Latest / Foul Territory / Curtis Granderson: NLCS thoughts, Pujols as manager, Volpe’s surgery
Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Back on foul territory with Kratz. Go ahead, do it?
- 0:06Speaker 1: Did you announce me?
- 0:08Speaker 2: Brandy Man? Look at that tooth too, with his teeth
- 0:11Speaker 2: all nice and yeah, see it's all better if you
- 0:15Speaker 2: look back to NLCS. Grandy slid in like nine minutes
- 0:20Speaker 2: before his wedding, and he slid into slid into second base,
- 0:24Speaker 2: and his helmet came off, hit the base, came back,
- 0:27Speaker 2: chipped his tooth. What an amazing story, beautiful man.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Still good dentist to have. That was the big thing.
- 0:34Speaker 4: And you know what it is if you notice now
- 0:36Speaker 4: a lot of players when they're swinging, their helmets are
- 0:38Speaker 4: falling off. So I don't know if it was this
- 0:40Speaker 4: new helmet that they were trying to implement, but my
- 0:42Speaker 4: helmet has never fallen off when I slid and then
- 0:46Speaker 4: all of a sudden that one pops off, hits the
- 0:49Speaker 4: base and bam right into the tooth, chipped it. And
- 0:52Speaker 4: the funny thing is it was justin turner and I
- 0:55Speaker 4: looking for it on the ground at the second.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Base, couldn't find it.
- 1:00Speaker 4: My lips all swollen up the next day, so I'm
- 1:02Speaker 4: at the dentist. I go by any chances in my
- 1:04Speaker 4: lip and they go, let's X ray it. And look,
- 1:06Speaker 4: if I didn't say anything, I'd still have a piece
- 1:08Speaker 4: of tooth in my lip right now, right, It's true story.
- 1:14Speaker 1: That is crazy. That's how we kick off a conversation.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Well, still one of the best smiles in baseball, long time,
- 1:20Speaker 5: big Leier, and you can hear them on all of
- 1:22Speaker 5: Turner's coverage of the postseason right now. So, Grandy, what
- 1:25Speaker 5: do you think of the series that you're covering?
- 1:27Speaker 3: Man, it's been crazy.
- 1:28Speaker 4: You know, Cratzy, you got a chance to be there
- 1:30Speaker 4: when we were there in eighteen. I mean, that place
- 1:32Speaker 4: can rock up in Milwaukee. The fans are excited, they're
- 1:36Speaker 4: looking forward to it. They had just knocked off the
- 1:38Speaker 4: Cubs and then boom, here come the Dodgers and they
- 1:42Speaker 4: have been non stop. You know, Dave Roberts, I got
- 1:45Speaker 4: a chance to cover that series when it was Dodgers Phillies,
- 1:49Speaker 4: right when the Phillies clinched during the regular season, and
- 1:52Speaker 4: you do the pre manager interviews and Dave Roberts said, Hey,
- 1:55Speaker 4: I feel like we're lined up as best as we've
- 1:58Speaker 4: ever been to have four actual starters for the playoffs.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Last year, it was all bullpenned for us, and we
- 2:06Speaker 4: threw anybody at any time and it worked. But this
- 2:09Speaker 4: year we're gonna be almost traditional slash New Wave unconventional
- 2:14Speaker 4: because we actually have starters, and we have multiple of them,
- 2:17Speaker 4: and not only do they have them, they have been delivering.
- 2:21Speaker 4: I mean, Blake Snell looked like he wasn't even sweating,
- 2:24Speaker 4: like he was just playing catch and then got one
- 2:26Speaker 4: up by Yamamoto. I thought, just the pitching staff has
- 2:30Speaker 4: done an amazing job for the Dodgers, more so than
- 2:33Speaker 4: the Brewers have not performed. I think when sometimes you're
- 2:38Speaker 4: just getting beat up, you just got to give credit
- 2:40Speaker 4: where credits due, and that pitching staff for those two
- 2:43Speaker 4: performances in game one. In Game two, they sucked all
- 2:46Speaker 4: the wind out of what is it called American something field,
- 2:50Speaker 4: It's not called Millon. Yeah, we'll call the Brewers' home stadium.
- 2:55Speaker 4: They sucked it all out of them, and they've done
- 2:57Speaker 4: an amazing job of doing that. And we'll see if
- 2:59Speaker 4: they can keep it going for Game three in LA.
- 3:02Speaker 4: But it's going to be a tough hill to climb
- 3:05Speaker 4: for the Brewers to try to get one, let alone
- 3:08Speaker 4: try to even this thing.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Out before we hit anything specific with this team. These
- 3:14Speaker 2: two teams pull yourself back like seventeen you played for
- 3:18Speaker 2: the Dodgers, eighteen you played for the Brewers, and the
- 3:21Speaker 2: Curtis Granderson effect. Both teams have been in the postseason
- 3:25Speaker 2: all but one season. The Brewers missed it. Where do
- 3:28Speaker 2: they where do they align? And where are you? Like? Whoa?
- 3:33Speaker 2: They are two separate ways of getting to the exact
- 3:37Speaker 2: same spot.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I think the I think the biggest thing is the
- 3:41Speaker 4: money first and foremost. You know, you have the Dodgers
- 3:44Speaker 4: and how much they spend and Mark Walter over there,
- 3:47Speaker 4: he's gonna spend it. He's gonna open his pockets up,
- 3:49Speaker 4: He's going to keep going. But he spends it because
- 3:51Speaker 4: he has it. He has the amount of money to
- 3:54Speaker 4: be able to do it. It's arguably one of the
- 3:56Speaker 4: biggest media markets in the world. They have people that
- 3:59Speaker 4: know about it from the far East to the west,
- 4:03Speaker 4: to central north and south. There's Dodger fans just to
- 4:07Speaker 4: and through.
- 4:07Speaker 3: The Brewers.
- 4:08Speaker 4: On the other hand, they're not that they are the
- 4:11Speaker 4: smallest media market in baseball.
- 4:13Speaker 3: They're in Milwaukee, they're in the state of Wisconsin.
- 4:16Speaker 4: A lot of fans may not have been to this
- 4:18Speaker 4: ballpark yet they may not know much about this team,
- 4:21Speaker 4: but I think the things that both of them do well,
- 4:24Speaker 4: and you both were all talking about it before I
- 4:26Speaker 4: came on. They make sure that their organizations is the
- 4:29Speaker 4: systems are in place to allow what they have to
- 4:33Speaker 4: be the best that they can be. I never felt like,
- 4:35Speaker 4: going from the Dodgers to the Brewers that one organization
- 4:39Speaker 4: was lacking, like, oh, we don't have this or we
- 4:42Speaker 4: don't have that.
- 4:43Speaker 3: But you hear these stories over and over.
- 4:45Speaker 4: And it's amazing that with thirty clubs and the amount
- 4:49Speaker 4: of money that's put into the payroll that some teams
- 4:52Speaker 4: have and some teams do not, I don't see that
- 4:55Speaker 4: so much with the Dodgers and the Brewers. Now, the
- 4:58Speaker 4: Dodgers do have a lot of great, shiny things, some
- 5:01Speaker 4: of which you can say, hey, we need some of it.
- 5:03Speaker 3: We don't necessarily need, but it's good to have. On
- 5:05Speaker 3: the flip.
- 5:06Speaker 4: When you go to the Brewers, I didn't feel like
- 5:08Speaker 4: there were things that, oh, man, we're missing these things.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Why don't we have these things? So from that standpoint,
- 5:14Speaker 4: I think they're both even. But I think you work
- 5:17Speaker 4: with what you have. Over there, they've been able to
- 5:19Speaker 4: develop from within. That's the Brewers. That is, they've been
- 5:22Speaker 4: able to get buy in from everybody to understand their
- 5:25Speaker 4: roles and know that there's gonna be some flexibility and
- 5:28Speaker 4: moving pieces around. Whereas the Dodgers say, Hey, we're gonna
- 5:31Speaker 4: roll out three MVPs to start this thing, and then
- 5:34Speaker 4: we're gonna get some cy Young's on the mound, and
- 5:36Speaker 4: then we're gonna throw some money into them. And not
- 5:38Speaker 4: only that, they're also gonna buy in the communication with
- 5:41Speaker 4: Dave Roberts to their team, I think is all There
- 5:44Speaker 4: so a lot of similarities, but the big glaring one
- 5:47Speaker 4: is the money and the superstars.
- 5:50Speaker 6: Have you. So there's a lot of managerial jobs open
- 5:53Speaker 6: right now. Have you ever thought about dabbling into being
- 5:56Speaker 6: a manager or is that just something that you're not
- 5:59Speaker 6: really interested?
- 6:01Speaker 4: You know, it's crazy, it's how you know, towards the
- 6:05Speaker 4: end of our careers. The one big thing that made
- 6:08Speaker 4: this a ninety nine point nine percent no for me
- 6:12Speaker 4: is I'm in Atlanta with the Mets, and I got
- 6:16Speaker 4: our manager Terry Collins, and Dick Scott, our bench coach,
- 6:19Speaker 4: and Ricky Bonus one of our bullpen coaches, and I'm
- 6:24Speaker 4: leaving the hotel to go get something to eat, and
- 6:26Speaker 4: it's about eleven thirty ish or something like that. So
- 6:30Speaker 4: I finally come back. It's about twelve fifteen. I just
- 6:33Speaker 4: went and grabbed something and came back and they're all
- 6:35Speaker 4: in the elevator. I think they're going to get something
- 6:38Speaker 4: to eat. They're going to the ballpark. So I get confused.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I'm like, isn't the game at seven o'clock tonight? They said, yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 4: but we got to get there early. We got to
- 6:46Speaker 4: do our reports. We're gonna get a workout in, we
- 6:49Speaker 4: got to meet with the GM. We gotta do all
- 6:51Speaker 4: this stuff. I said, you gotta do that before every game.
- 6:54Speaker 4: And you know we're not getting out there until the
- 6:56Speaker 4: game's gonna finish at ten o'clock. The bus is gonna
- 6:59Speaker 4: be at eleven o'clock. I said, So for twelve hours
- 7:01Speaker 4: a day from February fifteenth to call it October fifteenth,
- 7:06Speaker 4: this is your schedule.
- 7:07Speaker 3: They said, yep. I said, I'm not. That is too
- 7:10Speaker 3: much to be committing that much time. Now.
- 7:13Speaker 4: I do love being around the game and trying to
- 7:16Speaker 4: find ways to impact it and help and be there
- 7:20Speaker 4: to guide individuals on doing great things. But you know,
- 7:23Speaker 4: you look at right now, what do we have eight
- 7:25Speaker 4: managerial openings right now in Major League Baseball? I feel
- 7:28Speaker 4: like it's a very tough place to have success. You know,
- 7:32Speaker 4: you look at the Yankees right now, and everyone's calling
- 7:34Speaker 4: for Boone's head, And my question is, well, who you
- 7:36Speaker 4: want to replace them with? Who could come in there
- 7:38Speaker 4: and handle that media and handle that team and be
- 7:42Speaker 4: able to not only have the success from a winning
- 7:45Speaker 4: percentage standpoint, but do everything else you have and oh yeah,
- 7:48Speaker 4: deal with the media day in and day out.
- 7:50Speaker 3: There's only a handful of people that can do it.
- 7:52Speaker 4: And I think Aaron Boone's been doing an amazing job
- 7:55Speaker 4: with that team in that situation, with all those other distractions.
- 8:00Speaker 4: That's a job that, Yeah, it's a great one to have,
- 8:02Speaker 4: But I don't necessarily think you want to do it.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Aging like the president and Aging as the Yankees manager,
- 8:08Speaker 4: I think are up there hand in hand in terms
- 8:10Speaker 4: of stress.
- 8:11Speaker 3: So that's the big reason why I'm looking at it going.
- 8:14Speaker 4: You know what, if I can impact the game in
- 8:16Speaker 4: a number of other ways without having to be in
- 8:18Speaker 4: the dugout and be a manager, I'm gonna try to
- 8:20Speaker 4: lean towards that.
- 8:24Speaker 5: This is for everyone listening right now. What are you
- 8:26Speaker 5: wearing right now? And why isn't it me on Deese Kratz.
- 8:31Speaker 5: It is time for everyone to upgrade and get that
- 8:33Speaker 5: super Soft micro Modal glory so good that you don't
- 8:39Speaker 5: want to take it off.
- 8:41Speaker 2: The reason I'm stone facing you is because that's how
- 8:44Speaker 2: soft they are. It's ridiculous, Like I don't even understand
- 8:48Speaker 2: what kind of material it is. It's got to be
- 8:50Speaker 2: something space age for.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Your butt signature super Soft micro Modal fabric, breathable, stretchy,
- 8:59Speaker 5: unbelieveably cozy, and now you can even get glow in
- 9:02Speaker 5: the Dark part of the Halloween line. Right now as
- 9:05Speaker 5: a listener of FT, you can get cozy and spooky
- 9:08Speaker 5: for less with deals up to fifty percent off at
- 9:10Speaker 5: me undies dot com slash foul enter promo code foul.
- 9:13Speaker 5: That's meundies dot com slash foul promo code foul for
- 9:18Speaker 5: up to fifty percent off me Undie's Comfort that's made
- 9:23Speaker 5: for fall.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Well, I'm gonna tell him I'm ana text Booneye right
- 9:26Speaker 2: now and tell him it looks like he's agent a
- 9:28Speaker 2: lot quote look like this agent just for men. Okay, Yeah,
- 9:34Speaker 2: I ain't got it. There ain't nothing for the just
- 9:36Speaker 2: for men to stick to up here, Grandy.
- 9:38Speaker 3: But hey, they got all the man pieces now you
- 9:40Speaker 3: can glue it up there they do, Grandy.
- 9:43Speaker 2: If you buy me a man piece, I will wear
- 9:45Speaker 2: that John and it will look I was so confident.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I'll be confident.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Let's do it. Just can't sweat in it though, That's
- 9:52Speaker 3: the only thing.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Okay, no chance, And I'm sweating. I sweat all the time.
- 9:55Speaker 2: You know what I sweat like. But my question to
- 9:58Speaker 2: you then about Matt on topic Albert pulhosts. You see
- 10:03Speaker 2: a superstar, think of all the Hall of Famers you've
- 10:05Speaker 2: played with, superstars jumping right in to be a manager.
- 10:10Speaker 2: What is the biggest hurdle? But also what's the biggest
- 10:13Speaker 2: strength that he would bring to that job?
- 10:16Speaker 4: You know, I was fortunate to get a chance to
- 10:18Speaker 4: work alongside Albert Pujols with our TBS broadcast last season,
- 10:23Speaker 4: and he came in and did an amazing job.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Talks the game like the best of him. Of course,
- 10:27Speaker 3: he's one of the best to ever do it.
- 10:29Speaker 4: But then his inside analysis of how the game processes
- 10:33Speaker 4: and how it works and things you see, and you
- 10:37Speaker 4: got that sense right there that how involved he wants
- 10:41Speaker 4: to stay with the game. He then goes and I
- 10:44Speaker 4: think he's managing in winter ball and wins a championship
- 10:47Speaker 4: in the Winter League. And for those of you watching
- 10:49Speaker 4: this that have never experienced Winter League baseball, you got
- 10:53Speaker 4: to add it to your bucket list if you are
- 10:55Speaker 4: a baseball fan. It's intense from game one and the
- 11:00Speaker 4: stress level might be as high as the Yankees. For example,
- 11:04Speaker 4: the team I played for, Lease, which is in the
- 11:06Speaker 4: capital of Santa Domingo. That team has made it to
- 11:09Speaker 4: the championships multiple years. In the time, their championship round
- 11:14Speaker 4: I think is nine game series, not seven.
- 11:16Speaker 3: So keep this in mind.
- 11:18Speaker 4: The manager recently of that team makes it to the
- 11:21Speaker 4: Winner Ball Championship, they lose the first two games and
- 11:25Speaker 4: they fire him.
- 11:26Speaker 3: He is out.
- 11:28Speaker 4: So this is the manager that gets his team to
- 11:30Speaker 4: the postseason, to the championship, but you lose those first
- 11:34Speaker 4: two games get up out of there. So that's the
- 11:37Speaker 4: stress level that is there. And I know Albert Pujols
- 11:39Speaker 4: has been there and has had some success there. So
- 11:42Speaker 4: from that standpoint, I got no question that he'll be
- 11:45Speaker 4: able to handle all the different things. And of course
- 11:47Speaker 4: he's played in World Series and one, so he'll be
- 11:49Speaker 4: able to do that. I think the biggest challenge for
- 11:52Speaker 4: any former recent player coming back to manage and or
- 11:57Speaker 4: coach is to be able to speak and understand the
- 12:01Speaker 4: language of not only the front office, but of the
- 12:04Speaker 4: current younger players. There's a difference in just how communication
- 12:09Speaker 4: has to happen, certain lingos, certain things that may have worked,
- 12:13Speaker 4: but how you deliver it. For example, I've heard a
- 12:16Speaker 4: lot of younger players talk now as one of the
- 12:19Speaker 4: biggest things they look at and you hear it in
- 12:21Speaker 4: the broadcast when they announce a home run, they give
- 12:24Speaker 4: you exit below, and they give you the launch angle,
- 12:26Speaker 4: and then of course tell you how far it went.
- 12:29Speaker 4: The generation where I've played, similar to you know, Pohos,
- 12:32Speaker 4: similar to you both there we were looking at distance
- 12:36Speaker 4: and did you get the home run? Like wow, that
- 12:38Speaker 4: had to be four hundred and fifty feet. Either you
- 12:40Speaker 4: got it or you didn't get it. On the flip,
- 12:43Speaker 4: these younger players looking at it saying well, if I
- 12:45Speaker 4: did the launch angle and I got the exit below,
- 12:48Speaker 4: that should have resulted in a home run.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Why did it? Why did it not?
- 12:53Speaker 4: And you have to be able to bridge the gap
- 12:55Speaker 4: of understanding why that conversation is happening.
- 12:58Speaker 3: We looked at it and said, it's Wendy.
- 13:00Speaker 4: You know, the sun just went down, the air got heavier,
- 13:02Speaker 4: you know, all those different things. They don't see it
- 13:04Speaker 4: that way, and you have to be able to understand it.
- 13:07Speaker 4: I can't come in there and say your way is wrong.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Don't think about it that way.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Back in my.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Day, this is how we did it, and you have
- 13:15Speaker 4: to do it like that. If you come in there
- 13:16Speaker 4: with that mindset, you are done. So I think having
- 13:20Speaker 4: the ability to adapt and know, Okay, this is what
- 13:23Speaker 4: is working for them. This is how you communicate with them.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Same thing with the front office. This is how they communicate.
- 13:30Speaker 4: And I also have to let them know how I
- 13:32Speaker 4: communicate and hopefully we can all work well together. And
- 13:36Speaker 4: I think that's going to be the biggest challenge for
- 13:38Speaker 4: any recent former player stepping into this. But I think Albert,
- 13:42Speaker 4: who else, is going to do a great job. People
- 13:44Speaker 4: love him, respect him, and he wants to work. He
- 13:47Speaker 4: wants to get better. He's always trying to find ways
- 13:49Speaker 4: to improve.
- 13:51Speaker 2: All right, Well, it's actually a Dominicans opening day today,
- 13:54Speaker 2: So I was an Aguiluco I played for the Aguilast.
- 13:57Speaker 2: You really say, you guys are like you're the little
- 14:00Speaker 2: brother of the arguments boss. But anyway, so I love
- 14:04Speaker 2: the Dominican I love winter ball, everything about it. I
- 14:07Speaker 2: think everybody should experience it. I completely agree with you.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Let's go to another younger player, Anthony Volpi. The season
- 14:14Speaker 2: that he had, it's obviously coming out in his shoulder surgery.
- 14:18Speaker 2: The season offensively that he had defensively, My argument was
- 14:22Speaker 2: I think he still should be the starting shortstop for
- 14:24Speaker 2: the Yankees moving forward. But Scott brought up a great
- 14:27Speaker 2: point that maybe he shouldn't have played down the stretch.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Maybe it should have been Cabairo, who's not a everyday
- 14:36Speaker 2: starting shortstop, but he would have been their best choice
- 14:39Speaker 2: out there at shortstop for the playoffs. What do you
- 14:42Speaker 2: think about that?
- 14:44Speaker 4: You know, again, we talked about Aaron Boone being the
- 14:46Speaker 4: manager of the Yankees and the challenges that brings.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Well.
- 14:49Speaker 4: That shortstop position, because of a man named Derek Jeter,
- 14:52Speaker 4: is one of the most historic positions in all of
- 14:55Speaker 4: the games. So he set the bar so high that
- 14:58Speaker 4: anyone else that comes in underneath, it's going to be
- 15:01Speaker 4: some big shoes to fill and especially when you're on
- 15:04Speaker 4: the big stage in the postseason.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Now, like you said, we just saw that he had
- 15:08Speaker 3: an injury.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Who knows how much that was affecting not only his fielding,
- 15:11Speaker 4: his throwing, his hitting, his mind, all those different things.
- 15:15Speaker 4: When you're playing with an injury, it's just something else
- 15:17Speaker 4: that you're thinking about in addition to trying to hit
- 15:20Speaker 4: the baseball, field the baseball and help your team out.
- 15:23Speaker 4: But the previous year got a chance to interview Aaron
- 15:26Speaker 4: Boone before one of their games, before a broadcast, and
- 15:29Speaker 4: he just kept ranting and raving about just defensively, how
- 15:33Speaker 4: solid Anthony Bolpi is. And he said that he's not
- 15:36Speaker 4: going to get a lot of attention because his throat
- 15:39Speaker 4: doesn't come out.
- 15:40Speaker 3: And light up the radar gun. But it's always there.
- 15:42Speaker 4: It's always a market, and he's able to make the
- 15:45Speaker 4: plays that you assume he's going to make. And I
- 15:48Speaker 4: think that's the biggest thing. As long as you make
- 15:50Speaker 4: the routine plays, that's what you want to have. All
- 15:53Speaker 4: the exceptional and superstar plays like those happen, but make
- 15:57Speaker 4: the routine ones. We don't want to give up extra out.
- 16:00Speaker 4: So I think from that standpoint, I think he looks
- 16:02Speaker 4: at the season and goes, hey, I need to improve.
- 16:05Speaker 4: I need to find areas where I can improve. I
- 16:07Speaker 4: did the same thing when I was with the Yankees
- 16:10Speaker 4: my first year in twenty ten. I went to Kevin
- 16:12Speaker 4: Long and said, I feel like I can be hitting better.
- 16:15Speaker 4: So we had to start making some adjustments. And it
- 16:17Speaker 4: started at the end of that season, throughout the whole offseason,
- 16:21Speaker 4: into the twenty eleven season and beyond. So you have
- 16:24Speaker 4: to look at yourself and say, is this the player
- 16:26Speaker 4: that I think I can be or can I be better?
- 16:29Speaker 3: And I think the team in an organization has to
- 16:31Speaker 3: look at that.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Then you go, okay, if they get better and he improves, boom,
- 16:35Speaker 4: this is your spot to lose. If not, we also
- 16:37Speaker 4: got to see what other options we have. You can't
- 16:39Speaker 4: just stay and keep going in the same spot hoping
- 16:42Speaker 4: that things are gonna change. But at the same time,
- 16:45Speaker 4: competition is always a good thing. Derek Jeter said it best.
- 16:49Speaker 4: He was always looking over his shoulders because someone was
- 16:52Speaker 4: trying to take his job, and that's what kept pushing
- 16:55Speaker 4: him forward to get better and better year after year
- 16:58Speaker 4: and made him the player that he is who knows
- 17:00Speaker 4: what the ceiling is gonna be for BOPI. But I
- 17:02Speaker 4: think as long as he continues to push himself, understands
- 17:05Speaker 4: the things he needs to work on, and the organization
- 17:08Speaker 4: continues to push behind.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Him, I think that could be an option for him.
- 17:11Speaker 4: If not, then hey, you got to turn the page
- 17:13Speaker 4: and everybody moves on. There's twenty nine other ball clubs
- 17:15Speaker 4: that you can play with. I got drafted with Detroit
- 17:18Speaker 4: and played for six other groups, and you both all
- 17:21Speaker 4: there have played with some other teams too.
- 17:22Speaker 3: You want to be in the big leagues.
- 17:24Speaker 4: You don't care who it's with, but you have to
- 17:26Speaker 4: do everything you can to allow yourself to be in
- 17:28Speaker 4: the big leagues and be as good of a player
- 17:30Speaker 4: as you can be.
- 17:32Speaker 6: Well said, Well said, I couldn't. No, I don't think
- 17:35Speaker 6: anybody here could have said it better ourselves. But yeah,
- 17:38Speaker 6: for for sure, he needs, you know, he just needs
- 17:40Speaker 6: maybe a little kick in the rear round, you know,
- 17:42Speaker 6: something to get him going. He's a Jersey guy, so
- 17:45Speaker 6: he's got it in his blood, so hopefully he can
- 17:46Speaker 6: figure it out. My question, I'm gonna go back to
- 17:50Speaker 6: the playoffs here. Both teams down too. Well, do you
- 17:53Speaker 6: see any of these teams coming back and finding a way,
- 17:56Speaker 6: you know, to make this a series so we can
- 17:58Speaker 6: watch a little more baseball before the World Cheries starts.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Well, we definitely want to get some more games in.
- 18:03Speaker 4: I mean, this is our time of the year, it's October.
- 18:05Speaker 4: We want those games. But here's one thing that I
- 18:10Speaker 4: hope didn't happen, and it may be starting to show itself.
- 18:15Speaker 4: You have the Blue Jays knock off the Yankees, Like
- 18:18Speaker 4: we were just talking about, just iconic organization.
- 18:21Speaker 3: This is an amazing moment. People wrote them off.
- 18:24Speaker 4: You know, are they gonna get caught by the Yankees
- 18:27Speaker 4: in the regular season. I even thought the Yankees might
- 18:29Speaker 4: catch them, with you know, Bashett going down towards the
- 18:32Speaker 4: end of the stretch, that they might pass them. Well,
- 18:34Speaker 4: not only did they not pass them, then they come
- 18:36Speaker 4: and bring it to the Yankees and out score them out,
- 18:39Speaker 4: hit them out, pitch them out, do everything to them.
- 18:42Speaker 3: They're amped up, they're excited. Was that their World Series?
- 18:47Speaker 3: I hope not.
- 18:48Speaker 4: On the flip this Brewers and Dodgers series, you got
- 18:52Speaker 4: the big brother Little brother conversation. You got Wrigleyville North
- 18:56Speaker 4: up in Milwaukee. It's Milwaukee. It's not the Cubs. Not
- 19:00Speaker 4: gonna beat us in Boom. Not only do we take
- 19:02Speaker 4: it to them, but we beat the Cubs and then
- 19:04Speaker 4: we hang up the l flag in our team picture.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Was that their World Series And I'm hoping for both
- 19:11Speaker 4: of their situations they didn't peak too soon thinking that
- 19:15Speaker 4: was the big moment, and that could be why both
- 19:17Speaker 4: of these teams are down now two. The good thing
- 19:20Speaker 4: is it's not over. You have to reset. There was
- 19:23Speaker 4: an off day yesterday in the American League. There's an
- 19:26Speaker 4: off day today in the National League. Can they come
- 19:29Speaker 4: back and do what just happened to them, go to
- 19:32Speaker 4: their ballpark and take it from them, because that's what
- 19:35Speaker 4: those two teams just did. They just came in your
- 19:38Speaker 4: house and beat you up. Now you gotta go back
- 19:42Speaker 4: and get your stuff back. They got all your stuff.
- 19:44Speaker 4: You gotta go get it back.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Now.
- 19:46Speaker 3: It's gonna be a challenge, though.
- 19:47Speaker 4: I think one of the best situations though, is the
- 19:50Speaker 4: Toronto Seattle Series. I got a chance to play for
- 19:54Speaker 4: the Blue Jays in twenty eighteen before getting traded to
- 19:57Speaker 4: the Brewers, and when we played in Seattle, so I
- 20:00Speaker 4: did not realize how many Blue Jays.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Fans there were in that area and I was.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Told it's the one time of the year where the
- 20:08Speaker 4: Western Canadians can come down and see their team and support.
- 20:12Speaker 4: And not only did they come down and support, they
- 20:15Speaker 4: took over the city, they took over the stadium. They
- 20:18Speaker 4: had four people running on the field throughout the game.
- 20:20Speaker 4: I'm not encouraging that, but that's how crazy and they
- 20:23Speaker 4: say these fans were, And I think if they can
- 20:26Speaker 4: bring that energy and the Blue Jays can match that energy,
- 20:30Speaker 4: we can see them pick up a game, possibly even
- 20:33Speaker 4: this series, sooner than you could see with the Brewers
- 20:36Speaker 4: going to the Dodgers and trying to do the same thing.
- 20:39Speaker 4: They're not gonna have a bunch of Brewer fans out
- 20:42Speaker 4: there at Dodger Stadium. Their fans aren't just in massive
- 20:45Speaker 4: growths from Wisconsin coming out to LA to takeover Dodger Stadium.
- 20:50Speaker 4: That is not going to happen. However, sometimes getting out
- 20:54Speaker 4: of your element, getting into a space, having your back
- 20:57Speaker 4: against the wall and everybody's saying it's over, could be
- 21:01Speaker 4: exactly what you need. And I think Pat Murphy's gonna
- 21:03Speaker 4: get those boys excited and give them the best chance
- 21:05Speaker 4: possible to go out there and try to get Game
- 21:07Speaker 4: three which I think is more important for the Brewers
- 21:11Speaker 4: than it is for the Blue Jays.

- 22:18Speaker 2: All right? I got one last one here for you.
- 22:20Speaker 2: You had mentioned k Long you making an adjustment, you
- 22:23Speaker 2: wanted to be a better Big league hitter. Is he
- 22:26Speaker 2: still the guy for the job? In Philly because I've
- 22:29Speaker 2: always said I think he's one of the best, if
- 22:31Speaker 2: not the best hitting coaches in the big leagues at
- 22:33Speaker 2: helping guys make adjustments. But this is a lineup who
- 22:36Speaker 2: is a veteran crew that hasn't made the adjustment in
- 22:39Speaker 2: the last two and a half postseasons combined.
- 22:44Speaker 4: You know what, I think, Kevin Long is the most
- 22:46Speaker 4: confident and optimistic hitting coach I've ever had. He makes
- 22:50Speaker 4: you feel like you can hit against anybody, no matter
- 22:53Speaker 4: what the situation is going.
- 22:55Speaker 3: At the same time, these players have to.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Continue to have that confidence in themselves and believe it
- 23:01Speaker 4: for them When you get to the postseason, you know,
- 23:04Speaker 4: there's been all these stories about, like you mentioned, can
- 23:06Speaker 4: that offense show up, what's gonna happen with the bullpen?
- 23:09Speaker 4: And then you start thinking, all right, are we starting
- 23:11Speaker 4: to read into that a little bit more? Is it
- 23:14Speaker 4: happening again? This is what we saw happen last time. Okay,
- 23:17Speaker 4: we got to stop this before it gets going. And
- 23:20Speaker 4: all those different things make it very difficult to hit.
- 23:24Speaker 4: When you get back to the basics and just try
- 23:26Speaker 4: to simplify it and focus on one pitch won it
- 23:29Speaker 4: bad one game at a time. That's where things get easy,
- 23:32Speaker 4: and Kevin Long has done a great job of doing
- 23:35Speaker 4: that for as long as I can remember, just thinking, Hey,
- 23:38Speaker 4: the big things. I would always ask him before every game,
- 23:41Speaker 4: does this picture throw strikes?
- 23:44Speaker 3: Is he in the zone? And what pitches does he have?
- 23:46Speaker 4: Like those are the main things, Like we don't even
- 23:48Speaker 4: think too complicated, and sometimes when you're struggling, you add
- 23:52Speaker 4: a lot more to it and it starts to become
- 23:54Speaker 4: even more over complicated. Okay, in this pitch in this
- 23:57Speaker 4: county's gonna throw with this much spin on this part
- 23:59Speaker 4: of the and if I get this swing down, I
- 24:01Speaker 4: can do this and I got to hit it to
- 24:02Speaker 4: this side of the field.
- 24:04Speaker 3: That's tough when you're facing all these pitchers.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Now I'm not saying that's what the Phillies lineup is doing,
- 24:10Speaker 4: but when you start to scuffle and you start to struggle,
- 24:13Speaker 4: a lot more things start to enter your mind. But
- 24:15Speaker 4: I do think Kevin Long is the one of the
- 24:17Speaker 4: best out there to do it. I think he's still
- 24:19Speaker 4: one of the best options for that job. I don't
- 24:21Speaker 4: think they need to switch anything from that because you
- 24:23Speaker 4: still had a regular season where this was one of
- 24:25Speaker 4: the most potent offenses in Major League Baseball, But when
- 24:29Speaker 4: you get to a three game series or a five
- 24:31Speaker 4: game series, bats can go cold, arms can go cold,
- 24:36Speaker 4: defense can start to leak in and make mistakes. It
- 24:38Speaker 4: never made at any point in time of the season.
- 24:41Speaker 4: So somehow you just got to find a way to
- 24:42Speaker 4: continue to peak and stay hot at the right time.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Even when we look at this Dodgers and Blue Jays series,
- 24:50Speaker 4: would you expect that show hal Tani is going to
- 24:53Speaker 4: be having the offense that he's having, And I wouldn't
- 24:55Speaker 4: necessarily put that on the hitting coach. I think there
- 24:57Speaker 4: could be something He's just, Hey, I want to get
- 24:59Speaker 4: the big hits.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I've been trying to do it. I've been doing it.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Let me continue to be this and then when it's
- 25:04Speaker 4: not going your way, and it's not going your way, okay,
- 25:07Speaker 4: now you start to search a little bit. But that
- 25:09Speaker 4: bottom side of the lineup six, seven, eight, nine has
- 25:12Speaker 4: been coming through left and right, left and right, and
- 25:15Speaker 4: all it takes is one swing, one swing of the bat.
- 25:18Speaker 4: And we thought we had it with the Phillies at
- 25:21Speaker 4: Dodger Stadium when they got to Yamamoto, but then they
- 25:24Speaker 4: got neutralized again. So credit where credit is due with
- 25:27Speaker 4: that Dodger pitching staff pitching as well as they did.
- 25:30Speaker 3: But all in all, I think Kevin Long is still
- 25:32Speaker 3: the man for the job.
- 25:34Speaker 4: He is always going to be in the casion, always
- 25:38Speaker 4: getting them amped up, and I think he gives them
- 25:40Speaker 4: the best shot as of today with the line of
- 25:42Speaker 4: the way it's constructed with the Phillies granted.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Great insight man. We loved having you on here.
- 25:48Speaker 5: We love and watching your insight analysis on TBS. Keep
- 25:52Speaker 5: it up, enjoy the finish line here, and we'll get
- 25:55Speaker 5: you on again down the road.
- 25:56Speaker 3: All right, hey, thank you and you all keep doing
- 25:59Speaker 3: an amazing job.
- 25:59Speaker 4: Big fans of it. Thank you for having me on crazy.
- 26:02Speaker 4: I know you and I have been trying our best
- 26:03Speaker 4: to schedule this. We finally made it work.
- 26:06Speaker 1: It was.
- 26:06Speaker 3: It was better than I expected. So good to see you.
- 26:08Speaker 2: It was worth it.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Let's hope we get some seven games here.
- 26:12Speaker 5: Fingers cross, Yes, yes, fingers cross, it was well worth it.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Thanks Curtits great to see you.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Bob say here, y'all have a goin.
- 26:22Speaker 1: O corner.
- 26:22Speaker 5: Let's let's hit some news outside of the postseason, just
- 26:25Speaker 5: for a few minutes here. Since we learned a lot
- 26:28Speaker 5: about the Yankees in the past twenty four hours. Let's
- 26:30Speaker 5: start with Anthony Wolpee. He had a rough season, a
- 26:36Speaker 5: brutal Division series, but he did have surgery performed on
- 26:41Speaker 5: his left shoulder this week. What's today Wednesday? So on
- 26:45Speaker 5: Tuesday day ago, and I would say he might be
- 26:49Speaker 5: the I don't say most controversial, but most talked about player,
- 26:53Speaker 5: especially in this area over the past year, because he
- 26:56Speaker 5: was a super prospect and hasn't been a star okay
- 27:00Speaker 5: the first couple of years and had a really rough year.
- 27:03Speaker 5: Is the shoulder a legit excuse for why it was
- 27:06Speaker 5: mostly a disaster?
- 27:08Speaker 2: I would say yes.
- 27:09Speaker 6: I would say an injury like that your front shoulder,
- 27:11Speaker 6: how you swing, you saw like some of his swings
- 27:14Speaker 6: like he held it with two hands. Because when you
- 27:17Speaker 6: swing in one hand and all of a sudden you
- 27:18Speaker 6: let the extension go, that's gonna put pain and discomfort
- 27:22Speaker 6: to your to your arm and shoulder. I feel and
- 27:25Speaker 6: a lot of people might not agree, but I feel
- 27:27Speaker 6: like this is a reasonable excuse of why he struggled.
- 27:31Speaker 6: He's a great ballplayer, he's a good infielder, and never
- 27:34Speaker 6: struggles on both sides. When you have pain and you
- 27:37Speaker 6: can't go through with a lot of things. Guess what
- 27:39Speaker 6: it's gonna be on your mind. You're gonna favor one
- 27:41Speaker 6: side over the next. Yeah, he could add a bet
- 27:44Speaker 6: of your ear. But guess what, I praise him for this.
- 27:46Speaker 6: He played through it all and guess what, didn't say
- 27:49Speaker 6: anything bad. He kept going, didn't say, oh man, I'm
- 27:51Speaker 6: injured this and that. I give him praise and I
- 27:54Speaker 6: you know, I respect him a little bit more for
- 27:55Speaker 6: an understanding. The dude needs to get shoulder surgery. So
- 27:58Speaker 6: he played through that and thought through that. Yeah, maybe
- 28:01Speaker 6: there was a couple of days they could have gave him,
- 28:03Speaker 6: you know, a day or two off to help him
- 28:04Speaker 6: out with it all. But the way they were going,
- 28:07Speaker 6: they needed him. Then he did.
- 28:08Speaker 1: He struggled.
- 28:09Speaker 6: We're not saying he did, but with a shoulder problem
- 28:11Speaker 6: to end up getting surgery yesterday. Yeah, commendable.
- 28:15Speaker 5: I have two follow up questions for you. Number one,
- 28:19Speaker 5: his overall offensive production was almost identical to the.
- 28:22Speaker 1: First two years. Defense took a massive step back. I'm
- 28:25Speaker 1: with you.
- 28:25Speaker 5: You could see that, right. But offense ops plus one
- 28:29Speaker 5: hundreds league average year one eighty one, year two, eighty six,
- 28:32Speaker 5: year three, eighty three, right. I mean the batting average
- 28:35Speaker 5: was way down, but the slugging was up a little bit.
- 28:39Speaker 5: Many fans are looking at his offensive production being like
- 28:43Speaker 5: it was essentially the same. So should he be the
- 28:48Speaker 5: guy going forward? You give him a chance at a
- 28:50Speaker 5: short stop position for a team that is very demanding
- 28:54Speaker 5: of its players and of its success and is falling short.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:58Speaker 6: I want to go back to one little point and
- 29:00Speaker 6: then I'll get that an answer.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:01Speaker 6: I think the problem with this year his lows were
- 29:03Speaker 6: so low, and I think, you know, his highs weren't
- 29:07Speaker 6: is hot, you know what I'm saying. So he was
- 29:08Speaker 6: you know, for that stint he was like one for
- 29:10Speaker 6: thirty or forty. Oh, he had like eighteen strikeouts, whatever
- 29:14Speaker 6: the numbers were. The strikeouts were really high. Then he'd
- 29:16Speaker 6: do okay, and then boom he'd fall off again. I
- 29:18Speaker 6: think that's where the struggle came for all fans the Sea,
- 29:22Speaker 6: they're like, man, when this guy is struggling, it is.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Like bought rock bottom.
- 29:27Speaker 6: And I think that's that's the problem. I think they
- 29:29Speaker 6: give another shot.
- 29:31Speaker 3: I do.
- 29:31Speaker 6: I think they do.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Now.
- 29:32Speaker 6: I'm not saying they can't go out and shop somebody else.
- 29:34Speaker 6: To put a little pressure on or you know, have
- 29:37Speaker 6: one of the younger guys come up. I just don't
- 29:39Speaker 6: see it right now. I feel like they'd have to
- 29:41Speaker 6: go out and get somebody. But yes, he deserves to
- 29:44Speaker 6: get another shot there at shortstop. He's young, he's quick,
- 29:47Speaker 6: he's fast, He's shown a lot of potential. But New
- 29:49Speaker 6: York's a different ballgame. What have you done for me lately? Attitude?
- 29:53Speaker 2: That's New York.
- 29:55Speaker 5: Sorry, Yeah, you got to be an above average performer
- 29:58Speaker 5: at the position for first division team when you're the shortstop.
- 30:01Speaker 5: I mean, I guess you don't have to, but they
- 30:03Speaker 5: would prefer that.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Can I give you a comp? Can I give you
- 30:07Speaker 2: a shortstop comp? Who would lend to me saying I
- 30:11Speaker 2: want Volpi to get another year? You guys ever heard
- 30:14Speaker 2: of Dansby Swanson? Go look up his first three years. Yeah,
- 30:18Speaker 2: his first cup of coffee in the big leagues, he
- 30:21Speaker 2: did well. You had a like a ops plus of
- 30:23Speaker 2: like one p fifteen and like one hundred and summ
- 30:25Speaker 2: at bat. So he was hot for a little bit.
- 30:27Speaker 2: His next three years. We're all actually under collectively what
- 30:34Speaker 2: Anthony Volpi's done. So if he did the exact same
- 30:37Speaker 2: offensive production based on OPS plus, which is a good standard.
- 30:42Speaker 2: While he was hurt, maybe there is a little bit
- 30:45Speaker 2: of maybe there is a little progression, Maybe there is
- 30:48Speaker 2: a a you know, he's starting to learn a little
- 30:51Speaker 2: bit more and is he maybe would have had a
- 30:52Speaker 2: better year had his shoulder not been bothering. But I
- 30:56Speaker 2: know for a fact, because I talk to people that
- 30:58Speaker 2: are involved with this much to that shoulder, even though
- 31:01Speaker 2: it was his left shoulder bug his defense. Think about
- 31:07Speaker 2: third base, you don't have as much lateral movement. It
- 31:12Speaker 2: was really bugging him when he would go laterally we
- 31:14Speaker 2: go to his glove side, that extra extension glove slide
- 31:18Speaker 2: glove side was tough for him. Anytime that he had
- 31:21Speaker 2: to make a quick turn spin that front side was
- 31:25Speaker 2: really bothering him. And I guess, you know, people don't
- 31:27Speaker 2: really understand that. You know, it's like, oh, well, if
- 31:29Speaker 2: your right arm doesn't hurt you, why would your left
- 31:31Speaker 2: arm hurt defense. It hindered his mobility to be able
- 31:35Speaker 2: to get to the spot and then be able to
- 31:37Speaker 2: make the throw. So I know that for a fact
- 31:40Speaker 2: that it was bothering him. He'll never come out and
- 31:42Speaker 2: say it, but this was from somebody else telling me
- 31:45Speaker 2: that he said it was bothering him, and so to me,
- 31:49Speaker 2: I give him another shot. He does have a gold
- 31:51Speaker 2: glove in his bag if he struggles next year, or
- 31:54Speaker 2: maybe the offense doesn't tick up, because that's when dansby
- 31:57Speaker 2: Sponson's ticked up and he was technically a year old
- 32:00Speaker 2: in Volpe's a year behind him. I tend to give
- 32:04Speaker 2: him another shot. And maybe that's me as a player
- 32:06Speaker 2: saying all players can improve. I just see enough in
- 32:10Speaker 2: him that I would say, yes, I give him another chance.
- 32:14Speaker 5: Quick follow up if his shoulder was so messed up
- 32:17Speaker 5: this year, A lot of fans want to know why
- 32:19Speaker 5: he was playing, because he was more of a liability
- 32:22Speaker 5: than a productive human being. I would rather al Sueriro,
- 32:26Speaker 5: who's healthy, then Volpy with half a shoulder.
- 32:31Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know. I look at him. It's
- 32:35Speaker 6: hard guitar. I think I think was a better option.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Okay, it's just it's the same argument that we always
- 32:47Speaker 2: have with pictures. Why did they not keep the starting
- 32:50Speaker 2: pitcher in? Well, they felt like the other guy was better.
- 32:52Speaker 2: You're going to keep your starting pitcher in if you
- 32:54Speaker 2: don't have somebody else to bring in, you're going to
- 32:56Speaker 2: keep Anthony Vulpian if you feel like he is. To me,
- 33:00Speaker 2: Anthony Volpi is a big league shortstop, and that is
- 33:02Speaker 2: a statement that I make all the time on this show.
- 33:05Speaker 2: What does that look like, Well, it looks like there's
- 33:09Speaker 2: only really probably thirty five guys in the big leagues
- 33:12Speaker 2: that can truly play shortstop day in and day out.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Can Cabriiro play shortstop? Yes? Is he a big league shortstop?
- 33:22Speaker 2: Maybe more of a big league utility player, just saying
- 33:27Speaker 2: he can play shortstop in the big leagues, But I
- 33:30Speaker 2: don't know if he's necessarily a big lea shortstop. I
- 33:32Speaker 2: think Volpi is even a little compromised.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Okay, Yeah, for me, I would have gone Cabairo down
- 33:39Speaker 5: the stretch and not Cabairo as their starting shortstop long term,
- 33:43Speaker 5: but agreed to disagree.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Yankees coaching staff moves.
- 33:49Speaker 5: Longtime bullpen coach Mike Harpy gon first base infield coach
- 33:52Speaker 5: Travis Chapman, also not returning other roles being discussed. They
- 33:58Speaker 5: feel like they have to do something. This is just
- 34:00Speaker 5: the Yankees, as any team when they feel like they
- 34:02Speaker 5: came up short.
- 34:03Speaker 1: So they're like, uh, you your fault?
- 34:05Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, Harkey man, that's that's a tough one.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Arecraft.
- 34:09Speaker 6: You know him very well. He's been like he's been
- 34:12Speaker 6: there since they started. It seems like this whole thing,
- 34:17Speaker 6: great human being, he'll never forget you. He's always had
- 34:20Speaker 6: a smile on his face. And uh, yeah, I didn't
- 34:23Speaker 6: know Travis that well, but I'm sure he's a great guy.
- 34:25Speaker 6: But seeing Harkey go, that's a tough one. So hopefully,
- 34:28Speaker 6: hopefully it was mutual and we can go from there.
- 34:31Speaker 2: I mean, I know Chappie real well. He was he
- 34:34Speaker 2: was one of the infield coaches when I was in
- 34:36Speaker 2: Triple A with the Yankees. There was a relentless worker.
- 34:40Speaker 2: He's ready to go. And Harkey, geez, that one, that
- 34:44Speaker 2: one I'm surprised about. I hope they because I thought
- 34:47Speaker 2: he did a good job of complimenting Boonie's decisions, and
- 34:50Speaker 2: Boonie definitely he would he would ask him, He would
- 34:54Speaker 2: ask him a lot, and he had a good, good
- 34:56Speaker 2: rapport with the guys in the bullpen. I hope they
- 34:57Speaker 2: get somebody with experience to not somebody that says, geez,
- 35:03Speaker 2: I wonder what the ipan says.
- 35:07Speaker 5: We'll talk about the manager interviews because they're happening left
- 35:09Speaker 5: and right, since half the league has an opening.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Just kidding, it's only about a third.
- 35:13Speaker 5: Andy Martinez reports the Orioles have interviewed Yankees third base
- 35:17Speaker 5: coach and former Mets manager Luis Rojas for their opening.
- 35:20Speaker 5: If he does not get a managerial job, the Yankees
- 35:23Speaker 5: will want him back.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Highly valued coach.
- 35:26Speaker 6: He's one of my managers coming up with the Mets.
- 35:29Speaker 6: The guy is just solid, dude. And first off, he's
- 35:32Speaker 6: solid up here, and he's he's solid. He's brawn, you know,
- 35:35Speaker 6: like he's he's an absolute stud of a guy. You know,
- 35:37Speaker 6: he used to manage over in I forget that Venezuela
- 35:42Speaker 6: or a Dominican, I forget where.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Wherever he's from because he didn't have experience managing for that.
- 35:48Speaker 1: But he took you over the Mets.
- 35:49Speaker 6: No, no, no, but he did. He did the winner
- 35:51Speaker 6: Leagues over there. But dr thank you Cratzy. He knows
- 35:56Speaker 6: his stuff. He's an incredible guy. He's a great manager
- 35:59Speaker 6: for guys, for players. He's soft spoken. He's not going
- 36:03Speaker 6: to be that hoorah guy. That guy's going to be
- 36:05Speaker 6: talking a lot. He's straight to the point. But he
- 36:08Speaker 6: also wants the best out of people too as well.
- 36:10Speaker 6: I could see him definitely filling that job and doing
- 36:13Speaker 6: a really good job at it too.
- 36:14Speaker 1: He's only forty four. Kratz.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Yeah, he's definitely a guy who We had Joe Madden
- 36:19Speaker 2: on yesterday talking about maybe you got to hit all
- 36:22Speaker 2: your stops, maybe you got to you know, have a
- 36:24Speaker 2: different He's bilingual, he has the respect of players, and
- 36:29Speaker 2: clearly the Yankees still like him because they started getting
- 36:32Speaker 2: rid of some coaches and they're like, if you don't
- 36:34Speaker 2: get the job, we want you back. And I think
- 36:36Speaker 2: it's important to have guys that can do different things
- 36:39Speaker 2: on your staff. I think he'd be a great manager
- 36:41Speaker 2: for the O's
