- 0:12Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, and welcome to another edition of Mic Drop
- 0:17Speaker 1: Comedy's podcast, the Chandler edition. I am your host for
- 0:23Speaker 1: this podcast. I'm Sari Beliak, and I'm very excited for
- 0:27Speaker 1: our guest this week joining us. multi-talented. This girl has
- 0:34Speaker 1: all of the hyphens in her name, all of her
- 0:37Speaker 1: many talents. I'm very excited. We have Bernice Yeh here.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Thank you so much for having me.
- 0:45Speaker 1: We're so excited that you're here. Before we started recording,
- 0:50Speaker 1: we were talking, we were just going to do like
- 0:52Speaker 1: a beauty and style podcast, forget all of the comedy stuff.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And just, we were going to get some beauty tips
- 0:59Speaker 1: and fashion tips from you.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Let's go. Well, no one actually asked me. So yeah,
- 1:05Speaker 2: if this ever going to be a beauty podcast, this
- 1:08Speaker 2: is it.
- 1:09Speaker 1: So yeah, Nick, our sound engineer was like, your makeup
- 1:13Speaker 1: looks great. Your hair looks great. I was like, let's
- 1:16Speaker 1: just for the next half hour, we can just compliment
- 1:19Speaker 1: each other and learn some beauty tips. I get one
- 1:22Speaker 1: thing from following you on social media. I'm like, she
- 1:25Speaker 1: has really good style.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:31Speaker 1: But more so than that, you are not just a comedian,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you are a rapper and a dancer. And what else?
- 1:41Speaker 1: You're a martial artist. Do you sleep ever, Bernice?
- 1:48Speaker 2: My aura ring yelled at me last night. It's like
- 1:50Speaker 2: my sleep score is a 62 and it's very low.
- 1:55Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm getting my black belt test in Taekwondo
- 1:59Speaker 2: on Saturday.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I saw that.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah. So I hope to get some sleep after that.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So what is, what is that testing process like?
- 2:09Speaker 2: You know, actually they don't tell us. So every belt
- 2:13Speaker 2: level promotion test, they will test you, but they never
- 2:18Speaker 2: test the technique and stuff until they first exhaust you first.
- 2:23Speaker 2: So they will do very intense cardio. And I just,
- 2:27Speaker 2: so what I was told is, the black belt has
- 2:31Speaker 2: the first half is to men to break you physically
- 2:34Speaker 2: and mentally. They will just test until you, most people
- 2:38Speaker 2: throw up. That's, that's basically, I think what they told us,
- 2:42Speaker 2: like they will push you until the point that you
- 2:44Speaker 2: cannot go on. You want to give up, but you
- 2:46Speaker 2: don't give up. Once you are done with that, then
- 2:49Speaker 2: the tester technique. So now you've got to do your
- 2:52Speaker 2: kicks and you have to do your forms. You have
- 2:54Speaker 2: to break your board. Um, and that is apparently actually
- 2:57Speaker 2: the easy part, but I get it now is more
- 2:59Speaker 2: about your technique should be so you're so proficient at it. Uh,
- 3:05Speaker 2: even though you're so exhausted, you can still execute. Yes. Wow.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So how, how long is it like several hours that
- 3:14Speaker 1: this class, do you know any of those details?
- 3:17Speaker 2: You know, I don't know, but I think, uh, there
- 3:20Speaker 2: will be a few people to test with me. So
- 3:22Speaker 2: the whole process might take, um, between one to two hours. Wow.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So you're, you're got this coming up. And then after that,
- 3:31Speaker 1: you're going to just like hop on a plane and
- 3:33Speaker 1: come do some comedy.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm so excited. That's like literally new year, new me, right?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Cause we just entered the year of the fire horse.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I can feel the energy is already very, very different.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Like there's just a lot of momentum. I have more
- 3:48Speaker 2: energy and come in. I'm like, Hey, hey Chandler, hey
- 3:53Speaker 2: San Diego, I.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Am a black belt, okay? I saw on your Instagram
- 3:59Speaker 1: that you were talking a lot about the Chinese New
- 4:01Speaker 1: Year and you were like, these are very like auspicious dates, like,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know, six and eight, the days you're performing, these
- 4:07Speaker 1: are good numbers. It's like for joy and unexpected blessings.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I was like, yes, we need some of that good energy.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And what's even better, I just learned, and this is
- 4:17Speaker 2: something new to me as well. So apparently- The first
- 4:22Speaker 2: 15 days following the Chinese New Year are very important.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And between, I think, day eight to like 14. So
- 4:33Speaker 2: this many days is like supposed to be community day.
- 4:37Speaker 2: And you're supposed to come out, celebrate with the people and,
- 4:41Speaker 2: you know, with good vibes and be surrounded with a
- 4:45Speaker 2: group of people. And that like 26 and 28 falls
- 4:48Speaker 2: in within that.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I love that.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I love this is this is perfect timing and a
- 4:54Speaker 1: lot aligning with your it's Taekwondo, right? That you do?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I wasn't making like all the superstitious or
- 5:03Speaker 2: the woo woo stuff. It's like, I just like what
- 5:06Speaker 2: if he serves me, I believe in it. Yeah, it
- 5:09Speaker 2: doesn't I just forget about it.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's the way to do it's like,
- 5:14Speaker 1: take what you need and leave the rest.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Can you tell us a little bit about your start
- 5:20Speaker 1: in comedy and how you came to be the multi
- 5:23Speaker 1: hyphenate talent that you are today?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, totally. Because like, really, for me, comedy and stand
- 5:31Speaker 2: up comedy, I never ever thought about it. Because growing
- 5:35Speaker 2: up in China, it's just not even an art form
- 5:38Speaker 2: that I am aware of. And I came to America,
- 5:43Speaker 2: you know, finally worked my way. I went to school.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I went to work in tech for like, I think
- 5:49Speaker 2: a good 10 years before I even ever think about comedy.
- 5:54Speaker 2: But at a time when I was working at a Hulu,
- 5:56Speaker 2: I was promoted to be a manager and I, oftentimes
- 6:00Speaker 2: I need to give my team some sort of speech.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And I just found there is a weird feeling that
- 6:07Speaker 2: I have this versatile feeling that it just feels gross
- 6:11Speaker 2: when I'm trying to compliment other people. Isn't that crazy?
- 6:15Speaker 2: Just saying good things is hard. That's part of being Chinese,
- 6:17Speaker 2: I guess. And so I actually have to work with
- 6:24Speaker 2: an executive coach trying to teach me And we actually
- 6:28Speaker 2: dived deep into the reason why is when I was
- 6:31Speaker 2: a kid, my mom always brought me to her work lunch.
- 6:35Speaker 2: And I'm like put on a spot to give a
- 6:37Speaker 2: toast to all these uncles and aunties. I don't care.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I hate being there. So I will intentionally say something
- 6:44Speaker 2: not good to stop a lunch. And then my mom
- 6:48Speaker 2: will shame me in front of everyone. Say, oh, she
- 6:50Speaker 2: is good with school, but she's very terrible at public speaking.
- 6:55Speaker 2: She's terrible at this. So every time I say something
- 6:59Speaker 2: positive in front of a group of people, I just
- 7:01Speaker 2: have like this association.
- 7:04Speaker 1: That's so interesting. Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 2: But then like, that's when, when I work with the coach,
- 7:09Speaker 2: we realized maybe I'm just being very honest and it's
- 7:12Speaker 2: not that I'm bad at it. Just, I didn't want
- 7:14Speaker 2: to be there. So she pointed me to do Toastmasters.
- 7:18Speaker 2: You know, the public speaking thing. I went there, I said, okay,
- 7:22Speaker 2: you know what? I'm going to challenge myself. So every
- 7:25Speaker 2: time they have this, uh, spontaneous improv, three minutes, uh,
- 7:30Speaker 2: humorous speech. And I just go and I'm like, I
- 7:34Speaker 2: won every time. And I look at around like a
- 7:36Speaker 2: room full of native speakers. I'm just like barely English.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I'm not, I'm still struggling with some of the English,
- 7:42Speaker 2: but I just, yeah. So it was okay. Maybe there
- 7:46Speaker 2: is something. Um, so one year I made a new
- 7:49Speaker 2: year's resolution, you know, this year, I just want to try,
- 7:52Speaker 2: go to open mic, just try comedy. And because, I
- 7:56Speaker 2: told people, and they said, oh, you should take this class.
- 7:59Speaker 2: So one thing leads to another. I took the class.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I had a great set. People said, you should keep
- 8:04Speaker 2: on doing this. And they got me into festivals. And
- 8:08Speaker 2: here we are. Wow.
- 8:10Speaker 1: That's all from not... what was not wanting to give
- 8:15Speaker 1: compliments or to do these jokes.
- 8:19Speaker 2: It's like, I was just like, I was terrible at
- 8:21Speaker 2: giving compliments. And then like Chinese people, we also are
- 8:24Speaker 2: bad at receiving compliments. Every time people compliment something like
- 8:28Speaker 2: the old me, The old me, if you say, Bernice,
- 8:31Speaker 2: you have nice style.
- 8:33Speaker 2: This is cheap stuff.
- 8:36Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I will be like this. That's so funny.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And then that's how we started our conversation. I was
- 8:42Speaker 1: just like, I'm so excited to talk to you because
- 8:43Speaker 1: your style is so great. And you love fun earrings
- 8:46Speaker 1: like I do.
- 8:48Speaker 2: So that's why I made a point to myself. You know,
- 8:52Speaker 2: when people compliment you, just own it and say thank you.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Yeah. I feel like that's also like a very female trait.
- 8:58Speaker 1: You know, it's like you don't want to be seen
- 9:00Speaker 1: as like conceited or anything. So just be like, oh, no, no.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Like this old thing. Like, no. And things like that.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yes, exactly. So I think comedy does force me to
- 9:15Speaker 2: work on my person. You know, I cannot dodge like
- 9:20Speaker 2: working in tech. it's so easy to just avoid some
- 9:25Speaker 2: of the personal growth, like deep down, but a comedy,
- 9:27Speaker 2: you just have to face it naked.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Wow. That's really interesting. One of the interviews that I read,
- 9:34Speaker 1: like in researching for this podcast, you, you shared this
- 9:38Speaker 1: interesting story. I think it was from like a showcase
- 9:40Speaker 1: that you had done at a club. Like you'd had
- 9:44Speaker 1: a really good set before, and then you had one
- 9:47Speaker 1: that didn't go as well. And I love, like you
- 9:50Speaker 1: talked about in this interview that it was like a
- 9:52Speaker 1: time of like reflection and like self-improvement and like thinking
- 9:56Speaker 1: about your perspective. I feel like not a lot of, comics,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know, they'd be like, let's blame the audience or,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you know, they don't get me, but I, do you
- 10:06Speaker 1: know which interview I'm talking about or which showcase? I
- 10:09Speaker 1: think it was like Nate Jackson. Does that sound right?
- 10:14Speaker 2: I mean, that showcase is not only just self-improvement, personal
- 10:18Speaker 2: growth it got me to believe in god.
- 10:24Speaker 1: A bad set helped you find god and.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah yeah oh my god i just i don't know
- 10:31Speaker 2: what to do i have to pray and then i
- 10:34Speaker 2: made a promise you know if i if i kill
- 10:37Speaker 2: then i will go to church and because i'm chinese
- 10:39Speaker 2: i'm superstitious and i killed And so I was like,
- 10:43Speaker 2: I told my husband and like, find me a church.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I have to go. I don't care which one, just
- 10:48Speaker 2: find me one that's not crazy. Like I need to
- 10:50Speaker 2: go to church.
- 10:52Speaker 1: That's so interesting. I loved hearing that because, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 1: a lot of comics, it's very easy to have a
- 10:58Speaker 1: really bad set and just be like, well, you know,
- 11:00Speaker 1: they don't get me. They don't understand my artistic genius
- 11:05Speaker 1: or whatever. And in reading that article, I was like,
- 11:08Speaker 1: that's so interesting that you were just like, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: had gone from like, probably I'm in air quotes, like
- 11:15Speaker 1: beginner's luck, like, wow, this is my thing. And then like,
- 11:18Speaker 1: Oh wait, this actually is harder than I thought it
- 11:20Speaker 1: was going to be, but taking it as an opportunity
- 11:23Speaker 1: to like, okay, what, how do I do this really well? Like,
- 11:27Speaker 1: what is this? Like the result, like resilience. Yeah.
- 11:33Speaker 2: And then I think the more I do it, the
- 11:36Speaker 2: more I feel like what a privilege because I Think
- 11:40Speaker 2: about it right now. People's attention is so short. Like
- 11:45Speaker 2: we're always on our cell phone. And then like, even,
- 11:49Speaker 2: even you put a video on social media, you know,
- 11:51Speaker 2: if you don't grab people for the first three seconds,
- 11:53Speaker 2: people just throw scroll away. And what a privilege to
- 11:57Speaker 2: have people come out and see you. They see you
- 12:00Speaker 2: for 20 minutes. I interrupted the attention an hour. Wow.
- 12:04Speaker 2: That's like, I just cannot blame that to the audience.
- 12:08Speaker 2: They come out. And it's up for me to bring
- 12:12Speaker 2: joy for them. And time is hard, you know? And
- 12:15Speaker 2: so like all these people come out and they deserve
- 12:18Speaker 2: joy and deserve break. And here, I'm here customer service,
- 12:23Speaker 2: you know?
- 12:24Speaker 1: I love that. Was your family supportive? Like, what was
- 12:29Speaker 1: it like? Cause I, in reading a little bit more
- 12:32Speaker 1: about your background, I saw you have a master's degree
- 12:34Speaker 1: in computer science.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Brag um when you were like hey family I'm gonna
- 12:41Speaker 1: do uh some stand-up comedy what were they like girl
- 12:45Speaker 1: you lost your damn mind like what was the response
- 12:47Speaker 1: to that I.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Know it's so crazy I think the okay is it
- 12:52Speaker 2: it's actually good they are in China so like for
- 12:55Speaker 2: example I think I broke their heart first when I
- 12:59Speaker 2: left Microsoft to a startup because for people in China
- 13:05Speaker 2: like Microsoft Like parents, like they were like, that's the
- 13:09Speaker 2: ultimate brag. Everybody knows about Microsoft, right? It's all my,
- 13:14Speaker 2: my daughter works here. You know, I also went to
- 13:17Speaker 2: Peking University, which is a Harvard of China. So like
- 13:19Speaker 2: they have been just being able to brag. And when
- 13:22Speaker 2: I went to a startup, that's when I broke their heart.
- 13:26Speaker 2: They were like, what? What is this company?
- 13:28Speaker 1: What are you going to do?
- 13:30Speaker 2: And so then I think it just, I started to
- 13:32Speaker 2: go downhill from there. I went to another startup and then,
- 13:36Speaker 2: but then I went to Hulu, but they don't know
- 13:38Speaker 2: about Hulu, you know, even though it's a legit job.
- 13:40Speaker 2: They're like, what is Hulu? Hulu.
- 13:42Speaker 1: And I'm sure everybody was like, you got a job
- 13:45Speaker 1: at Hulu?
- 13:46Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:49Speaker 2: So they were not impressed with Hulu. And that's really
- 13:52Speaker 2: who translate to Chinese is a Hulu is basically a gout.
- 13:57Speaker 2: It's a squash squash company. So but then when I
- 14:04Speaker 2: quit for stand up, I think there's two things. My
- 14:10Speaker 2: parents are actually when I when I talking my jokes
- 14:14Speaker 2: and that they are very progressive, they are actually very progressive.
- 14:18Speaker 2: And through my life, they have supported me with many
- 14:22Speaker 2: unconventional decisions. And so when I tell them with confidence
- 14:29Speaker 2: and certainty, it's like, I'm going to do this and
- 14:32Speaker 2: I know it's right. They have learned to trust me
- 14:35Speaker 2: because it had always worked out no matter how controversial
- 14:39Speaker 2: it is. For example, I quit high school right before
- 14:46Speaker 2: my college entrance exam, but I got into the best university.
- 14:49Speaker 2: So like they have gone through some crazy shit with me.
- 14:55Speaker 2: That's number one. But second is like, now my parents
- 14:58Speaker 2: are actually very supportive with my comedy. Um, also because
- 15:03Speaker 2: standup comedy is a hot in China now is crazy
- 15:07Speaker 2: because it's new. There's like not much going on before
- 15:11Speaker 2: we don't even know about this. And all of a
- 15:13Speaker 2: sudden they start to have like, um, Okay, this is interesting, right?
- 15:17Speaker 2: Because if everybody start about the same time, it's new everywhere.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Nobody's going to have more than five years more experience
- 15:26Speaker 2: than you. Everybody have maybe two years in, three years in,
- 15:29Speaker 2: but there's TV opportunities. And so all these parents or
- 15:33Speaker 2: grandparents see, oh, their kids have like valid, legit career
- 15:38Speaker 2: path doing comedy. being on TV, getting brand sponsorship, making
- 15:43Speaker 2: real money. So when I go to China, whenever I
- 15:46Speaker 2: tell people I do stand-up comedy, people, oh, that is
- 15:48Speaker 2: so cool. And people pay money to see comedy. Isn't
- 15:52Speaker 2: that crazy? Like they pay money to see open mic.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I was like, wow, I'm in the wrong country.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Isn't that funny that there are places, I know I
- 16:03Speaker 1: briefly lived in Chicago and there was an open mic
- 16:05Speaker 1: that I think people would pay to go to. And
- 16:07Speaker 1: then it was regular people, not just comics that would
- 16:11Speaker 1: show up. And I was like, wait, you guys enjoy this?
- 16:14Speaker 1: This is like torture. Uncharted material, untested. And they're like, no,
- 16:22Speaker 1: this is so fun. We just came to laugh.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's when I started in Seattle,
- 16:28Speaker 2: there are Plenty of open mics. All the open mics
- 16:31Speaker 2: I went to, they have real audience, but there are
- 16:33Speaker 2: also plenty of them that audience actually pay to see it.
- 16:37Speaker 2: And sometimes I get paid being on the open mic. Wow.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Put that word out. We need more of that to happen.
- 16:46Speaker 1: That's a rare find. So you started in Seattle?
- 16:51Speaker 2: I started in Seattle.
- 16:54Speaker 1: And then moved out to Los Angeles?
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I moved here three years ago. Okay.
- 16:59Speaker 1: And what differences or what things did you notice maybe
- 17:03Speaker 1: from crowds or from other comics? What were some big
- 17:07Speaker 1: surprises to you in moving to LA?
- 17:10Speaker 2: I would say, let me talk about the difference first.
- 17:14Speaker 2: The difference, because I think in Seattle, the community is
- 17:17Speaker 2: a lot smaller. And I feel like people probably hold
- 17:23Speaker 2: a certain criteria or more judgmental. For example, if you
- 17:29Speaker 2: bomb at a mic, then people say, oh, she's not funny.
- 17:33Speaker 2: But in LA, when you bomb at a mic, people
- 17:37Speaker 2: will say, oh, you're probably trying something new. Like you
- 17:39Speaker 2: can do a lot of more crazy, experimental, creative stuff.
- 17:45Speaker 2: And people will just say, they're less judgmental about it.
- 17:48Speaker 2: They have more open mind because I think everyone here
- 17:50Speaker 2: is always trying to push the boundary, take bigger risks.
- 17:55Speaker 2: And so we understand what the grind is like, you know,
- 17:57Speaker 2: and we understand if you always doing the same thing,
- 18:02Speaker 2: you're playing too safe, right? So I feel like this
- 18:05Speaker 2: is a place, the playground is bigger. You are constantly
- 18:09Speaker 2: being inspired by the best of the world and you
- 18:12Speaker 2: are constantly humbled by how far away you are from them.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And so we just see this wild range and I
- 18:20Speaker 2: challenge myself more. For example, before I moved to LA,
- 18:25Speaker 2: I never thought about I would do any rap, like
- 18:28Speaker 2: comedy rap. If I do that, people probably in Seattle
- 18:32Speaker 2: will laugh at me. Oh my God, cringe. What is
- 18:34Speaker 2: this thing? You know, but because now I say, hey,
- 18:37Speaker 2: why not? And I'm able to meet talents that everybody
- 18:41Speaker 2: are multi-talented. You know, I met... a friend in my
- 18:45Speaker 2: acting class who is also a rapper. And then when
- 18:48Speaker 2: I share my goal, then my friend Cole, Cole Connor,
- 18:52Speaker 2: he said, maybe I can help you. That's when we
- 18:54Speaker 2: start to collaborate and open the floodgate of me start rapping.
- 18:59Speaker 1: And that's the, they're a comic as well. Is that right?
- 19:03Speaker 2: Cole? Oh, he's not even a comic. Yeah. Cole is
- 19:07Speaker 2: an actor. We met in acting class and he's a rapper.
- 19:11Speaker 1: And that's who you, you guys collaborated on the Asian
- 19:14Speaker 1: chicken salad. Is that right? Can you talk about that
- 19:18Speaker 1: a little bit? If for anybody who hasn't seen it,
- 19:20Speaker 1: hopefully they'll check it out after this podcast, but can
- 19:23Speaker 1: you talk a little bit about that video? Cause it
- 19:26Speaker 1: is so much fun.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Oh, thank you. Thank you. Yeah. The Asian chicken salad.
- 19:30Speaker 2: It actually all started. It's true story. Cause during COVID
- 19:36Speaker 2: I moved to rural Washington and then my neighbors, they're,
- 19:40Speaker 2: Very nice. But then they, you know, like literally on
- 19:44Speaker 2: this island, probably there's like 20 Asian people, you know?
- 19:49Speaker 2: And so they they invite me to a potluck, a
- 19:52Speaker 2: neighborhood potluck. And they assigned me an Asian chicken salad. Yeah.
- 19:57Speaker 2: So so this is a pretty crazy story. I start
- 20:00Speaker 2: to tell stand up, stand up a bit. And wherever
- 20:05Speaker 2: I go, people love this joke. So it become one
- 20:07Speaker 2: of the best hits and, um, it's universal. So I
- 20:10Speaker 2: tell it a lot to a point at some point,
- 20:13Speaker 2: I'm just tired. I'm tired of the jokes.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Um, yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And I think also I'm like earlier in my comedy
- 20:20Speaker 2: career that, um, I haven't like, I'm just at a
- 20:24Speaker 2: point that when you tell a joke over and over again,
- 20:26Speaker 2: you just get really tired. So one day when I
- 20:29Speaker 2: was just traveling on a road trip, um, Michael Moore's
- 20:34Speaker 2: downtown is a plane. There's a beat. I start dancing.
- 20:38Speaker 2: And I just start to tell my jokes to the bit.
- 20:41Speaker 2: And I was like, Asian chicken salad. And then I
- 20:44Speaker 2: was like, why can't I just rap to it? That
- 20:46Speaker 2: would be so fun. I record a video I sent
- 20:48Speaker 2: to my friends and they were like, Bernice, this does
- 20:52Speaker 2: not look good. So I kind of just shelved that idea,
- 20:58Speaker 2: put it away. But when, like, I don't know, when
- 21:02Speaker 2: I moved to LA, when you're, again, New Year's resolution,
- 21:06Speaker 2: I was just sharing like New Year's goal with my
- 21:10Speaker 2: friends and Nicole was there, right? So we exchanged the
- 21:13Speaker 2: goals and I mentioned, I just want to kind of
- 21:16Speaker 2: dance and do music, add that to my comedy. And
- 21:19Speaker 2: that's how this whole idea come along. Yeah, so I
- 21:23Speaker 2: turned a joke into the rap. And we also said, hey,
- 21:28Speaker 2: we can shoot a music video. And we still didn't
- 21:31Speaker 2: have the resource, but I just start to tell people
- 21:34Speaker 2: I love music. telling people my goal out loud because
- 21:39Speaker 2: sometimes universe sends you the right people to help you
- 21:43Speaker 2: implement that. Yeah. And one of my fan from Instagram,
- 21:47Speaker 2: we became friends, but he's also a very talented, very creative,
- 21:52Speaker 2: like videographer, DP director. So he helped me directed and
- 21:58Speaker 2: then also shoot and also edited Asian chicken salad music video.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's awesome. It looks like a legit music video.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Thank you. And I'm assuming all of the clothing in
- 22:10Speaker 1: it is yours, right? All of the styling?
- 22:13Speaker 2: The clothing, the styling, we also, I worked with a stylist,
- 22:18Speaker 2: the Chinese thing I rented from a Chinese photo studio
- 22:26Speaker 2: because they do those traditional shots and they do clothes rental.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Another clothes is my friend's who her husband had worked
- 22:35Speaker 2: with Beyonce's music video team.
- 22:38Speaker 1: No biggie, yeah.
- 22:41Speaker 2: No biggie, but they have like some of the clothes
- 22:44Speaker 2: that just like on the rack for Beyonce's dancers to choose.
- 22:49Speaker 2: And then they used it and they just left on
- 22:51Speaker 2: the rack. And then so she said, are there anything
- 22:54Speaker 2: you want to borrow? So I yeah so one of
- 22:57Speaker 2: the outfit is is it from Beyonce's team rec okay.
- 23:03Speaker 1: How about yeah see there's the universe for you yeah
- 23:06Speaker 1: I've been watching it there's like a great fringe outfit
- 23:09Speaker 1: and like some high boots and I was like she
- 23:11Speaker 1: probably didn't even need to like borrow this or get
- 23:14Speaker 1: like a costume person I was like these seem like
- 23:17Speaker 1: looks that are just right from her closet.
- 23:20Speaker 2: That one, I also got lucky because after all this,
- 23:25Speaker 2: my stylist and also the director said, you are missing
- 23:28Speaker 2: one outfit. I just want to have one more cool outfit.
- 23:31Speaker 2: And I was like, I don't know. But then I
- 23:34Speaker 2: would just, the last, I mean, I think one week
- 23:38Speaker 2: before the shoot date, I was stopping by Adidas store
- 23:43Speaker 2: and this outfit was just on the rack is again,
- 23:46Speaker 2: it's Ivy park. So Beyonce, thank you. It just showed
- 23:50Speaker 2: up at the right time. And I grabbed it.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Friend of the pod. Beyonce, if you're listening, which I
- 23:56Speaker 1: know you are. Thank you. Putting that out to the universe. Come,
- 24:05Speaker 1: come visit. Yeah.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:08Speaker 1: So you also show off your high kicks in the video,
- 24:12Speaker 1: some impressive high kicks, which we know is your background
- 24:17Speaker 1: in martial arts. But I also have learned that you're
- 24:20Speaker 1: like a trained dancer. You do ballroom dance?
- 24:25Speaker 2: Argentine tango. Slightly different than the ballroom style tango because
- 24:29Speaker 2: it's more intimate and more social. Yeah, I think because
- 24:36Speaker 2: growing up, I was actually not allowed to dance because
- 24:40Speaker 2: I was considered a fat baby. I was like fat,
- 24:43Speaker 2: like by Chinese standard, you know, there's chubby. So even
- 24:48Speaker 2: though I like to dance, teachers and my parents were like, yeah,
- 24:53Speaker 2: you're not dancing material. Just focus on your study. So
- 24:56Speaker 2: I was always a pretty, yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 2: So when I got a chance later in America, I
- 25:03Speaker 2: just like, you know, when I can dance, I want
- 25:05Speaker 2: to dance. I was introduced to hip hop, jazz, and
- 25:10Speaker 2: then eventually I fell in love with Argentine tango. So
- 25:13Speaker 2: I stick with that for like seven years. Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Are there any dance styles that are, that you're interested
- 25:21Speaker 1: to learn? Like any, anything to add in your free time,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know, in between getting your black belt and. doing tango.
- 25:29Speaker 2: No, I wish I wish I can have more time.
- 25:32Speaker 2: That is one thing I want. I think at this point,
- 25:35Speaker 2: probably for me is less about training, but more just
- 25:38Speaker 2: getting back to dancing, literally any kind, you know, just
- 25:43Speaker 2: to embrace. Like, I think dancing, I like any but
- 25:47Speaker 2: to be honest, like Argentine tango is a very snobbish dance.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Is that the one that goes up in the air?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Because it takes a long time. It takes a
- 25:58Speaker 2: long time to become good. And so people very peak
- 26:02Speaker 2: with a very picky about who they dance to. There's
- 26:05Speaker 2: a lot of dynamic and politics in Argentine tango. Um,
- 26:10Speaker 2: so in a way I love it. I love it
- 26:12Speaker 2: so much. And the people in it are also nice,
- 26:15Speaker 2: but sometimes it's hard for me to bring in my
- 26:20Speaker 2: husband who doesn't dance to enjoying it with me. So, um,
- 26:24Speaker 2: salsa salsa is something that i probably want to learn
- 26:28Speaker 2: more because i need to jump in dance so meet
- 26:31Speaker 2: more friends and then you know i think it's a
- 26:34Speaker 2: little bit more friendly to beginners so then i can
- 26:38Speaker 2: also hang out with my friends um yeah i.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Love it and i feel like if it's anything like
- 26:44Speaker 1: all of your other talents you'll be a pro at it.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Well yeah we'll see I think it just like I
- 26:51Speaker 2: got inspired by doing things that's not comedy that helped
- 26:56Speaker 2: me to step off the box a little bit to
- 26:59Speaker 2: yeah yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I think that's important I feel like a lot of
- 27:03Speaker 1: people once they start doing comedy it's like that's the
- 27:06Speaker 1: whole personality that's all of it and it's like you
- 27:09Speaker 1: gotta remember all of the things that you did you
- 27:13Speaker 1: know that's where your stories are and that's where like
- 27:15Speaker 1: the weird interactions happen and you know, awkward encounters and
- 27:19Speaker 1: all kinds of interesting things happen, you know, when you're
- 27:22Speaker 1: taking whatever, you know, ballroom classes or dance classes.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I also noticed that, you know,
- 27:31Speaker 2: lately I've been thinking about that period of my life
- 27:34Speaker 2: of dancing. I was traveling all over the world. Like
- 27:37Speaker 2: I went to so many different cities in America and
- 27:41Speaker 2: different countries, dancing tango, interact with different people. I actually
- 27:45Speaker 2: want to write more about my experience from that period too.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I hope we'll get to read some of that writing
- 27:53Speaker 1: or hear about it on stage, or maybe it'll be
- 27:55Speaker 1: another music video.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I think we're ready to move to our trivia portion,
- 28:03Speaker 1: our good to know. How are you feeling for trivia?
- 28:08Speaker 2: I am horrible with trivia. I'm usually the worst with
- 28:12Speaker 2: trivia because I didn't grow up here. So with some
- 28:17Speaker 2: of the common knowledge, I'm pretty bad. But let's go.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I like it. I like that you're like, I am
- 28:24Speaker 1: not sure. I think you got some tough questions anyway.
- 28:28Speaker 1: And I just want to say I did not write
- 28:29Speaker 1: these questions. So we can talk shit about these questions
- 28:33Speaker 1: too if that works better for you. Some of these,
- 28:37Speaker 1: I read through these and I was like, I don't
- 28:38Speaker 1: know the answer to some of these. And I had
- 28:41Speaker 1: to check to make sure that it was the right answer.
- 28:44Speaker 1: So the first one, how many Oscars has Martin Scorsese won?
- 28:50Speaker 1: That was basically my answer.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I was like, um.
- 28:58Speaker 2: We don't even have to choose. It would just come
- 29:01Speaker 2: up with a number.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I'll throw out, has he won... Um, five Oscars, two
- 29:09Speaker 1: Oscars or one Oscar?
- 29:12Speaker 2: Five.
- 29:13Speaker 1: It's actually one.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Poor guy.
- 29:19Speaker 1: He's probably doing pretty well.
- 29:21Speaker 2: He's doing really well. But then like, I was like,
- 29:24Speaker 2: why is it only one, one? Because like, did you
- 29:27Speaker 2: watch the studio where they may have, um, the one
- 29:31Speaker 2: that they canceled his last, um, uh the the tv
- 29:36Speaker 2: show the studio okay and he was in it but
- 29:41Speaker 2: not to put any spoilers but it's the one of
- 29:44Speaker 2: the funniest thing is the studio had bought his script
- 29:48Speaker 2: which is supposed to be his last script and just
- 29:51Speaker 2: to cancel it and so he was crying so now
- 29:54Speaker 2: when when the moment i hear that he won one
- 29:57Speaker 2: oscar and i was like I just have that crying
- 29:59Speaker 2: face in my head.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I think Martin Scorsese is probably doing fine. I'm sure
- 30:04Speaker 1: he's having a good day.
- 30:05Speaker 2: He is, he is, he is.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Despite not having five Oscars. Second question. Name one of
- 30:16Speaker 1: the three lines of defense in our immune system. Wait, wait, wait.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Okay, repeat the question.
- 30:25Speaker 1: It's kind of worded in a strange way. One of
- 30:31Speaker 1: the three lines of defense in the immune system.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Like something like skin? Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Oh, that, okay, okay. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 2: And then saliva?
- 30:45Speaker 1: Saliva? No, I feel like that's a good guess, though.
- 30:51Speaker 1: The other answers listed here are white blood cells and antibodies.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Oh.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Yes. You didn't know you were going to be.
- 31:00Speaker 2: I didn't know I'm going to test on my biology.
- 31:08Speaker 1: When I interviewed, when I did a podcast for this
- 31:12Speaker 1: show and did my trivia, I was so nervous because Carlos,
- 31:16Speaker 1: one of the hosts, he was like talking me up
- 31:18Speaker 1: and all this. And he's like, all right, let's get
- 31:20Speaker 1: down to it. And I was like, oh, no, I
- 31:22Speaker 1: haven't been in school in so long.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I know.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I feel like number three, you got this one. Where
- 31:30Speaker 1: is Machu Picchu located?
- 31:32Speaker 2: Oh, Peru.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:40Speaker 2: You know, when people say you should get this one,
- 31:43Speaker 2: then there's a lot of pressure. And then also it's like,
- 31:46Speaker 2: I know Machu Picchu, but like... Why this sounds like
- 31:49Speaker 2: a Pokemon, you know? It sounds like a Pokemon name.
- 31:56Speaker 2: So my brain is like, oh, okay, okay, okay.
- 31:58Speaker 1: I feel like maybe I jinx people when I say like,
- 32:01Speaker 1: you got this one, it's easy. And then they're like,
- 32:05Speaker 1: oh no, panic.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Oh no.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Are you a fan of the Muppets? Do you know
- 32:11Speaker 1: the Muppets?
- 32:12Speaker 2: I know them. I have not really watched them, but
- 32:16Speaker 2: every time I see them, Because sometimes I will see
- 32:20Speaker 2: people in comedy refer to it. Okay. Yeah. Or see
- 32:25Speaker 2: a snippet of it. Then I like it. They're super cute.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I have a friend who does Linquid. You know the
- 32:32Speaker 2: one they can talk without they move their mouth? Oh, yeah.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Tranquist.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tranquist. They have one. I think my
- 32:42Speaker 2: friend's name is Zach Binder. And then so he has
- 32:46Speaker 2: a Muppet on stage with him.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I think Zach performed at Big Pine.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Big Pine Comedy Festival and Mic Drop Comedy. I'm pretty
- 32:57Speaker 1: sure I saw that comic. And they had like a
- 33:00Speaker 1: really cute little puppet with them.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:02Speaker 1: It was very sweet.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Am I talking about the rising? Yeah.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Yeah. I bring up the Muppets with no... segue because
- 33:11Speaker 1: question number four in the muppets which character plays the
- 33:15Speaker 1: piano and i can come up with um a multiple
- 33:20Speaker 1: choice if that would be.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Helpful for you okay yes please is it.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Animal ralph the dog or fozzie bear.
- 33:33Speaker 2: The first one.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Which one did i say animal animal you said first
- 33:41Speaker 1: unfortunately is not animal it is ralph the dog.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Oh my god why do you have to play piano.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I didn't write the questions um i think i am
- 33:57Speaker 1: part muppet so i apologize on on behalf of my
- 34:01Speaker 1: muppet people but um okay now we're getting into some
- 34:07Speaker 1: slight i was gonna say math not quite What temperature
- 34:10Speaker 1: does water freeze at?
- 34:14Speaker 2: Okay. Are we talking about the Celsius or Fahrenheit?
- 34:21Speaker 1: Whichever conversion rate you like.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Oh, Celsius is zero. That's right. Fahrenheit is 32, right?
- 34:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:32Speaker 1: I feel like that should be a bonus point because
- 34:34Speaker 1: she did it in Celsius and Fahrenheit. I don't, again,
- 34:37Speaker 1: I just read the questions. I don't handle the scoring.
- 34:41Speaker 2: I never say no to more points.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like that should be a bonus point.
- 34:45Speaker 1: That's extra credit. All right, this next one. Have you
- 34:49Speaker 1: seen the movie Fight Club? Mm-hmm. Okay, what is Edward
- 34:54Speaker 1: Norton's character's name in Fight Club?
- 34:57Speaker 3: Oh.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Shoot. If you do Money for Choice, I will be
- 35:05Speaker 2: able to do it.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Nick, do you have any... Oh, I can do this. Okay,
- 35:11Speaker 1: so is it A, Mr. Norton, B, the commentator, C,
- 35:19Speaker 1: the narrator?
- 35:22Speaker 2: What? What?
- 35:25Speaker 1: What?
- 35:27Speaker 2: Oh, what? Really?
- 35:31Speaker 1: Or D, Jack Sparrow.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Okay, it's not D. That's good.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna say really?
- 35:43Speaker 3: Did I.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Even? Okay, I'm just gonna put A but I feel
- 35:48Speaker 2: like I got it wrong.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Yeah, A is incorrect. It would be C, the narrator.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I was reading these over and I was like, is
- 35:59Speaker 1: that right? I thought it was Tyler Durden. That's the
- 36:04Speaker 1: other character. I thought he also, spoiler for anyone who
- 36:08Speaker 1: hasn't seen the movie Fight Club, from what year did that?
- 36:11Speaker 2: 1997? Yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 1: When I was reading through these, I was like, oh,
- 36:18Speaker 1: do I know any of these? And I was like, narrator?
- 36:21Speaker 1: Maybe I should look into that. Well, We can all
- 36:25Speaker 1: watch Fight Club together and we can fact check this.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I know.
- 36:30Speaker 1: All right. How about this one? What is the capital
- 36:33Speaker 1: of California?
- 36:34Speaker 3: Is it A, Los Angeles, B, Sacramento, or C, Santa Cruz?
- 36:40Speaker 2: What? What? I saw there's none of this.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Or D, none of the above.
- 37:00Speaker 2: No, too late, too late.
- 37:03Speaker 1: What?
- 37:04Speaker 2: I know it's not LA. It's not LA.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Yeah, people in LA might think it is the capital,
- 37:10Speaker 1: but it is not. Okay, so we've eliminated Los Angeles. Good.
- 37:14Speaker 1: So then are you thinking Sacramento or Santa Cruz?
- 37:19Speaker 2: That's crazy. I mean... I don't know the place. Is
- 37:24Speaker 2: it the capital? What?
- 37:30Speaker 1: What?
- 37:31Speaker 2: I'm going to guess Sacramento.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Ding, ding, ding, ding.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Correct.
- 37:36Speaker 1: That was good.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I can't believe I've been to Sacramento.
- 37:41Speaker 2: It does not look like a capital. You know what?
- 37:43Speaker 1: I would agree with that. I would agree. I also
- 37:46Speaker 1: underwhelmed when I got there, but that's true. Santa Cruz
- 37:51Speaker 1: would be the place where I went to college at
- 37:54Speaker 1: UC Santa Cruz. So shout out to the banana slugs.
- 37:58Speaker 1: All right. Are you a hip hop fan by any chance?
- 38:04Speaker 1: I know you're a good rapper.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I love hip hop. Yeah.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Are you a fan of outcast by any chance?
- 38:11Speaker 2: Outcast? Not as a familiar.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Okay, so this next question, number eight, is about the
- 38:18Speaker 1: group Outkast. What was the name of Outkast's first album?
- 38:23Speaker 1: And I can come up with multiple choice for you
- 38:26Speaker 1: if you like.
- 38:27Speaker 2: I will need that. I will need.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Is it A, Spadiati Dopolicious, B, Musical Fang Tang, or C,
- 38:41Speaker 1: Southern Playalistic Cadillac Music?
- 38:45Speaker 2: Oh, this name sounds so fun. I'm going to check
- 38:48Speaker 2: out OutKast. I mean, shoot. Obviously, I don't know. But
- 38:54Speaker 2: I feel like the first one already got me. I
- 38:59Speaker 2: like that name. I'm just going to choose that one.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Adi Adi Dopealicious?
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Unfortunately, that is not the correct answer. It is some
- 39:08Speaker 1: stylistic Cadillac music.
- 39:10Speaker 2: That was good, too. That one was good.
- 39:13Speaker 1: But Spotty Adi Dopealicious is a song on one of
- 39:19Speaker 1: their albums. I don't know if it's that one, but
- 39:22Speaker 1: you can check it out.
- 39:23Speaker 2: I have to. check them out their names so all
- 39:27Speaker 2: this their song names or album name are all theirs
- 39:32Speaker 2: so Outkast is Big Boy and Andre 3000 I would
- 39:37Speaker 2: pretty much guarantee you have heard.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Some Outkast at some point they've got some good stuff
- 39:44Speaker 1: and they also are very stylish like yourself so I
- 39:46Speaker 1: feel like you would be Yeah. Oh, I have to.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Okay. Okay. Thank you so much for the recommendation.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Um, this next one is a sports question. Are you
- 39:57Speaker 1: a sports fan at all?
- 40:00Speaker 2: I wouldn't call myself a sports fan, but if you
- 40:03Speaker 2: ask me anything, UFC, I can probably answer pretty good.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I'll put in a request for some UFC questions. Unfortunately,
- 40:10Speaker 1: this one is basketball. Okay. For Carlos to add some, uh,
- 40:16Speaker 1: UFC questions. Um, How many championships does Michael Jordan have?
- 40:23Speaker 1: Is it A, 5, B, 6, or C, 2?
- 40:33Speaker 2: I thought it was 5.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Final answer?
- 40:37Speaker 2: No pressure. I know it's not 2. It's just between
- 40:45Speaker 2: 5 and 6. But I'm going to put it for 5.
- 40:48Speaker 2: All right.
- 40:49Speaker 1: The correct answer is six.
- 40:52Speaker 2: So close.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that is very close. I know they did a
- 40:58Speaker 1: three-peat when he was with the Bulls. And after that,
- 41:00Speaker 1: I don't know. I feel like I should know this
- 41:06Speaker 1: as a basketball fan from the 90s, but. Again, that'll
- 41:11Speaker 1: be homework for us.
- 41:12Speaker 2: We have a lot of homework. I didn't watch the thing.
- 41:16Speaker 2: What is the documentary? The one that came out, everybody,
- 41:22Speaker 2: The Last Dance. They didn't watch it now.
- 41:24Speaker 1: That was so good.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:28Speaker 2: But I forgot the numbers.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Oh. Sorry, Michael Jordan. I think he's a fan of
- 41:32Speaker 1: the podcast too. Sorry about that. We, uh, we're a
- 41:37Speaker 1: new podcast, but we have huge celebrity following like Beyonce
- 41:40Speaker 1: and Michael Jordan, not to brag, but, um, your final
- 41:45Speaker 1: question for trivia in the movie back to the future.
- 41:50Speaker 1: What year did Marty McFly go to? You got some
- 41:53Speaker 1: tough questions. Carlos was not messing around.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I needed multiple choices. All right.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Was it, it's funny because we were referencing Back to
- 42:07Speaker 1: the Future before this. Was it 1953, 1955, or 1957?
- 42:12Speaker 2: What?
- 42:12Speaker 1: Back to the Future? I mean, Back to the Future?
- 42:15Speaker 1: That's the future? Oh, what?
- 42:16Speaker 2: What? Oh, I thought it will be 2000 or something.
- 42:31Speaker 1: So it sounds like this is also going to be
- 42:34Speaker 1: part of your homework is to watch Back to the
- 42:36Speaker 1: Future before you come and listen to Chandler. Is that right?
- 42:39Speaker 2: Have you seen this movie? I, you know, it's weird
- 42:43Speaker 2: because I feel like I'm, so in China, sometimes on TV,
- 42:46Speaker 2: they will have like American movies, like snippet of it,
- 42:51Speaker 2: but because you never know when it starts and they all,
- 42:54Speaker 2: very random. So you'll get a little bit of it.
- 42:57Speaker 2: There's no context, you don't catch the beginning. And so
- 43:00Speaker 2: you can you I remember some imagery, but I don't
- 43:05Speaker 2: remember the plots. So like it just random stuff coming
- 43:10Speaker 2: at me.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I can Yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Oh, okay. 57, 58, 1959. Is that the three options? 53,
- 43:15Speaker 2: 55 or 57?
- 43:23Speaker 1: I think it's at least worth a rewatch. There's definitely
- 43:26Speaker 1: some of it that doesn't go so well as most
- 43:29Speaker 1: movies from the 80s, but overall, it's a classic.
- 43:33Speaker 2: That one is a classic. Yeah. 55, that's my guess. 55.
- 43:40Speaker 1: We got another one.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Good job. Lucky is a lady today.
- 43:52Speaker 3: You got six out of did i do well i
- 43:56Speaker 3: gave her a bonus point because she okay good i
- 43:58Speaker 3: was like yeah no i think that's worth a bonus
- 44:01Speaker 3: point okay so you.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Got thank god you gave me that bonus point so
- 44:04Speaker 2: i feel like.
- 44:07Speaker 1: You just earned a bonus point for that that was
- 44:09Speaker 1: pretty good um well that wrap that concludes good to
- 44:14Speaker 1: know you survived You made it through the trivia section.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Do you have any feedback for our trivia question writer
- 44:22Speaker 1: besides the more UFC related questions?
- 44:25Speaker 2: I could have written a list of topics I'm really
- 44:28Speaker 2: good at ahead of time.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Do you want to drop some trivia? What would somebody
- 44:34Speaker 1: be surprised to know that you were well-versed in? I
- 44:41Speaker 1: know you're a big UFC fan.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you. That's a surprise to people. I
- 44:47Speaker 2: am also, I know a lot of very random animal
- 44:54Speaker 2: facts and historical facts. Yeah, very random stuff, like how
- 45:00Speaker 2: oysters have sex and stuff.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Okay. Do you want to share that before we move
- 45:09Speaker 1: to our final section?
- 45:13Speaker 2: Yeah, here's some biology for you guys, okay? The oyster,
- 45:18Speaker 2: they just shoot the things in the water, and then
- 45:22Speaker 2: the next oyster, they catch it, and they get pregnant.
- 45:26Speaker 1: And then.
- 45:29Speaker 1: It's very momentous.
- 45:32Speaker 2: But also, that's why I learned it the hard way.
- 45:37Speaker 2: During the month of August and July, that's when oysters
- 45:41Speaker 2: are spawning. They spawn. And then so they taste horrible. Yeah,
- 45:47Speaker 2: because there's a lot of gooey stuff inside the oyster.
- 45:51Speaker 2: And so that's why they say only eat oyster in
- 45:53Speaker 2: the month with an R. Spawning oysters are disgusting. Don't
- 45:59Speaker 2: eat them. Okay.
- 46:01Speaker 1: That was more than I, than I bargained for. I
- 46:05Speaker 1: don't think I'd like put a lot of thought into
- 46:08Speaker 1: how oysters have sex, but I guess that's, I feel
- 46:11Speaker 1: like I've learned something and anyone who listened to this
- 46:13Speaker 1: podcast learned, learned a lot as well.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Well, we're in our.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Gotta go section and that means it's, it's almost time
- 46:24Speaker 1: to go. It's been so much fun talking with you.
- 46:27Speaker 1: We're very excited that you're coming to see us at
- 46:30Speaker 1: Mic Drop in Chandler on February 28th, which is Saturday
- 46:34Speaker 1: at 7 p.m. And for anybody that's listening to this
- 46:38Speaker 1: and is like sitting on the couch dragging ass and
- 46:41Speaker 1: they're like, I don't know if I want to leave
- 46:44Speaker 1: the house. Do you have any like words of encouragement
- 46:47Speaker 1: to get them off their butt and to the show?
- 46:49Speaker 1: What can they expect? Mm hmm.
- 46:52Speaker 2: OK, so.
- 46:53Speaker 1: All right, guys.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Um, I know you might have seen some of my
- 46:58Speaker 2: standup on social media. Okay. But I just want to
- 47:01Speaker 2: let you know, I save a lot of stuff that
- 47:05Speaker 2: I don't, I want to save it for the live audience.
- 47:08Speaker 2: So there are surprises and, and I do stand up.
- 47:12Speaker 2: I do comedy rap and, um, I am somebody you've
- 47:17Speaker 2: never seen before, but ultimately it's about good vibes. And
- 47:20Speaker 2: if you get anything from this podcast, it's like, it's
- 47:23Speaker 2: fun to hang out with me. So start your new year,
- 47:27Speaker 2: Chinese year of the fire horse with this energy, then
- 47:31Speaker 2: you will be in good luck all year around.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Yes. I love that. We all need some good luck.
- 47:39Speaker 1: I think that's a great way to send us off.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Is there anything you want to plug besides the show?
- 47:44Speaker 1: I know you're also going to mic drop in San Diego.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Yes, San Diego, February 26th. Well, this is my first
- 47:54Speaker 2: time headlining the mic drop. I'm so excited because I
- 47:58Speaker 2: met Hilary, the owner, back in 2018 when I first
- 48:03Speaker 2: started doing comedy at the San Diego Comedy Festival. And
- 48:07Speaker 2: they are so kind. And it's really cool for me
- 48:10Speaker 2: to see female-owned comedy clubs and just have a different
- 48:15Speaker 2: vibe and just so supportive. I'm so excited. But in
- 48:18Speaker 2: the meanwhile, I will say San Diego is a market
- 48:22Speaker 2: like I haven't played that much before. So guys, come
- 48:26Speaker 2: out if you can. Check it. Give me a chance.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Just give this girl a chance. Let me convert you.
- 48:33Speaker 1: You'll have a great night. You will laugh your butt off.
- 48:35Speaker 1: You'll see some rapping. You'll be laughing. You'll forget all
- 48:39Speaker 1: of your troubles. Bernice, it's been so fun talking with you.
- 48:43Speaker 1: I'm so excited for your show. We'll see you on
- 48:46Speaker 1: February 28th.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Yay.
- 48:50Speaker 1: We'll see everybody next week. Thanks, guys.
- 48:52Speaker 2: I'm scary.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Bye.
