- 0:50time for our weekly catch ups where you get to
- 0:52hear what's been going on in my life so you get
- 0:54to know me a little bit better. As you're listening
- 0:56to this podcast, I will just be getting back
- 0:58from Iceland. It will have been a 8 or 9 day
- 1:02long trip with my younger brother, and I'm sure
- 1:06it has been amazing. Can't wait to update y 'all
- 1:08on that next. What else will have been going
- 1:12on? Honestly, that's it. That's all I can think
- 1:14will be happening, so nothing too crazy. Okay,
- 1:18so what's in? Let's think about this. Probably
- 1:21rest if I had to guess what is in is rest I will
- 1:25be ready to get back to work and to chill out
- 1:27and what is out is Not my AC anymore. That's
- 1:33for sure. My AC has been back and It is glorious.
- 1:37Very thankful for that. Um, oh, you know what's
- 1:40really out and I'm so thankful is love Island
- 1:44y 'all I am so thankful to not be watching Love
- 1:49Island anymore. This last season was trash. I
- 1:51know we're like three weeks out from when it
- 1:53ended, but please I just did not enjoy it. It
- 1:57felt like a chore to watch. It wasn't a vibe.
- 1:59I did not really love everyone on the cast. I
- 2:02mean I love my little Amaya Papaya girl and we're
- 2:05all keeping up with like the aftermath drama.
- 2:08But yeah, I'm just not loving it. Also, I just
- 2:12don't know if I'll watch it again in the future.
- 2:14That's all there is no also. That's all I have
- 2:16to say on that. I'm thankful that it's over I
- 2:18think I'm thankful that it's out and I don't
- 2:21have to Let it consume my life and make sure
- 2:25no one gives me any spoilers or talk to clients
- 2:27about it anymore. I'm really happy about that
- 2:30Okay. Well anyways, let's dive into today's episode
- 2:38Y 'all, my whole life, I've been taught that
- 2:40God loves us and that's why he sent his son to
- 2:43die on the cross for us, that he loves me and
- 2:45cares for me. But that can become such a passing
- 2:48thought for most of us that grow up in church
- 2:51or just religious people in general. For those
- 2:55of us that have mental health disorders or childhood
- 2:58trauma, it's even harder to comprehend because
- 3:00if God loves you, why do you have anxiety? If
- 3:03God cares for you, why do you struggle with depression?
- 3:05If God even likes you, why don't you feel like
- 3:08he does? Did you know that 50 % of the world's
- 3:12population will struggle with mental health at
- 3:14some point in their life? That 1 out of 7 adolescents
- 3:17will have a mental health disorder? And even
- 3:20though there is an exact number, women are more
- 3:23likely to experience a mental health condition.
- 3:25We could jump down the rabbit hole of how sin
- 3:28came into the world and therefore we have mental
- 3:30health disorders in crappy adults that cause
- 3:32trauma, but that's not what we're here to talk
- 3:35about. I'm here to remind you, better yet, I'm
- 3:38here to convince you that not only does God love
- 3:41you, but he also likes you. Like a lot. Let's
- 3:44set a foundation and build from there. What is
- 3:46love? Well, Webster's Dictionary says it's a
- 3:50strong affection for another arising out of kinship
- 3:53or personal ties like maternal love for a child.
- 3:57Now, there are four different words for love
- 3:59in the Greek language, but the most common one
- 4:01in the New Testament is agape. This refers to
- 4:04selfless, unconditional love, often associated
- 4:07with divine love or charity. It's a love that
- 4:10extends to everyone, including those who may
- 4:13be difficult to love. Reading these definitions
- 4:16reminds me of what I would say to my friends
- 4:18that I love everyone, but I don't like everyone.
- 4:22That meaning that I don't wish ill on someone,
- 4:24I don't hate them, we might have personal ties,
- 4:27or I might carry some sympathetic feeling for
- 4:29them, so I love them. but because I don't really
- 4:33have the option to hate them. It would do me
- 4:35no good to hate them, but I definitely have the
- 4:38option to not like them and I will take that
- 4:40option most days. Okay, so let's look at the
- 4:44word like. Webster defines like as to feel attraction
- 4:48towards or take pleasure in, so to enjoy. B is
- 4:53to feel towards or regard. And C, to wish to
- 4:57have, aka to want. And the Greek word for like
- 5:00is phileo. This is a love, a friendship, a deep
- 5:04affection, and bond between people who are equals.
- 5:07It implies loyalty, virtue, and familiarity.
- 5:11For example, the love between close friends or
- 5:13strong bond within a community. The word love
- 5:16is perceived more as a noun and the word like
- 5:19is looked at more often as a verb, so an action
- 5:23word. We choose what we like, it's an action.
- 5:26We are made after God's image, so he must choose
- 5:30as well, right? So, does God like us? Does he
- 5:34like you? Does he like me? Does he actively choose
- 5:37again and again and again every day to like you?
- 5:41Does he even think about you? Or is he more like
- 5:44that parent or friend that claims to love you
- 5:46but treats you as an inconvenience? Better yet,
- 5:49how could he like you when you don't like you?
- 5:52So let's circle back to his love. God's love
- 5:55is unconditional. We as humans often compare
- 5:58it to a healthy parents love, so there are no
- 6:01conditions you must meet to keep it. You can't
- 6:03say the wrong thing, you can't look a certain
- 6:05way, you can't have it one day and lose it the
- 6:07next. If you're His, then you're His and that's
- 6:10that. But like is a different matter. Our parents
- 6:13don't always like us, our best friends don't
- 6:15always like us, and we, you and me, we don't
- 6:19always like us. But God isn't like that. His
- 6:22love and His like go hand in hand. He doesn't
- 6:25like us one day, and then the next he hears us
- 6:27say something and decides he doesn't like us.
- 6:30He likes us no matter what, just like he loves
- 6:33us. Okay, so we're going to look at a few verses
- 6:36so I can make an argument that he really likes
- 6:38you. I love the NIV translation lately, so that's
- 6:42what I'm going to read out of. Matthew 6 verse
- 6:4526 says, yet your Father in heaven feeds them.
- 6:57Are you not more important than the birds? I
- 7:25appointed you as a prophet to the nations. I'm
- 7:28sorry, but do you think he only knew Jeremiah
- 7:30while he was forming him and not you as well?
- 7:34Nahum 1 -7 says, in the ESV version by the way,
- 7:38the Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of
- 7:40trouble. He knows those who take refuge in him.
- 7:43Knows. He knows you. If you're taking refuge
- 7:46in him, he knows you. But before you take refuge
- 7:49in him, He knows you. He formed your inner being
- 7:52in Jeremiah. He made you fearfully and wonderfully
- 7:55made in Psalms. Why would he not know you before
- 7:59you even take refuge in him? Sorry, let me keep
- 8:02going. Matthew 10, 29 -31 says, Are not two sparrows
- 8:07sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall
- 8:10to the ground apart from your father. But even
- 8:12the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear
- 8:15not. Therefore, you are of more value than many
- 8:18sparrows. In Zephaniah 3 .17, in the NLT version,
- 8:23it says, He is a mighty Savior. He will take
- 8:25delight in you with gladness. With His love He
- 8:28will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over
- 8:31you with joyful songs. In Genesis 1 .31, it says,
- 8:36God saw what He made and it was good. Point blank
- 8:39period. So yeah, does God like you? Based on
- 8:43these verses, I'd say yes. Does He care for you?
- 8:46Also, yes. It might not seem like much, but here's
- 8:51your reminder that he cares about you and the
- 8:53little things about you. He likes your eyes.
- 8:55He likes your nose, even when it's in someone
- 8:58else's business. He likes your hair color, whatever
- 9:01color it might be right now. He likes your laugh.
- 9:04He likes your voice, whether you're singing Pink
- 9:06Pony Club or Oceans. He likes you. Really, if
- 9:11he cares about the birds of the air, the freaking
- 9:14birds of the air, Those little tiny rats with
- 9:18wings that fly about, sorry to those who like
- 9:20birds. How much more does he care for you? Because
- 9:23I personally hate birds, they creep me out, so
- 9:26I'm glad he likes them, because that means he
- 9:28likes me a whole lot more. Liking you is an act
- 9:32of choice he makes every day. He wants you, has
- 9:35regard for you, and he enjoys you. I think we
- 9:38often don't like ourselves, so we assume God
- 9:41must not like us and is forced to love us out
- 9:43of obligation, but that's not the case. You're
- 9:46not an obligation. You might feel that way sometimes,
- 9:49but that's not reality and it's not from him.
- 9:53I'm not sure how you like to process information
- 9:55or remind yourself of truths, but we're going
- 9:58to come up with an acrostic. So, for the word
- 10:01like, let's start with L. L. We will use the
- 10:05word love, plain and simple, because he loves
- 10:08you. Um, I will be immaculate. Duh. It's how
- 10:14he sees you. okay K is knowing he knows you E
- 10:21is easy let's use the word enjoys because he
- 10:25enjoys you and since we probably need to add
- 10:28an S for the active here and now then we have
- 10:31supports smiles and satisfied because he does
- 10:35support us I'm sure he looks down and smiles
- 10:38on us even when we don't smile at ourselves and
- 10:41he is very satisfied with us because, just like
- 10:44Genesis 1 .31 said, what he made was good. And
- 10:48girl, you might not think so, but he knows so.
- 10:53Your experience with love will shape your experience
- 10:55on what it means for someone to like you. Whether
- 10:58you had a bad parent, adult figure, friend, or
- 11:01boyfriend mistreat you, but your view of yourself
- 11:04will also determine your opinion on what it means
- 11:07for someone to like you. Some of us feel like
- 11:10we're difficult to love, so being liked too?
- 11:13Oh, forget about it. Not possible. Not gonna
- 11:16happen. Maybe you were used by friends a lot
- 11:19for what you had, social status or whatever,
- 11:22so you feel like you being liked is determined
- 11:24by what worth people place on you. You might
- 11:27feel like you have to show up a certain way at
- 11:29church for God to like you, dress nice, have
- 11:31your makeup and hair done, ready to serve or
- 11:34just show up in general, but that's not the truth.
- 11:37He will like you whether you show up in a new
- 11:39dress or sweatpants or stay home and spend one
- 11:42-on -one time with him, because he loves you.
- 11:44Therefore, he likes you. I had just started dating
- 11:49someone and was maybe a little over a month in
- 11:52when I got a really bad cold. This guy insisted
- 11:55on coming over to see me. I think he might have
- 11:57met my parents only once and I was around 19,
- 12:02so I was still living at home. I warned my dad
- 12:05that this guy was coming over while I laid on
- 12:07the couch with gross snotty tissues all around
- 12:09me and lots of blankets. My dad said, you should
- 12:13go put some makeup on before he gets here, and
- 12:15I said no. He knows I'm sick, he insisted on
- 12:19coming over to see me so he can see me like this,
- 12:22and if he doesn't like it then that's his problem,
- 12:25not mine. Well, after that, we kept dating for
- 12:29about two more years. Seeing me sick? Makeup
- 12:32list with snotty tissues didn't make him run
- 12:34away. In fact, he was around more than ever after
- 12:37that day Why because he liked me y 'all have
- 12:40heard the dating phrase if he wanted to he would
- 12:43well God wants to so he does You can't be too
- 12:48much ask too much not be enough for him to be
- 12:52like, oh this girl Just isn't doing it for me.
- 12:55She's asking too much. Let me take a break from
- 12:57her No, that's not God and that's not how he
- 13:00shows up or who he is. He likes it when you're
- 13:04a lot. He likes it when you're quiet and chill.
- 13:07He likes it when you're laughing too loud or
- 13:09crying out your emotions. He likes it when you
- 13:12ask big things of him. You can't gross him out
- 13:15or shame him away. You can't be too needy or
- 13:18overwhelm him because he likes you, cares about
- 13:21you, and the life you're living here on this
- 13:24earth. All I want for you is to leave this combo
- 13:27knowing you are not just loved, but liked by
- 13:30your Heavenly Father. The choices you make or
- 13:33have made, who you were or are, what others speak
- 13:37into you or how you feel about yourself, does
- 13:39not affect whether he likes you yesterday, today,
- 13:43or tomorrow. He likes you. Like a lot. And if
- 13:47you don't believe me, maybe you should go ask
- 13:50him to show you. Father, I ask that she knows
- 13:53that she is not just loved. Actually, I ask that
- 13:56she doesn't just assume she is loved. by it being
- 13:59repeated around her over and over and over, but
- 14:02that she knows in her heart and through her body
- 14:05that she is liked by you. That you like her,
- 14:09Lord. That you see her and you smile down upon
- 14:12her. You see her and you enjoy her. You see her
- 14:15singing in the car. You see her emotional outburst.
- 14:19You hear her cuss. You hear her rebuke herself
- 14:22on cussing, whatever it is, Lord. I hope she
- 14:26knows that you enjoy her. that you choose to
- 14:28like her every day, that it's not out of obligation,
- 14:31that it's not just because you loved her and
- 14:33your son died for her, but that you actively
- 14:35like her. If she doesn't feel liked, have her
- 14:39find a way to ask you to show you that you like
- 14:42her. Give her that reminder that even though
- 14:45she might not like herself or feel like others
- 14:47don't like her, that you constantly like her
- 14:50every single day. Whatever the devil is telling
- 14:53her, whatever doubts or fears or insecurities
- 14:55come in, whatever from her past is haunting her
- 14:58or her present, that she would remember that
- 15:02you like her and you choose to like her. That
- 15:05she's not just loved, but she is liked. Like
- 15:09a lot. And in Jesus' name, amen. Thank you so
- 15:23much for listening to the Living Freed Podcast.
