- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Good morning everybody.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I'm on the road again.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I'm uh actually in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Uh hour time difference from the East Coast where of course I live.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: And um just looking forward to chatting with you for a minute.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: I love uh I love what we get to do together.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I love uh I just love thinking and making you think, I hope.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Alright, so I told you we're gonna talk about the three little pigs again.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna grab my coffee, excuse me.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Gotta have my coffee, man.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: But uh don't underestimate what these three little piglets, three little pieces of bacon uh can say to you, man.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: So we talked last week about 1 Corinthians 10 and how uh the children of Israel's journey um is this cool model, if you will, for uh those who come after, which would be us.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And um I feel like that's what good good uh stories do.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: They they kind of awaken you to um principles that others have experienced, that others have lived through, and um the consequences.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And um I believe that's what we could get out of the three little pigs.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I know it's a weird uh uh parable, if you will, it's a weird passage of thought to use.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: But uh just think for a minute about the story again.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna read it again.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: You know, the three little pigs, lazy pig, playful pig, smart pig, wolf comes, uh one builds out of straw, one out of sticks, one out of brick.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Um and uh, you know, similar to uh the parable of the sower, uh in this case there's three pigs, in that case, there's four soils.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: But um only one of the three little pigs in one of the four soils ends well.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: And uh basically they're they're parables, if you will, about uh why.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: And uh so what I want to talk about today is just some of my thoughts on what I got out of the three little pigs and uh principles that I draw from the three little pigs, because I think it's a great little story about um how to live well and finish strong, how to uh how to get where we want to go, how to how to how to grab life and and get out of it what what we're meant to have and what we want to have.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I do this when I'm speaking some places, particularly with leaders and their staff, you know, I'll talk about the three little pigs, and I'll do exactly what I asked you to do, to think about what principles could you draw from this, you know, this fable, this this story.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, you get all kinds of things, you know, you get funny ones, you get cute ones, you get serious ones, you know, uh, you know, obviously normally I'm in Christian environments, and so you get, you know, the wolves of the devil, and uh, you know, just all kinds of things.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And and it's good, good stuff, good stuff.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: But I just want to share with you a few thoughts that I have uh as I've done it, and I don't mean that they're better, I just mean they're thoughts, obviously, that I want to use to push you in a direction.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And um again, one of the biggest things is the clearest observation is that um only one of the three ended well.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And um the others left, the others had the same instructions.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: We have to assume externally they had the same uh uh uh availability of resources.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Uh obviously they had the same amount of time and um grew up in the same home, you know, different birth order, you could maybe say, whatever, but uh we don't know about that.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Um but just it's just kind of interesting to think about how we're different.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, you grind down too far and it probably destroys the point the author was trying to make.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Um so what are some things that you could derive from the story?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And let me give you a couple of mine.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Um uh what spiritual lessons or principles could you draw from this story?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: How about this one?
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: What you build will be tested.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: What you build will be tested, and you don't know the quality of what you build until it's tested.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, uh my finances are strong, my marriage is strong, uh man, I'm a great friend.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: You don't you don't really know the quality of things until they face some kind of a challenge.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: And um, I'm not saying that challenges are great, but here's the thing, guys: uh you can't get stronger without challenges, and you can't really find out the beauty and power of what God's built until you're challenged.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: And to be quite honest with you, you can't really know yourself the way you need to know yourself without being challenged.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Because challenge is, again, I like to say a lot of times marriage is a mirror.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's saying the same thing, because marriage surely has a lot of challenge built into it.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: But challenge is a mirror of sorts also.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: When you're when you're faced with a challenge, when you're faced with an obstacle, an opponent, if you will, between you and what you know is rightfully yours or God wants you to have, or whatever, um, you learn a lot about yourself.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: You you find out where your gaps are, you find out where your strengths are, you find out where you're gonna need others' help.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Um so challenges are good.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: So another thought from the three little pigs would be your inner reality creates shapes and defines your outer reality.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Your it what's what's inside of you affects what you build outside.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: What's inside of you affects what you tolerate outside.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: What's inside of you uh affects and shapes what you pursue outside of yourself.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, you had a lazy pig, playful pig, smart pig.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Um all I'm really saying is the the the environment on the inside of them, how life had shaped them uh on the inside affected what they built on the outside.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Now, why, you know, what what's the value of a thought like that?
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the thing.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: If you want to change the outside, work on the inside.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: If you want to change the outside, work on the inside.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: If you want to change the outside, work on the inside.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Of whom?
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: You.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Because here's the thing.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: If you don't work on the inside, you can change the outside.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And maybe temporarily it's better.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: But if you don't change the inside, you're gonna rebuild the outside the way it was to some degree before.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Because you're gonna create an outside that reflects how you see, feel, and believe about yourself, God, and others on the inside.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: So if you want to change the outside, work on the inside.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Work on the inside.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Um lazy pig, playful pig, um, smart pig, right?
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: How about labels?
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Um, do you do you do you do you have some labels that you use in reference to yourself?
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Uh I am blank.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: We talked about this a while back.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: I am blank.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Uh one of my most painful things revolves around I am a disappointment.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Um what if lazy pig, smart, uh, playful pig, smart pig, what if, what if that's kind of how they saw themselves and they just didn't think they could build anything better?
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Uh what are your I ams?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Listen to this cool phrase.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Whoever's words define you is your God.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: I don't want to hurry past that one.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Whoever's words define you is your God.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Who told me that I was lazy?
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: I'd never amount to anything.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: My earthly father.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: He was my God, little G during my childhood.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: But then God, Big G became my God and my father.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: And he said, Chipper, you're not lazy.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: You're wired in a laid back, relaxed way so that people will feel safe talking to you.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Well, how many of you know it changed a label?
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: It changed a label in the way I saw myself.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: I'm not lazy.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: I'm interestingly wired, as you could ask my wife and find out.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: But it comes in handy to fulfill my assignment.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: So just give some thought to the three little pigs.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Time's up, and uh might pursue this a little bit more next week, we'll see.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: But uh gosh, I love you guys, and I so enjoy what we get to do together.
