- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31We are out here. The sun is up.
- 0:33It's a tad bit later. It's like what 50 minutes later
- 0:36than I normally post and the girls are actually I open the
- 0:40doors and they scrambled, ate their breakfast and they're out
- 0:43already walking around the farm. You're going to hear the
- 0:46Roosters any minute. But in any event, today we are
- 0:50talking about the progress of the garden today so that I can
- 0:54give you a little bit of an update.
- 0:56So the garden overall has been growing like crazy because the
- 1:01weather has been the right temperatures.
- 1:04I've seen lots of things happen as far as we've got tomatoes on
- 1:09plants already, we've got cucumbers on plants, we've got
- 1:12squash on plants. The herbs are going crazy.
- 1:15It's been the right temperatures, really good
- 1:17humidity, even like the very even humidity, and everything's
- 1:22going to town. Now where this becomes tricky in
- 1:25my mind is always OK. I see some things thriving and
- 1:29some things not thriving, and I'm looking and they're all in
- 1:31the same conditions, but some are thriving and some are not.
- 1:34And it's crazy because some of them like going to use the
- 1:37tomatoes because that's what I'm always like scoped in on my
- 1:40tomatoes. So I've got some tomatoes, same
- 1:43breed, same exact conditions, same area.
- 1:47Some of them are really strong and going well and some of them
- 1:51do not look that way. Some of them look weak and
- 1:54they're not as vibrant and one would say, OK, what's the
- 1:57reason? And here's the truth, I don't
- 1:59know. I can't figure it out.
- 2:01So I'm constantly experimenting. Today I'm about to go in and I'm
- 2:05going to feed everybody with a fish fertilizer.
- 2:08I'm going to go. And these are genuinely have all
- 2:12been treated the exact same way. Some are, some are not.
- 2:16And this is the point. Sometimes, even when you have
- 2:19conditions that are absolutely right, the perfect conditions,
- 2:23some people will thrive and some people won't.
- 2:25And then you have to figure out, OK, what is happening?
- 2:29Why is it that one can thrive and one cannot?
- 2:31And it's the same thing like going to college.
- 2:33It's right for some people, for some it's not.
- 2:35For some people. It's like, OK, I need to just go
- 2:38into, you know, a trade school. I need to go into doing
- 2:40something different. It's we are constantly
- 2:44throughout our lives, we can all be in the same conditions and
- 2:48some of us will do well and some of us won't.
- 2:50So if you're a leader and you're listening to this and you're
- 2:52looking at your team and you're saying why are some of you doing
- 2:55so well and some of you not doing so well?
- 2:58Remember, it's the same analogy. I've got some plants that are
- 3:02doing exceedingly well in these conditions and some that are
- 3:05not. And maybe it's just not meant
- 3:09for them to be in this kind of heat during the day because even
- 3:12though it's not that hot yet, and it could just be that it's
- 3:16already too warm for them. Maybe I bought seeds.
- 3:20It's totally possible because I get hooked on looking at what
- 3:23the end result is. And I've tried to be better with
- 3:25this. So I don't set myself up to
- 3:27fail. But there is a grand possibility
- 3:30that I may have done something that may have caused them just
- 3:33by buying a seed that's not right for this zone or this
- 3:37area. I'm in a zone 8B.
- 3:40And so that is very subtropical. And it, and it has, you know, a
- 3:44lot of humidity and high heat, not that we're there yet, but
- 3:47we're, we've had days that were already up in the 80s.
- 3:49So those, even though they're minor condition shifts, it can
- 3:54be major to something if it's not right.
- 3:56So as you lead your people and your teams, it's super important
- 4:00to remember that you've got to look at, even though it's like
- 4:03the right conditions for some, it's not going to be the right
- 4:06conditions for everyone. I've got lettuce in there right
- 4:09now. And for some reason, I tried
- 4:12three different kinds of lettuce.
- 4:13No, actually four different kinds of lettuce.
- 4:15And I can't get them to pop up now.
- 4:18I may have put them out too late, like it's not cool enough
- 4:23for them to sprout. We're going to see.
- 4:25And if I have to, I'll try a completely different kind.
- 4:27I did pelleted seeds. There's some of them are like
- 4:31I've only had like out of the hundreds of heads that I've
- 4:33planted, probably like 4 have come up.
- 4:36Why befuddling? I don't know why?
- 4:39So I have to keep staying patient and keep testing,
- 4:43patient testing, patient testing, and then I'll be able
- 4:46to figure it out. But the best thing to do, the
- 4:49best thing you can do for yourself and for everyone around
- 4:51you that you're working with leading, always double check and
- 4:54say I've got to look at the conditions and say, you know
- 4:58what? Just because the conditions are
- 4:59right for one doesn't mean it's the right for others.
- 5:01So you have to pivot and be able to say, OK, let me change my
- 5:05approach. Let me change my approach.
- 5:06Let me and change my approach because as you do that, you
- 5:09become a better leader, you become a better parent, you
- 5:11become a better partner. It's always about that.
- 5:14All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:17will see you all tomorrow. Bye.
