- 0:03Speaker 1: National starting pitcher Miles Michaelis is here with us on
- 0:06Speaker 1: FT Miles, I want to go right to the meeting
- 0:08Speaker 1: you came from, if you don't mind, because we'd never
- 0:11Speaker 1: get a peek inside the curtain of all of the
- 0:13Speaker 1: meetings that occurred spring training. So whether you want to
- 0:15Speaker 1: talk about this one or any others, what are they like,
- 0:18Speaker 1: what's going on during all of these meetings?
- 0:21Speaker 2: This is just more of like kind of a fun meeting,
- 0:24Speaker 2: you know, with a lot of the new coaching staff
- 0:25Speaker 2: and some new players. They're going around and they're they're
- 0:29Speaker 2: doing it a really fun way. So I went yesterday
- 0:32Speaker 2: with house. So they're going the youngest guy and the
- 0:34Speaker 2: oldest guy every every day or every other day, and
- 0:38Speaker 2: you're just like little like player in you like get
- 0:40Speaker 2: to know everybody. So I went yesterday. You know, you
- 0:43Speaker 2: get supposed to feel you know, why, four kids, two dogs,
- 0:46Speaker 2: this and that. You know you're round and you're signing
- 0:49Speaker 2: bonus and you're a little bit of your backstory. And
- 0:51Speaker 2: then they have like an open form. Guys can ask
- 0:54Speaker 2: you questions and just kind of like a little ten to.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Fifteen minute what you got get to know you?
- 1:00Speaker 4: Did you get any question was anyone brave enough to
- 1:03Speaker 4: ask you a question?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, I got a few questions.
- 1:05Speaker 2: One of them was about I've got chickens at home,
- 1:08Speaker 2: and one of them is like the chicken from you
- 1:12Speaker 2: seen the movie Moana. No, but he's like a chicken,
- 1:15Speaker 2: but he's not all there. He's a rooster, but he's
- 1:17Speaker 2: not all there. He kind of walks around like sideways
- 1:19Speaker 2: most of the day and he's just like a little
- 1:22Speaker 2: special needs kind of chicken. But I had some guys
- 1:27Speaker 2: over in my house playing cards the other day and
- 1:29Speaker 2: we're talking about that. So one of the other guys
- 1:32Speaker 2: wanted to know more about the chicken and you know,
- 1:34Speaker 2: some of the Japanese stuff. Everybody wants to know about
- 1:36Speaker 2: the eating the lizard and the fall League kind of stuff.
- 1:39Speaker 2: But it was fun, you know, it's a fun little
- 1:41Speaker 2: you know, I get to have some some interaction with
- 1:43Speaker 2: some of the guys.
- 1:43Speaker 3: That's nice. I like it.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Do you have a good question for the guys, like
- 1:47Speaker 5: have you been able to be like ooh, this is
- 1:50Speaker 5: a question I've heard I want to ask them.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I didn't. I didn't have one. I didn't have one today.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I have one ready.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I'm pitching later today so I didn't have one like Super.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I wasn't Super.
- 2:00Speaker 3: There. I'm getting locked in. I'm in the zone right now.
- 2:03Speaker 4: If you ask your manager what it's like to be
- 2:05Speaker 4: ten years younger than you are.
- 2:07Speaker 3: No, but whenever he gets up there, maybe i'll maybe
- 2:09Speaker 3: you and him.
- 2:10Speaker 4: You could be the old one, he could be the
- 2:11Speaker 4: young one. You guys could do it together.
- 2:15Speaker 3: You know, I'll you know, he's in charge.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I'll have to ask him, what's that dynamic?
- 2:21Speaker 3: Like?
- 2:21Speaker 1: By the way, you know, what's it been like for
- 2:23Speaker 1: but Terra to not only enter a new job, but
- 2:26Speaker 1: I'm sure you know, baseball players like to have a
- 2:29Speaker 1: good time. It sometimes becomes a little bit of like
- 2:31Speaker 1: a frat scenario, and they're probably like, hey, you're quite young, dude.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I don't think it's it's it's gotten there yet. I mean,
- 2:39Speaker 2: it's spring training. Everyone's kind of still. I feel like,
- 2:42Speaker 2: you know, everybody's feeling each other out a little bit.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Everybody's getting to know each other.
- 2:46Speaker 2: But my stance on being a player has always been,
- 2:49Speaker 2: you know, I'm a player.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I'm here to play.
- 2:52Speaker 2: You know, I'll take the ball when he gives it
- 2:53Speaker 2: to me, and I'll I'll give it back when he
- 2:55Speaker 2: asks for it back, no questions asked. You know, he's
- 2:59Speaker 2: the manager in charge. You know, same thing with the
- 3:01Speaker 2: pitching coaches. I'm here to learn, you know. They they've
- 3:04Speaker 2: got a young staff, but they're very knowledgeable. So it's
- 3:07Speaker 2: been fun to kind of learn some things and you know,
- 3:10Speaker 2: talk and and and get some new you know, some
- 3:12Speaker 2: new philosophies and new theories.
- 3:14Speaker 3: That's been been really enjoyed.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Every reason. You have a haircut this year.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah, the barber, the barber that comes in was giving
- 3:20Speaker 2: me a really hard time about how, you know, rough
- 3:23Speaker 2: around the edges, my sideburns.
- 3:25Speaker 3: And stuff we're looking. Uh So I came in the
- 3:27Speaker 3: other day and I said, have at it, man, see
- 3:29Speaker 3: what you got. I thought it was a good haircut.
- 3:31Speaker 4: It is, but I'm used to you with the long
- 3:33Speaker 4: flowing laws.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah I'm still grown it out, but it was it
- 3:36Speaker 2: wasn't really long, but it was just that very unkempt.
- 3:41Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I like to keep it longer, but I still like
- 3:43Speaker 2: to keep my appearances up.
- 3:46Speaker 6: How is it to be in new camp?
- 3:47Speaker 5: You were in you were in Saint Louis for a
- 3:49Speaker 5: long time, and now you go to a new place,
- 3:51Speaker 5: which is right down the road from your house, so
- 3:53Speaker 5: you're commuting, do you make sandwiches for all your teammates
- 3:56Speaker 5: before you leave the house and cut them into quarters?
- 3:59Speaker 6: But how's the how is the new camp? Seriously?
- 4:02Speaker 3: No, no, a new camp is good.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I don't bring sandwiches, but sometimes I would bring eggs
- 4:05Speaker 2: in from my chickens.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I'll bring my own eggs in for breakfast.
- 4:08Speaker 6: How do you know?
- 4:10Speaker 4: For you, how do you know if an egg.
- 4:12Speaker 7: Has a chicken in or is just an egg? The
- 4:15Speaker 7: way you can tell you feel like a.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Flash light up to it, you know, like you shine
- 4:19Speaker 2: a light up to it and if you see like
- 4:22Speaker 2: an embryo or chicken there. But we so we have
- 4:25Speaker 2: the one rooster, but he's not all there, so he
- 4:28Speaker 2: doesn't he doesn't lay with.
- 4:32Speaker 3: The hens, which is kind of nice because every eggs
- 4:37Speaker 3: people want to egg every egg we get, you.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Bring like when your teammates when it has a little baby.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Chickens, that would be yeah, that'd be weird.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I just didn't know how you can tell.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Yeah, but if you wanted to use a flash light,
- 4:49Speaker 2: you shine it through the egg and you can see
- 4:52Speaker 2: a yolk or an embryo whatever.
- 4:54Speaker 4: And then if you find one with the embryo, you
- 4:56Speaker 4: don't you keep the.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I would maybe give it back to the chicken and
- 5:00Speaker 2: see if it would lay on it and hatch into
- 5:03Speaker 2: another chicken.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Then I'd have more chickens.
- 5:04Speaker 2: How many chickens I think the coup we have can
- 5:09Speaker 2: house like twenty five.
- 5:10Speaker 3: We have eighteen.
- 5:13Speaker 4: You only have one rooster.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it wasn't supposed to be a rooster.
- 5:17Speaker 2: We ordered only chickens, and when they sent them to us,
- 5:20Speaker 2: you know, nobody's perfect.
- 5:21Speaker 3: You're you're you know, judging the chickens genders. They're like
- 5:25Speaker 3: in your hand.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I don't know how they do it, but they they
- 5:27Speaker 2: missed one and we end up getting a rooster.
- 5:31Speaker 6: You said it's good. I mean the rooster wants to
- 5:33Speaker 6: be in with the hens.
- 5:34Speaker 5: I mean you said it's good that they're apart, but
- 5:37Speaker 5: you're kind of depriving him of that.
- 5:40Speaker 3: No, no, they're not a part.
- 5:41Speaker 2: They're together, but he's, like I said, he's not all
- 5:45Speaker 2: there mentally, so he doesn't attempt to, you know, lay
- 5:52Speaker 2: with the chickens in the in the biblical sense.
- 5:54Speaker 4: How many chickens? How many eggs does your chickens make
- 5:56Speaker 4: per day? We didn't like it, like fascinated by this.
- 5:59Speaker 2: We get like a dozen eggs a day, a little legs.
- 6:02Speaker 6: No, we eat them.
- 6:03Speaker 3: I got four kids. We're like a dozen eggs every morning.
- 6:05Speaker 3: That's why we got them.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Because all the covid stuff and like all the eggs,
- 6:09Speaker 2: and there was like the egg shortage.
- 6:11Speaker 3: You go to the store, you couldn't find the good eggs.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Then you find out that the good eggs are actually
- 6:15Speaker 3: not good eggs.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Like one of those egg companies was like, oh, organic
- 6:18Speaker 2: this and that, and it turns out that they weren't
- 6:20Speaker 2: as good as they were supposed to be. So my
- 6:22Speaker 2: wife's like, we're getting chickens. We got we got plenty
- 6:25Speaker 2: of land, plenty of space. You really only need like
- 6:29Speaker 2: this much space that we're sitting in right here. You
- 6:31Speaker 2: could have like twenty chickens under this little pop up
- 6:34Speaker 2: tent we got, but we've got they're on like a
- 6:36Speaker 2: probably like a quarter acre little fenced in coop area.
- 6:40Speaker 3: They bit the bugs out of the grass and they.
- 6:43Speaker 2: They if I go fishing and bring home like a
- 6:45Speaker 2: fish carcass, they'll just destroy the fish carcass. They're like
- 6:48Speaker 2: little vultures almost, and it's really good for them.
- 6:51Speaker 3: The omegas. The omegas and the fish are really good
- 6:53Speaker 3: for the for the chickens and the eggs.
- 6:55Speaker 5: I have no transition. I have no transition back to baseball.
- 7:00Speaker 5: So I'm just gonna go for it because.
- 7:03Speaker 6: I love talking.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Whatever gets players like whatever they're into, So that's awesome.
- 7:09Speaker 5: But I'm watching behind you and dudes are throwing bullpens
- 7:12Speaker 5: kind of. They're throwing like into a net with a
- 7:16Speaker 5: pad hanging from it.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they're they're they're getting their arms loose.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Okay, they've they've.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Got like the you know, guys these days, one of
- 7:26Speaker 2: the popular things to do. You've got like a weighted
- 7:28Speaker 2: ball program to help improve like some of your shoulder
- 7:31Speaker 2: strength and you know, like reinforce that delivery a little bit,
- 7:34Speaker 2: work on throwing throwing strikes, build some velocity, build some strength.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I think it's an important thing to do early in spring,
- 7:40Speaker 3: getting ready for a long well.
- 7:44Speaker 2: It's like lifting weights in the gym, right, Like, you're
- 7:46Speaker 2: not just doing push ups and body weight squats.
- 7:48Speaker 3: You're adding some weight to it. So you add light
- 7:51Speaker 3: loads at uh lower intensity, you know, heavier weight.
- 7:56Speaker 2: You can get some more lay back without really having
- 7:58Speaker 2: to to crank it so much much, you know back.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Here, So.
- 8:04Speaker 2: It's uh, you know, the science, the scientists and the
- 8:08Speaker 2: sports people have said that it's good.
- 8:10Speaker 3: So people are doing it.
- 8:12Speaker 6: Do you believe it? You make all your starts.
- 8:14Speaker 5: You're that guy that I'm like, look to what he's
- 8:18Speaker 5: doing while you throw one hundred miles an hour, Like,
- 8:21Speaker 5: do you believe in that stuff?
- 8:24Speaker 2: I believe that throwing a hundred might not be the
- 8:26Speaker 2: best thing for your body. Uh, that's one of those things.
- 8:33Speaker 2: But I I do some weighted ball things.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Yes, just do sids then you can throw hard.
- 8:40Speaker 2: No, that's no, those are you know. I'm I got
- 8:43Speaker 2: the organic chickens in the backyard. The last thing I'm
- 8:45Speaker 2: doing is putting some you know, synthetic steroid stuff into
- 8:50Speaker 2: my body. From just a health standpoint, never twice, you
- 8:54Speaker 2: know fully, once you know you can't get fooled again. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I think I think Bush said that at in one
- 9:01Speaker 2: of the things. I'm not a I'm not a huge
- 9:03Speaker 2: fan of the steroids or or doing them once or
- 9:06Speaker 2: twice or at all.
- 9:07Speaker 7: So when you see a guy like Profar jerks and
- 9:10Speaker 7: Profar get whacked the second time, and now the PA
- 9:14Speaker 7: is saying, well it might not be a real test,
- 9:15Speaker 7: like where are we at here? Well, you know, and
- 9:18Speaker 7: then here's my other question. Where as your player, I've
- 9:20Speaker 7: here for a long time. I played in the steroid air,
- 9:22Speaker 7: so yeah, I know all about this. When fans say,
- 9:24Speaker 7: oh he should you should automatically lose your guaranteed contract,
- 9:29Speaker 7: and you should do this and you should have to
- 9:30Speaker 7: bounce back the league minimum, then.
- 9:32Speaker 2: That opens up so many other doors of things that yeah,
- 9:35Speaker 2: well you know, because you know, all of a sudden,
- 9:37Speaker 2: if you have a team that really doesn't want to
- 9:39Speaker 2: play his contract, would they would they doctor a thing?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Or if they know he was doing something, would they
- 9:43Speaker 2: prescribe him something? You know, like the adderall and the tue.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Oh it's it's one day laps. Let's test him because
- 9:49Speaker 2: he might fail test for adderall and then we can
- 9:50Speaker 2: avoid the contract. It's a really slippery slope. But you'd
- 9:54Speaker 2: never want to believe that anyone or any organization would
- 9:58Speaker 2: do something, you know, so dastard as to you know,
- 10:03Speaker 2: nail a guy on purpose. As far as the thing,
- 10:06Speaker 2: you know, you fail one test. I understand guys want
- 10:09Speaker 2: to be healthy, guys want to perform, but you know,
- 10:11Speaker 2: there's there's more honest ways to do it than doing
- 10:14Speaker 2: something that's clearly outlined as.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Not legal with doing steroids.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And as far as the the PA doing anything to
- 10:24Speaker 2: help them out, I would have to say I'm mostly
- 10:27Speaker 2: against that. I mean, if it was an improper test
- 10:31Speaker 2: or something like that, I mean, that's that's another story.
- 10:34Speaker 2: But I talked to someone the other day who had
- 10:36Speaker 2: failed a test for something like from GNC that's not legal.
- 10:41Speaker 3: They told me they spent like one hundred thousand dollars of.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Their own money, like hiring lawyers, you know, trying to
- 10:47Speaker 2: get to the bottom of this test that was failed.
- 10:51Speaker 3: But no longer is a thing.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And I would just assume if if a guy like
- 10:56Speaker 2: Profar is, you know, innocent, he he's got plenty of
- 11:00Speaker 2: money and time now to defend himself without the need
- 11:06Speaker 2: of the Players Association. I don't think the PA should
- 11:08Speaker 2: be doing should be doing anything, you know, the unless
- 11:13Speaker 2: it was some kind of illegal test, you know they
- 11:16Speaker 2: were they snuck in and you know, pulled him out
- 11:18Speaker 2: of his bed and drug tested him in the middle
- 11:19Speaker 2: of the night, in which case you shouldn't be on steroids.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Anyway. I didn't read the report.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I don't know exactly the substance he failed for this
- 11:27Speaker 2: time out if you guys have that.
- 11:31Speaker 3: But I know the first time it was a legit steroid, right.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Like something ending in like like a legit steroid, not
- 11:37Speaker 2: like a de wormer or something like that.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yeah, So.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I just I just don't see the I don't see
- 11:47Speaker 2: the need to defend that. I you know, I'm all
- 11:50Speaker 2: for defending players wrong for you know, but I just
- 11:54Speaker 2: don't see that. Maybe it was a misprint in the
- 11:56Speaker 2: article I read about it.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Hold up, I can tell you I'm the stack guy here, right,
- 12:01Speaker 1: I'm the researcher here. So, so last time, the positive
- 12:04Speaker 1: test was for a substance called human charonic hCG. It's
- 12:14Speaker 1: a fertility drug often taken after a steroid cycle. It
- 12:18Speaker 1: was the same that's the same exact drug that Manny
- 12:22Speaker 1: Ramirez was suspended for in two thousand and nine. So
- 12:25Speaker 1: that was last time. This time it was exogenis testosterone
- 12:30Speaker 1: and its metabolites. So last time seemed like more of
- 12:33Speaker 1: a masking agent this time. And again I'm not going
- 12:36Speaker 1: to play doctor, but just from article.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Is he is he not eating the gummy bears at
- 12:42Speaker 2: the right time? Of day like that he got pop.
- 12:44Speaker 2: This is one of those things like I don't I
- 12:48Speaker 2: don't understand it. What what I don't understand honestly is
- 12:52Speaker 2: you know again, I'll you know, I understand you want
- 12:54Speaker 2: to live up to your to your contract, right like
- 12:57Speaker 2: I signed a contract to pitch as good as I
- 13:00Speaker 2: can to make it seem but you already signed it,
- 13:04Speaker 2: like he's already in the middle of this contract. Just
- 13:07Speaker 2: just do your best, man, you know, do your best.
- 13:10Speaker 2: You know, get your rest, get under a red light.
- 13:12Speaker 2: There's so many things that you can do now that
- 13:15Speaker 2: aren't illegal, that are even like on the edge of it.
- 13:20Speaker 2: You know, you got your red light, your oxygen tube, saunas,
- 13:23Speaker 2: cold tubs, you know, needles, supplements, creating chick protein, creatine,
- 13:30Speaker 2: gluten meine. You got all the EANs out there. You
- 13:33Speaker 2: don't need any of the osterones, you know.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Uh.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I saw something about the guy. There was a guy
- 13:40Speaker 2: from the Mets. It was eating like thirty eggs a day.
- 13:43Speaker 2: I saw this story on Instagram. I don't know if
- 13:45Speaker 2: you guys got on that.
- 13:46Speaker 5: One Campbell he touched one hundred after you started eating
- 13:50Speaker 5: thirty eggs a day.
- 13:51Speaker 6: You need to he need he needs to.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Any more chickens any more chickens, you know, and and
- 13:57Speaker 2: I think you know, do you want to do the
- 13:59Speaker 2: work and eat thirty the eggs a day are just
- 14:01Speaker 2: like you know, one shot a day.
- 14:02Speaker 3: You know, that's laziness. Laziness, that's but yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 6: That's that.
- 14:06Speaker 5: I appreciate your honesty because people don't understand necessarily like you,
- 14:13Speaker 5: you put a lot of work in to be healthy, correct, Yeah, yeah,
- 14:17Speaker 5: a lot, And and so all the things that you
- 14:20Speaker 5: just mentioned. Does it make you more mad when you
- 14:23Speaker 5: hear something like that and you think out in the game,
- 14:27Speaker 5: there's other guys that are also skirting tests, or do
- 14:31Speaker 5: you think that we got it, like these are the
- 14:33Speaker 5: only Johanna this year Johann Rojas and and Jerks and
- 14:37Speaker 5: Profi are the only two guys that are doing steroids?
- 14:40Speaker 5: Or do you think it's still out there and the
- 14:42Speaker 5: testing is doing as best as best we can in baseball?
- 14:47Speaker 2: You know if I mean it's like your law of averages, right,
- 14:50Speaker 2: I mean, if if you catch one guy, there's probably
- 14:53Speaker 2: at least another handful of guys out there doing it.
- 14:57Speaker 2: You just hope that they're not the guys that are
- 15:00Speaker 2: getting you and you you know, you you hope to
- 15:03Speaker 2: whoever you want to hope for that they're not the
- 15:05Speaker 2: guys that are at the top of the league, because
- 15:07Speaker 2: that kind of would would ruin the the the fantasy
- 15:11Speaker 2: that you know, a guy can hit fifty sixty home runs,
- 15:16Speaker 2: you know, without needing that stuff, right, I mean we
- 15:18Speaker 2: we had that back in the nineties.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Now the guys used to doing it are legitimate. You know,
- 15:23Speaker 3: Aaron Judge is a monster. You know, Show Hay's work
- 15:25Speaker 3: ethic is insane.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Like, I believe those guys are doing it the complete
- 15:29Speaker 2: right way. But you just hope that there's not that
- 15:33Speaker 2: there's not guys falling through the cracks.
- 15:35Speaker 4: A great all, before we let you go, you're pitching today?
- 15:37Speaker 7: Yes, what's your what's your routine like on a start, dame,
- 15:41Speaker 7: because first of all, you're talking to us today, I'm
- 15:42Speaker 7: a starter. Yeah for some pictures, that is a complete
- 15:45Speaker 7: no no.
- 15:45Speaker 2: No, I'm I'm probably So it's like a one o'clock game,
- 15:49Speaker 2: so I you know, by eleven o'clock, I'm I'm starting
- 15:52Speaker 2: to lock it in. You know, I'm dressed, I'm i'm
- 15:55Speaker 2: pham rolling, I'm stretching by by twelve o'clock, I'm out
- 15:59Speaker 2: on this field, you know, running sprints, getting loose, maybe
- 16:04Speaker 2: some weighted ball stuff just to help get get myself
- 16:07Speaker 2: a little bit more loose. And then you know, twelve thirty,
- 16:10Speaker 2: I'm out on the field playing catch, getting ready for
- 16:13Speaker 2: my bullpen before the game, you know, somewhere in between there.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Because it's a day game. I had a big breakfast,
- 16:19Speaker 2: so I really won't eat anything untill after the game.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Maybe some fruit here, like when I go back inside,
- 16:25Speaker 2: you know, a little sugar, a little bit of carbs,
- 16:27Speaker 2: maybe another sip of coffee, Start drinking some water.
- 16:30Speaker 3: It's not going to be too hot. It's still spring
- 16:31Speaker 3: down here.
- 16:32Speaker 2: It's not bad, you know, And go out there and
- 16:34Speaker 2: you know, work on some of the stuff I've been
- 16:36Speaker 2: working on in camp, my bullpens, and you know it,
- 16:39Speaker 2: start getting ready for a season.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Miles last one fore, just so I wanted to get
- 16:43Speaker 1: one WBC question in there. So the games are going
- 16:46Speaker 1: on in Japan right now, And did you hear about Chechias.
- 16:50Speaker 1: So last time around, they adopted the team as like
- 16:53Speaker 1: one of their own. The Japanese fans obviously they're gonna
- 16:56Speaker 1: root for Japan when they're playing but there are so
- 16:57Speaker 1: many games out there in that pool that don't involve Japan,
- 17:00Speaker 1: so apparently they've adopted them. Can you just speak to
- 17:03Speaker 1: how cool the fan environment is there and how they're
- 17:06Speaker 1: just like, yeah, like let's go to the Chechia Australia
- 17:09Speaker 1: game and just give them the time of their life.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's awesome. The fans in Japan for baseball. I mean,
- 17:17Speaker 2: if any of them are watching the show, I'm sure
- 17:19Speaker 2: you guys are international of course, you know, thank you
- 17:22Speaker 2: again all the fans in Tokyo. There's some of the best,
- 17:25Speaker 2: absolute best fans I think of any sport in the
- 17:28Speaker 2: whole wide world.
- 17:30Speaker 3: You know, baseball is like they're one big sport in there.
- 17:32Speaker 2: It's almost like if you rolled like college football and
- 17:35Speaker 2: NASCAR like into one thing. I mean, they're out there
- 17:37Speaker 2: Tokyo Dome, forty thousand sold out with the flags and
- 17:41Speaker 2: the trumpets, and they're into it, and they're fans of
- 17:44Speaker 2: the game and they love it. And for them to
- 17:46Speaker 2: you know, come out and support a country who's probably
- 17:49Speaker 2: not gonna have a ton of fans there, I think
- 17:51Speaker 2: just you know, speaks volumes to how much they love
- 17:53Speaker 2: baseball and you know how great a culture that it
- 17:56Speaker 2: that it is over.
- 17:57Speaker 3: There, Miles Man.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Yeah, well said, thank you for joining us, have fun,
- 18:03Speaker 1: good luck later and we'll talk to you during the season.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Bud awesome, Thank you so much, Thanch for having me
- 18:08Speaker 3: on CJ.
- 18:09Speaker 1: A bra I'm just ready to go with us, CJ.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us.
- 18:12Speaker 7: Man.
- 18:12Speaker 1: How you doing has camp?
- 18:14Speaker 8: Well, know what it's going. Well, we're all good, good, good.
- 18:17Speaker 1: What are you working on.
- 18:20Speaker 8: A little bit of everything?
- 18:22Speaker 9: You know, on the offensive side, kind of stands selective
- 18:24Speaker 9: in the zone. That starts within the cages with the routine,
- 18:27Speaker 9: just kind of shrinking zone everything. Everything's got to be
- 18:30Speaker 9: something you can drive and then on defense, kind of
- 18:33Speaker 9: moving my feet getting in a good position to throw
- 18:35Speaker 9: every time.
- 18:36Speaker 7: Range is the other thing you were work can you
- 18:38Speaker 7: work on you do you work on your range?
- 18:40Speaker 9: But yeah, that starts with the prep step, I'd say,
- 18:43Speaker 9: kind of getting ready as the bold in the air
- 18:46Speaker 9: about to be hit.
- 18:48Speaker 8: This prep step is probably the best thing you talk.
- 18:51Speaker 7: You talk to James, what about shrinking the zone? You
- 18:53Speaker 7: talk to other guys in your team on how they
- 18:55Speaker 7: do it, because Dame's that pretty good eye usually stays
- 18:58Speaker 7: in the zone. Do you talk to other guys here.
- 19:00Speaker 7: I mean, yeah, like you said, James, he does a
- 19:02Speaker 7: really good job of charlling his own. Just got to
- 19:05Speaker 7: be able to kind of take the ones that are
- 19:07Speaker 7: close and if if they call you or ring you
- 19:09Speaker 7: up on one, you can't be mad at yourself.
- 19:10Speaker 9: Kind of stay with the plan. And yeah, we got
- 19:13Speaker 9: the challenge system. That's kind of put that to use.
- 19:17Speaker 5: You gonna you feel you feel like there's a lot
- 19:19Speaker 5: of this in your future this year. You want to
- 19:22Speaker 5: try it out more in spring training or less, or
- 19:25Speaker 5: you you feel like you got a good idea.
- 19:28Speaker 9: Yeah, I haven't tried in spring training yet, but I
- 19:30Speaker 9: probably will, just to kind of see where the top
- 19:32Speaker 9: and bottom is. I think in and out I'm pretty good. Yeah,
- 19:36Speaker 9: just I'll use it whenever whenever I know it's a bum.
- 19:41Speaker 7: How good can you be? I'm sick of here.
- 19:43Speaker 5: So many people go, oh, you know, you know CJ
- 19:46Speaker 5: says he wants to do this, he wants to hit
- 19:48Speaker 5: for a higher Very few times do people talk about
- 19:50Speaker 5: it player like they talk about you where they got power.
- 19:55Speaker 5: Power came into your game here in the last few years.
- 19:58Speaker 5: You got defense, you got it arm like you're a
- 20:00Speaker 5: five pool player. But how good do you think you
- 20:04Speaker 5: can be.
- 20:06Speaker 8: Good as I want to be? You know, in this
- 20:07Speaker 8: guy's a limit.
- 20:08Speaker 9: I got to be able to meet this playing and
- 20:10Speaker 9: kind of stay say where my feet are and just
- 20:13Speaker 9: stay positives as good.
- 20:15Speaker 7: As How good can this Nats team be really good?
- 20:18Speaker 7: He was gonna have natitude? Do they still do the
- 20:20Speaker 7: natitude native? I'm not sure I think so, but but
- 20:23Speaker 7: we're gonna be good. I think we're gonna be good.
- 20:25Speaker 9: As long as we all, like I said, take care
- 20:27Speaker 9: of the task at hand and stay together.
- 20:29Speaker 8: And play as a group, it would be really good.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Hey, CJ, how much did you pay attention to the
- 20:34Speaker 1: off season with trade rumors? At one point your name
- 20:37Speaker 1: was linked to the Giants. We Paltimony has been on
- 20:40Speaker 1: the show multiple times, and I know he's new to
- 20:43Speaker 1: the party, but it sounds like he's very communicative. So
- 20:45Speaker 1: what was that experience like for you?
- 20:48Speaker 9: Yeah, I talked to him on the phone a couple
- 20:50Speaker 9: of times. You know, we had good conversations. Kind of
- 20:52Speaker 9: just told me to just kind of ignore the rumors
- 20:55Speaker 9: and stuff. Whatever happens happens. You know, anything can happen,
- 20:58Speaker 9: but you know, just kind of stay away from the roomless.
- 21:02Speaker 8: You hear them all the time, but you know.
- 21:03Speaker 7: They don't really know how much you appreciate that.
- 21:06Speaker 9: I appreciate a lot. Communication is big, and he does
- 21:09Speaker 9: a good job because he said Mackenzie you know, even
- 21:12Speaker 9: traded with him once. He was calling him say out,
- 21:13Speaker 9: I don't think anything's happening, and then he called him
- 21:16Speaker 9: back said it started to heat up. Just just be
- 21:18Speaker 9: aware there something might go down. And yeah, it's always good.
- 21:20Speaker 9: It's always good to have an idea said anything. What
- 21:24Speaker 9: is blakelo likes cool? Communication is good as well, kind
- 21:28Speaker 9: of gives us everything we need. Does he give yourself
- 21:31Speaker 9: far an advance? Does he give you your schedule.
- 21:33Speaker 8: Day before so we'll know the night before.
- 21:36Speaker 7: Uh, okay, there's something that we're doing, like four four
- 21:41Speaker 7: days it up Just that'd be crazy.
- 21:46Speaker 1: That's a lot of time. That's a lot of the
- 21:48Speaker 1: man to notice. I wanted to double click back on
- 21:51Speaker 1: what you were saying with footwork, So take us through next.
- 21:54Speaker 1: We have a lot of youngsters that listen to the show,
- 21:56Speaker 1: like how can you improve that part? You know, what
- 21:59Speaker 1: specifically do you do drill wise? Who do you speak
- 22:02Speaker 1: to coach wise to help you with stuff like that
- 22:04Speaker 1: when spring training is the perfect time for.
- 22:06Speaker 8: It, Vic smars.
- 22:09Speaker 9: You know, it starts with the early work, you know,
- 22:12Speaker 9: kind of starting with the routine, get the hands, hands working,
- 22:15Speaker 9: and then we moved to the feet work, and so
- 22:17Speaker 9: with the with the footwork, I always want to have
- 22:19Speaker 9: a move and I don't want to get stagnant kind
- 22:21Speaker 9: of uh, get my feet lazy. That's when the hands
- 22:24Speaker 9: have to work so much and bad things happen. So
- 22:26Speaker 9: just keep the feet moving, get myself in a good
- 22:29Speaker 9: position to fill.
- 22:30Speaker 8: The ball and throw it and make the play.
- 22:33Speaker 5: Lot's been made about you guys buying. I don't know
- 22:36Speaker 5: how many Trajet machines you guys bought. Are you a
- 22:39Speaker 5: triject guy? Do you think something this is something that
- 22:42Speaker 5: you use in your routine and is valuable?
- 22:46Speaker 8: I think so.
- 22:47Speaker 9: First time I tried it was here in spring Shin
- 22:49Speaker 9: and I haven't been off and I'm been there every day.
- 22:51Speaker 8: On Trajet the Tragic.
- 22:53Speaker 9: So they'll be big, especially being able to get abs
- 22:56Speaker 9: on maybe guys in the bullpen and stuff, seeing them
- 22:59Speaker 9: before the game.
- 22:59Speaker 8: So I think it'll be bi.
- 23:01Speaker 7: Who's your favorite? Got a face?
- 23:03Speaker 9: I mean, I'll face anybody well, and I'm talking about
- 23:05Speaker 9: off the traject than you're practicing off of every time,
- 23:08Speaker 9: someone different every day.
- 23:09Speaker 8: I don't really double up much.
- 23:12Speaker 7: Do you pickle? Do you pick?
- 23:15Speaker 9: You?
- 23:16Speaker 7: Do you pick?
- 23:17Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 23:17Speaker 9: You definitely want to challenge yourself and the trajects a
- 23:20Speaker 9: little bit harder than the real game, I think.
- 23:21Speaker 7: So you go guys, and you go guys in your division,
- 23:25Speaker 7: Zach Wheeler, Nola.
- 23:26Speaker 8: I faced, I face everybody that's on there, close to it.
- 23:29Speaker 7: You do it before their start.
- 23:31Speaker 9: Yeah, so before you before you guys play forever ear
- 23:34Speaker 9: they be I want to have a couple of beats.
- 23:35Speaker 7: Off and it mixes it up. People don't don't know.
- 23:37Speaker 7: It'll throw all their pitches and simulates and write it.
- 23:40Speaker 7: It mixes up the pitches too. It doesn't just go
- 23:42Speaker 7: fast yells.
- 23:43Speaker 8: Balls strike too, So you have to take decisions.
- 23:46Speaker 7: So I think that's what happens when you punch out
- 23:48Speaker 7: that you get mad if you punch out off the traject.
- 23:50Speaker 8: No, you can't get mad. Hanging back.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Yeah, when did you get introduced to that? To that?
- 23:58Speaker 1: When did you guys get it at that? With the Nats?
- 24:02Speaker 8: I think it was close to spring training when they
- 24:04Speaker 8: had it here and I came out early. I wanted
- 24:06Speaker 8: to see it. I want to get on it. So
- 24:09Speaker 8: being good?
- 24:10Speaker 1: That sounds very cool. That's awful late day. Yeah, again,
- 24:18Speaker 1: you can ruin.
- 24:19Speaker 7: Your confidence before you have to face the guy. You're like, Man,
- 24:21Speaker 7: I can't hit this guy for nothing, and I haven't
- 24:23Speaker 7: even faced him yet.
- 24:25Speaker 8: Wait, Amy like that.
- 24:26Speaker 7: CJJ.
- 24:28Speaker 5: Have you thought about putting any of your teammates in
- 24:30Speaker 5: because I'll tell you a little bit about me. I
- 24:32Speaker 5: had to put my teammates in and I had have
- 24:33Speaker 5: videoed every one of them, and when I finally clipped one.
- 24:37Speaker 7: I would just send it. I was sending video over
- 24:39Speaker 7: to him. Have you done that yet?
- 24:41Speaker 6: Nah?
- 24:42Speaker 8: I gotta do that one. It's a good idea.
- 24:45Speaker 1: The good That's a really good idea. Yeah, exactly.
- 24:47Speaker 3: So.
- 24:48Speaker 1: How you feeling out? I homeworked off you this morning?
- 24:50Speaker 1: Oh really? Yeah? Let me show you.
- 24:51Speaker 8: That's good. I had bod.
- 24:54Speaker 1: When you do. Let us know a show? Show is that?
- 24:56Speaker 1: I'm yourcial?
- 24:57Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 24:57Speaker 8: That was it?
- 24:58Speaker 1: Uh, DJ, Great to talk to you, man, Really appreciate it.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Good luck, have fun the rest of spring training.
- 25:04Speaker 8: Yeah, appreciate it. Appreciate it.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Chef did na see Nunya's second basement for the natch
- 25:09Speaker 1: joining us here on FT and I see him. Thanks
- 25:11Speaker 1: for joining us, man, How you doing as camp?
- 25:14Speaker 10: Thanks for having me? Camp is going? Camp is going good.
- 25:17Speaker 10: You know someone's over too. So there's see real leader,
- 25:21Speaker 10: like you've have already been deep into it.
- 25:25Speaker 7: I mean you got like dad, you guys open what
- 25:26Speaker 7: twenty seven?
- 25:27Speaker 10: I think we're that? Isn't the last game like eighteenth?
- 25:30Speaker 7: I don't know. I think so there's no one they
- 25:32Speaker 7: were lost home now get the great fans.
- 25:34Speaker 8: A yeah, right, wait he's making me.
- 25:39Speaker 1: No, Now I got a check because I'm like, wait.
- 25:41Speaker 10: Yeah, go ahead and technic at a lot of night title.
- 25:43Speaker 1: So yeah, we get. So what we'll do is we're
- 25:46Speaker 1: gonna go over the whole spring training Galder right now, No,
- 25:49Speaker 1: I see him. You got plenty of time. Would you
- 25:51Speaker 1: say the eighteen?
- 25:52Speaker 10: What is it? Old ricking?
- 25:55Speaker 1: The twenty third?
- 25:57Speaker 7: I got an almosteing extra week.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Wait and Baltimore, Yeah that's Baltimore. That's your last game?
- 26:04Speaker 10: Yeah, so that's that's where we're in d C.
- 26:06Speaker 1: That's in d C. You're right.
- 26:07Speaker 10: So oh so I think the last speak training get
- 26:10Speaker 10: is like the eighteenth.
- 26:11Speaker 1: You're right, You're right. Okay, so wait I take it back.
- 26:13Speaker 1: So here's what happens. Yeah, yeah, good, that was good.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So so the nineteenth spring training breakout game, which you're
- 26:20Speaker 1: not playing, you're a big leaguer, and then and then
- 26:23Speaker 1: the team, well the team has won more no actually
- 26:27Speaker 1: against Miami, against the Marlins and Jupiter on the twentieth,
- 26:30Speaker 1: So that's the last one, but maybe you don't have
- 26:32Speaker 1: to play in that one, and you go already to
- 26:34Speaker 1: the DC area, and then you guys have two out
- 26:37Speaker 1: of three days in d C for exhibition games and
- 26:41Speaker 1: then one against Baltimore on the road in their house.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So so yeah, I guess you're not You're not too
- 26:45Speaker 1: far off.
- 26:46Speaker 10: You're well, I play we day, you know, you know
- 26:48Speaker 10: how it is turning?
- 26:50Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 26:51Speaker 7: Man down, Yeah, are just thinking about it.
- 26:56Speaker 10: Already.
- 26:56Speaker 8: Ball.
- 26:58Speaker 10: We're excited, man, what's we're I won't say that.
- 27:02Speaker 7: You know, you're not borders spring training? You sounds like
- 27:04Speaker 7: you're border spring training.
- 27:06Speaker 10: Oh, it's so excited.
- 27:07Speaker 7: It's is long, It is.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Long, is long.
- 27:10Speaker 10: You've been here for a while, so you come early?
- 27:13Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 27:14Speaker 7: Yeah, what's early? Like a day or two early?
- 27:16Speaker 11: I mean I live out here, so I've been living
- 27:18Speaker 11: ju yeah, living, Yeah, I've been here.
- 27:20Speaker 7: You got that big money living in Palm Beach, invest money.
- 27:27Speaker 1: He knows what he's doing. Yeah, so hey to tell
- 27:29Speaker 1: us about this team. Tell us who do you spend
- 27:32Speaker 1: time with? And you know who looks good right now
- 27:35Speaker 1: in cam Who who's kind of like a pick to
- 27:38Speaker 1: click for you that you think is going to have
- 27:40Speaker 1: a big breakout year.
- 27:42Speaker 10: Okay, uh, team, Honestly, we're a young core and we
- 27:49Speaker 10: got a lot of learning to do.
- 27:50Speaker 11: But that's a good thing because we're gonna grow as teammates.
- 27:55Speaker 11: So that's how the team and chemistry are building. I
- 27:58Speaker 11: spent a lot of my time with Woody. I've been
- 28:00Speaker 11: talking with Dayling a lot, Christian Franklin and Brady House
- 28:06Speaker 11: for our conversations are really baseball the things, you know,
- 28:11Speaker 11: and we also events to each other about how things
- 28:13Speaker 11: are going through camp and just being able to like
- 28:17Speaker 11: bounce ideas and emotions off.
- 28:20Speaker 8: Of each other.
- 28:21Speaker 10: That that helps.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Joe the Jim.
- 28:24Speaker 7: Yeah, so you sup at him all the time. It
- 28:26Speaker 7: was a little chiuaha. Get that Nim said, they ain't
- 28:28Speaker 7: got to call me at Chihuahua now. But he didn't
- 28:31Speaker 7: call you. I think crowds called it said he was
- 28:33Speaker 7: the little because James sobody, he said he was you
- 28:35Speaker 7: know when the big dog, you know, the little Chuaha's
- 28:37Speaker 7: trying to bring down the big dog. He said, you
- 28:40Speaker 7: were the numb Now I'm gonna.
- 28:42Speaker 10: Because I'm gonna just we gotta keep it really with
- 28:44Speaker 10: each other.
- 28:44Speaker 11: That's the only way we can't communicate and actually build
- 28:48Speaker 11: trust no matter what it is.
- 28:50Speaker 10: And I will also be the biggest supporter.
- 28:52Speaker 11: So yeah, but we bounce ideas off of each other
- 28:57Speaker 11: back and forth. Even if one of us doesn't agree
- 28:59Speaker 11: with the other, We're gonna still talk.
- 29:02Speaker 7: You gotta like little like brothers, Yeah, like others.
- 29:05Speaker 10: We're brothers, bro.
- 29:06Speaker 11: Now, I feel like that's what you have to be
- 29:08Speaker 11: to be able to trust your teammates and you're going
- 29:12Speaker 11: to war out there with them every day.
- 29:13Speaker 10: You want to know that they have your back no
- 29:15Speaker 10: matter what at the end of the day.
- 29:17Speaker 5: So yeah, your double play partner c J Abrams, how
- 29:21Speaker 5: much does that related onship need to be honest because
- 29:25Speaker 5: it seems like you're you're you're talking about honesty not
- 29:28Speaker 5: just oh wow, yeah roses and rainbows, Like, how honest
- 29:32Speaker 5: do you guys have to be with each other? And
- 29:35Speaker 5: who is more like who gets on the other one
- 29:38Speaker 5: more or less.
- 29:41Speaker 11: I don't think, Yeah, CJY don't even really get on
- 29:43Speaker 11: each other like that. It's more like, we're just gonna
- 29:46Speaker 11: play ball, bro. Just let our abilities play on the
- 29:50Speaker 11: field and do what they do.
- 29:53Speaker 10: It's it's already good there, extright.
- 29:55Speaker 7: If you guys get into a bench clearing brawl, you
- 29:58Speaker 7: and CJ, it was the first. Who's first in the fire?
- 30:01Speaker 7: What you mean like, if the other team charges the mound,
- 30:04Speaker 7: you and CJ are shortened second, which one of y'all
- 30:06Speaker 7: is gonna be first to the farm?
- 30:07Speaker 10: Whoever's closer.
- 30:08Speaker 7: Okay, So you're I'm not gonna You're not gonna be
- 30:11Speaker 7: like c J. No, No, I got I got him
- 30:12Speaker 7: on grapping by a shirt. Nah, he won't be in
- 30:15Speaker 7: there and I'm gonna get right in there with him.
- 30:17Speaker 7: Or I'm gonna be in there and he gonna get
- 30:18Speaker 7: right in there with me.
- 30:21Speaker 10: That's fassin, that's fair. Yeah, he telling them about to.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Right.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You both get after it. Hey, So you mentioned that
- 30:30Speaker 1: it's a young team. There's a lot of learning to do.
- 30:33Speaker 1: What do you think was the biggest thing that you
- 30:35Speaker 1: saw from last year's team that that needs to be fixed,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and that can be fixed.
- 30:42Speaker 10: Honestly, I believe it's intention. Uh.
- 30:45Speaker 11: You know, as big leaguers, you you go through the
- 30:48Speaker 11: minor leagues and you you learn who you need to
- 30:51Speaker 11: become to be a big leaguer. So everything that led
- 30:55Speaker 11: up to this moment in time we've all been so
- 30:58Speaker 11: now it's just about intention and not overworking, I would say,
- 31:03Speaker 11: but doing the work with intent. Like I seen a
- 31:06Speaker 11: video of my dass, I mean of Deon Sanders saying
- 31:08Speaker 11: kids don't practice the right way anymore, Like you gotta
- 31:11Speaker 11: practice to be great, so you don't have to.
- 31:13Speaker 10: It's more like quality over quantity.
- 31:16Speaker 11: Like let's get this work in, let's do it right,
- 31:18Speaker 11: and then let's get ready to go win a ball game.
- 31:22Speaker 5: You said you gotta be who you are, tell people
- 31:25Speaker 5: who you are, because I don't think a lot of
- 31:26Speaker 5: people know what kind of magic you got in that glove.
- 31:29Speaker 5: I don't think a lot of people know a lot
- 31:31Speaker 5: about the seam unias.
- 31:33Speaker 10: Yeah, for sure, you know.
- 31:34Speaker 7: I'm just.
- 31:36Speaker 11: I'm a ballplayer. I'm gonna do whatever I have to
- 31:39Speaker 11: do in the situation to win. And like I told Skip,
- 31:43Speaker 11: and I'll tell my teammates, I want to win every
- 31:46Speaker 11: battle that comes that comes in front of me.
- 31:50Speaker 10: It doesn't really, it doesn't matter what it is.
- 31:52Speaker 11: I want to win. Now in baseball, you know it's
- 31:55Speaker 11: three out of ten. You're not gonna win every single one.
- 31:57Speaker 11: But intention of wanting to win every single one that
- 32:01Speaker 11: that'll give you, that'll give you a lead.
- 32:03Speaker 7: Is that what the new coaching staff and enter the
- 32:05Speaker 7: office paid to all the guys.
- 32:07Speaker 10: Something like that.
- 32:08Speaker 11: You know, they want us to be a little bit
- 32:09Speaker 11: more challenged in practice and work harder in practice and
- 32:13Speaker 11: be challenged so that in the games, you know, it
- 32:16Speaker 11: seems easier.
- 32:18Speaker 10: So that's the new coaches Stot.
- 32:20Speaker 7: Do you do that?
- 32:21Speaker 10: How do you do it?
- 32:21Speaker 7: Or board a spring training already? How do you not challenge?
- 32:25Speaker 3: Ue?
- 32:25Speaker 10: You just do it?
- 32:26Speaker 3: You know?
- 32:27Speaker 7: Is there a drill you guys?
- 32:28Speaker 8: Do they?
- 32:29Speaker 11: That traject is challenging? So a lot of guys hit
- 32:32Speaker 11: the traject and stuff.
- 32:33Speaker 7: So I won't call at the Bony to go because
- 32:36Speaker 7: he played in college. I told him he needs to
- 32:38Speaker 7: go in there at get some bats off skating.
- 32:41Speaker 10: Watch it.
- 32:43Speaker 7: He's in there all the time.
- 32:44Speaker 10: Yeah, he's a watching. I don't think he go get him?
- 32:46Speaker 7: Does he intimidate you all? When he walks.
- 32:49Speaker 10: And it's it's actually pretty crazy.
- 32:51Speaker 11: Always when I was in high school, he was at
- 32:53Speaker 11: a Red Sox workout and he was there with me
- 32:58Speaker 11: and I didn't even remember.
- 32:59Speaker 10: He told me, and I was like, that's crazy.
- 33:01Speaker 11: And my mama was always telling me make sure you're
- 33:03Speaker 11: good to people, no matter who they are.
- 33:04Speaker 10: I be respecting. I told him that. I was like,
- 33:06Speaker 10: I could have been.
- 33:07Speaker 11: A complete you know, yeah, yeah to you, but always
- 33:12Speaker 11: it still would like, be good to people though you
- 33:14Speaker 11: none intimidated.
- 33:15Speaker 10: It's another human being.
- 33:17Speaker 5: Yeah, but gems can be intimidating. Gems can be intimidating
- 33:20Speaker 5: for for younger players, for younger team, the guys who
- 33:23Speaker 5: aren't like they could cut me, they could not. Is
- 33:25Speaker 5: he more or less intimidating than Rizzo was last year?
- 33:30Speaker 7: Uh? Paul Tibani, Yeah, he said him.
- 33:34Speaker 10: Okay, I thought you said Jane, Oh no, no.
- 33:38Speaker 11: I I don't know how to answer that because I
- 33:41Speaker 11: try to not feel intimidated by anybody, you know, baseball
- 33:47Speaker 11: or just playing baseball. So if you do what you
- 33:51Speaker 11: have to do, it shouldn't be intimidated by anybody.
- 33:55Speaker 7: Are you where we have whenever we have players on,
- 33:59Speaker 7: I always pull through a wiki page. Wikipedia page says,
- 34:03Speaker 7: you're born in the Bronx, all right, but you don't
- 34:05Speaker 7: talk like you're from the Bronx.
- 34:07Speaker 10: Nah, so you grew up they born Georgia.
- 34:09Speaker 7: When did you move today? Oh okay, yeah, so we
- 34:12Speaker 7: used New York. So I was born in New York
- 34:14Speaker 7: and moved to Orlando where I was cheap. Right, So
- 34:16Speaker 7: you use New York though when you need New York.
- 34:19Speaker 7: I mean, I don't hate someone in n SL. I'm
- 34:21Speaker 7: from New York, like me too, And then the next guy.
- 34:23Speaker 12: Studland me too. I say my parents are from New York.
- 34:27Speaker 12: I I don't you know. I I go back home,
- 34:32Speaker 12: but I'm really a judge of boy. I grew up
- 34:34Speaker 12: in Gwenech County, but I grew up under the under
- 34:37Speaker 12: the roof of New York. So I have New York
- 34:40Speaker 12: in my blood. But all my friends and everybody is
- 34:43Speaker 12: from Georgia.
- 34:44Speaker 7: As you get older, though, you'll see, are gonna meet
- 34:46Speaker 7: someone from the Bronx.
- 34:47Speaker 10: And they's an't they know how they are?
- 34:50Speaker 12: Because my parents are just like that. So I mean,
- 34:52Speaker 12: I'm not so scaria where they go there. Yeah, I
- 34:55Speaker 12: don't really try to do the link and stuff. Because
- 34:57Speaker 12: that's not me. But are you a bulldog fan?
- 35:00Speaker 1: I don't really do sports.
- 35:01Speaker 7: What do you do?
- 35:02Speaker 10: Video games? It's done. I don't really like watching sports.
- 35:07Speaker 7: I you don't see you don't watch any baseball, any football,
- 35:10Speaker 7: any basketball?
- 35:10Speaker 10: No, I watched highlights.
- 35:13Speaker 7: I want you. I know me for being on Instagram,
- 35:16Speaker 7: for sure. I wasn't that all your What you do
- 35:18Speaker 7: is you're you're a dune scroller.
- 35:20Speaker 10: Low key, I do that, and I'm just some conspiracies
- 35:23Speaker 10: and stuff.
- 35:24Speaker 7: Did have playing on the lute?
- 35:26Speaker 10: I don't know. I wasn't there.
- 35:29Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 35:30Speaker 10: You're just saying we're gonna have his conversations off the chart.
- 35:36Speaker 1: That's good, all right, Well, then I'll try to steer
- 35:38Speaker 1: you back with something I think you can speak to.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Tell me about your relationship with yourself as a switch hitter,
- 35:44Speaker 1: like where do you feel better? How do you balance that?
- 35:47Speaker 1: What's your tip for kids that are trying to be
- 35:49Speaker 1: a switch hitter?
- 35:51Speaker 11: Okay, so this is a This was a touchy topic
- 35:55Speaker 11: because last year I was gonna quit hitting left handed
- 36:00Speaker 11: because it was just it was just killing me. And
- 36:03Speaker 11: I believe that that moment of about to quit and
- 36:08Speaker 11: not quitting was my breakthrough moment because I took everything
- 36:13Speaker 11: that everybody was saying about me, all the information.
- 36:17Speaker 7: It was just overloaded.
- 36:18Speaker 11: Everybody was trying to tell me a certain way to hit,
- 36:20Speaker 11: how to hit, and I kind of had to lose
- 36:23Speaker 11: my mind to gain a better perspective and actually figure
- 36:27Speaker 11: it out.
- 36:27Speaker 10: And it opened the door for me.
- 36:29Speaker 11: I was like, I'm a right handed hitter, and one
- 36:32Speaker 11: of my coaches said, your best coach is yourself.
- 36:34Speaker 10: So I was like, I'm a good right handed hitter.
- 36:37Speaker 11: Why don't I just teach myself how to hit left
- 36:39Speaker 11: handed since I know how to get right hand and
- 36:42Speaker 11: that just that. Oh so, and for the kids that
- 36:47Speaker 11: always switching it, if you want to learn how to
- 36:49Speaker 11: switch it, just whatever's natural to you do that, Do that,
- 36:55Speaker 11: and just keep doing it mastered because once you start
- 36:58Speaker 11: mastering it, like you just automatically get better.
- 37:04Speaker 1: That's good. I like that. I mean, AJ like where
- 37:09Speaker 1: I'm sure you can't came across teammates where you know
- 37:12Speaker 1: the switch hitter wants to quit one side. The splits
- 37:15Speaker 1: are big teams start coming to you, right. I mean,
- 37:18Speaker 1: I'm sure you've come across guys like that.
- 37:20Speaker 7: Absolutely, most of them, most some do quit. So I'm
- 37:23Speaker 7: proud of for him for not quitting, because most of
- 37:26Speaker 7: them do quit and say I'm gonna only hit on
- 37:29Speaker 7: one such.
- 37:29Speaker 11: Yeah, break it was bad, all right, I lost pumpine.
- 37:33Speaker 10: I just remembern't it like this.
- 37:36Speaker 11: I've been doing this for four or five years, and
- 37:38Speaker 11: it's like, ah, I can't touch a fastball.
- 37:42Speaker 10: Oh, so that's not a good thing.
- 37:44Speaker 11: And then I like, but I could touch a fastball
- 37:46Speaker 11: right handed, So why don't I just teach myself the
- 37:50Speaker 11: feels and the mechanics of my right hand to swing.
- 37:52Speaker 1: To my left hand.
- 37:53Speaker 11: This it's just kind of stop trying to prove self
- 37:57Speaker 11: and start being.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Like that's cool. Well, great insight, and I seem hopefully
- 38:05Speaker 1: you had some fun with us here. Really enjoyed it.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Good getting to know you. Thanks for buying, sir. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:10Speaker 1: this was fun. We'll catch you during the season for sir.
- 38:14Speaker 10: Well, and hopefully I can see all love the count.
- 38:16Speaker 7: We talked some.
- 38:17Speaker 1: I'm down. All three of us are into that, so
- 38:23Speaker 1: we're all good for talk. So you can get I'm in.
- 38:29Speaker 1: I'm in for all that. Sign me up. Appreciate you.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Good talking to you, But sir,
