- 0:00Speaker 1: Just trying to figure out if I'm abnormal or not.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's one more thing I'm strong andy, one more thing I.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Think we can answer that is there going to be
- 0:09Speaker 2: a vote?
- 0:12Speaker 1: Don't even need to know the context? No, No, Matt,
- 0:16Speaker 1: We're good.
- 0:17Speaker 3: No question as phrased, was plenty.
- 0:24Speaker 1: You know, to a certain extent. I'll admit I might
- 0:27Speaker 1: be an outlier, but on a number of things. But
- 0:32Speaker 1: everybody you know, like if you really know them, the
- 0:35Speaker 1: whole idea of like normal or average or whatever, because
- 0:38Speaker 1: like everybody you know, like really know, don't they have
- 0:42Speaker 1: like some serious quirks, every single one of them. I
- 0:46Speaker 1: can't think of anybody I like, really really know, maybe
- 0:49Speaker 1: outside my mom and dad. My mom and dad really
- 0:51Speaker 1: don't have any but I don't know.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean mostly sure, Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I think everybody was so so the range of normal
- 1:04Speaker 1: that we generally think of in our minds, just for
- 1:06Speaker 1: thinking of the population a whole, is much narrower than
- 1:10Speaker 1: my real experience now as a person with a number
- 1:13Speaker 1: of quirks. Maybe a hang around other people with other
- 1:16Speaker 1: people who have lots of quirks also, which is almost
- 1:18Speaker 1: certainly true. But I just think the range of normals
- 1:20Speaker 1: way wider than we tend to.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, our public face, our presentation of ourselves
- 1:29Speaker 3: is much more tailored than the reality. When you really
- 1:32Speaker 3: get to know somebody, you know, as Seinfeld put it,
- 1:35Speaker 3: you see their side, their other side or whatever. I
- 1:38Speaker 3: just sure, yeah, and it's fine.
- 1:41Speaker 4: One of my dearest actually Greg Greg Gory. He came
- 1:44Speaker 4: on one of the podcasts back last summer. He is
- 1:48Speaker 4: so clean, like there are you go into his house,
- 1:51Speaker 4: you just don't want to touch anything. But one of
- 1:53Speaker 4: his biggest annoyances is when the condiments are lined up
- 1:57Speaker 4: in the labels don't line up with each other. So
- 2:00Speaker 4: I used to whenever I'd go over to his house,
- 2:02Speaker 4: I'd like twist the ketchup bottle like a quarter of
- 2:04Speaker 4: an inch to the left.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Wow.
- 2:10Speaker 1: So why do you think we act like there's a
- 2:16Speaker 1: normal range that's a much more narrow band than is
- 2:19Speaker 1: our life experience. I wonder why I've never even really
- 2:21Speaker 1: thought about this before.
- 2:22Speaker 3: You know, I think this may fit into the I
- 2:25Speaker 3: really need to come up with a name for this concept.
- 2:29Speaker 3: The speed limit on the highway is not seventy because
- 2:33Speaker 3: they want everybody to do seventy. It's because they don't
- 2:36Speaker 3: want people to do one hundred, So it's not in
- 2:40Speaker 3: our our concept of normal isn't enforced. But stay within,
- 2:45Speaker 3: you know, shouting distance of it, you know what I'm saying.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm trying to go through people in my head though,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and like every person that, like, I really know, and
- 2:53Speaker 1: if you don't really know somebody, then then you don't know.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But everybody that I really know has got like a
- 2:59Speaker 1: couple of things that are pretty.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Wacky, and we're gauging that off of except for me,
- 3:06Speaker 3: I mean obviously, but go on clearly, but we're gauging
- 3:11Speaker 3: that off of like our normal.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Like, there are people that I know that I think
- 3:14Speaker 4: are just weirder than hell, and they've got a whole
- 3:16Speaker 4: group of people that are weird as hell like them,
- 3:18Speaker 4: and they think that's normal.
- 3:20Speaker 3: True.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so that gets back to my I'm pretty quirky,
- 3:22Speaker 1: so I tend to hang around quirky people because people
- 3:25Speaker 1: that aren't quirky wouldn't be interested to me and vice versa.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So yeah, so you got that.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Right. Yeah, it's probably one of the reasons I'm actually
- 3:35Speaker 3: pretty tolerant of people with different political views. It's because
- 3:38Speaker 3: I've spent my life among musicians. Half of them are
- 3:42Speaker 3: completely nuts or wrong about everything, but they're lovely people. Yeah, anyway,
- 3:48Speaker 3: I just don't want them in charge.
- 3:50Speaker 1: This is a pretty bland question that I've got for
- 3:54Speaker 1: the setup that I put out there. But what temperature
- 4:00Speaker 1: you I'm going to ask everybody here because I'm trying
- 4:01Speaker 1: to figure out how close to normal I am. What
- 4:04Speaker 1: temperature do you keep the house at at night? Michael?
- 4:07Speaker 1: What do you set thermostat at at night?
- 4:10Speaker 5: Probably route seventy?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Okay, Katie just responded with a wide eyed flinch. What
- 4:17Speaker 1: do you keep it at?
- 4:18Speaker 2: I keep it at sixty six, sixty seven.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I could never sleep at seventy now almost exactly the
- 4:23Speaker 1: same on the chili side. Yeah, answer, I couldn't sleep
- 4:27Speaker 1: any of the season. Is that where you find most
- 4:28Speaker 1: comfortable or most financially comfortable? Financially comfortable, right, because there's
- 4:32Speaker 1: a difference.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I would like sixty eight or sixty seven.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Probably.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I put my thermostat at whatever makes me comfortable, comfortable,
- 4:39Speaker 1: regardless of finances. Even when I was well and I
- 4:42Speaker 1: was poor, I didn't run the air conditioner at all.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I mean, my roommates, we'd lay on the couch in
- 4:46Speaker 1: shorts sleep all night long with the doors and windows
- 4:49Speaker 1: wide open. So we didn't die because we just there
- 4:52Speaker 1: was no freaking wake. We could afford air conditioning. It
- 4:54Speaker 1: wasn't even even a question of turning on. I didn't
- 4:57Speaker 1: end up speaking of court. People hanging around, hang around
- 5:00Speaker 1: people like yourself, everybody I knew, girlfriends, whatever. Nobody ran
- 5:03Speaker 1: their air conditioner. Nobody, because like I had one girlfriend
- 5:07Speaker 1: who lived with their parents, So you go over there,
- 5:08Speaker 1: they had air condisriering. We'd go to the mall for
- 5:10Speaker 1: air conditioning. But but anyway, once I started making some money,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I decided, I'm going to keep it comfortable in my house.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I don't care if I have to walk to work
- 5:18Speaker 1: or donate plasma. This is one thing I'm going to do.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I'm going to keep it comfortable mass But seventy seems
- 5:23Speaker 1: a little warm to me.
- 5:24Speaker 3: All right, it is too warm?
- 5:25Speaker 1: Sorry, you wish it were cooler.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm changing it. After what you just said, I'm
- 5:30Speaker 5: going to change my ways.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Not get down a couple of degrees. Get to yourself.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I would have cheaper I would eat cheaper food before
- 5:37Speaker 1: I would give up the comfortable temperature at night.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Definitely, Yeah, still groceries. It's legal in California. Michael, how
- 5:44Speaker 3: it's not illegal.
- 5:45Speaker 1: How about during the day, what do you keep it at?
- 5:49Speaker 1: Same same?
- 5:50Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, same summers. Oh in the really you keep
- 5:54Speaker 3: it like sixty seven when it's one hundred and three
- 5:57Speaker 3: out Katie, And then I would well, are we talking
- 6:01Speaker 3: about during sleeping?
- 6:03Speaker 1: What do you keep it at during the day? Joe
- 6:05Speaker 1: is astonished. So what are you going with the daytime temperature?
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yeah? You Joe, Uh well, it depends on the season
- 6:13Speaker 3: of the year. I mean, you just.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Don't go comfort. Only comfort. The only number I care about.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Is I'm talking about comfort. Interrupt this, Maximus. If you
- 6:24Speaker 3: come in from one hundred and four degree day, seventy
- 6:27Speaker 3: six is pretty damn call.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I couldn't live in a house. It's oh my god.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I would run screaming from a home that was so okay,
- 6:36Speaker 1: no way, yeah, that would be honestly, you know what,
- 6:39Speaker 1: I think.
- 6:40Speaker 3: We keep it seventy four, seventy three something like that.
- 6:42Speaker 3: But if you keep it way cooler than that, right.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that'd be way too hot for You're.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Always wearing a freaking suit, throwing some shorts. That's the
- 6:50Speaker 3: thing I'm wearing soccer shorts and a T shirt.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Joe and judyist. So that's what he wants to leave on.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But it is cooler personal. So your daytime temperature hot day, Katie,
- 7:02Speaker 1: probably sixty eight. Yeah, I'm closer to that.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not like polar bears. Well I'm much it is.
- 7:10Speaker 4: When I get hot, I get pissed. Yeah, so around
- 7:13Speaker 4: angry all the time.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 4: So I like to keep it cool and even to
- 7:18Speaker 4: the point where it's like, if I start to get cold,
- 7:20Speaker 4: I can I can put a hoodie on.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Yep, exactly. I'll throw on a hoodie in my house
- 7:23Speaker 1: because it's too cool.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 3: See, I feel like a sin layer of sweat makes
- 7:27Speaker 3: me glow.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I think they didn't that special listening exactly.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And Michael, hot day inside, your temperature is.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Uh definitely uh nope, sixty nine.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I'd say, yeah, okay, that's pretty cool. Yeah, and this
- 7:41Speaker 1: is also uh a thing if you live with somebody else,
- 7:47Speaker 1: These are not minor concerns if you live with somebody else.
- 7:51Speaker 1: You know, you and Judy have been together so long.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I don't know what point you came together on your
- 7:55Speaker 1: temperatures or if you just agreed from the beginning. But
- 7:58Speaker 1: you have to have to come to an agreement on
- 8:00Speaker 1: these sorts of things. And some people are hot blooded
- 8:02Speaker 1: and some people are cold blooded and whatever.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Had this conversation one time, and one time only got
- 8:08Speaker 4: freezing in my house.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Looked at droom.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Is the ac on?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:11Speaker 3: Whatever?
- 8:13Speaker 2: Sixty one degrees?
- 8:14Speaker 1: Sixty one's chilly?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Oh boy, wow, it's.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Like, are you okay? Are you trying to kill me?
- 8:21Speaker 2: So he's been keeping meat good of somewhere.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I don't know if sixty one is chilly.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that happened because it's.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Regularly, for whatever reason, the thermostat in the studio resets
- 8:32Speaker 1: to sixty four on the weekends, and when we walk
- 8:34Speaker 1: in here on Monday mornings, it's freaking cold. If sixty
- 8:37Speaker 1: four feels like that, it's sixty one.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Wow, Well in the fans on high so you have
- 8:42Speaker 3: to work in the wind chill too. That feels like
- 8:44Speaker 3: it is like fifty four.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But you don't have your fridge. You can just leave
- 8:49Speaker 1: the fridge door open and unplugged and everything. Stay your meat,
- 8:53Speaker 1: your condiments, everything's good because it's sixty one.
- 8:55Speaker 2: In your house, orderline frozen.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Yeah, So speaking of the meat, and condiments. Uh. And
- 9:00Speaker 3: and your your buddy with the all of these condiments
- 9:04Speaker 3: have to be faced. As you say, in the grocery business, uh,
- 9:07Speaker 3: and also in the bank teller business. Judy and I
- 9:09Speaker 3: share this. We have got to if I have cash
- 9:13Speaker 3: in my wallet, the bills must be faced. They must
- 9:17Speaker 3: all be facing the same way. If they're like a mishmash,
- 9:19Speaker 3: one's upside down, ones backwards and all, I can't stand it.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Mine just have to be an order. They don't have
- 9:25Speaker 2: to be faced.
- 9:27Speaker 5: They have to be faced.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I have a yeah, I'm I'm. If I've got a
- 9:31Speaker 1: little bit of time, they don't have to be faced,
- 9:34Speaker 1: but I will do it if I've got a couple
- 9:35Speaker 1: of seconds. Make sure they're all turned the same direction.
- 9:37Speaker 1: But the order thing got to be the twenties on
- 9:39Speaker 1: the inside, then tens and fives and ones as I
- 9:42Speaker 1: got them fold in my pocket. Gotta be. I can't
- 9:44Speaker 1: imagine walking around with them just.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Reverse pimprol small bills on the outside.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Well that's what I got, Yeah, my smallde oh I
- 9:53Speaker 1: thoctually have the big bills, fold it around my Costco card.
- 9:56Speaker 1: That's how I carry my cash.
- 9:58Speaker 2: So Joe h all of his one hundred dollars bills
- 10:01Speaker 2: inside the ones.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Well, and my thousands are inside the hundreds.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Yeah, my son has got one one hundred dollars bill
- 10:08Speaker 1: that he got from I don't know what, Grandma and
- 10:10Speaker 1: grandpa or something, and he likes to wrap that around
- 10:12Speaker 1: his money like he's a wrapper or something.
- 10:16Speaker 3: You know. Wow, I play in a fairly big golf
- 10:20Speaker 3: game every weekend with a bunch of different guys, and
- 10:22Speaker 3: you kick in twenty bucks in all, but somebody inevitably
- 10:24Speaker 3: shows up with like a hundred throws that in there,
- 10:27Speaker 3: and come on, come on, a flex. As I've said
- 10:32Speaker 3: many times in a lot of day to day life,
- 10:36Speaker 3: one hundred dollars bill, you might as well have a fish.
- 10:39Speaker 3: You're trying to go around and trade a fish for,
- 10:42Speaker 3: you know, that gallon of milker or you know, I
- 10:45Speaker 3: just need this and can you break that? And they
- 10:47Speaker 3: look at you. No, No, take your fish and go elsewhere.
- 10:51Speaker 1: When I used to get to break that, when I
- 10:53Speaker 1: used to travel around Mexico a lot, twenty was like that.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Twenty dollars in Mexico money might as well have been
- 10:58Speaker 1: a brick. No, he was going to have change for that.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Gosh, when I was bartending at a little dive bar
- 11:04Speaker 4: and I was like the midday shift, so it wasn't
- 11:07Speaker 4: crazy busy. There was this one guy that always came in.
- 11:10Speaker 4: All he ever had were fifty dollars bills and he
- 11:12Speaker 4: would buy one drink and I'd look at him and go,
- 11:15Speaker 4: have you not learned your lesson?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Like, we can't you keep breaking these?
- 11:18Speaker 1: You don't have your change from yesterday?
- 11:20Speaker 3: He was laundering money? Oh okay, probably or something, Yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 3: ozark like it's a little weird.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I had one more thought on that was it
- 11:32Speaker 1: the money? Oh so it's a little OCD right the
- 11:35Speaker 1: whole I can't walk around with either the money facing
- 11:38Speaker 1: the wrong direction or not in the right order. That's
- 11:40Speaker 1: because there's no logic behind that.
- 11:43Speaker 3: No, no, not per se. I mean I can recognize
- 11:45Speaker 3: a five dollar bill on the back to the numbers
- 11:47Speaker 3: right there. Yeah, I find that interesting.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Also speaking of quirks, is everybody's different levels of OCD.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Mine is quite mild, and I know more people. I
- 11:55Speaker 1: know people that have it more, but it's not to.
- 11:58Speaker 3: The like debilitating.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know what the proper medical term is
- 12:03Speaker 1: to do where you actually have to adjust your life
- 12:04Speaker 1: around like like my son. I mean, he's got OCD
- 12:06Speaker 1: do a level that he has to adjust his life
- 12:08Speaker 1: around it. And thank god, I don't have that. He
- 12:11Speaker 1: takes medicine for it. But you know, we've all got
- 12:13Speaker 1: a little bit of it.
- 12:14Speaker 5: I have that with parking in a parking space, I
- 12:17Speaker 5: have to get it just right, like right in the middle.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Well, that's pride, that's not OCD. That's being a man.
- 12:23Speaker 3: No offense, Katie.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I can't microwave anything on an odd number, just can't.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna cook it for twenty seconds or twenty four
- 12:32Speaker 1: seconds or eighteen seconds, but I ain't gonna do it
- 12:35Speaker 1: for nineteen seconds.
- 12:36Speaker 3: My car, you can set the temperature. I always go
- 12:40Speaker 3: in even increments, and I decided that was stupid, and
- 12:44Speaker 3: so now I'm disciplining myself to mix in some odd
- 12:46Speaker 3: increments so I don't get fixated.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Well, but the benefits are really you're really reaping the
- 12:51Speaker 1: benefits of this chain.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Well, well, there's a freedom in it, Jack. If I
- 12:55Speaker 3: want it to be seventy three, I set it at
- 12:57Speaker 3: seventy three. Damn it, God, I'm not gonna settle for
- 13:00Speaker 3: seventy two or oh sweltering seventy four.
- 13:03Speaker 1: No, I'm going to dial you know what I'm gonna
- 13:04Speaker 1: do that today. I want to warm up that fresh
- 13:06Speaker 1: bread to put butter on it. I'm gonna microwave it
- 13:09Speaker 1: for fourteen seconds. No, no, I did it again, fourteen seconds. Wow,
- 13:14Speaker 1: he's worse than we saw him touch a kitty. Yes,
- 13:18Speaker 1: I'll write an odd number like fourteen.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Are we three?
- 13:21Speaker 1: Now? Oh?
- 13:22Speaker 2: Wait, no, I'll try sixteen.
- 13:24Speaker 5: No, God, well, join us next time for when the
- 13:28Speaker 5: staff will discuss whether we whether we like partly cloudy,
- 13:31Speaker 5: mostly cloudy, or fully overcast conditions. Well, I guess that's it.
- 13:39Speaker 1: That is funny, Michael,
