- 0:01Speaker 1: Here we go, Joe July employment figures populating. Buckle up
- 0:06Speaker 1: on this one minus minus twenty three thousand on non
- 0:11Speaker 1: farm payrels. I can hear the bott meals falling right now,
- 0:15Speaker 1: minus twenty three thousand. That would be the second worst
- 0:19Speaker 1: number of the year outside of the only other negative number,
- 0:22Speaker 1: minus one fifty six in February.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Hi again everyone, it's five o'clock in the east and unexpected,
- 0:32Speaker 2: very disappointing jobs report out this morning showing a slump
- 0:36Speaker 2: in the job market. Meanwhile, Americans are struggling to make
- 0:39Speaker 2: ends meet with the high price of gas and groceries.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Even Trump voters are now publicly disillusioned with what they're seeing.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Do you feel like life is affordable in general right now?
- 0:50Speaker 3: Grocery it is not. I'm on a fixed income. If
- 0:57Speaker 3: we have doctor's appointments, maybe we'll have to do with
- 1:00Speaker 3: something else. Food is It's getting outrageous with.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Going up, gas going up, groceries going up.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Two people struggling to live in a house and we're
- 1:11Speaker 5: barely scraping by.
- 1:12Speaker 3: It comes to me like it's the big, big hotshots,
- 1:17Speaker 3: the big corporations, the big.
- 1:21Speaker 2: The billionaires are all getting the money and we're just
- 1:24Speaker 2: being stuck under one hundred days out from the midterm
- 1:31Speaker 2: elections in November, and Donald Trump is struggling mightily on
- 1:34Speaker 2: his central promise to the country and especially his voters,
- 1:38Speaker 2: that he would deliver better than any Democrat on affordability
- 1:42Speaker 2: and creating a strong economy. When asked about his party's
- 1:46Speaker 2: prospects in November, Trump surprisingly acknowledged voters growing anger, but
- 1:52Speaker 2: as to who voters should direct that anger at, be
- 1:56Speaker 2: kind to me. M's not his fault. There's a little
- 1:59Speaker 2: bit of his sit down interview with punch Bowl News.
- 2:03Speaker 3: If I don't run, will those people go out and vote?
- 2:08Speaker 3: And that's the one thing I can tell I'm going
- 2:09Speaker 3: to ask him to A lot of them are very angry,
- 2:14Speaker 3: and Republicans, to be honest with you, I don't know.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I mean, they're angry a Republicans, but they're not why
- 2:21Speaker 3: they're not angry at me, but they are angry at Republicans.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I don't know. Why would they be angry at Volgans.
- 2:29Speaker 2: I mean, they're not mad at me, just the Republicans
- 2:33Speaker 2: over there who are so independent from me. It's nonsensical.
- 2:38Speaker 2: And the polls tell a very different story. Donald Trump
- 2:41Speaker 2: is currently seeing his approval rating hit all time historic
- 2:44Speaker 2: lows for him and for any president. The latest Quinnipiac
- 2:48Speaker 2: pole finds only thirty two percent of all Americans approve
- 2:51Speaker 2: of the job Donald Trump is doing as president. A
- 2:54Speaker 2: majority of voters don't believe that Trump is focused on
- 2:57Speaker 2: the problems facing Americans. New reports and Politico finds that
- 3:01Speaker 2: Trump is essentially hanging Republicans out to dry politically when
- 3:06Speaker 2: it comes to his deeply unpopular policies, especially the war
- 3:10Speaker 2: with Iran. Quote. The regular messaging guidance the White House
- 3:13Speaker 2: and other parts of the administration provided to Republicans at
- 3:17Speaker 2: the start of the war has dwindled to almost no
- 3:19Speaker 2: communication at all in recent weeks on how to talk
- 3:23Speaker 2: to voters about Iran. That's according to six people with
- 3:26Speaker 2: direct knowledge of the matter who spoke anonymously. Briefings on
- 3:30Speaker 2: campaign trail guidance are scarce and tone deaf. According to
- 3:34Speaker 2: multiple House Republicans, a tone deaf response from the Trump
- 3:38Speaker 2: administration to americans struggles and concerns is where we begin
- 3:43Speaker 2: the hour. Some of our favorite experts in fronts tucknw's
- 3:46Speaker 2: senior political columnist and national affairs analyst, John Hollman's back,
- 3:50Speaker 2: also joining US political analyst and host of the Bulwark podcast.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Tim Miller is back and the host of Politics Nation,
- 3:56Speaker 2: the president of the National Action Network, the reverendow Sharp,
- 4:00Speaker 2: and it is here Tim, I I kind of love
- 4:06Speaker 2: I don't even know if it's cognitive dissonance. That might
- 4:09Speaker 2: seem like too big of an assumption to make about
- 4:14Speaker 2: his cognitive capacity, but I love the I don't know
- 4:18Speaker 2: why they're mad at Republicans. They're off here doing whatever
- 4:21Speaker 2: they do when they're literally crying as they fall in
- 4:24Speaker 2: line behind Donald Trump on the Senate floor today. Yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 2: it is.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Who are the people that he's talking to also, take
- 4:34Speaker 4: on the mar A Lago pool deck, they're mad at
- 4:37Speaker 4: Republicans about him on as.
- 4:40Speaker 2: The Omelet bar. Yeah, the people that he sees like
- 4:44Speaker 2: while he's putting.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yeah, you're seeing focus groups from the Texas pri I
- 4:49Speaker 4: just this is like just a classic Trump only megalomania story. Honestly,
- 4:55Speaker 4: it's this is he doesn't care about these people. He
- 4:59Speaker 4: doesn't really care what the ne terms. In a different interview, yes,
- 5:01Speaker 4: I believe it was Fox yesterday. They were kind of
- 5:04Speaker 4: asking him a similar line of questioning about whether he's
- 5:06Speaker 4: going to be out there during the midterms. He's like,
- 5:07Speaker 4: I'm out here now in Nevada, right, I don't have
- 5:09Speaker 4: to be it seems like a waste of my time.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:12Speaker 4: He was very dismissive about this campaign event, which was
- 5:17Speaker 4: a disaster in its own right in Nevada yesterday, and
- 5:21Speaker 4: he just he's moved like he doesn't care about them,
- 5:24Speaker 4: And it's an easy story to tell Himself's comforting story
- 5:27Speaker 4: to tell himself. The people still like him. They're mad
- 5:29Speaker 4: at these other amorphous Republicans. He can't answer Jake's follow
- 5:32Speaker 4: up question because like, what would even the substance of
- 5:36Speaker 4: answer be. I guess maybe that they're not giving him
- 5:39Speaker 4: what they want on the Save Act. I'm just like
- 5:41Speaker 4: trying to put myself in his warped brain, which is
- 5:43Speaker 4: very challenging. But you know, the Republicans are doing everything
- 5:46Speaker 4: they want besides the Save Act. I guess.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Halman, let me read you this Axios reporting. The headline
- 5:56Speaker 2: is great. Behind the curtain Trump's quicksand but they just
- 6:00Speaker 2: describe is like, I don't want to insult van of White,
- 6:02Speaker 2: but it makes him sound like like someone just sort
- 6:05Speaker 2: of pointing to the letters top congressional Republicans tell us
- 6:09Speaker 2: Trump's unpopularity points toward the likely loss of the House
- 6:12Speaker 2: and perps the Senate. But an eighty year old man
- 6:14Speaker 2: who made the greatest comeback in American political history appears
- 6:17Speaker 2: too proud, too stubborn, and undisciplined to change, Republicans privately
- 6:21Speaker 2: admit so. Rather than face the issues, Trump often pivots
- 6:24Speaker 2: to showing visitors renderings of the new White House ballroom
- 6:28Speaker 2: or a model of the planned triumphal arch. He showcases
- 6:31Speaker 2: his new air Force One, touts his plans for Dullest
- 6:35Speaker 2: and obsesses about the helipad being built on the celtlne.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I missed that he was. He was tearing a part
- 6:42Speaker 2: Dullest Airport. Is that part of his vanity tour? Has
- 6:45Speaker 2: he ever even landed there? I missed that. I miss that.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, he's doing there, doing this big runo at Dullest. Now, Nicole,
- 6:54Speaker 5: I think it's fair to say that's one of the
- 6:56Speaker 5: few things that anybody who's ever flown through Dulles, you know,
- 6:59Speaker 5: It's one of the few things that Will Trump has
- 7:00Speaker 5: proposed that I can get behind. I'm not sure it's
- 7:02Speaker 5: going to be done well. Or it's going to be
- 7:04Speaker 5: worth the money that they're going to spend on it.
- 7:06Speaker 5: But you know, those those those moving buses that take
- 7:08Speaker 5: you from the interimal the outem those are horrible. And
- 7:11Speaker 5: it was one of the things that Trump focused on.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I just wanted to.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Say, Trump laws and like wants to fix it.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Trump Trump just you know, Trump just wants to leave
- 7:23Speaker 5: as many possible imprints as possible on Washington, d C,
- 7:27Speaker 5: in the surrounding environment, in the hope that when the
- 7:30Speaker 5: Democrats get back into power next and they do the
- 7:34Speaker 5: systematic cleanup where they metaphorically and literally rip Trump's name
- 7:38Speaker 5: off of everything that it's been attached to and tear
- 7:41Speaker 5: down every ridiculous thing that he's every monument he's erected
- 7:44Speaker 5: to himself. He's trying to figure out some way maybe
- 7:46Speaker 5: there'll be a small plaque at Dullest that will still
- 7:49Speaker 5: have his name on it. And he's thinking, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 5: I got I gotta just I gotta lay my bets everywhere, right,
- 7:54Speaker 5: because I understand what's coming. I did want to say,
- 7:57Speaker 5: it's been a little while since I've been on television
- 7:59Speaker 5: with Tim Miller. I thought, for a moment, I wanted
- 8:01Speaker 5: to do I want to adorse him as uh as
- 8:04Speaker 5: you know, was to endorse my friend Michael Wattley for
- 8:06Speaker 5: for being uh for congress or governor or whatever it
- 8:09Speaker 5: is that Tim's running for.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Because but.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Would like to discuss That's right, that's but I'm going
- 8:20Speaker 5: to make the same mistake four or five times over
- 8:21Speaker 5: the course of the of the course of the show
- 8:23Speaker 5: where I'm going to have for Heeard it's him as
- 8:24Speaker 5: Michael Whatley, because you know, my cognitive level has declined
- 8:28Speaker 5: rather rapidly, and I'm about to take another one of
- 8:30Speaker 5: those camera man television tests. What did you want to
- 8:32Speaker 5: talk about, Nicole, certainly not Dullas Airport?
- 8:36Speaker 2: Well, no, I mean I missed Dullas Airport in his
- 8:39Speaker 2: you know, rent out obsession. I mean, I I guess
- 8:41Speaker 2: what's challenging at this point is that the news is
- 8:47Speaker 2: so deadly serious. Bill Cassidy looked tormented. It looked like
- 8:51Speaker 2: you could see him ripping his own soul out of
- 8:53Speaker 2: his chest as he stood there and said, Bill Barr
- 8:56Speaker 2: told me that that, you know, I don't know, I
- 8:59Speaker 2: don't even know what he was saying. Bill var said
- 9:01Speaker 2: that this was the best we could do. I guess
- 9:03Speaker 2: and that this is the time of Trump, and Trump
- 9:05Speaker 2: is focused on such inane, idiotic, superficial and stupid stuff,
- 9:10Speaker 2: and it's just a surreal it's a surreal attempt to
- 9:14Speaker 2: cover the real time destruction of the rule of law,
- 9:17Speaker 2: which Republicans are not just looking the other way on
- 9:20Speaker 2: and allowing to happen, but helping happen. I had two
- 9:24Speaker 2: federal judges on yesterday talking about the death threats against
- 9:27Speaker 2: their kids and spouses. One was Esther Salis, so I
- 9:31Speaker 2: think we all know at this point. The other was
- 9:33Speaker 2: Judge Jack McConnell. And then there's this, I guess interest
- 9:38Speaker 2: in covering the stupid crap Trump says in interviews and
- 9:42Speaker 2: the total detachment from the country that he runs. So
- 9:45Speaker 2: you can go any which way you want with it.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Holman, Well, I'd like to focus on two things, one
- 9:54Speaker 5: of which was in that Acxios report where they said
- 9:56Speaker 5: that Congression Republicans had decided that Trump was is too stubborn,
- 10:02Speaker 5: too proud, and too indisciplined to help them in the
- 10:08Speaker 5: midterm elections. Basically that was those are the three words
- 10:10Speaker 5: that were used. That is the problem with that is
- 10:13Speaker 5: that leaves out the most important thing and the thing
- 10:16Speaker 5: that apparently still virtually know Capitol Hill Republicans understand, which
- 10:21Speaker 5: is that those three things are all true about Donald Trump.
- 10:24Speaker 5: But the more important thing is that he does not
- 10:26Speaker 5: care about them. He does not give a crap about
- 10:31Speaker 5: his own party or about trying to help anybody on
- 10:34Speaker 5: Capitol Hill. He is already, it's evident from the commencies
- 10:37Speaker 5: making internalize the notion that Republicans are going to lose
- 10:39Speaker 5: the House and Senate. He's trying to already shift blame.
- 10:42Speaker 5: And that is the key element of this thing he's grasped.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Someone on Fox News said something that is actually also true,
- 10:49Speaker 5: which is that in years when Trump's name is not
- 10:52Speaker 5: in the ballot, Republicans in twenty eighteen, in twenty twenty two,
- 10:56Speaker 5: and now presumably in twenty twenty six, Republicans are not
- 10:58Speaker 5: going to turn out the numbers that they did when
- 11:01Speaker 5: his name has been on the ballot. He's now planting
- 11:03Speaker 5: that as an excuse for why Republicans are going to
- 11:08Speaker 5: lose the fall. He's going to say, they didn't do
- 11:09Speaker 5: what I told him to do. They didn't pass the
- 11:11Speaker 5: Save Act, they didn't get rid of the filibuster, and
- 11:14Speaker 5: the only thing that Republicans care about in the country
- 11:17Speaker 5: is me, and so hey, it's not my fault these Republicans.
- 11:21Speaker 5: I've lost control of the House and Senate and he's
- 11:23Speaker 5: just walked away from them in the same way he's
- 11:25Speaker 5: walked away from the American people.
