- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench. We to Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:04Speaker 3: The plays get broken down and science gets denied it I.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Gotta come off the bitch.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hour two of.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Off the Bench, Live from the Raising Kanes Studio.
- 0:20Speaker 2: All right, welcome in out number two.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Here on a Wednesday edition of Off the Bench, Taylor
- 0:25Speaker 4: Sharper with the Elandra Villarrial Braxton Risuto along for.
- 0:28Speaker 2: The ride as well, and in studio today.
- 0:31Speaker 4: He was nice enough to come in his weekly Wednesday segment,
- 0:34Speaker 4: Doctor Steven Ethridge.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Doc, how are you doing great?
- 0:39Speaker 4: You were telling us during the break about like we were
- 0:42Speaker 4: talking about the whole COVID thing about like you remember,
- 0:45Speaker 4: like the whole birthday thing.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I was telling you.
- 0:46Speaker 4: My brother actually graduated high school in twenty twenty.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Didn't have a prom.
- 0:51Speaker 4: They had to do graduation on the football field in
- 0:54Speaker 4: June in South Louisiana.
- 0:56Speaker 2: And I mean he started college.
- 0:58Speaker 4: That screwed ups old freshman year Arcane Ida hits and
- 1:01Speaker 4: that pushed back a year. Like poor dude's been in
- 1:03Speaker 4: school like six years because he didn't go basically his
- 1:05Speaker 4: first two.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It was.
- 1:05Speaker 5: It was such a crazy time, and I mean how
- 1:08Speaker 5: it affected so many things. And you know that was
- 1:10Speaker 5: actually when when I started doing a regular setting with
- 1:12Speaker 5: Jake back then because of all the crazy COVID are
- 1:16Speaker 5: we not? That was literally we talked about every week
- 1:18Speaker 5: the update on on the COVID.
- 1:19Speaker 6: You know, are we gonna play football? Is this gonna
- 1:21Speaker 6: happen this year?
- 1:22Speaker 2: House?
- 1:22Speaker 6: This season gonna look what are the rules going to
- 1:24Speaker 6: be like?
- 1:24Speaker 5: And there were things like, you know, I remember on
- 1:26Speaker 5: the sideline having to wear a mask and we're outside
- 1:30Speaker 5: and and the thing that all I didn't realize is
- 1:31Speaker 5: we're getting COVID tested multiple times throughout the week.
- 1:34Speaker 2: We had to.
- 1:35Speaker 5: That's part of the policy. And I'm like, can't we
- 1:36Speaker 5: just put a little disclaimer on the bottom of the screen.
- 1:38Speaker 5: You know, we're outdoors, I've had a COVID test literally today,
- 1:41Speaker 5: you know, I'm negative wear a mask here.
- 1:44Speaker 6: But it's it's it was a crazy time.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Look that that's better. Let's just start there.
- 1:47Speaker 4: We weren't even gonna do this, but like, how did
- 1:50Speaker 4: that impact y'all, like not just during game day, but
- 1:52Speaker 4: like week to week, like training room straight any anything
- 1:55Speaker 4: like that. It was it was probably so many precautions
- 1:58Speaker 4: you can do anything.
- 1:59Speaker 5: It was it was very significant. I mean it was
- 2:01Speaker 5: just the money, you know, I think I don't remember
- 2:03Speaker 5: the exact numbers. Sa'll probably butcher it. But so one
- 2:05Speaker 5: of the requirements I had to get tested the the
- 2:07Speaker 5: SEC had an independent company that would come in. We
- 2:09Speaker 5: had to be tested three times a week everybody that
- 2:11Speaker 5: was on the travel roster. So I'd have to go
- 2:13Speaker 5: up there like on a Tuesday and get swapped and
- 2:15Speaker 5: all this stuff. And that was what they had decided on.
- 2:17Speaker 5: And I think just to do that just in season
- 2:20Speaker 5: was over a half a million dollars just for the
- 2:22Speaker 5: football team, just for testing, forget all the other stuff.
- 2:24Speaker 6: We had to take extra buses so we could be
- 2:26Speaker 6: spread on the buses.
- 2:26Speaker 5: We had to have extra rooms the hotel, you know,
- 2:29Speaker 5: I remember the first away game we had was at
- 2:31Speaker 5: Vandy that year, and they had people with the front
- 2:34Speaker 5: because they didn't want people's families to come in. So
- 2:35Speaker 5: they had like secure at the front because they didn't
- 2:37Speaker 5: want family to come to the hotel.
- 2:39Speaker 6: And as the season went on.
- 2:40Speaker 5: You know, we got more and more loose with things,
- 2:42Speaker 5: and things kind of slored went back to normal. Really
- 2:44Speaker 5: was never normal because remember we played Florida at Florida
- 2:46Speaker 5: at the end of the year. That was the Shoe
- 2:47Speaker 5: Game was that year, and I mean that stadium was
- 2:49Speaker 5: maybe half full, you know, And and we played in
- 2:52Speaker 5: like late December because we started later in mid December.
- 2:54Speaker 5: It was just but there was a lot the day
- 2:56Speaker 5: to day that just was very different. The staff had
- 2:59Speaker 5: to wear a mask, at least the play didn't. Originally
- 3:01Speaker 5: had talked about that or gonna make the players wear
- 3:02Speaker 5: a mask. And at least they didn't have to. So
- 3:05Speaker 5: that was something, you know, I mean, there was It
- 3:06Speaker 5: was crazy though.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Olympics are going on right now, and you know, I
- 3:11Speaker 4: know a little bit last week, you know, I talked
- 3:12Speaker 4: about Lindsey Vaughne.
- 3:14Speaker 2: She shuffled.
- 3:14Speaker 4: The break in the leg, well came in a couple
- 3:16Speaker 4: days ago. It's actually a lot worse than originally projective.
- 3:20Speaker 4: So trying not to butcher that she has something called
- 3:22Speaker 4: a complex tibial fracture in her left leg. She's already
- 3:26Speaker 4: she had four surgeries in Italy. She just got back
- 3:29Speaker 4: to the US about to have a fifth surgery. I mean,
- 3:32Speaker 4: it obviously sounds like a huge deal with five surgeries.
- 3:35Speaker 4: What goes into that?
- 3:36Speaker 2: I mean, can you recover fully from something like that.
- 3:40Speaker 5: I think, I think, yes, you can, I mean all
- 3:43Speaker 5: things relative to say that it will never affect her again,
- 3:46Speaker 5: I think that's impossible, you know.
- 3:48Speaker 6: I think, let's just be honest.
- 3:49Speaker 5: And then you factor in that she's had multiple injuries,
- 3:51Speaker 5: that she was already dealing with the knee injury where
- 3:53Speaker 5: she had a ligament injury acl the knee already. H
- 3:56Speaker 5: you figure all these things out. You know, it's a
- 3:59Speaker 5: big injury. You know, lot of times you have to
- 4:00Speaker 5: go in and you can only do so much at
- 4:02Speaker 5: one time. You have a lot of swelling you have
- 4:03Speaker 5: to account for. You try to stabilize the more important
- 4:06Speaker 5: pieces first and then gradually kind of get yourself. But
- 4:08Speaker 5: you know, a complex fracture would indicate that she'd had
- 4:10Speaker 5: multiple breaks. Typically, what you're gonna see is it's bone
- 4:13Speaker 5: that just shatter and you got to try and align
- 4:15Speaker 5: everything put it back together. I think that, you know,
- 4:17Speaker 5: one of the things she mentions she's got an X fix,
- 4:19Speaker 5: which is an external fixator, which is one of the
- 4:22Speaker 5: case things that you see. It's a metal like, almost
- 4:24Speaker 5: like shield that goes around the leg on the outside
- 4:26Speaker 5: of the skin. It's that the X fix, and it
- 4:28Speaker 5: holds everything in place, so you got to go take
- 4:30Speaker 5: that off later. And it's just I mean, realistically, I
- 4:33Speaker 5: can't see that's not effecting your moving forward. I think
- 4:35Speaker 5: best case scenarios, she has a really good recovery, fairly
- 4:38Speaker 5: normal life moving forward, can probably get back to skiing
- 4:40Speaker 5: at her age and everything else going in.
- 4:42Speaker 6: I don't know competitively, but obviously hope the best.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Right, I mean, she's forty one, this was probably her
- 4:46Speaker 4: last Olympics anyways.
- 4:48Speaker 2: But I mean, like everyday life, like what is what
- 4:50Speaker 2: does that look like for?
- 4:51Speaker 4: Like, like if if you and I were to were
- 4:53Speaker 4: to have that injury, like, what would it I.
- 4:55Speaker 6: Think, like I said it would you would you would
- 4:56Speaker 6: feel it every day? You know.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Now in a best case scenario, could you get to
- 5:00Speaker 5: walking normal and everything? I think so, you know, if
- 5:02Speaker 5: if all goes well and you rehab good, and she'll
- 5:04Speaker 5: have the benefit of having a lot of resources, you know,
- 5:06Speaker 5: just to help her recovery, and I think she'll be
- 5:09Speaker 5: able to get back. You know, you'll probably have down
- 5:12Speaker 5: the road more arthritic problems with the joints around that
- 5:14Speaker 5: that injury, said, the ankle and the knee, the two
- 5:16Speaker 5: joints on each end, you know, it might be something
- 5:19Speaker 5: that you know, you'll have some scarring and some muscular
- 5:21Speaker 5: weakness and things like that chronically. So it's it's it's
- 5:24Speaker 5: a pretty big deal for sure.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Moving from Olympics kind of over to the NFL. You know,
- 5:30Speaker 4: there's been a lot of off season, like franchise tag
- 5:33Speaker 4: is this week, free agency's coming up draft. One of
- 5:36Speaker 4: the biggest players, Patrick Mahomes. I mean, you know, there's
- 5:38Speaker 4: updates on him constantly. He tore the ACL and LCL
- 5:42Speaker 4: in December. He's already had his surgery, but he said
- 5:47Speaker 4: his goal is to be ready for preseason.
- 5:49Speaker 2: He's Patrick Mahomes. He's not gonna play in the preseason.
- 5:52Speaker 4: But I mean late December, could he be ready for
- 5:55Speaker 4: early September twenty twenty six.
- 5:57Speaker 5: With today's surgery and rehab and the fact that he
- 6:00Speaker 5: had it so quickly after, I would say yes, he
- 6:03Speaker 5: could be, But I mean I also feink that's lofty,
- 6:05Speaker 5: you know, I feel like that's if everything goes perfect,
- 6:07Speaker 5: if his rehab goes well, if he doesn't have a
- 6:09Speaker 5: lot of didn't have a lot of swelling after surgery,
- 6:11Speaker 5: if he's able, and again kind of we had mentioned Lindsaymond.
- 6:14Speaker 5: They're gonna have the resources. I mean, this guy's, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 5: one of the best players in the world. I mean
- 6:18Speaker 5: some people say the best, and you know, he's gonna
- 6:21Speaker 5: have every resource to help him get there. But that's
- 6:24Speaker 5: everything's got to go perfect, you know, really I think
- 6:26Speaker 5: in my opinion for that to happen, but it does,
- 6:28Speaker 5: it's a possibility. Especially I don't think he's had any
- 6:31Speaker 5: history of major I think he had the knee tell
- 6:33Speaker 5: Er dislocation, kneecap dislocation I think he had back around
- 6:36Speaker 5: five six years ago. I don't think he's had a
- 6:38Speaker 5: lot of other injuries to that knee. Big surgery, so
- 6:39Speaker 5: that helps as well. There's not gonna be as much
- 6:41Speaker 5: scarring an old injury. So but I mean, yeah, it's
- 6:44Speaker 5: that's gonna be the best case scenario I think is
- 6:46Speaker 5: he's ready to go at the beginning of the year.
- 6:48Speaker 4: So recovery wise, like you know, just for me watch
- 6:52Speaker 4: him from Afar. I think the quickest I ever saw
- 6:54Speaker 4: somebody was Adrian Peterson. He did it in I think
- 6:56Speaker 4: nine months actually, like was an MVP consideration is really good,
- 7:00Speaker 4: but that was only one ligament.
- 7:02Speaker 2: He did it in nine months.
- 7:03Speaker 4: I mean, like everything goes perfect, you know, no setbacks
- 7:08Speaker 4: anything like that. What is like the absolute quick is
- 7:10Speaker 4: like you would advise someone back out there.
- 7:12Speaker 6: I think that's probably about it.
- 7:13Speaker 5: You know, that nine month mark is kind of eight
- 7:15Speaker 5: nine months is probably for an ACL injury, what we
- 7:18Speaker 5: normally expect on the short end, you know, you might
- 7:20Speaker 5: see hear or hear of a few rare exceptions. And
- 7:23Speaker 5: again getting back to some sport like football, but I
- 7:26Speaker 5: tell people anywhere from that to about a year is
- 7:28Speaker 5: kind of the normal range, and sometimes even a tad longer.
- 7:31Speaker 5: And again we've gotten better with the surgeries, we've gotten
- 7:33Speaker 5: better with the rehab, we know the things to do.
- 7:36Speaker 5: So again that the shorter end is more common than
- 7:38Speaker 5: it used to be. It used to pretty much be
- 7:39Speaker 5: a year. You can pretty much count on it. So
- 7:41Speaker 5: I think we're getting better with it. But again at
- 7:43Speaker 5: multilegment to your point with Mames, that that adds a
- 7:46Speaker 5: little bit to it.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Speaking of that, like you hear the ACL so common, right,
- 7:50Speaker 4: and you got you got the four ligaments, but like
- 7:52Speaker 4: the LCL the PCL, you don't hear about them as much.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Is it just strictly location or the stronger like, why
- 7:57Speaker 4: why the ACL so much more than the others.
- 7:59Speaker 5: So a couple a couple of reasons. One is the location,
- 8:02Speaker 5: the frequency with which the injuries happen, the mechanism with
- 8:04Speaker 5: how you get there. You're gonna see more ACLS, acn
- 8:06Speaker 5: MCL is seed to be the ones we see the most.
- 8:08Speaker 5: LCLPCL are less common sometimes don't require surgery if it's
- 8:13Speaker 5: isolated to those ligaments too, kind of like the MCL
- 8:16Speaker 5: as well. But you know, if you talk about the ACL,
- 8:18Speaker 5: you pretty much know it's gonna be surgery if you
- 8:20Speaker 5: tear the ACL, whereas an LCL injury or PCL injury,
- 8:22Speaker 5: even if you completely disrupt the PCL. There are guys
- 8:25Speaker 5: playing in the NFL right now who don't have a PCL,
- 8:28Speaker 5: and they're able to rehabit. It's just not quite as
- 8:31Speaker 5: important for that louter emotion.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Now.
- 8:33Speaker 5: Sometimes if they have some other components or base in
- 8:36Speaker 5: their anatomy, that may not be the case. But so
- 8:39Speaker 5: it's not as critical, it's not always fixed, it's not
- 8:41Speaker 5: as commonly injured.
- 8:42Speaker 6: So it's a little bit of all the above.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Transition in a little bit into baseball, I mean baseball
- 8:48Speaker 4: season fully underway and any fan of a baseball team
- 8:51Speaker 4: hates to hear up they got the elbow injury right
- 8:54Speaker 4: the old UCL because a lot of times you do
- 8:57Speaker 4: see Tommy John surgery, So kind of a two point order,
- 9:00Speaker 4: like first, like how do you decide is it heal
- 9:03Speaker 4: on its own or is it Tommy John? And then
- 9:05Speaker 4: why such a long recovery? Because I mean I feel
- 9:07Speaker 4: like that injury, like you mentioned, you know advances ACL
- 9:11Speaker 4: you can get back a lot quicker than normal. It
- 9:13Speaker 4: seems like any picture that's out is like a year,
- 9:15Speaker 4: year and a half a minimum, Like what goes into
- 9:17Speaker 4: the surgery?
- 9:18Speaker 2: And like why so long of a recovery?
- 9:20Speaker 5: So so I guess the first part when do we
- 9:22Speaker 5: fix when do we maybe treat it more conservatively? And
- 9:26Speaker 5: typically the two things you're going you're going to base
- 9:27Speaker 5: that on or imaging. So we're obviously we're gona get MRI,
- 9:30Speaker 5: especially these high level pictures. We want to know how
- 9:32Speaker 5: big the injury is. And then in physical exam are
- 9:34Speaker 5: they unstable? So the ligament is is a ligment on
- 9:37Speaker 5: the inside of the elbow. It's the owner collateral ligament
- 9:39Speaker 5: is the name of the ligament that's injured. We always
- 9:41Speaker 5: talk about the Tommy John injury, but that's technically what
- 9:44Speaker 5: it is. So is it completely disrupted as a partial tear?
- 9:48Speaker 5: Are they unstable? Is the elbow loose? How how much
- 9:51Speaker 5: pain are they having? All those are variables to go
- 9:52Speaker 5: into it. Typically, if it's a full disruption of full tear,
- 9:55Speaker 5: we're gonna repair that. You know, that's going to be
- 9:57Speaker 5: almost always. There's a few exceptions, I suppose, and I
- 9:59Speaker 5: used to the sport too. If you're not a thrower,
- 10:02Speaker 5: we may not worry about it. We've had you know,
- 10:03Speaker 5: football players who are you know, defensive players or non
- 10:06Speaker 5: quarterbacks with the UCL, we just reha them and you're
- 10:09Speaker 5: not as worried because you know that's more of a
- 10:11Speaker 5: traumatic injury. That's not You don't need the UCL to
- 10:14Speaker 5: do just about everything as sports cause ever throw So
- 10:16Speaker 5: if you're a picture, if you're a quarterback, if you're
- 10:18Speaker 5: a javelin thrower, you're gonna prepare those.
- 10:21Speaker 6: So I guess that's part of the discussion as well.
- 10:22Speaker 6: What position do they play?
- 10:24Speaker 5: Then if it's a big tear, you're going to go
- 10:25Speaker 5: in And unfortunately it's kind of like the ACL where
- 10:28Speaker 5: you historically have to reconstruct a whole new ligament, So
- 10:30Speaker 5: you actually take a donor tend and use the Palm
- 10:33Speaker 5: Mayris longest, which is one that's kind of an access
- 10:35Speaker 5: reliment at the risk, and you make a new ligament.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Now with advances now there is also a procedure where
- 10:41Speaker 5: you do what's called an internal brace, where sometimes you
- 10:43Speaker 5: can repair the old ligament and then put some extra
- 10:45Speaker 5: bracing with it, like a kind of almost an internal
- 10:47Speaker 5: stitch or wire.
- 10:49Speaker 6: Those are a little quicker. So if you've ever hear.
- 10:50Speaker 5: The guy, oh, he had the internal brace, and you'll
- 10:52Speaker 5: see why, some guys do come back a little faster. So,
- 10:54Speaker 5: especially with the younger athlete, you might do that. You
- 10:57Speaker 5: sometimes know you're gonna have to go back down the road.
- 10:59Speaker 5: Though if it's a picture and he keeps pitching, if
- 11:01Speaker 5: you do that when there's a good chance he may
- 11:03Speaker 5: tear that one too, it's not quite as as sturdy historically, So.
- 11:07Speaker 6: There's a lot of variables.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Long story short, and you're right, it's one that we
- 11:10Speaker 5: haven't gotten a lot faster, at least with the primary repair.
- 11:12Speaker 5: And I think it's just because there's so much torque
- 11:15Speaker 5: on that internal elbow when you're throwing that you just
- 11:17Speaker 5: have to let that thing really heal in Well.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Why why pictures though, and not like because like it
- 11:22Speaker 4: could happen in football share, but like you did, it
- 11:24Speaker 4: is so much more common with a picture, it seems
- 11:26Speaker 4: like than a quarterback.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I mean, is it just strictly the throwing motion.
- 11:29Speaker 6: One hundred percent?
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:30Speaker 5: And in fact, even when you look at quarterbacks, most
- 11:32Speaker 5: of the UCL injuries, like you know, quarterback for San
- 11:35Speaker 5: Francisco entered his Georgia. That was the injury that their
- 11:40Speaker 5: guy had. I can't think it's them guys in Miami
- 11:41Speaker 5: this past year. Beck Yeah, yeah, a his injury had
- 11:44Speaker 5: And if you look at both of their injuries, they
- 11:46Speaker 5: were traumatic injuries. Their arm kind of got pulled behind
- 11:48Speaker 5: them and so it wasn't a throwing injury, but you
- 11:51Speaker 5: still needed to throw. Whereas pitchers, there's so much torque
- 11:54Speaker 5: that's put on that inside elbow with that pitching motion.
- 11:56Speaker 5: That's why you don't see a whole lot in position
- 11:58Speaker 5: players either. It's mostly pictures. It's just the velocity, the torque,
- 12:02Speaker 5: the stress you put on that medial elbow over and
- 12:04Speaker 5: over with pitching. It's more that repetitive wear and tear.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Whereas if you look at most quarterbacks, it was more traumatic.
- 12:10Speaker 5: It was something happened like they got tackled funny or
- 12:12Speaker 5: hit funny when they were throwing or something.
- 12:14Speaker 4: So I was looking at the you know, the Major
- 12:16Speaker 4: League spring train and it's coming up and everything, three
- 12:18Speaker 4: different players. I had never heard of this injury. And
- 12:21Speaker 4: there's so much crap in your hand. You know that
- 12:23Speaker 4: the average person doesn't know about. They have all suffered
- 12:25Speaker 4: a broken hammet bone in their hands.
- 12:29Speaker 7: What is that?
- 12:30Speaker 5: So if you think about you have your carble bones
- 12:32Speaker 5: in the hands. If you ever look at an X
- 12:34Speaker 5: ray or a skeleton, you have the long bones in
- 12:36Speaker 5: your forearm that come down and form the wrist, and
- 12:38Speaker 5: then you have these small little bones that are kind
- 12:40Speaker 5: of between those long bones and the wrist and the
- 12:42Speaker 5: long bones in the hand. Those are all your carpal bones,
- 12:45Speaker 5: of which one of them is the hamdmate. It is
- 12:47Speaker 5: one that you'll see injured a lot in sports different mechanisms.
- 12:50Speaker 5: You see it in throwers, You'll see it a lot
- 12:51Speaker 5: in golf when people sometimes kind of if they come
- 12:55Speaker 5: up short and they kind of hit the ground with
- 12:56Speaker 5: the club, sometimes you'll see that injury. That's one of
- 12:58Speaker 5: the kind of classic textbook questions we see. So it's
- 13:01Speaker 5: one of those small bones you have, you have two
- 13:03Speaker 5: rows of those small carbal bones and pretty pretty commonly injured.
- 13:07Speaker 5: It's one of the more common ones. We see that one,
- 13:08Speaker 5: and you know, they can be anything from just a
- 13:11Speaker 5: mild you know, hey, you got to rehabit, brace it.
- 13:13Speaker 5: So sometimes we got to go in and fix some
- 13:14Speaker 5: of those, depending on which one where it is.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Going back to knees real quick before we break, you know,
- 13:20Speaker 4: I mean, anytime there's a knee injury, everybody fears of
- 13:22Speaker 4: the ACL. But I hear hyper extension all the time,
- 13:26Speaker 4: and I'm not quite sure what that occurs, Like.
- 13:28Speaker 2: What is what does that involved?
- 13:29Speaker 5: So hyper extension is so you know, when you straighten
- 13:32Speaker 5: your knee, that's extending it. When you bend it back,
- 13:34Speaker 5: that's flexing it. So if you are fully extended, and
- 13:37Speaker 5: then sort of if you think about if the knee
- 13:39Speaker 5: goes backwards a little bit, that's hyper extension. Sometimes you
- 13:42Speaker 5: can tear something with that, including the ACL. Sometimes it
- 13:44Speaker 5: will tear. Now a lot of times what you're hoping
- 13:46Speaker 5: for is just a bone contusion where the two winds
- 13:48Speaker 5: of the bones hit together.
- 13:48Speaker 6: Bruise each other.
- 13:49Speaker 5: That's your best case scenario with that injury, you can
- 13:52Speaker 5: tear structures inside the knee. Unfortunately, with the hyper extension injury,
- 13:56Speaker 5: you know, I think Willis McGahee is the one. I
- 13:59Speaker 5: always close my eyes and see he had a foot
- 14:01Speaker 5: planted guy hit the front of the knee caused hyper extension.
- 14:03Speaker 5: So that's when I think of just you know, back
- 14:05Speaker 5: in the day when I was younger and something. Don't
- 14:07Speaker 5: probably know who he is, but so yeah, that's that's
- 14:10Speaker 5: based the mechanism it overextends.
- 14:12Speaker 4: All right, well, doctor Stephen Atherage, wealth of information here
- 14:15Speaker 4: and hopefully we'll try to figure out this whole leap
- 14:18Speaker 4: yer thing. Doc even pointed out that it's more than
- 14:20Speaker 4: three hundred and sixty five days in a year. It's
- 14:22Speaker 4: like three sixty five point two, so he even knows
- 14:24Speaker 4: a little bit about the months as well.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Thanks for coming at today, Doc, my pleasure. All right,
- 14:28Speaker 2: we'll take a quick time out on the other side.
- 14:30Speaker 4: We'll be joined by l s U Beach volleyball coach
- 14:33Speaker 4: Russell Brock for a quick segment. Their season begins on Friday.
- 14:36Speaker 4: We're talking about it next here on off the bench,
- 14:39Speaker 4: Off the bench.
- 14:40Speaker 7: Uh.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Somebody that will never blow a lead.

- 14:51Speaker 8: you work with Tommy and the team. They're not gonna
- 14:53Speaker 8: blow a lead. They're just gonna win awards because that's
- 14:56Speaker 8: what they do. They stacked banners. They stacked every year, Bud.
- 15:01Speaker 2: They do want to spread the trophies for every company.
- 15:04Speaker 8: They would never let Canada make it come back either.
- 15:07Speaker 9: Go to go Tommies dot com, Go tommy Is dot com.

- 15:18Speaker 9: If you're building a new house, if you're renovating, maybe
- 15:20Speaker 9: you just gotta want to do a little upgrade on
- 15:23Speaker 9: your doors or change it. You got some rotted windows,
- 15:25Speaker 9: rotted doors, whatever it is.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Anything.
- 15:26Speaker 9: They install lifetime warranty, the best in the business. That's
- 15:29Speaker 9: why they win awards every single year. Go Tommy's dot com.
- 15:46Speaker 10: It's Friday after five guys.
- 15:49Speaker 2: In time, win ahead and win a line for I went.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Off the Bench presented by Hoodental.
- 15:58Speaker 10: Up to now, We're gonna raise a whole lot of
- 16:04Speaker 10: boy than can because there's money in the bank and
- 16:07Speaker 10: some Mars Saturdays.
- 16:08Speaker 4: They passed Welcome back in Wednesday edition of Off the Bench.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Taylor Sharp here with your filling in for Jacob Ester
- 16:14Speaker 4: and Matt Flann, Alanta hillar Real Braxton Erzudo here as well.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Right now, we'll go out to the phone lines. LSU
- 16:20Speaker 4: Beach Volleyball coach Russell Brock joins us this morning. Coach Barrock,
- 16:23Speaker 4: how are.
- 16:24Speaker 7: You couldn't be better on this Wednesday morning?
- 16:28Speaker 2: Great? Great to hear it.
- 16:30Speaker 4: You know last time you joined me, it was before
- 16:32Speaker 4: you guys got out there to the NCAA Championships in
- 16:36Speaker 4: Gulf Shores. I know it didn't go the way you
- 16:38Speaker 4: guys wanted to, but first off, congratulations won't making it
- 16:41Speaker 4: that far. I know you guys fail to cal poly
- 16:44Speaker 4: out there, but coach, you come into the season ranked
- 16:48Speaker 4: number twelve, and I know you guys have turned into
- 16:51Speaker 4: one of the top volleyball programs in the country. But
- 16:54Speaker 4: how do you handle those expectations year in and year out?
- 16:58Speaker 7: Yeah? The the funny thing about that is you know,
- 17:03Speaker 7: twelve is you know, as low as we've been in
- 17:06Speaker 7: a while. So you know, our expectations clearly are higher
- 17:10Speaker 7: than you know, the people who are out there casting votes.
- 17:14Speaker 7: So I think the pressure from within to be great
- 17:18Speaker 7: and honestly that comes from being a part of you know,
- 17:21Speaker 7: athletic department, particularly port that a sport that plays in
- 17:24Speaker 7: the spring, that these greatness all around us like this,
- 17:28Speaker 7: you know, that's that's the expectation and that's the reality.
- 17:32Speaker 7: Like we know that we're in a position with the talent,
- 17:35Speaker 7: with the training, with the facilities of the support, with
- 17:39Speaker 7: just a positive peer pressure that comes from being a
- 17:41Speaker 7: spring sport at LSU that uh, you know, you're you're
- 17:44Speaker 7: gonna be one of the top teams in the country.
- 17:47Speaker 4: You got a lot of returners. I mean I think
- 17:50Speaker 4: it's something like eleven returners from last year's team.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Now you got it. You've got a good bit of
- 17:53Speaker 2: freshmen coming in as well.
- 17:54Speaker 4: But you know, you guys get started and you did
- 17:57Speaker 4: it last year, doing it this year like starting away
- 17:59Speaker 4: from home and I I realized you're not going far.
- 18:01Speaker 2: You're going down there in New Orleans.
- 18:02Speaker 4: But is it good to have a lot of veterans
- 18:05Speaker 4: on the team kind of rely on that experience early on,
- 18:07Speaker 4: like when you're starting away from home.
- 18:09Speaker 7: Yeah. Absolutely, I mean every year is a little bit
- 18:12Speaker 7: different with the makeup of the roster, and this is
- 18:15Speaker 7: probably you know, one of the most returners we've had
- 18:18Speaker 7: since back in like you know, twenty twenty one, where
- 18:22Speaker 7: we had a bunch of people coming back to the COVID.
- 18:25Speaker 7: But it's also i mean half of our roster is
- 18:29Speaker 7: people in their first or second year of competition. So
- 18:32Speaker 7: we've got a great balance of being young and being old,
- 18:35Speaker 7: and I think that that brings, you know, a level
- 18:38Speaker 7: of expectation and an understanding from those older kids, but
- 18:42Speaker 7: there's excitement and there's energy from the younger ones that
- 18:45Speaker 7: it's a really good balance. It's been great for our training.
- 18:48Speaker 7: Everybody's pushing each other, and then obviously heading into the
- 18:51Speaker 7: first weekend, I think there's probably going to be some
- 18:53Speaker 7: people who are a little more comfortable and some people
- 18:55Speaker 7: who you know, have a little more uh, you know, jitters,
- 18:59Speaker 7: and and it's great to have a good group of
- 19:01Speaker 7: kids that can help people settle in and play the
- 19:04Speaker 7: way we've been playing in practice.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Coach, whether it's Skyler Martin Tatum, Finnlssen, Cameron Chandelier. Like,
- 19:12Speaker 4: you got a lot of returners, but like, who are
- 19:14Speaker 4: some of the big name players maybe people keep an
- 19:16Speaker 4: eye on early in the season, like who are you
- 19:18Speaker 4: going to rely on to get this thing started?
- 19:21Speaker 7: Yeah, I think we've got you know, a couple of
- 19:23Speaker 7: those that you mentioned obviously are huge for us. Julius
- 19:27Speaker 7: Prucker is another win that was a freshman last year
- 19:30Speaker 7: and she's made huge strides to be better, more experienced,
- 19:34Speaker 7: really talented this year. With expect her who do really
- 19:37Speaker 7: great things. Aubrio Gorman as a senior who's kind of
- 19:41Speaker 7: on her last legs as far as her eligibility, and
- 19:44Speaker 7: she's played some pivotal roles for US in the last
- 19:47Speaker 7: two seasons. And then you know, Kate Baker is another
- 19:50Speaker 7: one that's been the lineup, has some huge wins. She
- 19:52Speaker 7: and Tatum pulled out a massive winning at USC at
- 19:55Speaker 7: home last year. So those are the kids that you
- 19:58Speaker 7: are returning who are experienced and who've won big matches
- 20:02Speaker 7: for us in the past few years that we expect
- 20:04Speaker 7: to do it again.
- 20:06Speaker 4: I saw that you guys recently added two transfers. Emily
- 20:09Speaker 4: helm of Zeyana Meier, what do you expect from them,
- 20:12Speaker 4: like because they have college experience, but like you're one
- 20:15Speaker 4: here in ben Rouge. You guys are ranked twelve, you
- 20:17Speaker 4: talked about it, you're highly ranked every year. What do
- 20:19Speaker 4: you expect from them? You're one here.
- 20:22Speaker 7: You know, one thing that we expect from them that
- 20:24Speaker 7: they've delivered enormously for us is just the leadership and
- 20:31Speaker 7: the culture that they've added, coming from story programs on
- 20:36Speaker 7: the indoor side and having a lot of success obviously
- 20:39Speaker 7: Emily's coming off on national championship. I mean, the things
- 20:43Speaker 7: that they're able to stay, the credibility that they have
- 20:45Speaker 7: when they even as newbies to our sport. You know,
- 20:50Speaker 7: drive high expectations around them and they have high expectations
- 20:53Speaker 7: for themselves. So I think the biggest thing they've done
- 20:57Speaker 7: so far is they brought in two blockers that we
- 21:01Speaker 7: needed in our training and they've grown in leaps and bounds.
- 21:05Speaker 7: It's crazy to see how fast they've grown, and there's
- 21:09Speaker 7: no doubt that they're going to play a pivotal role
- 21:11Speaker 7: for us this season.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Coach, you were just that's that's actually perfect.
- 21:15Speaker 4: You were just talking about, you know, kind of be
- 21:16Speaker 4: in a new be to the sport going from indoor
- 21:19Speaker 4: to beach. What does a typical transition look like? I mean,
- 21:22Speaker 4: how much different is that like for the average person
- 21:25Speaker 4: that you know, may not know that much beach volleyball
- 21:28Speaker 4: versus regular What does it What does a normal like
- 21:30Speaker 4: learning curve look like for someone that's making that transition.
- 21:34Speaker 7: Yeah, I think it's it's significantly more challenging than people
- 21:39Speaker 7: would expect. If you look at the spots on the
- 21:41Speaker 7: surface and they they look like they're the same thing.
- 21:44Speaker 7: I mean, it's you bump, your set, you spike, you know,
- 21:47Speaker 7: you serve like you have a blocker. You have people
- 21:49Speaker 7: casting and defending. But it really is, uh the way
- 21:55Speaker 7: that your body has to adapt to the surface and
- 21:59Speaker 7: has to adapt to the you know, just conditions the sun,
- 22:02Speaker 7: stand the wind, it really does. The court size is smaller,
- 22:09Speaker 7: you have to be well rounded, you can't just do
- 22:11Speaker 7: certain skills. And typically into a players that come off there,
- 22:14Speaker 7: they're pretty refined in the skill set that they need
- 22:18Speaker 7: to be great at. And then there's another skill set
- 22:20Speaker 7: that they really don't even happen master because somebody else
- 22:23Speaker 7: is going to do that for them. And so when
- 22:25Speaker 7: you step into the sand, and you've got to do
- 22:26Speaker 7: it all. You have to do it all excellently. That's
- 22:29Speaker 7: a lot of pressure. And then to do it on
- 22:31Speaker 7: a surface that is completely foreign to your body. Just
- 22:34Speaker 7: teaching your body how to jump and move on a
- 22:37Speaker 7: surface that is not solid like you've done for your
- 22:40Speaker 7: entire life, it's really challenging, and typically that process is
- 22:44Speaker 7: a lot of frustration initially, and then as your body
- 22:48Speaker 7: starts to catch on and your skill set starts to build,
- 22:51Speaker 7: you really hit a pretty quickstcent, but you have to
- 22:55Speaker 7: survive until until that kind of turning point. And so
- 23:00Speaker 7: they've done a great job of really grinding in that
- 23:02Speaker 7: in that first initial phase and super proud of them
- 23:05Speaker 7: for that.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Post Beach Volleyball coach of Russell Brock our guest right now, Coach,
- 23:09Speaker 4: I understand it's it's not a ton of travel involved
- 23:12Speaker 4: for you guys going out to New Orleans, but I mean,
- 23:15Speaker 4: what does a typical week look like for you guys
- 23:18Speaker 4: going away from home? I mean, you play a ton
- 23:20Speaker 4: of games and it will be on the road, Like,
- 23:22Speaker 4: what does a typical week look.
- 23:23Speaker 7: Like for you ll thankfully money grow is this past
- 23:28Speaker 7: weekend and not this coming weekend.
- 23:30Speaker 11: It'll be a lot.
- 23:31Speaker 7: More distraction heading down that way. But uh, you know,
- 23:34Speaker 7: we're we're going to head out tomorrow and we'll get
- 23:36Speaker 7: down there and we'll train in that facility, and then
- 23:39Speaker 7: it's it's a business trip. You know, it's not far
- 23:41Speaker 7: from home. But one of the reasons why we go
- 23:43Speaker 7: down there and we stay because we don't want to
- 23:47Speaker 7: have any distractions to keep us from really being focused
- 23:51Speaker 7: at opening weekend. And it's a great opportunity to do
- 23:54Speaker 7: that without having to hop on a plane and travel
- 23:57Speaker 7: down to the west of the East Coast, and so
- 24:00Speaker 7: it's a really good way to start. We can have
- 24:03Speaker 7: a lot of fans that are going to make that
- 24:04Speaker 7: trip or even families that live in that area, and
- 24:07Speaker 7: so we expect to, you know, have all the benefits
- 24:13Speaker 7: playing close to home, but also all the challenges of
- 24:17Speaker 7: being on the road and not sleeping in your own
- 24:19Speaker 7: bed and eating meals out, and also the benefit of
- 24:23Speaker 7: just being tight knit with just us. We're all together
- 24:26Speaker 7: all the time, and that's where our strength comes from,
- 24:28Speaker 7: is our ability to be unified and be great together.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Coach one more for you before I get you out
- 24:33Speaker 4: of here. You were actually just talking about you know,
- 24:35Speaker 4: we go on the road, we practice any other team's facilities,
- 24:38Speaker 4: speaking out facilities, you know, I mean I had you
- 24:40Speaker 4: on once last year in the spring and I had
- 24:42Speaker 4: made it out to the Beach Volleyball facility for my
- 24:45Speaker 4: first time being out there, and I was blown away.
- 24:48Speaker 4: I mean, how does your facility right here in bed
- 24:50Speaker 4: Rouge compared to some of those other programs.
- 24:52Speaker 7: I tell you, really, the only facility for beach volleyball
- 24:58Speaker 7: in the country that you ever go to is LSU's.
- 25:02Speaker 7: Then you're going to have your expectation for everybody else
- 25:07Speaker 7: is going to be ruined. We are so blessed and
- 25:10Speaker 7: fortunate to have Death volleyed our our space on campus
- 25:15Speaker 7: with bleachers and shade and great music and food and
- 25:18Speaker 7: drink and big scoreboard lights. All those things are premium.
- 25:24Speaker 7: And thankfully when the program was started, Ennis had just
- 25:27Speaker 7: moved out and so that that shell was sitting there
- 25:31Speaker 7: just waiting for So you know, if you come out,
- 25:34Speaker 7: you're going to be spoiled as far as beach volleyball
- 25:36Speaker 7: fans can experience, and pretty much every everywhere else that
- 25:41Speaker 7: we go and play has you know, maybe one or
- 25:44Speaker 7: two of those aspects, but none of them have all
- 25:48Speaker 7: of that uh sort of experience for fans or for
- 25:51Speaker 7: the teams to the brain and kind of live in
- 25:54Speaker 7: and we all a lot to this community and to
- 25:58Speaker 7: our athletic department for been willing to set us up
- 26:01Speaker 7: in a facility like that.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Coach.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Basically, what I just heard is everybody needs to come
- 26:05Speaker 4: play at LSU because we're the best at everything.
- 26:07Speaker 2: That's that's what I got from that. Coach. Thank you
- 26:11Speaker 2: so much for your time today.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Again, your season gets started this Friday the Green Wave Invitational.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Then you're back on your home court next week for
- 26:20Speaker 4: the Tiger Beach Challenge.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Coach, thanks for your time today and good luck this
- 26:23Speaker 2: upcoming season.
- 26:24Speaker 7: Thank you very much, appreciate the opportunity, and go Tigers.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Absolutely go Tigers. All right, we'll take a quick time
- 26:30Speaker 4: album we get back. Miina Lande will kind of throw
- 26:34Speaker 4: out maybe some position players to watch tonight. We talked
- 26:36Speaker 4: pitching earlier, opportunity for a lot of guys that didn't
- 26:39Speaker 4: throw over the weekend to get some action today this
- 26:42Speaker 4: afternoon against Nichols. We'll kind of toss around maybe some
- 26:45Speaker 4: guys in the field. We might want to see you
- 26:47Speaker 4: that's coming up next you're on. Off the bench.
- 26:49Speaker 8: Off the bench, go to Valley's Vender's Casino and Hotel,
- 26:54Speaker 8: the brand new star of downtown Baton Rouge. It is
- 26:58Speaker 8: brand new and sure like the outside of the building
- 27:01Speaker 8: somewhat might be the same. That's the only thing that
- 27:04Speaker 8: is the same. When you walk in, you'll be blown away.
- 27:07Speaker 8: They have got Vegas style gaming all over the place.
- 27:11Speaker 8: Right when you walk in on the casino floor, they've
- 27:13Speaker 8: got new slot machines. They have got a brand new
- 27:17Speaker 8: drafting sportsbook with an incredible bar that butts up to
- 27:20Speaker 8: this biggest TV I think you've ever seen in your life.
- 27:23Speaker 8: They've got a brand new hotel. Every room got an upgrade.
- 27:27Speaker 8: Everything got an upgrade.
- 27:28Speaker 6: Go check it out. Valley's of Vetterie Casino and Hotel.
- 27:30Speaker 2: That's right, it is. It is Friday, it is the weekend.
- 27:34Speaker 9: If you're looking for something to do, if you're in
- 27:36Speaker 9: baton Aries, the Vetteries area, looking for something to do
- 27:39Speaker 9: with your friends, with your spouse, whatever it is little
- 27:42Speaker 9: date night, go to Valleys of Btnaries Vendaries. You got
- 27:44Speaker 9: an upgrade, twenty five thousand square foot game and facility,
- 27:46Speaker 9: beautiful hotel and restaurants right there Ballets and Betonies.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench presented by Hoodental.
- 28:05Speaker 8: All right, go to Rolses dot com, go see our
- 28:07Speaker 8: friends and uh, well, which location do you go see
- 28:10Speaker 8: them at? Well, you got to find out. You got
- 28:11Speaker 8: to go to the website and see which one is
- 28:13Speaker 8: nearest you. And then once you find that out, we
- 28:15Speaker 8: always talk about it. Man, they've got incredible deals going
- 28:18Speaker 8: on at your local store, and you're gonna be able
- 28:21Speaker 8: to see them at that weekly ad right there on
- 28:23Speaker 8: the home page. Now, we always encourage you go walk in.
- 28:27Speaker 8: You'll be blown away. Right when you walk in all
- 28:30Speaker 8: the things that make Rouses great. You're gonna be welcome
- 28:32Speaker 8: by Kingcakes and all these things that are so Louisiana, right,
- 28:36Speaker 8: and they are so local they're gonna have their own
- 28:38Speaker 8: stuff there. But when we say Louisiana, they're in more
- 28:40Speaker 8: than just Louisiana, across the Gulf coast. We just went
- 28:43Speaker 8: to one in Mobile, Alabama a couple of weeks ago
- 28:46Speaker 8: when we were down there for the Senior Ball. So again,
- 28:48Speaker 8: find that location nearest you.
- 28:50Speaker 2: How do you do that?
- 28:51Speaker 6: You go to Rouses dot.
- 28:52Speaker 9: Com at Rouse's Isam get ready for the tailgating weekend,
- 28:55Speaker 9: Baby do it local at local grocery store.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Go check out your nearest local rouses.
- 29:03Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in Wednesday edition of OTB. Taylor Sharp.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Here with the Elandra Villarrial Braxton Rizzuto, your LSU Tigers
- 29:10Speaker 4: will take on the Nickels, State Colonels and Alec Box
- 29:12Speaker 4: at about one o'clock this afternoon, a little bit earlier
- 29:15Speaker 4: of a game as far as midweeks go, and earlier
- 29:19Speaker 4: in the show we broke down who could potentially started pitching.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Laundra and myself have both kind of throwing our hats
- 29:24Speaker 4: into the ring for Cooper Williams. But look, there's a
- 29:26Speaker 4: number of options. Zion Theopolis is an option. Danny Lochenmeyer
- 29:32Speaker 4: will see him in some capacity. Connor Binge has yet
- 29:34Speaker 4: to pitch, Like you're gonna see a lot of guys
- 29:36Speaker 4: that you did not see in the opening weekend, but
- 29:39Speaker 4: that kind of rings true to the field as well,
- 29:41Speaker 4: not just on the mound. And I wanted to kind of,
- 29:44Speaker 4: you know, real quick look at maybe some position players
- 29:47Speaker 4: to watch here against Nichols, because again, I think this
- 29:50Speaker 4: is a team that LSU can have a lot of
- 29:52Speaker 4: success against a lot of valuable in game reps. For
- 29:55Speaker 4: some players that maybe necessarily did not get in there
- 29:57Speaker 4: a ton over the weekend. Now, the first name I'm
- 30:02Speaker 4: gonna mention is Mason Braun, And I know what you're thinking, Yes,
- 30:04Speaker 4: he played a ton over the weekend, but he didn't
- 30:06Speaker 4: play a ton in the field. He was your DH
- 30:09Speaker 4: over the weekend, and he was great in that spot.
- 30:12Speaker 4: I would just really like to see what he's got defensively.
- 30:16Speaker 4: We've seen the performance at the plate. Remember this guy
- 30:18Speaker 4: was the number one first baseman in high school last season.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Now Zach York has that spot right now. But look,
- 30:26Speaker 4: I mean Mason Braun, he's a guy that can maybe
- 30:28Speaker 4: make some things happen for you. He's also listed his
- 30:32Speaker 4: outfield as well. He played there a little bit in
- 30:33Speaker 4: some of the false scrimmages. You have your outfield depth,
- 30:39Speaker 4: Like you know your starters. You know Derek Curiel, Chris
- 30:42Speaker 4: Stanfield when he's healthy, and Jake Brown. There's going to
- 30:45Speaker 4: be your three starters, some combination of those guys behind them.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Though it's a little bit of a question mark to me,
- 30:52Speaker 4: Mason Brawn could fill one of those roles if given
- 30:55Speaker 4: the opportunity. Look, there's so many guys to mention, Landro
- 31:00Speaker 4: will come to you real quick, like you know, whether
- 31:02Speaker 4: it's somebody that hasn't gotten it bad, somebody in the field,
- 31:05Speaker 4: Like who's somebody for Nicols?
- 31:07Speaker 2: You're like, I want to see what that.
- 31:08Speaker 11: Guy's get I'd like to see a little more of
- 31:10Speaker 11: Omar Cerno behind the plate and see what he looks
- 31:13Speaker 11: like back there, because Jay, if you've noticed, likes to
- 31:17Speaker 11: kind of like match up the catchers with the pictures,
- 31:20Speaker 11: Like did it with Paul Skeins. He gave him like
- 31:24Speaker 11: the little uh. It was usually Travinsky because he was taller.
- 31:28Speaker 2: I think Aaron Beatty did it with.
- 31:31Speaker 11: So he kind of likes to match up the catchers
- 31:33Speaker 11: with the pictures. So I would like to see a
- 31:35Speaker 11: little more from Omar Serna. I know, Kate, Aaron Beatty
- 31:38Speaker 11: has definitely made a leap this season from last season
- 31:42Speaker 11: behind the plate and at the plate. But what we
- 31:46Speaker 11: saw from Omar when he was in the DH, I
- 31:50Speaker 11: know he didn't do too well Sunday, but I think
- 31:52Speaker 11: it was either Friday or Saturday that he looked good
- 31:55Speaker 11: at the plate, So I would like to see a little.
- 31:56Speaker 12: Bit more out of him.
- 31:58Speaker 11: I agree that Mason Brawn I do want to see him,
- 32:00Speaker 11: but he could play in the outfield, right.
- 32:02Speaker 12: So right, I don't know.
- 32:04Speaker 4: I think i'd actually prefer him in the outfield just
- 32:05Speaker 4: because you don't have any you don't even be proven
- 32:07Speaker 4: depth behind your top three guys. I mean, you have
- 32:10Speaker 4: bodies there, But what about Daniel Harden. Like he's a
- 32:14Speaker 4: guy that a lot of people haven't really talked about,
- 32:17Speaker 4: but you know, he comes from McLennon Community College out
- 32:20Speaker 4: in Waco. He had three fifty four last year on
- 32:23Speaker 4: the community college level, I mean sixteen doubles, three triples,
- 32:27Speaker 4: twelve homers. The guy had fifty nine RBIs. Again, that's
- 32:30Speaker 4: a guy that could give you depth in the outfield.
- 32:33Speaker 4: He got in there Sunday. He didn't get a hit,
- 32:35Speaker 4: but he did draw a walk and score a run.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Like that's a guy maybe maybe get his feet wet
- 32:40Speaker 4: a little bit against Nichols.
- 32:41Speaker 11: If Chris Stanfield's not gonna play, maybe we can see
- 32:46Speaker 11: Mason Braun and maybe we can see someone like Daniel Harden, which, yeah,
- 32:50Speaker 11: he's intriguing.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean he's a guy that you know, it
- 32:53Speaker 4: was kind of a little bit under the radar, but
- 32:55Speaker 4: and I get it, I know it's the community college level.
- 32:57Speaker 4: He's coming up in competition, but and he's prove it
- 33:00Speaker 4: on the college level more than a lot of these
- 33:01Speaker 4: high school guys. The the guy I really want to
- 33:05Speaker 4: see gets extended out. And our guy that was on
- 33:09Speaker 4: the wrong side of the motor boat celebration, mister John
- 33:12Speaker 4: Pearson celebration.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Oh my god, I was so incredible.
- 33:16Speaker 4: I saw a post yesterday and it kind of summed
- 33:19Speaker 4: up this state perfectly. It said, Louisiana sports and Louisiana
- 33:24Speaker 4: sports fans really don't care what other people think.
- 33:27Speaker 12: At all, and I was like, not at all.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Okay, was that the first home run celebration or the second?
- 33:32Speaker 12: I think?
- 33:32Speaker 11: Wait, so I think it was the second because Zach
- 33:35Speaker 11: York hit one. Then well, because wasn't it Jake Brown
- 33:39Speaker 11: Brown Zach had I think the first home run today?
- 33:42Speaker 2: He well, Jake hab too that not No.
- 33:44Speaker 11: I know, but wasn't I think Zach hit it before?
- 33:47Speaker 11: So I think that was the second celebration. I don't remember,
- 33:50Speaker 11: but it was hilarious.
- 33:52Speaker 4: It was elite, unexpected, kind of subtle, as subtle as
- 33:56Speaker 4: you could be, but also everybody kind of knew what
- 33:59Speaker 4: was went on. So look, I mean John Pearson. He's
- 34:02Speaker 4: a guy that last year he played in twenty seven games.
- 34:05Speaker 4: He batted two thirty eight On the year, he had
- 34:09Speaker 4: a double, a, two home runs, seven RBI. Now he
- 34:12Speaker 4: can play third base. That's that's kind of what he
- 34:15Speaker 4: was listed at last year. But a little bit of
- 34:17Speaker 4: outfield as well. So that's a guy a lot like
- 34:20Speaker 4: Mason Brown could play infield, can play outfield. I got
- 34:23Speaker 4: a pinch hit, got in as a pinch hitter multiple
- 34:26Speaker 4: games over the weekend. He did come away with one
- 34:28Speaker 4: hit in those that bat. So you've seen a little
- 34:32Speaker 4: bit from him over the weekend. You've seen again a
- 34:34Speaker 4: lot more from him. Last year he played in twenty
- 34:36Speaker 4: seven games. But John Peterson could take that next step,
- 34:40Speaker 4: I mean Pearson, John Pearson. If John Pearson could take
- 34:43Speaker 4: that next step, I mean, I think Trink Carraway's got
- 34:47Speaker 4: third lockdown. But if you have to mix and match him,
- 34:50Speaker 4: you can. I mean, we saw Caraway play a little
- 34:52Speaker 4: bit of second base. You saw his versatility. John Pearson
- 34:56Speaker 4: just provides you with more depth outfield. Infield. We talk
- 35:00Speaker 4: about the depth of the pigeon staff. The depth of
- 35:02Speaker 4: the infield is there. You just need to get these guys,
- 35:06Speaker 4: some reps like Jack Rucker and Ethan Klaus. We talked
- 35:09Speaker 4: about them on Monday. They both got there an extended
- 35:12Speaker 4: time on Sunday, it was in the middle of the infield.
- 35:15Speaker 4: I think they're both interchangeable. Like Ethan Klaus was a
- 35:19Speaker 4: highly recruited shortstop a year ago in high school. He
- 35:22Speaker 4: played second On Sunday, they had Jack Ruckert in their shortstop. Well,
- 35:26Speaker 4: Jack Rugert on Monday against Kent State, he got a
- 35:30Speaker 4: little bit of action at second base. Those guys are interchangeable.
- 35:33Speaker 4: Like the depth of this team, the versatility of these players,
- 35:38Speaker 4: I like it.
- 35:39Speaker 12: Now.
- 35:39Speaker 4: I'll ask you this, Elantra. You know we didn't see
- 35:43Speaker 4: Curiel starting the season in lead off. They switched it Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
- 35:48Speaker 2: He's been there.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Jay does like the tinker within the lineup in a
- 35:52Speaker 4: game like this early in the season, midweek game against
- 35:56Speaker 4: an end state opponent. How much Team Green do you
- 35:58Speaker 4: think we're gonna see tonight? Like as far as our
- 36:00Speaker 4: I guess this afternoon, as far as like who's in
- 36:03Speaker 4: what order? I mean, I think the normal guys will
- 36:04Speaker 4: get the start, but like where are they.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Going to be?
- 36:07Speaker 12: Uh?
- 36:07Speaker 11: I think in terms of the lineup, I don't think
- 36:09Speaker 11: you'll see too much changing, just because it's been working
- 36:12Speaker 11: so well lately. Maybe some here and there, but yeah,
- 36:16Speaker 11: he does like to tinker. But I just I think
- 36:18Speaker 11: it's working so well that I'm not sure how much
- 36:21Speaker 11: of it you'll see moved around.
- 36:23Speaker 4: To me, this is a game where, like, like you
- 36:25Speaker 4: mentioned Omar Serna, I would love to see you Amarserna
- 36:27Speaker 4: in this game. I feel like this is a game
- 36:28Speaker 4: Kate will get to start play maybe like the first
- 36:30Speaker 4: two innings Omar Serna the rest of the way, Like
- 36:32Speaker 4: the way Aaron Bed's hitting the ball, I mean he
- 36:36Speaker 4: could he could use a day off. He's called a
- 36:38Speaker 4: lot of baseballs. I mean, you played four games in
- 36:40Speaker 4: four days. This will be your fifth game over a
- 36:43Speaker 4: six day period. A guy Aaron Beidi needs a little
- 36:45Speaker 4: bit of rest. I think you're going to see an
- 36:46Speaker 4: extended outing from Umar Serna. I think you'll see Mason
- 36:50Speaker 4: Brawn in some capacity. You know, Landra both talk about him,
- 36:53Speaker 4: whether he fills in it at first. If they do
- 36:56Speaker 4: decide to pull Zac York at some point in this game,
- 36:58Speaker 4: because he fill in the outfield, Stanfield still dealing with
- 37:01Speaker 4: that injury. John Pearson a guy we saw last year
- 37:04Speaker 4: in twenty seven games a year ago. I was a
- 37:06Speaker 4: talented squad a year ago, and I get most of
- 37:08Speaker 4: them were midweek, they were non con games. But Jay
- 37:12Speaker 4: trusted him enough to put him out there. As a freshman.
- 37:14Speaker 4: You got to expect a year under his belt in
- 37:17Speaker 4: this program. Jay probably trust him even more. So that's
- 37:20Speaker 4: a guy to watch as well. And then again, kind
- 37:22Speaker 4: of going back to the pitchers before we break here,
- 37:25Speaker 4: the guys who did not throw over the weekend Freshman
- 37:28Speaker 4: Reagan Ricken and Zion Theopolis did not throw a single
- 37:31Speaker 4: pitch over the weekend. They are candidates to start this game.
- 37:35Speaker 4: My preference, Lundra's preference Cooper Williams for maybe like an
- 37:38Speaker 4: inning or two. I mean he threw two and two
- 37:39Speaker 4: thirds innings over the weekend. One hit, one run, five
- 37:43Speaker 4: k's no walks, pretty good. I want to see what
- 37:46Speaker 4: he's got as a starter, because whether it's a case
- 37:48Speaker 4: of Evans, whether it's a William Schmidt that in that
- 37:51Speaker 4: weekend rotation may not be set in stone. You also
- 37:55Speaker 4: have Connor bench. You haven't seen him. I think you'll
- 37:57Speaker 4: see him in some capacity Locke and Meyer. Can Santiago
- 38:01Speaker 4: Garcia and Zach Cowen get in there and kind of
- 38:04Speaker 4: get their confidence back after tough first out over the weekend.
- 38:08Speaker 4: A lot of things to keep an eye on again,
- 38:10Speaker 4: lsu Versus Nichols in the box one pm this afternoon,
- 38:14Speaker 4: we will take a quick time out. Coming back, we'll

- 40:57Speaker 2: Welcome back in final segment.
- 40:59Speaker 4: I were number two here on a Wednesday edition of
- 41:01Speaker 4: Off the Bench Tayler show up here with you Ladravilla
- 41:03Speaker 4: Royal Reactions Versuto on this Wednesday brought to you by
- 41:06Speaker 4: Hood Dental. Why do people hate Nate Yeski? Still I'm
- 41:11Speaker 4: reading I'm reading comments in the chat.
- 41:14Speaker 11: I truly can't tell if it like they're trolling or
- 41:17Speaker 11: being for real.
- 41:18Speaker 12: I just keep seeing one of them is being for real.
- 41:20Speaker 2: He keeps seeing early season Yesky sucks. Like when Yesky
- 41:24Speaker 2: was hired, it was considered a home run.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Higher and elandra all Nate Yeski's doll and has had
- 41:29Speaker 4: the staff lead the SEC in strikeouts his first two years,
- 41:32Speaker 4: and they won a national championship last year?
- 41:34Speaker 2: What more do they need to do?
- 41:36Speaker 12: He also was really good at Oregon State. Yeah, he's
- 41:40Speaker 12: won multiple Like I don't, he's been in multiple college ones.
- 41:45Speaker 8: I don't.
- 41:46Speaker 12: Yeah, I don't.
- 41:49Speaker 11: Like everybody knows, I've been like the biggest Nate Yeesky
- 41:52Speaker 11: supporter and defender since he got on campus. Even when
- 41:56Speaker 11: everybody turned on him. What was it a year before last?
- 42:00Speaker 2: It was his first year.
- 42:02Speaker 12: I was like taking bullets for him. I was like,
- 42:06Speaker 12: get behind me, Nate.
- 42:07Speaker 4: I mean, I just I don't really understand what else
- 42:10Speaker 4: the guy has to do. You've led the you've led
- 42:12Speaker 4: the SEC and strikeouts as a staff both years he's
- 42:15Speaker 4: been here. You won a national championship last year. If
- 42:18Speaker 4: you guys don't remember those games, it was thanks in
- 42:21Speaker 4: large part to your two dominant pictures Kate Anderson and
- 42:23Speaker 4: Anthony Ions and and.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Then you did a really good job Week one. I don't.
- 42:28Speaker 4: I don't really understand what I'm missing here in terms
- 42:32Speaker 4: of all the Nate Yeski hey, but whatever, maybe some
- 42:34Speaker 4: people do.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's a that's a troll. But I mean, look,
- 42:42Speaker 2: you hear it a lot.
- 42:43Speaker 4: It's not just here like you've heard it for two years.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Just it baffles me.
- 42:47Speaker 4: This topic of landro so it last night and as
- 42:50Speaker 4: you've readden all over it like this is something I
- 42:51Speaker 4: could see you do in a deep dive in Okay, Okay,
- 42:54Speaker 4: I am g Academy in Florida Football power. Everybody goes
- 42:58Speaker 4: there throughout the country to go there and train.
- 43:00Speaker 12: I feel like I saw something.
- 43:02Speaker 4: IMG has agreed to pay a one point seven million
- 43:06Speaker 4: dollar settlement for accepting tuition from two students with ties
- 43:12Speaker 4: to the Mexican drug card.
- 43:13Speaker 12: G Hey, I did see this. Why does this have
- 43:16Speaker 12: me written all over it?
- 43:17Speaker 4: Because you love a good you love a good internet
- 43:19Speaker 4: rabbit hole, I mean, you love as problem.
- 43:22Speaker 2: There has to be.
- 43:23Speaker 4: There has to be more to the surface than what
- 43:25Speaker 4: we're seeing. Like so, basically, over five consecutive years, IMG
- 43:30Speaker 4: Academy repeatedly the number of transactions with two individuals who
- 43:36Speaker 4: have ties to this uh drug cartel organization. According to
- 43:41Speaker 4: IMG Academy's continued tuition payments, where the two students resulted
- 43:44Speaker 4: in eighty nine violations for counter narcotic sanctions and uh
- 43:49Speaker 4: they got to pay one point seven million dollars. Not
- 43:54Speaker 4: something I thought I would see. Uh, I mean was
- 43:57Speaker 4: this intentional? Was it not intentional?
- 44:00Speaker 12: I don't know, but I could definitely read more about it.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw it last night.
- 44:07Speaker 4: It looks like they were The two students were enrolled
- 44:10Speaker 4: from twenty eighteen to twenty twenty two, so it had
- 44:14Speaker 4: been a few years now.
- 44:15Speaker 2: But yeah, one point seven.
- 44:17Speaker 4: Million for accepting tuition from a drug cartel. Yeah, one
- 44:23Speaker 4: of the two issans. It was a ninety eight thousand
- 44:25Speaker 4: dollars for one student and one hundred and two thousand
- 44:29Speaker 4: for the other. It was provided money and services from
- 44:34Speaker 4: the drug cartel. And if you're thinking that's a lot
- 44:36Speaker 4: of money, IMG is like like if you've ever seen
- 44:38Speaker 4: their athletic facilities, Yeah, it's incredible. So ninety eight thousand
- 44:41Speaker 4: dollars for one student, one hundred and two thousand from
- 44:43Speaker 4: the other. The names of the students haven't been released.
- 44:48Speaker 4: I don't know which sport this is for. If it's
- 44:50Speaker 4: for a sport, I mean it's IMG, so I would
- 44:52Speaker 4: imagine that it is soccer, sorry, soccer base. It might

- 45:56Speaker 4: Is just killing Well they don't, they don't show any
- 45:58Speaker 4: of it, but I mean it's uh the way they

- 46:04Speaker 4: group kind of one person saw the video, it goes
- 46:07Speaker 4: to the next and the next they start a Facebook
- 46:09Speaker 4: group and they like track down this guy to another country, Yeah.
- 46:12Speaker 2: And like find him. He gets ready. Like the whole
- 46:14Speaker 2: thing is fascinating.
- 46:15Speaker 4: And it's because they joined like a Facebook and Reddit
- 46:18Speaker 4: group to to figure.
- 46:19Speaker 12: This guy out hand account.
- 46:21Speaker 4: And then they did, they found somebody who like knew
- 46:23Speaker 4: who he was or something like that.
- 46:25Speaker 11: You remember real fast, do you remember, like a couple
- 46:26Speaker 11: of weeks ago, there was a teacher in like West
- 46:28Speaker 11: Virginia or Virginia or something like that, and they were
- 46:33Speaker 11: looking for him and they couldn't find him. Yeah, and
