the
- 33:17embroidery in on top of the racing.
- 33:19And it's something I enjoy, something that I can, you know,
- 33:23a lot of us racers know when you get in your car, it's just a way
- 33:26to kind of shut your mind off and have some fun.
- 33:28And it's like that for embroidery too.
- 33:30You can get so lost in your projects and you're creating
- 33:33something really cool. Well, and that's why I wanted
- 33:37you to to, you know, while we're on here, right to, you know, say
- 33:41what you do, what you're doing, because I know I will be getting
- 33:43some stuff from you too, to support you because, you know,
- 33:46like I said, I'm a big fan of you and what you do.
- 33:48And that's where it's like, OK, what's one more way that we can
- 33:52showcase your talents and, and what you're able to do?
- 33:55So I know I have some things coming my way.
- 33:58I should get Buju to get some Buju Bullring stuff coming.
- 34:01The hats. The hats part has me interested.
- 34:03I am looking for some hats so I might be in touch.
- 34:07Embroidery, right? Not a lot of people in the area.
- 34:09Yeah, exactly. It's like the embroidery like
- 34:12that. And so, and my mom used to do
- 34:14embroidery for a long time and, but you know, she doesn't do
- 34:17that anymore. But when I was looking to get my
- 34:21stuff like done and I'm like, OK, where do I, where do I go?
- 34:25Because I was using Vistaprint at the start.
- 34:27It was what I could do and afford afford at the time.
- 34:30And I'm like, that wasn't like amazing.
- 34:33So, you know, but although I am wearing one of those that I
- 34:37decided, no, no, there's not a thing.
- 34:39But it is a throwback for the old logo.
- 34:41But, but, but yeah, so that's why I wanted you to also do
- 34:45that. Cheap plug time.
- 34:46That's what I call it. Usually on Monday at some point,
- 34:48we do a Mankind, Mick Foley cheap plug time.
- 34:50But Buju, what other questions do you have too, 'cause I know
- 34:54like I asked a couple, but I want to make sure that I'm
- 34:56getting you in here too. Well, First off, everything you
- 34:58mentioned that you do, and I want to know when you sleep,
- 35:00when you squeeze that part of your life in there.
- 35:04But yeah, I guess you mentioned that your main priority I guess
- 35:09is the the racetrack and the mini wedge stuff and deal and
- 35:15mentoring the kids and all that. So you mentioned that you would
- 35:19like a career in Motorsports. So if you had to choose and you,
- 35:23I mean you will have to choose a lane if you want to do that,
- 35:26what and which side would it be? Would it be on the driving side?
- 35:28Would it be on the race directing side or would it be
- 35:30maybe something else that you're looking at?
- 35:33That's why I'm torn right now because I'm not I'm not ready to
- 35:37give up my seat yet because that's obviously we all know
- 35:41being racers, the templates, they're they are dwindling down
- 35:48at a lot of places. I'm not sure what I'll end up
- 35:51doing with Springport, you know, coming back.
- 35:57We might look into that if they decide to raise templates, you
- 36:01know, and their schedules not exactly full time every single
- 36:05weekend type deal. I really do enjoy race
- 36:10directing. So if I, if I had the
- 36:14opportunity presented to me like, you know, hey, you can go
- 36:18race this track if I need you at this track, I'd probably jump on
- 36:22it pretty fast. Interesting.
- 36:27So you're obviously still very much interested in the driving
- 36:29side and I know you've you've been able to travel around a
- 36:31little bit racing tracks, but what are some on that are still
- 36:34on your bucket list that you get to get to before before you are,
- 36:37If you do decide to give up the driving side at some point, what
- 36:39are some tracks you want to do before you're done?
- 36:42I would definitely like to take the trip to Owosso with the
- 36:45template because I know that I could probably race up there.
- 36:49Berlin, even if I don't race Evelyn, just practicing would be
- 36:54amazing and awesome opportunity. And then Angola, my dad did
- 37:00pretty well down there and so it'd be fun.
- 37:04I've been able to go to New Paris a few times, M40 a few
- 37:08times. So just I guess the tracks that
- 37:13aren't super, super far away, Freedom Factory would probably
- 37:17be like at the very top of the list after being there.
- 37:20And now that they have, you know, late models there every so
- 37:23often. But yeah, definitely Owosso and
- 37:28Berlin is at the top of my list, just so you know, make a few
- 37:31laps around there someday. And then my last question with
- 37:35you being from such a racing family and you growing up at
- 37:38Kalamazoo and then moving on to race at Kalamazoo, who's
- 37:41somebody that you lined up next to for the first time and you're
- 37:43looking over at them and like, man, I can't believe I'm about
- 37:46to race blank. Kenny, Ed.
- 37:51Fair enough, it's a good answer. Well, and and I mean, there's
- 37:56you had a really good battle going with him there for a while
- 37:59and one of the races I know. And then, yeah, you know, that's
- 38:03something that this year watching even more, you've just
- 38:06been, I know a few weeks ago when I put a camera in her car,
- 38:09then it didn't go that way. I took full blame for that when
- 38:12I said this was my fault, but because she did well before that
- 38:16and did well after that. So I'm definitely taking the
- 38:18fault for it. But but I mean, there are nights
- 38:21where Mike Dang, look at I, you know, the caution or whatever.
- 38:24I look over at Raymond, Dang, look at Taylor going out there
- 38:26and and you know, because you've been on such a good run.
- 38:30And, and that's where I, I won't say all the details, but I know
- 38:33a few years ago I had many different conversations with
- 38:36you. And I don't know, you know, if
- 38:38they ever win anywhere with that.
- 38:39But it's like, man, like I just don't.
- 38:42I didn't like how it was going, right.
- 38:44You know, it's like, man, you're good.
- 38:46You just got to remember that, you know, crap happens
- 38:49sometimes, Yeah. You know, I definitely have to
- 38:51remind myself of that. I don't know.
- 38:53I guess, you know, being a female in the top sport, you're
- 38:58going to get pushed around a lot.
- 39:00And that's my issue is like, there's been a few times where
- 39:04maybe I haven't raced people with respect, but that's my
- 39:07biggest saying because Alex and I were taught literally in our
- 39:11street stocks when we were racing together, we were told
- 39:14the second we touch each other on the racetrack with our race
- 39:17cars, we were both parked and we were done racing.
- 39:20So that's how I treat racing, you know, like you have to give
- 39:24respect to earn respect. But the past few years, it's
- 39:29definitely changed. And even if you have respect,
- 39:34they're still just going to push you around the track.
- 39:36Like you're in the way all the time.
- 39:37And you just have to like, get that out of your head that
- 39:39you're not in the way. Just go, like, keep going, don't
- 39:45you know? You're in the race, too.
- 39:48Yeah, so. You're like, your template is
- 39:52just like any other template out there, right?
- 39:55It has four wheels and it can go fast.
- 39:58Before I asked Tina's question, that's going to lead me to my
- 40:01next part about just go. And you've brought up Alex a
- 40:03couple times. Obviously huge congratulations
- 40:05to him winning down at Plymouth this past Saturday and Abuja and
- 40:09I were down the road from that race.
- 40:11And but when I saw that, I thought that was pretty exciting
- 40:14because I know. Like he too, right?
- 40:17He had a bumpy Friday. You had the bumpy Friday a few
- 40:20weeks ago. He had a little bit of a bumpy
- 40:21Friday this past Friday at Kalamazoo.
- 40:23And so they kind of turn around and do that.
- 40:25I thought that was pretty cool. But before I ask Tina's.
- 40:29So let's go St. stock and then let's go template because I
- 40:32don't think Alex has raised a template yet, but let's pretend
- 40:35like he has because you both have done St. stocks.
- 40:38So 5 laps, one-on-one. Who wins the Street stock?
- 40:45Hi, Alex. He can, he can wheel a street
- 40:48stock pretty Dang good if like he can go out there and just lay
- 40:52a lap down and it's like what the heck.
- 40:55So. Template pretend Same scale,
- 40:59same car, same everything. You know what he can do in the
- 41:02street stock. He knows what you can do in the
- 41:03street Stock. Now let's go to template. 5
- 41:05laps. Who's winning?
- 41:09It would definitely be close. I think it'd come down to the
- 41:11line, but we'd be coming out of four and it's game on and I
- 41:15think I'd get him at the line. Now throw your dad in that
- 41:19equation. St. stock and template St. stock
- 41:233 of you 3 tailors or three sections going at it.
- 41:26Who's winning that one? I'd still have to put my money
- 41:32on Alex. We, I don't know, I, I
- 41:36definitely have to put my money on it.
- 41:37Alex still in the street stock. Now template.
- 41:45I don't know, I think. I did outlaw racing, right for
- 41:49the most part, right? Like he mostly was an Outlaw
- 41:51Supers. But since you're in a template,
- 41:54you haven't raced an Outlaw Super yet.
- 41:55So that's where I thought, let's kind of keep it where you are.
- 41:58Before I ask Tina's question, I'm kind of edging Tina a little
- 42:00bit. I don't know, I think it'd be
- 42:03pretty close between me and my dad, but my dad might still get
- 42:06it because he's got lots and lots and lots of laps.
- 42:09So, so, yeah, we've asked that question a couple times each,
- 42:13you know, each week to some different drivers, like who's
- 42:16winning, who's the, you know, in the Drag Race, just because it's
- 42:18kind of fun to kind of imagine, right?
- 42:20Like who might win, like to kind of really think about that.
- 42:23But let's try to get you some sales too at the same time.
- 42:26So there's a question. So she wants to know, does
- 42:30Taylor have a Facebook page for her business for those
- 42:33interested in buying her products?
- 42:35Yeah, so it's under fast way creations 3 words.
- 42:40My profile picture is like black, blue and white kind of
- 42:45matches my race car. So I just mainly do Facebook at
- 42:51the moment. I just, I'd like to push that
- 42:54more. So I need to do better on my
- 42:56social media side of it, but I just right now I'm at the point
- 43:01where like I have enough to keep me busy, but I would definitely
- 43:04love to expand. Right.
- 43:07So again, what I'll do is I'll tag your page once we're off the
- 43:11live, I'll tag it that way people can see it there or if
- 43:15someone in the comments wants to help out and already follows it,
- 43:18you can tag to it won't let me on the on the platform we're on
- 43:22right now. It won't let me tag it, but so
- 43:24sometimes wait till after because my phone's over that
- 43:27way. So get that tagged because I
- 43:30know I'm excited to. I have a jacket coming from you
- 43:32and then we just talked about a polo on Friday.
- 43:37So definitely will be wearing that around and supporting you
- 43:41because I like I said, you just do so much for a lot of people.
- 43:43And so it's like how, you know, I always ask, you know, how can
- 43:47I continue to help others? So, so Tina just put it on there
- 43:52and then booze, you got it to do.
- 43:53There we go. So that's the creation.
- 43:55So click that and then Tina has it.
- 43:59There we go. Now they're flooding in heck.
- 44:02Yeah, drop. The options to Click to go
- 44:05there. So definitely check out because
- 44:07I know you do. You've done tumblers if I
- 44:09remember right. I've seen tumblers.
- 44:10I've seen people post wet bags too, like handbags or pursers or
- 44:15things like that. So I think I saw stuff
- 44:18glittered. Yeah, I just did some rhinestone
- 44:21hats. They're pretty fancy.
- 44:24Yeah, yeah, 'cause I saw them shiny.
- 44:28Yes, you. Can't lose that person,
- 44:30whoever's wearing it right? You won't be able to lose them
- 44:31in a crowd, so. Right.
- 44:33Yeah, they're pretty sparkly. So so again, you know,
- 44:37definitely go check out Fast way creations.
- 44:39That way you can support Taylor because again, I'm a big
- 44:43believer in supporting those who support short track racing.
- 44:46And you know, that's why like I have Matt, you know, do my
- 44:49graphics on the car and everything because he's on the
- 44:52track he's racing, right. So I definitely want to continue
- 44:55to support those who are who are especially who are racers and
- 45:00oh, and then from Hartford, we have Taylor does an amazing job
- 45:03on NCTS, Midwest and M40 stuff. Oh, it's Drew on Hartford's OK,
- 45:10threw me out there from Drew's on the Hartford page.
- 45:14But and then Bill Russell, see more shout outs are coming your
- 45:17way. She has done Russell's and 40
- 45:19hats and jackets quality work. So so again, you're just super
- 45:23talented in all the different ways.
- 45:25And so as a rate, you know, from the race track to type before I
- 45:28let you go, you may or may not get a phone call for this or for
- 45:33this Sunday at Slinger. So just warning you, Drew, I'm
- 45:35giving a oh, don't ask anyways. So who knows, you might be in
- 45:43Wisconsin if you want to be. I drew may or may not be calling
- 45:47you on that. But but I'm wondering, you know,
- 45:50as a race tractor on that side, what's a track that you know,
- 45:54you did it on a late model side. You talked about, you know,
- 45:56where you might race by this race director, like what's a
- 45:59what's your track that you just kind of think about?
- 46:01Man, it would be really fun to call a race there, wherever
- 46:03NASCAR, little Kalamazoo, wherever it might be.
- 46:11That's a good question. I really don't have an answer
- 46:13for that because I've had so many amazing opportunities
- 46:17already this year. I've been able to race direct
- 46:20out at Berlin. I was able to race direct out at
- 46:23Plymouth, Kalamazoo. I've race directed there a few
- 46:28times. Hartford.
- 46:32I never thought that, you know, I would ever be doing anything
- 46:36like that at a dirt track. And I was able to do that.
- 46:40And they run their format a little bit different, you know,
- 46:44than we do. And it's like, all right, here
- 46:46we go. And that's how I learned how to
- 46:48do it. So, you know, I definitely don't
- 46:53have like a track just because there's so many opportunities
- 46:57that I've already been able to do this year and it's it's quite
- 47:00awesome. Well, again, just keep doing you
- 47:03because you're doing, you're doing amazing with each stop in
- 47:06each way and it's fun to watch you grow into all these
- 47:08opportunities. So again, like I said three
- 47:11Times Now, big fan of yours and, and what you do.
- 47:13So just keep going because you're definitely trailblazing.
- 47:17You know, I think of down at South Bend, they had Lisa Harts
- 47:20who did a race director and she's one of the few female
- 47:25directors at the time. In fact, at South Bend, they had
- 47:27a full female tower like everyone in the tower, but we're
- 47:31all females running the running the race program at night other
- 47:34than Tony Eldridge was the promoter at the time.
- 47:36But but pretty much the tower was in their control other than
- 47:40the announcer, Chris Highball. But his wife was in there.
- 47:42So she had to be happy for him to be happy.
- 47:44But but and he does he does an awesome job too, but you know,
- 47:49just kind of think there's not. I mean, Sarah, you know, is
- 47:52doing it over at M40, but you know, there's there's not a lot
- 47:56of female race tractors out there.
- 47:57So you get a trail blazing where you never know what kid might be
- 48:02looking at you going. I want to be just like her,
- 48:04right? And you might not even be in
- 48:06your car at that moment in time. You might just be race tracting
- 48:09So and you're just never know who's watching.
- 48:11So just keep doing you because you're definitely a leader and
- 48:13mentor for a lot of people. Thank you.
- 48:16Oh, no. You're welcome, buddy.
- 48:18I appreciate you joining us tonight to remind everybody
- 48:21again, we have been talking with Taylor Sexton.
- 48:24You can see her on Friday nights in the template late model
- 48:29racing at Kalamazoo. But then you never know where
- 48:31you might see her after that again.
- 48:33At Berlin on Wednesdays with the family fun mini wedges when they
- 48:36go up there and then obviously at Kalamazoo Speedway on Sundays
- 48:40when they have their Sunday programs.
- 48:42But you might also see her with you Jack, wearing a national
- 48:44compact shirt or possibly Midwest or Midwest dirt compact
- 48:48shirt as she's race directing for Drew at their various
- 48:52events. So again, Taylor's doing tons
- 48:55going all over the place. So definitely thank you for all
- 48:59that you do. Thank you.
- 49:01Oh, no, you're welcome. All right.
- 49:03And we'll see you on. Well, no, you don't race Friday.
- 49:05Do. You actually, I do believe I am
- 49:08on the schedule this Friday, but don't quote me 'cause I never
- 49:11know when I'm on the schedule. When I'm not, I just look at the
- 49:14flyer and we're on the schedule. So I.
- 49:16Probably should actually know that since it's Monday but I'm
- 49:19still getting over this weekend so I'm like I have not even
- 49:24thought about this coming Friday, Saturday or Sunday yet
- 49:27but I'm like I'm still living on last Fridays.
- 49:30Right. So again, I mean, we'll
- 49:35definitely see you at the track, I'm sure.
- 49:36No, no matter what. But again, have a great rest of
- 49:39your night, Taylor. And thank you again so much for
- 49:41joining us. Yeah.
- 49:42Thank you. Yeah.
- 49:43Thank you. Yeah, thank you.
- 49:45All right. So again we've been talking
- 49:47about if you like Enduro's or you have a gut and go car or
- 49:52interest in building a gut and go car, you have a couple days
- 49:55because now we're going to talk new Paris Speedway Survivor 180
- 49:58Enduro if there if I remember correctly it's 19 or 20s, the
- 50:01number plus teams will be 2000 to win.
- 50:04Anything less than that will be 1000 to win.
- 50:06And so we're going to be bring Chris on now so that we can talk
- 50:10about that. So I gotta bring Chris on that
- 50:14would ask if I click the right button, usually this transition,
- 50:17there's no transition every night that I missed the wrong
- 50:19button there right button press. But again, Chris, thank you so
- 50:22much for joining us tonight. I know I kind of asked you last
- 50:25minute on Saturday, like when we're in the office, like, hey,
- 50:28you know, how are we? How are we feeling about it?
- 50:30Why don't we talk a little bit about it on Monday?
- 50:32So again, thank you for joining us.
- 50:34Well, once again, thanks for thanks for having us on.
- 50:38Tracy will probably pop in and out here, but for now you got
- 50:42you got me the the lesser good looking one, I suppose.
- 50:46But the first thing that I want to say is I think we need to
- 50:50spice up this whole backstage thing.
- 50:52Oh yeah. So I think we either rename it
- 50:56Lewis's Lounge, or we could call it Boojoo's Bunker.
- 51:01Oh. Maybe blue juice bunker that
- 51:03makes that's a little bit more clever, a little.
- 51:05Bit more. But.
- 51:06I do like Luis's Lounge, Yeah, I I mean both because it's a play
- 51:10on words. You get the BB or the LLLLBBI,
- 51:15don't know but. Anyways, I'll try to keep my
- 51:17laptop still. I know it's bouncing around a
- 51:19little bit, but anyways, once again, thanks for having me on.
- 51:23And yeah, we've got Saturday. Coming up will be our second
- 51:27annual Survivor 180. Yeah.
- 51:31Three hour enduro. It's something we've been
- 51:34talking about for years and we thought we'd give it a shot last
- 51:36year. And surprisingly enough, and
- 51:39this is kind of regurgitated from the last episode when we
- 51:42talked, you know, it turned out out to be way more entertaining
- 51:46than you know, what we what we anticipated.
- 51:50So for this year's second annual Survivor 180, we're going with a
- 51:55little different track configuration.
- 51:57Last year we ran what we call our wrench it up, which is a
- 52:00modified Figure 8. And if you looked at it from an
- 52:04aerial view, it kind of looks like a a double box end wrench.
- 52:09So this year, we're going to go with, I believe this, the term
- 52:13coined by NASCAR, the ROVL. Oh I messed it up and I kept
- 52:17thinking kidney bean in my head but but.
- 52:21Well, kidney bean, kidney bean could be could have been the
- 52:24wrench it up style. But so with the ROVL, what we're
- 52:28going to do is drivers will enter at turn 4 into the X or
- 52:38the infield part of the the Figure 8 track.
- 52:42They will exit that at turn 1 and then go through turn 2, the
- 52:48back stretch and turn 3 and then re enter the infield or the X in
- 52:56turn 4 again. So it's kind of a it's kind of a
- 52:59modified Oval that we're setting up for this and we're going to
- 53:04we're going to see how that goes.
- 53:06You know, someday I think we're going to run on the
- 53:08configuration. So try but you know, just
- 53:11something a little different than your traditional Oval
- 53:13enduro. Plus this will be easier on the
- 53:17drivers. Yeah, well, and that's where,
- 53:20you know, a lot of enduros are circle track, right?
- 53:23And Jujak has a lot of those enduros to do that.
- 53:25So in this case, you're offering a different style enduro and
- 53:28you're doing a team thing. And that's why, as you were
- 53:31talking about that, I put the graphic up and I'll do it again.
- 53:33As we're going through that is, you know, not only, you know, is
- 53:38it not just a circle track, but you know, this is a team aspect.
- 53:41So there's going to be a pit area where they're going to have
- 53:43to possibly change tires or they're possibly going to have
- 53:46to put fuel in the car. They're, you know, they're
- 53:48possibly going to have to do work on these cars and they also
- 53:52have to swap out drivers too. So, so if you want to talk a
- 53:56little bit about, you know, not only from the core standpoint,
- 53:59but where that pit area will be located, how that will how the
- 54:03exchange of drivers will take place, especially since each
- 54:06driver has to log at least minimal 30 minutes within this
- 54:11three hour enduro giving, you know, 90 minutes everybody races
- 54:15where maybe the last 90 minutes, it could look a little
- 54:18different. So if you want to kind of go
- 54:19through that aspect of things, especially because this, as
- 54:22Tracy likes to explain it, you know, it's technical, there's
- 54:24skills, there's like pit stop. So you get a little bit of
- 54:27NASCAR in there, you get a little, you know, different
- 54:29things that you have to do. OK, so given the track layout
- 54:35that I explained and just like last year with the wrench it up
- 54:38style track layout, when they go into the pits, the pits will be
- 54:42located in the northern half of our current pit area, which will
- 54:47be behind the turn 3, turn 4 grandstands.
- 54:50So they will exit the track and the traditional track exit and
- 54:53they will re enter on a traditional track entrance.
- 54:58But that entire area back there, we asked them to park their
- 55:01trucks and their trailers more towards the South there we'll
- 55:05have cones or some barriers or whatever put up right there.
- 55:10That way, depending on the number of teams, make sure it
- 55:14doesn't get too crowded nor anyone team is located too much
- 55:19farther away from the track entrance than any other team.
- 55:24So for instance, if someone's, if someone's going to choose
- 55:28their pit area, you know, midway between the north fence and the
- 55:34halfway point, which would be the ramp where you walk from the
- 55:37pits up to the grandstands. We don't want any teams having
- 55:43to pit any further South than that, which would give them a
- 55:47disadvantage. But you know, like, like Tracy
- 55:49explained, there you go. Like Tracy explained, you know
- 55:55so much strategies involved and it's it's just, it's almost as
- 55:59fun to go watch them in the pits as it is watch them on the track
- 56:03because you've got drivers crawling out, new driver
- 56:06crawling in, strapping in, buckling in tire changes going
- 56:13on fuel definitely during three hours being gut and go or NOD
- 56:20style cars. You know, there's there's no way
- 56:22even with a full tank of gas, you're going to make it so you
- 56:24are going to need fuel at sometime.
- 56:26We've seen some repairs go on, but it is a three hour time
- 56:30limit. Last year I think 300 and 365
- 56:36laps was the winning team. So three person teams, each
- 56:43team, each driver in the team must log at least 30 minutes.
- 56:47We'll have staff down there logging driver changes and times
- 56:50they got in, times they got out of the car.
- 56:53You know, some teams, they were confident enough in all three
- 56:57members where it was one hour, 1 hour, one hour.
- 57:00You know, some teams, I believe there was one team, if I'm not
- 57:04mistaken, went 30 minutes, thirty minutes and then one
- 57:07driver finished up two hours. But you know, I don't think any
- 57:11of them could feel their arms at the end of the at the, at the
- 57:14end of the deal last year. They're all like, Oh my gosh, I
- 57:17can't feel my arms. So but that was wrenched up
- 57:20style. So there was, there was more
- 57:21turns involved there. But yeah, it's just it's, it's
- 57:25one of those fun events. It's it's different than regular
- 57:30racing. It's different than Night of
- 57:31Destruction. You know, it's something, it's
- 57:36not you're running four points or anything like that.
- 57:39You know, we've got we've got a nice payout set up.
- 57:41We've got nice survivor trophies and that'll be first, second and
- 57:47third place will get trophies and they all will get their an
- 57:51identical trophy as a team. So yeah, it's just kind of a fun
- 57:56thing. And you know, as long as, as
- 58:00long as it's enjoyable for the drivers and the fans, you know,
- 58:02we'll, we'll keep maybe trying to throw in some different ideas
- 58:05or you know, who knows, You know, when you've got, when
- 58:09you've got a track where you do have a full Figure 8 that's been
- 58:12paved, you know, it gives you some options.
- 58:15Oh yeah. And that's something that again,
- 58:18I know obviously a lot of your nod competitors are looking
- 58:22forward to something like this. You know, the ladies, you
- 58:24there's quite a few of them. I think Coneheads was planning
- 58:27to have a car out there, might have a car out there.
- 58:30But then this can be for weekly racers too, you know, go get a
- 58:33gut and go car, you know, strip it, do all the things like you
- 58:37would for night destruction and go race.
- 58:40So or you can bring or a Hornet car.
- 58:42Oh yeah. Oh, so you will allow like
- 58:44Hornet cars with cages and all that too?
- 58:47Absolutely, Yep. So yeah, bring out your because
- 58:50I mean you're not going to hit in the Figure 8 like you're not
- 58:53going to hit in that X spot so that you know there's no driver
- 58:55door impact possibility. I mean, shouldn't say that
- 58:59anything could always happen, right?
- 59:01But more likely than not, there's not going to be like a
- 59:04true Figure 8 where like you're looking at a bone hit like I
- 59:09mean. Crap hit.
- 59:10Not a true, not a true Figure 8 Yeah.
- 59:12Not a true Figure 8. Yeah.
- 59:15So, I mean, even a Hornet car probably could survive something
- 59:18like this, you know. So if you want to bring a Hornet
- 59:20car, you know, out, you know, on Saturday too, to do this, it is.
- 59:24I'll put up the graphic again. It's $100 registration, which
- 59:28does not include the pit pass, but you can go on pit pay.
- 59:31And on pit pay it's $30.00 at the gate.
- 59:34It's what, $35? Correct, Correct.
- 59:36Just like all of our standard events.
- 59:39So definitely, you know, take advantage because you can sign
- 59:41all your waivers and everything on pit pay.
- 59:43So that's already done. When you get to the track, you
- 59:45scan the little QR code and you get to get in after you go
- 59:49through that process. But it you know, it's a gut and
- 59:52go sell not a car, but you know, Hornets would qualify for this
- 59:56too. Three team members.
- 59:57So again, that's important part to know.
- 59:59You need three team members and each one must log at least 30
- 1:00:03minutes. Chris already said that someone
- 1:00:04will be sitting there timing that.
- 1:00:06But after everyone has reached their minimal, then obviously as
- 1:00:09a team you can strategize. And if I remember Chris, it
- 1:00:13wasn't 19 or 20 plus teams, it was 2000 to win.
- 1:00:16And obviously whatever that number is, less than that would
- 1:00:18be like 1000 to win and I start money.
- 1:00:21So do you want to go, do you have the payout with you by
- 1:00:24chance? If not, I think I might be able
- 1:00:25to pull it up really quick. I would have to get off of my
- 1:00:28screen to do that. We would so let me let me go
- 1:00:33here really quick because I would I just pulled it up for
- 1:00:36somebody the other day. So it was it was already in your
- 1:00:41photos area. So it's easy to find.
- 1:00:44So survivor Enduro, so it's 20 plus teams is 2000 to win,
- 1:00:50second place is 1000 to win. Third place is 500, fourth place
- 1:00:54is 255th, place is 125. Sixth through 7th place would be
- 1:00:58$100, eighth through 10th is $75, and 11th on out is $50.
- 1:01:05If there's less than 20 teams, so 19 or less, that would be
- 1:01:091000 First place, 2nd 503rd, 254th, 125 fifth, 100, 6th
- 1:01:17through 10th, 75 and 11th out 40 bucks.
- 1:01:20So just trimmed off a little bit from there.
- 1:01:23So but again, you know, that's a really good payout, especially
- 1:01:28if you get like a gut and go car that you'd go to a junkyard and
- 1:01:32you know, get it for 2-3 hundred 400 bucks, maybe maybe less than
- 1:01:36that and do what you need to do to get it ready and go race you.
- 1:01:40You might leave their $2000 or 1000 right?
- 1:01:43You might double your money like going to a casino.
- 1:01:47Who knows, we're we're pretty confident that that possibly you
- 1:01:53know that we will get that the 20 cars that's or more that
- 1:01:56would that would definitely be make for a little more exciting
- 1:02:00race. But you know, last year we had a
- 1:02:02pretty decent field. I think we had, we had 10 or 11,
- 1:02:05it was first year and it was a little bit last minute when we
- 1:02:07brought it on. So we were still satisfied with
- 1:02:11the results from last year and it was a learning curve And we
- 1:02:15explained that in drivers meeting.
- 1:02:16Hey, this is the first time thing for all of us here.
- 1:02:19Let's work together, let's put our heads together at the end of
- 1:02:22it, see how we can make some improvements, make it more
- 1:02:24entertaining if need be and so forth.
- 1:02:28But when it comes to registration also, I wanted to
- 1:02:31talk a little bit about that, if you don't mind.
- 1:02:33Yeah, no, that hey yours right now.
- 1:02:35The the rules, payouts, and a fillable PDF registration form
- 1:02:41were posted a couple weeks ago. I will post those again in the
- 1:02:43morning. I had a conversation last year
- 1:02:47with my race pass about, you know, trying to figure out how
- 1:02:50to enter a team and, and they're, you know, they're just
- 1:02:53format is not set up for team racing because there's not a lot
- 1:02:56of team racing out there. But I was messing around with a
- 1:03:00little bit today and I went on my race pass.
- 1:03:02I created a Survivor 180 active class so we can, we can have,
- 1:03:10you know, live results, live timing, etcetera, through my
- 1:03:13race pass, which is what we do normally at all events, racing
- 1:03:17events, not night of destruction.
- 1:03:19But what I was able to do was create a registration as if I
- 1:03:24were a team and there's that form.
- 1:03:31But I did just post this on Facebook.
- 1:03:33If the teams go on to my race pass, they can register for
- 1:03:37Survivor 180. Want to ask for your first name?
- 1:03:41Enter the word team and when it asks for your last name on my
- 1:03:47race pass, enter your team's name and then use one of the
- 1:03:50driver's address, phone number, e-mail, etcetera to complete
- 1:03:54your registration. And getting that done ahead of
- 1:03:57time is extremely important. What I will be able to do then
- 1:04:01is kind of pre assigned transponders try and you know
- 1:04:07keep the flow going through through the pit office when they
- 1:04:11first get there to check in and so forth.
- 1:04:12But we'll also need the team registration form as well as the
- 1:04:17registration fees in the pit office at that point too.
- 1:04:21Now, if a team's not able to, let's say they're not quite sure
- 1:04:24if they're going to make it yet, you do have a 717 deadline,
- 1:04:28which I think is Friday. Would someone still be able to
- 1:04:31come to the track on Saturday and do that?
- 1:04:34Or are you guys really not wanting like last minute entries
- 1:04:37like that? No, we have, we have absolutely
- 1:04:39no problem with last minute entries.
- 1:04:41But as we all are in life and and I've found over the last
- 1:04:46nine years, there's lots of procrastination that goes on.
- 1:04:50And so therefore therefore a deadline was was somewhat
- 1:04:53necessary. But now you know, I'm probably
- 1:04:57going to end up eating my words here.
- 1:04:58So don't everybody wait till Saturday to get your get your
- 1:05:01forms in and get registered on my race pass.
- 1:05:04But you know, getting in my race pass then you know when you're
- 1:05:08in the pits, you know your other team members can be on my race
- 1:05:12pass app, watching the live timing, etcetera, so forth.
- 1:05:16We'll be able to post results at the end of it, you know, for
- 1:05:18those that want to see the full, full result information,
- 1:05:24etcetera. So for those who are watching at
- 1:05:27newparisspeedway.com, that's where I went.
- 1:05:29If you go over here to driver info and you go down to forms,
- 1:05:34that's where you're able to find that form.
- 1:05:35So I didn't show that part, but then when you click on to it,
- 1:05:41then that this is what opens. So just to show that way if they
- 1:05:47are like, Hey, show me how to do that.
- 1:05:49So driver info is where you'll find that form.
- 1:05:52Obviously, as we just talked, because I think that was there's
- 1:05:55a question yesterday that someone asked me as well.
- 1:05:58I don't know if I'll have a car done in time.
- 1:06:00I, you know, what if I don't make the pre registry, you know,
- 1:06:02cause some tracks do shut that off, right?
- 1:06:04Hey, if you're not registered in time, you can't race right?
- 1:06:07Like there's a deadline for a reason, but not that you're
- 1:06:09advertising, okay, 40 teams show up on Saturday, you know, do
- 1:06:13this because. I told you I'm going to eat my
- 1:06:15words. Like, yeah, but you know that,
- 1:06:19you know, at the same time, like you can help yourselves if, you
- 1:06:22know, you're probably coming, at least get it filled out.
- 1:06:25Maybe you wait, you know, maybe say, hey, this is the car that
- 1:06:28we have, but it might be this car instead, right?
- 1:06:31Like that they could do that too.
- 1:06:32Like this is a car we're thinking, but it might be this.
- 1:06:36Either way, we're coming. At least you know they're
- 1:06:37coming, so. We want to, we want to try to be
- 1:06:42flexible and you know, a lot of the reason that we we got into
- 1:06:46my race pass, which I think we're on, I think we started in
- 1:06:502020 with my race pass. It just it makes things easier.
- 1:06:55It makes making lineups easier, etcetera.
- 1:06:59And then when we were, I believe we were at PRI or maybe Tracy
- 1:07:04might have been at Daytona at RPM, but she got talking to the
- 1:07:07pit pay people. And you know, the fact that, you
- 1:07:11know, you buy your pit pass, pit pass on the pit pay app, you
- 1:07:16fill out your, your waiver right there within the app.
- 1:07:20Then when you get to the track that day, if you're on pit pay
- 1:07:23#1 and get you in into the pits 30 minutes earlier than than
- 1:07:26someone who isn't on pit pay, you know, you save $1.50 buck
- 1:07:3160, something like that. So it's, it's not a giant
- 1:07:33savings after pit pays fees, but when you get to the track every
- 1:07:40week, Tracy will be out when we let start letting cars in and
- 1:07:44she'll walk through the lineup of cars and scan people in and
- 1:07:48then she'll have someone with her that puts her wristband on.
- 1:07:50They're done. You don't have to go to the the
- 1:07:53ticket booth there in the pits and sign your waiver and print
- 1:07:56your name and, you know, say who you are and your blood type and
- 1:08:00lipstick color or whatever. We're, we're, we try to make it
- 1:08:05as efficient as possible. You know, it doesn't always work
- 1:08:09out, but for the most part it's worked very nice for us.
- 1:08:12What I know last year when you first introduced it, your United
- 1:08:18Destruction crew was the one that like went above and beyond
- 1:08:21probably expectations and almost all your competitors that would
- 1:08:24come to that, you know, they got on that pit pay right away and
- 1:08:27it was, you know, weekly racers. It took them a few weeks to get
- 1:08:30on to that, but you know, opening those gates a few
- 1:08:32minutes early, certain, you know, certainly helped cause
- 1:08:34people want to get that set up and if they, if 30 minutes, it's
- 1:08:3730 minutes, it's three more minutes that you, you know, you
- 1:08:39can spend on a car rather than waiting in line, so.
- 1:08:42Well, maybe it's it, it helps us get hot laps started during a
- 1:08:46regular race night, you know, on time and and there there's
- 1:08:50always, you know, there's always going to be late entries or
- 1:08:54latecomers or or so forth. And that's, you know, we just,
- 1:08:58we know that's going to happen and we and we plan for it.
- 1:09:01But typically I like to try and get all drivers checked in on a
- 1:09:05regular race night at 1:45. Then I can go up to the tower
- 1:09:10and sit with the scorer, start making lineups, etcetera, stuff
- 1:09:14like that. So how will lineups be
- 1:09:17determined for this driver 180? Because obviously they're
- 1:09:21probably not qualifying. So is that like, hey, you're
- 1:09:23first in the pit and you're 1st through tech so you're first in
- 1:09:26line or is it pill draw? Like how are you guys going to
- 1:09:29do lineups for this? You know, honestly, one thing we
- 1:09:34can confirm is we will get my hot lab session.
- 1:09:37We're kind of tracing our kind of back and forth and we want to
- 1:09:41get our race director involved as well as to are we going to
- 1:09:45are we going to do on track qualifying, we're going to do a
- 1:09:48pill draw, so forth. So we're still in the still in
- 1:09:54the all right, what are we going to do with that one stage?
- 1:09:55So I guess not 100% of everything's planned, but I
- 1:10:00guess let's call it a surprise. But we'll get the, we'll get the
- 1:10:04event schedule out here in the next day or so.
- 1:10:06So everybody knows what's going on.
- 1:10:07And that will that'll, that'll say directly what it's what it's
- 1:10:10gonna be. Yep.
- 1:10:12And it is Monday, right? So I mean there's things that
- 1:10:14you're still working out the kinks on and everything too.
- 1:10:16So that was just me thinking ahead that like, well, how will
- 1:10:20you do this, right? Because it's not like a normal
- 1:10:22race night where you go out and, you know, hot lap for, you know,
- 1:10:2616 laps and then go out and qualify for, you know, 2 laps.
- 1:10:29Like I figured like it'd be like other girls, you just show up,
- 1:10:33park and go. So that's why I was asking like,
- 1:10:36how will this work? So.
- 1:10:38We want to, we want to give the, you know, the hot, the hot laps
- 1:10:41thing, and I'm sorry I cut you off there, the hot laps, the hot
- 1:10:44laps thing is, you know, get the fans in the grandstands, get the
- 1:10:48drivers comfortable with the track layout and, you know, give
- 1:10:52them something to watch where, you know, the general admission
- 1:10:55gates and on pit passes. Those will open at 3:00.
- 1:10:59And so try to get something going on the track between 3:00
- 1:11:03and 5:00, which is when we'll start to start the race.
- 1:11:07Yeah, so yeah, that's why I was wondering because I as I was
- 1:11:10sitting here thinking about it and hearing you talk about it,
- 1:11:13like, wait, how are they going to do that?
- 1:11:16Because it is a different format.
- 1:11:18It's not just like a 200 lap enduro where right.
- 1:11:20Like it doesn't matter where you start because you might be dead
- 1:11:23last and everyone in front of you racks or crashes or spends
- 1:11:26out or whatever. But you know, it's still an
- 1:11:28enduro. So it's still a race.
- 1:11:29And, and again, the, the goal is the more laps you put on the
- 1:11:34track, you win if you have the most laps by the end of the
- 1:11:38night, right? Like in that time frame.
- 1:11:39So you might go lap down, but they might go lap down because
- 1:11:42everyone's going to, as you said, everyone's going to maybe
- 1:11:44change a tire at some point or everyone's going to have to get
- 1:11:47fuel at some point. Like there's going to and driver
- 1:11:50changes, right? You're going to have to change a
- 1:11:52driver at some point. And so that obviously when cars
- 1:11:57are sitting there idle, a lot of things can happen.
- 1:11:59So, so it's one of those like, you got to put a lot of strategy
- 1:12:03into this and probably have a game plan going in.
- 1:12:06But that's why I'm like, yeah, how are they going to do that?
- 1:12:09Yeah, there's, you know, there's lots to think about, but that
- 1:12:12that's really the final detail that we need to button up is is,
- 1:12:15you know, are we going to do qualifying?
- 1:12:17Are we going to do a pill draw? How are we, how are we going to
- 1:12:19line them up? But you know, there there's
- 1:12:21always the option. And we did this with the Vroa
- 1:12:24vintage mods over the weekend. They they're accustomed to the
- 1:12:28tracks they go to, just taking their best hot lap time.
- 1:12:30Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 1:12:32We have that, we have that option available.
- 1:12:34But you know, it's, it's not a small detail, it's not the most
- 1:12:39major details, but it is a detail.
- 1:12:41And you know, here in the next day or so, we'll have that
- 1:12:43ironed out. All right.
- 1:12:45Well, again, I know I'm excited. I missed it last year.
- 1:12:48This is one of my, I think I was in Ohio for it.
- 1:12:50And so I get to see it this year.
- 1:12:52And so that's where I'm excited just to see what you guys do and
- 1:12:57what the teams do. You know, I know Tracy always
- 1:12:59tells a story about the, the you know, the ladies team from last
- 1:13:03year and no power steering and all these other things that kind
- 1:13:07of went against them. But you know, I mean, again, 300
- 1:13:11laps or 300, you said 365 or whatever it was laps.
- 1:13:15I mean, that's, that's like all your features for a couple weeks
- 1:13:19combined with heat raising so that that's in 1/3 hour window.
- 1:13:24So it's not just turning left, you know, and not that that's
- 1:13:29wrong. There's nothing wrong with just
- 1:13:31turning left, but like you're going to have to do a lot of
- 1:13:33things on this race day. So again, if you do night of
- 1:13:37destructions, come on out. If you do weekly racing, come on
- 1:13:40out. If you've always just wanted to
- 1:13:41be on the racetrack, come on out, you know, like.
- 1:13:45And who know? You know who?
- 1:13:46Who knows where it goes from here?
- 1:13:48Yep, and we'll just see. Yeah, no, I'm, I'm excited for
- 1:13:53it. So.
- 1:13:54She is in the room, by the way. There she is.
- 1:14:00Well, are we forgetting anything I don't want?
- 1:14:03I want to make sure that we got it all covered.
- 1:14:05Nope, I, I think we got it all covered.
- 1:14:07When, you know, once again, I want to stress, you know, get
- 1:14:10your registration forms in, you know, e-mail them, bring them to
- 1:14:14the track, get on my race pass, get that taken care of.
- 1:14:18One of the biggest cogs in the wheel that we run into with,
- 1:14:20with new drivers on on race 9. And we're always very, very
- 1:14:24grateful to have, you know, a new driver show up the track.
- 1:14:27Even if someone that hasn't been there for a couple years, you
- 1:14:29know, if they don't do that, my race pass ahead of time, I'm the
- 1:14:32one down in the pit office. And if you've ever seen my
- 1:14:35fingers, these weren't made. These weren't made for typing,
- 1:14:38baby. Well, and that's at every track.
- 1:14:41They were made for dog Slinger. OH.
- 1:14:45Yeah, Ibuju, I introduced Dog Slinger to Chris.
- 1:14:47Yeah. One day.
- 1:14:48He's got to get there. Like I really need it but.
- 1:14:53He's having a day and he said I just thought of dog Slinger and
- 1:14:55I got happy so. It's a little things in life.
- 1:15:00Yeah, yeah. Amen.
- 1:15:00That's. Sad for me too.
- 1:15:01I in fact, I probably Bob doesn't know this yet, although
- 1:15:05I know he's listening, so he'll find out at the same time as you
- 1:15:08guys. But I'm like, I don't know,
- 1:15:09after this past week and I might need some dog singer tomorrow.
- 1:15:11So I might be, you know, I think for lunch tomorrow, head and
- 1:15:14order dog singer and getting my Louis special.
- 1:15:16So I'm like I although it's going to be so damn hot.
- 1:15:19I don't know if I want to leave the house.
- 1:15:20So that's what I got to figure out.
- 1:15:22But you know, I'm feeling after I need my I need my Louis
- 1:15:25special from there. So if you don't know Dog singer
- 1:15:28and you're and you're watching. We DoorDash at Tracy wants an
- 1:15:33open Door Dash. Yeah, that would be man, if they
- 1:15:38DoorDash I'd be in so in trouble.
- 1:15:41I can ask cat when I'm when I'm there next.
- 1:15:43But yeah, downtown Stevensville. So if you've never had dog
- 1:15:46Slinger, it's a small little place.
- 1:15:48It does have outdoor seating in downtown Stevensville on Saint
- 1:15:50Joseph Ave. just by the corner of John Beers Rd.
- 1:15:55So if you are coming off of I-94 exit 22, if you're coming from
- 1:15:59Indiana, you just go down John Beers Rd. all the way until you
- 1:16:03get to downtown Stevensville. You'll pass a church at the top
- 1:16:07of the hill, turn to your right and it's right there.
- 1:16:10If you're coming from Kalamazoo, exit 23 and go by the Meijer and
- 1:16:14swoop around so. You might get a new sponsor out
- 1:16:17of that. Plug that.
- 1:16:18Was what I said. I think you, I think Luke can
- 1:16:20sniff out dog Slinger from anywhere in the surrounding
- 1:16:22counties. Yeah, I was actually about doing
- 1:16:25a, a camera and all that. I said, hey, a camera, you know,
- 1:16:28and and I talked about, you know, putting their logo on the
- 1:16:31car. Like we've had that conversation
- 1:16:33with with with the team there. So again, they I mean, I walk
- 1:16:37in. You might.
- 1:16:38Get a trade for like punch card for 75 Lewis specials or.
- 1:16:45Something yeah, I would when I was teaching and I know this is
- 1:16:49a sidebar, but that's OK because you know it it doesn't always
- 1:16:52have to be just question the answer.
- 1:16:54But you know, when I, when I was teaching that's I didn't, you
- 1:16:59know, I-94 was under construction.
- 1:17:01Red Arrow was basically blocked like Stevensville that you to
- 1:17:04get north to South, you had to go all these which ways.
- 1:17:07It's almost like The Simpsons where they put the Dome over a
- 1:17:10certain spot in Stevensville. And so there's no way across to
- 1:17:14like where McDonald's and Culver's and all the more unless
- 1:17:16you went all the way down and around.
- 1:17:18And you know, when you got a 30-40 minute lunch doing that,
- 1:17:22you, you're spending more time on the road than eating right.
- 1:17:24So you got to eat and drive at the same time.
- 1:17:26But with dog Slinger, so easy, 2 miles down, down the road from
- 1:17:29where I taught, 2 miles back, sat in the parking lot and ate
- 1:17:33it or went my principal. She'd be like chili cheese dog
- 1:17:37or you know, or whatever. Like she would message and say,
- 1:17:41because I'd just go to her office.
- 1:17:42It'd be one of those days. I'm like dog Slinger.
- 1:17:45Oh God, yes, you know, it's so, you know, I would bring her back
- 1:17:48dog Slinger too, because it always warmed our hearts.
- 1:17:51You know it always made. A That's two punch cards now.
- 1:17:55But yeah, so definitely, oh, Kenzie, you missed her.
- 1:17:59She's on at seven O 5. So once we're off, you'll be
- 1:18:02able to go back and watch that on YouTube.
- 1:18:04So thank you, Kenzie at being a mini wedge racer.
- 1:18:06Sorry, but but yeah, I've talked with Dog Singer about that
- 1:18:09'cause even when I walk in, I mean, the one day they had like
- 1:18:12a a special where they were giving hot wheel cars out and it
- 1:18:16was for like kids and all that. And they had some extra at the
- 1:18:18end 'cause I went there at the end.
- 1:18:20That's just the time I went. It wasn't on purpose or
- 1:18:23anything. That's just when I had time and
- 1:18:25they sent me home with a car. They're like, we know you love
- 1:18:27racing and you do all this and you know, but I pull in the
- 1:18:30parking lot and they already, if there's no one in line in front
- 1:18:32of me, they already have the order started to punch in.
- 1:18:34And then they'll go, is, is mom and Bob eating today?
- 1:18:38And then on Saturdays, they now know I'm getting food for New
- 1:18:40Paris. And so they're like, what, what
- 1:18:43would they like down at New Paris today?
- 1:18:44And so, Chris? Special.
- 1:18:47You know what they could do if they use square?
- 1:18:49Just program that right into their square and hit the Lewis
- 1:18:53quick button. Hit the Lewis button.
- 1:18:56They do. I mean, they do have online
- 1:18:57ordering and I have suggested that it is a special like we
- 1:18:59should do a Lewis special one time just because they do they
- 1:19:02have they're they're customers. They call fans hot dog fans.
- 1:19:06They're they're fans that will recommend like, hey, what if you
- 1:19:10did this? And so, you know, sometimes
- 1:19:12they'll say our, you know, our one of our loyal customers
- 1:19:14recommend it. Excuse me, you know, doing this
- 1:19:17hot dog. And so we're doing this for
- 1:19:19sausage or whatever. So yeah, I'm.
- 1:19:21I'm looking at the menu right now and the hair of the dog
- 1:19:24caught my eye, which is a bacon wrapped dog croissant.
- 1:19:28Bacon wrapped dog wrapped in a croissant topped with tater
- 1:19:30tots, beer cheese, a poached egg, sriracha and bacon
- 1:19:34crumbles. Yep.
- 1:19:36That does take the egg off I'm in.
- 1:19:38Well, and they have, and you are looking at their menu, right?
- 1:19:42And they, so they have a, they call it the worst of the week.
- 1:19:44Every Tuesday they post it or you know, they open at 10 and
- 1:19:48they're open until 7, so 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM or Tuesday through
- 1:19:52Saturday. They're closed Mondays and
- 1:19:54Sundays, but they'll have them their worst of the week.
- 1:19:57So lunch cards. But well, that's what I talked
- 1:20:02to them about. I said, what if I did a worst of
- 1:20:04the week every Tuesday on my page?
- 1:20:06I could do a worst of the week. And it doesn't have to be like a
- 1:20:09bad thing, right? Because in their case, their
- 1:20:11worst of the week is like, I mean, you had it a few weeks ago
- 1:20:14when we got that. Oh, what was it?
- 1:20:16But it's that like, loaded brat or whatever, loaded sausage, Big
- 1:20:19Daddy, right? You and I.
- 1:20:21I had the big No, I, yeah, I brought you the big daddy.
- 1:20:23You had that big daddy because I said Bob and I had it and it was
- 1:20:26really good. And I said you're going to need
- 1:20:28a fork and knife for this. And so I got I brought Chris a
- 1:20:31big Daddy and. And an angioplasty.
- 1:20:37But yeah, it was, and Chris loved it.
- 1:20:39It was good. No, I haven't.
- 1:20:42Had a lot saying I like spaghettis, but you know, but
- 1:20:47you have to have contacts. You have a picture of it saying
- 1:20:49this is what I'm talking about when I say that, but man, that
- 1:20:52was so good too. But.
- 1:20:55But yeah, they they have great stuff there.
- 1:20:57So again, downtown Stevensville. So if you're in Saint Joe and
- 1:21:00you want to go to the Bluff or you're going to Warren Dunes
- 1:21:03State Park over in Bridgeman, I know all these, Yeah.
- 1:21:06Org cards. We talked like 15 minutes dog
- 1:21:10fling around my money we had. Chris on to talk to Enduro and
- 1:21:13Hot dogs. Well, I do, I do want to make
- 1:21:16one other comment because it's, you know, there's different ways
- 1:21:19of using a race track, but for the last, I think three years
- 1:21:23now or 4 trace the the local high school.
- 1:21:29Oh yeah, Fairfield. In the new Paris area, which is
- 1:21:32the Fairfield Falcons, which is Tracy's, Tracy's alumnus there,
- 1:21:37they approached just a few years ago and asked on their final day
- 1:21:40of summer workouts if they could make that at the track.
- 1:21:46So this morning was this year's version of it.
- 1:21:49And we typically get there 430 quarter five in the morning, get
- 1:21:53all the lights turned on for them.
- 1:21:55So they got a full lit track and they run around the track, they
- 1:21:59bike around the track, they do stuff in the infield.
- 1:22:02And it's just, it's just really enjoyable watching.
- 1:22:05And what a great group of kids, just their parents hang around
- 1:22:09there to watch them. Some of the coaches bring their
- 1:22:13own little kids with them and they get to ride their bikes
- 1:22:15around the track. And, you know, just what a
- 1:22:17grateful bunch. They all thank you on the way
- 1:22:19out. Yeah, I was sitting, I was
- 1:22:22sitting there today behind the the main grandstands, you know,
- 1:22:25trying to stay out of sight, stay out of their way and out of
- 1:22:28out of my left eye, I see a red light and I'm like, well, that's
- 1:22:31the backstretched wall. Well, it was disappeared.
- 1:22:34And I thought I was imagining things are just not awake.
- 1:22:37Then I see a green light. Then I see a yellow light.
- 1:22:40Well, one of the coach's kids had climbed up into the flag
- 1:22:43stand upon the switches for the track lights.
- 1:22:45So it was like, you know, and his mom was underneath the flag
- 1:22:49stand, you know, making sure they didn't fall out of there.
- 1:22:51But creative little guys they were.
- 1:22:55Just not just so we don't get Fairfield in trouble here.
- 1:22:57This is not mandatory. It's not a full, you know,
- 1:23:01'cause they're not into practice season yet.
- 1:23:03It's conditioning. So it's not like the full teams
- 1:23:05out there. It's not all the full coaches
- 1:23:06out. Yeah, this is.
- 1:23:07It's just a fun kind of thing, so.
- 1:23:09And that's your public service announcement for the attorneys.
- 1:23:15Yeah, for the IHSA who might be listening and everything.
- 1:23:18No, right. Someone from the IHSA may be
- 1:23:20like, hey, I heard there's an organized practice going on.
- 1:23:22Yeah. Not an organized practice.
- 1:23:24Not a Nope. Although they're probably since
- 1:23:27Indiana starts, I mean, you guys got the Elkhart County Fair 2
- 1:23:30weeks. So I mean, they're football.
- 1:23:31They're they're probably almost near getting into two days and
- 1:23:34everything. I could look at my book.
- 1:23:36I'm actually an IHSA official, not football.
- 1:23:39So yeah, I think it's August. 1st but August that's OK yeah,
- 1:23:43but so again, one of those cool workouts I know up here the
- 1:23:46teams like to go to the dunes, they do a lot of the like
- 1:23:49Lakeshore and go down to the dunes.
- 1:23:52So go over to the bluff here like Saint Joe obviously goes to
- 1:23:57Silver Beach and do does all the and then Gene Clock Park, which
- 1:24:00is on the other side where the lighthouse is.
- 1:24:03You know the lighthouse Lighthouse.
- 1:24:04Not the pier light, but the real lighthouse.
- 1:24:07And how do you get to dog Slinger from there?
- 1:24:10So you you go down Saint Joe Ave. and no no right arrow
- 1:24:14highway. Make sure drive right arrow
- 1:24:16highway into punch. Cards my little burger.
- 1:24:20Place up there. Don't play.
- 1:24:21I can. Oh, you're talking red a Max,
- 1:24:23aren't you? The burger?
- 1:24:24No. No, no, no up there.
- 1:24:26Yeah or yeah. Main Main.
- 1:24:28Street. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:30But yeah, I call it Eau Claire when you guys call it Eau
- 1:24:33Claire, Mike, I know that's probably the correct way to say
- 1:24:36it, but most people in the area just call it Eau Claire.
- 1:24:39You know, there's just a bunch of Beavers over there, but.
- 1:24:42But yeah, so, you know, they. But, yeah, So being here along
- 1:24:46the dune, yeah. Irish.
- 1:24:53Yeah, yeah, Michigan. It's Wolverines instead of
- 1:24:55cheese beds you. Know at least, at least in in
- 1:24:57Wisconsin, it's Eau Claire. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:00Around here you get people who call it both ways.
- 1:25:03You could tell those who aren't from the area, they say Eau
- 1:25:05Claire, and then those who are from the area say Eau Claire.
- 1:25:08So it's kind of one of those like even for Dwojak, you can
- 1:25:10tell when someone lives in Michigan or whatever or in this
- 1:25:13area, they know it's Dwajak and you can, I was making fun of
- 1:25:17Joel. He might still be watching, but
- 1:25:18he what what did he call it? The one day he mispronounced and
- 1:25:21I went, that's not how you say it.
- 1:25:23And I said, if you're a Lakeshore person, you say dog
- 1:25:25patch, but that's also not really PC correct anymore that
- 1:25:29the rivalry is not the same like it used to be in the 90s and
- 1:25:31early 2000s. But you know, so in Lakeshore
- 1:25:34you called it Dog Patch and and Dwojak had a lovely name for
- 1:25:38Lakeshore people and so which I we.
- 1:25:41Are so awesome. Yeah.
- 1:25:43But gosh. It if.
- 1:25:46You wanted but. But we got, you know, we got
- 1:25:49talking dog Slinger and so we're just going that way.
- 1:25:51But also how, you know, we don't have race tracking area, but how
- 1:25:54cool that you guys open your facility for a high school to do
- 1:25:57that, right? And so, you know, to have that
- 1:26:00and, and have that opportunity. And again, it's one way of how
- 1:26:03race tracks can be a part of the community, right?
- 1:26:06Like, you know, that's an opportunity that you never know,
- 1:26:09someone might come out there and go, man, I didn't know this was
- 1:26:11here. Well, we've been here for 78
- 1:26:13years and right, 'cause how many?
- 1:26:15I mean, there are people even in South Bend, they'll say, well, I
- 1:26:19didn't know racetrack was there. Yeah, like long time, you know,
- 1:26:23but, but obviously Kalamazoo, 76 years.
- 1:26:26Oh, there's a racetrack in Kalamazoo.
- 1:26:28Yeah, it's been going for a long time.
- 1:26:29It was, in fact, there's a dirt track at one time, right.
- 1:26:31So it's one of those things that, again, just how cool that
- 1:26:34you guys do that, allow the football team to come in and do
- 1:26:36workouts. And, and if they reached out to
- 1:26:39do that, I mean, some places probably would have said no, no,
- 1:26:41can't have that liabilities and all the things.
- 1:26:43And while things can happen, at least we're doing it in a safe
- 1:26:47spot. You know, they're walled in,
- 1:26:49they're on, you know, property. You can show them those super
- 1:26:52bright lights that I cannot wait for reveal the hammer to rate
- 1:26:54Thunder. I guess you.
- 1:26:58Know last year I only had to turn the front stretch on for
- 1:27:01the football team that was so bright.
- 1:27:03Oh yeah, yeah, those super bright lights now.
- 1:27:06I mean, I love those lights. They're they might be my we're.
- 1:27:08Getting we're getting back to racing now there.
- 1:27:11We go, we transition back into racing.
- 1:27:13Yeah, well, and. Oh, Kenzie, she's not listening.
- 1:27:18I. Interrupted you again, but quick
- 1:27:20plug and I'll shut up about the admission prices.
- 1:27:24Adult general admission is $10 this week.
- 1:27:28Oh, OK. So 10 dollars, $5 for kids, Kids
- 1:27:335 and under are free. Just kind of a kind of normal in
- 1:27:37that aspect. But adult general admission is
- 1:27:40$10 and seems pleasure. Of course, concessions etcetera
- 1:27:45will be open. Yep so yeah $10 to get in and
- 1:27:49watch well over it's going to be well over 300 laps because red
- 1:27:52flags don't count as part of the time frame.
- 1:27:54So it's not like it's a running clock with red flags or anything
- 1:27:57like you're going to because that's the only time you'll stop
- 1:27:59the race right. You won't have like cautions or
- 1:28:01anything. It's going to be green or red
- 1:28:02like a like an enduro yes Yep. So if it's red flag time stops
- 1:28:06so and you're probably going to have over Oh well over 300 laps
- 1:28:10of of racing easily. I mean, if you guys had like 3
- 1:28:13whatever it was last year, I mean you're you're going to get
- 1:28:15there again. It might.
- 1:28:16Who knows, you might get a team who's just bonkers fast and
- 1:28:19might get close at 400 mark so. Well, there's there's a couple
- 1:28:23less, a couple less turns involved here and yeah,
- 1:28:26obviously a little bit less distance by changing to the Robo
- 1:28:31Robo layout. So, you know, maybe we hit the
- 1:28:33400 mark. It may be it's less, maybe less
- 1:28:36distance because by the time you go.
- 1:28:39Yeah, who knows? It runs it out.
- 1:28:41I I. Think it may be the other.
- 1:28:44Way, either way, it's just going to, it's just going to be a fun
- 1:28:46night. Oh, absolutely.
- 1:28:47So I'll do the I'll do the graphic one more time because it
- 1:28:51is almost 8:30. So you know, this is a good
- 1:28:53chance that the half hour mark survivor 180 information.
- 1:28:57So again, it's you one car got and go style, not car, but you
- 1:29:01can also bring a Hornet. So if you have a Hornet, three
- 1:29:04team members, so you do have to have three team members.
- 1:29:06It's $100 registration for the team.
- 1:29:08The registration form is on new pairspeedway.com.
- 1:29:11Under the tab Driver Info, click forms.
- 1:29:14This price does not include the pit pass, which is $30 on pit
- 1:29:18pay. Easy to do.
- 1:29:20You go in and go to pit, pay New Pairs Speedway, upload your
- 1:29:23driver's license, do the things and you sign the waiver form and
- 1:29:28you can do that and save some money or you can pay $35 at the
- 1:29:31gate on Saturday. Each driver on that team must
- 1:29:35log at least 30 minutes during the three hour enduro.
- 1:29:39So that's 90 minutes between the three team members and then the
- 1:29:42last 90 you can divvy up however you see fit and then 20 plus
- 1:29:45teams. There will be 2000 to win again
- 1:29:48the payout the if you go to photos on New Pair Speedway's
- 1:29:51Facebook page, go to Photos scrolled just a little bit.
- 1:29:54It's right there. It says at the very top 2006
- 1:29:58survivor Enduro 180 and that has all the information on there.
- 1:30:02And then if there is less teams, although it doesn't sound like
- 1:30:05it looks like we're we're trending up on the team count.
- 1:30:09But if there were to be less 10,000 women, which is still you
- 1:30:12know, go to junkyard by decent car, you know, for 23400 bucks
- 1:30:16you can still walk out a winner on the positive side there.
- 1:30:20So again, a chance to do something different, whether
- 1:30:23you're a non competitor or weekly racer or haven't raced
- 1:30:26before, want to come out to the racetrack and give it a shot.
- 1:30:29Might be a spectator, you know, racer or drifter and you want to
- 1:30:32do something different. Come on out.
- 1:30:34So again, racing starts at 5, gates open at you said 2.
- 1:30:39Pit gates open at 2:00. Spectator gates open at 3:00.
- 1:30:42Three. Yeah, and you'll have
- 1:30:43concessions. All that $10.
- 1:30:45What are kids 6 through 12? Are they 5 bucks or less?
- 1:30:485 bucks? 5 bucks.
- 1:30:50So $10.00 for adults, kids 6 through 12 or $5 and kids 5 and
- 1:30:54under are free. And what's a kid pit pass?
- 1:30:59They're the same. Same.
- 1:31:00All right. So, so again, definitely take
- 1:31:03advantage of that. But other than like I said, I
- 1:31:06know I'm excited to to be there and see what you guys are going
- 1:31:08to do this year with that. Yeah, your ladder's still up.
- 1:31:11You didn't take down but. Yeah, that's my fault.
- 1:31:14We got, we got busy talking. I, I, hey, I was good for most
- 1:31:17of the season, but after that race.
- 1:31:19Would you hit his head on on the way out?
- 1:31:20But. Not Oh, we're doing just fine.
- 1:31:27Your microphone's the issues earlier.
- 1:31:28Yeah, I guess so. Actually.
- 1:31:31The puppy. Oh my Axel.
- 1:31:37But other than that, again, Chris, thank you.
- 1:31:40And Tracy, I know Tracy on the sidelines, but I know she's part
- 1:31:43of the conversation too. Thank you guys both for coming
- 1:31:45on again. And I know I asked pretty last
- 1:31:47minute. I sprung alive on Tracy.
- 1:31:49You know, she was on the side of me.
- 1:31:51And I'm like watching all this, but let's let's get some back
- 1:31:55story behind this. And so I had to find the victim.
- 1:31:58And she just happened to be the first victim that I saw.
- 1:32:00And then we tried to pass straws to see who would actually do it.
- 1:32:03And then I just turned and said, hey, Tracy, she was on the And
- 1:32:07it's like, now you can't. That was when I was hiding in
- 1:32:10the pit office. Yeah, well, yeah, you're you had
- 1:32:12a lot going on in the pit office.
- 1:32:14And again, you're you. Guys are.
- 1:32:16You know, you're short staffed on Saturday.
- 1:32:18So you know, that's, I mean, that's the thing like you work
- 1:32:20through all that and got stuff done.
- 1:32:21But you know that I mean, again, people got to give credit where
- 1:32:26credit is due. Like, you know, when tracks are
- 1:32:28short staffed, that means, you know, a lot of people have to
- 1:32:30take on extra, extra roles and tasks and all that.
- 1:32:33And so so I mean, you definitely, you know, everyone
- 1:32:37was kind of passing around what to do should jump in so big
- 1:32:40credit cuz there's some places that Steph be like, no, that's
- 1:32:44not what I'm paid to do. And they would just leave right.
- 1:32:46So. No, we got.
- 1:32:48We do a lot of cross training. We do a lot of cross training.
- 1:32:50We. Do a lot of we have a lot of
- 1:32:52utility people as I say, which is great, you know, and
- 1:32:55especially when this coli lettuce break out is going
- 1:32:57around and takes part of our people out.
- 1:33:00That's what was going on last minute.
- 1:33:01Yeah, our, our, our normal pit store, Jason, we got E coli
- 1:33:05poisoning or whatever. And so Josh, that normally works
- 1:33:09security with Eddie. He was Pitt steward for the
- 1:33:13night. So I kind of stayed down there
- 1:33:14and trained him at that. And you know, and he'll, you
- 1:33:17know, great people, they'll, they'll do what you ask.
- 1:33:21You know, a lot of our people, if if something happened at 2:00
- 1:33:23in the morning over the racetrack, we needed help fixing
- 1:33:25something. Or or maybe Chris shows up there
- 1:33:28last Friday morning to pick up a gas tank for Tracy's Hornet and
- 1:33:32finds a tree laying in front of the gate.
- 1:33:34Yeah, You know, that was that was a real joy.
- 1:33:36But. Well, and, and kudos to our
- 1:33:38safety crib because they end up becoming gate people when we
- 1:33:42opened and so we got our gate people normally they're normally
- 1:33:45there. So thank you to them.
- 1:33:47So yeah, no, everybody jumps in really well and they know a lot
- 1:33:50of different positions there, which is great.
- 1:33:52So, and thank you once again for having us on this.
- 1:33:56I think it's the third time we've been on.
- 1:33:57So we're extremely grateful for, you know, a being able to come
- 1:34:01on and being invited to come on and, and extremely grateful for,
- 1:34:05you know, the relationship and the friendship we've built with
- 1:34:07you guys. Oh, no.
- 1:34:09And like I said, this is you know, and I and I know Buj.
- 1:34:11And for dog Slinger? And and for dog Slinger, I mean,
- 1:34:14again, you know, like I so you know, for those who don't know,
- 1:34:17Buju has his own podcast on Sundays now that he's doing he
- 1:34:21was going to do live, but he was a little camera shy.
- 1:34:23So he's recording and but bleachers and features.
- 1:34:28And so you know, it was like what a 40 minute episode, 50
- 1:34:31minute episode, something like that that he did.
- 1:34:34But, you know, he does, you know, it was a laid back where
- 1:34:37just conversation. And I know sometimes him and I
- 1:34:39even talked about this that sometimes, you know, we really
- 1:34:41pack like and by we, you know, I sometimes don't think about the
- 1:34:45timing where I really pack an episode, you know, where there's
- 1:34:49not sometimes there's not room to breathe a little bit, right.
- 1:34:52And so we're Thursday, we purposely put in that, you know,
- 1:34:56room to breathe and and it's a little bit of a different
- 1:34:59format. But you know, sometimes after
- 1:35:02listening to his show too, it's like, yeah, it's always a good
- 1:35:04reminder that, yeah, this is a racing podcast, but it's OK to
- 1:35:09have other conversations and having a side conversation like
- 1:35:11we did, you know, about a really incredible small business,
- 1:35:14right, Small businesses supporting small business.
- 1:35:17So I think that's right. Yeah.
- 1:35:21You know, but hopefully people go and try it out because I
- 1:35:23mean, it's definitely worth the trip and it.
- 1:35:25Was a hell of an infomercial, I tell you what.
- 1:35:27Because now I'm hungry. While they're open tomorrow,
- 1:35:31although you work, but they're open.
- 1:35:32And you can seal the bottom of a boat.
- 1:35:34Go go fishing with it too. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you can go
- 1:35:37hang out at the beach and eat some dog Slinger.
- 1:35:41Just know it's double plate season though, so you just have
- 1:35:44to remember that we like to take over the beaches at this time of
- 1:35:47the year. But but yeah, that's something
- 1:35:49that, you know, it's kind of like, you know what, let's talk
- 1:35:52about dog singer. That's fine with me.
- 1:35:53That's something that, you know, it's a fun little thing and and
- 1:35:56it's and it peels the curtain back that it doesn't always have
- 1:35:59to be just racing, right. Like cool to just sometimes
- 1:36:03shoot the breeze. And so.
- 1:36:05So yeah. So that's where, yeah, you know,
- 1:36:07and talking about that, though, it's like, you know, it's
- 1:36:09always, that's something that Bouche and I've talked about is
- 1:36:11that, you know, bringing on, you know, those who we can, you
- 1:36:14know, to support them. And I knew with the Survivor
- 1:36:16180, you know, it's one of those let's let's get this out there
- 1:36:21more if we can, right, Because, you know, there's people who
- 1:36:24might not follow new pairs who may miss it.
- 1:36:26And I do plan to post a lot about it this week, you know,
- 1:36:29just to really get it out there. I have Slinger stuff that I have
- 1:36:32to balance that with. And then obviously Kalamazoo on
- 1:36:34Friday, but this enduro, it's like, you know, there, I have a
- 1:36:37lot of night of destruction connections that, you know, hey,
- 1:36:41you know, what are you doing Saturday that I've messaged on
- 1:36:43Facebook or whatever. So, you know, I I think it's
- 1:36:47cool, like let's get cars out there.
- 1:36:49Let's give it a shot, give it a try.
- 1:36:50If you haven't been a new person in a while, come give it a shot.
- 1:36:53You know, I know, obviously, I mean, if you get on Facebook on
- 1:36:57Sundays, you can see a lot of people seeing a lot of different
- 1:37:00things about all these tracks in the area or Saturday mornings.
- 1:37:02I mean, it's just whatever day it is, whatever the day after,
- 1:37:05right? And for years.
- 1:37:07And it's like, give it a shot, Come see yourself, you know,
- 1:37:09don't just based on what you know, Big Bird said, you know,
- 1:37:14I'm out, you know, because Cookie Monster may feel
- 1:37:16different. So, you know, they you just come
- 1:37:20get a shot. I mean, it is Sesame Street and
- 1:37:22sometimes people do need words of the day.
- 1:37:24So whatever work you might come up with, I'm sure we can
- 1:37:29brainstorm a few off air. But you know, a letter of the
- 1:37:34day, a number of the day could be the number one.
- 1:37:37But whatever way you display it is up to you.
- 1:37:39But you know, but that's something that again, it's like,
- 1:37:42how can we, you know, help get cars?
- 1:37:45How can we help get fans? How can we help get people?
- 1:37:47And so that's why with Leah, you know, we brought her a couple
- 1:37:50times, I've joked with her. I said it's like the Leah Dibble
- 1:37:52network. But you know, but it's, you
- 1:37:55know, it's like, what can we do, right?
- 1:37:56We have this opportunity on Mondays and Thursdays to to do
- 1:38:01that. So it's Monday.
- 1:38:03And if we waited until Thursday, it would be too late, probably.
- 1:38:06So where, you know, you could do a race car advertisement on
- 1:38:10Thursday, but for an enduro when you really have to do got and
- 1:38:13go, that might take a few days to build.
- 1:38:15So it's like Monday works better in that case.
- 1:38:18So again, thank you guys as always for making time to come
- 1:38:20on. Well, once again, we appreciate
- 1:38:24appreciate you having us and, you know, appreciate all the
- 1:38:27support and we do appreciate you, you know, jumping on the
- 1:38:31mic and sharing, sharing those duties with the with Jeremy this
- 1:38:34year. And I think we're going to coin
- 1:38:36a new phrase at the, you know, at the new Paris Speedway.
- 1:38:41Drive fast. Stay out of the grass.
- 1:38:43I. Like that I.
- 1:38:47Spent all day Sunday on the tractor with the sweeper on the
- 1:38:50back sweeping the track, Big Red as you call it.
- 1:38:53And then I was out there this morning again on that thing.
- 1:38:56So it's, yeah, stayed on the grass.
- 1:39:01Yep, yeah, I it looked red. I mean it from the roof it
- 1:39:05looked red. But once you said it was orange,
- 1:39:07I'm like, well, then call it Carrot Top.
- 1:39:08You know, I mean Carrot Top. Somebody educate Lewis on Kubota
- 1:39:14please. And I, and I should know because
- 1:39:18there's one in Stevensville right across from the high
- 1:39:20school. Like there's literally a whole
- 1:39:21dealer right there. So I should, I should know that.
- 1:39:24But I mean, unless it's a John Deere, it all looks the same to
- 1:39:27me. You know, just like I, I, I
- 1:39:30don't get on tractors, I don't drive tractors, I don't do
- 1:39:32anything with tractors, so. Yeah.
- 1:39:34Yeah. Remember the cross training?
- 1:39:37Yeah, yeah, yeah. You may be on that Kubota
- 1:39:40someday. So haven't done it yet, but but
- 1:39:46yeah, I can bribe you with dog singer be like, I don't know, I
- 1:39:48don't know. Sometimes I want to get on the
- 1:39:49flag stand and just from the flag stand, but, you know, wave
- 1:39:54a flag or something. Do, you know, be like someone
- 1:39:56else can take over videography. There's a lot of people who
- 1:39:59think they can do it. So get up on the roof and do it.
- 1:40:01So, you know, show me how to do it.
- 1:40:02But but. That that falls the same for
- 1:40:05being a promoter, track owner. There's a lot of pros out there.
- 1:40:10Yep, Yep. Well, and that's I told someone
- 1:40:13the one day because they were just being downright rude.
- 1:40:16And so I know some Racing America people and I have some
- 1:40:20connections to the pricing. I'm like, OK, you know when they
- 1:40:23were saying something and then we'll and we'll not in there,
- 1:40:26we'll do something positive. But I'm like, OK.
- 1:40:28Racing America videographer gets $300.00 for a day.
- 1:40:32Their audio people get about 300 to 500 depending on experience.
- 1:40:36These are individual positions. Social media gets 150 for the
- 1:40:39day and then you have a broadcast manager who does all
- 1:40:42the editing and the producing and all the things with the
- 1:40:44graphics. They get about 405 hundred, some
- 1:40:47300 depending where they are, their experience.
- 1:40:49And I went, so Add all that up, that's about $950 to a little
- 1:40:53over $1100. Twelve, $100.
- 1:40:55And I went, I can tell you top row doesn't make that.
- 1:40:58And I do social media. I'm the videographer.
- 1:41:00I do all the graphics and the lineups and all the things and
- 1:41:03I'm editing and I'm publishing and I do my own audio.
- 1:41:06So I'm like, add up all those positions.
- 1:41:08I could tell you nowhere near that.
- 1:41:10So I said, if you're willing to go do that, go on the roof.
- 1:41:15Show me how. So I'm like, because I'm
- 1:41:18learning as I go, right? But it's like all those
- 1:41:20positions and one person. So it's like just remember that,
- 1:41:24you know, we're, you know, just like Buju when he's doing his
- 1:41:27stuff, he doesn't maybe get it as much yet, but he will as he
- 1:41:29gets bigger. And it's going to be like go do
- 1:41:32Buju stuff then you know, you don't like his podcast, go go do
- 1:41:36his podcast, then show him how to do it.
- 1:41:38So cuz there's a lot of people who think they could do podcast
- 1:41:40and I don't see him doing it yet.
- 1:41:41So it's like, you know, we're we're doing our part to promote
- 1:41:45the sport. So you know, I'm just until
- 1:41:48you've done it or walk those shoes, right.
- 1:41:49That's why I was Leah devils. Number one thing that I always
- 1:41:52remember is your savings account on the line.
- 1:41:55And if it's not, then I don't know.
- 1:41:58You know, probably don't have much to say about it then,
- 1:42:00right, because it's not your savings, it's not your future.
- 1:42:03So it's like, I don't know, people just need to appreciate,
- 1:42:06you know, like what you guys do having a track.
- 1:42:08I mean, look how many tracks in this area alone for sale or
- 1:42:12closed or bulldozed, you know, and Jesus took the wheel on one
- 1:42:16and dollar generals and data centers can take the wheels on
- 1:42:19the others, right? So it's like we need to remember
- 1:42:21that. Like, you know, we have these
- 1:42:23places. Let's be mindful of that.
- 1:42:25Let's be appreciative. That doesn't mean everything's
- 1:42:26hunky Dory, you know, but that also doesn't mean just
- 1:42:31adjudicate everything on Facebook, right?
- 1:42:33That's what's so exhausting is everything has to be on
- 1:42:35Facebook. It's like, come on, you know,
- 1:42:38like we can have adult conversations in person.
- 1:42:40So but also just remember like there's people who are willing
- 1:42:43to do this stuff and take all that.
- 1:42:45So it's like, you know, we could be like Rockford, we could be
- 1:42:50like Ileana, you know, like let's just remember that.
- 1:42:52So, so that's why I definitely appreciate you guys since like,
- 1:42:55let's get you on here to talk about this 180 enduro because
- 1:42:58it's one more thing that you guys are doing, an opportunity
- 1:43:00to go do something. We only have so many.
- 1:43:03It's going to snow soon. It may not feel like it's
- 1:43:05tomorrow, but it's July. That means we're not that many
- 1:43:08months away from snow and blizzards and -20 wind chill.
- 1:43:14It's coming. Sooner.
- 1:43:18I'm hurt. I don't know what to say.
- 1:43:20That's a. 4 letter word is all I'm going.
- 1:43:22To say, by the way, is dog Slinger seasonal or is that year
- 1:43:24round? It's no year round.
- 1:43:26Year round. You can always have dog Slinger.
- 1:43:29OK, bye. Just asking.
- 1:43:32No, we're all human beings. None of us are perfect.
- 1:43:35You know, as track owners, promoters, we've said it before,
- 1:43:39we'll say it again. You know, we make our mistakes.
- 1:43:41We probably make mistakes nightly.
- 1:43:43We try to, if we do, we try to own it the best we can.
- 1:43:46And, you know, it's just sometimes on social media, it's
- 1:43:50like Tracy Rye's been behind the wheel of the car.
- 1:43:53You know, we're not, we're not out there on the track, you
- 1:43:56know, and, and drivers make mistakes too.
- 1:43:58That's we're all human, you know, Let's not kill a sport.
- 1:44:01Let's have some fun. Yep, like pulling into the
- 1:44:04infield where it's flooded instead of going up top and
- 1:44:06pulling out the exit gate there. Mistakes happen.
- 1:44:13They do. We don't know anyone who did
- 1:44:15that. Though Nope, Nope, don't know
- 1:44:18nothing about it. I heard something about Buju and
- 1:44:21a Hornet but I haven't seen the car yet.
- 1:44:23And yeah. Technically I'm not new Parace
- 1:44:25legal if I read the rules right, so we'll have to have discussion
- 1:44:27on that, but. Oh, we will.
- 1:44:32And you may before the end of the year, see Tracy's Hornet
- 1:44:35out. So she's had that for, oh shoot,
- 1:44:38910 nine or ten years now. Oh, Billy.
- 1:44:40Still. Running strong as soon as soon
- 1:44:42as somebody gets back out of the barn and changes the gas.
- 1:44:45Tank. Brake lines and it's not time.
- 1:44:48But. Yep.
- 1:44:50Oh, I. Was going to say, I know you
- 1:44:52guys have been super busy, but Benny Miller, we talked about
- 1:44:55Motörhead Miller Mafia doing like the Motörhead Miller race.
- 1:44:58I know sometimes again, you guys are so busy that sometimes it's
- 1:45:01easy to forget. But for Benny Miller, I know he
- 1:45:04read or he said he's going to. That's a complete oversight.
- 1:45:07So here in front of God and everybody, Benny, I apologize.
- 1:45:11We will get ahold of you. So I, I just saw that come
- 1:45:14through and I'm like, oh, better remind you because I know he was
- 1:45:18talking about, I didn't know when he was contacting anybody
- 1:45:21knew he's contacting you guys. And so, but I, like I said, I
- 1:45:23know you guys are busy. I mean, Chris, you spent so many
- 1:45:25hours at the racetrack now that you're doing all these different
- 1:45:28things and then working on Tracy's Hornet so she can get in
- 1:45:31the Hornet and, you know, go race around and show them, show
- 1:45:35them how to do it right. So people forget that she raced
- 1:45:40A Hornet before. So, you know, she knows what
- 1:45:42she's doing. So I'll.
- 1:45:43Let. I'll let her respond to that.
- 1:45:47That's. Good anyways, but if it does
- 1:45:50make it out to the track this year, which I'm sure it will,
- 1:45:52it's it's it's all a fun thing. And so I, I think the moms race
- 1:45:59was talked about at nod for maybe starters, but we'll, we'll
- 1:46:02find out. Well, again, that'll be really
- 1:46:05exciting. GI Jane.
- 1:46:06By the way, you don't have to be a mom on our track.
- 1:46:08Oh, that's right, GI Jane. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:46:11I think she might challenge Ralph Reese too.
- 1:46:13I don't know. Well, she'll have to show
- 1:46:17nothing to have. Fun.
- 1:46:19She'll have to show the Pitbull in her right.
- 1:46:21You know he got, he has Pitbull racing.
- 1:46:23She'll have to say I'll show the Pitbull.
- 1:46:25You know who? We'll see who's more Pitbull
- 1:46:27after this, right? But.
- 1:46:28He was on here earlier. Yeah.
- 1:46:30Oh no, he's still on. That's why I said yesterday.
- 1:46:33And I know mom's listening to where, you know, you know, the
- 1:46:37when, when like, you know, Mom's short, right?
- 1:46:40So I'm like, if there's anyone I'm not going to make mad, it's
- 1:46:43mom. So, you know, 'cause she's
- 1:46:44short, she'll, she'll fight, you know, it doesn't matter, right?
- 1:46:47So, you know, Tracy kind of has that heightened advantage where
- 1:46:49it's like, I don't know, I'm not going to challenge Tracy if
- 1:46:51other people want to go for it, but I'm not going to.
- 1:46:53So like. Oh gosh.
- 1:46:56I'm not going to do that so if. You're going to do that.
- 1:46:59It's it's front stretch. We'll pay you 500.
- 1:47:03So, so seeing her out. Doing the pits, you're out.
- 1:47:05Yeah, yeah. But seeing her in the car would
- 1:47:08be really fun to watch. It's kind of like I talked
- 1:47:10about, you know, Donnie Ritter, I always heard stories of him
- 1:47:12racing and I got to see he did the Bad Santa Enduro.
- 1:47:15And I'm like, man, he's out there having a blast.
- 1:47:17And so sometimes, right, you just, you know, got to throw the
- 1:47:20hair back, right, and get out there on the track or do
- 1:47:22something if you can. And, and sometimes it's like
- 1:47:24just do something different, get different sceneries.
- 1:47:26So that'll be really exciting to see her out there soon.
- 1:47:33Soon. More to come.
- 1:47:35Soon I think I may have to head out there tonight and start
- 1:47:37working, you know. So anyways, thanks you guys.
- 1:47:42Yep, thank you again. Thank you guys.
- 1:47:44Remind everyone we have been talking about the survivor 180
- 1:47:47Enduro again. Once we're off string, you'll be
- 1:47:50able to go back and watch see all the things that started
- 1:47:52about seven 46747 into the show talking with Chris and Tracy.
- 1:48:00So I'll show the graphic one more time where Survivor 180
- 1:48:04information again gotten go style car minimum.
- 1:48:08But if you have a Hornet with the cage and all that, you're
- 1:48:10welcome to bring that out too. The registration deadline is
- 1:48:147/17 by 5:00 PM. But they do, they will take you
- 1:48:19know, cards they have as well. Just be mindful that if you wait
- 1:48:23until last minute, it might take some time to get you registered
- 1:48:27and entered and all that. So do have patience in that
- 1:48:28case. But the $100 registration does
- 1:48:31not include your PIT pass. Again, you can get that on PITPA
- 1:48:34for $30 where you do all your pit waivers and everything and
- 1:48:37you can get in and 30 minutes before everybody else, or if you
- 1:48:40wait it's $35 at the gate. Each driver on this team must
- 1:48:44race at least 30 minutes during the three hour enduro.
- 1:48:47So the first or the at least 90 minutes of that time must be
- 1:48:51spread evenly between 3 drivers. After that you can divvy it up
- 1:48:54however you want and then 20 plus teams, 2000 to win.
- 1:48:59Anything less than that will be 1000 to win.
- 1:49:01So again, pretty good payout for the Survivor 180 and it's not
- 1:49:05the Oval. It will be a new Paris roll and
- 1:49:09Amish country. So you'll get you'll get the
- 1:49:13horse and buggy your way around the fastest or the hottest
- 1:49:17quarter mile. Excuse me, it's going to be fast
- 1:49:20too on Saturday, but hottest quarter mile in the Midwest.
- 1:49:24So again, we've been talking with Chris, owner of New Paris
- 1:49:27Tracy off screen, but also owner of New Paris.
- 1:49:30And again, appreciate you guys so much for coming on and being
- 1:49:33a part of this. And other than that, Buju,
- 1:49:36anything else good for the group?
- 1:49:38No, Sir. All right, well, I have a ton of
- 1:49:40editing that I get to go do so I'm going to go do that and
- 1:49:43dream of dog Slinger and when I get it tomorrow, Chris, I'll
- 1:49:46send a picture of it and just. We're up to 7.
- 1:49:49Yeah. But other than that for I guess
- 1:49:53on on Saturday, it's going to be turning left and right.
- 1:49:56But Buju, it's almost time to turn left and go fast because.
- 1:50:00We'll see you at the races. See everyone at the races.
