- 0:24SPEAKER_01: The B Team Podcast.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Be here.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: We got to get back to the book here.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Like how did this come about?
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Like tell us how we got to this.
- 0:32SPEAKER_04: To the book.
- 0:33SPEAKER_04: So I started, I've always wanted to write.
- 0:36SPEAKER_04: I always have loved writing.
- 0:37SPEAKER_04: And I started this book.
- 0:40SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's been in process for like five years, I would say, but I've had lots of ideas on my little notes on my phone of book ideas.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: And then actually started, did the proposal and all that.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Jenny didn't bring one of them.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: So I don't carry my book with me.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, Jenny, I would carry three or four just in case.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, you want to buy one?
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: I actually have my penbo.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: You want to sign one?
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Matt, it's Jenny Mars's book.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: She doesn't have to do that.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: It's not Matt Mars's book.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: I have like a little card that I push around and a backpack with 19 books in him.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: Hold on, you want them?
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: I'll put a special approach.
- 1:20SPEAKER_04: I do have them in the car, but I didn't I didn't want to assume.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I'm just gonna.
- 1:24SPEAKER_04: Um anyway, so I did the proposal a couple years ago.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: It took about two years to write.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: And I let Dave have special appearances, as you can see.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: It really, it really gave him a moment.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: But Dave's right Dave's parts, he has, let me see if I can find one of his parts in here.
- 1:42SPEAKER_04: His, he just is like he just would he would record a note on his phone and then I would just transcribe it and then edit it for him.
- 1:51SPEAKER_04: So that he was you do it in like 15 minutes, and you're like, Well, I did my writing for today.
- 1:57SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, okay, Dave.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like Josh, if if we ever need anything written, we have Emily do it.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Like we aren't allowed to write it.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: Know your role, know your value.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: We post something on Facebook, and these guys are like, none of us is literate enough to write something good.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: So they go Emily, you write it and we'll share it.
- 2:16SPEAKER_04: Exactly, exactly.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: So that's what she did with Dave.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: Dave was like, he doesn't like to write.
- 2:21SPEAKER_04: He's like, I don't want to write, I'll talk.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: I'm like, okay, fine.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:25SPEAKER_04: So anyway, and then um launched this November.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: So it's basically um, I'm sure you've read it front to back.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: We do.
- 2:34SPEAKER_04: Um so each chapter is about a space in your home, and I tell a story from our family.
- 2:39SPEAKER_04: So it's kind of a memoir style.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Um so a story about each of those spaces to kind of kick off the chapter.
- 2:45SPEAKER_04: And I chose a story about each space that sometimes it's like like I talk about Christmas morning for the living room, right?
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: So it's not necessarily it's not at all about the design of the space, it's just memories in those spaces.
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: And part of the reason I did that too is so that I have, I mean, like the kids have something, you know, like I have all my I have tons and tons of journals, but I mean, someday when I'm gone, they'll probably read those.
- 3:10SPEAKER_04: But it's nice to have like a a you know, a book about your your family.
- 3:16SPEAKER_04: So yeah.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: He Rob found the finest screw top that he can do.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: He did, good job.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And I was running late, so I was like, Andy, go get him on online.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: She was like, I think we had one other night when they were.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, perfect.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: He's like, So it's old.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So I got to go.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Stay out of the, yeah.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: No, no, it wasn't open.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it wasn't open.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: He's like, stay out of the stay out of the good stuff.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Uh don't go crazy.
- 3:38SPEAKER_04: Don't go crazy.
- 3:39SPEAKER_04: Um, but no, we have Italy's the Mr.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: Fabulous Italiano is airing right now when this airs.
- 3:46SPEAKER_04: Um, well, it's six episodes.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: We filmed it over the course of a year.
- 3:49SPEAKER_04: Matt Mars himself was there for the first demo.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And it snowed.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: It snowed while we were in Tuscany.
- 3:56SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: It was nuts.
- 3:58SPEAKER_04: It was so crazy.
- 3:59SPEAKER_04: And then it was so busy.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: Filming over there was awful.
- 4:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was so busy.
- 4:05SPEAKER_04: And it's also awful because you're in Italy and you're like, Well, you're on a tight timeline.
- 4:10SPEAKER_04: It was a tight, like every day was so long, and you're just like, I want to enjoy being in Italy, and I can't.
- 4:16SPEAKER_04: But we tried.
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: We did.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: So we would do a 12-hour day, and then you'd be like, I can stay up another six hours.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:22SPEAKER_04: So we did.
- 4:23SPEAKER_04: So that was the power.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And after seven or ten days, it's hard to function.
- 4:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_04: And then we escaped.
- 4:28SPEAKER_04: You guys went to Pisa.
- 4:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: You and Kim.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I got a few tickets that Davey had to pay for.
- 4:32SPEAKER_04: Yes, because it was our rental car in Dave's name.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah.
- 4:39SPEAKER_04: So it was good.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: We're like, huh, that's interesting on the way to Pisa.
- 4:43SPEAKER_04: Matt Marsh was driving.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: I was on the interstate and everyone's slowing down, and I was like, I wonder why they're all slowing down.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: And Dave's like, you know when they were all slowing down?
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: That's when you got the ticket to get me.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Well, I didn't get a ticket, you did.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: And you expressed it back to the show.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know how that all sick me out.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I I think I owe him.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Dave might not be able to get a real car next time again.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: I know I'm actually nervous about that.
- 5:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: Well, yes, yes.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: But I don't like the whole the logistics to that.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: I don't know how you guys.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: That was crazy.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: It was nuts.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: We went back and forth six times over a year.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, wow.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: Um, and we revealed the house at the end of January, this past January.
- 5:24SPEAKER_04: So that was crazy.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: And then we're in pre-production now.
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: I don't know when the show.
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: Wait, we'll probably be filming by the time the show airs.
- 5:32unknown: Yeah.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: Or in the next season.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: Actually, Joe called me yesterday because he was at where was he?
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: He went to the grocery store.
- 5:39SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 5:40SPEAKER_04: He was buying beer.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: The gas station, maybe?
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: Do they sell beer at the gas station?
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's usually at the get and go there.
- 5:45SPEAKER_04: That's where he was.
- 5:46SPEAKER_04: He said he was buying beer.
- 5:48SPEAKER_04: And uh he goes, You wouldn't even recognize me.
- 5:50SPEAKER_04: My beer I grew my beard out.
- 5:51SPEAKER_04: And I was like, Oh, okay.
- 5:52SPEAKER_04: See a new phase, Joe.
- 5:54SPEAKER_04: And he's like, but this guy recognized me.
- 5:55SPEAKER_04: And he said he had um loved the show and his daughter likes the show.
- 5:59SPEAKER_04: And his daughter was there and she's in a wheelchair, and he didn't, you know, he didn't allow he's I had some special needs, of course.
- 6:08SPEAKER_04: And then he was like, So Jenny, I think we're gonna if you you and Dave will come meet me, let's go surprise her, and we can all three show up and surprise her.
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: And so we're gonna go on Friday to go surprise her.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: I was like, Of course, Joe, let's go.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: So he was he was really excited, which is fun because Joe doesn't really like people.
- 6:24SPEAKER_04: So I was like, Joe, you want to like go to see someone?
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I do.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Joe's got such a big heart.
- 6:29SPEAKER_04: He's such a big heart, such a big heart.
- 6:31SPEAKER_04: And kids and animals, yeah, he will do anything.
- 6:34SPEAKER_04: So you know, yeah, he doesn't ask for much, but yeah, I was like, But that's also again going back to who you guys are in your super busy time.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: Make time like three days from now to go do that.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: That's super cool.
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we're actually out of town that day, so we're gonna come home early and go meet him.
- 6:46SPEAKER_04: That'll be good.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: That's amazing.
- 6:48SPEAKER_04: But yeah, be fun.
