- 1:56And I want to let you know that
- 1:58if you're thirsty, if you're hungry, feel free
- 2:00to grab some RO water.
- 2:01I have RO water here with lemon and
- 2:04it is very, very good.
- 2:06Fresh with the fresh lemon, it's a great
- 2:09refreshing thing.
- 2:10You don't have to do it just on
- 2:11a hot day, you can do it on
- 2:13a cool day.
- 2:14Lemon is good for the body.
- 2:16I know it refreshes you in a lot
- 2:18of different ways.
- 2:19So this topic this week is a very
- 2:22interesting one, I think one that a lot
- 2:24of us don't realize, but it's one that's
- 2:26very, very important to us.
- 2:29And we're definitely going to dive very, very
- 2:31deep into this topic, because I think this
- 2:35topic is something that a lot of us,
- 2:37you know, we hear about, but then we
- 2:39say, oh, you know, I'm not going to
- 2:40bother with it.
- 2:41I'm not going to deal with it.
- 2:42So let's go ahead, guys.
- 2:44If you're ready, I know I am.
- 2:46Let's kick this show off.
- 2:48So break free from what's been controlling your
- 2:51life.
- 2:51Series 5, show 42, episode number 3.
- 2:55Yes, guys, it is a Monday, it is
- 2:56October 12th, 2026.
- 2:58And welcome to the ever-popular inspirations for
- 3:01your life show.
- 3:02I'm John Seymour, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist,
- 3:06video producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, passionate
- 3:11lifelong learner, graduate student at Montclair State University,
- 3:14and so grateful now to be a published
- 3:16author.
- 3:17Our weekly journey is Stop Waiting for a
- 3:20Sign.
- 3:21Your freedom starts with action.
- 3:24Saturday, we learn to recognize what holds us
- 3:27back.
- 3:28Sunday, we learn to choose our own direction.
- 3:32Today, we break free.
- 3:36We break free.
- 3:38We raise a powerful question.
- 3:40If freedom is available, why do we keep
- 3:42returning to what restricts us?
- 3:45Here are 30 ways to turn the questions
- 3:49that we often have in life into serious
- 3:52action.
- 3:53Are you ready?
- 3:53All right.
- 3:55Number one, freedom begins when you recognize what
- 3:58has power over you.
- 4:00Maybe it's fear, it's the need for approval,
- 4:03or an old routine.
- 4:05Name the influence before you try to change
- 4:08it, and I think you'll get a different
- 4:10perspective.
- 4:11You might decide that you don't want to
- 4:12change it.
- 4:13You might decide that you're happy with it
- 4:15and have learned that it could be a
- 4:17big help to you in your life.
- 4:20So I think that's a very important one.
- 4:22Number two, guys, not every restriction comes from
- 4:26someone else.
- 4:27Sometimes the rules holding us back are rules
- 4:30we've quietly imposed on ourselves without even us
- 4:34being aware of it.
- 4:36Number three, old habits can become invisible chains.
- 4:41Repeating a behavior for years doesn't make it
- 4:43helpful.
- 4:45Familiarity can disguise its coat.
- 4:49And I think we don't pay attention to
- 4:52this unless we're actually in it.
- 4:56You know, like we're in the rain, we're
- 4:57in the storm.
- 4:58That's when it becomes apparent to us.
- 5:06Understanding these things is key, okay?
- 5:12And it's key, it's really key.
- 5:16Number four, stop confusing your history with your
- 5:19identity.
- 5:20What happened before may shape your experience, but
- 5:24it doesn't have to dictate who you become
- 5:27in life.
- 5:28I think a lot of people said, well,
- 5:30you know, this is the only way you're
- 5:31going to do something.
- 5:32No, guys, it's not the only way.
- 5:33It's just one way you could do something.
- 5:36I think that's an important piece that a
- 5:38lot of people don't really understand.
- 5:40And they realize that, well, wait a minute,
- 5:42maybe there is more to this than I
- 5:44actually thought.
- 5:46Just maybe there's more to it, right?
- 5:48Maybe.
- 5:49And that maybe might just be what leads
- 5:52you to success.
- 5:55Number five, recognize the beliefs that keep you
- 5:59feeling powerless.
- 6:00Challenge statements like, I never succeed with evidence.
- 6:04Not automatic agreement, okay?
- 6:07Under the freedom includes responsibility.
- 6:11We have to know that.
- 6:13Choosing your direction also means owning your actions
- 6:16and their consequences so you can celebrate the
- 6:21good and the bad.
- 6:22So if you do something good, great, celebrate
- 6:24it.
- 6:24But if you do something that causes harm,
- 6:27either intentionally or not intentionally, you need to
- 6:29also be accountable for that.
- 6:31I know most people may do it, of
- 6:33course, unintentionally, which is what I hope, not
- 6:35intentionally, but you still got to be responsible
- 6:37for that, right?
- 6:39Number seven, guys, release the need to control
- 6:42every outcome.
- 6:43You can prepare, act thoughtfully, and respond well
- 6:47without controlling everything that follows it.
- 6:51Number eight, stop returning to patterns simply because,
- 6:56well, they're comfortable, they're familiar.
- 6:59The comfortable choice may not help you grow.
- 7:02And I said this before.
- 7:03Success does not begin where it's comfy, where
- 7:07it's warm, where it's cool.
- 7:09No, it starts where it's a little hard,
- 7:12where it's a little confusing, where it might
- 7:13be rough, where it is a little uncomfortable.
- 7:17I didn't say painful.
- 7:18I just said the word uncomfortable.
- 7:20So stop returning to those patterns.
- 7:22Number nine, identify one unhealthy habit you're ready
- 7:28to challenge.
- 7:28Be specific about it.
- 7:30A clearly named habit is easier to address
- 7:33than a vague wish to improve one.
- 7:36So when we get specific about something and
- 7:39we talk about it, it's like, oh, wait
- 7:40a minute.
- 7:41And now it's not just something that's a
- 7:44verb or a noun.
- 7:45It actually has a place in our life,
- 7:47and I think that's very, very important.
- 7:48Number 10, replace automatic reactions with intentional responses.
- 7:55Give yourself a moment to decide how you
- 7:57want to respond instead of repeating yesterday's reflex.
- 8:02And reflex is happy, like, oh, I guess
- 8:04I don't need to think.
- 8:05Wrong.
- 8:07But if you keep doing that, your mind's
- 8:09going to be like, I'm not thinking.
- 8:11You're right.
- 8:11So you got to break that pattern.
- 8:14Number 11, guys, recognize when guilt is keeping
- 8:18you stuck.
- 8:20Healthy remorse can guide repair, but endless guilt
- 8:24can keep you from the next constructive step,
- 8:28okay?
- 8:29Learn from mistakes without living inside them.
- 8:33Take the lesson.
- 8:35Make amends when needed.
- 8:38And refuse to play the same moment forever.
- 8:46That's key, guys.
- 8:48You don't need to be a martyr, guys.
- 8:51You need to live life, and you need
- 8:53to make changes that can make a big
- 8:55difference for you and others, okay?
- 9:02I think that's a key piece, right?
- 9:07And if we understand that, we can make
- 9:09a lot of changes.
- 9:13And hopefully, that means that you know what's
- 9:17going on in your life, and you know
- 9:19that you can make changes, right?
- 9:22You know that you can make those changes
- 9:24in your life every single day.
- 9:26So learn from mistakes without living inside them.
- 9:31Take the lesson.
- 9:33Make amends where needed.
- 9:34And refuse to replay the same moment, as
- 9:36I said, forever.
- 9:37I want to repeat that for you.
- 9:39Number 13, stop allowing embarrassment to prevent growth.
- 9:44Learning often requires being seen before you're polished.
- 9:48Don't let that stop you from going on
- 9:51stage or getting out in the world.
- 9:53I think that's an important one, guys.
- 9:56Number 14, understand the personal freedom of you
- 10:00requires healthy boundaries.
- 10:02Protect your time, your values, and well-being
- 10:05with clear expectations.
- 10:08Say no when saying yes would violate your
- 10:12priorities.
- 10:13A respectful no can create room for the
- 10:17commitments that truly matter to you.
- 10:21But I know when you start, you'll be
- 10:22like, oh, John, you know, I don't know
- 10:24what I want to do.
- 10:24I have no idea what I really want
- 10:26to do, right?
- 10:28You have no idea.
- 10:31But what would the idea be if you
- 10:33did?
- 10:35Number 16, stop carrying responsibilities that don't belong
- 10:39to you.
- 10:40You can care about people without owning every
- 10:43problem they face.
- 10:45That's a key, guys.
- 10:47Number 17, recognize that independence does not mean
- 10:52isolation.
- 10:53Freedom doesn't require doing everything alone or refusing
- 10:57every helping hand.
- 11:00That's key, guys.
- 11:01Very, very key.
- 11:03Number 18, seek support without surrendering your choices.
- 11:08Ask for perspective, consider good advice, and remain
- 11:12accountable for your own decisions.
- 11:16Not because you're trying to put a show
- 11:17on, but because you're trying to do the
- 11:20right thing in life.
- 11:21I think sometimes when we try to do
- 11:22the right thing, it causes some challenges.
- 11:28It does cause some challenges.
- 11:30And those challenges will sometimes get us to
- 11:32walk away from the fire instead of to
- 11:34walk through it or to use it to
- 11:37our best advantage.
- 11:39Number 19, guys, permit yourself to develop new
- 11:44beliefs.
- 11:45New knowledge can change how you see yourself
- 11:47and what's really possible in our world.
- 11:51I think sometimes we get scared because we've
- 11:57seen someone else have a challenge.
- 11:59And we're not that person, OK?
- 12:03We're not that person.
- 12:04We're somebody else.
- 12:10Invest in yourself.
- 12:12I don't just mean financially.
- 12:14I mean in your beliefs, guys.
- 12:17You don't believe that can be a big
- 12:18problem, right?
- 12:21Believe, believe, believe, believe, believe.
- 12:25Number 20, guys, please stop defining yourself by
- 12:30someone else's expectations.
- 12:32Listen with respect, yes.
- 12:35OK?
- 12:37But don't you dare let another person's preferences
- 12:42become your entire identity.
- 12:43I see this happen so much.
- 12:44It happens a lot in grammar school.
- 12:49It happens in high school.
- 12:51It even happens in college.
- 12:53People say, well, you know, if you do
- 12:54this, then that's how you're going to be.
- 12:57You're going to have to change if you
- 12:58want to be someone.
- 13:01That's very clever, a very bad manipulation.
- 13:07And the sad part is people fall for
- 13:09it.
- 13:10And then you're saying, well, what else do
- 13:14I have to do?
- 13:14I don't have any choices.
- 13:18You have a choice to not choose.
- 13:20What do I mean by that?
- 13:21You have a choice to not act.
- 13:23And not just waiting around for something else.
- 13:26See, people prey on innocent victims.
- 13:32It's not nice, but they do it.
- 13:34And the reason they do it is because
- 13:37they're hoping to cash in on you.
- 13:40Really bad, really terrible.
- 13:42Number 21, recognize that breaking free may feel
- 13:46uncomfortable.
- 13:48New boundaries and behaviors can feel unfamiliar, even
- 13:51when they're healthy, guys.
- 13:53They're healthy.
- 13:54So number 22, create distance from influences that
- 14:00reinforce harmful patterns.
- 14:04That might mean simply adjusting your environment, routines,
- 14:07or access to distractions.
- 14:09That might be limiting or making sure someone
- 14:14else stays out of your energy or your
- 14:15life.
- 14:18You don't have to be rude about it,
- 14:20but you can make this choice.
- 14:22And no one can stop you from making
- 14:24that choice, guys.
- 14:25No one.
- 14:28So don't think that just because you're starting,
- 14:31you don't have a chance.
- 14:34Everyone who's ever been someone, ever did something,
- 14:37ever achieved something, they had to start somewhere.
- 14:42Before people take a step, you have to
- 14:45take the first one.
- 14:46And I know the first one is extremely,
- 14:49extremely scary.
- 14:50It's extremely scary.
- 14:52But I think it's one that a lot
- 14:53of people don't realize in life.
- 14:56But we've got to take that step, that
- 14:59step that's going to say, wait a minute.
- 15:01I have more power than I thought was
- 15:04possible.
- 15:06And then you start to build this wall
- 15:10of real confidence that you can achieve anything.
- 15:14And it's that energy, it's that spirit, it's
- 15:17that drive that gets you to be in
- 15:19alignment with the things you need, whether that's
- 15:21energy, whether that's people, whether it's knowledge.
- 15:26It comes to you.
- 15:28Number 22, create what you need and replace
- 15:37the one limiting routine with a constructive action.
- 15:42Don't only remove the old behaviors.
- 15:45Decide what useful action will be taken as
- 15:47place, number 23.
- 15:49Number 24, understand that lasting change takes repetition.
- 15:56One good decision matters.
- 15:59But repeated decisions build a new pattern you
- 16:02can rely upon also.
- 16:08So that can change your whole trajectory.
- 16:11That could change your belief in life.
- 16:14That could change whether you believe you could
- 16:18do something or not.
- 16:19And we've said before, like Henry Ford has
- 16:21said, if you believe you can, you're right.
- 16:22If you believe you're wrong, you're also right.
- 16:27That's key, guys.
- 16:31It's very key.
- 16:37And we know, ladies and gentlemen, that this
- 16:39is so powerful.
- 16:43Number 25, don't confuse one setback with losing
- 16:48your freedom.
- 16:49An interruption is a moment, like a bump
- 16:53in the road.
- 16:54It's not a life sentence.
- 16:55So choose your next response.
- 17:00And be aware of the environment.
- 17:06Be aware of the environment.
- 17:10Be aware of the environment.
- 17:13Protect the progress you've already made.
- 17:16And notice what helps you stay on course.
- 17:18And make those supports part of everyday lives.
- 17:23Number 27, guys, celebrate decisions that reflect your
- 17:28own inner core values.
- 17:31Recognize the quiet wins, especially when doing the
- 17:35right thing wasn't easy.
- 17:37I've said this before.
- 17:41You build character in private.
- 17:44And that develops into your reputation in public.
- 17:50Number 28, recognize freedom as something you practice
- 17:53daily.
- 17:54It lives in your schedule, your boundaries, responses,
- 17:58and the choices you make each day.
- 18:01Not just in the dramatic declarations that you
- 18:04make when you think you need to.
- 18:06Number 29, choose one action that demonstrates greater
- 18:12independence.
- 18:14Make the call.
- 18:15Set the boundary.
- 18:16Or take the first responsible step yourself.
- 18:20Don't wait for somebody else.
- 18:25Don't wait for somebody else.
- 18:27Because when you take the steps yourself, it's
- 18:29like, oh, wait a minute.
- 18:31I get this.
- 18:32I understand this.
- 18:34But I know that it can get a
- 18:36lot of people to be frustrated.
- 18:41It can get people to feel very, very
- 18:43frustrated.
- 18:46Frustrated because you don't necessarily know where you're
- 18:50going, what you're doing.
- 18:54That's important, guys.
- 18:58Very, very, very important.
- 19:03And that little difference can make, well, the
- 19:08difference between you being a success and you
- 19:12sitting on the bench.
- 19:15Nobody wants to sit on the bench.
- 19:17But people only sit on the bench because
- 19:19they feel they're not worthy enough to get
- 19:21into the game.
- 19:22You're worthy.
- 19:22Everyone's worthy to play the game of life.
- 19:26Number 30, guys, stand firm in the freedom
- 19:30you're working to create.
- 19:32Don't return automatically to what you worked so
- 19:36hard to leave behind.
- 19:39I mean, you might say, well, John, it's
- 19:41difficult today.
- 19:43It's hard.
- 19:45I don't know if I can go on.
- 19:51I can relate to that.
- 19:52I broke my TIB and FIB 10 years
- 19:54ago.
- 19:56And breaking a TIB and FIB and having
- 19:59no one around.
- 20:01Now, no one close.
- 20:02Not that no one cared.
- 20:04But there was no one close.
- 20:05They were out of state.
- 20:08It was lonely.
- 20:09And it was also a moment where I
- 20:11was like, what's happening?
- 20:16It was very surreal.
- 20:20So stand firm.
- 20:21You deserve that.
- 20:23Don't just fall into the process.
- 20:27Because when you do, you lose your intentionality,
- 20:34which won't operate on core values.
- 20:38Which will block the potential of you becoming
- 20:42the next success.
- 20:45Ladies and gentlemen, I hope that's been very
- 20:47clear.
- 20:48But here's your Monday challenge.
- 20:50Are you ready for it?
- 20:52I know you are.
- 20:54Identify one pattern.
- 20:57You're ready to release.
- 20:58Then choose one healthier behavior to practice in
- 21:02its place.
- 21:03Make their placement specific enough to try tomorrow.
- 21:06For example, maybe your challenge that you want
- 21:12to release is the fact that you always
- 21:15say yes to people.
- 21:17One thing you could do is think about
- 21:21the situation.
- 21:22Decide if you really want to do it.
- 21:24Or let them know that, hey, I need
- 21:26to think about it.
- 21:28Oh, we got to know.
- 21:29I'll let you know.
- 21:32Take back that power.
- 21:33All right.
- 21:36Then choose that one healthy behavior to practice
- 21:40in its place.
- 21:41Make their placement specific enough to try tomorrow.
- 21:44Guess what, guys?
- 21:45Once you try this once, I guarantee you,
- 21:48you're going to want to try it again
- 21:49and again and again and again.
- 21:52That behavior will become autonomous.
- 21:55But be intentional about the behaviors you wish
- 22:03to become automatic.
- 22:06This week, Saturday was we recognize.
- 22:09Sunday was choosing.
- 22:11Today, we broke free.
- 22:15Tomorrow, ladies and gentlemen, we're going to stand
- 22:17firm together.
- 22:20Wednesday, we're going to trust.
- 22:24Thursday, we're going to rise again.
- 22:27And Friday, we are going to live free.
- 22:32A lot of you are probably saying, oh
- 22:33my gosh, John.
- 22:34This is a lot for one day.
- 22:40Nobody said you have to do all this
- 22:42at night or do all this in one
- 22:44day.
- 22:45Nobody said that.
- 22:47What I did say is you're going to
- 22:49take one consistent step at a time.
- 22:54Not five steps tomorrow, not 10 steps, two
- 22:58steps or three steps.
- 22:59You should take three steps every single day.
- 23:01That's probably the most important thing that I
- 23:03can share with you is to be consistent
- 23:06in everything you do.
- 23:09A wise person once said to me, John,
- 23:12I said, I didn't do anything.
- 23:14Yes, you did.
- 23:15You showed up.
- 23:17Showing up is 80% of success.
- 23:21Got to have a good attitude, which I
- 23:22do.
- 23:23So show up with an attitude, and you're
- 23:24already at 80%.
- 23:26The other 20% is just skill and
- 23:29opportunities and the environment.
- 23:33That's powerful, guys.
- 23:36And I know as you ponder this, you
- 23:39say, well, how do I break free from
- 23:40this change?
- 23:41How do I get my life back?
- 23:47How do I get off the merry-go
- 23:49-round that keeps spinning faster and faster and
- 23:52faster?
- 23:54How do I make my days go slower?
- 23:59The answer to that is become more intentional
- 24:01in everything you do.
- 24:04Savor the flavor of life.
- 24:06Savor the flavor of life.
- 24:08Because when you do, you can then choose
- 24:11to be in life, as opposed to just
- 24:14watching it.
- 24:15When we watch it, it goes by very,
- 24:17very fast.
- 24:18When we're in it and we're enjoying it,
- 24:21we can take our time.
- 24:23And we can make differences that people on
- 24:26the sidelines would be like, how did you
- 24:28do that?
- 24:31When you're intentional and that aligns with your
- 24:34core values, you're operating on a completely different
- 24:40level.
- 24:41One that is aware of the things around
- 24:47him or her.
- 24:50One that notices, is aware, and is able
- 24:54to just be ready to seize opportunity.
- 24:59The same opportunities out there exist for you
- 25:01and for me.
- 25:03There's a difference.
- 25:05Are you looking for the opportunities?
- 25:07Because they're there for you.
- 25:09They're knocking on your door.
- 25:11Are you going to answer the door?
- 25:13Or are you going to say, oh, I'm
- 25:14in the shower.
- 25:15Or no, I'm having dinner.
- 25:17Or oh, I'm with a friend.
- 25:21That knock may come once.
- 25:25Now, you might say, the door will show
- 25:28up twice.
- 25:32But here's the catch.
- 25:34If the door should show up a second
- 25:36time, don't expect to get in because you
- 25:40probably won't.
- 25:41The door, if it shows up a second
- 25:42time, will be locked.
- 25:46Will be locked.
- 25:47So the door is here.
- 25:49It's right in front of you.
- 25:50And it is open right now.
- 25:53Go in.
- 25:55If you wait, the door will be gone.
- 25:59And then it might turn up again.
- 26:01And what it does, you're going to be
- 26:02like, oh, I can't get in.
- 26:08Opportunity knocks once.
- 26:11Will you be the victim saying, why didn't
- 26:17I open that door?
- 26:19I was too busy.
- 26:20I was too preoccupied.
- 26:24Everybody does this.
- 26:25And then they wonder what's going to happen
- 26:27or what's going to go on.
- 26:28And it's like, I don't know.
- 26:31I figured opportunity would knock twice.
- 26:34It doesn't always.
- 26:37And when it knocks a second time, even
- 26:39if that door gets open, it'll become 10
- 26:44times or 100 times harder to walk through
- 26:48it.
- 26:51I think that's something I want you to
- 26:52ponder today.
- 26:55So tomorrow, you can hopefully take these steps
- 26:58that I've shared with you.
- 26:59You could choose to implement them in your
- 27:01own personal and business life.
- 27:02Tomorrow, yes, when the sun comes out.
- 27:07But the sun only comes out, regardless of
- 27:11the weather, when we choose to be intentional
- 27:15and to act from our core values, not
- 27:20from the Joneses, not from the Marksons, not
- 27:22from the Wagners, not from the bandwagon techniques.
