- 0:01Speaker 1: The sun is shining out a cloud in the sky.
- 0:05Speaker 1: We wouldn't know because we're so happy inside.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Some people on some skis, but we.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Would rather sit on down and talk some movies. We're
- 0:17Speaker 3: the evid indoorsmen. Come listen to our show. We're the
- 0:22Speaker 3: evident indoorsmen at home on the go. We're the evident Indoorsmen.
- 0:29Speaker 1: We hope you love its, so come on in and stay.
- 0:33Speaker 2: We'll do our best to make use my.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Indoors man.
- 0:40Speaker 2: What is happening? I'm Rob Lundquist tonight, and we are
- 0:45Speaker 2: the Evidendoorsman.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Everybody, Hi, how art thou?
- 0:52Speaker 2: That was good? That was good? Very good? Things are good?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Oh things are good? Okay, great? Great? Yeah, I almost
- 1:01Speaker 2: forgot to say. And I'm bukes for some reason, don't
- 1:04Speaker 2: know why. My prayer to shut up you goofball. So
- 1:08Speaker 2: this will probably go pretty well. It'll be a good one. Yeah.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I do have a great shirt on to show you
- 1:13Speaker 2: the shirt. No, I love it. It's all the old painters, yeah,
- 1:20Speaker 2: or artists. Yeah. But they that are named after the
- 1:23Speaker 2: teenage mutant ninja turtles. Yeah, by the way around, and
- 1:28Speaker 2: they have their their masks over their eyes, their appropriated
- 1:34Speaker 2: the appropriate Ben Dane YEA, isn't that fun? That's a
- 1:38Speaker 2: cute one. I like it. I like it too. April fools.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I think it's only okay, now, got you good? We're
- 1:48Speaker 2: recording this on April fools. Ariols. I know that's not true.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I know you like it. I do like it. Did
- 1:56Speaker 2: you do any April Fools thing today? My friend? You know,
- 2:01Speaker 2: my daughter had been threatening me with quite a few
- 2:04Speaker 2: April fools. Oh that's fun. And as I was helping
- 2:08Speaker 2: her go to sleep last night, she was like, I
- 2:12Speaker 2: think I'm going to cancel one of them. And I
- 2:14Speaker 2: was like, what was it. She was like, I was
- 2:16Speaker 2: gonna set my alarm for five thirty, and then I
- 2:20Speaker 2: was going to get your phone and I was going
- 2:22Speaker 2: to get Spotify and turn it up all the way
- 2:25Speaker 2: and then hide it in your room. And I said,
- 2:28Speaker 2: thank you.
- 2:29Speaker 4: For not to That's a good prank though, like I
- 2:33Speaker 4: was again someone else.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, she did scotch tape a few of the light fixtures,
- 2:41Speaker 2: so we couldn't do anything with that. That's great. And
- 2:48Speaker 2: then I got her, oh I when she was upstairs
- 2:54Speaker 2: getting ready, I put three very large mangos in her backpack,
- 3:01Speaker 2: so when she picked it up, She's like, what why,
- 3:05Speaker 2: And I was like, why is it so heavy? So
- 3:07Speaker 2: we went through and she saw the mangoes and her
- 3:09Speaker 2: face was priceless the best. It was shocked And then
- 3:14Speaker 2: you got me. You got me, and I love it
- 3:16Speaker 2: and I also hate it. I was pretty excited about it.
- 3:21Speaker 4: But mangoes too, that's a risky one. What if she
- 3:24Speaker 4: would have went to school with those that's like one
- 3:26Speaker 4: hundred dollars in mango.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I was not going to let her do that. I
- 3:32Speaker 2: was going to tell her. But yeah, and we got
- 3:37Speaker 2: those mangoes. I thought it was pretty good. You know,
- 3:39Speaker 2: it's not going to like ruin somebody's day. It was
- 3:41Speaker 2: just a silly one because I've gone over the top before. Yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 2: it's it's cooler.
- 3:48Speaker 5: To do it, not as I like the silly ones.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I'm a yeah, I'm with you.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Everyone should be able to be like I was pranked
- 3:56Speaker 4: and then giggle about it.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I don't know, man, if we could do that on
- 4:00Speaker 2: a nice time, right, there's no psychological you know, warfare
- 4:06Speaker 2: going on over here. Yeah, that'd be bad. I'm not
- 4:09Speaker 2: your real dad or something like. That's too much. Here's
- 4:14Speaker 2: the adoption papers. This was me. That'd be good, that'd
- 4:19Speaker 2: be good. I have to wait until she's a little
- 4:22Speaker 2: o'd laugh. Yeah, did you do anything? I can't imagine. No,
- 4:30Speaker 2: I didn't do anything. I kind of actually forgot until
- 4:33Speaker 2: like halfway through the day. Well, it was funny because
- 4:37Speaker 2: I sent you a thing that said, you know, Quentin
- 4:41Speaker 2: Tarantino is gonna finally release his last movie and Paul
- 4:46Speaker 2: Dana was set to star, and I was like, dude,
- 4:48Speaker 2: can you believe this way? This is all just a
- 4:50Speaker 2: PR stunt? And then you're like, dude, it's April First.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I was like, oh, but it was believable.
- 4:57Speaker 4: That was a good one by that because I was like, oh,
- 4:59Speaker 4: that would be pretty good PR move.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I was with you. I was with you. It's funny.
- 5:04Speaker 4: That made it seem like I was really on top
- 5:05Speaker 4: of it. But someone else told me about an April
- 5:08Speaker 4: Fool's joke at work that they just played right before
- 5:11Speaker 4: that happened.
- 5:12Speaker 2: So that was the only reason I was so on
- 5:13Speaker 2: top of it. You were all over, which is funny.
- 5:17Speaker 2: You immediately were just like April one. I was like,
- 5:19Speaker 2: a good call. One of the call one of the
- 5:22Speaker 2: team leads I work with.
- 5:23Speaker 4: She she sent an email out like first thing this morning,
- 5:26Speaker 4: that was like, starting today, everyone will be required to
- 5:30Speaker 4: record a two minute video of themselves every single day
- 5:33Speaker 4: talking about what they're going to work on, what they're
- 5:36Speaker 4: hoping to get done today, and a fun fact about themselves.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And people were not happy. Oh I bet, I bet
- 5:46Speaker 2: that's good. I was like, yeah, right, because they they're
- 5:51Speaker 2: a call center so they work remotely too, so she
- 5:55Speaker 2: kind of said like that was why hysterical. I was like, oh,
- 5:58Speaker 2: that's good. I would have hated you. I thought that
- 6:04Speaker 2: was fun. I thought that was a good fun time.
- 6:07Speaker 2: It was a good fun time. Yeah, you know, speaking
- 6:10Speaker 2: of good fun times. Yeah, have have you been watching
- 6:13Speaker 2: any fun good time movies? Yeah, this one is a
- 6:16Speaker 2: fun good time. I saw Zutopia too, you did. I
- 6:20Speaker 2: saw Zutopia as well, Hey, as well as well.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I really liked it. I thought it was really fun.
- 6:30Speaker 4: It was like, maybe not quite as charming as the
- 6:32Speaker 4: first one, but maybe just because we kind of knew
- 6:34Speaker 4: these folks, I don't know. Yeah, but he he Kwan
- 6:39Speaker 4: was in it, and.
- 6:40Speaker 2: He's just the best. He's the best of all time.
- 6:43Speaker 4: And I really, I really still enjoyed this. I think
- 6:47Speaker 4: that the world building of that world is so fun.
- 6:50Speaker 4: There's like so many places that can still go if
- 6:52Speaker 4: they want to go. I thought it was an interesting story.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I just I really.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Did like it a lot. I thought it was really fun.
- 6:58Speaker 4: I just feel like I won't probably you watch that
- 7:00Speaker 4: one for whatever reason, but.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I get that. But yeah, it was. It was great.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I really enjoyed you liked it in the theater at
- 7:07Speaker 2: the time. But yeah, that's I don't think that's we
- 7:09Speaker 2: haven't rewatched it yet. Is it on Disney Plus now?
- 7:12Speaker 4: I think so? Yeah, I think so that must have
- 7:14Speaker 4: been where I watched it, because I did watch it here,
- 7:16Speaker 4: so you know, super beautiful and like the animation is
- 7:20Speaker 4: great and super funny. Jason Bateman's always good. I really
- 7:24Speaker 4: liked that. Jennifer Goodwin h yeah, surprised that she never
- 7:28Speaker 4: got like bigger role. Yes, like Felix was around for
- 7:32Speaker 4: a minute and then I disappeared or something.
- 7:35Speaker 2: She was really big in that big love show and
- 7:39Speaker 2: then yeah, he's just not that into you. And and
- 7:42Speaker 2: I think she was in one of those network shows,
- 7:46Speaker 2: oh rim maybe one of those like haunted shows. Oh yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 2: you're probably right. But I was just like, yeah, I
- 7:57Speaker 2: felt like but I haven't seen her in a long time. Yeah,
- 8:00Speaker 2: and it's just been kind of those Utopia movies, which
- 8:03Speaker 2: is good. She's perfect in those.
- 8:05Speaker 4: She's awesome. She's just so funny. That's why I'm always
- 8:07Speaker 4: like I kind of expected her, but she's like our
- 8:10Speaker 4: ish age. So maybe she, you know, was having kiddos
- 8:13Speaker 4: her family or something like.
- 8:14Speaker 2: That, or and I'd imagine those voiceover gigs are pretty great,
- 8:19Speaker 2: very cushy, that's the life. Yeah. Yeah, but it was
- 8:22Speaker 2: really really fun. Is that what you were going to
- 8:24Speaker 2: talk about? It wasn't I was going to do one
- 8:28Speaker 2: that I know that you saw that. We're both excited
- 8:30Speaker 2: and we're going to do an episode on it. Oh yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 2: hit me, hit me. Went and had a date with
- 8:36Speaker 2: Kel's kids, went with with the folks, my folks, and
- 8:43Speaker 2: we went to the theater. We went and saw Project
- 8:45Speaker 2: hil Mary and I loved it so much. I've been
- 8:49Speaker 2: very excited to see it ever since I heard they
- 8:52Speaker 2: were adapting Andy Weird novel that we love. It didn't
- 8:56Speaker 2: disappoint and everybody had been telling me it's so good
- 8:59Speaker 2: and it's ninety whatever, just like my expectations are very high,
- 9:06Speaker 2: and it was great. Ryan Gosling is a treasure. We
- 9:08Speaker 2: love him so funny. He's able to hold our attention
- 9:12Speaker 2: the entire time. He's on screen by himself for a
- 9:15Speaker 2: majority of the film. Supporting cast isn't huge, but they
- 9:21Speaker 2: do a great job. It's funny, heartbreaking, inspiring. I thought
- 9:26Speaker 2: they did a great job staying true to the book
- 9:31Speaker 2: because I was really wondering if they were going to
- 9:33Speaker 2: end it the same way as the book, and I
- 9:35Speaker 2: was like, you have to write, but I was like, also,
- 9:39Speaker 2: how did they do that? So I was I was
- 9:43Speaker 2: very pleased by It's been a minute since I've read it,
- 9:47Speaker 2: so I don't know, like what the big changes were.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Kelsey threw one at me that I remembered and I
- 9:54Speaker 2: was like, oh, but yeah, they didn't really need that.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Yeah, there wasn't that many on A and quite a
- 10:01Speaker 4: few of them are are like, oh yeah, actually, I
- 10:05Speaker 4: don't mind the way you did that.
- 10:06Speaker 2: You know, like that makes sense because it's like, I mean,
- 10:09Speaker 2: it's a it's two hours thirty six minutes. I think
- 10:11Speaker 2: we saw yeah it we were in there for a while.
- 10:15Speaker 2: It didn't feel that long. But I was just like, yeah,
- 10:18Speaker 2: this was one forty five and now it's five o'clock
- 10:21Speaker 2: right now.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Apparently their first cut was like four hours, so wow, which.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I want to see very much, but I get sure,
- 10:28Speaker 2: I guess sure.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Well that's probably I can't wait to really nerd out
- 10:32Speaker 4: about that one at.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Some point, but for sure it's gonna be the best. Nice. Yeah, Yeah,
- 10:39Speaker 2: what have you been streaming?
- 10:41Speaker 4: I've been streaming I one that we've heard on this
- 10:44Speaker 4: podcast a number of times and we hadn't seen.
- 10:46Speaker 2: So I went out and watched it out cold. I
- 10:50Speaker 2: finally watched. You watched it just said that Nate. Nate
- 10:55Speaker 2: just said it on the last podcast. Yeah, was that
- 10:58Speaker 2: accepted that we just did?
- 10:59Speaker 4: Except yeah, yeah, I did have to rent it, like
- 11:03Speaker 4: it's not available to stream anywhere, but it was a
- 11:06Speaker 4: cheap rental. A pretty pretty fun movie honestly. Like it's
- 11:11Speaker 4: obviously it's from two thousand and one, so it's a
- 11:13Speaker 4: little dated there. It doesn't age great in a few spots,
- 11:18Speaker 4: but overall it's a pretty compelling movie. It's about like
- 11:23Speaker 4: ski mountain shenanigans with like some some young some youths
- 11:27Speaker 4: that are out there drinking and furnic cating and having
- 11:30Speaker 4: a great time.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but like the cast is crazy.
- 11:36Speaker 4: That David Denman from the Office is in it, Zach Galfanakis,
- 11:41Speaker 4: David Keckner, Thomas Lennon, that Jason London guy from Mall
- 11:46Speaker 4: Rats is that the other one?
- 11:47Speaker 1: I know?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, confused? Oh and Jason confused. Yes, I was like,
- 11:51Speaker 2: we referenced him the other day and something else. Leem
- 11:55Speaker 2: Majors is in it. Like there's just there's a ton
- 11:57Speaker 2: of people. The band just kind of fun and makes sense.
- 12:04Speaker 4: But yeah, it's it's a silly like slapstick, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 4: comedy movie.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I had a really good time though. It was fun.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Zach Galvinekus was nuts in it, and I was like, oh,
- 12:15Speaker 4: I guess I kind of see, Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 2: That makes sense. Yeah, like why he's just always kind
- 12:20Speaker 2: of been that guy. So that's fun.
- 12:22Speaker 4: That's fund So yeah, I recommend it if someone's looking for,
- 12:25Speaker 4: you know, if you got like a comedy Jones or something,
- 12:28Speaker 4: that'll feel it for sure.
- 12:29Speaker 2: It's a good time. I love that you went and
- 12:31Speaker 2: watched it. That's fun.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Yeah, And I feel like a bunch of other like
- 12:35Speaker 4: comedy since I've referenced it a little bit, like in
- 12:38Speaker 4: some weird ways, or maybe just reference that genre in general.
- 12:41Speaker 2: The like ski movie stuff. But it was fun. Man,
- 12:44Speaker 2: I had a good time. Very cool. How about you,
- 12:46Speaker 2: what have you been stirreaming? Well, I brought it up.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I've really been enjoying that Paradise show and it's on Hulu.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and it's sterling Kate Brown and Sarah Shaw.
- 12:59Speaker 2: He yeah, but season two is all done. I just
- 13:04Speaker 2: wrapped up another great season. He's just awesome in this.
- 13:11Speaker 2: They also introduced Shalne Woodley, who we like. She was
- 13:17Speaker 2: wonderful in it, and yeah, I'm still gonna leave it
- 13:21Speaker 2: kind of vague on what the show is if you're
- 13:24Speaker 2: interested in checking it out, because it's a lot of fun.
- 13:28Speaker 4: It's a good call because I saw an advertisement for
- 13:31Speaker 4: it while I was watching the Oscars, and he gave
- 13:34Speaker 4: away so many plot points. And I've only liked two
- 13:37Speaker 4: episodes in, so now I'm like, do I.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Even Yeah, well, sixty two episodes in. I felt like
- 13:45Speaker 2: I didn't even know what it was about. So I
- 13:48Speaker 2: was like, I don't want to say anything, but that's
- 13:52Speaker 2: the biggest one. Yeah, you know, but yeah, they have
- 13:56Speaker 2: a lot of James Martsen is still very in that.
- 14:00Speaker 2: That dude's just awesome. It's really fun. The two episodes
- 14:05Speaker 2: I've seen have been great. I just made it back
- 14:07Speaker 2: yet for sure. So well, they keep uncovering things. There's
- 14:10Speaker 2: some big plot things they're they're setting up for the
- 14:13Speaker 2: next season, which will be great. And I'm enjoying it
- 14:16Speaker 2: quite a bit. It's been really fun. It's cool. That's
- 14:19Speaker 2: very Yeah, check it out. Check it out? Should we do?
- 14:23Speaker 2: If you plug runs plugging at nice, guys.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Can visit us as always on the Twitter machine, we're
- 14:27Speaker 4: at abvid endorsement with a Z. You can also go

- 15:10Speaker 2: pertains to the movie we're talking about, and for this one,
- 15:15Speaker 2: we decided to do our top five favorite Redemption movie.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Kind of surprise. We've never done anything like that before. Same.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I looked, I didn't see anything, So I love it. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 2: I don't think that we have it. I don't. It's
- 15:27Speaker 2: just funny. It's never like I've ever yeah, looked it
- 15:30Speaker 2: up before. So wow, we're still doing it. Man, three
- 15:34Speaker 2: hundred plus episodes in and we're getting a different top
- 15:37Speaker 2: five draft every single time. Yes, it's pretty impressive. Yeah,
- 15:42Speaker 2: we are impressive. I agree. Yeah, agreed. I think I
- 15:45Speaker 2: check it out become a patron. Yeah, do it now?
- 15:49Speaker 2: Do it now? Please. We're here to discuss a great
- 15:53Speaker 2: movie that is celebrating its fortieth birthday this year. Fortieth wowsers.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Right in the middle of March madness.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, right in the middle of March madness.
- 16:03Speaker 4: We're here to talk a little who's yours today? Yes,
- 16:07Speaker 4: we had to get to our own little.

- 16:11Speaker 2: know him, you love him. Give it up for lou peers.
- 16:15Speaker 2: What's up, Luke? What's going on?
- 16:17Speaker 5: Guys? Going to see your faces?
- 16:20Speaker 2: So nice to see you.
- 16:22Speaker 5: What a nice to leading Rob. Since the last time
- 16:24Speaker 5: I was on here. I think you added bookshelf for
- 16:26Speaker 5: something in the background back there. Yeah, any thing's going on.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Yeah, reads now, I go in waves sometimes I'll read
- 16:37Speaker 2: so much for like two years and then I won't
- 16:39Speaker 2: touch a book for your So you definitely read more
- 16:41Speaker 2: than me at the crest of those waves, for sure.
- 16:45Speaker 2: For sure.
- 16:47Speaker 5: See your background looking great as always.
- 16:49Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, I've had it. I don't think these
- 16:52Speaker 2: were here last time.
- 16:53Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Yeah, they're all the fun edits that Rob does of
- 16:57Speaker 4: our movies with our posters.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Yeah, that's those are actually Yeah, I see I.
- 17:04Speaker 2: See you chance here.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeahs world.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Yeah. My favorite was making Bugs the baby and look
- 17:13Speaker 2: who's talking is great? It really was nice. Babies don't
- 17:19Speaker 2: have a lot of hair, so I fit that profile nicely.
- 17:22Speaker 2: It's like I know who's who's getting this baby? Who's
- 17:25Speaker 2: getting the baby?
- 17:26Speaker 5: Yeah, you guys need to have like some sort of
- 17:30Speaker 5: poster off, like some ranking of the posters for patrons, some.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Good idea like that, we got an ideas guy here,
- 17:37Speaker 2: I love it.
- 17:38Speaker 4: There's also like we've had like I think Darryl did
- 17:41Speaker 4: this one for Interstellar because it's really good.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Did you do that? I did the Interstellar Well, I
- 17:47Speaker 2: feel like I was a jerk and didn't give you credit.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I'm sorry, No, I did it, but it was one
- 17:53Speaker 2: of the best ones I'd ever done, Like I really
- 17:55Speaker 2: got the shading right. And then the software that I
- 17:59Speaker 2: was using like stopped working. So now I use this
- 18:03Speaker 2: other one and it's not as good and it's person Yeah,
- 18:08Speaker 2: but saying that's also why I'm probably you know, middle
- 18:12Speaker 2: management material at best. So who else, So they're definitely
- 18:18Speaker 2: not as good. Thank you, You're handsome, Thank you well
- 18:23Speaker 2: read see and we got Luke. We got Luke here,
- 18:26Speaker 2: we got Luke.
- 18:26Speaker 5: I'm glad to be back. It's great to be back
- 18:28Speaker 5: with you guys. This is one of my favorite times
- 18:32Speaker 5: of year, around March Madness.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Year.
- 18:34Speaker 5: We're recording this before March Madness and then like my
- 18:38Speaker 5: favorite just general week or favorite thing that I think
- 18:41Speaker 5: happens in the world is that Jim Nance gets to
- 18:43Speaker 5: fly from the National Championship game on Monday night straight
- 18:46Speaker 5: to augustin National for the Masters next week. So it's
- 18:50Speaker 5: like one of one of the favorite times a year
- 18:52Speaker 5: of sports and couldn't be more excited to be talking
- 18:54Speaker 5: about a movie that has so much to do with
- 18:57Speaker 5: with that sport.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So you know it, love it.
- 19:00Speaker 5: Love to see you guys going to be here.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, do you want to plug anything? Pal?
- 19:05Speaker 5: We got a lot of you know, the funny people
- 19:07Speaker 5: to let me, uh, let me jump on the soapbox
- 19:10Speaker 5: for a second here. I'm I've got to do a
- 19:12Speaker 5: couple of call outs here. I'm super proud of my
- 19:14Speaker 5: team at Works Entertainment that produced another PBS special this week,
- 19:18Speaker 5: the Tamu why Nette First Lady of Country Music here
- 19:21Speaker 5: in in Nashville, Tennessee tape to the Rhyme and it's
- 19:24Speaker 5: gonna be in the air on PBS. Great performances later
- 19:27Speaker 5: this year is check it out. That's great performances around that. Uh,
- 19:31Speaker 5: we're we're having a great, great time and a great
- 19:34Speaker 5: run on producing some some broadcast television stuff as well
- 19:38Speaker 5: as the music videos it Works Entertainment. I'm just really
- 19:40Speaker 5: proud of all the visual things we're making and getting
- 19:43Speaker 5: getting to be a part of including home Freeze to
- 19:45Speaker 5: his release of Loretta's Song, which you haven't checked out
- 19:48Speaker 5: the video for it yet, great great direction from Melissa
- 19:52Speaker 5: Lancaster and a great record from the guys at check out.
- 19:55Speaker 5: And of course I have my own podcast too that.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I sparingly do.
- 19:59Speaker 5: It's called Promoter one oh one. We've just dropped another episode.
- 20:03Speaker 5: We're doing every Thursday once a month. We've got two
- 20:05Speaker 5: hundred and forty in the can previously and we're just
- 20:09Speaker 5: kind of churned them out.
- 20:10Speaker 2: One once a month is about all I can.
- 20:12Speaker 5: Take in terms of time commitment versus the twice a
- 20:15Speaker 5: week I was doing for like three years. But we
- 20:19Speaker 5: just had a legend of the music business Joe Killian
- 20:23Speaker 5: on the podcast. Joe and I have worked on some
- 20:25Speaker 5: things together recently for the American Express PJA Torvent where
- 20:29Speaker 5: we do some concerts out there in sports and Joe
- 20:32Speaker 5: was like, he's like the first, maybe this is good
- 20:36Speaker 5: or bad. He was the first guy to have ever
- 20:38Speaker 5: done a credit card presale. He kind of like came
- 20:41Speaker 5: up with that concept and his legendary New York promoter
- 20:44Speaker 5: who kind of came up with the anx Or City
- 20:46Speaker 5: pre sale. So I love it or hate it for that.
- 20:48Speaker 5: But he's got a lot of stories about how he
- 20:51Speaker 5: kind of revolutionized the business of selling tickets for about
- 20:54Speaker 5: twenty years. So it's a great list. And he's also
- 20:56Speaker 5: got a jillion stories about a bajillion cool things. And
- 21:00Speaker 5: that's the most episode of one. But once a month,
- 21:03Speaker 5: every Last Thursday.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I love that. Last Thursday. Very cool, dude, I love it. Man.
- 21:10Speaker 2: You're always out there doing it. You're doing all the
- 21:12Speaker 2: stuff and out he's working it. I'm working. I'm working. Oh,
- 21:16Speaker 2: very cool. Uh? Why should we should we get right
- 21:20Speaker 2: into it? Should we start talking a little? Who's yours here?
- 21:22Speaker 2: Let's do yes? Let's deal it all right, Rob, you
- 21:24Speaker 2: want to get started with a rough synopsies. Yes. Failed
- 21:28Speaker 2: college coach Norman Dale gets a chance at redemption when
- 21:32Speaker 2: he is hired to direct the basketball program at a
- 21:35Speaker 2: high school in a tiny Indiana town after a teacher
- 21:39Speaker 2: persuade star player Jimmy Chitwood to quit and focus on
- 21:43Speaker 2: his long neglected studies. Dale struggles to develop a winning
- 21:47Speaker 2: team in the face of community criticism for his temper
- 21:51Speaker 2: and his unconventional choice of assistant coach Shooter, a notorious alcoholic,
- 21:58Speaker 2: oh like a dark I liked it nice.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Yeah, you go to Rotten to Bottles and hear what
- 22:04Speaker 4: they have to say. Critics have this coming in at
- 22:05Speaker 4: a rock solid ninety percent.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Guys, ninety percent is fresh.
- 22:10Speaker 5: I gotta be honest. I'm like, I'm a little surprised
- 22:13Speaker 5: that it's that high. I mean, I love this movie,
- 22:15Speaker 5: but I feel like there's like some some Velveda bits
- 22:18Speaker 5: to it having to be watched it here that I
- 22:19Speaker 5: was like, this really is ninety percent, that's that's that's great.
- 22:22Speaker 2: It's considered the best basketball movie of all time.
- 22:25Speaker 5: Holy crap, that's amazing.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Is oh dude? Everywhere? Wow?
- 22:30Speaker 5: Wow?
- 22:30Speaker 2: Yeah, huh Yeah. I don't know that I disagree with that.
- 22:34Speaker 5: I just think, yeah, I don't either. I just like
- 22:36Speaker 5: it's just such a popular support. Yeah, I'm like, the
- 22:39Speaker 5: probably will need so many of these things. Hustle was
- 22:41Speaker 5: great too. I guess that's the only one I can
- 22:43Speaker 5: think about.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Sold Yeah. Yeah, they've never seen Teen Wolf, I guess.
- 22:46Speaker 2: But that's good.
- 22:48Speaker 5: It's fine.
- 22:49Speaker 2: They break a lot of rules in that movie. Interesting.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Audience members have this just a little bit below that,
- 22:55Speaker 2: but also very high at eighty eight percent.
- 22:57Speaker 4: So eighty eight everybody loves this movie. It's one that
- 23:00Speaker 4: is revered by everybody, it seems, yeah, dude, And it's.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Been fun because Luke, the episodes we've done this year
- 23:08Speaker 2: have all been aside from the Best Picture winner, really
- 23:13Speaker 2: really lowly raided on Rotten Tomatoes, like every single movie.
- 23:20Speaker 2: This is sitting at like thirteen percent.
- 23:23Speaker 5: It's it's nice you guys have been like in the
- 23:26Speaker 5: Razzie stretch of.
- 23:29Speaker 2: The movies. We love just fun comedies.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, we like to class it up when
- 23:33Speaker 4: you come around, though, you know, yeah, for sure. Well
- 23:40Speaker 4: let's get into hear what we think of it? Should
- 23:42Speaker 4: we go right into our hot take?
- 23:44Speaker 2: Hot take? That's a hot take. That's a hot fire. Oh,
- 23:51Speaker 2: he's on fire. Nice, it's done. Kid's a shooter. Love it.
- 23:56Speaker 4: I can go first here. This isn't a movie I
- 23:59Speaker 4: grew up with, which I always think is a little
- 24:01Speaker 4: bit strange because I feel like I should have. I
- 24:04Speaker 4: saw it for the first time just last year. But
- 24:06Speaker 4: it's a movie I really like. I think I watched
- 24:09Speaker 4: it shortly after.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I think if I remember, yeah, but yeah, I really
- 24:19Speaker 2: like this.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Movie a lot though, And the rewatch was super fun.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Now that I was a little bit more familiar with it.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Just a heartwarming story. I think it's got some really
- 24:28Speaker 4: great pieces of like sports are important, but they're important
- 24:32Speaker 4: sometimes for everything except for the sports part, you know
- 24:36Speaker 4: what I mean, which I'm a big believer in and
- 24:38Speaker 4: I love anyway, especially high school sports and stuff like that.
- 24:42Speaker 4: I also super identify with the small town features of
- 24:45Speaker 4: this film, being from a tiny town. It wasn't basketball
- 24:49Speaker 4: for us, maybe closer to hockey, although I get the
- 24:53Speaker 4: impression that their town is even smaller than ours.
- 24:58Speaker 5: How many people weren't bought at so we had right
- 25:01Speaker 5: around one thousand?
- 25:02Speaker 2: Was what like that's what the sign said around town?
- 25:05Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think like you you might be like
- 25:07Speaker 5: a little bit bigger than like Richmond, Indiana or you
- 25:11Speaker 5: know the time where this was, or Milan, Indiana. I
- 25:13Speaker 5: think still to this day, which is what this movie
- 25:15Speaker 5: is based on, is like fifteen hundred people. So it's
- 25:17Speaker 5: like this is a very small town as well too.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 4: I was going to ask about Milan because I was
- 25:22Speaker 4: wondering if it was the same as in Missouri. They
- 25:24Speaker 4: have all these famous towns and they call them different names,
- 25:26Speaker 4: and it cracks me up every time because there's a
- 25:29Speaker 4: Milan in Missouri, but they call it Islandland.
- 25:31Speaker 2: I think I heard it was myelin. But Luke, you'd probably.
- 25:35Speaker 5: Get better is it is it called no, you mean
- 25:37Speaker 5: like the city in Indiana?
- 25:39Speaker 2: You would know better than me. Yeah, yeah, we'll.
- 25:41Speaker 5: Take your I was just talking to my dad about
- 25:44Speaker 5: this last night about and he used he used Milan.
- 25:47Speaker 2: But he also can be.
- 25:47Speaker 5: Very long about this as well too.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And this is stressed that he.
- 25:50Speaker 5: Was alive and remembers like that the game that was
- 25:55Speaker 5: famously one very small town school that that was like
- 25:58Speaker 5: the inspiration for this.
- 25:59Speaker 2: He was like nine years old.
- 26:00Speaker 5: It was like record news, you know, so sure. But
- 26:03Speaker 5: he also he also says Cincinnata so like with renunciation.
- 26:11Speaker 2: So I love it.
- 26:14Speaker 4: But yeah, I just think this movie is great in
- 26:17Speaker 4: so many ways. I think they take us on some
- 26:19Speaker 4: twists and turns. Yes, it gets a little like Saccharin
- 26:22Speaker 4: and Uey Guy at points, but I love that personally.
- 26:25Speaker 2: So that doesn't bug me.
- 26:27Speaker 4: The basketball seems like it's pretty legit throughout it. Uh yeah,
- 26:31Speaker 4: I've just had a really good time watching it again.
- 26:33Speaker 4: I thought it was super super fun. And uh, I
- 26:36Speaker 4: guess my hottest take is more of a hot question,
- 26:40Speaker 4: is this the film like the first time on film
- 26:44Speaker 4: we ever saw a slow clap because it's got.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Right, yes, think of like I don't know if you yeah,
- 26:52Speaker 5: like Timberwolves game or like I see a lot of
- 26:54Speaker 5: college games, but like that scene in particular when Merle
- 26:57Speaker 5: Webb is like starting the sew clap like is often
- 26:59Speaker 5: reused inside, you know, the jumbotrons to kind of like
- 27:03Speaker 5: pump up crowds today. In that I feel like that's like,
- 27:07Speaker 5: you know, it's emblematic of obviously being a basketball and
- 27:10Speaker 5: a sporting setting for too, but like it might be
- 27:12Speaker 5: the first slow clap on.
- 27:14Speaker 2: It, you know, I don't know. I didn't research it,
- 27:16Speaker 2: so I don't know, but it's got to be close.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I think. I think I like that. Yeah, So that's
- 27:22Speaker 2: my hot take, hot take, bro. My dad always loved
- 27:26Speaker 2: this one, and so I saw it a few times
- 27:28Speaker 2: with him when I was growing up. It had been
- 27:30Speaker 2: a very long time since i'd seen it, and it, Yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 2: it was still wonderful. It made me miss Gene Hackman
- 27:37Speaker 2: a bunch. This was nominated for two Academy Awards, Best
- 27:42Speaker 2: Original Score for Jerry Goldsmith and Best Supporting Actor for
- 27:44Speaker 2: Dennis Hopper, both of them lost. It was written by
- 27:50Speaker 2: Angelo Pitso and directed by David Anspa, and these two
- 27:54Speaker 2: have created some inspiring sports films like Hoosiers and Rudy.
- 28:00Speaker 2: We've already done an episode on Rudy. They went on
- 28:03Speaker 2: to do a soccer film starring Gerard Butler called The
- 28:06Speaker 2: Game of Their Lives. They did a football film starring
- 28:09Speaker 2: Aaron Eckhart called My All American. So they're kind of
- 28:14Speaker 2: getting all the sports. That's cool.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's really cool.
- 28:21Speaker 2: And like I said, this is widely considered the best
- 28:23Speaker 2: basketball movie of all time. I would have to agree
- 28:26Speaker 2: it's either that or Air Bud. I guess bugs already
- 28:30Speaker 2: made the joke of teen Wolf, but two great performances
- 28:36Speaker 2: from a couple of tremendous actors and Gene Hackman and
- 28:38Speaker 2: Dennis Hopper. I thought the kids they got playing basketball
- 28:42Speaker 2: were super believable as small town farm kids. It felt
- 28:45Speaker 2: very authentic. Yeah, it's a story about second chances and redemption,
- 28:51Speaker 2: something we all love to see, as well as an
- 28:53Speaker 2: underdog rising to greatness. So yeah, what's what's not to
- 28:56Speaker 2: love about this movie? St my hot take, I guess
- 29:01Speaker 2: I have a couple I was going to say that
- 29:02Speaker 2: this might be the whitest film ever made. But then
- 29:07Speaker 2: there were a couple couple of black guys on the
- 29:10Speaker 2: opposing team who were just bawling on these guys. My
- 29:15Speaker 2: other hot take, we got to bring back the granny
- 29:19Speaker 2: lob at the free throw line. Serious thing that bear
- 29:23Speaker 2: can do that he'll have to do better than he does.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Right now, what's the what's the pain? There was an
- 29:29Speaker 2: NBA player who did that and had a very good
- 29:32Speaker 2: It was like seven. We'd have to look it up.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Was it market?
- 29:37Speaker 5: Marcus Camby was like terrible at free throws for a while,
- 29:40Speaker 5: and I think he was at one point like trying
- 29:43Speaker 5: the granny lob sort of thing.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's true. They won't do it because they're like,
- 29:47Speaker 2: I'm going to look like a moron. It looks so silly.
- 29:50Speaker 2: But I love it. I love it so much. And
- 29:53Speaker 2: he just drained those two. It was Oh, Rick Berry
- 29:56Speaker 2: did it? Rick Barry? I think it's Rick Barry who
- 29:59Speaker 2: did it. Yeah, I'm gonna keep you check it out.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I want to see it. I want it back, I
- 30:05Speaker 2: want it. I love it. It's my hottest take. I
- 30:08Speaker 2: love that. That's a hot take. Now, Luke what you got, buddy.
- 30:12Speaker 5: Well, yeah, this is a is a classic movie. It's
- 30:15Speaker 5: a movie that I definitely grew up with. Despite doing
- 30:19Speaker 5: high school and a good part of Middle Squad in Philadelphia,
- 30:22Speaker 5: I was actually born and raised in a small town
- 30:25Speaker 5: in Indiana, not too far away from where a lot
- 30:28Speaker 5: of the games were played in the movie, and actually
- 30:31Speaker 5: knew some of the actors that had acted on the
- 30:33Speaker 5: basketball team in this and so the connection to the
- 30:38Speaker 5: the actor was a family. And to what you said
- 30:41Speaker 5: buged about, like for me, the thing I think I
- 30:43Speaker 5: took away as a kid was always it was really
- 30:45Speaker 5: like kind of a small town, how much sports can mean,
- 30:48Speaker 5: how much round together it can means, you know, later
- 30:51Speaker 5: on in life, it was like only when I.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Went back and rewatched.
- 30:53Speaker 5: Hopper's performance and like understood the redemption side of things
- 30:56Speaker 5: and understood what Norman Dale was going through as part
- 31:00Speaker 5: of that, there was it wasn't you know, the underdog
- 31:03Speaker 5: part of it that I kind of overlooked as a
- 31:06Speaker 5: as a kid, you know, became more apparent. That was
- 31:08Speaker 5: just another just incredibly strong message that.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Came through in this movie.
- 31:12Speaker 5: And you know, as much as I love basketball and
- 31:16Speaker 5: any high school basketball, which you could talk about at length,
- 31:19Speaker 5: like basketball is almost secondaries everything else there, like Redemption
- 31:24Speaker 5: Story with really short shorts, you know, the wonderful I
- 31:32Speaker 5: actually I couldn't find it. I think it's an over
- 31:35Speaker 5: my storage unit. But I actually have an authentic hickory
- 31:38Speaker 5: hickory outfit with.
- 31:39Speaker 2: This short shorts.
- 31:41Speaker 5: For this thing that I was given uh as a
- 31:44Speaker 5: gift playing and I got to go play some basketball
- 31:46Speaker 5: at Gamebridge Arena in that short shorts.
- 31:48Speaker 2: This is awesome. But uh, the fact that it's just
- 31:56Speaker 2: rooted in.
- 31:57Speaker 5: Really what you know it was alluding to. It's a
- 31:59Speaker 5: true Indiana story. I think it gives it that DNA
- 32:03Speaker 5: that few movies, who sports movies particularly can really replicate.
- 32:08Speaker 5: It's not you know, some based on true story marketing gimmick.
- 32:12Speaker 5: It really does breathe Indiana. Like farmers playing basquats. It's
- 32:15Speaker 5: pretty much all there is do in that state, especially
- 32:17Speaker 5: in some of those places of that time, so, you know,
- 32:20Speaker 5: and it's just filled with a wonderful emotional beats. And
- 32:24Speaker 5: like one of the things that I kind of had
- 32:26Speaker 5: some admiration for as I was rewatching this movie the
- 32:31Speaker 5: other night, was just like there's no CGI shots like
- 32:34Speaker 5: it's like no manufactured kind of like whatever. It's just
- 32:38Speaker 5: like a gem full of real people and some real energy.
- 32:40Speaker 5: And I thought that was like really cool to be
- 32:43Speaker 5: able to make something like that. So, you know, it
- 32:47Speaker 5: was top to bottom. Definitely one of my favorite movies.
- 32:50Speaker 5: I know, ESPN's got it up there is the number
- 32:53Speaker 5: one sports movie of all time. Probably hard to truly argue,
- 32:58Speaker 5: you know. And the fact that they did this movie
- 33:00Speaker 5: on a tiny shoe string budget right, filmed with a
- 33:04Speaker 5: bunch of Indiana kids is just like so raw and
- 33:08Speaker 5: so cool to me. So all those all those who
- 33:12Speaker 5: haven't seen Hoosiers yet or like say, Whosia is the worst,
- 33:15Speaker 5: you know, sports film. I like looked up a few
- 33:17Speaker 5: of those things on Reddit, like looking for some hot takes.
- 33:19Speaker 2: And this thing.
- 33:20Speaker 5: I think you all are absolutely insane.
- 33:22Speaker 2: On Reddit talking about this stuff.
- 33:25Speaker 5: You know, I would love to see a list of classical,
- 33:27Speaker 5: you know, classic movies from this era or like anything
- 33:30Speaker 5: about sports that you think is great. So yeah, it's
- 33:34Speaker 5: it's definitely worth to watch.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Love it hot to take love that. While should we
- 33:42Speaker 2: go ahead and name our favorite acting performance show? We
- 33:44Speaker 2: named The Dude, The Dude. The Dude. I'm the dude.
- 33:50Speaker 4: So that's what you call me, you know, uh that
- 33:53Speaker 4: or his dude or duder or you know, el dude,
- 33:57Speaker 4: a reno if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Luke, why don't you go first? Who's your dude?
- 34:03Speaker 5: I Am sure this is probably gonna be a lot
- 34:05Speaker 5: of folks on it, But Dennis Hopper, as as Shooter
- 34:09Speaker 5: is mine.
- 34:09Speaker 2: I think you can go on.
- 34:10Speaker 5: I think you can really go one of two ways
- 34:12Speaker 5: in terms of this performance. Obviously only as as I
- 34:17Speaker 5: pointed out, a lot of the kids, Jimmy Chitwood, Borrow Web,
- 34:19Speaker 5: all these guys were Indiana boys that really didn't have
- 34:22Speaker 5: acting experience. They just like needed to like look like
- 34:25Speaker 5: they uh, people that could play basketball, that could CAUSI
- 34:30Speaker 5: act is essentially the rest of the casting. So there's
- 34:32Speaker 5: two ways. I think you can go with the dude.
- 34:34Speaker 5: I go with Hopper, you know, And I think a
- 34:37Speaker 5: lot of this was was his story as the town
- 34:39Speaker 5: drunk and his broken dad, and you know, this kind
- 34:43Speaker 5: of like final shot that this guy gets uh as
- 34:47Speaker 5: part of his you know, redemption arc, that scene where
- 34:50Speaker 5: he stumbled into the court, uh during the sectional game.
- 34:53Speaker 5: So hard, so hard to watch and apparently Hopper like
- 34:58Speaker 5: like spun in circles fro like it's crazy to like
- 35:03Speaker 5: like somebody saying action to kind.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Of really like fake that.
- 35:07Speaker 5: And what what I loved so much about that it was,
- 35:10Speaker 5: you know, at the time, just like going back and
- 35:12Speaker 5: looking like Copper's life and career, he was himself going
- 35:14Speaker 5: through a lot of the same demons and a lot
- 35:18Speaker 5: of the same problems and battling his own addictions in
- 35:20Speaker 5: real life and throughout his career in general. And so
- 35:22Speaker 5: to see that kind of come through and for an
- 35:24Speaker 5: actor to bring an experience like that to the screen,
- 35:27Speaker 5: I think it's really always a cool thing to see.
- 35:29Speaker 5: So I like that laired aspect of it. I love
- 35:31Speaker 5: the performance to checking into rehab scene just like you
- 35:36Speaker 5: know many you can't do it yourself, kind of like
- 35:38Speaker 5: devastating barely, you know, barely any dialogue that scene, but
- 35:42Speaker 5: he just acts it.
- 35:43Speaker 2: So yeah, I love it. Yeah, So, I I was
- 35:49Speaker 2: fully prepared to say Gene Hackman as Norman Dale, it's
- 35:53Speaker 2: a legendary performance. But honestly, after reading the trivia in this,
- 35:59Speaker 2: this is the exact same take I have on this. Yeah, Okay,
- 36:02Speaker 2: go ahead, So we're definitely gonna hit on it later.
- 36:06Speaker 2: But it sounds like Gene Hackman was just a nightmare
- 36:08Speaker 2: on this set. He just wanted to get out of
- 36:10Speaker 2: this film. He didn't like he thought it was going
- 36:13Speaker 2: to be really bad, it could possibly end his career.
- 36:15Speaker 2: He thought it was going to be that bad, which
- 36:18Speaker 2: you get none of that in his performance. Like his
- 36:21Speaker 2: performance is so great in this. But Dennis Hopper, on
- 36:27Speaker 2: the other hand, like he takes his character that isn't
- 36:30Speaker 2: written very well and gives it this like this nuanced
- 36:36Speaker 2: performance is just like it's amazing, and he was so
- 36:40Speaker 2: great on set, and it's just like kind of like
- 36:42Speaker 2: how Timothy Shallowmy talked himself out of an oscar this year.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Pretty much, sure, I'm gonna I'm gonna talk Gene Hackman
- 36:51Speaker 2: out of the dude for this, and yeah, Dennis Hopper
- 36:55Speaker 2: he's great. I mean, he got nominated for Academy Award
- 36:57Speaker 2: for it, So yeah, I'm gonna go with Hopper.
- 37:02Speaker 4: Well, that's like I said, hilarious because I have like
- 37:05Speaker 4: almost the exact same take I was.
- 37:07Speaker 2: I thought I definitely will be Hackman, and then I
- 37:10Speaker 2: was like, oh, this trivia sucks and it sucks such
- 37:13Speaker 2: a Kirk. Yeah, I don't know.
- 37:15Speaker 4: It's just such a bummer, you know, who knows what
- 37:17Speaker 4: he was going through, you know at that time too,
- 37:20Speaker 4: like he might have just been sad and depressed or whatever.
- 37:23Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, I went with Hopper as well.
- 37:25Speaker 4: So it's a clean sweep all the things you guys said.
- 37:27Speaker 4: I thought he was just really great in this, and
- 37:32Speaker 4: I loved that they I mean, I guess this isn't
- 37:35Speaker 4: so much him as it is the writers maybe, but
- 37:37Speaker 4: they it wasn't like a linear path either, you know,
- 37:40Speaker 4: like he he screwed up, he failed, you know, his
- 37:44Speaker 4: part of his redemption is that he kept trying, you know,
- 37:47Speaker 4: and I think that's super important and also very true
- 37:50Speaker 4: to addiction, you know, any of these things.
- 37:54Speaker 2: So I just loved that. I thought his performance was
- 37:56Speaker 2: so great. Yeah. Another thing that I loved reading the
- 38:02Speaker 2: trivia was that initially they wrote that he was going
- 38:07Speaker 2: to leave rehab early to go and be at this game,
- 38:11Speaker 2: and he was like, hey, I've been through this. If
- 38:15Speaker 2: he's really committed to his sobriety, he would never do this. Yeah. Yeah,
- 38:21Speaker 2: and they changed it and it was way more effective.
- 38:25Speaker 2: It was the perfect choice. So yeah, it made that
- 38:31Speaker 2: scene when his kiddo came so good but yes, a
- 38:37Speaker 2: clean sweep for the hot man. I love that, love it,
- 38:40Speaker 2: love it. I'll go to the supporting roles. Let's let's
- 38:43Speaker 2: hit that to g we got for this, Luke, who's
- 38:48Speaker 2: your teach?
- 38:49Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I think there's a couple of ways
- 38:52Speaker 5: you can go with the teacher this thing if you
- 38:55Speaker 5: you know, if you picked Hopper, you know, you can
- 38:57Speaker 5: go with with Hacker advice versus sort of thing. Yeah,
- 39:01Speaker 5: you know which, Yeah, I think I think it'd be
- 39:05Speaker 5: hard not to speak to Gene Hackman just in regards
- 39:08Speaker 5: to his performance next this as well too. And I
- 39:11Speaker 5: think we've said, you know, how much of the backbone
- 39:16Speaker 5: he really is in this this movie, this guy with
- 39:18Speaker 5: a violent pass, trying to rebuild a little bit in
- 39:21Speaker 5: life in the smallest you know, seemingly unwelcoming town, uh
- 39:25Speaker 5: in America, and he just like doesn't ask for any sympathy,
- 39:29Speaker 5: doesn't really explain himself. He just like goes to work.
- 39:33Speaker 5: And you know, I think, uh, I think there was
- 39:37Speaker 5: like one scene where like kind of the restraint that
- 39:39Speaker 5: Gene Hackman or Mdel had, uh, you know that shows
- 39:44Speaker 5: like when a big moment landed when he finally lets
- 39:47Speaker 5: Jimmy play, when he tells the team to measure the
- 39:49Speaker 5: rim at Pinkle Field. El's all those moments so good.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Uh.
- 39:54Speaker 5: And it's so funny because I read the same trivia
- 39:56Speaker 5: about hacking thinking like this is gonna kill my career.
- 40:00Speaker 5: You know, it's probably more of it. One of the
- 40:01Speaker 5: more iconic roles to see it.
- 40:04Speaker 2: There as well.
- 40:05Speaker 5: Sure, And there's you know to all the ade you
- 40:08Speaker 5: know boys and there you know guys in their twenties
- 40:10Speaker 5: that we were part of this too. I mean you
- 40:12Speaker 5: you can maybe throw Maris who played Jimmy Chitwood in
- 40:17Speaker 5: there as well too. He delivered some kind of stoic lines. Yeah,
- 40:21Speaker 5: I don't think he speaks for like eighty percent of
- 40:22Speaker 5: the movie, but like the ones does Land are great
- 40:25Speaker 5: for sure.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Uh.
- 40:26Speaker 5: And there's a there's an actor named Kent Poole who
- 40:28Speaker 5: was who played the character Merle Webb. What a few
- 40:30Speaker 5: lines and and and there as well too, who's a
- 40:33Speaker 5: family family friend of ours that you know really was
- 40:36Speaker 5: not a guy that was an actor. He was really
- 40:39Speaker 5: a really good basketball player from Western Boone, Indiana, and
- 40:42Speaker 5: like a handsome guy that answered and an audition call
- 40:45Speaker 5: from a radio station to go play that part delivered.
- 40:48Speaker 5: It's a pretty cool line. So there's a there's probably
- 40:51Speaker 5: more examples that I'm not hitting on about this about
- 40:53Speaker 5: those guys that are there, are anyone basically the team
- 40:57Speaker 5: that's not Jimmy Chit would really didn't really have any
- 41:01Speaker 5: practical acting experience and to kind of deliver those lines
- 41:05Speaker 5: that they needed to or the movie they needed to
- 41:06Speaker 5: during those times, I think is commendable as well too,
- 41:09Speaker 5: maybe not too too worthy like Hackman, but worthy of
- 41:12Speaker 5: getting called out.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Love it. I love that and yeah, man, it made
- 41:16Speaker 2: it so authentic having those guys. You could tell they
- 41:19Speaker 2: weren't real actors, they were ballplayers, and it really came through. Yeah,
- 41:25Speaker 2: I would definitely pick Gene Hackman. I just I love
- 41:30Speaker 2: him so much. It would really honestly bump me out
- 41:34Speaker 2: reading that. He But I love Gene Ackman in everything great. Yeah,
- 41:41Speaker 2: and he was great in this Barbara Hershey as Myra
- 41:44Speaker 2: Fleener not like a huge role, and it was an
- 41:49Speaker 2: interesting one. I didn't feel like the if I had
- 41:53Speaker 2: to give this movie any critique at all, it would
- 41:55Speaker 2: be to really flesh that out a little more. I
- 42:01Speaker 2: didn't love how they wrote her character. But I thought
- 42:04Speaker 2: she did great with what she had. Yeah, I've always
- 42:10Speaker 2: felt like she's great and everything i've seen her do, Yeah,
- 42:15Speaker 2: that's all I got. I love that. I thought she
- 42:18Speaker 2: was really good too. I'm with you. I felt like
- 42:20Speaker 2: we could have had some more reason she supported him
- 42:25Speaker 2: not playing. I just don't know what.
- 42:26Speaker 4: I don't know what it would be if it was
- 42:28Speaker 4: like he you know, he worries so much when he
- 42:31Speaker 4: plays or something, you know, or like, I don't know,
- 42:33Speaker 4: she doesn't think he'll deal with the grief or something,
- 42:35Speaker 4: you now, if he's.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Playing or whatever.
- 42:37Speaker 4: But they just didn't give her a lot. But I
- 42:39Speaker 4: did really like her, and I thought she you know,
- 42:42Speaker 4: held her own, which is really great. I probably would
- 42:47Speaker 4: have also picked Hackman for all the reasons we've said.
- 42:51Speaker 4: I want to give a shout out though, to that
- 42:53Speaker 4: David Needorf, and I think this is right. That's Shooter's kid, right,
- 42:57Speaker 4: Is that the right kid?
- 42:58Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, yeah yeah?
- 43:01Speaker 4: I thought especially this really like this time watching it.
- 43:04Speaker 4: He gives such a great performance because he is obviously
- 43:08Speaker 4: like super stubborn about his dad. He's disappointed in his dad.
- 43:11Speaker 4: He's been hurt by his dad. But the like when
- 43:15Speaker 4: he's able to give him kindness in the couple spots
- 43:17Speaker 4: where he does it, hits.
- 43:19Speaker 2: So perfectly does and feels just really great and real.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I just I really liked that.
- 43:28Speaker 4: I don't know, I really like when he goes and
- 43:31Speaker 4: meets him in the you know, in the rehab, Like
- 43:33Speaker 4: we talked about already, that scene is just so it's great.
- 43:36Speaker 2: They don't say a lot to.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Each other, but they say everything, you know, at the
- 43:40Speaker 4: same time, Like, and I think that's I think that'd
- 43:43Speaker 4: be really hard to.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Do as an actor, So I just wanted to give
- 43:47Speaker 2: him a shout out. I thought he was absolutely great. Yeah,
- 43:51Speaker 2: and when when Dennis Hopper is clearly like overwhelmed as
- 43:55Speaker 2: the coach and like the games on the line, He's like,
- 43:58Speaker 2: do you think is probably going to get to the
- 44:01Speaker 2: last shot? Dad? Like trying to like because he's heard
- 44:04Speaker 2: a million times or whatever, right, Yeah, over the years. Yeah,
- 44:07Speaker 2: for sure, No, that's a good call. He was really good. Also,
- 44:12Speaker 2: Chelsea Ross from Major League was so fun to yea
- 44:15Speaker 2: for a moment. I love that guy. I really liked
- 44:18Speaker 2: that a lot. I loved him. He's just such a
- 44:21Speaker 2: smart made jerk. Yep, he was so bummed out that
- 44:26Speaker 2: he was not going to be the coach.
- 44:28Speaker 4: He was so sad, and boy did I relate, Like,
- 44:31Speaker 4: did I see a few people in my life from
- 44:34Speaker 4: sports that I.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Felt like, oh yeah, they would act that way.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Oh lord?
- 44:41Speaker 2: But yeah, those were kind of all the individuals I
- 44:45Speaker 2: had written down, though not a ton of like people
- 44:48Speaker 2: had a lot to do in this movie. I felt like, so, yeah,
- 44:51Speaker 2: not a huge cast, but they were great. Yeah, I agree. Well,
- 44:56Speaker 2: should we start talking some scenes? Is a time to
- 44:59Speaker 2: name Zadanga the dingus. Let's do it so das is
- 45:04Speaker 2: quite simple, really dingus dingus. I could talk about my
- 45:07Speaker 2: dingus all night long. Your favorite scene? What's your favorite favorite?
- 45:13Speaker 5: My favorite scene? Okay, so I wrote down four. We
- 45:18Speaker 5: don't talk, but I think my favorite scene is I
- 45:22Speaker 5: probably made an allusion to it. I'm stuck between two,
- 45:26Speaker 5: but I think the one that is probably my favorite
- 45:29Speaker 5: is is shooters drunk walk out onto the court during
- 45:34Speaker 5: the lactional game to show it up, wasted stumbling out
- 45:37Speaker 5: in front of the whole town with the sun plane.
- 45:40Speaker 5: I mean, like, shame is like palpitable. I feel like
- 45:42Speaker 5: there's so much emotion around in that scene. You know,
- 45:46Speaker 5: there where Hopper kind of took to spinning around for
- 45:52Speaker 5: like a minute before he was told to jump into action.
- 45:55Speaker 5: There it's like really just like watching somebody kind of
- 45:58Speaker 5: hit rock bottom, which is like I think like the
- 46:00Speaker 5: really an emotional thing to to put forward. Plus the
- 46:02Speaker 5: sun up there as well too. That or the the
- 46:07Speaker 5: measure of the floor scene. I think that's like one
- 46:09Speaker 5: of the greatest coaching scenes where the team walks into
- 46:13Speaker 5: Hinkle Field House, which is where Butler still plays the
- 46:16Speaker 5: Butler University for the state championship, and you can see
- 46:21Speaker 5: this kind of like look of like intimidation or you know,
- 46:24Speaker 5: nervousness about them, and Dale pulls out that measuring tape
- 46:28Speaker 5: and measures what the distance between the hoop and the
- 46:33Speaker 5: you know, free throw line all that stuff, and it's
- 46:36Speaker 5: just like, you know, it's exact same measurements of what
- 46:38Speaker 5: you guys playing back at home. So it's such a
- 46:41Speaker 5: brilliant but like simple coaching moment, and you know, it
- 46:46Speaker 5: kind of just grounds that whole narrative of you know,
- 46:49Speaker 5: this underdog on this grand stage, uh, you know, for
- 46:52Speaker 5: this this big moment, this big game. So you know,
- 46:56Speaker 5: I I I think that those are my probably two
- 46:59Speaker 5: favorite scenes.
- 47:00Speaker 2: I love that. Those are both great. They are both great,
- 47:05Speaker 2: and I would I would loop like him measuring the
- 47:10Speaker 2: court just into the final game the last like half hour,
- 47:15Speaker 2: love it, Love it. That's my favorite scene. And you
- 47:20Speaker 2: have the speech leading up to it. It's not huge,
- 47:24Speaker 2: but you got each one of those players kind of
- 47:26Speaker 2: saying their piece too and who they want to do
- 47:29Speaker 2: it for, and can Pool had that that good line, Yeah,
- 47:35Speaker 2: doing it for the Yeah, but that was great and
- 47:41Speaker 2: him just like ending with I love you guys, and
- 47:44Speaker 2: then they go out and I mean, all the basketball
- 47:47Speaker 2: was really fun to watch. They had a lot of
- 47:49Speaker 2: basketball in this movie. I agree, Yeah, and it was
- 47:53Speaker 2: pretty great in that last scene.
- 47:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I like it's something that we haven't talked about, like,
- 47:58Speaker 5: like I there's something and Indiana high school basketball for
- 48:01Speaker 5: like those of you who aren't around, it is like,
- 48:04Speaker 5: you know, equivalent like Friday night lights, right. I mean,
- 48:09Speaker 5: it's it's intense, it's hyper local, it's emotional. Some of
- 48:13Speaker 5: these gyms are gigantic in Indiana. I mean, like you know,
- 48:16Speaker 5: you might have six seven thousand seats in some gyms,
- 48:19Speaker 5: you know, fieldhouses all over across that place for a
- 48:21Speaker 5: county that may have like thirty thousand people at it.
- 48:23Speaker 5: So like on you know, on a Friday or Saturday night,
- 48:27Speaker 5: you have like a third to you know, a fifth
- 48:30Speaker 5: to a third of the entire county in some gym.
- 48:34Speaker 5: And so it's it's it is real, and the intensity
- 48:37Speaker 5: is real around that, and I think the pressure for
- 48:40Speaker 5: players is around that as something that's so hyper local,
- 48:43Speaker 5: but it is such a huge, huge thing growing up
- 48:46Speaker 5: in Indiana. It's it's the sport, you know. So this
- 48:49Speaker 5: movie did such a great job I think if I content,
- 48:52Speaker 5: you know, showing the intensity of those things and creating
- 48:55Speaker 5: the settings for so many great scenes and moments inside
- 48:58Speaker 5: of basketball because of that. It's something I always you know,
- 49:03Speaker 5: being born Indiana, I haven't played basketballa and for a
- 49:05Speaker 5: few years before I moved out of East like remember
- 49:08Speaker 5: the feeling of going to high school games and what
- 49:10Speaker 5: it was like, and it was really it really pops
- 49:12Speaker 5: from the screen from that perspective for me, which is
- 49:15Speaker 5: which is really cool to see in all these it's
- 49:18Speaker 5: a great setting for a lot of a lot of
- 49:20Speaker 5: great film.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Absolutely nice. Yeah, I love that. Yeah, what do you
- 49:26Speaker 2: got bigs?
- 49:27Speaker 4: Well, I think I'll say one quick. That sort of
- 49:30Speaker 4: speaks to that, Luke, because you know, I think where
- 49:33Speaker 4: I grew up was it wasn't basketball, but it was hockey,
- 49:36Speaker 4: right like, and I think in different regions it's different things.
- 49:39Speaker 4: But because of how intense it is and because of
- 49:42Speaker 4: how much identity is within playing basketball. I loved the
- 49:48Speaker 4: scene between Jimmy's the kid who can shoot really well,
- 49:52Speaker 4: right Jimmy, and and Hackman when he's just shooting on
- 49:57Speaker 4: his little dirt you know, dirt patch and his hoop
- 50:00Speaker 4: out there, and he's just like, listen, I don't care
- 50:03Speaker 4: if you play, but I want you to be there,
- 50:05Speaker 4: and I want you to succeed, you know, like in class,
- 50:08Speaker 4: because he's talking to him about something other than basketball.
- 50:11Speaker 4: And it's so easy for these people who are so
- 50:14Speaker 4: invested in these things to make it about themselves and
- 50:17Speaker 4: not even intentionally a lot of times, right Like, they
- 50:21Speaker 4: just want to make it better for everyone, is.
- 50:23Speaker 2: What they're thinking.
- 50:24Speaker 4: I love that scene just because of how simple it was,
- 50:28Speaker 4: so that one's a runner up for me, I think.
- 50:31Speaker 4: But I kind of agree with you, reb like, if.
- 50:33Speaker 2: We can pick the whole last game, great, because that
- 50:35Speaker 2: was super fun and compelling. It was awesome.
- 50:39Speaker 4: And then the other one that I've said it like
- 50:41Speaker 4: a million times already, but the Shooter and his kid
- 50:44Speaker 4: in the hospital when he's in rehab.
- 50:47Speaker 2: I just love that scene, and especially love.
- 50:51Speaker 4: How you know, because Shooter is such a talker, right,
- 50:54Speaker 4: and he's like in this like kind of almost manic state.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Kid comes in and it's so emotional and quiet and
- 51:01Speaker 2: like but lovely.
- 51:04Speaker 4: And then he leaves and he's like goes right back
- 51:07Speaker 4: into his dietrap that he's talking to the nurse and
- 51:09Speaker 4: then has he.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Does his little cry. Right, It's just so great. I
- 51:13Speaker 2: just I love that whole scene. I think it's beautiful.
- 51:15Speaker 5: That's good.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Yeah, So because you have any other runner ups, Luke,
- 51:22Speaker 2: I had.
- 51:22Speaker 5: A couple more, Yeah, the other ones that I wrote down.
- 51:27Speaker 5: Let me go back to this, uh the shot the
- 51:32Speaker 5: town meeting, the town meeting for me, uh yeah, town
- 51:37Speaker 5: voting on whether or not to keep coach Dale. Like,
- 51:39Speaker 5: I mean that's like literally how small town Indiana politics
- 51:44Speaker 5: go down. You know, It's it's kind of wild.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:48Speaker 5: And you know, just as just as Hackman looks like
- 51:51Speaker 5: he's like on the way out, you know, Jimmy chip
- 51:53Speaker 5: Wood stands up and you know, I think that's Is
- 51:55Speaker 5: that the first time he speaks in that movie?
- 51:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I played coach.
- 52:00Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, he goes, I go sort of thing.
- 52:02Speaker 5: It's like definitely like maybe his first lines on it.
- 52:04Speaker 5: So turning point for Hackman and turning a point for
- 52:07Speaker 5: Norman down that movie. And you know, the gymnasium erupting
- 52:11Speaker 5: kind of gives you the chills every time. So I
- 52:13Speaker 5: like that scene a lot too. That was the one
- 52:14Speaker 5: that I think we didn't hit other than the I
- 52:17Speaker 5: had the game The game winner.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Of course, you know, to the game Winner is incredible,
- 52:20Speaker 2: you know, the.
- 52:21Speaker 5: Defence play thing, and I guess I was reading some
- 52:24Speaker 5: trivia about the making this too. It's pretty much the
- 52:26Speaker 5: exact spot that player Bobby Plump hit the real game
- 52:30Speaker 5: winning shot in the same gym in nineteen fifty four.
- 52:33Speaker 2: So oh really that's so yeah?
- 52:36Speaker 5: Yeah, so that cool? Those two are?
- 52:40Speaker 2: Are it for me? A couple more runner ups? Just
- 52:44Speaker 2: when when Shooter dials up the play to win the game,
- 52:47Speaker 2: they do the picket fence. Yes, yeah, it was really fun,
- 52:50Speaker 2: super fun. Yeah. I really enjoyed that. I also loved
- 52:55Speaker 2: when they're kind of doing that pep rally and they're like,
- 53:00Speaker 2: we want Jimmy, we want Jimmy and Gene Hackman is like, hey,
- 53:04Speaker 2: these guys, this is your team. This is your team.
- 53:07Speaker 2: They're working their butts off. They just demand your respect, like,
- 53:12Speaker 2: this is your team.
- 53:15Speaker 5: That's an awesome line. Yeah.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that was really cool. That was a
- 53:19Speaker 2: cool scene, kind of putting them in their place a
- 53:21Speaker 2: little bit. Yeah, but yeah, I mean it's the game.
- 53:26Speaker 2: It's it's so great.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Also, love when he plays with four people. I just
- 53:30Speaker 4: think that's such a power coach move.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Yeah, like we're doing this my way to my team's
- 53:36Speaker 2: on the floor, Like okay, all right, guys, like you
- 53:40Speaker 2: got to start listening to me. Yeah, that's pretty wild
- 53:43Speaker 2: it stubborn dude pretty well. Yeah. One of the March
- 53:47Speaker 2: Madness teams tried to do that, was that. Sorry, that's me.
- 53:51Speaker 2: I don't think that tried to do it wasn't. I
- 53:53Speaker 2: don't think that work.
- 53:55Speaker 5: Any like that. That's in today's game. I'm like, that
- 54:01Speaker 5: sounds insane. Somebody just went on you know, whatever just
- 54:05Speaker 5: happened there. So yeah it wow, uh.
- 54:10Speaker 2: Yeah, well great, so we're gonna pick the end of
- 54:13Speaker 2: the movie. Sounds love it. Well, let's talk some of
- 54:16Speaker 2: these quotes it's time to show me the money.
- 54:23Speaker 5: Show me.
- 54:27Speaker 2: Take a couple of quotes, Luke.
- 54:30Speaker 5: So yeah, I liked uh Rob you touched on it
- 54:33Speaker 5: just a second ago. But the line that Norman Dale
- 54:37Speaker 5: leaves here, which was I would hope that you would
- 54:41Speaker 5: support who we are, not who were not. These six
- 54:44Speaker 5: individuals have made a choice to work, a choice to sacrifice,
- 54:48Speaker 5: a choice to put them on themselves in the line
- 54:50Speaker 5: twenty three nights for the next four months to represent
- 54:53Speaker 5: you in this high school. That kind of commitment and
- 54:56Speaker 5: effort deserves and demands your respect. This is your team.
- 55:00Speaker 5: What a great line just in general, you know, respect
- 55:03Speaker 5: for effort, you know, all that stuff really resonates. So
- 55:06Speaker 5: it's not about one it it's about respect for the
- 55:09Speaker 5: people putting themselves out there for your for your community
- 55:12Speaker 5: and your city and your school. And what a great
- 55:14Speaker 5: line by teen happened?
- 55:15Speaker 2: You know? Love that? Yeah that's way up there for
- 55:20Speaker 2: me too. Yeah, great one.
- 55:22Speaker 5: He had a lot of like good he had. He
- 55:24Speaker 5: had a lot of good Like funny coaching is too
- 55:27Speaker 5: like stick with your man, think of it as chewing gum.
- 55:30Speaker 5: I want you to know, but of the game, what
- 55:31Speaker 5: flavor he is? Like I remember basketball coaches saying what
- 55:36Speaker 5: I thought was done got to me as a kid.
- 55:38Speaker 2: Totally. I loved that. Then later on he comes back
- 55:43Speaker 2: and he's like it was denteen. Yeah, after he falls
- 55:47Speaker 2: out right or something too.
- 55:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I love I love the line that e meoral
- 55:55Speaker 5: web delivery is about, uh, let's win this one for
- 55:58Speaker 5: all the little schools who doesn't have a chance. I
- 56:00Speaker 5: never had a chance to make air fantastic line. Ull
- 56:03Speaker 5: on from there, Jimmy chip Wood lines I play coach stays.
- 56:08Speaker 2: He goes.
- 56:08Speaker 5: I go like, you know, because I think that was
- 56:10Speaker 5: the first time that Jimmy spoke there. But yeah, those
- 56:13Speaker 5: those some of those little lines well delivered from like
- 56:16Speaker 5: the not actors. I think we're really great.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Yeah, man, another one from him just they're all like
- 56:26Speaker 2: bummed out that hackman is going to go with the
- 56:28Speaker 2: picket fence moving and they're all they're all thinking it.
- 56:32Speaker 2: They're just like, why don't we give it to Jimmy?
- 56:34Speaker 2: What is the deal? And he's just like, I'll make it.
- 56:37Speaker 2: I'll make it. And you're like, Okay, we're gonna give
- 56:40Speaker 2: it to Jimmy at the top of the key. Yeah,
- 56:43Speaker 2: he's yeah, he's the guy I love that. Loved that too.
- 56:49Speaker 2: I love when coach Normandale just ends his his speech
- 56:52Speaker 2: to just say I love you guys.
- 56:55Speaker 5: I loved that.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Great. He also says, if you put your effort
- 57:00Speaker 2: and concentration into playing to your potential to be the
- 57:03Speaker 2: best that you can be. I don't care what the
- 57:05Speaker 2: scoreboard says at the end of the game. In my book,
- 57:08Speaker 2: we're going to be winners.
- 57:09Speaker 5: It's great, great line, perfectly great line. Yeah, what'd you have?
- 57:15Speaker 2: Man? I had a couple I really liked.
- 57:17Speaker 3: Uh.
- 57:19Speaker 2: One funny one from Hackman was when he's gonna go
- 57:23Speaker 2: yell at the ref.
- 57:24Speaker 3: Uh.
- 57:24Speaker 4: It's the game where he gets kicked out, and then
- 57:26Speaker 4: Shooter actually steps up like it's the good one. But
- 57:29Speaker 4: when he goes and heels and the guy's trying to
- 57:31Speaker 4: stop him, and he's like, no, no, no, I just
- 57:33Speaker 4: I just want to discuss this with him, all right,
- 57:35Speaker 4: just just take it easy, and.
- 57:36Speaker 2: He just grabs them go you got pictures?
- 57:38Speaker 3: Right?
- 57:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that really cracked me up. I liked it a lot.
- 57:43Speaker 2: And then he's like, kick me out, would you kick
- 57:44Speaker 2: me out? Take out of the game, kick me out
- 57:46Speaker 2: of gas? So funny. I love that, so so funny.
- 57:51Speaker 4: I love the like Strap I think is his name,
- 57:56Speaker 4: when he prays every time, That like recurring bit was
- 57:59Speaker 4: really fun. And the one where they're like team and
- 58:02Speaker 4: then he prays over Allie the little guy because he
- 58:05Speaker 4: has to go into the game or whatever.
- 58:07Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, let's make this, let's make this a
- 58:09Speaker 2: good one.
- 58:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 58:10Speaker 4: That was a online I really liked that. I loved
- 58:15Speaker 4: the major league guy. What's his name, Chelsea, Chelsea House. Look, mister,
- 58:21Speaker 4: there's two kinds of dump. There's the guy that gets
- 58:23Speaker 4: naked and runs out in the snow and barks at
- 58:25Speaker 4: the moon and the guy who does it in the
- 58:27Speaker 4: same who does the same thing in my living room.
- 58:30Speaker 2: The first one don't matter, and the second one you
- 58:32Speaker 2: kind of forced to deal with. That was a great one.
- 58:37Speaker 2: And that happens like was that a threat? It's like no,
- 58:40Speaker 2: but also yes, and he's like, get the hell out
- 58:42Speaker 2: of here. Basically it was really fun. I thought that
- 58:45Speaker 2: was a great, great one.
- 58:48Speaker 4: Uh, the sun don't shine on the same dog's ass
- 58:51Speaker 4: every day. But mister, you ain't seen a ray of
- 58:54Speaker 4: light since you got here. I believe it's time we
- 58:57Speaker 4: had a talk.
- 58:58Speaker 2: I thought that was great. By the the Grandma, the mob,
- 59:01Speaker 2: the Future. Sun don't shine on the same dogs ass
- 59:06Speaker 2: every day. Yeah, what a line. We don't have that
- 59:10Speaker 2: one in Minnesota. No, No, that's saying didn't make it here.
- 59:13Speaker 2: I don't know what I've got some more about anyone else?
- 59:17Speaker 2: Have any runners up? They want to say? Was there
- 59:21Speaker 2: was one? Uh?
- 59:22Speaker 5: Oh put this down here?
- 59:26Speaker 2: Oh it was the it's kind of a what's his face?
- 59:30Speaker 5: Kind of showing the hostility to act in here. I
- 59:32Speaker 5: don't know why I cleaned his drug year old tired
- 59:34Speaker 5: boats in here. He must have showed you something fierce.
- 59:36Speaker 5: In fact, yes, yes, you're screwing up this team, and
- 59:41Speaker 5: I'll personally hide strap your ass to a pine rail
- 59:44Speaker 5: and send you up the mona on line, which moan
- 59:46Speaker 5: online is like a real, a real Inhana reference right there,
- 59:49Speaker 5: the Monon Trail and the Monona.
- 59:52Speaker 2: Uh it's not defunct railroad line.
- 59:55Speaker 5: There's a ton of mon On stuff in Indiana.
- 59:57Speaker 2: So I love that. Nice. That was colorful.
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: His his talk there was great, like yeah he was, Yeah,
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: he had some good ones. I also loved when the
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: teacher was like, just stay away from Jimmy. I don't
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: want him coaching in Hickory when he's fifty.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: I was like, damn, that's a tough one.
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: And that feels like designed for the nineties, Like guys like,
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: that's like advance for its time, you know.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Yeah, she was throwing shade before it was even shade.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: Yeah, who knew?
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Who knew? Oh and one other funny one when those
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: two meet at the very beginning and Acman goes, you know,
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: if everyone here is as nice as you, country hospitality
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: is going to get an awful name. What a thing
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: to say. That was great, What a thing to say.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Those are all the ones I wrote down though nice
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: We've said a bunch of them too. So yeah, well
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: let's keep going. Let's let's do bugs boohoo moments I
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: picked six boo, who's in this? Buddy picked.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so uh we got up to six. You have
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: to let me know if I'm correct or if there's more.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: When Hackman goes to Hopper to his house, offers him
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: the job, but he's like, hey, you're embarrassing your son
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: big time, big time. That was intense. Great scene too,
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: when uh, Hopper's son is like you did good, you
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: did real good pop or something. Yeah, that's great. When
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Hackman meets Hopper, who is clearly going through withdrawals at
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: at the rehab spot, and is He's like shivering and
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: crying and I'm so proud of you. That was intense. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: when Hopper's kid comes to the rehab I think you
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: brought that up absolutely true a couple of times. Yes,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: when Jimmy hits the buzzer beater, yeah, HiPE tears, maybe
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: hype tears, yes, specifically hype tears for I'll make it. Yeah,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: just like, oh dude, and you know you want to
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: like drop the right.
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: Place, but you also want your best player right to
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: be like, yeah, no, we're no doubt, don't worry about it,
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: you know, like.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: That's right, we got this. Love that. And then I
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: just had the close up of the picture in the
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: gym while that kid is just draining shot after shot
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: after shot. Yes, but it has, you know, a lot
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: of the poignant lines that Hackman is saying, and it
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: ends with I love you guys. Doesn't he say in
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: that like this is your team or something like that
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: at some point. But yes, loved all that, so so good.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Those are the six that I had. Were there more bohoos?
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: There were I've gotta I got a couple that robbed
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: me here that I guess guess on here, Rob, you
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: got a lot that I did not get here, So
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: I I, uh, I thought, maybe this is your this
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: is your team speech that you know, standing in front
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: of uh, you know, the guy standing in front of
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: a hostile crowd in front of six kids. Stuff like
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: that was like pretty you know, to drinking that.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: I loved that, that's for sure.
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: One that was okay cool uh And you might have
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: hit part of this, Rob. But but Shooter checking into rehab,
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: like the scene where he kind of just walks up,
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: doesn't say much right, like something like I need help
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: or something like that. Super low dialogue but kind of
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: like a crushing sort of scene is emotional.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: I don't think I cried in that spot. I think
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: I cried more later. But yeah, that's a good. Yeah.
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: I had the final shot Shooter watching his son play
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: from rehab have like hypecares. I didn't know if that
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: was the listening on the radio.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, I kind of just looped all that
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: into the yeah right at that point.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: But yeah, yeah, absolutely I loved those are the ones
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: I had.
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: Nice, nice, for sure, there's some overlaps, so tell me
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: if you think these count I loved I think it's
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: in the scene where there the like town meeting scene
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: when he's like, I'm very proud of these boys and
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: then she like goes.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: Up and she does very emotion. That really got me. Yeah,
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: probably because she was so like she was really Yeah,
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: I really loved that. I thought that was great. And
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: then like, I guess I'll count these as one. But
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Jimmy coming coach or if I stay I play coach
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: days that whole. Yeah, yeah, that's still the same.
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: Specifically the lines of when they're in the scene that
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: I keep talking about in the rehab. But it was
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: like I love you Dad, so oh I wish I
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: could be there and he's like I'll be thinking, you know,
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: it's just like oh yeah, so sweet and like not
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: that's not the end of that conversation, which I think
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: is so beautiful too, because like there's a future now,
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: you know, like they talk about, you know, when he
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: gets out and all that stuff.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: I just think that's so beautiful. They're going to get
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: a place together. Yeah, it's just so it's lovely. Oh
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: and I really liked this was the last one, but
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: it was up top.
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: Uh when the kid and I don't remember his name,
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: so I apologize, but the kid comes back after leaving,
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: like his dad.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: Brings him back. Yeah, and then he has to apologize
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: and all that.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: I just like, that's such a that's such an apparent
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: thing to have to do with kids. I mean maybe
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: not that exact thing, but you know, like, no, you
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: did something wrong or whatever, you got.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: To go and make it right. I just think that
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: he's real confused. And then that guy becomes like his
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: biggest supporter, which is great, which I love. Yeah, so fun.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: But yeah, so that was nine.
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: I think that's a good Yeah, that's a good one.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Emotional but love it. Let's do a little movie true
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: Rebia here. Yeah. I already stomped on a lot of it. Sorry, okay, no,
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: no worries. I had quite a few, so, uh, just
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: forgive me if I read them again, I'll try to stop.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: But the oh, I thought this was so cool.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: The scene with Jimmy and coach Dale when he's on
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: like the dirt patch and he's just making the hoops
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: and he's like, you know, I don't care if you play.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: Apparently that was all filmed in one take and he
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: was just nailing shots and the Maris, the guy who
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: played Jimmy, said he wasn't even listening to him. I
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: was just concentrating on making the shots. I made one,
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: and they just kept going in.
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: And I think that's just like kind of magical. I
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: love that, you know, just you just kept training them
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: so fun.
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: Let's see, we said the thing about the spinning, which
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: I think is hilarious that Dennis Hopper did, which is great. Oh,
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: in the locker room before the final game, on the
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: blackboard are the names of all the opposing players, but
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: these are actually the real last names of the actors
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: who make up the Hickory team.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: Which I thought, what a nice homage to them.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: That's super cool and like a thing, you know, what
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: a fun thing to have that doesn't, you know, get
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: in the way, but is also a beautiful moment.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: I love stuff like that. Yeah, that's cool. We have
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: all the stuff about Gene Hackman is being a butthole. Yes, yeah,
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: it was just really tough.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: But I did think this was cool. So he was
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: kind of being a jerk throughout the whole movie, and
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: they needed him to come in and do some you know,
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: some recutting of some of the audio because to re
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: say some of his lines, and the David Ansba said, Angelo,
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: and I knew that if he didn't like the rough cut,
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: he wouldn't show up for the studio to re record
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: his dialogue. But he did show up and he walked
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: in the room, he took his glasses off, he looked
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: me in the eyes, and he said.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: How the hell did you do that?
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: Which was pretty great, so he was he was on
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: board then once he saw the rough cut and was like,
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: I guess this is a good movie, you know, So
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: that's nice. It wasn't animosity the whole way through or anything.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: I always think it's fun to hear international market titles.
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: So this movie was renamed best Shot in International Markets
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: because most people outside the US wouldn't know what a
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: hoosier is, and that makes a ton of sense. I
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: don't know if I know what a who is a
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: hoosier an actual thing.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: It's somebody.
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: It's somebody from Indiana, That's what it is.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: It is it works for me. That works for me.
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: I don't know if we said we sort of talked
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: about this, but this was the This is based on
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: the nineteen fifty four state championship game, which inspired the
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: movie's final game. It was played between the Milan Indians
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: and the Munseee Central Bearcats. Milan won thirty two to thirty.
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: So it was a barn burner, barn burner, barn burner. Oh,
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: so many passes and picks to get opened in nineteen
- 1:09:17Speaker 5: fifty four.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Oh, and they used to just hold the ball, you know, forever. Yeah,
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: they didn't have the twenty four second crazy clock, so
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: it could just pass all day long crazy. And I
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: thought this was really cool. An actual Milin Indian guard
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: who was on that team, Ray Kraft, was in this movie.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: So he's the guy who greets them.
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: When they get to the state finals, that like welcomes
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: them into the big the big stadium. And he also
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: is the one who tells coach Dale. He comes into
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: the locker room and he's like, it's time to take
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: the court, coach. So that guy was in that game,
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: which I think is really cool.
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: I thought that was a fun one. We have more
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: of the being a butthole, so that's fun and we'll
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: skip the hat including. Actually this one's kind of funny.
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: There's in the winning there's like the little montage of
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: the winning string of games, Dale is shown saying something
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: to shoot her on the bench that makes shoot her laugh.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: Uh And years later uh, Dave Ansball learned.
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: What it was, and apparently Gene Hackman had told him Hopper,
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: I hope you invested well, because you and I are
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: never going to work after this movie.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: This is a career ending film for both of us.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: And that made him laugh. So fun it does so
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: many movies. How could you be so just unaware of
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: what you do like this?
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: Yeah, A bit of trivia just tied into it. I
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: heard that. I read that Jack nickl Jack Nicholson was
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: set to cast for that role, but it had some
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: sort of lawsuit or legal entanglement that prohibited from the
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: production of it. Sounds like, you know, Jack Nicholson in
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: the eighties. I don't know what it was, but he
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: fell out and Jeane came in and here it is
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: sort of thing.
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: So maybe I was just working with a bunch of
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: like you know, they weren't actors, these kids, so like
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: maybe I don't know.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe maybe it was that happy. I don't know.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: I mean, I know, you just thought that, like the
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: production quality was very low and Yeah, just assumed that
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: it wouldn't look very good. Sure, Yeah, that's pretty crazy.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: Nicholson in that role would have been great too. Yeah,
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: he would have killed that for sure, And they were right.
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: I would imagine that would have been a fund of
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: production to be on.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Probably, yes, probably. Uh.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: This is the craziest piece of trivia I've ever heard.
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: Shed Woolley, who portrays Principal Cleatis, the man who hires
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: coach Dale, was the composer and singer of Flying Purple
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: People Lead, which is weird enough already.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: But he's also the source of the Willhelm screen scream,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: which we've heard in nine hundred thousand different things over
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: the years.
- 1:12:13Speaker 5: Isn't that nuts that he committed the concept or he's
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: like the kind of like he is.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: They say he's the source, so I think he screamed it.
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: He's the he's the audio on it.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Wow, that's what I'm taking.
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: That's crazy, which is wild, that's wild, and.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: It's in so many things. That's just so many things.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: I loved that trivia. I think that's very silly and fun.
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: The actor playing Alie once left the set to watch
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: his high school team play basketball. He was a senior
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: on the team when he got the role and was
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: feeling homesick, so he's just decided to go watch him.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: The crew had to contact his mother to get him
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: to return.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: I mean, that's been wild. Sound giving up your senior year.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: I mean, I know it's for a movie and all that,
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: but that'd be tough. I don't know, it'd be hard.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Steve Holler played basketball for DePaul University at the time
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: of filming. When the movie was released, the NC double
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: A wanted to penalize him for playing basketball for money,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: which is fair. Uh.
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: The NC double A eventually ruled that he'd been hired
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: as an actor, not as a basketball player.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: We're skirting the rules here, but he got He still
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: got a.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: Three game suspension and was told to return five percent
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: of his pay, which I pray.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: To god he never did, because that's the duest thing
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: I've ever heard.
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: N C double A messing things up for forty five
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: years sick, seriously.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: Tail as old as time.
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: We said the thing about Hopper was supposed to come back,
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: and he talked him out of it, which I think.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: Is the best there was.
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: Apparently there was a did you catch this Tree? Stradios?
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: There was a three hour cut of this movie that
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: they had cut down in two hours because the distribu
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: went nuts. No I'm must have missed, and apparently the
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: stuff has been the extra hour has been basically lost,
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: which is unfortunate. But the directors have spoken about how
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: how they the first cut on this thing they delivered
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: to the distributor was was nearly three hours and they
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: wanted to get it down or two wow. And on
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: the other end of things too, I've read that the
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: directors and the producers like in this movie. I feel
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: like it pops up a lot on whatever versant or TNT,
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: sort of like vibes this time of year, especially around
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: you know, March madness. Apparently the the directors and producers
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: have kind of disowned the tea they made for TV
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: cuts because they've cut out some important scenes for things.
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: And they actually they actually changed their names and the
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: credits to like something slightly different in the last name
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: for TV cuts. That's so much they don't like them, huh.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: Crazy, Yeah, Yeah, I saw that a lot of the
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: stuff that they had to cut out was Norman and
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: Myra's like budding romance, which would have given us more yeah,
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: more of Myra, which was one of my critiques. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: I hear that interesting, But yeah, I don't know that.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: I don't want to see a three hour cut of
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: this movie. Yeah, I feel I don't know if I
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: needed it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get that.
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: My last little bit of trivia that I had was Maris,
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: who plays Jimmy, was told that when he shot that
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: last shot, even if he missed the last basket right
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: on the first attempt, the fans were still going to
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: rush the floor in celebrations so they could get that
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: shot and then they'd give them another chance later. But
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: when the cameras rolled, he made the shot in his
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: first attempt, even though he had apparently missed it repeatedly
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: during rehearsals. So I just think that's another like just
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: little magic moment of like, oh he made it when
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: it counted, you know, and gave us that like great
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: scene because it would have been kind of a bummer
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: have to cut between probably maybe you want to notice,
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: but it's fun to have it work out.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: I like that. Yeah, I love it. That was all
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: I had. Rob, did you see any other stuff? Just
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: another guy that was up for a role. Harry Dean
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Stanton turned down the role of shooter be It would
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: have been great at that. He would have been great
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: at that. He regretted it. Couldn't remember his reasons for
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: declining it, but definitely regretted it. Mentioned that in twenty
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: thirteen and then yeah, just that Jack Nicholson was originally
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: set for that role. That's great. Did you have any
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: other trivia, Luke that we didn't get to.
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: I had a little bit of just like Indiana specific trivia,
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: just kind of peeking out about the state too, because
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: I think so much why I love this movie is
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: it's like just a general love letter to the state
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: of Indiana and small towns in Indiana. New Richmond, where
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: all the barn scenes and town scenes are from, was
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: like where where my grandmother's from, where I have cousins
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: at still and so it's still very much there. The
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: gym and Knightstown has been classified as a historical landmark
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: by both the town of the state and as a
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: community center and kind of like a place where you
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: can go visit for any fans of the movie. It
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: talks a little bit about I Shaa basketball, which was
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: Indiana's you know, high school athletics program. But what was
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: kind of crazy about Indiana athletics, they were like relatively
- 1:17:20Speaker 5: late in terms of like drawing up classes like you know,
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: quadruple A, triple A.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: You know, single A.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: So for like almost like I think it's like it
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: was like nineteen what I read here, from nineteen eleven
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: all the way to nineteen ninety nine, it's like eighty
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: almost eighty, almost ninety years there were no classes. So
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: in fifty four when that game happened, it was it
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: was a it was a high school of one hundred
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: and sixty one students planning against a team that was
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: fielded from Munsey, which had over sixteen hundred students at it.
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: Like it just like that's how the Indiana sports ran
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: for like, you know, nine decades basically, So you could
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: be a you know, a tiny two hundred person school,
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: which there are many in Indiana because there are big, large,
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: kind of low density population, you know towns, and these
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: these farming counties against some you know Indiana or Bloomington
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: or or you know Fort Wayne sized town that's going
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: to field seventeen dinner people at it. So it does
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: create these kind of like awesome storytelling David Goliath stories
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: by just the sort of mismanagement of conference play in
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: high school sports. And so I think the movie does
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: a great job but just kind of capturing something like
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: really just doesn't exist anymore now. It's all big big
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: schools by big schools, small schools far small schools.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: Sort of yehould as it probably.
- 1:18:42Speaker 5: Should be, right, but more competitive, but also like you know,
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: doesn't create stories like this, right, you know, like it's
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: not the David Glass sort of things. We mentioned it
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: a little bit earlier, but from from where Jimmy takes
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: that shot in Hinkle Arena, it's pretty much the same
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: spot that's Bobby Plump.
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: Took the shot.
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: I don't think Bobby Plumps still a lot, but he
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: has a restaurant called Plump's Last Shot, which is in
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: the Broad Lipple neighborhood of Indianapolis, and his son still
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: runs to this day. I did confirm it's open in Indiana.
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: Like one of the local delicacy sandwiches things is breaded tenderloins,
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: and if you like look up bredded tenderloins. If you're
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: a patron out there that like knows what a breaded
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: tenderline it is, it's this giant pork tendor loin pounded
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: to be like the size of like two plates with
- 1:19:29Speaker 5: like a tiny bun and like a pickle of it
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: between it. Yeah, I mean I'm actually in like a
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: like this is it sounds all, but it's a Facebook
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: group of people that like rate the best gas station
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: pork tender lines. Like I I've like contributed and like
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: gotten advice from this place. But it's like it's a
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: stable sandwich that is out there. And Plump slash shot
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: has been multiple times by uh, like the the Indiana
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: sort of like culinary institution people. We'll have called it
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: the best portende in the state. So come visiting sea.
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: So yeah that was uh and yeah, I just I
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: think we touched plenty on like all the extras, just
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: kind of being like, you know, they literally cast it
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: on radio stations, you.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Know people, that's so cool.
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: The people that you see in those crowdshows just the
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: players why people the crowd shots are actual accousias that
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: showed up, you know, so really super authentic Indiana through
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: and through throughout it. They took painstaking the effort to
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: kind of cast and stock the movie with those sorts
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: of people.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: Love that very cool man, Yeah, I love it. Will
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: there be a sequel judgment Day No, No.
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: Maybe yeah, and thank God to be honest, like, we
- 1:20:46Speaker 5: don't need it.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so we don't need another one. Hackman would go
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: on to play another coach, played a football coach in
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: The Replacements. You did a good job. It was great.
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: That was a great movie. Yeah, also like nineteen percent
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: on Rotten Tomatoes because I feel like that would be
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: the type of but I really enjoyed it.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we did that. I think right after he
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: passed maybe maybe, I'm like, are you looking it up? Yeah?
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: I mean there's just think of the sports movies that
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: like that had. There's so many, like they had sequels.
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: I mean, but like we're unnecessary, like I didn't need
- 1:21:18Speaker 5: I didn't need You League too, right, I like, yeah,
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: I think I think two for Mighty Ducks probably was
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: better than cool. But we did not need D three
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: for sure.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: You know, so I think, yeah, no, really three start
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: from from du You love D three? No, I love
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: D two.
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: Two is like I think better than one, right, Like
- 1:21:43Speaker 5: I like there were like more.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: Well that's not good.
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: It's like crazy replacements forty by critics and sixty six
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: by audience.
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: Okay, there you go.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: That'd be like our highest rated movie this year, so
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: this year, Yeah, for sure. Probably not. Probably not a secret.
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: Probably you guys want to play a game, y, just
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: do it. I made a starting five, which is pretty
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: uh at propose. Yeah, So I'm gonna name my five
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: favorite actors from a particular film. When you know the film,
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: you're going to ring in with your name, so I
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: know who is ringing it. If you get it wrong,
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: there won't be any negative points, but you won't be
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: able to guess again for that movie. If there are
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: actors' names remaining, you can guess those for a point each.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: The other person can steal if you get any of
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: those names wrong. And all of these films have something
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: in common. When you know the theme, you can ring
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: it at anytime for a point. Okay, here we go.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: Number one. The first name is Ashley Judd ooh, the
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: second name Tom Sizemore, The third name is Val Kilmer,
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: the fourth name Robert de Niro, and the fifth and
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: final name is al Pacino. I did just watch Heat.
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: It is Heat.
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: Heat.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: Just watch its Heat, which is getting a sequel with
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: Leo and Christian Bale. It's gonna be insane. I'll watch
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: that that sounds fun. Yeah, that sounds fun. Did just
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: read that today? It might be another April Fools thing?
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: I'm not sure, but I do think that. Yeah, I
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: feel like I've heard that too.
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: Yeah, Tom God, Yeah.
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: I loved Tom Sizemore. He definitely was battling some some demons,
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: but I did love him. Let's go number two. The
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: first name is Olivia Wilde. The second name is Ruoney Mara,
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: The third name is Amy Adams, the fourth name is
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: Scarlett Johansson, and the fifth and final name is Joaquin
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: Phoenix Bukes bugs her her Oh ye, Scarlet Johansson is
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: the voice the AI Lady. Yes, I go number three. Uh.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: The first name is Eddie mars Sand. The second name, though,
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: is Thomas Lennon. Oh yep, forgot he was in this movie.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: The third name is Jason Bateman. Oh. Number four Charley's Theron,
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: and the fifth and final name Big Willie Style will Smith,
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: Luke Hancock Hancock. Nicely done, brok, I love it. Do
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: you guys have any idea what the theme is? Use?
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: What is it? Is? It just movies that are one
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: word and it starts with a H. That's it. You
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: got it. One word titles, and they will all start
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: with age. I was like, is Thomas Lennon in Hitch
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: that whole time? Oh so you were already there? I
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: got there like as we started, those names got you okay?
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: Oh sorry, that might be coming up. Whoopsies, we'll see
