Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: And I invited you here. I thought I made myself
- 0:14Speaker 1: perfectly clear. When you're a guest to my home, you
- 0:21Speaker 1: gotta come to me empty. And I said, no, guests,
- 0:27Speaker 1: your presences presents enough.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I already had too much stuff, So how do you
- 0:36Speaker 2: dare to surbey me?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Welcome to I said, no gifts. I'm pretter wineger. My
- 0:55Speaker 3: hair is still a little damp, but it'll probably dry
- 0:58Speaker 3: out throughout the episode, so you feel that, you'll feel
- 1:02Speaker 3: it as my hair gets drier and drier and starts
- 1:05Speaker 3: to poof. If that's how I'm starting, what could I
- 1:10Speaker 3: have to offer? Last night? It was you know, it's
- 1:14Speaker 3: just me begging the TV to show me something. Last
- 1:17Speaker 3: night I watched Adopted Too. This is the sequel I
- 1:23Speaker 3: assume to Adopted. I haven't seen Adopted, and I really
- 1:27Speaker 3: haven't seen Adopted Too. But it was about an evil
- 1:30Speaker 3: little boy who is adopted and things don't turn out
- 1:36Speaker 3: well for the family the adopted boy. Let's just be honest.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Adoption is evil, adopted people are evil. It's all obviously evil,
- 1:47Speaker 3: and thanks to tub we now know. I haven't seen
- 1:50Speaker 3: Adopted one though, so I can't speak to it. I
- 1:53Speaker 3: also watched Hag. I watched Hag the twob of Original.
- 2:02Speaker 3: That's about a woman named Mag who is a hag
- 2:05Speaker 3: and she I didn't watch much of that either, but
- 2:08Speaker 3: I think she kills her gay friend. That's my life.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I've skipped through too to be Originals and been mad
- 2:16Speaker 3: at my TV. So that's essentially where we are. Do
- 2:21Speaker 3: we need to talk about any business? I should remind
- 2:23Speaker 3: you we have YouTube. We have YouTube at home. We're
- 2:29Speaker 3: on YouTube. Tell your favorite tween YouTube. Somebody's created a
- 2:36Speaker 3: like a subreddit for the podcast, and that seems to
- 2:38Speaker 3: be thriving, which is nice. People are buzzing around Reddit.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I was so against Reddit for such a long time,
- 2:44Speaker 3: but it seems like it's the last place on the internet.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Ah Patreon, patreon dot com, slash I said, no gifts
- 2:51Speaker 3: the best value online. So get over there, support the podcast,
- 2:56Speaker 3: do whatever you want. I want to get into the
- 2:58Speaker 3: podcast because I mean, I just today's guest. He's nominated
- 3:02Speaker 3: for an Emmy. He's been nominated for an Emmy twice.
- 3:05Speaker 3: The truth is everybody loves him. It's Michael Yury. Michael.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Welcome back to I said, Nokia.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Oh what a pleasure. I'm so happy to be back.
- 3:12Speaker 4: I'm sorry that I giggled.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I have nothing to share about.
- 3:16Speaker 4: My life, but your too, be habits.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I have nothing but to be in my life.
- 3:20Speaker 5: It really sounds like not to jump in to the
- 3:23Speaker 5: to be of it all. But Hag One and adopted
- 3:27Speaker 5: to feel like they might be the same.
- 3:30Speaker 3: They must be in the same universe. There's definitely in
- 3:32Speaker 3: the same level of quality. I'll say that, do we.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Think the family and adopted one is the same same
- 3:39Speaker 5: family or same child?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Oh?
- 3:41Speaker 3: Interesting, I would say that the the hag is probably
- 3:44Speaker 3: the babysitter in Adopted One. I bet she's circling the block.
- 3:48Speaker 4: It's a spin off, yes, spin off.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Right, mag is in her car. She's waiting for the
- 3:53Speaker 3: little boy to kill his first family and then she'll
- 3:57Speaker 3: probably she probably takes him to the It's called Sid's
- 4:00Speaker 3: Mental Institute. I think something like that is where it's
- 4:03Speaker 3: a little boy in Sid's something like that.
- 4:06Speaker 5: That's your dream, Sid. One day, I want to have
- 4:08Speaker 5: a mental institution named for.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Myself, Cherry's Mental Institution. Come on down. It's something like that.
- 4:15Speaker 3: It's like, why is there just a first name Larry's
- 4:18Speaker 3: Mental Institution?
- 4:20Speaker 4: But that's Ronson and Sons.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Plumb Company. Not a great mental institution.
- 4:29Speaker 5: I'll say, well, oh no, that's that's too bad, so
- 4:32Speaker 5: you don't recommend it.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I would not send my evil child to this one
- 4:36Speaker 3: because he's going to get out. It's gonna be a bloodbath.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Oh he escaped.
- 4:40Speaker 3: He escapes pretty easily, I'll be honest.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Oh, it goes back to his adopted family. That's what's
- 4:46Speaker 4: adopted one is about.
- 4:48Speaker 3: I think that family's dead.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Oh.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I think he finds a new family. Oh, do you
- 4:53Speaker 3: want to find out what happens with the I don't
- 4:54Speaker 3: want to spoil it because I know you're going to
- 4:55Speaker 3: watch it.
- 4:56Speaker 4: I don't think I don't think I will.
- 4:58Speaker 3: There's a chance we're going to get an adopt up
- 5:00Speaker 3: to three because he almost immediately after killing his new family,
- 5:04Speaker 3: finds a new Fanily.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Oh, so it's the same kid kids, And they gotta
- 5:08Speaker 5: they got to shoot these quickly because that kid that
- 5:10Speaker 5: actually getting older.
- 5:12Speaker 3: So they probably have shot like six of them already, just.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Holding them until the time is right, until the public
- 5:20Speaker 4: begs for more.
- 5:21Speaker 3: It sounds great Toob's pumping them out. I looked through
- 5:25Speaker 3: the tub Originals last night. Weirdly didn't see Adopted one.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I just saw Adopted two.
- 5:29Speaker 4: There, So Adopted one is on Apple.
- 5:34Speaker 3: It's a huge shift in quality, major budget slash.
- 5:40Speaker 4: It's on Apple and Chris Pratt's in it, and it's
- 5:43Speaker 4: like it's like a I spent like ten million.
- 5:45Speaker 3: It's a very thoughtful piece about the adoption process, and
- 5:48Speaker 3: Adopted two goes full bar. But I'm really recommending to
- 5:56Speaker 3: be to people at this point. And this is not
- 5:58Speaker 3: paid to advertising, it's just their there's a lot of trash. Yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 3: incredible amount of trash. Because I think Lifetime became kind
- 6:04Speaker 3: of self aware. Uh huh, Right to Be doesn't feel
- 6:08Speaker 3: quite as aware.
- 6:09Speaker 4: To Be is the new Lifetime.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Yeah it might be. Wow, new Lifetime Hallmark and good documentaries,
- 6:15Speaker 3: oh genuinely.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Actually actually good documentaries on to Be and it's to be?
- 6:20Speaker 4: Don't they have Little Toby too? To Be?
- 6:27Speaker 3: It's like to be. I can't do it. I don't
- 6:30Speaker 3: have the range of the range for two.
- 6:33Speaker 5: It's a it's a female voice, I believe, and it
- 6:35Speaker 5: goes up to be to be, well.
- 6:41Speaker 4: It's either to be or as I hear, not to be.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I feel like, wow, I think you might be the
- 6:48Speaker 3: first person to get to that.
- 6:50Speaker 5: That's my understanding of how that works. It's either to
- 6:53Speaker 5: be or adversely not to be on the other side
- 6:58Speaker 5: of it.
- 6:58Speaker 3: And then there's movie. Oh, there's movie.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Movie is a thing I haven't been saying to be wrong.
- 7:04Speaker 5: It's also movie.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure there's something called movie.
- 7:07Speaker 4: And on movie they they play movies.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I think so. I think they play probably strictly movies.
- 7:15Speaker 3: I think movie might be a little bit more a platform,
- 7:18Speaker 3: a little more in control of its content. But I
- 7:22Speaker 3: could be wrong.
- 7:23Speaker 5: In control like they have, they have like technique, like style,
- 7:28Speaker 5: and maybe like the categories are to be. It's almost
- 7:33Speaker 5: like it sounds like I could make a movie and
- 7:35Speaker 5: put it on to be myself possibly.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I think we're getting close to that.
- 7:39Speaker 4: You can upload it.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's got a it's got a little bit
- 7:44Speaker 3: of something for everybody.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Oh that sounds great.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I feel like you have a richer, faller life than me.
- 7:50Speaker 3: What have you been doing? That's not true at all,
- 7:53Speaker 3: That's simply absolutely.
- 7:54Speaker 5: That's not true at all. In fact, I'm wearing pants
- 7:56Speaker 5: that I bought with you.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Wait, when when did you buy paints?
- 8:00Speaker 4: When we buy? When do we go pants shop?
- 8:03Speaker 5: You and Jimmy and me were in your neighborhood. We
- 8:07Speaker 5: had breakfast, and we were wandering around and we happened
- 8:10Speaker 5: upon a very cute, little secondhand clothing shop and I
- 8:13Speaker 5: got these definitely female pants. Oh good for you, but
- 8:16Speaker 5: I wear them all the time.
- 8:17Speaker 4: They're so cozy.
- 8:19Speaker 5: And here let's see these these Oh those are great.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Those are really fantastic. Wait, I'm trying to think of
- 8:27Speaker 3: was it a leader of the pack? Was it a
- 8:29Speaker 3: that sounds familiar?
- 8:30Speaker 5: I don't remember. I just remember it was little Literally
- 8:34Speaker 5: the pack sounds kind of familiar.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Where did we had breakfast at Bells? Yes? This is
- 8:38Speaker 3: lining up Bells.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Oh, yes, that's right.
- 8:42Speaker 5: And then we walked down, we wandered around the neighborhood
- 8:44Speaker 5: and we went into this place and I saw these.
- 8:47Speaker 3: That sounds right, little girls shoot pants. This takes me
- 8:51Speaker 3: back to about like two thousand and six. I would
- 8:54Speaker 3: buy women's pants at like I don't know, American Eagle
- 8:59Speaker 3: or something they were like, because at the time it
- 9:01Speaker 3: was kind of almost impossible to buy a men's pant
- 9:04Speaker 3: that wasn't huge.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Uhha, right, because of the style right men.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Needed, right, that's what.
- 9:11Speaker 4: That was.
- 9:11Speaker 3: The pants strong enough for a man. But I think
- 9:14Speaker 3: I would go to like American Eagle and buy like
- 9:17Speaker 3: boot cut women's jeans. I guess that's fantastic.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Why are men's pants so big? Then?
- 9:23Speaker 5: Do you think that men needed big pants so that
- 9:26Speaker 5: the illusion of how big their penis was was was.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Oh interesting, it was a bigger curtain.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I can really hide things.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Nine pants because well why else would I.
- 9:39Speaker 5: I mean, I'm like, we're like, like, let's find the
- 9:41Speaker 5: tiniest pants we can.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Well, as a small person, it's just I've I just
- 9:46Speaker 3: feel like I've been living in a giant world my
- 9:48Speaker 3: entire life. Oh wow, and so and then there was
- 9:52Speaker 3: a small period when men's clothes kind of were fitted
- 9:55Speaker 3: through like the mid to late thousands and ten ye
- 10:00Speaker 3: scenes and then we're back to a boxier stuff.
- 10:03Speaker 4: I know now people like a big old pant.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Yeah, And for me it's still I'm a little I know.
- 10:07Speaker 3: It's like I fought so hard for things to fit.
- 10:10Speaker 5: I know, I know I've been I've been on the
- 10:12Speaker 5: elliptical for years just to spit into my girl pants.
- 10:16Speaker 5: Now people are like, nah, it doesn't matter. Your likes
- 10:19Speaker 5: could be as big as you want.
- 10:20Speaker 3: It can just be enormous pants.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Yeah, here, put on these these balloons.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Right, And I just don't feel like that's me.
- 10:27Speaker 4: No, I don't really either.
- 10:28Speaker 5: But but I will say I get very few compliments
- 10:30Speaker 5: on these brands, almost none, and it does not determin
- 10:35Speaker 5: me because they're so cozy. I look right, they're so
- 10:39Speaker 5: they like st they're kind of stretchy, and they're hot.
- 10:42Speaker 4: They're high water whatever you call it.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't realize it's like a high water or
- 10:46Speaker 3: like a men's caprice.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Yeah, they're cut offs. I mean, so somebody cut them
- 10:51Speaker 5: at at some point, but I've just rolled them up.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Oh, so you were kind of forced to Otherwise that would.
- 10:55Speaker 5: Be Otherwise they would be misshapen and they would be
- 10:59Speaker 5: like not long enough or too long.
- 11:01Speaker 4: And so I mean I'm obsessed with them.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I would say, there are a little crossroads like Britney
- 11:06Speaker 3: Spears crossroads. It's a great look.
- 11:09Speaker 5: Thank you now. So that's enough compliments for me to
- 11:13Speaker 5: keep wearing it forever. But then sometimes I'll wear big pants,
- 11:16Speaker 5: not that I buy, but that people put me in
- 11:18Speaker 5: for right acting things, and I get all the compliments
- 11:23Speaker 5: because that's what's in.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Right now interesting, But then it's going to be out
- 11:26Speaker 3: and everyone's going to be embarrassed.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Absolutely, it's gonna be like, what were you thinking wearing
- 11:31Speaker 5: a big, drapy double breasted suit unfastened?
- 11:36Speaker 3: It's a trap.
- 11:37Speaker 5: It is a trap because I remember when double breasted
- 11:40Speaker 5: suits used to be popular, and then when they were
- 11:42Speaker 5: the dumbest thing we could possibly look at.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Isn't that crazy that like we like?
- 11:47Speaker 5: I remember also the hairstyles of now, even the hairstyle
- 11:50Speaker 5: I'm sporting, which has a little bit of like, way
- 11:53Speaker 5: more hair looks great? Thank you again, I'm with these compliments,
- 11:57Speaker 5: but like so much hair in the back, and there
- 11:59Speaker 5: was a period I feel like that was minutes ago
- 12:02Speaker 5: where men with hair in the back of their head
- 12:05Speaker 5: was the most disgusting thing, And now it's hot, it
- 12:08Speaker 5: looks great, everyone loves it.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I've said for a long time that when the clothes
- 12:13Speaker 3: you wore in middle school come back into style, you
- 12:15Speaker 3: should get to die. I think it's just like, Okay,
- 12:19Speaker 3: now I've completed the cycle onto the grave. But unfortunately,
- 12:23Speaker 3: I think you probably see that cycle probably six times
- 12:26Speaker 3: through a life. Gosh right, I mean, cruel, endless, tough experience.
- 12:32Speaker 5: We just have to keep wagging up every damn day.
- 12:37Speaker 5: It's a very beautiful day today though, been nice weather.
- 12:40Speaker 5: It has because we had a couple of like like
- 12:43Speaker 5: a June gloom.
- 12:44Speaker 3: That's all I want. You don't want the June gloe.
- 12:47Speaker 3: You like the gloom because in La once we get
- 12:50Speaker 3: out of June gloom, we're into August through November.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Hell, oh that's fair.
- 12:55Speaker 3: It's brutal.
- 12:56Speaker 4: But I love the sun like this because I I
- 13:00Speaker 4: grew up in Texas where it's humid. Oh right, so
- 13:04Speaker 4: the air is hot, and there's something about California that
- 13:08Speaker 4: the sun is hot.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yes, but if you.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Go in the shade, it's no longer hot.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:13Speaker 5: That is a miracle. It's like a miracle. And I
- 13:17Speaker 5: realized that's simple. It's just simple science. But like in
- 13:20Speaker 5: Texas where it's humid, in New York, where I most
- 13:23Speaker 5: of the time, where it's humid, like it doesn't matter
- 13:26Speaker 5: where the sun is. You walk out that door, out
- 13:28Speaker 5: of the air conditioning, and you are drenched and sweat immediately.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I was because I was in New York in
- 13:35Speaker 3: April or maybe no, yeah, April, and I kind of
- 13:38Speaker 3: expected that the trick of New York where you're like, oh,
- 13:40Speaker 3: this is the most beautiful place in the world. Why
- 13:42Speaker 3: wouldn't I live here?
- 13:43Speaker 2: Right?
- 13:43Speaker 3: But instead it was extremely hot and then extremely cold.
- 13:46Speaker 3: So it was probably bad for a vacation, but it
- 13:49Speaker 3: was also good for me to be like, oh, yeah,
- 13:51Speaker 3: this is a large part of the year here.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Yeah, so you were there for both.
- 13:56Speaker 3: I was there. Over the course of a week. It
- 13:58Speaker 3: went from like ninety degrees to forty degrees and there
- 14:01Speaker 3: was essentially no in between.
- 14:03Speaker 4: That's a problem. Yeah, but it's like it was mom
- 14:06Speaker 4: Dommie's fault.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I believe everything. This guy's out of control. Let's get
- 14:12Speaker 3: Eric Adams back in the office.
- 14:15Speaker 4: He balanced the budget, but look at the weather.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Okay, but so you you basically did not tell me
- 14:26Speaker 3: what you've been up to other than buying pants with me.
- 14:29Speaker 3: You were trying to make me feel better about my life,
- 14:31Speaker 3: saying Bridger, you're shopping, You're going to breakfast. That was
- 14:34Speaker 3: months ago.
- 14:34Speaker 4: That was months ago, one morning, one day a year.
- 14:38Speaker 4: I go out, what else have I been doing? Let's see,
- 14:40Speaker 4: we are shooting this is the fourth season of Shrinking.
- 14:43Speaker 4: So that's television program and it's really really fun.
- 14:48Speaker 5: It's going really well, and I'm really enjoying being here
- 14:52Speaker 5: in California. I spent the fall in New York. I
- 14:56Speaker 5: was in Oh Mary, that's right, and ritured the Second
- 15:00Speaker 5: by Shakespeare and it was awesome, and New York was awesome.
- 15:05Speaker 4: New York on the autumn is really lovely.
- 15:07Speaker 5: And then I enjoyed the winter it gets and we
- 15:11Speaker 5: did have one this year, which was nice.
- 15:12Speaker 3: To defend the winter. You can't say that and then
- 15:16Speaker 3: just move on. What about winter? You like it or
- 15:20Speaker 3: you tolerated?
- 15:22Speaker 4: Interesting? Good question.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Well, I like the snow, Like when it's snows, it's
- 15:25Speaker 5: really beautiful, and like there's nothing like seeing Central Park
- 15:29Speaker 5: covered in snow doing a picture, but you can. But
- 15:35Speaker 5: then there is day three, day four of the snow
- 15:39Speaker 5: where it becomes like slushy, grosslthy, having to leap over.
- 15:45Speaker 5: But I'll say something that And this is also like
- 15:48Speaker 5: because I'm I loved being in the theater.
- 15:51Speaker 4: I love doing theater.
- 15:52Speaker 5: And in New York there's a thing that happens with
- 15:56Speaker 5: New Yorkers are just so tough, like it doesn't matter
- 15:59Speaker 5: if it's boring rain, a blizzard, horrible heat, they will
- 16:04Speaker 5: keep their plans right. And this is something that I like,
- 16:09Speaker 5: what I love about New York in the winter is
- 16:12Speaker 5: that it doesn't matter. I mean, a blizzard, maybe maybe
- 16:15Speaker 5: that'll shut the city down, But it doesn't matter. If
- 16:17Speaker 5: there's slush, if there's snow, if there's rain, if there's
- 16:21Speaker 5: horrible heat, people are gonna go and they're.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Gonna show up at the theater.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Right every time, every time it's like a horrible weather day,
- 16:28Speaker 5: and I think, oh gosh, I hope we have an
- 16:29Speaker 5: audience tonight.
- 16:31Speaker 4: They show up. And I think that's so the resiliency
- 16:34Speaker 4: of a New Yorker.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Right, the commitment, yeah, which I appreciate, and I kind
- 16:39Speaker 3: of want out of everyone but myself. I want I
- 16:42Speaker 3: want the option to be able to cancel, fake out
- 16:45Speaker 3: at last minute. Yeah, that's fair, which is a nice
- 16:47Speaker 3: thing about LA. Although I anytime I cancel on somebody,
- 16:50Speaker 3: the apologizing I do is overwhelming, and then I realize
- 16:54Speaker 3: no one here cares, No one cares. Essentially expected that
- 16:57Speaker 3: you're probably going to cancel day.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Of I think LA people are relieved when you cancel.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Oh.
- 17:03Speaker 5: I mean, of course, everyone's like, oh, thank god they
- 17:05Speaker 5: canceled so I didn't have to.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really just chicken just waiting, pushing it as
- 17:11Speaker 3: far as humanly possible. I'm thinking about something tonight i'd
- 17:13Speaker 3: like to cancel and I don't even have to leave
- 17:15Speaker 3: my house for it.
- 17:16Speaker 6: Oh wow, what is it watching to be? To cancel
- 17:21Speaker 6: with yourself? Watching to I'm hoping to be? Will cancel
- 17:24Speaker 6: on me? First, you're a low point.
- 17:26Speaker 4: You're really hoping for not to be tonight. But there's
- 17:33Speaker 4: nothing I mean.
- 17:35Speaker 5: In New York, if you're like out and about and
- 17:37Speaker 5: somebody canceled, it can be like a drag.
- 17:39Speaker 4: You're like, oh, well, I came all the way downtown,
- 17:41Speaker 4: I do this.
- 17:43Speaker 5: Packed about. Yeah, I like planned for my day. But
- 17:47Speaker 5: in LA, You're right, there is something about like and
- 17:51Speaker 5: because the excuses are generally like not weather related.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Here, no, never.
- 17:58Speaker 4: There, It's like I know when I go in that,
- 18:00Speaker 4: but people do, they don't care. They're like, let's go,
- 18:03Speaker 4: let's get out there, let's do it. I don't know.
- 18:06Speaker 5: I've lived in New York since I was nineteen years
- 18:09Speaker 5: old wild and which was in the nineteen hundred and
- 18:14Speaker 5: now I have this great life where I don't have
- 18:17Speaker 5: to spend all my time there, and I think it's
- 18:20Speaker 5: made me love it.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Way more having the option to not be there.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Because I'm here half the year with this awesome gig,
- 18:27Speaker 4: and I get to visit New York and like, on
- 18:32Speaker 4: my last trip to New York a couple of weeks ago,
- 18:34Speaker 4: I saw six shows in three days.
- 18:37Speaker 3: This is another thing to me. If I see one
- 18:40Speaker 3: show in a quarter, I'm like, oh, I'm tired. Wow,
- 18:44Speaker 3: what an attention span I have.
- 18:46Speaker 4: I saw three shows in one day?
- 18:48Speaker 3: And what shows did you say?
- 18:49Speaker 4: I saw Schmiga Dune two pm. Terrific.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I've heard It's wonderful.
- 18:53Speaker 4: It was great.
- 18:54Speaker 5: And I made sure I was sitting on the aisle,
- 18:56Speaker 5: and I knew that I could zip out very quickly
- 18:59Speaker 5: as soon as the curtain I'm ready for the curtain
- 19:01Speaker 5: call to be over. And as soon as the curtain
- 19:03Speaker 5: call was over, I zipped out. I had texted my
- 19:05Speaker 5: friends in the show, I'm not coming to say hello
- 19:08Speaker 5: because I am zipping out. I have to go right downtown.
- 19:11Speaker 5: So I zipped out right by. I was really close
- 19:14Speaker 5: to the train, hopped right on the train, went downtown
- 19:17Speaker 5: and I saw, can I be Frank?
- 19:19Speaker 3: Oh? Who is this?
- 19:21Speaker 4: It's about Frank.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Maya, Okay, the comedian from the eighties, and this this
- 19:27Speaker 5: this guy Morgan put together this incredible show about Frank
- 19:32Speaker 5: Maya where he does some of the Frank Maya Frank
- 19:35Speaker 5: ditabdes and he does some of Frank's material and then
- 19:40Speaker 5: most but mostly it's Morgan's musings on the world and
- 19:46Speaker 5: Frank then and what we are lacking in the Frank
- 19:50Speaker 5: we don't have now. It's Oh, it was so good
- 19:54Speaker 5: at the Soho Playhouse, which is a really cool, really
- 19:56Speaker 5: cool space and directed by Sam Pinkleton.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Oh my god, he's everywhere. He's everywhere and has directed
- 20:02Speaker 3: one hundred things in the last like two years.
- 20:04Speaker 4: I know he's he's earned it. He's very good. I
- 20:07Speaker 4: know him because I did.
- 20:09Speaker 5: I did a solo play many years ago called Bayern
- 20:12Speaker 5: Cellar that was written by Jonathan Tolan's and in it,
- 20:16Speaker 5: I had to do a little dance that plays about
- 20:20Speaker 5: the basement mall that Barbara strikes in.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Oh my god. Yeah, her male familiar.
- 20:25Speaker 5: And to play chronicles this actor that gets hired to
- 20:29Speaker 5: run the shops okay, And what he doesn't realize until
- 20:33Speaker 5: she walks in is that it's a play acting.
- 20:36Speaker 4: It's like an acting job.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Oh shot, I love this.
- 20:39Speaker 5: It's so brilliant. This show is absolutely brilliant. She comes
- 20:42Speaker 5: down to shop and none of that's real. I mean,
- 20:44Speaker 5: the mall is real.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Can if we talk about the mall for just a second.
- 20:48Speaker 4: We could talk about the mall all, I could talk
- 20:51Speaker 4: about the mall.
- 20:51Speaker 3: What do you know about the mall? Actually, I don't
- 20:54Speaker 3: want to get off of and we need to circle
- 20:56Speaker 3: back to all of this. But you can't bring up
- 20:58Speaker 3: the ma all without let's get some facts about the mall.
- 21:00Speaker 5: What I know about the mall is and what anyone
- 21:04Speaker 5: can access is her book My Passion for Design, which
- 21:08Speaker 5: is a coffee table book that came out I want
- 21:10Speaker 5: to say in twenty eleven.
- 21:11Speaker 3: She stole the title from me.
- 21:16Speaker 4: You were going to wreck that book.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I didn't have any idea. I just loved the title,
- 21:20Speaker 3: so I'll get around for design.
- 21:24Speaker 5: She has said that she was supposed to make a
- 21:27Speaker 5: movie and it fell apart, so instead she made a book,
- 21:31Speaker 5: and the book chronicles her renovations of the Malibu Compound,
- 21:39Speaker 5: which is a giant house and then another couple of houses.
- 21:45Speaker 5: And one of the houses is a barn. Looks like
- 21:48Speaker 5: a barn is a barn, but is a house. And
- 21:52Speaker 5: in the basement of this house, that's a barn. She
- 21:56Speaker 5: has built a street of shops, so it's like cobblestone wow,
- 22:00Speaker 5: and it's different shops like a like a European arcade.
- 22:05Speaker 5: There's an antiques store, a gift shoppy, and a sweet
- 22:11Speaker 5: shop where there is a frozen yogurt machine, a dress
- 22:15Speaker 5: shop where all of her like like collective. It's it's
- 22:18Speaker 5: where she keeps her collectibles essentially, so there's she has
- 22:21Speaker 5: a doll collection. She has I think the doll shop
- 22:24Speaker 5: is called B's Doll Shop, and they're name you know,
- 22:27Speaker 5: there's like and you can see all these pictures. They
- 22:28Speaker 5: are all available online or you can get the book
- 22:32Speaker 5: My Passion for Design, which when it came out was
- 22:36Speaker 5: like six thousand dollars and now you can get on
- 22:39Speaker 5: Amazon for like ten. But I have a copy of it,
- 22:42Speaker 5: of course, and we use it in the in the play.
- 22:45Speaker 5: The play is very uh for legal reasons.
- 22:49Speaker 4: It's very clear that like this is real and what
- 22:52Speaker 4: you're about to see is not sight.
- 22:54Speaker 5: So John is a genius and like the way that
- 22:57Speaker 5: he sets it up is just it's it's it's so
- 23:00Speaker 5: fantastic and it's one of these things that like he
- 23:03Speaker 5: asked me to read the script and I read it
- 23:05Speaker 5: and I was like, this is really good. And I
- 23:07Speaker 5: asked my partner Ryan, you know lovely Ryan, I was like, well,
- 23:10Speaker 5: you just look at this, just like take a look
- 23:12Speaker 5: and tell me if you think this is something that
- 23:14Speaker 5: I should do. And we were on I'll never forget,
- 23:17Speaker 5: we were on a plane. I handed in the script
- 23:20Speaker 5: and he looked at it, and about one minute later
- 23:24Speaker 5: he said, I already think you should do this.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Wow.
- 23:26Speaker 6: It was that yeah, it was that good, like it
- 23:30Speaker 6: could be a movie at some point.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Well, wouldn't it be funny if it was a movie.
- 23:33Speaker 4: And she played of course.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Barbara, who I'm sure in the play kills someone. That's
- 23:40Speaker 3: why you have to make it clear.
- 23:41Speaker 5: Yes, in the place she kills her adopted family, but
- 23:45Speaker 5: we make clear.
- 23:46Speaker 4: At the beginning that that's not that's not.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Sure shopping this to Tuvias adopted three.
- 23:54Speaker 5: So there's this amazing sequence in the play where he's
- 23:56Speaker 5: working in bees doll shop dusting. He's like, spends a
- 23:59Speaker 5: few days there alone, and then finally she shows up
- 24:01Speaker 5: and there's a ding at the door and she walks
- 24:04Speaker 5: and he's like, what do I do now?
- 24:06Speaker 3: Oh?
- 24:06Speaker 5: And she goes she looks at him and she says,
- 24:09Speaker 5: you have nice things here, and he realizes, ohere we're
- 24:14Speaker 5: making believe and the play goes on from there and
- 24:17Speaker 5: it's just so so wonderful and like, of course we
- 24:22Speaker 5: have we poke fun at her in the play, but
- 24:24Speaker 5: it's actually quite loving and very respectful, and there's nothing
- 24:28Speaker 5: in it. He doesn't put anything in it that you
- 24:30Speaker 5: know that she hasn't said in the press or whatever like,
- 24:33Speaker 5: so there's nothing that's like false or it's just it's
- 24:37Speaker 5: just a made up fantasia.
- 24:39Speaker 3: A celebration of Barbara and her.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Mall, yes, exactly.
- 24:42Speaker 3: How do you get access? I guess you just had
- 24:44Speaker 3: to be friends with her?
- 24:45Speaker 4: Well? And then I have, of course, because because I
- 24:48Speaker 4: ran the show.
- 24:48Speaker 5: I did the show. It was a big hit in
- 24:49Speaker 5: New York. We did it first forever. I've done it
- 24:51Speaker 5: six hundred times or more, and we did it off
- 24:55Speaker 5: Broadway for a long time, and a lot of people came,
- 24:58Speaker 5: a lot of like fame and people and people who
- 25:01Speaker 5: like and there was like one time somebody stopped me
- 25:03Speaker 5: and they were like, I was one of Barbara's assistants
- 25:05Speaker 5: and this is so accurate, or or somebody who was
- 25:09Speaker 5: like how did he know?
- 25:10Speaker 4: Like, did he work there?
- 25:12Speaker 3: Oh?
- 25:13Speaker 2: It?
- 25:13Speaker 4: So it's like John just channeled something so accurately Jane.
- 25:21Speaker 4: I think it's okay if I say this.
- 25:22Speaker 5: Jane Fonda came to the show twice, okay, And she
- 25:26Speaker 5: came backstage and she was like the first thing she
- 25:30Speaker 5: said to me.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Was I've been in that mall.
- 25:35Speaker 3: I was trapped there for six weeks.
- 25:38Speaker 5: And I was like oh, and she goes, do you
- 25:41Speaker 5: think Barbara would like this?
- 25:43Speaker 4: And I was like, I don't. I don't know.
- 25:45Speaker 5: You tell me and she goes, I don't think she would.
- 25:50Speaker 5: I was like, well, it's not it's not.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Really for her. It's more about her, Like we we
- 25:55Speaker 4: love her very much. We don't want any we don't want,
- 25:57Speaker 4: don't have anything I get. We love her, love her,
- 26:00Speaker 4: that's why we're doing this. But she was, she was
- 26:03Speaker 4: very she she came twice and she brought a dog.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Oh. I've seen her with.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Her dog front the dog and it's cute.
- 26:10Speaker 3: You can't say no to Jane Fonda's dog.
- 26:12Speaker 4: It's change. Let it just a legend.
- 26:16Speaker 3: And don't think Barbara would like it? Oh yeah, Barbara's
- 26:18Speaker 3: got a sense of humor. She's got a mall.
- 26:22Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if the mall is a
- 26:24Speaker 4: joke to her, though I think it's really just a
- 26:26Speaker 4: place to I can't think of another. I guess Graceland
- 26:29Speaker 4: or never Land, like like I'm trying to think, like
- 26:32Speaker 4: what places have stars not just done something eccentric, right,
- 26:39Speaker 4: but then also photographed it and.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Public shown off as though it was a normal.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Yeah, right, like like it's it's a step above, it's
- 26:51Speaker 5: it's not just architectural digestread.
- 26:55Speaker 4: This is a whole book.
- 26:57Speaker 5: There's a whole book chronicling the entire renovation, and like
- 27:02Speaker 5: the whole property, and there's a there's a great because
- 27:05Speaker 5: it's supposed to be. It's giving, like the whole the
- 27:09Speaker 5: whole thing is giving. And and I don't this is
- 27:11Speaker 5: not my opinion. I learned this from the play in
- 27:14Speaker 5: John Tolms. But it's giving Connecticut. It' very, it's very
- 27:18Speaker 5: there's a barn and there's like a farm. It's like
- 27:20Speaker 5: a farmhouse and in Malibu, and there's there's a great
- 27:25Speaker 5: scene in the play where he's like, no, this is
- 27:28Speaker 5: not your run of the mill barn. Barbara doesn't do
- 27:32Speaker 5: run of the mill anything, although she does in fact
- 27:34Speaker 5: run a mill. And then I opened the book and
- 27:36Speaker 5: there's a giant mill. There is a mill. There's a
- 27:39Speaker 5: mill on the property.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Is it milling anything?
- 27:42Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Well, there's a there's a I guess it's in a pond, right,
- 27:47Speaker 5: It's like it's like, yes, in a pond. And and
- 27:51Speaker 5: the pond that is described to how it's a koi pond,
- 27:56Speaker 5: and she there's a great section of the book photographs
- 27:59Speaker 5: of the coypon it. It's like in the the captions
- 28:01Speaker 5: are all in her voice, right, so you can read
- 28:04Speaker 5: the whole thing in her voice. It's really delightful. I
- 28:07Speaker 5: used to do it for people after the show backstage.
- 28:09Speaker 5: It was like it was like my like my late show.
- 28:12Speaker 5: I would be like, read my favorite parts of the book.
- 28:14Speaker 4: And one of them is this section with the koi pond,
- 28:16Speaker 4: where she's it's a beautiful photo of this beautiful photography
- 28:21Speaker 4: is great. The photography.
- 28:22Speaker 5: She got this great photographer to do it named Barbara
- 28:24Speaker 5: streisand does all the principal photography. And there's a beautiful
- 28:29Speaker 5: photo of the pond with the koi in it, and
- 28:32Speaker 5: they're all black and white koi and she's like, see
- 28:34Speaker 5: my cooi. They're all black and white. A little yellow
- 28:38Speaker 5: was okay, No orange, she would that's a.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Rule for everyone. If you have the orange ones, it's
- 28:44Speaker 3: a Tacki restaurant. No orange, it's a minture golf course.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Gosh, I love her. It's fun to talk about. I
- 28:53Speaker 4: haven't thought about her in a while.
- 28:54Speaker 3: And you've never met her. Nope, that's pretty amazing. I
- 28:56Speaker 3: feel like you've met a lot of Barber streisand level.
- 29:00Speaker 5: I've met Barbara adjacent people, but not Barbara. I think
- 29:03Speaker 5: they're keeping.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Me from her. I think it's a keeping yeah, protecting her,
- 29:09Speaker 4: which you know, I mean, she's let her. I don't
- 29:11Speaker 4: need them.
- 29:12Speaker 5: I have my She's very special to me for a
- 29:15Speaker 5: lot of lots of reasons. My mom and I used
- 29:18Speaker 5: to watch this concert that she her big comeback concert
- 29:21Speaker 5: from the early nineties. We used to watch it was
- 29:23Speaker 5: one of the things that we bonded. So I love
- 29:26Speaker 5: her like I'm happy with her where she is.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Oh.
- 29:29Speaker 4: But the whole point of that was that Pinkleton so
- 29:32Speaker 4: in it.
- 29:34Speaker 5: At the time, It's well documented that she was considering
- 29:37Speaker 5: doing a film of the musical Gypsy, and so that
- 29:41Speaker 5: becomes a part of the story of the play, and
- 29:44Speaker 5: I the character that the main character. I play all
- 29:47Speaker 5: the characters, but the main character is Alex the actor,
- 29:51Speaker 5: and he had played Gypsy in high school or something,
- 29:54Speaker 5: had played Herbie in Gypsy and high school. And so
- 29:57Speaker 5: they like, there's a scene where they kind of do
- 29:59Speaker 5: it together. I like rehearsed together, and there was a
- 30:03Speaker 5: little bit of a dance. Oh, choreograph came in and
- 30:07Speaker 5: choreographed it.
- 30:08Speaker 4: That was when I first met.
- 30:09Speaker 5: It was so great and lovely, and it made me
- 30:13Speaker 5: feel so because I was like really nervous about the dancing, right,
- 30:16Speaker 5: I'm not really a dancer, and dancing alone, Oh.
- 30:20Speaker 3: That seems terrifying when you don't have anybody to distract.
- 30:23Speaker 5: Yeah, Like it's one thing to like like partner with
- 30:27Speaker 5: a person.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Of course, or have a whole team of backup dancers.
- 30:30Speaker 5: But to do it by yourself and have to play
- 30:31Speaker 5: both parts was really challenging. So he came along and yeah, wow.
- 30:36Speaker 3: That's incredible, And so that is that kind of what
- 30:38Speaker 3: led to Omary.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Well, I don't know. Actually, Omary kind of came out
- 30:42Speaker 4: of the blue for me. When they asked me to
- 30:44Speaker 4: do Omary, I couldn't believe it. I was.
- 30:46Speaker 5: I was actually the night before they asked me to
- 30:51Speaker 5: do it. I was at dinner with Ryan and we
- 30:54Speaker 5: were just talking about it. It was shortly after the
- 30:56Speaker 5: Tony's Cole had won the Tony and it was so
- 30:59Speaker 5: cool and was a big hit and we were just like,
- 31:03Speaker 5: isn't it cool that it exists? And isn't it and
- 31:07Speaker 5: we loved it. We saw it off Broadway and we
- 31:09Speaker 5: saw it on Broadway. We loved it so much, and
- 31:10Speaker 5: we're like, isn't it cool that it's a thing and
- 31:12Speaker 5: it exists and now it's a hit and it's getting audience.
- 31:15Speaker 5: Is not just like this camp cult thing.
- 31:20Speaker 4: It's like a real it's a real.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Like a miracle it does it kind of especially now, yeah.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Totally, and and it's still running. It just they just
- 31:30Speaker 5: got a new Marry last night. Make Stalter is Merry
- 31:32Speaker 5: now and Maya Runolf just finished like a huge, huge
- 31:36Speaker 5: success doing it and it's it's a good play, Like
- 31:41Speaker 5: I stand by that, like this is a good play.
- 31:44Speaker 4: It's not just funny, Oh my god. Really think it's
- 31:48Speaker 4: really smart.
- 31:49Speaker 5: Yes, and the ways that it plays with its audience
- 31:52Speaker 5: is so ingenious and so yeah, we were just talking
- 31:56Speaker 5: about it and we were like, wouldn't it be fun
- 31:58Speaker 5: to be in at something? And I had sort of
- 31:59Speaker 5: resigned myself that I wouldn't ever be in it sure
- 32:03Speaker 5: because I'm not quite enough.
- 32:05Speaker 4: I don't know why.
- 32:06Speaker 3: To Mary, I of course don't agree with whatever you're son.
- 32:10Speaker 5: And I was like, maybe I could be you know,
- 32:12Speaker 5: Mary's husband at some point. And then they came and
- 32:16Speaker 5: they asked me to play Mary's teacher and I was like, oh, yeah,
- 32:18Speaker 5: Mary's teacher.
- 32:19Speaker 4: I didn't even think about it.
- 32:21Speaker 5: It's like it was a real treat and it's like
- 32:24Speaker 5: such a good part and such a good play and
- 32:26Speaker 5: I could do it. Jinx Monsoon and command Nanjianni and
- 32:29Speaker 5: Jen Harris played Mary's chaperone, and Tony Mock, who was
- 32:34Speaker 5: the original Mary's Husband's assistant I think is what his
- 32:36Speaker 5: name is. And uh, it was. It was totally dreaming
- 32:40Speaker 5: getting to work with Jinks Monsoon. Oh my gosh, she
- 32:43Speaker 5: she's so funny.
- 32:44Speaker 4: She's so funny and so alive on stage. Like it's
- 32:49Speaker 4: like it was this. It felt like working with Sutton.
- 32:53Speaker 5: Foster or Patti both of them. I mean, it was
- 32:56Speaker 5: it was that exciting. They're like when you're on stage
- 32:59Speaker 5: with like a star that just doesn't even like need lighting,
- 33:05Speaker 5: you know what I mean, Like they're just so electric
- 33:09Speaker 5: and so vibrant and and so alive. And all three
- 33:13Speaker 5: of them, actually, I would say all three of those
- 33:16Speaker 5: those women that I've I've been in plays with at
- 33:18Speaker 5: some point were so present that I messed up and
- 33:23Speaker 5: they helped.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Me, you know what I mean, Like, like that's how
- 33:27Speaker 4: like alive they are on stage? It was it was awesome.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Do you have a dream casting for Mary?
- 33:37Speaker 4: Ooh you know that's a really good Martin short?
- 33:43Speaker 3: Oh my god?
- 33:43Speaker 4: How crazy? Would that be?
- 33:45Speaker 3: Unbelievable that we would knock down walls to see that?
- 33:49Speaker 5: Of course, like the like you know, the bad answer
- 33:51Speaker 5: is like miss Piggy, which is which was a cold
- 33:55Speaker 5: said if there was ever a movie, who will play Mary?
- 33:57Speaker 3: Right?
- 33:57Speaker 4: They said?
- 33:58Speaker 5: They said miss Piggy, which is brilliant and would be amazing.
- 34:02Speaker 5: I think it's like obviously like that's.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Limited without legs, But wouldn't that be wouldn't that be amazing? Match?
- 34:13Speaker 3: Well, I think there's something else we should talk about.
- 34:16Speaker 3: It's been kind of just in the periphery here, and
- 34:18Speaker 3: I know you've been trying to avoid the topic and
- 34:20Speaker 3: push away from an obvious mistake you made coming into
- 34:23Speaker 3: the podcast.
- 34:26Speaker 4: I just feel weird coming empty ended. I would feel
- 34:29Speaker 4: weird about that.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Well, you were on the show before and you brought
- 34:32Speaker 3: something and it was a huge explosion between us, kind
- 34:35Speaker 3: of a rift for years. I had to take you
- 34:39Speaker 3: out to an apology or you had to take me
- 34:41Speaker 3: out to an apology breakfast excuse.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Me, which was nice and I got a pair of
- 34:44Speaker 4: pants out of there.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Yeah, so it was again kind of self interest always
- 34:48Speaker 3: leads the way with Michael Yury. You brought a gift.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Should we open it here on the show?
- 34:52Speaker 4: I think it's I think we want as well. I mean,
- 34:55Speaker 4: at least clear the air, okay, I like you to
- 34:57Speaker 4: see what it is for a good or badge. I
- 34:59Speaker 4: went to some trouble to, you know, gorgeously wrap thank you,
- 35:03Speaker 4: thank you.
- 35:03Speaker 5: I went to a lot of trouble to wrap it.
- 35:05Speaker 5: And I think the color is nice and.
- 35:07Speaker 3: The bow has already fallen off. So your little job.
- 35:11Speaker 5: I just when I saw it, I thought of you immediately.
- 35:16Speaker 5: I don't know why, but it made me think of
- 35:18Speaker 5: you immediately.
- 35:20Speaker 4: It's a little big I hope you have a place
- 35:22Speaker 4: for it.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I would say it's about two feet by.
- 35:27Speaker 4: No, it's large by four maybe four.
- 35:33Speaker 3: This is we're two men with no special reasoning skills, butts,
- 35:37Speaker 3: it's like a two by it's life size guessing sizes.
- 35:42Speaker 3: This is what people like, let's say two by eighteen. Okay,
- 35:48Speaker 3: don't ask.
- 35:51Speaker 4: It seems like it's getting bigger as you hold it.
- 35:54Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Large, flat, flat pink, kind of a plastic pink for us.
- 35:59Speaker 5: Right open it, rip into it. Let's see what you got.
- 36:06Speaker 3: I haven't seen the front yet, but it appears to
- 36:09Speaker 3: be some I'm gonna guess this is some sort of painting.
- 36:13Speaker 4: It's a it's a canvas. You you can kind of
- 36:15Speaker 4: see from the back that it's a canvas. Oh, and
- 36:22Speaker 4: it is revealed see it, see you guys in the
- 36:30Speaker 4: same fame.
- 36:32Speaker 3: It's a painting. It's you. It's you, Bridger.
- 36:38Speaker 4: I saw it and I said, that's you.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Where did this come from?
- 36:45Speaker 2: This?
- 36:45Speaker 3: I should describe to our non tween listener, this is
- 36:49Speaker 3: a painting of essentially me.
- 36:53Speaker 4: It's you. It's it's a it's a victory.
- 36:56Speaker 3: And maybe maybe like ginger twink.
- 37:00Speaker 5: With glasses and it's it's just it just I don't
- 37:05Speaker 5: know who else it could be.
- 37:06Speaker 3: This look, this is striking.
- 37:08Speaker 5: It has to be Bridger Wyneger fan fiction in painting form.
- 37:13Speaker 5: I just I don't know how.
- 37:15Speaker 4: I don't know how well.
- 37:16Speaker 5: I'm dying for you to get a suit like this,
- 37:19Speaker 5: oh my, and and I want there to be a
- 37:22Speaker 5: photo shoot.
- 37:25Speaker 4: With you and with these little glasses. I don't you know.
- 37:29Speaker 5: I saw it in Palm Springs at a consignment store
- 37:32Speaker 5: and it wouldn't stop staring at me, and I had to.
- 37:36Speaker 5: I had to get it for you. I've been holding
- 37:38Speaker 5: it hoping you would invite me back on the podcast
- 37:41Speaker 5: so that I can bring it for you.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Just occasional text hinting. It looks like somebody painted me
- 37:47Speaker 3: as like someone's mean accountant husband, like in uh like
- 37:53Speaker 3: yeah gilded age.
- 37:55Speaker 4: Yeah, you were like, that will ever work? We don't
- 37:58Speaker 4: have that money.
- 38:00Speaker 5: I've been looking at the books all day, honey.
- 38:04Speaker 3: It says here it was. There's a name on it.
- 38:08Speaker 3: It says Mike Michaels ninety one, which is also weird.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I must someone someone with the last name Michaels.
- 38:14Speaker 5: I know that that probably also selfishly drew me to it.
- 38:17Speaker 3: You saw that first, this is your first time saying
- 38:20Speaker 3: the right name.
- 38:24Speaker 5: Yeah, so I guess somebody. It's also an audacious signature.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a fit. I like this sort of signature.
- 38:29Speaker 3: It's just we're just writing your name.
- 38:31Speaker 4: This is my name. This is my painting I made that.
- 38:34Speaker 4: I was like, how it goes on the side, like
- 38:35Speaker 4: you don't you can't quite frame it. Oh, the canvas
- 38:39Speaker 4: is like wrapped around.
- 38:41Speaker 3: That's this is a wrapped canvas like that. This is
- 38:44Speaker 3: I mean, an original as far as we can tell.
- 38:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I think this is definitely that Michael's. Michael's touched it.
- 38:50Speaker 3: What store did you get it at? In Palm Spring?
- 38:53Speaker 4: I got it at Let's see where can we put
- 38:56Speaker 4: the estate sale?
- 38:57Speaker 5: And Palm Springs there's a lot of consign yes, and
- 39:00Speaker 5: then we love a consignment shop, and which I as
- 39:05Speaker 5: far as I know, means like you're not. It's like
- 39:08Speaker 5: they there's an owner, and then the shop is like
- 39:12Speaker 5: selling it for that owner.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Oh why didn't I've never really put any thought into
- 39:15Speaker 3: the word consignment.
- 39:16Speaker 4: I think that's what consignment means.
- 39:18Speaker 5: Because we tried to buy something from a cut assignment
- 39:21Speaker 5: shop and then we got cold feet and tried to get.
- 39:24Speaker 4: Out of it. And they were like, well, we already
- 39:25Speaker 4: told the owner. And I was like, oh, I see here.
- 39:28Speaker 4: So we're disappointing a lot of people if we don't
- 39:31Speaker 4: buy this thing, not this something else. But uh, it's
- 39:35Speaker 4: called estate sale and it's in Pump Springs.
- 39:38Speaker 5: There's a couple of them. There's one called a state sale,
- 39:41Speaker 5: there's one called Misty's and they've got you know, it's
- 39:44Speaker 5: basically like when someone moves on from this mortal coil.
- 39:50Speaker 5: There furniture can be sold. Sometimes it's donated, and and
- 39:56Speaker 5: you know, in the desert, in the in the Pump
- 39:58Speaker 5: Springs and the other desert cities, a lot of people
- 40:01Speaker 5: moving on.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Apparently that's where you go to die.
- 40:04Speaker 4: So there's a lot of great stuff.
- 40:06Speaker 3: There is a lot of good stuff out there.
- 40:08Speaker 4: A lot of people can show up there. They have
- 40:10Speaker 4: nice stuff. They spend a lifetime collecting it, and then
- 40:14Speaker 4: when they go, they you know, the kids.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Say, if we don't want any of this chunk.
- 40:18Speaker 5: Let's see what we can get for it, and they
- 40:21Speaker 5: sell it at consignment and this place a state sale.
- 40:25Speaker 4: It was on a wall and unbelievable. I know, I'm
- 40:28Speaker 4: so happy at talking I hope everyone likes it at
- 40:32Speaker 4: home or here at the studio.
- 40:35Speaker 3: It feels like it might be an we'll see if
- 40:37Speaker 3: we can figure out a way to have it here
- 40:39Speaker 3: at the studio, possibly just to make the guests even
- 40:41Speaker 3: more uncomfortable with whatever's going on.
- 40:44Speaker 4: I would be so honored if this stayed here as
- 40:46Speaker 4: part of the studio and every guest had to look
- 40:49Speaker 4: at it and acknowledge it, and you had to talk
- 40:50Speaker 4: about me every episode.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Oh that's true. This is oh so Ultimately, this is
- 40:56Speaker 3: just a publicity scam.
- 40:58Speaker 4: This is yes, this is I'm playing I'm playing two
- 41:01Speaker 4: dimensional chests with this, with this one.
- 41:03Speaker 3: This is how you stay in the convent.
- 41:05Speaker 4: This isn't a one laugh gift. This is a recurring laugh.
- 41:11Speaker 3: This is going to we have this painting of Io here,
- 41:14Speaker 3: and it's going to overshadow Io because people are always
- 41:16Speaker 3: like is that Io? Now? People are can be so
- 41:18Speaker 3: distracted from They're gonna be like is that you? And
- 41:21Speaker 3: I'll say, yes, it's from somebody I can't remember.
- 41:25Speaker 4: But the name is right there. How can you forget
- 41:27Speaker 4: the name?
- 41:28Speaker 3: It's Michaels, Michaels something. What was the thing you were
- 41:32Speaker 3: going to buy?
- 41:32Speaker 4: Then?
- 41:32Speaker 3: Got cold feet about it was a table.
- 41:35Speaker 5: It was a big, very expensive table, and we did
- 41:39Speaker 5: get out of it.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Okay, how did you like? What were you penalized?
- 41:43Speaker 4: We had to we had to work off a credit.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Well I wasn't aware of this trap.
- 41:49Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah they were. We we had a credit. Actually,
- 41:52Speaker 5: I think we still have.
- 41:53Speaker 4: No.
- 41:53Speaker 5: No, we finally did, actually because then when I got this,
- 41:56Speaker 5: we were outside the credit.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Okay, Oh this is this was almost like an escape
- 42:00Speaker 3: from a curse. The only way to break the curse
- 42:04Speaker 3: is to buy it enchanted painting.
- 42:07Speaker 4: If we didn't buy this, you might never be free.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Oh interesting, I feel like this, or you would always
- 42:15Speaker 4: be part.
- 42:15Speaker 3: Of me was trapped in the consignments. Yes, in chains,
- 42:19Speaker 3: I'm finally free. Fal maybe something good will happen.
- 42:24Speaker 2: You know.
- 42:24Speaker 3: That's so.
- 42:25Speaker 4: I sometimes feel that way because I go to a
- 42:27Speaker 4: lot of shops like that, like revivals in the Desert
- 42:30Speaker 4: are great. Or in New York we have housing works.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Yes, or the Cure what's that what it's called in
- 42:37Speaker 3: the East Village. There's a room store that's really great
- 42:41Speaker 3: there that I go to anytime I'm there.
- 42:42Speaker 4: We gotta go.
- 42:43Speaker 5: Yeah, that sounds amazing, or or hear this out of
- 42:48Speaker 5: the out of the box, you know those out of
- 42:50Speaker 5: the out of the closet, thank you?
- 42:52Speaker 3: Wow what you've been canceled as a gay person and
- 42:56Speaker 3: somehow that was came out of the box last week?
- 43:02Speaker 4: Wow?
- 43:03Speaker 5: Oh the history, all the history of out of the
- 43:05Speaker 5: closet just like thrown out the door box of the God.
- 43:10Speaker 4: That's humiliating. But those places, I love them. Those places
- 43:13Speaker 4: are great.
- 43:14Speaker 5: And I love going through the record collection. I collect vinyl.
- 43:18Speaker 4: Oh I would.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Love to, but I think I would get out of control.
- 43:20Speaker 4: Oh it's so great. I love it. So I listened
- 43:22Speaker 4: to Vinyl every day.
- 43:24Speaker 3: You've got You've got very timeless taste. I think as
- 43:28Speaker 3: far you were just a Herb Helper, Herb.
- 43:33Speaker 4: Herb Helpert, Herb Alpert.
- 43:35Speaker 3: I don't know this, but it's like you. No, I
- 43:39Speaker 3: think I'm like probably vaguely aware of his music.
- 43:42Speaker 4: You know his music for sure.
- 43:43Speaker 3: But you posted to Instagram that you wore out the
- 43:46Speaker 3: cassette tape as a child.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Yes, which is incredible.
- 43:49Speaker 5: I love Herb Alpert, love this music.
- 43:54Speaker 4: I have so many of his records on vinyl.
- 43:57Speaker 5: He plays the trumpet, okay, and he also a and
- 44:03Speaker 5: P records. I'm sorry, an R Records. He's the A
- 44:06Speaker 5: of an R Records, So like he's a he's a
- 44:09Speaker 5: very wealthy man. But he like was responsible for a lot.
- 44:12Speaker 5: He's responsible for Sergio Mendez. Like he sort of produced
- 44:15Speaker 5: he didn't you know, I mean he didn't make he
- 44:17Speaker 5: didn't teach the trumpet, but yeah, he sort of like
- 44:20Speaker 5: made that a whole wow thing and the whole possibility.
- 44:24Speaker 5: And he had great relationships with the Carpenters and Burt Bacharack.
- 44:28Speaker 5: And he's ninety one years old, Bridger, and he's still wow.
- 44:34Speaker 5: He still blows good for And he came like dancing
- 44:38Speaker 5: on at the Hollywood Bowl the other night, and he
- 44:42Speaker 5: was and he sounds great. And he has a new combo.
- 44:45Speaker 5: I don't think it's the same Tijuana brass guys, but
- 44:48Speaker 5: he's got this new group of people and it's just,
- 44:51Speaker 5: I mean, the most perfect Hollywood Bowl.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Knight who introduced you to him as a child, you.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Know, it was probably good question.
- 45:00Speaker 5: My parents probably had the tape, okay, it seemed, and
- 45:04Speaker 5: my parents had records, They had some Herb Alpert records.
- 45:07Speaker 4: It was a big deal. Like people especially you know
- 45:11Speaker 4: in the sixties and seventies. I think it was. It
- 45:13Speaker 4: was because it's great like dinner music, right, there's no
- 45:16Speaker 4: there's no.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Put on some light jazzy music in the background.
- 45:19Speaker 5: Yeah, for party, party music or dinner music. So I
- 45:22Speaker 5: think a lot of people had the records. And there's
- 45:25Speaker 5: some I read some statistics that the one year he
- 45:27Speaker 5: sold more records than the Beatles or something like that. Oh,
- 45:30Speaker 5: and I think, uh so, I think I think he
- 45:33Speaker 5: was the soundtrack of a lot of people's lives. And
- 45:37Speaker 5: you will you would know if you like put on
- 45:39Speaker 5: Herb Alpert. It's like, oh yeah, I've heard that a
- 45:42Speaker 5: lot of stuff. Get there's this great song called Rise
- 45:46Speaker 5: that I think was post Tijuana Brass. It was just
- 45:49Speaker 5: Herb Alpert. But it gets sampled all the time.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Oh interesting, Can you think of an example of being sampled?
- 45:55Speaker 4: No, I'm sorry yet, but I know it happened. Okay.
- 46:03Speaker 5: And then the tape that I wore out might have
- 46:05Speaker 5: been a tape of movie music or it might have
- 46:09Speaker 5: been like a James Bond.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Oh that makes sense.
- 46:13Speaker 5: Because that particular song which he did play the other
- 46:16Speaker 5: night that I posted a video of was Casino Royale. Okay,
- 46:21Speaker 5: which was a James Bond movie, but like a parody
- 46:24Speaker 5: James Bond movie.
- 46:25Speaker 3: I've tried figuring. I've never seen the movie, but I
- 46:27Speaker 3: feel like I've read about that at some point and
- 46:29Speaker 3: it was like, wait, I know what wasn't who was like,
- 46:32Speaker 3: especially considering now how protective people are of like I
- 46:35Speaker 3: and whatever, I know, what was this thing?
- 46:37Speaker 5: I'm not sure it was, and I should know since
- 46:40Speaker 5: I love the song so much, but I think it
- 46:42Speaker 5: was like I never saw it, but I think it
- 46:44Speaker 5: was a movie that came out in the you know,
- 46:47Speaker 5: the the golden era of James Bond, the Roger Moore,
- 46:51Speaker 5: Sean Connery era. They was there was another James Bond
- 46:54Speaker 5: movie that was a comedy and instead of it being
- 46:57Speaker 5: like Shirley Bassey singing Thunderball, it was herb Albert. Yeah,
- 47:06Speaker 5: and it's just an awesome song. And then I didn't
- 47:08Speaker 5: know this until I posted this on Instagram, But apparently
- 47:12Speaker 5: a lot of people know that music because there's a
- 47:15Speaker 5: hilarious Will Forte sketch on SNL where he plays a
- 47:20Speaker 5: coach and they're like there, it's halftime of a basketball
- 47:25Speaker 5: game and they're like down by fifty points and he's like,
- 47:29Speaker 5: my coach once played this song for me and I'm
- 47:31Speaker 5: gonna play it for you now. And he pulls out
- 47:32Speaker 5: a tape and he puts it in and it's Herb
- 47:35Speaker 5: Alpert and he just dances and it's so funny. I'd
- 47:40Speaker 5: never seen it, and all these people were messaging me.
- 47:42Speaker 3: On Instagram about it.
- 47:44Speaker 4: So I love him, Herb. I love her and I
- 47:48Speaker 4: love collecting.
- 47:50Speaker 3: How many records do you think you have?
- 47:51Speaker 5: Well, I have limited. My I don't have that many.
- 47:54Speaker 5: I have two collections. I have because I have here
- 47:57Speaker 5: and in New York, New York, we have more room,
- 48:01Speaker 5: so I have more, probably, I don't know, definitely more
- 48:05Speaker 5: than a hundred. I keep it limited, but I will
- 48:09Speaker 5: buy because sometimes you can get a record, like at
- 48:11Speaker 5: a revivals or at a housing works, like.
- 48:14Speaker 3: A great record for a dollar Oh so cheap.
- 48:17Speaker 5: It's crazy, and it's like this will give me hours
- 48:20Speaker 5: of joy.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a nice way of looking at it.
- 48:23Speaker 4: And sometimes I buy. I have some records in both cities.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Oh wow, that's actually a good idea.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Yeah, because I love them so much and I see them.
- 48:30Speaker 5: You know, if there's a Bear listen, if there's a
- 48:32Speaker 5: Barry MANI Low record.
- 48:34Speaker 3: I mean you don't have the dombake that you're getting
- 48:35Speaker 3: every Barry man record.
- 48:37Speaker 4: And it's a dollar. I'm not going to leave.
- 48:40Speaker 5: First of all, I'm not going to leave a Barry
- 48:42Speaker 5: Manilow record with a dollar price tag on it. I'm
- 48:45Speaker 5: taking it just so no one else sees it and thinks,
- 48:49Speaker 5: why is that only a dollar?
- 48:50Speaker 3: Because they're protecting Barry.
- 48:51Speaker 5: I'm protecting the brand, and I will not lee. I
- 48:55Speaker 5: did this with Liza Manelli. There was Eliza Minelli at
- 48:58Speaker 5: Carnegie Hall record for a dollar and housing works, and
- 49:01Speaker 5: I said, that is that will not do.
- 49:03Speaker 4: I will not leave. Liza deserves better than to be
- 49:08Speaker 4: on sale for one dollar, and I will not leave this.
- 49:12Speaker 3: There's some poor, impressionable team that could have used that
- 49:15Speaker 3: record you've robbed.
- 49:17Speaker 4: That's true.
- 49:18Speaker 3: You've robbed them that, It's true.
- 49:19Speaker 4: But they wouldn't have known how to do it.
- 49:22Speaker 5: They wouldn't have understood why it's so important, why the
- 49:25Speaker 5: Carnegie Hall album is so important.
- 49:27Speaker 4: Because she just kicked the drugs.
- 49:29Speaker 5: So when she sings Cabaret and she says I'm not
- 49:31Speaker 5: going down like Elsie, it meant.
- 49:33Speaker 4: Something, you know, that one that's a really good album.
- 49:39Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 49:40Speaker 3: Well, I was gonna buy it, but I can't find
- 49:42Speaker 3: an affordable copy.
- 49:43Speaker 4: So I have three.
- 49:44Speaker 3: I'll leend you.
- 49:46Speaker 5: I'll lend you my spare record player, and I actually
- 49:49Speaker 5: have a spare I have a.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Traveler Oh to keep it in your suitcase.
- 49:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I have a traveler record player that I that's
- 49:55Speaker 5: in my trailer at Shrinking right now.
- 49:57Speaker 3: Wow.
- 49:58Speaker 4: I have one in New York too.
- 49:59Speaker 5: That's amazing, No, I know, And this is a pretty
- 50:01Speaker 5: new thing for me because when the pandemic hit, Ryan
- 50:05Speaker 5: and I were, you know, quarantined as we all were,
- 50:09Speaker 5: and we were in New York, so we were like
- 50:11Speaker 5: quarantine in our little box. We didn't have outdoor space
- 50:14Speaker 5: or anything like that, and we were listening to music
- 50:16Speaker 5: all day every day and it just became like so
- 50:21Speaker 5: background because we just put on, you know, a playlist
- 50:26Speaker 5: and it would just keep playing and we didn't have
- 50:28Speaker 5: to monitor it or anything like that. And I was
- 50:30Speaker 5: and one day I said, should we start a record collection?
- 50:35Speaker 5: And it was the quickest Ryan and I ever agreed
- 50:37Speaker 5: on anything.
- 50:38Speaker 4: Really. Yeah.
- 50:39Speaker 5: Immediately He's like, yes, we should, we should. And then
- 50:42Speaker 5: because of supply chain, it took forever for us to
- 50:48Speaker 5: get our record player we ordered it, nothing was open
- 50:50Speaker 5: and it took forever. That was really sad.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Yeah, the supply chain thing was really weird, dream about
- 50:56Speaker 3: having an object, so like that'll be a year from now.
- 51:00Speaker 4: But then it did finally come.
- 51:02Speaker 5: Our record, our first record player did finally come and
- 51:05Speaker 5: we started ordering you know, records, and then that summer,
- 51:09Speaker 5: the summer of twenty twenty, we you know, quarantined and
- 51:14Speaker 5: then drove to see our families and rated the old
- 51:20Speaker 5: record collections. Oh that's so cool, So my parents, you
- 51:23Speaker 5: rated my parents' old record collection, Ryan's moms and Ryan's
- 51:28Speaker 5: stepmom's collections.
- 51:30Speaker 4: So we have a lot of really good stuff.
- 51:32Speaker 3: And your music tastes lines up enough that it's really
- 51:35Speaker 3: never an issue.
- 51:36Speaker 5: Oh yeah, me and Ryan, we have a lot of
- 51:40Speaker 5: Barry man Low that he doesn't listen to as much
- 51:43Speaker 5: as I tell sure.
- 51:44Speaker 4: And then a lot of Madonna that I listened.
- 51:47Speaker 3: Too far less okay, interesting.
- 51:49Speaker 5: Yes, I love Madonna, right, but it's not you know,
- 51:54Speaker 5: it's not my it's just not my jam.
- 51:56Speaker 3: The way it is, they line up with the sort
- 51:58Speaker 3: of listening you're usually doing, which is more for like
- 52:01Speaker 3: an elderly person.
- 52:03Speaker 4: I have the music taste of the people who's furniture's
- 52:09Speaker 4: in consignments.
- 52:11Speaker 3: Who do you think is like the most current musician
- 52:14Speaker 3: or band that you listened to?
- 52:15Speaker 4: Oh, okay, Harry Styles.
- 52:17Speaker 3: Okay, that's correct. I really like Harry Styles.
- 52:19Speaker 5: Yeah, that's probably that's new. He has a new album
- 52:24Speaker 5: that's great, which I really like. I went to his concert.
- 52:27Speaker 5: I wasn't a fan.
- 52:28Speaker 4: Until I went to his concert.
- 52:30Speaker 3: Oh interesting.
- 52:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I was invited to go because I knew someone
- 52:33Speaker 5: in the uh in the opener.
- 52:36Speaker 4: Oh and oh my god.
- 52:40Speaker 3: It's probably a big show.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Oh my god. It was like it was crazy.
- 52:44Speaker 5: It was at Madison Square Garden and we watched from
- 52:46Speaker 5: a box actually above and he was just that album
- 52:52Speaker 5: that I think I already kind of knew that album
- 52:55Speaker 5: because Ryan had gotten it.
- 52:56Speaker 4: But that second album, his second album.
- 52:59Speaker 3: More not the newest one, but them.
- 53:01Speaker 4: Yeah. One has the like music for a sushi restaurant
- 53:04Speaker 4: and it's called but it is.
- 53:08Speaker 5: It is so amazing, And this concert was just it
- 53:13Speaker 5: was It was Madison Square Garden was like literally shaking.
- 53:19Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure I can't imagine the sound alone.
- 53:23Speaker 5: And to be kind of above it with a bird's
- 53:25Speaker 5: eye view was like and I had just this is
- 53:28Speaker 5: a random I had just been there like a week
- 53:31Speaker 5: earlier for Billy Joel. Oh wow, to see Billy Joel
- 53:35Speaker 5: in one of his last concerts at the in his
- 53:38Speaker 5: residency mats. Remember he did one a month for years.
- 53:42Speaker 5: I saw it a couple of times, but the last
- 53:44Speaker 5: time I saw it it was I was like, oh,
- 53:46Speaker 5: I've never seen a concert this crazy before, this raucous.
- 53:49Speaker 4: And then a week later.
- 53:51Speaker 3: Harry said, sorry, Billy, no one cares.
- 53:54Speaker 4: Harryes that hold my cosmo or whatever. Harry styles drinks.
- 53:59Speaker 5: But what it's what was really special that night was
- 54:03Speaker 5: like they went nuts. But the song that the audience
- 54:05Speaker 5: went the craziest for was you don't Know You're beautiful.
- 54:09Speaker 5: Oh it's a one direction song.
- 54:12Speaker 3: Oh yeah, of course.
- 54:14Speaker 4: That makes you beautiful? And it was I was so
- 54:18Speaker 4: moved because it's like all these girls, all these like
- 54:21Speaker 4: teenage girls, and that song is so sweet. It's such
- 54:27Speaker 4: a sweet and that's that's our anthem. It's an anthem. Yeah, totally,
- 54:30Speaker 4: it's an anthem for everybody. Yeah, so I think, yeah,
- 54:34Speaker 4: that's probably the one that's say. Oh you know who else?
- 54:36Speaker 4: I really like Brandy Carlisle, Okay, really.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Into her anytime I hear Brandy Carlisle, I feel like
- 54:41Speaker 3: it's somebody from the seventies.
- 54:43Speaker 4: Yeah, she's totally got that five.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Maybe that's why, right right, that makes sense to me.
- 54:47Speaker 5: And you know, Harry Styles now is giving you know,
- 54:52Speaker 5: that kind of performance is not unlike you know my
- 54:56Speaker 5: man alone.
- 54:57Speaker 3: Oh he's very He's our next barrier in the seven
- 55:00Speaker 3: of You know, there'll be people watching him in Vegas
- 55:03Speaker 3: in forty years. No kind of thing.
- 55:04Speaker 4: But you know, Menilo just beat cancer.
- 55:07Speaker 3: Oh good for him.
- 55:08Speaker 5: Yes, wow, he just had cancer and like had part
- 55:11Speaker 5: of his lung removes six months ago, and he's back
- 55:14Speaker 5: doing arena concerts. He's back on toes eighty three.
- 55:18Speaker 3: This sort of thing to me, this the Herb at
- 55:20Speaker 3: ninety one is like I got ripped off genetically because
- 55:23Speaker 3: I couldn't do it now, you know what I mean.
- 55:26Speaker 3: I'm just like, well, I just really got ripped off.
- 55:29Speaker 5: But you got to think like with her, like thinking
- 55:31Speaker 5: about Herb Albert and Barry Metelo, which I do a lot,
- 55:34Speaker 5: I believe you kind of figure like that exercise of
- 55:39Speaker 5: blowing through a trumpet or singing, you know, like a
- 55:43Speaker 5: ninety minute concert two hundred and fifty times a year.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Like, that's going to be really good for you. Your
- 55:49Speaker 4: heart and your lungs must.
- 55:51Speaker 5: Be an incredible shape if you're doing that so consistently. Yeah,
- 55:55Speaker 5: for so many decades.
- 55:57Speaker 3: Being surrounded by an audience of screaming Michael Yuri's.
- 56:00Speaker 4: Yes, fueling you well, taking you to Berry Madelove.
- 56:08Speaker 3: Does he ever? He's only ever in Vegas.
- 56:11Speaker 4: He's doing a stadium tour right now. Not here, not.
- 56:15Speaker 5: I don't know when he's going to be back in California.
- 56:17Speaker 5: But we're going to Vegas.
- 56:19Speaker 3: We should we should all go. And does he live
- 56:21Speaker 3: in Palm Springs? Yeah, I think you're going to cross paths.
- 56:24Speaker 5: Oh I've met him many times. Yeah, Oh, no, we're pals.
- 56:28Speaker 5: I never met.
- 56:31Speaker 4: We're pals.
- 56:31Speaker 5: I the second I back in the day when Ugly
- 56:35Speaker 5: Betty was first on TV, which is my big break.
- 56:38Speaker 4: As soon as I was on TV, I used every
- 56:42Speaker 4: every ounce of influence to meet Barry made my first Yeah.
- 56:48Speaker 5: The first time I saw him in concert, I was
- 56:50Speaker 5: in the Nosebleeds at Madison Square Garden. But then the
- 56:52Speaker 5: second time that was in Vegas and I got to
- 56:55Speaker 5: meet him, and uh, and he has come to see
- 56:59Speaker 5: me he came to see.
- 57:00Speaker 4: Buyer and Selling.
- 57:00Speaker 3: Oh that's so lovely.
- 57:01Speaker 4: You came to see the BARBISTI SAMs.
- 57:03Speaker 3: He may have been in the mall.
- 57:04Speaker 4: He may have.
- 57:05Speaker 3: They have a great duet together, and I can see
- 57:07Speaker 3: him hitting up the mall.
- 57:09Speaker 5: And he came to see Torts songs. He's a he's
- 57:11Speaker 5: a good guy. He's a really good guy. Yeah, and
- 57:14Speaker 5: all the people he keeps around him are very cool.
- 57:18Speaker 5: And I have had many lovely nights in theaters watching me.
- 57:25Speaker 4: I know, I'm such a weird now.
- 57:27Speaker 3: I think it's nice. Is there anything left to say
- 57:30Speaker 3: about this haunted painting of me?
- 57:33Speaker 5: Well, I'm glad it's back with you after you posed
- 57:36Speaker 5: for it in a previous life. Before that that Bridger
- 57:42Speaker 5: died of consumption or whatever.
- 57:45Speaker 4: I think. I don't know. I'm just so happy you
- 57:48Speaker 4: have I know.
- 57:49Speaker 3: I mean, this is just I think this is a
- 57:51Speaker 3: top This may be the best gift that's ever been
- 57:53Speaker 3: done on the podcast. I mean, like, how do we
- 57:55Speaker 3: top this? This is a crazy thing. It's you, This
- 57:58Speaker 3: is an insane object.
- 58:00Speaker 4: It was looking at me from the wall State sound
- 58:03Speaker 4: to me.
- 58:04Speaker 5: It's so I'm so I love it. I also I
- 58:07Speaker 5: love I love this kind of this era, Like I
- 58:11Speaker 5: think I think I could have lived.
- 58:14Speaker 3: Oh, sure, you could easily slip into this sort of thing.
- 58:17Speaker 3: I can see you in the sort of suit.
- 58:19Speaker 4: You too, I mean, your hair almost giving.
- 58:21Speaker 3: I'm the guy in the painting.
- 58:23Speaker 4: Hair is dried now.
- 58:25Speaker 7: Okay, thank god, thank god. But I think I think
- 58:30Speaker 7: it's going to be very happy with unbelievable. Wow, this
- 58:33Speaker 7: is a cherished object. I don't even know what to say.
- 58:37Speaker 4: It's definitely better than my last gift.
- 58:39Speaker 3: The last gift was very thought so, but this is like,
- 58:42Speaker 3: I mean, it's just now we've got a whole range
- 58:43Speaker 3: of things.
- 58:44Speaker 4: Yeah, you could actually use the previous gift to measure Wow.
- 58:47Speaker 3: Interesting that we had kind of a measurement topic.
- 58:50Speaker 4: I mean, last time I got you a measuring tape
- 58:54Speaker 4: from Ikea. But I was just because I was inspired
- 58:59Speaker 4: by Paul really rip I know, the best, the absolute
- 59:04Speaker 4: best his documentary since we last spoke.
- 59:08Speaker 3: It came out good, so good, yeah, really beautiful.
- 59:12Speaker 4: Wasn't that thing just yeah? So moving and so haunting.
- 59:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and heartbreaking and just I mean the way it ends.
- 59:23Speaker 3: Just listener, if you haven't seen the Paul Rubins documentary,
- 59:26Speaker 3: what are you watching to be adopted? Well, of course,
- 59:31Speaker 3: but after that.
- 59:34Speaker 5: But also like it's really special because it's sad, of course,
- 59:39Speaker 5: and they shot it when he was still alive, and
- 59:41Speaker 5: now he's not alive, and that he kept his sickness
- 59:47Speaker 5: his almost a secret was like so heartbreaking. Yes, but
- 59:50Speaker 5: I when I found most heartbreaking about it was to
- 59:53Speaker 5: see that he and I felt this when he was
- 59:56Speaker 5: on your podcast.
- 59:58Speaker 4: He's still so, he was still so mercurial and hambish.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: And oh it's so he's so funny and such just
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: like a pain, you know what I mean, in like
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: a perfect way.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: Yes, this like little little gnat that you can't possibly control.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: And there he is being brilliant. You see it in
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: his eyes. There's that that genius is still still there.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: It's like the part of pee Wee that like the
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: rude pee wee, Like, oh it's incredible.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: Okay, well, I think we should play a game or two.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: I need a number between one and ten from you.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: Eight.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: Okay, First, I'd like you to promote, recommend, do whatever
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: you want.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: Well, Season four Shrinking is being shot right now. The
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: first three seasons are available. I recently narrated an audio
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: book that I'm very proud of, called Take Me with
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: You by the great Stephen Rowley. It's a great book.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: Read it or listen to me read it. I will
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: be leaving from here to go to London for a
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: few weeks where I have the great fortune of reprising
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: the role of Amy's Amy Amy Mary's.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Oh Amy, that's the two le version.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: Oh Amy, Oh my god, about who who's that about?
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: That's a long lost Amy Lincoln. You never hear about
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: Amy Amy Lincoln.
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: Oh my god, that's good Lincoln's brother's wife.
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: Oh Mary, uh in o Mary, the role of o
- 1:01:42Speaker 5: Mary's teacher. I get to reprise that for two weeks
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: with the Great Cola Scola, and we're going to be
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: filming it for HBO, which is like just like so dreamy,
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: and it's a crazy honor to have been asked out
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: of all of the amazing actors who have played Mary's teacher.
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: So I'll be heading to do that.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: That's so, I mean, the HBO part is so exciting
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: the amount of attempts I've tried to boot like the
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: show because I want to watch it again. Oh there's
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: a whole I can't find it anywhere on live Tim
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: like interesting because I'm not in New York, I can't
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: see every version of the show. It's like, I just
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: want to see it again. Thank god it's going to
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: be I haven't seen it since I don't know, February
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: of twenty.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm still doing it.
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, it's I'm so excited. I'm honored. And I
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: still can't really believe it. I can't believe. I can't
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: believe Shrinking is letting me go do it. I can't
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: believe they wanted me. And I can't believe I get
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: to be part of memorializing it forever like there, it
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: will be the archive forever for anyone Tony any time.
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: And and I think about, I mean, I think about
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: how important watching theater on screens was for me before
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: I had access to the theater. And I think about
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: like the kids all of the country that are going
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: to see this and see something that that is possible
- 1:03:04Speaker 5: for them. And so that's that's pretty awesome and pretty exciting.
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: Do you like to watch bootlegs?
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: This is like I'm not you know, I'm not a
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: huge theater person. I wasn't really I had really not
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: experienced any theater until Jim and I started dating, but
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: O Mary was the first thing where I was like,
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: I just love it so much, I want to just
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: have a copy of it. And Jim introduced me to
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: the whole world of uh, slime tutorials. Are you familiar?
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: Okay, so this is what I was gonna ask, because
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: there's a is it called slime tutorial?
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: That's yeah, you like on YouTube. You type in like
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: the name of the show and Broadway. I'm sorry, but
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: it's happening you and then you type in slime tutorial.
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: And there will frequently be bootlegs. But Oh Mary has
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: done a very good job of that not.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: Happened keeping it out.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: So that's good I mean for.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: Oh Mary, not good for me the home viewer. Good
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: for a home box office HBO.
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: I feel like, like a bootleg of a show that's
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: no longer available, is I feel like, ethically I'm okay
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: with watching a bootleg of Oh, I don't know, say,
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: when Bernadette Peters.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: Was in Hello Dolly. Preservation and that's that's preservation. That's
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: like the ancient texts.
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: Yes, because you know, Lincoln Center Library makes archival recordings
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: of a lot of shows right that aren't released, that
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: are not released, but you can go to the library
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: and plead your case to watch it, which is basically
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: just like I'm anationing for it, and I you know,
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: you can see sort of I'm working on it. I'm
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: working on it in a scene class or I'm under
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: saper and they'll let you watch it, but you have
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: to sit there and watch it. So you know, that's
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: probably they probably have Omry there. Okay, they probably have
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: Bette Midler and Hello Dolly there, But Bernadette Peters and
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: Hello Dolly isn't at the Lincoln Center Archives. So where
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: else will I get that? Yes, I saw it twice
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: when she did it, But what if I need.
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: To watch it?
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Guess Mary will need to for my heart.
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: But I did not know this slime tutorial and we
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: might be in trouble for even saying it with the
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: bootleg community.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: But I think I've talked about it on this podcast before.
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: Okay, fine, then then it's on you.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: I'll be honest. I think it's a I think it's
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: kind of failing it. It's failed me, So what can
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: you say?
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: Well, I wonder if there's a bigger crackdown on shows
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: that are still running. Oh, probably because they don't. They
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: want to like drive people to right. So I don't know,
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: and who knows when they'll release this? Oh, Mary, you
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: know they released Hamilton the Pro Shot as they call
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: it Hamilton while the show's still running.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: So it's still running, right, and it doesn't seem to
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: have hurt.
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: I think it feels like a just an ad for
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: the to go see the show.
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: Basically, yeah, go see another group of people. Do it right,
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: and here's this group, and go see another group of people.

- 1:07:19Speaker 5: time of day and depending on how our how our
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: blinds are, people can see into our apartment and we
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: can see people walk by, which we kind of like,
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: I mean, we're not weird exhibition, it's like that.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: But like it's kind of fun.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: It's people watching it.

- 1:08:43Speaker 5: at the same time, and we shared a backstage and
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: she had seen the other one. But I walked back
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: and she was there, and I was like, I stopped
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: in my tracks.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: She was fabulous. God, we need a list of just
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: everyone you have met, your Forrest Gump.

- 1:09:59Speaker 5: You know, there would have been a time when I
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: absolutely would have provided Sylvester Stallone. But in this political climate,
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: given then he is a supporter, I just think politically
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: we don't align anymore, even though I love Cliffhanger.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: Okay, not invited, Sporty spice.

- 1:11:29Speaker 3: platform shoes, you've got to be at least open to
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: the idea of people being gay.
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: You know what, Yes, I think so too. I think
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: he trademarked all that makeup.

- 1:11:45Speaker 5: trademarked all that makeup.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: Oh shrewd right?
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: Interesting?
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: Okay, Forrest Whittaker.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: Yes, I think that would be fun.
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: I think he would be a secretly good time.

- 1:12:39Speaker 4: Is that gonna make me want to make that a goal? Change?
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: To make you love Garth Brooks in a new way?
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: Is I got friends in low places? Garth Brooks. I
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: think so, yeah, thunder Road, thunder Road. What about that

- 1:12:55Speaker 4: football game and he sees that lady that he knew
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: and now he knows he's with the right woman after
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: all these years. Gosh, it gets me every married stalker. Okay,

- 1:13:23Speaker 3: No. Kate Winslet. Oh absolutely, she's so good, divine Jackie
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: got one more? Just Jackie Chan. Nothing, Okay, this is
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: interesting coming up here. We were just talking about this guy.
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: And I'm sure.
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith in the Karate Kid together.
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: I'm not the person to ask Karate Kid reboot.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: That's not why this list. That's not why they're both
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: on the list, because they would have that to talk about.
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: The party would already be a buzz about Karate Kid.
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: That's all anybody ever talks about, and Glenn.
- 1:13:57Speaker 5: Close would just not stop talking about Karate Kid all night.
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: Forest Whitaker's like, can we at least talk about the
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: last king in Scotland. She's like no, no, we have
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: to keep talking about.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: I should have booked it. Okay, Now this one's interesting
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: because we were talking about him earlier and he's a must.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: Eric Adams Path, George R. R. Martin Pastum, Kathy Griffin.
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: If I was starting this list, I would say yes, absolutely,
- 1:14:28Speaker 5: but given that I have one slot left.
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: Fairytas right now, I don't know if she's right. Candace Owens,
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: who this is?
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that's uh wait no.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: Kind of this horrible conservative person.
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: Yes, no, definitely not. I know you're talking about. Definitely not.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: I like that person. I think kind of always losing
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: her mind.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: King, Charles King, Charles, well, that's kind of fun. No.
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: Jessica Seinfeld Jerry Seinfeld's wife.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: I'm gonna pass.
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: Daniel Craig hmm, the from Casino Royale.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: Oh that's right. Well the way things come together.
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: But but you know they don't use the herbal and
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: for that reason, I'm going the same note to Daniel.
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: That's why that was a box office bomb. Randy Jackson
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Randy Jackson from from American ISLEL.
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: Yes, it's a note for me dog, Scott Bayo, that's
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: a deaf note. No thanks, Scott got.
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: Bayo blocked me on Twitter very early on. Really, I mean,
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: I obviously was thrilled about it. I don't know what
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: tweet set him off. I'd love to Scott reach out.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: That would be so funny to like pinpoint, which.
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: I would love to know what really just ruined his day?
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: Paula Dean Oh.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: H no, Laura Dern oh okay, Yes, that's a good one.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: That's a great one.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a that's a good way.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: Can we read it? Absolutely?
- 1:15:59Speaker 8: We've got Paul Hollywood, Francis McDermott, Angela Bassett, Glenn Close,
- 1:16:04Speaker 8: George Ta, Kai Scary Spice, Forrest Whittaker, Garth Brooks, Kate Winslet,

- 1:16:13Speaker 3: What a party?
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: What a great that's a great lists and you really
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: put some thought into it, which I appreciate.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: What party is? What party would that even be?
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: It would be Hollywood Bowl. We'd be going to the Hollywood.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: We have a box at the we get two.
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: Boxes next to each other, and it would be for
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: the Boston Pops.
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: No, the the Boston Pops in the LA Yeah, the
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: other Boston Pops. I was seeing John Williams in the
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: Boston Pops.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: But it's the La Phil.
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: Yeah, really Phil, that's who.
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: That's who has the residency at the Bowl, right, Yes,
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: that's what we'd be there for, and we'd we'd get
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: fried Chick.
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: Lovely evening delicious. Well, I think that game took long
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: enough that we're not even going to play another game. Okay,
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: fair enough, But we'll answer a listener question. Will you
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: help me answer a question?
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: I would be delighted people are.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: Writing into I said no gifts at gmail dot com.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: Most of my listeners have no coping skills and they're
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: just begging a podcast for answers. So, Deer Bridger and
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: Lovely Guest, I have a gift conundrum. I'd love your
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: help with. My daughter is nearly two, and it's around
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: this time that all her friends are also having birthdays.
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: She is with all kinds of the same age at
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: her daycare and from our mommy and me classes. Okay,
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: get we get invites to all the birthday parties, and
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: I like going because there's nothing better than a party
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: that goes from nine am to noon. Okay. My daughter
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: also gets extra time with her friends, which is adorable. Okay, whatever,
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: what's the problem anyway? Do I have to get all
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: these kids gifts. I usually just bring them pastries or cookies.
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: Since I'm a baker at Proof in Atwater Village. Have
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: you been to Proof No delicious bakery h with an
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: interesting I think a very unionized bakery anyway, so that's
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: an easy lift. But they always seem like kind of
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: a cop out when I see a table full of
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: beautifully wrapped gifts the party, What do I do? There
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: are like a thousand kids and I'm not made of cash.
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: With love Lauren also, ps, please come to prove It
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: would be a pleasure to hear your thoughts on the bakes. Okay,
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: well you'll see me around, Lauren. I'm going to demand
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: the best.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: It could be that, Okay.
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: So basically Lauren's problem or Lauren whatever, la U r
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: e N don't It's not my problem. The daughters to
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: all of the rich la children are having these fabulous
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: parties and demanding gifts. Parents are expecting gifts. Lauren is
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: working at one of our best bakeries and bringing baked
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: goods and she feels bad about it.
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: Well, gosh, I don't think she should feel bad about
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: that at all.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: Should she be bringing expensive gifts to every toddler in
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: the Inland Empire.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: I don't think so. I don't think.
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: I think what she is doing is far more interesting
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: and original than some high dollar trinket that the kid
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: will play with for a minute.
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: Right, and it's is it? Is she bringing enough for
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: the whole class? Like? Is it? Like?
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:19:04Speaker 4: Is he bringing like a plate of cookies that she
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: baked at her fabulous at water. I think, I think.
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: I think she's honestly, I think she's exactly right.
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: Well, you disagree.
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: I feel like Lauren's making a huge mistake here. She's
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: got these, all of these networking opportunities. She should be
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: looking at this as a networking opportunity, and she needs
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: to show up her best. She's got a she should
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: be bringing a Look, everybody's in debt. Why can't Lauren
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: be for giving away gifts? To Lauren, you're doing the
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: wrong thing. Keep the bakery. You're being a cheap skate.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: You should show up with a gift that's minimum one
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: hundred dollars and that's minimum. People are talking about her,
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: They're saying, I'm sure the cookies are good, but I
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: could have gotten bought these myself, you know. Well, God,
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: I feel like she's flopped. I'm sure her two year
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: olds are so embarrassed. Mom, you just stay in the car.
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: So you said you're saying gifts. You say gifts, I
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: said gifts.
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: I said gifts for two year olds. I think it's
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: important that a two year old get an expensive gift. Yes, gifts, Yeah, okay.
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: But you know, as someone who has a two year
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: old on TV, I think that the I think the cookies,
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: cookies and pastries, you know, like a bear claw, I
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: think they would be welcomed and and and what what
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: what a unique and.
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: You made this? How we thank you, Lauren. The kids Lauren,
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: missus one have made this?
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: Lauren, missus Lauren she made these.
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: These are these are fresh?
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: Everyone try, but of course it is la So I
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: don't know, those kids might all be like, oh.
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: Boy, and all of these things. You've got to consider.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: I've started bringing I'm trying to make it a goal
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: of baking cookies to take to parties instead of just
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: grabbing some boring drink. To really people go crazy. You
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: bring a nice, well made cookie to a party, you're
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: the talk of the town. Wow's having a great time
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: with them.
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: How often have you brought a bottle of wine and
- 1:21:20Speaker 5: you it just gets put away and as you leave, you're.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: Like, there it is there, should just grab it. The
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: next party you take cookies, you know, it's let's be honest,
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: I'm allowed, Laurence. What kind of cookies do you make?
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: Chocolate chip, sea.
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: Salt, sea salt, sometimes with walnuts. I mean, they're phenomenal
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: and people love them. But only I can do that.
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: Lauren's stealing my thing. I think that's ultimately my problem.
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: They're phenomenal.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: My cooking.
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: Do you see these Instagram videos where people are like,
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: all you need is is like peanut butter and one
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: one cocoa, one scoop of cocoa powder and a wish
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: and it's a brownie and it's like this is just protein.
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: And I'm like, that looks like a brownie and they
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: say it tastes like a brownie. How is that protein?
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: This was happening for a while that it was really
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: recommending the same thing, but essentially everything made out of eggs.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: It was like, yeah, fifteen eggs and a piece of
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: chocolate and you have this is a cake. It's like no,
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: it's then you get in the you would look at
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: the comments and the people were just burning them down.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: People be like, that's chocolate scrambled eggs. I loved it
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: so much. But there's a particular group of I think
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: the essentially scammers telling people that that works. That doesn't work.
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: It's gotta be it's gotta be false.
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: I mean, peanut butter and cocoa, I could imagine. I mean,
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: you probably joke, but when it's like eggs and a
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: piece of chocolate, it's like, that's simply not.
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: Do you ever cook? Do you use an air fryer?
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: I am no cook, but I can use an air
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: fryer sure, and it is at it's magic.
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: What are you making in there?
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: I make? I've made steaks.
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: Wow, I've made Last night I had a steak with
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: Brussels sprouts all made out of the in the air fryer. Wow, terrific.
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: I've made eggs.
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: All you did? They have?
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: They have these like these like these little filters that
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: you can put in the air fryer. And I've made eggs,
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: like you just cracked the egg in there, and.
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: What it's like a sunny side up or what is it?
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: It comes out sunny side up?
- 1:23:30Speaker 5: I guess you like spray with a little bit of
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: you know, avocado oil or whatever. You puts some whatever
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: you want on a salt, some cheese maybe, and it
- 1:23:37Speaker 5: comes out perfect. It's like it's it's like it's weird,
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: but it is like in Back to the Future Part two,
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: the pizza, which she puts the tiny pizza in and
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: five seconds later it's it feels like that, Wow, you
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: put it in, you can't see what's happening in there,
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: and then you pull it out and the egg is cooked.
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: The egg is the easiest possible to cook. And this
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: is the one thing I can cook.
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: I know, I can't cook it on.
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: A regular head Brussels sprout.
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: It's fantastic and it's and I'm just like it's for me.
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: It's the cleanup, like it's the it's the mess I'm
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: going to make on the stove, and then it's the
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: mess of clean cleaning it all up.
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: But with the airfare, it is so and I have
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: a little one, so it's very simple.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: It might be time for me to just get into it.
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: I had to say we got one because in New York,
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: our this is the thing that happens when you live
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: in an old building in New York. We didn't have
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: gas for two years. WHOA, I had no idea this
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: was even something that could happen to you.
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: But it just stopped.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: There was a leak in the gas line.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: Summer cooking gas we had, we had heat, and we
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: had hot water, but we didn't have cooking gas for.
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: Two How do they justify that?
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: I mean.
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: They just they say tough shit, They say sorry, and
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: it's like and you know a lot of people I said,
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: and they're like, well, don't pay your rent, Like.
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: Well, it's not a rental, it's a co op. So
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: like you know, co op.
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: Is Yeah, you're really committed.
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: It's like, who do you complain to? It's it's me.
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: Yeah, we all are part of the team.
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: We all own this together. This is our problem. Yeah,
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: so we get an air fier. It's back now. The
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: gas is back now, but we still use.
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: The airfier because it was such a nice solution.
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: Wow, Okay, well it's probably time I need to cook
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: something for myself on occasion.
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: Ridiculous.
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: And when you're alone, like you know, that's another thing,
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: Like I'm alone out here because Ryan's in New York.
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: It's really easy to make something very quickly for myself.
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: Right, That's how I justify going out every single night
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: where I'm like, well I'm not going to make a
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: whole meal.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: You got Do you go to restaurants alone?
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: Yeah? I love it. I go to movies alone.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: I love going to the movies alone.
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: I think people should only go to the movies alone.
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: Well because because regardless, if you go to a movie
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: with another and that person's experience becomes your experience like everything.
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: Yes, and I love going the moves alone, but going
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: to restaurants alone depending on where I am. But I
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: also like, I don't want people to recognize me and
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: be like, why does that guy from TV have no friends?
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: That's what I'm afraid of.
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: Or you just got to own it. Yeah, No, I
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: like doing I like to go and read while I'm eating.
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: Well that's cute.
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: There's just something just very relaxing about it too.
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: I like like sitting at a counter, like at a diner.
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: I wish we had a closer. I go to Clark
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: Street Diner constantly. Oh yeah, I just know everyone there.
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: So I'm in a booth. I'm just the king of
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: the castle.
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: Yeah, but all right, good to know about this because
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: I think about going to restaurants alone.
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: You should do it. Try it. It feels like you're
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: almost like on a little business trip. That's kind of
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: how I feel like I'm expensing this meal. I'm expensing
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: simply every single meal of my life.
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: Had a long day of meetings. I'm going to go
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: back to the Marriotte after this. But in the meantime,
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: I do love a hotel bar.
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: Interesting. I like going to a hotel bar and I
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: think romantic about that.
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: And I love room service.
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: I don't think I've ever gotten room service. No, never.
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: Oh it's fabulous. There's something they bring a tray, there's
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: a tiny tabasco, there's like your personal Oh it's great.
- 1:27:25Speaker 4: And then when you're done, you just put it in.
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: The hall that I like. I like the idea of
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: leaving trash in a hotel hallway. Oh, it's something very
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: appealing about that. I should give it a shot sometime. No,
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: I did it actually in Japan. We did it, and
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: it did feel incredible. What was the cuisine cheeseburgers?
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: No?
- 1:27:44Speaker 3: Really, yes, And it felt I mean it was just
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: like it felt amazing.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: It comes in a yeah, like a tray with the top.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: Maybe I need to get into it more often.
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: It's great.
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: I love and a breakfast. Oh there's something about like
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: a big.
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: Old, very expensive breakfast from from a hotel. It's also like, wow,
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: is this so expensive?
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: Oh that's I mean, that's what that's holding me back
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: every time? Yes, ruin an evening for Yes.
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: If I'm if I'm on someone else, if i'm if
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: I'm working forgets, I will I will opt to stay
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: in just to spend their money.
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: I will sink the company. Well, I've got my beautiful painting.
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: I'm so happy about it.
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: I'm so glad you could be here. Thank you so
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: such a joy.
