Speaker 4: There are some new poll numbers out and they're not

Speaker 4: and it's probably not going to impact his standing in
• 2:14
Speaker 4: West Virginia at all. Well, because he's He's Donald Trump
• 2:17
Speaker 4: and this is West Virginia. I'll get into that more
• 2:19
Speaker 4: with Danny. Plus, I'm gonna do a little bit of bragging.
• 2:22
Speaker 4: We're gonna have the right to do that. It was

• 2:47
Speaker 4: Star of newspapers, of Twitter or x or anything. Steven
• 2:54
Speaker 4: Allen Adams, how you doing, buddy?
• 2:55
Speaker 6: Hey, I've got two West Virginia Broadcasters Associations Awards, and
• 2:59
Speaker 6: by just a little really the first awards I had
• 3:02
Speaker 6: i'd ever won for Best about News Coverage when I
• 3:04
Speaker 6: worked for Results Radio in Parkersburg in the mid two thousands.
• 3:07
Speaker 4: So well, guess what, you have two more than I do,
• 3:10
Speaker 4: if on a personal level anyway, now most the stations do.
• 3:13
Speaker 4: But yeah, you get two more than I do. So
• 3:14
Speaker 4: you got that gear.
• 3:15
Speaker 7: You're going to get there.
• 3:16
Speaker 6: Your your young talent and keep reaching and you'll you'll
• 3:20
  Speaker 6: you'll accomplish.
• 3:20
Speaker 4: Your just keep working, you know, the first thirty seven
• 3:23
Speaker 4: years or the hardest is what they say. I want
• 3:27
Speaker 4: to pick your brain on a couple of things. There's
• 3:31
  Speaker 4: I think there's a developing story and we're going to
• 3:33
Speaker 4: get into this more with Delegate Daniel Lenville on Metro
• 3:37
Speaker 4: News Midday. And I know TJ and Wilson are going
• 3:40
Speaker 4: to cover this as well, and has to do with
• 3:41
Speaker 4: this the green buses in South Charleston, and I'll get
• 3:45
Speaker 4: into that a little bit later on. But I want
• 3:47
Speaker 4: to ask you and Danny and I are going to
• 3:49
Speaker 4: talk about this. Looking at some numbers, and I'm not
• 3:53
Speaker 4: normally that big of a number guy, but this one
• 3:55
Speaker 4: actually kind of stuck out to me. There are some
• 3:57
Speaker 4: new polling information out for maybe see news and the
• 4:01
Speaker 4: Washington Posts and episodes, and we'll get in that a
• 4:03
Speaker 4: little bit later on. Donald Trump steven has the lowest
• 4:07
Speaker 4: approval rating for the first one hundred days of any
• 4:11
Speaker 4: presidency in eighty years. Oh boy, Does any of that
• 4:15
Speaker 4: matter to West Virginia.
• 4:18
Speaker 6: Not yet, but I think it will. I would love
• 4:21
Speaker 6: to see some state level data on that soon, because
• 4:24
Speaker 6: I mean, we're still not really feeling the effect of
• 4:28
Speaker 6: some of this tariff stuff right now. I think we've
• 4:31
Speaker 6: seen some reporting over the weekend and some people, including Groy,
• 4:36
Speaker 6: a former economic advisor to President Trump, point out the
• 4:39
Speaker 6: fact that in Seattle to Seattle Port there they don't
• 4:44
Speaker 6: have any other container ships coming for at least a
• 4:47
Speaker 6: hot minute, and that's going to begin to effect at
• 4:50
Speaker 6: some point over the next couple weeks. Shelves, I mean,
• 4:54
Speaker 6: things that you buy on your shelf are going to
• 4:55
Speaker 6: become more scarce. Is going to be as bad as say,
• 4:58
Speaker 6: during COVID. I don't know, not an expert on that
• 5:00
Speaker 6: sort of stuff, but I think you'll see that trickle
• 5:04
Speaker 6: down into the economy in some ways. So I think
• 5:07
Speaker 6: when people start to feel the effects, and yeah, they've
• 5:10
Speaker 6: been able to back off some of those tariffs or
• 5:12
Speaker 6: do some exceptions that sort of thing, but uh, it
• 5:16
Speaker 6: takes a little while for the economy to catch up.
• 5:19
Speaker 6: And I think you're going to start to see the
• 5:21
Speaker 6: effects of some of the decisions that were made a
• 5:23
Speaker 6: couple of weeks ago that were great. They were pulled back,
• 5:26
Speaker 6: but the effects of that haven't really been felt yet.
• 5:29
Speaker 6: I think we're about to feel those And when that happens,
• 5:32
Speaker 6: I think West Virginians will really have some thoughts on
• 5:36
Speaker 6: that and want to blame somebody. And there's no one
• 5:38
Speaker 6: really to blame other than President Trump for that.
• 5:41
Speaker 4: Well, and I talked to a lot of my friends
• 5:44
Speaker 4: in the coal industry on a regular basis, and of course,
• 5:46
Speaker 4: I mean, you know Donald Trump, you know his love
• 5:49
Speaker 4: affair with coal and there and in turn the coal
• 5:52
Speaker 4: mining industry's love affair with Donald Trump. There are there's
• 5:56
Speaker 4: some opt Well let me say, how can I put this.
• 6:01
Speaker 4: People are cautious right now in the coal industry about
• 6:04
Speaker 4: what some of these tariffs and what other things are
• 6:06
Speaker 4: going to mean to And this is an industry again
• 6:08
Speaker 4: that bent over backwards, you know, for Donald Trump, and
• 6:14
Speaker 4: there will have a lot of apprehension right now in
• 6:16
Speaker 4: the coal industry. But if they're not ready to they're
• 6:18
Speaker 4: not going to pull support or anything like that.
• 6:20
  Speaker 5: Uh.
• 6:21
Speaker 4: But and there's also a lot of people with the
• 6:22
Speaker 4: Niosh situation up in Morgantown that does a lot of
• 6:24
Speaker 4: research when it comes to black lung and things like that.
• 6:27
Speaker 4: Some people that are certainly concerned there. All right, So
• 6:31
Speaker 4: let's get to this green this green bus situation again.
• 6:34
Speaker 4: It's going to be covered a lot. This is gonna
• 6:36
Speaker 4: be a big story, I think in the news Brad
• 6:38
Speaker 4: mcelheney writes about it, and again Wilson Meadows are going
• 6:42
Speaker 4: to cover it on talk line Amanda and not going
• 6:44
Speaker 4: to cover and I met your news midday give us
• 6:46
Speaker 4: the overview of this story. I mean, as Jeff said,
• 6:49
Speaker 4: there's some speed limits put on these buses.
• 6:52
Speaker 6: Well, yeah, I mean, great story by Brad macklhenney, my
• 6:55
Speaker 6: friend and colleague, and I've been hearing these rumors for
• 6:59
Speaker 6: a little while my self too, that particularly in the
• 7:02
Speaker 6: wake of some of these halts on funding, particularly some
• 7:07
Speaker 6: of the green energy funding and grants and loans and
• 7:10
Speaker 6: things of that nature, that that was going to begin
• 7:13
Speaker 6: and has already affected green power in South Charleston. I
• 7:17
Speaker 6: think it's around this time last year. I actually rode
• 7:20
Speaker 6: on one of their newer electric buses that was being
• 7:23
Speaker 6: driven by US Senator Shelley Moore Capito at that time,
• 7:27
Speaker 6: and things were looking up for them. I mean they
• 7:30
Speaker 6: you know, things were pumping at their manufacturing facility, which
• 7:33
Speaker 6: is a really neat place. But pretty much as soon
• 7:37
Speaker 6: as those cuts and those halts in federal funding started happening,
• 7:41
Speaker 6: I was told by reliable sources that Green Power probably
• 7:48
Speaker 6: might not last halfway through this year because they were
• 7:52
Speaker 6: so reliant on some of that federal money. And that
• 7:57
Speaker 6: is sort of the problem with a lot of those
• 7:58
Speaker 6: solar projects like that. We've seen it with other examples,
• 8:01
Speaker 6: like they're any Obama administration in Cylindra as a good
• 8:04
Speaker 6: example of that that've relied on federal money. But they
• 8:07
Speaker 6: that dried up and then they went under. A lot
• 8:10
Speaker 6: of counties has Brad reported on or awaiting these buses.
• 8:14
Speaker 6: They don't get paid until they deliver the buses, so
• 8:19
Speaker 6: they are reliant on that federal funding to kind of
• 8:23
Speaker 6: get them through to build the buses, get them delivered,
• 8:27
Speaker 6: then they get the money from the state on that
• 8:29
Speaker 6: part of it. And when you've got an interruption in that, well, yeah,
• 8:34
Speaker 6: you got some real problems right there, and that's going
• 8:36
Speaker 6: to put them in a situation due to their memorandums
• 8:38
Speaker 6: of understanding where they might have to give back state
• 8:41
Speaker 6: money that was given to them to set up you know,
• 8:44
Speaker 6: back around twenty two.
• 8:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so this is it's gonna be a big story.
• 8:50
  Speaker 4: To Steven. I think somebody's got a call. I got
• 8:52
Speaker 4: a call for you. You're good with that, Yeah, let's
• 8:53
Speaker 4: do it, all right, Ryan, go ahead, and you're on
• 8:56
Speaker 4: the air with Steven Adams. Go ahead.
• 9:00
Speaker 8: Hello, Well I'm Bob.
• 9:02
Speaker 4: Okay, you're on the air with Steven Allen Adams and
• 9:04
Speaker 4: Dave go ahow Bob.
• 9:05
Speaker 8: Yeah, you guys had all been I think you owned
• 9:09
Speaker 8: several newspapers, sure, and I think most recently you bought
• 9:15
Speaker 8: the Dominion Post in Morningtown.
• 9:17
  Speaker 4: Correct.
• 9:18
Speaker 8: I wonder if there's any chance you guys would be
• 9:22
Speaker 8: interested in buying the Charleston Gazette and turning it into
• 9:26
Speaker 8: a decent newspaper. And I'll listen, all right, all.
• 9:30
Speaker 4: Right, Bob, Well, get your check book handy over there.
• 9:34
Speaker 6: Well, funny you should ask that we did try to
• 9:37
Speaker 6: buy the Charleston Gazette mail and we were outbid by
• 9:41
Speaker 6: a group that included Doug Reynolds and Doug scaff control
• 9:47
Speaker 6: HD Media. So we got outbidd in that war, and
• 9:51
Speaker 6: instead of trying to throw down more money to buy it,
• 9:54
Speaker 6: they decided to hire me instead, uh, to be a
• 9:58
Speaker 6: one man newspaper every state government for our papers down there.
• 10:02
Speaker 6: I'm sure that if down the road, if the SCAF,
• 10:04
Speaker 6: if scaff and Reynolds would want to sell it, I
• 10:06
Speaker 6: think my people would probably be interested in it. But
• 10:09
Speaker 6: so far, I don't think there's any interest in that
• 10:12
Speaker 6: for for the moment.
• 10:13
Speaker 4: We're negotiating a newspaper sale deals mount here.
• 10:16
Speaker 7: I mean, yeah, my employers are gonna love that.
• 10:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, So yeah, you're gonna go up and say, oh,
• 10:21
Speaker 4: by the way, I bought a paper today. I just
• 10:23
Speaker 4: let you know. Here's here's my here's my my expense report.
• 10:27
Speaker 4: So you and I were talking before the show. The
• 10:29
Speaker 4: governor is going to be out on the road and
• 10:34
Speaker 4: he I think you said you had an interview set
• 10:36
Speaker 4: up with him where you're going to at some point.
• 10:37
Speaker 4: We've had him on all of our shows as well.
• 10:40
Speaker 4: What did you what are you hearing about some bills
• 10:43
  Speaker 4: he made veto.
• 10:44
Speaker 6: Well, he had a statement last night on X talking
• 10:48
Speaker 6: about there about forty bills left that he has yet
• 10:51
Speaker 6: to either sign veto or let go into law on
• 10:54
Speaker 6: their own. Now, when the session ends, he's got fifteen
• 10:57
Speaker 6: days to work with those bills. So you can either
• 11:00
Speaker 6: sign it, veto it, or he can let it become
• 11:03
Speaker 6: all without his signature. That's the whole possibility too. So
• 11:05
Speaker 6: we're talking about forty bills, and he says for the future,
• 11:08
Speaker 6: folks should know that if your bill costs tax payers
• 11:10
Speaker 6: money and you haven't provided an offset for your proposed program,
• 11:13
Speaker 6: the odds of your initiative getting improved will be slim unquote.
• 11:16
Speaker 6: So I'm just trying to extrapolate from that statement that
• 11:21
Speaker 6: out of the forty bills that are remaining for him
• 11:23
Speaker 6: to sign, I think we're going to probably begin to
• 11:25
Speaker 6: see some vetos. Now we know he's done one veto
• 11:28
Speaker 6: of a rules bundle for election related stuff that got
• 11:31
  Speaker 6: fixed during session.
• 11:32
Speaker 7: That was not a big deal.
• 11:33
Speaker 6: He's done some line on in veto stuff in regards
• 11:36
Speaker 6: to the budget, so we've seen that, but we haven't
• 11:39
Speaker 6: really just seen just straight up vetos of bills. He's
• 11:41
Speaker 6: pretty much signed everything he's gotten so far, so this
• 11:44
Speaker 6: will be interesting to see what doesn't make it from
• 11:47
  Speaker 6: his desk.
• 11:48
Speaker 4: Now you tell me you're going to Washington. I think
• 11:50
Speaker 4: mister Adams goes to Washington.
• 11:52
Speaker 6: Yes, So some of these questions, particularly about tariffs and
• 11:56
Speaker 6: their effects, particularly coal industry, I'll get a chance to
• 11:59
Speaker 6: kind of talk to our reper citation about that. So
• 12:01
Speaker 6: on Thursday, I'll be in Washington, DC on Capitol Hill
• 12:04
Speaker 6: and I'll be talking with US Senator Shelley Moore, Capital
• 12:08
Speaker 6: Representative more Riley Moore and working out interview times right
• 12:13
Speaker 6: now for Senator Jim Justice and for Congress from and
• 12:16
  Speaker 6: Carol Miller.
• 12:17
Speaker 7: So still got to get those lockdown.
• 12:18
Speaker 6: But I do this every year and gives me really
• 12:22
Speaker 6: good insight just being up there, especially while they're right now.
• 12:25
Speaker 6: They're trying to negotiate the budget right now and this
• 12:27
Speaker 6: budget reconciliation process, which begins again this week. They've already
• 12:32
Speaker 6: got a framework in place, so now we'll start to
• 12:34
Speaker 6: figure out what the meat of the thing is. So
• 12:36
Speaker 6: I'll be up there to talk to some of our
• 12:37
  Speaker 6: representatives about.
• 12:38
Speaker 4: That before you get there. What are you working on
• 12:41
Speaker 4: over the next couple days.
• 12:43
Speaker 6: Gonna be looking into more federal funding issues. Some letters
• 12:47
Speaker 6: have went out in regards to the Federal Department of
• 12:49
Speaker 6: transportation to the state, and I think others in regards
• 12:53
Speaker 6: to just making sure everyone gets the DEI out of
• 12:57
Speaker 6: their grant to application and cooperate with ICE and things
• 13:02
Speaker 6: of that nature. So I'm gonna be talking with some
• 13:04
Speaker 6: Dot state DOOT people about that and public broadcasting. West
• 13:08
Speaker 6: Virginia Public Broadcasting took a big budget cut in the
• 13:12
Speaker 6: state budget, and it looks like they could also lose
• 13:15
Speaker 6: some federal funding too, depending on what happens nationally and
• 13:19
Speaker 6: what President Trump wants to do. So those things could
• 13:21
Speaker 6: really affect West Virginia Peller Broadcasting here in West Virginia.
• 13:24
Speaker 6: So I'm gonna talk to him about that this week.
• 13:25
Speaker 4: Well, there will be a lot of far right conservatives
• 13:28
Speaker 4: that'll be very happy about that.
• 13:30
Speaker 6: Well, I'm sure, but I don't think people realize, particularly
• 13:33
Speaker 6: in the rural I mean in the rural areas, just
• 13:36
Speaker 6: how important West Virginia Public Broadcasting is just to the
• 13:39
Speaker 6: diet of information people get.
• 13:41
Speaker 4: Steven Allen Adams Ogden newspapers or mind folks where they
• 13:45
Speaker 4: can see or read you, I should say.
• 13:48

• 13:59
Speaker 6: the Charleston that nail.
• 14:01
Speaker 7: I haven't been on their outside the Echo Chamber before.
• 14:03
Speaker 4: You you beat me to the punch. They're doing some
• 14:07
Speaker 4: pretty good things for that echo chamber. I mean it's
• 14:09
Speaker 4: a rick Lord does a great job with them. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 14:12
Speaker 6: I went on there several times during session and provided
• 14:14
Speaker 6: some legislative analysis. So yeah, it's a good time.

• 19:09
Speaker 13: you know, when I was working here and I would

Speaker 13: see Hoppy or see Talk today, A said, are you

• 19:16
  Speaker 13: good they are?
• 19:17
  Speaker 2: You know?
• 19:19
Speaker 12: I mean, like with Chris and Jeff.
• 19:22
Speaker 4: Chris, Jeff Kat Aaron got we got some young some youngsters.
• 19:25
Speaker 4: We call them the kids, and they and we don't
• 19:27
Speaker 4: mean that in a derogatory manner, but when you're you
• 19:30
Speaker 4: get to be my age. And Jeff Jenkins agent, he's
• 19:32
Speaker 4: a little older than I am, then you called everybody
• 19:34
Speaker 4: the kids. But there's some real up and comers and
• 19:38
Speaker 4: they're gonna do some great, great things. And I I
• 19:40
Speaker 4: just every morning, Danny and I've been here for five
• 19:43
Speaker 4: years in May. Every morning when I pull in the
• 19:45
Speaker 4: parking lot and I walk to the building and I
• 19:47
Speaker 4: see Chris Lawrence, Jeff Jenkins, Fred Purser, I think, holy crap,
• 19:50
Speaker 4: I work here. Yeah, I actually work with these people.
• 19:54
Speaker 4: How have you been, Mayor?
• 19:55
Speaker 13: I've been fine, and I you know, just uh, we're
• 20:00
Speaker 13: tired and playing with my dog.
• 20:01
Speaker 4: And how was Duke that his name?
• 20:03
  Speaker 12: Yeah he's fine.
• 20:04
Speaker 13: Yeah, I took him down Taylor Books this morning and
• 20:07
  Speaker 13: everybody went crazy.
• 20:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, we'll got dog isn't cavalier?
• 20:12
  Speaker 12: King Charles Spaniel.
• 20:14
Speaker 4: Okay, what is their temperament? Usually? I mean they pretty
• 20:16
  Speaker 4: pretty good.
• 20:17
Speaker 12: Dogs, dogs, laid back dog.
• 20:18
Speaker 13: Well, this one's a little more hyper than the other one.
• 20:21
Speaker 13: I had another King Charles, but.
• 20:24
  Speaker 12: This one.
• 20:26
  Speaker 13: He's fun. You know, he's he's fun. Shes gonn't be
• 20:29
Speaker 13: hard to train, but you know that's something you have
• 20:32
  Speaker 13: to put up.
• 20:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's that's part of it. I want to run
• 20:35
Speaker 4: some numbers by you, Danny, and then get your opinion
• 20:40
Speaker 4: on them. The first numbers are from a recent ABC
• 20:43
Speaker 4: News Washington Posts EPSOS poll. The first has to do
• 20:47
Speaker 4: with the job performance of President Donald Trump. According to
• 20:50
Speaker 4: the poll, and this is a poll done using all ages, races, parties,
• 20:55
Speaker 4: you know, across the board. Uh, fifty five percent of
• 20:58
Speaker 4: the people polled discip of the president's job performance, while
• 21:03
Speaker 4: thirty nine percent approve. Now, if you're keeping score at home,
• 21:08
Speaker 4: donald Trump has the lowest numbers of any president within
• 21:11
Speaker 4: the first one hundred days in eighty years. Does any
• 21:15
Speaker 4: of that matter in West Virginia though.
• 21:17
Speaker 13: Well, it matters because it'll matter to the country and
• 21:21
Speaker 13: West Virginia matters for the country, and the country matters
• 21:24
  Speaker 13: to West Virginia.
• 21:26
Speaker 12: If that trend continues.
• 21:28
Speaker 13: If it gets if it doesn't go back up, it
• 21:31
Speaker 13: can stay where it is or a good lower. But
• 21:33
Speaker 13: if it then he'll lose the midterms, He'll lose both
• 21:36
Speaker 13: thousands of Congress, and he'll be impeached again.
• 21:40
Speaker 12: That's what will happen.
• 21:41
Speaker 4: But I mean again in West Virginia. I mean, I
• 21:43
Speaker 4: got a text here. It says several years ago there
• 21:45
Speaker 4: was a report that said thirty five to thirty eight
• 21:47
Speaker 4: percent of Trump's base would stick with him no matter
• 21:50
Speaker 4: what Texas says. I believe that's still the case, and
• 21:53
Speaker 4: the numbers are higher in West Virginia.
• 21:54
Speaker 13: No, no question, No, this state's not't going anywhere. Well,
• 21:58
Speaker 13: this state it's going to be uh uh for Donald
• 22:01
  Speaker 13: Trump and uh.
• 22:03
Speaker 4: But but but I mean you say that, is there
• 22:07
Speaker 4: anything And I said this on the Afternoon Show not
• 22:10
Speaker 4: long ago, I said, is there anything if you're a
• 22:12
Speaker 4: Trump supporter? Is there anything that could make you not
• 22:14
Speaker 4: be a Trump supporter? And the and the answer I
• 22:16
Speaker 4: got was if he starts behaving like Biden, Well he
• 22:21
Speaker 4: did go to sleep, uh during during the Pope's funeral.
• 22:23
Speaker 4: So there's that he took.
• 22:25
Speaker 12: A take a live man or a dead woman.
• 22:30
Speaker 4: You and Rusty, You and Rusty tried to you know,
• 22:33
Speaker 4: he wanted to say that on the show. But I
• 22:34
  Speaker 4: mean again, I I just I don't see.
• 22:37
Speaker 12: No, it's not gonna happen.
• 22:38
Speaker 4: I don't see no matter what I mean. Even though
• 22:41
Speaker 4: there's and and Stephen and I talked about this earlier, Danny,
• 22:43
Speaker 4: there's a little bit of apprehension from folks in the
• 22:45
Speaker 4: coal industry right now about about you know, they're not
• 22:49
Speaker 4: a jumping ship, don't get me wrong. But but of
• 22:52
Speaker 4: course they are. Of course they are. And Niosh in Morgantown,
• 22:55
Speaker 4: I mean, this is this is a facility, a federal
• 22:58
Speaker 4: facility that did a lot of work with black lung
• 23:01
Speaker 4: and things of that nature. And you expect, you know,
• 23:04
Speaker 4: Cecil Roberts and UMWA to come out and speak out against,
• 23:07
Speaker 4: which they did. But others have also, even you know,
• 23:09
Speaker 4: some Republicans have, even I mean Shelley Moore, Capito, Riley Moore,
• 23:14
Speaker 4: all these people have come out and and said, mister President,
• 23:19
Speaker 4: slow your role. Here.
• 23:20
  Speaker 12: Here's here's the problem.
• 23:22
  Speaker 13: As I said, I'm not sure there's a cohesive strategy,
• 23:27
Speaker 13: a cohesive plan as to what to what to put
• 23:31
Speaker 13: tariffs on whatnot, or we just are we just throwing
• 23:34
Speaker 13: stuff against the wall. It just doesn't seem He does
• 23:37
Speaker 13: it and then he takes it back, and then he
• 23:39
Speaker 13: lowers it, and then he raises it, and it just
• 23:42
Speaker 13: doesn't seem like there's anything strategic going on here, and
• 23:48
Speaker 13: that worries me. Also, there is there's a guy named
• 23:54
Speaker 13: Jack Goldsmith. He is a Republican, fairly conservative. He was
• 24:01
Speaker 13: head of legal counsel in the w. Bush administration. He's
• 24:05
Speaker 13: a very young man. Then he is this he is
• 24:08
Speaker 13: the step son of Chucky O'Brien. Chucky O'Brien was the
• 24:14
Speaker 13: adopted son of James riddle hoffa okay, okay, And this
• 24:20
Speaker 13: guy wrote wrote a book called in Haff's Shadow about
• 24:23
  Speaker 13: his stepfather.
• 24:25
  Speaker 12: But he's also he's a brilliant guy.
• 24:27
Speaker 13: And he was on one of the New York Times,
• 24:31
Speaker 13: one of their audio fees, over an hour interview you
• 24:35
Speaker 13: can get on YouTube. And right now there's one hundred
• 24:38
Speaker 13: and fifty cases that the Trump Trump administration involved in
• 24:44
Speaker 13: and they're going to depend on the Supreme Court to
• 24:47
Speaker 13: solve these cases. Well, the problem with that is the
• 24:50
Speaker 13: Supreme Court only here's one hundred and fifty or at
• 24:52
Speaker 13: most two hundred cases of a year.
• 24:55
Speaker 12: What what how's that going to work?
• 24:58
  Speaker 4: And the weekend?
• 25:00
Speaker 12: Apparently what if they don't right?
• 25:03
  Speaker 2: Right?
• 25:04
Speaker 13: And he's talking about running for a third term and
• 25:10
Speaker 13: people say, we can't do that.
• 25:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, he can. You want to know how explain it?
• 25:16
  Speaker 12: He gets.
• 25:18
Speaker 13: Advance to run for president, he's a vice president, and
• 25:22
Speaker 13: then as Susan Vance gets sworn in on January twentieth,
• 25:26
Speaker 13: Dvance resigns and then Trump becomes president.
• 25:31
Speaker 4: But I mean, look at his age, Danny, you don't
• 25:33
Speaker 4: have to convince me.
• 25:35
Speaker 13: I mean, I never voted for the guy. I mean,
• 25:38
Speaker 13: but that's their strategy. And Steve Bannon kind of gave
• 25:42
Speaker 13: it away when he was on Real Time. Yeah, yeah,
• 25:46
Speaker 13: he said in the afternoon of January twentieth, twenty twenty eight,
• 25:51
  Speaker 13: he'll be president.
• 25:53
Speaker 4: But he'll be what one hundred and eight at that point,
• 25:56
  Speaker 4: I mean.
• 25:57
Speaker 12: He'll be eighty two.
• 25:58
Speaker 13: No, it's not going to happened because his brand didn't
• 26:01
Speaker 13: gonna hold up his unless something changes.
• 26:06
Speaker 4: Well, I mean, he said, and I heard a lot
• 26:07
Speaker 4: of talk about this on the Sunday shows, Danny, he said,
• 26:11
Speaker 4: day one, prices come down. Well, we're one hundred days
• 26:14
Speaker 4: in and prices aren't coming down. You know what, you
• 26:18
Speaker 4: should have never said that he was going to take
• 26:19
  Speaker 4: it down on day one. That's that's that's that's the
• 26:21
  Speaker 4: first problem.
• 26:22
Speaker 12: Politicians say anything to get a let Yeah, but if
• 26:27
Speaker 12: he the only thing's going to bring prices down to recession.
• 26:33
Speaker 4: Well, speaking of which, uh, the poll says fifty three
• 26:39
Speaker 4: percent of those surveys say the economy has gotten worse
• 26:42
Speaker 4: since Trump took office, and seventy two percent say they
• 26:45
Speaker 4: fear the Trump economic policies will cause a recession.
• 26:49
Speaker 13: Well, you know, Biden actually technically had a had a recession.
• 26:55
Speaker 13: He had two quarters of negative growth, and so Trump
• 26:59
Speaker 13: could have to you know, he could have from quarters
• 27:01
Speaker 13: to negative growth. That's what a recession is. But I
• 27:06
Speaker 13: don't think we're there yet. But the one thing that
• 27:09
Speaker 13: Wall Street, I think the financial markets and the public.
• 27:14
Speaker 12: They want they want a.
• 27:17
Speaker 13: They want certainty, they want predictability, they want consistency, and
• 27:25
Speaker 13: we don't have that right now. He can still change it,
• 27:28
Speaker 13: but that's not his style, not at all.
• 27:30
Speaker 4: Talking to former Charleston mayor Danny Jones, a Dave Island
• 27:32
Speaker 4: showing five Dyeline brought to you apart by your hometown
• 27:35
Speaker 4: baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds are off tonights.
• 27:38
Speaker 4: They play Tuesday through Thursday at Southern Maryland and the
• 27:40
Speaker 4: home opener of this Friday night over at Godmart Ballpark
• 27:43
Speaker 4: again against Southern Maryland the Blue Crabs. First pitch of
• 27:46
Speaker 4: the ballpark. Set for six thirty five tickets, schedules, promotions
• 27:48
Speaker 4: and more of his a Dirty Birds Baseball dot com.
• 27:50
Speaker 4: It is our tradition on Friday leading into opening night,
• 27:55
Speaker 4: we'll have the manager in studio and several players will
• 27:58
Speaker 4: be in studio as well for you twenty year anniversary.
• 28:01
Speaker 4: Twenty years. Yeah, we Jill and I talked about that
• 28:04
Speaker 4: when she was on the show last week, totally switching gears.
• 28:08
Speaker 4: We'll get back to politics. When the ballpark was built,
• 28:13
Speaker 4: take us through that.
• 28:15
Speaker 12: You have no idea?
• 28:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, oh god, we're all ears.
• 28:18
  Speaker 12: First thing.
• 28:19
Speaker 13: When I was running for may or three, you know,
• 28:23
Speaker 13: over twenty years ago, it was sixty five percent against
• 28:29
Speaker 13: and ten percent somewhat against. So that's three quarters of
• 28:32
Speaker 13: the people in this city were against the ballpark. So
• 28:38
Speaker 13: my campaign manager, Larry Lacourt said, don't talk about that ballpark.
• 28:42
  Speaker 12: Now.
• 28:43
Speaker 4: Why were they so much against the ballpark because of
• 28:46
  Speaker 4: wat Pale?
• 28:47
Speaker 13: Yeah, the history of and we never had a winner.
• 28:50
Speaker 13: We never had one that made money. And I remember
• 28:55
Speaker 13: when we had priple a baseball here in the fifties
• 28:58
Speaker 13: and the sixties and the seven we had the Charlies
• 29:02
Speaker 13: and so but they've never had one that really made money,
• 29:10
Speaker 13: or at least that could. It cost the city a
• 29:13
Speaker 13: lot of money to have baseball here, and they just
• 29:16
Speaker 13: thought it was a loser. We had five hundred people
• 29:19
Speaker 13: go to a game when we had triple A baseball
• 29:21
  Speaker 13: in the fifties.
• 29:22
Speaker 4: That's one step away from from the majors.
• 29:24
Speaker 13: So when I got elected, I remember I was on
• 29:30
Speaker 13: with Tom McGee and Mary Sue.
• 29:32
Speaker 12: They said, what about that ballpark? I said, We're going
• 29:34
Speaker 12: to build it. That's the first time I've ever said that.
• 29:38
Speaker 4: And your campaign manager drove off the road at that.
• 29:40
Speaker 12: Well, I'd already been elected.
• 29:41
Speaker 4: Oh okay, okay, I'm sorry.
• 29:42
Speaker 13: And so then I had to sell the thing, and
• 29:47
Speaker 13: I sold it as a part of the arts. It's
• 29:51
Speaker 13: an amenity, it's it's one of the reasons that people
• 29:56
Speaker 13: come to and have something to do. While they're in
• 29:59
Speaker 13: Charles to West Virginia, and that includes the people live
• 30:02
Speaker 13: here and the people that don't.
• 30:05
  Speaker 12: And so.
• 30:08
Speaker 13: We were using a lottery money we had gotten. They'd
• 30:12
Speaker 13: had a plan, you know where we were getting twelve
• 30:15
Speaker 13: million dollars which Craigo got for us. And so Jim
• 30:21
Speaker 13: Lewis challenged it and went to court.
• 30:26
  Speaker 12: And we won.
• 30:30
Speaker 13: But we're up and front the spring court. So we're
• 30:34
Speaker 13: arguing the case. And we made the argument, they argued
• 30:39
Speaker 13: against it, and then we had a press conference. And
• 30:45
Speaker 13: of course I had worked Sprake Maynard like a lobbyist.
• 30:48
  Speaker 12: I mean I had.
• 30:48
Speaker 13: He was a good friend of mine and even though
• 30:51
Speaker 13: he was a justice, and I worked him to no end.
• 30:55
Speaker 13: So we had press conference and I said, we can't
• 30:58
Speaker 13: tell you how to rule, but we need you to
• 31:01
Speaker 13: rule because we're out of town. Seven days later we
• 31:06
Speaker 13: got a we got we won the case seven days later.
• 31:10
Speaker 13: So they heard me.
• 31:11
Speaker 4: And it's it's been, uh, you know, quite a as
• 31:16
Speaker 4: you said, a destination point for people to come to Charleston,
• 31:19
Speaker 4: since it not just for baseball. I mean there's concerts
• 31:21
Speaker 4: and of course the Selango Law light the night, you know,
• 31:24
Speaker 4: the Christmas lights and everything there's gonna be a whole
• 31:26
Speaker 4: lot of people there on Wednesday night when Marshall and
• 31:28
Speaker 4: WVU play baseball. Uh again, And I mean that game,
• 31:32
Speaker 4: weather permitting, will be Wednesday night over at the ballpark.
• 31:35
Speaker 4: And of course it went from Appalachian Power to now
• 31:36
Speaker 4: it's a Gomart ballpark having that corporate entity. I know
• 31:40
Speaker 4: a lot of people there was a lot of controversy
• 31:42
Speaker 4: about it and whatever. But into I mean, you don't
• 31:45
Speaker 4: find stadiums of any size, whether it's big leagues or
• 31:49
Speaker 4: if you find very fewer college iteams that aren't named
• 31:51
Speaker 4: after after somebody, it's some corporate person.
• 31:54
Speaker 13: Well, I remember the old wat Pal Park in the fifties.
• 31:58
Speaker 13: That's when you go to the bath and there was tobacco.
• 32:00
Speaker 4: Juice on the floor, and that was a women's restaurant.
• 32:05
Speaker 13: And by the time that Bob and Sherry got it,
• 32:08
Speaker 13: they had cleaned it up. But Bob and Cherry said,
• 32:11
Speaker 13: we're not staying here in this dump.
• 32:13
  Speaker 12: Now.
• 32:13
Speaker 13: What happened was you either build us a new ballpark
• 32:17
Speaker 13: or we're leaving. Well what shocked them and what threw
• 32:21
Speaker 13: them for a curve with Jay Goldman says we'll build
• 32:25
Speaker 13: your ballpark and That's that's where it came from. So
• 32:29
Speaker 13: they were kind of stuck. But then when we got
• 32:32
  Speaker 13: the ballpark built.
• 32:33
Speaker 12: They sold it. They sold it to Steve White.
• 32:36
Speaker 13: I got a call from Paul Knight and said, what
• 32:38
Speaker 13: do you think about the new owners of the ball team.
• 32:40
Speaker 13: I said, I don't know what you're talking about. Oh yeah,
• 32:46
Speaker 13: Steve and Tim Wilcox.
• 32:48
Speaker 4: And so here we are twenty years later.
• 32:52
Speaker 12: Twenty years later. Now they don't own it anymore now.
• 32:55
Speaker 13: But I told him when they went, when they built
• 32:59
Speaker 13: that restaurant over there, I said, look at us. They
• 33:02
Speaker 13: spent a fortune on that restaurant. They didn't have to, said,
• 33:05
Speaker 13: just take all the equipment out of that Bob Evans,
• 33:08
Speaker 13: it's on the corner of court, and you didn't make
• 33:11
Speaker 13: a restaurant out of all that stuff.
• 33:13
Speaker 12: And they wouldn't. They wouldn't do it.

• 35:50
Speaker 13: Well, the people like Trump, like Trump, and they're not
• 35:54
Speaker 13: going to move and you try to. You know, he
• 35:57
Speaker 13: pardoned a lady out in Nevada that had taken money

Speaker 4: Well, they don't like the polling numbers that I gave

Speaker 4: my wife I was taking I was watching you know
• 36:41
Speaker 4: this week, and I was kind of taking some number,
• 36:43
Speaker 4: you know, taking notes last night or yesterday. I told
• 36:45
Speaker 4: my wife, I said, it doesn't matter because hardcore Trump
• 36:48
Speaker 4: supporters are just going to say it's fake news no

• 36:53
Speaker 12: He's gonna be on with ABC this week.

Speaker 12: I think that anything.
• 37:25
Speaker 13: Mild criticism that our governor would have of our president,
• 37:28
Speaker 13: he would communicate that very privately, if not at all,
• 37:31
  Speaker 13: he wouldn't.
• 37:33
  Speaker 12: He wouldn't.
• 37:33
Speaker 4: No, No, I don't think do you want to see
• 37:35
Speaker 4: any of them will call it?
• 37:36
Speaker 12: Go to one of his side people and say, you know,
• 37:38
Speaker 12: this is really hurting us.
• 37:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, Texas. Trump may be down right now, but according
• 37:42
Speaker 4: to that ipso's poll, he still beats the Democrats in
• 37:44
Speaker 4: Congress in terms of trust to handle the nation's main problems.
• 37:48
Speaker 4: The silver lining for Trump is that the opposition party
• 37:51
Speaker 4: remains out of favor. People said they trust him over
• 37:54
Speaker 4: the Democrats in Congress to handle the nation's main problems
• 37:56
Speaker 4: thirty seven to thirty percent, underscoring bipartisan disc action. Thirty
• 38:00
Speaker 4: percent they said they don't trust either party further, while
• 38:03
Speaker 4: sixty percent said Trump is out of touch with the
• 38:06
Speaker 4: concerns of most people in the country. Even more, sixty
• 38:08
Speaker 4: nine percent that the Democratic Party is out of touch.
• 38:12
Speaker 4: It's sixty four percent for the Republican Party. Overall, it's
• 38:15
Speaker 4: the political middle sixty two percent, and Trump is out
• 38:17
Speaker 4: of touch, while substantially more say the Democratic parties out
• 38:20
Speaker 4: of touch. That's a great point. Yeah, they may be
• 38:23
Speaker 4: speaking against Donald Trump, but he's still in a lot
• 38:28
Speaker 4: of people's eyes, he's still better than the Democrats, who
• 38:31
Speaker 4: have like a negative and at this point they have
• 38:34
Speaker 4: like a negative approval rate.
• 38:35
Speaker 13: At this point, we see all those Democrats on the
• 38:37
Speaker 13: steps of the Capitol, Corey Bucker and the Jefferies, the
• 38:42
Speaker 13: leader of the in the House, and there's a lot
• 38:46
Speaker 13: of virtue signaling going on, but that's not catching on.
• 38:49
Speaker 12: No, it's not helping them.
• 38:51
Speaker 4: Going back to the ballpark, Texas, it seems the Go
• 38:53
Speaker 4: Mart ballpark story is very similar to the current issue.
• 38:56
Speaker 4: We have the civic auditorium. It's too old to be
• 38:59
Speaker 4: able to function as a modern facility and needs to
• 39:01
Speaker 4: be replaced. I think what they were talking they're not saying,
• 39:04
Speaker 4: if I'm reading this right, they're not talking about the
• 39:05
Speaker 4: ballpark now. They're talking about because it's twenty years old now.
• 39:09
Speaker 4: But they're talking about the Watpowell Park story. What would
• 39:12
Speaker 4: you do with the civic auditorium or the or the
• 39:14
  Speaker 4: municipal auditorium.
• 39:15
  Speaker 13: I should say, I don't know what she knows. I
• 39:18
  Speaker 13: don't know what's wrong with it. I don't know what
• 39:20
Speaker 13: can fix it. And you can always sell it. A
• 39:25
Speaker 13: church would buy it.
• 39:26
Speaker 12: And but that's a big piece of property in the
• 39:31
Speaker 12: middle of the city, and they have parking, and it's
• 39:36
Speaker 12: a beautiful theater. It's got great accusion. Oh yeah, yeah,
• 39:39
Speaker 12: they don't. I mean, I hate to use the old expression.
• 39:42
Speaker 4: But it's true. They don't build them like that anymore.
• 39:43
Speaker 4: Some of these old theaters, we got a lot of
• 39:45
Speaker 4: them around West Virginia that are that way as well.
• 39:48
Speaker 13: Helped by the Civilian Conservation Corps. That was a Roosevelt project.
• 39:53
Speaker 4: What do you think about the Town Center raising parking
• 39:56
  Speaker 4: to five dollars?
• 39:58
Speaker 12: Well, who goes there anyway?
• 40:01
Speaker 4: People that are killing time when they're like going to
• 40:03
Speaker 4: something at the Colonel had been Convention Center. I told
• 40:05
Speaker 4: the story on the air a couple of weeks ago.
• 40:07
Speaker 4: My wife and I went to the home show and
• 40:09
Speaker 4: she did want to run in for something at the
• 40:11
Speaker 4: Town Center, and so I just I walked in. I
• 40:13
Speaker 4: took a bench and I just sat there Saturday afternoon.
• 40:16
Speaker 4: There may be four or five people that passed me
• 40:18
Speaker 4: walking by, and they were people that were in town
• 40:21
Speaker 4: for there was some sort of a cheerleading competition or
• 40:23
Speaker 4: something like. And they had this look, and I'm going
• 40:25
Speaker 4: to try to explain this on radio. They had this
• 40:27
Speaker 4: look like you like going back to your hometown and
• 40:30
Speaker 4: it's in ruins and you just look up at the
• 40:32
Speaker 4: sky and you're like, you know, what the hell happened here? No,
• 40:36
Speaker 4: they kind of had that.
• 40:37
Speaker 13: Look, it's an embarrassment. It's an embarrassment to the city.
• 40:42
Speaker 4: But there's really nothing the city can do about it.
• 40:44
Speaker 12: No, but this owner.
• 40:46
Speaker 13: I mean, if you'd had the two restaurants pay their expenses,
• 40:51
Speaker 13: three restaurants two how many what the one at each end,
• 40:56
Speaker 13: if they'd just paid their expenses and let them stay
• 40:58
Speaker 13: there because a lot of people, you know, Todd Waller
• 41:02
Speaker 13: and the other place, but it's it's almost like they
• 41:05
Speaker 13: don't want him there.
• 41:07
Speaker 4: Not playing conspiracy theorists, but if you if you do
• 41:10
Speaker 4: any research, this kind of seems to be the way
• 41:12
Speaker 4: that group operates. And it's it's a shame because they
• 41:15
Speaker 4: came into town, Danny, with all of this fanfare, and
• 41:18
Speaker 4: I know, I did a segment with the mayor and
• 41:21
Speaker 4: we had mister Hall, the whole group on the on
• 41:24
Speaker 4: the on the line with us about all the great
• 41:26
Speaker 4: things he was going to do, and nothing, nothing got
• 41:30
Speaker 4: nothing got done, and we just did constantly hear about
• 41:32
Speaker 4: more and more places going out there. Texas, NPR and
• 41:36
Speaker 4: PBS rely on federal funding for thirteen percent and eighteen
• 41:39
Speaker 4: percent of their budgets, respectively. Elon Musk's companies have received
• 41:43
Speaker 4: thirty eight billion dollars in federal funding over two decades.
• 41:47
Speaker 4: He's just one of the billionaires gobbling up federal money. Now,
• 41:50
Speaker 4: who are the welfare queens?
• 41:51
Speaker 12: Now, wait a minute, is this is this his space?
• 41:56
Speaker 4: I'm presuming yes, I'm presuming this with the text.
• 41:59
Speaker 13: Means well, I'm not against that. I mean, when I
• 42:03
Speaker 13: got those people out of out of space, I bet
• 42:06
Speaker 13: going through him is probably cheaper than us building and ourselves.
• 42:13
Speaker 4: Text says the difference. In Biden's recession, he was handed
• 42:17
Speaker 4: to fumbling economy from a fumbled COVID response and Putin
• 42:20
Speaker 4: invaded Ukraine, which caused a lot of turmoil. Trump's policies
• 42:24
Speaker 4: slowed down the economy that may lead to a recession
• 42:27
Speaker 4: external factory factors versus self inflicted decisions.
• 42:32
Speaker 13: Yeah, and you've got they tried out different people to
• 42:36
Speaker 13: talk about it that have different philosophies. There's conflict within
• 42:40
Speaker 13: the administration. You've got the Commerce Secretary. I mean, these
• 42:45
Speaker 13: are all smart people, but he's full blown maga. Now
• 42:50
Speaker 13: Scott visit the Treasury Secretary. He's not He's a Wall
• 42:55
  Speaker 13: Street guy.
• 42:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, he's real awesome in everything. Over the weekend, Texas,
• 42:59
Speaker 4: speaking of large buildings being questioned, if Danny had his
• 43:02
Speaker 4: knowledge today that he had when the town Center was built,
• 43:05
Speaker 4: would he still support the destruction of the neighborhood the
• 43:08
Speaker 4: town center was built over to construct the town Center.
• 43:12
Speaker 12: Well, it was all part of urban renewal. And I
• 43:14
Speaker 12: didn't have a say in it.
• 43:15
Speaker 4: That you weren't mayor at the time.
• 43:16
Speaker 13: So know only that it happened when I was in Vietnam,
• 43:19
Speaker 13: So I know that my father was sending me articles.
• 43:26
Speaker 13: It wasn't just that. It wasn't just the town Center,
• 43:29
Speaker 13: it was the It was the Interstate, a white man's

Speaker 13: wasn't in that group. And I probably shouldn't have. My friends,

• 49:19
Speaker 13: No, I think his first cabinet when he first became president,
• 49:23
Speaker 13: was one of the best cabinets I ever saw. I'm
• 49:25
Speaker 13: talking about Rex Tillerson, General Madis. He had, He had
• 49:30
Speaker 13: really a really good lineup. The problem is he wants
• 49:35
Speaker 13: people to tell him what he wants to hear instead
• 49:38
Speaker 13: of what he needs to know. And that's the flaw
• 49:40
Speaker 13: in his leadership. And he is now he's been on revenge.
• 49:44
Speaker 13: Revenge is the number one.
• 49:46

Speaker 4: did not know that.
• 50:14
Speaker 13: Have you ever listened to a speech by Admiral or Craven? No, Oh,

Speaker 13: Craven tells you, if you want to have a good day,
• 50:32
Speaker 13: the first thing you need to.
• 50:33
Speaker 12: Do is make your bed. Okay, Yeah, And he.

• 50:42
Speaker 4: to do is get out of it. Because a lot
• 50:44
Speaker 4: of people haven't struggled with that. DJ Meadows never has
