- 0:47Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast along with my
- 0:51partner. Brian, Sigler, I am Curtis
- 0:53Wilson big guy. How are you doing tonight?
- 0:57Doing good, buddy, doing good. Got the NFL game on here,
- 1:00looking at some Lakers. Well, got a little Brew.
- 1:04How about you, man? I don't have the NFL game,
- 1:07although you informed me, a little while ago, my tight end.
- 1:10Like just said, he scored a touchdown.
- 1:12I appreciate that. Got the college game on over
- 1:14here. The real battle for Alabama,
- 1:16South Alabama, you a be watching your money as well.
- 1:22Got a nine-point lead with six minutes left in the second half.
- 1:27It's it is approximately 950 won.
- 1:32Thursday night. And as of right now, as we
- 1:37pressed record, the Hokies are playing this week.
- 1:41The Hokies game has not been moved.
- 1:43Ladies and gentlemen, we are less than 48 hours from kickoff
- 1:50fingers crossed bangs 12 men and I tell you so much of the stuff
- 1:56we've seen this week coming out. You know if you noticed voice of
- 2:01the Hokies John laser-like he officially Stalked, the
- 2:06broadcast Booth with snacks and it's kind of like oh a second.
- 2:10Okay, this guys getting ready to be sitting in a booth for close
- 2:14to six hours, got to have some food and then have you been
- 2:18keeping up with Trey Turner in the countdown?
- 2:20Oh yes, oh yes. I was sad when it started over
- 2:23last week, but it's nice to see. We've, we've gotten below five
- 2:28this week, so we're down to two. Let's keep it moving.
- 2:32We'll see one tomorrow and hopefully, we'll know new
- 2:35information will come out. That'll change course.
- 2:38So let's play some hopeful, but I feel like we're we're as close
- 2:44to it as we can get at this point.
- 2:45I feel like barring a huge unforeseen circumstance that
- 2:50puts us out of the compliance for the ACC protocols.
- 2:54We're rolling with what we have and then it's been cool like
- 2:59seeing the pictures of the field.
- 3:01Up. And then the day that pick the,
- 3:03the full-on view of Lane, which was absolutely beautiful.
- 3:06It looks ready to be played and then tonight, did you see the
- 3:13Jersey reveal? I haven't caught that yet.
- 3:15I know you said you caught that. What was that?
- 3:17Like, very nice. Some basic, you know, nothing
- 3:20special, just your maroon top with the stripes white pants.
- 3:26No special. Divine Diablo was modeling in
- 3:28the 25, which I'm hoping that A good sign, maybe he's playing
- 3:33Saturday, the tainted this week, if they, if they put a video of
- 3:38him, maybe that was shot this week.
- 3:41And if that was shot this week, that makes me feel good about
- 3:43him being a go. Speaking of 25 looks like good
- 3:48old Jr. Walker is going to be wearing
- 3:5025, ABS the game on Saturday. Absolutely, the redshirt
- 3:55freshman man. Who pretty big commit?
- 3:58When he came last year we're in the 25 sep.
- 4:01As a lot, he was the backup nickel.
- 4:05I don't know if he's going to be the backup nickel.
- 4:07I think he might be playing somewhere else.
- 4:09I think the depth charge kind of.
- 4:10Yeah, my opinion right now. I'm not sure what to think about
- 4:16the depth chart. I mean, we I think we've got
- 4:18some confirmed guys at this point, but there are probably
- 4:21about four or five spots on both sides of the ball that are still
- 4:25kind of kind of question marks as far as who's going to be the
- 4:28guy, that's lace them up for the, for the start.
- 4:31Game at least one guy who's definitely are?
- 4:35You got backs? Yeah.
- 4:37What's up? I got code this.
- 4:40So yeah, he's got three months of.
- 4:45Not even have to worry about contact, tracing not have to
- 4:47worry about taking tests, so he's good for three months.
- 4:51So I'm sure that makes him, you know, I'm sure he wasn't
- 4:55pleasant having it if he had the symptoms.
- 4:57But if at this point I'm sure he's glad That portion of it is
- 5:02behind him for now and he can kind of move forward on that.
- 5:07Yeah I mean talking about the Jersey reveal man are you are
- 5:11you still a fan of the stripe? Or we know it's you know boys
- 5:18things where maybe it's just what the age group we came up on
- 5:24Home games should be all Maroon. All Maroon dark shoes it's one
- 5:31of those things where the years we went some of the best years
- 5:36it was it was all Maroon everything and it was
- 5:38intimidating because, you know, a Saturday night and if you come
- 5:43out at all Maroon and it's dark, it's kind of like if I want to
- 5:46go play those guys over there. So, you know, it is what it is.
- 5:52I wish they would just turn it back a little bit, but that's
- 5:55not the era we live in. And now Bryan something you just
- 6:00popped me a few minutes before Diablo fan accounts.
- 6:03Trailer heavy-ass so opens with the Harry Potter cut, then it
- 6:10goes into the Space Jam, Space Jam.
- 6:17It's it's hilarious. The prior video, it's just sound
- 6:22effects in, like, some of the Poppins were pretty funny as
- 6:25well. The Random Oregon softball
- 6:29player. I'm still, let's still try to
- 6:33figure out that one man. Oh, she was trending for a lot
- 6:38of like the tick tocks and stuff.
- 6:39She was doing earlier, so I guess he was like, all right, so
- 6:42she's kind of virally famous. Let's throw in there.
- 6:46Think, I think she threw like or retweet on it.
- 6:48So that's kind of a little bit. She put a she did a quote
- 6:52retweet on it and that way, Diablo's a cow Because this was
- 6:57like a couple hours ago, like after we ate dinner, I was
- 7:01looking at my phone for a second making, some last-second notes
- 7:03for the pot tonight and I'm like, why don't you retweet this
- 7:06so hilarious to see that? And now this was last week, but
- 7:11go from the comedic to the Cinematic.
- 7:14The sons of Saturday trailer, pretty epic.
- 7:18Pretty epic. You say drop the The Dark Knight
- 7:21Rises. Monologue in the background
- 7:25there and some of the score for that movie, along with a lot of
- 7:29really good footage. Yeah, well, Tom cuts and I mean,
- 7:33it was, it was really tight. It was really tight and got me
- 7:37in Bryan's brain rolling over here, not this year obviously,
- 7:41but me and Brian are sitting here after we see the sons of
- 7:44Saturday trailer texting back and forth about 20 minutes this
- 7:47when we could do this. So basically we're already
- 7:50spoiled, we're already writing our trailers.
- 7:53Up for next year. I got to polish up my skills on
- 7:57Premiere before we start. Start dropping trailers.
- 8:00Here is something we got 11 months, you got 11 months so we
- 8:04can work on. We assume we can work on other
- 8:07news, came out, just not too long ago.
- 8:11Pac-12 is returning. Yes.
- 8:16Because after dark pact with actors daylight savings time is
- 8:21already hit because they're not going back until November
- 8:24November 6th. They're going to play seven
- 8:26games and if you look at the Pac-12, they are 14.
- 8:30So it looks like they're going to probably play their own
- 8:32Division and then do have the championship game of the two
- 8:36division winners and then everybody else play each other.
- 8:39To get that seventh game, but one other thing that came out,
- 8:43Brian We're going to extend the bowl streak this year.
- 8:48Hey, everybody gets to go to a bowl.
- 8:53Everybody's in with everybody, which I think is the right thing
- 8:58to do, you know, because of this crazy year and if you have fewer
- 9:03games, you get so many unforeseen circumstances and
- 9:08different conferences playing different number of games.
- 9:11I mean, it just really throws off.
- 9:14Yeah, Competitive balance, about who, you know, even if you like
- 9:17for the most part, I mean the the kind of thing we were going
- 9:21with is, you know, 50% of your schedule could get you into a
- 9:25bowl. So you know it does that mean
- 9:28you know, four wins for the Pac-12?
- 9:31Does that mean five wins for the ACC?
- 9:35I mean, what does that mean? So it's good that they at least
- 9:38took that kind of jostling out of out of play there because I
- 9:42think that was gonna be a clown show if it came down to that,
- 9:45That quails took an easy initiative.
- 9:47Everybody can go to all this year because there's I'm gonna
- 9:50be enough teams. Probably.
- 9:51They said, like the Bulls could start as early as December 1st,
- 9:54but pretty much every conference is playing at least into the
- 9:56first week of December. So I'm not sure what that's
- 9:58going to look like, they don't know.
- 10:01They're just they're lost in the ncaa's lost.
- 10:03So yeah man. See that might apply to some of
- 10:06the G5 schools because I don't their conference games wrap up a
- 10:11little little bit earlier or maybe a couple of them get
- 10:15thrown in there and stuff. So either way, it's kind of of a
- 10:20good decision to make and feeling like this weekend, Brian
- 10:24to, with the SEC beginning and it feels like he is weak and you
- 10:29kind of look through the schedule this week is, we were
- 10:31deciding, you know, we make pics.
- 10:33We're going to make some out of conference picks.
- 10:34It's just fun to do, but it feels like this is your first
- 10:39big. We can you have a couple big top
- 10:4025 matchups. You've got quite a few top, 20
- 10:43teams who were not playing garbage, teams are playing.
- 10:46I actually good competition. So height Height.
- 10:50Unfortunately, I want to probably miss some of the 12.
- 10:53I got 12 baseball practice with the Sun, so and I'm coaching
- 10:58again. So hey, coach Wilson.
- 11:01How you doing, buddy? Thanks Wilson.
- 11:05You know, it's good. It's a lot of fun to get kids
- 11:08out there playing baseball but so I'm going to be missing some
- 11:11games here and there periodically.
- 11:13Hopefully no hokey games but we'll see.
- 11:17Hi, Brian. Let's go man.
- 11:18We got to know our enemy. Me this week, can you take
- 11:24place? The NC State Wolfpack, the wolf
- 11:26pack, ER, 1 and 0 after a win over the Wake, Forest Demon
- 11:30Deacons in a game that me, and you kind of hit on Lil Bit.
- 11:34That game reminded me of a big 12 game, not a typical ACC game.
- 11:38Yeah, it looked like a big 12 game.
- 11:40They were back and forth, you know, early on, it was back and
- 11:44forth in like, kind of in the middle.
- 11:47There were run by NC State and Run by Wake Forest to close the
- 11:51gap and then, you know, kind of closed another back and forth
- 11:55there. So, yeah, definitely, I didn't
- 11:58necessarily see that coming but neither did Vegas, maybe not
- 12:04never under coming. They, they did get the liner.
- 12:07I got to that is a game. You beat me heads-up, on that.
- 12:10We went, we went off against about two and a half I literally
- 12:15lost about half Point. You Want It by half a point so
- 12:18they had that figured out They pick the teams to be very
- 12:21similar but they were like most 55 was the over crab, boat
- 12:26things that was kind of funny to see that.
- 12:30So we're going to do this, we're going to start today.
- 12:32We're going to start with the NC State offense reactions, some
- 12:37things scats. We looked at Brian looked at
- 12:39some of the tape, just to give you guys a quick break down and
- 12:42buy all start out here with the NC State quarterback, Bailey
- 12:46Hockman, the Juco transfer, you know, good.
- 12:50On 16 423 191 yards. One touchdown, one interception,
- 12:56the interception was a pick six thirty yards rushing with the
- 13:01long 14 on a to temps also rushed for a touchdown.
- 13:05A couple things I noticed just watching the game Saturday
- 13:08night. It seems like in the first half
- 13:10he couldn't miss in going back, doing the research and looking
- 13:13yet he started 11 for 11 which is pretty damn good.
- 13:18But he did finish. 5 of 12, including that interception.
- 13:23And that was kind of from the late second quarter on through
- 13:27the end of the game. Now, I know you got some stuff
- 13:31you want to tell them but I'm not just a couple more things
- 13:34about there and I'm going to turn it over to you.
- 13:35Braun over 16 completions seven. Were to is running backs.
- 13:41It seems like you're borderline half of your throws were checked
- 13:44downs. And then another thing, if you
- 13:47take the kind of a couple of the big plays, His average per
- 13:51attempt goes from eight point eight, which is a really good
- 13:54number down to six point eight, which is right at that average
- 13:58to maybe slightly below average, right?
- 14:01The first thing I'll ask you is what's the big difference?
- 14:04You saw between the beginning, where it just, he was on fire
- 14:08and then the second half he's throwing under 50%.
- 14:12He throws a Pick 6, he doesn't seem like something had happened
- 14:17and you know by the end of the second quarter, So two things
- 14:21happened. Number one, they threw fewer
- 14:23screens in the second half. So he wasn't getting some of
- 14:26those easy completions to the running bags, like you were
- 14:28talking about. The second thing that happened
- 14:31is that wake did had a little adjustments at halftime and
- 14:35while they were still able to rush the ball, well, against
- 14:37waking the second half, they were taking away.
- 14:39A lot of those big chunk plays that you saw in the first half
- 14:43in the running game and so that limited what they could do in
- 14:45the play action game. The thing I noticed about
- 14:48Hoffman is that When he was trying to get the ball to his
- 14:51wide receivers a lot of those times went to a tight end or
- 14:54wide receiver. It was coming off of that play
- 14:57action and they were doing a pretty good job, working the
- 15:01ball between the numbers and they were doing, and they were
- 15:04getting the ball between the numbers on that play action, a
- 15:07couple different ways. Sometimes they'd send either the
- 15:10tight end, HVAC or wingback. If it's like a running back,
- 15:14they would send them up the seam, but occasionally, they'd
- 15:16send either a slot or a, or a wide receiver.
- 15:20Unlike a dig behind the linebacker, so they would use
- 15:23the play action to keep the linebackers in the box and then
- 15:25throw over the top Hockman. Did take off a couple times but
- 15:29he's not a guy that's gonna hurt you with his legs.
- 15:33He's not a run first guy, they're not going to design a
- 15:35lot of plays where he is the primary Runner.
- 15:39He's going to be a guy. That's just gonna Play.
- 15:43But breaks down, he can get your first down.
- 15:45He's got a little Twitch. In terms of athletic ability,
- 15:49reminds me a lot of Ryan, Willis kind of in that same vein.
- 15:53Not, not an athlete, not a guy, you really want to be carrying
- 15:57the ball but he's got enough twitch to get you a first down
- 15:59when you need it. But again he was really
- 16:02dependent on the play action to get those things going outside
- 16:05of getting the ball to his running backs.
- 16:06He had a couple really good throws down the sideline though.
- 16:09That shows he's got the arm to make make those throws.
- 16:13But I think he's still working on his timing.
- 16:15And that was evident when you looked at that pick six, he was
- 16:19late throwing the the out and it just got taken to the house.
- 16:23And now unfortunately for us he's got that game under his
- 16:26belt. Obviously opinions to go back,
- 16:29clean up the mistakes, you know, work with your receiver, some
- 16:33more and practice. So that's one of those things
- 16:36that you know, for us it's thinks it's desire first game
- 16:40we're going to be right out where they've got that game too.
- 16:43Got some tape. Yeah, that's helped us in some
- 16:45ways but it's going to hurt us and others.
- 16:47So normal it's let's go to the Run game.
- 16:49What did you see from what they were doing with their backs and
- 16:55the offensive line? So the big thing that they like
- 16:58to do is they like to with their running game, they have are
- 17:03aiming Point that's off tackle and then a lot of cut back Lanes
- 17:07so whether it's inside or outside Zone, they were doing a
- 17:12good job of Of cutting on the on the backside of the play to
- 17:16widen the cutback, angles for the running back.
- 17:19The big thing I saw is that so if you're running left, you got
- 17:23your garden tackle in the back side, they're cutting their men.
- 17:28So now you've got two defensive linemen that are stagnant.
- 17:31And now with the Zone side, you've got a widening of the
- 17:34Gap, so there's a cutback lane but if the Amy if the angle that
- 17:37they're going for is they're they're taking that getting up
- 17:40field but it also because of that wide cut, Back Lane.
- 17:43If the linebackers aren't disciplined and they or they get
- 17:46blocked. There's also a big Ali up the
- 17:48middle. All right.
- 17:49So what I'm hearing is what they're trying to do is they're
- 17:54essentially making you, we need to set the edge, we need to set
- 17:58the edge where we want them to flow back in especially with our
- 18:02linebackers, you know, regardless it.
- 18:06Because if we're setting that edge where they can't get around
- 18:07and they're having to do the big hump.
- 18:11Probably bad things happen, right?
- 18:12And yeah, what we need to move the line of scrimmage, I think
- 18:15in get penetration because right now they were pretty much.
- 18:20Every time I saw them run the ball, they were getting to their
- 18:22aiming point. And once you're there, you have
- 18:25options depending on how how the offensive line is able to block
- 18:28it. But it, because if you're
- 18:29getting two, you're aiming point, you can cut back, you can
- 18:31stay in the alley everything that you want to do, with the
- 18:35play design is still open to you.
- 18:37If you get penetration, you make that running back.
- 18:40Of the hump. Now they're forced into going
- 18:43outside, got it. Did you see?
- 18:47Okay, this is scouting. Another opponent is Wake Forest
- 18:52good on the defensive line or just what you seen in.
- 18:55And I'm not saying talent-wise, but technique while it's because
- 18:57it is wait for us, they aren't good technique wise during a lot
- 19:02of 4 star 5 Star guys on Wake Forest is line.
- 19:06Now, I'd say they're, they're very average.
- 19:08They had some plays where they disrupted, and then they had a
- 19:12lot of plays where they were very dependent on their
- 19:16linebackers making making the place of the linebackers got
- 19:19blocked. They were in trouble.
- 19:21Like I said, that that starts with not being able to get
- 19:23penetration because you've this outside Zone that they ran a
- 19:28lot. They run a lot of outside Zone.
- 19:30They ran a couple plays. So one that I saw film a couple
- 19:35times They did a pin and pull sweet.
- 19:39So place, I'd pins. You got to two guys, pulling
- 19:42around the edge to lead on The Suite so that that can create
- 19:46some problems there. Because with the pin, you
- 19:49usually can stop the penetration and it's all up, you know,
- 19:51whether your league guys can get out there or not, but they also
- 19:56did like a couple times I saw. I think it was Houston lined up
- 20:00in the wing of the kind of the wing H area, and then they would
- 20:03put him in motion for a shovel pass.
- 20:06On the sweep to get outside and neither of neither time, they
- 20:09ran that play. Was there any penetration where
- 20:12he had to run the hump? So he was getting to the edge
- 20:14getting in the alley and then like I said, even if you got
- 20:18guys out there, he's got options at that point because he's
- 20:22already hit his aiming Point Brian.
- 20:25Just kind of looking at it. What you're saying, you know, it
- 20:29reflects in the numbers to me, they didn't have anybody go over
- 20:32100 yards. I mean, but they had two guys at
- 20:34the doorstep. Aw, Ricky person jr.
- 20:37Had 99 is a Zone oven. My head 97 both to highly rated
- 20:43guys. Person was a, you know, a top 50
- 20:46player for star running back out of high school.
- 20:49My it was another four-star guy. So to very, you know, highly
- 20:52talented running backs, there they were and about 49 times,
- 20:57you know, kind of tells you, you kind of take that look at that
- 21:01differential. I mean more than two to one
- 21:04passing and they Five and a half per carry, even adjusting taking
- 21:11long runs out, which is what I do.
- 21:13That's just me there. Still were at four and a half
- 21:16person, but when you look at the to pass who got the bulk of
- 21:18those yards person and might combine 45.8 carry.
- 21:24That's good. That's really good.
- 21:26They were, they were getting chunks.
- 21:27Just watching the tape. They were getting chunks,
- 21:30especially in the first half. A better job in the second half
- 21:34of limiting. The big runs, but they Still
- 21:36productive on most of their carries.
- 21:38And I think that's something that we're going to need to slow
- 21:41down. We need to make them, not only
- 21:45like I said, penetration is going to limit some of their
- 21:47options, but if we're letting them get five or six yards,
- 21:51every care, even if we take away the big plays, that's still
- 21:54going to be a problem. Well, that's that's your, it's
- 21:58not the, the death by one by one slice.
- 22:01It's a death by a Thousand Cuts. Its yeah, a little.
- 22:04So, you know, No. Clearly in the 5.8 brine was
- 22:08taken out there too long runs. So not even that's there.
- 22:12Like I said that's why it's going to be weird to have to be
- 22:15on our point. You know stopping that run
- 22:17because it that everything they do is predicated on getting a
- 22:21good good run on first and second down.
- 22:23Do you guys play action opens up and the the short passing game
- 22:27with the screens and the flare out to the running back.
- 22:30Open up, do you think Do you think we're going to load the
- 22:36Box? Do you think we're going to say
- 22:38we're dropping Divine 10 yards off whoever's paying Rover,
- 22:44boundary safety right on the line of scrimmage.
- 22:47With this goal of, we're going to fill your gaps are ends are
- 22:51going to set the edge. Our guys are going to be in all
- 22:54the right gaps where, if you're going to beat us, you're going
- 22:56to, you're going to screw as you can throw this ball first
- 23:00because I think about this and I know Justin Hamilton is not bad.
- 23:03Foster Tim Beck who is their offensive coordinator comes from
- 23:06the Urban Meyer School in the stuff you're talking about.
- 23:11You go back to stuff, Urban likes to do.
- 23:13We saw what? Stop that back in W.
- 23:16It Smash Mouth spread type philosophy Is Here.
- 23:19Yeah so but we know running, you know, maybe odd fronts, blown
- 23:24the box and saying listen you're not going to beat us as if you
- 23:26beat us this way. You're really going to be
- 23:28grinding hard to beat us. You're going to have to throw
- 23:32the ball downfield and Right now, from what we're seeing,
- 23:36he's got the arm to do it but he did not prove it against white
- 23:39force and his second game came. Bailey Hockman, do that.
- 23:42What we need to do is make them pay for trying to run those
- 23:44outside zones and aiming for that off tackle.
- 23:47Because wake didn't do that consistently enough.
- 23:51They kept going back to it. We need to make them pay with
- 23:54three and four yard loss has consistently.
- 23:57If they're going to keep trying to go outside on us what can we
- 24:00do to do that other than mean, is it?
- 24:02Is it something where you're like?
- 24:03Running running the Chamorro kind of Blitz when they're I
- 24:07mean I think you can do some run blitzes to the to the strong
- 24:10side. I think you can you can do some
- 24:12other things to essentially press the edge where you think
- 24:15they're going with the football and make them have to either.
- 24:19Make that cut sooner or run the hump.
- 24:22Okay. Got it.
- 24:23I mean because the way the ride receivers and tight ends look,
- 24:27you know, you know, I already told you he threw seven balls,
- 24:31two running backs, he only had nine to his tight end or wide
- 24:34receivers, you know, that's again, not a lot.
- 24:38His top receiver had to receptions for 45 yards.
- 24:41That's the tight end. Carry Angeline is a USC transfer
- 24:44from Southern Cal, he's a big guy, 67.
- 24:48Pretty high rate of guy when he came out, but when you start
- 24:51taking a Look at nobody had no water Stever had more than two
- 24:56catches what you're saying? Is in kind of what we're
- 25:01predicating is, if we're going to win this game.
- 25:05We're going to make him throw or attempt to throw more than two
- 25:10times to anyone ride receiver. And we need to make sure that
- 25:15we've got our guys that have a man responsibility on these
- 25:19plays to not have their eyes in the backfield on the play
- 25:24action. Because that's really the thing
- 25:27that in the passing game. That that really hurt wake.
- 25:31They weren't scary. If they were just dropping back
- 25:34in a three or five step drop and slinging it.
- 25:36Yeah. Occasionally if they're running
- 25:38backs broke a tackle or got in space.
- 25:40There's a problem. But They weren't just lining up
- 25:44and throwing the ball down field and getting chunk plays that
- 25:47way. That wasn't what they were
- 25:48doing. Every chunk play they got in the
- 25:51passing game. Pretty much came off of play
- 25:53action either up the seam or on a on a dig behind the
- 25:57linebackers that it kind of got sucked in on the play action.
- 26:01I will I do want to give a shout out because I'm an offensive
- 26:04lineman. So I want to do this.
- 26:06Ekam equiano left guard for NC State.
- 26:11Keep your eye on him. He's a guy that I saw out there
- 26:16like motor for days and was like slinging people around a few
- 26:20times. So he's got to keep an eye on
- 26:23and he wasn't, he wasn't a liability and past Pro either.
- 26:27I think he's a freshman I think is what I saw.
- 26:31So yeah, he's a guy that is going to be someone.
- 26:33You want to keep an eye on for the next few years because he
- 26:37popped out on film. And again, he's got a few years
- 26:41left in the tank there before. Or he's done that in Sea state.
- 26:45So keep an eye on him as a key offensive lineman for that unit.
- 26:51You know that rhyme. All right well let's slip from
- 26:54the NC State offense to the NC State Defense.
- 26:59We're looking at its Tony Gibson.
- 27:01Tony Gibson runs a 335 stack. This isn't the first time that
- 27:05the Hokies have seen Tony Gibson, or his stack defense
- 27:10back in 2017 battle for the Black Diamond trophy against
- 27:14West Virginia. He was the defensive coordinator
- 27:18for that team. Hokies put up Points for 60
- 27:21yards of offense on him to 2:30 2:30 brush.
- 27:26So, very balanced game, but still I look at the statistics
- 27:31from Saturday night against wait.
- 27:32Brian. They had six sacks.
- 27:35That's, that's a lot in any game pick.
- 27:37You told me. We're have six sacks on
- 27:39Saturday. I'd love it.
- 27:41If you have 12 tackles for losses, you telling me 18 plays
- 27:45of usually college football, team runs, you know, right
- 27:47around most on the average about 70 plays a game.
- 27:51No, that's a quarter of your plays where they're getting
- 27:53negative yards. Did, you know, they also
- 27:59recovered a fumble, but they still gave up 39 points, which
- 28:04is, which is a lot because I'm even take.
- 28:08Excuse me. Not 39 point.
- 28:10They gave yeah me too. Yeah, 36 points.
- 28:13Excuse me, I can't do that today.
- 28:16But Brian, when we look at the 33 stack, what what's, what's
- 28:20that? We're going to look for as we're
- 28:23watching the game that. Okay, they're doing this good.
- 28:26This, this is not good for us or they're doing this bad, and this
- 28:30is good for us. So, what they like to do is
- 28:35pretty much kind of a, they're either bringing the house or
- 28:39they're dropping pretty much everybody.
- 28:43There's not a whole lot of in between for them, especially on
- 28:47passing Downs, which explains why they end up getting a lot of
- 28:51sex. So they're either bringing six
- 28:52or bringing three or four. Okay, and they do it sometimes
- 28:58from multiple layers of the defense, sometimes it's just
- 29:02there. Bringing those three linemen and
- 29:04three inside linebackers. It really depends on what
- 29:07they're trying to do, but that's what they like to do, is they
- 29:10bring lit, sometimes it's a little bit of a delay, okay,
- 29:14from the linebackers, so you kind of get the linemen
- 29:16committed and then, sometimes that opens up those pass rush
- 29:19lanes for the linebackers to sneak in.
- 29:22They do some other things with the strong side and weak side
- 29:27safety. So that's essentially the, you
- 29:30got a free safe to your corners and then you've got a strong and
- 29:32weak side safety and the the 335 they'll bring them off.
- 29:38The edge is kind of like a fourth rusher in like a Zone,
- 29:41Blitz scheme and so sometimes you had a completely free
- 29:45Blitzer. Coming off the edge that know
- 29:46Lyman was really accounting for. All right, things a lot of the,
- 29:50a lot of the sacks and And okay, so with the tackles for loss,
- 29:54I'm going to Tribute to that, you know, Wake Forest, slow
- 29:58mesh. That it's either really good.
- 30:01If the linemen get to the different levels, they need to,
- 30:03but it can be a five-yard loss. Because the ball barely gets
- 30:06into the running backs hands before someone's in the
- 30:08backfield all them, right? Yeah, it's true.
- 30:11It's very true. Let me ask this bright.
- 30:12When you look at it especially with their drops, you know,
- 30:17there's the rumor Mills going crazy, whether it be hidden
- 30:20hooker Braxton. In see.
- 30:22Are there drops deep enough on those blitzes, where they don't
- 30:25get home? Are they going to have space?
- 30:27Let's say it's Hendon and he's going back.
- 30:30It's a six-man Blitz but we pick it up.
- 30:31He called protection right. You know big Chris and aerosol
- 30:35lid, took this guy out, you know, Nick gal data and block
- 30:39the other guy and he's got it got it covered good.
- 30:42Is he going to have a run Lane to where we can get
- 30:44significantly positive yards when they can't get home?
- 30:49Yeah, things will open up. They they are bringing the
- 30:53linebackers through different gaps and they're bringing them
- 30:55off the edge or not. It's not just all kind of, it's
- 30:58not all of a pinch move, it's not all coming from the edge,
- 31:01they really mix-and-match. So there's going to be probably
- 31:04a lane in there, some cases, even when they bring five and
- 31:07six and I think with the way they're going when they bring
- 31:13those blitzes, they're either going 0 or cover one across the
- 31:17Board there. So, that's going to open up some
- 31:19opportunities. For our guys, to get either a
- 31:21hot route or something in there where they can get the ball, and
- 31:25then maybe make a guy Miss and get a big play there since
- 31:27they're all in man coverage. I like, I mean Sam Hartman's a
- 31:30good ACC quarterback, but he is not near the athlete.
- 31:33That the three guys we have at quarterback are, and that makes
- 31:36me feel good about that, something else that still
- 31:40concern me brown. But you, but it might have just
- 31:42been wakes offense now that you mention it.
- 31:45Wake only averaged three yards, a carry is a team.
- 31:48That's that's terrible. Even if you took out Hartman's -
- 31:52yard the Saget's in the titles were also on him, they still
- 31:55only average 4.25. Again, that's that's just,
- 31:58that's not good. They did have a lead running
- 32:00back get over 130 yard, Kenneth Walker, did 131 yards.
- 32:04He averaged about four point nine per carry, which is okay,
- 32:08right at that fight with me and you talk about is kind of being
- 32:11the thing. But You know, you talk about
- 32:14them. Blitzing, you talk about them
- 32:16dropping coverage. Like what you're telling me is
- 32:22there's going to be some opportunities to probably create
- 32:24a good running game against what they do because if they're
- 32:29dropping a bunch back and you're running some zones or, you know,
- 32:32options, even the the Jet Sweep going to be space there whether
- 32:39they're dropping a ton of guys or if they're blind.
- 32:44Yeah, I think we're going to end up doing is probably shifting
- 32:50our friends, a little bit on occasion, just to kind of throw
- 32:52off what they're doing in for their alignment and try to work
- 32:56to outflank them pre-snap. So I'm looking for us to try to
- 33:01do that a little bit mess with how they're aligning.
- 33:04Those, there's strong side of weak side safeties.
- 33:08Because those are the guys that are could potentially disrupt
- 33:11any sort of outside of run or Jeff sweet.
- 33:13They'll fly up field and get the penetration.
- 33:16So if we can keep them guessing, they'll have to play a little
- 33:20bit further off the line of scrimmage and give us an
- 33:22opportunity to get to our blocks on them to to get to that edge
- 33:26on the Jet Sweep or some of our Zone plays that we have yeah
- 33:30because if we essentially choose the wrong side, there's going to
- 33:33be no one there and there's opportunity for our, you know,
- 33:37guys like Gallo or James Mitchell or you know, the Lyman
- 33:40to get up field in to get to those safeties and I'm Sure you
- 33:43as an offensive lineman I'm sure they were places where you love.
- 33:46Like I'll get to get up field and find a 180-pound safety.
- 33:49Yes, let me let me have so I can make him not like life of the
- 33:52next 20 seconds and I'll say this too.
- 33:55With the with the three stack. I think we're going to have some
- 33:57success running the ball up the up, the middle of the defense.
- 34:01Okay. Just because with the three-man
- 34:04front and with the experience that I think our interior line
- 34:08is going to have we should be able to at least get get our guy
- 34:12up in Gap and then be able to navigate, hopefully break a
- 34:16tackle, and make make a big run out of it up.
- 34:18The middle one other stat, I hit you with earlier today was NC
- 34:24State, only had four points, two of those four pumps were
- 34:27overturned and the average was 19 yards, a punt along of 26.
- 34:32And then obviously, another one of 12 to make that average come
- 34:35up. And then I'm sitting here
- 34:36thinking about Tavian Robinson, Rahim quite a number of guys.
- 34:43What did you think? When you said you're going to
- 34:44try to find those obviously the guy he keep those balls and deep
- 34:50because I told you, what was it, the 13 was at the 15.
- 34:54What is it is their coverage issues there?
- 34:56Is it one of those, where we have a guy who doesn't know how
- 35:00to kick into the coverage to where his guys were getting
- 35:03there? Because this is, this is one of
- 35:05those things where we could flip the field.
- 35:07Even if we go three and out as good as Oscar is, we can flip
- 35:10the field and pin them the yes. The thing I saw on the only had
- 35:16what, four, punts for pain. Yes.
- 35:18So he had to, that weren't essentially from the 50-yard
- 35:22line or inside, where you were trying to pin a guy deep.
- 35:26So to punt, City actually put a full leg into it.
- 35:30And looking at those on tape, looks like he's a guy that
- 35:34doesn't get a ton of Hang Time on that full foot punt.
- 35:37Okay, so there was the returner has a decent amount of time to
- 35:43You know, get control of the ball.
- 35:45See where the blocks are setting up and then go from there.
- 35:48Okay so you call it out, kick your coverage, whatever you want
- 35:52to do, just not a lot of Hang Time, giving that coverage team
- 35:56an opportunity to get down there and surround the returner before
- 35:58he's able to kind of pinpoint where he wants to go with the
- 36:01with the ball because I see that again, I hear that.
- 36:06And I think about some of our guys were turning the punts.
- 36:11He does that to us, he Could be not only us flipping the field a
- 36:15lot but maybe a house called by somebody.
- 36:18All right, Brian, let's get to our predictions here man.
- 36:22Because usually we're going to go to the Hokey pivotal players
- 36:26next, then our predictions right on me.
- 36:29And you kind of talked about it for our defense, obviously, I
- 36:34think me and you feel probably the most important group this
- 36:37week are the linebackers. Yeah, linebackers are going to
- 36:42be pivotal this week. Week making sure that they get
- 36:44in the right Gap that they're controlling their Gap that
- 36:48they're not over running the outside Zone where you have
- 36:53those cut back lanes because if you do overrun those, there's
- 36:57going to be a lot of feel therefore that running back to
- 37:00do some damage. So that's going to be the key to
- 37:03making sure that we have good Pursuit that we got one
- 37:07linebacker playing kind of just inside the running back, so he
- 37:12doesn't have those. Cut back Lanes.
- 37:13So hopefully they show discipline.
- 37:17But also don't have a problem with getting out there and
- 37:20disrupting some of what they're trying to do, especially when
- 37:22they get like a blitz call too. Take those aiming points away
- 37:27from the running back so they don't really have those as many
- 37:30options to make a play. Yeah.
- 37:33Now, and folks this week, just because of all the chaos, we're
- 37:37not doing specific players because we don't know who's
- 37:42going to be on the field hopefully next week, we can
- 37:44truly have pivot. The players not typical player
- 37:47groups the other one Brian. Just because we're we lost a
- 37:52really good player there. The safety group.
- 37:55I do consider Shamari kind of part of that group.
- 38:00I feel like that's our other really pivotal, you know, group
- 38:03of players, a were younger there, you know, especially
- 38:06with, if you want to Jenkins is the starter.
- 38:09I still think it's going to be Jr.
- 38:10Walker. I'm just saying, I just just
- 38:13feel that way because I feel like Jamari the more you talk
- 38:17about that outside Zone, some of that responsibility for him to
- 38:21set the edge and get there and make that hump that's going to
- 38:24be on him. And tomorrow is that sort of
- 38:27guy, because if it's an outside Zone And Brian you, this is when
- 38:30you blow up an outside Zone, you know this if he gets there and
- 38:33not only sets The Edge but gets further up field and our
- 38:37linebackers stay in those Lanes. What happens again, you're going
- 38:42to get some tackles for loss there.
- 38:44That's what I say. You got to get, we need to make
- 38:46them pay for those outside. Runs we need to get there and if
- 38:51our linebackers is you just said, or staying sound.
- 38:54Staying disciplined. Yep, you can cut it back up
- 38:56here. You're getting the yard run.
- 38:58You're getting a 2-yard run. Because they're right there to
- 39:00meet you in either, you're going to have to Shimmy Shake which
- 39:04regardless who are linebackers are.
- 39:06I don't care if it's Brooke Dax tis, or artist.
- 39:11Those guys. All have significant playing
- 39:13experience, you're not going to do too much and they're all very
- 39:17good tacklers. Yeah.
- 39:18So I like that. Anything else on the safeties?
- 39:21Maybe I missed. I know when we talked about it,
- 39:24you felt like that was the second group of important again.
- 39:27Yeah, I mean it's twofold, you know?
- 39:29You talk about the youth and you talked about how they need to
- 39:32fit up in the running game. So I think having the safeties
- 39:37play well is going to determine one of those determining factors
- 39:40of whether we do well stopping their run because I'm as much as
- 39:45the linebackers need to be key in this, the safeties are going
- 39:49to have to come up and make those opportunities especially
- 39:51when they when you know, for whatever reason, we're not
- 39:54getting to those. Those points in the they do get
- 39:58to the edge. They need to be ready to fill.
- 40:01Ready to make some tackles ready to make some tackles on the
- 40:03cutback. If you're the safety away from
- 40:06the where the balls going, so it's going to be important for
- 40:10them to have a good game, especially if we're rolling out
- 40:13a true freshman at one of those starting positions.
- 40:16Yeah, which that's what the depth chart told us a little bit
- 40:19earlier this week. All right, on the offensive
- 40:22side, Braun. This isn't we didn't specific on
- 40:27one, any group, but just some things.
- 40:29Again, you saw what you're talking about that through.
- 40:31We feel out the Run games important.
- 40:36What do you feel? Is it?
- 40:38Is it line? Is it?
- 40:39Or is it Line running back sweet?
- 40:41Or is it a combination of everything?
- 40:43It's really the combination of everything.
- 40:45Obviously, we need good offensive line, play across the
- 40:47board. So, I mean, that's, it's not a
- 40:50pivotal group that we have on here, but because we're talking
- 40:52about Run game being emphasis. It's of the success.
- 40:56We got to talk about the offensive line because that's
- 40:57where it starts outside of that. You know, we're going to have
- 41:01some opportunities for our running backs, to make some
- 41:04plays because of their feast or famine ability to, if they're,
- 41:10if they're bringing the house and they don't guess, right.
- 41:13We can hit a home run on them. So I'm looking forward to seeing
- 41:17what those running backs can do. I'm looking forward to, I'm
- 41:20going to say a name, we don't know if he's going to be a
- 41:24Table. We do know he's officially
- 41:26cleared by the NCAA now but Blackshear will play a big role
- 41:29in the offensive game plan this week if he is available to play.
- 41:34So I hope that the first touchdown we have is a
- 41:38Blackshear touchdown off the screen or something fun like
- 41:41that. Because you know, your boy here
- 41:43like screens, I know I know Hokie Nation doesn't always like
- 41:46screens because we sometimes run them in inopportune moments.
- 41:50But when it's called right? And it's executed, right, a
- 41:52screen is a thing of beauty. You ladies and gentlemen and
- 41:56honestly God is Man. Alright, last of our pivotal
- 41:59players here pivotal player position, it's the quarterback
- 42:02position and it's for the reason of.
- 42:06We don't know who the quarterback is going to be
- 42:09Saturday. And I know people are like,
- 42:10well, hendon's the one while they put him as one on the depth
- 42:13and the name and starter and we just don't know.
- 42:16And if it's if it's hidden, when we roll out there Saturday I
- 42:21think some of our I think some of our feelings will feel more
- 42:25Comfort henin was six and two last year could have easily been
- 42:31a tan oh but you know whether it be Braxton or Quincy, some we
- 42:36talked about you know all this offseason is the death.
- 42:39We know those guys have played at the D1 level.
- 42:41It's been a while for Braxton. You know, we've seen Quinn seen
- 42:45some situations. But it's it's it's truly one of
- 42:50those things that first snap Saturday night a little after
- 42:568:00 whether me and you were going to be, you know, on Skype
- 43:03while we're doing watching the game or whether we're going to
- 43:04be texting. It's going to say a lot.
- 43:07Yep. And, you know, we talked about
- 43:10the quarterback is the key positions.
- 43:12The key thing to me is going to be not turning the ball over.
- 43:17Cuz I feel like we're going to be able to move the ball against
- 43:21this defense. But regardless the quarterback,
- 43:24regardless of quarterback, we're going to be able to move this
- 43:26ball against this defense. What will potentially hamper?
- 43:32That is turnover. So what we can't do is put the
- 43:36ball in the turf. We can't throw interceptions.
- 43:40I'm hoping that whoever is playing at quarterback when they
- 43:42bring those six-man pressures. We're smart with the throw.
- 43:48We don't just sling it to the guy that we're comfortable with.
- 43:52We try to find the right target or find the hot route for that
- 43:56particular play and get the ball there.
- 43:59Instead of just Chuck it on a wing and a prayer there and you
- 44:02hope something good happens. Let's be smart with the
- 44:05football. Let's not turn it over and I
- 44:07think if we can do that, there's going to be opportunities to hit
- 44:10some big plays on this defense and really put up some points.
- 44:14So I'm expecting some I'm hoping that rust doesn't that
- 44:19interceptions and turnovers. Don't come along with that rust.
- 44:23That will put us in a bad spot. Alright, Braun.
- 44:27Now, let's get to our predictions and these are folks
- 44:33found when you read a rundown wrong Brawn, I'm Gonna Let You
- 44:37Go first, unless you want me to go.
- 44:39We're going to play Paper. I paper rock scissors to decide
- 44:43who goes first, you know, if I'll go first, I don't mind
- 44:46going first here. What would what do you know, who
- 44:52was? I'd say I like us by at least
- 44:55two touchdowns. Okay, not knowing who's going to
- 44:59be suiting up for us. I still like us.
- 45:03Okay, I think it's probably going to be one of those one
- 45:09touchdown games. We might need a score late to
- 45:12kind of put it a little bit Out Of Reach so I'm going to say
- 45:16something like give me 30 124 124, all right.
- 45:23Um yeah if I knew who was playing or if we were full 100%.
- 45:28I'm with you I 14 maybe even 21. Point.
- 45:33I think our, I think our team was that built for this year but
- 45:37with all the questions and we don't know who the quarterback
- 45:40is, we don't know who's healthy on the offensive line, we don't
- 45:42know who's healthy on the defense.
- 45:48He's one of those things man. Where I think we can win this
- 45:52game. Yes.
- 45:55But if we if we're turning the ball over early it's going to
- 45:57BBC last year. Yeah.
- 46:00Clearly aren't. We the Cleo you have more Talent
- 46:03even regardless of a few guys are sitting out.
- 46:05Yeah, please don't excuse. My pick is saying, we're
- 46:09definitely going to win, I don't necessarily think that but I
- 46:13think that as long as the pieces we think are going to be playing
- 46:18or playing that we have enough to get past this team.
- 46:22Yeah I wouldn't we Don't do if we don't execute, we don't do
- 46:26the right things or they come out and play one of the best
- 46:29games that they could possibly play.
- 46:30Then we're still probably in a tough spot here, but I think
- 46:34we've got enough talent and we've got enough talent in our
- 46:37too deep. Yeah.
- 46:39To match up with what they have got it.
- 46:42Alright so my prediction is going to be this.
- 46:44I'm going to go a little higher than what you did.
- 46:48I still think we're going to win this game and I'm going to go
- 46:53Virginia Tech 34 Wake Forest, 30 East 8:30 in the way.
- 47:02I kind of see this game is similar to the last time we play
- 47:05Tony Gibson. I think the defense will come up
- 47:08late when they're forcing Hoffman to have to throw with
- 47:12more than a three-point lead. I think we stopped them.
- 47:16And that's the end of the game. Okay, let's move on.
- 47:22That was hard. It points this week brine.
- 47:25I was like, we're going to lose this game too.
- 47:27We're going to beat them by two touchdowns to where I finally
- 47:30landed, which is somewhere in the middle.
- 47:33When Mike line, let's do a real quick.
- 47:35Quick hit conference reactions to three games last week's of
- 47:40some of our future opponents. Let's start with the Louisville,
- 47:43Miami game. What did you think Saturday
- 47:46night when that game played? Well, I was off.
- 47:53I was a little off with my expectations there.
- 47:54What do you think? You know, you said, I had to go
- 48:01against you man and believe it or not.
- 48:03You want to get some stuff. You talked about the me with the
- 48:05secondary in Miami, and that's kind of what happened, right?
- 48:09Beside a Miami. Although, it's not the elite
- 48:12secondary of the early 2000's or the 1990s.
- 48:16They're still better than Louisville.
- 48:18What Louisville likes to do. Louisville, didn't hit a home
- 48:22run. No they barely got a couple
- 48:24Bubbles and it just pampered them and you could see it me and
- 48:28you were texting us. Like if they can't get a big
- 48:31play they they don't know what to do.
- 48:33Yeah, I mean their ideas is to stretch you out and hit you over
- 48:37the top and if you can't if they can teach you over the top
- 48:39stretching, you out becomes a problem, it does because you
- 48:43ain't worried about you and because you're going, You're
- 48:44Going ladder or you're not gaining forward yardage, you're
- 48:46not getting enough forward. Yardage.
- 48:48Consistently to it. Sustained drives.
- 48:52Exactly. And the other thing that we kind
- 48:54of figured out about Louisville is, well, that defense.
- 48:59It's not much better than last year.
- 49:01Miami essentially, kind of did what they wanted from the
- 49:04beginning to the end of that game.
- 49:07So, Louisville, still have some ways to go.
- 49:09We discussed Miami the previous show and we discuss Louisville
- 49:13as well. I hate to say this, if we go
- 49:15fully healthy into Louisville, I feel better about that.
- 49:19Yeah, I'll say that. I feel better about that game.
- 49:22Seeing what Miami was able to do to them than I did earlier.
- 49:26I feel a little worse about Miami about playing my I don't
- 49:31that significantly worse but I think they're probably, they
- 49:34looked a lot crisper. I know they're playing the
- 49:37caliber of defense was not great.
- 49:39Yeah. But they looked a lot crisper
- 49:41than they did in the first week. Glad we're not playing them this
- 49:45week. Let's just say that.
- 49:47All right up there, buddy. Next will be blessed.
- 49:52Pittsburgh Syracuse. They were green.
- 49:57We both got that right. Danny Green, Danny Green pick.
- 50:01It is who we thought he was. Oh my God.
- 50:04He yeah. And again it makes me feel
- 50:22better about pit. We don't play Syracuse this year
- 50:25would make me feel even better for Blake Syracuse.
- 50:27This year would be like a give me a game but they're going to
- 50:32have to win games like that. They're going to be games where
- 50:35if they don't get to 21 they're going to lose and that defense
- 50:40is good and just he just yeah we comfortable.
- 50:47Covered it wouldn't even question.
- 50:49Like the whole game is just like twenty two and a half points.
- 50:52We got this well they can hear. We still got this score again we
- 50:57got those. All right.
- 50:59All right Brian kind of shocker of the week last week one that
- 51:04again you took the L on. I thought the W BC took do kind
- 51:11of behind the Woodshed that's an understatement.
- 51:17Get me wrong. Like, you know, do they
- 51:19definitely had some turnovers in this game.
- 51:21I mean, you know, which didn't help, you know, Chase Bryce
- 51:25through two pics and, you know, essentially they lose three
- 51:30fumbles as well. So five total turnovers, which
- 51:32usually don't see from David club sports teams.
- 51:35But for BC, they not only with the turnovers, they capitalized
- 51:41on those turnovers. They go out there and screw the
- 51:43pooch on it. They went out there and just put
- 51:45the hammer down which, you know, Connor, you know with with with
- 51:51the new kind of system they would have fully and you defense
- 51:54definitely throwing not throwing the ball more but throwing them
- 51:58all. More downfield and more
- 52:00attacking a kind of shocked. Yeah it feels like they're
- 52:04attacking the whole field. A lot more than they have been
- 52:07in the past. So you know, they're still I
- 52:11think really heavy with the run but the fact that they can
- 52:15really attack you in the passing game at a lot.
- 52:17Of different levels. Now is going to create more
- 52:21opportunities in the running game for them even than they've
- 52:25had in the past. So but obviously Duke didn't do
- 52:28themselves any favors with the turnovers hard to come back from
- 52:31five turnovers. I mean we saw it against BC
- 52:33ourselves last year, when you have five turnovers even if you
- 52:38have more Talent, you're going to be in trouble.
- 52:40And I don't think at this point Duke is significantly more
- 52:43talented than BC and you know, it'll The cases whole units.
- 52:49They're a lot less talented than BC.
- 52:52Yeah. And it showed up on the only
- 52:54game in did. Now, you talked about running
- 52:56the ball, you know, BC ran the ball 41 times, they only got 84
- 53:02yards. To me, that is a bit of a
- 53:04concern. This early that is like two
- 53:06yards a carry, which is something we just unexpected
- 53:09from BC. So even though, you know, jerky
- 53:14which had a great game 300 yards, you know, 13 yards and
- 53:18attempt, which is really good and two touchdowns.
- 53:22If team done, turnover ball five times, can you do that?
- 53:26Can you run the ball 42 yards on average, and still win a game?
- 53:30Don't know. Definitely this weekend.
- 53:33BC Place. Texas State.
- 53:34We're not picking that game. It's not a conference game.
- 53:38But you know, I'm interested to see how that goes because if we
- 53:41see another lesser opponent and they can't muster, I'd say this
- 53:46week. If they don't monster four and a
- 53:47half yards, a carry, then it might get concerning for BC
- 53:51because, you know, And you're still not that good of a team
- 53:55yet and usually you have to depend on something.
- 53:58So can they depend on jerk of the cheese arm all year?
- 54:01I don't think and we'll learn more about them but let's go to
- 54:06Brian. Now let's go to making some
- 54:09pics. Let's do it, do this.
- 54:12Now I'm going to go ahead, throw it out, everybody.
- 54:14Probably already knows. Do Wake Forest Notre Dame?
- 54:18Was canceled for covid reasons. And, you know, I can't leave
- 54:24Notre Dame. Seven players got tested
- 54:28positive. Yeah, yeah, it's like combining
- 54:32that with with contact tracing. They had a pretty good number,
- 54:36especially it key positions that were sitting.
- 54:39So they were going to have a little trouble Fielding a team
- 54:42against against wake this week. And, you know, as we move
- 54:45forward, I'll be, I think we're going to see probably one or two
- 54:48of these a week, especially early in the season until We you
- 54:52know, a lot of these guys end up with the situation like we have
- 54:55with with Dax where he's got three months where or everybody
- 55:00just should have just they should have just like everybody.
- 55:03We're just going to give it to each other, for sure that
- 55:06everybody's going to get a feeling that's what the SEC did
- 55:08like they had like get it now. But do you also the SEC, the
- 55:19majority of their state? Dirt, it's non-existent where
- 55:23they're at. So, do the guys around him have
- 55:28it he ain't goodbye. And that's going to be, that's
- 55:32probably why they're going to get their schedule off in full
- 55:35because the the states that regularly, what they do aren't
- 55:39strict like that, whereas the ACC you started getting into
- 55:43North Carolina. Virginia obviously, New York.
- 55:47It's stricter. So yeah, but let's pick these
- 55:51James Brian. Let's start with this.
- 55:53We get to pick them again. Georgia Tech Syracuse.
- 55:58This will be at Syracuse, Georgia, Tech, laying seven and
- 56:02a half points. Will you feel on this one?
- 56:05Give me GT. All right, Brian.
- 56:08You are laying that seven and a half and another tough one for
- 56:16me. I'm going to go against you
- 56:17though are good. I think seven and a half is not
- 56:23enough points to be laying. I think this is gonna be an ugly
- 56:28game like Florida state, Georgia Tech ugly without a three-hour
- 56:33delay that slowed the momentum of the team down.
- 56:37I'll face. I'll say I think Georgia Tech
- 56:39wins the game but the score is going to be like for think it's
- 56:44tight. One ugly ugly 21:17 some like
- 56:48that. Ugly yeah. 16:7 but she's 16
- 56:53now. Jesus for real quick.
- 57:01The cousins down here. On 64, Juke plays at UVA, UVB?
- 57:07A laying five when you think about this one, Brian.
- 57:11This is the one. I've been going back and forth
- 57:13on for a while now. You know I've been doing the
- 57:18same thing. It, you know, your way in this
- 57:23against UVA has got tape on Duke to prepare versus Duke gets UVA.
- 57:31Fresh, they haven't had a had a game yet, so there's probably
- 57:34gonna be some rust on uva's part, so it's really hard to say
- 57:39which way that's going to go. I'm going to steal, I'm going to
- 57:44go UVA. Okay.
- 57:47All right, so we landed on opposite ends of the spectrum.
- 57:51I don't think of David cutcliffe flame is going to play two
- 57:53horrible games in a row and I think five enough to where I
- 57:58think they get out right when it I think you've EAS defense is
- 58:01probably good enough to hold them tight again.
- 58:04I think another super tight lower scoring game.
- 58:08Something in the neighborhood of like 2017 they probably will win
- 58:14but Duke will cover If Brandon Armstrong makes some of those
- 58:18throws we've seen in his videos, they could lose this game
- 58:21probably by 10 because I think we know he can run a sprint out
- 58:27and throw to the sideline, it doesn't even better when you put
- 58:31a fisheye lens on it. I love it, I love it.
- 58:36All right, let's go next to the Saturday night game, Florida
- 58:41State Miami. It's at Miami.
- 58:42Miami is laying 11 points. Obviously Mike Norvell 8
- 58:49coaching is sweet because he got.
- 58:52He got the wrong, he got the room, I'll let you pick first on
- 58:56this one, all right. I don't think first on this one,
- 58:58I think mine me continues to roll Braun, and it's more of not
- 59:03necessarily not having Not having.
- 59:09Norville there. But with this offense him having
- 59:14a very key hand into it and Miami rolling right now, they're
- 59:19still kind of fixing their defense other than the defensive
- 59:22line at Florida State. I think just 11 is too much.
- 59:25I think you're going to see similar to last week.
- 59:27I probably put probably like 3820.
- 59:33Iyami okay? I just can't see for
- 59:37out-of-state. Keeping up with them by more
- 59:40than two touchdowns. It could prove me wrong and
- 59:42those kids get up for this game. Like it's happened in the past
- 59:45but I can't see that this week. Yeah, I'm actually going to go
- 59:48with you on that one with Miami. I just think it's going to be
- 59:53too much probably for FSU to overcome between Norville being
- 59:57out, playing a quality opponent, playing an opponent that they
- 1:00:01can't come. Push the ball down field with
- 1:00:07both teams have garbage offensive lines.
- 1:00:09But I think without having some of the coaches on the sideline
- 1:00:13that that's going to impact FSU more than it does Miami,
- 1:00:17especially, because a having a guy like Kink and kind of
- 1:00:21overcome some of that. So I'm going to go Miami to
- 1:00:25cover. Got it.
- 1:00:27All right, let's take a quick exit out of conference for a
- 1:00:30couple games here, Brian. And let's go to a couple of the
- 1:00:33big top, 25 matchups. The first one is going to be
- 1:00:36down on the plains, jordan-hare Stadium.
- 1:00:39Number 23, Kentucky takes on. Number 8, Auburn Auburn is
- 1:00:43laying seven and a half points where I'm going to go ahead and
- 1:00:46jump on this one first man. I've got to take Kentucky and
- 1:00:52couple reasons why eight Stoops get the teams to go into.
- 1:00:56Grind Fest, no matter if they're more talented or not.
- 1:01:00You got Scary Terry Wilson back, not Lynn Bowden, talk about him.
- 1:01:04And third thing that happened last year, but Auburn lost a lot
- 1:01:09of their defense to the NFL. And I know they're one of those
- 1:01:12programs that have a lot of talent constantly on the roster.
- 1:01:17But do you know Brian last four meetings for these teams routine
- 1:01:22has one. Okay.
- 1:01:26Give me Kentucky, give me the seven and a half points.
- 1:01:31I think Auburn's gonna win the game.
- 1:01:32I think they're going to snap the street but it's going to be
- 1:01:35like a last second field. Gold.
- 1:01:37Give me in the mid-20s 2421 Auburn, but Kentucky covers.
- 1:01:43Okay, okay. Where'd you go on this one?
- 1:01:50This one. This one was one of the tough
- 1:01:51ones. I was kind of rolling around and
- 1:01:53still not sure where I wanted to go with.
- 1:01:55I'm gonna since I'm undecided, I'm actually going to just go
- 1:01:59ahead and take Auburn just to be different.
- 1:02:02Okay? Yeah, I think both of them are
- 1:02:06going to turn into a little bit of a grind Fest but I'm I'm
- 1:02:09gonna call the the back door. Cover here, back door, cover to
- 1:02:16win. So give me something like Like
- 1:02:20hmm. Give me.
- 1:02:26Was line 7 and a half. Oh no, yeah 2828 back.
- 1:02:33Doors coming open all the time, man.
- 1:02:36All right, let's go to the next cell touchdown.
- 1:02:38Sorry. All right.
- 1:02:56Well, let's go to the other top 25 game this weekend, the Black
- 1:03:00Knights of Army against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
- 1:03:03This game is at Cincinnati. Cincinnati is laying 14 and a
- 1:03:09half. Who you have her on.
- 1:03:18Give me Army in the 14 and a half, and buddy.
- 1:03:23I'm right with you. And you want to know why what
- 1:03:26you got. Home runs a triple option,
- 1:03:28right? Oh yeah.
- 1:03:30There is going to be a limited number of possessions in this
- 1:03:32game. I don't think Cincinnati is
- 1:03:35going to get enough possessions to actually blow them out by
- 1:03:40more than two touchdowns. I think Cincinnati probably wins
- 1:03:43the game but somewhere like 2821 it.
- 1:03:47It's, you know, playing the option teams takes away, so many
- 1:03:51of your possessions because even if they go three and out,
- 1:03:54they're still taking so much time off the clock.
- 1:03:57Yeah, the thing with since he has, since he's going to have to
- 1:03:59be getting points pretty much on every Drive.
- 1:04:02Yeah and up it to cover. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:07I mean the Army's going to probably have three or four long
- 1:04:10drives and two or three more that are longer than Cincinnati
- 1:04:15wants them to be. So I think that's going to be
- 1:04:20problematic for them. And like you said, it's going to
- 1:04:22shorten the game and I think since he still wins out, right?
- 1:04:26But I don't think it's going to be 14 and a half.
- 1:04:30Yeah. And I think that that's going to
- 1:04:33be an entertaining game and I mean, 3:30 slate.
- 1:04:36Some games we didn't use talked about West Virginia, Oklahoma
- 1:04:40State Mississippi State. Unless you even though we're not
- 1:04:43picking it because we in decide on it, giving the sippy stay
- 1:04:46with the points. I don't think LSU with a
- 1:04:49non-hostile Death Valley is going to be able to get 17 on
- 1:04:53leech, Texas, Texas Tech a lot of really good games this
- 1:04:58weekend. Again we said earlier this is
- 1:05:00like the first really full week in week, 12 of you see a AC SEC
- 1:05:06all in play. All right.
- 1:05:07Last pick Brian because this is kind of the big one for the
- 1:05:09conference. High Noon.
- 1:05:10I'm going to miss a good amount of it.
- 1:05:12So I expect you to be giving me. How many times can you take it
- 1:05:15looks terrible. Bill hit, this is at Pitt
- 1:05:21normal, normal conditions, for them, their conditions pit is
- 1:05:25laying two and a half witch. I'm just kind of sitting here
- 1:05:31like, huh? Really?
- 1:05:34What are, you know, for the legal limit,
- 1:05:53Louisville's gonna win the game outright.
- 1:05:56And I think this will be one of those pit games where it gets,
- 1:06:00probably closer to 30 but pick it and going to get to 30.
- 1:06:04Give me 27 2000 available. 27:20 Louisville.
- 1:06:14Okay. Okay man.
- 1:06:20I hate to do it. Okay.
- 1:06:24I'm going to take Pit and the points to cover the three, and
- 1:06:29it was a two and a half, but I have so listen to have to win
- 1:06:34the game. Hey, feel about that?
- 1:06:38It hurts my soul, man. I've picked UVA and pit and
- 1:06:44Miami in the same day and pick em.
- 1:06:48Hey, hey. We're talking about, you know,
- 1:06:51pigs here not. You know, do I like the team or
- 1:06:54not? Yeah, I think at this point
- 1:06:59seeing what happened in Miami? I don't trust that.
- 1:07:01Secondary enough. I'm not saying, Kenny pickings
- 1:07:04gonna go out there and light it up, but I could see it being
- 1:07:07like a 31-28, win by pit. So, you're thinking that it's
- 1:07:13going to take away enough home runs where and, and they might
- 1:07:17end up getting a defensive touchdown.
- 1:07:19Gosh. All right, got it.
- 1:07:21All right, so that's the pics for the week.
- 1:07:23We go. Look back.
- 1:07:24Last week. Brian went 3 and 2 and
- 1:07:29improving. Brian.
- 1:07:30Good for you. I want foreign one so records
- 1:07:33right now, I'm seven. And for Brian is five and six.
- 1:07:36Hopefully Brian, you can get over the 500.
- 1:07:38Hump this weekend and we'll go back.
- 1:07:41Guys, will recap our Virginia Tech, NC State pick.
- 1:07:44Prime's going 3124. I'm going. 3430 both Virginia
- 1:07:49Tech that line. And let's see where it is.
- 1:07:51As of right now, it was seven. I think started eleven and a
- 1:07:57half and if you really want to know how many players are out a
- 1:08:01listen to the pregame show, I'm sure Wes and all the guys will
- 1:08:05be talking about who's on the field, who's not on the field.
- 1:08:08But if you're not near a radio, pick up your phone and whatever
- 1:08:13app you use to see betting lines, if that line is trending
- 1:08:17further down, that means there's probably quite a few players.
- 1:08:20Is that aren't are for Virginia Tech.
- 1:08:22Yeah, I mean if I was baking the line myself based on the
- 1:08:27information I have I put it about four or five and you
- 1:08:31about. Yeah. 4:45 Point.
- 1:08:32Let's meet in the middle. Yeah we'll say four and a half.
- 1:08:34That's I put it at four and a half.
- 1:08:36Yeah. Even though I don't think it's
- 1:08:39going to be a Pick'em but at the same time, I think there's
- 1:08:43enough question marks with probably who we're going to end
- 1:08:46up having on the field to where you don't feel the same
- 1:08:49confidence that you normally. We would all right, Brown, get
- 1:08:53back to our fun in the chest. What you're smoking.
- 1:08:57Free. So I'm going this weekend.
- 1:09:03Some jalapeno, poppers and some smoked case.
- 1:09:06So I'm guessing this is probably has a lot to do with us having a
- 1:09:12night game and you probably going to be antsy so the day.
- 1:09:16Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We got to kind of sit around in
- 1:09:28trying to do something. You know hour or two something I
- 1:09:32can probably even do all my my Weber kettle versus having to
- 1:09:35fire up the Smoky Mountain. Very nice, my friend will Braun.
- 1:09:40I'm going to do one last Twitter check and since we've been on
- 1:09:43the air, the Mountain West Conference is back.
- 1:09:48They will start an eight-game football schedule, starting
- 1:09:50October 24th title game on the 19th.
- 1:09:53No jock there. I think the only one that's not
- 1:09:56back right now is the mac and the rumors are they're Tomorrow
- 1:09:59right. Yeah, rumors are the that will
- 1:10:01get some action tomorrow. Man Maxon, wins the match should
- 1:10:06just be smart, and just say, we're playing every game on
- 1:10:08Wednesday. Yep.
- 1:10:12Every game on Wednesday, give everybody something to do right
- 1:10:15in the middle of the week would get the full Spotlight on them
- 1:10:20about a team there in the midwest.
- 1:10:22Where if they did a six pm kicking and I'm p.m. kick, they
- 1:10:25literally could get ESPNU espnews.
- 1:10:29E into the, I think they have a CVS.
- 1:10:31They literally could have all their games televised at 6:00
- 1:10:33and 9:00 Wednesday night. Yeah, there would be degenerate
- 1:10:36gamblers and people like me. There's nothing else on me.
- 1:10:39Yeah, I'm gonna watch a couple quarters of the olm action and
- 1:10:43let me look here, let me look here.
- 1:10:45We're not seeing most like our game is still on as of 1101.
- 1:10:50Hey hour, and 10 minutes later. So let's cross our fingers for
- 1:10:55the next roughly. Really 2436 hours that
- 1:10:59Everything turns out gravy and we're seeing we're seeing.
- 1:11:03I hope he's play on Saturday night.
