- 0:27My name is Errol Marx. They call me the mouth.
- 0:29Their Jabba's having problems right now with electric.
- 0:32Hopefully soon he'll pop right in.

- 1:01Yeah, the return of the onesie for like the first time since
- 1:03like the first month you started.
- 1:04What is that Curious George over there, Jabba?
- 1:08We got we got monkey action going on right now.
- 1:11I wish I had some other monkey election, if you know what I
- 1:13mean. Well, where's Brittany?
- 1:16Oh well, she's actually packing. We're after the show.
- 1:19I am actually going to be traveling all the way to
- 1:22Montreal. I'll be driving the 6 1/2 hours.
- 1:25I'll be taking the ride all the way up while she's having her
- 1:29beauty sleep well. I'll be driving all the way up
- 1:32there to Montreal. But.
- 1:33Anyway, What Car are you taking? Hers or yours?
- 1:36No, we rented. We rented a car.
- 1:37Oh, you rented a car? That's right.
- 1:39We're not going to beat up any of our cars.
- 1:40We're just going to rent a car We got AI think we got a Subaru,
- 1:44a big one, one of those big like 7 seaters nice.
- 1:48So yeah so. You're going like, right after
- 1:50the show, like driving the red eye.
- 1:52Yeah, probably. You're wild.
- 1:54I'm a wild person, man. I'm a wild person.
- 1:57But Yep, that's, that's what I'm doing.
- 1:59I'm driving the red eye. Anyways, we called.
- 2:02It I just I just ordered wing stop so.
- 2:05I might stop to wing stop before I get on the road.
- 2:08Anyways, we call this call you shot.
- 2:11I'm not an X as an O's guy, right?
- 2:13I'm not a tactician. I'm a motivator in the classic
- 2:16sense of the word. You know Lombardi, Charles
- 2:18Lindbergh, that nun over in India, like those people?
- 2:21Call your shot a. Big boobs I can.
- 2:26Say, all right, welcome to Call Your Shot.
- 2:28This is our segment. We do this every so often where
- 2:30we're going to make some predictions just out of the blue
- 2:35and we're going to lay them down.
- 2:37I hope not a few of them are going to be absolutely right.
- 2:41Errol, who do you want to go first?
- 2:43I'm going to say the old speech. You're going to go first.
- 2:46All right, so Fish, you've hinted at it the last couple of
- 2:49shows where we've talked about some hockey, the New York
- 2:51Rangers, you've asked him if Errol and myself if they should
- 2:54be sellers or not. Again, I don't think they're
- 2:56going to be drastic sellers. I do agree with Errol on that.
- 2:58But there is one guy I do think it seems like inevitable that's
- 3:00going to be traded at this point and that is our Tammy Panera in
- 3:03the see the team start not seeing eye to eye with his
- 3:05contract situation. He's had a 50 point season, so
- 3:08probably a good time to sell it. And there's five teams
- 3:11interested in his no trade clause.
- 3:12And there's team that loves to go through contact negotiations
- 3:16to get last second trades that are always big.
- 3:18The Lightning, we're the best with the cap, no manipulation in
- 3:20the beginning, but that team is now the Vegas Golden Knights and
- 3:24I think that is where he will be traded to.
- 3:25So the Rangers will trade our Timmy Panera into Vegas.
- 3:28They'll find a way to loop, manipulate the cap again, and
- 3:30Vegas will win the Western Conference.
- 3:32With him Dauber in the dirt. Asia never cut his hair.
- 3:35He's he's never the same, but that's a whole other story.
- 3:39Harold, you want me to go next? Yes, I want you to go next.
- 3:41All right, so I've got a real easy prediction.
- 3:45I predict Carson Beck's going to throw 3 interceptions in the
- 3:48National Championship Game one. Wait.
- 3:51I think he is such a fraud. I can't wait for a real defense
- 3:55to make him to expose him. Please, interceptions finish.
- 4:00I, well, because I think what's going to happen is they're going
- 4:02to get desperate and because I think he's going to fall behind
- 4:05on a bad pick in the beginning of the game.
- 4:07And I think Mendoza's going to be lights out.
- 4:10I, I, I see it being a 30 point game, like just like the last
- 4:13two of them and the coronation of one of the greatest teams
- 4:17college football has ever seen, especially definitely in the
- 4:21playoff era. So that's my shot.
- 4:23Sometimes I sit on it. All right, Jabba.
- 4:29You know what, I'm I'm going to switch gears too.
- 4:31And I'm it's going to be a Nebraska reference and it's
- 4:34going to be we have won 21 games in a row.
- 4:39We are one of the last five team standings undefeated in the top
- 4:4210. But we are the only school in a
- 4:45Power 5 to never win a game in March Madness.
- 4:50Nebraska is going to win a game in March Madness, and I'm
- 4:55calling it this year. I had to take a shit and I'm
- 4:59excited about it. I love it near and near my heart
- 5:03because Braden Frager grew up with my son, played basketball,
- 5:07but they have never won a game in the tournament.
- 5:10And they've had T Lou, they've had Jeron Boone, Eric
- 5:13Strickland, they've had some decent dudes, Eric Pykowski,
- 5:17guys that have spent time in the NBA.
- 5:20We've never won a game in March. Mad baby, we go win the game.
- 5:25I'll let you lick my butt. If that.
- 5:28Happens. Catherine is blinking my butt.
- 5:30There you go, I definitely want to watch that.
- 5:33I don't think she'll allow it anyways. 100% she will.
- 5:36She's a gamer. All right, my final call, your
- 5:43shot goes to the New York Mets. And I think Mets fans are going
- 5:46to be very, very happy in 24 to 48 hours.
- 5:50There's going to be announcement Kyle Tucker is going to sign
- 5:55with the New York Mets, 50 million a year, five years with
- 6:01an opt out. Book it.
- 6:03He will be a New York Met. For all you Met fans that are
- 6:06just absolutely disappointed this offseason, I and you should
- 6:11be. They're going to land Kyle
- 6:12Tucker. They're going to do whatever it
- 6:14takes to get them and they're going to give them an opt out
- 6:16clause. Book it 2024 to 48 hours before
- 6:20the weekend. You're going to hear that Kyle
- 6:22Tucker is signing with the New York Mets.
- 6:24And there you go, ladies and gentlemen.
- 6:25Speaking of New York Mets, we're going to go into inside
- 6:30baseball. Now let's go deep.
- 6:32Deep inside what? I am excited.
- 6:35This is inside baseball. Well, let's start right there,
- 6:39Errol. You had mentioned it.
- 6:41Let's get into it. The Mets have offered and we
- 6:46talked about it a couple of times tonight because this is
- 6:47the big news, in my opinion. This is the big news in baseball
- 6:50right now. He's been the top guy on the
- 6:52market all offseason. Problematic if he plays the same
- 6:57position as Juan Soto. But they do need outfielders,
- 7:00$50 million annual average value of the contract doesn't mean
- 7:06that it's going to be 50 a year. Might might be higher in the
- 7:08beginning, lower at the end, or who knows if they're going to
- 7:10front load or back load or they're going to let him do the
- 7:14Alex Bregman thing where they'll let him opt out after one year
- 7:18and it's really a one year, $50 million contract.
- 7:21If they do that. I'm not as excited about this
- 7:25deal. But if they can lock them in
- 7:28without the opt out being after year one, I think it's a pretty
- 7:31good move regardless for the Mets, even if it's a like $100
- 7:36million in two outfield positions.
- 7:38What do you think guys? I think it's a great deal for
- 7:41the New York Mets. I don't know if it's going to be
- 7:44one year. I think it's going to be two
- 7:45years. That's what I've been hearing
- 7:47that he can opt out after his second year.
- 7:50So they're going to have him for at least two years and they're
- 7:52going to be going for that World Series.
- 7:54And I expect if they land Kyle Tucker to make a big trade at
- 7:58the trade deadline. Obviously Tarek's Google will be
- 8:01available next year. He's going to be a free agent.
- 8:04So I could see the Mets, if they, if they're one piece away
- 8:08or one pitcher away from possibly fighting for World
- 8:10Series, I could see them doing it.
- 8:12I, I think I, I think this is a great deal for the Mets.
- 8:16If it's two years, if they, if he gives them two years on an
- 8:20opt out clause, I think it's slammed down for the Mets and
- 8:22they can win. They could absolutely be a World
- 8:24Series contender this year. Yeah, $50 million a year for a
- 8:27guy that's durable enough is fine with me.
- 8:30I get it. We're curious on the length of
- 8:31the contract. They were talking about Laura
- 8:32before. Like is it going to be pushing
- 8:34that five year standard if they're going to be an opt out?
- 8:37Yeah, I'd say two or three years is probably the likely.
- 8:39That's what if there's an opt out.
- 8:40In the contract, but again, for a player that's pretty durable,
- 8:43I know again, he had a bad second-half, but he wasn't
- 8:45playing. He wasn't playing 100% healthy.
- 8:48Again, the Mets, they're trying to build the Super lineup.
- 8:50We'll see if they can get the pitching after that.
- 8:51Yeah, I don't, I mean it's it's a great deal for him if he can
- 8:55get it. The opt out will be very
- 8:58interesting and see how they structure the deal.
- 9:00I think is is kind of going to be the caveat of if this deal
- 9:04does get done, I just don't think they have enough pitching
- 9:09and yeah, they struggled. With.
- 9:11McClain right, But I just don't think they have enough pitching
- 9:17with a super lineup. I mean, you're still going to
- 9:20have to stop guys from scoring and I I don't know if they have
- 9:25enough on the front end and the back end in that lineup for him.
- 9:30I think it's great. I think, you know, obviously
- 9:33with Bregman kind of setting the market with what he's not a $50
- 9:39million player to me, he's not durable.
- 9:42I agree with that, with what Speedy said, durable.
- 9:45Obviously he got a little injured this year, but I he's
- 9:49not a 50, he's not a game. He doesn't scare me.
- 9:53He's not Aaron Judge. Obviously Aaron took a discount
- 9:57to be what he is, but he's not an Aaron Judge.
- 10:02Kyle Tucker does not scare me. Like if Kyle Tucker beats me,
- 10:06I'm OK. You don't let Aaron Judge beat
- 10:09you. And Kyle Tucker for me isn't
- 10:13that dude, he is an unbelievable player, but he's not a $50
- 10:18million player to me. We'll.
- 10:20See. 3030 good defense, though, you know, you take that every
- 10:23single time. High batting average, still
- 10:26young. We'll see what happens.
- 10:28Part of me thinks the Blue Jays are going to get him, though.
- 10:30Man, I, I feel like they're just loading up.
- 10:32They, they smell it and they want it.
- 10:34But we'll see. Let's keep going on.
- 10:36Fish to like Kyle Tucker's not a name that comes in like when you
- 10:41think of baseball, Kyle Tucker's not a name that comes to your
- 10:44head for 50 million. A year he reminds me of He
- 10:47reminds me of George Springer, that's who he reminds me.
- 10:50Of you know, it's interesting you say that he reminds me of
- 10:52someone that you hate. Not that he plays like him, but
- 10:56his numbers and the impact he has on the game is similar.
- 10:59It's your boy Jazz, jazzy boy, similar 3030 guy.
- 11:03He's got he got a lot of pop. He plays good D, you know, like
- 11:08you want those guys on your team maybe less theatrics than Jazz,
- 11:12you know, as well. Well, yeah.
- 11:14And but I think that's too to like Kyle Tucker's game.
- 11:17Like there, there's not many of those like Jazz relies on that
- 11:21too. And but Kyle Tucker, he'll lay
- 11:24under the radar. You ain't laying under the radar
- 11:27when you're making 50 mil Now you put, you put, you put a
- 11:30bullet on your back and everybody wants to hit it.
- 11:35Yep, everyone's gearing up for you, trying to beat you and let
- 11:37everybody know. I just struck out a $50 million
- 11:39a year guy and. To prove him wrong, even though
- 11:41he's collecting the paycheck every two weeks.
- 11:43He's so he don't care. Well, Speaking of this new
- 11:47market being said Errol, the Yankees and Cody Bellinger have
- 11:50been at an impasse the last few days.
- 11:53At least it's been reported over the years in the contract, Cody
- 11:56Bellinger and of course Scott Boris wants the longer contract,
- 11:59the seven-year contract. The Yankees are only willing to
- 12:02go 5. The Yankees and Bellinger's camp
- 12:05continue to talk this week, John Heyman of The Post wrote on X.
- 12:10The Yankees are trying to bridge the gap in years by enhancing
- 12:13their latest offer, which there's five years by including
- 12:16an opt out, a nice signing bonus and no deferred money.
- 12:20Parties have possible options, but effort being made to stay
- 12:24together. I personally would have liked
- 12:27them to go after Tucker. That was a fluke hand injury,
- 12:29got hit by a pitch and played through it for a number of
- 12:32weeks. He should have sat out and he
- 12:32would have been fine. Bellinger a little older.
- 12:37Numbers have never been as good except for his two.
- 12:39His MVP year is when he was first came into the league.
- 12:42It's not that guy anymore. Obviously does a lot for you
- 12:45with his versatility on defense and plays good defense wherever
- 12:50he goes. I don't think you want him
- 12:51playing center field, but this is a guy that, you know, good
- 12:56baseball teams have guys like this on their team and hopefully
- 13:00the Yankees can add him and it's not one of these one year
- 13:03outbacks. The longer there is a wait, the
- 13:07better chances they have to sink.
- 13:08I do believe Bellinger will be a Yankee.
- 13:11I don't think he's going anywhere else else.
- 13:13I I don't see anybody offering him more than what the Yankees
- 13:16are going to offer him. I think the Yankees will
- 13:18probably add a year main job, but we're talking about it.
- 13:21I could see them five years to 6 with an opportunity to opt out
- 13:25after three or 4I. I could see the Yankees doing
- 13:28that. He doesn't want to go anywhere
- 13:30else. He wants to be a Yankee.
- 13:31His father was a Yankee. He grew up a Yankee fan.
- 13:35He said it many, many times. This was the place that he
- 13:38wanted to finish his career and I expect him to do so.
- 13:41I, I and I, he has a great relationship with a lot of the
- 13:44guys on this team, including Aaron Boone, who raves about
- 13:48him. I don't think he's going
- 13:50anywhere. And like I said, the longer the
- 13:54longer the weeks go before pitchers and catchers, the
- 13:57better chances the Yankees have to sign Cody Bellinger.
- 14:00And by the way, I think Cody Bellinger is a better all around
- 14:04player than Kyle Tucker because he could play multiple
- 14:07positions. He's a better defender in my
- 14:09eyes than a guy like Kyle Tucker.
- 14:13And I think Jabba says it best. He won an MVP.
- 14:17Kyle Tucker has never won an MVP.
- 14:19So until he does does that, I I I still think Cody Bellinger is
- 14:24a better player. Yeah, he's.
- 14:25One of the, one of the. 3 Bellingers won.
- 14:27He's been on a winning team. Yeah, I think the main
- 14:30competition was the Mets, but now the Mets are all in on
- 14:32Tucker. It seems like that the Yankees
- 14:34have all the leeway in the world to do that because again, there
- 14:36was really no other direct competition to threaten a a high
- 14:40payroll team like the Yankees. Like you say, already tell
- 14:42Steinbrenner's comments and all that, but there's still a high
- 14:44payroll team so. And they're going to get him on
- 14:46the. Cheat, they're going to get him
- 14:47on the value. I think that Brian Cashman was
- 14:49kind of targeting last month when we talked about it with
- 14:51Charlie Slows and I think that's why those comments were made and
- 14:54maybe they look smart in the end.
- 14:56You hit it right on the head is the longer it gets towards
- 15:00pitchers and catchers. I think it's it's a better value
- 15:05for Bellinger. And it's kind of what we talked
- 15:09about with Laura earlier is just like knowing New York, playing
- 15:14in New York and understand like he he handled it well.
- 15:17And I've, I've always said this, I've said this from jump street.
- 15:22His defense is very undervalued and he can give you so many
- 15:26different. What if Ben Rice doesn't work at
- 15:28first base? You got an option in Cody
- 15:31Bellinger and you're not going to have to pay 50 million a
- 15:34year. Where we've talked about before
- 15:37is that year, mom. That's the thing that I think he
- 15:42wants. But if he gets the opt out with,
- 15:47I would say two to three years. If he gets two to three with
- 15:51with an option and a no trade, because that's definitely going
- 15:55to be in there at that point at his age that I think I think it
- 16:00can work. But I think the longer it gets
- 16:02drawn out, I think it's a better likelihood of him going back to
- 16:08the Yankees and and with what he can provide for the team and
- 16:14what he's already done. It's a great fit.
- 16:17And Kyle Tucker was obviously the name, but I would take Cody
- 16:21Bellinger over Kyle Tucker any day of the week.
- 16:25All right, let's move on. We got more and this is my
- 16:28favorite thing Cashman's done in a long time.
- 16:31This is under the radar trade that happened yesterday.
- 16:34The Yankees added pitcher Ryan Weathers.
- 16:38Now, Weathers was with the Marlins and he was traded for
- 16:41four. I guess low a ball type guys are
- 16:45very low prospects. I guess it's a dump by the the
- 16:48Marlins who are always doing moves like this.
- 16:50Ryan Weathers is the son of David.
- 16:53Weathers. Who was a World Series champion
- 16:56back in the day with the Yankees, and that's so much fun.
- 17:00He is a very crafty lefty who has a good fastball.
- 17:03He can't stay healthy is the reason why he got him for such,
- 17:07so cheap. But for me, you don't need
- 17:09another lefty in this rotation. Why don't we go see if we can't
- 17:13recreate Andrew Miller? Why if we can't see if we can
- 17:16get that guy that can come in for two innings, whatever you
- 17:20need twice, 3 to 3 1/2 times a week, you know, three times a
- 17:24week and just make it so that nobody can ever get anything on
- 17:29you. I just think this is a brilliant
- 17:31move. I don't I think they'll try him
- 17:33in the rotation as Rodon, you know, kind of and Cole come back
- 17:37to full strength. Rodon had some offseason work
- 17:39done. This guy I think's long term
- 17:42role, is that like super reliever?
- 17:45Their game plan, their game plan of bringing him in was not to be
- 17:49in the rotation to put him in the bullpen.
- 17:52It's been something that Brian Cashman has done year in and
- 17:55year out. He finds these starting pitchers
- 17:58that he could put in the bullpen and he could put him in that mix
- 18:01of players that helps them be one of the better rotations in
- 18:06the bullpen in baseball. The problem is with the Yankees
- 18:09is the second-half of the season he they burn them out, hopefully
- 18:13by bringing in some of these pitchers and some of these
- 18:16younger pitchers and bringing some of these pitchers up, maybe
- 18:19moving Warren to the bullpen. And I think that's something the
- 18:22Yankees should think about doing because I think Warren could be
- 18:25a good closer. I think he's got the stuff to be
- 18:28a closer. I think the Yankees need to
- 18:30figure out who is going to be in the bullpen and who's going to
- 18:33be in the. Rotation.
- 18:34We have a closer now. We have bed.
- 18:36Yes, but I don't know what the Yankees, these guys are up and
- 18:39they're down. I don't know what these guys are
- 18:40going to be. Betnar is he's been good since
- 18:43he's come to the Yankees. And then we've seen these guys
- 18:46the first year they're good and then the second year they're
- 18:48they get extended and they're horrible.
- 18:50So I'm, I'm thinking what Brian Cashman is trying to do is bring
- 18:54in guys that he thinks that could be a closer or fit in as
- 19:00you know, part of that bullpen where they can mix and maneuver
- 19:04as the season moves forward. So I, I think it makes a lot of
- 19:08sense why they did this, but I, I do not believe they think what
- 19:11Ryan Weather is going to be in the rotations.
- 19:13I think they believe he's going to be a part of their lefties in
- 19:17the bullpen. Yeah, spot starter on occasion,
- 19:19I guess, and versatile bullpen. I'm always liked him and when he
- 19:23was with the Padres and they used him in that kind of role
- 19:25when guys went down, they always had a lot of veteran pitchers
- 19:27that got hurt. And again, he could transition
- 19:29to the bullpen. Doesn't have to be in a big
- 19:30role. We're not going to force him to
- 19:31close like you guys were saying. But again, he could probably do
- 19:34other impactful relief pitching if needed or an opener if
- 19:38needed. I think there's a good a lot of
- 19:39good with this. Move.
- 19:40He's got stuff to be a closer, he does.
- 19:43Well, in in I, I think what this move does, it gives them options
- 19:50and it's kind of what I was touching on with Cody because
- 19:54now you you have a guy that can do multiple things.
- 19:58And I think that's kind of the way Cash is kind of trying to
- 20:01manipulate this offseason is bringing in a guy like this.
- 20:06You get him a cheat because obviously he hasn't been able to
- 20:09stay on the field, but he's shown signs of being able to be
- 20:13very, very quality. And he can do it in multiple
- 20:17facets of the game. And so I think obviously you're
- 20:21going to fill some gaps early, but then he's able to do that in
- 20:27every way. And then when you get everybody
- 20:29back, as Cash always says at the deadline or something, hey, it's
- 20:34like getting a guy back healthy is like getting a free agent.
- 20:38And now you're going to have a guy like Weathers that you know,
- 20:41can spot start, can do that, can can come get those 2-3 innings
- 20:46and get lefties out. So I think I love this move.
- 20:50I love this move for the Chief and what it is.
- 20:52And I think it just gives them a different opportunity to be able
- 20:58to use him in different spots because he's done all of it.
- 21:02All right, this one is not cheap.
- 21:05I'm on the cheap here because the Red Sox today gave a five
- 21:10year, $130 million deal. Former Phillies pitcher Ranger
- 21:17Suarez. Yes, that Ranger Suarez who
- 21:20throws about 91 miles an hour but has six different pitches,
- 21:23mixes them up and has lowered his ERA in the last few seasons
- 21:27in the National League. 325 over the last five seasons and he
- 21:32mixes it up in his WAR has gone up every year.
- 21:35He had a four WAR this past year.
- 21:37He was my sleeper that I had in fantasy.
- 21:39He strikes out a little bit less than one an inning despite the
- 21:42lack of velocity because he has such a good pitch pitch mix.
- 21:45He will slot in as the number 3 starter behind Crochet and
- 21:49recently acquired Sonny Gray, probably ahead of Bram Bello and
- 21:54I guess Oviedo from Pittsburgh would be their 5th starter right
- 21:57now. I like Ranger Suarez, I do and
- 22:00and he was an All Star last year or.
- 22:02He was a snub. Yeah, he was a snub, but he
- 22:03should have been. He should have been.
- 22:05Yeah, but he should have been an All Star and and that's why I
- 22:08said that he was an All Star last year.
- 22:10I thought he was sensational the last two seasons and he was a
- 22:13big part of the Philadelphia Phillies making the playoffs,
- 22:16especially making any kind of run that they did at the at tail
- 22:20end of the season. He was a part of that.
- 22:22I think giving him $130 million, that's actually cheap for a
- 22:27starting pitcher and he's really a number two guy.
- 22:30I think Sonny Gray's going to be a number 3.
- 22:32Sonny Gray is not going to last that long over there in Fenway.
- 22:35They're going to burn a hole in him after he pitches his worst
- 22:39one game or two games that he looks really, really bad over
- 22:42there. They're going to kill him.
- 22:43I think Suarez, he's been in that situation before.
- 22:46I think he's more of a #2 and for a #2 pitcher, 5, five years,
- 22:51$130 million, it's a steal. I love the move.
- 22:53Yeah. I think it's somebody that's
- 22:55going to age well because like you're saying, Fish, maybe he
- 22:57doesn't have the raw velocity right now, but sometimes we see
- 22:59pitchers can rely later on on just pitch sequencing and he's
- 23:03smart enough to do that. And I think because of that, I
- 23:05think that will allow him to be a good mentor for a lot of these
- 23:09younger pitchers. You mentioned Bello, they've had
- 23:11a lot of guys, a lot of others like Hawk that have not been
- 23:14healthy, but and they've still been good when they've been on
- 23:16the field. And I think that's somebody that
- 23:19can weather the storm, doesn't pitch a ton of innings, but is
- 23:21pretty durable throughout his career and I think will age very
- 23:23well five years. I think it's it's a great sign.
- 23:27And also I think you guys didn't take into credit what he has
- 23:31done in the playoffs is a career 1.4 in the playoffs.
- 23:36And I think that's part of what they look at when you go to what
- 23:39he's done. And yeah, and he's 30 years old,
- 23:45but I think it's a great deal too, because as you said, like
- 23:49being able to teach some of these young kids.
- 23:51But then when you get to the postseason and being able to
- 23:54have somebody that has the nuts and knows he can do it in the
- 23:59postseason, which he has done, I think is it, it's a, it's a
- 24:03great sign. And I, I, they, they definitely
- 24:06got him on the cheap, I I believe.
- 24:09I'm going to throw a little water on this before we move on.
- 24:12I I've every time I do like fantasy baseball things.
- 24:16If I have a guy that's dropped in velocity each of the past two
- 24:20years, eventually there's a tipping point where it drops too
- 24:24much and he just gets shelled all the time.
- 24:26If he falls below 90, I don't think he could be as anywhere
- 24:30near as effective. And the fact that he keeps
- 24:32falling off, I would not want to give that kind of contract to a
- 24:35guy who's dropping velocity. But you know, maybe obviously
- 24:40super talented. He was excellent.
- 24:42Career 3/3 though and he's but are you paying?
- 24:45For before or are you paying for what's going to happen going
- 24:48forwards because he wasn't 93? Well, that's what you're paying.
- 24:51Two years ago. You're paying for it before.
- 24:52That's how baseball. Is But you know what though?
- 24:55That's how you screw up though. That's how you screw up a
- 24:57baseball. Sometimes, hey, listen, if the
- 25:00Red Sox win a World Series, which Suarez one year out of the
- 25:04five short winners, they're winners.
- 25:06So sure, listen, he's a good player.
- 25:09I just would be a little. That's the one devil's advocate
- 25:12thing. Like sometimes the velocity
- 25:14drops too much. Let's move on to a guy who's a
- 25:17little long in the tooth job. But you know this guy very well.
- 25:19We wanted him to be traded to the Yankees last season.
- 25:22Nolan Arenado was just traded the other day to the Arizona
- 25:26Diamondbacks. So the D backs acquired Nolan
- 25:30Arenado to trade with Saint Louis Tuesday, concluding the
- 25:33Cardinals like 18 month journey to try to move him as they're
- 25:38rebuilding. So the Cardinals received
- 25:40pitching prospect Jack Martinez and sent 31 million to the
- 25:45Diamondbacks to help cover the 42,000,000 remaining on Aaron's
- 25:49contract. So the Diamondbacks only have to
- 25:51pay him 11,000,000 over the next two seasons.
- 25:54He waived his no trade clause to do so.
- 25:56He struggled last year, hitting 237289-ON base 377, slugging 12
- 26:01homers. Defenses slipped a little bit.
- 26:04Still very good. Love it out there.
- 26:05Love it Young team needs leadership.
- 26:09This guy is going to provide that and that's you can't buy
- 26:12leadership. I don't care how much they gave
- 26:16up or I whatever they whatever you think that they gave up for
- 26:21a guy like Nolan Arenado, you're bringing in a guy that knows
- 26:24most leadership understands the game of baseball.
- 26:26You got a young team that was in a World Series a couple of years
- 26:29ago. They need that that that
- 26:31personality in that that dugout. They need that personality
- 26:35behind the scenes. I think Nolan Arenado gives him
- 26:38that and he's a likable person as far as what we know.
- 26:40I know Jabba knows him. A lot of people that we've
- 26:43spoken to Speedy in the past, it says has said Nolan Arenado is a
- 26:47great leader and a great person on and off the field.
- 26:49It's a slam dunk for the Diamondbacks.
- 26:51It's also a young team that played really well after they
- 26:53treated a lot of their veterans last year.
- 26:55They traded Suarez, which obviously Arenado will be the
- 26:57direct replacement for now, and then Naylor, who signed back in
- 27:00Seattle, and Merrill Kelly. And the Diamondbacks were right
- 27:02with the Mets and the Reds and all those other teams fighting
- 27:05for that last playoff spot after they sold everything.
- 27:08So it's a you're accumulating A-Team that's like that.
- 27:10And the Cardinals, when Arenado got traded over, they were kind
- 27:13of like that. They were either just the first
- 27:14team out or just the first team in a lot of those years.
- 27:16And the Diamondbacks are kind of in that same trajectory.
- 27:18Yeah, no, I think it's, I think it's huge.
- 27:20I I love Nolan. Nolan is one of the nicest
- 27:23people in the planet and is a phenomenal player and Yazzy
- 27:28probably on the back end of his career, but he he still can give
- 27:31you a lot of things that you can't quantify.
- 27:36And I think with that young team and they've been close.
- 27:39They have young talent, they they have bits and pieces of it.
- 27:44And I think he's kind of gone through it and just the
- 27:47leadership that he's going to bring in, just the way he
- 27:49carries himself and how he goes about his business.
- 27:54This is a great move for them. He was he wanted to get out of
- 28:00the Cardinals just because they weren't doing anything.
- 28:03And so I think this is this is a huge move for them.
- 28:07All right, we got one story left.
- 28:09And this one, I honestly only picked this one for you.
- 28:12Jabba and Errol, I don't know if you're going to care about this,
- 28:14but the Royals decided that they're moving in the fences at
- 28:18Kauffman Stadium about 10 feet. So the Royals are going to keep
- 28:22the center field at 410, but they're tapering.
- 28:25They're tapering in the fences, starting in the power alleys
- 28:28where it goes from 389 to 379. And it's going to continue on
- 28:32that path about 9 to 10 feet shorter all the way to the
- 28:35corners. But they're going to keep the
- 28:36foul poles at 3:00. 30 They're going to lower this.
- 28:39One second, I'll tell you why I'm going to get the code for
- 28:40you. The height of the fence is also
- 28:43being shortened from 10 feet to 8 1/2.
- 28:47We want a neutral ballpark where if you hit the ball well, it
- 28:49should be a home run. Royals general manager JJ
- 28:53Piccolo said. The second they start feeling
- 28:55like they can't get the ball out of the ballpark, they start
- 28:57changing their swing. I watched it for years and years
- 29:00and years, and I just felt like this is the time to try to push
- 29:03it and see if everything we felt for however many years is
- 29:07accurate. Speedy remember to be
- 29:09fascinating. Speedy's a He's a Met fan.
- 29:11Remember what happened in Citi Field?
- 29:14Remember that with the Wilpons and what they were saying and
- 29:19why they move, move the fences in.
- 29:23This sounds just like that. Absolutely just like Citi Field.
- 29:28When the when Citi Field was built and a lot of people, a lot
- 29:32of players and the Wilpons were complaining about how how deep
- 29:36the field was and if that's why there's no home runs and that's
- 29:40why we have to bring the field. We got to bring the fences in.
- 29:43This sounds just like that. Orioles did the same thing.
- 29:46The Orioles did the same thing which definitely didn't help
- 29:49their offense last year and Kansas City I guess is in dire
- 29:52need of offense is how bad their team OPS was bottom 5 in
- 29:56baseball last year combined with that with all their pitching.
- 29:58And well, why are you doing it now when you're you just signed
- 30:01a deal to move the stadium? It's a good question.
- 30:05I guess they're maybe. They're trying to test out that
- 30:06way of thinking. I don't know.
- 30:08It doesn't make sense. None of it does.
- 30:11As a pitcher, though, Jabba, like, doesn't this piss you off
- 30:14a little bit? Like, I would be upset.
- 30:17I loved. Pitching there like you, you
- 30:19have you have fields in that are pitchers, ballparks and it just
- 30:27they've done everything to hurt the pitcher in the game of
- 30:31baseball. They shorten field, they lowered
- 30:34the mound. What have they done for hitters?
- 30:38They've made everything better. And so for us on that side of
- 30:42the fence, literally and figuratively, it sucks because
- 30:47now we don't have the Bob Gibson 15 inch mound that we can get
- 30:52downhill and create velocity. Now it's shorter.
- 30:57Now you're bringing fences in, you're lowering walls.
- 31:00Well, I get you want the game to be sexier.
- 31:03Understand it, but like it sucks for us as pitchers because
- 31:07you're like, well damn, you're just making it easier for them
- 31:09because if they miss hit something they they can kind of
- 31:11get it out. I think the Royals should
- 31:13pitching should be worried about their training staff at this
- 31:15point. You had three key guys.
- 31:17I. Mean that's that's a whole
- 31:19nother topic, yeah. Maybe we'll cover that topic
- 31:23next time on Inside Baseball. I will say this, when this
- 31:28story, when you mention this story, it reminds me of the Mets
- 31:31and the Wilpons and, and just the complaining at the end of
- 31:35the first season, Citi Field was was was built and, and all the
- 31:40players there was how many home runs hit in Citi Field.
- 31:43I don't think the Mets had a guy that hit over 30 home runs that
- 31:45year. And there was so many
- 31:47complaints, so many complaints that they got to bring in the
- 31:50fences. The James were complaining and
- 31:53then the Wilpons complaining to the league that they got to
- 31:56bring in the fences and how the league was going back and forth
- 31:59with the Wilpons about bringing in the fences.
- 32:01So that's what it reminds me of. Anyways, ladies and gentlemen, a
- 32:06final segment of the night. What's that smell?
- 32:08Hold up, what is that smell? What's right?
- 32:17Wow, you don't see that everyday.
- 32:20This makes my pecker hard. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
- 32:23the final segment of the night, it's been a long 1 and I get a
- 32:26chance to drive to Montreal for almost 7 hours.
- 32:29So yay, ladies and gentlemen. All right, so this is how we're
- 32:34going to do it. We're going to go.
- 32:35We're going to go fish. We're going to go.
- 32:39Let's bring Nathan. You want you want Nathan to do
- 32:41this. Let's get Nathan.
- 32:44There's no way Nathan has. What's that smell?
- 32:46You have a What's that smell? I have anything all.
- 32:49Right. Just just describe what what
- 32:51what that smells like right now. What smells like shit?
- 32:55I'm putting you on a leash now. Breaking news.
- 32:58A lot of hot ladies. Breaking news.
- 33:00Do you want the jerking off? All right, So what we're gonna
- 33:03do is. I'll get I'll get something for
- 33:05you guys for the next What's you smell?
- 33:06I gotta go you. Do that, no.
- 33:08That's what he's gonna do. He's gonna go whack off now.
- 33:11Nope. Hey, Speedy's mom.
- 33:14All right, All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is how we're
- 33:17going to do it. We're going to go poops.
- 33:20We're going to go fish. Speedy me here.
- 33:23We. Go busy all day today.
- 33:24Lick it and stick it I. Like that one?
- 33:27That's a good one. Lick it and stick it.
- 33:28All right, so I'm going to be talking.
- 33:30About Glory pole. Something we somewhat covered
- 33:33the other day on the show on Monday, but we talked about Trey
- 33:37Young going over to Washington. He had his introduction already
- 33:40and everybody remembers that on his introduction.
- 33:43He talked about how we praised them, how he thinks that teams
- 33:46overlooked. He thinks that he has a great
- 33:49he's feeling real good about his new fresh start he has over
- 33:51there. And now is today that it was
- 33:54announced that he's going to be out all of the All Star break.
- 33:56He's going to be pretty much coming back towards the end of
- 33:59February. So hey, Trey Young's Trey Young
- 34:02start over in Washington's already stopped pretty good.
- 34:05Me and Fish were talking about it before the show actually
- 34:07started. As a Knicks fan, we're not too.
- 34:09We're not. We don't have too many, too much
- 34:11skin off our back here. If anything, hey, let the guy
- 34:14come back. Let him be an amazing player.
- 34:16Yep, Fish. Isn't losing tears because.
- 34:19Let him come back, do his thing, do whatever he has to do.
- 34:21He's just going to be the reason as the Knicks get a great.
- 34:24I love Lisan. Great first round pick next
- 34:27year. So what is that smell like the
- 34:30whole ordeal with? Trey Lulu.
- 34:32And his whole being out and whatnot a well suck my Indo.
- 34:35You got to be honest. It smells, according to the
- 34:38ChatGPT, the smelliest thing in Washington robot, the potomic
- 34:41robot, especially in the summer, which is very It smells like
- 34:46hot, humid of the river, smell like rotting algae, sewage and
- 34:51swamp. Water high ram view.
- 34:52Especially near the low tide areas.
- 34:55Thumb up my ass. And the riverbanks.
- 34:57And it might smell like Nathan's thumb up his ass.
- 34:59So. The moon smell.
- 35:01Like so there we go. That's.
- 35:04That's an interesting one, right?
- 35:06There I knew to rope up. I couldn't believe this story
- 35:09when I read it earlier today. So everyone knows a few.
- 35:12What was it in this about a month ago?
- 35:15Actually, NASCAR, long time NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and
- 35:21his family died in a car in a plane crash, right?
- 35:25And this is, you know, just one of the worst things that we can
- 35:28hear about. Well, let's add something not
- 35:31worse, but some insult to injury.
- 35:33Apparently the Biffle residence, which has been secured for the
- 35:38past couple of weeks since they died, was burglarized and
- 35:41robbed. Guns and 30,000 in cash were
- 35:44stolen as well as a backpack from the place.
- 35:48They just cracked the safe and took it out because they're dead
- 35:51and not going to be using the estate.
- 35:54No arrests have been made and no one else was at home at the time
- 35:57of the crimes. We're working the case.
- 35:59We're are waiting on some digital evidence, The police
- 36:02said. Well, I mean, there's low and
- 36:06then there's lower than low. And what's lower than low,
- 36:09That's hell. And I looked up what hell would
- 36:10smell like on AI, and it says hell.
- 36:13And this smells like hell. And this smells like burning
- 36:15flesh, sulfur, death, decay, and putrid toxic fumes stemming from
- 36:22biblical references to fire and brimstone as well as mystical
- 36:27accounts of demonic encounters. Very specific.
- 36:34Very specific. That's AI for you all.
- 36:37Right, So I'll transition to, I don't know if you Java, I don't
- 36:40know if you saw these all these memes about the colleges that
- 36:44don't have state income tax. It started with UCF and I guess
- 36:48they're using it as a recruiting tactic.
- 36:49And a lot of the other schools that are in Texas, Mississippi,
- 36:52I know Houston did it, North Texas did it.
- 36:54They all have these memes and all these like exemplifying
- 36:56things with the mascots, like they were branding one of the
- 36:59players or something like that just because they, this is their
- 37:01state. Politicians have no income tax.
- 37:03By the way, Stanford had a funny counter to it too, because
- 37:05obviously they're in California. They have a state income tax.
- 37:07Like maybe you should be more educated and alert about tax or
- 37:10something like that. That was one of their pitches,
- 37:12but the meme may be a little overblown at this point.
- 37:15Kind of exemplary. Be a little more creative for
- 37:18all these other schools. It was fun while it lasted.
- 37:20So what does it smell like? Well, there's two things we know
- 37:22about in Orlando, one of which is Nick Goody, the other one of
- 37:25which is Disney. So.
- 37:26It smells like a duel between Nick Goody's Aliens versus
- 37:31Stinky a bunch of Stinky Pete. 'S I love Lee Sam.
- 37:36Toy Story, huh? Jabba, you have a What's that
- 37:39smell? IA 100% and that was a nice
- 37:43segue even though you didn't know.
- 37:45I'm going to go on the theory. Get off my desk of the EMS
- 37:53causing all of the San Francisco 49ers injuries.
- 37:58Oh, I saw this. Yeah.
- 38:00And how they think because their practice facility, the
- 38:05electrical substantion near it, is causing them to be hurt more
- 38:10than any other team in professional look like.
- 38:13Specific tissue injuries. Too, Yes.
- 38:15And it's to Achilles and knees. And so it's a theory it they
- 38:20kind of debunked it. They haven't.
- 38:24But it smells like there's some legitimacy to this because we've
- 38:28seen it and we've seen their players succumb to it, so Goody
- 38:36may be on to something, you know?
- 38:40You mean ChatGPT? Well, that that too, yeah.
- 38:44Goody goody goody chat. Chat goody.
- 38:47PT AI GPT. Chat Goody PT.
- 38:51Yeah. All right.
- 38:54In my final watch that song. Speaking of San Francisco big
- 38:57story. One day after his 21 day
- 39:00practice window was open, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred
- 39:06Warner made it clear Wednesday that he hasn't ruled out his
- 39:10return at after fraction is dislocated right ankle.
- 39:15He could play actually Saturday. He has made the announcement
- 39:19today that he believes that there's a possibility he might
- 39:24make an appearance in Saturday's game against the Seattle
- 39:27Seahawks. If that happens, this might be a
- 39:30completely different game. It might not be 100% Fred
- 39:33Warner, but even if you get a 70% Fred Warner, you're getting
- 39:37an important piece to your defense and a beast of a man in
- 39:41the middle. So what does that smell like?
- 39:43It smells like Seattle Seahawks dump.
- 39:47If he's going to be sniffing it, I won't be sniffing anybodies
- 39:50dump. But maybe the Seattle Seahawks
- 39:52will be sniffing, you know, Mr. Fred Warners dump after he walks
- 39:57out on the field on Saturday and surprise and shocks everybody
- 40:01because. Speaking of walking, not Cooper,
- 40:03Flag just walked to the locker room.
- 40:04Yeah, so did. So did Jalen Brunson.
- 40:07So it doesn't look good. We'll see what happens.
- 40:11I don't know. They're saying they're saying
- 40:13it's a leg injury, but we'll see.
- 40:15It's probably. Definitely looked like Twisted
- 40:17something. In the leg, probably an ankle.
- 40:20It's an outrest of the games ankle.
- 40:22Yeah, left ankle strain for the flag, Yeah.
- 40:25It seems like it's always his ankle, so he's always had bad
- 40:28ankles even when he came from Dallas.
- 40:30That was a big problem over there.
- 40:31So hopefully, and it's the Knicks don't rush him back.
- 40:34If if it's a high ankle sprain, keep him out, let him rest.
- 40:38They're they're fine at the point guard position right now
- 40:42with the players that they have on their roster.
- 40:43Thank you to all the fans out there, including our
- 40:47handicappers, Wes and Reno Johnny for joining us, as they
- 40:50always do for let's parlay giving us their picks.
- 40:53They were horrible last week. They've actually been horrible.
- 40:57They're actually horrible for the last two weeks, so hopefully
- 40:59this week it's a slam dunk for them and they get back on the
- 41:02winning ways for them because I know, I know Wes.
- 41:06He'll probably jump off a bridge if he doesn't.
- 41:08Want to go with Boko Undefeated because they're different on the
- 41:10Bills Broncos game. That's true too.
