Drivers in South Thurston County, hit the brakes—major roadwork is coming to I-5 starting Monday, July 6. Nearly seven miles of asphalt will be resurfaced in both directions, including ramps and rest area lots. Expect lane reductions, a speed limit drop to 55 mph, and overnight closures of Scatter Creek and Maytown rest areas. Work zones shift nightly: single-lane closures 6 PM–8 AM Mon–Thu, 6 PM–10 AM Fri–Sat; double-lane closures 8 PM–6 AM Mon–Wed, then Thu–Fri. Travel times will spike—plan ahead.
