- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's. Adam here.
- 0:41Now, if you've ever felt still emotionally attached to a
- 0:45relationship. Even after.
- 0:47The relationship has finished, you might get some value.
- 0:51From this session. And I was working with a.
- 0:53Client. That the relationship had
- 0:56physically ended more than a year before.
- 0:59But they spend a lot of time ruminating, wondering what if?
- 1:03What if they did something different?
- 1:05What if they handled situations in a different way and that was
- 1:09emotionally training. They would also see certain
- 1:13things that would remind them of them and that might be a name of
- 1:16someone in ATV show. That was their name and it would
- 1:20constantly trigger them into thinking of the past now.
- 1:25There is. A useful function of thinking
- 1:28about a past relationship and it isn't to punish you, and it
- 1:32isn't to blame you or shame you for any mistakes that you may
- 1:35have made in that relationship. The purpose is for you.
- 1:39To extract wisdom and insight from that relationship so that.
- 1:43You're able to. Change something in yourself so
- 1:48that you can invite possible better relationships that are
- 1:52more suited for you in the future.
- 1:56This client in particular felt that it wasn't even the most
- 2:02desirable relationship for them. They kind of entered it
- 2:04reluctantly and when they were in it, they then kind of felt,
- 2:09is this even right? They had doubts even in the
- 2:12relationship. It's only when it ended, they
- 2:14found that they were missing something.
- 2:17And that tells me and them that actually it wasn't this
- 2:22relationship that was such an important thing, just a
- 2:26relationship. All humans need intimacy,
- 2:29connection and love and that's what this client really needed.
- 2:33But if there is a feeling that you had something and lost it,
- 2:37it can feel like the one that got away, and that's where the
- 2:41rumination really starts from. So if you feel like that
- 2:44sometimes that you keep dwelling on a previous relationship and
- 2:48you're not in that relationship anymore, you might get some
- 2:51value from this. But be aware that this uses
- 2:55timeline and disassociation to dissect and observe a
- 2:59relationship and certain key moments.
- 3:02From this perspective of the client that I was working with,
- 3:05it is unlikely that this client's timeline of their
- 3:09relationship will match your relationship, and therefore I
- 3:13would invite you to utilize any broad themes of acceptance,
- 3:19detachment, moving on, and wisdom and discernment.
- 3:24These are broad themes. The actual specific details
- 3:27probably won't match your situation, so you can disregard
- 3:30those, but if you do like the idea of having a bespoke session
- 3:34with me, there'll be a link in the description and you can also
- 3:37find it on my website, adamcox.co.uk.
- 3:41And then you can book a free consultation call over Zoom.
- 3:44We'll have a chat and we might end up working together.
- 3:47For now though, in order to get the best from this session, I
- 3:50would encourage you to find a quiet, comfortable place, the
- 3:53kind of place that you're not going to be distracted or
- 3:56disturbed to relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:19Take a deep. Breath in, and as you breathe
- 4:24in, breathe in a feeling of relaxation.
- 4:29And as you exhale, allow your eyelids to close.
- 4:38And as they close, give yourself permission to relax.
- 4:46Breathing in relaxation and exhaling tension.
- 4:55Each breath takes you deeper and deeper.
- 5:01Relaxed. Your nervous system has been
- 5:07high alert, vigilant, on guard, a good reason to keep you safe.
- 5:17But what if the best way for you to become safe is to become
- 5:27wiser and more resourceful? So breathe in that resourceful
- 5:34relaxation and start to release any regrets, any sadness, any
- 5:45resentment, any frustration, breathing in optimism and
- 5:57exhaling any of those things that have been keeping you
- 6:04attached to the past. Breathing in what you need and
- 6:12exhaling those dark, heavy shadows that don't belong to you
- 6:20anymore. That's it.
- 6:25The deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 6:32And the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 6:43That's it. Eyelids getting heavier,
- 6:48breathing getting slower and deeper, arms and legs just
- 6:55feeling limp, loose and heavy. That's it.
- 6:59You're relaxing, loosening. Now give permission to let go.
- 7:09And sometimes when you let go, it feels like all of that
- 7:15pressure built up inside can be released, maybe slowly,
- 7:24gradually, like slowly letting the air out of a balloon.
- 7:32Or sometimes the balloon just pops and all of that emotion
- 7:37comes flooding out. There's no right or wrong way.
- 7:46I want you to get a feeling that humans are not robots, and
- 7:51that's OK. What makes us different is
- 7:57emotion. It's real authentic to feel real
- 8:06emotions and what can feel like a good idea to make those
- 8:17emotions not feel so intense is to build a barrier to protect
- 8:26you. And what can feel like a
- 8:30fortress can end up being a prison.
- 8:35And I want you to get a feeling, the feeling that you don't need
- 8:40to hide yourself away, hide behind a shell of analysis,
- 8:49professionalism. That it's OK to feel emotions,
- 8:59to feel sad if something didn't work out, to feel angry about a
- 9:08betrayal, to feel frustrated about a mistake.
- 9:12It's all real and natural. And what if what really protects
- 9:20you is not a shell and not a wall, but wisdom and
- 9:27discernment? I want you to imagine a
- 9:33staircase, the grand staircase, perhaps made of marble, going
- 9:42down down towards a corridor that leads to A room.
- 9:50Standing at the top of the staircase, I will count
- 9:53downwards from 12:50 and with each descending number you will
- 10:00feel deeper and deeper, relaxed, connecting to that place where
- 10:09change happens more easily. People think it takes years to
- 10:16change, but you've had a moment where just one idea changed your
- 10:21life. One thought led to a decision,
- 10:27and beyond that decision, your life was on a different
- 10:31trajectory. As you accept the idea that
- 10:36change can happen fast. 10 Take a first step down the staircase.
- 10:42Feeling more relaxed? 9 Another step down the
- 10:47staircase. Breathing deeper. 8 Feeling
- 10:54drowsy or perhaps sleepy now? Seven, Another step down the
- 10:59staircase, arms and legs feeling limp, loose and heavy as Seven
- 11:06becomes 6. Just drain any tension around
- 11:09your jaw, your neck and your shoulders.
- 11:13Feel it leave your body in your outward breath.
- 11:15There's Five halfway down the staircase now. 4 Feeling light,
- 11:22feeling deeper, drifting to that place deep within where change
- 11:28happens quickly. Four becomes 3 and you're
- 11:33getting to the end of that opulent, elegant staircase. 2
- 11:41Breathing in and breathing out, feeling that wonderful feeling
- 11:45of relaxation, feeling resourceful. 2 becomes one as
- 11:53you now leave the staircase and find yourself in that corridor.
- 12:00And in that corridor are doors that represent the past.
- 12:06These are distractions. Each door can lead you to
- 12:14ruminate, overthink, overanalyze.
- 12:20I should have done this. I could have done that.
- 12:23It's just an energy drain. So as you walk past those doors,
- 12:27just lock each one. There's a better way to extract
- 12:33value from the past than ruminating.
- 12:38And at the end of that corridor is a door that leads to your own
- 12:41private cinema. I will countdown from 5 to 1.
- 12:47You will imagine opening that door to your cinema, walking
- 12:52through and closing the door behind you, 5 putting your hand
- 12:58on the handle, 4 turning the handle, 3 opening the door, 2
- 13:03walking through the door and one closing the door behind you.
- 13:10As you're now in your own private cinema, no one else is
- 13:13there. Find the most comfortable chair
- 13:18and see a big screen. Imagine the curtains open and
- 13:25you get to see yourself like an actor on the screen.
- 13:33This is a movie about a relationship, not because that
- 13:45relationship was meant to be, but anytime your brain takes you
- 13:51back to a memory, it's because there is more value to extract.
- 14:00Most people don't extract the value.
- 14:04They dwell, they replay, and this time is different.
- 14:12I want you to imagine seeing the opening scene, and the opening
- 14:19scene is a relationship from way back that instead of just
- 14:29fizzling out, I want you to see that version of you, perhaps
- 14:35from six years ago, or more clearly ending a relationship
- 14:45that just wasn't working. Maybe it's an unambiguous text
- 14:51message, maybe it's one final phone call, maybe it's something
- 14:57else. But the scene opens with you
- 15:02drawing a line in the sand where you end an unfulfilling,
- 15:09ambiguous relationship. And if you can see yourself
- 15:13doing that, let me know by nodding your head.
- 15:18That's it. And then just imagine seeing
- 15:23yourself in summer in a workplace, seeing someone,
- 15:31someone you worked with. Maybe there was a few encounters
- 15:37that then led to social encounters.
- 15:42You're not in your body, you're just observing that character on
- 15:47a screen. And I want you to notice that
- 15:51there wasn't any love at first sight, no instant attraction.
- 16:06There was just noticing. And noticing led to spending
- 16:12time and over a few months there was a a few meetings and then I
- 16:22want you to see see yourself perhaps looking surprised, maybe
- 16:30even shocked when they initiated something to turn getting to
- 16:39know each other into a relationship.
- 16:42Just observe it and notice how that version of you wasn't
- 16:50immediately thrilled with what happened.
- 16:55Consider this evidence. Evidence perhaps, that this
- 17:04wasn't the relationship. This wasn't the person.
- 17:10It was just a relationship and a person.
- 17:17But what you can observe in yourself is that you valued
- 17:21something in this interaction. Maybe companionship, maybe
- 17:28connection, maybe closeness, even intimacy.
- 17:34You valued something, but not necessarily because it was that
- 17:40person. It's the thing you valued, not
- 17:47the individual. I want you to see that there was
- 17:51a point, perhaps weeks and months after that looks like you
- 17:57gave in. You succumbed to advances, you
- 18:02accepted the interest, and maybe it felt like you were giving
- 18:07your permission to yourself to let your guard down.
- 18:14And maybe that guard was up because you've been hurt in the
- 18:17past. You were cautious and noticed
- 18:24that when you finally let that guard down, when you accepted,
- 18:33there was more connection. Maybe daily messages, regular
- 18:39conversations, time spent together.
- 18:43And as you observe yourself on screen, maybe you're smiling
- 18:46more, maybe happier, maybe there's a spring in your step.
- 18:54But the wisdom to extract is that these things, connection,
- 19:02closeness, companionship, are important to you.
- 19:08Not necessarily the person they were coming from, but the things
- 19:13themself are things you value. I want you to see how it
- 19:23evolved. Maybe that version of you gone
- 19:29cautious, protective, had heard stories, heard about adventures,
- 19:39and at some point thought that you may be just one in a long
- 19:45line and notice that the guard went up again.
- 19:53There was a period of time without vulnerability and
- 20:00acceptance led to connection, but then something within you
- 20:05tried to keep you safe and maybe it LED you to being more
- 20:11cautious. Maybe fears and insecurities
- 20:19became more prevalent. Maybe.
- 20:25Maybe what you heard from other people was changing your own
- 20:29perceptions. But just see it on screen like
- 20:32you're seeing a character change.
- 20:40I want you to imagine observing something that felt like it
- 20:44could be evidence of your fears. And whether it was or it wasn't,
- 20:52it gave you a narrative, a role, and maybe, maybe trust had
- 21:04become diluted in you. And when someone's defensive,
- 21:11it's difficult to be open and vulnerable.
- 21:18See the thing that made it change?
- 21:23Take a different course. Not as good or bad, not as right
- 21:29or wrong, not as you did something wrong, but just as a
- 21:33way of extracting wisdom from that moment.
- 21:42Some people find people guilty until they prove themselves to
- 21:48be innocent, whereas others assume that there is innocence
- 21:54until irrefutable evidence of their guilt.
- 21:59No right or wrong, just different strategies.
- 22:03And figure out, knowing what you now know, what might be a more
- 22:08useful strategy for you. You're becoming wiser as the
- 22:15observer. I want you to see how not long
- 22:21after, things started to fizzle out and that version of you
- 22:28accepted that. But let's introduce a new
- 22:33version of you. A version of you that doesn't
- 22:37play that game is not waiting for someone else to take the
- 22:43initiative to be proactive. I want you to see a version of
- 22:51you that if a relationship isn't as you want it to be, and if you
- 22:59can't get it to that level, then you see yourself ending that
- 23:07relationship. You might see yourself doing
- 23:11that in a face to face interaction, maybe a phone call,
- 23:19maybe a message, maybe even an e-mail.
- 23:24But see yourself clearly communicating your needs,
- 23:30expressing what you need in a relationship.
- 23:34And if that can't be met, then you don't want it.
- 23:41No ambiguity, no fizzling out. It's either exactly what you
- 23:47want or you don't want it anymore.
- 23:53And at that point, I want you to see that version of you letting
- 23:59go. Sometimes people become
- 24:05attached, not to an attack, an actual relationship, but the
- 24:10idea of 1. And I want you to get a sense
- 24:16that to be empowered is to see it for what it actually is and
- 24:22act in accordance with that. And if you can see yourself
- 24:30valuing some of what you had in that relationship without it
- 24:36needing to be that individual that meets those needs, if you
- 24:41can imagine yourself ending it on your terms, let me know by
- 24:48nodding your head. That's it.
- 24:55I want you to feel that. Perhaps for months or even years
- 24:58now, you've not been attached to a relationship.
- 25:04You've been attached to an idea of a relationship, of what could
- 25:12have been, may have been, if many things were different,
- 25:18without any guarantee that that was real or true or possible.
- 25:25That's all you're letting go of. The relationship ended all of
- 25:34that time ago. The only thing you haven't let
- 25:38go of yet is what it could have been, without any guarantee that
- 25:49that was true. And if your unconscious is now
- 25:53willing to let go of the idea, not just the reality.
- 26:04And I want you to feel a weight being lifted from your
- 26:07shoulders, any kind of physical pressure around your chest, your
- 26:14gut expanding. And when you notice the physical
- 26:19changes, let me know by nodding your head, because that is
- 26:23evidence of letting go. I want you to allow your
- 26:47unconscious to do it in its own time.
- 26:52And the reason why your unconscious doesn't want to let
- 26:58go is because you value those things in the ideal relationship
- 27:09in your future. There is a fear that if you let
- 27:14go of this idea, you'll never get it back, but that's not
- 27:20true. When you let go of the idea, the
- 27:25wishful thinking, the fantasy, it opens the door to all of
- 27:32those things you really value in your future.
- 27:38If someone was to offer you a trade, you can trade your
- 27:43drawing of a car for a real car, a picture of a house for a real
- 27:51house. Would you be willing to trade
- 27:54something imaginary for something real?
- 28:02And if your unconscious agrees that something real is worth
- 28:06more than something that is just an idea, let me know by nodding
- 28:11your head. That's it.
- 28:17And now something changes on that screen.
- 28:22I want you to see that version of you working on yourself,
- 28:30giving the love that you're willing to give to someone else
- 28:33to yourself. Taking yourself to nice places,
- 28:40buying yourself nice things, even eating well.
- 28:48Exercising is a gift from yourself to yourself.
- 28:53I want you to see a period of self love.
- 28:58You are treating yourself the way you would want to be treated
- 29:04in the ideal relationship. Compliments, affection, acts of
- 29:16thoughtfulness, consideration. I want you to see that version
- 29:23of you blossoming, developing, evolving positively.
- 29:32See yourself smiling more. See yourself with a spring in
- 29:39your step, enthusiasm, open to a relationship without needing
- 29:45one, and all of those things you really value, you are open to if
- 30:00if they fit with what really connects with you.
- 30:06I want you to see yourself in the future, perhaps going on
- 30:12dates. See yourself responding, but
- 30:20only positively, to those that are interested in you and you
- 30:26have a shared interest in them. I want you to see yourself with
- 30:34more trust, optimism. I want you to see that version
- 30:43of you applying all the lessons you learned in that previous
- 30:49relationship into a possible new one.
- 30:56Being open to something just means you're giving permission
- 31:03to give happiness to your future self.
- 31:10And if you could imagine that future version of you, it seems
- 31:14to have been enhanced, progressed, evolved because of
- 31:21your past and not hindered by it.
- 31:24Let me know by nodding your head.
- 31:29That's it. Maybe that was the whole point.
- 31:35Why would your unconscious have you replay and notice something
- 31:39again and again? You thought it was because it
- 31:44was that person and it never was.
- 31:49It's a good relationship, Connection, intimacy, love,
- 31:56That's what your unconscious has been trying to steer you
- 31:59towards. And not by looking backwards,
- 32:05but by first giving it to yourself and then being open to
- 32:11giving it to someone else as they reciprocate with you.
- 32:17This has always been about your future, You only thought it was
- 32:23about your past. I want you to see yourself as
- 32:30someone that you would want today, you would want to spend
- 32:36time with. You would want to have moments
- 32:44with them because the more you like, love and connect with
- 32:55yourself, the more you're training your brain as to what
- 33:01is that threshold of which you can value it from someone else.
- 33:08But if you've been starving yourself of love and affection,
- 33:15you will settle for scraps from someone else, knowing deep down
- 33:21you deserve so much more. And the end of this movie?
- 33:29Perhaps see yourself 234 years from now in a happy
- 33:35relationship. See yourself smiling and looking
- 33:41loved and loving. Because it has to be both.
- 33:50It's not just what you receive, it's what you give to see that
- 33:54loving and loved version of you and connect with that wonderful
- 34:03knowledge that that is what you deserve.
- 34:07That's it. It's not time to leave this
- 34:11cinema, but you leave with a sense of the past is the past
- 34:15and any further thoughts about the past is not to ruminate,
- 34:20it's just to extract more wisdom and to prompt you to do
- 34:25something nice for yourself. As soon as you leave the cinema
- 34:31and walk through your door and see all those locked doors in
- 34:35the corridor and you start to walk up that staircase made of
- 34:44marble, yourself reaching back into your conscious mind as very
- 34:49soon I count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you, take a deep
- 34:55breath in through your nose and out through your nose.
- 35:03Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, connect and calibrate into
- 35:09the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 35:14awaken you. Starting to count 123.
- 35:18Waking up 456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes, open your eyes,
- 35:27910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 35:31awake. Thank you so much for joining me
