- 0:00SPEAKER_04: In this episode, Zach Wallace drops by to have a to have it out with you.
- 0:06SPEAKER_04: We talk our games this weekend.
- 0:08SPEAKER_04: Social media on the up.
- 0:12SPEAKER_04: Pakistan are hosting the Olympic qualifier, or are they?
- 0:15SPEAKER_04: And of course start bench tell and shit or hit.
- 0:20SPEAKER_04: It's all next.
- 0:34SPEAKER_04: Welcome.
- 0:34SPEAKER_04: It's episode three.
- 0:35SPEAKER_04: Let's stick together.
- 0:37SPEAKER_04: We have a an excellent start to the podcast because Yupe has just been surprised instead of Brendan.
- 0:43SPEAKER_04: Zach Wallace has took his place.
- 0:45SPEAKER_04: You're right, Zach?
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: I'm good.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: I'm good.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: I feel uh quite honored to have been finally asked.
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: It's just a little drop-in session, especially.
- 0:55SPEAKER_04: I mean, there's a few reasons for this.
- 0:56SPEAKER_04: First of all, if anyone follows us on Instagram or you listened last week, you gave Zach some shit, so we decided to sort of surprise.
- 1:04SPEAKER_04: Oh no, Zach gave Yupe some shit, and then you went back.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: And so we thought, you know, it's it's go on, you go, you can go already.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, come on.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Don't get it twisted.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: He started he started the beef.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: It's it's not beef, but he started it.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: And I I just responded.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: That's that's that's all.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and obviously the second reason, unless you've been living under a rock, um, Zach made his his debut for Blumenthal this weekend and decided to um score another goal of the decade contender and a hat trick on uh on debut.
- 1:40SPEAKER_04: So I mean we're we're maybe we're getting on it at Let's Stick Together.
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: It feels like professional, it feels like we're with the times.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: So I mean we're pretty lucky.
- 1:48SPEAKER_04: Zach, how uh uh thanks obviously for coming on.
- 1:51SPEAKER_04: First of all, um the big question, do you listen?
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: Be honest.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: I wanna I want to say no, but um I feel I'm a little bit of a secret listener.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: I'll uh I would never I would never admit it to you, Phil.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: Um but no, listen, I uh I do I do tune in every now and again when I when I see the clips that you post, and I I think yeah, I might might fancy uh fancy seeing what they've said on this episode, I'll give it uh a little listen on my drive back.
- 2:20SPEAKER_04: And to be fair, we're nice enough to you.
- 2:22SPEAKER_04: So I mean, you know, you gotta you gotta help us out when we're nice to you, and you've been way too nice to you to be honest with you.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: I'm glad he's I'm glad he's gonna called you a midget last week last week.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: So you how do you feel right now?
- 2:34SPEAKER_04: You got Zach on.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm I gotta be honest, it doesn't happen too often, but I'm a bit uh a bit overwhelmed.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: I'm a bit baffled by it.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I didn't really expect.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: I thought since when since when did Brendan become so ugly?
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: But it was sex.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: No, no, I'm happy I'm happy he's here.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: I'm happy that now we now we at least have someone who's quite decent at hockey uh on the podcast and not uh us three fuck up.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: So uh it's it it brings it brings up the level of uh quality on the on the podcast.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: And I've got to do a proper intro because we've done it for all the other guests.
- 3:10SPEAKER_04: I mean, if anyone doesn't again know Zach Wallace is um he's evolved into one of the world's best hockey players, he's played for Serbiton, then HGC for a couple of years, and now for for Blumenthal.
- 3:24SPEAKER_04: Um you have been nominated for World Young Player of the Year.
- 3:29SPEAKER_04: Uh we just come back from winning a European silver.
- 3:32SPEAKER_04: I'm sure you pool have a dig at that.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: But I mean we're we're privileged to have you have you on.
- 3:38SPEAKER_04: Um so first of all, I've got to ask, you scored a hat-trick this weekend, and I I've I've you know, have you ever scored a senior hat-trick before?
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: I would say thank you very much, Phil.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: That was very kind of you.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: I uh I don't really know what to say, and I feel quite awkward sat here after you've just introduced me like that.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: Um no, I've not, and I did say to them after the match, I was like, this is probably all my goals for the season in one.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Um so I've uh yeah, I think I've uh I think I've I've ruined it now because they are they're just expecting that.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: I think that's the problem now.
- 4:16SPEAKER_04: You've set an immeasurable standard to live by now, exactly, which I just cannot do.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: But no, but you're you're okay.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: I I think you can you can you can deal with it.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I mean if someone calls you the Michael Jordan of hockey, the the standard is already set pretty high, and you're you're handling it quite okay the last couple of years.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I can't believe you brought it up already.
- 4:34SPEAKER_04: For anyone who doesn't know about that, Amesy Ames completely screwed Zach over by referencing him as Michael Jordan.
- 4:42SPEAKER_04: And I mean that is you've got screw Amesy for that, hey.
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: That's pretty tough.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean what what what can I do now?
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: I've now fucked whatever I do.
- 4:54SPEAKER_04: And again, like you you have now scored, I guess in this in this calendar year, you've scored two goals that would questionably questionably be like goals of the year, goals of the decade.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: Like, if anyone hasn't seen them, go on to HC Blumentale's Instagram, go on to pretty much any hockey instagram, I'm sure they've probably reposted it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: We repost it.
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: Like, you scored so two volleys, the first one in New Zealand earlier in the year in pro league where you hit like a reverse stick just out of nowhere for no apparent reason.
- 5:24SPEAKER_04: Didn't seem like a reason reasonable thing to do, but you just decided to tank a reverse stick mid-air when Sanford chucked a shit aerial at you, and then this time you get a diagonal aerial across the day.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: And I was watching it and I got off the pitch when we played, and I was like, have you seen this goal?
- 5:40SPEAKER_04: I was like, what what what what goes through your head?
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: Why do you think to even hit that?
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: Um I think not much goes through my head.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: I think that's probably the secret.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: I think if I thought about it, I would I would not be trying to shoot.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: No, I think I uh I always think up crazy things in my head.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: I'm always thinking like how can I score uh some ridiculous goal?
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Um and I'm always like yeah, thinking like what what sort of things can I do?
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: Um like when when the balls come in and yeah, all sort all sorts of different ideas.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: I've got a lot of ideas that they haven't actually uh happened yet, so I'm hoping they will at some point, but yeah, I don't know, maybe not not thinking too much is the trick.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: You have you ever scored a goal like that in training?
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: Anything?
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: No, I don't score too often, Phil.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I'm a defender, as you remember.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: I don't really enter I have uh in in Dutch we call it circle phrase.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: So when I enter the D I kinda panic a bit, like it so I don't think shit like that would come up with me.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: It it does seem like the perfect, like it's the like the dream assist from Jasper Bringman.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Like I think every striker on midfielder's dreams to get a ball like this, and it would it would either end up like uh back at your odd club in Hages, the ball, or it would end up like this.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Like there were there was nothing in between there.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: It would have been the sickest goal ever, or it would like be be be be a 300 yard drive down the middle, like it those people.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: I think I was ending up on Instagram either way.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: I was like 12 either.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: Either one of the worst debuts you've seen or one of the best.
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: And how's it how's it been at Bloomendale?
- 7:28SPEAKER_04: How's your first few weeks been settling in?
- 7:30SPEAKER_04: Uh we we you often abuses the fact that you you got called the icing on the cake last week, because there's obviously an abundance of just world-class players there.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: How's it been to go in and train with them and play with them?
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is pretty ridiculous.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: Uh the level is Yes, like like you said, there's so many good players, like you're just looking around and there's quality everywhere.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: But no, I feel uh I feel pretty at home there so far.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Like it's only been three weeks, but yeah, I've settled in.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: Um I like the guys, I like the team getting on with them.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: The only thing is when they're all sitting around at dinner chatting and joking, and I've got no idea what's being said, but that's uh so I'm just sat there, like they'll be they'll be cracking a joke, and they're all laughing, and I'm just I'm just laughing.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: And I've got no idea what's being said, but I'm just going with it.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: Um but no, I'm enjoying myself.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do think I do think the the cool thing about about Blumendau, I give Blumenau quite a lot of shit, but it's mostly out of like jealousy and envy, and not really because I really hate Blumendau, because I really like the club, and especially the people there.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: I think the special thing what they what they have, and Zach can either confirm or like call bullshit on me, but they do feel like even though they're like one of the most successful, maybe the most successful club in Holland, uh especially in the last decade, they do feel like really uh down to earth and like really uh easy going.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: So I mean like I mean uh Glen Schumann and Wool Boven, yeah, you're not playing with them anymore, but they kind of set the culture there, and it does really seem like really easygoing and it's easy to fit in, and it's like a group of friends.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: It's that's what it seems like from the outside.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: And I know quite a few guys uh pretty well, but that seems that comes off as the vibe when you play against them or when you're with them.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: No, genuinely it is.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Um like the the vibe around training, it's all one I thought it was gonna be like so intense, like people like dead serious all the time, but it's like people joking around, it's very chilled out at training, like people just having a laugh.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like you said, off the pitch as well.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: It seems like everyone's just like good friends.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: Like I'll just be chilling in the house.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: I'm living in like a in a clubhouse there, but it seems like it's like the social house.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: So I'll just I think everyone in the team has a key.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: So I'll just I'll wake up from bed and I'll walk into the living room and there's just people from my team just sat there, and I'm like, ah, hey hey guys, how are we doing?
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Are you living in the comast?
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, in the camera.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: So it's uh yeah, so it's a good house, it's good fun.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, people are just turning up left, right, and centre.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: But it's uh no, it's a good vibe.
- 9:57SPEAKER_04: Awesome.
- 9:57SPEAKER_04: And I've got to put you on the spot.
- 9:59SPEAKER_04: Um like who's the who's been like the one who's like been really really good or stood out to you when you've been training with them the last few weeks?
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Anyone or like uh I think I think it's hard because you know they're all good before.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: Like I've not it's not like uh I've turned up somewhere where I've not known the player and I've gone like ah fuck I didn't know you were good at hockey.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: Like I'm gonna sit here and say Arthur Van Doren is a pretty good player.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: As if no one knew that before.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: Um they're so good.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: I tell you, like, Voltabor's when he turn when he can turn it on, when he's uh when he's feeling in the mood, he's a seriously talented player.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: Um and I've really I've really enjoyed playing with um Dennis Varmadam.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I like I like him, I like his movement as a striker, so for me like trying to find him with some passes has been good, which is maybe something I wasn't so sure whether that would be the case, but yeah, like I said, like there's it's not like I was turning up thinking, yeah, these guys are gonna be could be some average players here.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: Like it's not really it's not really taking me by surprise.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: That is it's uh it's pretty awesome to hear.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: And what was the what was the word you used, youp, to describe a defender panicking?
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's it's circle flace.
- 11:21SPEAKER_04: Because Zach sat next to the the the king of the circle flace.
- 11:26SPEAKER_04: Paniker himself.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: It's like circle panic, is when you see the circle when you see the circle, um you instantly panic.
- 11:35SPEAKER_04: You've been quiet, very quiet, Brendan.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: Do you want to join in at all or do you just do you just fancy sitting up?
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: I'm full well aware that I'm getting abused despite not even being on right now, and I'm still getting abused.
- 11:48SPEAKER_04: And what did you lastly, Zach?
- 11:50SPEAKER_04: Gotta ask you some serious questions.
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: Um so when Yup gave you shit, did you listen to that last week?
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: Um I've listened to the clip now with Brendan before being brought onto this podcast.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: And what do you think of it?
- 12:07SPEAKER_04: Is it because you listened that you felt like you know, it was my my theory was because you listen to the podcast on the down on the down low that you feel like you know you better than you do, so you just thought you'd give him some stick.
- 12:18SPEAKER_04: And maybe is it a shit or hit?
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, maybe.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: You know, when you think you know someone because you've you've just heard them speak a lot and you're like, Yeah, me and me and him, we get on quite well.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: No, like no, I thought me and me and you we've uh exchanged some DMs a couple of times.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: But I thought we would I thought we were I thought we were boys like that, and I thought everything was I thought it was all fair.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we were.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: I was just a bit baffled because I didn't expect I didn't expect us to be on that level yet.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: But it's good to know.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: It's good to know.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, fair.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: No, I think no, I can see how it came across, but I didn't mean it as an insult.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Like he was a beautiful man.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Now it now is where you're taking the piss with me.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Also, the whole moment, like the whole moment made me like I was playing a game, I was kind of tuning out, and and as as I said, I said hello to other, and then like it was like in my out of my like in my death, what what are you in industry do you hook?
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Like it came like right out of nowhere.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: It was like that's the moment of surprise is what got me as well.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: I didn't expect it was like friendly chatter, friendly chat.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh yeah, hello, uh new clip, oh what the fuck you just came to do about face and I gave to be fair, I gave you a lot of credit for the joke as well, because that's the part that that always like leave out.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: I can appreciate a good joke, and especially when it's uh on behalf of someone or when it's like uh about someone.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: So Brendan knows.
- 13:52SPEAKER_04: And it's it's very English humor.
- 13:54SPEAKER_04: Sometimes Dutchies don't take it that well.
- 13:56SPEAKER_04: You know, it's a form of it's the greatest form of flattery, abuse, really, isn't it?
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, conditions should also be uh take it.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: So it is a it's deep down, it's a compliment to to to give out abuse.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: I mean it's a sign of respect.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: It's a sign of it never was a compliment.
- 14:14SPEAKER_04: Never come on you know who I feel most sorry for in this situation, it's Ty Spams because he's getting compared to you.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Okay, fuck you for four guys.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: Sorry, Tys.
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: And on that note, Zach, mate, thanks so much for dropping in.
- 14:34SPEAKER_04: It's been awesome.
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: Like, I mean, hopefully we might be able to get a full episode with you.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: I know you requested 10 minutes with us.
- 14:40SPEAKER_04: Um hopefully that's been enough.
- 14:41SPEAKER_04: We've got to get the other lanky man in.
- 14:43SPEAKER_04: But thank you, mate.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: Right, boys, it's been a pleasure, and uh it's been an honour as well.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: So thank you for having me.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Appreciate it.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Adios, Brendan, you're back.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: Hello, hello.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: You've been subbed back in.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: I've been subbed back in.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: I've been I feel like I've been transferred fair few times now over the course of the last few seasons.
- 15:06SPEAKER_04: It's your own choice.
- 15:07SPEAKER_04: I said to you, come and get involved, and you said no, no, I'm gonna let you have it.
- 15:10SPEAKER_03: I'll be honest, I think four's too many, whereas I feel you guys can properly go back at each other, so I think it works better.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 15:17SPEAKER_04: Okay, well, this is I guess the main brunt of the episode.
- 15:22SPEAKER_04: Um, first of all, how did we get on this weekend?
- 15:27SPEAKER_04: You first classic game.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: We got on really well.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Uh at first I thought, oh fuck, here we go again.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: We can we came 2-0 down to the boss, uh, which is like always a tough away game.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: They're like the they're like a really tough team.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: I don't they're like not they're usually not the team who makes playoffs, but they're always the team who makes sure others uh others don't.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: Although they've they've played playoffs uh more than we did in the last five years, so that's not really a good comment for me, but hey.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Sorsby went there, Kunbaya is there, Jasper Tukus is there, they have like a lot of quality players.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Um we came down 2-0 at half, and it was at their place, and I think we we we didn't win there for the last six years or something.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Um 2-0 down at halftime.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: We're like, oh fuck.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: We actually had quite a few chances in the first half or didn't really convert.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: And then all of a sudden, I don't know what happened at halftime.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Um what we got out of the halftime, and eight minutes uh into the third quarter, it was 3-2 for us.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: So we had like a bit of a remontada, like a bit of a comeback, um, and held on to the lead.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: So uh it was a good a good Sunday.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: I was really really happy because at halftime I thought, oh, it's gonna be this year again, and after the season, we'll think, oh you remember that game at the boss?
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, and now we're fifth again.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: So now we I feel like uh this is like what we need.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: We need we need like a win, a tough away game to start the season.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm full of confidence, like I'm uh like I usually am, but now also like it's it's validated.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: So um yeah, and also um you you Tymon Ryan scored the winning goal, and it was the most ridiculous winning goal because he s he like did a run down the baseline, he cut it back.
- 17:19SPEAKER_04: I think it like somehow then bounced back to him.
- 17:22SPEAKER_04: He stood there with with the stick in one hand, which is pretty stupid anyway, but then he just out of nowhere just kind of bats at the ball with with his right hand and then doesn't seem to realise that he scored, and then has a delay, and then he realized that he's just scored, and then he runs off.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was a it was it was a weird game as well, because it we we came down one nil and they didn't really have chances up until then, but they we got down one nil.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Um like a bit of a bit of actually a good goal from them.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Then we got a corner, and Timer actually scored the corner.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Um again, I wanted to save it for shit or hit, but I just I can't keep myself.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: The refs are just taking the fucking piss again.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: He actually he did he did it.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: I I gotta give him some credit.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: He he actually did they did a good job during the game.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: They had a solid game, and not not many weird decisions or anything.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: But I'm fucking allergic to when they whistle when they like whistle for something that's not there.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: Like I can imagine if you think if you think uh hit on the stick is a corner or not.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Like I sometimes that's up for debate.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: But if you if you don't you cannot see something that's not there, he said, yeah, we both saw it on a foot.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: It didn't fucking hit a foot.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: So you're just pretty you're just gambling.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: He's just guessing.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it came off something, so it must be a foot.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: No, you didn't fucking see a foot because it wasn't there.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah?
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: So then actually it was 1-1.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: We were all cheering, and then the guy, the guy thought he saw a foot, and he f he completely fucked up, and then in the in the like the counter-attack they got, they scored a 2-0.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: But in the end, yeah, the goal of timer.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: Sorry, that's where you wanted to go.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he actually put his hand up for like uh because it hit a foot on his like on his like uh the ball he played back into the D hit a foot, so he put his hand up, he stood there, and then the ball came back to him.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: It's just like a tennis hit.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was a ridiculous goal, but three points, it's all you can get in a game.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: So I was gonna say Sam Sam Lane picking up where he left off as well.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's a fucking legend.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: He's a fucking legend.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: I fucking love him.
- 19:36SPEAKER_04: That's a great yeah, fair.
- 19:37SPEAKER_04: You can't do any better than that.
- 19:38SPEAKER_04: We'll leave that there.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: Sam Lane, you're a legend.
- 19:41SPEAKER_04: Brendan, uh, you actually had a early top-of-the-table clash against the OGs.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: Um OGs were unbeaten the whole of last year.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: Um and I don't want to give the game away.
- 19:52SPEAKER_04: You actually gonna tell people what happened this week or just tell everyone they got five drag flickers?
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, a genuinely really good game.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, we went uh 3-0 up, uh and then kind of with like 20 minutes to go, it kind of was a bit more very much dogged defensive display from us, which is very unlike us as well, um, to basically hold out for the win.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: Um they were missing two or three, but actually on the balance of the game, I think it was fair to be honest.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: I think we actually played really well.
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: Um, and as you say, that's a it's a big result because it kind of just sets up the league a bit more.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: OGs ran away with it last year and kind of it just keeps the league a lot more exciting this year for the first half of the season.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: So actually, from from like a league point of view, it's great.
- 20:37SPEAKER_03: Um but also from like us as well, beating OGs, I think, is also really good as well.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: So like obviously season's not no way they're done two games in, but a great start, which is actually really positive, which is buzzing about.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: Nice and the mighty Orcomfield, what happened?
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: The Incredi Holes.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: We played we played um South Gate Away uh on Saturday evening as well, and uh we won 5-2.
- 21:06SPEAKER_04: It was uh it was it was pretty good.
- 21:09SPEAKER_04: I mean we we kind of dominated them for the m the majority of the team.
- 21:14SPEAKER_04: I I I'll just pick up where I left off last week.
- 21:16SPEAKER_04: I really like our team.
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: We seem to have gelled really really uh well with our new signings and um yeah, had uh like I'm not gonna lie, I absolutely loved the game.
- 21:26SPEAKER_04: It was one of them games where it was kind of open.
- 21:29SPEAKER_04: We we had a lot of uh like a lot of really fun attacks.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: Kind of had I had my own personal fuck it button on, so that normally means I play well.
- 21:40SPEAKER_04: Um and yeah, got got fully involved.
- 21:43SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, it was good as well because we were playing out against our G B assistant coach who's the who's the um the player coach of Southgate and uh he's been giving some shit out all summer so I had a little black mark next to his name, so always gets me a little bit more motivated.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: And um You said well from from all accounts, Southgate away is one of the best games to play in from from what we've got.
- 22:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean I was gonna I was gonna bring this up next because they have basically done a big shout out to Southgate, like absolutely loved Saturday night for a few reasons.
- 22:14SPEAKER_04: First of all, um they've started to I think copy like they do a mini Dutch model.
- 22:21SPEAKER_04: I reckon they just copy a lot of what what is good about going abroad to play hockey and especially going to Holland.
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: So like just uh they have a they have a if anyone hasn't been to Southgate, they've got two water bases and one is like uh the clubhouse is overlooking one of them.
- 22:37SPEAKER_04: And basically we did like a run out, so we did lineups, there was music pre-game, there was an announcer that was a pretty pretty nice crowd, they did um a half-time like game so that people could stay interested, and uh they had really good food afterwards.
- 22:56SPEAKER_04: They had uh Man of the Matches, like little awards at the end, and all of this stuff was like wow, this this is awesome to be a part of because obviously you this might just come as normal to you, but like for us, it's a bit of a rarity to actually get what feels like you know you're warming up and you're seeing lots of people around, everyone's having a beer, everyone's having fun, um, the crowd got into it, giving everyone some shit.
- 23:20SPEAKER_04: Um Tom Russell decided uh when he scored the first goal after three minutes to to like tell the crowd to pipe down and shush them.
- 23:28SPEAKER_04: It was absolutely amazing.
- 23:30SPEAKER_04: Um and I was gonna ask you both.
- 23:33SPEAKER_04: Like I was I was come away with it being like I've had such a fucking great time.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: Like, but is this is can this be replicated elsewhere?
- 23:43SPEAKER_04: It do you need obviously you need passionate people, but is it hard to do?
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: I don't yeah, I don't I don't really know.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Um but what's interesting is the fact that they're the first ones really in the UK to do it and commit to it.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: I think they commit tried to commit to it last year, obviously being but being the league below it wasn't necessarily as on display, whereas now obviously being in the top league, I think it's only going to encourage people to do it themselves, if that makes sense.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: Um so I think I I don't know is the answer.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you need more money or what it is, but whatever it is, it seems to be working at their place for sure.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't think money is like the big issue to be honest.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: I just think you need some good volunteers.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: I think that's the only thing standing in the way of doing it because it doesn't like the the the if I I do think a good uh accommodation helps.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Like if you have as you said, if you have like a a bit of an audience or a bit of like a like a stand or anything to which it feels like it's more uh intimate, if you know what I mean.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Um that helps, but I do think if if it's it's it's just about volunteers, if you have someone who's like enthusiastic and is like wants to like be like an announcer and hype hype it up a bit, and I think that's that's the main difference in it.
- 24:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think to be to be fair, I think also having a clubhouse that overlooks the pitch, like kampong, like OR, like that kind of feel I think's really cool as well, because I think it just gives like a proper it's so easy for so many different reasons, but it just gives like a bit almost having a bit of height overlooking the pitch, like almost has that stand feel as you says.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: Like that I think that makes such a difference to kind of like create an atmosphere as well, because it just looks it looks cooler as well.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Well what what they what they have in Holland what also helps because that's why at Kampong it's always busy.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Uh also because Kong has like a good a good first team and uh a lot of enthusiastic people there at the club.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: But like Kampong is like not a not a just a hockey club, there's also football there, and it's like the whole uh the whole club is like surrounded around sports.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: So like a lot of the times the football people um also come and watch the football people, the the the the football players or the people who play football there, they always come and watch the game, so it brings out extra uh an extra audience, and also what you said uh uh when the weather is good, that the sun is out, and you have like a terras or something that overlooks the field also really helps.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: It makes it feel busy when half of them is probably just drinking beer and thinks, oh there's a game there.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: It's like a convenient that there's that there's a hockey pitch next to the to the terras.
- 26:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_04: And like also I've just thought this is a this is a really good thing.
- 26:27SPEAKER_04: So uh just in our game, Amesy's our coach, and um he's he's like he's pretty well known as being like one of the one of the nicer guys on the circuit.
- 26:37SPEAKER_04: But I was stood to getting ready to be subbed on in like the second half, it might have been, and um one of their guys was just like giving like like claiming uh fouls or like something saying it's a corner from like 50 yards away, and um Amesy just is like stood next to me and he's just like down the bench, he's like oi, oi, oi, and the guy looks around, he's like shut the fuck up.
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: And the guy has to like double take being like, Well, is Amesy just told me to shut the fuck up?
- 27:09SPEAKER_04: And I was like, Fuck, that's brilliant.
- 27:11SPEAKER_04: On the way back, I was like, Why'd you do that?
- 27:12SPEAKER_04: And he was like, Sometimes I gotta be more of a fucker.
- 27:20SPEAKER_04: I was like absolutely buzzing about it.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: I was so good, that was so good.
- 27:25SPEAKER_04: I also lastly, I don't want to toot my own horn, but I hit the pass of my life and um band has messed it up for me.
- 27:34SPEAKER_04: You know, where like in um in basketball, when you hit like a hell of a hell of an assist and you need the guy to hit the three or make the dunk, yeah.
- 27:43SPEAKER_04: He I mean he he obvious he still scored two and I still still helped him out a couple of times, but this was one of them eye of a needle reverse sticks over like 45-50 yards, and he trapped it too well on the in the D, and then it gave the opposition time to get back and like and tackle him.
- 28:01SPEAKER_04: And I was a bit grumpy with him for that afterwards.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: So I'm not a bit feeling.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he probably had it quite a few times with you, Phil.
- 28:09SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, 100%.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: No, I've I've heard it last European Cub.
- 28:14SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, good point.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, good point, yeah, good point.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Bottle job, good point, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:18SPEAKER_04: You've just got you've just brought up Creedy's block again, that's devastating.
- 28:22SPEAKER_04: That's block 114 followers.
- 28:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, on to the next thing.
- 28:28SPEAKER_04: 148 to be exact.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: Grow up.
- 28:32SPEAKER_04: This does move us on, right?
- 28:33SPEAKER_04: And and again, um sorry you that it's a little bit English league heavy, but I wanted to actually give some a little bit of love out because randomly this year, I don't know what's happened.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: I don't know if if England hockey have been onto clubs or clubs have just suddenly stepped up, but there's so many hockey clubs out there that have took a step up in social media and live streams and you know, like really trying to promote hockey and their games.
- 28:57SPEAKER_04: Even the smaller teams I've I've seen like my home club now do it where which you know they're they're they're a really small club, but they post every single week saying who the lineups are for the home games and who's playing, and put a put a um an image out there, and then also like there's there's like at least four now Premier League teams who do a live stream.
- 29:20SPEAKER_04: So I know that Cardiff do one, Southgate did one, which was also in the bar.
- 29:24SPEAKER_04: So if you were getting a drink, you could watch the game from in the bar, which I thought was really cool.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: That's cool.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: Uh Serban now do one and Beaston do one.
- 29:31SPEAKER_04: Like, there seems like there's just been a step up.
- 29:33SPEAKER_04: People have suddenly cottoned on that if you have a good social media presence, if you make more of an effort with the live stream, you can you can really like grow the game and actually increase the product of what what English hockey is.
- 29:45SPEAKER_04: And actually, before you jump in, Fiona Dothwaite got in Dothwaite, Dalthwaite.
- 29:50SPEAKER_04: Douthwaite, who she said to us, good swearing, uh, first of all, which I don't know what to do with that, but fair enough.
- 29:57SPEAKER_04: Like, keep swearing.
- 29:58SPEAKER_04: Um but her son Matt could watch his sister play all the way from the pole um over the last couple of weeks because of the servant live stream, and apparently that's like a really really obviously like a really cool thing that that he could tune in and still feel a piece of home, I guess.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: I think it's really I think it's really cool.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: Like obviously, you guys have had it for a while out in Holland and that stuff via with via via play and everything else, but like for us is thinking it's it's a it's a huge step in the right direction.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: Um, and it and the only way it's gonna get better is if people commit to it.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: Similar to the Southgate stuff, like the more people commit to it, the better opportunity we create for ourselves, whether it's through social media and sponsors and things like that, or whether it's just kind of raising the profile of the game to kind of get people a bit more involved.
- 30:42SPEAKER_03: I think it's a really cool step.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't really have anything to add.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: I think um you got you guys are doing a good job in England.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: Well done, you how you've been positive, mate.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm I'm trying to be a bit more um yeah, uplifting and positive to to my English friends out there.
- 31:04SPEAKER_04: And I do want to ask to the listeners out there, like what would I try to be serious again?
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: What would actually make you turn up for more of the like women's ones and men's ones like games?
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: Like, is it what we talked about with the the setup with what Southgate are doing?
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: Is there anything we're missing?
- 31:22SPEAKER_04: Like what would actually make you want to turn up?
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: I I have got one genuine thing that I think would make a huge difference and like seeing clubs from like Belgium, Germany, Holland, like quality of food available for fans, I think is such a big thing.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: I think that like we underestimate how much people will go and search for food, whether it's like delivery or this, that, and the other, or if they'll just go home because they they can get proper meal or something.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: Like, I know obviously you guys have got chips and mayo like out in Holland in terms of like that can be accessed so easily.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: But like look at him, nibbling a sweeping generalization.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: But like for me for me, like genuinely like at a serious point, like I'm sorry, I was trying to pick a true the serious point that access to like actual decent food makes a huge difference, and quite a lot of clubs abroad have got an attachment to like a restaurant or like basically a decent bistro or something where they can actually offer it, whereas in the UK there's not as much, and I think the more we can tap into that, I think it'll make a huge difference for people sticking around the clubs for longer.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I also think that the the level is pretty important.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: I think if there's if if I don't really know about the food, to be honest, Brendan.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: I I I kinda get it, but I also kind of don't.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: Like if you want good food, go to a fucking restaurant.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Why would you go to a hockey club?
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: Go to a hockey club to watch a hockey game, not to have food.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: You're so simple again.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: Why have you suddenly just got miserable?
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: I'm not miserable.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: I just don't have to agree with every fucking thing you say.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: If you want nice food, go to a fucking restaurant.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: It's not that hard.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: If you want to watch a good hockey game, go to a go to a nice club that hasn't good hockey players on the field.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: That's where you need to look at.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: And then again, I think you're right.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: You know what's you know what would be a game changer in England?
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: Bitterballs.
- 33:14SPEAKER_04: What they no one knows what they are snacks.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: It's like easy snacks.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: They got you deep fry them and you have like a couple of good ones.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: You deep fry them, you get them, you drink a beer, and you have a bitter ball.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: Look it up.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: It's like a like a it's like the size of a testicle, but then in breadcrumbs and in deep fried.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: It's fucking tasty.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: You've sold it to me.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think no, honestly, Phil, you know them.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: You've had a couple of them in your mouth, right?
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: Phil likes them when they're really fried, yeah.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Phil, you come on, help me out.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean, right?
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: I just did Phil on testicles as classics.
- 33:54SPEAKER_04: I really I really want to be there to to um back you up, but I really didn't like beer balls.
- 34:01SPEAKER_04: Oh no, I like the sausage roll things.
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the sausage rolls.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: You have like a lot, you have like a lot, you have a lot of variations to it, but like you need something easy to to like eat next to the game, like that's that's like uh low maintenance, just put it in a deep fry, put some mayonnaise on it, and chug it in your mouth.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Have a couple beers.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: I think they're on something there.
- 34:26SPEAKER_04: I actually really agree.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: And like basically you've just you've just enhanced Brendan's point.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Brendan Brendan wants like a Michelin star restaurant on the hockey, like on the hockey turf.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: Just keep it simple, Brendan.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: Uh keep it on the down low.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: Bitterballs.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Look it up, England.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: These biscuits are bitter balls.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah, okay.
- 34:47SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Well, I think we've we fixed it.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: Um I've got a couple of bits of news.
- 34:53SPEAKER_04: First of all, um that Asia Asian Games is uh currently starting, and all the hockey teams are trying to play for their the Olympic qualification spot.
- 35:03SPEAKER_04: Um was a bit of a joke when I saw on the news that the Indian men's hockey team begun their campaign with a 16-nil win over Uzbekistan.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: Sorry?
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: Began.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: You're looking for Began.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: Began.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: Sorry, sorry, I'm I'm I'm reading off a sheet, I did that wrong.
- 35:21SPEAKER_04: 16-0.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: Decent.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I bring down the hockey fives.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Oh fuck, I thought you said Pakistan, but now I read it, it's Uzbekistan.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: Oh fuck me, 60 nil.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Will the Chinese women beat Indonesia today 20 nil?
- 35:39SPEAKER_04: It just seems bloody stupid.
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: What are they doing?
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: Waste of time.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: Waste of time.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: Get six teams, decent teams, and just let them have a knockout.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: Who wins?
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, maybe Uzbekistan should sign up for hooky fives.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: Like those pots.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: Seems like they would feel it right away.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Hey, you're shit with 11.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Hey, come be even more shit with five with us.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: We don't give a shit about level.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: They start meeting team who get the get on the pitch.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: We need everyone we can.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: They need 100% get the bus for 60 hours.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: They're a bus team.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: They're a bus team.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: Shh, get them in.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: You're in Uzbekistan.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: We're having a game in South Africa.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: Let's bring your bus and we'll start driving now.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: You'll be there around this time when the World Cup starts.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Tell you what, that would be quite exciting.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: It'd be like a race between like them and Armenia.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: Just get in the buses, lads.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: Come on.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: Let's have a race.
- 36:27SPEAKER_04: That does hit me as when Australia started being Papua New Guinea 32-nil and stuff.
- 36:32SPEAKER_04: It's just like get rid of it, sort it out.
- 36:34SPEAKER_04: It's just a waste of time, man.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: You played Ghana in the Commonwealth games.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: Tough game, they were pretty good.
- 36:41SPEAKER_03: Tough game.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: Canada on the other hand.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: Wasn't that tough by the looks of it, but the Ghana game, tough.
- 36:50SPEAKER_04: Moving on.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: Pakistan were meant to be hosting one of the Olympic qualifying tournaments.
- 36:56SPEAKER_04: That's now been canned because of I think security risks.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: So the FIH are yet again decided to make a rash call and now they're on the back foot with less than like four months to go until the Olympic qualifying event, and they don't know where they're hosting one of the events.
- 37:12SPEAKER_04: So just New Zealand.
- 37:15SPEAKER_04: Say again.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: New Zealand wanted to host it, right?
- 37:19SPEAKER_04: Oh really?
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: I've I've heard New Zealand is trying to make it uh I think it for New Zealand it's also it's it's part part partly partially partly partly because uh it it will cost them less money than sending their team all over the world again.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: Um so I think that's why they want to do it.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: But I think the I think uh New Zealand is actually trying that would be a good pretty good upgrade uh upgrade from Lahore in Pakistan.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah yeah, yeah, I would 100% agree with you there.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: That is a huge upgrade.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: Imagine going to Pakistan and then playing there in front of like these crazy motherfuckers and then losing and they have to go home without without an Olympic ticket.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: Would be really shit.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: That would be like the worst.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: Hey mate, I played Olympic qualification against Pakistan and we drew the it was a two-game, we drew four four with an equalizer in the final minute.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: They're a but they're a tough bunch of fuckers, man.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: When push comes to shove, and when they're like uh when they're playing for uh for their country, mate, it's not a team you want to face, believe me.
- 38:21SPEAKER_04: No, I I've played Pakistan a few times and it's no fun at all.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and they're fucking scary to be honest.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: Like I I've I had two Pakistani teammates.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: Uh shout out to them, they're the best two guys I've ever met.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: This one, uh Mohammed and uh Rashid.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: Uh but uh like I love this one, he's like he's he's fucking amazing, but he's a scary fucker when you're on the field.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: We had like the this unwritten rule that when he wanted to hit the ball, you just let him hit it because he will hit it through you no matter what.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: He doesn't give a shit if you're on his team or not.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: He hits it, he like Kaiser Mehringbourg lost a couple teeth because he he he thought he could block it.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: So they're a scary bunch of fuckers, man.
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: We've had a few Pakistan internationals playing not our top league but the league below in England.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: Remember them rocking up at D-side, you're playing like a random club game for like our university team, and then you'd suddenly walk out, and there's like the under-21 captain, who we're pretty sure wasn't under-21 at the time, just rocked up and were like, Oh shit, oh he's here.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: Oh, cool, right, okay.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: Let's look out at yourself today.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: That was also always a cool thing, and maybe they're just earlier in their puberty, but like when I played World Cup, like I I I just started to get like like hair, hair on my balls, and and then this guy turns up with like a full-grown beard.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Uh like my my up like I don't don't get me wrong, it's not that impressive, but like my my thigh, like my upper leg, that was like his arm, and I was like, what the fuck?
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: This this guy can never be under 21, and it was like, yeah, 1st of January or 1st of the 31st of December 1995.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: Like, what were we kidding?
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: There was a the Indian captain, women's captain, had played four junior world cups over 12 year span.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: No, you're making this up.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: I can't.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: I mean deadly serious, deadly serious, mate.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: Deadly serious.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: I call bullshit.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: I will find those stats for you.
- 40:17SPEAKER_03: It's so funny.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: Secondly, I remember do you remember Raman Deep Singh?
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: I always thought when he turned up to under 21s, he had a like a bald spot.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: I swear he had like he had a tax job that he'd been working in for 25 years, and he had three kids.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: Like, he did not look 21.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: I I'm not sold on that one at all.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, ever.
- 40:38SPEAKER_04: Right, before you two get yourself into or all of us into trouble, I'm gonna move us on.
- 40:42SPEAKER_04: Um we're gonna move on to start bench sell.
- 40:45SPEAKER_04: So obviously, we had a quick game last week.
- 40:47SPEAKER_04: I've done a few more this week.
- 40:49SPEAKER_04: Um so we want justifications and uh arguments, preferably.
- 40:55SPEAKER_04: The first one Hannah Martin, Lily Owsley, Ellie Raya, you for your example, they are English women's team players.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: And I I kinda figured that out.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: I gotta be completely and utterly honest.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: I know Hannah Martin.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: Kinda know Lily Owsley.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: No fucking clue Ellie uh Rayer is.
- 41:35SPEAKER_03: Okay, reasoning.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: Sorry?
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: What's your reasoning?
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: Reasoning?
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: The reason behind it.
- 41:47SPEAKER_04: Do you remember what you just said?
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Huh?
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: No, the reason behind it is that I know fuck all about this one.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: So I'm just going with my gut, and I feel like Ellie is gonna give me a win.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: Fair.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: Fair.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go start Hannah, bench Ellie Rare from an impact sub, sell Lily for cap space.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: I'm still working with this small club mentality, and I need to bring some money in.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: So I'm selling, so I'm selling.
- 42:16SPEAKER_04: Brendan, we're not doing this week by week.
- 42:18SPEAKER_04: We can't like we're not gonna build a team here.
- 42:21SPEAKER_04: I think you're fine, Phil.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: I'm two up at the moment.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: I'm making money for my company.
- 42:26SPEAKER_04: So you've sold me and Lily in the last two weeks.
- 42:28SPEAKER_03: What where's that going?
- 42:29SPEAKER_04: What was that?
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: Literally just raining cash all down on me.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: Absolutely beautiful.
- 42:33SPEAKER_03: I'm swimming in pound notes.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: Sorry, and just one one genuine question.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: Like, I I I I know Lily Owsley.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: She's like the she's she's she's like a midfielder, right?
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: Kind of low striker midfielder.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: Hannah Martin is a striker, I know.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: She's like she played at Hurley, even I think.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: Hurley?
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: I just is Ellie Ray, is she is she like new on the block or is she already there for a long time?
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: She hasn't played.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: No, okay.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: Then then hey uh Ellie, you're probably not listening, and you probably never will, but I'm sorry, this one's on me.
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: That's my bad.
- 43:10SPEAKER_04: Next one, Phil.
- 43:11SPEAKER_04: What are we on next?
- 43:12SPEAKER_04: Um we've got we're doing uh Frederica Matler, Sandavad, and Yibi Janssen.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: Excellent pronunciation, Phil.
- 43:23SPEAKER_04: I was very nervous.
- 43:24SPEAKER_04: I was looking at you both, and you knew what was coming, and I panicked.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: Philip, I'm proud of you.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: Um I'm going uh this is actually a tough one to be honest, because I think they're all three are like really really good.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: I for me the the the start is not not too tough.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: I'm always preaching that Xander Wat should have won uh World Player of the Year three times at least already.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: So for me, she's the the clear start.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: Like I think the penalty corner of Jebi Jansen gives her the edge over Matla.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: Like Matla scores a shit ton of goals, would be an incredible increase.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Impact striker because because of the the goals.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: But like Janse is just uh I think she's on the rise.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: I I think I'm going um Stark's on the rat, Benchy Beyoncer, sell Matla, final answer.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: And Brendan, remember your technique um for cap space here.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm I'm I'm gonna have to go a different route.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: I will be starting Devad.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: I will be benching Matla, and I will be selling Jansen because I need the cap space.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: She's young, international, she's a set piece specialist.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: The cash is again is just raining down on me.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: I'm taking that every day of the week.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: I'm cashing in now whilst it's hot on the market.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: I'm making money.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: I'm making bank for my team.
- 44:50SPEAKER_04: So I'll just go a different way just for shits and gigs.
- 44:53SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna start Matler because the team I'm building is a scary team, and I know she terrifies the shit out of every single other defence that she plays against.
- 45:04SPEAKER_04: She scares Maddie.
- 45:05SPEAKER_04: Maddie said it herself.
- 45:06SPEAKER_04: She admitted it.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: She did admit it, yeah.
- 45:08SPEAKER_04: She hits the ball harder than anyone else, she knows where the goal is, and she drag flicks, so she gets the starting.
- 45:14SPEAKER_04: Um then yeah, I mean I also think Xandervardi is the best player, but I'm gonna sell her because just because Project Rebuild.
- 45:24SPEAKER_04: I want Jansen to come on off the bench so she can replace Matler as the flicker.
- 45:29SPEAKER_04: I think my justification is the best there, so well done me.
- 45:32SPEAKER_04: I win that one.
- 45:33SPEAKER_04: Well done.
- 45:33SPEAKER_04: One point to fill.
- 45:35SPEAKER_04: Um the next one.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: So you so you won the first one.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: Um fume and I didn't.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: You've won the second one, so at the moment, okay.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: Okay, next one.
- 45:44SPEAKER_04: We'll do one more.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: Um joke.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: Absolute joke.
- 45:50SPEAKER_04: Jeremy Haywood, Gonzalo Payat, Alex Hendricks.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: This is tough.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: This is tough.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: Because I want to sell the Aussie because he's Aussie.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: But I'm not sure I can take Payat having changed allegiances.
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure I can have him.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's alright then.
- 46:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, there you go.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: You you good luck.
- 46:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm thinking.
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: It doesn't happen too often.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I'm thinking.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: I think like if I'm going if we're going pure penalty corner-wise, I think you have to go ahead and start Hendrix.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: But I I do think Hayward is the best hockey player out of the three, like sheer hockey.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: Um I'm selling Payothe.
- 46:43SPEAKER_00: He's out.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: He left his country to play for Germany.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: Like, that's that's a no-go for me.
- 46:51SPEAKER_04: That's quite personal.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's dangerous what you're saying.
- 46:55SPEAKER_00: Hey, don't get me wrong, he became a world champion, he made the right choice, and if I don't know all the shit that went behind it, that that you have to play for another country, so I'm not gonna judge by it.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: But uh, I don't think I could ever play for another country.
- 47:08SPEAKER_00: Maybe England, but we'll leave that up for for some other time.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: Um I'm going uh start Hendrix, bench Hayward, sell payatt.
- 47:19SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna flip Hayward and Hendrix around for the exact reasons that you said, because I think Hayward is a better hockey player.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: Hendrix on the bench, but I'm selling Payat as well because he goes for money, doesn't he?
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: As well.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: So again, just creating more cap space.
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: It's smart, it's smart business.
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: You're an idiot.
- 47:40SPEAKER_04: Um I'm gonna start Hendrix.
- 47:42SPEAKER_04: I actually think he's the best hockey player out of the three of them.
- 47:45SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm putting Payat off the bench, and just I'm gonna go with Brendan.
- 47:51SPEAKER_04: He's Australian, so I'm selling him.
- 47:52SPEAKER_04: Hey, what's out?
- 47:56SPEAKER_04: I've got I've got to carry on.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: If you're gonna go hard, stay with it.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: We're on season five.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: That's what she said.
- 48:02SPEAKER_04: So who wins that one?
- 48:04SPEAKER_04: Um How can you fucking win this thing?
- 48:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I won that one again.
- 48:15SPEAKER_04: Right, we're gonna finish off with some shit or hits.
- 48:18SPEAKER_04: Um okay.
- 48:19SPEAKER_04: Can I start again just because we're on a roll?
- 48:22SPEAKER_04: Um uh the FIH collaborating with uh Christopher Ruhr, shit or hit.
- 48:28SPEAKER_04: Sorry, what the FIH have recently collaborated on at least six posts with Christopher Ruhr uh for him winning some German sports scholar award.
- 48:38SPEAKER_04: Um shit or hit shit.
- 48:41SPEAKER_04: Why shit why?
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: Because he still hasn't got his ban from the World Cup, it's fucking shambles.
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: I'll be honest with you, FIH are bottle jobs.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: That's the reason.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: Just bottle jobs.
- 48:52SPEAKER_03: I'm sick of it.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: I'm sick of them being bottle jobs.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: Why, Brendan?
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: Elaborate.
- 48:57SPEAKER_03: Spitting, one match ban, uh, elbowing someone in the face off the ball.
- 49:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, that was an apology message in the evening, no ban.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: Just shambles.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: What is the point?
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, sorry.
- 49:12SPEAKER_03: Red card at Commonwealth Games for getting someone in by the throat.
- 49:17SPEAKER_03: Again, an apology in the evening.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: No, it's just a shambles.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: I'm sick of it.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: Why not?
- 49:23SPEAKER_03: Next thing you know, it's gonna be a stabbing on the pitch.
- 49:25SPEAKER_03: Uh, one match ban.
- 49:26SPEAKER_03: He had a good history.
- 49:27SPEAKER_03: It's just a joke, mate.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: It's just an absolute joke.
- 49:31SPEAKER_04: Do you know this started with me asking about an Instagram collaboration?
- 49:34SPEAKER_04: But yes.
- 49:35SPEAKER_04: Yes, and I said shit, Phil.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so my instinct my instinct always says to go against what Brendan is saying.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: So I want to say hit, but I do think it's kind of shitty.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: It's like not a complete shit, because he if if they're collaborating with him, he's probably done something nice.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: Like it's it's is he he he he finished the scholar?
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: And it's more more than I ever did with school.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: So hey, uh Christopher, maybe uh it's good that you're turning your life around as a villain and you're trying to become a better person.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Um I think it's a hit.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna support you.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: 2023 is more uplifting.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: Lift everybody, come on, we're uplifting.
- 50:21SPEAKER_04: If that's not an Instagram reel, Ben, I don't know what it is.
- 50:24SPEAKER_04: I I I obviously put this in because I thought it was shit.
- 50:28SPEAKER_04: I just don't understand what FIH are doing with their time if they're deciding to try and support one of the athletes who wants to become a sports scholar.
- 50:36SPEAKER_04: I don't even know what that means.
- 50:37SPEAKER_04: He's got to win the Sports Scholar of the Year award, and they're they're collaborating to get him likes and love.
- 50:43SPEAKER_04: Like, what is there nothing better you can do with your time?
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: Nah, I don't need to decide uh Olympic um Olympic qualification venue.
- 50:52SPEAKER_03: No, I've been that off.
- 50:53SPEAKER_03: Big lad needs some likes on Instagram.
- 50:55SPEAKER_03: Get it out there.
- 50:58SPEAKER_04: It's nothing against him.
- 50:59SPEAKER_04: I just thought it was really weird.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: No, I agree, it's so weird.
- 51:03SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: Um one of one of uh my friends uh put this to me today.
- 51:10SPEAKER_04: She played in her first league game this this week and she was scoring, she was just about to score, and she hit the ball uh through the keeper and it was going to trickle in, and there was one of her other forwards was on the back post.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: So to stop her touching it, she yelled, leave it as the ball was going in.
- 51:30SPEAKER_04: To me, that's a hit, but I'm sure to many people that's a shit.
- 51:33SPEAKER_03: I I'm all for it.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: I fucking love it.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do also really appreciate like the striker who touches the ball right before it goes in, still decides to touch it, and then put his hand up like it was Michael.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: Like it's so shit that it's a hit, you know what I mean?
- 51:53SPEAKER_00: That's like the worst thing you can do, but that makes it like incredibly a hit.
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: Just own it.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: I also own it.
- 52:02SPEAKER_03: I also quite like when people go through the process and put it in and then apologize.
- 52:07SPEAKER_03: I think that's even shitter because you're like, you've actively gone out of your way to basically put the ball in the back of the net and you know full well that you shouldn't have done.
- 52:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sorry, mate.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's like the equivalent of calling somebody out in front of a group and then texting after uh hey mate, uh it wasn't personal.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, it fucking was.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: Just own up to it.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's you, I Brendan.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: I used to do it, I used to have this thing where I used to insult somebody, but I'd have to apologize immediately.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: Ropes used to love it because he would be like, This is so you.
- 52:39SPEAKER_04: He'd be overly harsh to someone, and then he'd like go up to them and start trying to be really nice.
- 52:43SPEAKER_04: And you'd be like, piss off, Brendan.
- 52:45SPEAKER_04: If you're gonna just commit to being a knob or don't be a knob, I'd just choose one of them.
- 52:51SPEAKER_04: Also, I thought this was brilliant.
- 52:53SPEAKER_04: I've just come to me in one of our meetings today at G V Rupert Shipley did the whole um he he was talking in a meeting, and he was like, Anything to add Shippo, and he was like, No, and then he proceeded to talk for two minutes, and at least three people turned and looked at me, and I was like, listeners, they're here, they're here, they're among us.
- 53:14SPEAKER_04: So Shippo, you're an idiot.
- 53:16SPEAKER_04: I'm a nobot.
- 53:20SPEAKER_00: I actually also wrote down one shit or hit because it's been bugging me for quite a while.
- 53:25SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: No, because uh I'm 90% sure you guys oat milk coffee or like oat milk with do you guys are you one of them?
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: I should be one of them, but I'm not one of them.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like in in Holland there's like this, and I don't know if it's around the world, in Holland there's like this trend that if you order a coffee somewhere or like a cappuccino, you get the question, um do you want it with uh uh cow milk or uh oat milk or soy milk?
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: Like the the fact that we have to call it cow milk now is is kind of baffling to me.
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: It's like it really annoys me.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: I'm like don't don't don't go there.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: We don't have to call it cow milk, everyone just call it regular milk.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: Don't fucking start calling it cow milk.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: So we had in at the European Cup we had this like coffee room.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: So Thijs van Damme loves to make good coffee like you feel, and he has like this real fancy coffee thing, and then he had with like you know, not the one you push a button on, but the one you have to like do all the fucking terrible shit to like get a cup of coffee.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: Really nice.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: But he had he had like uh he had like this thing and he knew it annoyed me, so he asked it to me every time do you want cow milk or soy milk or whatever the other other milk oat milk is?
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: I I want just a regular old fucking cappuccino, and don't start with the whole fucking I know it's an irrational uh uh annoyance of me, but I fucking hate that that those kind of fucking annoying things.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 54:59SPEAKER_00: It it annoys me.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: There's not not that big a difference in taste, just take the fucking cow milk.
- 55:07SPEAKER_04: Went home a few months ago, and um me and Nick were walking through Chester, and we went into one of the coffee shops that I got told was really good, and so we're in there, it's really really edgy, and I'm like, okay, weird, like I'll have a flat white and an Americano, please.
- 55:23SPEAKER_04: And then they tell me halfway, like they don't tell it you, but it's only oat milk and soy milk place.
- 55:31SPEAKER_04: So it's like one of these like progressive, you know, we're saving the world type places, but they don't say that on the door, so then I'm like really annoyed that I've spent the money for fucking oat milk.
- 55:41SPEAKER_04: And then it was a really emotional roller coaster because then I had it and it was actually pretty nice.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, I yeah, it it probably doesn't taste that different, but out of that, like sheer uh fact, I don't want to just do be normal, drink a fucking regular cup of chill, it's not that different.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: I'm lactose intolerant opinion.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: I'm lactose intolerant and I still choose to have normal milk because I really don't enjoy the whole oat milk thing.
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: I don't really get it.
- 56:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but that's because you're an idiot.
- 56:19SPEAKER_00: I never really I never really got what lactose intolerant is.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: It means you're you're you're getting real you're getting the shits when you drink uh milk, right?
- 56:26SPEAKER_00: Exactly that.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: That's a fun image for you listeners.
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: When Brennan drinks milk, he's on the toilet all day.
- 56:34SPEAKER_04: And I think this is time to end Let's Stick Together, episode three.
- 56:40SPEAKER_04: When when we hit this point, I know that's it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_04: We're doing enough.
