- 0:00Speaker 1: I don't get hit with, like, patriotism that often. It's like,
- 0:04Speaker 1: during the World Cup, yeah, and, like, when other countries
- 0:08Speaker 1: talk a little too much shit, I'm like, all right, chill,
- 0:10Speaker 1: that's my thing. But when the paint came off, I
- 0:13Speaker 1: was like, this is the most.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Hood shit in the world. Can I tell you right now,
- 0:19Speaker 2: the paint coming off doesn't happen in a regular pool.
- 0:22Speaker 1: No, I didn't know that was possible.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I also didn't know that was possible. Not just paint
- 0:26Speaker 2: coming off as in dissolving. Once huge chunks of paint
- 0:30Speaker 2: were coming off that you could hold in your hand,
- 0:32Speaker 2: I was like, oh, we're not a country anymore.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Precap, the daily show podcast
- 0:40Speaker 1: where we sit down with this week's host to recap
- 0:43Speaker 1: some of the latest news and preview what's coming up next.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I'm Randall Otis. I'm one of the writers of the show,
- 0:48Speaker 1: and I am joined today by your host this week,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Josh Johnson.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Hey, man.
- 0:53Speaker 1: What's going on, buddy?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Not too much.
- 0:54Speaker 1: How about you? I'm good. Had a good Juneteenth.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:58Speaker 1: A lot of plans, barbecue, DJ set, drank too much
- 1:02Speaker 1: of the barbecue and went home. Did you DJ? Oh,
- 1:05Speaker 1: hell no. Okay. No, no, no.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Well, you said DJ set.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It's Juneteenth. I'm not here to perform or do labor.
- 1:11Speaker 1: This is my day to enjoy the fruits of other
- 1:14Speaker 1: people's labor. Mm-hmm. If you're working on Juneteenth as a
- 1:18Speaker 1: black person, a take where you try to be like down,
- 1:22Speaker 1: but it's just the most elitist thing. Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You try to.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28Speaker 2: If if through the conditions of living in the United
- 1:30Speaker 2: States of America, you also happen to have to work
- 1:33Speaker 2: on Juneteenth, then you should take a real good long
- 1:35Speaker 2: hard look at yourself.
- 1:36Speaker 1: If you somehow haven't overcome.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You shouldn't enjoy Juneteenth. Now, did you do anything?
- 1:43Speaker 2: I did work, yeah.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I did shows, yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I was entertaining.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Tap dancing for the white man on Q & T.
- 1:51Speaker 2: No, so it was a good couple shows. Had a
- 1:55Speaker 2: good weekend. And then I've been looking forward to this.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Are you hyped for this week? You got a lot
- 1:59Speaker 1: of stuff that's going on.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I mean, that's every week. Sometimes you have too many
- 2:05Speaker 2: things that are happening. And especially when you pick one,
- 2:09Speaker 2: it becomes hard. Because then you pick the one that you're,
- 2:12Speaker 2: attached to that you're like, oh, we'll talk about this tomorrow,
- 2:14Speaker 2: and then something will happen overnight.
- 2:16Speaker 1: The thing right now people are talking about is the
- 2:18Speaker 1: reflecting pool, which I love. You've been to D.C.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I've been to D.C., and I will also be talking
- 2:25Speaker 2: about the reflecting pool for two weeks at least, like
- 2:28Speaker 2: in group chats, in updates, because the updates are worse
- 2:32Speaker 2: than the story.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Because with me, with the reflecting pool, like when it
- 2:37Speaker 1: first started, I honestly was like, you know, look, It's
- 2:42Speaker 1: a pool. I've dealt with, you know, pools and having
- 2:46Speaker 1: to upkeep stuff before. And yeah, sometimes you get algae, right? Now, though,
- 2:51Speaker 1: I was like, oh, dog, this is, you singularly messed
- 2:56Speaker 1: this up. It should not be this bad.
- 2:58Speaker 2: You insert yourself in a way that only messed it
- 3:00Speaker 2: up so much because no one remembers what it looked
- 3:02Speaker 2: like before you wanted to fix it.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 2: We just remember what it looks like today.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I have never thought about this thing.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I will also tell you right now that Trump is
- 3:10Speaker 2: not a problem solver. Because this man is over here. Oh, no,
- 3:15Speaker 2: the reflecting pool. Antifa did whatever. There's algae blooming in
- 3:21Speaker 2: the pool and you got the number one algae eater
- 3:24Speaker 2: in your cabinet. Get over there. That man that man
- 3:27Speaker 2: would take one look at the reflective pool and be
- 3:29Speaker 2: like soup.
- 3:31Speaker 1: He eats it all and somehow it fixes his voice.
- 3:34Speaker 1: He's like, that was it. That was it. Wow. Whoa.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Turns out something just had to grab the thing in
- 3:40Speaker 2: my throat.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Turns out I'm British, actually. Yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Because even when they were pouring the peroxide in there,
- 3:49Speaker 2: I was like, oh, y'all, I don't know if that's good.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Like now I'd be scared to walk past.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yeah, because now I'm like, I don't know what chemicals.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You're going to make mustard gas on accident and just
- 4:01Speaker 1: kill everybody.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And you heard about the duckling.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Oh, I saw that. Honestly, that was like the moment
- 4:09Speaker 1: where I was like, oh, this is bad. I don't
- 4:10Speaker 1: think you should be dying in the reflecting pool.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I'll tell you right now, too, that duckling is going
- 4:18Speaker 2: to somehow do so much more damage than anything else
- 4:21Speaker 2: this week. Like like us being on the knife's edge
- 4:25Speaker 2: of global disaster, not just us. I know that as
- 4:29Speaker 2: the U.S., we think that we're the only country that's
- 4:31Speaker 2: ever existed. But like like the world is having gas
- 4:35Speaker 2: problems right now, oil problems right now off of this conflict.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And I I'm telling you right now, that single duckling
- 4:42Speaker 2: is going to move the needle more than the global
- 4:47Speaker 2: crisis that's that's incoming.
- 4:49Speaker 1: But like the paint coming off the bottom is nasty
- 4:52Speaker 1: as hell. The paint coming off the bottom. That's what
- 4:55Speaker 1: made me feel like, because I don't get hit with
- 4:57Speaker 1: like patriotism that often. It's like during the World Cup. Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And like when other countries talk a little too much shit,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'm like, chill, that's my thing. But when the paint
- 5:09Speaker 1: came off, I was like, this is the most.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Hood shit in the world. Can I tell you right now?
- 5:16Speaker 2: The paint coming off doesn't happen in a regular pool.
- 5:19Speaker 1: No, I didn't know that was possible.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I absolutely didn't know that was possible. The paint coming
- 5:24Speaker 2: off is the most ratchet. Not just paint coming off
- 5:31Speaker 2: as in dissolving. Once huge chunks of paint were coming
- 5:35Speaker 2: off that you could hold in your hand, I was like, oh,
- 5:38Speaker 2: we're not a country anymore.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Even like MAGA people who were looking at the pool,
- 5:44Speaker 1: they're like, Even they were like, I can't.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I can't.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I can't even.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Oh, I can't abide this.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Oh, this looks bad. Yeah. Oh, right after we had, yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 1: the MMA fight. I'm saying, dude, we're about, we're like
- 6:03Speaker 1: about to have like flamingos and Chevy's on center blocks.
- 6:07Speaker 2: There's going to be, it's, we're starting to act like, like,
- 6:11Speaker 2: like Trump's remodeling of DC does look, post-apocalyptic.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I was about to say, it's going to be like,
- 6:17Speaker 1: I am legend. Will Smith is going to be driving
- 6:20Speaker 1: around talking to mannequins.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Imagine if I am legend had a busy street and
- 6:25Speaker 2: that's what DC will look like with more Trump ears.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Like it'll just be a dude with his dog. He
- 6:30Speaker 2: doesn't need to talk to mannequins because there's so many
- 6:33Speaker 2: people standing around that don't have a job because all
- 6:35Speaker 2: the jobs have been given to AI. We tried to
- 6:37Speaker 2: sue We tried to sue, but remember, also the Big
- 6:40Speaker 2: Beautiful Bill is a clause about suing companies and slowing
- 6:43Speaker 2: down the U.S. 's progress in the AI field.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You know what? Also, because the only times I see
- 6:51Speaker 1: the reflecting pool, somebody who doesn't live in D.C., is
- 6:53Speaker 1: in photos, because there'll be all those historic events near
- 6:57Speaker 1: the pool, like MLK's big speech. I was just imagining
- 7:01Speaker 1: MLK being like, I have a... Oh, no... I'm just
- 7:06Speaker 1: getting distracted by how gross it is. Dude, because here's
- 7:10Speaker 1: the thing.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Like, some ponds, some lakes, rivers, green. Like, it does have... Like,
- 7:17Speaker 2: algae is naturally occurring.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 2: But... When you promised blue and it's green, it somehow
- 7:27Speaker 2: makes it look more green. It's actually 10 times greener
- 7:31Speaker 2: than it probably is. In our minds, it's 10 times
- 7:34Speaker 2: greener than it actually is because we know it's supposed
- 7:36Speaker 2: to be blue. Or at the very best, super clear
- 7:42Speaker 2: with a blue bottle.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Now, if the water was blue, let's say for a
- 7:46Speaker 2: second that they had put blue food coloring in the
- 7:50Speaker 2: reflective pool. We'd still be like, wow, the water's so
- 7:53Speaker 2: clear since the bottom.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I think they're going to try. Actually, they may try that.
- 7:58Speaker 1: But then, I don't know what. I'm not good at
- 8:00Speaker 1: color theory. What does green and blue make? It's going
- 8:02Speaker 1: to be like purple or something?
- 8:04Speaker 2: I mean, I know red and blue make purple. I
- 8:06Speaker 2: feel like it's going to make like a sort of
- 8:07Speaker 2: like cyan purple.
- 8:09Speaker 1: This is just an aside. I do feel incredibly insecure
- 8:13Speaker 1: not knowing what colors mix to make what color. I
- 8:16Speaker 1: feel like somehow like everyone else... got that in preschool
- 8:19Speaker 1: or whatever, but my schools didn't because I'm from Florida.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 1: So like, they'll be like, this is a very rare thing,
- 8:25Speaker 1: but times in my life and be like, Oh, you
- 8:26Speaker 1: know what this, this color makes. And I'm just like,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I feel so embarrassed.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Red and blue. You know what that means? I, it literally, it.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Makes me feel like I'm the guy who has to go.
- 8:38Speaker 1: It's to your left. That's how I feel with color.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I don't, it's just a side note of my insecurity.
- 8:46Speaker 2: No, I feel that way with directions. Like, I feel
- 8:51Speaker 2: really insecure when people ask for directions and I can't
- 8:53Speaker 2: tell them if it's north or east or whatever. Like,
- 8:56Speaker 2: I know that way. I know it's that way. Like,
- 9:00Speaker 2: you go that way and then you take a left
- 9:01Speaker 2: and then you whatever. But north, south, east, and west
- 9:05Speaker 2: is like the basis of maps.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I think in New York you should be able to
- 9:10Speaker 1: do it because it's very simple. I'm just like Freedom
- 9:14Speaker 1: Towers to the south. Okay. And then that's how you orient. Also,
- 9:19Speaker 1: it goes up that way, down that way.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I know that when you're on Manhattan and
- 9:31Speaker 2: you're pointing towards something, you could just say north. But
- 9:34Speaker 2: the rest of the world, I have no frame of
- 9:37Speaker 2: reference for where any of that is.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I can do it as long as it's not noon,
- 9:43Speaker 1: because I'm like, okay, sun sets in the east, or
- 9:45Speaker 1: rising in the east sets in the west. But if
- 9:47Speaker 1: it's new and I'm like, shit, I have no idea.
- 9:49Speaker 1: This is where I have respect for, I feel like
- 9:52Speaker 1: if you brought a caveman back to these times and
- 9:54Speaker 1: he had this conversation, they'd.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Be like, oh, they got, dumber well no I think
- 9:59Speaker 2: the difference is if you brought that person back we
- 10:04Speaker 2: wouldn't know how to do common things for them which
- 10:08Speaker 2: would make us look very dumb and then they would
- 10:11Speaker 2: burn all of us for being witches.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yeah they'd be really strong we wouldn't be able to stop.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Them yeah they walk and eat well every day They're
- 10:20Speaker 2: from before we called it organic.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, they're all just like CrossFit people too. Because all
- 10:24Speaker 1: the weak ones are dead.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 1: So you meet anyone 18 and above, they're going to
- 10:28Speaker 1: rip your spine out of your torso. Just for no reason.
- 10:34Speaker 2: But yeah, I think that I've had this insecurity too
- 10:38Speaker 2: where I'm like, oh man, if I could meet someone
- 10:41Speaker 2: in my ancestry who was like a forager, they'd be
- 10:44Speaker 2: so disappointed that I didn't know how to take care
- 10:48Speaker 2: of myself in like a from the earth sort of
- 10:51Speaker 2: way but then also i would show them an iphone
- 10:55Speaker 2: and they'd be like the glass.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Does that yeah do they even know what glass is
- 11:00Speaker 1: they might only see it if it got like oh
- 11:02Speaker 1: like a lightning hit the.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Beach yeah yeah if lightning hit the beach and made
- 11:05Speaker 2: a design but even then you probably like ended up
- 11:10Speaker 2: keeping that thing as a keepsake from like the time
- 11:13Speaker 2: that god waved at you oh yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I think you could like take over the village it
- 11:16Speaker 1: was like I've been blessed by the, by the Lord.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Speaking of blessings, this is not a transition. It has
- 11:22Speaker 1: nothing to do with the Iran war, but I've been
- 11:25Speaker 1: thinking about this. We were talking about this upstairs, but
- 11:28Speaker 1: like we're at the, it's similar to the reflecting pool
- 11:33Speaker 1: in the sense of like in the early days of
- 11:36Speaker 1: the Iran war. I'm like, this is stupid. This is ridiculous,
- 11:40Speaker 1: but there's an easy way out of this. You know,
- 11:43Speaker 1: now I'm legitimately like, I'm, scared existentially of what is
- 11:51Speaker 1: going to happen yeah it it was you know what
- 11:55Speaker 1: did it for me was seeing jd vance in switzerland
- 12:02Speaker 1: because i'm like the entire global economy rest of this
- 12:08Speaker 1: guy this yeah gormless husk of a man who clearly
- 12:14Speaker 1: cannot talk to people is just awkward as hell. He's
- 12:17Speaker 1: the guy who, I still remember the campaign video of
- 12:20Speaker 1: him going to that Dunkin' Donuts and just skeeving everybody out.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, just being like, y'all glaze him here. It's like,
- 12:32Speaker 2: every interaction this man has is so uncomfortable. He's like, well,
- 12:37Speaker 2: do you remember when he gave that speech and he
- 12:39Speaker 2: was talking about This is how badly he's wired. He
- 12:45Speaker 2: was giving a speech, and he was talking about talking
- 12:48Speaker 2: to the troops beforehand and telling them a joke. And
- 12:54Speaker 2: then they were like, oh, the crowd can't handle that.
- 12:57Speaker 2: That's too politically incorrect of a joke. But then he
- 13:01Speaker 2: never says what the joke is. He just tells a
- 13:04Speaker 2: story about telling the joke, and then the soldiers apparently,
- 13:07Speaker 2: the soldiers who definitely existed, said to him, sir, don't
- 13:11Speaker 2: tell that one.
- 13:12Speaker 1: You crazy for this one, Jay.
- 13:14Speaker 2: But it would be like if you said you crazy
- 13:16Speaker 2: for this one, Jay, and then the song was over.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah. You know what it is. Next track. Yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 2: And then also the way that on camera he's been
- 13:26Speaker 2: so awkward. He reminds me of Jim from The Office
- 13:30Speaker 2: if there was no camera to look at. Yeah. Like
- 13:33Speaker 2: take all those moments where Jim looked at the camera
- 13:36Speaker 2: in The Office and and make it a real world,
- 13:39Speaker 2: no documentary. It's like.
- 13:42Speaker 1: What are you looking at?
- 13:43Speaker 2: Yeah, what are you looking at? And why are you...
- 13:46Speaker 2: We can see you. So what are you doing with
- 13:48Speaker 2: your face right now?
- 13:49Speaker 1: He's like, oh, I thought no one would pay attention.
- 13:51Speaker 1: And then also there's no ending to the episode, so
- 13:53Speaker 1: you just have to still be there.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 1: The amount of speeches where this man has said something
- 13:57Speaker 1: and there's clearly an expected laugh or applause and just
- 14:03Speaker 1: nothing happens. Yeah. I'm just like... oh as a performer
- 14:07Speaker 1: i just hold my chest like yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Oh i know that we do comedy but it's it's
- 14:13Speaker 2: a it's a rough thing to have someone believe in
- 14:20Speaker 2: what they're about to say so much that they literally
- 14:25Speaker 2: you can tell that the prompter says hold for laughter
- 14:29Speaker 2: yeah Because then even if they try to read past
- 14:31Speaker 2: the hole for laughter, you can see their eyes darting
- 14:33Speaker 2: around for a second and then they keep going.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And I'm like, you're performing for a cult to bomb
- 14:41Speaker 1: in front of the people who are supposed to, who
- 14:44Speaker 1: are so emotionally invested in you that they would probably like, well,
- 14:49Speaker 1: not you, but like your boss and the thing you're
- 14:51Speaker 1: a part of. And for even them to be like,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I can't muster up though. I can't give this to you, dog. Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 2: No, and it's tough too because you can tell that
- 15:00Speaker 2: he wants to be president one day. So he's very
- 15:03Speaker 2: much being like, this is a classic Trump deal, which
- 15:08Speaker 2: is talking out of both sides of his mouth. Because
- 15:11Speaker 2: on one hand, this is a classic Trump deal in
- 15:13Speaker 2: that it's working, guys, it's working. Y'all are killing it.
- 15:15Speaker 2: But also he's trying to right now, ahead of 2028,
- 15:19Speaker 2: ahead of 2032, ahead of whenever he ends up running,
- 15:24Speaker 2: he's trying to plant the seed right now that this
- 15:26Speaker 2: is a classic Trump deal.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 2: He's not like, this is classic American ingenuity. This is
- 15:34Speaker 2: a classic Trump deal specifically.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't have anything to do with this.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I just found out about it with y'all. I'm mad too.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Well, I think the problem for Trump slash us is
- 15:46Speaker 1: like the way Trump gets past things is delay, right?
- 15:52Speaker 1: Like with his court cases, he's like, I just got
- 15:54Speaker 1: to keep delaying, delaying, delaying, delaying. till the election's over.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Or he has that refrain where he says, oh, it'll
- 16:01Speaker 1: be done in two weeks. But in this situation, the
- 16:05Speaker 1: enemy is time. It's like you will run out of time.
- 16:08Speaker 1: So pushing things off actually makes it way worse. So
- 16:12Speaker 1: the only like tactic he has, slash we have, actively
- 16:17Speaker 1: hurts us so I don't see the way out of this.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah it's a lot like when you wake up this
- 16:23Speaker 2: has happened to me a couple times where you don't
- 16:25Speaker 2: set an alarm and you are still blessed enough to
- 16:28Speaker 2: wake up exactly in time to leave for the airport
- 16:32Speaker 2: if you get up pack and brush your teeth right
- 16:34Speaker 2: now and get an uber you'll make the flight you'll
- 16:37Speaker 2: run but you'll make the flight but you would also
- 16:42Speaker 2: love to risk it with five more minutes of sleep Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Because the thing that is so dumbfounding about a lot
- 16:51Speaker 2: of this is that it wasn't a problem before you
- 16:53Speaker 2: got involved. Like, actually at all.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I didn't know about the Strait. Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I didn't know about this island. Clark?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I didn't know about a bunch of stuff. And so
- 17:05Speaker 2: this was all brought on by you. Then you seem
- 17:12Speaker 2: to have some sort of reluctance. to doing the thing
- 17:16Speaker 2: you say you're going to do, which is like attack, attack, attack, attack, attack.
- 17:20Speaker 2: But then also, you don't want any of the financial
- 17:27Speaker 2: consequences of what comes with starting something with people you
- 17:31Speaker 2: know nothing about. I also think that there's no difference
- 17:36Speaker 2: to him. And to be fair, a lot of people
- 17:40Speaker 2: in the U.S., there's no difference to him in one
- 17:45Speaker 2: Middle East nation versus another. And so you look at
- 17:50Speaker 2: Afghanistan and Iraq, and you're like, oh, we went in there,
- 17:53Speaker 2: we were basically able to do what we wanted. So
- 17:55Speaker 2: that's what I'll do here.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And meanwhile, it's like, no, Iran is way more powerful
- 18:02Speaker 1: than these people, than these other two countries. It's way bigger.
- 18:06Speaker 2: This is very dumb, but what would have clued me
- 18:09Speaker 2: in a long time ago was... in that they did
- 18:14Speaker 2: a documentary, technically a documentary series, but they did a
- 18:17Speaker 2: documentary about Mr. Olympia. And they were talking at one point,
- 18:22Speaker 2: I don't even know what brought this on because it
- 18:24Speaker 2: truly wasn't on my mind, but they were talking about
- 18:26Speaker 2: how it's Mr. Olympia, it's supposed to be the strongest
- 18:30Speaker 2: and most fit and best physiques in the world, yet
- 18:34Speaker 2: so much of it comes from the US and maybe
- 18:37Speaker 2: a little bit of Europe. And Iran was like the
- 18:40Speaker 2: only country That had like three dudes enter. I was like,
- 18:45Speaker 2: that says a lot that in this documentary, we're like,
- 18:48Speaker 2: why is this sport so, uh, us based? I know
- 18:53Speaker 2: that we came up with it to a degree, but
- 18:55Speaker 2: why aren't people flying from all over the world and
- 18:57Speaker 2: everything to compete? And then you see some Europeans. So
- 19:00Speaker 2: a couple of Russians and a couple of like Bulgarians
- 19:04Speaker 2: that are just huge. And then three Iranians.
- 19:08Speaker 1: You're just like, wait a minute.
- 19:10Speaker 2: If you had left it to sort of mainstream propaganda
- 19:13Speaker 2: to tell you, none of them should be this tall
- 19:16Speaker 2: or strong or fit.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And three of them, like, I can't stress this enough. Iran,
- 19:24Speaker 2: not as a nation, but just, like, happenstance. Iran was
- 19:28Speaker 2: represented by three people versus Russia's one.
- 19:31Speaker 1: That would give me pause as well.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd be like, what's happening?
- 19:35Speaker 1: Happening here because how do y'all have the the muscle
- 19:40Speaker 1: technology yeah to match you know the moment in the
- 19:43Speaker 1: war that uh freaks me out it was early on
- 19:47Speaker 1: with um i think it's their foreign minister he's a
- 19:50Speaker 1: guy who's like very nice hair that's how i think
- 19:53Speaker 1: about him it was also weird because it's like we
- 19:56Speaker 1: were interviewing him on just like cbs while actively at
- 19:59Speaker 1: war and he's just like.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Hello yeah yeah it was very trippy yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 1: But um the american anchor was like are you nervous
- 20:09Speaker 1: about a potential ground invasion from the U.S.? And he
- 20:13Speaker 1: just goes, no, we're waiting for them. Just like that.
- 20:17Speaker 1: And I was like, that's concerning. That's a trap. The
- 20:26Speaker 1: confidence freaks me out. He's like, I'm not concerned at all. Honestly,
- 20:31Speaker 1: bring it. Because either they have something that you don't
- 20:34Speaker 1: know about, or it's like, I don't give a fuck.
- 20:37Speaker 2: No, truly, some of them have been waiting for this
- 20:41Speaker 2: their entire life.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Which is the biggest difference between other people that we've
- 20:46Speaker 2: messed with or countries we've invaded versus them.
- 20:50Speaker 1: It's the difference between we did it on a whim
- 20:52Speaker 1: and they've been planning for 47 years. So many contingency plans.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Have you seen a lot of fights before? Like, in person? Yeah,
- 21:05Speaker 2: just in person, like, on the street and stuff like that.
- 21:07Speaker 2: It's such an interesting thing when somebody wants to fight.
- 21:12Speaker 2: When someone's being messed with, and they're like, you know what?
- 21:18Speaker 2: God must have sent you. Because I've been wanting to
- 21:23Speaker 2: beat the plaster out of somebody.
- 21:24Speaker 1: When they just take their shirt off immediately, without any, like, buildup,
- 21:28Speaker 1: they're just like.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Like, a half of a push, and they're, like, ready.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I talked about how one time there was this... these
- 21:35Speaker 2: people that it was either family dollar or dollar general
- 21:39Speaker 2: or whatever but they uh they were getting robbed and
- 21:44Speaker 2: they jumped the the robbers imagine now imagine now you
- 21:50Speaker 2: work at like family dollar dollar general something like that
- 21:53Speaker 2: pull the gun like like they like they pull the
- 21:56Speaker 2: gun all the people working there and the people working
- 21:58Speaker 2: there are like Oh, yes. Because now there's people probably
- 22:06Speaker 2: called the police like, don't call them yet.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Let me get my stops in. That's witnesses. Yeah. And
- 22:11Speaker 1: you know, they're not doing it to defend the dollar.
- 22:14Speaker 1: You know, they're not getting paid enough that they're doing
- 22:15Speaker 1: this for work.
- 22:16Speaker 2: This is for them. No, no, no. This is to
- 22:17Speaker 2: let it out. This is because I have not been
- 22:21Speaker 2: allowed to do this my entire time working here. I've
- 22:23Speaker 2: wanted to every day.
- 22:24Speaker 1: You are every customer I've ever dealt with. Yeah. And
- 22:27Speaker 1: I am going to unleash the will of God onto you.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Imagine, imagine you are trying to rob a dollar store
- 22:36Speaker 2: and then three people just Nike's in your back.
- 22:41Speaker 1: You start calling the police. I was robbing the store.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Look, look, this, this is a disproportionate response.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yeah. All right?
- 22:52Speaker 2: I just want what was in the register.
- 22:55Speaker 1: After the sixth stomp, I think you're the criminal now.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Yeah, y'all are hitting me with my gun.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Part of me, I think about if
- 23:06Speaker 1: the U.S. truly is an oligarchy, right, then what's coming
- 23:12Speaker 1: in terms of the potential impacts of this war is
- 23:16Speaker 1: so great. And it would harm so many businesses that
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm thinking about, have you seen Network?
- 23:25Speaker 2: No.
- 23:26Speaker 1: It's this movie where there's an anchor who kind of
- 23:30Speaker 1: like has a mental break. And he starts preaching in
- 23:34Speaker 1: very populist and borderline and like religious ways on the news.
- 23:40Speaker 1: But they keep him on the news because he's getting
- 23:42Speaker 1: like really good ratings. And then at one point he
- 23:46Speaker 1: says something that breaks up some oil deal or whatever.
- 23:50Speaker 1: And he gets called into this room. That's like a
- 23:53Speaker 1: giant room. It's very dark, long table. And then there's
- 23:57Speaker 1: a man there and he's like, you have messed with
- 23:59Speaker 1: the laws of nature. And he just explains capitalism to him.
- 24:04Speaker 1: He's like, money has got taken out and it must
- 24:08Speaker 1: be put back. And you have interfered with that. And
- 24:11Speaker 1: it's basically, it's like, You can do whatever you want.
- 24:14Speaker 1: You can do your little reflecting pool bullshit, but you
- 24:17Speaker 1: don't touch the money. And now he is touching the money.
- 24:21Speaker 1: So I'm like, where are the oligarchs stopping this? I
- 24:27Speaker 1: just don't know who is in charge of anything.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's why I think the structure of it
- 24:33Speaker 2: is that people here and abroad are far too comfortable
- 24:40Speaker 2: with that sort of like, patriarchal figure in place the
- 24:45Speaker 2: savior someone's gonna come say yeah yeah it's like no
- 24:48Speaker 2: no and also that could have been true for a
- 24:52Speaker 2: few people in in recent memory to a degree but
- 24:56Speaker 2: this person already said he doesn't care about you yeah
- 24:59Speaker 2: that's another crazy thing i.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Don't care about the financial situation of americans it's a
- 25:04Speaker 1: crazy thing to say.
- 25:05Speaker 2: It's a crazy thing to admit that should be a
- 25:07Speaker 2: hot mic moment i do not care and he's like
- 25:10Speaker 2: yeah it's like he lives to um not make a
- 25:14Speaker 2: hot mic necessary. He says all of his hot mic
- 25:17Speaker 2: moments to you out loud in your face.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Daytime.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Like it would even be different if this was a
- 25:24Speaker 2: Dateline interview and it was at night and it's like, look,
- 25:26Speaker 2: the president was tired and he misspoke, whatever. This is
- 25:29Speaker 2: first thing in the morning.
- 25:31Speaker 1: And then he'll come up the day after. He's like, no,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I meant that.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 1: They'll like try to clean up. He's like, oh, he
- 25:35Speaker 1: meant something else.
- 25:36Speaker 2: No, no, no, no.
- 25:37Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck.
- 25:38Speaker 2: I don't think you heard me the first time, America.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Read my lips. Yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:48Speaker 1: It just knocks out.
- 25:52Speaker 1: That's why they couldn't send Trump to the negotiations. If
- 25:54Speaker 1: you got a... If you caught a photo of the
- 25:58Speaker 1: negotiations of the Iranian, like, pointing at a map and figures,
- 26:01Speaker 1: and Trump's just like... That's crazy. Oh, my God. It's like,
- 26:08Speaker 1: we all know, like, the whole Art of the Deal
- 26:09Speaker 1: is BS, but, like... A week ago... when he was
- 26:14Speaker 1: on stage and he was like, you know, I had
- 26:18Speaker 1: to make a deal now. We were four weeks away
- 26:20Speaker 1: from global catastrophe. I was like, Nigga, don't tell them that. What? What?
- 26:31Speaker 1: You never in negotiation be like, ooh, you really had
- 26:34Speaker 1: me by the balls there. I'm like, we don't even
- 26:36Speaker 1: have a deal. We're just talking. And you just told
- 26:39Speaker 1: your audience, it's like, oh, we wait three more weeks.
- 26:42Speaker 1: We can get whatever we want.
- 26:44Speaker 2: There was a movie. I can't remember what the movie was,
- 26:47Speaker 2: but there was a movie where they're in this scene.
- 26:50Speaker 2: This soldier who is like freshly in charge of troops
- 26:55Speaker 2: is like, you scared? I'm scared too.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 2: And it was all part of a bigger speech. It
- 27:02Speaker 2: was all part of a bigger speech. But in my head,
- 27:05Speaker 2: I was like, that one line was unnecessary. That was like,
- 27:10Speaker 2: I get it.
- 27:11Speaker 1: It's like, we all know, but don't say that.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you're humanizing yourself and you're bringing them into the moment.
- 27:17Speaker 2: You're being vulnerable. I get that. But now y'all have
- 27:21Speaker 2: to run to gunfire. And so the fact that you
- 27:25Speaker 2: start the speech, you scared? I'm scared too.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Hey, just so you know, nobody's really in charge. I
- 27:31Speaker 1: don't know what I'm doing. We started this war on
- 27:33Speaker 1: a whim. Good luck, everybody.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Just so you know, this is all going to be
- 27:39Speaker 2: for nothing. That's important that you get that in your
- 27:43Speaker 2: head right now.
- 27:45Speaker 1: One, two, three, for Monsanto!
- 27:47Speaker 2: Raytheon!
- 27:50Speaker 1: Remember who you're fighting for Lehman Brothers Bank.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Yeah yeah it's no it's disaster.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Part of the destructive part of me is like it'll
- 28:01Speaker 1: be interesting sure I've never been into depression.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I've been depressed but I've never sat through like an
- 28:10Speaker 2: economic downturn quite like this.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Dust Bowl I'll see like recipes from the Dust Bowl
- 28:15Speaker 1: every once in a while water pie they say it's
- 28:18Speaker 1: not that bad what is water pie It's pie crust, water, sugar,
- 28:24Speaker 1: like chunks of butter, then like some congealing agent. And it's, yeah.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Like baking soda?
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yeah, something like that. And then you bake it. Yeah,
- 28:37Speaker 1: it's the Great Depression. You ain't getting cuisine.
- 28:39Speaker 2: So when did you have water pie?
- 28:42Speaker 1: I didn't have water pie.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Oh, you looked it up.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Water pie, yeah. Made of flour, water, sugar, butter, and vanilla.
- 28:51Speaker 1: And then, yeah.
- 28:53Speaker 2: So where's the pie part? Because that's just crust, right?
- 28:56Speaker 1: No, because it's all that stuff. Like when you put
- 28:59Speaker 1: that stuff in the water, it makes the water more
- 29:02Speaker 1: like gelatinous to like fill the space.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Oh, so it's like jello pie.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Kind of, I guess. It doesn't look bad.
- 29:09Speaker 2: No, it looks like lemon meringue.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Yeah. See, we can do a depression. No. Not even
- 29:23Speaker 1: humoring it.
- 29:24Speaker 2: No, no, those things are not the same. They're not
- 29:27Speaker 2: the same at all.
- 29:29Speaker 1: We'll get some great literature. There was some great literature
- 29:31Speaker 1: during the Great Depression.
- 29:33Speaker 2: We can't read anymore.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Yeah, we can't. Someone writes Grapes of Wrath like, the
- 29:38Speaker 1: guy ain't reading that shit throw across the wall.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah somebody's reading grace of wrath like this is the
- 29:43Speaker 2: longest insta post i've ever.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Seen boring gay and then he's going.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Tiktok yeah yeah i i don't know where we go
- 29:52Speaker 2: from here because it's like history will remember blah blah
- 29:54Speaker 2: blah is what people have been saying But I'm like,
- 29:57Speaker 2: it seems like that doesn't matter because we do remember
- 30:00Speaker 2: the last time things went this bad and how people
- 30:02Speaker 2: were acting like this.
- 30:03Speaker 1: And we're like, yeah, but we literally are like, we're
- 30:08Speaker 1: built different. That's our thing. Yeah. They were dumb. We're not.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Even though we're doing the same thing.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Yeah. It's just that Arrested Development joke. It's like, does
- 30:18Speaker 1: it ever work out for them? Nah, everyone thinks it does,
- 30:21Speaker 1: but it never does.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:22Speaker 1: But it might for us. It's my favorite joke. But
- 30:29Speaker 1: it might for us. Yeah. All right. So we're looking
- 30:33Speaker 1: ahead and seeing what you might be covering this week.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I mean, I'm going to talk about the pool for
- 30:37Speaker 2: a while. The pool's going to be amazing. The pool
- 30:40Speaker 2: goes crazy. But I also plan on talking a little
- 30:42Speaker 2: bit about the Great American Festival or fair or whatever
- 30:48Speaker 2: this thing is that it was supposed to be versus
- 30:51Speaker 2: what it's going to be. Because initially, it was going
- 30:53Speaker 2: to be like this big concert. They were going to
- 30:55Speaker 2: have a big old concert, and they invited all the A-listers,
- 30:59Speaker 2: and the A-listers said they were busy. And then they
- 31:01Speaker 2: invited B, and B was... Who's B? B is kind
- 31:07Speaker 2: of who they got. Like a Bret Michaels and stuff.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Okay. Oh, the B-list. Yeah, the B-list. I thought there
- 31:12Speaker 1: was an artist named B.
- 31:13Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. That'd be a nightmare as far
- 31:16Speaker 2: as SEO.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Oh, God, no.
- 31:19Speaker 2: But then people start pulling out because it was clear
- 31:22Speaker 2: that there's a difference between Freedom 250 and America 250.
- 31:26Speaker 2: And they're different orgs. They do different things. And one is, like, completely, apparently,
- 31:32Speaker 2: run by Trump, where the other one is, like, a
- 31:34Speaker 2: bipartisan committee that's like, it'd be nice to have a
- 31:38Speaker 2: new library opened or whatever. And then he's the one
- 31:42Speaker 2: that's like, let's have people do it, like, pop wheelies
- 31:45Speaker 2: on the White House lawn.
- 31:47Speaker 1: It is crazy. crazy to name them so similarly. For
- 31:50Speaker 1: the president to do what Struggle Artist on LimeWire did,
- 31:53Speaker 1: where you just name your song Big Pimpin'..
- 31:58Speaker 2: Yeah, for the president to do what the parents of
- 32:01Speaker 2: twins do is like, well.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Jalen and Kalen.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Yeah, one letter away. So, yeah, I'm going to talk
- 32:10Speaker 2: about that. Talk about who pulled out, who's still in.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Also....
- 32:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you got vanilla ice. I mean, he'll stay till
- 32:20Speaker 2: the end.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 2: I think he will be chill doing it even when
- 32:25Speaker 2: they also ask him to leave.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I think he just needs a place to stay. I
- 32:30Speaker 1: think that's what this is. Amen. My lease is up. Amen.
- 32:35Speaker 2: My lease is up. And the White House got a
- 32:37Speaker 2: lot of windows, which means it must have a lot
- 32:38Speaker 2: of rooms, which means you must have extra.
- 32:40Speaker 1: You're keeping that... The MMA stage there, I could put
- 32:45Speaker 1: a tarp over that.
- 32:46Speaker 2: If you put a tarp over that, that's a whole apartment.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Plug up the walls, get some spackling for the cage.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Octagon shape, you can't run into the wall sharp if
- 32:55Speaker 2: you tried.
- 32:56Speaker 1: That's what, we keep our vanilla ice there. You can
- 32:58Speaker 1: feed them if you want to.
- 32:59Speaker 2: That is, yeah, what a water pie is.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Vanilla ice. You put in some, it's water, a little
- 33:06Speaker 1: vanilla ice. Vanilla ice literally is the ingredients to water pie. Yeah.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Oh, this depression's coming. There's so many, like, signs from God.
- 33:17Speaker 1: He's like, prepare yourself.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you should watch out for, I mean, maybe don't
- 33:21Speaker 2: elect someone who bankrupted multiple casinos. But, yeah, now that
- 33:25Speaker 2: you're past that, you just got to get ready for
- 33:27Speaker 2: that pain.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I was about to say, I'm ready. I can't even joke.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I'm scared.
- 33:32Speaker 2: No, I'm pretty scared.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I am nervous.
- 33:34Speaker 2: I'm nervous.
- 33:35Speaker 1: It's cool. You know, I had a fun bachelorette party
- 33:38Speaker 1: this weekend. I've done all the things I need to do. Karaoke, man,
- 33:46Speaker 1: that's the bucket list. That's fair. Are you watching the
- 33:49Speaker 1: World Cup?
- 33:50Speaker 2: I'm watching some of the World Cup. I'm watching the
- 33:52Speaker 2: World Cup once in a while. And how close are
- 33:55Speaker 2: the U.S.
- 33:56Speaker 1: 's chances? Very low. I don't think we're bad.
- 34:02Speaker 2: I don't think we're bad either. We've been winning, but
- 34:05Speaker 2: I don't know what the knockout round means. I assume
- 34:09Speaker 2: that all of playing in FIFA was knockout.
- 34:13Speaker 1: All of our, like, foreign fans are just like these
- 34:16Speaker 1: stupid American mothers. I'm like, I don't know. All I
- 34:20Speaker 1: know is our women's team is really good.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Yeah, no, they're incredible.
- 34:24Speaker 1: And our men's team's, like, decent.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:26Speaker 1: It would be bad for the world if we won.
- 34:30Speaker 1: For us to, if we somehow pulled off a miracle. Yeah.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And this year, out of all years we won, it
- 34:38Speaker 1: would not be good. You would have to take the
- 34:40Speaker 1: podium like, ah, sorry.
- 34:42Speaker 2: You just take the podium like, look, this is a
- 34:46Speaker 2: sport which is different than policy.
- 34:50Speaker 1: We didn't have anything to do with that. Yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 2: We are all so confused, by the way.
- 34:56Speaker 1: We don't like this either. But thank you for the trophy.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Please don't assault us when we leave the stadium. Yeah.
- 35:04Speaker 2: No, no, because those fans are something else.
- 35:07Speaker 1: They get down. Yeah.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Here's the thing. We should definitely cut some of this
- 35:12Speaker 2: because we know so little about World Cup that it
- 35:17Speaker 2: would actually distract and undercut all of our points.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm like Messi's short, Ronaldo's tall. They're both pretty good. Argentina. Brazil?
- 35:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that last minute, we gotta lose.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Yeah. So it's time for something we call Daily Show
- 35:37Speaker 1: and Tell. So what's something that you've watched, read, listened to,
- 35:41Speaker 1: argued about, or just been on your mind lately?
- 35:44Speaker 2: I read the graphic novel Five Gears in Reverse by
- 35:49Speaker 2: Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. And then I've just started
- 35:52Speaker 2: reading the Invisible Man graphic novel by James Tinian. And
- 35:58Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to finishing that.
- 36:00Speaker 1: That one as well very cool mine's not as unique
- 36:03Speaker 1: uh saw obsession loved it i love horror movies in
- 36:08Speaker 1: general probably one of my top five.
- 36:10Speaker 2: So the thing with obsession that i think is so
- 36:13Speaker 2: perfectly done is not only is it about like getting
- 36:17Speaker 2: what you want everything like that but the way in
- 36:19Speaker 2: which okay i'm not going to give anything away but
- 36:23Speaker 2: the the way in which she scares him is actually
- 36:30Speaker 2: how I've seen some dudes be scared before. Every once
- 36:34Speaker 2: in a while, you will be like, why is this
- 36:38Speaker 2: six-foot-even dude scared of this tiny woman? And it's like,
- 36:43Speaker 2: you haven't been around.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:45Speaker 2: You haven't been around.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I haven't been there at midnight when she does the
- 36:49Speaker 1: weird stuff she does.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Or you haven't seen her really act like she's ready
- 36:54Speaker 2: to scrap with you, and you're like, how am I
- 36:57Speaker 2: supposed to react to this?
- 36:59Speaker 1: It is funny, too, in terms of, like, the first half.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Not half, but, like, the very, very, like, early parts
- 37:07Speaker 1: of the movie of her being, you know, different. I'm like,
- 37:12Speaker 1: the fear is very, like, male in terms of, like, oh,
- 37:17Speaker 1: what a crazy woman. And then it just immediately switched to, like,
- 37:20Speaker 1: female fear of, like, oh, this guy is the worst
- 37:25Speaker 1: man to ever live.
- 37:26Speaker 2: I'm with someone unstable.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's all the time we have for
- 37:31Speaker 1: the pre-cap. I'm Renal Otis. Catch Josh Johnson hosting The
