- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm going to regret this.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Welcome to the Note Party.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Hi.
- 0:06Speaker 3: This is Nick and Ostasu, story editor on Star Wars,
- 0:10Speaker 3: the Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch, and you
- 0:14Speaker 3: are listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Step right up and slide right into another special episode
- 0:27Speaker 1: of Aggressive Negotiations, the Star Wars podcast that explores the
- 0:31Speaker 1: nooks and crannies of the English muffin that is the
- 0:34Speaker 1: Star Wars Galaxy. I am John Mills, and I am
- 0:38Speaker 1: pleased to welcome once again to this program my esteemed
- 0:42Speaker 1: co host, Jedi Master Matthew Rushing. Matt are you ready
- 0:46Speaker 1: to delve into another one of my trademark zany topics?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Honestly, I can't wait. You texted me and you're like, hey,
- 0:53Speaker 2: I got a topic, and I was like, dude, I'm ready.
- 0:57Speaker 1: It is the importance of exercise. I was out for
- 0:59Speaker 1: my walk the other night and your brain wanders and
- 1:02Speaker 1: you're just wandering around, and I said, I got a topic.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And you know what else I got was I got
- 1:08Speaker 1: a wave of thanks for our latest review on Apple Podcasts, actually,
- 1:13Speaker 1: where we got a five star review and a lot
- 1:16Speaker 1: of praise, and I just want to say thank you
- 1:19Speaker 1: so much for dropping off that review. Be just like
- 1:22Speaker 1: that reviewer and let us know what you think. Drop
- 1:25Speaker 1: us a star rating and review. It helps other people
- 1:28Speaker 1: find the show as this person found the show, which
- 1:31Speaker 1: fills us with great gratitude that they did. And we
- 1:34Speaker 1: look forward to continuing to deliver hopefully content that you
- 1:38Speaker 1: want to listen to. So in that vein, I'm walking
- 1:42Speaker 1: along and Matt. People may not know this, but you
- 1:44Speaker 1: recently actually visited the Jedi Temple where I am. Yes,
- 1:49Speaker 1: outside of.
- 1:50Speaker 2: The kessel Vania. Yes, the Jedi Temple. Yes, it's lovely.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It's a fine established.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Well, it's part of the Jedi expansion program here in
- 2:01Speaker 1: the Outer Rim. It is in a suburb of the
- 2:04Speaker 1: Mouse Empire. Much like Cloud City. We're small enough to
- 2:07Speaker 1: escape the notice of the Empire, but you know, we
- 2:10Speaker 1: make do we make do. So in that vein, I
- 2:15Speaker 1: was thinking in a galaxy where there is light speed travel,
- 2:22Speaker 1: where there's blasters, where there's lightsabers, where there's droids, all
- 2:27Speaker 1: of these cool things. Even the luke living on a
- 2:29Speaker 1: backwater has droids he can talk to, and a land
- 2:32Speaker 1: speeder that floats, and all of these sorts of things.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Were there theme parks in Star Wars, like what would
- 2:38Speaker 1: people do in a place with technology this fantastic to
- 2:42Speaker 1: possibly wow them?
- 2:44Speaker 2: So one, we have seen obviously pleasure planets like Canto
- 2:51Speaker 2: Bite right in the sequel series. We've also seen that
- 2:55Speaker 2: in Skeleton Crew, the big planet that has the world's
- 3:02Speaker 2: apparently best spa, you know, mud baths galore, hidden pirate
- 3:08Speaker 2: treasure as well, So we've seen that kind of entertainment.
- 3:13Speaker 2: So to me, it does compute that somewhere there would
- 3:18Speaker 2: be a planet where there were rides, like some sort
- 3:24Speaker 2: of you know, something like a roller coaster, right, I mean,
- 3:26Speaker 2: you know you could go to hyperspace, right, but you
- 3:28Speaker 2: don't feel that, right, you're not. They never explained that
- 3:33Speaker 2: they have internal dampeners, so you you know, you don't
- 3:35Speaker 2: feel the going to light speed, but you gotta you know,
- 3:41Speaker 2: they have like swoop races and pod races and all
- 3:45Speaker 2: those type of things.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But yeah, what.
- 3:48Speaker 2: If you wanted a safe place to be able experience that, right,
- 3:52Speaker 2: you know, so that you could get the rush of
- 3:55Speaker 2: going as fast as you could in a pod racer
- 3:58Speaker 2: without you know, having to be a jet or some
- 4:00Speaker 2: sort of alien species that can compute that speed and
- 4:05Speaker 2: not get yourself killed.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Okay, I see where you're tracking with that. I think
- 4:11Speaker 1: maybe where my brain is is, like I we've seen
- 4:17Speaker 1: people go to you know, hyperspace and they at least
- 4:21Speaker 1: feel the pullback, there's the accelerant and you're going through
- 4:24Speaker 1: hyperspace and that sort of thing. There are races, You're
- 4:27Speaker 1: absolutely right. So you're saying people would want to recreate
- 4:30Speaker 1: the feeling of a pod race without being a pod racer, right, fair.
- 4:36Speaker 1: So I guess the question becomes what type of carnival
- 4:40Speaker 1: atmosphere would there be because here, for instance, in the
- 4:45Speaker 1: US where we are, there are governing laws and bodies
- 4:49Speaker 1: and regulations and that sort of thing. And this gets
- 4:52Speaker 1: back to some of the discussions that we've had about
- 4:54Speaker 1: the you know, the frontier lifestyle and stuff like that.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Would there be a travel carnival with rides like this
- 5:02Speaker 1: or would you have to go to like a chorissant,
- 5:05Speaker 1: Like is there a theme park section of Coorissants that
- 5:08Speaker 1: we've never seen? And people, Yeah, people would go there.
- 5:12Speaker 1: They wouldn't necessarily trust the guy with the ramshackle old
- 5:16Speaker 1: track that would come through because but the thing is
- 5:19Speaker 1: to simulate a pod race, what what are you gonna
- 5:22Speaker 1: do are you gonna build like a how big are
- 5:24Speaker 1: you going to build that track? Like? How are you
- 5:26Speaker 1: gonna build that experience?
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah? I think you know, I was thinking about this,
- 5:31Speaker 2: you know, with my latest visit uh to uh the
- 5:35Speaker 2: Jedi Temple in Kestlevania and us going to the Universal
- 5:40Speaker 2: Park epic, yes, which very much lived up to its name.
- 5:43Speaker 2: It did, And there is that ride start us Racers, right,
- 5:47Speaker 2: and that's what I'm thinking that you do, Uh you
- 5:51Speaker 2: basically create that but with a pod racer type of
- 5:55Speaker 2: fuel and it goes as fast as a pod racer
- 5:59Speaker 2: and so of course, you know, uh startus Racers was
- 6:03Speaker 2: already fast enough. I can't imagine going faster than that
- 6:07Speaker 2: because it was incredibly fast, and.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I'm fairly certain my spleen still hasn't caught up to me.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yes, yes, exactly, there's there's a I think my small
- 6:16Speaker 2: intestine just finally locked back into place.
- 6:19Speaker 1: That's gonna make life a lot better for it was.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Seriously, I was a little worried actually, but so I
- 6:27Speaker 2: can totally see this being a thing, and and so
- 6:30Speaker 2: like I love your thought, Like, is there a part
- 6:33Speaker 2: of Coraissant right that we see this type of place.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Now we know obviously from the Mandalorian there is a
- 6:43Speaker 2: an area where it's kind of like a carnival atmosphere.
- 6:46Speaker 2: There didn't seem be any rides there, but it's that
- 6:48Speaker 2: place where the highest mountain on Corussant, you know, is uncovered.
- 6:54Speaker 2: We still we actually see that in the Mandalorian. Uh,
- 6:57Speaker 2: And there's you know thing that it felt like you
- 7:00Speaker 2: would get at a local carnival, you know, on sticks
- 7:04Speaker 2: and that kind of thing, and so h it makes
- 7:07Speaker 2: sense to me that there would be and like right,
- 7:10Speaker 2: we were in and Or which in and or the
- 7:14Speaker 2: spot that we see Bix and and or in the
- 7:19Speaker 2: safe House is a very different part of the city
- 7:23Speaker 2: than you know, the place that we see the temple
- 7:27Speaker 2: and you know, the the rotunda of the Senate, And
- 7:31Speaker 2: so there's got to be an amusement section of Courssant somewhere.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And as per the idea of there being like a
- 7:44Speaker 2: traveling you know, carnival or like circus, we actually did
- 7:49Speaker 2: see that kind of idea in the Clone Wars, remember
- 7:53Speaker 2: the Young Ling's arc where Ohsoka and the kids to
- 7:57Speaker 2: be a traveling circle.
- 7:58Speaker 1: There is a traveling circus, but acrobats, no.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Bides, So the idea that that type of thing exists
- 8:07Speaker 2: leads me to believe maybe not that there's like necessarily
- 8:11Speaker 2: a traveling carnival that hops from planet to planet, but
- 8:14Speaker 2: that there would be that type of thing on different planets.
- 8:19Speaker 2: You know, that there would be planets that have had
- 8:22Speaker 2: enough stability and peace to create something like on amusement park.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Especially again, on a planet as big as Coruscant that's
- 8:31Speaker 2: an entire city, there's got to be a section of
- 8:34Speaker 2: that that's just like you know, entertainment Ville.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Yeah. But see, I love where you're going with that
- 8:40Speaker 1: because there's almost like a storyline you could write in
- 8:43Speaker 1: your brain where, whether it's Tatoine or somewhere else where,
- 8:48Speaker 1: a planet tries to revitalize its economy by building one
- 8:51Speaker 1: of these things, building an amusement park, a huge one,
- 8:55Speaker 1: and it tanks and that's why the planet is is
- 8:59Speaker 1: Tatooine or is whatever planet you want to pick that's
- 9:03Speaker 1: fallen on hard times in terms of like a global
- 9:05Speaker 1: economy sort of thing. Like, I think that's an interesting
- 9:08Speaker 1: type of story. Hey, animation team feels like this is
- 9:12Speaker 1: up your alley, But you could go ahead and embrace
- 9:15Speaker 1: that idea because Star Wars does reflect those sorts of things.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I wonder if the reason we've never seen an all
- 9:22Speaker 1: out theme park sort of thing is because of the
- 9:24Speaker 1: fact that the person who kicked all of Star Wars off,
- 9:28Speaker 1: you know, George Lucas, grew up in an era where
- 9:32Speaker 1: the theme park was closer to to keep the universal analogy,
- 9:35Speaker 1: closer to the et ride than it was to Stardust racers,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and so mentally that sort of the theme park mentality
- 9:43Speaker 1: that we see reflected. But it feels like something that
- 9:47Speaker 1: could be built on, you know, to go forward from that,
- 9:51Speaker 1: because think about it. Drag racing down the street. Okay,
- 9:55Speaker 1: we see pod racing, you know, that's like Formula one
- 9:57Speaker 1: stuff like that. We see the carnival with acrobats coming
- 10:01Speaker 1: around and stuff like that. But this roller coaster idea,
- 10:04Speaker 1: I think has legs. I think that's wow.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I would like to see a story like that again.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I mean, you know, the idea of speeder bikes and
- 10:12Speaker 2: swoop bikes and those kind of things. I think some
- 10:15Speaker 2: of those thought processes for us already kind of exist
- 10:18Speaker 2: in the Star Wars universe, but in a very practical sense, right,
- 10:22Speaker 2: you know, people ride on these type of things. But
- 10:26Speaker 2: the idea of and that's where I picked up on
- 10:29Speaker 2: the thought of you know, pod racing, because yeah, you
- 10:32Speaker 2: can be on a speeder bike, but nothing is going
- 10:35Speaker 2: as fast as like a pod racer is, unless you're
- 10:39Speaker 2: actually in a pod race or of course a ship
- 10:41Speaker 2: in space, which again, you know, we never really see
- 10:46Speaker 2: in Star Wars anybody having the impact of like coming
- 10:50Speaker 2: in or out of hyperspace, you know, as if there's
- 10:53Speaker 2: there's a big impact on the person, right, I mean,
- 10:56Speaker 2: you know, Vader's on the on the Star Destroyer and
- 10:59Speaker 2: doesn't even as it comes out of hyperspace or jump
- 11:02Speaker 2: to light speed. So in fact, we didn't never see
- 11:05Speaker 2: anybody like you know, that's true whoa you know, And
- 11:08Speaker 2: so that leads me to believe that for those that
- 11:14Speaker 2: love the thrill of going fast, you know, I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 2: like Ricky Bobby, then you know, you would want something
- 11:23Speaker 2: of that nature, and therefore having some sort of ride
- 11:28Speaker 2: that allows you to safely experience something like pod racing
- 11:34Speaker 2: makes sense to me, honestly, And you know, it just
- 11:38Speaker 2: also seems like there would be other rides that that
- 11:42Speaker 2: you would be excited for. There would be other things
- 11:44Speaker 2: that people I mean, you know, I would think, because
- 11:47Speaker 2: you're not just thinking of like adults that want to
- 11:49Speaker 2: do these things, but you're also thinking about like kids.
- 11:52Speaker 2: And so you know, you think of all the rides
- 11:54Speaker 2: that kids like to ride, you know, whether it's just
- 11:56Speaker 2: even a ferris wheel or something like that. There's got
- 11:59Speaker 2: to be some sort of Star Wars equivalent to that
- 12:02Speaker 2: for for again families to visit, for kids to want
- 12:05Speaker 2: to visit. And and those are also the type of
- 12:08Speaker 2: things that, as we've talked about before, whether it's with
- 12:12Speaker 2: food or medicine or anything like that, there's you know,
- 12:16Speaker 2: different planets are going to probably have different types of
- 12:18Speaker 2: rides depending on what that species can take, you know,
- 12:23Speaker 2: and so there might be some planets known for having
- 12:26Speaker 2: the quote unquote deadliest rides you can ride, because that
- 12:30Speaker 2: SPECIs can handle a lot. And you know, you get
- 12:32Speaker 2: those people who really want to test their metal and
- 12:36Speaker 2: just you know, find out that they're a splatter on
- 12:39Speaker 2: the back of the seat because yeah, they really weren't
- 12:42Speaker 2: meant to ride that fast.
- 12:43Speaker 1: You know. Okay, Well, I mean I came in with
- 12:46Speaker 1: the question and I think you've adequately answered it. You know, Yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 1: there've got to be theme parks in Star wars, we
- 12:51Speaker 1: just haven't seen them yet.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And so what Okay, so what planet then? What are
- 12:57Speaker 2: what are the planets like? So other than Corrus? But
- 13:01Speaker 2: what other planets do you can you think of that
- 13:03Speaker 2: You're like, oh, I think this planet's gotta have you know,
- 13:07Speaker 2: A yeah, it's it's just got to.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Have that we've seen on that we've seen on screen.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I mean i'd want to say yeah. Honestly, I don't
- 13:16Speaker 1: want to say oda, pal Like, it seems like you
- 13:18Speaker 1: have a lot of opportunities with all the caves and
- 13:22Speaker 1: the sinkholes on that planet to sort of like about
- 13:25Speaker 1: a drop right exactly. That's a drop right exactly, or
- 13:29Speaker 1: like you know those slingshot rides that they have, imagine
- 13:31Speaker 1: being all the way down at the bottom where like
- 13:34Speaker 1: we run crashes into the water and then like you
- 13:36Speaker 1: pull it back and just shoot back out the top.
- 13:39Speaker 2: No that Nope, that's uh no too much.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Well no, actually, okay, here I'll pitch the ride right here.
- 13:46Speaker 1: You pull back and instead of an engine, you actually
- 13:50Speaker 1: slingshot somebody into orbit. That that feels like a Star
- 13:53Speaker 1: Wars he sort of things, strap in will slingshot you
- 13:55Speaker 1: into orbit.
- 13:56Speaker 2: I also think of like you know, just general sport.
- 14:00Speaker 2: It's like, can you imagine the surfing on on Camino?
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah? Right, oh now, yeah, I mean that would be
- 14:08Speaker 1: But would that kind of you know, would that count
- 14:10Speaker 1: as a theme park?
- 14:12Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I mean obviously a water park. Yeah, well, I mean
- 14:17Speaker 1: and so at that point the water slides, but with
- 14:21Speaker 1: all of the exactly but with all the lightning, you see,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you'd have to shut them down all the time. So
- 14:25Speaker 1: that's down, This is true.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I was also thinking, you know an and or right,
- 14:29Speaker 2: we go to that uh that beach town Namos, right,
- 14:32Speaker 2: and and so it's obviously resort town.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And so the idea that they would have, you know,
- 14:39Speaker 2: some sort of entertainment rides or something like that that
- 14:42Speaker 2: doesn't seem too far off. I mean, do you even
- 14:45Speaker 2: get like the Bucking Reek ride, right, you know, so
- 14:49Speaker 2: instead of like the bucking Bronco ride at a honky
- 14:52Speaker 2: Tonk bar, uh, you know, you have the Bunking Reek
- 14:55Speaker 2: ride that kind of thing. So, I mean, okay, I
- 14:59Speaker 2: think I think I think we've got a lot of
- 15:02Speaker 2: fodder here for really fun and like just interesting things
- 15:08Speaker 2: that you could see throughout the Star Wars universe. I mean, gosh,
- 15:11Speaker 2: why we've never seen like a honky Tonk type bar
- 15:14Speaker 2: in Star Wars, especially like that Amandalorian walks into come
- 15:18Speaker 2: On Gad's.
- 15:19Speaker 1: That would have been very fitting. But it brings to
- 15:22Speaker 1: mind the immortal parody Hardware Wars by Ernie Faceelias, where
- 15:28Speaker 1: they walk into a honky Tonk biker bar in order
- 15:32Speaker 1: to meet Ham Salad and Chinchilla the Wookie Monster.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So good flying the Iron.
- 15:39Speaker 1: If you guys haven't seen Hardware Wars, do yourself as
- 15:42Speaker 1: a favor, go ahead.
- 15:43Speaker 2: It's so funny it is. It's legit, so funny it is.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I remember being a kid and seeing that for the
- 15:48Speaker 2: first time and laughing so hard. You know, I was
- 15:53Speaker 2: also like eight.
- 15:55Speaker 1: So well, as a parenthetical, Ernie Failius went on to
- 16:00Speaker 1: do Close Encounters of the Nerd Kind and Poor Clips Now,
- 16:06Speaker 1: both of which I think are fantastic parodies in their
- 16:09Speaker 1: own rocks. So, Ernie Facelius, wherever you are, I still
- 16:12Speaker 1: love you, So you know, I think that actually what
- 16:17Speaker 1: we should do is we should open up the floor.
- 16:18Speaker 1: See if anybody feels like, I mean, we got a review,
- 16:21Speaker 1: maybe people were feeling in a communicative mood. Let's open
- 16:24Speaker 1: the floor. Let's have some people head over to the
- 16:26Speaker 1: nerd party dot com slash contact. Let us know what
- 16:30Speaker 1: type of rides you'd see in your mind's eye about
- 16:33Speaker 1: the Star Wars galaxy would have, what planets and stuff
- 16:37Speaker 1: like that. I have a vision in my head right
- 16:39Speaker 1: now of Coroissant and you see the city lights right
- 16:43Speaker 1: on the night side, and you know how they have
- 16:45Speaker 1: all those circles where the city centers come through. Oh, yeah,
- 16:48Speaker 1: know what I'm thinking. You take one of those city circles.
- 16:50Speaker 1: You could put ears up there and you can just
- 16:52Speaker 1: bring Coroissant as a Disney planet at that point, I'm
- 16:55Speaker 1: surprised they didn't do that. They Hey, get on that, guys,
- 16:59Speaker 1: go back to the Naples, do your own special edition
- 17:02Speaker 1: and turn the little circular city centers on Coruscant into
- 17:06Speaker 1: Mickey Ears. You can do it. I know that you can.
- 17:09Speaker 1: We have the technology.
- 17:10Speaker 2: That would be so much fun.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that would be fitting. But Matt, if people want
- 17:15Speaker 1: to reach out to you directly or find you online
- 17:17Speaker 1: to discuss the theme park possibilities of the Star Wars
- 17:20Speaker 1: galaxy far far away, where can they find you? Yeah?
- 17:24Speaker 2: Please do? You can find me all over social media
- 17:26Speaker 2: under the name Matt Rushing zero two and so if
- 17:29Speaker 2: I'm on that platform, that'll be the name I'm under.
- 17:31Speaker 2: You can also find me here on the network doing
- 17:34Speaker 2: owl Posts with Drea Kaufman. We talked about every single
- 17:37Speaker 2: chapter the Harry Potter series, one chapter time. It's perfect
- 17:40Speaker 2: time to jump back into that as we've hit the fall.
- 17:42Speaker 2: We're in the back to Hogwarts season, so dive back
- 17:46Speaker 2: into owl Posts and hey, we've got a new series
- 17:50Speaker 2: coming in I think in a year or something like that,
- 17:53Speaker 2: you know, on HBO Max. So whatever, yeah, they call
- 17:56Speaker 2: it HBO Max. Now anyway, whatever the name is. You
- 17:59Speaker 2: can also find me on the TFM network doing a
- 18:02Speaker 2: bunch of shows about Star Trek with my good friend
- 18:04Speaker 2: Chris Jones. We love talking Star Trek, so check that out.
- 18:08Speaker 2: And also there's the six or two Club where we're
- 18:11Speaker 2: talking all things geeky outside of Star Trek, so all
- 18:15Speaker 2: of those fantoms we love. John is a frequent guest
- 18:18Speaker 2: over there, so you want to check that out. But John,
- 18:20Speaker 2: if people wanted to think about, you know, maybe the
- 18:24Speaker 2: special treats that they can only get, you know, at
- 18:27Speaker 2: these theme parks, what would that be in Star Wars
- 18:29Speaker 2: where could people find you?
- 18:31Speaker 1: Oh, you'll regret my answers if I give them to you.
- 18:33Speaker 1: You can find me as Kessel Junkie on your social
- 18:35Speaker 1: network of choice. I'm very active over on Letterbox. It's
- 18:39Speaker 1: probably my favorite network right now because I like to
- 18:43Speaker 1: keep tabs of exactly how deep the sickness is inside
- 18:46Speaker 1: of me for watching movies, because it's NonStop. A slow
- 18:49Speaker 1: month for me is twenty. What's a slow month for you?
- 18:52Speaker 1: And we can go ahead and we can connect by
- 18:55Speaker 1: you listening to me over on house Lights, which is
- 18:58Speaker 1: a podcast that I do with Tristan Rell and Darren
- 19:00Speaker 1: Moser where we talk about different movies by different directors
- 19:04Speaker 1: over time and have a lot of fun looking at
- 19:07Speaker 1: their works and all of that. But Matt, I had
- 19:10Speaker 1: to go cash in my tickets at the prize counter
- 19:13Speaker 1: at the Jedi Temple, and I'm going to see if
- 19:16Speaker 1: they have the galactic equivalent of little two cent Tutsi roles,
- 19:20Speaker 1: because I've got four million tickets here and I want
- 19:22Speaker 1: to see how many Tutsi rolls. That is. So, I
- 19:24Speaker 1: think it's time to close these negotiations.
- 19:28Speaker 2: John, negotiations are closed. Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
