- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: I'm surprised we don't have like an active like ticket, you know, a situation like, you know, where people are selling tickets and stuff like that.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I've tried.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_04]: I've tried to get us that sponsor for whatever reason.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_04]: It just has to work that.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_04]: By the way, we got three sponsors for today, and I'll get to those in the middle of the show.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_04]: I'll start with you Simon, it's from your neck of the woods, kind of, green bay.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: John Eric Sullivan, he's the new general manager of your Miami Dolphins.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_04]: initial thoughts on the process and then we're going to talk about the man and his philosophy, but the process of where we got here, because I'm kind of over the moon on this one.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I'm kind of in on it.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_04]: I had my suspicions.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_04]: I had my, I don't know if it was my PTSD, from previous iterations of looking for a general manager, but I kind of dig how they came about
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think your PTSD would have been fully justified at Troy, I'm going to hand it in part of the situation.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm really, really glad.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's my sensible thing that Stephen Ross has done in many years, actually, to bring in to bring in.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about, I mean, look, go back a year, 18 months, even in discord, people are asking us about who would have as GM's, Jolera Sullivan was on all of L.S.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: I've got it's been ready for a couple of years.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm kind of resisted the temptation to jump in part because of the situation that, you know, you're a perennial playoff and sort of energy championship-ish game type team in Green Bay.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, but like I can't argue with the process, I think they got exactly the right higher.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: I thought they had interesting interviews with guys.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think they catered for all tastes in terms of if we keep it down, you know there's a couple of guys here, if we don't there's a couple of guys here, we've got some flexibility of working with different coaches.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was interesting, you know, Champ Kelly was in the mix and all of those nothings come out.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: It seemed to sit, he seemed to indicate on that sort of passionate Instagram post that, you know, his family wouldn't have to move, so does that mean as a front office gig for him.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: Perhaps, I know he was certainly well-liked in the building, the player seemed to drive for them as well.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: So, but yeah, I look, I think it's an absolute home run.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, pluck from the best, you know, and the packers of historically over the last 20 years during the time that Sullivan has been at Green Bay and one of the best teams, they drafted, you know, Hall of Fame type players, well Hall of Fame plays and Aaron Rogers, you know, they've drafted outstanding players, they drafted all pros, they they've built in the right way or that's on the interior defensive line where that's the edge position or whether that's critically the offensive line you go through that list of players that, um,
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: that Sullivan's been a part of drafting, whether that's Darren Collage, Alan Barbra, or Sitten, or TJ Lang, or Marshall, New House, or Brian Belaga, or Jordan Morgan, or Zacton, or Josh Myers, and there's a whole great list of J.C. Treta, Corey Linsley, and there's eight all-pro offensive linemen they've drafted during his tenure, David Bacterari, and only two first round picks out of all these players.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just reading of it, old and Jenkins, you know, only to first-hand players.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: And that's really been the issue.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I think one of the things for Green Bay is that, you know, we were just talking about, it's just before we started recording.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: And how, you know, unlucky, it's probably not the right word, but, you know, when you're up by double digits.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: you know, and the final nookings of a game any you end up losing.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's a testament to the depth they had given the players that were out, you know, especially that defense you look into one who might be out, look at Lucas Fadness, the first round people from a couple of years who have been on a pitch count like a Parsons, obviously being out into a coupe was out the game.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I'm just thinking just on that defense for example, I think it's testament to the death and I think it's just the one thing that dolphins have historically been really poor on you go back to the 23 and 22 drafts as I need to have on a channel.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: The one player that might be down here kind of bang the table for is the only place on the roster from that and I think you look at green base drafts through that time and.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: some of those players aren't stars, but the certainly just depth that you can go to in terms of just having people that can step into the void when a star goes down and perform to a level that helps you, you know, get into the playoffs.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: And frankly, a playoff game they should have won.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: So to me, I thought the process was excellent.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: I love the fact that 8man was involved.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: I love the fact that he's still involved coaching Chris.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: And to me, John Aerex 11 is the absolute perfect man
- 6:05[SPEAKER_03]: TLDR go back and what did you say eight all-pro-lumming?
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, without without without hardly drafting any in the first round.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that'll satisfy the fans.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: But then the second thing is is what was revealed about him with Jordan Love and how he was the, you know, he was the first basically on Jordan Love there and and really, you know, pounded the table for him.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_03]: And they had a tricky situation with Aaron Rodgers obviously, so if you're talking about foresight and you know that classic green bay foresight really Where they drafted Aaron Rodgers originally with Brett Farf still there and then they they drafted Jordan love with Aaron Rodgers still there and the reason that they have had this smooth transition.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: is because of their ability to pick quarterbacks and show that sort of foresight to where they don't just like have to go shopping for whatever quarterback is available.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like that's that's how I almost every other team does it.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_03]: You know, that's that's that's very attractive.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_03]: It was a strange process to me in that it was a it was
- 7:16[SPEAKER_03]: highly foreshadowed, which is to say that right away, all the initial reports, every single media member reported, they're looking for a strong scouting background, scouts scouts scouts and then the interview slate comes out and a lot of these guys aren't really scouts.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_03]: And so it was, it was a little bit strange, but then when they got to the final
- 7:40[SPEAKER_03]: you know, I think it was a final pair, really, between John Eric Sullivan and Chad Alexander, there were scouts.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so sort of like, you know, we said something at the beginning.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_03]: We were kind of like a little questionable in the middle and then we got to exactly where we said in the end.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_03]: And the only question that I would have about the process is the sort of, you know, we've talked about needing to do a clean sweep and, you know, start over which I'm sure that will happen in the front office.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_03]: But the clean sweep, in this case, will still involve, you know, brand and chore who is, you know, an institutionalized member of that front office who is, you know,
- 8:26[SPEAKER_03]: And he will be empowered and he's going to have the first string.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to be able to set the budgets.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to be able to set the resource allocation strategy for the team.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like he, you know, will be the guy that's a guy that's amateur fall to Steve Ross.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_03]: himself and almost co-equal to the general manager in in in ways.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_03]: And that's a big powerful position.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of the background of the guy that I would have rather hired at GM, you know, is somebody who has that background in that ability to make executive decisions.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_03]: and we've talked about that plenty before.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_03]: They're going with this structure and I hope it works.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's worked in other places around the league.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_03]: It really has.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, all good things, all good hopes there.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_03]: I do think that as far as what they set out to do to get a scout.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_03]: They got the guy, you know, they got the one, you know, that was, that was the one that you would have settled on.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_03]: I almost would have had a little bit of an achy feeling if they settled on Chad Alexander because of his proximity to John Harbaugh and attempt to, you know, just to lure Harbaugh in, but instead they went with the guy that we had been told.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_03]: you know, long before they settled on him would be their top guy.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_03]: The guy that Troy Ackman respected, you know, and you talked about him being part of that process.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, yeah, you get a scout scout, you pair him with Brandon Shore as it was in an empowered position.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_03]: Hopefully Brandon Shore's got a nice portfolio of things that he can show,
- 10:09[SPEAKER_03]: you know disagreements that he had and so on and so forth with the decisions that they made, they empowered him for a reason which suggests that he was not empowered before and you know could not make these decisions himself before.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_03]: So hopefully there's a good record there and hopefully they you know really know how to strategically and afford thinking manner manipulate the
- 10:37[SPEAKER_03]: because that's what the game is about now.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, I think there's all kinds of reasons.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody that I've talked to has been very bullish on this for once.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's almost odd.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's almost odd talking to Dalton fans around, you know, and everybody's like, oh yeah, we did it right for once, you know, and that's a good sign.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_03]: That's a great sign for the owner because, you know, everybody's not kind of like, I don't know about this.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: No, everybody's like, hey, we did it right for once.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_04]: Now as far as the philosophy and I'll start with you Simon, I want to give a lot of credit to Travis Winfield.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_04]: He did some of the legwork on this.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: I did some of the rest and it's kind of clear.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_04]: He likes or I'll say it's not fair to say okay, every good decision that the Packers I've ever made belongs to John I recently.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_04]: Let's just say that he had a hand.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_04]: The Packers have liked
- 11:34[SPEAKER_04]: guys with miniscule to non-existent injury histories, which my God, when I wrote, they spent two drafts taking guys that had at least two complete seasons in college.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_04]: So that tells me that they're actually looking at stuff like that, what a breath of fresh air, and of course, all the video and audio you hear on John Erick Sullivan.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_04]: He's a football player.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_04]: He's gonna, he's gonna look at that offensive line.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_04]: He's gonna say, we gotta hold here, we gotta hold there, we're going to fill it.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_04]: So your thoughts on his philosophy because I'm kinda in on pretty much everything that the Packers have done.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_04]: The only thing that the Packers haven't done is actually won the ultimate prize.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_04]: But there's reasons for that as well.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to get into some of that in the second show.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you're on that timing.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, Sullivan's won a Super Bowl, obviously.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he won a Super with the packet as so.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that the injury thing is really important.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it would potentially rule out some players that I think we're getting talked about in the first round.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: And we keep getting mocked a couple of players who I just think I just don't see any reason or any
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: way that we would go near them and two of those immediately would be Jamod McCoy, who's the Tennessee cornerback, who had great tape in 2024, but hasn't played a single snap.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_02]: It tore his ACL in January, hasn't played our last January, hasn't played a single, didn't play a single snap last season.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't see any way that the dolphins would draft him in the first round.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: And the second is, and I really like him, but Jordan Tyson.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: who I'd received from Arizona State, who backed about years, had significant injuries.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: This year, a significant hamstring tear last year, a broken colabone, the year before torn ACLM CL and PCL.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: And I just don't necessarily see those being played.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: As they can, I've just seen a mock draft literally, as we start just as I was waiting to log into the chat.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: Look at the drop of a mock draft from one of the, might have been A to Z, or one of the,
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: Drothnet work, one of those guys, and had mocked us to Jordan Tyson, and I just don't see those, that being a thing, and that, you know, positions, I think they have generally have size, weight height thresholds.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the packers famously don't draft wide receivers in the first round, I mean, another drafted Matthew Golden this year.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: But beyond that, you know,
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: They very much look at offensive line, edge rushes, they're not scared to take lineback as they're not scared to take defensive backs.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, they're taking corners.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: You look at gyro Alexander and Kevin King, Demarius Randall is a safety kind of corner hybrid, Harclinton Dix.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: They're happy taking defensive backs in the first round.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: They're certainly happy taking offensive linemen, Brian Belargo and and guys like that and they're very happy taking.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: you know, interior and edge guys, whether that's B.J.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: Raji, whether that's Nick Perry, whether that's Dayton Jones, whether that's Devonti Wyatt, that's Kenny Clark, you know, players like that, they've taken historically with Shane Gary, all in the first round.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: they've taken Lucas Van Ness in 23 and they're very, very happy to do that.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's building those positions that Miami historically haven't drafted well at generally.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: And we have holes to feel very much everywhere, but I would strongly think that there's going to be some key positions that Sullivan will target and I don't think you'll move off.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: What has been a historical
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: draft track for him and that's partly due to the history of the pack as well.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's Ron Wolf, where that's Ted Thompson, where that's Brian Gutenkenz and obviously he didn't work under Wolf, but his influence was very much still there when Sullivan was coming through the ranks.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously he was hired by Ted Thompson and then his work for the last seven or eight years under Gutenkenz and that philosophy is remain the same Chris.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that one thing that goes under probably undersold about them a little bit and even for myself, you know, there were kind of two molds that I was looking at for a general manager, there's one, you know, if you're kind of an executive kind of guy.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_03]: which we've talked about before but there's also you know if you're a scout scout but also you're kind of you bleed into the coaching area and that's really attractive to me.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: The the point is you want a guy that kind of can can you know multitasking two different areas or speak speak intelligently to to two different things not just you know the being on the scouting trail and this
- 16:10[SPEAKER_03]: legendary wide receiver coach Jerry Sullivan who could have gone into coaching himself.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_03]: And it's talked about it like you know he's talked about that the only reason he's not in coaching is because he probably it's not his strong suit to have the patience to teach.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_03]: He'd rather just evaluate.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_03]: And, but this is clearly a guy that had a reputation for being able to marry the scouting process to the particular coaching and the coaching needs and the ski.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_03]: And that was one of the first things that Albert Brewer talked about when he, when he did the rundown of all the next best GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM, GM,
- 16:50[SPEAKER_03]: interviews.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that that's a really attractive thing for Miami because, you know, that's where Miami.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_03]: I think that scouting per view or that coaching per view in the scouting department has been missing.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_03]: And perhaps that's why he that's why they have such a history of drafting healthy players because, you know, there's that scouting that coaching perspective that says availability is the best ability.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that was clearly missing for the dolphins over the years.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we've saw it, so I'm really excited about the sound health.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_03]: I'm really excited about the fact that he can really marry the scouting process into the coaching process and speak, and speak authoritatively that way.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: And then add on to it, obviously the offensive line background and the quarterback background.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's a that's that's a sale.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's a sale for you.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_04]: One thing I did like about, you know, that I've liked about green based drafts is something that I did like about one previous Miami
- 18:05[SPEAKER_04]: with Archetype for what we want.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_04]: Packers did that in 23.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_04]: I wasn't a huge look must grave fan and in fact I'm still not.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_04]: But they doubled back and took a craft in the third round after they took a look must grave in the second round.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_04]: Take a craft is probably a top five
- 18:26[SPEAKER_04]: so they got paid handsomely for for that philosophy.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to go to break and when we come back we're going to talk about the playoff games that we witnessed this weekend and how it kind of ties to some of the head coaching candidates.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_04]: But first let me tell you about
- 18:45[SPEAKER_04]: factor.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_04]: They are with us, not only for January, not for the run for the playoffs, to the Super Bowl.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_04]: They're with us for the 20, 20, 26 calendar year.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_04]: So we like to thank them.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_04]: So it's a new year, big goals, no time to cook.

- 24:01[SPEAKER_04]: If we're up to me, I'd be doing ads for like 60 minutes and then I'd say hello goodbye and see you next week.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, call it a podcast right there.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_04]: So let's take a backwards.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_04]: Let's talk about last night's game.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_04]: I think Christ didn't see too much of it, so I'll start with Simon a little bit here.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_04]: Jesse Mentor should be a head coach in candidate.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_04]: I understand everybody's like, oh my God, we're doing this again, the hot guy.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_04]: Look, as defense is really good, Drake may is really good.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_04]: That offense may not have a bunch of superstars on it, but they function.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_04]: Number two scoring offense in the NFL.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_04]: If it wasn't because their quarterback just short-circuited lice night, I think the charges are probably moving on because meant to kept that offense in check all night.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_04]: I kind of like Jesse Mentor, I don't think he's in my top three, but what did you make of that game last night?
- 24:54[SPEAKER_04]: And obviously, the guy that's going to come out of that game as a top candidate, Simon, Jesse Mentor.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: To be honest, I thought the Patriots were dominant pretty much.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't see, I mean, I sort of with the old 22 today, and there's a whole Justin Herbert conversation behind.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: But I just thought the dominant quarterback won, and that was made, his poise in the pocket is extraordinary for a second year player.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: his ability just to hold and not be fearful of contact or, you know, he, he just holds the defense for a split second and longer than most courtbacks do because he's so comfortable in the pocket there.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's so big and, and what Joshua Danes has done a great job of and they do it on almost every play is that there's a, there's a safety valve underneath and almost every passing play.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: You've literally got, usually, Travegan Henderson or Stevenson, maybe one of the Titans that always leaking out underneath, so he's always got an option to throw too.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_02]: But what that then does is once he's thrown to it two or three times, he'd just a safety just sneaks forwards or a live-ax sneaks forwards and they can work guys in behind were said do so brilliantly.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_02]: And he's so deadly accurate.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the throw over the fingertips of doing James for the touchdowns absolutely kind of millimeter perfect.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and how decisive he is as a runner is just as aggressive as he's fast as well.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: And look, in a way, I did feel sorry for Justin Herbert because, you know, he was getting beaten up.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: He was getting hit and awful lot.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought that, um, I thought the pages didn't outstanding job in terms of just how they played that on timing of blitzes and, uh, sim pressures and backing out and then coming and but he was getting hit and awful lot.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's a hard situation.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: He always got trigger on the happy, you know, he almost just didn't know into Paul and went to stick and went to twist, didn't help they got absolutely no help whatsoever in the run game either, you know, the dial couldn't get going, I'm already in Hampton couldn't get going.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't really throw to the tight end, I thought they did involved Gansson a lot more, but they really didn't, and you were just looking for someone to step up and, you know, Keenan is great, but, you know, he's great on this kind of,
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: He's not the guy that you're looking for when you're down 16-3 and you're trying to, you know, pick up explosives down the field, you know, McConkey kind of flattered to deceive a little bit and crint in Johnson after a hot start of this season sort of tailed off.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, the charges defense played well, but, you know, and they get pressure to two, two, two is a really good player.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously, day and head and day and day and day and day and day and day and day and day and day and so we just talked about our excellent, but
- 27:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought the pictures were pretty much in control of that game for a long period and annoyingly drag my his really really good.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the only thing I'll say for Jesse Mentor is that they they got off the field four times and kept a score six three for four possessions to hand it back to your quarterback like you got to expect more you get four possession six three like command man every time you keep coming back on to the field The score still the same it's six three it's a field goal get a something you know your thoughts Chris.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I think the point is fairly well made that, you know, despite Drake May performing pretty well, the total Patriot's offense, you know, 16 points is going to get it done most of the time.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_03]: And I think we know that.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_03]: So I think the charge is really, really kind of botched it and the Patriots defense played phenomenally well.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_03]: So give the Patriots defense a lot of credit there for what they did.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_03]: And obviously, there are protection issues with Justin Herbert.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_03]: At this point, it almost feels like punching down on Justin Herbert to talk about.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the end of seasons and the fact, I mean, let's be honest, it most coaches would love to coach Justin Herbert.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_03]: That's important, they would, you know, that's reality, but, you know, to this point, you know, six seasons in and he's been the playoffs three times.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: He's lost all three playoff games right away.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_03]: his quarterback rating in the playoffs is something like a 65.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_03]: He's, you know, taken a bunch of sacks.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_03]: He's, you know, he only has two touchdown pass in the playoffs and John Jennings now has two touchdown passes in the playoffs.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_03]: Um, you know, Herbert has two touchdowns and four interceptions.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think something like that.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_03]: And 55% completion.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's it's bad.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, take heart a little bit and already, you know, coming out of this one, people are talking about, is he going to retire early, like Andrew Luck, he's just beating up too much, you know, like, he's going to go, he's going to go to medical school, something like that, you know.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, feel bad for the guy, but the reality is, I think most coaches would love to coach him and, you know, flex, you know, kind of, kind of try their own hand at making
- 29:56[SPEAKER_03]: But he is kind of turning into a little bit of a coach killer.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: Now the one thing, the one solace for Chargers fans here is Yo back in history, Peyton Manning and Drew Breeze didn't win their first playoff games until they were like six seasons into their career too.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_03]: You know, people a lot of people don't know that.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that there is hope for him, if he keeps playing, if he sticks it out, I don't really know how serious it is about early retirement.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: Go to get rid of Greg Roman then.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, clearly they're kind of, they've been accused by some people playing dinosaur ball and stuff like that, I get it.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_03]: But you feel bad for him, but on the other hand, you know, give it up to the Patriots defense.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_03]: Milton Williams was, you know, just superb there.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_03]: And the pressure that they were getting constantly was, was, you know, phenomenal.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_03]: And yes, Herbert.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: couldn't pull a trigger a lot of things but but the Patriots played like a team that answers in the playoffs and that's exactly.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_04]: And by the way, my favorite my favorite thing from that game last night is that they put up the PFF rankings for every player.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_04]: First of all, it's the thing that I hate the most about football media, okay?
- 31:13[SPEAKER_04]: Is that the Sunday night football people put the PFF ranking for every player?
- 31:17[SPEAKER_04]: The thing I love the most is that they put the PFF ranking for Christine Gonzalez, and it said he's the 47th ranked quarterback in the NFL.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, he's he's the 47th right corner back.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we got to Chris sure.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_03]: No, but I mean, you know, the shame of it is that that's the game.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we're we're talking about for obvious reasons with Drake May and Patriots and the, um, and you know, even some interest with Justin Herbert and all of the games.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_03]: this weekend, you know, leading up to tonight, leading up to that were phenomenal games.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_03]: The best slate of playoff games I have ever stretch a playoff games I have ever seen.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, back we're going from third Saturday, the both games there, then the early games on Sunday as well.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like these were just all from, all,
- 32:07[SPEAKER_03]: just supreme playoff games a real I mean the NFL's got to be giddy about it because of the ratings and you know kind of what what what it what it does for creating interest in NFL playoff football but that was all of these games were just total barn burners.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_04]: working backwards, San Francisco.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know who's left there.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, like, if you look at that roster, if you look at the depth chart, my favorite depth chart to look up is shout out to our lads because they put little injury, detonation, staff, everybody.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_04]: And it looks like your screen is, it looks like your computer screen is bleeding.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_04]: When you put on the our lads,
- 32:50[SPEAKER_04]: The giant I mean 49ers depth chart because they have injuries pretty much at every single position and they've had injuries at every single position this season except running back oddly enough great coaching job But by a guy who I think is the absolute dark horse in our head coaching search in Robert Salah Yeah, and that's where we're we're headed toward first of all a little bit on the game
- 33:15[SPEAKER_04]: Chris, Nick Serriani running 45 yards to mother fuck AJ Brown.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_04]: What in the fuck was that?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_03]: That about your thoughts such a big such a big own goal with with the Philadelphia Eagles in that game.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_03]: Because you know, the 49ers should have been beatable.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think and you know you're right like to to go up there and do that with AJ Brown and you know the middle of the game Nobody on the desk at half time you know could could stomach what he did there and sure enough AJ Brown had another you know kind of key drop
- 33:52[SPEAKER_03]: afterwards, and which, yes, put the blame on that for AJ Brown, but you're not helping yourself, Nick Serriana, you really aren't.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, the Philadelphia Eagles are going to have a lot to think about, but also with that salary cap structure that they're running, the number one, you know, pretty much number one in debt.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_03]: of any team and with a 2029 I think it is where it's questionable whether they can like literally even feel the football team.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_03]: Based on based on the amount of debt that they will have come do.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_03]: And that year, and I'm being 100% serious here, that's not an exaggeration, you know, that you wonder at this is this the end, have we seen the end of the Philadelphia Eagles like they are on it and I know that, you know, there's some, I'm sure there's some relevant old ancient Chinese proverbs here, but, but you know, how he rosemen can easily go from
- 34:54[SPEAKER_03]: you know, a hero amongst GMs to the absolute, you know, uh, uh, uh, uh, I don't want to say laughing stock, but you know, people are not going to envy the Philadelphia Eagles and their salary cap position, but give it up for the, for the, for the San Francisco 49ers, um, the one thing that, you know, we're, we need to talk about these coaches and that we're going to interview for the dolphins, but Robert Salais, the thing that he has going for him is that,
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: He sort of gone both ways where he went from a good team that has a good history and good structure, and he tried to bring it to a shitty team with a blank slate and try to establish it himself, which is the path that let's be honest, the overwhelming majority of all NFL head coaches in history and present, that is the path that they have taken.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: They're a part of good
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and that's, and so he's gone that he has fallen through those, you know, fallen in those traps and knows those obstacles.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: But then he went immediately back to the Green Bay Packers.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_03]: We were just talking about as a class organization that year.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_03]: And then the following year to the San Francisco 49ers and as part of a very improbable playoff run and one of the best coaching jobs of the entire season with Kyle Shanahan.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, talk about being able to compare contrast columns A and B.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_03]: Right, like he gets to see in 2024, what was wrong and what he couldn't accomplish with the jets and then go back in 2025 and go back to the class organization back to the successful team and say, ah, there it is again there there's, you know, this is this is what we weren't able to do and if I had it to all to do all over again.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_03]: He's probably in the best position to know what he didn't know, back then.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, aside from John Harbaugh, of course, or, you know, even perhaps Kevin Stupansky, I think that Robert Salle, you could have, Salle, you could have, even argues in a better position than Stupansky that way, because he's gone back and forth with those.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_03]: That's what makes him attractive, is not just a culture leader and a tough guy.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_03]: Defensive guy in a strong defensive mind a very strong defensive mind, which he showed last night But that he has that experience that you know, there's a lot of these guys out there They don't know what they don't know and and he's had an opportunity to learn that Yeah, Calshan and Slays the Vic Fengio dragon.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if you have anything else on this game Simon, we move on Josh Allen
- 37:35[SPEAKER_04]: Jaguars, this was a good game.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_04]: For whatever reason Liam Cohen comes out at halftime and they ask him, what are you going to do?
- 37:41[SPEAKER_04]: And he says, we got to get back the basics.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_04]: We got to run the football.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_04]: We got to get back to getting on third and two.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_04]: They commenced to not run the football.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_04]: I just have Trevor Lovers just threw it all over the last at one point I believe them I think you know, but this is the naivety of me, you know, I see the successful coach that went 13 games and he says we gotta get back to running the football and I believe him right Sure enough, I won't point in this game they had every running back on the roster
- 38:09[SPEAKER_04]: averaging over 10 yards of carry and they had over 120 yards rushing 10 yards a carry and they just said you know You know Trevor Lawrence here throwing six consecutive passes on one drive might be a good idea I'll start with you Simon since he didn't have anything for the last one that game My god good game bills Resurrect themselves and they're moving on against the Jaguar
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've got a friend who said about six weeks ago that the bills were absolutely done.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_02]: His name's Alf.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_04]: To be first, then they got de-throne from the FCEs, and they almost lost to the Jaguars in the first round.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but they didn't know, and if I had balls, she'd be my uncle.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: So, there, again, I was having this conversation with the mate yesterday, an English friend, and we were talking about the fact that you can make a legitimate case of pretty much every team that's left in the play office.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I said, you know, I couldn't pick a winner, you know, a Seattle.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can sit in for five minutes, two while they were in the soup bowl, all the rounds, all the bears, all the Texans, or whatever.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it comes down for quarterbacks, and the best quarterbacks left in the play
- 39:20[SPEAKER_02]: Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen and Alan showed us the you know the strength I can't wait for one quarter the fourth yeah I mean he made the throw of the season on that fourth and eight play to Ramadon's
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: look, you go back and look at the way that Alan was beaten up in the first half of the concussion technique, the knee that got twisted, all the different hits that he took, you know, the big throw down the field and they needed it to Brandon Cooks, you know, standing in tall, getting absolutely rocked, you know.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_04]: By the way, hey, to interrupt you, when Gade Davis got injured and Brandon Cooks got inserted into the, at the starting lineup, I'm like, that's a mistake for the Jaguars.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's definitely tread on the cook's tires as it was proven a couple of times when he got open and it showed that the bills, the capable of moving the bull down the field by really spreading the bull now and using six or seven different receivers when James Cook was going throw it up and that answered the company there's defenses is outstanding.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: But again, you know, and it's a cliche but it's a cliche because it's true, you know, Alan puts on the the Superman cape and
- 40:23[SPEAKER_02]: and the bills get home.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: I do, I think Trevor Lawrence said next the season.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think the marriage of him and Liam Cohen is excellent.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_02]: I do sometimes wonder why he threw the ball into the middle of the field and risked what he did on that.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_02]: You know, look, I know that Jacob Myers got both hands on the ball.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, it was tight coverage, but, you know, when you get both hands on the ball, you kind of wanted to bring it down.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: But that's such a risk, especially when Cole Bishop, who's such a ball hook, who's playing Robo there, you know, Cole Bishop's had an outstanding season.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_02]: Some of the missed tackles are a bit wild.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_02]: And it gets a bit crazy when it comes to the to the tackling part of his game.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: But the reading of the, you know, especially in in the passing game, his reading of what's going on is just outstanding and he was just sat there as a Robo and was doing over and over again.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: and the ball about something the only new who was going to come down with it and yeah I just questioned that decision but yeah buffalo march on and again I can make a case for the bills going to the super
- 41:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yep, they're going to have to do it on the road, but, you know, they got the right quarterback for sure.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_04]: Packers, Packers bears, somebody said it best on Twitter, and I'll start with you Chris.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_04]: Caleb Williams is is a bottom five quarterback in the NFL in the first three quarters.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_04]: But a top five quarterback in the NFL in the fourth quarter.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_04]: And my god, if you look at his splits, like, he does look like, and sometimes in the same game, he'll look like absolute garbage, like he did in this game.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yet, bad body language, he screaming at his teammates on the sideline, and looks like they're just gonna get smoked in their own building in front of a rockus crowd, then that fourth quarter starts, and all hell breaks loose.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_04]: And he's the one who's breaking it loose, your thoughts on that game.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_03]: How many times did we say that it was that they've been down 10 points or more in seven minutes ago?
- 42:09[SPEAKER_03]: Seven.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_02]: I play in three where every other team in the NFL is like two and a hundred and thirty.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was something like that.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_03]: It was something like that.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: Every other team is three and fifty something and he's three and three.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_03]: you know, in that situation, which is just absurd, you know, I think that this was about this was a lot about Green Bay and the mistakes that they made and you know, the sort of conservatism and misexicutions and things that happened at that team and that's, you know, we're talking about MATLAF lore some because if
- 42:46[SPEAKER_03]: if he doesn't get that extension, then he's a serious possibility for Miami, but at the same time, I think that there was a lot about that game that wasn't a good look for for Matt LaFlor or his coach team.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_03]: So oddly, I would say that it made him more signable for, you know,
- 43:13[SPEAKER_03]: because I think that the floorization probably came in there if they'd if they'd won and they'd kept advancing through the playoffs.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think that his agent would came in locked and loaded asking for an absolutely elite contract for Matt LaFlor and I don't think that he can do that.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that he has the footing to do that anymore.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_03]: So oddly, that whole, you know, people were kind of looking at that contract negotiation nervously, I got the sense for, but I wouldn't be as nervous anymore, and the thing that came out today that I think is an actual movement of the needle.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_03]: is that they have decided to sign him back, you know, because they could have decided not to.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_03]: They could have decided that he has won your left.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to fire him.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to go after John Harbaugh.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and John Harbaugh from he has a home in the upper peninsula and, you know, he's a Midwest guy and, um, and there's there there are connections there I think the report that came out today from Adam Shefter is essentially the packer saying no we're not doing that we are going to try and get this contract negotiation done it doesn't mean it's done, but I also think, you know, ironically the loss made it easier.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is a lot of people ask a lot of people say it all the time, stick with the run, don't abandon the run, this is what it looks like when you don't abandon the run and you can't run.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_04]: Green Bay was not able to run the football at all.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_04]: They still tried to stay on schedule and that made me even more impressed with Jordan Love in this game, because he was just essentially just carrying the team to try to hold on, giving the lead late, Matthew Golden made an appearance.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_03]: after everybody I've been saying and just this kid's a bus like he should be good and he's just not contributing all of a sudden he shows up and he's making play after play after the look like a bus and that game I know he didn't know what he was performing all season long you to you to gone back and like expected that he had an 800 900 you know yard season something like that
- 45:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he was good.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, your thoughts I'm in on this game and and the floor, of course.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was a shocker, really.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_02]: I was stunned really at the end of what I've just seen given that, you know, the pack has played so well in the first half, we're actually dominant.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think what Ben Johnson has done so brilliantly all season is those second half adjustments.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: I need to get it again on Saturday night.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and whatever you think about Ben Johnson or everything about the rivalry here has reignited the fire in that rivalry.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think of a rivalry.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_04]: He went on the podium today and he said and they asked him if we wanted to walk back his fuck the packers comment He says no, I hate that thing fuck.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, which is, you know, which is great.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_02]: And we talked about discord, you know, if you're a packers fan or generally any other fan You think he's an also
- 46:09[SPEAKER_02]: If you're a bear's family, absolutely love him and you literally run for a wall for him.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, it's really important.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's really important moving forwards.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: Look, I just thought the conservatism of Matt LaFloore, and this is something that has ripped fared through a lot of his play calling.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I watch pretty much every Green Bay game every week, and it is a constant of his play calling.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: He gets ultra-conservative, and they really did, and they found themselves in second and lungs,
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: because the running game wasn't working and whilst I admire the ability to try and stick to it, what they didn't do, everything was out of the shotgun, or the pistol, there was no kind of love taking snaps under centre and trying to establish the run game like that, which Glen could have set up, some play action shots down the field of especially when you got some Leo's fastest Christian Watson, and that just didn't happen.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I think three of the first four drives they found themselves and either second and nine, second and ten, or penalized, and we're second and fifteen.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_02]: And that's just, you know, on the road in the playoffs in the cold, and the team started to begin to figure out, and the momentum's building a bit with the bears, and the crowd are getting back into it.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_02]: That was a real struggle for Green Bay.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_02]: And they came a light in the fourth quarter, that the drop by Jaden Reed was just enormous, and love through an absolute sea.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: But look, the game came down to a misdexed report.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: and miss ill gold, you know, if McManus makes the the extra point, then Greenmane needed a field goal.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, coming down on the final drive.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_02]: They had the five of y'all penalty that pushes them further back so they hit the 39 yard, it goes to a 44 yard and he misses that, you know, and that's really what it came down to and I think Green Bay would have won the game if they hadn't made those mistakes.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 47:53[SPEAKER_03]: But they would have just barely hung on and it's still was a bad luck, you know.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_02]: It was a bad luck and look it's a team that is much like the 49ers in many of guys.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: They're just too her to reading being.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: And in many regards, I think they've lost in the next round because, you know, it's very hard to move forward when you're missing, you know, a top line background during Cooper, an absolute stud edge raster in in, um, in Parsons, Devon to wire, you know,
- 48:38[SPEAKER_02]: Same with the 49ers, and the coaching job was Shanahan and Salah and KQBac has been unbelievable, because
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: you know, to lose George Kittle on top of all the other engines, Bowie's are Warner, etc etc, is just remarkable, but the best, the best dangerous, you know, that's, and Caleb Williams might, the the most kind of, oh my god, what are you doing to, oh my god, that's unbelievable kind of player, you know, like 52% completion percentage, but some of the throws are just ridiculous, and in, in the tight end, the kid from from Michigan, they've got an absolutely
- 49:17[SPEAKER_02]: because not only does he run brilliant routes, not only is he a great catcher, not only can he go get the ball, he said he's a dominant blocker as well.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_02]: He is going to be super super good for such long time.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: And what did he end up with like eight catches on 140 to or something and the touch down the extra point and yeah, he's a he's a stud and they've got the look at that offensive line.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_02]: They rebuilt that offensive line.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_02]: They went out and got Joe Tune, they got Drew Dorman, they got the kid from that they got the right guard,
- 49:45[SPEAKER_02]: Don El Rites turned this on all pro-right tackle.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Chris Bennett once on this podcast talking about Don El Rites.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and they got it right here.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: They could win it.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they're good enough to win it.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: Or the court of Inc, you know, continues to develop a good power players at every position.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_04]: They just can't keep doing this, spotting the other team three.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_04]: No, no, they can't.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_03]: But, but also, I mean, and this is this is one of the lessons to take away.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_03]: Why do you think we talk about like dynamic quarterbacks is because when you get into those end of game situations where the defense is tired a little bit,
- 50:20[SPEAKER_03]: and you have a, you know, a dynamic quarterback back there, it's tough to stop.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's tough to stop in those late game situations.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_03]: It can be.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_03]: And so that's why that's why that's one of and where do games, where are games won nowadays?
- 50:37[SPEAKER_03]: They're won at the end of the game.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: This is why you do want those kind of, you know, uh,
- 50:42[SPEAKER_03]: for lack of better word, alien type quarterbacks and they will always get, they will always get the following and the interest from the NFL.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_03]: Because in those situations, what would your other have when you know you've got four downs and you don't need to complete, you don't need to complete.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_03]: for a foredown football, you don't need to complete three of them, right?
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: You just need to complete one of them.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_03]: And if you've got a guy that can run around there and do things with his legs and then a big arm, it's very powerful up in those situations.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and finally, the current director for the entire weekend, Carolina, eight and nine Carolina at home, against my estimation, the best team in football, the Rams, although they failed to prove it down the stretch because they had the number one seed right there in front of them and they blew what was it, a 22 point lead against the Seahawks toward the end of the year.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, I guess they're paying for it now, having to go on the road.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_04]: and they'll be going to Chicago next week.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_04]: But what a game this was.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_04]: Simon, Caroline, a back and forth, back and forth.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_04]: Stafford throw after throw like he had some throws in that King and he was facing J.C. Horn and Mike Jackson who's just come out of nowhere from you.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, some play well.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Rams are the best team in the league currently and I think they would be my favorite to win the Super Bowl.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, you go back to week 15 or whatever.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_02]: I was Carolina played exactly the same game against the Rams and you know, only just managed to
- 52:26[SPEAKER_02]: Or in fact the Panthers actually won that game and the the Rams only just managed to get away with the victory that we came So it did look for all the world in that fourth quarter like Carolina we're gonna win
- 52:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's really interesting the job that Dave Canales has done.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think the defense is really good.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_02]: And Jaycey Hall went out of the game towards the back end with the injury and stuff.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the one troubling thing with him as he can't quite keep him healthy.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're Dave Canales, if you're a Carolina fan, that run game is decent, but it's not explosive, necessarily in America, down earlier on in the season, had some explosives.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_02]: But generally, he's not like a massive creator.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's a run over people.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: He's a kind of David Montgomery.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I think they're in desperate need of a Jamir Gibb or a Devon A-chan to really help brush.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought young pride really well, your fans have lied, held up, and they just need help or receive a, you know, temperament.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and it's great.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_02]: Jayden Coca looks like he's coming on, but unfortunately, he's able to get just looks like a complete bus at this stage.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think if they had a couple more targets for a price.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, that was a good game, and Stafford is just an absolute, I mean, it's just a solo, just the Rams.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's interesting.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Peter Schreger just tweeted a picture of Sean McVay saying, 70 years ago, today, McVay was given the head coaching gig of the Rams after literally scoring seven points, and the, you know, getting knocked out on the final week of the regular season, not making the playoffs, only scoring seven points, and now look at me, it's the best or kind of co-best head coach in the league.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 53:54[SPEAKER_02]: They're just such a fundamentally well-coached team and you know all the pieces mesh together Pooh can occur is just ridiculous Iron Williams as a pass protectors insane.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_02]: I mean the offensive line isn't like the greatest What they all do their jobs really well.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's a dealer or a lyric Jackson or
- 54:09[SPEAKER_02]: or whoever obviously they're missing well-paved and tired and staff, but, um, I mean, and like how many drops to debunk their atoms have down the stretch?
- 54:16[SPEAKER_04]: It was like, yeah, one of you ever seen those sort of things happen, but yeah, and by the way, there was a stat in that game that just, like, you know, stabbed me right in the heart.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_04]: They said that Dave Canales was the only coach this season, or the Panthers were the only team that had a streak longer than four on fourth and one.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_04]: They made it seven times in a row.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_04]: guess who was fourth not Miami.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_04]: Chris this game.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah that one I I'm actually it was an kind of interesting to watch Stafford struggle a little bit and they they're early going as I felt felt like.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, of course, at the end, you just showed, you know, it was a lot like the Josh Allen Superman, you know, kind of cape moments.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_03]: And that's one of the reasons that it was one of the best games of the weekend and one of the best weekends of playoff probably history.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_03]: And so, I think that team is obviously really good, but going into this game, this was a perfect recipe to rub the NFL's nose and their unwillingness to do the receding rules.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_03]: Because Carolina is a completely different team at home.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_03]: completely different on the road.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_03]: They're nothing, you know, on the road and to be clear.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_04]: And to be clear, the NFL is the only major American sport that does not receive the playoffs.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: So on the on the road, the Carolina Panthers are trash.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: They won three games and they buy a total of us, I think, like 13 points and and low scoring games and, you know, just very ugly games at that and at home, you know, you kind of flip a coin and
- 55:58[SPEAKER_03]: They might be, you know, not good at home, but they also might be phenomenal at home.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_03]: And that they're particularly the offense.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: And this was one of those days where the offense was clicking.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_03]: They were finding a lot of room in the passing game to get the ball out to guys on the run and to make big plays and pricing on kind of phenomenal game.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't know, you know, for my money, I'm still not sure about pricing out,
- 56:27[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, they really put it on and I think you have a great point Simon with the the run a game for all that you know, we would look at it and say that that run a game seems okay.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_03]: They don't have a lot of explosiveness there and I know that he's not.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_03]: really talented going in there.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, we'll see how that pans out going forward.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_03]: But again, that was a hell of a way to kick off play off weekend.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, uh, sometime later on this week or who knows, maybe early next week or probably later on this week.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_04]: We'll talk about all the head coaching candidates.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_04]: There's a thousand of them.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, I don't think that the titans have, have reached out to any of us yet, but if they haven't, then that's just something about us because they're, they're, they're interview list.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_04]: It's not 16 Simon.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_04]: He said 16 on our discord.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_04]: But it's 14.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_04]: Like they're literally interviewing anybody who's alive and has ever coached the football game before in their life.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_04]: Last thing for this show, one more playoff game left.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_04]: The Steelers are putting on the line.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_04]: Their streak of 24 consecutive, this is one of the greatest streaks in American sport.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_04]: 24 consecutive wins at home on Monday night football.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_04]: And they're putting it on the line against the team that if you told me this was a neutral feel, I would start taking out mortgages on my house to put it on the Texans in this game because my thinking would be, how the hell is Arrow Rogers gonna put up with that defense?
- 58:09[SPEAKER_04]: How is he gonna get past that defense?
- 58:13[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll talk about that right now.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_04]: Simon, your thoughts on this game, the only thing that gives me apprehension is that streak that the Steelers have going, Steelers, at home, against the Texans.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_04]: Who do you have tonight?
- 58:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Texans win come to the defense too good.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_02]: See just out to good weapons too good.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's a comfortable Houston win for me.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_04]: So streak over.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_02]: streak about the streak.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to take the street, I'm going to take the street, I'm going to take the street and I'm going to take the street and I'm going to have, you know, the, a moment, a last, maybe a last moment for, for a, for a boy at a quarterback for the, the Steelers and yeah, I'll take them.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and I just I can't make a case like if it was on a neutral field, if you do the neutral field test, if you put them on a neutral field, can you make a case for for the Steelers know, if my only if my only, you know, reason for picking the Steelers would be some mythical street.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's not really mythical.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_04]: It's actually happened, right?
- 59:17[SPEAKER_04]: So if my only reason is a building that they're going to be playing in, I don't think it's a reason enough that Texas defense has the best in football follows closely by Seattle.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_04]: Texans by a touchdown.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_04]: Are you looking at interesting?
- 59:32[SPEAKER_02]: The athletic are reporting that the Giants met John Harbour for lunch yesterday and had an informed meeting at his house and that both sides are reporting that Harbour remains extremely interested in the Giants job.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's extremely interested in several of the jobs, though.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's paying flame and flat face, isn't he?
- 59:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, there's a little bit of, we talked about this on the discord.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_03]: The desperation a little bit, the giants have been, you know, Joe Shane has been, you know, calling them, you know, every day, basically, and having lots of conversations.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_03]: I think that the giants are serious, serious threat there, because, you know, good organization, good organization matters.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_03]: The one thing that I think is kind of being overrated a little bit is the quarterback thing, because for us and us fans, I think it's all about the quarterback, and that's understandable.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_03]: But if you're John Harbaugh, I don't know that it's all about the quarterback that's in place, because the only thing that's worse than not having a quarterback is having the wrong quarterback.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, the John Harbaugh, you're gonna look at these quarterbacks across the landscape, these teams, and you're gonna try to evaluate them over a weekend,
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_03]: where normally if you're picking a quarterback John Harbaugh, you've had, you've been following these guys for months and evaluating and analyzing them for months and months and he's got to evaluate, you know, a jackson dart, a cam ward, et cetera, et cetera over a weekend and then decide his future.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_03]: And if you're John Harbaugh,
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_03]: quarterback hasn't been an issue for you.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you was in Philadelphia for the longest time.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_03]: They took right away in Philadelphia.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_03]: They took Donovan McNabb, went to four straight conference championships, came in a Super Bowl.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_03]: And then he gets to the Baltimore Ravens and the first thing they do is they draft Joe Flacco.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_03]: Where did they do it?
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_03]: Number 18 overall.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_03]: Just kind of casual.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_03]: You know, they take Joe flagship and flaco and then they go to the Super Bowl.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_03]: And then what happens, you know, to 2018, they take Lamar Jackson, where did they take a number 32 overall?
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_03]: No big deal.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_03]: And then they go straight from Joe flaco to Lamar Jackson.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_03]: This guy has been blessed, you know, at the quarterback, we're tearing our hair out, because we have 27 whatever quarterbacks in San Marino.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, we're all of us are our trigger shy about the about the quarterbacks, you know, and trying to take a quarterback.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_03]: and John Harball has to be thinking, oh, you know, I get to be part of picking the next quarterback.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_03]: That's no, cool.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_03]: That's not not that big of a deal.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I can do it.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'll get your quarterback.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_03]: You're picking, you're picking 11 overall.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_03]: That's better than I've done the last two times.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I can picture Steven Ross say, man, John.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_04]: I just can't get the quarterback and John's like,
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_03]: How I'm telling you it's about organization, it's about general manager, it's about, you know, things things like that and he's going to stack the pros and the cons and the Miami cons are going to be pretty significant with respect to the salary cap issues and, you know, moving on from to and stuff like that there's a significant cons list with Miami for them to get over with him.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_03]: But I don't know that quarterback is what everybody says it is because this guy is not a fan sitting on the couch driving, you know, driving himself crazy about quarterbacks and only talking about quarterbacks.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's going to be about whether he's convinced Joe Shane is the guy to partner with them.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_03]: And if he is, then he'll go there.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_02]: I think the biggest danger is at Lenta and actually I don't think my mirror close to winning this, the horrible thing.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think the horrible will come to memory.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Falcons are big threat actually.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think so, but, but you know, remember what I said, the worst thing, the worst thing that's that having no quarterback is having the wrong one.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_03]: Michael Penex, Michael Penex has had two ACLs in one day, an ACL in the other knee, another multiple AC joint in shoulder injuries.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_03]: The man is walking wounded.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_03]: He has a bigger list a more serious, if a more for concussions and that being such a hot button.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_03]: It would be as significant as to it.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_02]: But what is the thing that that Atlanta has, that the giants don't have, that Miami don't have in their favor, and that's the easiest path to a division title.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's one by eight and 19.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_03]: That's fair.
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_03]: It's a fair point, but they have good ownership.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_03]: Then they have good ownership.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's a good opportunity, uh, be fair.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_03]: And follow people with my car pits, they've got Drake London, you know, if they can find the core back or if, you know, it's a big question, but that that is a simple path to a division tile and, you know, that that's a blank slate blank slate with the general manager, you know, Matt Ryan just got hired on his president, but they have blank slate blank slate at the general manager, it is a very attractive, you know, if quarterback isn't that big of a thing, then this is the biggest rival for Miami in my opinion is the Atlanta Falcons,
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_03]: The quarterback is a thing, then you know, then you're looking at Cam Ward or Jackson Dart.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_03]: But I kind of tended out that.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_03]: And if quarterback's really a thing, then he should just go take the Las Vegas Raiders job.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_03]: because he's talking to them and they've got number one overall and they're about to pick you know perfect boy Fernando Mendoza.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah by the way if John Hogwarts actually listening to this podcast which I highly doubt but let's just say by the one in a billion chance that he is listening to this podcast my argument against Jackson Dart that guy tried to kill Nicole B.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_04]: Dean and Robert Spillane in one season.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_04]: And he didn't try to kill them with like a baseball bat or a gun or anything like that.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_04]: He tried to run them over and spear them with his head.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_03]: He tried to kill them with his head.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_04]: That's your quarterback, John.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think you want that.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_03]: I would have serious issues with that.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_03]: The guy and the guy has that mentality.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_03]: I would be afraid.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_03]: I would be afraid.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_03]: Again, it's it's what's worse than getting the not having a quarterback is having the wrong one.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_04]: And he had two conclusions since we're here.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_04]: We're here.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_04]: We hear scared to death about two as next hit and this guy had two concussion stints in his rookie season.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_04]: That can't end well, but I absolutely agree.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_04]: Atlanta is the danger and a significant one, I think, in my opinion, because the Tennessee one and I think we could go off the air with this, the Tennessee one, the only thing I look against Tennessee, yeah, it's a good situation.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_04]: You get to clean the slate, you get to run the show, you got camoard, oh my God, they need an entire roster.
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_04]: Like what do you got?
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Jeffrey Simmons and you got camoard.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_02]: Before we get off though, I mean, surely we need to quickly, I mean, I don't know that it's going to be fast, though, to be fair.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, seven days is a long time, but sure.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think you'll be excellent.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think you'll get in south of the two guys that
- 1:06:33[SPEAKER_02]: might be just under the radar here.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'd like to fan, I'd like to fancy two, halfway or two, we'll get out, but I think Crink Kubiak in that sort of swing for the hedges.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think Toriak will like Crink Kubiak, you know, he knows Gary, obviously, and Kubiak's resume is pretty good.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_02]: What he's done with the Seahawks is great.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_02]: What he did with Dotties, Dotties, Darnol is great.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_02]: You know, to look at Jackson Smith in Jig, we're all the explosive plays down the field that they've had this season.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_02]: as Defanski two time coach the I think Salah this Chris talked about 20 minutes ago is really interesting especially if you can get a good offensive coordinator Brian Dayball somebody of that elk you know really good that can just look after that situation.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_02]: Crinkie back to me is that it is the guy that's kind of sniffing out of the radar.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah and another first time at Jesse Mentor like if if Jesse Mentor came in and brought in I don't know
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I suspect Monk can would go with with our boy, but left to see.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's hard to say.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, from the start, from the start, it had been messaging, you know, before we even had a head coach opening, you know, way before.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_03]: It had been, you know, pretty much right when Aikman joined the free.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_03]: Um, if that gives you any clues, um, you know, Jeff Halfley's name was given to me, uh, immediately.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_03]: And, um, and insisted upon me, uh, over and over again.
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and that's the, you know, that's the DC of, uh, defense coordinator of your, uh, your team, the, uh, the Green Bay Packers.
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and, um, uh, Michael Parsons disagrees with you.
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_04]: He says he's going nowhere.
- 1:08:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he does.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_03]: He says he's going nowhere for whatever reason.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_03]: But, um,
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_03]: I have no idea.
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know why Jeff Hathley.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know why, you know, I can't sit here and as, you know, espouse all the
- 1:08:25[SPEAKER_03]: the virtues of a Jeff Hathley, but that's the name that I keep hearing.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_03]: So I think that looms, I also think, and his head coach experience at Boston College, I guess, is view favorably because he wouldn't be a first time head coach.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_03]: He's been, you know, head coach before, I just know that we're in the part of the cycle where Steve Ross is going to look favorably upon head coach experience.
- 1:08:50[SPEAKER_03]: Um, we are not in the part of cycle where he wants the sexy and never had coach guy.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, and, and so I think that actually a guy like Clint Kubiak and even Chris Schula have, you know, kind of some strikes against them that way.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_03]: Um, but I think that Jeff Haffley walks in with good support in that building and, uh, and then John Harball Looms.
- 1:09:11[SPEAKER_03]: John Harball Looms and then I think I fully agree with you Simon.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_03]: about Robert Sella being kind of a dark horse.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_03]: Be careful about that because the Ross has a thing about those New York guys, I swear to God.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_03]: He's based in New York.
- 1:09:23[SPEAKER_03]: He said quarter to New York and for some reason, you know, he almost knows more about the New York guys than he does the Miami guys frankly.
- 1:09:30[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, I think that's that's something to keep an eye on.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_04]: That's it.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_04]: There's no more.
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to do another show, probably.
- 1:09:38[SPEAKER_04]: They're on this week.
- 1:09:39[SPEAKER_04]: God knows we have enough sponsors that I got to get them as much exposure as possible.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_04]: So we'd probably be with you later on this week and we'll talk, head coaching candidates and college football national championship, okay?
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_01]: But, tell me.
- 1:10:05[UNKNOWN]: You
