- 0:02Speaker 1: College football fans, Welcome back to the college Ball Show.
- 0:07Speaker 1: He's Marshall, I'm Chris, and we are back for yet
- 0:12Speaker 1: another season of college ball. Man, we are pumped up.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Week zero is in the books far mcgeddon was sloppy,
- 0:21Speaker 1: but then all of a sudden turned into a score fest.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Tight again, not a big you know, not a big
- 0:28Speaker 1: surprise there. Big win though for Iowa State. So we'll
- 0:32Speaker 1: you know, we'll brush upon what happened yesterday. Then we'll
- 0:36Speaker 1: get into Week one preview and predictions. Number one Texas
- 0:43Speaker 1: at number three Ohio State. You got Clemson hosting LSU,
- 0:48Speaker 1: you got Notre Dame in Miami, the rivalry renewed, Nebraska, Cincinnati, Utah, Ucla, Auburn, Baylor.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I mean, we got we got some games. We got
- 0:59Speaker 1: some game. So that's four ranked versus ranked within the
- 1:02Speaker 1: first week of college basically football. So that we got
- 1:07Speaker 1: a really interesting lineup. And you know, the rest of
- 1:12Speaker 1: September in early October, there are some really key matchups,
- 1:15Speaker 1: whether it's in the non conference or it is a
- 1:18Speaker 1: conference game. That's what was cool about Farmageddon. You already
- 1:21Speaker 1: have like somewhat pole position down the stretch. You know,
- 1:27Speaker 1: a lot of people saying that both those teams could
- 1:29Speaker 1: be in the run for it. That's kind of like
- 1:31Speaker 1: a two game lead on Kansas State because you have
- 1:35Speaker 1: them up a game right now, but you also have
- 1:37Speaker 1: the tiebreakers. So we're also gonna because there's not a
- 1:41Speaker 1: lot of heavy recap, we're gonna talk about the ridiculous potential.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I don't think it'll happen. Let's hope, let's knock on
- 1:50Speaker 1: some wood, let's hope not. But the big ten thrown
- 1:54Speaker 1: around the major playoff where it's twenty four or twenty eight,
- 2:01Speaker 1: you know, we'll give our thoughts on that. We'll give
- 2:04Speaker 1: our thoughts on the Michigan ruling. And then you know,
- 2:08Speaker 1: last year at the beginning of the year, we especially
- 2:11Speaker 1: in the first episode, but really just early because you know,
- 2:14Speaker 1: you can do the preseason rakings. You can say, hey,
- 2:17Speaker 1: they did really good in the portal, or hey they
- 2:19Speaker 1: have a lot of experience coming back, but you got
- 2:21Speaker 1: to see the team's play, right, But we are going
- 2:25Speaker 1: to kind of go over at on paper what both
- 2:29Speaker 1: Marshall and I our own opinions, you know, what we
- 2:33Speaker 1: think of as real contenders out there, and even dark
- 2:37Speaker 1: horse teams as well, and We did this segment last
- 2:43Speaker 1: year and a lot of it just had to do
- 2:45Speaker 1: with man. There is a lot there's a lot more
- 2:49Speaker 1: teams that have a chance, and it feels like there's
- 2:53Speaker 1: probably about six maybe eight going into the playoffs last
- 2:56Speaker 1: year that we felt could win it, and I think
- 3:00Speaker 1: that held up pretty good. But it feels like it's
- 3:03Speaker 1: deeper this year at the beginning of the year than
- 3:06Speaker 1: it was last year. So that's always a great thing
- 3:10Speaker 1: for college football. As we know, there's a lot of
- 3:13Speaker 1: there's pros and cons to the NLI and the transfer portal,
- 3:17Speaker 1: but one thing you cannot deny is the talent is
- 3:21Speaker 1: more spread out. Thus a question mark maybe where there
- 3:26Speaker 1: wouldn't be. Quarterback is a big question mark this year,
- 3:29Speaker 1: even for a jam packed team that has a lot
- 3:33Speaker 1: of talent. Before we get into this though, if this
- 3:37Speaker 1: year first time listening to the College Ball Show, Welcome.
- 3:41Speaker 1: It's under the Ropodope Radio podcast umbrella, which you can

- 4:30Speaker 1: nine for the first month, and then the Ultimate Package
- 4:34Speaker 1: that includes over one hundred and sixty channels eighty four
- 4:36Speaker 1: ninety nine per month. Sorry for being long winded there,
- 4:41Speaker 1: but I guess I'm just excited about, you know, all
- 4:45Speaker 1: this stuff we get to talk about. Man, college ball
- 4:47Speaker 1: is back, my friend. What's going on, Marshall?
- 4:50Speaker 2: Hey, life is good. I don't know what it was
- 4:54Speaker 2: this year, but I definitely felt like this was all
- 4:56Speaker 2: the longest stretches I've had to wait for for college
- 4:59Speaker 2: and pro football to come back, and we're finally here.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It was fun to turn on the television yesterday morning
- 5:06Speaker 2: and see Iowa State case States so and I have
- 5:09Speaker 2: I have little faith in the Cowboys this year. Chris
- 5:11Speaker 2: I might be more emphasized on college football this year.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I'm already giving up hope on my NFL team, so
- 5:17Speaker 2: I hey, more love for college I'll be Okay.
- 5:20Speaker 1: You're already giving up hope in August.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I am. I am. The new documentary on
- 5:27Speaker 2: Netflix was really cool, but that was also the Glory
- 5:29Speaker 2: Days if I remember being I remember being a little
- 5:31Speaker 2: kid watching the Michael Jackson halftime Super Bowl and that
- 5:34Speaker 2: was when they won their Super Bowl ninety one and
- 5:36Speaker 2: since then it's been pretty much help. So anyways, yes,
- 5:39Speaker 2: it should be a lot of fun for college football
- 5:41Speaker 2: this year. Man, this year, I did put in a request.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I will be going. Last year I missed out on
- 5:47Speaker 2: Death Valley, But this year I'll be going to my
- 5:49Speaker 2: first ever SEC football game, going to go to good
- 5:52Speaker 2: old Tusca Loosa, Alabama watch Oklahoma play Role Tide. So
- 5:58Speaker 2: that'll be a fun week for the show. I'll be
- 6:00Speaker 2: able to have some good footage and I'll see what
- 6:03Speaker 2: I can remember from that day. I might have to
- 6:06Speaker 2: I might just take notes and just send you an
- 6:08Speaker 2: okaysal text message because some of that may get a
- 6:10Speaker 2: little blurry. And we got a shuttle bust there and
- 6:12Speaker 2: back from the hotel. So we'll see. But hey, it
- 6:17Speaker 2: should be a fun college football season.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Man.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I don't know, we're on you're ten, eleven, twelve something,
- 6:22Speaker 2: but it's gonna be a lot of fun. I'm looking
- 6:24Speaker 2: forward to the season, my friend.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I started the boxing podcast in two
- 6:29Speaker 1: thousand and nine in the fall, so that following so
- 6:34Speaker 1: twenty ten, that following year. I'm almost positive that we
- 6:38Speaker 1: started that year, maybe twenty eleven. I think I think
- 6:45Speaker 1: it's ten. Yeah, so this is our fifteenth year. Man. Man,
- 6:51Speaker 1: it's great, but also like, holy shit, where's the time go?
- 6:54Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 6:55Speaker 2: I know, I know, And speaking.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Of that, when I was in July, it's like, oh yeah,
- 6:59Speaker 1: we got two months of summer. We're going, oh shit,
- 7:01Speaker 1: here we are, you know. And of course, you know
- 7:04Speaker 1: in Minnesota, either late August or early September, there'll be
- 7:08Speaker 1: some scares temperature wise. At night, it'd be like it's
- 7:11Speaker 1: what degrees what? And that's actually what's happening this next week.
- 7:16Speaker 1: But a lot of people are loving it because the
- 7:17Speaker 1: state Fair is going on. It's it's a lot better
- 7:19Speaker 1: than being in you know, the heat at the state fairs.
- 7:21Speaker 1: So sure, man, football is in the air, and you know,
- 7:26Speaker 1: we'll we'll talk about this sloppy, ugly looking like a
- 7:31Speaker 1: preseason first quarter game in the NFL. Fumbaruski fumbleeruski. Now
- 7:37Speaker 1: it would go figure it was raining over there, which
- 7:40Speaker 1: you know they always say how it's always raining there,
- 7:43Speaker 1: that's our summer, and so that played a part because
- 7:47Speaker 1: you could see people slipping all over the field and
- 7:49Speaker 1: all that. So, yeah, really ugly start, but the low
- 7:55Speaker 1: scoring that really doesn't surprise you in this type of
- 7:57Speaker 1: matchup right, it's farmageddon for as you slowly plowed the fields.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But after in the second half, right one O nine
- 8:10Speaker 1: to sixteen, when it comes to rushing yards in favor
- 8:14Speaker 1: of Iowa State, to me, that was the key in
- 8:18Speaker 1: the game. You know, Rocco looked pretty good at times.
- 8:23Speaker 1: They made just enough plays there. And Avery Johnson, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 1: still kind of up and down last year. I remember
- 8:30Speaker 1: at the beginning of the year, he at the end
- 8:32Speaker 1: of the second quarter going in a half, they had
- 8:35Speaker 1: a chance to put some points on the board and
- 8:37Speaker 1: he ran out of bounce enough to where there was
- 8:40Speaker 1: no time on the clock. You couldn't get to the
- 8:42Speaker 1: damn sidelines and you know he was up and down
- 8:46Speaker 1: throughout the year. They decided because Avery Johnson had multiple
- 8:51Speaker 1: years that they were gonna go with him rather than
- 8:53Speaker 1: Will Howard. What was your take on the game overall,
- 8:57Speaker 1: because it did get dramatic and it got, you know,
- 8:59Speaker 1: really into but overall, Iowa State was stood Kansas State
- 9:05Speaker 1: by a hair.
- 9:07Speaker 2: My buddy, well, the the one I was just saying
- 9:11Speaker 2: about from Apple Valley, he actually bet KSE States. I
- 9:13Speaker 2: was a little disappointed. I but you know, mishaps you're
- 9:17Speaker 2: gonna happen. But like Case State, they did muff a
- 9:20Speaker 2: punt on the first possession of the game, which kind
- 9:23Speaker 2: of led to Iowa State's first score, and then KSE
- 9:26Speaker 2: State fumbled on like the ten yard line, and then
- 9:29Speaker 2: they also had a turnover inside the red zone. So
- 9:33Speaker 2: if you like KSE State, probably should have been up
- 9:36Speaker 2: like twenty four to seven or twenty four to ten.
- 9:40Speaker 2: But I know, first game blunders like you screwed up
- 9:43Speaker 2: and it came back to costume because I don't look
- 9:45Speaker 2: at the score like, oh, twenty four to twenty one,
- 9:47Speaker 2: probably pretty evenly played game. It's like, yeah, but when
- 9:49Speaker 2: you have what a muff punt and two red zone turnovers.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Looking back, like that could have been a case State
- 9:55Speaker 2: kind of blowout in a way, but they screwed up
- 9:58Speaker 2: and Iowa State didn't.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Even if they were all field goals, they show still
- 10:02Speaker 1: should have won the game.
- 10:03Speaker 2: You know, yeah, yeah, you can't you no matter whether
- 10:06Speaker 2: it's week one or week thirteen, if you if you
- 10:08Speaker 2: have red zone turnovers, you know, and you could say,
- 10:11Speaker 2: oh o, Case State man's first game of the year,
- 10:13Speaker 2: gumming mistakes. Well, Iowa State didn't have as many crucial
- 10:16Speaker 2: mistakes and either no, no, no, they really didn't. Case
- 10:23Speaker 2: State kind of let slip, but Iowa stated enough. And
- 10:25Speaker 2: to your point, my one kind of note I took
- 10:28Speaker 2: and I'm gonna try to take better notes this here,
- 10:29Speaker 2: like you've been done in the past, so we can
- 10:31Speaker 2: a little more informative is the linebacker play man. That
- 10:36Speaker 2: was my one kind of hot button note. I was,
- 10:39Speaker 2: like I was. Case State's linebackers had a bad game,
- 10:43Speaker 2: like I was, stayed in throw the ball too well.
- 10:45Speaker 2: They had like a two or three big passes, but
- 10:48Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage really went to Iowa State. So
- 10:51Speaker 2: in the second half that game, you know, you're right
- 10:53Speaker 2: off the rushing yards like kse State linebackers really did
- 10:57Speaker 2: get blown off the ball and they really struggled because
- 11:00Speaker 2: I was stay did just enough, but hey, you know,
- 11:03Speaker 2: we're talking about a game. It was fun. Two ranked
- 11:05Speaker 2: teams who you'd assume would both be contenders in the
- 11:08Speaker 2: Big twelve. Both have normally for the most part, been
- 11:11Speaker 2: pretty stable programs for the past uh well, i'd say
- 11:14Speaker 2: probably past ten years for sure for both of them.
- 11:16Speaker 2: So tough for case State to start the year off
- 11:19Speaker 2: that way. And I got to hop on a plane
- 11:22Speaker 2: and fly back over and kind of reset, and I
- 11:25Speaker 2: was staying, hey, that's a fun start to the year.
- 11:27Speaker 2: And you know, I'm sure they got Iowa come up
- 11:29Speaker 2: on their schedule like usually in a couple of weeks.
- 11:31Speaker 2: So it was a little bit of a crazy game
- 11:33Speaker 2: with the wind in the rain, but hey, it's college football.
- 11:37Speaker 2: If i'd bet I was stayed, I'd be happy right
- 11:39Speaker 2: now on the show.
- 11:39Speaker 1: So I went on plus three and a half. But
- 11:42Speaker 1: while I was watching, I didn't feel good about it
- 11:44Speaker 1: at all, and I was like, oh boy, they're not
- 11:47Speaker 1: you know, And to your point, like, the funny thing
- 11:50Speaker 1: is I read off that second half stat of Russian right,
- 11:53Speaker 1: But when you look at it, it's only one thirty
- 11:56Speaker 1: to ten, you know, so like yeah, yeah, so that
- 12:00Speaker 1: shows you how Case State was doing really well there
- 12:04Speaker 1: for a while. And to your point two to seventy three,
- 12:06Speaker 1: twenty one of thirty. You know, I gave Avy Johnson
- 12:09Speaker 1: a little shit or whatever, but he didn't. It didn't
- 12:12Speaker 1: lose because of him, you know, no at all. So
- 12:16Speaker 1: I guess my last point. When Case State was down ten,
- 12:19Speaker 1: they they recover, they run the kickoff back boom, sixty
- 12:24Speaker 1: five yard touchdown pass. Okay, now your defense makes one stop,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you can come go tie the game or win the game.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And the defense just got get when they needed it.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Iowa State really gashed them pretty good in that last
- 12:36Speaker 1: drive to kind of wrapt the wins.
- 12:37Speaker 2: So but hey, I honestly, for a big picture, I
- 12:41Speaker 2: think that's gonna be the Big Twelve this year, Chris.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Which maybe it won't be as strong of a conference
- 12:46Speaker 2: as the SEC or Big Ten per se, but we
- 12:49Speaker 2: probably have seven or eight really good football teams, and
- 12:52Speaker 2: the Big Twelve should be a consistent not that the
- 12:54Speaker 2: Big ten SEC won't be, but the Big Twelve should
- 12:57Speaker 2: be a consistently really fun conference to talk about all
- 12:59Speaker 2: year with a lot of like B plus programs that
- 13:02Speaker 2: are going to provide a lot of good football games
- 13:04Speaker 2: this year.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean we saw how last year, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: a lot of the uh, the expert picks at the
- 13:12Speaker 1: start of the year, you know, it basically flipped. Like
- 13:17Speaker 1: it basically flipped because it was like Utahs and and
- 13:21Speaker 1: and the the teams you thought would do really good.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Even Oklahoma State was coming off a big year and
- 13:27Speaker 1: then they fell flat on their face, you know. And
- 13:31Speaker 1: it's like you had Arizona State, you had car you
- 13:34Speaker 1: had all these teams that were really low at the beginning,
- 13:37Speaker 1: you know, picked and and it kind of kind of
- 13:39Speaker 1: flipped around. So what was it four different teams that
- 13:43Speaker 1: last week or was it five or six or something
- 13:45Speaker 1: like that. There's at least four teams that could have
- 13:49Speaker 1: if this worked, if they won and they lost ship
- 13:52Speaker 1: you know, to get off its final and and that's
- 13:55Speaker 1: another reason why you know, I don't I understand that
- 13:59Speaker 1: college football didn't have college like the conference championship games
- 14:06Speaker 1: for most of college football, right because we know it
- 14:09Speaker 1: started in like eighteen ninety, you know what I mean,
- 14:11Speaker 1: So it had like one hundred years without them then
- 14:14Speaker 1: the SEC brought it in, and so I just think,
- 14:18Speaker 1: if you're gonna have these large conferences, which I'm cool with,
- 14:22Speaker 1: then you gotta be able to decide it on the field,
- 14:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean, I don't I think to
- 14:28Speaker 1: get rid of the conference final, you might as well
- 14:30Speaker 1: start week one week zero and if you don't want
- 14:34Speaker 1: the season to run as late. Because we talked about
- 14:36Speaker 1: that too, how during the NFL. NFL takes up a
- 14:39Speaker 1: lot of freaking space when it comes to talk and
- 14:43Speaker 1: all that. So you know, but yeah, that conference, you know,
- 14:48Speaker 1: i'd say, like it's kind of top heavy in the ACC,
- 14:53Speaker 1: like there are some legit teams, but overall it's not
- 14:56Speaker 1: that deep. And yeah, Big twelve man. And the thing
- 14:59Speaker 1: about the Big Twelve, we talked about this before we
- 15:01Speaker 1: hit record. They out of returning production. If you look
- 15:05Speaker 1: at the top twenty teams for returning production in the country,
- 15:09Speaker 1: seven out of the top twenty come from the Big Twelve.
- 15:14Speaker 1: If you look at their quarterbacks, if you look, you know,
- 15:16Speaker 1: so it's gonna be really interesting and it's gonna be
- 15:21Speaker 1: really hard for the Big Twelve though to get two teams.
- 15:25Speaker 1: You know, we know in the ACC, I think they
- 15:27Speaker 1: had a I think the ACC might have a better
- 15:30Speaker 1: shot this year. Kind of matters what Clemson and Miami
- 15:33Speaker 1: do in the non conference really because you know, if
- 15:36Speaker 1: you look at Clemson, they play LSU in South Carolina
- 15:40Speaker 1: in the non conference and then also Miami plays notre
- 15:43Speaker 1: Game in Florida in the non conference. So if one
- 15:47Speaker 1: of those two teams do really well there, that may
- 15:51Speaker 1: bode well in general. You know that that freaking UNLV
- 15:56Speaker 1: game with Idaho State, Holy, I wasn't looking. I did
- 16:00Speaker 1: not see that coming. Kansas took over uh Freslo State.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Kansas was you know, it was a game for a
- 16:07Speaker 1: little bit and then they just totally took over. That
- 16:11Speaker 1: Hawaii Stamford game was crazy. Hawaii ended up winning it,
- 16:14Speaker 1: but that was a grind out game. I know they
- 16:16Speaker 1: were a slight favorite in that game. But overall, any
- 16:21Speaker 1: other items from Week one, sir.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Uh, just a reminder that you know, Week one bets
- 16:29Speaker 2: or Week one bets, quarterbacks can be quarterbacks. Sometimes that goods,
- 16:32Speaker 2: sometimes that's bad. But with that being said, you know,
- 16:37Speaker 2: do your research because it definitely has changed compared to
- 16:40Speaker 2: when we first started in this podcast, where a lot
- 16:43Speaker 2: of times you'd have a quarterback who's been with the
- 16:45Speaker 2: same coach for three or four years. He knows the system,
- 16:48Speaker 2: he's a vet, you know, et cetera, et cetera. You
- 16:51Speaker 2: could have a lot of guys week one who Now,
- 16:53Speaker 2: you could have a cam Ward who comes and shows
- 16:56Speaker 2: out because dude's a freak. But you know, if you've
- 16:59Speaker 2: been a quarterback at three different colleges now in four years,
- 17:02Speaker 2: and are well, we got you know, we brought in
- 17:04Speaker 2: this guy and this running back in this dude. It
- 17:07Speaker 2: might take a couple of weeks or it might not
- 17:08Speaker 2: develop for the whole year. You know, but a lot
- 17:10Speaker 2: of times you see, well all these flashy transfers, well
- 17:14Speaker 2: that might work for you, but again, be be hesitant
- 17:18Speaker 2: because that Week one, it's the dude might have a
- 17:21Speaker 2: great stat record, but it doesn't mean he's necessarily ready
- 17:23Speaker 2: for the new system or it's just a learning experience.
- 17:27Speaker 2: So Week one is always kind of dangerous, as we
- 17:29Speaker 2: just saw from yesterday. You know, you might make a
- 17:33Speaker 2: good bet, but you might lose or just you know,
- 17:36Speaker 2: wait to see your team. If your team looks sluggish, well,
- 17:39Speaker 2: it is week one in college football. These are amateur athletes,
- 17:42Speaker 2: you know, they're getting paid, but they're still college kids.
- 17:44Speaker 2: So it's always just kind of like, you know, get
- 17:47Speaker 2: through week one or week two, especially if your goals
- 17:49Speaker 2: to make the playoffs, you can't have one of those
- 17:52Speaker 2: huge chickup losses, you know with you know, hopefully he doesn't
- 17:55Speaker 2: bite too bad. But and but once he gets like
- 17:57Speaker 2: week three or four, Chris, then we normally kind of
- 17:59Speaker 2: see like who was like good and who is bad.
- 18:02Speaker 2: What quarterbacks may be gotta work out for the cists
- 18:04Speaker 2: or not, but just kind of have to bite your
- 18:06Speaker 2: tongue and kind of maybe pour a drink to get
- 18:08Speaker 2: through this first couple of weeks because crazy stuff always happens.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Brother, Yeah, and even like against the spread stuff and
- 18:15Speaker 1: like you said, just upsets where you're not ready for it,
- 18:18Speaker 1: or like a MAC team knocks off a power team
- 18:20Speaker 1: or yeah, you're right about that that you gotta tread
- 18:24Speaker 1: a little lightly and you know you're right, Like if
- 18:30Speaker 1: you've been at three three places, you know, I'm glad
- 18:33Speaker 1: you brought up the cam Ward because at least he
- 18:35Speaker 1: was like going up in levels, you know what I mean,
- 18:38Speaker 1: Like he started at a very small school as we know,
- 18:42Speaker 1: then went up to a packs off then went up
- 18:44Speaker 1: to Miami, so you knew by the time he got
- 18:47Speaker 1: to Miami, you're like, oh, this is gonna be a
- 18:49Speaker 1: pretty good fit, you know, because he was a little different.
- 18:51Speaker 1: But overall a lot of times guys aren't leaving because
- 18:55Speaker 1: it went well, you know what I mean. Yes, yes,
- 18:59Speaker 1: it seems like the CS Now, if the quarterback's really
- 19:03Speaker 1: been there for a little while and pretty dominant, then
- 19:06Speaker 1: the jump there. If you set up you know, stuff
- 19:09Speaker 1: around him that's actually transferring pretty well. Max Max Browsner,
- 19:14Speaker 1: who's gonna make the Vikings fifty three squad, fifty three
- 19:19Speaker 1: man roster. He came for just one year, So you're
- 19:24Speaker 1: right about that though. That's what I think Iowa was
- 19:27Speaker 1: hoping this year that they got this kid that you know,
- 19:30Speaker 1: was damn good at a different level, and if they
- 19:33Speaker 1: can have everything kind of set up for him, we'll see.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Because that's how I heard a stat. I think it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: thirty one and one or thirty three and one in
- 19:44Speaker 1: the last thirty some odd games for Iowa when they
- 19:47Speaker 1: score twenty one points, at least twenty one points, they're
- 19:50Speaker 1: like thirty one and one or something like that. You know,
- 19:53Speaker 1: it's like you really don't need that many points, Iowa,
- 19:57Speaker 1: if you can just somehow you know, do it and
- 20:01Speaker 1: not have to rely on like a pick six or
- 20:04Speaker 1: a punt return or something like that. So when you
- 20:10Speaker 1: look at like contenders, you know, or actually you know
- 20:13Speaker 1: before we get into that, so you know when you
- 20:18Speaker 1: hear we heard that the SEC now is going to
- 20:22Speaker 1: go to a nine game conference schedule, which I like
- 20:27Speaker 1: a lot, and some SEC insiders are saying, you know,
- 20:30Speaker 1: they bent the knee to the Big Ten because the
- 20:33Speaker 1: Big Ten wouldn't agree to an expansion if in fact
- 20:38Speaker 1: you didn't have nine it also, so I think that's cool.
- 20:44Speaker 1: But also I think it's really cool that they made
- 20:46Speaker 1: a rule that you have to face a power for
- 20:50Speaker 1: conference team, right, I guess that'd be the other three conferences,
- 20:54Speaker 1: which is really dope because that not that they're always
- 20:57Speaker 1: going to schedule the toughest teams. But maybe that'll eventually
- 21:02Speaker 1: lead to an SEC Big Ten challenge like they do
- 21:05Speaker 1: in college basketball. That would be really cool and it
- 21:07Speaker 1: would help setll arguments rather than arguing and debating who
- 21:13Speaker 1: was you know, on the field during a bowl game.
- 21:16Speaker 1: You know that type of thing. Certain bowl games where
- 21:18Speaker 1: you're like well, that guy's sad or that guy's in
- 21:20Speaker 1: or whatever. But when you hear stuff, and maybe the
- 21:26Speaker 1: Big Ten did this purposely because look, we heard about
- 21:29Speaker 1: this twenty four to twenty eight team, which is ridiculous,
- 21:33Speaker 1: and then not long after there was a nine game thing.
- 21:36Speaker 1: But what are your thoughts when you start to hear
- 21:39Speaker 1: you know, we've heard these super conferences and I still
- 21:42Speaker 1: don't call them super conferences, but they never reached the
- 21:46Speaker 1: thirty five forty team stuff that we talked about years ago.
- 21:50Speaker 1: But I never, in my wildest dreams Marshall would think
- 21:54Speaker 1: that we'd have a super conference playoff fucking setup format.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I just it would really just kill the regular season,
- 22:05Speaker 2: which is something that we love, Like, I really like
- 22:09Speaker 2: how it is now with the system we have of
- 22:11Speaker 2: college football, and obviously the the new conferences have kind
- 22:16Speaker 2: of taken away rivalries I think a little more so
- 22:19Speaker 2: it's home to me and basketball, even football, it still
- 22:21Speaker 2: isn't quite the same.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah, in some of those rivalries you're gonna have to
- 22:26Speaker 1: work to get them back in the future, hopefully, because
- 22:29Speaker 1: they did fuck up some of them, no doubt.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yeah, And and you know, and even just like I
- 22:35Speaker 2: know we're doing football here, but like there's like a
- 22:37Speaker 2: couple of teams in Power cut and Power five conferences
- 22:41Speaker 2: in basketball this year that don't have a single player
- 22:43Speaker 2: that's on their team last year. Like so it's like,
- 22:47Speaker 2: you know, are you are you still kind of like
- 22:49Speaker 2: obviously a fan still gonna love their team. But even
- 22:52Speaker 2: for football too, it's like it's it's getting close to
- 22:55Speaker 2: the point out Chris, where it's like you're cheering for
- 22:57Speaker 2: you're cheering for your logo, but don't really know your team,
- 23:00Speaker 2: and that is a little more of effective college football too.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Like now the overturn won't be as drafted. You never
- 23:05Speaker 2: would have a full eighty two man turnover, but hey.
- 23:08Speaker 1: But when someone gets fired or goes to another team,
- 23:11Speaker 1: it can be sixty people that leave, you know, yeah, more.
- 23:15Speaker 2: So to your point, Yeah, it's just it's like obviously,
- 23:19Speaker 2: you know, like the money talks in our society, and
- 23:24Speaker 2: like obviously these conferences want to make money. But if
- 23:29Speaker 2: the playoff were to expand, it's like didn't like, I know, hey,
- 23:31Speaker 2: money's cool and all, but you're it would really it
- 23:34Speaker 2: would really hurt the sport. And obviously, you know, the
- 23:38Speaker 2: SEC in the Big ten or try and do what
- 23:40Speaker 2: they got to do in Big twelve and acec want
- 23:42Speaker 2: to be part of the two. But to me, if
- 23:45Speaker 2: the playoff ever got above like sixteen teams, it would
- 23:49Speaker 2: really like okay, cool, we got your super conference, power
- 23:52Speaker 2: conferences and stuff, and you're gonna have like seven teams.
- 23:54Speaker 2: It's like, well, what is what is the purpose then
- 23:57Speaker 2: of really competing in the regular season? And hey, Alabama
- 24:01Speaker 2: lost three games? Is here Ohio s they lost three games.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Notre Dame lost three games, but they're in the playoff now,
- 24:06Speaker 2: So who cares? Like he could be.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Four and four in your you know, five and four
- 24:09Speaker 1: in your conference and you're in.
- 24:11Speaker 2: You know, yeah, and the there there'd be the motivation
- 24:15Speaker 2: to schedule and like to have big games like you
- 24:17Speaker 2: obviously you know when oh you place Texas, who would
- 24:20Speaker 2: still feel like a big game, but like all right,
- 24:23Speaker 2: you lost, it's like okay, well we're still gonna make
- 24:26Speaker 2: the playoffs. So cool. Like, you know, there's one thing
- 24:30Speaker 2: that makes college football so fun is that losing that
- 24:34Speaker 2: one game to your rival or one time you have
- 24:37Speaker 2: an update can ruin your season. And that's I think
- 24:40Speaker 2: why we love the sports so much. Like last year,
- 24:42Speaker 2: Notre Dame, by the grace of God, had to hang
- 24:45Speaker 2: on and had to have a perfect season after their
- 24:47Speaker 2: Mac loss or that.
- 24:48Speaker 1: We never would have guessed they would have ran off
- 24:50Speaker 1: that kind of you know what I mean after losing
- 24:53Speaker 1: that team.
- 24:53Speaker 2: But after that one loss, Chris, there was like, dude,
- 24:56Speaker 2: we gotta stay perfect in the regular season, you know.
- 24:59Speaker 1: More.
- 25:00Speaker 2: That's what made that Alabama Vandy game so special, ye like,
- 25:03Speaker 2: oh shit, like and that was one of those punches
- 25:06Speaker 2: on the resume that costumer South Carolina.
- 25:08Speaker 1: You know, they couldn't go home or freaking you know,
- 25:11Speaker 1: dominated Bama and we're like, they're done, dude, holy shit,
- 25:14Speaker 1: they're done, you know.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's what made that Georgia Tech Georgia game
- 25:17Speaker 2: so much fun.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Yes, that's a great example all.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Those and like last year, like Alabama, my guy Lane
- 25:24Speaker 2: Kiff and I'll get my quote in this week and
- 25:27Speaker 2: uh and South Carolina we're all so close to making it.
- 25:30Speaker 2: But didn't like that good for the sport.
- 25:34Speaker 1: If it didn't for the right reasons, you know, yeah, yeah,
- 25:37Speaker 1: that was what was cool about it.
- 25:39Speaker 2: True. But if we were to go up to this
- 25:41Speaker 2: proposed number of a bigger number, right.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Well you know, we're gonna seven teams from both sides
- 25:46Speaker 1: or something like that, seven from the big time, the
- 25:50Speaker 1: n SEC.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yeah, they're no, like we don't need we don't need
- 25:54Speaker 2: seven SEC teams like you know, it's it would really
- 25:57Speaker 2: just kind of kill what makes the sports beautiful. And yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 2: oh yeah, yeah, okay, so I mean pretty much. And
- 26:03Speaker 2: you know, then you Alabama, then you won't see a
- 26:07Speaker 2: game like Ohio State Texas because why would you want
- 26:11Speaker 2: to risk play Ohio State Texas If you know, hey,
- 26:13Speaker 2: as long as we lose three games, we're gonna go
- 26:15Speaker 2: to the tournament. Why play a team like Texas started
- 26:18Speaker 2: the year, which could be a loss that we don't
- 26:19Speaker 2: really need to take, you know. So it just like
- 26:23Speaker 2: we've always heard, like the the the NC double A,
- 26:25Speaker 2: are they ever gonna go to seventy eight or ninety two?
- 26:27Speaker 2: It's like, I hope March Maddens doesn't, but money does talk,
- 26:31Speaker 2: and that's how our society can run at times. And
- 26:33Speaker 2: so I'm sure within ten to fifteen years we might
- 26:36Speaker 2: have a seventy eighteen March Mattess So we might have
- 26:39Speaker 2: a twenty four team college football tournament, but hopefully that
- 26:44Speaker 2: is not not until like twenty thirty five or something
- 26:47Speaker 2: like when we're hopef I'll be living in Minnesota next year.
- 26:50Speaker 2: So when hey, when we're in our sixties, Man, if
- 26:52Speaker 2: we're having a beer and watching this stuff and it's
- 26:55Speaker 2: twenty four and NC double A is eighty four, you know,
- 26:58Speaker 2: so be it. But at least give us ten years
- 27:00Speaker 2: of kind of just keeping it how it is, because
- 27:02Speaker 2: it would just kind of it would the radio season
- 27:05Speaker 2: just won't be as fun. I don't know. We'll see.
- 27:07Speaker 2: At least we'll be good for this year and a
- 27:09Speaker 2: few more. But yeah, just keep things in check a
- 27:11Speaker 2: little bit, y'all.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Please, Yeah, because sixteen would have worked last year. I'm
- 27:16Speaker 1: pretty sure sixteen makes sense, especially if you do or fourteen.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I prefer fourteen and give the top two teams a bye. Sure.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I mean some of the ideas coming out of it
- 27:28Speaker 1: would poll college football away from the bull system more
- 27:33Speaker 1: in that scenario, which I do like. But I think
- 27:36Speaker 1: you can already do that if you added sixteen. If
- 27:39Speaker 1: you went to sixteen, you could have the first two
- 27:42Speaker 1: rounds at home, you know, and still accomplish moving away
- 27:48Speaker 1: and maybe some of those more high profile games could
- 27:51Speaker 1: go to teams that are nine and three, eight and four,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and that getting that ninth or tenth win would be
- 27:56Speaker 1: a big deal again, you know that type of thing.
- 27:58Speaker 1: But yeah, one thing I'll say about the changing is rosters,
- 28:05Speaker 1: Like I think losing starters hurt. I don't think you
- 28:11Speaker 1: know teams that used to build a stockpile four and
- 28:15Speaker 1: five stars, especially like four and high three stars, you
- 28:18Speaker 1: know on the second team. That's where a lot of
- 28:22Speaker 1: them spread out as we know, which is awesome, but
- 28:26Speaker 1: also just the team depth now, keeping your team and
- 28:29Speaker 1: having guys that are going to develop, maybe it takes
- 28:32Speaker 1: three years to develop, maybe four or the red shirt
- 28:36Speaker 1: senior year they're ready to go or whatever. At least
- 28:39Speaker 1: two to three years of development that revenue Athletic Department,
- 28:45Speaker 1: revenue salary cap. I think that'll fix some of the
- 28:48Speaker 1: stuff you're talking about as far as so much transition.
- 28:51Speaker 1: You know this year they allowed for technically more scholarships
- 28:56Speaker 1: now and so it's you know that that does kind
- 29:04Speaker 1: of I think that'll help build to keep still have
- 29:08Speaker 1: the development programs and guys on your team that you
- 29:12Speaker 1: know to your point, because that isn't one official yet,
- 29:18Speaker 1: but it's just a matter of things going through and
- 29:23Speaker 1: they do cap out, you know, at least the caps out.
- 29:26Speaker 1: You can't just spend all the money or whatever. But
- 29:28Speaker 1: I think that'll help as far as the you know,
- 29:31Speaker 1: the the two three in four, but really keeping your starters.
- 29:36Speaker 1: If you can keep your starters, you're in pretty good shape,
- 29:39Speaker 1: you know. So ultimately, I don't think they'll go to
- 29:45Speaker 1: that twenty four or twenty eight. I think it'll be
- 29:48Speaker 1: fourteen or sixteen, which I'm okay with now that we're
- 29:52Speaker 1: here and we realize, you know, how deep the talent
- 29:57Speaker 1: base is now spread out more. But yeah, that the
- 30:01Speaker 1: whole thing. And I understand, like if you look at
- 30:05Speaker 1: the numbers, there's I think there's one hundred and thirty
- 30:07Speaker 1: six this year teams, right, okay, yeah, I'm good now,
- 30:11Speaker 1: So what one hundred and thirty six teams? So and
- 30:16Speaker 1: and so you could make an argument that in pro sports,
- 30:20Speaker 1: you know, half or almost half the teams because what
- 30:23Speaker 1: is it, fourteen teams make the NFL because it's seven
- 30:27Speaker 1: on each side, right, yeah, make thirteen out of thirty
- 30:30Speaker 1: two and and and you can you know when you
- 30:34Speaker 1: hear in basketball hockey's even more it is half or
- 30:37Speaker 1: mary half yeah, yep. And So to me, it's like,
- 30:41Speaker 1: I understand those arguments, but the whole thing in college
- 30:44Speaker 1: football is different. First of all, it's been a lot
- 30:47Speaker 1: around a lot longer and we're used to this is
- 30:50Speaker 1: how it goes, and that is the difference. For team sports.
- 30:53Speaker 1: We know the regular season is by far, you know,
- 30:58Speaker 1: the best shit. So to me that I agree, that
- 31:02Speaker 1: would really ruin, Like, yeah, you're always gonna get pump
- 31:06Speaker 1: for your arrival, but like, I'd much rather have a
- 31:10Speaker 1: team like rivalry weeks awesome. The last two weeks now
- 31:14Speaker 1: are anticipated majorly and a lot of that has to
- 31:19Speaker 1: do is trying to be the top twelve now or
- 31:21Speaker 1: sixteen or whatever. And we saw that adding like, hey dude,
- 31:25Speaker 1: if your rival can knock off like it's one thing.
- 31:28Speaker 1: You know last year Minnesota knocked off Wisconsin so they
- 31:31Speaker 1: couldn't go to a ballgame, but imagine knocking them out
- 31:35Speaker 1: of the playoffs. You know, that type of shit just
- 31:39Speaker 1: you know, adds to the rivalry stuff. So that that
- 31:43Speaker 1: was pretty good. That would be that's where we gotta be.
- 31:48Speaker 1: So what do you think of the Michigan NCAA ruling?
- 31:52Speaker 1: Because people either swing one way kind of extreme or
- 31:57Speaker 1: the other. I've heard from multiple people, whether you know
- 32:03Speaker 1: on podcasts or even on ESPN or a couple of
- 32:06Speaker 1: friends I've talked to, and for whatever reason, they keep
- 32:10Speaker 1: bringing up, well, Penn State got this, Penn State got
- 32:13Speaker 1: That's like, well, hold on, dude, let's not go to
- 32:15Speaker 1: the Penn State because that was a law that was
- 32:18Speaker 1: broken in an extreme way. To break a law and rules,
- 32:24Speaker 1: I think people have to I think there's better examples
- 32:28Speaker 1: of comparing the Michigan thing. Then go right to Penn State,
- 32:33Speaker 1: because Penn State was a criminal activity that broke a law. Marshall,
- 32:39Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's not NCAA rules, you know.
- 32:43Speaker 1: So I think there's a lot other examples out there
- 32:47Speaker 1: that you could say, well, this team got worse than
- 32:50Speaker 1: Michigan or whatever, and I'm cool with that, but when
- 32:53Speaker 1: you start to bring up Penn State, it's like, you're
- 32:56Speaker 1: really gonna compare that to that. I think the reason
- 33:00Speaker 1: why Michigan got in trouble because it was blatant. It
- 33:04Speaker 1: was blatantly they cheated, you know, they blatantly cheated rather
- 33:08Speaker 1: than we all know everybody you're trying to steal the
- 33:11Speaker 1: signs during the game. Uh. But when you have a guy,
- 33:15Speaker 1: you know, on his off week going on a max sideline,
- 33:19Speaker 1: you know, that type of thing. That's where they blatantly
- 33:22Speaker 1: didn't you know, they stepped the line and they made
- 33:26Speaker 1: that used to be legal back in the day, but
- 33:28Speaker 1: they realized not every school can afford to send people around,
- 33:33Speaker 1: you know, So that's why it became, you know, illegal.
- 33:35Speaker 1: But it's still a rule, not a law, and it
- 33:39Speaker 1: doesn't have anything to do with like sexually abusing kids,
- 33:41Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So I think that's where
- 33:43Speaker 1: it's like, dude, don't even bring Penn State up into this.
- 33:47Speaker 1: There's so many other people that have got in trouble
- 33:49Speaker 1: for stuff that you don't have to go to extreme
- 33:51Speaker 1: when it comes to that, you know.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I still think looking back, like you
- 33:57Speaker 2: obviously it was so long ago, but like USC really
- 34:00Speaker 2: did take the worst of it out of all, like
- 34:02Speaker 2: after what you did compared to that, like, Okay, Reggie
- 34:05Speaker 2: Bush you know, had a nice car in some big houses,
- 34:08Speaker 2: like damn, like you know they you know. I but
- 34:12Speaker 2: like for Michigan, like it goes back to the thing
- 34:15Speaker 2: of you know, are you punching the school or punching
- 34:16Speaker 2: the kids? Like and like the fact that there's no
- 34:20Speaker 2: put Like, I don't know, I guess I was just
- 34:22Speaker 2: kind of neutron the whole thing because you gave him
- 34:25Speaker 2: a postseason financial revenue ban, but the team's allowed to
- 34:29Speaker 2: play in the postseason. Okay, like that it's I They're
- 34:35Speaker 2: they're not They're they're they're really facing no repercussion from
- 34:38Speaker 2: making the playoffs. Now, if you did a playoff, then
- 34:41Speaker 2: it would be like holy shit, you know. But Okay,
- 34:42Speaker 2: so Michigan loses on some money, Okay, like that's a
- 34:46Speaker 2: that's a financial punishment to the school, but like it's
- 34:51Speaker 2: really not affecting the chances of them being a successful team.
- 34:57Speaker 2: This I don't know. I I guess I just really
- 34:59Speaker 2: didn't a hug feeling on it, because if you're not
- 35:02Speaker 2: affecting the the playoff teams chances to be successful in tournament,
- 35:06Speaker 2: you know, does it really hurt them? But on the
- 35:09Speaker 2: other hand, like the players also weren't involved in it,
- 35:12Speaker 2: So is it fair to punish this year's Michigan kids
- 35:15Speaker 2: work that dude was doing two years ago? You know?
- 35:18Speaker 2: It is that fine line to do you punish the
- 35:21Speaker 2: kids who were not involved in it, but then also
- 35:25Speaker 2: by not punishing the kids for the win. Last way,
- 35:28Speaker 2: is it really does that really set a punishment to
- 35:31Speaker 2: deterbute from doing it in the future, you know, because
- 35:33Speaker 2: that's always been whether it's for basketball or football. Well,
- 35:36Speaker 2: we don't want to punish the kids because those kids
- 35:38Speaker 2: weren't involved in what the coaches did. Okay, but then
- 35:42Speaker 2: are you really truly punching the school? Well not really,
- 35:45Speaker 2: you know, so like it's just such a weird one.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Like I think if they would have said, hey, postseason
- 35:52Speaker 2: banded for Michigan, which I heard was on the table,
- 35:54Speaker 2: it said not to like, that would have been like,
- 35:57Speaker 2: oh my god, Wow, the NCAA put the foot down.
- 35:59Speaker 2: But ever since really the USC than I'm a fans,
- 36:03Speaker 2: I'm a bit biased here, but that probably was one
- 36:05Speaker 2: of the worst suspensions they ever gave if you look
- 36:08Speaker 2: back long term, how how they got punished. So Michigan, yes,
- 36:11Speaker 2: it will hurt them in their pocketbooks, but are also
- 36:13Speaker 2: in extremely rich university. So I thought it was well.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Miami two separate times got.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Well, no, you're right, Miami, Miami. Miami got the hammer
- 36:21Speaker 2: dropped on to you're right. But but since since then,
- 36:25Speaker 2: you know, but I really think that is the president
- 36:28Speaker 2: going forward Chris of I, Well, we're gonna punish these
- 36:31Speaker 2: schools financially, but we're not gonna let them affect the
- 36:35Speaker 2: kids on the field, which again, I think if you
- 36:38Speaker 2: really want to prove your point, you maybe should make
- 36:41Speaker 2: one school the the next Miami or USC and say hey, guys,
- 36:45Speaker 2: you're you're get a postseason ban, and that might maybe
- 36:48Speaker 2: turn turn heads more. So. Yeah, I guess I'm just
- 36:52Speaker 2: a little torn on it because it seems like in
- 36:55Speaker 2: Van Cuba for basketball or football, you're afraid to punch
- 36:58Speaker 2: the kids, which I get, But then are you truly
- 37:01Speaker 2: doing a punishment because a school like Michigan, financially, dude,
- 37:04Speaker 2: they're still gonna be printing green like crazy this year.
- 37:06Speaker 2: So you're gonna maybe ding them a little bit if
- 37:08Speaker 2: they make the playoffs, and you're gonna keep a couple
- 37:10Speaker 2: hundred thousand out of their pocket. But well, the way
- 37:12Speaker 2: that campus is, and you got one hundred thousand people
- 37:14Speaker 2: going to your game every Saturday, you're not gonna be
- 37:17Speaker 2: You're not gonna be bleeding money financially, I don't think.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, you know, when I first heard about it,
- 37:26Speaker 1: I was glad they didn't take away the championship because
- 37:29Speaker 1: the reason why, and a lot of people called for that,
- 37:32Speaker 1: but I think that's just calling for bullshit. It doesn't
- 37:34Speaker 1: make any sense because they busted the guy before they
- 37:38Speaker 1: made their whole run. He was already off the team,
- 37:41Speaker 1: So had now had they not busted them and they
- 37:44Speaker 1: went all the way won the championship, then they busted them. Well,
- 37:47Speaker 1: now you're talking differently, you know. Sure, yeah, that was
- 37:50Speaker 1: when they had to be Penn State, when they had
- 37:52Speaker 1: to beat Ohio State, when they had to beat Alabama,
- 37:54Speaker 1: when they had to be they didn't have that advantage.
- 37:56Speaker 1: So I was glad about that. And then I thought,
- 37:59Speaker 1: you know, I would of liked to see a scholarship reduction,
- 38:02Speaker 1: but then I really and we're not used to that's
- 38:06Speaker 1: my first thought. But then I thought, well, actually it
- 38:09Speaker 1: is a scholarship reduction because I just talked about that
- 38:13Speaker 1: house settlement that's gonna go through in that the athletic
- 38:17Speaker 1: department can now spend money on whatever teams you want,
- 38:21Speaker 1: and of course a lot of it's gonna be football
- 38:22Speaker 1: and basketball. So if you take away some of that
- 38:26Speaker 1: official revenue that actually does affect scholarships, you know, so
- 38:33Speaker 1: I kind of opened up my mind. It's like, yeah,
- 38:35Speaker 1: huh that they actually did take scholarships away now I
- 38:39Speaker 1: think about it, but uh, and then they're on I
- 38:45Speaker 1: will say they are on some you know, if if
- 38:47Speaker 1: they do anything even somewhat minor, I do think there're's
- 38:52Speaker 1: gonna be a bigger issue then, you know what I mean,
- 38:54Speaker 1: because they are on probation and shit like that. But yeah,
- 38:59Speaker 1: I mean so, I think ultimately moving forward the next
- 39:02Speaker 1: two years, the NLI still exist. Not that they have
- 39:08Speaker 1: the biggest nl I about everyone, but they have enough there.
- 39:11Speaker 1: But the other part of the revenue thing now where
- 39:14Speaker 1: you're athletic, that will it'll be interesting to see if
- 39:18Speaker 1: they can keep a team around that quarterback at a
- 39:20Speaker 1: high level, you know. So we'll see on that. But
- 39:25Speaker 1: that that and then we're going we'll also find out
- 39:28Speaker 1: and and be able to compare it to other teams
- 39:31Speaker 1: in the future, you know, and see was it just
- 39:34Speaker 1: the blue blood that got off or are they gonna
- 39:36Speaker 1: do that to a random school? You know? So did
- 39:41Speaker 1: I So, yeah, I don't know. I don't think they're
- 39:44Speaker 1: gonna win the you know, go to the final four
- 39:47Speaker 1: this year or nothing like that. Anyway, But you know,
- 39:50Speaker 1: it is a that is an interesting point. Maybe they
- 39:53Speaker 1: could have just had one year, you know. And another thing,
- 40:00Speaker 1: they actually, even though we know horbon knew, they couldn't
- 40:04Speaker 1: find the evidence that he actually that there's a paper
- 40:07Speaker 1: trail or a text trail, right, And I know people said, well,
- 40:13Speaker 1: you know, oh boy deleted Texas, but those are on
- 40:16Speaker 1: the cloud.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Dude, Yeah, they'll find it.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Yeah, so that I think that's more of a drama.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I deleted because I had to make room for photos.
- 40:28Speaker 1: You know, I think that sounds really goofy, right, But
- 40:33Speaker 1: ultimately I never heard a report where his phone was
- 40:36Speaker 1: not on the cloud, you know what I mean. So
- 40:39Speaker 1: once I hear that report, then I'd say, Okay, that's
- 40:41Speaker 1: suspicions of shit. But you know, if you're deleting Texas,
- 40:45Speaker 1: that doesn't do a damn thing, you know what I mean. Now,
- 40:48Speaker 1: did they have I don't know, did they have a
- 40:51Speaker 1: private investigator? I don't know that that. We'll see how
- 40:54Speaker 1: that works out. But moving on to real contenders. Obviously Texas,
- 41:02Speaker 1: I have a couple that I look at. Obviously, Texas,
- 41:08Speaker 1: Penn State. Because of the combinational they brought so many
- 41:12Speaker 1: people back. And then they also finally upgraded their wide receivers, which,
- 41:18Speaker 1: as we know, was that was a huge struggle. What
- 41:21Speaker 1: was it one catch in their final game or no
- 41:24Speaker 1: catches one or no catch in their final game from
- 41:26Speaker 1: the wide receivers, you know, Georgia, I think you got
- 41:31Speaker 1: to put up there. Can they get a run game going?
- 41:33Speaker 1: Can their old line get figured out? If so, I
- 41:36Speaker 1: think that helps the young quarterback. Notre Dame will figure
- 41:40Speaker 1: out if they're good enough at quarterback because their defense
- 41:44Speaker 1: is going to be nasty, Their running game is gonna
- 41:47Speaker 1: be nasty. They got an awesome running back, their line
- 41:51Speaker 1: is crazy, their secondary, but can that quarterback you know,
- 41:57Speaker 1: perform at a high level.
- 41:59Speaker 2: And then.
- 42:01Speaker 1: You look at Clemson right like they have so many
- 42:05Speaker 1: returning starters, and if this is ever the year that
- 42:10Speaker 1: Clemson's gonna do it their way, it has to be
- 42:13Speaker 1: this year because they are gonna lose talent next year. Finally,
- 42:16Speaker 1: because they developed a kind of old school way and
- 42:19Speaker 1: they actually did add like a a portal guy here there,
- 42:24Speaker 1: and we know a couple of years ago they added
- 42:26Speaker 1: an outside coordinator that they normally would go within. I
- 42:32Speaker 1: look at those as like real deal control and Ohio State,
- 42:38Speaker 1: but the quarterback and the D line. They lost so
- 42:40Speaker 1: much from that D line and then we don't know
- 42:43Speaker 1: about the quarterback. I would put them in that realm
- 42:47Speaker 1: just off of talent. But as far as like true
- 42:50Speaker 1: contenders right now, those are those that's my list. I
- 42:55Speaker 1: have a dark horse list. Would you add any more
- 43:00Speaker 1: or to that list as far as real contenders or
- 43:04Speaker 1: you know, because I do have several, you know, dark horses.
- 43:11Speaker 2: I would never cross off Alabama. I think that looking back,
- 43:16Speaker 2: de Boor had himself a pretty good first year there again,
- 43:19Speaker 2: they were what you could argue the first team missed
- 43:22Speaker 2: the playoff last year.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely were l LS.
- 43:27Speaker 2: You I think that. I think Brian Kelly's and he's
- 43:32Speaker 2: got some pressure on himself this year. Whether you believe
- 43:34Speaker 2: that or not, but I've been reading that. I've always
- 43:36Speaker 2: kind of not been the biggest fan of him. But
- 43:38Speaker 2: they also have a good quarterback coming back. So I
- 43:40Speaker 2: think LSU, if the pieces fall the way they should,
- 43:44Speaker 2: could have a shot at making a run. And then
- 43:48Speaker 2: I think someone out of the Big twelve this year,
- 43:50Speaker 2: you know, could potentially be a potential threat like Arizona
- 43:55Speaker 2: State shock people last year, and there's a reason. And
- 43:57Speaker 2: I know they've kind of loaded up again, and there's
- 43:59Speaker 2: a reason to think why they couldn't. And I think
- 44:01Speaker 2: the one name I've heard just around because they spent
- 44:04Speaker 2: a ton of money, uh, would be Texas Tech. Like
- 44:07Speaker 2: I think their preseason R eight twenty three, but some
- 44:10Speaker 2: some oil dude down there dropped dropped a lot of bags.
- 44:14Speaker 2: So could Texas Tech go to the Final four?
- 44:16Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 44:16Speaker 2: They probably could if you bought yourself a team like
- 44:18Speaker 2: Old Mist did or Ohio State did last year, and
- 44:21Speaker 2: maybe all the pieces fit. And I mean, hell, if
- 44:24Speaker 2: Texas Tech runs that are gattling through the Big twelve
- 44:27Speaker 2: and they're in there, they and they get maybe a
- 44:30Speaker 2: top four seed, they could do it.
- 44:31Speaker 1: You know, it get by their team last year. They
- 44:36Speaker 1: brought a lot of that back.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Or you know yeah, no, yeah, they.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Sent money of course, but they didn't buy that. They
- 44:44Speaker 1: didn't build it through the transfer portal. True.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you're right? Uh what yeah you said Ohio State?
- 44:52Speaker 1: Right?
- 44:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they spent a lot of my year. Right,
- 44:56Speaker 2: But now Texas Tech, like they I don't know, I
- 45:00Speaker 2: I don't know if it adds any peeps, I'll state,
- 45:01Speaker 2: but like if you've if you've accompany enough people to
- 45:04Speaker 2: where you have, you're gonna recognize and you've got a
- 45:06Speaker 2: guy that's just wanting to spend the cash. It won't
- 45:09Speaker 2: surprised me. And you have an easier route to make
- 45:11Speaker 2: it there than the teams in the Big ten or
- 45:13Speaker 2: the SEC. So yeah, I would just add Bama, LSU,
- 45:17Speaker 2: in Texas Tech. Obviously people in Lubwick are you gonna
- 45:20Speaker 2: have a lot of work to do, but maybe it
- 45:23Speaker 2: is that combination of everything fits and again your your
- 45:27Speaker 2: war path to get there to the final four is
- 45:29Speaker 2: much easier per se than in Alabama, LSU, Georgia. I
- 45:34Speaker 2: won't say Clemson is Clemson as or like Ohio State
- 45:37Speaker 2: or Penn State schedule.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Yeah and yeah. My point was that Ohio State brought
- 45:44Speaker 1: it back a bunch of talent that could have went
- 45:46Speaker 1: pro and that's where they spent most of their money on.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Whereas Tech Tech they did the nut. They had the
- 45:52Speaker 1: number one portal. You're right, they were going nuts in
- 45:55Speaker 1: the portal, so you gotta look at them like that. Now,
- 45:59Speaker 1: my dark horse is include a lot of the teams
- 46:01Speaker 1: you mentioned LSU. Can they have a solid defense and
- 46:06Speaker 1: then can that quarterback not throw the dumb pass, you know,
- 46:12Speaker 1: because the guys got talent. Like remember when they were
- 46:15Speaker 1: one loss during that during last year and we're like, oh,
- 46:18Speaker 1: hang on, they're starting to look the part and then
- 46:21Speaker 1: they got beat up by Texas A and M I
- 46:23Speaker 1: think it was. So can that QB really like get
- 46:29Speaker 1: rid of all that extra stuff, you know, because the
- 46:32Speaker 1: guy's talented, you know, he is talented. I have Bama too, QB.
- 46:38Speaker 1: But at Bama is stacked. They got a lot whoever
- 46:40Speaker 1: stayed after State and left a lot of those guys
- 46:44Speaker 1: are back, you know, so they are loaded. They are
- 46:47Speaker 1: really loaded. And it comes down to QB. I think
- 46:52Speaker 1: I put so I got and I also oregon QB.
- 46:56Speaker 1: You know they gotta. This is the first time they
- 46:58Speaker 1: don't have like a fifth year scene in a while.
- 47:02Speaker 1: So and the thing about More is he struggled as
- 47:06Speaker 1: a true freshman at UCLA. But the thing I do
- 47:11Speaker 1: like about it is he went someplace knowing he wasn't
- 47:14Speaker 1: going to be the starter and he sat there you
- 47:17Speaker 1: know what I mean, and learned. So that kind of
- 47:19Speaker 1: makes me think we'll see maybe some of that five
- 47:21Speaker 1: star talent can just fix because remember Bo Nicks when
- 47:24Speaker 1: he went to Oregon. It wasn't like he was lighting
- 47:27Speaker 1: things on fire in the sec right, he was struggling
- 47:32Speaker 1: in the big games. So we'll see there. I also
- 47:35Speaker 1: brought in South Carolina because of the quarterback. The d
- 47:42Speaker 1: line's still gonna be good, but they did lose talent
- 47:46Speaker 1: off of it, and you know, they closed so well,
- 47:53Speaker 1: but was it just they just got it going and
- 47:56Speaker 1: now they have to do it again in the tight games.
- 47:58Speaker 1: We'll see. You know, I would put Florida there if
- 48:03Speaker 1: their QB's healthy, because I think their defense is going
- 48:06Speaker 1: to be really good. But man, that schedule, the South
- 48:09Speaker 1: Carolina and Florida schedule is freaking ridiculous. So that's what
- 48:14Speaker 1: that's kind of like a fringe dark horse, i'd say.
- 48:19Speaker 1: And then oh, I mentioned Clemson earlier. You know Miami
- 48:26Speaker 1: at defense cornerbacks especially, they brought in literally like three
- 48:31Speaker 1: cornerbacks martial in a safety and they have like there
- 48:36Speaker 1: was two guys that were young that's that were like
- 48:39Speaker 1: the only good things of that secondary. But they also
- 48:43Speaker 1: are going to play a different style because clearly that
- 48:46Speaker 1: risk reward stuff wasn't working, especially as they got more injured.
- 48:50Speaker 1: It's like dude, come on, but their front seven is
- 48:53Speaker 1: gonna be nasty. We'll see if that secondary can go.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Like we'll get into the Miami stuff a little bit
- 49:00Speaker 1: more when we break down the game. But when you
- 49:03Speaker 1: go this deep though, I mean we just mentioned you know,
- 49:06Speaker 1: like eight, eight to ten teams.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Yeah, legit.
- 49:10Speaker 1: And then ASU by the way, I want to say,
- 49:14Speaker 1: they got their quarterback back, they got their stud wide
- 49:17Speaker 1: receiver back. I want to see, but remember when they
- 49:20Speaker 1: needed him, Scattabu always came with a big game. Yes,
- 49:25Speaker 1: can they have two or three guys that can be
- 49:28Speaker 1: productive and then the rest of the quarterback and the
- 49:30Speaker 1: wide receivers and all that takeover. I think you have
- 49:34Speaker 1: to put ASU in Texas Tech, in that dark horse,
- 49:39Speaker 1: just because we know they're capable, and especially with ASU,
- 49:42Speaker 1: because they we know that the coach is not going
- 49:44Speaker 1: to be there that much longer, unfortunately for Sun Devil fans.
- 49:48Speaker 2: But why he's there. He's a hell of coach. Yeah true. Yeah. Well,
- 49:54Speaker 2: I'm just gonna Florida. I was gonna say it sometime
- 49:58Speaker 2: or the show, and you mentioned it. I'm gonna say now,
- 50:00Speaker 2: Florida's schedule is just ungodly unfair. Their first game is
- 50:04Speaker 2: Long Island win, South Florida win. Okay, then their next
- 50:08Speaker 2: five out of six games, it's not even right. They
- 50:10Speaker 2: go Week three, they go to LSU. Next week they
- 50:15Speaker 2: go to Miami. So right now LSU is ninth, Miami's tenth,
- 50:19Speaker 2: I know, preseason numbers whatever. So you go to LSU,
- 50:22Speaker 2: go to Miami, then you host Texas, and then you
- 50:27Speaker 2: go to Texas A and M so you have to
- 50:30Speaker 2: play and two, I would say.
- 50:32Speaker 1: If they're they should get in the playoffs.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Two of the top five toughest environments in college football
- 50:37Speaker 2: at LSU and at Texas A and M. And then
- 50:40Speaker 2: springle between that, you got Miami Hurricanes at Miami and
- 50:43Speaker 2: you have to play Texas at home. And then after
- 50:46Speaker 2: that whole thing, you get to host Mississippi State, which
- 50:49Speaker 2: I'm just gonna call a loss now because after that
- 50:51Speaker 2: gotlet you probably need a breather. And then after you
- 50:54Speaker 2: host Mississippi State, you host Georgia. So in a five
- 50:59Speaker 2: games straight, five US the teams you gotta play LSU, Miami,
- 51:02Speaker 2: Texas and m and Georgia. Dude, that that's not even fair. Now.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Then compared to Missou, who I'm a fan of, Missouri.
- 51:11Speaker 2: If you got bread off missou is sec schedule, you
- 51:14Speaker 2: assume they're from a different planet. So you got to
- 51:17Speaker 2: take advantage of your yours you get because eventually there's
- 51:19Speaker 2: gonna be a year where Florida gets the Missoo type schedule.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Miszoo gets to Florida, it will take turns and they
- 51:24Speaker 2: have find ways to balance it out. But if you're
- 51:27Speaker 2: a Florida fantas, you're compared to Missouri fantas. Here Missoo
- 51:30Speaker 2: can make the playoff. Florida. I mean, if you get
- 51:32Speaker 2: through that grind, you deserve it. But Galdy that that's
- 51:35Speaker 2: a that's a beast of a schedule. Chris, that that's
- 51:38Speaker 2: some hard good luck.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Yeah, like I said it, they go nine and three.
- 51:43Speaker 1: I say, we signed a petition to get him in
- 51:45Speaker 1: the playoffs.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Yes, okay, Well the thing of all the quality wins
- 51:48Speaker 2: you would have.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly exactly, they'd be undeniable, man, I mean that
- 51:54Speaker 1: you'd have to give him in there. That is crazy, dude,
- 51:56Speaker 1: that is in South Carolina's got a tough schedule. Two
- 52:00Speaker 1: And it's funny because it almost ends up like a
- 52:05Speaker 1: home and home like the Big Ten tried to do,
- 52:08Speaker 1: because remember they had that schedule figured out, but then
- 52:10Speaker 1: they added four teams and so it kind of mixed
- 52:13Speaker 1: it up. So what I think they're doing is like
- 52:15Speaker 1: it's kind of like a like this the schedule we
- 52:20Speaker 1: had last year, we're gonna have in two years, and
- 52:23Speaker 1: then this year we have our schedule in the Big ten,
- 52:26Speaker 1: and then in two years we'll have that same just
- 52:29Speaker 1: home and away. So I think they're doing it that way.
- 52:31Speaker 1: But all I know is Florida for like next year
- 52:36Speaker 1: in the year after better have a light schedule. Same
- 52:39Speaker 1: with Oklahoma. Yeah, Texas a little bit. Now. Texas is
- 52:44Speaker 1: a stronger schedule this year than last year, but still
- 52:48Speaker 1: they don't have the run Like you're just mentioning South
- 52:50Speaker 1: Carolina is crazy too. So yeah, that that is crazy, dude,
- 52:57Speaker 1: that is Nuts's let's get into it week one obviously,
- 53:04Speaker 1: you know, eleven am on Fox number one, Texas at
- 53:10Speaker 1: number three Ohio state. You know, Texas is knocked on
- 53:16Speaker 1: that door fairly strongly in the last two years, and
- 53:21Speaker 1: we can now finally say that they are back as
- 53:24Speaker 1: a national powerhouse. We know the arch manning height is galore.
- 53:34Speaker 1: You know, we got to see him against lesser teams
- 53:38Speaker 1: past the ball. We got to see him run the
- 53:41Speaker 1: ball in big games near the goal line and all
- 53:45Speaker 1: that stuff. The fact that he's going into his third
- 53:49Speaker 1: year really is a big thing. The fact that obviously,
- 53:54Speaker 1: you know, he's got a good NLI or whatever, so
- 53:57Speaker 1: he stayed, which some guys maybe in his stature, would
- 54:01Speaker 1: have left if they didn't get the starting job last year.
- 54:04Speaker 1: So I think that bodes well. You could say they've
- 54:07Speaker 1: lost a lot of talent these last couple of years,
- 54:10Speaker 1: but they've also developed, and even the head coaches like, hey,
- 54:13Speaker 1: these are all my guys now, you know what I mean,
- 54:15Speaker 1: because he's been there for a while. So when I
- 54:17Speaker 1: think about that, I'm like, yeah, I mean, you could say,
- 54:20Speaker 1: like the offensive line is a bit of a question
- 54:23Speaker 1: mark right now, but you know, by the end of
- 54:27Speaker 1: the year, it'll probably be in good shape, you know.
- 54:30Speaker 1: And you also have a run threat now, a real
- 54:33Speaker 1: run threat in Manning to go along with two stud
- 54:36Speaker 1: because they get one of their studs that got hurt
- 54:38Speaker 1: backs to study running backs. They got outside talent. Ohio
- 54:43Speaker 1: State lost a whole bunch. I don't think they'll drop
- 54:47Speaker 1: off as much as Michigan did last year because of
- 54:53Speaker 1: what they have still on defense, but especially like wide receiver.
- 54:57Speaker 1: You know, if you look at the quarterback, it was
- 55:01Speaker 1: gonna be a struggle for Michigan. But then who they
- 55:04Speaker 1: have to throw to anyway, even if you could throw
- 55:05Speaker 1: the ball, you know, nobody, so that I don't think
- 55:09Speaker 1: they'll fall off as much. But the quarterback who's been
- 55:13Speaker 1: there for a little while, a little while and developed
- 55:16Speaker 1: and all that they got. You could say their defensive
- 55:19Speaker 1: line is going to be let's see, because they brought
- 55:22Speaker 1: they had so many guys back that have been there
- 55:25Speaker 1: so long. But when you have a guy like Downs
- 55:28Speaker 1: in the secondary, when you have the recruiting base, when
- 55:32Speaker 1: you can go get a guy, Yeah, Like I said,
- 55:36Speaker 1: I could see like a ten and two year for
- 55:38Speaker 1: Ohio State. I don't. I don't, which is funny because
- 55:41Speaker 1: that's what they were last year. But what are your
- 55:43Speaker 1: thoughts on this matchup? Are you believing the arch Manning hype, like, hey,
- 55:48Speaker 1: just hand him the Heisman right now? Or do you
- 55:50Speaker 1: think there might be some bumps and bruises and as
- 55:53Speaker 1: they figure this stuff out. I mean, Wells one and
- 55:59Speaker 1: a half point favorite right now, something like that.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that this is maybe some of the
- 56:04Speaker 2: most type we ever had for a kid that hasn't
- 56:07Speaker 2: really proven it much. Not that he can't be great,
- 56:08Speaker 2: but he you know, he hasn't He hasn't had a
- 56:11Speaker 2: competition like this yet, right, So obviously I think his
- 56:15Speaker 2: last name has done a lot for him. But also
- 56:17Speaker 2: he's crewing. He probably should be the starter, you know.
- 56:20Speaker 2: But to some of those points last year, if he
- 56:23Speaker 2: was that special, why did he take your spot? Because
- 56:26Speaker 2: yours isn't you know, youwers isn't gonna be some NFL
- 56:29Speaker 2: god on a Sunday. So in a way, maybe he.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Was banged up down the stretch of the seat.
- 56:34Speaker 2: So maybe Sarkisian sees something that we don't, or maybe
- 56:37Speaker 2: he was getting better throughout the year. Maybe it goes
- 56:39Speaker 2: and shows out. But again, if he loses this first
- 56:42Speaker 2: like big start in the roder House state, is that
- 56:44Speaker 2: slap in the face. Not really, No, So I I
- 56:48Speaker 2: do think that it seems like what I've been hearing
- 56:50Speaker 2: that maybe Texas has the a slight edge of the
- 56:53Speaker 2: better players on paper for this matchup. But as we
- 56:57Speaker 2: just said, just like uh Iowa State, case State or hell,
- 57:01Speaker 2: I was watching that Stanford Hawaii game like Week one,
- 57:06Speaker 2: people make mistakes, even even in the NFL they do.
- 57:08Speaker 2: So you know, as much as you and I want
- 57:11Speaker 2: to see a great game, which I think we could,
- 57:13Speaker 2: someone's gonna make some bone head mistakes because it's week one,
- 57:16Speaker 2: So I think I naturally kind of give the advantage
- 57:19Speaker 2: to the home team And now just text, will Texas
- 57:22Speaker 2: be scared to go to Ohio State? Hell no, but
- 57:25Speaker 2: what reason is Ohio State I'd be scared about facing Texas. Hey,
- 57:28Speaker 2: we won a national championship last year. Yes, both these
- 57:31Speaker 2: schools lost talent, but hell, Texas was a slip up
- 57:34Speaker 2: away from losing Arizona State. If they don't like full out,
- 57:38Speaker 2: send the blitz like crazy. So I think we're in
- 57:41Speaker 2: for a fun game. I do think the arch Manning
- 57:43Speaker 2: hype is a little bit over the top, but that's
- 57:45Speaker 2: how our media works out days. And he's got like, say,
- 57:47Speaker 2: he's got the name of the prestige. Yeah, so it'll
- 57:51Speaker 2: be a fun one. It'll be fun. You got Gus
- 57:53Speaker 2: Johnson on the call. I think I even heard that
- 57:55Speaker 2: game day is gonna ESPN is gonna be there too,
- 57:57Speaker 2: with like kind of the finale for Cours. So it's
- 57:59Speaker 2: not be kind of a cool touch. So I am
- 58:02Speaker 2: excited to watch. I'm going to lean towards Ohio State.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Just I think you got to give the advantage to
- 58:07Speaker 2: the home team. I think if you were to make
- 58:09Speaker 2: like a checklist of a colin b who has the advantages,
- 58:13Speaker 2: I think you could probably go back and forth on
- 58:14Speaker 2: which team you like more, or you can find a
- 58:16Speaker 2: way to spin either way. But it is really cool
- 58:19Speaker 2: that essentially, I know, we started our season yesterday, but now, brother,
- 58:23Speaker 2: we get this for the first game of week one.
- 58:26Speaker 2: That's a bous goods we can get for college football.
- 58:28Speaker 2: And that's why I don't want to get the twenty
- 58:31Speaker 2: four or twenty sixteen playoff team, because teams will be
- 58:34Speaker 2: scared to do this game because I do it. If
- 58:36Speaker 2: you're Texas Ohio State, we don't need to schedule games
- 58:39Speaker 2: like this because we're already in like, let's cakewocket for
- 58:42Speaker 2: weeks one through three, you know, and not maybe do
- 58:45Speaker 2: games like this, which would hurt the fans and the
- 58:47Speaker 2: players in the long run.
- 58:49Speaker 1: Now, you can also make the argument that when it
- 58:51Speaker 1: is twelve, fourteen or sixteen, that they're not going to
- 58:54Speaker 1: schedule those games because they don't want to take an
- 58:56Speaker 1: extra l whereas in this system, not that I want
- 59:00Speaker 1: the twenty four teams or twenty eight teams, but in
- 59:02Speaker 1: that system it's more loosey goosey. Maybe they'd be looking
- 59:05Speaker 1: for a higher seed, you know. I don't know.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you flipped that way too, I don't know.
- 59:10Speaker 1: You're right, it is a flip or a flip of
- 59:13Speaker 1: a coin type game. I don't think we'll see because
- 59:16Speaker 1: remember Florida or sorry Texas in Michigan, that big matchup
- 59:20Speaker 1: early and they just they basically Michigan them. They just
- 59:23Speaker 1: ran the ball on him so much. I don't think
- 59:26Speaker 1: we're gonna see that. But I am gonna go Texas.
- 59:29Speaker 1: I don't know if I I'm not handing the the
- 59:33Speaker 1: the heisman over to him, that's for sure. I do
- 59:36Speaker 1: gotta see more because even remember he went from like
- 59:40Speaker 1: an FS seed progress FCS and and then he when
- 59:47Speaker 1: he played was it Mississippi State or he did actually
- 59:49Speaker 1: play a conference.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Gametke Yeah, and he didn't.
- 59:53Speaker 1: And it was like it didn't look as good, you know,
- 59:57Speaker 1: and they weren't good either, you know, but they weren't
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: you know, they weren't a bracket lower. But so yeah,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I'm not. I think it's just they they've lost so
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: much even though they just won the championship. You know,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: I think that I it's a picking game. I'm just
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: maybe you know, Texas right near the buzzer late fourth quarter.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: I am gonna go with them to get the job done.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't have any money on it. So
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: but I'm excited for that game, no doubt about it.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: Another high profile game. You know, it's the battle of
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: the same name for their home crowd, their home stadium,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: right Clemson and LSU. Now we know who the real
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: death value is. Yes, that's not up for debate, and
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: both of this is the really I mean, we're just
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: talking about these are real contenders that we got going
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: and and I think my he's more of a dark horse.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: But when we get to Notre Dame Miami, Like, dude,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: this is crazy that we have these these true contenders
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: are dark horses or fringe dark horse however you want
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: to look at it in these matchups. But you know,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: breaking this game down, it's interesting because Clemson, man, they
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: have like I mentioned, they have so much returning talent.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: They it's right around a four point advantage right now.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: You know, if you look at the line. Offensive line,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: it's stacked, defensive line stacked there. They got a guy
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: who really did look better last year at quarterback, the
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: wide receiver talents there, like I mentioned, they even went
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: outside and got it. Seems like everybody's got a Purdue
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: player this year. I noticed, you good, Hey, the Gophers
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: freaking they got a Purdue guy to a tight end.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: So I'm happy. No, this is the year for Dabbo.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I mean this, if he wants to do his system
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: a certain way. If they don't get to the final four,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: he may go back to the drawing board. And I
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: know that's kind of tough, but you can't have this
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: much return in production and have a three year starter
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: at quarterback and not make a run.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: But then LSU we talked about it, man like if
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: that defense can just be solid, if they can get
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: back to a running game. They did lose a lot
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: of offensive line talent, but then they brought in a
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: fair amount of talent too. I think that Nessmeier. I
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: think he is a guy that is going to be
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: a combine Like they're gonna love him at the combine,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: right because he just looks the part. But in game decisions.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Where's he at with that? Having another year back, he
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: could have went pro last year. I'm happy came back
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: because he needs to. But what are your thoughts on
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: this one? I'm going Clemson to win this game just
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: by the hair of their chinny chin chins. But Ellen,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: that's another thing, dude, what is it? This would be
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: oh to four? I think uh to begin games for
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: for LSU under Kelly right, because they the one thing
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: I'll say is they generally schedule a tough ass game.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I'll give Matt. It was USC last year that beat
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: a member of that game. Yeah, in all these games
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: they had a chance to. You know, it was always
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: a chance to. Oh they could have, should have, would have,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: but they just can't get it done. So I mean
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: it's almost a must win in that sense for LSU.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: You know, this is that I think chemistry of us
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: working together for so long, like you stole my point
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: and not that this is like the insider knowledge. But yeah,
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: what's gonna be is that LSU always loses these opening
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: games because before the before the USC one, they had
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: that blunder of loss FSU, which was a pay philosopher
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: my ls. Yeah, a couple of good LSU friends. So,
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: and I'm not cheering for Dabbo. I maybe I've changed
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: as a man this year, but I changed him too
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: much of that direction. I will never support that man.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: So not a Clemson fan. But if we're talking money
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: in a bet, like you know, I think he got
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: a lean towards puncher, just because again, Brian Kelly, who
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: you know, finds a way to get those nine to
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: ten wins, He's struggled as a coach to get that
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: first win of the year in a tough game. So
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: your track records telling you that, you know, yeah, uh
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: you should favor Clemson. I'm gonna pick LSU. But uh now,
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: if you are l.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: S, you like you, you like less hate Kelly compared
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: to Dabbo. Is that what's going on here? I will
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: never like either of them, Yeah, but you're willing to
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: at least lends the There's there's Navo and James Franklin.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: There's a a ten step drop, so you know this,
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: James Franklin love, this could be a long year for me, Chris.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: If we're getting trust me, we'll get to that.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: If the Natty is Penn State Clemson, I I probably
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: wouldn't watch I maybe for you for the show. But
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: if it's Penn State Clemson for a national title, I'll
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: just I'll just check on Twitter. I'll just I'll put
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: on that that would be that'd be my worst case survived,
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: which could happen this year.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope it doesn't.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: So yeah, I just think that obviously both these teams
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: are talented. LSU is always LSU maybe has a couple
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: more athletes. I just in general probably come more far
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: four stars, five stars. But that doesn't necessarily mean you're
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: the better team. But hey, it's again, are you the
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: team's gonna be scared? No? But again, which team makes
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: the least amount of mistakes? Last year? In LSU played
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: USC and in Vegas again couped too many mishaps. Defense
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: let up a little bit too much too Again Yeah,
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: just like I gave the advantage to Ohio State. I
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: do think now again, I think Death Valley elis you
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: Trump's that fell like Clemson, but Clemson's at home. That
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: that is that extra energy you get from your home crowd.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: But yeah, I can't I can't say those words. I
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: think Brian Kelly shakes off the dust, He's ready to
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: go because if they do lose this one, though, them
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: LSU fans are gonna saying, dude, come on, I'll retires,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: you know, and those ls defense got really at leash.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I again tellent for tell wise, if you
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: make Ex's nose box, you're probably gonna you could debate
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: who you want to win. It's a coin flip matchup now. Defensively,
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: you probably would have to put a check in the
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: box for Clemson. Yes, you know, LSU has always had
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: the recruits. I think you just can't give him on
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: the same game plan. So maybe maybe they've tweetded this
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: or who knows. It can't be much worse. Uh Yeah,
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: the Tigers gonna win, Chris Tiger's gonna win.
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Tigers are gonna win. All right. I think that's
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: a good bet. It's a win win scenario because we
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: don't have any draws anymore so.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: And the cool thing is, man that the Florida the
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: excuse me that Florida, Ohio State Texas is at eleven
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: and the LSU Clemsons at six thirty. So you get
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: you get a good little little break in the afternoon. Obviously,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: that Alabama Florida State game a couple of years ago,
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: probably was gonna be like the triple header that does
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: not have the same boxis that could in the past.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: But you get to watch Ohio State Texas, maybe take
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: a nap, run a couple of errands in your back
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: for LSU Clemson night. It really is a great Saturday
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: six days from now.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's not going head to head with the
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: next game. We're gonna Taco because that's on Sunday. As
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: we know that first week one spreads out all the
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: way to Monday. But we have Notre Dame against Miami,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: a rivalry that goes way back. I remember when I
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: was a kid, you know, wondering why a certain T
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: shirt was all over the stadium and especially you know
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: when we talk about what kind of school it is,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: and you'd think that they wouldn't allow that, but you know,
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: it is what it is. Notre Dame is stacked on defense.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: The secondary is crazy to defense. It's just it's there, man,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: And they actually like we're They were ahead of schedule
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: clearly last year and it got all the way to
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: the final game. Now, quarterback what is CJ. Carr? I
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: think he is the grandson of Carr from Michigan the coach,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: so and there is a little bit of a surprise.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Some people thought the other young quarterback would win the job.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: But that love is awesome at running back. So if
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: you got a hell of a defense, an aggressive secondary
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: and just nasty defense in general, and then you can
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: run the ball, that does line up well for a
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: young quarterback to take over. On the Miami side. You know,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: we talked about it like their front seven is gonna
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: be nasty if it stays healthy. Can the secondary make
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: just a solid jump, you know, just be not fucking sibs,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: you know what I mean, because that's what they were
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: last year. And they do have actually a guy that
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: coached the defense for Minnesota, and it is gonna be
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: a little bit different system, not as risk reward type
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: thing to where just blitz so much that yeah, you
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: make tackles for losses, but you also give up a
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: lot on the back end. Now, they obviously bring in
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: a quarterback that heading in the last year was a
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: Heisman guy. He was inconsistent. He had like two games
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: especially that were like a lot of picks, a lot
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: of just bad throws or whatever ended up getting hurt.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: You know, when comparing Georgia on offense to Miami on offense.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: You know, Georgia's offensive line wasn't up to par last year.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: They didn't have a running game, and I don't remember
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: where they ranked if it was number one in drops
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: in the nation, but I know in the league the
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: SEC uh, they dropped a lot of balls too. So
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: when I look at it, it's gonna be an upgrade
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: on offensive line because Miami has one of the better
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: offensive lines, so they already have a run game. They're
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: deep at running back. Now they don't have the talent
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: they had to throw to last year, whether it's in
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: the pros or transferred. But I'm not comparing compared to
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: what Georgia had last year. I doubt that they're gonna
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: lead the you know, acc and drop balls, you know
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: what I mean, the odds that that would happen. It
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: could happen, but I don't think they'll be as bad
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: as my point, So I think that this will help
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: out the quarterback a lot more. I do like Beck
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: just in this system, so I think that they're They're
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: not gonna be as explosive as they were last year
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: per se, that's for sure. But the big thing last
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: year was defense obviously, you know that was why they
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: lost those games. So he's not gonna be like Ward,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: but they still should be productive and be a top
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: twenty offense or something like that, because they did lose
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: a tight end to the league, but they have two young,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: really good tight ends, so we'll see. They got a
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: mixture of young guys that showed a lot of potential
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: on a wide receiver and then they brought in some events. Actually,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: this Daniels kid, I believe from LSU were just talking
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: about them. So, you know, I want myamy to win, obviously,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: but something tells me that Notre Dame is gonna win
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: by just a hair. I actually have a VET in
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: minus two and a half Notre Dame, so they win
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: by three. What are your thoughts on that? So I have,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: unfortunately I have Notre Dame winning the game, but I
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: am wondering exactly what that young quarterback can do for
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Notre Dame. They don't have the VET like they did
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: last year.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: So actually, it's kind of funny you mentioned the old
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: life for Miami because one of the guys I coached
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: with my school, he actually played football at ut horns
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: Down and he was talking about how he's really excited
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: because and he was the lineman in Texas. He talked
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: about how he was excited for the lineman to watch
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: them play at Miami this year, and he was talking
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: about how they got to help an old line in
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: that Chris Ball does a great job of coaching that up.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: So yeah, when I you're a guy, tell me I'm
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: excited for an old line like that's you know, something
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: you normally don't hear.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: But then you look at Notre Dame, Chris, and that's
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: literally kind of what they build their DNA off of.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: But there literally are an old line d line team
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: like and they normally Notre Dame always has a good
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: uh future NFL tied end, but they normally don't have
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: flashy wide receivers per se. That's something we've discussed over
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: the last few years about how your passing game is
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: okay at times. So with all this being said, I
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: think where slight edge is the fact is that Vegas
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: has Notre Dame as a favorite, which prizes me a
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: little bit. I think maybe just from what they accomplished
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: last year, maybe.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: I had a schedule to last year.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and Miami they didn't have a bad year last
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: year by any means Miami at all, but just the
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: fact that yeah made Miami has little more of an
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: ex zos advantage compared to the first two games we
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: discussed on the show earlier. Man, I just to me
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: might and obviously I don't know the hurricane as well
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: as you do, but to me, it's that lasting image
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: of like Miami's defense just a couple of times last
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: year just had a couple too many struggles and they
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: could get in a high scoring game, but oh dude,
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: cam Ward, Oh dude, he's got you. Like all right,
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: our defense gave up points. Cam wore got you like
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: that col game was like insane, and a lot of
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: other ones were like, hey, we're gonna give up thirty eight,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: but we'll drop fifty two on your ass, so we're good.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: But then you have the Georgia Tech and Syracuse games
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: where they you know, he could keep store because it's like, dude,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: at some point, you know, I'm not I'm not gonna
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: store every time, you know.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and obviously Carson Beck is probably going to be
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: cam Ward, so I would give a slight edge Notre
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: Dame and just like playing like LSU, man, they on
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: really do schedule themselves for a pretty hard game one
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: of the year, and they kind of have to because
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: they're not in a conference. But I'm with you, I'm
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: gonna give a slight edge the Irish. But again, they
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: got a young kid making his first big start on
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: the road. That's a huge what if just like arch
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Manning's going to Ohio State, this car kid is going
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: to Miami where it's maybe not death value, but it's
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: still a huge environment. And you're on the road, and again,
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: are you gonna have some receiver cell bail you out
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: or it is just gonna be run game to death?
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Because remember last year when Notre Dame played a and
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: m it was there. There weren't many wide receivers available.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: It was run, run, run through to your tight end.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: So you know, and I do realize that when I
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: give some of my points, it's like, yes, college football
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: change over time, but a lot of these teams like
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: that DNA doesn't change like So it's fair to say
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: Notre Dame is probably gonna run the shit out of
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: the ball. If Miami's defense is better improved, they could
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: probably win. If Notre Dame controls a lot of scrimmage.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Irish probably, you know, like there's some of those teams
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: that like Notre Dame is not gonna be a four
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: wide wide receiver show next Sunday, I don't think anyway,
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: So slight edge to the Irish, and hey, if your
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: Carson back again, you don't try to do what cam
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Moore did, but just kind of find your own system
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: and you're gonna play make Miami always has playmakers. It's
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: just how does he distribute the ball and how how
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: will the offense adapt to a new guy who again
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: is a reliable quarterback but not the athletic virtuals that
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: cam Ward had.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, him, you know, getting every little bit out
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: of every play, you know, like hanging out of the
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: ball the last second, delivering it. You know. But yeah,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: it's kind of a win win for me because I
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: either win a bet or Miami wins, you know what
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: I mean. Every once in a while throughout a season,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: I'll do that and be like I'm good dude, either
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: way I could. You know, it is what it is.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: You know, I either put money in my pocket or
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: will be money well spent, you know. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: the way I look at it. So other games that
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: really strike me. Auburn, can they finally start to move
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: upwards because they did hit the portal hard. They they've
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: developed guys on their team. Will that quarterback, you know,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: thrive in a system that he couldn't necessarily thrive? And know,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: you know, Oklahoma also had like five or six receivers
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: out in that team, you know, and their line wasn't
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: that great or whatever. But I like what Baylor's building
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: and so I'm gonna I'm gonna go with, you know,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: at Baylor. I'm gonna go with Baylor, but I think
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: the Auburn at Baylor. I do want to see what
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Nebraska has this year. The as we know, the one
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: score games has been their thing, but they got a
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: returning quarterback who needs to tighten up but should be
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: able to be better. Cincinnati's not great. It's a six
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: and a half point, you know, favorite for Nebraska on
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: the road. But if Nebraska's gonna be a top twenty
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: five team the whole year, they gotta they gotta obviously
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: beat this team, and we got to see how it goes.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: So I do like that Nebraska at Cincinnati. I'm going Nebraska,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: but you know, I like it Georgia Tech ad a
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: rebuilding colorat We saw what that the the quarterback was
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: able to do at Georgia Tech down the stretch even
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: at h with Miami too, that was one of his
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: first games that he started, you know, in that crazy
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: game you mentioned earlier with Georgia, you know, like they
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: really showed something there. Yes, and then Colorado has a
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: vet quarterback and a five star young quarterback. Will they
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: play both? I doubt it. Maybe there'll be a little
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: package for the youngster. But if you look at wide
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: receiver talent too, they lost a lot of wide receivers
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: to the draft. So I think that's a good game
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: though at Colorado that is a great environment now again,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: and then another one Utah. Can they bounce back and
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: be the program we know they can be at UCLA
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: who started to kind of turn Speaking of tough schedules,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: you at UCLA last year had a tough schedule. Nobody
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: thought of them as a threat or nothing like that.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: But they are recruiting better and they you know, they're
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: starting to They went and got Nico. Let's see if
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Nico can play better though in big games. But Utah
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: Ucla kind of gives me that after you know, Pac
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: twelve after Dart type vine.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: Well, and I didn't mention this one before. And again
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: I think if we did this show three years ago,
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: we it would be a bigger hype game. But if
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: you're Mike norvel in Florida State, holy shit, Like I'm
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: not saying you got beat Bama, but make yourself look good. Yeah,
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: because they've had that opening game of the year stretch
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: for the last couple of years now and it's just
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: been a joke. So even I think, I think if
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: you cover the spread, Florida State's a thirteen and a
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: half point underdog at home. I think if for them
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: to cover the spread and look respectable versus team would
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: be a wine you know. And I know we had
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: a couple of years ago where they missed the playoff
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: because they had some bad luck with the quarterback got hurt,
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: and since then the last years have been hell. So
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: what what, man, if you're Mike Cornovelle, if you win
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: this game, that probably feel like twenty pounds off your
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: off your off your shoulders. Like I'm not saying it'll happen,
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: but could it. It could well? And if you're Bama,
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: of course, you know you're just gonna try to show
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: show off, show off the goods. I know they I'm
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: sure that kids probably like a nineteen year old receiver
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: right now, that tyre what should be eighteen or nineteen?
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: So he's not eighteen because he was saying, there are
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: seventeen you know, no, maybe he is nineteen by now
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: by the yeah, I don't remember. He's gone.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but so I but that will be a
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: fun game. You know, it'll be out two thirty out
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: and I'll copy and paste you. I think Utah UCLA
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: should be fun. Finally if you're us, if you're Utah, dude,
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: Cam Rising's finally gone. Like that was kind of like
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: a good solid quarterback, but also it was like a
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: dark shadow over your team for so many years. That
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: is he gonna play as he heard, he's gonna play again.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: That was getting so old man and Winningham must be like, dude,
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: all right, you know you've you've had your run here.
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: I thank you for what you did, but dude, but
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: when need to move on as a as a program.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: And it feels we're saying because we're not talking NFL,
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: but it felt like he was like an NFL team.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: He was there forever. So that's a new beginning. And
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: U c l A that that Deshaun Foster had a
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: weird press conference start off the year pretty ugly, but
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: to his credit, even with a brutal travel schedule, guy
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: his system going.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: So that and that's recruiting really well now, So I
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: actually do kind of believe in him all of a sudden.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: And that and that's the ten o'clock kickoffs. That's one
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: of those Hey, you're tired, you're you're you're either up, down,
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: up or down. Money, you're sleeping, you're drinking, something's going on,
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: having some gummies. I don't know, But if you're away
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: for that one, hey, that'll be that'll be a great game.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: And kind of like a little bit of a quieter
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: when I suppose you could say, like Syracuse, Tennessee, like
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: you know, it's again thirteen half points spread. Uh, let's see, Yeah,
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: now Tennessee again. Last couple of years, they've they've put
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: together a hell of an offense. But there's no more Milton,
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: there's no more of the the dude from last year
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: with a really yeah, he's gone. So you know, Tennessee,
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: they beat they beat Bama last couple of times like.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: They were more defense and running game. Remember they lost
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: the running game since.
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: Yeah they could they couldn't score last year, but their
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: defense one for him. So is Tennessee gonna be a
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: team who are right now? I think if you ask
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: people in SEC, they kind of looked over. Uh, but
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: I'm sure Tennis defense will love to compete for an
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: SEC title or or can they make a playoff again?
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: You know? Possibly? So yeah, but the fact that we
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: have two huge games week one and then honestly, the
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: media they'll come around to it.
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: But on so that before your team plays. Uh actually,
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: oh yeah, Monday. Monday will be the Belichick game, which
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: will be fun. It's gonna be news. He'll be curious
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: to see how Belichick does. He's been on the news
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: a lot lately. Sound know, maybe his uh his lady
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: put him like he's not allowed to talk to the media.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe maybe he's been sidelined.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: But the vo Tech South Carolina game, that'll be a
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: fun one. Like that's at two o'clock on Sunday before
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: you're irish and uh or not, excuse me, your Hurricanes
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: played the Ida that that was a miss. That was
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: a mistake that was on purpose. I won't even talk
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: that's that's beyond talking trash uhli. But vo Tech has
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: been improving of late and South Carolina they're probably their
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: their goal probably is to make the playoffs this year.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: So I kind of wish it would be at vo
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Tech to hear enter Sandman Blair of the speakers. But
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: Leonora sellers, Hey, last year, you all kind of surprise people,
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: and can you can you be a team that's gonna
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: contend for a playoff spot this year or you're gonna
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: maybe a little bit short against So yeah, overall, dude,
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: we're looking for a great week one which means next
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: week will be a very fun uh recap week.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: Yeah, that's TCU, TCU. A lot of a lot of
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: folks think that they're going to be on the rise
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: this year. Okay, and they are a three and a
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: half point favorite against North Carolina. Who knows, you know
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: what the North Carolina? You know, we'll figure this out.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: You know what, we'll figure out. What you know is
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: he just saying, Hey, I'm gonna be here for like
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: a year or two and then I'm gonna dip back
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: to you know, pros or you know what, what's his mind?
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Stay?
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: Yes, And also we still got to find out how
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: they met. We we don't know how they met, you know,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: she she shut that down in the interview. You know,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: they don't. That was really weird when the camera went
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: to her and she's like, let's not talk about how
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: we met. It's like, that's that's kind of interesting. But yeah,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: it's a great week one. And like you mentioned the
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: first couple of weeks, man, don't go too crazy, you know, yeah,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: don't go off. Last year, don't go off, we'll do
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: look what they did in the portal. True, but we
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: still got to see it on the on on the field.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: So I'm excited for this one for sure. Man.
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: All right, well, if you're new to the show, this
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: is a segment that if this is your fifte we've
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: been doing it for at least the last eleven years.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: It is the Crafty Crafty pick of the week. Uh.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: He got nicknamed the Crafty bet because he had a
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: couple of years. I mean, he was this huge sports guy.
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: So that nickname is stuck. And so we do this
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: segment every week where I find a really bad football game. Uh,
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: and I don't tell him the match up before and
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: he picks it. Last year we had a bit of
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: an actual down here, but for the probably for the
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: past ten years we probably hit a sixty to seventy
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: percent every year. But this just a pear random fun
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: guessing a crappy situation game that with the points bread
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: its close. So to start off this week one of
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: the twenty twenty six Crafty Craft Pick the Week, We're
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: going to Saturday. We're going at two thirty pm plus.
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: Uh and these teams have been introduced to the segment before.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: It's not new. We're having the Uh. I believe John
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: Cheney's gonna show up for Temple Owls and Marcus you
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: mat is that Conference USA? It is? Let's see, yeah,
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: Temple is the American American American Y Yeah, alright, so
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: the Temple Owls are facing off versus the U Mass
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: Minute men. Like I said, it is a two thirty
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: kick on Saturday afternoon on ESPN plus. So if you
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: if if Bama's up forty on Florida State by halftime,
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: you know you can switch your television to Temple at
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: U Mass Wow thirty six dollars to get in the door.
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: It is that the Warren the Girk alumni statement Amherst, Massachusetts.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: The Temple Owls, despite being the road team, our favorite
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: to beat the U. Mass minute men. The weather's supposed
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: to be seventy five degrees and Crys will break this
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: down and I'll do the alumni battle after. Are you
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: good to go, my friend?
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: I am good to go. It kind of freaked out
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: there for a second, but I am good to go. Now,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: these stats are based off last year. You mass run that,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: you know what out of the ball one hundred and
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: sixty three yards on the ground compared to ninety two.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: So that and you know the the passing is not
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: that crazy. The problem you give up one hundred and
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: sixty or you U mass right the rush of one
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: hundred and sixty three last year. Now I don't know
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: this year, but last year Temple was giving up to
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: twenty five a game. Last I heard, that's not good.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: I heard in Philly they're talking about let's shut down
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: the football program. And you know what, not that long
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: ago Al Golden In company. They were actually a decent program.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: They were, Oh yeah, they were al golden In.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: The guy after Algona for some reason, I can't think,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: oh the he went to he's a uh he's at Nebraska.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: I think it was rule actually.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: Rule, yeah, that rules. Yeah.
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: Yeah. So you know, off the bat, I was going Temple. Yep, Temple, man,
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: you know, but geez.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Like, I don't know this year obviously, but I was
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: thinking Temple right off the bat. But now the more
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: I think about it, and it is gonna be televised
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: like you said, you know on ESPN plus, I'm gonna
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: go with the home team as much as I you know,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: I think it's that Brandon Rose. He won the starting
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: QB gig. That's what it says right here. I don't
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: know who he is, but he beat out aj Harrison
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: and Grant Jordan, So I mean, you know, that's not easy.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: That's not easy. But he he did transfer from Utah,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: so that I like the sounds of that. That's some familiarity.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go with the minute men to win
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: in the last minute. You see what I did there?
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: Hey, the the home dog week one, I love it, sir,
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: I love it. Oh and well actually and since we did,
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: now this was official, but last year you kicked that's
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: on this uh the over under.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: Because last year you went like seven to five and
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: over Runners. You did great over Runners.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: I'm going under forty nine and a half.
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: Okay, all right, going.
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: Under sloppy, ugly game. Try to run the clock out,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: all right.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: For the alumni, battle man, I've done these schools so
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: often that we I know the people. For you Mass,
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: name favorite alumni obviously. Uh, that is where Calipari started.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: Richard Gear the movie actor, Natalie Cole, Julius Irving, Marcus Camby.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: Oh sorry, Rick Patino, you know that. Uh a name
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: that I won't say because you know he went there.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: But he's he's he's locked up right now. Uh. Overall,
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: Bridge at moynihan U MASS has a very respectable alumni.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: Famous Temple alumni. Uh John Oates from the band Man
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: seriously did uh Bill Cosby went to both the colleges.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: Oh I did, I know he went to Temple, but
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: I didn't know that.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: I didn't know he went to Yeah, he's on you, Mass.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: I didn't know he went to Okay.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: I mean all right, well yeah at uh yeah, I
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: mean Overall I got, you know, with the basketball names,
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: the coaching names, the pedigree. Uh, just kind of higher
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: profile actors. I got to give my nudge to the
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: U Mass. So I'm taking U Mass in the alumni battle.
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: And also he's staying you mess on the field, so
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: we're going for the U Mass. Minute man also did
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: the point guard Chads Williams. I love watching the n
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: I t it was like a five foot eleven point guard.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: That dude was a little baller.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: So now, are you gonna text yourself this information? Are
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: you gonna write it down? Or what? What are you
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: gonna do? You always got questions from me. I got
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: a question for you. Are you gonna keep Are you
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: gonna keep track of this in any form or passion?
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: I think I think for the past seven years, I've
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: normally always forgot this time. Indeed, I'm gonna use my
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: notes app and take notes for hot tops during the
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: game and for this segment so I don't have to
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: ask you or replay the podcast.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: Part of the podcast. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: You know that. You know I'm a new man, Chris
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: forty years old, new life, new experiences. I'm gonna figure
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: my shit out. It only takes about twelve years to
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: figure this out, but I'm changing it prooved. So on
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: that note, as I progress, Hey, next week man again,
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: get the groceries and the errands and stuff that because
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: Texas and uh ohiose stated eleven and then death vibvers
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: death bellot at six thirty and maybe maybe Florida State
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: shocks roll and beats Bama that that would be kind
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: of fun for Norvell and just to get the bam
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: of people Pissedop saying, y'all are at the playoffs already
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: this year, so.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: We'll be back, even come back please.
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh de Bo's gotta god. Bor's out, he sucks,
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: he's trashed. Ty Simpson needs to get cut. So we'll
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: be back next week to break down, which should be
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: a really fun week one. And man, it's gonna be
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: a fun year. We can't wait. Have a good day.
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: The boys are out piece
