- 0:00Speaker 1: When you hit off with your mates and you'll just
- 0:02Speaker 1: crack gags.
- 0:03Speaker 2: If I added a lot of color here time he
- 0:07Speaker 2: went to boss level for Barre's fears.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Have some of this bangs.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Unbelievable is probably the best way to describe the news
- 0:18Speaker 3: that broke yesterday in the AFL surrounding the Sydney Swans
- 0:23Speaker 3: and the alleged goings on that happens on the trip
- 0:28Speaker 3: to Melbourne. Adrian Barrett joins us. Now, good morning, Barrow, Morning, Barrow.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Gosh, this is a story that no one ever wants
- 0:37Speaker 4: to report on.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Exactly, well, said Lisa. That's exactly how I'm feelingked So
- 0:43Speaker 1: I thought it just at the start, I'd say two things.
- 0:46Speaker 1: One is I'd make the distinction that if a sexual
- 0:49Speaker 1: assault has been committed, this is much more than a
- 0:52Speaker 1: sports story, isn't. It's huge. It's a huge footy story,
- 0:55Speaker 1: but even talking about how it affect the Swan's premiership
- 0:58Speaker 1: chances is probably missing the point of it. Yes, but
- 1:02Speaker 1: having said that, I am a sports supporter, so at
- 1:04Speaker 1: this stage we'll have to discuss the implications for the
- 1:08Speaker 1: Sydney Swans. But it's bigger than that. At the moment.
- 1:11Speaker 1: What we do know is that it's been confirmed four
- 1:14Speaker 1: Swans players have spoken to police about an incident in
- 1:18Speaker 1: the early hours of yesterday morning at the Pullman Hotel
- 1:21Speaker 1: in Melbourne. It's a place where all the AFL's teams stay.
- 1:24Speaker 1: It's near the mcg and we know that for whatever reason,
- 1:29Speaker 1: the Swan's players were given some sort of license to
- 1:31Speaker 1: go out after the Essendon game, given license.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Or took license to go out. I mean one week
- 1:37Speaker 4: out from finals.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Some of the coaches got home at midnight, so I said,
- 1:42Speaker 1: maybe their curfew was midnight and some players broke it.
- 1:45Speaker 1: But anyway, we'll get to the bottom of that. Some
- 1:48Speaker 1: of them got home as late as four am, which
- 1:50Speaker 1: sounds absolutely crazy, least as you're saying. They had beaten
- 1:54Speaker 1: Essendon on Sunday night and they couldn't fly home to
- 1:56Speaker 1: Sydney because of that Sydney Airport curfew, so you can't
- 2:01Speaker 1: fly into Sydney at that time, which they must be
- 2:05Speaker 1: just thinking we should have got a bus. But anyway,
- 2:07Speaker 1: allegations have now been made that there was a sexual assault.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Three women were in the floor of the hotel around
- 2:16Speaker 1: seven thirty am, confronting Swan staff wanting to get back
- 2:20Speaker 1: into the room and including Dean Cox who'd come down
- 2:24Speaker 1: probably for breakfast. Four Swans players have been interviewed by police.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Some of their very best players too, Chad Warner, Isaac Keeney,
- 2:34Speaker 1: then James Jordan and Riley Brice. Nick Blakey's manager says
- 2:38Speaker 1: he hasn't been interviewed, but he's the other player that's
- 2:40Speaker 1: been named as the fifth person, so several of the
- 2:44Speaker 1: Swan's absolute superstars. The players didn't fly home with the team.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Looks like they drove back to Sydney last night, probably
- 2:52Speaker 1: to avoid the meetia.
- 2:53Speaker 2: That's what they said.
- 2:54Speaker 4: It was to avoid the media. I mean, that's a
- 2:56Speaker 4: big sort of move to avoid the media.
- 2:59Speaker 2: We're going to be waiting for him the airport.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah. Poor old Caleb Sarong's brother got home later
- 3:05Speaker 1: yesterday and he got swamped in the nothing about anything,
- 3:09Speaker 1: so he had to no comment, no comment. I'll leave
- 3:12Speaker 1: it to whatever. But there's also I got to say,
- 3:15Speaker 1: there's also some unhelpful stuff going around on social media.
- 3:19Speaker 1: So whatever you're seeing on social media, including photos and stuff,
- 3:22Speaker 1: don't you know what I mean?
- 3:24Speaker 4: I believe that photo that you are you referring to
- 3:28Speaker 4: that a lot of peoples around yesterday it was and
- 3:31Speaker 4: it was reported that photo of a girl with you know,
- 3:35Speaker 4: her teeth ship shed blood in her mouth. That photo
- 3:39Speaker 4: was sort of taken from a UK chat room published
- 3:42Speaker 4: months ago. So you've got to be very careful these
- 3:45Speaker 4: days what you take on board from the internet, especially
- 3:49Speaker 4: within hours of an incident happening. The swansa a premiership
- 3:53Speaker 4: contender this year. If you were a teammate and you've
- 3:57Speaker 4: been going along, you know, playing football, doing everything wrong,
- 4:02Speaker 4: I don't think you'd ever forgive them, would you? If
- 4:04Speaker 4: this costs you know that, if this just disrupts the season.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I mean it sounds crazy because there's lot more at stake,
- 4:12Speaker 1: but yeah, that's yeah, you would never. You would never
- 4:14Speaker 1: forgive them, you just because you play your whole career
- 4:17Speaker 1: just to be in second place, to be in second
- 4:19Speaker 1: place first of all, and then also to perhaps play
- 4:22Speaker 1: in a Grand final and win a premiership. So I
- 4:24Speaker 1: think we'll get a more complete statement from Sydney today.
- 4:28Speaker 1: It's unlike I reckon, it's unlikely any of the players
- 4:30Speaker 1: will play this weekend. They'll effectively be stood down until
- 4:34Speaker 1: there's a resolution. Yeah, unless they unless a few of
- 4:38Speaker 1: them are cleared earlier or or not clear, if you
- 4:40Speaker 1: know what I mean. If charges are laid, of course
- 4:42Speaker 1: the court takes over, but then least there's that innocent
- 4:45Speaker 1: until proven guilty thing. So previously they've stood players down
- 4:51Speaker 1: and then perhaps later on they've been sound innocent and
- 4:54Speaker 1: it's really affected their life. So it's a really hard
- 4:57Speaker 1: position to be in. It's really hard to the girls
- 5:00Speaker 1: as well, you know. So I'm not saying that I'm
- 5:02Speaker 1: sticking up for the players, and I'm just saying that
- 5:04Speaker 1: I don't even know what i'd do if I was
- 5:07Speaker 1: pad put it that way, I'd have got no idea
- 5:09Speaker 1: or the Swans what I would actually do in this situation.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It's very complicated. Do they sit out the rest of
- 5:16Speaker 1: the season? Certainly? If so, anyone's found is going to
- 5:18Speaker 1: get charged, they have to, I think, But of course
- 5:22Speaker 1: the rest of them, Yeah, I've got no. It's a
- 5:26Speaker 1: big day in footy too, because they're going to announce
- 5:28Speaker 1: the new Carlton coach Josh Frazer. Yeah, and I think
- 5:31Speaker 1: they've delayed the All Australian squad announcement because of what's
- 5:34Speaker 1: going on so far.
- 5:38Speaker 4: It's a very ugly situation.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think we've got some have we got
- 5:44Speaker 1: a bit of a they're doing his best. I mean
- 5:48Speaker 1: it got rolled out, but then he basically couldn't say anything,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and then he I better go back inside of you.
- 5:53Speaker 1: This is getting out of control.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right.
- 5:55Speaker 3: You did front for an approximately a forty second press conference.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Here's what Pav had to say.
- 6:01Speaker 5: We can confirm that several players were involved in an
- 6:04Speaker 5: alleged incident last night in Melbourne. We've identified this to
- 6:09Speaker 5: the AFL. We are working with them and also the
- 6:11Speaker 5: relevant authorities on this matter. We're still peking together exactly
- 6:16Speaker 5: what's transpired here and have our own set of internal
- 6:19Speaker 5: inquiries ongoing. It's safe to say that we're extremely shocked
- 6:23Speaker 5: and disappointed whether this has taken place, and that the
- 6:27Speaker 5: players have found themselves in this situation.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Not much more he can say, naturally.
- 6:32Speaker 1: No, and I think being Cox this morning somewhere has
- 6:36Speaker 1: said exactly the same thing.
- 6:38Speaker 4: That's all I can say.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So people we know very very well. So we'll just
- 6:43Speaker 1: keep on top of it. And yeah, I think I'll
- 6:46Speaker 1: get back to sport and talking about goals and kicks
- 6:49Speaker 1: and premiership.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Yes, that would be good, all right you tomorrow.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Thanks thanks for digging a little deeper into that for us, Mate,
- 6:59Speaker 3: we're really appre sh added
