Transcript
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: Welcome back.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Today's episode is a little different from our traditional guest interviews.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: You've heard Erica Painter from my VBK on the podcast before.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: I think we interviewed her in March of 2025.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: Look that up.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Before this time, we were looking at her work through the eyes of an actual client, our very own co-host, Miss Jamie Runco.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Jamie is sharing what happened when she discovered that her income had been duplicated in her books, and how she finally gained clarity around her real numbers and what changed after she began implementing profit first with Erica's guidance.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: This is an honest behind-the-scenes conversation about the financial side of growing a cleaning business, the confusion, the hard realizations, and the confidence that comes when every dollar finally has a job.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: So let's get to it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Me?
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: You welcome back to the cleaning business list.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I am your co-host, Jamie Runkel, up in Northern California.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: And today we have Shannon and one of my very favorite people right now, Erica, with my tattoo.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: For now.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: You'll understand.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Well, she's also given me a lot of headache.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: She pays me to give her headache, so well, growing is not easy.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: It takes a lot of effort to grow as a person, as a company, as a human.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: So I I I wanted to introduce you.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Me and Erica, obviously, we work together.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: She's my advisor.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: She started off as my bookkeeper.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: And it was actually whenever we interviewed her the first time on the Cleaning Business Life podcast that I was like, I think I might need a bookkeeper because the one person that I had was I don't even know what she was doing, but she was definitely steering me in the wrong direction.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: You know, writing stuff off that I didn't I wasn't really allowed to be writing off.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Just she didn't know the industry.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And then we we interviewed her, and that's how we met.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: And so she became my bookkeeper.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: I hired her as my bookkeeper, and then she had a lot of cleaning up to do from my 2024.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of background noise.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: Maybe, Erica, you can take your your video off so that you get better bandwidth.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: You're freezing on the frames.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: Okay, perfect.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: I think that might be better.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: Even though I'd like to see your face.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: It's just there's a lot of background.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: Do you hear that, Jamie, or is it just me?
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I hear a little bit.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, there we go.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: Okay, is that better?
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Is that better?
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I believe so.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: If you need me to go outside, I can as well.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: So okay.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Go ahead.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: So yeah, uh, she started helping me with my bookkeeping.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And um, I believe in the uh once that was all cleaned up, she literally told me you guys that it was like trying to do brain surgery, fixing my books.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And I had no clue.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: I I I don't I knew how to clean, you know what I'm saying?
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: I knew how to get clients, I knew how to do stuff I didn't know about the bookkeeping part.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: There's there's a whole nother level of stuff that as you grow and evolve that you start needing.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: And the bookkeeper is the first thing that you'll you'll need as you start growing.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's something that I delegated out.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: But January of this year, I started realizing I needed something a little bit more than just bookkeeping.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: And I had no idea.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, I was boo-hooing to Erica about this, that, and the other, and realized, or she told me that she actually offers advice like advisor.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Advisor stuff being it yeah, she advises consulting, that type of thing.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: For those of you who don't know, Erica is from my virtual bookkeeper.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: We have had her on in the past, and she's gonna tell us about some of the nice things that she's getting into, and Jamie is fortunate, it's really static y.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know, there's a lot of background.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: You have a lot of background, Erica.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: I can hear the music in the background.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: That's so crazy.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Normally, my AirPods are like way better than this, so I am going to walk outside as I'm talking about.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: That's perfect.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: So hopefully that will help.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, so first of all, thank you guys so much for having me on again.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I waited this long to do it.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, to be back on.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: So thanks for having me.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know if this is any better, but we're gonna roll with it for now.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: Um but so since we've talked last, I've actually rebranded.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I dropped the My Virtual Bookkeeper.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: You know, it just felt a little 2020.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Maybe like I think maybe because it was born in 2020.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, I went back and forth on sorry, go ahead.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Uh kind of like a COVID era.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: It I think everybody has.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's exactly what happens.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: You know, I kinda I just dropped and went with my I already had my V VK as my uh dot-com, so that's what we rolled with.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: And so that's that's kind of what I am now.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: But um, but yeah, I you know a lot of people ask, like, well, how did you end up in the cleaning industry?
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: And it's a funny story because I had hired a marketing coach or whatever, and he was like, You have to pick a niche, and I was like, at the time I had four clients, okay.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: I was like, a niche, like I don't know.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: I looked at my client list and two of them were cleaners, and I was like, Okay, we're gonna roll with the cleaning industry.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: But then I started like joining all the groups and you know, meeting all the people and you know, going on the podcasts, and you know, you start to really know the people a little bit deeper, but um, it's not just the people, but the industry as well, you know, their struggles, you know, their wins, you know, the things that happened to it's kind of funny because I saw somebody today was like, This is a stupid question, but and I'm like, No, we all had that question at some point or another, we all started with that question, and um, so yeah, I just like hanging out with you guys.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: So y'all are kind of stuck with me forever now.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Um, because um, you know, I just love I love it here.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Uh I see a lot of questions, and whenever I see a uh financial question, I I'm like, oh, I got you.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I know who can answer that question.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: And you're you're also really specifically very well versed, especially with implementing like Jabber to QuickBooks.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: We all see those.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: I see it constantly inside of the groups of their double what is that their double entries.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Double entries.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: And then they think the system is broke and not working right.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: And I I was probably one of those people, and it wasn't until um, like I said, in January, whenever I was like, you know, I I need something more, and and Erica is like, yeah, I do that too.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, what?
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: What?
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And it was a lot, you guys.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm not nowhere where I need to be.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Uh it did not the business did not suddenly become like easy.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Like it wasn't like I woke up and it's easy all of a sudden, but I I was a I'm able to start seeing clearly now.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Like I can see clearly where everything is.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: I was wondering constantly why I was broke.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: I I felt broke.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Well, I knew the business was making money, but it comes out.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Well, I think that's the problem.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: You know, I think people are very passive.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: You know, they start a business, they just do the things, and they're very passive because that's really all they know how to do.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: But when you start getting intentional and you start knowing the things, that doesn't mean you have to know all the things.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: But when you start, you know, being intentional about you didn't you had an idea.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Let me just say this.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: When we started working together, you thought you were at a number and you were like, This is what I'm making per year.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: That's because the previous person had jobber integrated, and you had double, you know, duplicate income.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: So you were actually only making about half of what you thought you were.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Once we once we knew what you what was going on.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: That was a hard hit.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: But once we knew what was going on and we had everything cleaned up, you hit you doubled your income in a year's time.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: So that's really all it was is you know, you thought you were one place, found out you were a little bit farther behind, but then you know, once you knew, and then since then, um, I would say you've probably grown another 25 to 30 percent just since you know, since that duplication happened.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: That's incredible, Jamie.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Pat yourself on the back for that.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, man.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you, I wanted to beat this thing up.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Beat it up.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: I and I'm gonna say something else, you guys.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: I know that you've heard us talk about it several times, and if you're wondering who this person is or what they do, you need to start reading profit first and understanding what that is.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Only whenever that, and I'm gonna tell you, it took me, we had to do a lot of adjusting.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: I had to get my spending under control.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: So there was prep involved.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: There was prep involved before we could even.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, Erica told me, okay, we're we're gonna push the button August 1st of this year.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: So that is when that started happening, and but they it exposed so much.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: It exposed so much to me whenever we implemented the profit first.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: I was so scared to do an online bank and not have somebody local to me.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, if I can't even keep up with these four bank accounts that I have at this local bank, what d what in God's green earth do you think?
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: How am I gonna have six bank accounts?
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: And um I'm gonna tell you guys and we're only one month in.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: One month in, and I'm seeing numbers that I've never seen before in my bank account.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Every dollar that comes into my income bucket has a job to do.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: It goes to where it I out of sight, out of mind, I mean I get to watch it grow.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: All these income buckets grow, or these the taxes, the opex, the the profit first.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: And if you guys are listening and don't understand what any of this is, please scroll back and go get the book.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Shannon, I think you have the book.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Let's show them the book.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Okay, here.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: This book has is is a game changer, and if you start now, I truly believe that it changes everything.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: And and it it's not just for right now.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: I'm in the startup phase of it.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: There's, you know, once I start growing, there's gonna be other buckets that I, you know, I've already watched, you know, a vault, a drip fund, uh, you know, we're gonna start growing and evolving, but I have never, you guys, never seen this amount of money.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: I don't have a cry.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: I've never seen this amount of money in my um in my bank accounts, and it's all like it, it all has a place I know what to touch and what not to touch, and what's mine, like I'm allowed to pay myself now.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Before I was just oh, bill is due.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: And Erica took me and was like really trying to show me you cannot do that.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: So I we had to try and really get a hold of separating.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: I was so messy, you guys.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, I probably was probably one of the hardest clients she's ever worked with.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: But it's like I I see so much light at the end of the tunnel.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Well, I think you know, we we also want to remember we started out with, you know, we talked about your goals.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Where do you want to see yourself, right?
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Because if you don't have a vision and a goal to work towards, then really what are we doing, right?
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: And so once we sat down and we talked about these goals, you know, we talked about, you know, how we're gonna get to those goals, and we talked about how profit first fits into that vision.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: I'll go ahead and say profit first is not for everybody, but it's for most.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, there are some people who don't need it because their brain works in the right way that they don't have to have to use it.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: But if you at all feel messy, then it absolutely I started my business on it.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: As soon as I started my business, I was like, we're gonna do the profit first method for a couple reasons.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: I used to be a hairdresser.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: If that cash went in my pocket, it was mine, okay?
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: It wasn't the IRS's, it wasn't for supplies, it wasn't for my booth rent, it was for me.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: And then when my booth rent was due and I had to buy supplies and I had to pay my taxes, I was like, oh shish, you know what I mean?
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Like, now what am I supposed to do?
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: So when I started my bookkeeping business, I was like, We're we're not doing that, okay?
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: We are gonna do this the right way, and I have never had to borrow a dime for my business because if I can't afford it, I don't buy it.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Now, I will say that there are some businesses, you know, where you have to borrow.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: So I'm not like one of those judgy people, you know, if you do, but but yeah, so we started out with you know, your visions, we celebrate your wins, you know, that's something that we do on the regular, is um, is celebrate your wins, and so I just you know wanted to point that out as well.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, so we're implementing.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: I remember you messaging me on Facebook and was like, girl, I've never seen this much money in my bank account, and it feels so good, but it's because you know that that is for this, this is for that, don't touch it, no transfers, you know.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, it's it's definitely it is it feels good, you know, watching you grow and seeing, you know, where you've where you started a couple years ago as to where you are now.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I exactly.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: And I I just yeah, like you said, there it's not for everybody.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Some people can just be like, I they can do that.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: I am not one of those people.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: I'm like, what do you mean I have to pay for uh taxes?
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: I earn this money, like it's my cash, it's my money, yeah.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: So visibly, I I just I can't wait for the next goal of of seeing tens of thousands of dollars in there versus what I'm seeing now, and I know it's gonna happen.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Like the confidence it gives you, uh there's there's no doubt in my mind.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: So yes, yes, yes, yes, it's exciting.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Um what was I going to say?
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: It came and then it went.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: But yeah, anyways, super, super excited to see how it's how it's going.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Um I wanted to mention a couple things.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, can I do a little intro right here today?
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: This is like brand new information.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: So I have been my VBK for you know a few years now.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Um, and then when I really decided to focus in on um cleaning companies, I have so many big ideas, okay?
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: I can't even tell you all of them right now because it'll probably take me forever to implement it all, but I have a huge amount of ideas.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: So I have really narrowed down my focus to cleaning companies, but I want to grow with you.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: So you can be solo, just started, you know, bringing in maybe 25 a year.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: You can be at 5 million, you know, with 30 plus employees.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: I want to grow with you.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: So I have started cleancoceo.com.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: And so this is where you can come to learn about bookkeeping.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Right now it just has bookkeeping and advisory, but I'm gonna start adding resources.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: So the Clean Co Profit Pro Calculator, my budgeting spreadsheet, you know, so we have a quite a few things that are gonna be released soon.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: So check out my new website.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Also, just released a blog, and as I'm it's kind of like, you know, it starts in the you know, learning your numbers part, and then we're going into um, you know, finances, keeping your business and personal finances separate.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: So, you know, if you want to go somewhere to kind of learn, you know, as you grow, check out my new, my new blog on my website.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yes, definitely.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: I I I just no matter where anybody is at, I always believe that you know, um you start off with the bookkeeper, and of course we do the accountant, and then you know, you go up and then you're like in CFO and fractional, like all of all of those other big words where this is where we're starting to grow to, and um you'll see that you need that kind of um well, I know I do.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: I I need that kind of of of somebody helping me steer the wheel here.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: The support, the support, yes.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Well, also I think that um one thing that I've seen grow in you over the course of since we've been doing advisory is confidence.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: You know, you're able to you just hired somebody again, um, and you know, like, but you can see your payroll account.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: You're like, okay, I can hire, I can hire again.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, so that was a big confidence grow.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: So some of the things that uh you've helped me do uh is uh geez, switching over bank accounts.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: That's that was huge.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Switching payroll providers.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: I I you guys y'all y'all Jamie's with Gusto again.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, she's she's with gusto again.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: I will never go back to Gusto.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: She's with Gusto again.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: So we're we're with Gusto and I'm doing pay as you guys.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: work comp and and I was able to easily do uh I did an onboarding yesterday um we have it set up to where we give them a you are hired letter they have to to accept it and then um then they we can run their background check on them and it was within minutes like gusto does that all for you so that's great and learning our numbers that was huge I I really needed to know what KPIs I needed to be watching out for and what my numbers actually were because I couldn't I could not see it with that bank account until I switched over to relay which is the banking that um it's specifically for the profit first uh it's made specifically for entrepreneurs and I just yeah I'm able to see if I'm able to hire um because sometimes I'm in a season where it's like not a good idea to do that right now.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Before I was just like you know sticking it wherever it went.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: How about when you realized how how much you how about when you realized how much you were making per hour do you remember that feeling when we were going over the uh calculator and you were like wait hold on let me let me take a picture of this you know how much you're making per hour now is like and you're not in the field you know so you are taking home this amount and you know I'm just gonna say it's a pretty pretty decent amount and um you know the only thing you're doing in the field is walk throughs.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah well you did catch me I I believe I was telling Shannon on the last episode that uh you caught me you were like well what is why were you called in and it was like June something and I'm like thinking what I was like how does she know that and I it was like oh that's right I went over to try and help train and you know whenever you're like trying to say oh you need to get here and get here you just start end up like getting lost on a move out clean it's like man this is a big house let's I'm gonna I'll be over here on this side now that you know what to do I'll come check on your work but that was probably the last time and even before that uh that was the last time that I was in worked like in the business with back in June which was one day and even before that I I've been completely out and it's just been a complete and total game changer since hiring so thank you for that yeah yeah no problem no problem and how are you liking the Jobber gusto integration so we got Jobber you know syncing directly over to gusto you don't even have to like go find how long everybody works sinks right over boom and let me tell you I I thought forever I was like well that's gonna suck because I'll have to go back and manually look and see what everybody's taxes are.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Nope all you do is you put in on job or AI and say separate everybody's taxes or everybody's tips and what did everybody make per job for last week and it spits it out.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: What that that's awesome that's awesome hot dog yeah I've never I know I've never understood the um the frustration with the jobber QBO integration don't get me wrong like it is a little bit of a learning curve you know if especially if you're not comfortable with QuickBooks as a whole we keep up how many times have we reached out to you and like hey can you close out this uh this invoice and um did the there's a deposit that never got used yes see I'm like why are they zeroing in on this one I don't know she's like I'll just do for for future references this is how you do it and I'm like oh okay yes ma'am no I actually love the integration so me too uh systems this is whenever we talk about systems this is exactly what we're talking about and it it don't happen overnight you guys you have to actually sit down like I'll work with Erica she exposes some stuff we talk about wins losses and then after that that's whenever the work really happens like that is I I am down into the computer and like but there is a system now and um it's flowing and it's becoming so much like so easy what used to take me about an hour to two hours to do payroll to make sure looking at all the jobs it it now is taking me minutes and gosh it's just yeah that's we you gotta implement your systems to get to the next level is that what I'm you know to the next I I don't know it's freed up a lot there's a lot of pressure off of my chest now well there's always something that you can be working on um you know so as soon as your time gets freed up in one area something else comes comes up but you definitely have to be intentional and don't waste your money hiring a coach or an advisor if you're not going to to do the things that they tell you to do.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Shannon I'm sure you've you have a lot of experience in that you know people hire you as a coach and then they don't do the thing and then they're like eh you know it was okay but no like I can't I can't do it for you you know I can't I can't do it all for you I can just point it out yeah I I can also re I also remember the first time that I was like is that money mine am I allowed to take that money and Erica goes honey that's your money I was like yeah why I can that's mine I can I'm gonna put it from there to there I can have that uh but I don't think you just changed my books you know but I think that you can help other people that are like me change the way they see money and see your their selves as a business owner and learning that money in the bank is not permission to spend it and paying yourself is not stealing it you're not stealing your own money you're allowed to have that that setting aside taxes is not an option it's not an optional thing you're not allowed to just you know because then it it's the last thing you're you're gonna do you're not gonna do that because that money's all right there and revenue alone does not mean success I'm still having this all set up has exposed a lot it exposes where your leaks are and where it needs patched and Erica did a lot of of uh fixing and helping me build that but I'm it's the first time in my life that I've ever had a financial operating system that's working well all the systems are working together QuickBooks Jobber gusto everything is working together so that I'm able to see and make real decisions based on those those numbers instead of everything becoming an emergency right that's never fun I think I what I appreciate the most about this conversation Miss Erica is the fact that you are giving people the guidance with money and balancing the checks and balances of the ins and outs of our industry and I really appreciate you having the knowledge to show that because this is the first and I I know I'm on my soapbox here this is the first time in all of America that women in particular and there are guys here we still love you have an opportunity at really making some money.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: If there wasn't money here Grant Cardone and Alex Horizani would not be in dibbling their toe in the cleaning industry.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: So having all of your books in order and and Jamie can tell you the nightmare experiences she's had I I had my my tax guy died on tax day and his wife took over the whole thing.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: She didn't know what she was doing she didn't do my draws it took me months to sort it out um you know with the help of others but it just was like there's a lot of unfortunately there's a lot of people who don't know what they don't know and then there's people who do know but they don't do it the right way so it sounds like you've gotten a formal track record of a method in place for people to actually come to you and you can kind of give them the guidance they need.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: And I think that's so needed right now in our industry.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: Absolutely especially because first of all more people are getting their house cleaned every day I mean you know what used to be there used to be you know the wife at home and the husband would go to work you know now you've got both parents having two and three jobs sometimes and you know we don't we don't have time to clean our houses so you know entering into the cleaning industry at any time is a good time and so but the problem is is that people don't realize when they start their business that whether your business is large or small there's you have to have an accounting department a marketing department a sales department an operations department you know and we just want to take that accounting department as much off of your hands as we can obviously we're virtual we're not walking into your office with you but the more access you give your accountant the less you have to do I mean ask Jamie now you know now that she has relay I can see every check coming through I know exactly what bank feed um you know what sorry what invoice it goes to because I can see the name you know on the front of the check and so uh you know this is this is the part we love this is the part we love taking off the plates of the cleaning business owners definitely yeah I think this is the biggest uh one of the biggest transitions in the middle we're that's what we're talking about we're in the messy middle and um this is probably the one of the biggest I am learning how to do leadership and all that that's very hard too HR and all that stuff but this and have making sure that I know what to look for and I know there's other people out there just like me I know there is so if you guys are feeling just if if anything like resonates with you here Erica will she does a free a free audit right like at the end I do a a free I do a free you know chat call you know and then beyond that um we do have a paid diagnostic review but it just kind of depends on where you're at on whether that's something we have to implement or not but you know having somebody you know having me for instance Jamie when you run into something you can ask any of your business owner friends like you know hey what do I do about this but nobody's gonna know like me and Brittany and Aaliyah you know what I'm saying like inside your business so so yeah it's definitely definitely worth and there's a certain vulnerability to that oh where did Shannon go did we lose her?
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know I think she did we did we did well let's just wrap this up right now I'm gonna have Shannon link in the show notes how to get a hold of you and also I would really be honored if you guys mentioned that Jamie with the cleaning business live podcast mentioned that um you know we go you need an Erica right I think that everybody should need an an Erica and clean co CEO yes ma'am yeah yes ma'am is that is that are you totally switching over from my VBK no ma'am so it's just like a division you know just a division powered by my V VK so it's just it's the portion where I can like truly focus on the cleaning business owners they you know my VBK doesn't really have anything to do with cleaning you know and so I just wanted people to realize um the resources that you know that they have so well we lost Shannon you guys but I will I know whenever she goes back to edit this we um she'll she'll do right by it for now let's just wrap it up and again we'll leave some stuff down on the bottom of the show notes I'm sure Shannon will and um we'll continue this conversation soon.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: Yes ma'am thank you both for having me on Shannon I'm so sad you left us if you didn't like us you could have just you know said something but no I'm just playing no but thanks again for having me I super appreciate it and you know I'll be seeing you like you know in like a week so yeah exactly and we'll be talking about more like S Corp stuff because that's where we're starting to grow too yep yay yes I'm excited all right all right you guys everybody talk soon bye bye
