- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by Jinjag.com and fuel by Brastax Coffee right now.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: We are talking about another list.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we are still on the season of lists.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: We are almost out of it, right?
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: A week and a half wins day July 29th training camp.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: So basically a week and a half until we actually get to start talking about football
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: practice, but football nonetheless.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: But right now, NFL.com, they put out
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: the biggest remaining roster issue for every AFC team.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: So of course, the Jaguars are featured here.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: And we're gonna talk about exactly what I think it's Ocada, who I gave a hard time, I think, for his off-season rankings or grades, whatever it was, Mad Ocada, but yeah, we'll get into it.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all being here.

- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: Pick up some new Duval gear.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: From Jacksonville, Jack Wars, the biggest remaining roster issue, according to
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: Ocada is running back.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: With the departure of Travis H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: but the offense might lack flexibility and disguise from play to play.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: ETA and log 250 plus touches and 1,300 plus yards in each of the Jaguar's last three winning seasons.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's an interesting caveat.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: Last three winning seasons.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: His absent could be felt early and often in Duval.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: So what do I think about this?
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: There is a point in here that I actually have kind of talked about.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think that, and it was one of my reasons that I would have liked to have seen the Jaguars be able to keep Travis C.T.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: and he, in my opinion, is one of the more well-rounded overall backs in the NFL just in his ability to be on the field all three downs and for the defense to not know what's coming when he's out there because he,
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: was excellent as they were receiving back last year.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: He was very good in past protection last year.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, with the ball in his hands, he's an explosive play waiting to happen.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why I wanted the Jaguar to keep Travis E. T.N.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: But to say that it's a problem,
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: that you have to kind of put this together in the aggregate and that you lose flexibility or might lack flexibility and disguise from play to play.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that's a little bit of like a step too far.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: The fact of the matter is, based on Tutan, while somewhat unproven in the NFL as a past catcher,
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to say that he's unproven in that regard, again, in the NFL, that's fair.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's fair to say that that's a problem because if you want to be purely objective, you as an analyst don't really know one way or the other.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not fair to assume that it is a problem.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's also not necessarily fair to assume that it's not a problem.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: for a basaltutin in terms of being a receiving back.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: Again, that's just based on what we've seen in the NFL.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: 13 targets, 10 catches, two touchdowns, right?
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: No drops.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the limited sample size, I do think suggests he should be a good back when it comes to receiving out of the backfield.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: You look at what he did in college
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I think overall, you like what you see.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: His final year at Virginia Tech, he got 23 passes on 27 targets.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: The year before that at Virginia Tech, he got 25 passes on 39 targets.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: Overall, he got 73% of his targets out of the backfield.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: He had a 9.4% drop rate in college.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: and was basically a productive back.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think last year he showed that he can do a little bit of past pro.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think that his level of toughness and physicality and his stature, load of the ground, will help him in past pro.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: There's no reason, in my opinion, to assume that basal tuton can't do it as a receiver.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's also fair to maybe ask the question, can he do it at the same level that Travis ETM did last year and over the last couple years?
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to Lekwant Allen,
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okada is basically assuming that Allen is not giving you rundown work, which I don't think is true.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think Lee Quant Allen can be a very good well-rounded back in this league as a rotational player, as a depth player.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that he's somebody who's just a past protector and just a past catcher.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think he can do all three things.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I think personally,
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: based on what I have seen from these players, that basal tune and liquean Allen both have the potential to be three phase backs, running the ball, pass pro, catching the ball out of the backfield.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's my opinion.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to Chris Rodriguez, yeah, I mean, he's never been featured heavily as a receiver out of the backfield in the NFL, but
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think Liam Cohen's talked about, he believes he can do that.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's not that he can't do it, it's just he hasn't been asked to do it, but yeah, you're probably not going to feature him a ton in the past game, but are you going to keep the defense honest, probably a little bit.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: But the main job of a running back is to run the football.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that is where people who are talking about the Jaguar's running back room as an issue are having the biggest laps in critical thinking.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: So Chris Rodriguez, just talking about him as a runner, was straight up excellent last year.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: He was also excellent during his time at Kentucky.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Rodriguez, among backs with at least 75 carries last year was sixth in the NFL in EPA per Rush.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: He was when it comes to success rate.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was among backs again with at least 75 carries.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: He was ninth.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to first down percentage, he was six.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: And when it comes to average box defenders, which is defenders that are in the box, close to the line of scrimmage, he was second in the NFL.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: Average Box Defender's last year for Chris Rodriguez on carries was 7.8 to behind only Derek Henry, who was at 7.84.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: Opposing offenses knew when Chris Rodriguez was on the field for the Washington Commanders last year that they were running the football, and it did not matter.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: He was still effective.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: He has good vision, he has good pace, short area explosiveness.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: He is a tough physical runner who will break tackles behind the line and at the second level and just do a good job as a running back.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: Then you talk about Basial Tutant, right?
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Another player who when it comes to success, right?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: And this is all according to Sumer Sports, I think if you look at ESPN, their success rates are actually rated even higher.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: Basial two among backs with at least 75 carries was seventh in the NFL in success rate last year.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: which just means the percentage of rushing attempts that constitute a successful down for the offense.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: They keep you on schedule, they get you a first down, you score, touchdown, et cetera, whatever it may be.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that basal to and just based on the numbers again, is a strong candidate to
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: play well, given more of a snap percentage, given more of a rushing share in this backfield.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: So you talk about two players in the top 10 when it comes to success rate last year.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Basel Tutan, he showed some flashes last year, but I think he can show a lot more this year when it comes to his creativity and quickness and eluciveness.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: I did like the physicality he showed, despite being a, you know, relatively undersized back.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: Now again, talking about running the football, where is Travis ETN when it comes to?
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: success rate.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason success rate is so important.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: It helps you determine how effective consistently a back will be.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: How often can you stay on track as an offense when you're running the ball with this player?
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Travis ETN, when it came to success rate last year,
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: Again, Chris Rodriguez and Basel Tutton were both top 10 at worst, according to Summersports, at best, four and five in the NFL according to ESPN, stats and analysis.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't see the problem with these backs.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Do I think that there is one back who is as proven as Travis ETN as a three-down player?
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: Do I think it's fair to say, Travis ETN really wasn't that good last year as a running back in this offense, just as a runner of the football.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's absolutely fair.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I see a group that has a lot of talent.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: that is going to be able to run between the tackles more effectively.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think you give basult to more opportunities in the past game and good things will come.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think you give Lee Kuan Allen more opportunities as a Russia and past protector and past catcher.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: Good things will come.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Chris Rodriguez is going to bring a level of physicality and toughness and just consistency between the tackles.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: that is gonna really help.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: The Jacksonville Jaguars in 2026.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: I am not a believer that running back is a roster issue for the Jaguars.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: And they do have depth beyond those three, right?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like DJ Dallas is a proven special teamer and veteran in this league.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: You can say the same thing about Amir Abdullah and Jamari Taylor, the Jaguars Undrafted Free Agent who I thought could have been drafted early to mid-day three,
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: has looked really strong too.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm really excited to see this running back room.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not feeling like it's a problem.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not feeling like it's a roster issue.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think, on the outside, looking in as an analyst, when you're looking at every team, and you don't have a really,
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: rich knowledge of what you're talking about because you're just trying to talk about every single team.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's easy to point out running back and say, well, they just don't have as much proven talent at the running back position.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: Does that mean that it's an issue?
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it is at all.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: I would honestly, if I had to say the biggest roster issue,
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you could say backup quarterback, which I think is an issue that the Jaguars would try to solve in a different way if that occasion arises.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think starting interior offensive line outside of Ezra Cleveland is pretty replaceable, but you have their replacements in the building already, I think.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think you could say, edge depth, but I like Danny Strigo, B.J.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: Green, Wesley Williams.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm confident in Ventral Miller.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously for a look and I love the safety group.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: I love the cornerback group.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that there is a clear and obvious starting group that is an issue on this roster.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know what you think in the comment section below.
