- 0:09Speaker 1: Some people stop truly living long before they stop breathing.
- 0:13Speaker 1: They settle into routines, play it safe, and accept that
- 0:16Speaker 1: their best years are behind them. But what if that
- 0:20Speaker 1: belief is what's holding them back? What if the limits
- 0:23Speaker 1: aren't physical but mental. Today we're talking with someone who
- 0:27Speaker 1: chose to challenge those limits and prove it's never too
- 0:29Speaker 1: late to grow, push boundaries and redefine what's possible. Hello everybody,
- 0:41Speaker 1: and welcome to Life TV Now, where we unpack all
- 0:44Speaker 1: matters of truth, faith and freedom. I'm Joe artists Worn.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Today we're going to continue a conversation that we started
- 0:50Speaker 1: last week on how the power of simply changing how
- 0:54Speaker 1: you perceive things to be can actually play out in
- 0:56Speaker 1: your life, taking you closer and closer to God's calling
- 0:59Speaker 1: for you. But before we dive in, let me introduce
- 1:02Speaker 1: who's here. She's an integrative nutrition health coach with a
- 1:05Speaker 1: Master of Science and health Education. Please welcome our executive director,
- 1:09Speaker 1: Jamie Woodle, and she's a motivational speaker and clinical therapist
- 1:18Speaker 1: with a master's degree in counseling and training in neurofeedback
- 1:22Speaker 1: and mindset transformation. She helps people break through mental and
- 1:26Speaker 1: emotional barriers. To create healthier, more fulfilling lives. Alongside her husband,
- 1:31Speaker 1: doctor Steve Treger, she co leads Step into Vitality, a
- 1:35Speaker 1: wellness consulting practice focused on sustainable physical and mental health.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Please welcome Debbie Traeger. If you missed last week's program,
- 1:49Speaker 1: go back to the archives wherever it is that you
- 1:51Speaker 1: watch Life TV now make sure that you get caught
- 1:54Speaker 1: up on this conversation because we're not going to relitigate
- 1:56Speaker 1: this week much of what we covered last week, But Debbie,
- 2:00Speaker 1: are those that missed it. We talked about the power
- 2:02Speaker 1: of mindset, not mystical, talking about taking action along with
- 2:07Speaker 1: resting in some of your feelings when God has given
- 2:10Speaker 1: you a vision, when he's given you a calling, when
- 2:12Speaker 1: he's called you to do a certain ministerial thing, or
- 2:15Speaker 1: maybe even in your day to day lives, ministering to
- 2:18Speaker 1: a co worker, for example, something that you feel is
- 2:22Speaker 1: something God's called you towards, and maybe in advance of that,
- 2:26Speaker 1: just resting in the feelings of what that's going to
- 2:29Speaker 1: look like and that positive interaction. When you're spending time
- 2:34Speaker 1: in quiet, when you've blocked out part of your day
- 2:37Speaker 1: with God, he will use some of those feelings to
- 2:40Speaker 1: then create the energy that you need, the inspiration that
- 2:44Speaker 1: you need, the motivation that you need to then putting
- 2:47Speaker 1: in the work to getting to the thing that He's
- 2:49Speaker 1: called you to do. Can you briefly recap some of
- 2:52Speaker 1: what we talked about last week for anyone who missed it,
- 2:54Speaker 1: and then share a moment in your personal journey that
- 2:56Speaker 1: you call a defining moment, maybe something that helped you
- 3:01Speaker 1: get here today. As now a health advocate and someone
- 3:04Speaker 1: who coaches a lot of people on positive thinking taking action.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Well, you know, we talked a lot last week. I
- 3:11Speaker 2: kind of helped start a prison ministry when we were
- 3:13Speaker 2: in Colorado, and I would go in and we would
- 3:16Speaker 2: have dramas and music and Bible study for the women
- 3:19Speaker 2: in prison. And one night I was praying for these
- 3:21Speaker 2: women in prison, and God's kind of like, well, that's
- 3:23Speaker 2: really nice that you're praying for these women in prison.
- 3:25Speaker 3: But at least these women.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Know what the prison looks like, because you are have
- 3:29Speaker 2: created your own prison and you don't even know what
- 3:31Speaker 2: the walls look like. So it really just made me
- 3:33Speaker 2: think about, Okay, what what have I been so afraid
- 3:37Speaker 2: of doing that I need to step out? What's holding
- 3:41Speaker 2: me back and what does that prison look like? And
- 3:43Speaker 2: how do I get out? Actually, there's some animals in
- 3:45Speaker 2: a zoo and I can't remember what kind of animals,
- 3:47Speaker 2: kind of like a caribou, and they dig this trench.
- 3:50Speaker 2: There's not even a fence around. They just dig this
- 3:52Speaker 2: trench around them. It's only like three feet deep and
- 3:55Speaker 2: they could easily jump over it, but because they don't
- 3:57Speaker 2: know how deep it is, they just stay there because
- 3:59Speaker 2: they're too afraid to jump over the bridge.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:01Speaker 2: So, so anyways, so I started really looking at my
- 4:03Speaker 2: life and seeing, you know, what things I wanted to
- 4:05Speaker 2: do and what was keeping me from doing it. And
- 4:08Speaker 2: so that really kind of started me on this journey.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And so when you think about it, when you say
- 4:12Speaker 2: don't do something, or you can't do this, or like
- 4:16Speaker 2: you said, don't don't step off the rail or don't
- 4:19Speaker 2: fall off, that's exactly what you want to do. Right
- 4:22Speaker 2: When you tell a kid like don't touch that, so
- 4:24Speaker 2: your brain doesn't hear that, don't it Just here's whatever
- 4:26Speaker 2: you say after that. So if I say don't think
- 4:28Speaker 2: about elephants, you're thinking about elephants because you can't help
- 4:31Speaker 2: but think about elephants, right, I.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Have seen some pictures of you doing what I don't think.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I'm not going to say in front of Debbie Traeger
- 4:39Speaker 1: that I couldn't do it. Let's just say I don't
- 4:40Speaker 1: want to.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Do it, right, that's fair?
- 4:43Speaker 1: Can I say I don't want to do it?
- 4:44Speaker 4: Saying you don't want to do it?
- 4:46Speaker 1: But barefoot water skiing? And I know that you should
- 4:50Speaker 1: never ask a lady her age. But as the people
- 4:52Speaker 1: here in attendance have said, you have a glow about you.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I don't think people have a clue how well you've
- 4:58Speaker 1: kept yourself to leave. Physically, you've kept in shape. You're
- 5:02Speaker 1: doing activities that are not something you can square or
- 5:05Speaker 1: reconcile without something being different. You're not following the standard
- 5:09Speaker 1: American diet. You're not just accepting that. You know with
- 5:13Speaker 1: age you have to give up activities because it's normal
- 5:16Speaker 1: when you get over fifty you need to start sitting
- 5:18Speaker 1: more and eating more and resting more like this? Can
- 5:22Speaker 1: I say that she's got an indomitable worldview? Is that fair?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Your husband is here? Is that right? Yes, she's got
- 5:29Speaker 1: an indomitable personality. She sees a thing, she believes that
- 5:33Speaker 1: she can do it. She goes and gives it a whirl,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and that has meant then you've got to do all
- 5:37Speaker 1: these crazy things barefoot water.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Scheme, right, right.
- 5:40Speaker 2: So when Steve and I got married, I never really
- 5:42Speaker 2: water skied before, but he was a big water skier.
- 5:45Speaker 2: He's slow and skied and his brother was still barefooting,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and I thought it looks really cool.
- 5:50Speaker 3: So I thought, that is so cool.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But the more I learned about bearfitting, I mean, you
- 5:53Speaker 2: usually learn that when you're a teenager early twenties maybe,
- 5:56Speaker 2: and the most people after that they quit doing it
- 5:58Speaker 2: if they even knew how to do it. And Steve
- 6:00Speaker 2: actually was working on learning how to do it. He
- 6:02Speaker 2: actually fell and broke the spiniest process off his neck.
- 6:05Speaker 2: So in my mind, barefooting was something you learned when
- 6:08Speaker 2: you were young, and it's very dangerous and you could die, okay,
- 6:11Speaker 2: And so I thought, I'm never going to learn how
- 6:13Speaker 2: to do that. That's just not if it looks cool, I
- 6:14Speaker 2: think that'd be cool, but it's probably not going to
- 6:16Speaker 2: be something I'm going to do. But then we moved
- 6:18Speaker 2: to the lake, we met this guy that was sixty
- 6:21Speaker 2: nine and he was still bearfooting, and I'm thinking, wow,
- 6:25Speaker 2: if he could still barefoot, maybe I could learn to barefoot.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And he was like, well, I could teach you. And
- 6:29Speaker 2: at the time I was forty five. I'm sixty five
- 6:32Speaker 2: actually now and he was sixty nine, which doesn't sound
- 6:34Speaker 2: that old to me now, but at the time it
- 6:36Speaker 2: seems really old, right, And so I'm saying, he's sixty nine,
- 6:38Speaker 2: he's still barefooting, maybe I could learn. So anyway, he
- 6:41Speaker 2: knew I was excited it was interested in that at least.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And so one day I'm laying out at the dock
- 6:45Speaker 2: with my friend and we're waiting for the guys to
- 6:46Speaker 2: come down, and he comes down. He's all mad because
- 6:48Speaker 2: nobody wants to go out and do fun water things
- 6:50Speaker 2: with him. And he goes, would you like to come?
- 6:52Speaker 2: And you know, maybe you can want to go out
- 6:53Speaker 2: learn how to barefoot today. I'm like, sure, I'll try. Well,
- 6:56Speaker 2: that's my first mistake. Okay, when you say you try.
- 6:58Speaker 2: If you're going to try, you're not really doing it.
- 7:00Speaker 2: You're either doing something or you're not doing something. Okay,
- 7:04Speaker 2: you're if you're trying, you're already telling your brain you're.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Not going to do it.
- 7:06Speaker 2: It's like if somebody invites you to come over and
- 7:08Speaker 2: you say, oh, we'll try.
- 7:09Speaker 3: You're not going.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I mean, it's just a polite say way of saying
- 7:12Speaker 2: we're not coming, right, you're going to try, You're really
- 7:14Speaker 2: probably not going to do it, Okay, So that was
- 7:16Speaker 2: my first mistake.
- 7:17Speaker 3: I'll try.
- 7:18Speaker 2: So I get in the boat and I go out
- 7:19Speaker 2: and oh my gosh, I got beat up so bad.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I mean the end of the that day, I go
- 7:23Speaker 2: to bed and I can't even lift my head off
- 7:25Speaker 2: my off my oh my pillow because it hurts so bad.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I feel like I've been a hundred car accidents. So
- 7:30Speaker 2: I'm laying there thinking, I said, you know, you really
- 7:32Speaker 2: do not believe that you can do this. And I said,
- 7:35Speaker 2: you either have to decide to believe that you can
- 7:37Speaker 2: do it, or you need to tell that man you're done.
- 7:39Speaker 3: You're not going to do it.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Because you are going to kill yourself if you keep
- 7:42Speaker 2: going out there with this belief. So I laid there
- 7:44Speaker 2: and I said, Okay, what's it going to be like
- 7:45Speaker 2: for me? At the time, I was forty five, and
- 7:47Speaker 2: I'm pretty competitive, and so what's it going to be
- 7:49Speaker 2: like to tell this old man that I can't I
- 7:52Speaker 2: can't do this, I'm too old.
- 7:54Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, that does not sound good.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So I said, all right, so if you're going to
- 7:58Speaker 2: do this, you've got to start invincing yourself to you
- 8:01Speaker 2: leave you do it. So I got out of bed,
- 8:02Speaker 2: I went looked in the mirror, and I said to myself,
- 8:04Speaker 2: I am a bearfooter. I am a barefooter. I am
- 8:07Speaker 2: a barefooter. It's I'm like, all right, I'm a barefoot
- 8:09Speaker 2: I put on the soup, I got in the boat.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I haven't really done it yet, but I am declaring
- 8:13Speaker 2: that I am a barefooter. So I go to bed
- 8:14Speaker 2: that night and I just start visualizing what it would
- 8:17Speaker 2: be like to actually be doing it, what it felt like,
- 8:19Speaker 2: the water of the spray.
- 8:20Speaker 3: All the stuff that's going on.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And then that night I actually came up with a
- 8:24Speaker 2: way for me to get up a bit better at
- 8:26Speaker 2: that time, and so that's kind of how it started.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And so my goal was to by the time I
- 8:30Speaker 2: was fifty was to be longlining barefoot. So the way
- 8:33Speaker 2: we start is there's a pole it's called a boom
- 8:35Speaker 2: that comes off the side of the boat. It's just
- 8:36Speaker 2: a stable bar. It's near the driver's side, so that
- 8:39Speaker 2: you can hang on. It's a lot more sturdy, and
- 8:40Speaker 2: it's a good way to learn water sports because it
- 8:43Speaker 2: doesn't give so much. And so my goal was to
- 8:45Speaker 2: be off the boom and long lived barefooting by the
- 8:49Speaker 2: time I was fifty. And it sounds like five years.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Sounds like a long time, but I was only able
- 8:54Speaker 2: to see him a few times during each summer visit
- 8:56Speaker 2: that we were there, actually, so it really wasn't that
- 8:58Speaker 2: many times.
- 8:59Speaker 3: And every time I got out there.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I said, Okay, don't fall, don't fall, And I said, no,
- 9:02Speaker 2: you can't think about no, you can't say that. You've
- 9:03Speaker 2: got to say get up, get up. So I've tried
- 9:05Speaker 2: to every time, Okay, don't fall. No, no, it's get up,
- 9:08Speaker 2: get up. And then one day I remembered something. It's
- 9:10Speaker 2: kind of like what you reas, this persist, and so
- 9:13Speaker 2: I kept kept pushing back that resisting like the message
- 9:17Speaker 2: don't fall, And then one day I just said to myself,
- 9:19Speaker 2: he said, okay, you're right. I could fall, and I
- 9:21Speaker 2: have fallen a bunch. Okay, but I'm still okay, and
- 9:24Speaker 2: so i could fall, but I'm doing it this time, right,
- 9:27Speaker 2: And so that voice kind of just went away after
- 9:28Speaker 2: that if I kind of acknowledge the message, because that
- 9:31Speaker 2: that message is there to kind of keep you safe.
- 9:32Speaker 2: But so sometimes you just kind of have to anowledge Okay,
- 9:34Speaker 2: yeah that could be true, but I'm doing it anyway, okay.
- 9:37Speaker 3: And so that was kind of how I got started.
- 9:40Speaker 2: And it was just like in my mind, and some
- 9:41Speaker 2: people would see me fall and take so many hard falls,
- 9:43Speaker 2: they're like, why is she doing this?
- 9:45Speaker 3: She's crazy?
- 9:46Speaker 2: And even in your family, like when you decide that
- 9:48Speaker 2: you're going to do something, you'll have a lot of
- 9:49Speaker 2: people like tried to talk about it.
- 9:51Speaker 3: People say, why are your crazy? You're going to kill yourself?
- 9:52Speaker 3: Why are you doing that? Whatever?
- 9:53Speaker 2: But I'm like, you know, and sometimes in the middle
- 9:55Speaker 2: of it, you go, wow, maybe I'm just not ever
- 9:58Speaker 2: going to get this. Maybe I really can't do it.
- 10:00Speaker 2: And I think that's the reason it's a good thing
- 10:01Speaker 2: to have a coach, because sometimes a coach sees things
- 10:04Speaker 2: that you don't see, right, and then they can tell you,
- 10:07Speaker 2: and they can you can borrow their belief until you
- 10:09Speaker 2: can get enough of your own. And so I said,
- 10:11Speaker 2: if they still believe it, then I guess I can
- 10:13Speaker 2: still believe it. So I'm going to hang in there
- 10:15Speaker 2: and keep doing it. So just that resistance to do that.
- 10:19Speaker 2: And we kind of talked about breakthroughs and why sometimes
- 10:21Speaker 2: you quit before the breakthrough. So when I was first
- 10:23Speaker 2: learning to longline and actually getting up, right before I
- 10:27Speaker 2: would like get up, I feel like I was going
- 10:29Speaker 2: to fall, and I would let go and somebody said,
- 10:31Speaker 2: they said, why do you are you?
- 10:32Speaker 3: Why did you let go? I said, well, I.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Kind kind of like wobbly back there, and I just
- 10:35Speaker 2: felt like I was going to fall, and they were like,
- 10:37Speaker 2: you're almost there. Just that's when you've got to hang
- 10:39Speaker 2: on tighter and dig in deeper. And so I'm like, oh, okay.
- 10:42Speaker 2: So so I did that and then then I was up.
- 10:45Speaker 2: But it's like sometimes we are so afraid then we
- 10:48Speaker 2: just kind of let go and give up before we
- 10:50Speaker 2: actually you know, hit that breakthrough moment. But but anyway,
- 10:53Speaker 2: so that was kind of my story. And then Geene,
- 10:55Speaker 2: he is the my barefoot coach and his dream though,
- 10:59Speaker 2: he goes, okay, once you once you learn the long line,
- 11:01Speaker 2: we're going to double long line together and you're going
- 11:03Speaker 2: to be in your kikini and your hair blond hair
- 11:05Speaker 2: is going to be blowing and it's going to be
- 11:06Speaker 2: fabulous and all this stuff. And I'm going, Okay, that
- 11:08Speaker 2: sounds like a fantasy to me, but I guess you
- 11:10Speaker 2: can continue to have your fantasy. I'm going to stick
- 11:12Speaker 2: with my goal. Just me behind the boat right now
- 11:14Speaker 2: and it. But actually we have done that, so we
- 11:17Speaker 2: doubled long Line together. We've actually done Doc starts off
- 11:20Speaker 2: that you run and jump off the dock and the
- 11:22Speaker 2: boat takes off and go, and that's that was kind
- 11:24Speaker 2: of terrifying actually, so anyway, but it was just kind
- 11:26Speaker 2: of like I just had to change my mindset to
- 11:29Speaker 2: say I am a barefooter and just to keep focusing
- 11:32Speaker 2: on what that feels like when you do it. So
- 11:34Speaker 2: when I first started, my friend she's like, you look
- 11:36Speaker 2: like a dearerent headlights. You look terrified. I oh, I
- 11:37Speaker 2: am terrified.
- 11:38Speaker 3: I mean it's real.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But then once you kind of used to that, it's
- 11:42Speaker 2: like it's going everything is going so fast, the water
- 11:44Speaker 2: splashing in your face and you're zipping through the water
- 11:47Speaker 2: at you know, thirty five miles an hour underwater, and
- 11:50Speaker 2: it just feels like intense. But once you do it,
- 11:53Speaker 2: then okay, that's normal. That's what always happens and everything
- 11:56Speaker 2: just slows down. And now I'm getting in and I'm
- 11:58Speaker 2: really relaxed. But before i'm I'm like, I'm actually literally
- 12:00Speaker 2: shaking in the water before I took off because those
- 12:02Speaker 2: falls are not fun. There's a reason younger people learn
- 12:05Speaker 2: to do that first, right. So anyway, so that was
- 12:08Speaker 2: just kind of my breakthrough on that, and I guess
- 12:11Speaker 2: what I realized is that people that I was working
- 12:13Speaker 2: with that had never been thin before, this is what
- 12:16Speaker 2: they really struggle for.
- 12:17Speaker 3: If you've never done it and you never know.
- 12:19Speaker 2: What it's like to do it, it takes a lot
- 12:21Speaker 2: to just break through that mental obstacle that you can
- 12:25Speaker 2: do it and just keep going after it. And sometimes
- 12:28Speaker 2: you want to quit before you get there, but you
- 12:30Speaker 2: just got to keep focused on the end and keep
- 12:33Speaker 2: doing it.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I don't know if you agree with this, but while
- 12:35Speaker 1: you're describing your journey there, my brain is thinking, there
- 12:39Speaker 1: is that still small voice that also is there to
- 12:41Speaker 1: caution you against I mean there are yeah, I would
- 12:43Speaker 1: say risk versus rewards. So if you're pulled to something
- 12:46Speaker 1: or if you needed that, if you needed that experience,
- 12:49Speaker 1: Debbie Traeger, God needed you to go through that. So
- 12:52Speaker 1: that you could learn some profound lesson about you. I
- 12:55Speaker 1: agree that there will be a lot of people that
- 12:58Speaker 1: just put limitations arbitraryly on things and they'll never ever
- 13:01Speaker 1: get beyond it, and they are going to slowly get sicker.
- 13:04Speaker 1: They are their body's going to shut down, they're going
- 13:06Speaker 1: to get stiffer, their joints are going to age. I
- 13:09Speaker 1: agree with that completely. But let me just say I'm
- 13:12Speaker 1: so thankful that God called Debbie Traeger to learn that
- 13:16Speaker 1: lesson because I don't want to do fairfoot water skiing.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Is that fair?
- 13:22Speaker 2: That's fair? And what I told myself is that you know,
- 13:24Speaker 2: if I can learn to do this, I can do anything.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So it really just walked me.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Through like physical you know, walk through the things and
- 13:32Speaker 2: the mental piece that you have to fight through because
- 13:34Speaker 2: it was more mental than it was physical. Yeah, And
- 13:37Speaker 2: that was just a real like opened up a lot
- 13:39Speaker 2: of things for me. And you say, that's kind of funny.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So I have a friend that I walk with and
- 13:43Speaker 2: she knew I didn't ride bikes and she said, she
- 13:46Speaker 2: said to me, she goes, your husband says that you
- 13:48Speaker 2: can do anything you set your mind to. So she
- 13:50Speaker 2: goes that that's true. Why can't you ride a bike?
- 13:54Speaker 2: And I said, because I don't want to.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Oh, oh okay.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I don't want to. I don't have a place to
- 13:58Speaker 2: ride it. There's no why would I do this on
- 14:00Speaker 2: the Kurby roads I live on And I had a
- 14:02Speaker 2: traumatic experience on a bike when I was younger. I
- 14:05Speaker 2: just I just don't want to.
- 14:05Speaker 1: So it's it's fair, But you believe if you cared
- 14:08Speaker 1: about it and wanted.
- 14:09Speaker 3: To, I could You could do it if I cared
- 14:10Speaker 3: about it.
- 14:11Speaker 1: You didn't stop though, with just you know, barefoot water
- 14:13Speaker 1: seeing or barefooting. You went on at age sixty two
- 14:17Speaker 1: to compete in bodybuilding.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, this is something.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Okay. I've been at the Secrets in healthcare conferences and
- 14:23Speaker 1: I've seen you put this on at your you know,
- 14:25Speaker 1: your your talks, and I don't think people believe it's
- 14:29Speaker 1: possible that you're sixty two when they're seeing, you know,
- 14:32Speaker 1: the images of this event and you're in line with
- 14:34Speaker 1: all of these other women. How much younger were they?
- 14:37Speaker 1: I mean you you didn't stop with just barefoot water skiing.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I mean you're living this thing out. You're just not
- 14:42Speaker 1: going to be stopped. You're going to do whatever it
- 14:44Speaker 1: is that you think you want to do that God's
- 14:46Speaker 1: called you to do, this is good for you.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Well I did that because this was kind of right
- 14:50Speaker 2: after COVID and I got in a lot of bad habits.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Like a lot of people during COVID, I was drinking
- 14:54Speaker 2: too much, eating too much, and I just felt disgusted
- 14:57Speaker 2: with myself. And so I thought, okay, well I can't
- 14:59Speaker 2: keep this. But I knew what I needed to do,
- 15:01Speaker 2: but I just didn't want to do it, you know.
- 15:03Speaker 2: And I said, I've really got to challenge myself to
- 15:05Speaker 2: give myself a reason to like do the things I
- 15:07Speaker 2: need to do to get my health where I wanted
- 15:10Speaker 2: it to be. And so I met this lady that
- 15:11Speaker 2: she was thirty five at the time, and she had
- 15:14Speaker 2: done a bodybuilding competition and she showed me her pictures
- 15:16Speaker 2: on that Oh my gosh, you look amazing. I said, well,
- 15:18Speaker 2: if I can transform and look like that, I would
- 15:20Speaker 2: give up some stuff. And so that just kind of said, Okay,
- 15:23Speaker 2: this is the motivation I need. And then not everybody
- 15:25Speaker 2: needs that motivation to put yourself on stage and thrown
- 15:27Speaker 2: the thousands of people in a bikini, you know, next
- 15:30Speaker 2: to the women half your age. But but for me
- 15:32Speaker 2: that was enough, That was terrifying enough that I'm going
- 15:34Speaker 2: to do this right and get a coach and bodybuild
- 15:37Speaker 2: and I really never lifted weights before, but I thought,
- 15:39Speaker 2: this is what I'm going to do and.
- 15:41Speaker 1: It's not really strict take you to get into shape
- 15:43Speaker 1: for that.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Well, I trained for six months before that one, and
- 15:46Speaker 2: then I did another one after that, and then I
- 15:48Speaker 2: did a national competition the year after that.
- 15:50Speaker 3: So I went to nationals and did that.
- 15:51Speaker 2: So I kind of did six months at a time
- 15:53Speaker 2: probably for two years or lover or so to do that.
- 15:56Speaker 1: But what was there a point where you kind of
- 15:58Speaker 1: had seen what you wanted out of that experience and
- 16:00Speaker 1: then like are you still doing that?
- 16:02Speaker 3: So I'm not doing that now.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I've taken a year off and I've got a new
- 16:05Speaker 2: a new goal for myself next. So my new talk,
- 16:09Speaker 2: I can't if you guys think it guy tired.
- 16:12Speaker 1: You guys want to hear what's good? New goal?
- 16:16Speaker 2: Like I said, I only put myself out there, right,
- 16:18Speaker 2: So we go back to the bike and this you
- 16:19Speaker 2: know this eighty two year old she just won the
- 16:21Speaker 2: World Cup like Ironman competition, but you got to run
- 16:24Speaker 2: twenty six miles and you've got to bike I don't
- 16:26Speaker 2: know how many miles, and you got to swim and
- 16:28Speaker 2: open water. I'm thinking, Okay, I don't want to bike.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I don't want to swim and open water.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I've already done a half marathon and that was enough.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't need to do I did half
- 16:35Speaker 2: marathon a pike speakings, I don't really need to do
- 16:37Speaker 2: a marathon.
- 16:37Speaker 3: So I didn't want to do that.
- 16:38Speaker 2: So I was trying to find something to encourage me
- 16:40Speaker 2: to kind of what's my next kind of goal. So
- 16:42Speaker 2: I saw this lady on TikTok and she was seventy
- 16:44Speaker 2: two and she's the oldest woman to go to the
- 16:47Speaker 2: Warrior competition and complete one of the obstacles.
- 16:50Speaker 3: So I thought, that looks like fun. So I think.
- 16:52Speaker 2: So I started going to the Ninto Warrior Gym and
- 16:55Speaker 2: Republic and working out, and I thought, man, you just
- 16:58Speaker 2: take a little time off of lifting weight.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I mean it leads fast. So I said, I really got.
- 17:02Speaker 2: To get back in the gym. I got to get
- 17:04Speaker 2: some of this muscle mass back. And so that's that's
- 17:06Speaker 2: my next skull is Ninja Warrior stuff.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Do you know who one of my friends is should
- 17:11Speaker 1: I tell who? Should I tell? Who? Do you remember
- 17:14Speaker 1: Daniel Gill? I think it was the twenty twenty two
- 17:18Speaker 1: winner of Okay, and he competed for multiple years. He's
- 17:22Speaker 1: still staying super in shape. But now he was the
- 17:24Speaker 1: winner of the entire thing. But I met him. He
- 17:27Speaker 1: came out to SkyWatch TV about five years ago and
- 17:31Speaker 1: talked about his book, and he was very much in
- 17:33Speaker 1: line with a lot of you know, you just you
- 17:35Speaker 1: just got to believe that God has given you the
- 17:36Speaker 1: strength and you get after. Of course, literally his knuckles
- 17:39Speaker 1: have muscles, right, you have to. He can like hodd
- 17:43Speaker 1: ont A, you know, a little tiny, little, tiny little thing,
- 17:46Speaker 1: his whole body weight from like three fingers.
- 17:48Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you shouldn't even have muscles like Daniel gild but
- 17:52Speaker 1: he's got them. The thing is, but he loved my
- 17:55Speaker 1: father too, and he sent condolences when my father passed away.
- 17:58Speaker 1: And one of the last pictures I have of me
- 18:00Speaker 1: and my dad together was at the SkyWatch television studio
- 18:04Speaker 1: looking at the hardback version of Daniel Gill's brand new
- 18:08Speaker 1: book at the time in twenty twenty two. Anyway, so
- 18:11Speaker 1: I sent Daniel that picture. I said, man, this is
- 18:13Speaker 1: one of the last photos my dad and I had.
- 18:15Speaker 1: That's looking at your book because he had just mailed
- 18:17Speaker 1: it to me.
- 18:17Speaker 2: But anyway, well, well, the thing is, I mean, as
- 18:19Speaker 2: you get older, you really need to, you know, lift weights.
- 18:22Speaker 2: You need to get your muscle mass, because that's what
- 18:25Speaker 2: happens to a lot of older people.
- 18:26Speaker 3: They get older and.
- 18:27Speaker 2: They fall and then they can't catch themselves. And so
- 18:30Speaker 2: I know that keeping muscle mass is important, but I
- 18:32Speaker 2: have to have some way of challenging myself to motivate
- 18:35Speaker 2: myself to get in and lifting. So I really don't
- 18:37Speaker 2: like lifting weights, honestly, but it's important to do that.
- 18:39Speaker 2: And the thing is, I don't think if people understand
- 18:41Speaker 2: what all goes into mindset. I mean, there's so many
- 18:44Speaker 2: things that impact mindset. So your diet, I mean, people
- 18:47Speaker 2: are eating so many processed foods. They have chemicals and dyes,
- 18:51Speaker 2: and that impacts your mood and the way you feel
- 18:53Speaker 2: about yourself. And the sugar and sugar has actually been
- 18:56Speaker 2: linked to instant resistance, link to depression if you know
- 19:00Speaker 2: the stats. But there are so many grade skilled school
- 19:02Speaker 2: children on antidepressants. I mean, it's ridiculous it's horrible. And
- 19:06Speaker 2: what they really need to do is like, you know,
- 19:09Speaker 2: quit the crappy diet and get outside and play, get
- 19:11Speaker 2: off their you know, tablets and things and go play.
- 19:14Speaker 2: And so what you listen to the news, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 2: the news media, the music that you listen to, the
- 19:19Speaker 2: people you have in your lives, and you become the
- 19:21Speaker 2: average of the five people that you hang out with.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:23Speaker 2: So we're so lucky that we've got secrets and healthcare
- 19:25Speaker 2: people and we try to hopefully I'm not dragging everybody down,
- 19:29Speaker 2: but I mean it's it's like, you know, you want to,
- 19:32Speaker 2: you know, surround yourself with positive people because you actually
- 19:35Speaker 2: pick up on those things. And then the prescription medications,
- 19:38Speaker 2: I mean those were horrible. Our son committed suicide a
- 19:40Speaker 2: couple of months ago, and so that's just been heartbreaking.
- 19:43Speaker 2: And when we went to his home and found prescription
- 19:45Speaker 2: medication ADHD medication, I immediately took a picture and send
- 19:49Speaker 2: it to Steve Hewlett and he sent me back. He's like,
- 19:52Speaker 2: he goes, I totally what happened. And he sent me
- 19:54Speaker 2: back four pages of side effects and he goes, look
- 19:55Speaker 2: at page four. So we looked at page four. Depression anxiety,
- 19:59Speaker 2: suicide thoughts. So people really need to protect their mind
- 20:03Speaker 2: and what they're putting in their body, the prescription medications,
- 20:06Speaker 2: all those things. So if I could save one family
- 20:08Speaker 2: from going through what we've gone through and save one life,
- 20:11Speaker 2: this is definitely worth it. So pay attention to what
- 20:13Speaker 2: you are putting in your body, in your mind, because
- 20:16Speaker 2: it makes a difference.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I was made aware of that, Debbie, and I'm so
- 20:24Speaker 1: all of us here.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Well, you know, you guys are so kind to reach out.
- 20:26Speaker 2: You know we're supposed to do this a few months ago,
- 20:28Speaker 2: but I really appreciate you having an infertationion ness out.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Just you have said that people don't stop playing because
- 20:35Speaker 1: they grow old, and I think that your lived example
- 20:39Speaker 1: is kind of you know, it's teaching us all something
- 20:42Speaker 1: about how important it is to take initiative and not
- 20:45Speaker 1: just sit on the couch and believe in daydream but
- 20:48Speaker 1: also to take action. You know, people don't stop playing
- 20:51Speaker 1: because they get old. They get old because they stop playing.
- 20:54Speaker 1: That's a Debbie Traeger. I mean, that's not me.
- 20:56Speaker 2: This is well actually I stole that from a Hallmark card.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I think, well, so I can't take credit for it, but.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I like the origins. It's very powerful, it is. What
- 21:05Speaker 1: do you think if somebody's watching this program that looks
- 21:07Speaker 1: like in everyday life, if they were to take something
- 21:10Speaker 1: from you today that would help maybe empower them to
- 21:14Speaker 1: take steps toward maybe pursuing that thing God has put
- 21:17Speaker 1: on their chest a decade ago. And they've created all
- 21:21Speaker 1: these reasons and limitations why they don't have the finances,
- 21:24Speaker 1: they're not going to have the time, blah blah blah blah,
- 21:27Speaker 1: and that's probably why ten years later nothing's happened. What
- 21:29Speaker 1: would you tell that person.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Well, I would just tell them just to think of
- 21:33Speaker 2: what you have to kind of like what's in it
- 21:35Speaker 2: for me?
- 21:36Speaker 3: Like what do I get out of this?
- 21:37Speaker 2: Because really there's a lot of work that goes into
- 21:40Speaker 2: like doing it something, So you have to say what.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Would that be for me?
- 21:43Speaker 2: Like people who are say diabetic, and fear doesn't usually
- 21:47Speaker 2: keep people from being healthy. It's kind of like, you know, diabetics,
- 21:51Speaker 2: they could lose their eyesight, they have their limbs cut off,
- 21:54Speaker 2: you know, amputated, right, but it usually doesn't defer people
- 21:56Speaker 2: from make them eat healthy. But what would you do
- 21:59Speaker 2: if you were the healthiest version of yourself that you
- 22:01Speaker 2: could do. What trips would you take? Would you spend
- 22:04Speaker 2: time with your grandchildren? Would you what things that have
- 22:07Speaker 2: you dreamed about that you want to do? And I
- 22:09Speaker 2: think people get old sometimes because they just quit dreaming
- 22:12Speaker 2: and they quit having fun. And so I would just
- 22:15Speaker 2: encourage everybody every day do something that you enjoy, whether
- 22:18Speaker 2: it's just for twenty minutes, whatever that joy is, and
- 22:21Speaker 2: for everybody it's different, Like give yourself time to go
- 22:24Speaker 2: have coffee with a friend, or read a book, or
- 22:26Speaker 2: spend time with your grandkids, whatever brings you joy, spend
- 22:29Speaker 2: some time every day doing it just for a few minutes.
- 22:32Speaker 2: You got to start where you are. If you only
- 22:33Speaker 2: got this much time, then do that, right.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I think that's a form of self care. And I
- 22:37Speaker 4: know for a lot of us parents too, we tend
- 22:39Speaker 4: to kind of sacrifice self care because we're too busy.
- 22:44Speaker 4: We have soccer practices to take our kids to, or
- 22:46Speaker 4: maybe we need to work a little bit extra to
- 22:48Speaker 4: get ahead at work, and we give these things up.
- 22:51Speaker 4: And so I know I can relate, Can you guys relate?
- 22:55Speaker 1: Well?
- 22:55Speaker 2: The thing is you can't give what you don't have, right,
- 22:57Speaker 2: and so it's kind of like your even your phone
- 22:59Speaker 2: has to be plugged in to get charged up, right,
- 23:02Speaker 2: So we have to take care of ourselves. Even on
- 23:04Speaker 2: the plane they say, pitt your oxygenmants on first, right,
- 23:07Speaker 2: So you've got to take care of your own self
- 23:09Speaker 2: before you can take care of anybody else.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Wow, that is so profound. And for me, what that
- 23:13Speaker 1: looked like is and this is something my wife had
- 23:15Speaker 1: to deal with me about for a long time. Is
- 23:17Speaker 1: I used to have like this never ending. I will
- 23:20Speaker 1: use the word guilt. I would struggle with telling anybody
- 23:23Speaker 1: now if I thought they had a need, whatever the need,
- 23:25Speaker 1: whatever the need, whether it be financial, physical, mental, whatever.
- 23:29Speaker 1: And so my life ended up being round the clock
- 23:32Speaker 1: twenty four seven. And I had kind of built in
- 23:35Speaker 1: this bank of people in a queue that now and
- 23:38Speaker 1: it's insurmountable. I've got like over two dozen now of
- 23:41Speaker 1: people that chronically and I'm not charging money for this.
- 23:43Speaker 1: It's not a practice. I kind of like unintentionally started
- 23:46Speaker 1: a practice on the side that was ministry. And it's
- 23:50Speaker 1: okay to do things sacrificially, it's okay to invest in others.
- 23:54Speaker 1: A lot of times, that's what it looks like. But
- 23:57Speaker 1: then what happens is my children don't have me, My
- 24:00Speaker 1: wife doesn't have me, my ministry doesn't fully have my attention.
- 24:05Speaker 1: There's things that now like you're going to trade one
- 24:07Speaker 1: thing for another, right, and so I'm giving, I'm giving,
- 24:10Speaker 1: I'm giving, I'm sending supplements. I'm not going to talk
- 24:13Speaker 1: about all the things, but it's very charitable. I keep
- 24:15Speaker 1: I keep I keep going, I keep going, I keep going,
- 24:17Speaker 1: and then pretty soon, like my well is a prune
- 24:21Speaker 1: in the Sahara desert without a drop of water in
- 24:23Speaker 1: the clouds, like it is burned to a cinderblock. So
- 24:27Speaker 1: there is balance in outputting, doing ministry things, caring for others,
- 24:32Speaker 1: and then having a healthy boundary. And it's been one
- 24:35Speaker 1: of the hardest I'm being honest, Debbie Tragger, it's one
- 24:38Speaker 1: of the hardest things I've had to start practicing. And
- 24:40Speaker 1: it's not perfect, but it's like for years and years
- 24:44Speaker 1: it was yeah, but they have a need. I had
- 24:46Speaker 1: to start realizing, yeah, but my own body is not
- 24:49Speaker 1: going to last. So all these people you're trying to
- 24:52Speaker 1: minister to, they're going to get you for about twenty
- 24:53Speaker 1: years less if you don't put up a healthy boundary
- 24:56Speaker 1: and say look that come wait, yes, I would love
- 24:58Speaker 1: to help you in your plight. Let me see what
- 25:00Speaker 1: I can do, but it has to come after my kids.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Like so my mom the other day, she was so
- 25:04Speaker 1: proud of me. You know what I did to make
- 25:06Speaker 1: my mom so proud and she's not here today. I
- 25:08Speaker 1: shut my phone off at five thirty. That may seem trivial,
- 25:11Speaker 1: but like for my mom to take receipt of her
- 25:14Speaker 1: son shut his phone off at five thirty. So anyway,
- 25:17Speaker 1: it's exactly as you say. And that is where you know,
- 25:19Speaker 1: sometimes you need a supernatural infusing when you are running
- 25:23Speaker 1: on fumes and you've set boundaries and you've said no
- 25:25Speaker 1: to as much as you can, just the pace of
- 25:28Speaker 1: life and having family members, sometimes it is a little
- 25:31Speaker 1: bit my cup is pretty dry and you need the
- 25:33Speaker 1: Holy Spirit to fill it back up. And that's why,
- 25:36Speaker 1: no matter how busy you are, no matter how much
- 25:38Speaker 1: you've got going on, you have to practice these quiet
- 25:42Speaker 1: moments where you give God a moment and you think
- 25:45Speaker 1: about his calling for your life. Try to just sit
- 25:48Speaker 1: and soak and what it would feel like, What would
- 25:51Speaker 1: that feel like, How do you imagine Him using you
- 25:53Speaker 1: in the future, and what would that experience be like?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Because it's going to refill the conference, is that right?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Right? Yeah, Well, I really imagine I really love speaking.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I would really love to speak to kids, teenagers and
- 26:05Speaker 2: to help them, you know, early on, to be able
- 26:08Speaker 2: to understand these mindset principles, to you know, start their
- 26:11Speaker 2: life out having being able to break through the fears
- 26:15Speaker 2: and things that keep them step because I really think
- 26:17Speaker 2: right now, there's an epidemic of suicide.
- 26:19Speaker 3: And even in.
- 26:21Speaker 2: The little town in Colorado Whereche into his life that weekend,
- 26:24Speaker 2: there were three other suicides that we can just in
- 26:26Speaker 2: that weekend, and even our own small town just a
- 26:29Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago there was another teenage suicide. I mean,
- 26:31Speaker 2: it's epidemic out there, and so there's a lot of
- 26:34Speaker 2: things that need to change, you know, to help these kids.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Maybe they're comparing themselves at Facebook or whatever. The things
- 26:40Speaker 2: are going on, is driving this or the medications or
- 26:43Speaker 2: the nutrition whatever, But that's my goal. I just want
- 26:46Speaker 2: to help people, you know, not lose their children to this.
- 26:53Speaker 1: We are almost out of time, Debbie, but if I
- 26:55Speaker 1: could give you another twenty thirty seconds, one last thing,
- 26:58Speaker 1: if somebody says to you, you know, but I'm the
- 27:01Speaker 1: ship is sailed the bus left the station. I'm too old.
- 27:04Speaker 1: What would you say to that person that is living
- 27:06Speaker 1: under the belief that they're too old to do the
- 27:08Speaker 1: thing that they want to do.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Well, if you think you are, then you're right.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I mean, you either think you are or if you
- 27:15Speaker 2: believe you can or you believe you can't, you're right.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I mean Ford said that, Henry Ford said that if
- 27:19Speaker 2: you believe you can, you believe you can't, you're right.
- 27:21Speaker 2: So what do you want to believe? I mean is
- 27:24Speaker 2: that If you're okay with that, then okay. I mean,
- 27:26Speaker 2: you can't make people do things right, So you get
- 27:29Speaker 2: to decide. If that's what you decide, then you know,
