- 0:24Here's Pastor Ed to take us into our study.
- 0:28Amen take your Bibles, open them the Exodus chapter 29.
- 0:32We'll pick up where we left off last time.
- 0:34Exodus 29 have entitled our Bible study, the ordination of
- 0:39the priests, the ordination of the priest.
- 0:43If you weren't here last time, we took the we took a deep look
- 0:48at the priesthood and we did it. We went a little more in depth.
- 0:52We covered a couple of chapters the previous time.
- 0:55But then when I went back to look, I said, no, I want to
- 0:57spend some time looking at the ministry of the priesthood by
- 1:01way of application, the ministry to those of us in ministry and
- 1:05service. And if you weren't here, the
- 1:07five points that we covered last time, we're #1 priests are
- 1:11appointed by God #2 the priest had special clothing.
- 1:16Thirdly, we learned the priest represented man before God.
- 1:21Fourthly, the priest helped people discover the will of God.
- 1:25And then fifthly, the priest had to take their calling very
- 1:29seriously. And now we look at the
- 1:31ordination ceremony and what surrounded the ordination, or
- 1:36some of your Bibles might say the consecration or the setting
- 1:39apart of the priest. Verse 1, Chapter 29.
- 1:44And this is what you shall do to them, to hallow them for
- 1:47ministering to me as priests. Take one young bowl and two Rams
- 1:53without blemish, and unleavened bread, unleavened cakes mixed
- 1:57with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil.
- 2:00You shall make them of wheat flour.
- 2:03You shall put them in one basket and bring them in the basket
- 2:06with the bowl and the two Rams. Now as we begin the chapter, you
- 2:11think what an exciting time this must have been, how important it
- 2:15was as these men were represented and presented to the
- 2:19people as Gods ordained priest. They've been appointed by God.
- 2:24They are going to be seen with their special clothing there.
- 2:27They are there to represent men before God and they helped
- 2:31discover they could be the men that God could use in their
- 2:34lives to help discover the will of God.
- 2:37And they took this very seriously.
- 2:39And this ordination ceremony, this consecration time was a one
- 2:44time occurrence, the launching of God's chosen into the
- 2:48ministry of the priesthood. Get a young bowl, get 2 Rams
- 2:52unleavened bread. Bring them in a basket verse and
- 2:54four. And Aaron and his sons you shall
- 2:59bring at the door of the Tabernacle of meeting, and you
- 3:02shall wash them with water. Then you shall take the
- 3:07garments, put the tunic on Aaron, and the robe, and the
- 3:10ephod and the breastplate, and gird him with intricately woven
- 3:15band of the ephod. You shall put the turban on his
- 3:18head, and put the holy crown on the turban.
- 3:22And you shall take the anointing oil, pour it on his head, and
- 3:25anoint him. Then you shall bring his sons
- 3:27and put tunics on them. Verse 9.
- 3:30And you shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and
- 3:34put the hats on them. The priesthood shall be theirs
- 3:38for a perpetual statute. So you shall consecrate Aaron
- 3:42and his sons. There are five steps you'll
- 3:46notice in this ordination ceremony. 5 steps to the
- 3:51service. The first one is in verse 4, and
- 3:53that is separation. They were to be separated.
- 3:57Bring them to the door of the Tabernacle.
- 3:59Separate them, bring them up front so that all might see.
- 4:05And we learn from this. An important aspect of ministry
- 4:08and that is the servant of the Lord is always on display.
- 4:12There is a sense of ministry where there is no time to excuse
- 4:17yourself from ministry, but rather you live on display and
- 4:22if you develop a pattern of making excuses for the mistakes
- 4:28in ministry, then you will never really learn anything.
- 4:32It's important that you are faithful in all that God has
- 4:34called you to do and your spiritual growth is directly
- 4:39related to the understanding of your separation unto the Lord.
- 4:43Number two. Number two, we noticed that they
- 4:45were washed. This ceremonial washing.
- 4:49This was done in a mikdba. It would be a little area that
- 4:55was filled with water where the priests would then be brought
- 4:58under the water taking a sort of a bath that that full immersion.
- 5:03It would be a little baptismal if you will, and this would
- 5:06launch them into service. It remind us of John chapter 13
- 5:10in verse 7. Jesus has answered and said to
- 5:13them, What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will
- 5:18know after this. And then Peter said to him, You
- 5:21shall never wash my feet. And Jesus answered, If I do not
- 5:26wash you, you have no part with me.
- 5:29And Simon Peter said to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also
- 5:33my hands and my head. It's a very good, there's a very
- 5:38good possibility that Peter had in his mind, this ceremonial
- 5:41washing, having Jesus as his rabbi, learning from him.
- 5:45Hey, look, don't wash my feet. You, you are below that Jesus.
- 5:48I'm the one that should be washing feet.
- 5:50But Jesus, no, no, no. If you want any part of me, you
- 5:52need to allow me to wash your entire life.
- 5:55Wash you completely. I love that #3.
- 5:58The third part of this ceremony was the anointing of oil.
- 6:01The pouring of oil over the head allowing it to drip down onto
- 6:05the clothing. Oil symbolic of the Spirit of
- 6:08God coming down upon them, empowering them from ministry,
- 6:13empowering them for what will come up ahead.
- 6:15We looked at this in depth in Zechariah chapter 4.
- 6:18Not by my, not by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord, that
- 6:23never ending supply of oil. But this would be a tangible
- 6:26anointing of oil. The fourth thing we see is the
- 6:29animal sacrifice. Notice in verse 10 it says you
- 6:34shall also have the bull brought before the Tabernacle of
- 6:37meeting, and there Aaron and his son shall put their hands on the
- 6:41head of the bull. Verse 11 And you shall kill the
- 6:44bull before the Lord by the door of the Tabernacle of meeting.
- 6:49And then take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the
- 6:51horns of the altar with your finger and pour all the blood
- 6:56beside the base of of the altar. So there's the animal sacrifice
- 7:01beginning in verse 10. And then the number 5 is the
- 7:04anointing with the blood, the consecration disservice by the
- 7:09Saint slain blood of innocent animals.
- 7:12Don't forget that the animals that were sacrificed unto the
- 7:16Lord had committed no sins. They become very symbolic.
- 7:21These animals do of the coming one who would be slain on your
- 7:24behalf and mine with no sin. They have no sin.
- 7:28They're completely innocent. And yet in the sacrifice they
- 7:33would point to the coming of Messiah.
- 7:38Now the ceremony was very symbolic and very powerful in
- 7:42the lives of the priests and also for the health of the
- 7:45nation. These were God's choice.
- 7:50These men were God's choice for the spiritual nourishment of His
- 7:54people. Not a man singular, but many
- 7:57men, Aaron and his sons. It was to be a family affair for
- 8:02the priesthood. And it was also sending an
- 8:05overall important message. Before a person can serve God,
- 8:09listen. Before a person can serve God,
- 8:12he must be first cleansed by God #1 really if you want to think
- 8:17back, number one is to be selected by God.
- 8:20But we believe in the priesthood of all believers in the new
- 8:22covenant. So as a new born again believer,
- 8:25you've already been pre selected male and female to serve the
- 8:29Lord with His gifts and the capacity that He has given to
- 8:32you. You're to run what your race.
- 8:36You're not to run someone else's race.
- 8:38You're to run your race. You're to do the will of God for
- 8:41your life. You are to singularly look to
- 8:45the Lord like Jesus did. I love what Jesus said.
- 8:48He said I always do those things that please the Father.
- 8:53That's how you're going to get rest at night.
- 8:55That's how you're going to be able to to fall asleep at night.
- 8:58As you assess your day and you reveal all that you've been
- 9:01through, you put your head down on the pillow and say, you know
- 9:03what? I've been faithful to the Lord
- 9:05today. I have been faithful to the Lord
- 9:08and what He's called me. So you have that separation, but
- 9:10you also have that cleansing of God.
- 9:14And then thirdly, you have the empowerment of His Holy Spirit,
- 9:19you to have your sins dealt with and touched by the blood, that
- 9:23sacrifice and that you would walk away covered in the blood,
- 9:29remembering what God has done on your behalf.
- 9:33And this is especially important today for anyone that takes the
- 9:37place of a spiritual leader, a spiritual leader.
- 9:40Today we don't refer to those men as priests.
- 9:43We call them pastors, a position in a role of key spiritual
- 9:49leadership. And unfortunately, all across
- 9:52the land today, pulpits are filled with men in some cases
- 9:56that haven't experienced any of this.
- 9:59You know, in the worst cases, pulpits and churches today,
- 10:02so-called churches are filled with men that aren't even born
- 10:05again fulfilling a role in a task and a job.
- 10:11They're twisting and perverting the word of God and countless
- 10:14millions are being hurt. In Psalm 119, verse 32, it says
- 10:21the psalmist says in our hearts resonate with him.
- 10:24I will run the course of your commandments, for you shall
- 10:29enlarge my heart to be separated and consecrated.
- 10:33We spent a lot of time in our study last time.
- 10:36The ministry is not something to take upon yourself.
- 10:40It is the appointing in the anointing of God is ratified and
- 10:44approved by the elders of a local congregation.
- 10:48If you take it upon yourself, which many people have, you'll
- 10:51be buried under its weight. You'll be buried under the
- 10:55difficulties enjoined by ministry.
- 10:58But here you see in verse 9, it says you shall gird them, take
- 11:03these boys, take Aaron and his sons, put the hats on them.
- 11:07The priesthood is theirs. Consecrate them, set them apart.
- 11:11I like that. I want you to recognize that
- 11:14phrase. I know it's just simple and we
- 11:16kind of read through it. We totally understand it.
- 11:18It's very easy to understand. He says there in verse 9, Aaron
- 11:23and his sons. Easy enough to understand.
- 11:27This would be the lineage of the priesthood, Aaron and his sons.
- 11:33And it reminds me that as we go forward serving God, your
- 11:38family's included, the calling of God is upon your family too.
- 11:42I want you to think about your kids for a second.
- 11:44I know your kids didn't choose to be born into your into your
- 11:47home and I'm sure they tell you that sometimes, but you know
- 11:51what God chose for your kids to be born into your home that
- 11:55anointing and consecration upon your life, your singleness, your
- 11:59marriage and the children that come from marriage, the ministry
- 12:03is upon them as well. Now, of course it's not the
- 12:06same. Your kids don't follow
- 12:08necessarily in your exact footsteps that they may not have
- 12:12the same calling upon your their lives as do some of the sons of
- 12:16Aaron. However, the family is a part of
- 12:19the package. Like, for example, if you you
- 12:23married later on in life, you were a little bit older when you
- 12:27got married and the man that you married was already running with
- 12:29ministry, but you're not so running with ministry and you're
- 12:32like, you know what, I'm we're getting married.
- 12:34No more ministry. Can't have that.
- 12:37You married into it. You're now one in the Lord.
- 12:41Now your husband or wife, depending on which psychos may
- 12:44need to slow down a little bit. They may need to wait alongside,
- 12:47but it's all part of the package.
- 12:49Aaron and your sons, I was reminded as I was putting
- 12:54together, and for the life of me I can't find the notes on this
- 12:57Bible study. I don't think it was from notes,
- 12:59but I was in South Africa many years ago teaching at a missions
- 13:03conference and a pastor's conference, and I heard the buzz
- 13:07as I was ministering to people throughout the camp.
- 13:10I just heard this, this low level complaining, complaining
- 13:14about ministry, complaining about the kids and the kids not
- 13:18being happy and all. And I remember as we'll get to a
- 13:21moment, a section of the scripture where God spoke to my
- 13:25heart to exhort everyone at that conference to remember that
- 13:29we're all in ministry and that while your kids and our kids, we
- 13:33didn't, they didn't get to choose what family that they
- 13:36were born into. God had the choice already for
- 13:38them. God already knew what they're
- 13:40going to do with their with with their lives.
- 13:42He already knew how he's going to use your home.
- 13:44He already knew how he's going to use your calling.
- 13:46You think of the sons of Aaron. They didn't choose to be born
- 13:49into errands, but God already knew about these boys, these
- 13:53young men. And I want to encourage you
- 13:55today as hard challenges again might be, that God knows what He
- 13:58wants to do with your family. He knows how He wants to
- 14:01minister to your kids. He knows what he wants to teach
- 14:05them in your home, in your church, in that sacrifice, in
- 14:09that commitment, and all of the things that involve with you
- 14:13serving God, your kids are included.
- 14:16Can I get an Amen on that? You might just need to see it to
- 14:18yourself. You don't need to say it to me.
- 14:20You might need to say it to yourself that you bring the kids
- 14:22along with you. It's your family.
- 14:25You bring them right along and allow them.
- 14:27You know, I think of, I think of how many of the precious moms in
- 14:30our church brought their kids along for nine months, nine
- 14:34months in the womb, just walking around, walking around.
- 14:37And you know what? A lot of those kids, you know
- 14:39what? They know my voice because
- 14:43they've heard it for nine months.
- 14:45They know my voice. They know what it's like for mom
- 14:48to worship. They feel when her body is in
- 14:52such a way where her hands are lifted.
- 14:55They feel within the womb the tears of sorrow and brokenness
- 15:00that God brings. They're already a part of the
- 15:02package. Moms already, those of you that
- 15:07brought in foster kids or adopted kids, God already knew.
- 15:11He already knew what He was going to do with those kids.
- 15:14And you and I, we get to be a part of it.
- 15:16I don't want you to miss this. It was Aaron and his sons.
- 15:19Now, of course, the family is not to be neglected, but must be
- 15:23brought along. This is family that they were
- 15:26born into God's will for their lives.
- 15:29The world wants you to be afraid and nervous and what's going to
- 15:33happen? I mean, today the big thing, the
- 15:35big thought today among young people is, oh, I don't want to
- 15:38bring kids into such a horrible world.
- 15:40Now, I understand that I, I don't necessarily disagree with
- 15:44that thought and to really consider the world in which we
- 15:48live right now and the world in which a child might be born.
- 15:51But I'm telling you this, God opens and closes the womb, and
- 15:56He knows what kind of world your kids are going to be brought
- 15:59into before you do. Aren't you grateful that God
- 16:03knows more than you do? That He can see more, that He
- 16:08can see farther ahead, That He knows even your past, what He
- 16:12can do to work all things together for good for those that
- 16:16love God and those that are called according to His purpose.
- 16:19Aaron and his sons. If you don't have children, it's
- 16:23a family affair, husband and wife if you're a single today.
- 16:27If you're a single, it's even greater.
- 16:30The Bible says single men and women get to completely devote
- 16:33their whole life and attention to serving the Lord.
- 16:36In this season. You don't need to be worried
- 16:39about overly concerned about what the future is going to hold
- 16:42because today is the day you have the privilege of serving
- 16:46the Lord with your whole heart. You know how it is singles among
- 16:50us. And I understand I served
- 16:52singles for so many years. And of course, in the, I was a
- 16:54singles pastor for a few years in California and, and of
- 16:58course, serving all of the singles here all these years,
- 17:01there is that prevailing thought about many, many singles.
- 17:04I want to be married. I want to be married.
- 17:06I want to be married. You know what the prevailing
- 17:09thought among many married couples are?
- 17:11I'm not. What are you guys laughing at?
- 17:14They Yeah, I'll tell you, I love marriage.
- 17:16That's what their thought is. But you know, here's the thing,
- 17:19you'll never really, I'll never really enjoy the fullness of
- 17:24what God has for me until I'm content where I am.
- 17:28Contentment brings fruit, godliness.
- 17:31I just like that. I love that Aaron and his sons.
- 17:35The Lord is wanting to use your family in a wonderful ways.
- 17:39So we saw in verse 10 the sin offering.
- 17:41They placed their hands on the sacrificial bull symbolic of the
- 17:45vicarious atonement or the substitution.
- 17:49Vicarious. It means in place of Jesus
- 17:52Christ is the vicarious substitute for your sins and
- 17:56mine. This bowl would be the vicarious
- 17:59substitute for the sins of the priests and the people.
- 18:05That animal they would see is my substitute.
- 18:08They would see a very powerful picture of sin producing death
- 18:13and when we come to Jesus, he is the one that bore our sins once
- 18:17for all. And by faith you are forgiven
- 18:21and born again. When we see Jesus dying on the
- 18:24cross, we need to recognize when Jesus dying on the cross, it is
- 18:28not for his guilt. He is not guilty, He's innocent.
- 18:33When Jesus died on the cross, he died for my guilt, for our
- 18:39guilt. We, like sheep, have all gone
- 18:42astray. The Bible says Isaiah 53.
- 18:45We've turned everyone to his own way and on the Lord.
- 18:49This Isaiah 53, six and it says, And the Lord has laid on him the
- 18:54iniquity of us all. He took upon himself my sins and
- 19:01his vicarious substitutionary death, burial and resurrection.
- 19:07I believe God like Abraham. And what do we learn?
- 19:10It's accounted to me for righteousness, same As for you.
- 19:16It's a very bloody ministry. It says here, if you want to
- 19:20picture yourself in that moment. So ordination ceremony.
- 19:23When we ordained men into the ministry here, we're recognizing
- 19:27God's call upon their life. We bring them up on the stage.
- 19:29We lay hands on them and pray for them.
- 19:32We don't sacrifice animals and we're not splattering blood on
- 19:35everybody because it's already been done by Jesus.
- 19:38Doesn't need to be done over and over and over again.
- 19:41But here, coming out of Egypt, don't forget the context coming
- 19:44out of Egypt, establishing a new relationship with God, new
- 19:47order, new direction, it's all brand new for them.
- 19:51God wants them to understand blood that is shed is going to
- 19:55be a big part of their life from this day forward.
- 20:00From this day forward, pointing to Messiah, verse 14.
- 20:02Now what's that? Verse 13, You shall take all the
- 20:06fat that covers the entrails, the fatty lobe attached to the
- 20:10liver and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and
- 20:13burn them on the altar. But the flesh of the bull with
- 20:16its skin and it's awful, you shall burn with fire outside the
- 20:20camp. It is a sin offering.
- 20:24Hold your place here. Go all the way back to Hebrews
- 20:26with me. I want to show you something.
- 20:28This is where when you're reading through the Scriptures,
- 20:30you can write your own little cross references.
- 20:32Notice with me if you want to go there.
- 20:34Hebrews chapter 13. Go all the way back.
- 20:37Hebrews 13. This animal was to be burned
- 20:40with fire outside of the camp. But notice in Hebrews 13, in
- 20:46verse 11, Hebrews 13, verse 11, it says for the bodies of those
- 20:51beasts whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high
- 20:54priest for sin are burned outside the camp.
- 20:59Now we just learned that we learned it first of Exodus with
- 21:01the Tabernacle. It'll be repeated again when the
- 21:04temple was built. So we just learned this first.
- 21:06Now you can cross reference and go back to where the first
- 21:09mention of this is in the Old Testament.
- 21:11But then notice he ties again. Now the, the men and women
- 21:16coming out of Exodus, they don't get this yet.
- 21:18It's only in type, it's only in picture.
- 21:20It's only looking forward. They're having in their life in
- 21:23our minds right now. They're learning one singular
- 21:25lesson. And that may be where you're at
- 21:26right now, learning the totality of the scriptures or the
- 21:30insurance and outs of nuance or learning how to study the
- 21:33scriptures. You're still in an early stage
- 21:35and you're learning a few things.
- 21:37Just the just over and over and over again.
- 21:40What, what are the children of Israel learning very quickly
- 21:43here? And it's very simple for them.
- 21:45And you might be learning the same thing.
- 21:46It's very simple. God is God and you are not.
- 21:52So you're to look to God for your for everything.
- 21:55He just delivered you. He just wiped out the enemy
- 21:58behind you. He's just established, well
- 22:01really, he established a leader over you to get you out of
- 22:03Egypt, sent them, heard your cries, heard your pleas, and
- 22:07he's working in your life and you're here like, well, I wish
- 22:10it would go faster and I wish it would move fast.
- 22:12I get that. I see.
- 22:15That's not the lesson God has for you.
- 22:16He wants you to master this lesson.
- 22:18God is God, and you and I were not.
- 22:22We could trust him. You could easily stand back.
- 22:26Go. Whoa, whoa, wait.
- 22:26Why Aaron and why his sons? And why the blood and why that
- 22:30ammo? We could eat that and we could
- 22:32that. There's all kinds of reasonable
- 22:33answers or even unreasonable answers, but they're learning.
- 22:37No, this is what I want. This is what I want.
- 22:40This is the way I want it. Well, what if we?
- 22:43No, I didn't have no modifications.
- 22:45This is how I want it. This is how I want the priest to
- 22:48be recognized. I want it this way, this order,
- 22:51this place, these men, Aaron, I want it to be your boys.
- 22:57I want it to be the men you're raising in your home.
- 23:00I want it to be your lineage. All of this is God, is God.
- 23:04And outside the camp, you can see now back in Hebrews it says
- 23:08in verse 12. Because of this, therefore Jesus
- 23:12also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood.
- 23:17Where did He suffer? Outside the gate.
- 23:21Therefore we go forth to Him outside the camp, bearing His
- 23:24reproach. Now I know the children of
- 23:27Israel couldn't learn that truth yet, but God still gave it to
- 23:31Him. They didn't get the fullness,
- 23:34but God still gave it to them. It reminds me in my own life
- 23:38that I need to receive the revelation that God gives me in
- 23:41the moment. I need to receive what I'm
- 23:44learning right now. I may want more, I may want
- 23:49everything explained, but I need to receive what God gives me.
- 23:52If he says this is what I want, then this is what you need.
- 23:55Just a simple life. It's really just a simple life
- 23:58following Jesus. God tells us to do something and
- 24:01we do it. God tells us to do something,
- 24:04and what's our response? We do it.
- 24:07I didn't hear anybody say I'm going to give you this is a pop
- 24:09quiz. God tells us to do something and
- 24:12we do it. It's a simple life.
- 24:15I wonder how many are listening to me today.
- 24:17Heard what the Lord told you to do, and you won't do it.
- 24:21Oh, no, I'm doing it, Ed. OK, then you won't do it with
- 24:23the right spirit. You won't do it the right way.
- 24:28Oh, you're going to do it all right.
- 24:29No, no, no, no, no, no. You could already tell by your
- 24:32attitude you're not doing it the right way.
- 24:34You not only need to do it, but you need to do it God's way,
- 24:38following Him. Jesus outside the camp.
- 24:42I just received what the Lord gives me in the moment, and I
- 24:45know He'll give me more when I'm ready for it.
- 24:47Verse 15 Now you shall also take one ram, and Aaron, and his and
- 24:51Aaron and his sons shall put their hands on the head of the
- 24:53ram, and you shall kill the ram, and you shall take its blood and
- 24:57sprinkle it all around the altar.
- 24:59Then you shall cut the ram in pieces, wash its entrails and
- 25:02its legs, put them with its pieces and with its head, and
- 25:06you shall burn the whole ram on the altar.
- 25:09It's a burnt offering to the Lord, a sweet aroma and offering
- 25:14made by fire to the Lord. Now, while the first offering
- 25:18was a matter of sin, this offering is a matter of total
- 25:21consecration, a sweet aroma to the Lord.
- 25:25You can jot it down. In Romans chapter 12.
- 25:27We're given that instruction in a new covenant to present
- 25:31ourselves to God. What a living sacrifice.
- 25:36You give it all to Him. That's the sweet aroma.
- 25:40And we're reminded too of Jesus here, who gave Himself
- 25:43completely to the will of the Father.
- 25:45Verse 19 And you should also take the other ram.
- 25:49And Aaron and his son shall put their hands on the head of the
- 25:51ram. And you shall kill the ram and
- 25:53take some of its blood, and put it on the tip of the right ear
- 25:56of Aaron, and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, and on
- 25:59the thumb of their right hand, and on the big toe of their
- 26:02right foot. And sprinkle the blood all
- 26:05around the altar. And you shall take some of the
- 26:09blood that's on the altar and some of the anointing oil,
- 26:12sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments and on his sons, and on
- 26:16the garments of his sons with him.
- 26:18And he and his garments shall be hallowed, and his sons and his
- 26:23son's garments with him. This is interesting.
- 26:27And now there's a specific place where the blood was to be
- 26:30applied to the priest. Take notes here #1 tip of the
- 26:34ear. Why?
- 26:36So that they might have ears to hear the word of the Lord #2 on
- 26:41the thumb of the right hand, so that they would do the work with
- 26:45their hands in the holiness and the fear of God, their ears will
- 26:48be set apart. You got to be very careful who
- 26:51you choose to listen to. You and I, we need to be very
- 26:54careful what we choose to listen to.
- 26:56It's very important. There is this bitterness that
- 27:01defiles everyone around them. And you want to be careful
- 27:07because it comes to those that are in proximity to those that
- 27:10are close. Be careful with your ear, be
- 27:13careful with your hand. And then finally, the last place
- 27:16of anointing was on the big toe. Again, we read in the Psalms,
- 27:20one of my favorite passages, but that we would run in the way of
- 27:23our, you know, without a, without a big toe, you know, you
- 27:25have no balance. You're not able to stand up
- 27:28straight, make any movement. Can you imagine not having two
- 27:31big toes? Like you'd be in a mess of
- 27:33trouble. And that idea of like, no, this
- 27:36is the place of stability, the place of progress, Where will my
- 27:42feet take me? That my feet would be holy and
- 27:45pure because it takes the rest of my body.
- 27:48I love this. This could be a Bible study in
- 27:49and of itself. Right ear, thumb of the right
- 27:52hand and the big toe. Then take some of the oil, mix
- 27:55it up with the oil or some of the blood in verse 21, mix it up
- 27:58with the oil and then pour it all over again on the priest now
- 28:02and the garments. This is a sign and a remembrance
- 28:05of their whole complete, continual being set apart for
- 28:09the work of the ministry. Verse 22.
- 28:12We'll pick up a little bit in, in our speed.
- 28:15And also you should take the fat of the ram and the fat tail and
- 28:18the fat that covers the entrails, the fatty lobe
- 28:20attached to the liver and two kidneys and the fat on them and
- 28:24the right thigh. For it is a ram of consecration.
- 28:27One loaf of bread, one cake made with oil, one wafer from the
- 28:30basket of the unleavened bread that is before the Lord.
- 28:34And you shall put all these in the hands of Aaron and in the
- 28:37hands of his sons, and you shall wave them as a wave offering
- 28:41before the Lord. You shall receive them back from
- 28:43their hands and burn them on the altar as a burnt offering, as a
- 28:47sweet aroma before the Lord. It is an offering made by fire
- 28:52to the Lord. So now there's this beautiful
- 28:55wave offering where they bring it before the Lord in worship.
- 28:59Everyone would see it to sacrifice them as another sweet
- 29:03offering. Verse 26 Now is interesting.
- 29:05Then you shall take the breast of the ram of Aaron's
- 29:08consecration and wave it as a wave offering before the Lord,
- 29:11and it shall be your portion. So part of the sacrifice was
- 29:15reserved for the priests, the breast part.
- 29:18And from the ram of the consecration.
- 29:20Verse 27. You shall sanctify the breast of
- 29:23the wave heave of the wave offering which is waived, and
- 29:26the thigh of the heave offering which is raised.
- 29:29And that is for Aaron, and that's for which is his son for,
- 29:32and that which is for his sons. Verse 28 And it shall be from
- 29:37for from the children of Israel, for Aaron and his sons, by a
- 29:40statute forever. For it is a heave offering.
- 29:43And it shall be a heave offering from the children of Israel,
- 29:46from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, that is, their
- 29:50heave offering before the Lord and the holy garments.
- 29:55Verse 29 of Aaron shall be his sons after him, to be anointed
- 29:58in them and to be consecrated in them.
- 30:01The Son who becomes priest in his place shall put them on for
- 30:03seven days, and when he enters the Tabernacle of meeting to
- 30:07minister in the holy place, verse 31.
- 30:09You shall take the ram of the consecration and boil its flesh
- 30:13in the holy place. Then Aaron and his son shall eat
- 30:17the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket by
- 30:20the door of the Tabernacle of the meeting.
- 30:22They shall eat those things with which the atonement was made to
- 30:26consecrate and sanctify them. But a stranger shall not eat
- 30:29them because they are holy. And if any of the flesh of the
- 30:33consecration offerings or of the bread remains until the morning,
- 30:37burn the remainder with fire. It shall not be eaten because it
- 30:41is holy. Thus you shall do to Aaron and
- 30:44his sons, according to all that I've commanded you, 7 days.
- 30:48You shall consecrate them, for you shall offer a bowl.
- 30:51Every day is a sin offering for atonement.
- 30:53You shall cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it, and
- 30:56you shall anoint it to sanctify it.
- 30:58Seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and
- 31:01sanctify it, and the altar shall be most holy.
- 31:04Whatever the touches, the altar must be holy.
- 31:09So some of the sacrifice was to be kept to feed the priests.
- 31:14In verse 33 it says you shall eat those things which the
- 31:17atonement was made and since their role and their
- 31:22responsibility collectively, not just Aaron or not just his sons,
- 31:27but collectively their role was to minister to the people.
- 31:32They lived from the ministry of the people.
- 31:36I mean, where are these? Where are these animals coming
- 31:38from? The people they would bring them
- 31:41as their sacrificial offerings to the Lord through the priests
- 31:46to be used for these ceremonies and for the offerings throughout
- 31:50the year. The word atonement is used in
- 31:53verse 33. You might want to market to
- 31:56consecrate sanctify them. These things which the atonement
- 32:00was made. It's the Hebrew word kafar
- 32:03kafar. It means covering.
- 32:05It wasn't a permanent removal of sin.
- 32:06It was a covering every year on the high, on the Day of
- 32:09Atonement, the high priesthood go in offering the final
- 32:13covering for the year to cover the sins of the people.
- 32:15All these were just coverings. It was the same word that's used
- 32:18back in Genesis chapter 6, the covering outside of the ark.
- 32:22It's the same word that was used in Genesis 32 with Jacob trying
- 32:26to smooth things over with Esau. But here it's used in
- 32:30relationship of the covering of sin.
- 32:34And it was through this sacrificial system that the sins
- 32:37of the people, although never really taken away, they were
- 32:42covered by the blood of animals. So that when God looked at
- 32:46someone that was in a covenant relationship with him, he saw
- 32:50the blood covering their sins. Today he sees the blood of Jesus
- 32:56in your life covering your sins. You don't need to keep bringing
- 33:00them back up or beating yourself up over them or living in
- 33:04regret. The Lord God has taken care of
- 33:08your sin issue and you can walk in the newness of life.
- 33:12He didn't just cover it, He removed their sins.
- 33:15You don't need to wait year after year after year.
- 33:18We don't have these bloody ceremonies anymore because in
- 33:21you, you have the Holy Spirit as a witness to the living Christ.
- 33:26God lives and dwells in you. The Bible says now we are the
- 33:31temple of the Holy Spirit. You not only have an external
- 33:35reminder when you read the Scriptures, when you think of
- 33:37the cross, you not only have all these external reminders, but
- 33:40you have an internal reminder of the finished work of the cross.
- 33:45And so when the enemy comes as the accuser of the brethren, you
- 33:48can resist the devil and what will happen, He will flee from
- 33:51you. You can resist him, the
- 33:54strongest, most effective word in your vocabulary to use when
- 33:58the enemy comes knocking or when you're accusing yourself or
- 34:02under the weight of condemnation.
- 34:03You can just simply say this no. You can say no to temptation of
- 34:08any kind, including the temptation to sin by undermining
- 34:13the finished work of Jesus Christ, even in your own life,
- 34:17and living in the forgiveness that is yours by faith.
- 34:23That's what we're learning as we're studying through
- 34:25Galatians. We'll also learn it in
- 34:26Ephesians, and we'll be reminded of it in Philippians, and then
- 34:29we'll learn about the supremacy of Christ in Colossians, the
- 34:33power of the blood of Jesus. They're getting a picture of it.
- 34:36Their faith in the Old Covenant was to be as strong as our faith
- 34:40in the New Covenant. They saw things by picture and
- 34:43type. We have the whole picture, the
- 34:46faith Jude said once and for all, delivered to the Saints.
- 34:50We have it and we can walk forward in power.
- 34:55Notice in verse 34, the daily sacrifice.
- 34:58This was seven days. This ceremony, the practice of
- 35:01the daily sacrifices would continue on even into the New
- 35:05Testament. The Jews would continue the
- 35:07sacrificial system. As they were learning about
- 35:10grace, they were learning. That's the whole battle that
- 35:13Paul the apostle is battling the Old Testament, the Jewish
- 35:16believers and wanting to cling to the law and this sacrifices.
- 35:20We go morning and evening, morning and evening, continual
- 35:24continually over and over again. Notice verse 38.
- 35:28It says now this is what you shall offer on the altar, 2
- 35:31lambs of the first year, day by day continually. 1 lamb you
- 35:36shall offer in the morning and the other you shall offer at
- 35:39twilight or in the evening. Mark that verse 39.
- 35:42That's what we'll close today in a moment.
- 35:44You're to offer in the morning, offer at night, daily,
- 35:48continually. Verse 40 with the 1 lamb shall
- 35:52be 110th of an efall of flour mixed with 1/4 of a hen of
- 35:55pressed oil. 1/4 of a hen of wine is a drink offering.
- 35:59The other lamb you shall offer at twilight.
- 36:01You shall offer it with grain offering and drink offering as
- 36:04in the morning for a sweet aroma and offering made by fire to the
- 36:08Lord. These are what the priest would
- 36:10continually do over and over again every morning, every
- 36:14night, every morning, every night.
- 36:16Notice verse 42. This shall be a continual burnt
- 36:21offering throughout your generations at the door of the
- 36:23Tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, while I will meet you to
- 36:27speak with you, and there I will meet with the children of
- 36:30Israel, and the Tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory.
- 36:34So I will sanctify the Tabernacle, meaning of I will
- 36:38sanctify the Tabernacle of meeting and the altar, and I
- 36:41also sanctify both Aaron and his sons to minister to me as
- 36:44priests. I will dwell among the children
- 36:47of Israel and will be their God, and they shall know that I am
- 36:50the Lord their God who brought them up out of the land of
- 36:53Egypt, that I might dwell among them.
- 36:54I am the Lord their God. It's been a while, but you
- 36:58remember at the beginning when God enlists Moses and takes them
- 37:03off away from the wilderness and sends them to Egypt, he says
- 37:06I've heard their cries. I've heard their cries.
- 37:10I was listening to another pastor this week in my DeVos and
- 37:14just got my earbuds in, just in a stationary place, receiving
- 37:17the word, and he was reminding me of how desperate their
- 37:21situation was. There was no hope for them.
- 37:25None. They were never going to get out
- 37:27of slavery. They were never going to leave.
- 37:30They were never going to have freedom.
- 37:33They were never going to experience the deepest desires
- 37:36of their hearts. For generations they lived.
- 37:40They were born, they lived, and they died as Egyptian slaves.
- 37:45And yet the cry of their heart went out every day to those that
- 37:48still had hope. Because you know as well as I do
- 37:52when situations keep going on and they're harder and harder,
- 37:55What is lost? Hope.
- 37:57We lose hope. The enemy's just going right
- 38:00after hope it's never going to change, never going to change,
- 38:04never going to change. And what happens?
- 38:05You hear that and then you see it.
- 38:08You wake up and it hasn't changed.
- 38:10You wake up, it hasn't changed. I mean, how many days do you
- 38:13need that? Do you need that 30 days, 60
- 38:16days, 90 days? Do you need that 10 years, 12
- 38:19years where you're you're looking at your life
- 38:21circumstances and you're wondering.
- 38:23And often the way this works is you have this deep prayer
- 38:26request, this deep desire. You want to see God do
- 38:28something. And you can even read the
- 38:30scripture. You're like, man, this is it's
- 38:31from the Lord. This is absolutely his will, but
- 38:34it's not happening. And if you're not careful, you
- 38:38lose hope. It is go the enemy's just going
- 38:41right after your hope. But then you might be
- 38:43cooperating. You can hear it with the kind of
- 38:46language that we use. It will never happen.
- 38:50Well, it doesn't sound like God. I see a lot of things that God
- 38:53we thought was never that he made happen.
- 38:56Oh, it's impossible. That doesn't sound like the
- 38:58whole story. That's only half the story.
- 39:01Because what things are impossible with man or what
- 39:04possible with God? And so you're crying out and
- 39:07you're crying out, you're crying out and then instantly
- 39:10deliverance comes. And this is all given to a
- 39:14nation that is been shocked with the grace of God.
- 39:20They've heard the generational stories.
- 39:22They even have their own testimony of living and out,
- 39:24however old they are, from children being born into slavery
- 39:28to the oldest of great, great grandfathers.
- 39:31They know the story. They've lived it out.
- 39:34But here they are out of Egypt, delivered free, and then being
- 39:39given all these gifts from God. Hey, I want you to know these
- 39:42men. They're for you.
- 39:43I want you to know all these animals that they're for you.
- 39:46You're going to offer them to me, but you're going to enjoy
- 39:48them. You know, these men that they're
- 39:50serving, they're, they're special.
- 39:52So make sure you recognize them. Make sure you see them for who
- 39:55they are, their sons, their families.
- 39:57Very important. I want you to know that every
- 40:00time you walk by the Tabernacle, it's going to be bloody.
- 40:03Why? Because there's coming one
- 40:04that's going to shed his blood once for all.
- 40:06You're not going to get away from it.
- 40:08There's no way around it. All throughout the area, the
- 40:11blood has been shed. The animals are there, the ashes
- 40:14of what's burned, those that are outside of the camp, all
- 40:17pointing to the coming of Messiah.
- 40:21And the restoration and now you see this throughout the Bible of
- 40:24the hope of Israel, because the hope of Israel is not a feeling.
- 40:30The hope of Israel is a person who fulfills all our desires,
- 40:35who gave himself for you and for me.
- 40:38And how do we stay in a place of hope?
- 40:40I believe the pattern of the sacrifices are very important.
- 40:44I hope you marked it. It says there in verse 39, offer
- 40:49in the morning, offer it at twilight or at night.
- 40:53The rhythm of your life needs to be this church, and I hope it is
- 40:58and I hope you continue to grow in this area of your spiritual
- 41:02life. But the morning and the evening
- 41:05sacrifices are so needful for the world in which we live.
- 41:08And you go, wait a minute, pastor, are you saying I should
- 41:10have some goats and chickens in my backyard and offer them to
- 41:13the Lord every morning and everything?
- 41:15No, no, no, you'll go to jail for that.
- 41:16Don't do that. And then you would be
- 41:18undermining the finished work of Christ.
- 41:20That's not what he's asking for you.
- 41:22But think about, think about how how challenging the world is,
- 41:25which we we live in, how important it is to start your
- 41:28day with the Lord. So important to start your day
- 41:34with the Lord. It is worth, you know, I, I used
- 41:38to do this. I don't do it very often
- 41:39anymore, but I used to do this. I would set my alarm and then
- 41:43set up all these different snoozes.
- 41:44And you know what I was planning?
- 41:47I was planning more sleep. I was planning more sleep.
- 41:52And if I have the ability to plan more sleep, you know what I
- 41:55can do? I can plan less sleep.
- 41:58I can plan to meet the Lord in the morning.
- 42:00I go to bed a little bit early, get up as a sacrifice to be in
- 42:04the word, to be in prayer, to have my morning devotion, to
- 42:08sing a song, to maybe have someone sing songs in my life as
- 42:12I'm brushing my teeth or getting ready where I have the word of
- 42:14God saturating me. It starts out very strong.
- 42:17And then the evening, well, you know, the evening, like what did
- 42:22I pick up along the way today? You know, what did I have to
- 42:25deal with? What kind of what part of my
- 42:26flush came out what whatever. You know how I need to end my
- 42:29day in a place of sacrifice? I need to do the same thing.
- 42:33I need to get ready for the day and then I need to get ready for
- 42:36dreams. I need to like make sure I'm not
- 42:38watching some horror movie before I go to bed or some bad
- 42:41news. You know it's the end of the
- 42:43day. Let me catch up on all the bad
- 42:45news around the world. No, no, seek the Lord in the
- 42:50morning and the evening. If we can plan, and we do for so
- 42:54many other things, then friends, we can do this and see the
- 42:57benefits of seeking the Lord. I mean, even today you could set
- 43:03you, you, you are investing in Wednesdays.
- 43:05You're already there. But you know, you could be
- 43:07ripped off on your way home just by what's on your radio.
- 43:12You know, it could be, it could be a didn't benign.
- 43:13I'm not even talking about sin or anything.
- 43:14Just music that will take your mind off of the things of the
- 43:18Lord. It'd be better not have any
- 43:20music and just talk to the Lord or talk to your spot.
- 43:22Just talk to the Lord on the way home.
- 43:23What do you think and what's going on?
- 43:25And what do you think? What how the Lord speak to you
- 43:27and they know their spots. Oh no, the Lord didn't speak to
- 43:30me. And you're like, were you
- 43:31listening? And it becomes, well, let me
- 43:33pray for you because the Lord was speaking his word.
- 43:37I was that that sacrifice. You know you can you look, the
- 43:42pattern of the morning and evening sacrifices in our lives
- 43:48will lead to a pattern of continual devotion and sacrifice
- 43:52and service. We need that pattern or the new
- 43:56word today is that rhythm. I know time is tough and I know
- 44:00sleep is needed. I know the kids, they get cranky
- 44:04when they're out on a Wednesday. I know that.
- 44:07But you know, for every moment that you minister to a cranky
- 44:11kid, listen, they receive the word of God tonight in some way.
- 44:16Your kids and I know, I know they're not going to be happy
- 44:20about it. They're they're just going to be
- 44:21all flustered because they have a sleep pattern.
- 44:25But you're teaching them, no, no, no, my sleep pattern is
- 44:27around the Lord, not just some book I read or some Instagram
- 44:31story or TikTok. Like on this day, we're
- 44:34dedicated to the Lord. On these other days, I sing to
- 44:38my son or sing to my daughter before we we do something that's
- 44:42going to get their eyes on the Lord.
- 44:43For our kids, many of the years was Adventures and Odyssey and
- 44:46we were an Adventures and Odyssey family listening to
- 44:49those those over and over and over, all these moral lessons
- 44:55that my kids would fall asleep with or music or worship music.
- 44:59It's OK. I know it's challenging, but
- 45:00your kids, they're learning something and you're teaching it
- 45:03to them. You're teaching them the rhythm
- 45:07that surrounds the Lord. And I'm grateful for that.
- 45:11God will bless that. He says back in verse 43, and we
- 45:15got to go. This is where I'm going to meet
- 45:18the children of Israel and remember the Tabernacle.
- 45:21It's going to be sanctified by my glory.
- 45:24The blood just pointing to the glory.
- 45:26That's all the blood pointing to the glory.
- 45:30I'm going to set it apart. I'm going to do that work.
- 45:34God says I'm going to consecrate.
- 45:35It's not you. I'm going to consecrate that
- 45:38place. I'm going to consecrate those
- 45:40priests, and I'm going to consecrate the people.
- 45:42And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and they
- 45:45will know that I am the Lord their God that brought them out
- 45:49and delivered them. This true story has been
- 45:53repeated over and over and over again of the delivering power of
- 45:56God. You have a testimony of the
- 46:01delivering power of God. Keep repeating it and keep
- 46:03rehearsing it for us. We don't look back to the
- 46:07Exodus, do we? We look back to the cross.
- 46:10That's our point of deliverance. That's what changed our lives
- 46:13completely. And God meets us in the morning,
- 46:17in the evening, in the afternoon, on your lunch break,
- 46:21even if it's 5 minutes, giving yourself to the Lord,
- 46:25reorienting yourself, taking a little walk.
- 46:28Wait, I don't know how much time.
- 46:29Well, then just walk around the building and just say, Lord, I
- 46:34meet you here. I am with you, are with me, and
- 46:37I'm with you. And maybe the Lord would have
- 46:41you. Some of you have an ear problem.
- 46:44You just need to pull on your ear.
- 46:46I need help with my ears, Lord. Some of you might have a hand
- 46:50problem, say, oh Lord, sanctify my hands, I want to be faithful.
- 46:56Some of you might have a balance problem, may have a big toe
- 46:59where your feet are leading you, and just like, no, I want to run
- 47:01in the ways of your commandments, Lord.
- 47:06Some of you might have a mouth problem that's not included in
- 47:08this, but you can offer it to the Lord.
- 47:13James talks about that. We have two ears and one mouth.
- 47:17The ratio is on purpose, for the Holy Spirit will just reign us
- 47:22in and use our lips and our bodies, a sacrifice unto the
- 47:26Lord. Thank you God for Aaron and his
- 47:28faithfulness and his sons. I know not all of his sons made
- 47:33wise decisions, and that's just the facts.
- 47:39We don't always make wise decisions ourselves.
- 47:43But Lord, you're a forgiver. Your anointing is for perpetual.
- 47:49Your calling, the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable
- 47:52in the new covenant. And it's our desire right now
- 47:57that you might move upon us and encourage us morning and
- 47:59evening, morning and evening, morning and evening.
- 48:01And I thank you God, and I commend the men and women with
- 48:04us tonight that even when the rhythm of their children is is
- 48:08changed for a night, that you would bless them and honor them.
- 48:12And perhaps even tonight, their daughter, their son would just
- 48:15go with the program because they don't understand yet.
- 48:18They're kind of like in the beginning stages.
- 48:20They don't understand, but they will.
- 48:22And they'll have this memory of the faithfulness of their
- 48:25parents, the faithfulness of their grandmother, grandfather
- 48:28pouring into them, blessing them.
- 48:31If you're here tonight, you've never given your life to Jesus
- 48:34Christ. I want to invite you to do that
- 48:35right now. Just stand where you are.
- 48:37I want to pray with you. You say that I need to be born
- 48:39again. I want to pray with you and I
- 48:42want to help you confess your sins before God and your faith
- 48:48confess your faith in God, believing in God, confessing
- 48:51with your mouth and believing in God that God raised him from the
- 48:54dead. Anyone here among us, you guys
- 49:01out online or on the on the Internet, you know, watching all
- 49:05that wherever you're at radio, the Holy Spirit sees you and God
- 49:08just affirms that desire in your heart right now.
- 49:11You could say God forgive me. I ask you to change my life and
- 49:16I believe you sent Jesus to live for me and die for me and I want
- 49:21to follow you all the days of my life and God will honor that.
- 49:24And so if you're on on our website, you can go to the how
- 49:29to know God, I think is the phrase or the gross section.
- 49:31And all our information about following Jesus is there.
- 49:34And if you're here, then the pastors will be up here today to
- 49:38speak to you. But let's all stand together.
- 49:42Let me tell you a story, OK? Last week I was the last week I
- 49:46was here I was I've the Bible study was in Galatians.
- 49:52It might have been communion. I don't remember now and I was
- 49:57coming up on time like I am now I'm way over time.
- 49:59So you guys all need to go get your kids, but I'm already over.
- 50:02So what, what am I going to do? And this is an important story
- 50:07because the Lord convicted me after 1 of this.
- 50:10I didn't give an invitation to any service and just trust the
- 50:14Lord. I'm and I'm I was trusting the
- 50:15Lord. It's fine.
- 50:16And a brother, a man came up and he came up and said, well, you
- 50:19didn't ask anybody if they want to be saved.
- 50:21And I said, no, I didn't. Do you want to be saved?
- 50:27And he says yes. And I prayed with him right
- 50:30here. It's a miracle story.
- 50:33Maybe one day we'll have him up and he can share it with you.
- 50:36Miracle. And just convicted my heart that
- 50:40I don't feel like guilt ridden because the Holy Spirit's
- 50:43already moving in his life. But I want to plan ahead so that
- 50:48anytime I'm here, I give you an invitation because it was like,
- 50:52you know, I didn't have 3000 people do it like Peter.
- 50:54But one isn't, isn't 1 enough. Hey, what must I do to be saved?
- 50:58Man? I was just going to come back
- 51:00next week, he said. But his wife said, oh, no, we're
- 51:02going up right now. This is a moment of God's
- 51:06faithfulness. And so I just want to share that
- 51:09with you that even even men like me, we make mistakes or even
- 51:13not. It's not even a mistake in the
- 51:15sense that I was doing what God called me to do.
- 51:17But God is so gracious and he covers all those areas so that a
- 51:23man will come up and look at me. And I went home.
- 51:25I was telling Marie about it. She says, I know then and
- 51:27started telling me the story ministering.
- 51:30It's a it's a beautiful story. And you can get those stories
- 51:33too. If you step into people's lives,
- 51:35you just do what God called you to do.
- 51:37If you're super personable, then be super personal.
- 51:40Are you super private? Be super private.
- 51:42Just be who God's called you to be, OK?
- 51:44Be the church and pray for us this weekend.
- 51:46So we'll be back Friday. It's going to be epic.
- 51:49And any men here, any man here that hasn't signed up yet, we
- 51:52already signed you up with your retina.
- 51:54That's our new technology. It's kind of scary to say that,
- 51:58but we want you to be here. So be here, sign up, show up,
- 52:02let the Lord do a great work. God uses these conferences.
- 52:05Amen. We pray that you've been
