- 0:37songs? It's Wednesday at 7, everybody.
- 0:41Hi guys. Hello, welcome.
- 0:45How are we doing? How is everybody?
- 0:48Yeah, not too bad. Thank you yourselves.
- 0:50Good. Yeah, we're doing good.
- 0:52We're very excited to have you very excited to learn all about
- 0:56your Wednesday at 7 life and hopefully a little bit about you
- 0:59as well. So thank you for joining us now
- 1:02at the beginning of the podcast, what we normally do is say hello
- 1:05and have a bit of general chit chat about what we've been up to
- 1:08this week. And yeah, just introduce
- 1:10ourselves to everybody. So you probably already know my
- 1:14name is Taylor. I am a 30 something.
- 1:16I don't like to give away my actual age, Mum.
- 1:19Of a little girl. Yes, yes, I am a teacher and I
- 1:22am a big lover of McFly and Busted.
- 1:25Shannon, do you want to introduce yourself to the band?
- 1:27I feel like I could just copy and paste that.
- 1:30You probably said that's why we get on so well.
- 1:34Yeah, Sham. I'm a 30 something.
- 1:36I'm. I'm not scared.
- 1:38I'm 32, thank you very much. Oh.
- 1:39Yeah, but you've given mine away because people know that we're
- 1:41the same age. That's fine, that's fine.
- 1:45Yeah, mum of two and yeah, big fan of McFly and Buster.
- 1:49There's not really much more about me.
- 1:51That is literally my whole personality.
- 1:55My whole personality is just nostalgia and children.
- 2:00So let's come over to you guys then.
- 2:02Do you guys want to introduce yourselves, tell us what your
- 2:05name is and what you do in the band?
- 2:07If we start with Rob, then we'll go to Ali, then we'll go to
- 2:10Ryan's. That work OK.
- 2:12Yeah, yeah, so good. So believe it or not, I'm Rob.
- 2:15I play bass in Wednesday at 7:00.
- 2:18I attempt backing vocals intermittently as well.
- 2:23I'm also 30 something. I will reveal my age as there's
- 2:27some sort of game. So you've got 5 seconds to guess
- 2:31and. 3. Oh yeah, bang on.
- 2:34There you go. They won.
- 2:35You've won. You've won absolutely nothing.
- 2:38Oh damn. It never mind.
- 2:43Amazing. Super.
- 2:44Thank you, Rob. Ali, do you want to introduce
- 2:46yourself to everybody? Yeah, hello.
- 2:48I'm Ali. I am the drummer of Wednesday at
- 2:517:00. I am not as as what's the word
- 2:55ripe as you guys in Asia. Yeah, I, I didn't.
- 3:00I don't wanna be offensive if you see.
- 3:03I think you probably could have chosen a better word, but I'll
- 3:05let you. Yeah, first time on the podcast.
- 3:07Yeah, Do you know what it's I blame?
- 3:10I blame ADHD. My brain doesn't work that that
- 3:12quick. Yeah.
- 3:13Blame your ADHD alright, I always do.
- 3:16I've gotta play that card where I can.
- 3:20Yeah. I mean, I am pretty much just
- 3:22the drums. I don't know.
- 3:23I'm not much else in the band. I feel like, to be fair, the
- 3:27drums. I am the drums.
- 3:28No, you need to have more faith in yourself.
- 3:30The drums, the main backbone of a band.
- 3:31You are the Harry Judd of Wednesday at 7.
- 3:33Do not. Think I am.
- 3:34I am. I wish I could be as good as
- 3:36Harry Judd, however. But I'm I'm sure one day.
- 3:39One day, yeah. There's always room for
- 3:41improvement, so yeah, you go. At least you've got your idol to
- 3:44look up to. That's all you need.
- 3:45Absolutely, yeah. Amazing.
- 3:47Thank you. Ali.
- 3:48Ryan, do you want to introduce yourself to everyone?
- 3:50Hi, I'm Ryan. I'm the singer and guitarist of
- 3:53Wednesday at Seven. I'm not a mum.
- 3:58What? Really.
- 4:00Yeah, believe it or not, I'm the one that sings the songs and
- 4:05writes the words and stuff. Yeah, we love it.
- 4:09We love it. You are the sound and the stuff.
- 4:13Amazing. Thank you so much.
- 4:15Our listeners are super excited to learn a little bit more about
- 4:18you. We've got lots of stuff going on
- 4:20at the moment. I think me and Shannon have been
- 4:23busy. Busy bees as always.
- 4:24Shannon, what have you been up to this week?
- 4:27Absolutely nothing. Nothing contradiction apart from
- 4:31like work, mothering and just doom scrolling.
- 4:35Although, although what I will say I live for a little rot on
- 4:39the sofa, you know, in a doom scrub.
- 4:41Yeah. Although I will say I'm very
- 4:44much looking forward to this weekend because for the first
- 4:46time since September I have a child free day.
- 4:50Oh my gosh. So I've been promised a trip.
- 4:53Honestly, I'm so excited. I've been promised a trip to
- 4:55Home Bargains and Greg's and that's literally all I could
- 4:57ever ask. Oh, wow.
- 4:59I mean, that is, yeah. Great.
- 5:04Do you know what's really sad? Do it again.
- 5:08Go on, Ryan. I'll let you do it again.
- 5:10OK, my name is Ryan and I'm a Greg's addict.
- 5:15Instead of the stuff it's in Greg's.
- 5:18The first, the first step to addiction is saying it out loud,
- 5:21so well done. Ryan, we're proud of you.
- 5:23Oh. Do you want to know something
- 5:25really sad? There's no Greg's in Cornwall.
- 5:27Like, not one. What?
- 5:29Seriously. I do not really liked Cornwall.
- 5:32Cool, lovely, right? Don't get me wrong, but there's
- 5:35no. Bringing.
- 5:35That's why no one, that's why no bands goes to Cornwall, That's
- 5:39why no. Yeah.
- 5:40'Cause there's no gregs. There's Gregs on everyone's
- 5:43roster that's. It Oh my God, honestly it's so
- 5:46frustrating. Like all I want is a bloody
- 5:48sausage roll. Like you know, that's it.
- 5:50That's all I need. Oh God.
- 5:53Well, that sounds exciting. Shannon.
- 5:54I'm up for a, a home bargains trip.
- 5:56Actually spent about half an hour there today.
- 5:58So, you know, love that I do not have a child free weekend.
- 6:02I have a 2 year old's birthday party to to attend to and last
- 6:05weekend I went to a one year old's birthday party.
- 6:07So you know, all things fun on my end over.
- 6:10Here you'll be with my kids this weekend because they are also
- 6:13going to the same birthday party.
- 6:15I will be. They are. 2nd mothering your
- 6:18children. Yes, that's all.
- 6:20My children are fine. Going to be living on ice cream
- 6:23and party rings. That's pretty much the only
- 6:24thing that's getting my brain through the weekend.
- 6:27It's all good, it's all good. Guys.
- 6:30What have you guys been up to? Have you done any sort of
- 6:32musical things? Beginning of this year,
- 6:34obviously we're only a few weeks into 2026.
- 6:37Have you had any gigs yet or have you got any plans?
- 6:40No, we've not really done much so far this year.
- 6:43We've had a little bit of a break after the the tour that we
- 6:46did the end of last year. Nice.
- 6:49I think we've all been quite busy, you know, as individual
- 6:52peoples, but we are starting to make progress and arrange things
- 6:59so that we can start working on new shiny things for people.
- 7:03Love it, so exciting. I always find the first like
- 7:07couple of weeks of the year really difficult.
- 7:10I feel like my brain is still in Christmas mode and I'm trying to
- 7:13like drag it off the sofa and kick.
- 7:16It hard reset. Yeah, I've really.
- 7:18It really is, isn't it? And it's like, Oh my God, how do
- 7:20I actually start doing things? I have like a little small
- 7:23business where I sell jewellery that I make and I'm like booking
- 7:26markets. And I feel like that's probably
- 7:28the same thing as like booking a gig, except you're guaranteed to
- 7:31get paid and I'm not. So you've probably got, you've
- 7:34got the better end of the deal here, but it's so.
- 7:37Stressful. Get paid for gigs.
- 7:41And not just voluntary. To be fair, I mean me and
- 7:44Shannon had our day. So me and Shannon are actually
- 7:47musical theatre graduates and back in the day we used to do a
- 7:50lot of busking, didn't you Shannon?
- 7:53We did love a bus and we used to live in Bristol and we did, we
- 7:57did a couple of very small paid gigs.
- 7:59I think we aren't like £20 for the one.
- 8:02If that. One or two things.
- 8:04It was so bad there were about 10 people at both of them, as in
- 8:09split, probably 5 at each and one of them was.
- 8:11Literally. And most of them were our
- 8:12family. Old men, our fam, our family or
- 8:15old men literally. And you can probably tell our
- 8:19kind of vibe is not old men vibe like they're they do not.
- 8:23Appreciate. The songs.
- 8:28That we wanted to play. I remember at one point we
- 8:30literally said, just to let you all know, we're actually going
- 8:33to sing a One Direction song in a minute.
- 8:35So yeah, we just wanted to give you a heads up like you can.
- 8:39Everybody left. There was nobody in there.
- 8:40It was just being shown and singing to ourselves.
- 8:43Yeah. So good.
- 8:45So fun. Fun and games.
- 8:46So fun and games. It's time for this or that.
- 8:52If you're new here, where have you been?
- 8:54But this is the section of the podcast where we share
- 8:56interesting or weird this or that's where we haven't shown
- 8:59each other our choices. So this week, Wednesday at 7
- 9:03have picked one for us and we have picked one for you.
- 9:07So who wants to go first? Do we want to put them in the
- 9:09spotlight first, Shan, or do you want to let them off easy?
- 9:13So Shannon's going to read you our first this or that.
- 9:15Off you go, Shan. OK, so a burned mix CD from
- 9:20Limewire with Sharpie labels and all of that Or an iPod nano
- 9:25click wheel playlist? OK, do you need to confer?
- 9:34I mean, I know my answer. Go on then, Rob, give us your
- 9:37answer. Are going strong.
- 9:39So it's a tough one. I mean, I highly rate the iPod,
- 9:42which seems to have it's a it's a relic though, isn't it?
- 9:45An iPod? However, the burned mixed CDs.
- 9:50When I got my first car, it was littered with all these
- 9:54different CDs that I've made and they weren't just like a copy of
- 10:01like an album because my dad was in it like insistent.
- 10:03But if you had an actual CD in your car then it was a target
- 10:06for thieves so they'd break in to steal your CDs.
- 10:10So he's like make copies, not not.
- 10:12The CD player, the CDs. Themselves, yeah, Honestly, I
- 10:17don't get it. But I followed his rules.
- 10:20So yeah, I'd have like copies of CDs.
- 10:24But then then I went to my DJ phase where I made master mixes
- 10:28of all my favourite songs and I actually found them recently
- 10:33when I emptied the loft. So I have got CDs titled like
- 10:38Rock mix and Indie mix. And yeah, honestly, like it's a
- 10:44no brainer that one for me because I've put so much
- 10:46dedication into my history of CDs with Sharpie labels.
- 10:50So I wish I still had all of mine because I had so many.
- 10:53OK, let's go to Ali. Ali, do you want to tell us what
- 10:56your choice would have been? Yeah, so I'm afraid I do have to
- 11:00go with the iPod. It it pains me.
- 11:04It pains me a little bit because like I do love a Burn CDI.
- 11:08Think it it is definitely that pure nostalgia.
- 11:11It's, I feel awful choosing technology over, over the, you
- 11:14know, the, I'd say the hardcore. Music.
- 11:16The nano click I think is like really the the click from the
- 11:20iPod nano with the the little wheel is like a really lovely
- 11:25sound. Does that make sense?
- 11:27It's really therapeutic. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 11:31Yeah. I, but I used to have more like,
- 11:33I know, I know we're doing the click wheel here, but I used to
- 11:36have this, that tiny little iPod that was like, I don't even know
- 11:39how to describe it. It was like a couple centimetres
- 11:41wide and it was this tiny little clip that you would put on and I
- 11:44used to have it engraved. With my name, yeah.
- 11:47It's the. IPod Shuffle.
- 11:50It's something like that, yeah, the iPod shuffle.
- 11:52Yeah, that was my favourite. No screen, no, not at all.
- 11:56I have no idea how that how that worked at all, but you know, it
- 12:00was cool. But yeah, I'm I'm iPod I'm
- 12:02afraid. Oh, I love it.
- 12:04Do you know what I appreciate it as well because I I think I had
- 12:08like the little shuffle and then I have like the nano and then I
- 12:12have like the slim line nano. I remember having like all.
- 12:15Right, money bags. Yeah, well, Shannon, we, I think
- 12:18we've already had the conversation about my iPod nano.
- 12:21Do you not remember I told you my export for me and then broke
- 12:24up with me like 3 weeks later? It's like you are not getting
- 12:26that iPod back maybe. Thanks.
- 12:29Oh yeah, I see. I used to, I used to wash my,
- 12:32this is horrible. So when I was younger I used to
- 12:34wash my older brothers. They had like even just the
- 12:37little Bluetooth players and stuff like that.
- 12:39They would be dusty and I thought I was doing the best
- 12:41thing for them by cleaning them. So I'd wash it in the sink.
- 12:44No, Alex. Oh my God.
- 12:49Sorry, sorry brothers. Apologies there.
- 12:53Oh, my goodness, that's hilarious.
- 12:55OK, go on then. Ryan, what do you think?
- 13:00I'm going to have to join like the controversial journey here
- 13:04and go with the iPod. Reason being reason it.
- 13:09Well, fun fact, I didn't actually have an iPod I had
- 13:13because it's like the closest thing to what I actually had
- 13:15was, you remember those MP3 sticks?
- 13:18That was like USP. Had an MP3 player.
- 13:21Yes. I had one of those well before
- 13:23that I had like a portable CD player that I quickly upgraded
- 13:27to the MP3 and literally the same.
- 13:32I don't know, I think there's like 30 or 40 songs on it on
- 13:36repeat constantly. So for me, that is pure
- 13:40nostalgia. Nostalgia, I love that I love
- 13:43that I think we all like had like you know what you said then
- 13:46about the iPod with click wheel and the noise that it makes and
- 13:49how it just takes you back. It's almost like you know when
- 13:51you smell something and it reminds you of like a person or
- 13:54a time. I genuinely feel that with
- 13:56sounds like it's really weird. I can like see myself in my
- 13:59bedroom because small little known fact guys, I actually live
- 14:03in the same house now that I lived in when I was like
- 14:06literally from the age of 1 all the way to like 17.
- 14:09I wow live in my old parents house.
- 14:12It's really strange they don't live here anymore.
- 14:14I live here with my family now. I'm not still living with my
- 14:17mum, but it is really nostalgic because my little girl's room,
- 14:22it was my old room. So when I was doing it up, I was
- 14:25like sitting in there and thinking about like all the
- 14:28posters that I used to have and like the different colours that
- 14:31the walls used to be. And like I can remember
- 14:33specifically my little stereo player being in the little
- 14:37cubbyhole in the corner and my stack of CDs, which was Busted.
- 14:41Original album, Busted Present for everyone.
- 14:43Mcfly's also also room on the 3rd floor.
- 14:46Like all of those beginning albums Motion in the Ocean.
- 14:49Like, oh, Stack a bit of Avril Lavigne because why the hell
- 14:52not? We love Avril Lavigne.
- 14:53We love that woman. Pink.
- 14:55Misunderstood, obviously. Yes, yes.
- 14:59Understood. One of the things that I did
- 15:01have a this or that for you, but we went with Shannons because I
- 15:04couldn't remember. But I remember that one of the
- 15:06options were something to do with the now that's what I call
- 15:09music CDs. Didn't you guys ever have those?
- 15:12Wow. Yes.
- 15:15They were so good. I think now 53 was the one that
- 15:20I had because that's the one I remember listening to the most.
- 15:23I definitely had that. Definitely.
- 15:24I feel like, was that like Christina Aguilera era?
- 15:26I thought that might have been her.
- 15:30I think the earliest 1 I had was like now 40 something.
- 15:34I'm sure I had like the now 40 and I think they went all the
- 15:38way up and my my one of my best friends when I was younger was
- 15:41still collecting them like only a few years ago.
- 15:44Like she was still collecting them.
- 15:45I bet she. Literally had like really high
- 15:46numbers now. Yeah.
- 15:48What? What number is it at now I wanna
- 15:50know. I'm literally just looking now.
- 15:52Simon, you could be the producer doing the Google it.
- 15:55Wouldn't surprise me, Ryan. It really wouldn't.
- 15:58I love it. You've got to be in the two
- 15:59hundreds, right? Yeah, I reckon.
- 16:01Well, I don't know. It depends.
- 16:02Is it once a year? Because, I mean, I'm not that
- 16:04old, Ali, Even though you were born in the 2000s.
- 16:07No, that old I know. I I remember the nows.
- 16:10Now. Like a fine wine.
- 16:13I really have. I've taken it personally.
- 16:18So Now now 122 came out in 2005. Shut up.
- 16:24Wow, that's crazy. That's disgusting.
- 16:28Is it twice a year they come out?
- 16:30It must be twice a year then, because my God, it's not been 50
- 16:32years. I definitely had that 40.
- 16:34It's not been 50. Years.
- 16:37They've got to have skipped some numbers there, surely?
- 16:39Yeah, surely. They have to.
- 16:42Disgusting. Oh my goodness.
- 16:43OK, right. Let's move on then to your this
- 16:46or that. Do you want to ask me and Chan
- 16:48what your this or that is? Yeah, so I went with scented gel
- 16:55pens, you know, the ones that were like the cherry ones, the
- 16:57chocolate ones, the everything them or drinks related pencil
- 17:04cases, you know, the Pepsi Max, the Leuka's aid.
- 17:08Oh my God I definitely had. I had the Coca-Cola 1 and it was
- 17:12like a long tube with like flat ends but the zip went like
- 17:15around the top part so it almost like popped off the topsy.
- 17:21Pringles. You literally was a bit like a
- 17:23Pringles tub. I can remember it like it was
- 17:25yesterday. It was disgusting.
- 17:26I mean, I mean, I was not a popular person at school, so,
- 17:29you know, it just added to my weirdness.
- 17:31Look at the Kyle. Are you sure?
- 17:34Thanks. Babe.
- 17:36Hey, we're friends because we're both weirdos.
- 17:38It's the only reason I, as much as I did have that pencil case.
- 17:47I do definitely think I prefer the gel pens because I remember
- 17:51having like a little box with, with all of my gel pens in like
- 17:56they have like little grooves that you could like snap them
- 17:58into and I used to put them in like gradient of their colours.
- 18:02Oh well. You sound like me now I'm.
- 18:04Such a loser. Oh my God.
- 18:06Honestly why am I saying this live on a podcast?
- 18:08People are listening to this? Yeah, no, I'm.
- 18:12I'm definitely a gel pen kind of girl.
- 18:13What about you, Shan? I would probably say, although
- 18:18Bradley would probably say different because I have a very
- 18:21unhealthy addiction to Pepsi Max.
- 18:24Like. Genuinely, I would probably need
- 18:26to see somebody about it. I would probably say scented gel
- 18:31pens just because I just remember being deeply unhappy if
- 18:36my pens didn't smell. I would be so to say if I no if
- 18:44if my parents like bought me gel pens or anything, I'd be like
- 18:47what is why they? Smell it?
- 18:48Why? Why does this not smell like
- 18:50popcorn? Why?
- 18:52I'm not using it. Oh my God, I used to love the
- 18:54bubble gum one. I used to have a little pink
- 18:56bubble gum 1 and it was so good Oh my God.
- 18:59We were literally like, like gel pen addicts sniffing them in the
- 19:03so great. Oh my God, I love it.
- 19:09Oh my God. So for you guys, what would you
- 19:12have said if we were to ask you that question?
- 19:14Would you have gone with gel pens or the pencil case?
- 19:18I think I had a gun sent to gel pens with her.
- 19:21Yeah, love that. No.
- 19:22I'd go, I think I'd go pencil case because I also have a Pepsi
- 19:25Max addiction and it's really. Enable.
- 19:30I have to have enable. Yeah, like, forget coffee and
- 19:34tea, I'm having Pepsi Max. Yeah, I love it.
- 19:37How dare you? Ryan, are you a coffee kind of
- 19:41guy? Yes, 100.
- 19:44Percent 13 should. Honestly, be dead without
- 19:46coffee. I love it.
- 19:49Yeah, we're definitely along the same line there because I cannot
- 19:52function without my coffee in the morning.
- 19:55Gosh. I may or may not have a coffee
- 19:57right now. Oh.
- 19:58My God, it's 8:30 at nightmate Is it decalf?
- 20:02Are you OK? No, no, you've got to have a
- 20:05coffee. Like I have one before bed and
- 20:08I'm absolutely fine. I'll ask you how old you are.
- 20:11You don't have to tell me, you can give me a region, but how
- 20:13old are you? I feel like this is a young
- 20:14person thing to do it. Might seem young, but I feel
- 20:19like I'm nine years old. I'm 29. 29 OK, so you're really
- 20:24you really are you're you're still young ish.
- 20:28Yeah, I'm Disney. Sort of right sort.
- 20:32Of right, yeah, mid right. You know, I'm the oldest one.
- 20:38I'm the oldest one here by a year.
- 20:39And you're like, oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, you can Ish.
- 20:42You all sat there calling us. All right.
- 20:47I'll let you into a secret, Rob. I'm 33 next month, so you're
- 20:50really not that far off of me, so don't worry, it's all good.
- 20:54OK, Lush. OK, we've got one more for you
- 20:57then before we move on. Disney Channel, Nickelodeon or
- 21:02Cartoon Network this Is this that or the other?
- 21:05Because we've got three options. Yeah, Wow.
- 21:11Go on, Ryan, we'll let you. Answer this one.
- 21:13Cartoon Network, I think. Cartoon Network.
- 21:16OK, love. It was it editor that day.
- 21:18Is that what? Literally thinking about that
- 21:21in. My head you.
- 21:22Said it so good. Recess was one of my favourites.
- 21:27I used to love recess. Cat.
- 21:29Dog. Cat dog, What the hell was that?
- 21:32Oh, I heard a cat dog. Yeah.
- 21:35Is that Rob? Rob knows.
- 21:38Yeah, yeah. It was literally a cat dog.
- 21:43It's a cat. Dog.
- 21:44One end his dog, one end his cat.
- 21:46Oh. Wow, that sounds messy.
- 21:49Yeah, yeah. Are you sure this is a kid show?
- 21:52I'm scared to eat it too much. Cartoon Network was a law unto
- 21:58itself at one point. They, there were some very
- 22:01strange, strange things on the television when we were younger.
- 22:04I just put that out there. I love it, though.
- 22:08Go on then. Ali, did you did you tell us
- 22:10yours? No, I didn't.
- 22:12No, Yeah, I that is a really hard one.
- 22:14I mean, I do love. 'Cause it's too young for
- 22:16Cartoon Network, it's. Just a Cartoon Network.
- 22:20I mean, it's just probably, I don't know.
- 22:22Was Ben 10 Cartoon Network. Yeah, Ben 10 was like so young.
- 22:27We yeah, we're too right for Ben 10.
- 22:29Yeah. I just love Ben 10.
- 22:31But I actually, I want to say Disney Channel because a lot of
- 22:35the artists that I grew up listening to were Disney Channel
- 22:38stars. So.
- 22:39Oh yeah, you. Talked about Zac Efron.
- 22:42I'm not. I'm talking about Demi Lovato.
- 22:45Yes, you are Ali. Yes, LOML.
- 22:51Oh my God, love that woman. Love that.
- 22:53Yes, she's on another level. OK, love that.
- 22:57OK, I'm happy with that. Go on then.
- 22:59Rob, what was your choice? Cartoon Network.
- 23:04Yeah. I mean, I'll.
- 23:06I don't have to give a reason. I can also run off a list of
- 23:08shows. Oh, my God.
- 23:09Please. Eden.
- 23:09Eddie. Cat dog.
- 23:11Eddie. Yeah.
- 23:13Cat dog. Courage the Cowardly Dog.
- 23:15I remember that. 1. The Powerpuff Girls, That wasn't
- 23:20one of my favourites. 10 out of 10 show 10 out.
- 23:23I'm just introducing that to my kids.
- 23:25I love that it's it's a quality show, and I think just to round
- 23:29it off would be Dexter's Laboratory.
- 23:32Dexter's Laboratory. Oh my God that was my favourite.
- 23:36Love that. Although I feel like I I
- 23:39definitely would pick Cartoon Network.
- 23:40We never had Nickelodeon because we didn't have like the extra
- 23:44channels we had. I know that sounds really silly,
- 23:46but like there was like normal telly and then there was like
- 23:49the extra TAT channels. Do you know what I mean?
- 23:51Like my Nan had. It when I were a kid that were
- 23:531234 and 5 that were it. All right, Ryan, pipe down.
- 24:04Oh dear. My nan used to have like
- 24:06Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel, but I watched Cartoon
- 24:08Network a lot at home. But I really, I feel like we
- 24:12need to give a shout out to CBBC.
- 24:14Man, I feel like I've watched a lot of CBBC growing up.
- 24:17I used to watch like my parents are aliens.
- 24:19Do you remember this Bernard's watch the Queen's Nose, Like
- 24:23they were my favourite. I used to love those shows and
- 24:26they were all CBBC. Big cook, Little cook.
- 24:28Oh. My God, big Oh my God, the
- 24:30innuendos. The innuendos from that show are
- 24:35actually unreal. They are diabolical.
- 24:37They're so bad Fun facts go on then.
- 24:43Right, This is really obscure, but I was the ones writing a
- 24:46song and I was I was writing a song and I got a melody that was
- 24:50extremely catchy and I was like, wow, this is this is going to be
- 24:53great. And then once I'd finished
- 24:56everything and listened back to it, I was like, hold on a
- 24:57minute, I've literally just written the theme tune to Big
- 25:00Cook, Little Cook. It was brilliant.
- 25:04Literally the same. The next song, Your next cover
- 25:09for your next show. Don't tempt him.
- 25:13Please don't tempt him. I'm doing it.
- 25:17I'm putting the temptation out there, doing it.
- 25:20I don't know what they would choose.
- 25:22I think I actually no. I reek of Disney Channel.
- 25:26You are a. Disney, you reek.
- 25:27I'm. Sorry of Lizzie McGuire.
- 25:29It's on Julie. Yes, Yeah.
- 25:32But I will say I would be nothing without Drake and Josh.
- 25:35So. God, Drake.
- 25:37And Josh? Yeah.
- 25:39I used to love that. That's so Raven.
- 25:42I think that was CBBC. Yeah, and.
- 25:44No, that was Disney Channel. That was Disney.
- 25:46Yeah, it was a. Disney.
- 25:47OK. And Even Stevens.
- 25:49Did you watch Even Stevens? Channel.
- 25:51Yeah, that was that was Shia LaBeouf, wasn't it?
- 25:54Shia LaBeouf Yes, it was Shia LaBeouf.
- 25:56Yeah, Shia LaBeouf. Love that.
- 25:59Oh my God, there's just too many to talk about.
- 26:01We could talk about this all day, but unfortunately we do
- 26:04have to move on. We've been sharing a few things
- 26:11about you guys this past week or so on our socials and we have
- 26:14asked our listeners if they have any questions for you.
- 26:17We did indeed, and they had quite a few.
- 26:19So we thought we'd do a quick question corner for you so we
- 26:22could all get to know you a little bit better.
- 26:24Now what we're going to do is we're going to ask each of you
- 26:26individually each question, but we're going to try and do it
- 26:29quick. So we're not going to I've put
- 26:31and reasoning, but I think what we'll do is we'll just do
- 26:34reasoning for the first question and then the other ones we'll
- 26:36just sort of answer in a shorter style because otherwise we will
- 26:40be here all night. It'll be the longest podcast in
- 26:44the history of the world. So we're going to go Ryan, Rob,
- 26:47then Ali, Ryan, 1st and most important question there is for
- 26:51this podcast. Are you Team Busted or Team
- 26:54McFly and give us your reasons. I am Team Busted and the reason
- 27:00being it was my earliest memory of music, like coming into my
- 27:06life when I was, I can't even remember how old I was, but I
- 27:09remember seeing like the adverts on TV.
- 27:12So I was about 6. That's really young.
- 27:15But I remember vividly like seeing like how mad's that at
- 27:20six years old. I remember seeing the adverts
- 27:23for Busted, a present for everyone.
- 27:25That's one of those eyebrows. And I was like, I think I'll
- 27:30have some of this. And I put it on my Christmas
- 27:32wish list. I was going to say I also.
- 27:35I also wrote that that's a bit of me.
- 27:38I'll have a bit of this, but in a very different way.
- 27:40I expect I. Definitely want to Charlie
- 27:44Simpson, but yeah, some are delivered and the rest is
- 27:51history. I love it.
- 27:52I love it. OK, so we've got one for Team
- 27:54Busted. Let's go to you, Rob, Team
- 27:56Busted or Team McFly. We're going to knock a point on
- 27:59for Team McFly. OK, easy choice.
- 28:05Yeah, I just know way more McFly than I do Busted.
- 28:10Yeah. I mean we had a little
- 28:13conversation but I'd say I know like 6 McFly songs for every
- 28:17like one Busted song. Yes, and I said that's probably
- 28:20not hard because there are twice as many McFly songs as there
- 28:23are. Yeah, I love.
- 28:26It I love it. OK, over to you then, Ali.
- 28:30And I am also Team McFly. So yeah, I mean, I grew up with
- 28:35their music. And I said this earlier, but
- 28:38like it feels like when you look at McFly and Busted and you do
- 28:41like that comparison is that Busted are the bad boys and
- 28:45McFly are the sort of good boys. Soft boy call.
- 28:48I mean, especially if you take a look at like, I think Harry is
- 28:50like the softest one of them all, I'd say.
- 28:53And he's he's just so sweet and I don't know, I think that's the
- 28:57aesthetic I'd like really love to have.
- 28:59I'd love to be soft boy, which I feel like that's weird saying
- 29:03about myself, but yeah, no, it's not.
- 29:05We live there. Yeah.
- 29:08And I mean, let's be honest, their music is just incredible.
- 29:10So yeah. Yes, we can agree with you
- 29:12there. OK, Just to let you in on mine
- 29:17and Shannon's preferences, we are both very heavily Team
- 29:20McFly, but Busted hold a very, very special place in both of
- 29:24our hearts. And I think it's only because
- 29:26we've seen McFly more because we watched them tour while Busted
- 29:30one no more, if that makes sense.
- 29:32They were busted. They weren't busted anymore.
- 29:34We were so heartbroken. I think if Busted had continued,
- 29:37there would be level pegging. I really do.
- 29:39I think they probably. Would be although I think I'm T
- 29:42McFly because I like McFly now but I think Busted for me.
- 29:46I like their nostalgic vibes so much more.
- 29:49They just remind me of being a kid.
- 29:51Yeah, 100 percent, 100% agree with you there.
- 29:53OK, let's go to the next question.
- 29:56Actually, I think one of you already answered this.
- 29:58Ryan, what is your earliest memory of either of the bands?
- 30:02You can choose Busted or McFly. Yeah, it's literally the present
- 30:08for Everyone album. Yeah, pretty much.
- 30:12I don't know if it was. I've been thinking about this,
- 30:13right. And I don't know if I was six
- 30:15years old, I think it might have been a little bit a.
- 30:18Bit. After we need to first check
- 30:21this. The first album was to We know
- 30:23the facts. We've been doing this long
- 30:24enough. They've released their first
- 30:26album in 2002 and they split up in January 2004.
- 30:31So they would have been like, it would have been within those
- 30:35sort of two years that they were everywhere.
- 30:37But obviously their music was around after that.
- 30:39But if you're thinking about seeing them on the TV and like
- 30:42me and Shannon went to see them like live in probably 2003, I
- 30:47would say Shan 2000 and three 2004 before No 2003, before they
- 30:50split. So I would have been 10 because
- 30:53I was born in 1993. So it was a young, it was
- 30:56definitely young, young Tings, but yeah, 2002.
- 30:59To 2004. Young Tings.
- 31:01I don't know why I think I'm so cool and I'm not cool.
- 31:03Enough to say that you're not. This is like, I'm glad that you
- 31:07know, I'm glad that you know the facts because my memory is
- 31:10shocking. You just remembered a memory
- 31:14from when you were 6. Yeah, and also, it's our job to
- 31:18know this. We have a podcast about these
- 31:19bands. We need to know when they
- 31:20formed. My memory of dates and times
- 31:24should I say is a bit blurred. We'll let you off, don't worry,
- 31:28OK? Super Rob.
- 31:30What's your earliest memory of either of the bands?
- 31:33Yeah, to be fair, I don't remember listening to Busted
- 31:37very much at the time. So when you say they were around
- 31:41for a couple of years for this split up, I generally thought
- 31:44they were around for a bit longer than that, but obviously
- 31:48not. I listened to them more sort of
- 31:51later on. But McFly, yeah, I just sort of
- 31:54remember them just being there. Like, I feel like, I don't know
- 31:59what I mean. You'll know the answer as to
- 32:01when they started started releasing music, but it was
- 32:03obviously around. The simplest.
- 32:05McFly Yeah, 2000 So I'd have been going to like, I've been
- 32:09secondary school there. So it's going back to the early
- 32:13conversation. It's the start of like getting
- 32:14your MP3 player in it for when you're at school and thinking
- 32:17you're cool and whatever. So I had to, I just remember
- 32:21discovering them. I'm going to say 5 Colours was
- 32:25probably one of the first songs that sort of stood out, but I
- 32:30used to be a lot more into, I don't know, Michael romance kind
- 32:35of genre. Don't get that area.
- 32:38Do not get sky. OK, is that tangent I'm?
- 32:42Like Remo in my blood, yeah. We both.
- 32:45Are. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:46We're MC so throw and through I love.
- 32:50It. Oh, that's all right then.
- 32:51Yeah. So I was more in that little
- 32:52realm. So at the time I was like, I
- 32:54think I'm a bit too edgy here for McFly.
- 32:57But then, as years went on, I came to appreciate their craft.
- 33:02You could wear guy liner and listen to It's All About You.
- 33:04That's fine. Why not?
- 33:07Well, that's it. It is absolutely.
- 33:09I do that every Thursday night. I love it.
- 33:14For you, mate, we're here for it with your coffee.
- 33:16I love that. Yeah, I love it.
- 33:20OK, Tears. Coffee in tears.
- 33:25I love it. Oh, my goodness.
- 33:27OK, Ali, over to you then. What's your earliest memory?
- 33:33Yeah, I mean, I, I can't pinpoint anything like really
- 33:36particular, but I, I definitely say like when I first probably,
- 33:41I don't know, found like Mcfly's music would be, you know, the
- 33:44days when we used to have music video TV channels.
- 33:47So you have like MTV and then like Kerrang and stars.
- 33:50Oh my gosh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Kerrang like, and you would just
- 33:54watch their music videos. Yeah, absolutely.
- 33:57Like, that was my childhood sitting there every weekend,
- 34:00every like after school in the in the afternoons and the
- 34:03evenings. I'd be watching just like all
- 34:05this different music. And I definitely would have seen
- 34:07like, yeah, a few McFly music videos on there and being like,
- 34:10oh, these guys are so cool. Like I wouldn't be like them one
- 34:13day. Like, yeah.
- 34:14And now you are and. Now you're living.
- 34:16Your dream you're. Living your dream, I know.
- 34:19I know, I love it. Awesome.
- 34:21OK, this is a quick one. Have you ever seen them live?
- 34:26No. I've never seen them live.
- 34:29I've met Tom Fletcher. What?
- 34:31You've met Tom Fletcher and you've never seen him live.
- 34:33I'm absolutely few man. I know, I know.
- 34:37How did you meet him? Tell a story?
- 34:39I've seen AWH Smith's in Leeds. So random.
- 34:42Oh my goodness, I'm him in AWH Smith's.
- 34:46Really. Book signing thing for WH
- 34:48Smith's OH book signings. Yeah, he was doing book signings
- 34:52like smack because he, he did a couple of book signings for WH
- 34:55Smith, I'm sure. No, I don't know.
- 34:58I think it was just a random day shopping.
- 35:00And I was like, I'm pretty sure that's Tom from McFly.
- 35:03And then I just sort of like, walked past him and he he's like
- 35:06sort of smiled at me and went, all right, mate.
- 35:07And I was like, yeah, I'll tell him from McFly out here.
- 35:10And he's like, yeah, yeah. And like, he shook my hand and
- 35:12was like, oh, it's nice to meet you.
- 35:13And I was like, oh, cool, nice to meet you.
- 35:15It's probably bizarre. I aspire to be that cool when I
- 35:18meet somebody. Oh God, Shannon is the literally
- 35:21the worst. Meeting celebrities is not her
- 35:23thing. When I met Tom Fletcher in WH
- 35:27Smith's, it was his book signing and I I don't know why I bought
- 35:31him. AI bought my present because I
- 35:33was like, I can't go empty handed.
- 35:35So I bought him this little like there was a lush next door.
- 35:38So I bought him a bath bomb and I walked in.
- 35:41I don't know why I walked in and he went, oh, that smells nice
- 35:45and just I'm so bad at me in celebrities.
- 35:47I just went so do you. I didn't know what to say.
- 35:52And then it was like, oh, OK, let's take this photo.
- 35:55He's probably like call and security behind my back.
- 36:00You're so awkward and so funny. We also met his sister once
- 36:04outside the whole Cornwall because we went to watch our
- 36:05show and we were so excited to see her.
- 36:07We were first in line at stage door and we were absolutely
- 36:10buzzing and she came out and Shannon said sorry that I look
- 36:12so ugly. I don't know what's wrong with
- 36:17me. I can't meet celebrities.
- 36:19And she was like, you don't look ugly, you look beautiful.
- 36:21And China was like, thanks, that was it was gonna say say
- 36:24anything. You can you can always rely on
- 36:26Carrie to to lift you up in those moments like.
- 36:29She's an Angel. So much so you find it kind of
- 36:34bizarre though, like in moments like that because it was so long
- 36:37ago, like and it happened so quick.
- 36:39I can't remember the exact details, but it was just like,
- 36:42what the Hell's just happened? Like I've just ran at someone so
- 36:45super famous. I love the I love moments like
- 36:48that. I once saw Peter Andre in a
- 36:50train station and that's my claim.
- 36:51To pay well, I love that for you.
- 36:54Bristol Parkway train station there.
- 36:56He was just waiting on the platform.
- 36:59I'd put that on my CVI would. I'll talk about it.
- 37:02I'm not going to lie, I really have.
- 37:04OK, let's move on. Next question is favourite
- 37:07members of both bands? Favourite members of Busted?
- 37:10Let's go there first, Rob. Favourite members of Busted?
- 37:14Oh, favourite member of Busted. I will probably go Charlie
- 37:19Simpson. I feel like it's a down the
- 37:23middle answer. However, I will give you the
- 37:26reason as to why is because of Fight Star and just I listened
- 37:31to Fight Star before I listened to Busted.
- 37:33Oh, I love that. Love that for you.
- 37:35Fair play, you'll probably get on with Shan a lot more than me
- 37:38because I don't listen to Fight Star.
- 37:40I'm not. Have you?
- 37:41Listened to President. Yes.
- 37:43Are you talking? Yeah, no.
- 37:44Phenomenal. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:46No, that is, that is sound good. I'm a loser.
- 37:48Sorry. I'm so sorry.
- 37:52Oh, dear. OK, super.
- 37:54Say one vote for Charlie. Let's go, Ryan.
- 37:58Favourite Busted? Member My My favourite member
- 38:01busted is Mr Charlie Simpson. Nice, another vote for Charlie.
- 38:05OK, it's the eyebrows. It's the eyebrows.
- 38:09No, it's just, I don't know. I think for me, I appreciate
- 38:13his, his talent as a songwriter, but like his voice is such, I
- 38:19don't know. It's just got that texture to it
- 38:21that no matter what he sings, it always feels like quite present
- 38:26and I don't know. Yeah, raw and ripe.
- 38:29Hundreds. Oh, ripe, right?
- 38:31In a good way. In a good way.
- 38:33In a good way. Love that, love that.
- 38:36OK Ali, what about you? Favourite Busted member?
- 38:39So mine is actually Matt. Nice.
- 38:43Good choice. I just, he just, he just seems
- 38:45like a fun dude, you know, like I I'd grab a pint with him, I
- 38:48feel. Like and also he wouldn't.
- 38:49He's got a tea total. Well, yeah, I'm, I almost hope,
- 38:53beverage. With him.
- 38:54I'm also tea total, so I was sorry.
- 38:58Pint of Pepsi. Mac pint of Pepsi.
- 38:59Mac, That's what I mean. Sorry.
- 39:03Yeah, yeah. Love it, Love it.
- 39:06Yeah, Matt gets a Shannon. So I can't believe none of you
- 39:08picked my boy James. My God.
- 39:10James Bond is like my favourite person in the whole world.
- 39:12I love James so much. He gets so overlooked and this
- 39:15just proves it. He really does get so
- 39:17overlooked. He's literally the backbone of
- 39:19Bustard. He is.
- 39:20I'm sorry just an hour. I've said it before and I'll
- 39:22say. It he is, but he doesn't have
- 39:23the eyebrows. No, he doesn't.
- 39:25Have the eyebrows. He doesn't, and he.
- 39:27Doesn't have the eyebrows so often.
- 39:28He doesn't have Matt's bad boy charisma either.
- 39:31James is like the little nerdy geez and I love a little nerdy
- 39:35geez, I really do. OK, let's go favourite members
- 39:38of McFly then let's go to Ryan. We'll go to you first this time.
- 39:44I'm probably going to say Tom, to be fair, just because I've
- 39:47met him in his proper sound, like he's such a nice guy.
- 39:49I'm. A Tom girl.
- 39:51So I'm just so there for that love that.
- 39:53Let's go, Rob. I'm going to go for Dougie, if
- 39:56I'm honest. He just, yeah, he just seems
- 39:58like a cool guy. Definitely, definitely.
- 40:02He 100% is Ali. It's hard because all these boys
- 40:08are, yeah, awesome. But it's gotta be Harry, you
- 40:10know? Drama, like dramas unite, you
- 40:12know what I mean? I love that drummers stick
- 40:15together. Absolutely.
- 40:16And he's just the sweetest soul ever.
- 40:18They all are sweet. But watching him on was it race
- 40:22across the world with his mum, like, Oh my God, that's the that
- 40:24changed that changed me. Yeah, honestly changed my life.
- 40:29It changed my love. Forever, I think.
- 40:32You're not alone there, mate. I tell ya, I love it.
- 40:35OK, super. So we've got a few different
- 40:37answers. Nobody chose Danny Jones.
- 40:39That's interesting because. That's.
- 40:40The only person everybody wants to talk about Danny, but that's
- 40:43cool. OK Best songs to perform?
- 40:46OK so for this one, this listener wanted to know what
- 40:50songs from each band you would like to play yourself.
- 40:53So what would you be your favourite song of theirs to
- 40:56play? So let's go Busted first.
- 40:58Let's go Ryan. What song do you like from
- 41:00Busted that you like to perform? Don't do this to me question.
- 41:08Oh my God, oh God, what do I go with?
- 41:13We all know it's either. We all know it's.
- 41:16Britney. It's Britney.
- 41:19Pretty bitch. Can you come back to me?
- 41:24I can't decide. I'm I'll.
- 41:26Come back to you. I'll come back to you.
- 41:27I'll give you a moment. Let's go to Rob.
- 41:29Go on there Rob, you give us your your favourite Busted song
- 41:31to perform. This isn't going to be a popular
- 41:34vote, but I'm going to go for Thunderbirds.
- 41:37That's. Yeah, I feel like nobody, nobody
- 41:43covers. Yeah, nobody covers
- 41:45Thunderbirds. So yeah.
- 41:49Okay, that's fine. It's a valid, it's a valid
- 41:51choice. No problem at all, Ali.
- 41:54It's so cliche, but it, it, I mean, I have to say it has to be
- 41:59year 3000 just because when we, when we have done covers of it,
- 42:03it's just so beautiful to be able to like stop for a minute
- 42:06and like watch the crowd all singing along.
- 42:09Like I know it's not our song, it's busted song, but it's just
- 42:12like it's, I don't know, it's that coming together, isn't it?
- 42:14It's just beautiful to watch everyone do that.
- 42:16And year 3000 without a doubt will get everyone singing so.
- 42:20I've got 100%. It's always one of the biggest
- 42:22ones, isn't it? OK, Ryan, time to come back to
- 42:24you if you decided. I have made my decision.
- 42:28OK, Drum roll, please. I have.
- 42:32My decision is, who's David? Oh yes, yes, I love that so
- 42:39much. Oh my gosh, Who's David is
- 42:42probably one of my all time favourite Busted songs.
- 42:46We haven't got to it yet because we're still on the first album,
- 42:48but my God I can't wait to get to it in the podcast Buzzing.
- 42:52Love that for you Ryan. Good choice, really good choice.
- 42:54Have you got a reason or just love it?
- 42:57I always loved the song since it sort of came out and I heard it,
- 43:01you know, early on. But since they did greatest hits
- 43:052.0 I believe, yes, 2.0 the that particular version, like the
- 43:10production on that is insane. Like it just sort of set set a
- 43:14new bar for me. Like sonically, who did they?
- 43:17Collab with for that song on the 2.9.
- 43:21No, so, so no, they did, they did collab with someone on it,
- 43:26but then they did it on their own as well for.
- 43:28Oh yeah. Yeah, there was.
- 43:30They did a great assist and then they did the greatest with all
- 43:32the collabs, didn't they? Yeah, so my my favourite 1 is
- 43:36the one where they just perform it themselves.
- 43:39Yeah, I agree. I think who's David?
- 43:42I think there's a couple of songs that they did for the 2.0
- 43:45album. It was Wheatus, by the way,
- 43:46Shannon, that they sung it with legends.
- 43:49Yeah, I think that they're, Oh yeah, so good.
- 43:51I think there's a couple of songs on the 2.0 album with the
- 43:54like with the other people with the features that I probably do
- 43:57prefer the original. I'm going to just put the Jonas
- 44:00Brothers out there. Not a Joe Bro gal.
- 44:03I'm sorry but no, Year 3000 is not a Joe Bro song.
- 44:06We've already had this discussion.
- 44:08This is Busted and busted only. Sorry, Joe, you don't like you
- 44:12don't. Like shut up, you don't like I
- 44:18do. You don't like the neck deep
- 44:19meat there, do you? No because Meet You There is
- 44:22genuinely 10 out of 10 for me. My all time favourite Busted
- 44:26song and they just ruined it. I'm not saying that neck deep
- 44:30like ruined it. Themselves, but like silence.
- 44:32I like neck deep. It's not, I'm not like, it's not
- 44:35that I don't like them. I like them.
- 44:36I like their music. I just think Meet You There is a
- 44:39really good song and it's better when they sing it.
- 44:42Originally they speed it up and it was just too much and oh,
- 44:44just yeah, I wasn't a fan. But anyway, this isn't about me.
- 44:49OK, the next question is my favourite song to listen to.
- 44:56Oh we didn't do McFly, sorry. I'm so sorry.
- 44:58Your bet? Your Best Song to perform by
- 44:59McFly. Let's go back to Ryan first.
- 45:02Your favourite McFly song to sing Ryan?
- 45:06I've already chosen this one. It's probably what you're not
- 45:08expecting, to be fair. Oh, I'm excited.
- 45:10Silence is a scary sound. What a.
- 45:13Banger Yes Ryan, love you love the.
- 45:17Song. Yes, so good.
- 45:22That song reminds me of my MP3 player actually.
- 45:26It's so weird because I had their cover of I think it was
- 45:30Don't Stop Me Now and it was like a 17 minute song and I used
- 45:36to have to wait in the like empty space in between to hear
- 45:39silence as a scary sound. It was like you, It was like 4
- 45:44minutes. Don't stop me now.
- 45:45Yeah, yeah. But because I had an MP3 player,
- 45:48I couldn't skip, so I just had to sit in silence and weep.
- 45:52So. Funny, I loved that so much.
- 45:54Brilliant. OK, Rob, what about you, McFly?
- 45:59Something for I am going to go for a Niche 1 and it's probably
- 46:04one of my favourite McFly songs as well.
- 46:07It would be corrupted off the radioactive album I believe.
- 46:10Yes. Rob Oh my God I'm loving you
- 46:12guys choosing actual McFly songs and not just like 5 colours and
- 46:16a hair and obviously makes me so happy.
- 46:19Love that. OK, Ali.
- 46:22I've, I've got to say it would be lies.
- 46:25It's just, I don't know. I can just imagine like how
- 46:29badass that would be on a stage like it is.
- 46:33Phenomenal live as well, like we've seen it a couple of times
- 46:36live and it is unreal the energy when they do the like the
- 46:42guitar. The beginning, everything, Oh my
- 46:45God, it's so good. It's such a vibe.
- 46:47The vibe is. Such a vibe.
- 46:49Cinematic masterpiece like. It really is exactly what?
- 46:53It is. You guys need to go and see
- 46:56McFly because once you've seen them live you will want to go
- 46:59every year I promise you, and you'll want to be those fanboys
- 47:03that follow them round and go to every gig and are always at
- 47:06front row screaming. Honestly, I'll tell you now is
- 47:09what it takes. One go and that's it.
- 47:11You're in it forever. I've barely seen them.
- 47:14I can't. I can't.
- 47:15Oh, shut up, shut up. Liar, liar.
- 47:18Is it 50 this year? I don't know.
- 47:20We're nearly. No, it's not 50.
- 47:22I have seen them. I think we are approaching 40,
- 47:26but in my defence I saw them at Butlins quite a few times.
- 47:31As a kid, loving life so good. We also got to see Mcbusted in
- 47:37Cardiff, which was hands down the best gig of my entire life.
- 47:40And I went to the Aerosol. So, you know, putting that out
- 47:44there, it was amazing. It was so good seeing them like
- 47:47perform together and we just, they just did the Busted Versus
- 47:50McFly tour and they did do like a couple of the songs from the
- 47:54big Busted album, but not enough.
- 47:56And I don't know whether you guys have listened to the
- 47:57Mcbusted album at all. Have any of you listened to it?
- 48:01I've listened to a little bit, so one of my friends, I've been
- 48:06in bands over the last like 15 years.
- 48:08So one of my friends, one of their old bands went on tour
- 48:11with Mcbusted. So yeah, I've I end up listening
- 48:18to a couple of bits, but like, I could definitely listen to it in
- 48:20more detail. Do you know what?
- 48:22It's such a fun album, but it is so silly.
- 48:25Like it's such a silly. It's just so fun.
- 48:27There's nothing really serious about any of the songs that also
- 48:31carefree and just ridiculous. There's literally a song called
- 48:33Riding on My Bike and it's just talking about riding his bike.
- 48:37It's so stupid. There's another song called
- 48:40Indoor Club, again equally as as Amazing Indo Club.
- 48:45Yeah, have a listen guys, because they're so good.
- 48:46OK, last one. Any songs that you cannot stand
- 48:51by either of these bands? Ryan, over to you.
- 48:53First do. You know what, I can't really
- 48:59say. There is a song that I don't
- 49:01like. That's a bold statement.
- 49:05Do you? Know what?
- 49:06Like obviously the songs that I'm not sort of, I don't know
- 49:11I'm mad about, but yeah, it's like when I when I put on a
- 49:14playlist or an album, I don't skip.
- 49:17Do you know what I mean? I'll listen through because
- 49:19there's elements that still speak for themselves in
- 49:23different, less known songs. Or yeah, I think that makes
- 49:27sense. No, definitely.
- 49:28That's a really good answer. I think that's a very musician
- 49:31answer as well because I think when you are a musician, you
- 49:33appreciate music on a different level to people that are just
- 49:36listening to it because they like the band.
- 49:38I think you appreciate how every song is made and how every song
- 49:41is different and like the vocal, especially if you're vocalist
- 49:44like you are like you, you appreciate the energy and like
- 49:47the different types of tone and how they change their voices.
- 49:50And I'm we do the same thing. Like it's not just because we
- 49:53love the band. We do hear it musically as well.
- 49:55So I love that answer. Super.
- 49:57Go on then, Rob, tell us if there's any songs that you hate.
- 50:00I wouldn't say hate, but me and Ali were having this
- 50:04conversation. Yeah, he is a very strong word.
- 50:07I'm going. For drama here.
- 50:11Me and Ali were discussing this about half an hour before we
- 50:14started this podcast, so we can probably have a joint answer
- 50:17here with Air Hostess by Busted. Oh no.
- 50:22Goodness. Controversial.
- 50:27Yeah. I think.
- 50:30Like Ryan, you're my new host. Thank you.
- 50:35Yeah. It's just sort of like lyrically
- 50:38and stuff. It's, I don't know.
- 50:41It's it's catchy, but at the same time, it's my air Hostess.
- 50:47I like the way you dress. I don't know, it's just.
- 50:51I do like the way you dress, Rob.
- 50:53Calm down, You. Read my lyrics.
- 51:00Yeah, and if I'm honest, like the ones who've released, the
- 51:05ones who've released like you should read some of the
- 51:10unreleased like if you think Ryan's a bad, like mine are like
- 51:14mine are worse rhymes than they are like.
- 51:16Everybody said rhymes were bad. I think that was you putting
- 51:19that out in the ethereal. None of us said the right.
- 51:21Yeah, Ryan, Ryan insinuated it. No, no, but like, I can rhyme
- 51:26all day long but I can't write a song.
- 51:29But I feel like air Hostess is just one must have, right?
- 51:33There's nothing wrong with that. I just don't know.
- 51:36There's just something about it. Save me.
- 51:39I rob, I can't save you. I can't No, I don't I yeah, I
- 51:43think it's this sounds really awful and like my goodness, I
- 51:47hope no, I hope busted never hear this and and people.
- 51:51Get. Busted to listen.
- 51:52To this podcast, yes. Just no, listen to the podcast,
- 51:55just just like like bleak this out so that that skip this bit
- 51:59busted it here, skip this bit. But I think I think it's a bit
- 52:02whiny that song. I'm sorry, like, I don't know, I
- 52:06don't know. I as soon as it comes on, I'm
- 52:07like, yeah, now bye. See you later.
- 52:09Oh, it's a skip song. Yeah, brutal.
- 52:12Many. You're not.
- 52:13Honouring, I have many skip songs, but in my defence, all of
- 52:18my skip songs are also 10 out of 10 live.
- 52:21Like, I don't listen to that song myself, but that in a life
- 52:25full of full of Busted fans, yeah.
- 52:28Yeah, yeah. It's going to be the environment
- 52:30though, that's that's important. Yeah.
- 52:32Oh, 100%. I think for me, I think I've
- 52:34said it before and I will say it again, Thunderbirds, it's my
- 52:37only skip song really. I'm not into it.
- 52:39I'm really not into it. I just don't.
- 52:42I never did the Thunderbirds thing.
- 52:43I'm not. I just not not a fan I mean.
- 52:45Again, not even the Vanessa Hudgens movie.
- 52:48No, not even that. God, that woman can go.
- 52:51No, I mean, don't get me wrong. Don't get me wrong.
- 52:54Vanessa Hudgens, 25 years old plus.
- 52:57Yes, yes, Vanessa Hudgens. Vanessa Hudgens 17.
- 53:01Go away, you whiny, whiny little bitch.
- 53:03You're just jealous because she got Troy Bolton.
- 53:06She got to snog Zac Efron and I didn't.
- 53:08I'm sorry. Can you expect me to like her?
- 53:11Whatever Team Sharpei. This section of the podcast, we
- 53:20normally talk about one of the Busted or McFly members and what
- 53:23they've been up to outside of the band.
- 53:25But this week, obviously you're our special guest.
- 53:28So we thought we would use this section to talk about what you
- 53:30guys are going to be up to or have been up to, and you can
- 53:33share a little bit more about what you've been doing together,
- 53:36your covers, your tours, upcoming new music, and sort of
- 53:40general life and things that you do outside of the band.
- 53:42So would you like to give us a bit of an overview of like where
- 53:46you guys started and the things that you've done since you
- 53:49became a trio? Yeah.
- 53:52So as a trio, we released our first song back in the summer
- 53:57last year. It was May and then obviously
- 54:01we've released a few songs since then.
- 54:03We're on tour in December. And so to sort of fast track
- 54:08ever since happened over the last six months into what's
- 54:12currently happening is very much getting ready to release more
- 54:17music and line up the next lot of gigs.
- 54:20So a lot happens behind the scenes and then even more
- 54:24happens that Ryan and Ally get like a weekly update and a voice
- 54:27note that's about 6 minutes long from me and of everything that
- 54:32like has happened that week. And so yeah, it's been a case of
- 54:38lining up what shows we're playing because we've had them.
- 54:42There are quite a few offers come in, which is quite nice.
- 54:45Nice. So yeah, it's.
- 54:47It's quite nice heading down to the toe of the country at any
- 54:50point because don't forget our bars down here in Cornwall.
- 54:54Do you know what there, we've had a few people ask us to come
- 54:57down sort of Bristol sort of area.
- 54:59So still. 3 1/2 hours away, but that's fine.
- 55:01Still Bristol a bit away, but yeah, no, it's, it's definitely
- 55:07in the pipeline for this year. And Ali's from Brighton, so we
- 55:11will be heading down to the South Coast at least.
- 55:13Oh. Please do, because we really
- 55:15would love to come to a show and actually like, see you guys play
- 55:17and yeah, we'd love to, you know, rally and be supporters.
- 55:20So we'll be little groupies on the barrier, you know, we're up
- 55:25for that. Oh, amazing.
- 55:26That sounds like you've had lots going on.
- 55:28I didn't know that you were such a new band.
- 55:30I didn't know that you'd only form sort of like last year.
- 55:32So that's amazing. We're so honoured to have you on
- 55:34so early in your career together.
- 55:36Hopefully a nice long career ahead.
- 55:39So because we've talked a little bit about you as band members, I
- 55:43thought it'd be cool to sort of learn a little bit about who you
- 55:46are as people singly as well. So is that OK?
- 55:48Is it all right for us to like, talk about your outside life and
- 55:52sort of what you do outside of the band?
- 55:55Yeah, so good. Super.
- 55:56Okay, well, let's go. Let's go over to Ryan first as
- 56:00we let Rob answer that question. Ryan, I know you're chilling out
- 56:03on your own and just listening in and chatting in when you can.
- 56:06So I'm gonna, I'm gonna put you on the spot, probably drink,
- 56:10drinking a coffee. It's all good.
- 56:14So Ryan, tell us what do you do? Like what's your daily sort of
- 56:17thing? Do you have like AI say a normal
- 56:18person job, not like just your band?
- 56:20Do you do like general day-to-day things?
- 56:23Talk about your like, hobbies and the things you get up to
- 56:25outside of doing music. So it's a bit of a shift for me
- 56:30at the moment because I'm starting a new job.
- 56:33Oh. Exciting.
- 56:34It's a, it's a pretty normal person job.
- 56:37So it's in like education, teaching sort of music related
- 56:41things. Oh amazing.
- 56:45And then also on top of that, moving house to a brand new
- 56:49area. So there's a lot happening.
- 56:51Scary times, scary times. Scary times.
- 56:55But yeah, I mean, pretty much live and breathe music and the
- 57:00band. Obviously the last sort of month
- 57:03or so has been a bit quiet because I've had all this
- 57:06happening. But yeah, I mean, we all, each
- 57:10of us put a lot of time into different aspects of the band.
- 57:13Nice. It sounds pretty boring that
- 57:15really we. Don't.
- 57:16No, not at all. It's boring.
- 57:17It's. Not boring at all.
- 57:19I love that. That's good.
- 57:20It's a good thing to be invested in the things that you're doing.
- 57:23That's awesome. You said you're going into
- 57:24education. I'm a teacher and Shannon is a
- 57:26TA, so good luck with that. Have you done any?
- 57:30Have you done any education work before?
- 57:32No, it's it's the first first time I've gone into that sort of
- 57:36field about 10, a bit of a bit of a hobby, obviously playing
- 57:41music since or a kid and stuff and going through like playing
- 57:46band, playing in bands and playing shows and writing,
- 57:49recording. I thought maybe I could do
- 57:51something with this and turn it into a real person Job A.
- 57:54Real person job. Love that.
- 57:56That's so, so cool. So you're going to be teaching
- 57:58music. Is that sort of the kind of path
- 58:00that you're taking? Yeah, yeah.
- 58:02So it's basically teaching. It's mainly like primary age
- 58:07kids how to play instruments in a band.
- 58:11Yeah, it's really cool. So it's sort of teaching the
- 58:15next generation of, you know, of the kids growing up.
- 58:19Yeah. Next generation of musicians
- 58:21teaching them how to play guitars and drums and all those
- 58:25magical. That sounds so rewarding.
- 58:27It sounds much more rewarding than what I have to do every
- 58:30day. I'm actually a supply teacher at
- 58:33the moment, so I go to like 3 different schools a week and
- 58:36just get thrown in, but like right in the deep end.
- 58:39So I'm very, very jealous of your new job.
- 58:41That sounds so fun. Thank you very much.
- 58:43Ryan. Let's go to Ali.
- 58:45Ali, do you want to tell us a bit more about you, what you do
- 58:48outside of the band, your general sort of life things?
- 58:52Yeah, sure. I mean, I've got a pretty nerdy
- 58:55job, so I I, I'm actually a data analyst kind of officer manager
- 59:01thingy. Oh.
- 59:02My God, are you? Are you Chandler big?
- 59:06I'm pretty much yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:09I live two different lives. It's crazy, but yeah, I, I, I
- 59:13am. I'm part of a charity that's
- 59:15actually located down in Brighton, where I'm from.
- 59:18But since, since moving, they, yeah, they let me, they let me
- 59:22work from home because I mean, I'm just computer basically all
- 59:25the time. But yeah, I mean, that's pretty
- 59:28pretty much consumes me. But I think other than that, I
- 59:31like to, I like to just rot. I am a bit of a sofa rotter,
- 59:36doom scroller. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:38That's. My line.
- 59:40What and wish I was wish I was doing more with the band and
- 59:43writing really cool music and like, you know, joining in with
- 59:45like maybe a bit of cool lyrics, but I don't have the talent and
- 59:48I just sit play my my my games on my phone all the times and.
- 59:52You're. Stuck on TikTok?
- 59:53That's really. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:57Don't. Put yourself down mate.
- 59:58Like I said, the drummer, it's the backbone of a band and there
- 1:00:00were nothing. I just turn up.
- 1:00:02That's how you, I just turn up and go boom, boom, boom.
- 1:00:04And then you know. So when the the finger boys get
- 1:00:08in, that's. Hilarious.
- 1:00:14Absolutely love that. Oh, my goodness.
- 1:00:17Amazing. Thank you, Ali.
- 1:00:18Go on then, Rob, over to you. Tell us sort of things that you
- 1:00:21get up to outside of your band. Yeah, I mean, to be fair, every
- 1:00:26minute that I'm not doing anything else, I'm probably on
- 1:00:28the Instagram account. That's probably why you get a
- 1:00:30reply within the first 3 minutes.
- 1:00:32Yeah, my message. Yes, that's.
- 1:00:35Me but yeah so other than that I is it a normal job is it isn't
- 1:00:42so I mainly do like wedding photography and wedding
- 1:00:44videography yeah I'd say it's a normal job like so I thought
- 1:00:51about doing that and I have a city loads of editing that comes
- 1:00:56with that and yeah like that's sort of it really I've got two
- 1:01:02kids as well so like. Cute.
- 1:01:05I was going to ask earlier if any of you had children but I
- 1:01:08just couldn't find time to put it in.
- 1:01:09How old are they? So I've got a 7 or nearly 7 year
- 1:01:14old. I would Fast forward in two
- 1:01:15months and I've got a nearly 7 year old and a three-year old.
- 1:01:20Oh, that's my life. Love that.
- 1:01:22Oh yeah, you're the same Chan, Not too far apart.
- 1:01:24I have 7 year old and a four year old.
- 1:01:26There you go. There you go.
- 1:01:28Love that, can you? Drown in 6-7 and you know 6
- 1:01:31crap. Oh yeah, I still don't know what
- 1:01:35it means. Drowning in the Skippity.
- 1:01:37Toilet. Oh my Lord, that's just not OK.
- 1:01:40I'm so glad I'm not at that stage yet, but I am about to
- 1:01:43enter the terrible twos and the tantrums have started.
- 1:01:46So please tell me that it it doesn't last that long because
- 1:01:49I'm. Already doesn't suffer and.
- 1:01:51Oh no. Yeah, I'd say that.
- 1:01:54People say they're terrible twos and then someone gave me a
- 1:01:56phrase for the threes but I can't remember where it was but
- 1:01:58it was very applicable. Ferrell.
- 1:02:01Awful Ferrell. Horrible.
- 1:02:02Yeah. Just just.
- 1:02:05Can you regret my life choices? I'm joking, I actually do.
- 1:02:11I do like my children, I promise.
- 1:02:12I just. I really also like being alone
- 1:02:15the. White words.
- 1:02:17God, I'm really excited about the next few years of my life.
- 1:02:21Oh dear, awesome. Thank you so much for telling us
- 1:02:24a little bit more about you guys.
- 1:02:25It's it's nice to learn about who you are as people.
- 1:02:28It's important that our listeners know that you have a
- 1:02:30life outside of the band as well.
- 1:02:32But I love that the band is a main focus for all of you.
- 1:02:34So that's awesome. Thank you so much.
- 1:02:38It's time for Song of the Week. Things are a little different
- 1:02:42this week because we are actually going to be talking
- 1:02:43about you guys. Yes, so exciting.
- 1:02:47So we thought that we'd play one of your wonderful covers for our
- 1:02:51listeners and also one of your top played songs on Spotify.
- 1:02:54Does that sound good? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:57Sounds good to me. Awesome.
- 1:02:58So we're going to start. We're going to start.
- 1:03:01Let's talk about 5 colours in her hair.
- 1:03:42So I feel like there could be a really obvious answer to this,
- 1:03:44but you want to tell us why you chose 5 colours in particular to
- 1:03:49cover to cover from McFly? It's an absolute banger, isn't
- 1:03:54it? Great answer, Ryan.
- 1:04:00I mean, I mean, you say that, Ryan, but as soon as we started
- 1:04:03playing it, my goodness, we did not realise how fast that song
- 1:04:06goes. It's mental.
- 1:04:09Yeah. Yeah, it's like 196 BPM.
- 1:04:15Oh wow, it's so fast. My next question was going to
- 1:04:18be, how the hell do you play that on guitar and sing at the
- 1:04:20same time? Because it's just metal.
- 1:04:23It's so crazy. Lots.
- 1:04:24Of who'd Luca's head? Orange.
- 1:04:27I see who who does the the guitar solo like the main guitar
- 1:04:31solo? That'll be me, yeah.
- 1:04:35Yeah, yeah. Love that there.
- 1:04:38That's my favourite because in in McFly, it's TomTom usually
- 1:04:42does that bit. My main man, my main man, Mr
- 1:04:45Fletcher, I love that. OK, so I absolutely I love the
- 1:04:50cover and I was a little bit sad that it wasn't the whole song
- 1:04:52when you sent me the clip. I was like, I need the rest of
- 1:04:54it. Where's the rest of it?
- 1:04:56It's so good. You guys have really got that
- 1:04:58like that pop punk like energy. And obviously we're going to go
- 1:05:02to talk about your songs in a moment, your original songs as
- 1:05:05well. But as far listeners, we wanted
- 1:05:07to add that little bit of McFly in as well, because you really
- 1:05:11did like, you did put your own sort of spin on it in a really
- 1:05:14good way that didn't like divert too much from the original, but
- 1:05:18it did make it sound a little bit more.
- 1:05:20Yeah, like a little bit more unique.
- 1:05:22Is that something that you did purposely, or is it something
- 1:05:24that just sort of flowed in its own way?
- 1:05:29I think, sorry to talk over you Ryan.
- 1:05:32I think we've ended up blending a little bit the the original 5
- 1:05:36colours in her hair and we blended it a little bit with the
- 1:05:39US version. So when we first started
- 1:05:43learning it, Ryan said to us like, Oh yeah, learn the US
- 1:05:47version. But then when we come to
- 1:05:50practise it, it all sounded a little bit off and we couldn't
- 1:05:52really work out why. And what had actually happened
- 1:05:56was what Ryan had meant was play in the style of the US version
- 1:06:01where it's got a bit more distortion.
- 1:06:03And so me and Ali were playing like the different, like notes
- 1:06:06and stuff because it is a bit more, it's played slightly
- 1:06:09differently. And so we've ended up like
- 1:06:12blending the two together. And so, yeah, like I know you
- 1:06:17said obviously the full, but it's because we we played on our
- 1:06:20tour, so we had people like record clips of it in the crowd.
- 1:06:24So I sort of picked out the best one.
- 1:06:27But yeah, as an overall, particularly as the song gets
- 1:06:29into the second-half of the song, you can sort of hear the
- 1:06:32crossover a little bit more. So yeah, it's a bit of a blend
- 1:06:35of the two versions, I'd say. That's cool, though.
- 1:06:38That's nice. Yeah.
- 1:06:40That you took something from each of them.
- 1:06:42I like that. I do have a bone to pick with
- 1:06:44you though and just you know, or drum roll and it is a a bone in
- 1:06:50particular because you sing. She's just Stilona with a sexy
- 1:06:54attitude. I'd like to phone her because it
- 1:06:56puts me in the mood when the actual UK the UK version is.
- 1:06:59I'd like to bone her and I was really sad that I didn't hear
- 1:07:01the word bone. I'm sorry I.
- 1:07:05Shall Was that a personal choice?
- 1:07:08I just mix it up. I will amend that for you.
- 1:07:11Please do and we play and please do exactly and I'll know.
- 1:07:15I'll know. I'll be in the crowd and I'll
- 1:07:16know. I'll just give me a little nod.
- 1:07:18Sometimes I'll know. Sometimes change it in the verse
- 1:07:21as well that Rob cooks in the nude.
- 1:07:24I think I was listening to the clip the other day and I heard I
- 1:07:29replayed that bit because I thought, hang on a minute, he's
- 1:07:32not singing the lyrics there. Then I realised that you were
- 1:07:35singing something different, but I genuinely couldn't work out
- 1:07:37what you were saying. And now I'm so glad that you've
- 1:07:39told me what it was. That's just made my whole.
- 1:07:41Life, thank you very much. There you go.
- 1:07:44Mystery song. I love that.
- 1:07:45So, yeah, very good. Fantastic. 10 out of 10 cover
- 1:07:49for me, but change phone back to bone, please.
- 1:07:51Thank you very much. So we've been having a listen to
- 1:07:55your Spotify releases and I have to say I love them genuinely.
- 1:07:59I'm not just saying that very, very nostalgic vibes.
- 1:08:04Also, you're really good at selling a story, which in
- 1:08:07previous episodes we've said is one of our favourite things
- 1:08:09about songwriting specifically. Like the Busted vibes, like
- 1:08:13their first album, is very storytelly storytellery.
- 1:08:17I love that. And you really give that.
- 1:08:20I love honeymoon, but I also really love the vibe of Night
- 1:08:23drive. Honestly, it gave me like all
- 1:08:24time low busted. That kind of era which our
- 1:08:28listeners will know is an era of music.
- 1:08:30I I live in, I don't. Live from.
- 1:08:33There. So literally, yeah, 10 out of
- 1:08:3510. Shannon's music taste hasn't
- 1:08:38changed in the like, how long have I known you now, Shannon?
- 1:08:40Like 14 years or something. It's not changed.
- 1:08:42We've listened to the same songs back then at 18 that we still
- 1:08:45listen to now at 33. Yeah, it was.
- 1:08:49So funny. So there is one one song
- 1:08:52particularly that I want to give a special mention and it's your
- 1:08:56most played song on Spotify. I was thinking at the view
- 1:08:58count, listen count earlier and that is honeymoon.
- 1:09:01And I have to say, genuinely felt like it was a personal
- 1:09:04attack because it was so relatable, which is really sad
- 1:09:08because the song is like, it's quite emotional in a way.
- 1:09:12And it's, yeah, it is. It was quite relatable.
- 1:09:15Do you want to tell the listeners a little bit about the
- 1:09:17song Honeymoon, what it's about, if there's an inspiration behind
- 1:09:20it or a story? I'm not sure who you want to
- 1:09:23nominate to discuss it, but we'll leave that up to you.
- 1:09:45Honeymoon for me was the first time that I thought about
- 1:09:50writing about not just experiences that I've had, but
- 1:09:53sort of experiences that I've observed like people in my life
- 1:09:57going through. And it's something that sort of
- 1:10:03it scared me a little bit because I was like, is happily
- 1:10:07ever after a real thing? Like, is it just a continent
- 1:10:09cycle of, you know, going through something that seems
- 1:10:13real and then it ends up in tatters?
- 1:10:17So yeah, for me it was, it was the beginning of like us as a
- 1:10:21band, as a trio. It was like as introduction to
- 1:10:27and you approach the songwriting, which like you said
- 1:10:29is is more or less the storytelling aspect.
- 1:10:33I think it's very important to like engage with people and sort
- 1:10:38of have it relatable about true things that happen every day to,
- 1:10:42you know, to many, many people. Oh 100%.
- 1:10:45I think that's what got me when like because I was just liking
- 1:10:47like through them and I think I just listened in order from like
- 1:10:50the first song down and when it came on I was like, it was the
- 1:10:53first few lyrics. I feel sorry for the ones stuck
- 1:10:57in matrimony. I heard that straight away and I
- 1:10:59was like, oh and I was like. I was sort of scared of getting
- 1:11:07married because I was like everyone I seem to know has, you
- 1:11:09know, sort of gone off and got married and then all of a sudden
- 1:11:12it's gone down the toilet. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:11:15And being a recently married woman, just to let you know,
- 1:11:19this scared the living shit out of me when I heard this.
- 1:11:24But equally me and my husband have been married.
- 1:11:26Well, we'll be two years officially in April.
- 1:11:27We we had a little registry office wedding and then last
- 1:11:30year we had an actual wedding. But we have been married two
- 1:11:32years this year, but we've been together for like it'll be 9
- 1:11:35years this year. We've been together.
- 1:11:36So you know, we've practically been married for a long time.
- 1:11:40But I really did. It did struck struck a nerve
- 1:11:42with me this song, and I think it like not in like a all my
- 1:11:45marriage is ending kind of way because it wasn't like that at
- 1:11:48all. Hopefully he doesn't listen to
- 1:11:50this. He's probably in another room.
- 1:11:53But you do you actually do you do notice the things that you
- 1:11:57talk about? And I know Shannon, obviously
- 1:12:00you and your partner aren't married, but you've been
- 1:12:01together for a very long time. And I know that you probably
- 1:12:04appreciated what I was talking about when I said they were
- 1:12:07quite relatable. The story, the story vibe a bit
- 1:12:11like I think it was the bit where is it he starts to notice
- 1:12:17a change or she ever does this complain.
- 1:12:19And I was like, Oh my God, that's me.
- 1:12:22She's moan all the time. Such a literal.
- 1:12:25I'm such a whinger. But the little she doesn't do
- 1:12:29love songs anymore. You can keep Bublé at the door.
- 1:12:31It's too late for lighting candles.
- 1:12:33It seems like a mess that you can't untangle.
- 1:12:35Did the fire burn too fast? Did the sparks just fade away?
- 1:12:38Every promise couldn't last with nothing left to say.
- 1:12:40My God, Ryan, what lyrics they are.
- 1:12:44Oh, I got goosebumps reading them then as well.
- 1:12:47They are phenomenal, phenomenal songwriting.
- 1:12:51I mean, this one in itself, like it it had a you vibe.
- 1:12:56Do you know what I mean? Like a Wednesday at 7 vibe.
- 1:12:58I didn't listen to this and think, Oh, it's very busted
- 1:13:00Escort. Oh, it's McFly escort.
- 1:13:02Oh, it's naughty. It's like this is you.
- 1:13:04Like I could tell that this is like this was a deep song and
- 1:13:07this was something that you wrote really like sitting down
- 1:13:10and like thinking about what you were saying.
- 1:13:12And I think actually in general, like all of your songs are like
- 1:13:15that, but this one for me really did like, yeah, just struck a
- 1:13:19nerve. Don't know how else to put it,
- 1:13:22but yeah, absolutely loved that one.
- 1:13:25There's a couple of songs, obviously, that we'd like to
- 1:13:28speak about. You've got quite a couple on
- 1:13:31Spotify. Can we also talk about the
- 1:13:35Charlie Simpson esque style of your vocal tone please, in that
- 1:13:39song? Because I die dead, dead,
- 1:13:45literally die dead. And I remember texting Shannon,
- 1:13:47like Shannon, if you listened to this song, because he sounds
- 1:13:50like Charlie Simpson. And she's not even joking.
- 1:13:54She actually did send. That I genuinely did.
- 1:13:56I genuinely did. And you know, what's really cool
- 1:13:58is that all of the all of the songs that we've listened to of
- 1:14:02yours are so different and the vibe of them is so different.
- 1:14:05But you've got like that continuality where you can tell
- 1:14:09the sort of like vibe that you're bringing throughout all
- 1:14:11of them, even though they're very different in the, in the
- 1:14:14lyrics and the sort of style of them.
- 1:14:16But your voice is so versatile. It's actually crazy.
- 1:14:20Like how do you sound so different in like, like every
- 1:14:23song sounds so different. How do you even do that?
- 1:14:28I honestly I don't know it just. Comes naturally to me.
- 1:14:34I've been blessed and cursed at the same time, of sort of
- 1:14:39different voices, but it it all comes down to, like you said,
- 1:14:45the vibe of the song. So whatever feels right to me is
- 1:14:50what I go with. So like for honeymoon, for
- 1:14:51example, it just felt natural to go to my lower register.
- 1:14:57Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:00But then again, you go to something like talk or night
- 1:15:03drive and it's sort of more mid range, sort of a bit higher,
- 1:15:09like tumbling whiny kind of thing.
- 1:15:11Well, that we've also, I've written that down like your
- 1:15:14falsetto sections in talk, because that was mental as well.
- 1:15:18I thought that was insane. I've put da da da da da da da
- 1:15:23da. I can't remember the way the way
- 1:15:25it goes, but that was a bit. I was talking about the the
- 1:15:29intro section to talk you do your sort of it was very, very
- 1:15:33McFly for me. Like when I listened to that, I
- 1:15:36was like, Oh my God, it sounds so like their sort of vibe.
- 1:15:39You know, they do like the like, it was very much like that.
- 1:15:47And they do the do do, do, do, do, do all of those that sort of
- 1:15:51that intro with the really. Yeah.
- 1:15:54It just sounded very McFly for me.
- 1:15:56I love that. Do you want to talk us through
- 1:15:58Talk and tell us sort of about what that song is?
- 1:16:01And then I'd love to go over to to Rob and Ally and talk a
- 1:16:04little bit more about the music behind the lyrics as well.
- 1:16:07But we'll go back to you, Ryan, first.
- 1:16:08Do you want to talk us through the story of Talk?
- 1:16:26She went through me baby this morning.
- 1:16:30It's a pretty baby. That's so traumatic to me.
- 1:16:36Don't make you lonely. Why'd you never fool me?
- 1:16:39Where's that place you'd like to be?
- 1:16:51Yeah, so talk is a bit of a conflict within yourself where
- 1:17:01you might be struggling with something or someone, and that
- 1:17:05someone might be making things a hell of a lot worse by
- 1:17:08constantly pushing you to talk. Making out things will just be
- 1:17:13all right when they want. So for me, when I think about
- 1:17:18talk, it is literally you're addressing like a situation with
- 1:17:24with someone, but at the same time you find a conflict within
- 1:17:28yourself and it's sort of like expression and that that release
- 1:17:31of frustration and I don't know, just I'm just fed up with it.
- 1:17:37I just want to get rid of that horrible do.
- 1:17:39You know what, I think it's such a amazing song.
- 1:17:43And my husband isn't into like, pop rock.
- 1:17:46He listens a lot to like old songs and he's got quite a
- 1:17:49specific taste. It's wide, but it's specific.
- 1:17:52He listens to a bit of country, a bit of, I think the lyrics to
- 1:17:56this song he would love because I know that he would really
- 1:17:59relate to that. I am a talker.
- 1:18:02I really do like to talk things through.
- 1:18:04So when I listened to this for the first time, I was like, oh,
- 1:18:07this is me again. I've listened to two songs and
- 1:18:10I'm already like you're writing about my life, this is me, but
- 1:18:14I'm the other side of what you're saying.
- 1:18:16I'm the 1 whispering, saying we can talk about it, there's no
- 1:18:19need to panic. Don't be so dramatic.
- 1:18:20That is you, that's me. It really is.
- 1:18:23And when I listened to it I was like, oh for God's sake.
- 1:18:26But it's so again, the storytelling element of it, Ryan
- 1:18:30is so wonderful, I think. Do you do all the writing
- 1:18:33yourself or do the the other boys write with you a bit as
- 1:18:35well? Or is it mainly are you mainly
- 1:18:37the songwriter? It's, it's a bit of a mix up
- 1:18:41really when it comes to the like the meaning behind the song, the
- 1:18:46story of the song, if you like, a sort of, I get things going,
- 1:18:52yeah. But yeah, we we all sort of
- 1:18:54contribute to it. I love that.
- 1:18:57Like, like me and Rob will sort of go through the lyrics that
- 1:19:01I've had that I've got, or if I'm stuck on something, we sort
- 1:19:04of bounce ideas to each other. And then obviously we've got Ali
- 1:19:09Ali on drums, which is is just sensational.
- 1:19:12It just adds so much. Yeah, the backbone.
- 1:19:15Like your very own Harry Judd? Yeah.
- 1:19:19But yeah, it is, it is a collaborative sort of process.
- 1:19:23Nice. But at the same time, yeah, it
- 1:19:26sort of comes from most of the time, like conversation sounds
- 1:19:31really strange, but like, yeah, conversations I have with myself
- 1:19:34in my head, like going over life events and situations.
- 1:19:40Yeah, it's amazing. Again, it's you're a very good
- 1:19:43songwriter. All of you in contributing to
- 1:19:46the music is amazing as well. Working collaboratively moving
- 1:19:49over to to Robin Alley. I'd love to talk to you guys a
- 1:19:52little bit more about the music. Rob, I know you told me that
- 1:19:56you're you do bass and obviously like with with bass guitar ring
- 1:20:01like. I don't play guitar.
- 1:20:03I play a little bit of guitar, but I'm not very guitar yet.
- 1:20:05Shannon's the guitarist here. But bass is, I think, such an
- 1:20:10underrated instrument, don't you think?
- 1:20:13Do you think bass is underrated? Right, Yeah, I would agree.
- 1:20:18What's interesting actually is what I keep seeing on TikTok at
- 1:20:21the minute, because obviously I get like it recognises what you
- 1:20:26like to watch, don't it? So I get mixed into what seems
- 1:20:31to be content about sea lions recently is a content about bass
- 1:20:35guitars. So yeah, it caught me off guard,
- 1:20:41but I love it. So I keep seeing people posting
- 1:20:47like videos and it's like people say bass is underrated.
- 1:20:52Like hear this song without bass and like, it's just like your
- 1:20:57popular songs that you wouldn't necessarily think about into
- 1:21:00like, so the last one I heard was one of the Dua Lipa songs
- 1:21:03and they'd done it without the bass.
- 1:21:05And it's like, oh, do you know what?
- 1:21:06Like I think it makes people recognise because I don't think,
- 1:21:10I think musicians and stuff can pick out the different
- 1:21:12instruments, but people that just listen to music just listen
- 1:21:16to it and don't realise something's missing.
- 1:21:18They're like, oh, something's not right here, but I don't know
- 1:21:20what. But yeah, I think the age-old
- 1:21:24joke is that like the bassist kind of just chills players got
- 1:21:28the notes, maybe maybe knows what they're doing.
- 1:21:32And yeah, like I think I know we've spoke a lot about talk,
- 1:21:37but I'll talk about talk as well.
- 1:21:39Is that the baseline in that is is really quite?
- 1:21:43Yeah, it's it's it's quite prominent.
- 1:21:46And the same in Back of the Line as well.
- 1:21:49That's also a really sort of prominent baseline as well.
- 1:21:52Like without them in there, I feel like the songs lose quite a
- 1:21:56bit of life. 100%, yeah. That's why I wanted to sort of
- 1:21:59touch on that bass sort of side of things because it really is,
- 1:22:02it is prominent, especially if you do have a musical ear.
- 1:22:05But can we also talk about your backing vocals, please?
- 1:22:07Because I live for a harmony and I love, absolutely, I love it.
- 1:22:14I love the backing vocals. I think that obviously Ryan's
- 1:22:18voice is amazing and we talked about his verses utility and
- 1:22:20stuff earlier, But equally as a backing vocalist, it's important
- 1:22:25to blend in and not take any sort of shine away from the the
- 1:22:30lead singer. But also it's so important to
- 1:22:32get it right. And I know you said earlier, you
- 1:22:35know, you, I think you put yourself down a little bit as a,
- 1:22:37as a backing singer earlier, but I think you're wonderful and I
- 1:22:40love your harmonies. Do you, do you enjoy like the
- 1:22:44singing aspect of it, or are you more like you like the guitarist
- 1:22:47and you just do the singing because you've got to?
- 1:22:49I'm much more focusing on bass by a country mile.
- 1:22:53Like when we did backing vocals at first the person we record
- 1:22:59with it was a case of because Ryan's got such a broad vocal
- 1:23:06tone. Like funnily enough, Honeymoon
- 1:23:10actually was in a higher Kia 1st and and it slowly sort of
- 1:23:16changed. Yeah, it went through quite a
- 1:23:18few reiterations. And when it comes to the backing
- 1:23:22vocals, mine in that are really sort of like low sat in the back
- 1:23:27of the mix. And but yeah, when we done it,
- 1:23:33in my head I was thinking that this don't sound great, but the
- 1:23:35guy we record with, it was just like, Oh yeah, this is
- 1:23:38ridiculous. How well they sort of.
- 1:23:40Fit with each other so good so good and you know what it it
- 1:23:43does add another layer to the song as well like genuinely
- 1:23:46having backing vocals I think is so important and harmonies just
- 1:23:49make a song change completely so we enjoyed it you're.
- 1:23:53Such a big fan of harmonies. We could even, we could be like
- 1:23:56in a karaoke booth and she's like, come on, I'm singing the
- 1:23:58harmony. Literally, I will harmonise to
- 1:24:01anything, like you could literally be crying and I will
- 1:24:03try and harmonise with you, yeah.
- 1:24:05But you, you guys said you were music theatre, right?
- 1:24:08Like music theatre, theatre history harmonies definitely
- 1:24:12make Yeah. I don't know in West End shows
- 1:24:15anything like that. As soon as a harmony hits, it's
- 1:24:17like. 100% it's the background of theatre actually.
- 1:24:21Here, Yes, yes, absolutely. It really is.
- 1:24:23It really is. We love it.
- 1:24:24And I remember my friends like like getting annoyed with me
- 1:24:27when I was younger because I would never sing the main
- 1:24:29melody. I'd always sing the harmony.
- 1:24:31That's what he just that's. What Bradley does in the car, to
- 1:24:33me, he's like, why are you singing it wrong?
- 1:24:35I'm like, I'm not. Singing the harmony he's.
- 1:24:39Like shut up. My goodness.
- 1:24:42OK, we're going to move on to the last song, which I know we,
- 1:24:46we haven't spoke about night Drive, but we'll, we'll sort.
- 1:24:49I wanted to focus a little bit on back of the line because when
- 1:24:52me and Shannon first discovered your page, now it was me
- 1:24:55originally that discovered your reel that said like, looking for
- 1:24:58Busted and McFly fans who love like pop punk music.
- 1:25:01And I was like, Oh my God, that's us.
- 1:25:04Hello. Hi, and I commented straight
- 1:25:06away and I remember messaging Shannon, I mean, like I just
- 1:25:08found this band and they like they sound like similar to the
- 1:25:11style and I've messaged them and hope they'll come on the podcast
- 1:25:15and here we are. So you know, my little fangirl
- 1:25:17moment. But Back of the Line was the
- 1:25:20song that we heard a lot at the beginning because I think it was
- 1:25:23one that you were promoting a bit more on your Instagram.
- 1:25:25And like all of the videos that we we saw had Back of the Line
- 1:25:30sort of in or like over the top of like an overlay.
- 1:25:33So talk us through Back of the Line and sort of what it means
- 1:25:37to you guys because it seems like it's quite a big song for
- 1:25:40you. Do you think it's one of your
- 1:25:41bigger? Do you like prefer this to your
- 1:25:43other songs? Is it one of your favourites?
- 1:25:45It seemed to overtake your Instagram a bit.
- 1:25:48Ali, should we go to you because I feel like we haven't heard
- 1:25:50from you for a while. I mean, yeah, I would say, I
- 1:25:55think in terms of all the songs that we've worked on, that back
- 1:25:59of the line definitely became like one of our favourites.
- 1:26:02I mean, I'm talking for all of us now, but I'd say, yeah, it,
- 1:26:05it felt quite experimental almost compared.
- 1:26:08I'd say like it has a much more heavier sound than than the
- 1:26:11other songs that we've released. And that was really what we were
- 1:26:15working for you. We were working for this whole
- 1:26:17like portfolio of different sounds.
- 1:26:19And, and, and I think you said earlier, like we do have every
- 1:26:23song we have is, is slightly different in a way.
- 1:26:25Yeah, I think it's, it's, it's us being able to experiment with
- 1:26:29like, with different sounds and with different, yeah, like, like
- 1:26:32heavinesses and things like that.
- 1:26:33And I think back of the Line was definitely quite experimental.
- 1:26:36And when we did that, that breakdown in it, that bit was
- 1:26:39just like, I don't know, that's what we've anytime we go to a
- 1:26:43rehearsal, we always, I think it might be me that leads into it.
- 1:26:46But when we're just jamming, I always go into 1/2 time sort of
- 1:26:50breakdown vibe. And it's because I've always
- 1:26:52wanted to slip it into a song somewhere.
- 1:26:54And now we've finally got it in a song.
- 1:26:56So I get my way. I love that.
- 1:26:59But yeah, I mean, in terms of like what that song kind of
- 1:27:02means, yeah. Ryan's always the best person.
- 1:27:04He's he's a lyric man. He's the lyric master man, so.
- 1:27:09It's a bit darker in its in its vibe.
- 1:27:12And there's like a little bit on Spotify.
- 1:27:14I've got it next to me just so that I could like flick through
- 1:27:17the lyrics while we were talking about it.
- 1:27:19There's like a bit of a video in the background of you guys and
- 1:27:22it's so cool. It's awesome.
- 1:27:23It looks so professional and so like something you would see on
- 1:27:26like Kerrang. Do you know what I mean?
- 1:27:27Like, I love it. It's so cool, Yeah.
- 1:27:30That was our that was our first music video.
- 1:27:32So you filmed the full music video?
- 1:27:33I think I've got access to that. I think Rob sent me some of your
- 1:27:36files. So I'm looking forward to having
- 1:27:38a look at the music video. I focused on listening to the
- 1:27:40music because we were doing audio and not video this time,
- 1:27:43but I would definitely click on that later and have a little
- 1:27:46look at that. How did you feel in in doing a
- 1:27:49music video? Was that like fun?
- 1:27:51Did you enjoy it? Was it like a nerve wracking
- 1:27:53process? Yeah, Joe, I thought it was
- 1:27:56really good. It's definitely.
- 1:27:59Yeah, it's definitely different. We end up playing that song so
- 1:28:02many times. I'll give a little insight into
- 1:28:05it. So when you watch it, I don't
- 1:28:07know if, like any of you, are fans of Stranger Things at all.
- 1:28:11Oh. My God absolutely stands.
- 1:28:14OK, OK. Yeah, literally.
- 1:28:18So yeah, me and Ali are really big fans, the Stranger Things as
- 1:28:21well. And I mean, Ryan is, but I don't
- 1:28:25think he's like the same level as as us.
- 1:28:28So on tour, actually we went, we went to the Stranger Things Cafe
- 1:28:30in Manchester as well. It's in the Primark, but that's
- 1:28:32a that's a that's a side quest. But yeah, no, the the music
- 1:28:38video, that was the it's heavily inspired by the Upside Down is
- 1:28:43all I'll say. So Oh my gosh, I'm.
- 1:28:45So excited to see it. Absolutely bossing.
- 1:28:49That sounds so cool. Oh, thank you so much for
- 1:28:51sharing that with us. Because you don't often get like
- 1:28:54insights into behind the songs and behind music videos and
- 1:28:57things. And those are like little things
- 1:28:58that only the band would know. So I feel like we've got a bit
- 1:29:00of inside knowledge there. Thank you very much.
- 1:29:05It's that time again for us to say thank you so much for
- 1:29:08listening and joining us for another episode of Galaxy
- 1:29:10Crashers coming up next week. We're heading back to McFly with
- 1:29:14Met This Girl. Oh yes, what a banger and
- 1:29:17obviously a massive, massive thank you to you guys for
- 1:29:21joining us. Would you like to do a quick
- 1:29:24plug for your socials and your new shows and your music?
- 1:29:28Yeah, absolutely. So we'll start with our socials.
- 1:29:31They are Wednesday at seven across the board that is spelt
- 1:29:35WNSDY. So if you have a smart speaker
- 1:29:39and you want to ask them to play it, you have to spell it out
- 1:29:42because we didn't think about that when we named that band.
- 1:29:44Oh my. Gosh.
- 1:29:47Show wise, we've got a few coming up, so our next show is
- 1:29:52supporting a band called Waster, if you've heard of them, that'll
- 1:29:55be on the 27th of February in Sheffield.
- 1:29:58And then after that we have got a few shows.
- 1:30:02We've got a headline show, fairly local on the 20th of
- 1:30:05March and then we're supporting a band from France called 2
- 1:30:07Trains Left on the 7th of April in Leeds.
- 1:30:11So yeah, thank you. There you go.
- 1:30:15So if you drop us a follow, you'll see wherever we're
- 1:30:17playing next after them. Amazing.
- 1:30:20And we will come and find you when you come a little bit
- 1:30:22further down South. We will come and find you and we
- 1:30:25will be front row. And I'll be waiting for that
- 1:30:27lyric, Ryan, that lyric change and the Busted song.
- 1:30:29I'll be waiting. OK, Thank you so much, guys.
- 1:30:33Honestly, it's been amazing. And I think the fact that we've
- 1:30:35been talking for an over an hour and a half an hour goes to show
- 1:30:37how much fun we've had. So thank you for joining us.
- 1:30:40Good luck with all of your shows this year and we really can't
- 1:30:42wait to keep up to date with what you've been up to.
- 1:30:45Thank you so much. Thank you for having us.
- 1:30:48Thank you. So welcome and obviously to our
- 1:30:52lovely listeners. As always, keep your playlist
- 1:30:54loud. And happiness in your hearts.
- 1:30:57Goodbye. Bye.
