- 0:41The f A Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. We'll pick up where
- 1:02we left off yesterday, and we're going to get into the Communion of Saints
- 1:07in the exhaustive explanation of the Catechism, one of the most fascinating teachings of
- 1:12the Catholic Church, one of the most comforting, one of the most useful.
- 1:17You're gonna love this, but before we do, let's get a couple
- 1:19of questions and answers out of radio replies. And I think this one may
- 1:22surprise people in our day and time. The Salvation Army is viewed as a
- 1:32charitable organization. A lot of people, you know, put money in the
- 1:36cattle at Christmas from Santa Claus's ringing the bell. They were not founded as
- 1:42such, and in fact, at their corps are still the same as their
- 1:45founding mission. Salvation Army was actually founded as a very anti Catholic, fringe
- 1:52Protestant group. I know most people don't know this. You give to charity,
- 1:56you think you're helping out the poor and the homeless, and so,
- 2:00I mean has done some very good work, but it's founding principles and its
- 2:06founder were quite opposed to Catholicism and very much part of the Temperance Movement.
- 2:13I've explained before how the Temperance Movement on its face was marketed to try to,
- 2:19you know, keep people from getting drunk and using their spouses and being
- 2:23lazy, right, so it was marketed. Its founders were actually pretty much
- 2:30neo Marxists. They were part of that progressive movement hated Catholics, and the
- 2:37main one of the main reasons, I will say the entire reason, but
- 2:40I mean, you've got to remember this stuff's kind of like contemporary with eugenics
- 2:46and Margaret Sanger and such as that, who promoted you know, abortion,
- 2:51because they wanted to exterminate all Catholics and Jews and brown people. The Temperance
- 2:57Movement said, if they could outlaw alcohol, Catholics couldn't have mask as we
- 3:00wouldn't have wine. It was a very big part of it actually, and
- 3:06sowing divisions within families, turning wives against husbands, saying your husband's just a
- 3:10drunk, you know. And I mean they really did that a lot.
- 3:15They split up a lot of families. They Yeah, the Temperance Movement even
- 3:20funded orphanages through certain like Presbyterian churches, and such, because they were splitting
- 3:28up families, because they were had these women's groups and meetings to convince their
- 3:35wives that if the husband even had a beer or two, he was evil
- 3:38and was gonna, you know, just destroy their children. And they had
- 3:44she had a moral duty, a Christian duty, even to divorce her husband,
- 3:49which is absolutely opposed to sound Christian doctrine and Catholic teaching. I mean,
- 3:54our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ not only drank wine at the past
- 4:00from meal and such, but made wine at the wedding feast, and Jesus
- 4:03can't sin. Therefore, alcohol and moderation cannot be sinful. Getting drunk,
- 4:12obviously is being abusive, obviously is being lazy, and not working obviously is
- 4:17but alcohol. God made the world, and God said all was good nothing.
- 4:23We have no right to call anything God made not good. And you
- 4:27know, yeast forms on the skins of grapes, It skins forms on barley
- 4:32kernels, it forms on any kind of fruit. And you know, God
- 4:38didn't invent pasteurization and refrigeration. For millions of years, people either brewed beer
- 4:45or crush those grapes or made a cider, and the natural yeast God put
- 4:49there turned the sugars into alcohol. Without that, mankind would not have survived
- 4:55because the water wasn't drinkable and that juice would have spoiled, and people would
- 4:59have been very God made alcohol for our good. And of course Saint Paul
- 5:04says to Saint Mathias, take a little wine. It's good for your stomach.
- 5:08And Jesus said he would not drink wine again after the Last Supper until
- 5:12he was in the Kingdom of heaven. So we have good reason to believe
- 5:15they'll be the best wine imaginable in heaven. And the old German word for
- 5:21yeast that they made their beer from was God is good. So this movement
- 5:29was really big around eighteen ninety into the early nineteen hundreds leading up to prohibition,
- 5:36which made America a harder drinking country than ever before and gave birth to
- 5:46organized crime in America and many murders killings. And let's say, legalized alcohol
- 5:54again after a ten year failed experiment, as everyone calls it nowanized crime just
- 6:00turned a gambling, prostitution and drugs. So thank you temperance movement. You
- 6:05fostered the fentanyl epidemic and the cocaine the crack epidemic of the eighties and nineties,
- 6:12and you know, yeah really did. In fact, there were two
- 6:17main factors in turning America into a bunch of atticts. Actually, first,
- 6:24well, I was kind of touched on it yesterday. It was the Civil
- 6:26War, especially the Union Army. See, the South was blockaded. We
- 6:30couldn't get any imports. Grant and Sherman and all them kept his troops drunk
- 6:35and high all the time. Seriously, cocaine and morphine was legal. Cocaine
- 6:42kept them marching and fighting, kept him alert, and it wasn't even believed
- 6:46to be having a bad effect at the time. Morphine, of course,
- 6:49for injuries. These these men were getting beat up on both sides. And
- 6:54the North had morphine. The South really had to make do with whatever.
- 6:58They had. Tons of alcohol, I mean, you know, Ulysses S.
- 7:02Grant was said to drink up to a gallon of whiskey a day.
- 7:05Well, the man was a monster, so I mean he had a lot
- 7:09of I mean, he led a genocide. He had a lot that he
- 7:13didn't want to think about. Our fine president of the United States, and
- 7:16he has suffered from manic depression PTSD, that you name it. So they
- 7:21didn't call it that back then, but we know, you know, a
- 7:25couple hundred thousand men died in the Civil War, not even including all the
- 7:28civilians, and there were hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties. When they came
- 7:32home, especially in the South, their homes were burned, their families were
- 7:35killed, and in the North, I mean their brothers and sons and fathers
- 7:42were killed in the war, families were split up. You know, the
- 7:46soldiers is never to be blamed. It's the leaders who make the decisions,
- 7:49and a drunk high army pretty much does what it's told without remorse. Until
- 7:56later and after that of them became the Old West gunfighters. I mean they
- 8:01were the outlaws. A lot of them went and started like Jesse James and
- 8:05them, tons of them. These gangs that started in the late eighteen hundreds.
- 8:11That's what all the Western movies are about. They were robing trains and
- 8:13such. And then we get into the nineteen hundreds they start robbing banks.
- 8:18You know, pretty Boy Floyd and Babyface Nelson and Dylinger and all that that
- 8:24started following the Civil War. I mean, before then, America, both
- 8:28North and South, was very peaceful, very Agrarian families were very much intact.
- 8:37People knew who their neighbors were. People went to church on Sundays.
- 8:41There was a lot expected of people. You didn't embarrass your family. After
- 8:46society was absolutely wrecked, we have the rise of the outlaw movement, and
- 8:50in the mountains especially, but much of the world South, people started bootlegging,
- 8:56making liquor, and that was for means of survival. When Prohibition hit,
- 9:01organized crime found a ready source of liquor from the mountains of North Carolina
- 9:07and Tennessee and Kentucky and West Virginia and Georgia. It was very big Alabama
- 9:13and the train rail stations, the big real hubs could get it moved to
- 9:16Chicago or New York or Atlanta, you know, and the BLINKOLM and I.
- 9:20And all they had to do was pay off a local politician. Al
- 9:22Capone actually set up office in Elizabeth in Tennessee. Believe it or not,
- 9:26al Capone set up office in a big hotel in Elizabeth and Tennessee shipping all
- 9:31this liquor up to Chicago. And then of course, you know up north,
- 9:35they had equipment across the Great Lakes. It was still legal in Canada
- 9:39well after, I mean and the Roaring twenties, everybody was basically drunk and
- 9:43high on cocaine. I mean it was like a big deal, you know,
- 9:48and I mean the books and movies document that. I mean, morality
- 9:52was in serious decline, you know. So then the temperance movement fails,
- 9:58and you've got basically a nation of attics. You know, you got World
- 10:03War One, You've got all these boys coming back hooked on morphine again because
- 10:07they've been injured, and they've been given a lot of infetiments by the US
- 10:09government. They continued through World War Two, a lot of infetiments. I
- 10:16think cocaine was probably illegal by World War Two, but it was frequently used
- 10:20in World War One. You know, the fifties were sure of this bucolic
- 10:24time. But if you watch the movies, the old crime movies and such
- 10:28a lot of our I mean, look at you know, the old man
- 10:31with a Golden arm break Sinatra. I mean, he was a heroin addict
- 10:35who was a veteran in that story. The sailors especially, and really wherever
- 10:41we had a naval port or really a military base, the government and the
- 10:46local officials would turn a blind eye because they said it was good for morale
- 10:50for the military to go on leave and you know, hire a hooker and
- 10:56get drunk or you know, use some drugs, and then you know,
- 11:00it would keep him a little more willing to continue doing his hard work in
- 11:05the military. So I mean, after that, I mean, like I
- 11:13said, the mafia gets sent to the casinos as such, they clean up
- 11:16the gambling commissions, start cleaning up the casinos, they go hardcore into the
- 11:18drug smuggling. By We had two back to back wars in Korean and Vietnam,
- 11:24and there's so many books and movies about how the government was just pumping
- 11:28our soldiers full of cocaine and heroin and all kinds of drugs. CIA was
- 11:35profiting off of it and using it to run their you know, black ops.
- 11:39And I mean the Temperance Movement and our military really beginning with the Civil
- 11:46War, has led to the decline of American morality in Christian culture and the
- 11:54fentanyl epidemic of today. I mean, it's really hard to think about.
- 11:58And you know, all these great veterans that we respect at Meyer, and
- 12:01of course we do, but their leadership, those guys on the Pentagon,
- 12:07those guys in the CIA, those guys the deep state, working behind the
- 12:11scenes. They're not on our side. They are not on our side.
- 12:16Just recently, doctor Jerome, course, he came out with a book about
- 12:20the Kennedy assassination and he basically says the CIA, together with the mafia,
- 12:24had Kennedy assassinated. And he goes through detail and he basically proves it.
- 12:28I mean, with forensic evidence and all kinds of stuff. It really fascinated
- 12:33if you haven't seen it. But Kennedy wanted he felt betrayed by the war,
- 12:39Pig Bay of pigs. He was thinking the war in Vietnam was a
- 12:43bad idea of wanting to end it. He was trying to kind of go
- 12:48behind the scenes to get some weapons, some missile systems. Pulled back,
- 12:52Russia pullback some, America pull back some. I'm not Kennedy fan. I
- 12:56don't think he was a good guy at all. But he realized what was
- 12:58going on and that would have cost the mafia millions in drug sales, the
- 13:03military industrial complex millions and weapons sales and taking a lot of the secret budget
- 13:11away from the CIA. And yeah, it makes a lot of sense actually,
- 13:18when you really start piecing it together, it makes a whole lot of
- 13:20sense. But back to the Salvation Army. The person asks why not be
- 13:26charitable and admit that the Salvation Army, with their good works, are God's
- 13:30people. And they answer I charitably say their good works are often very pleasing
- 13:35to God, and they themselves also from many of them, had the utmost
- 13:39goodwill and devotion. But charity does not oblige me to say that the True
- 13:43Church of Jesus Christ was founded by General Booth. General Booth is the founder
- 13:48of a Salvation Army, so it's called the Salvation Army by the way,
- 13:52he gave it a military structure. However well intentioned these good people may be,
- 13:56they are mistaken. Christ gave us It's a definite set of truths to
- 14:01be believed and precepts to be fulfilled. He is a true Christian who believes
- 14:05all that Christ taught and does all that he commands. Members of the Salvation
- 14:09Army reject much of Christ's doctrine. Some say that baptism is not really necessary.
- 14:15All rejects Christ's teaching on the Eucharist. Although Christ allowed the Jews to
- 14:20go their own way when they refuse to accept his teaching, the army said.
- 14:24The Army says, believe in the name of Christ, and you will
- 14:28be saved by him. The Catholic Church rightly says that is not enough,
- 14:33and gives the advice believing Christ, believe in every single doctrine he taught,
- 14:39and believe that you can be saved by Him, provided that you try to
- 14:41have a sincerely his moral teachings. I admit that many members of the Salvation
- 14:46Army tried just as sincerely to live up to their inadequate knowledge of Christianity,
- 14:50as Catholics try to live up to the full truth. In that sense,
- 14:54they are good people, but they are not true Christians insofar as they do
- 14:58not accept the full truth revealed by Christ. So I'm not going to tell
- 15:03you not to donate to the Salvation Army. Much of their religious leaning is
- 15:09no more that fell by the wayside, I'd say at least by the seventies
- 15:15and eighties. Now they do tend to be more of just a secular charity.
- 15:20But if you have a local chapter, ask them for a list of
- 15:24what they use the money for, and if it's all just doing secular charitable
- 15:31works, then I'm fine with that. I'm absolutely fine with that if they
- 15:35have a religious side to their organization, which some still do. Some are
- 15:43kind of associated with like alcoholics Anonymous and such, which is again a very
- 15:50good organization, but some take it a little too far with that, like
- 15:54making an almost religion unto itself, you know. So you have to be
- 15:58careful with any of these things. But I'm not opposed to Salvation Army right
- 16:04now. It's basically just more like Goodwill than anything else, you know,
- 16:07like the good Will charity that does job training and such. But yeah,
- 16:14just just check it out and make sure your money is not to go into
- 16:17something that you oppose, or perhaps better stated, don't give your money to
- 16:21an organization that opposes the Catholic Church, you and your faith. And I
- 16:26put Catholic charities on that list because there are really doing very immoral things with
- 16:32our money, facilitating human and drug trafficking across the southern border. And besides,
- 16:38they're getting enough money from the government now they don't need the second collection.
- 16:41So, as I've said many times, don't put money in that plate
- 16:45on the second collection, just my opinion, make your own choice. Put
- 16:48a note saying until you stop working with the drug cartels in Mexico and our
- 16:55immoral Biden administration facilitating slave avery, rape, prostitution, and drug smuggling.
- 17:03Not one single penny, not one dime. All right, now, we'll
- 17:11get on to a more pleasant subject, which is the community's saints. Father
- 17:15Sparaga says the members of the Church may be divided into three classes. Those
- 17:18who are still in earth, having not here a lasting city, but seeking
- 17:23the one that is to come, Those that have reached their going in heaven,
- 17:26the saints, and those that are expiating their sins in purgatory. All
- 17:33are fellow citizens, with the Saints and domestics of God, working together for
- 17:37the same object in union with God. The members of this great community are
- 17:41called saints, because all are sanctified by baptism. All are called to a
- 17:48holy life. Those in heaven have already attained perfect holiness. Yet Saint Paul
- 17:52calls Christians on earth still calls Christians on our Saints and Ephesians one to one.
- 17:57The community Saints is in union and intercourse with Catholics on Earth. Of
- 18:03the soul's in purgatory and the saints in heaven. The Church on earth is
- 18:07called the Church Militant because of its ceaseless struggle with its three enemies, the
- 18:11world, the flesh, and the devil. The souls in purgatory form the
- 18:15Church suffering because they are still expiating their sins in a cleansing fire. The
- 18:19blessed in heaven are called the Church triumphant because they have already secured their victory.
- 18:25These three divisions are one church by common bond of Baptism Catholics on earth.
- 18:30The soul's in purgatory and the blessed in Heaven are united with Christ,
- 18:33just as are members of the body with the head Romans twelve fourth. The
- 18:38Holy Spirit works in all members. That's on Corinthians twelve thirteen. The says
- 18:45Saint Augustine animates the organs of the body and causes the eye to see and
- 18:48the ear to hear, etc. Just so does the Holy Spirit work and
- 18:52the members of Christ's body, as the Holy Spirit proceeds from Christ. Christ
- 18:56is the head of the Christian Body Colossians one eighteen. He is the buying,
- 19:02carrying strength and nourishment to the branches. John fifteen five. Each member
- 19:06of the body has its own spectual function. So each member of the Church
- 19:10has its own gifts for Corinthians twelve six through ten and twenty eight. Each
- 19:15member of the body works for the whole body. So every member of the
- 19:18church works for the common good. All the members of the bodies share the
- 19:21pain or pleasure felt by one and the same is true of the mutual sympathy
- 19:26of the Community of Saints. If one members suffer for anything, if one
- 19:30members suffer anything, all members suffer with it. Or if one member glory,
- 19:34all members rejoice with it. First Corinthians twelve, twenty six. Thus
- 19:38the saints in heaven are not indifferent to our condition. Catholics who have fallen
- 19:42into mortal sin are still members of this great body, though dead members,
- 19:45but they cease to be members that they are excommunicated. All members of the
- 19:51Community of Saints have a share in the spiritual goods of the Catholic Church,
- 19:53and can help one another by their prayers and their good works. The saints
- 19:57alone in heaven have no need of help. In a similar manner, all
- 20:02people of a country have a share in the institution supported by the country,
- 20:06such as hospitals, asylums, law courts, etc. So also in the
- 20:10family circle, all members have a claim to the share of the common goods,
- 20:14such as richards or honors. Thus, all masses, the means of
- 20:17grace, the prayers of the Church, and all good works done by individuals
- 20:21are for the benefit of all its members. In the our Father, we
- 20:25pray for others as well as for ourselves. Holy Mass is offered for the
- 20:29dead as well as the living, and the same is true of the office
- 20:32recited by the priest. Hence it is that one may have more hope of
- 20:36converting the greatest center who still belongs to the Church, than a freemason who
- 20:41is outwardly who outwardly leads a good life, yet is cut off from it.
- 20:45And I should have mentioned that Booth and the Salvation Army. I believe
- 20:52Booth was a Freemason. I know the Masons have had a big part in
- 20:56the foundation of the Salvation Army. So it's another thing you may only consider.
- 21:02A Catholic may look forward to a quicker release from purgatory than others.
- 21:06Saint Francis Xavier constantly cheered himself with the thought that the Church was praying for
- 21:10him and supporting him with her good works. Moreover, all members of the
- 21:14church can give mutual help. There is the same sympathy as in the human
- 21:18body, where a sound member comes to the help of one is weaker,
- 21:22and the possession of good lungs, a sound heart or a healthy stomach may
- 21:25help the body to recover from what might otherwise have been a fatal illness.
- 21:30The eye does not act for itself alone. It guides the hands and feet.
- 21:34Sodom would have been saved had ten just men been found within its walls.
- 21:41All Catholics can help each other by prayer and good works. Saint Peter
- 21:45was freed from prison by the prayers of Christians. The prayer of Saint Stephen,
- 21:48says Saint Augustine procured the conversion of Saint Paul. The tears and prayers
- 21:53of Saint Monica converted to her son. Even in the Old Testament, God
- 21:56promised that he would be merciful to the prayers of the priests Leviticus four twenty.
- 22:03Saint James bids us pray for one another that you may be saved.
- 22:07Saint Paul, I beseech you help me in your prayers for me. To
- 22:11God, Christ revealed to him. Marie Lataste Latosta guess that as esther saved
- 22:18her people by her intercession with hm Asuris. I think so the prayers of
- 22:25a single soul may have a whole nation, may save a whole nation from
- 22:29the avenging hand of God. Prayer is a work of mercy and brings down
- 22:33a blessing on the one who prays and the one who has prayed. For
- 22:37fasting in almsgivings are also a means of help. As a man's debts may
- 22:41be paid off by his neighbor, so the dead of sin may in some
- 22:45measure be paid off by good works of others. And thus it was in
- 22:48the early Church that penances were offered, that penances were often remitted, remitted,
- 22:55or shortened by the intercession of the martyrs. We can also help the
- 22:59whole souls in purgatory by prayers and other good works. In turn, they
- 23:03can help us by their prayers, especially when they reach heaven. The Jews
- 23:07even believe that help could be given to the souls of the departed, for
- 23:11we read in Second Maccabees how Judas Maccabeus caused sacrifice to be offered for those
- 23:15who had fallen in battle, and sent money to the temple for that purpose.
- 23:19The passing bell and the nail or signs to pray for the dying of
- 23:22the dead. In the memento. After the consecration at Mass, a special
- 23:26petition is made for the departed. Prayers, says Saint Augustine, is the
- 23:30key by which the living, especially holy. It is the key by which
- 23:36we open the gates of Heaven to the suffering souls. The prayers of the
- 23:38living, especially holy Mass, alms, deeds, and other works of piety,
- 23:42are of great efficacy in lessening the sufferings of the Holy souls. The
- 23:48souls in purgatory can also help us. Many saints held that we can call
- 23:52the holy souls to our help. Saint Bellarmine, Saint Fonsis, etc.
- 23:56Say Catherine and Bologna used to often call upon the Holy souls when the saints
- 24:00seems to fail in helping her, and she never asks him in vain.
- 24:06The saints in heaven can help us by their prayers before the Throne of God,
- 24:10that's in Revelations eight four, especially if we call upon them for help.
- 24:15The saints much know much of what happens on earth, for their happiness
- 24:18consists of the complete satisfaction of all their desires. The devil knows all our
- 24:22weaknesses, as we know from the way in which he tempts us. The
- 24:26profits of the Old Testament sometimes foretold the future and knew the most hidden things.
- 24:30It is likely that the saint is it likely that the Saints are less
- 24:33favor than they They rejoice when a center converts converted Luke fifteen seven. What
- 24:41can escape those, says Saint Thomas Aquinas, who sees, who see him,
- 24:47who sees all? What can escape those? Says Saint Thomas Aquinas,
- 24:52who see him, who sees all things? You know the words. They're
- 24:56in communion with Jesus, and he's omniscient and nominy present, sharing in his
- 25:00divinity, and they're aware of everything going on in our lives and on earth.
- 25:04And the Church teaches us that when we call upon the saints for their
- 25:07prayers, they join their prayers to ours. Their intercession is great efficacy for
- 25:12the continual prayer of a just man, even on earth avail us much.
- 25:18That's Jasper five sixteen. I think what power Abraham had when pleading for sodom.
- 25:26If, says Saint Jerome, the Saints had such power in the flesh,
- 25:30what can they not obtain for us? Now they have secured their victory.
- 25:33Saint John Christostom often compares their session to the pleading of old soldiers who
- 25:37display their wounds. This power has often been demonstrated by miracles. Our dead
- 25:44relatives and friends who are in heaven are always pleading for us at the throne
- 25:47of God, and often save us from danger. Charity never dies, says
- 25:52First Corinthians thirteen eight. And the ties which bind us to those we love
- 25:56remain unbroken on earth, even in hell. The wretched Dvs showed that he
- 26:02had some affections still for his relatives on earth, that's the rich men in
- 26:06Lazarus, and he may have been actually purgatory, so that's always been a
- 26:10bit of a controversy. The prophet Jeremiah and the Holy High Priests so Nias
- 26:15prayed in Limbo for the Jewish nation Mcavees fifteen fourteen, and Christ promised his
- 26:22apostles that he would pray for them John fourteen sixteen and one John two to
- 26:29one. Saint Augustine after the death of his mother of Saint Monica and Saint
- 26:33Vinceslaus after the death of his grandmother, Saint Ludmia rapidly advanced to greater heights
- 26:40of sanctity. So to the saints help the souls in purgatory. Our Lady
- 26:45alone rescues daily some souls from purgatory by her prayers. On the anniversary the
- 26:49assumption of Our Lady, thousands of souls are delivered from prison. That's according
- 26:53to Saint Damien and Saint Alfonsis. They were, you know, mystics,
- 26:57visionaries they had, they knew what's going on. They were in great community
- 27:03communion with Heaven even here on Earth. On Saturdays, the days especially devote
- 27:07to Our Lady, she rescues many poor souls from purgatory. That's according to
