- 0:00Speaker 1: Not quite Eagles football yet, but they were on the
- 0:03Speaker 1: field for the mandatory odas today. You heard from Nick
- 0:07Speaker 1: Sirianni earlier this afternoon, and Adam Kaplan is here for
- 0:10Speaker 1: today's Football at four and the future of the offense
- 0:14Speaker 1: of the Philadelphia Eagles. We're going to take a look
- 0:16Speaker 1: at some of the contracts and some of the ways
- 0:18Speaker 1: these guys will fit in some key players at them
- 0:21Speaker 1: for this Eagles offense.
- 0:22Speaker 3: What's going on, man, Mike.
- 0:25Speaker 2: That's actually the subject of this week's shows, are going
- 0:30Speaker 2: inside each position and explaining what they look like currently
- 0:33Speaker 2: in terms of player contracts and offense, and then also
- 0:37Speaker 2: not for this just this season, for the future, because
- 0:40Speaker 2: contracts matter. This is our ninth year we specialize in
- 0:44Speaker 2: this stuff, and we explained in terms that everybody can understand.
- 0:47Speaker 2: When could the club get out of the deal if
- 0:49Speaker 2: the player doesn't perform, And that is clearly going to
- 0:52Speaker 2: come up with some of these deals. And then they're
- 0:53Speaker 2: guys like Devonte Smith, who but he signed the deal
- 0:57Speaker 2: over two years ago, twenty five million year. We talked
- 0:59Speaker 2: about that it was a light deal. He goes got
- 1:02Speaker 2: the advantage of it. Now, DeVante Smith, Mike is somewhere
- 1:06Speaker 2: between twenty and twenty seven in terms of highest paid receiver.
- 1:13Speaker 2: They have to adjust the contract. But like we'll get
- 1:16Speaker 2: to that, but that's part of this discussion. It's not
- 1:19Speaker 2: just guys who have some challenges and you have to
- 1:21Speaker 2: see what it looks like and how they perform will
- 1:24Speaker 2: determine whether to come back. But there are guys like
- 1:26Speaker 2: DeVante Smith who needs to get his contract with justin.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll kind of dive into that. Jeff and I
- 1:31Speaker 1: were talking a little bit about some contractual stuff yesterday
- 1:34Speaker 1: when it regarded you know, the AJ Brown savings. What
- 1:38Speaker 1: that has allows them to kind of do. I mean,
- 1:42Speaker 1: I don't know, can they make the trade for Jonathan
- 1:44Speaker 1: Grenard and then extend them without the AJ Brown trade
- 1:47Speaker 1: coming down the pipeline, And if they could, how much
- 1:50Speaker 1: money's left over for some of the guys we're going
- 1:52Speaker 1: to hit on here, including Quinn and Mitchell, Cooper, Degene,
- 1:56Speaker 1: Jalen Carter, and of course the big one. Let's start
- 1:59Speaker 1: with the quarterback, Jalen Hurts. I mean, this contract is
- 2:02Speaker 1: going to be under the microscope.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It is Jalen Hurts. Mike is signed through twenty twenty eight,
- 2:07Speaker 2: so he's got this season in two seasons more, he'll
- 2:10Speaker 2: make fifty one million this season. It's all guaranteed, so
- 2:15Speaker 2: you know he needs to play well because at twenty
- 2:18Speaker 2: seven the cash is also fifty one million, but just
- 2:24Speaker 2: under twenty three million is full of guaranteed, so it's
- 2:27Speaker 2: not like deals with cot him if he doesn't play well.
- 2:29Speaker 2: But if he doesn't play well and the team doesn't
- 2:33Speaker 2: play well, you know overall they're not good and he's
- 2:35Speaker 2: a big reason why. Then you can see the potential
- 2:38Speaker 2: with them trading them. So this is a big season
- 2:40Speaker 2: for him. And after this season in twenty eighth also
- 2:45Speaker 2: will make fifty one point five million, so he's got
- 2:49Speaker 2: over one hundred and fifty million coming over his final
- 2:52Speaker 2: three seasons. Then, look, he needs to bounce back and
- 2:56Speaker 2: it's going to be challenging for him because this is
- 2:58Speaker 2: a brand new offense yet again.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yet again, and we'll see if he gets paid yet
- 3:03Speaker 1: again for his role in this offense.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Adam.
- 3:07Speaker 1: We know that Saquon Barkley signed an extension before last
- 3:12Speaker 1: year coming off a mass of two thousand yard year.
- 3:15Speaker 1: There were people like myself who were like, huh, you
- 3:18Speaker 1: didn't have to do that. But they did, so what's
- 3:22Speaker 1: his future look like?
- 3:24Speaker 2: So, Mike, they signed him to a two year extension
- 3:27Speaker 2: a Saquon Barkley. The date of execution was March tenth,
- 3:31Speaker 2: twenty twenty five, so just over a year ago. After
- 3:34Speaker 2: one year Mike, after his first season, this is like unprecedented.
- 3:39Speaker 2: The Eagles decided they were an extended his contract because
- 3:42Speaker 2: he had the best season in NFL history from the
- 3:44Speaker 2: start of it for the Super Bowl. I mean, it
- 3:46Speaker 2: was obviously incredible and special and Sequon who, by the way,
- 3:51Speaker 2: just turned twenty nine February. If you look at his
- 3:54Speaker 2: contract like I did, he signed through twenty twenty eight.
- 3:57Speaker 2: The guaranteed money that was extended for one more season
- 4:00Speaker 2: him through twenty six expires after the season. So Mike,
- 4:04Speaker 2: it's going to make sixteen point seventy five million this
- 4:06Speaker 2: season right in twenty twenty seven. The total cash is
- 4:09Speaker 2: sixteen million. It's a lot of money. If he just
- 4:12Speaker 2: don't played last season, Mike eat. I mean, you talk
- 4:16Speaker 2: about a round one thousand yards last season around from
- 4:20Speaker 2: the season before, Mike gets a major drop off, So
- 4:23Speaker 2: clearly he's going to have to play well. He didn't
- 4:25Speaker 2: have to get two thousand yards. That's ridiculous, right, But
- 4:29Speaker 2: our own eyes will tell you if he's only running
- 4:32Speaker 2: for twelve hundred yards and it doesn't look good, they're
- 4:35Speaker 2: going to want it to They have three options, ask him,
- 4:37Speaker 2: take a pay cut, cut him, or trade him. And
- 4:41Speaker 2: he's not a quarterback, so I don't see him being
- 4:43Speaker 2: in demand if he's coming off of a tough season
- 4:45Speaker 2: a twenty nine. And by the way, he'll then turn thirty. Okay, Mike,
- 4:49Speaker 2: this coming february's going to turn thirty. How the clock changes, Mike.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And you know some people thought, like you brought up,
- 4:56Speaker 2: like why would they extend them? Why would they do this?
- 4:58Speaker 2: They got a little bit of cap relief, but they
- 5:01Speaker 2: guaranteed another season. And now that those guarantees are up.
- 5:04Speaker 2: So Mike on this list, he's got to play well
- 5:07Speaker 2: to come back to twenty seven.
- 5:08Speaker 3: All right, keep an eye though.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Now that's I think the first time anybody's really kind
- 5:11Speaker 1: of said it so bluntly, is he's got to play
- 5:13Speaker 1: well if he wants to come back. Saquon Barkley, all right,
- 5:18Speaker 1: you hit on Devontae Smith. He's now the lead wide
- 5:21Speaker 1: receiver on this team, and probably an underpaid one, but
- 5:24Speaker 1: big season for him.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Do they have to do something before the season.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, So, Mike, here's the thing, as we discussed on
- 5:31Speaker 2: today's show, a lot of contracts have been either extended
- 5:35Speaker 2: at the receiver position or justin Nico Collins, who's really good.
- 5:40Speaker 2: He's what we call an ex receiver in ironically a
- 5:43Speaker 2: similar offensive West Coast offense that the Texans run the
- 5:46Speaker 2: Eagles are going to run. And he's our quote unquote
- 5:49Speaker 2: number one receiver. Now, he's had a lot of injuries,
- 5:51Speaker 2: but he's been a great story of development. He's a
- 5:54Speaker 2: good football player, and he was underpaid. And the Texans
- 6:00Speaker 2: what they did, Mike, is they increase his stalary this year,
- 6:05Speaker 2: fully guaranteed it this year. He had no guarantee money
- 6:08Speaker 2: after the season. The increases pay next year and they
- 6:11Speaker 2: guaranteed it. So when you look at DeVante Smith's deal, right,
- 6:14Speaker 2: and we'll get to a couple other guys, other receivers,
- 6:18Speaker 2: DeVante Smith, Mike is signed through twenty twenty eight this season.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Because the way it's structured, there's gonna be a massive
- 6:26Speaker 2: increase after the season. It's only making fourteen million, it's
- 6:29Speaker 2: all guaranteed after the season. In twenty seven. He's going
- 6:33Speaker 2: to make twenty two million. There's a portion of it
- 6:36Speaker 2: that's guaranteed. Became guaranteed this season. He had what's called
- 6:41Speaker 2: an advanced guarantee on his contract. But that's not the problem.
- 6:44Speaker 2: The problem, Mike is he's vastly underpaid. I mean Jameson Williams,
- 6:48Speaker 2: Mike Jameson Williams, who's a good player, very explosive, but
- 6:51Speaker 2: he's been up and down. He got an extension. He's
- 6:52Speaker 2: going to make over twenty six million. Jackson Smith and
- 6:55Speaker 2: Jigbo's going to make his eyes paid receiver in NFL
- 6:58Speaker 2: history by far, over forty two million. Jeff made a
- 7:01Speaker 2: good point on today's show, which you could hear on
- 7:02Speaker 2: any podcasting platform. If the Eagles don't get ahead of
- 7:06Speaker 2: this because they know they're going to have to do something.
- 7:09Speaker 2: The next set of extensions, by the way, justin Jefferson
- 7:13Speaker 2: making over thirty five million, the next stet all of
- 7:16Speaker 2: are going to get over forty million. All the greape that,
- 7:18Speaker 2: by the way, Jamar Chase is making over forty million.
- 7:22Speaker 2: T Higgins, for goodness sake, Mike T. Higgins is not
- 7:26Speaker 2: even close as good as Devonte. He's making over twenty
- 7:28Speaker 2: eight million. So, Mike, on your point, they need to
- 7:32Speaker 2: and I expect them to make an adjustment on his
- 7:34Speaker 2: contract at very least if they don't extend it. They
- 7:37Speaker 2: One of the things I admire about Howie Roseman and
- 7:39Speaker 2: Jeffrey Lorie is they treat their players with respect. And
- 7:44Speaker 2: I just can't imagine him playing. Look, he's got an agent,
- 7:48Speaker 2: Nicole len it's been around a while. Who also has
- 7:51Speaker 2: who also has Jalen Hurts by the way, and a
- 7:53Speaker 2: lot of prominent players Quinn Williams and others' roster. Yeah
- 7:57Speaker 2: she does, Yeah, she does. And he's got some work
- 8:00Speaker 2: to do here. She's got to get him more money.
- 8:02Speaker 2: That that's got to be a priority.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Adam kaplan of course, football at four. Let's go to
- 8:08Speaker 1: two key guys for this season. One Landon Diggerson, who
- 8:13Speaker 1: was a stud during the Super Bowl run of injuries
- 8:17Speaker 1: clouded his future.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yeap, m Key took it because of what you just
- 8:21Speaker 2: said about the injuries. They cut his pay. He agreed
- 8:25Speaker 2: to it. It was a small it was a small reduction,
- 8:30Speaker 2: but when you look at it after this season, he's
- 8:33Speaker 2: going to make fifteen point five million next season. The
- 8:37Speaker 2: money jumps up to twenty two million, which is again
- 8:40Speaker 2: what DeVante Smith's going to make. DeVante Smith has no
- 8:42Speaker 2: injury history. Now there's going to be a significant amount
- 8:47Speaker 2: of money that becomes fully guaranteed on the third day
- 8:50Speaker 2: of March, just over twenty million. For him to get
- 8:54Speaker 2: that money and to not at least take a pay cut,
- 8:57Speaker 2: he's going to have to play well. He did not
- 8:59Speaker 2: have a good season list because he was hurt. We
- 9:01Speaker 2: know that he's well loved by his teammates, loved by
- 9:03Speaker 2: the organization. But being well loved does that mean you
- 9:08Speaker 2: get paid. You got to perform, and he Landon has
- 9:10Speaker 2: just got to perform and stay on the field. We
- 9:12Speaker 2: know he's done an unbelievable job playing for injury, but
- 9:15Speaker 2: we know about the thoughts of retirement. Those were real.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And he's got this season, next season in twenty eight
- 9:23Speaker 2: and he's got to play well to get that money
- 9:24Speaker 2: next season.
- 9:25Speaker 1: What about his partner at center, Cam Jurgens, another guy
- 9:28Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four. I mean he was drafted, the
- 9:31Speaker 1: handpicked replacement for Jason Kelsey. He played guard and he
- 9:34Speaker 1: moved to center. Obviously last year he did not play well.
- 9:38Speaker 1: We laughed at times that they were better off with
- 9:41Speaker 1: Brett Toast playing and now Jurgens is back, But what
- 9:45Speaker 1: do his future look like?
- 9:47Speaker 2: All right? So Jurgens signed his extension, his four year
- 9:50Speaker 2: extension around the draft last year March twenty issues mean
- 9:53Speaker 2: April twenty fifth, twenty twenty five, and the extended his
- 9:57Speaker 2: deal Mike through twenty twenty nine. Now he's going to
- 10:01Speaker 2: make just under thirteen million this season. It's all guaranteed.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Now next season, Mike, next season they've got a significant
- 10:10Speaker 2: chunk of guaranteed money, just under fifteen million. So he's
- 10:14Speaker 2: going to be in a roster in twenty seven. But
- 10:17Speaker 2: on twenty eight, Mike, he's going to make seventeen million.
- 10:24Speaker 2: There's a guarantee that vested in a third day of
- 10:27Speaker 2: the league year in twenty twenty eight. So I put
- 10:29Speaker 2: it this way with Cam Jurgens. He'll be on the
- 10:32Speaker 2: team of twenty seven, but if he doesn't play well
- 10:34Speaker 2: in twenty seven, then you have to then it's going
- 10:37Speaker 2: to be a discussion, pay cut, release, trade, whatever the
- 10:39Speaker 2: case may be. You can't keep playing paying guys if
- 10:43Speaker 2: they can't stay on the field. And Cam has had
- 10:45Speaker 2: as we outlined when he was drafted, he had lower
- 10:48Speaker 2: body concerns with injury. He says, a great athlete. He
- 10:52Speaker 2: did a great job of playing right guard to get
- 10:55Speaker 2: him on the field. As you remember, he's really good.
- 10:57Speaker 2: He just you're not wrong when you said Brett toath
- 11:01Speaker 2: out performing him. We actually talked about that exact subject
- 11:05Speaker 2: based solely on tape study. I mean, Cam Jurgen's mike
- 11:09Speaker 2: could seemingly he could not bend down because it was
- 11:11Speaker 2: back and you feel for it.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Man.
- 11:13Speaker 2: You hope all the treatment he is getting the same
- 11:15Speaker 2: for Landin that they're going to be good. So you
- 11:18Speaker 2: got to keep an eye on these guys and how
- 11:19Speaker 2: they perform will determine how what their situation is going
- 11:22Speaker 2: to be for the future.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Yep, and the offensive line is a big key by
- 11:26Speaker 1: way today Lane Johnson was kind of admiring this offense.
- 11:31Speaker 1: He said, I've always kind of watched it from afar.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Now I get to plane. It doesn't mean we're going
- 11:34Speaker 1: to be great, but he seems like he's excited. He
- 11:37Speaker 1: also said it was devastating news when he learned out
- 11:40Speaker 1: about Jeff Stoutlin. You wonder how the offensive line room
- 11:43Speaker 1: does feel about that.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and remember the scheme, the offensive line scheme is
- 11:48Speaker 2: going to change. It's going to change completely, as I
- 11:50Speaker 2: understand it. They're going to ask the players to do less.
- 11:53Speaker 2: There'll be more double teaming, They'll they'll have more help.
- 11:56Speaker 2: And Elaine talk to actually talk about that today. I
- 11:59Speaker 2: know we have to see what really looks like. And
- 12:01Speaker 2: it sounds good, but we'll have to see what it
- 12:05Speaker 2: looks like. And again, you know Lane at thirty six,
- 12:09Speaker 2: he's had so many injuries upper and lower body. And
- 12:12Speaker 2: he's going to be a Hall of Famer someday, but
- 12:14Speaker 2: you do wonder can he last? And that that's part
- 12:17Speaker 2: of last season. Why were they so bad for the run?
- 12:20Speaker 1: Well, the reasons though Adam he said he wanted to
- 12:21Speaker 1: come back. He said he didn't want to go out
- 12:23Speaker 1: the way he did last year.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And I I know him a little bit and known
- 12:26Speaker 2: people close to him. I know it's kind of like
- 12:29Speaker 2: with Landon Dickerson, but I didn't Jeff. Jeff made a
- 12:32Speaker 2: good point on our show today about Landon. You never
- 12:35Speaker 2: know what his one hundred percent is or whatever percentage
- 12:38Speaker 2: he could play at. His seventy five percent, Mike, if
- 12:42Speaker 2: that's all he could play out might be one hundred
- 12:44Speaker 2: percent of somebody else, you can accept it, but fifty
- 12:46Speaker 2: percent you can't accept. No one will accept that, and
- 12:49Speaker 2: that's that's what you have to ask. You mentioned Lane Johnson.
- 12:53Speaker 2: We don't know what Lane's best is at thirty six
- 12:56Speaker 2: years old. We don't know what it's going to look like.
- 12:58Speaker 2: But we're going to find out in training.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Camp, and you hope it doesn't turn out like Jason Peters,
- 13:02Speaker 1: where towards the end he just couldn't stay on the field.
- 13:04Speaker 3: He was getting hurt every other at right.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Jason Peters had a lot of injuries, a lot of injuries,
- 13:10Speaker 2: but he also played until he's forty, which is an unheard.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Of Mike, Well, I'm talking about when he was here.
- 13:14Speaker 1: He kept playing after he left here.
- 13:17Speaker 2: But we're hed the achilles and then the retear. That's
- 13:20Speaker 2: how we found out about Big V. We never would
- 13:22Speaker 2: have found out about the Big V Son a NASCAR
- 13:25Speaker 2: tire now, but ten million a year with the Lions.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Yeah, big deal to go to the Lions.
- 13:30Speaker 1: All right, make sure you check out the latest Inside
- 13:32Speaker 1: the Birds podcast. Those are really good ones on all
- 13:35Speaker 1: these contracts because the future of the Eagles is starting
- 13:38Speaker 1: now and it started with that aj Brown trade that
- 13:40Speaker 1: really opened up some cap space and some money for them,
- 13:44Speaker 1: saved him about twenty seven million dollars. Adam Kaplan's back
- 13:48Speaker 1: on Friday. The Eagles are back on the field today
- 13:50Speaker 1: and tomorrow at the Jefferson what is it called the
- 13:53Speaker 1: Jefferson Health.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Health Yes Training Complex.
- 13:58Speaker 3: It's a mouthful. I can't do it every day.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Every time, like you, you brought it up, you weren't sure.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I probably screwed that thing up fifteen. I just it's
- 14:06Speaker 2: too long for me, too.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Long, too much. We've messed it up so many times.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Today we're just calling it to Jeff. There you go.
- 14:13Speaker 2: It's just like the link, yes, like just like Philly Stadium.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yep, yep.
- 14:19Speaker 1: We got the bank, we got the link, and now
- 14:21Speaker 1: the Jeff for Jeffrey Lori who probably built that place.
- 14:25Speaker 1: All right, Adam, Thanks Bundy Football and four powered by
