- 0:00Speaker: What's up everyone?
- 0:01Speaker: Trevor Matthews here.
- 0:02Speaker: Super glad that you're here.
- 0:03Speaker: Listening again.
- 0:05Speaker: We're diving deep into helping
- 0:08Speaker: technicians and contractors out
- 0:10Speaker: there.
- 0:11Speaker: Some of the training that's
- 0:12Speaker: happening right now is really
- 0:14Speaker: making a massive difference in
- 0:16Speaker: businesses and technicians
- 0:18Speaker: lives.
- 0:19Speaker: Reducing callbacks, really
- 0:22Speaker: decreasing troubleshooting
- 0:23Speaker: times.
- 0:24Speaker: And the biggest thing is really
- 0:26Speaker: helping increase confidence and
- 0:28Speaker: confidence.
- 0:29Speaker: That is what I'm seeing on all
- 0:31Speaker: these contractor trainings I'm
- 0:32Speaker: doing technicians coming into
- 0:34Speaker: the supermarket academy, coming
- 0:35Speaker: into the CO2 trainings and just
- 0:38Speaker: leveling up.
- 0:39Speaker: And it's all them.
- 0:40Speaker: It's not me, it's them.
- 0:41Speaker: It's me helping guide them and
- 0:44Speaker: showing them what I really wish
- 0:48Speaker: I had when I was two, three,
- 0:50Speaker: four, five years in the
- 0:52Speaker: industry.
- 0:53Speaker: There's a lot to know in supermarket refrigeration.
- 0:56Speaker: There is so much to know and you do not learn this overnight, but
- 1:01Speaker: you can learn it a lot faster when you have the right coaches,
- 1:05Speaker: the right mentors, the right training, the right attitude.
- 1:08Speaker: And that's really what it is.
- 1:11Speaker: The technicians that come into the program in contractor
- 1:15Speaker: trainings are, I see by the end, of course, I see a difference in
- 1:20Speaker: so many technicians.
- 1:21Speaker: They're like, oh, there's an
- 1:22Speaker: online training or or it's an
- 1:24Speaker: online course, like I want more
- 1:26Speaker: hands on.
- 1:27Speaker: But when they get into the course and I walk through some
- 1:30Speaker: of the assignments that they have to do by getting pictures
- 1:33Speaker: and trend graphs and pulling parameters and going to look at
- 1:37Speaker: different levels, taking pressures of off the system.
- 1:40Speaker: They're just like, Holy smokes, I've never done this before.
- 1:44Speaker: Or walking through the things
- 1:46Speaker: that I'm going to talk about
- 1:47Speaker: today.
- 1:47Speaker: The key things if you want to be
- 1:49Speaker: an expert at or become an expert
- 1:52Speaker: at refrigeration supermarket
- 1:54Speaker: refrigeration, there are some
- 1:55Speaker: things that you need to
- 1:55Speaker: understand you got to practice
- 1:57Speaker: at.
- 1:58Speaker: And this is why I'm so good at really leveling people up is
- 2:02Speaker: because I've got a process.
- 2:03Speaker: When I take on a course and I, a
- 2:06Speaker: contractor hires me and I have
- 2:07Speaker: fifteen or twenty technicians in
- 2:09Speaker: a program, and when I walk
- 2:11Speaker: through them, the step by steps
- 2:12Speaker: on what I like to see, it is
- 2:14Speaker: such a I see such a change in
- 2:17Speaker: some of these technicians by the
- 2:18Speaker: end of it, on their approach and
- 2:22Speaker: on the way they tackle a service
- 2:24Speaker: calls versus when they start,
- 2:25Speaker: and really they pull out the
- 2:29Speaker: different things that I'm
- 2:29Speaker: teaching.
- 2:30Speaker: So what is really great?
- 2:32Speaker: Those technicians that get it,
- 2:33Speaker: they use their skills, but they
- 2:35Speaker: take different pieces of these
- 2:36Speaker: programs that I build and add to
- 2:39Speaker: their arsenal of
- 2:40Speaker: troubleshooting, of service, of
- 2:43Speaker: startup.
- 2:43Speaker: And that's just what's really
- 2:45Speaker: the biggest game changer is
- 2:46Speaker: these technicians wanting to
- 2:48Speaker: level up.
- 2:49Speaker: I know I'm in a course right now.
- 2:51Speaker: I have about fifteen, sixteen technicians in.
- 2:54Speaker: It's an eight week CO2 course
- 2:56Speaker: and the the technicians are
- 2:59Speaker: going out and getting the
- 3:01Speaker: pictures.
- 3:02Speaker: They're getting the pads, they're getting the
- 3:04Speaker: refrigeration schedules, they're getting the I o schedules.
- 3:07Speaker: They're getting the wiring diagram.
- 3:08Speaker: So if that's something that you
- 3:09Speaker: do, even if you never taken a
- 3:11Speaker: program with me, start doing
- 3:13Speaker: that.
- 3:13Speaker: Start looking at these pads,
- 3:15Speaker: matching them up to the wiring
- 3:16Speaker: diagram, matching them up to the
- 3:18Speaker: I o list, and then looking at
- 3:20Speaker: the refrigeration schedule,
- 3:21Speaker: because that's how you set it
- 3:22Speaker: all up.
- 3:23Speaker: That's how you set it all up.
- 3:25Speaker: And inside the program I see these technicians, you know,
- 3:29Speaker: they're they're messaging me.
- 3:30Speaker: They're coming into the community, the refrigeration
- 3:32Speaker: mentor community, and just starting to ask more questions.
- 3:36Speaker: Getting into the demos and
- 3:38Speaker: actually going in and and taking
- 3:40Speaker: pictures of the trend graphs and
- 3:42Speaker: looking at me and Andrew were
- 3:43Speaker: on, uh, Andrew Freiberg, part of
- 3:46Speaker: the refrigeration mentor
- 3:47Speaker: community, part of refrigeration
- 3:48Speaker: mentor team.
- 3:49Speaker: He we were doing some, uh, fine tuning of a rack, a few racks
- 3:53Speaker: there last week and just taking because we're still learning.
- 3:57Speaker: Honestly, I've been doing CO2 refrigeration since training it
- 4:01Speaker: since twenty fifteen.
- 4:02Speaker: Fine tuning it, servicing, starting up different systems
- 4:06Speaker: with contractors, manufacturers.
- 4:08Speaker: And I'm still learning.
- 4:10Speaker: So we're last week we were.
- 4:11Speaker: Fine tuning and Andrew was at a
- 4:12Speaker: store and he was like, dude
- 4:14Speaker: Trevor man, this this does not
- 4:15Speaker: look right.
- 4:16Speaker: It doesn't look right to me.
- 4:18Speaker: The the gas cooler pressure is all over the place.
- 4:22Speaker: And so when we looked at it, it's like running at eighty,
- 4:25Speaker: eighty degrees of Fahrenheit.
- 4:27Speaker: You know what I mean?
- 4:27Speaker: Like thirty degrees Celsius.
- 4:29Speaker: Like way too high.
- 4:31Speaker: And, uh, and it's cold out.
- 4:33Speaker: It's like in California, it's like sixty degrees Fahrenheit.
- 4:35Speaker: It's like like what's going on.
- 4:37Speaker: So we spend some time looking at
- 4:38Speaker: it, looking at all the
- 4:39Speaker: parameters, looking at all the
- 4:40Speaker: set points, getting into the
- 4:41Speaker: flex combiners and just kind of
- 4:43Speaker: looking at all these different
- 4:44Speaker: trend graphs.
- 4:45Speaker: And then what we noticed that
- 4:46Speaker: there was just a bunch of
- 4:48Speaker: parameters just not set up
- 4:49Speaker: properly.
- 4:50Speaker: Not maybe not because the the person who set it up didn't know
- 4:56Speaker: I we don't know.
- 4:57Speaker: Right.
- 4:57Speaker: But what we did take a look at is that we were looking at the
- 5:01Speaker: parameters and actually looking through the combiner and
- 5:05Speaker: looking, is it supposed to be a temperature or is it supposed to
- 5:08Speaker: be a delta temperature?
- 5:09Speaker: Is it supposed to be a
- 5:11Speaker: transducer from the outdoor air
- 5:14Speaker: temperature?
- 5:14Speaker: Or is it supposed to be the drop leg sensor?
- 5:16Speaker: And then we look through all these different graphs.
- 5:18Speaker: We looked at the ramping speed of the fans, and then we looked
- 5:22Speaker: coming back into where's the wiring and wiring diagrams?
- 5:26Speaker: Where's the refrigeration schedule?
- 5:28Speaker: What is that supposed to be set for.
- 5:31Speaker: And then it came back to there
- 5:33Speaker: was multiple, uh, multiple
- 5:36Speaker: parameters that weren't set up
- 5:38Speaker: correctly.
- 5:39Speaker: And the biggest one that we found was that for the outdoor
- 5:43Speaker: air temperature, someone select the drop leg temperature so that
- 5:48Speaker: that was the big problem there.
- 5:49Speaker: Like, and that that could have happened.
- 5:51Speaker: You could have fat fingered that one.
- 5:52Speaker: You know what I mean?
- 5:53Speaker: Like, that can happen, uh, by just picking because it's a gas
- 5:56Speaker: cooler air in and gas cooler.
- 6:00Speaker: So it depends on who's naming these as well.
- 6:02Speaker: This is there's no standard
- 6:03Speaker: naming, even though in the E3
- 6:05Speaker: there's more.
- 6:06Speaker: You get a lot more letters in there.
- 6:09Speaker: It all depends who's writing in that wording.
- 6:12Speaker: And so there's no standards.
- 6:14Speaker: And that's one of the things that I'm going to start working
- 6:16Speaker: on is building that out there.
- 6:18Speaker: What like what you should really put in there.
- 6:20Speaker: So you really understand that.
- 6:22Speaker: And it all depends on the brand of controller.
- 6:24Speaker: Microthermal is going to be different than Danfoss.
- 6:26Speaker: It's going to be different than E3 and so on and so forth.
- 6:29Speaker: But that big part.
- 6:31Speaker: And just like in that trend
- 6:32Speaker: graph, from now going back to
- 6:34Speaker: this CO2 training I'm doing with
- 6:36Speaker: this contractor, the guys are
- 6:37Speaker: coming back with these trend
- 6:39Speaker: graphs and they're looking and
- 6:40Speaker: they're like, Holy smokes, do
- 6:40Speaker: you see?
- 6:41Speaker: See this where our flash tank is going from four eighty all the
- 6:45Speaker: way up to five eighty.
- 6:48Speaker: Okay.
- 6:48Speaker: So it's going from you know,
- 6:50Speaker: it's almost like three or four
- 6:52Speaker: bar.
- 6:53Speaker: Um, no. So sorry.
- 6:54Speaker: So probably like seven bar range up and down.
- 6:59Speaker: Okay.
- 6:59Speaker: So it's like almost one hundred eighty to one hundred psi up and
- 7:02Speaker: down flash tank.
- 7:03Speaker: And so they're looking at this
- 7:04Speaker: and like what is what is causing
- 7:06Speaker: this now is this the high
- 7:07Speaker: pressure valve.
- 7:09Speaker: Is it the flash gas bypass valve.
- 7:11Speaker: Is it the eaves like on the case.
- 7:14Speaker: Case.
- 7:14Speaker: Uh, is it the gas cooler fans.
- 7:17Speaker: And this is what this is better thinking than just going in.
- 7:21Speaker: Oh, well, it must be the gas cooler.
- 7:22Speaker: Or it must be this.
- 7:23Speaker: No. When we're looking at a CO2
- 7:25Speaker: system, it's a full there's a
- 7:27Speaker: full dynamics.
- 7:29Speaker: And now they're starting to think a little bit more.
- 7:31Speaker: Well, let's look at the opening percentage of this valve.
- 7:33Speaker: Let's look at the opening percentages.
- 7:35Speaker: Valve valve.
- 7:36Speaker: Why is this valve stopping right here.
- 7:38Speaker: What's limiting it to ninety percent.
- 7:42Speaker: And why do we see it only hits
- 7:44Speaker: there and it doesn't go any
- 7:45Speaker: higher okay.
- 7:46Speaker: Then we go in and check.
- 7:47Speaker: Okay.
- 7:47Speaker: Well it's limited there.
- 7:49Speaker: Why is it limited?
- 7:49Speaker: Well on the p p some
- 7:52Speaker: manufacturers will put maximum
- 7:54Speaker: opening percentage for that
- 7:56Speaker: valve because they've tested
- 7:57Speaker: they know that valve is so
- 7:58Speaker: oversized you're never going to
- 8:00Speaker: need to get over say, sixty
- 8:01Speaker: percent or this example was
- 8:03Speaker: ninety percent.
- 8:04Speaker: And so that example was ninety percent.
- 8:06Speaker: The the thing is, is that
- 8:08Speaker: they're starting to think
- 8:09Speaker: differently.
- 8:09Speaker: They're going into service calls
- 8:11Speaker: with more of an open mind, not
- 8:12Speaker: not really having that fear of a
- 8:15Speaker: high pressure.
- 8:15Speaker: The high pressure doesn't really matter anymore.
- 8:17Speaker: It's understanding the system as a whole, understanding like
- 8:20Speaker: where you can create dry ice and why dry ice happens.
- 8:23Speaker: A lot of people still like well, here, dry is real bad.
- 8:25Speaker: Well, dry ice is basically
- 8:26Speaker: you're going to get it in your
- 8:28Speaker: hoses.
- 8:28Speaker: That's where you're going to see it everywhere else.
- 8:30Speaker: If you do proper services, just like HFC, RAC, you're not going
- 8:34Speaker: to get any dry ice.
- 8:36Speaker: Usually the only time you'll see dry ice, if maybe you got a
- 8:39Speaker: valve like a liquid line valve that's busted and you can't pump
- 8:42Speaker: that down and you've got to cut it out and you got to isolate it
- 8:45Speaker: into other spots.
- 8:46Speaker: So you got to cut that pipe there or get it out through a,
- 8:51Speaker: through a access fitting.
- 8:53Speaker: And then all of a sudden you'll
- 8:54Speaker: get some dry ice in that, that
- 8:55Speaker: line.
- 8:56Speaker: That can happen.
- 8:57Speaker: But usually if you're doing
- 8:58Speaker: standard service, there's no way
- 9:00Speaker: you should be getting dry ice,
- 9:01Speaker: maybe in the filter dryer in the
- 9:04Speaker: canister there.
- 9:04Speaker: But even if you do it right, you should not even get dry ice in
- 9:07Speaker: there because you should be taking anything left that's in
- 9:11Speaker: there from your flash tank pressure, because that's what
- 9:14Speaker: it's going to be in there.
- 9:14Speaker: Your receiver pressure in that
- 9:16Speaker: liquid line filter dryer, and
- 9:18Speaker: you're just going to put it in
- 9:18Speaker: the suction.
- 9:19Speaker: Right.
- 9:19Speaker: Any of the vapor.
- 9:20Speaker: So you get it down to that two
- 9:22Speaker: hundred bar fifty sorry two
- 9:23Speaker: hundred psi or fourteen fifteen
- 9:25Speaker: bar.
- 9:26Speaker: That's just that's it.
- 9:28Speaker: And so then these are the process.
- 9:30Speaker: So this is what I love about these courses.
- 9:32Speaker: And then I continue to hear from service managers like Trevor.
- 9:35Speaker: My lead guys aren't getting so many so many calls.
- 9:37Speaker: So if you're that lead guy out there you understand what's
- 9:41Speaker: happening right now.
- 9:42Speaker: You're getting all the calls
- 9:43Speaker: from those lower level skill
- 9:46Speaker: guys.
- 9:46Speaker: And really, it's not their fault
- 9:48Speaker: because they weren't trained on
- 9:50Speaker: the process.
- 9:50Speaker: Like the way I train new
- 9:53Speaker: technicians who have a couple of
- 9:54Speaker: years are different than I train
- 9:56Speaker: when I have guys that are doing
- 9:57Speaker: it for ten or fifteen years,
- 9:59Speaker: because there's different
- 10:00Speaker: knowledge, knowledge paths and
- 10:03Speaker: different ways to to really
- 10:05Speaker: access different parts of the
- 10:07Speaker: brain.
- 10:08Speaker: And that's why a lot of times in the courses, because I'm doing
- 10:11Speaker: like a lot of this online, I'm showing them, you got to get out
- 10:14Speaker: that that pad, that site, you got to have it printed off.
- 10:18Speaker: You got to have that wiring
- 10:19Speaker: diagram printed off the IO, your
- 10:22Speaker: own stapled together or on big
- 10:24Speaker: sheets.
- 10:25Speaker: And then you got to have your markers or different colored
- 10:27Speaker: pens there, and you got to start writing on this stuff.
- 10:30Speaker: So I know this line goes up to my heat reclaim.
- 10:33Speaker: My heat reclaim is thirty five percent open at this point.
- 10:35Speaker: Why is it thirty five percent open?
- 10:37Speaker: What is it?
- 10:38Speaker: Why is it open thirty five percent and we're bypassing ten
- 10:43Speaker: fifteen psi differential.
- 10:46Speaker: Okay.
- 10:47Speaker: We got to figure that out.
- 10:48Speaker: Why is that even happening at
- 10:49Speaker: this point we need to understand
- 10:51Speaker: that.
- 10:51Speaker: And then you write down all the electrical stuff.
- 10:54Speaker: You have your electrical plans in front of you.
- 10:55Speaker: So okay I got five seventy five
- 10:57Speaker: come in or I got four sixty
- 10:59Speaker: coming in.
- 10:59Speaker: I got two eight or two thirty coming in.
- 11:01Speaker: You write that stuff down and
- 11:02Speaker: you do this on a step by step
- 11:03Speaker: approach.
- 11:04Speaker: And when I'm in these training programs, I'm teaching it.
- 11:07Speaker: And the guys honestly, those
- 11:09Speaker: technicians that are doing this,
- 11:10Speaker: they're fast tracking all the
- 11:11Speaker: other guys.
- 11:12Speaker: And I see it, I see newer technicians only three or four
- 11:15Speaker: years in, out troubleshooting.
- 11:17Speaker: The guys that have been doing it ten or twelve years who are not
- 11:19Speaker: doing it this way, taking down the data, that's what it is.
- 11:23Speaker: Looking at the data, understanding the trend graph.
- 11:25Speaker: Understanding percentage of valves open.
- 11:27Speaker: Understanding the different levels.
- 11:29Speaker: When when something.
- 11:30Speaker: The sequence of operation of things happening.
- 11:34Speaker: That's it.
- 11:35Speaker: Because everything in refrigeration is facts.
- 11:37Speaker: I used to think that I used to assume a lot, because I didn't
- 11:40Speaker: know how to do refrigeration when I started out.
- 11:42Speaker: I'll be honest with you, I didn't know.
- 11:44Speaker: I learned the hard way.
- 11:45Speaker: I broke a lot of things.
- 11:46Speaker: I had some lots of great people who wanted to help, for sure.
- 11:50Speaker: There was a lot of great people, but there were only a couple
- 11:52Speaker: years ahead of me.
- 11:54Speaker: There was there was a few old school guys that were.
- 11:56Speaker: They showed me some stuff.
- 11:57Speaker: They would grab pipe, they'd hold it here, make sure it is
- 12:00Speaker: cold, make sure this is warm.
- 12:01Speaker: But there was not really a process behind it.
- 12:04Speaker: And this is the process that I teach in my program.
- 12:07Speaker: I'm giving it to you here right now.
- 12:09Speaker: Need to understand that wiring diagram.
- 12:12Speaker: Understand that I o schedule
- 12:14Speaker: understand that and
- 12:17Speaker: refrigeration schedule.
- 12:18Speaker: Understand those four things.
- 12:19Speaker: And you if you're using those
- 12:21Speaker: all honestly you're going to get
- 12:23Speaker: better.
- 12:23Speaker: And I get this all the time Trevor.
- 12:25Speaker: They don't have the needs on site.
- 12:28Speaker: Someone took them.
- 12:29Speaker: The store is twenty years old.
- 12:31Speaker: There is a need somewhere.
- 12:33Speaker: If it's from one of the major
- 12:34Speaker: manufacturers, there's usually a
- 12:36Speaker: need.
- 12:37Speaker: Now, the store could have been rented three or four times, but
- 12:40Speaker: that base is still the same.
- 12:42Speaker: That base rack is still going to be the same, and you can get
- 12:47Speaker: that base program base need.
- 12:50Speaker: Call up Hussman.
- 12:51Speaker: Call up Hill.
- 12:52Speaker: Call up.
- 12:53Speaker: Call up these manufacturers that give them the serial number.
- 12:55Speaker: Give them the address.
- 12:56Speaker: And this here is going to really help them find it because I do
- 13:01Speaker: it all the time.
- 13:02Speaker: I will email husband I will email Hill for for companies.
- 13:05Speaker: And they send the they they send it to the guys you know.
- 13:09Speaker: And sometimes it takes two or three times to actually get a
- 13:13Speaker: hold of the right person.
- 13:14Speaker: But that's okay.
- 13:15Speaker: Sometimes it takes a few hours to get it.
- 13:18Speaker: Twenty years ago it was weeks sometimes, or not getting it at
- 13:22Speaker: all because, you know, I didn't even know that.
- 13:25Speaker: Something you could do.
- 13:26Speaker: But now the manufacturers do want to help.
- 13:28Speaker: They want to make it really easy for you.
- 13:30Speaker: Most of them, especially a lot
- 13:31Speaker: of people there, they want to
- 13:33Speaker: make it easier because so that
- 13:34Speaker: you like the stuff that you're
- 13:35Speaker: working on.
- 13:35Speaker: So you talk good about it.
- 13:37Speaker: Oh, they got they got good plans.
- 13:39Speaker: They got good pads, they got good electrical wiring diagrams,
- 13:42Speaker: they got good customer service, they got good support.
- 13:45Speaker: And it's not always going to be always good.
- 13:47Speaker: But you know what?
- 13:48Speaker: When you reach out to them and
- 13:51Speaker: you talk to them and really dive
- 13:55Speaker: in, they're they're they want to
- 13:56Speaker: help.
- 13:57Speaker: They want to help for sure.
- 13:59Speaker: Because I talk and I know most of them, and they tell me they
- 14:01Speaker: want help, but it's sometimes there's just so much going on.
- 14:05Speaker: And depending on what time you call and depending on who you
- 14:08Speaker: get, you know, there there's humans that are involved.
- 14:11Speaker: So there's always that these manufacturers always some good
- 14:14Speaker: people who want to help support you, but you call them up, say,
- 14:17Speaker: I need these, these I'm at the store, I need these or you're
- 14:20Speaker: not at the store yet.
- 14:21Speaker: You just took over the store.
- 14:23Speaker: Get it?
- 14:24Speaker: And I've had I've had some people in the community too.
- 14:27Speaker: And this one, one young kid that
- 14:28Speaker: who wants to do really good and,
- 14:31Speaker: uh, he started to fall afoul of
- 14:34Speaker: us, took some programs, leveled
- 14:36Speaker: up, and I said, go and get the
- 14:38Speaker: pad.
- 14:38Speaker: So he went and he talked to his service manager.
- 14:40Speaker: He's like, yeah, I'm looking for a pad store.
- 14:43Speaker: I can't find it.
- 14:43Speaker: Do you know where I can find the pad?
- 14:46Speaker: And the service manager was like, I've been doing this for
- 14:48Speaker: twenty five years.
- 14:49Speaker: You don't need I didn't need a pad.
- 14:50Speaker: You don't need a pad.
- 14:52Speaker: Now, that's the wrong attitude.
- 14:53Speaker: That's not a really good leader, you know.
- 14:55Speaker: And there's lots of them out there.
- 14:58Speaker: They.
- 14:58Speaker: He should add some curiosity because he probably didn't even
- 15:01Speaker: know what a pad was when he asked the service manager that
- 15:04Speaker: and that's the thing like, and he could have said, well, I
- 15:08Speaker: don't know what a piano.
- 15:09Speaker: I've been doing this for twenty five years.
- 15:10Speaker: I don't really know.
- 15:10Speaker: Can you explain what a pad is?
- 15:12Speaker: Maybe I can help find maybe if you explain it in a different
- 15:15Speaker: way, the piping schematic of the rack, it's the rack drawing.
- 15:18Speaker: It's where all the components on the rack lay, like the separator
- 15:21Speaker: and the compressors.
- 15:21Speaker: Do you know where that's.
- 15:22Speaker: He could add some more curiosity than just shutting him down.
- 15:26Speaker: And you know what?
- 15:26Speaker: That kid's gonna out surpass that service manager.
- 15:29Speaker: Definitely in a couple of years, for sure.
- 15:31Speaker: And he'll be a better leader just from talking to him.
- 15:34Speaker: I haven't even met the other person.
- 15:35Speaker: But just from understanding the those reactions.
- 15:38Speaker: And every time they go to the
- 15:39Speaker: leader, it's just like pushing
- 15:41Speaker: them off.
- 15:41Speaker: And and I see this.
- 15:43Speaker: I have so many technicians, good technicians that come to me that
- 15:47Speaker: are actually looking to move or looking to shift because they
- 15:50Speaker: understand there are good leaders out there, there's good
- 15:52Speaker: service managers, good companies out there that who want to help
- 15:55Speaker: train them, who want to help grow, grow them.
- 15:57Speaker: And this is the shift.
- 15:58Speaker: I'm seeing a massive shift,
- 16:00Speaker: especially in the people coming
- 16:01Speaker: into the refrigeration mentor
- 16:02Speaker: community.
- 16:03Speaker: The technicians that are are
- 16:05Speaker: following and coming in, coming
- 16:07Speaker: in and learning from the
- 16:08Speaker: programs.
- 16:09Speaker: They want to do a good job, they
- 16:11Speaker: want to level up, and most
- 16:13Speaker: technicians do.
- 16:14Speaker: That's the thing.
- 16:15Speaker: Most technicians want to do an amazing job.
- 16:19Speaker: The problem is, is that there's not a lot of great training out
- 16:24Speaker: there for these technicians.
- 16:26Speaker: I talked to one the other day because I call up a lot of
- 16:30Speaker: technicians, because I love to find out how they found out
- 16:33Speaker: about refrigeration, mentor, how we can help them.
- 16:35Speaker: Did they get into all the free
- 16:37Speaker: content that we have some free
- 16:38Speaker: videos.
- 16:38Speaker: What do they need?
- 16:39Speaker: Where are they at in their journey?
- 16:40Speaker: I love finding that stuff out.
- 16:42Speaker: I love working with them because every time I do a course, I call
- 16:47Speaker: a lot of the technicians out before we even start the course
- 16:49Speaker: to find out about them.
- 16:50Speaker: Because I want to know, because
- 16:51Speaker: I want to know how I can help
- 16:53Speaker: them, because that's my whole
- 16:54Speaker: goal, is I want to level them
- 16:55Speaker: up.
- 16:56Speaker: I really want technicians to
- 16:57Speaker: know more than me that that that
- 16:59Speaker: means that they're going to be
- 17:00Speaker: like out there sharing that
- 17:01Speaker: knowledge, because that's what I
- 17:02Speaker: want.
- 17:03Speaker: If you came into a refrigeration
- 17:05Speaker: mentor program through either a
- 17:07Speaker: contractor training, one of our
- 17:08Speaker: eight week program, come into
- 17:10Speaker: the community to come into the
- 17:11Speaker: supermarket, academy, whatever
- 17:13Speaker: it is, I want you to learn that
- 17:15Speaker: stuff and start sharing it with
- 17:17Speaker: people, like sharing your
- 17:18Speaker: knowledge, explaining it in your
- 17:20Speaker: way.
- 17:20Speaker: That's what I want because this is how we get a better industry.
- 17:23Speaker: This is how we all grow so much faster.
- 17:27Speaker: And when I start to to see that
- 17:30Speaker: there, that is the shift that
- 17:32Speaker: I'm seeing.
- 17:33Speaker: Because these technicians, they want to do a good job, but that
- 17:36Speaker: training is just not happening.
- 17:37Speaker: And getting back to that
- 17:39Speaker: conversation I was having with
- 17:40Speaker: the technician, he's like, yeah,
- 17:41Speaker: Trevor, you know, they do
- 17:43Speaker: training, they have an internal
- 17:44Speaker: training program.
- 17:46Speaker: You know, um, but you know, like
- 17:48Speaker: I get a training every two
- 17:49Speaker: years.
- 17:50Speaker: Maybe I'll go in for a week or five days.
- 17:52Speaker: I'm away from my family.
- 17:53Speaker: It's it's hard on me to do this.
- 17:55Speaker: And they expect, two years later, me to still remember all
- 17:58Speaker: that stuff that I never even worked on once every six months.
- 18:01Speaker: That is not continuing education.
- 18:03Speaker: That is not continuing learning.
- 18:05Speaker: That's not real training for if it's every two or three years,
- 18:09Speaker: you need consistent training.
- 18:11Speaker: Honestly, the best technicians
- 18:13Speaker: out there are training every
- 18:14Speaker: week.
- 18:15Speaker: Maybe it's not literally going
- 18:16Speaker: into a one day training because
- 18:17Speaker: I don't really that that is
- 18:19Speaker: good.
- 18:19Speaker: There's a purpose for that.
- 18:21Speaker: But that's not the way we do it.
- 18:23Speaker: At Refrigeration Mentor, we
- 18:24Speaker: think of long term
- 18:26Speaker: microlearning, learning weekly,
- 18:29Speaker: investing in your time, and
- 18:30Speaker: those technicians that are
- 18:31Speaker: putting the work in every day,
- 18:32Speaker: twenty, thirty, forty minutes
- 18:34Speaker: outside work or maybe even
- 18:36Speaker: inside work, but something that
- 18:38Speaker: is moving the mark for them,
- 18:40Speaker: something that they can repeat
- 18:42Speaker: repeatable things.
- 18:43Speaker: And that's what I try to do.
- 18:44Speaker: Like in the Supermarket academy, in these eight week programs, I
- 18:47Speaker: try to make it repeatable so the technician can go out in the
- 18:50Speaker: field and actually do that work, like if they're going to go
- 18:53Speaker: change a strainer or an oil, or do an oil change, do an oil
- 18:57Speaker: analysis or get a lab test the steps in the process.
- 19:00Speaker: I have lots of technicians like Trevor working on CO2.
- 19:03Speaker: I'm pumping against two hundred psi, three hundred psi.
- 19:07Speaker: You know, like fourteen fifteen bar.
- 19:10Speaker: Why?
- 19:10Speaker: You don't have to do that.
- 19:11Speaker: There is other ways around.
- 19:13Speaker: Don't get me wrong, there are situations there because there's
- 19:16Speaker: so many different types of equipment out there that you
- 19:19Speaker: could might have to do that in some scenario out there, but
- 19:21Speaker: most of the time on commercial refrigeration supermarket racks,
- 19:26Speaker: you don't have to pump it in against three four hundred
- 19:29Speaker: pounds, because I've had people in the suction of the medium,
- 19:31Speaker: then pumping it in that or pumping it into the accumulator
- 19:35Speaker: or the oil receiver, and that's flash tank pressure.
- 19:37Speaker: You know, you don't have to do that.
- 19:39Speaker: There are certain ways that you can isolate stuff.
- 19:42Speaker: You can add oil, you can use a vac pump to pull it in.
- 19:45Speaker: You can pump down a certain.
- 19:46Speaker: There's so many different ways to make it easier for you.
- 19:49Speaker: Does it take longer?
- 19:50Speaker: Probably.
- 19:51Speaker: But the thing is, is doing it
- 19:53Speaker: right the first time, making
- 19:55Speaker: sure you're not getting any air,
- 19:56Speaker: pulling that evacuation later,
- 19:58Speaker: saving your arms from pumping,
- 20:00Speaker: pumping all that up against all
- 20:02Speaker: that pressure.
- 20:04Speaker: And it's important to understand
- 20:07Speaker: that continuing education
- 20:09Speaker: happens continually, not once
- 20:12Speaker: every two, three or four years,
- 20:13Speaker: because I've had I've done group
- 20:15Speaker: trainings where I had
- 20:16Speaker: technicians said, this is my
- 20:17Speaker: first training.
- 20:18Speaker: I've been at Trevor in like ten years, like I've done I stopped
- 20:21Speaker: at a wholesaler and did a did a train, but that was not real.
- 20:25Speaker: Structured training like you.
- 20:27Speaker: Like we went through here because I asked him, when was
- 20:30Speaker: the last time you did training?
- 20:31Speaker: Well, last time I was, when I
- 20:32Speaker: was in school, when I was in
- 20:34Speaker: apprentice school.
- 20:34Speaker: That was five years ago.
- 20:35Speaker: It's like that's way too long.
- 20:37Speaker: Especially with the way things are ramping up.
- 20:40Speaker: Even with CO2.
- 20:41Speaker: Even I work with companies that do CO2 all the time, and I'm
- 20:44Speaker: training the technicians that do work on CO2 daily.
- 20:48Speaker: They we still need to talk about.
- 20:50Speaker: We still need training on
- 20:51Speaker: because it's not just it's not
- 20:52Speaker: like you're just working on the
- 20:53Speaker: same piece of equipment, the
- 20:54Speaker: same controllers.
- 20:56Speaker: There's a lot of stuff out there to know when we start to get
- 20:58Speaker: into setting up Vfds now.
- 21:00Speaker: Now, maybe they need to learn a
- 21:01Speaker: bit more of the fine tuning side
- 21:03Speaker: of it.
- 21:04Speaker: How do we fine tune the gas cooler?
- 21:05Speaker: How do we fine tune the parallel compressor?
- 21:07Speaker: How do we fine tune the system in a whole?
- 21:10Speaker: The cases, the the rack itself, the suction groups, there's so
- 21:14Speaker: much to it.
- 21:15Speaker: But I'll be honest with you, it
- 21:17Speaker: comes back to the approach of
- 21:19Speaker: your troubleshooting.
- 21:20Speaker: And this is what I talk about in these trainings.
- 21:23Speaker: When I do an eight week training or supermarket, eight week
- 21:25Speaker: training or a CO2 training.
- 21:26Speaker: It's getting back to the fundamentals, getting back to
- 21:29Speaker: your approach on your troubleshooting, because all
- 21:31Speaker: these service calls, especially if it was a good startup and it
- 21:36Speaker: was a good, uh, construction, uh, job, a good install.
- 21:41Speaker: You don't usually have a lot of
- 21:42Speaker: calls at the stores, first of
- 21:43Speaker: all.
- 21:44Speaker: Second of all, the calls that you do get are the the wear and
- 21:48Speaker: tear or the maintenance calls.
- 21:51Speaker: They're not heavy, heavy service calls.
- 21:53Speaker: Like, all of a sudden every two
- 21:55Speaker: months the cases are freezing
- 21:56Speaker: up.
- 21:57Speaker: Every two months cases are freezing up.
- 21:59Speaker: It's a it's usually a setup
- 22:01Speaker: issue usually, or a failed
- 22:04Speaker: component issue.
- 22:05Speaker: Now there were some designs with like hot gas defrost and low
- 22:09Speaker: temp defrost that, you know there were there were in the
- 22:12Speaker: initial phases when they were doing them fifteen years ago,
- 22:15Speaker: ten years ago.
- 22:16Speaker: I don't really see that a lot on these like newer hot gas system.
- 22:21Speaker: Does it happen?
- 22:21Speaker: For sure.
- 22:22Speaker: But then it comes back to me is where's the load?
- 22:25Speaker: Like if you're doing a hot gas, you need load to be happen.
- 22:28Speaker: If you got no load, you're trying to get hot gas.
- 22:30Speaker: You're doing heat reclaim as well.
- 22:32Speaker: There has to be a give and take.
- 22:33Speaker: And this is stuff I teach is like, well, if I got a massive
- 22:38Speaker: percent going into defrost, I may not have enough heat to do
- 22:44Speaker: the heat reclaim.
- 22:46Speaker: Or if the heat reclaim is is just working wide open when a
- 22:51Speaker: big load comes on in for a hot gas defrost and then load, one
- 22:55Speaker: comes on, then a high one comes on, you might you might not have
- 22:59Speaker: enough heat because it's minus twenty five outside.
- 23:02Speaker: So then maybe that's supposed to ramp up.
- 23:05Speaker: Maybe that rack should be when you're in heat reclaim and
- 23:09Speaker: you're going defrost that.
- 23:10Speaker: It pushes it up, it overrides the system, pushes it up to a
- 23:13Speaker: thousand psi, or pushes it up to ninety or whatever it is, that
- 23:18Speaker: system to get that or eighty bar, just push it up so we get
- 23:22Speaker: more heat so we can distribute it to defrost stuff.
- 23:26Speaker: So you should not have cases
- 23:27Speaker: freezing up every, every two
- 23:29Speaker: months.
- 23:29Speaker: There's something going on.
- 23:31Speaker: Maybe it's a piping issue.
- 23:32Speaker: Maybe it's not the parameter.
- 23:33Speaker: Maybe someone piped it wrong.
- 23:34Speaker: That could that happens as well, but it just comes back to
- 23:38Speaker: knowing the pad, knowing the wiring diagram, knowing, knowing
- 23:43Speaker: the refrigeration schedule, knowing the I o schedule.
- 23:46Speaker: And this is it, this is it.
- 23:48Speaker: And I see when I get technicians going in and it's on paper,
- 23:51Speaker: we're not even in the field yet.
- 23:52Speaker: They're not in the field yet because they got to go out and
- 23:54Speaker: they got to take all these pictures and they got to get the
- 23:56Speaker: trend graphs, and they got to get parameters, and we got to we
- 23:59Speaker: got to put it all together.
- 24:00Speaker: But when they start piecing
- 24:01Speaker: together like, holy smokes, this
- 24:03Speaker: makes sense.
- 24:05Speaker: I know what they're trying the
- 24:07Speaker: manufacturers actually trying to
- 24:08Speaker: do.
- 24:09Speaker: I know how it's supposed to work normal.
- 24:12Speaker: So now when I go into a call and it's not working normal, I know
- 24:15Speaker: what to look for.
- 24:17Speaker: This is what I love.
- 24:18Speaker: And this is continually surprises me.
- 24:22Speaker: When a technician reached out or a company reached out afterwards
- 24:25Speaker: like, Holy smokes, Trevor!
- 24:26Speaker: Like this.
- 24:27Speaker: This was game changing for my team.
- 24:29Speaker: It was game changing for my lead techs because my lead techs,
- 24:33Speaker: they're taking they're getting half the calls.
- 24:34Speaker: They can now actually get jobs done.
- 24:37Speaker: They're not taking the twenty
- 24:38Speaker: five calls a day from all the
- 24:40Speaker: other technicians and still
- 24:41Speaker: trying to get their work done
- 24:43Speaker: because they're behind, because
- 24:44Speaker: they're not getting paid for
- 24:45Speaker: those calls.
- 24:46Speaker: Every time a apprentice calls or even a journeyman tech
- 24:50Speaker: technician having to call another one and bouncing ideas
- 24:53Speaker: off, they're not getting paid for that, you know that that's
- 24:57Speaker: not really chargeable time.
- 24:59Speaker: They're getting paid because they're charging probably the
- 25:01Speaker: job that they're on, but they don't love doing that.
- 25:04Speaker: They want to be doing their job, getting their job done, but they
- 25:06Speaker: want to help as well.
- 25:08Speaker: So this is where that continuing education super helps.
- 25:12Speaker: And if you can't get into a refrigeration mentor program,
- 25:16Speaker: you got to go in and start watching some of the YouTube
- 25:19Speaker: videos, get into the community, get the free stuff and into you.
- 25:22Speaker: But if you're a company and you
- 25:24Speaker: have a bunch, you have
- 25:25Speaker: technicians who are out there in
- 25:27Speaker: the field and won a level, you
- 25:29Speaker: want them to level up, this is
- 25:31Speaker: it.
- 25:31Speaker: Getting into a structured training program, getting them
- 25:34Speaker: to learn them because they're out in the field.
- 25:36Speaker: Anyway, here there's all Trevor, can you fly here to this country
- 25:40Speaker: or this province or this state?
- 25:41Speaker: Can you come here for three or four days and teach?
- 25:44Speaker: I could, but I don't think it's
- 25:46Speaker: that valuable today to do that
- 25:48Speaker: stuff today.
- 25:50Speaker: Like they're out in the road.
- 25:51Speaker: They're in seven different states.
- 25:53Speaker: I can teach all these different guys.
- 25:55Speaker: They're already working on equipment.
- 25:56Speaker: They know how to use the meter safe.
- 25:58Speaker: They know how to use the gauges safe.
- 25:59Speaker: I teach them the process.
- 26:01Speaker: I teach them how to learn, how to troubleshoot.
- 26:03Speaker: And that's it.
- 26:04Speaker: I think I'm teaching more people how to learn and actually
- 26:07Speaker: teaching them the techniques.
- 26:09Speaker: Well, a lot of the the technical side comes in with that.
- 26:13Speaker: It's all about how do you learn and learning faster and faster.
- 26:16Speaker: This is this is what is really I see some technicians.
- 26:19Speaker: There are a few people in.
- 26:21Speaker: There was a guy named Louis from New Zealand, guy from Canada,
- 26:25Speaker: Stephen from the US.
- 26:27Speaker: Noah, Andrew, Aiden.
- 26:28Speaker: There's all these technicians that have come into the
- 26:30Speaker: different programs and honestly just have been crushing it.
- 26:34Speaker: I got countless technicians out there that I've just seen in the
- 26:37Speaker: last two or three years are just like rock star technicians just
- 26:42Speaker: leveling this stuff up, and it just surprises me how fast
- 26:48Speaker: they're learning now.
- 26:49Speaker: They're training teams of people half the time.
- 26:51Speaker: Half of them are just training tons of other technicians from,
- 26:55Speaker: uh, and I love it.
- 26:57Speaker: And I love seeing seeing them
- 26:59Speaker: continue to share that
- 27:00Speaker: knowledge.
- 27:01Speaker: That's who we're looking for in
- 27:03Speaker: the refrigeration mentor
- 27:04Speaker: community.
- 27:04Speaker: Refrigeration people from around the world who want to help other
- 27:07Speaker: technicians because it's not a big industry, consider there's
- 27:11Speaker: eight billion people on the planet and there's a couple
- 27:15Speaker: million, if that.
- 27:16Speaker: There's probably not even a couple million supermarket
- 27:19Speaker: mechanics on the planet.
- 27:21Speaker: They're there.
- 27:22Speaker: I don't even I don't know if there is.
- 27:23Speaker: I don't know the number, but I would love to know how many
- 27:26Speaker: supermarket and CO2 technicians engineers are on the planet and
- 27:29Speaker: if anyone has that number or accurate, even if you know, in
- 27:33Speaker: your own country, send it to me.
- 27:35Speaker: I'd love you to email info at Refrigeration Mentor Comm.
- 27:38Speaker: I would love to know, because I
- 27:40Speaker: would love to know how many
- 27:41Speaker: supermarket technicians are out
- 27:42Speaker: there working on racks, working
- 27:44Speaker: on CO2, because I want to get to
- 27:46Speaker: know them because that's you
- 27:47Speaker: guys are my people, and I want
- 27:49Speaker: to help you get to that next
- 27:50Speaker: level.
- 27:51Speaker: Because this is this is it.
- 27:52Speaker: We're a small community who want to help each other level up.
- 27:56Speaker: There is a lot of stuff to know.
- 27:59Speaker: There's so many things to know.
- 28:00Speaker: Just like compressed, there's five, six major manufacturers
- 28:05Speaker: around the world.
- 28:06Speaker: Okay.
- 28:07Speaker: Each one of them, each one of
- 28:08Speaker: those compressors, they work
- 28:09Speaker: differently.
- 28:10Speaker: Yes.
- 28:10Speaker: They pump CO2, they pump refrigerant.
- 28:15Speaker: Okay.
- 28:15Speaker: Vapor refrigerant.
- 28:17Speaker: but they work differently.
- 28:18Speaker: They have different components on it.
- 28:20Speaker: Some have they have different oil management strategies.
- 28:22Speaker: They have different temperatures.
- 28:23Speaker: They have different valve plates.
- 28:24Speaker: They have different they have
- 28:25Speaker: more valve plates or less valve
- 28:26Speaker: plates.
- 28:26Speaker: They've got different capacities.
- 28:27Speaker: They've got different drives on them.
- 28:29Speaker: They've got different ranges,
- 28:30Speaker: operation levels and so on and
- 28:32Speaker: so forth.
- 28:33Speaker: And this is what I see with these technicians who come
- 28:38Speaker: through the programs or, or if a contractor hires us, this is
- 28:43Speaker: what I'm seeing differently.
- 28:44Speaker: I'm seeing technicians thinking outside the box.
- 28:48Speaker: I think I see them wanting to go
- 28:51Speaker: back and solve the hardest
- 28:53Speaker: problems.
- 28:54Speaker: They're asking for the hardest, hardest jobs.
- 28:57Speaker: They're asking to go on more CO2 calls.
- 29:00Speaker: See it?
- 29:01Speaker: It's like.
- 29:02Speaker: It's like when we started, we met two years ago.
- 29:05Speaker: It was it was new to him two or two and a half years ago, maybe
- 29:09Speaker: three years now.
- 29:09Speaker: Holy smokes.
- 29:10Speaker: But he was like, I want to work on CO2.
- 29:12Speaker: I only want to work on CO2.
- 29:14Speaker: And what he did, he's busted his ass to.
- 29:17Speaker: Now he's really the CO2 guy.
- 29:20Speaker: He's going to all the calls he wants to take.
- 29:22Speaker: All.
- 29:22Speaker: He's like, any call comes in CO2.
- 29:23Speaker: I want to take it.
- 29:24Speaker: This is my learning moment.
- 29:26Speaker: Even if he doesn't know how to
- 29:27Speaker: fix it or what to do, he's going
- 29:29Speaker: there and he's going to figure
- 29:30Speaker: it out.
- 29:30Speaker: And he's done it time and time again, which I love.
- 29:33Speaker: And these are the technicians
- 29:34Speaker: we're looking for in the
- 29:35Speaker: community.
- 29:36Speaker: We want supermarket technicians, CO2 technicians, refrigeration
- 29:40Speaker: technicians who want to help others, who want to help out.
- 29:44Speaker: And shout out to Eric, the new
- 29:45Speaker: ambassador of the refrigeration
- 29:47Speaker: mentor community.
- 29:48Speaker: Like this guy is.
- 29:49Speaker: He's just a field rockstar as well.
- 29:51Speaker: We have lots of great
- 29:52Speaker: conversations on how he goes
- 29:54Speaker: out, and he trains the
- 29:56Speaker: technicians who's going to do
- 29:57Speaker: the startups and walks through
- 29:59Speaker: his process of doing this is so,
- 30:01Speaker: so important.
- 30:02Speaker: And just sitting down and watching the trend graphs and
- 30:05Speaker: watching listening to the rack and watching how it takes time
- 30:08Speaker: to set up a rack.
- 30:09Speaker: Good.
- 30:10Speaker: It takes time to install a system good.
- 30:13Speaker: It takes time to service it properly.
- 30:16Speaker: But this is what we want to do.
- 30:18Speaker: We want to have the best piece of equipment.
- 30:20Speaker: And when end users start to realize this and the ones that
- 30:24Speaker: do it does cost more up front.
- 30:26Speaker: It doesn't even matter what
- 30:27Speaker: refrigerants, CO2 or not that up
- 30:31Speaker: front.
- 30:31Speaker: First installation, first startup, first commission, first
- 30:36Speaker: maintenance is the most important thing and it's going
- 30:39Speaker: to cost more.
- 30:40Speaker: I see time and time again
- 30:42Speaker: they're going for the lowest
- 30:43Speaker: bid.
- 30:44Speaker: Lots of times I hear about this and they go into the lowest bid
- 30:47Speaker: and all of a sudden stuff's not working issues happening.
- 30:51Speaker: This is the issue people don't know.
- 30:54Speaker: There's lots of people that don't know how to do.
- 30:56Speaker: And don't get me wrong, there's higher priced contractors that
- 30:59Speaker: don't know how to do it right.
- 31:00Speaker: Either they run into issues.
- 31:02Speaker: But honestly, when you're hiring people that do not do
- 31:06Speaker: supermarket refrigeration, do not have the experience on doing
- 31:10Speaker: a install, do not have the experience on service.
- 31:13Speaker: It takes a lot longer.
- 31:16Speaker: And I talked to a lot of the end users, and I'm trying to tell
- 31:19Speaker: them, like, you need to start training your contractors.
- 31:22Speaker: And they're like, oh no, it's a contractor job.
- 31:24Speaker: No, you should be hiring us to train your contractors.
- 31:28Speaker: It will save you millions of
- 31:29Speaker: dollars with having a trained
- 31:31Speaker: team.
- 31:32Speaker: Doesn't matter if they're coming
- 31:34Speaker: in and doing well, because the
- 31:36Speaker: big thing is, is that end users
- 31:38Speaker: are not.
- 31:39Speaker: You need trained and skilled
- 31:40Speaker: people working on supermarket
- 31:41Speaker: refrigeration, and that's what
- 31:43Speaker: we are.
- 31:43Speaker: The best technicians I know are working on larger systems.
- 31:49Speaker: They're they're working on multiple controllers.
- 31:52Speaker: They're troubleshooting off the
- 31:54Speaker: pads, the wiring diagrams, the I
- 31:57Speaker: o and the refrigeration
- 31:58Speaker: schedules.
- 31:59Speaker: That's the best technicians out
- 32:01Speaker: there, especially for CO2,
- 32:03Speaker: because now you can drop them on
- 32:04Speaker: anybody's rack.
- 32:05Speaker: You can drop them on a zero C and RNA, LMP, a car, not a hill.
- 32:11Speaker: Phoenix, a Tooheys, A Daikin.
- 32:14Speaker: It doesn't matter a bit, sir.
- 32:16Speaker: It doesn't matter.
- 32:17Speaker: The rack manufacturer.
- 32:19Speaker: Because they can go in and they can get the the base, the bones
- 32:23Speaker: of that equipment, and they can start looking at and it's
- 32:26Speaker: process of elimination.
- 32:28Speaker: Understand the sequence of operation.
- 32:30Speaker: Now does it take a little bit longer at first if they never
- 32:33Speaker: worked on equipment for sure.
- 32:35Speaker: But they understand the fundamentals behind it.
- 32:37Speaker: They know how it should function.
- 32:40Speaker: Maybe they don't know all the set points yet.
- 32:42Speaker: Maybe they don't know that that
- 32:46Speaker: controller at first, but they
- 32:47Speaker: know exactly what's supposed to
- 32:49Speaker: happen just from those
- 32:51Speaker: documents.
- 32:52Speaker: And then maybe now they got to call the manufacturer for
- 32:55Speaker: specific numbers on, like, how does the oil management work?
- 32:59Speaker: Do you use a 30s?
- 33:00Speaker: Do you use 10s five on, five off?
- 33:02Speaker: Do you use sixty second, fifteen
- 33:04Speaker: on, forty five off, whatever it
- 33:06Speaker: is.
- 33:07Speaker: But this is the thing coming in and just learning that process.
- 33:11Speaker: And that's what I love seeing.
- 33:12Speaker: I have technicians now that can
- 33:13Speaker: go work on five or six different
- 33:15Speaker: manufacturers racks.
- 33:16Speaker: It doesn't matter to them.
- 33:18Speaker: Okay.
- 33:19Speaker: Even with the controller, it's a little bit more frustrating
- 33:21Speaker: because, well, how do I log in?
- 33:23Speaker: What's the username?
- 33:24Speaker: What's the password.
- 33:24Speaker: First step okay.
- 33:25Speaker: How do I navigate.
- 33:27Speaker: But after they get that hands on and you start to do that, that's
- 33:29Speaker: where it's like for sure they start to level up.
- 33:33Speaker: They'll get in there and say, okay, I know this is the case.
- 33:35Speaker: Well where's my valve opening percentage okay.
- 33:37Speaker: Where's my maximum minimum opening.
- 33:39Speaker: Is there a need?
- 33:41Speaker: I don't want to change that, but I want to just look at it.
- 33:43Speaker: How's that set up?
- 33:44Speaker: How's that working?
- 33:45Speaker: What is my speed rate on it?
- 33:47Speaker: Okay.
- 33:47Speaker: These are the things.
- 33:48Speaker: Is the valve have the right parameters even in it, or how is
- 33:50Speaker: it wired up?
- 33:51Speaker: Is it wired up to spec?
- 33:52Speaker: Is what kind of pressure transducer does it have on it?
- 33:55Speaker: Is it a five volt?
- 33:57Speaker: Is it a four to twenty milliamp?
- 33:58Speaker: Take a look at all this stuff.
- 34:00Speaker: And this is coming back to knowing that process.
- 34:03Speaker: And this is what I love about
- 34:05Speaker: doing the the contractor
- 34:07Speaker: trainings.
- 34:07Speaker: When a contractor hires me and put twenty techs in it is that I
- 34:11Speaker: start to dive into this stuff.
- 34:12Speaker: And some of the guys are just like, at first they're just
- 34:14Speaker: like, what is this?
- 34:16Speaker: What is this guy teaching us?
- 34:18Speaker: You know what I mean?
- 34:18Speaker: I want to get into my hands dirty.
- 34:20Speaker: I want to get my hands on it.
- 34:21Speaker: But then I get into these fundamentals and they're like,
- 34:24Speaker: at first this was.
- 34:25Speaker: I thought this was weird.
- 34:26Speaker: You know what I mean?
- 34:27Speaker: You're like, it's like a not
- 34:28Speaker: just another sales training or
- 34:30Speaker: something, just another training
- 34:32Speaker: that I could have went to a
- 34:33Speaker: manufacturer and then they're
- 34:34Speaker: just like, this stuff is making
- 34:37Speaker: sense.
- 34:39Speaker: Like when I look at these trend graphs now and the gas cooler
- 34:42Speaker: fan when that one turns on, but this one ramps up and the valve
- 34:44Speaker: goes shuts down.
- 34:46Speaker: I could start to see stuff.
- 34:49Speaker: I start to figure out, well, that shouldn't be happening.
- 34:52Speaker: I shouldn't be running this high of a drop leg temperature.
- 34:55Speaker: Well, what's going on?
- 34:57Speaker: Why is that happening?
- 34:58Speaker: And this is what I love this.
- 34:59Speaker: This is honestly.
- 35:00Speaker: So if you're a technician out
- 35:02Speaker: there and you want to level up,
- 35:03Speaker: the first step, honestly, is the
- 35:06Speaker: supermarket academy.
- 35:07Speaker: If you haven't taken the supermarket academy, uh, that is
- 35:10Speaker: the one you want to get in.
- 35:11Speaker: If you haven't, you know, if
- 35:13Speaker: you're doing three or four or
- 35:14Speaker: five or six years, seven, eight,
- 35:16Speaker: nine years.
- 35:16Speaker: And in supermarket, you never
- 35:18Speaker: took a supermarket course
- 35:19Speaker: before.
- 35:19Speaker: The academy for short is the stepping stone.
- 35:22Speaker: That's what I'm going to recommend for you.
- 35:24Speaker: If you're getting into CO2, it's
- 35:26Speaker: going to be eight weeks CO2
- 35:28Speaker: program.
- 35:29Speaker: Talk to your service man or talk to your boss.
- 35:31Speaker: Or if you're a service manager,
- 35:32Speaker: reach out info at Refrigeration
- 35:35Speaker: Comm.
- 35:35Speaker: My team will try to find some dates for you, get you into the
- 35:38Speaker: schedule if you need a morning one or an evening training.
- 35:41Speaker: All depends on where you're at
- 35:42Speaker: and what part of the world, and
- 35:44Speaker: we'll start to help level you
- 35:45Speaker: up.
- 35:46Speaker: I'll find out what piece of equipment you're working on.
- 35:48Speaker: Who's the component manufacturers?
- 35:50Speaker: Let's get these schedules in there.
- 35:51Speaker: How do we how do we want to do these maintenance.
- 35:55Speaker: How do we fine tune these systems?
- 35:57Speaker: That is what it's all about, which I love so much fun.
- 36:01Speaker: Um, once again, if you are looking for training, don't
- 36:04Speaker: hesitate to reach out.
- 36:05Speaker: This is it.
- 36:06Speaker: We do supermarket training.
- 36:08Speaker: We do CO2 training.
- 36:09Speaker: Technical training really to reduce those callbacks, reduce
- 36:14Speaker: troubleshooting time, really increase confidence, reduce lead
- 36:18Speaker: technicians called and really increase confidence to.
- 36:21Speaker: And this is this is fun.
- 36:22Speaker: If you're not in the
- 36:23Speaker: refrigeration mentor community
- 36:25Speaker: yet go to Refrigeration Mentor
- 36:27Speaker: Hub and really get into the
- 36:30Speaker: community because that's where
- 36:32Speaker: Andrew, Ade, and Eric are
- 36:34Speaker: answering tons of questions and
- 36:35Speaker: myself to really help level you
- 36:37Speaker: up.
- 36:38Speaker: Um, we want you guys to be super successful.
- 36:42Speaker: We want you to solve the hardest
- 36:44Speaker: problems in CO2 in supermarket
- 36:47Speaker: refrigeration.
- 36:48Speaker: And we love this stuff.
- 36:49Speaker: We love this stuff.
- 36:50Speaker: Reach out.
- 36:50Speaker: Put some comments in this if you're listening on Apple, if
- 36:53Speaker: you're listen on Spotify, or just get into the community and
- 36:55Speaker: ask some questions.
- 36:56Speaker: That's what I say.
- 36:57Speaker: That's another stepping stone there.
- 36:58Speaker: Um, because it's so much fun.
- 37:01Speaker: Hopefully you're learning a few things.
- 37:03Speaker: And as always, my name is Trevor Matthews.
- 37:05Speaker: Let's get a conversation going.
