0:26
Speaker 3: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker. Real talk, real experience,
0:30
Speaker 3: real results, Frank Walker Law dot Com. Let that conversation
0:34
Speaker 3: begin on Let's talk.
0:37
Speaker 4: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is curly with let's talk.
0:41
Speaker 4: I have in the building. Hollis Lewis, Hello, Hello, and
0:46
Speaker 4: the football queen Lisa Odie. Hello, and ladies and gentlemen.
0:51
Speaker 4: We have a we have a guest that and I
0:56
Speaker 4: even wrote down some notes. But I'm not even gonna
0:59
Speaker 4: go one know, just because if you don't know this name,
1:06
Speaker 4: Archie Tally, likely.
1:08
Speaker 2: You are too young. That's the only justification.
1:12
Speaker 4: But I will say this, Archie went to Salem College
1:19
Speaker 4: out of Washington, d C. Went to Salem College, was
1:23
Speaker 4: considered or is at that time the best been voted
1:29
Speaker 4: as the best basketball player in college football or basketball
1:36
Speaker 4: in the in the state.
1:38
Speaker 2: Am I correct on that?
1:40
Speaker 5: God? Yes, now I know you're.
1:43
Speaker 2: Not modest on that. Yeah, there's yeah, there's so.
1:47
Speaker 4: I mean, man, when I looked at this, there was
1:51
Speaker 4: so much information on you that it was it was amazing.
1:56
Speaker 4: At Salem, you broke their school record and the wbs
2:01
Speaker 4: I c AC scoring record in nineteen seventy six with
2:06
Speaker 4: forty point eight points a game. Geez, I mean forty,
2:14
Speaker 4: not thirty, not even twenty, but forty. That's that in
2:19
Speaker 4: its own right is an amazing feat. You know, so
2:25
Speaker 4: let me ask let me ask this question. And and
2:27
Speaker 4: you got drafted, and you went to the Knicks, yes,
2:31
Speaker 4: and then and then the Nets, and then you ended
2:34
Speaker 4: up going overseas and you played for how many years there?
2:37
Speaker 5: Ten?
2:38
Speaker 2: Ten?
2:39
Speaker 4: So when you when you look back at your amazing career,
2:47
Speaker 4: and let's just talk about here in West Virginia at Salem,
2:51
Speaker 4: when you came here and you and literally everybody if
2:57
Speaker 4: Salem came to Charleston, everybody Charleston is coming to watch
3:01
Speaker 4: this game because of you. In that time, did you
3:05
Speaker 4: know like that that you were you were the man
3:09
Speaker 4: that everybody wanted to see.
3:11
Speaker 5: No, I did not coming from a city like Washington,
3:16
Speaker 5: d C. It was telling everywhere all the time I
3:19
Speaker 5: mean we played. If you saw a playground. That's when
3:22
Speaker 5: we played on the playgrounds, and the playgrounds were packed,
3:25
Speaker 5: rec centers, everything was packed. We didn't have leagues and
3:28
Speaker 5: all that stuff. You had to pay money to play
3:29
Speaker 5: at them. So everybody, I mean, you name them, we
3:31
Speaker 5: were on the playground, Adrian Danley, you just named the guys.
3:35
Speaker 5: So we we knew we could play, but we did
3:39
Speaker 5: not really know how good we were until we left DC.
3:44
Speaker 5: So when I first came to Salem, my first game,
3:47
Speaker 5: first game as a freshman, I'll never forget this. You remember,
3:51
Speaker 5: this is normal for me to come up and shoot
3:52
Speaker 5: thirty five feet. I mean I just did it in
3:54
Speaker 5: high school, right I take Let me see.
3:56
Speaker 2: And this is before the three point.
3:58
Speaker 5: Yeah, I never got out. Yeah, I've never played with
4:00
Speaker 5: a three pointer. Never, never even over even though in
4:03
Speaker 5: the Pros it came the second year I retired from
4:07
Speaker 5: the Pros. Three pointers, I never played one. So the
4:10
Speaker 5: first game I played as a freshman at Salem, I
4:14
Speaker 5: come up the court and they were playing a two
4:16
Speaker 5: to one two and you know basketball, you know basketball
4:18
Speaker 5: two one two zone. Now, where I'm from and most cities,
4:22
Speaker 5: we don't respect any zone. The zone can't guard a
4:24
Speaker 5: guy that could really not just me, but anybody. You.
4:27
Speaker 5: I've seen you play. No, I've seen you shooting.
4:30
Speaker 2: Now, hey, if you can shoot.
4:33
Speaker 5: My my thing is you can shoot. You can shoot,
4:35
Speaker 5: you know, and if you are prepared to get the
4:39
Speaker 5: ball and shoot it before the defense gets the no
4:41
Speaker 5: zone can guard you. I don't care what what kind
4:43
Speaker 5: of zone it is. And if they passed the ball
4:45
Speaker 5: and move it and all those things. So I could
4:48
Speaker 5: do all of that. So when they were playing a
4:51
Speaker 5: two one two, they were playing all the way back
4:53
Speaker 5: at the inside of the top of the key, and
4:56
Speaker 5: I'm looking. I come up the court at half court.
4:59
Speaker 5: I said, is this candid camera? I said, wait, wait, wait, wait,
5:03
Speaker 5: I said, are they going to play that far back? Yeah,
5:08
Speaker 5: I'm eighteen years old. I didn't know the deal. So
5:11
Speaker 5: I said, okay, so I come with the court. I
5:14
Speaker 5: take literally two steps from the half court line. You know,
5:18
Speaker 5: the circle is right and right there by the circle
5:21
Speaker 5: two and a half I go with. My coach said.
5:23
Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no, no no, no.
5:27
Speaker 5: Good shot. Good shot, good shot. Because he didn't, you know,
5:32
Speaker 5: he's seen me shooting practice. He said, oh my good shot,
5:35
Speaker 5: good shot. So I said, they're going to have to
5:38
Speaker 5: come out of that. So it took him a little
5:40
Speaker 5: while and they came out of it. Now, after that game,
5:45
Speaker 5: as a freshman, I was never guarded by one player.
5:49
Speaker 5: I was never guarded man to man. I was guarded
5:51
Speaker 5: boxing one. You know what about one? Yeah?
5:53
Speaker 2: Yeah?
5:54
Speaker 5: And if you score fifteen points, And just.
5:56
Speaker 4: For those who don't know, boxing one, where you have
5:58
Speaker 4: the four players playings on and then the one player.
6:01
Speaker 5: Guarding me everywhere I go, even in the dormitory, that's
6:05
Speaker 5: what it's. You asked, any score as Stepan carry, Steph Curry,
6:09
Speaker 5: You know, I don't get what era as any score
6:13
Speaker 5: in any time a real boxing one. If you scored fifteen,
6:19
Speaker 5: you're not gonna get twenty. If you score fifteen and
6:21
Speaker 5: eighteen points at a great night, and I was getting fifty.
6:24
Speaker 5: But I didn't know. I was young, never smoked, never drank,
6:28
Speaker 5: never got tired, so I didn't really know how special
6:31
Speaker 5: it was. We beat Fairmont State first time in history,
6:36
Speaker 5: and they closed the school. They closed.
6:39
Speaker 2: Have you ever heard that holiday?
6:41
Speaker 6: They closed the sliday.
6:43
Speaker 5: They closed the university. I didn't. I don't know about rivals.
6:47
Speaker 5: I just know these guys can play, and I'm used
6:48
Speaker 5: to guys that can play. We beat them number one
6:52
Speaker 5: in the nation. At the time, I didn't know that
6:54
Speaker 5: I was just playing against guys that can play. They
6:57
Speaker 5: closed the school. I've never heard that before.
7:00
Speaker 2: They took a holiday after y'all the holiday.
7:02
Speaker 5: But my point when I found out, and I can
7:07
Speaker 5: give you all kinds of examples, but when I found
7:08
Speaker 5: out about West Virginia, what was special about here? The people?
7:14
Speaker 5: The littlest things that you think a little are big
7:17
Speaker 5: to them, and it didn't mean a whole lot. Well,
7:20
Speaker 5: I said, it didn't mean a whole lot because I
7:22
Speaker 5: was I wanted to win all the time. But I
7:25
Speaker 5: saw how special it was to them. That's what got
7:29
Speaker 5: me thinking. I said, wait a minute, you know I
7:33
Speaker 5: got to do this for them. Then it transferred translated
7:37
Speaker 5: to the kids. I'm always kids. Got the only time
7:39
Speaker 5: my coach and I ever gotten not in an argument
7:42
Speaker 5: because we were very close. My coaching I was he
7:44
Speaker 5: was like a father to me. Only time you used
7:46
Speaker 5: to get mad at me was when after the games.
7:48
Speaker 5: I would sign every autograph. And I was the first
7:51
Speaker 5: small college player to have a press conference because so
7:54
Speaker 5: much media was there across the state. And you know,
7:57
Speaker 5: Ohio and Kentucky. I would do every one individually. He said, Archie,
8:01
Speaker 5: you cannot do every one. You can't. And I'm a
8:05
Speaker 5: media guy. You know me. I'm a media guy. So
8:08
Speaker 5: I said, Coach. No, it's two things I am. I'm
8:10
Speaker 5: a media guy. I love the media. I don't know
8:13
Speaker 5: where all these guys get this hate them. I love
8:15
Speaker 5: the media my whole life.
8:17
Speaker 3: D C.
8:19
Speaker 5: And kids. Those are my two pet peas. And I
8:23
Speaker 5: told him, I said, let me tell you something, Coach,
8:25
Speaker 5: I'm gonna do every one of these. If I got
8:28
Speaker 5: to walk back to sell and I'm minute, I'm gonna
8:30
Speaker 5: do that. And kids don't get me started. You know
8:35
Speaker 5: how kids are. They'll never get give me, give me.
8:42
Speaker 5: So I'm signing. I'm signing. And Coach said Archie. You
8:45
Speaker 5: cannot just sign No. Coach said, Archie, just sign your
8:49
Speaker 5: name because you got to get out of here. We
8:52
Speaker 5: got to go back to school. You gotta go to
8:53
Speaker 5: class in the morning, we gotta eat and all that stuff.
8:55
Speaker 5: I said, Coach, I'm not just signing my name. I
8:58
Speaker 5: never signed my name. I used to wait to the kids.
9:00
Speaker 5: It was line man. They had like hundreds of soul
9:02
Speaker 5: kids in line. And I talked to each of them individually,
9:06
Speaker 5: each of them, each of them. They get there and
9:09
Speaker 5: I said, what's your name? Because see with a child.
9:11
Speaker 5: You guys have kids. I don't, but I'm married to
9:14
Speaker 5: what I do. Children. The littlest things to us mean
9:18
Speaker 5: a lot to them. You're famous to them. You're famous
9:22
Speaker 5: to them. You're famous to them, right if you just
9:27
Speaker 5: say their name, they remember that. I got. I got
9:30
Speaker 5: police officers walking up to me and said, Deli, I'm
9:33
Speaker 5: forty eight years old. I remember when you came to
9:35
Speaker 5: my elementary school.
9:36
Speaker 4: I said, what, And I'm one of those kids. I
9:39
Speaker 4: remember you coming to the Boys and Girls Club. You
9:42
Speaker 4: came to the Boys and Girls Club like three or
9:44
Speaker 4: four times. I remember you coming to my school at Glenwood, like,
9:47
Speaker 4: I remember that. And I remember, you know, just with
9:51
Speaker 4: the ball, but he would have the ball.
9:53
Speaker 2: Kids you play? Did you play for Hard and Gold Charters?
9:55
Speaker 5: You know? I was there. I was there, yeah, and
9:58
Speaker 5: got released. But I was at both camps, training camp
10:02
Speaker 5: and veteran camp.
10:03
Speaker 2: Yeah.
10:03
Speaker 4: So I remember they would tell us the stories about
10:05
Speaker 4: your college days, the pros, you know, playing for the nets.
10:08
Speaker 4: That's one I remember specifically in the Harlem Gold trotters,
10:10
Speaker 4: but just doing the tricks, and just like what I
10:13
Speaker 4: remember the most is just the graciousness, like you would
10:16
Speaker 4: like what you're saying is not a lie, because you
10:19
Speaker 4: would sit there, you would talk to us, You could
10:21
Speaker 4: feel the love and the energy. A lot of times
10:23
Speaker 4: people just go in there. They got the obligation, they
10:25
Speaker 4: go in and come out. I remember you would spend
10:27
Speaker 4: the time, particularly at the Boys and Girls Club, just
10:30
Speaker 4: just hollering at us, shooting with us, doing all the
10:31
Speaker 4: little tricks we thought was just like world, you know
10:35
Speaker 4: what I mean.
10:35
Speaker 2: So I appreciate you for that, brother, But.
10:37
Speaker 5: You know, I don't let you said that because every
10:40
Speaker 5: interview I do and I don't degrade guys because we're
10:43
Speaker 5: older now and a lot of guys that we knew
10:46
Speaker 5: of each other, and the guys that were famous before
10:50
Speaker 5: call you and I got in the pros and all that.
10:52
Speaker 2: You know.
10:53
Speaker 5: These guys now we know them. I mean they're older,
10:55
Speaker 5: but it's like a fraternity older and finished with it.
10:58
Speaker 5: And hey, I remember you and this and that and that and that,
11:02
Speaker 5: and a lot of the older guys like Earler Pearl,
11:05
Speaker 5: he's a good guy, good friend. Walt Frazier, I know Kareem.
11:09
Speaker 5: I don't really know him. But my point in saying
11:12
Speaker 5: this is a lot of these guys that were huge,
11:16
Speaker 5: they probably still are. They can't understand why they can't
11:19
Speaker 5: work with kids now because they were this famous person.
11:22
Speaker 5: I said, let me tell you something, guys, I says,
11:25
Speaker 5: one thing I can tell you about. I don't care
11:27
Speaker 5: how big you are. I don't give you in politics.
11:29
Speaker 5: I don't give you the biggest politicians. You could be
11:31
Speaker 5: the president, you could be a movie star, a TV star,
11:35
Speaker 5: an athlete famous. To the people, do not play around
11:40
Speaker 5: with their children, period.
11:42
Speaker 2: And kids remember that period. Remember how you treat.
11:45
Speaker 5: Them, how you treat them. And it's one thing about
11:48
Speaker 5: they all come on art. I'm Kareem. I'm just that.
11:51
Speaker 5: I said, watch, I said, try to do something and
11:54
Speaker 5: fail with their children, they will turn on you know it,
11:58
Speaker 5: turn on you in a heartbeats on. My point to
12:00
Speaker 5: them is is there's something about children that they see
12:09
Speaker 5: in you. Their eyes light up and thinks and you
12:12
Speaker 5: can't explain it. You just have to have it. God
12:14
Speaker 5: give you that.
12:16
Speaker 2: Let me let me jump in real quick.
12:17
Speaker 4: At least I know you got your stuff, and and
12:20
Speaker 4: too and to that man like I don't care like
12:26
Speaker 4: I get I get cards. People will send cards in
12:30
Speaker 4: the mail for me to sign. I signed every single
12:35
Speaker 4: one of them, putting back in the envelope, shipping back
12:37
Speaker 4: out like get a po box so they don't put
12:40
Speaker 4: your home addressed on the internet.
12:42
Speaker 2: Coach to cut.
12:43
Speaker 4: Somebody out, I know that that was a f They
12:49
Speaker 4: already got it. I mean, I sit out and and
12:53
Speaker 4: I'm making the point that you know, for players, athletes,
12:58
Speaker 4: anybody who anybody comes up to you and ask you
13:03
Speaker 4: to sign your name or to to to do anything
13:07
Speaker 4: that is only going to take.
13:08
Speaker 2: A second right.
13:11
Speaker 4: It is worth it for that kid, It is worth
13:15
Speaker 4: it for even that crazy adult male that's dying to
13:21
Speaker 4: get your autograph on something.
13:23
Speaker 2: He'll put it on my shirt. Just put it on
13:25
Speaker 2: my shirt.
13:25
Speaker 4: I'm gonna put it on your shirt because like I
13:29
Speaker 4: can see and I can feel what this is to
13:33
Speaker 4: you and to.
13:34
Speaker 5: Me, I can't say.
13:35
Speaker 2: I can't say no.
13:37
Speaker 4: There's just no place to say no, no matter where
13:40
Speaker 4: you're at exactly, and it's not that big of a deal.
13:42
Speaker 5: I'm glad. I wish we could put that into a
13:44
Speaker 5: quote in a book. You know you can't. I was
13:48
Speaker 5: only guys now again, older man, it's seventies eights. And
13:52
Speaker 5: then they finally understand it. I said, but guys, it's
13:54
Speaker 5: too late now, I mean, this one is never too late.
13:56
Speaker 2: But I mean you've already been judged.
13:58
Speaker 5: You've been judged that person who you.
14:00
Speaker 4: Didn't So I didn't sign for Lisa. And now she's
14:04
Speaker 4: grown up, and she she's not she's not forgetting that.
14:07
Speaker 5: She's gonna remember them. Children remember that, absolutely, they remember it.
14:13
Speaker 5: And and my thing is, guys say, well, Archie, look
14:18
Speaker 5: you've been in You've been in this world of notoriety
14:22
Speaker 5: and all this kind of stuff. I said, Look, they said,
14:26
Speaker 5: but sometime you have a bad day. I said, let
14:28
Speaker 5: me tell you something about having a bad day. We're human.
14:30
Speaker 5: Everyone has a bad day. But you get a lot
14:33
Speaker 5: of benefits for being a professional athlete or in allotmate,
14:36
Speaker 5: a lot of benefits. So if you're having a bad day,
14:39
Speaker 5: stay home. No no, no, no, stay stay home. If
14:44
Speaker 5: you out, suck it up, give a phony smile if
14:48
Speaker 5: you have to. But you signed children. Now, adults may
14:51
Speaker 5: understand I signed everybody. Adults may understand. I don't know.
14:57
Speaker 5: I get upset when they on side adults, But children
14:59
Speaker 5: there's no excuse for that child son of the child's order.
15:02
Speaker 5: Don't get what kind of hurry you in. Stay home, guys.
15:05
Speaker 5: I mean, you get, you get, you get money. I
15:07
Speaker 5: mean when I was coming up in the NBA, can
15:10
Speaker 5: just tell you, because a lot of people said, aren't
15:12
Speaker 5: you why the NBA got so broke? Now, I said
15:15
Speaker 5: that I broke. We didn't make any money so broke.
15:19
Speaker 5: They said, Steph Curry making fifty million a minute. I said, well,
15:24
Speaker 5: you know what we made, And a lot of people
15:25
Speaker 5: look at me and said, oh, my Greece, I didn't
15:27
Speaker 5: know that. You guys made a little more than us. Call.
15:30
Speaker 5: But you know what, my the minimum salary wasn't in
15:32
Speaker 5: bit the minimum, not the average, but the minimum, thirty
15:35
Speaker 5: thousand dollars a year, thirty thousand we made. Well, that's
15:40
Speaker 5: all we made. And when we were get when we
15:43
Speaker 5: when we were getting pre diemed, it was fifty three
15:45
Speaker 5: dollars a day. It was almost more than my father
15:48
Speaker 5: made in the week, and my father worked ten hours
15:49
Speaker 5: a day as a chef. I was looking at that,
15:52
Speaker 5: I said, my gracious, fifty three dollars a day to eat.
15:55
Speaker 5: I was I thought that was my salary and the
15:58
Speaker 5: veterans and veterans were saying, man, we spend that money.
16:00
Speaker 5: We're going to ada age. You need that money. You
16:03
Speaker 5: better spend that money, man. But my point is it
16:05
Speaker 5: was so different, and a lot of guys had a
16:11
Speaker 5: lot of people to take care of. They're not I mean,
16:14
Speaker 5: some people blow that money, but I said, most guys
16:16
Speaker 5: don't blow their money. Most guys don't. You know, guys
16:19
Speaker 5: they taking care of a lot of people that you
16:21
Speaker 5: don't know about. And even the ones that got money
16:25
Speaker 5: are taking care of a lot of people that you
16:27
Speaker 5: have no idea. You paying electric bill, phone bill, you're paying,
16:35
Speaker 5: get that house, you're paying, speeding tickets, you pay, they
16:37
Speaker 5: come to you for every day, Bring grocery, you're paying
16:39
Speaker 5: the mortgages. Banders try to do that for one or
16:41
Speaker 5: two people. Now think you're doing that for ten twelve people.
16:46
Speaker 5: I mean, I know guys that's been doing that for
16:48
Speaker 5: a long time for a lot. So my thing is
16:52
Speaker 5: either a lot of benefits and I'm not complaining at all, man,
16:55
Speaker 5: you have a lot of benefits for being a professional
17:01
Speaker 5: in any field.
17:03
Speaker 6: So I'm just gonna throw this out there now that
17:06
Speaker 6: we're talking about kids and doing you know things for others.
17:09
Speaker 6: Like you're speaking of Archie. You also have a school, correct,
17:12
Speaker 6: that's called the Archie Tally Middle in high school. Yes,
17:15
Speaker 6: which promotes a unique approach to learning. What are some
17:20
Speaker 6: of the positive impacts that you hope to make in
17:22
Speaker 6: your student's lives with this special school?
17:25
Speaker 5: It is I've had a lot of blessings, a lot
17:29
Speaker 5: of blessings. But they came to me. I didn't even
17:33
Speaker 5: know this was like out of the blue. They came
17:35
Speaker 5: to me and said all the work you've done, They
17:37
Speaker 5: meaning the people in Miami, because this is a global thing.
17:41
Speaker 5: And I thought it was going to be a charter school.
17:42
Speaker 5: Nothing wrong with charter schools, but some charter schools are
17:46
Speaker 5: have certain standards.
17:47
Speaker 2: Some don't, right.
17:48
Speaker 5: I Sai's a private school, just like Charga, I mean
17:50
Speaker 5: a private or which you see it. I went in there.
17:54
Speaker 5: I said, I have never been in awe Chandeliers. I said,
17:58
Speaker 5: Shanneliders school.
18:01
Speaker 2: Wow.
18:02
Speaker 5: I said, wow, I'm so happy for our children. But
18:05
Speaker 5: my point is, and I've seen Carl and we seen
18:07
Speaker 5: our name in a lot of different places on it.
18:10
Speaker 5: But when you see your name on the school, it's different. Absolutely,
18:14
Speaker 5: it's different. It's not Archie, tally ballplayers, none of is.
18:19
Speaker 5: None of that. It's like, Wow, you made a difference.
18:23
Speaker 2: Man, that's awesome.
18:25
Speaker 5: You made a difference.
18:25
Speaker 3: Man.
18:26
Speaker 5: I looked at my name in red. I never seen
18:28
Speaker 5: my name in red, and I said red. I said,
18:30
Speaker 5: what are y'all talking about? Red? Man? Sissy color red?
18:36
Speaker 5: And it looked like a tower in New York. I said, well,
18:43
Speaker 5: but that left me real quickly. You know what the
18:45
Speaker 5: first thing I said, I almost had tears in my eyes.
18:49
Speaker 6: I'm sure that's special difference.
18:53
Speaker 5: And the thing I like about us I can take
18:56
Speaker 5: so many things, but I'm not going to get all
18:57
Speaker 5: into But the thing I like. The first thing I
19:00
Speaker 5: asked them, is this an accredited school? Because a lot
19:03
Speaker 5: of schools are not accredited. The degree means nothing. It's oh,
19:06
Speaker 5: trust me, Archie. And to make a long story, sure
19:09
Speaker 5: you know you're in education, but I didn't notice until
19:11
Speaker 5: I'm finding out for my dean. And I'm getting updated
19:14
Speaker 5: on everything. Car and house, every school, middle school, and
19:20
Speaker 5: high school in the United States, all of them. I
19:23
Speaker 5: have a credit accreditation score. It's a score. The highest
19:28
Speaker 5: you can get. The highest is four hundred. That's the
19:32
Speaker 5: highest most people get. One hundred and twenty five, one
19:35
Speaker 5: hundred hundred and twenty five hundred around that you get.
19:38
Speaker 5: The average is one fifty three score the average. That means, man,
19:42
Speaker 5: you're getting it done in your school. That that that
19:44
Speaker 5: covers and they vet everything from the staff to the
19:48
Speaker 5: curriculum to everything. One hundred and fifty three is nice.
19:51
Speaker 5: Guess what our school was? What's it? Three hundred twenty five?
19:55
Speaker 2: That's what's.
19:58
Speaker 5: So it graduation class? So yeah, graduated. So it graduation
20:03
Speaker 5: from last year. I told the students, and I'm gonna
20:04
Speaker 5: say it again. This year can be graduating next next week.
20:07
Speaker 5: I said, let me tell you something. I'm not down
20:10
Speaker 5: in any school. Every school is trying. I'm a teacher's guy.
20:13
Speaker 5: You talk about teachers, you gotta fight me. I'm a
20:16
Speaker 5: teacher's guy. I'm a teacher's guy. Can I say it again?
20:20
Speaker 2: You're speaking to you.
20:23
Speaker 5: I'm a teacher's guy.
20:24
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I have.
20:26
Speaker 5: A whole segment on that in my talk. But when
20:31
Speaker 5: when I see an accreditation like that, I tell the students,
20:35
Speaker 5: I said, let me tell you. Because they looked, I said,
20:37
Speaker 5: tell you something. Your degree means something, I said, and
20:42
Speaker 5: not just high school of college I said, I'm a
20:44
Speaker 5: national speaker. I go everywhere you name it, l A
20:48
Speaker 5: Saint Louis, I said, I go to schools where kids
20:51
Speaker 5: are in tenth grade and they can't read and write.
20:56
Speaker 4: And getting pasted too, and getting past, getting past.
21:00
Speaker 5: So graduation looks great, right, graduation you got the cap
21:03
Speaker 5: and gown. Everybody's crying, he said, you know, oh it's
21:07
Speaker 5: so nice, and the kids get out and that wears
21:10
Speaker 5: off after what two or three weeks, and he can't
21:13
Speaker 5: get a job. I went down to oh what Circus City,
21:18
Speaker 5: one of the places that had the geek squad you
21:20
Speaker 5: ever heard of? Yeah, I've never heard it before, but
21:23
Speaker 5: I was one of the smartest kids I ever seen.
21:25
Speaker 5: He was not a kid then Moore, he's twenty eight.
21:27
Speaker 5: We were talking. This kid is bright, he said, mister Tally.
21:32
Speaker 5: I said, you're very intelligent. He said, yeah, but I
21:35
Speaker 5: can't even write my name. He was showing me how
21:38
Speaker 5: to write this. He couldn't even write his name. It's
21:40
Speaker 5: not your fault, said, this didn't teach you. I said,
21:44
Speaker 5: So my point is a lot of students now are
21:47
Speaker 5: getting empty degree. Let me say it again, empty meaning oh,
21:50
Speaker 5: you're graduating, but you're taking basketball. We even too, you're
21:55
Speaker 5: taking door, not polishing. One class you're taking. You know
21:58
Speaker 5: what I'm saying, I'm being sarcastic. It's a lot. There's
22:03
Speaker 5: a lot of classes. And colleges are like that too.
22:05
Speaker 5: I don't have to tell you a lot of college.
22:07
Speaker 5: And I get upset. I said, wait a minute, now,
22:09
Speaker 5: we're cheating these kids. My dean of students and my
22:17
Speaker 5: advisor top advice, he said, Archie. Because we were almost
22:21
Speaker 5: in tears. Man, because you just can't not do this
22:23
Speaker 5: to these kids. We said, Archie, it's cool. Cool, I said,
22:31
Speaker 5: it's a good word. It's cool to let a kid go.
22:34
Speaker 5: How do you do? How do you get past? When
22:36
Speaker 5: do you learn to read? Second? Third?
22:37
Speaker 2: I don't know first grade in kindergarten?
22:41
Speaker 5: How can you get to sixth grade? But I'll being
22:43
Speaker 5: able to I'm talking about can't read at all. They
22:46
Speaker 5: can't add, subtract, multiply, or divide without using the calculator.
22:50
Speaker 5: Don't misunderstand me. I'm a technologies guy. They can't look
22:56
Speaker 5: up a word the dictionary without googling it. I'm a
22:59
Speaker 5: Google guy. I got four dictionaries in my house. I
23:01
Speaker 5: never use them ever. Ever ever, but I know how to. Yeah,
23:04
Speaker 5: And people say, what's the significant what's the significance in
23:07
Speaker 5: that art? Yes, say, you know what significance is. It
23:10
Speaker 5: teaches kids how to go through a process to get
23:14
Speaker 5: an answer. What does that do? It teaches them how
23:17
Speaker 5: to problem solve. Everything you do in life is problem solving.
23:21
Speaker 5: That's why in most cities twelve thirteen year old, I
23:24
Speaker 5: get calls every day from DC twelve thirteen, twelve thirteen, fourteen,
23:28
Speaker 5: fifteen year old are killing each other. They're killing you
23:31
Speaker 5: and me. They don't care how famous I am. If
23:35
Speaker 5: I come home and I got a car and they
23:36
Speaker 5: got something in it value, but they'll kill me. Why
23:39
Speaker 5: they go from zero to one hundred? They don't know
23:42
Speaker 5: how to problem solve. Now, I'm not saying that you
23:46
Speaker 5: that the all and above is the the or teaching
23:52
Speaker 5: them how to how to manually do math and things,
23:54
Speaker 5: but I think it's very important to teach them how
23:56
Speaker 5: to do some of these things.
23:57
Speaker 2: Process.
23:58
Speaker 5: I just think the thought process. I mean, what do
24:02
Speaker 5: you think?
24:02
Speaker 4: No, I agree one hundred percent, because I think it
24:04
Speaker 4: would you developed those critical thinking skills at an early age,
24:08
Speaker 4: so that way you're able to not only identify problem,
24:11
Speaker 4: you're able to assess it, and then your mind is
24:14
Speaker 4: naturally going to go to solutions, so you'll be able
24:16
Speaker 4: to work out different solutions through hypothesis and different things
24:19
Speaker 4: of that nature without necessarily getting frustrated and then.
24:22
Speaker 2: Kind of giving up on going from that zero to
24:24
Speaker 2: one hundred.
24:25
Speaker 4: But I wanted to ask you, and we're going to
24:28
Speaker 4: get back to the school, but I want to ask
24:30
Speaker 4: just some basket like who would who would Archie talent?
24:34
Speaker 4: Who to give some like some current some presentism. Who
24:39
Speaker 4: would you compare your game? Who did who did Archie
24:41
Speaker 4: Tally play like that? Kids may be familiar with today today,
24:45
Speaker 4: or today or maybe even in the nineties, but just
24:48
Speaker 4: who who will be compared to your game?
24:50
Speaker 5: But you know, it is funny you said that because
24:52
Speaker 5: some of my NBA guys call me Adrian DWN. You
24:54
Speaker 5: heard him, Yes, sir, call me every week, watch game,
24:59
Speaker 5: watch game, Get any baby, I said height, No, I
25:01
Speaker 5: don't watch the NBA. They carry the ball.
25:03
Speaker 2: To oh man, they carry the ball.
25:07
Speaker 5: They take Hey, they were taking three steps, now he's
25:10
Speaker 5: taking four.
25:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, it is I don't know started all of it.
25:14
Speaker 5: They start taking four. They can't shoot. They can't shoot
25:17
Speaker 5: the free throw They shooting fifty eight percent from the
25:20
Speaker 5: free throw line and applaud Yeah, I'm shooting good. I said,
25:23
Speaker 5: you shooting fifty eight percent for the free throw line,
25:25
Speaker 5: you can drop kicking and make more than that. I
25:28
Speaker 5: believe so. So my point is, and don't misunderstanding. These
25:32
Speaker 5: guys are skill. It's lazy. If they're gonna let you
25:34
Speaker 5: get by with three steps, why not take it? I
25:36
Speaker 5: guess might not take it, but it doesn't make the
25:39
Speaker 5: game interesting to me. I haven't watched the NBA game
25:43
Speaker 5: is so long. I try. I said, man, let me go,
25:46
Speaker 5: let me go watch Andy Griffiths.
25:49
Speaker 2: Lisa's pointing at me.
25:51
Speaker 4: You're saying that, you say exactly what I said about football.
25:55
Speaker 2: Like I just can't.
25:57
Speaker 4: I can't look at it because like I don't want
26:00
Speaker 4: to judge the dude that's playing, Like I don't want
26:03
Speaker 4: to act like I'm better than that guy or none
26:05
Speaker 4: of that.
26:06
Speaker 2: But I'm like.
26:07
Speaker 4: Looking at him and I'm trying to figure out he's
26:08
Speaker 4: playing man the Man and he's getting beaten.
26:10
Speaker 2: I'm like, dude, all you got to do is just
26:12
Speaker 2: this this or that and you could cover him.
26:15
Speaker 4: And but let me ask a different question. So what
26:18
Speaker 4: what was For those who don't know, what was your what?
26:21
Speaker 2: What?
26:22
Speaker 4: How would you describe your style of play? Oh, I
26:26
Speaker 4: think that I'm gonna think, say Uniquet.
26:31
Speaker 5: Was. Most guys are either a shooter or a scorer.
26:35
Speaker 5: And if I had to choose to be a shooter
26:37
Speaker 5: and a score, I'll shoot a scorer every time because
26:39
Speaker 5: it doesn't look good. Good example, Charles Barkley. Charles Barkley
26:43
Speaker 5: can't shoot the lick. He could score whenever he wants.
26:46
Speaker 5: If you can get through wherever you want, to get
26:48
Speaker 5: on your sweet spot on the court, no matter how
26:51
Speaker 5: you get there and score, that's a score. It may
26:55
Speaker 5: not look good, but you can do it. But if
26:58
Speaker 5: you're a shooter in your off if you're just a shooter,
27:01
Speaker 5: now I love shooters. Now. If you're just a shooter
27:04
Speaker 5: and you're off, now let me. But if you're both,
27:07
Speaker 5: there's very few guys that are both. I consider myself
27:10
Speaker 5: about Pete marriage. I mean I'm talking about both. Where
27:13
Speaker 5: if you have an off night scoring, I'm an off
27:16
Speaker 5: night shooting. You can see. I scored fifty against Glendadan
27:19
Speaker 5: one time and the coach came up to me and
27:20
Speaker 5: we lost. I said, man, we lose, and coach said,
27:23
Speaker 5: you're a fifty point man. I said, well, we lost,
27:25
Speaker 5: so he said, you score and a shooter. Huh. I said, well,
27:28
Speaker 5: I don't know. I just know we lost. You know,
27:31
Speaker 5: I just know we lost. But my point is, and
27:33
Speaker 5: I learned that from the playgrounds of DC. And I
27:37
Speaker 5: say this all the time on interviews. I said, let
27:39
Speaker 5: me tell y'all something. They said, aren't you how in
27:41
Speaker 5: the world are you going forty? Because my my scoring
27:43
Speaker 5: average goes up every time I meet somebody. Hey, Carlin,
27:48
Speaker 5: out is the best one ever. Carl and I was
27:52
Speaker 5: talking about the other day you walking to the grocery store.
27:55
Speaker 5: I can't even today. Every single day we were just
27:57
Speaker 5: talking about it. Somebody walking to me, Oh, what's the baby,
28:01
Speaker 5: my man? I have no clue it is, but I
28:04
Speaker 5: act like I know how you doing. Man. You remember
28:07
Speaker 5: me arch I'm the guy in the red sweater. In
28:10
Speaker 5: nineteen seventy two. I was sitting in the stands watching you.
28:14
Speaker 5: I saw every game you played, baby, I said, yeah,
28:17
Speaker 5: I said, my man, be five, you know my man?
28:21
Speaker 5: I said, give me five man. I walk away to say,
28:23
Speaker 5: who's else that man? I have no clue is and
28:26
Speaker 5: then I'll get the ones that come up with their buddies.
28:28
Speaker 5: You know, halfway through this head arch, would you please
28:31
Speaker 5: tell this guy we got to stand in bed. Would
28:33
Speaker 5: you tell my buddy here that you averaged seventy five points?
28:37
Speaker 5: Please tell them that, tell them. I said, look, man,
28:40
Speaker 5: I average forty one. No, no, no, see, I saw every
28:42
Speaker 5: game he played.
28:43
Speaker 4: So so you averaged forty one in a season. In
28:46
Speaker 4: the season, yeah, you averaged forty one points in the season,
28:49
Speaker 4: forty one point one.
28:50
Speaker 5: But my junior year, my junior year, I was second
28:53
Speaker 5: number two in the next every thirty five. My sophomore year,
28:57
Speaker 5: I every thirty in my when you have just like
29:00
Speaker 5: twenty three something like that.
29:01
Speaker 2: So you were in twenty three thirty thirty and then forty.
29:05
Speaker 5: Twenty three, thirty thirty five and forty one.
29:08
Speaker 4: God, I'm telling you that. Listen, I'm telling you. When
29:14
Speaker 4: he was here anywhere, if he played anywhere, you see, Yes,
29:19
Speaker 4: everybody is coming. Everybody's coming. Bro I'm sitting up in
29:24
Speaker 4: there waiting waiting to see him. He was by far
29:30
Speaker 4: the biggest draw of a college player football, football, basketball, whatever,
29:40
Speaker 4: whatever it was. He was the draw, and it wasn't
29:44
Speaker 4: and it wasn't even really I don't even think it
29:46
Speaker 4: was necessarily just the sports.
29:48
Speaker 2: I mean just just just the shooting, I mean, the.
29:51
Speaker 4: Ball handling, just the way he would shape people, and
29:56
Speaker 4: I mean it was just like it was just like crazy.
29:58
Speaker 2: And I guess that's kind of my point.
30:00
Speaker 4: And and we've made this point on this show a
30:02
Speaker 4: bunch because I think what happens now is the game
30:07
Speaker 4: and football a little bit, but basketball definitely, and even
30:10
Speaker 4: baseball to a point, it's become so robotic, right because
30:15
Speaker 4: to your point, you grew up playing on the playground,
30:17
Speaker 4: so you had to be fluid, and you had to
30:19
Speaker 4: be natural, and you had to be creative, and you
30:21
Speaker 4: kind of and you had and you had to and
30:24
Speaker 4: you wanted to be yourself, Like I didn't want to
30:26
Speaker 4: be like i might take a couple of his moves,
30:29
Speaker 4: but I'm a develop my own style. And I think
30:32
Speaker 4: sometimes like when we look at sports now, it's just
30:34
Speaker 4: it ain't a lot of style in it. No more
30:36
Speaker 4: does that make it that individual didn't show up? And
30:42
Speaker 4: and I can assure you no matter what game you
30:47
Speaker 4: saw and he was in it, it was different. He
30:51
Speaker 4: was different, Like he was different than anybody else. How
30:54
Speaker 4: would you describe his plans now, just to put it
30:57
Speaker 4: in context, I would probably say he was he was
31:00
Speaker 4: the excellent, excellent shooter. But he also had like the handles,
31:07
Speaker 4: like just handling the ball, just all of those like
31:10
Speaker 4: he was a complete So that's like a steph Curry
31:12
Speaker 4: Alan iverson time, got the shooter, got the ball handler,
31:17
Speaker 4: got it.
31:17
Speaker 5: But you know, but you know a key and Carl
31:20
Speaker 5: doesn't remember it. He told me this, I don't forget anything,
31:26
Speaker 5: and this is the same concept. And he told me this,
31:29
Speaker 5: I don't know how many years ago, and I never
31:31
Speaker 5: forgot this. Carl said. I said, Carl, what happens when
31:38
Speaker 5: the guy talks trash? He said, Chi, I remember this
31:41
Speaker 5: one particular guy. Well, you know a lot of guys
31:43
Speaker 5: talked trash, you know, he said, I remember this one
31:45
Speaker 5: particular guy that he was talking something and he said,
31:50
Speaker 5: you know what, you used reverse psychology because a lot
31:53
Speaker 5: of guys, you know, they get mad. They screamed their
31:55
Speaker 5: curse and all their car said. I didn't say anything.
31:57
Speaker 5: He said, you know what I did. The next ar
32:02
Speaker 5: I caught him at the right time and I almost
32:04
Speaker 5: knocked his head off. Remember that, I almost knocked it,
32:09
Speaker 5: almost knocked his head off. I said, what did you say? Nothing?
32:14
Speaker 5: I said nothing to him. I just walked away. I said,
32:17
Speaker 5: now that's that's that. That reminds me of when people said,
32:21
Speaker 5: how do you have forty one a game? You getting
32:22
Speaker 5: filed every every people talking transt me all the time,
32:25
Speaker 5: or tell her you won't do this, teller, you won't
32:27
Speaker 5: do that. Guys getting in the game guarding me, they
32:30
Speaker 5: want to waste five fouls, so they put five different
32:33
Speaker 5: guys on me just to waste files. So a guy
32:35
Speaker 5: get in the game. He didn't he hasn't played since
32:38
Speaker 5: last Christmas. Yeah, so he gets in the game, you know,
32:43
Speaker 5: all stocking tally. All you can understand him say, I'm
32:50
Speaker 5: looking at him like he's crazy, unbelievable. I'm just looking
32:54
Speaker 5: at him like this. And he comes in the game.
32:56
Speaker 5: I remember he's coming in the game. He hadn't played.
33:00
Speaker 5: He's coming. He's all pumped up steam coming out of
33:02
Speaker 5: his head, Telly. And all I can understand was Tally.
33:05
Speaker 5: He said a little Tally Tally, You're not gonna score me,
33:09
Speaker 5: Tally Tally. And I sit there and I look at
33:12
Speaker 5: the guy and I started whispering to him because the
33:15
Speaker 5: soft of my voice got the madder he got. I said,
33:21
Speaker 5: if you're tally, I said, look, man, what what what
33:24
Speaker 5: would you want? I said, Most of the time, coaches
33:29
Speaker 5: control how long a player plays. I said, I control
33:32
Speaker 5: how long you play this game. And he got mad.
33:37
Speaker 5: He got mad. What you talk? He said, what what?
33:40
Speaker 5: What are you talking about? What about? I said? I said, look,
33:44
Speaker 5: I said, if you just do me a favorite, I said,
33:47
Speaker 5: just just try to guard me. I know, I tell
33:49
Speaker 5: you this, Try to guard me. Do the best you can.
33:52
Speaker 5: Keep your mouth shut. What I'll do, I'll score a
33:55
Speaker 5: bucket here, bucket there, free throw, bank shot. I spread
33:58
Speaker 5: the points out. They don't look as bad. You played
34:00
Speaker 5: the whole game. You talk trash on a couple of
34:02
Speaker 5: three in a row. You're going right back out. He's like, look, no,
34:06
Speaker 5: I come down thirty five feet, boom boom boom. The
34:10
Speaker 5: buzzer goes bob. He's going out. I tapp him. I said,
34:13
Speaker 5: so you could have played longer than that, said, your coach,
34:16
Speaker 5: nor coach, don't control this man. But but I had
34:19
Speaker 5: to learn that because my coach told me. Because I'm
34:21
Speaker 5: from DC, I had a hot head but not hot.
34:24
Speaker 5: My freshman year, I was like, want to fight people.
34:26
Speaker 5: He said, Argie, this guy's gonna be putting up boxes
34:29
Speaker 5: in the grocery store. You're gonna be in the NBA.
34:31
Speaker 5: You got it. The NBA don't know about all this
34:33
Speaker 5: trash doll. They looking at your character. You can't you
34:36
Speaker 5: can't do this, man. You gotta find a way to control.
34:40
Speaker 5: I wasn't angry, but you got to try. Try to
34:42
Speaker 5: find a way to to talk to people and get
34:46
Speaker 5: your point. I said, well, Coach, nobody's gonna talk to
34:48
Speaker 5: me and I'm not gonna say that, and you can
34:49
Speaker 5: say something back. Would just be creative about it. I said, okay,
34:52
Speaker 5: So so what I used to do, Lisa, what I
34:55
Speaker 5: used to do is this is how I scored a
35:01
Speaker 5: lot because when I learned from the playground in d C.
35:05
Speaker 5: I don't know about here, but in DC, when you're
35:07
Speaker 5: coming up, you had great players and if you call
35:11
Speaker 5: the foul, you consider it soft. It was like, yeah,
35:16
Speaker 5: you will consider it soft what you keep calling them.
35:21
Speaker 5: So I never called.
35:22
Speaker 2: The foul, even if it's too much of an argument.
35:28
Speaker 5: But my thing is, if you're not gonna call the ball,
35:31
Speaker 5: you gotta either make it. You gotta make the shot.
35:34
Speaker 5: You can't just because you're gonna hurt your team. So
35:37
Speaker 5: I said to myself, Okay, you got you gotta call
35:39
Speaker 5: it or make it. So I started making it no
35:42
Speaker 5: matter what they did to me. I said, if you
35:44
Speaker 5: don't get my wrist where it goes up here, you
35:47
Speaker 5: can do whatever you want down here and do all
35:49
Speaker 5: this stuff.
35:50
Speaker 2: If you don't get from here, you get that shooting
35:52
Speaker 2: hand from here where it.
35:53
Speaker 5: Ben's is in. And I thought that way, then remember
35:58
Speaker 5: it's sell them my four four. I was fouled every
36:01
Speaker 5: game all the time, but I was still making it
36:04
Speaker 5: because I've the biggest compliment I've ever had in my life.
36:07
Speaker 5: And I've only said this on a few interviews. People said,
36:10
Speaker 5: what's the biggest company in forty one points? All Americans?
36:13
Speaker 5: I said, I love all that stuff. Man, I earned it,
36:15
Speaker 5: I said, but you know the biggest compliment I've had
36:17
Speaker 5: from referees. From referees, referees told me, they said, Archie,
36:22
Speaker 5: you know what I notice about you the most? And
36:24
Speaker 5: you never said anything to the referee. And I said, wow,
36:28
Speaker 5: I didn't, but I didn't notice it because that's how
36:30
Speaker 5: I am. So I was conditioned. My mind was conditioned
36:33
Speaker 5: to score no matter what you did to me, as
36:35
Speaker 5: long as you aren't trying to hurt me. That's different.
36:38
Speaker 5: But guys that can really play card, you know, they're
36:40
Speaker 5: not really trying to hurt you. Hard fouls and hard
36:43
Speaker 5: this and that.
36:45
Speaker 6: Some of that playground that playground ball really toughened you
36:48
Speaker 6: up and taught you to deal with fouls, deal.
36:52
Speaker 5: With everything, deal with everything, deal with adversity. See nowadays
36:56
Speaker 5: kids play in leagues all the time. Nothing wrong with leagues.
37:00
Speaker 5: But I said, I told them some of my friend
37:02
Speaker 5: just let him play.
37:03
Speaker 4: It is something wrong with it. I think at some point,
37:08
Speaker 4: you know, having structures good, you need it, but at
37:11
Speaker 4: some point just go to the park man and figure
37:14
Speaker 4: it out.
37:16
Speaker 2: To be in the middle of all that, yeah, you
37:17
Speaker 2: know what I'm saying, Just let them play, let them go.
37:20
Speaker 5: And when they get in the argument, adults think they
37:22
Speaker 5: gotta come in. Okay, okay, break that. No, no, no no.
37:26
Speaker 5: What we used to do, what we used to do
37:29
Speaker 5: is if you can't, you got guys lined up to play.
37:32
Speaker 5: So if you too are argument about a call, you're
37:34
Speaker 5: holding everyone else up. So you do one of two things.
37:37
Speaker 5: You can get off the court. We you shoot for it.
37:39
Speaker 5: We called a shoot ford meaning you can't decide, you know,
37:42
Speaker 5: shoot ford is top of the key. Hit a miss,
37:45
Speaker 5: you make it your ball? You's a miss.
37:49
Speaker 4: How was the transition coming from d C. Uh it
37:53
Speaker 4: was a very metropolitan area at that time coming to Salem,
37:56
Speaker 4: West Virginia.
37:57
Speaker 2: Like what was the mindset when you were.
38:00
Speaker 5: Like, Man, I got on camp, I got on campus
38:04
Speaker 5: the first day I got there. Uh Uh, I got
38:08
Speaker 5: to school by accident. I'm gonna tell you a short version.
38:13
Speaker 5: We played uh DC. Have you ever heard the matha
38:16
Speaker 5: high school? Okay, the matha MAC. And we had about
38:21
Speaker 5: five high school Every high school was great, but we
38:24
Speaker 5: had about five in the top in the nation. And
38:27
Speaker 5: we had a school called MAC and they were number
38:29
Speaker 5: two in the nation. They were tough. All of them
38:31
Speaker 5: were Division I pros and everything and it came out
38:34
Speaker 5: of school. And now we were tough too, but we
38:35
Speaker 5: were small. But we beat them that game three overtimes.
38:39
Speaker 5: But the collection with West Virginia is the assistant coach
38:42
Speaker 5: from macin in d C was an alumnus of sailing.
38:47
Speaker 5: So small colleges don't have budgets to travel and recruit,
38:52
Speaker 5: so they'll get somebody at a school and boats overhome
38:56
Speaker 5: as a coach. I'm down here watching the game. This guy,
38:58
Speaker 5: you can play what you know, So that's what happened.
39:02
Speaker 5: They were trying to recruit this big guy from Macin
39:04
Speaker 5: who was Division one, but he was gonna do the
39:06
Speaker 5: coach a favor from Salem and said, look, I go
39:08
Speaker 5: down there because you went there, and he said maybe
39:11
Speaker 5: he called a coach of sales. He said, I got
39:13
Speaker 5: my big guy coming down. He's Division one, but if
39:17
Speaker 5: you get him down there, maybe you can talk him
39:18
Speaker 5: into coming. So the whole big things Sellem's all excited.
39:21
Speaker 5: They got the whole town out there with the band
39:23
Speaker 5: playing and everything. He said, Oh, by the way, I'm
39:26
Speaker 5: gonna bring Big Fred down. His name Fred Bailey. I'm
39:29
Speaker 5: I'm gonna bring him down on Saturday. It's the guy
39:32
Speaker 5: from the other team that could play too. Can I
39:34
Speaker 5: bring him? He said, I don't care where you bring,
39:38
Speaker 5: as long as you bring the big guy. Bring Fred.
39:42
Speaker 5: He said, what's the other guy's name anyway, Archie Talley?
39:45
Speaker 5: He said, Tally Wally Bally. I don't care what his
39:47
Speaker 5: name is. Put him in the trunk. Tell Pie I
39:49
Speaker 5: don't care what you do with him. You just make
39:52
Speaker 5: sure you bring big Fred. Fred got sick and didn't
39:55
Speaker 5: show up, but there were no cell phones in those days,
39:57
Speaker 5: so we drove him nine hours in Sellem. Go remember
40:01
Speaker 5: this sell of a small town man. Yeah, and they
40:04
Speaker 5: got and this is a big thing for them to
40:05
Speaker 5: have a six foot nine, crazy King Kong rebounder and
40:10
Speaker 5: great player and coming down. And they said this is great.
40:16
Speaker 5: So the whole schools, the coaching staff, they read carpets out.
40:20
Speaker 5: The band's playing. The band's playing. You don't see the hotel,
40:24
Speaker 5: and they're anticipating this big guy getting out of his car.
40:27
Speaker 5: The car pulls up quiet, quietly, everything stopped there us,
40:32
Speaker 5: oh god, this is gonna be great. They expected the
40:34
Speaker 5: guy not to open the door, but just to bust
40:36
Speaker 5: out of the ceilings, you know, like I can't open
40:40
Speaker 5: the regular growling, growling car growling, so all Lisa's cracking up.
40:50
Speaker 5: So all of a sudden, all of a sudden, so
40:53
Speaker 5: all of a sudden, everything's quiet. Band stops. Everybody then painting, ooh,
41:00
Speaker 5: this is gonna be great. I jumped out of the
41:03
Speaker 5: car and you think I'm small Now I look like
41:06
Speaker 5: I look, I look like et. I had big old eyes.
41:09
Speaker 5: I'm dark skinned, I'm skinny. He said, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
41:14
Speaker 5: where's big Fred?
41:16
Speaker 2: Who's this?
41:19
Speaker 5: Well Fred got sick. We got to reschedule him. Well,
41:21
Speaker 5: who's this? That's Archie talityho. They forgot about me. But
41:26
Speaker 5: at least he said, let me see what you can do.
41:28
Speaker 5: I went out there and played. He stopped it in
41:30
Speaker 5: fifteen minutes, called me over. We drove nine hours. I
41:33
Speaker 5: thought he was gonna cut me. Called me to the side.
41:36
Speaker 5: This happened fifty some years ago. I remember it like
41:39
Speaker 5: it was yesterday. I'm talking to you now. I remember
41:41
Speaker 5: it like it was yesterday. I'm sure it changed my life.
41:44
Speaker 5: That's why I'm in West Virginia now. He called me
41:47
Speaker 5: to the side. I was sweating profusely. I wasn't tired,
41:52
Speaker 5: I was nervous. I was a poor kid. My father
41:56
Speaker 5: died when I was in junior in high school. I
41:59
Speaker 5: couldn't have to go to school. I had to get
42:01
Speaker 5: a scholarship. And I'm like, this guy doesn't want me. Man,
42:04
Speaker 5: So my head is down. Coach is looking at me,
42:06
Speaker 5: and he said something to changed my life. He said
42:07
Speaker 5: argie son, we want you, We really want you. I screamed.
42:12
Speaker 5: I was jumping up in one spot, in one spot.
42:15
Speaker 5: I'll never forget it. He was trying to calm me down,
42:17
Speaker 5: I said, And he was talking about grants. I didn't
42:22
Speaker 5: know what a grant was. Then we give you b
42:24
Speaker 5: EO we call we give you b e O G
42:27
Speaker 5: y EO P. I don't know. I'm sitting there looking
42:29
Speaker 5: at him. I'm sitting there looking at him. I said,
42:31
Speaker 5: excuse me, sir, I do not understand what the meaning
42:34
Speaker 5: of these grants are. I have one question to ask you,
42:39
Speaker 5: and the answer to this question is going to determine
42:42
Speaker 5: whether or not I come to your college. He said,
42:44
Speaker 5: what's that org. Do I have to pay anything to
42:46
Speaker 5: go to college for four years? He said, you do
42:49
Speaker 5: not have to pay one penny. I said, I'll sign.
42:52
Speaker 5: He said no, no, no, he said no, we don't
42:53
Speaker 5: do it that way. We do it honestly.
42:55
Speaker 2: Here.
42:55
Speaker 5: You go home and you talk it over with your mother.
42:58
Speaker 5: I said, she'll sign too. Said I can get some
43:02
Speaker 5: of my boys in the neighborhood and signed that sign. Now,
43:06
Speaker 5: they'll kill me if I come out and on sign
43:07
Speaker 5: this thing. So so so make along say show up.
43:11
Speaker 5: My coach said to me when I got old, He said, Archie,
43:13
Speaker 5: I did not think you were coming. I knew someone
43:15
Speaker 5: made a mistake and a big collage was gonna get
43:18
Speaker 5: you before school started. But he doesn't know me. I'm loyal.
43:22
Speaker 5: He the only one that blieved in me and gave
43:24
Speaker 5: me a chance. So I showed up on the first
43:27
Speaker 5: days ago to scholars this question how did I feel?
43:29
Speaker 5: When I was selling, somebody said, how does it feel
43:32
Speaker 5: to go to a college with all white town? I
43:35
Speaker 5: said it was all white? And he didn't know. Is that?
43:36
Speaker 6: No?
43:36
Speaker 5: I didn't know. Do you just said it? I don't
43:39
Speaker 5: look at color. I didn't even know it was all
43:41
Speaker 5: white until he just said it. He said, really, I said,
43:43
Speaker 5: I'm telling you. I said, well, I showed him the
43:46
Speaker 5: first day on campus. The first day everyone, I'm from
43:49
Speaker 5: the city. The Godfather movie was out. I was dressing
43:53
Speaker 5: like the Godfather. So I showed up on campus with
43:56
Speaker 5: two big steamer trunks, a white suit, a white dirt
44:01
Speaker 5: I'm dark skinned, a white derby, white shirt, red tied,
44:04
Speaker 5: red wet look shoes. Put my uh but I put
44:09
Speaker 5: my things down, I said, coach, on here They said,
44:11
Speaker 5: what we gotta pip on campus.
44:13
Speaker 2: On what's going on?
44:15
Speaker 5: This dude here? It was? This dude showed up. I
44:19
Speaker 5: had a great freshman year, made All American my freshman year,
44:22
Speaker 5: wanted All American teams. But I was asked to transfer
44:25
Speaker 5: to Memphis State. A lot of places, A lot of places,
44:28
Speaker 5: A lot of place. That's my freshman year. Now, they
44:31
Speaker 5: didn't talk to me. They talk to the people on campus.
44:33
Speaker 5: Room we're going around Archie's transferring. Everyone on campus knew
44:36
Speaker 5: I was transferred. But me. I go up to the
44:38
Speaker 5: coach's office. We talked, We spoke every day, and he
44:43
Speaker 5: was almost crying. I said, what's going on? Coach? He
44:45
Speaker 5: thought I knew. I didn't know because they didn't talk
44:48
Speaker 5: to me about transfer. So I go up to his office.
44:51
Speaker 5: This is this is the reason. Excuse me? Can you
44:54
Speaker 5: hear me? This is the reason that I'm in West
44:57
Speaker 5: Virgini to this day. This is right here. I had.
44:59
Speaker 5: I had to all that part to get to this part.
45:02
Speaker 5: This is the part. I used to not be able
45:05
Speaker 5: to get through this without crying. But I'm okay, now
45:07
Speaker 5: I'm serious. I used to. This is how my coach
45:11
Speaker 5: is how much you meant to me and how unique
45:13
Speaker 5: West Virginia people were, not just him, but people here.
45:19
Speaker 5: I got to his office. He thinks I'm transferring. He
45:22
Speaker 5: doesn't know that. I don't know about this rumor. He
45:25
Speaker 5: closes the door. He sends me down, He said, Archie,
45:29
Speaker 5: sit down. I said, oh my, you know what I thought.
45:32
Speaker 5: I thought my mother died? Oh man, I did. Because
45:35
Speaker 5: I had no cloth, I had no clue.
45:37
Speaker 2: What was I know?
45:38
Speaker 5: I thought it was bad news. And on the bad
45:39
Speaker 5: news I could think over when my mother died, I said,
45:41
Speaker 5: oh my gratus man, my father, this that come on,
45:43
Speaker 5: Please don't tell me that. Please don't tell me that.
45:46
Speaker 5: So I'm sitting there, my head down. He said, Archie.
45:49
Speaker 5: Is that what he said to me? Said, Archie. Before
45:53
Speaker 5: you came here to sell them college, I had a
45:56
Speaker 5: long talk with your mother, A long conversation that you
45:59
Speaker 5: know nothing about. And in that conversation with your mother,
46:04
Speaker 5: I promised her that I would make sure that you
46:07
Speaker 5: take the right classes to help you in life to graduate.
46:10
Speaker 5: Let me send it again, the right classes to help
46:12
Speaker 5: you in life to graduate. I didn't take rocket science classes,
46:15
Speaker 5: but I took pretty good classes. I majored in human
46:17
Speaker 5: relations dealing with people with emphasis on kids.
46:20
Speaker 2: It served you well.
46:21
Speaker 5: But I didn't know. I would have majored in the
46:24
Speaker 5: easiest thing possible. I was a kid. I didn't care
46:26
Speaker 5: one of the course. But he said the right classes.
46:29
Speaker 5: He said, Archie, I promise your mother that was gonna
46:33
Speaker 5: make sure you learned how to drive. I couldn't drive
46:35
Speaker 5: because I wouldn't take drivers. In high school. We played
46:38
Speaker 5: basketball in the gym. That's where we took drivers. I
46:40
Speaker 5: would play back, I would I wouldn't take drivers. I'll
46:43
Speaker 5: just h play basketball, so I couldn't drive. He taught
46:46
Speaker 5: me how to drive. He went on and on all
46:48
Speaker 5: these things. He told me that he would promise my mother.
46:51
Speaker 5: And I'm sitting there saying, where's this conversation coming from.
46:55
Speaker 5: I said, He said, Archie, I heard your transferring to
46:57
Speaker 5: Memphis State. I just looked at him as he was talking.
47:01
Speaker 5: I said, this guy really cares about me. Because in
47:04
Speaker 5: that conversation Carl Hollis Lisa. In that conversation, I don't
47:10
Speaker 5: remember verbatim everything he said. I do remember one thing.
47:14
Speaker 5: In that entire conversation, he never mentioned anything about basketball
47:18
Speaker 5: or anything related to basketball one time, not once, not once.
47:23
Speaker 5: Other coaches would be what can we give you. We
47:25
Speaker 5: can give you your mother this, we can fly her here,
47:29
Speaker 5: we can do this and do that. We can give
47:30
Speaker 5: you a little car, we can other coaches, oh yeah.
47:34
Speaker 5: He never said anything about basketball or anything related to basketball.
47:38
Speaker 5: I looked at him and he was choked up. I
47:40
Speaker 5: was choked with as a coach, You're the only one
47:42
Speaker 5: to believe in me. You the only one that gave
47:45
Speaker 5: me a chance. So I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going,
47:50
Speaker 5: I said, in a very diplomatic Knights Wall I'm gonna
47:53
Speaker 5: tell all of them to go jump in the lake.
47:55
Speaker 5: He said, but you can go first round. I said,
47:57
Speaker 5: I don't care about that stuff. That stuff that I
47:59
Speaker 5: tell my students all all the time at our students
48:02
Speaker 5: at our school. I said, you're rich right now. You
48:05
Speaker 5: have things that make you rich now right now. You
48:07
Speaker 5: have your health, education, your family, your higher power. That's
48:11
Speaker 5: just for things that money can't buy. It makes you rich.
48:14
Speaker 5: And I've always thought that way. I said, you can't
48:17
Speaker 5: buy me when it comes to certain things. I never
48:19
Speaker 5: had a lot of money. I could because I was
48:23
Speaker 5: rated as one of the top motivatual speakers for decades.
48:26
Speaker 5: But but Wiseer wanted to sponsor me. I said, y'all
48:29
Speaker 5: must be crazy. You said, I'm going to school and
48:32
Speaker 5: talk about all these family things and I'm responsored about Budweiser. Yeah,
48:36
Speaker 5: and if Philip Marrish wants to sponsor me years ago,
48:39
Speaker 5: I said, y'all must be crazy. He said, artuially, everyone
48:42
Speaker 5: has a price. I said, I don't, and I don't
48:45
Speaker 5: huge and I don't. I never told a lot of
48:48
Speaker 5: people that, but I don't. And I'm not saying they
48:51
Speaker 5: offer me millions, but they offered me pretty good money
48:53
Speaker 5: that have made me. Okay all I had to dude
48:55
Speaker 5: get on the plane to speak, but I said, I
48:57
Speaker 5: will never ever let a tobacco come or alcohol company
49:01
Speaker 5: sponsored me, and never ever. Those kids mean too much
49:04
Speaker 5: to me, and I mean too much to them, and
49:06
Speaker 5: people like me. You mean too much of them. Carl
49:09
Speaker 5: Hollis you you on TV man, I see you all
49:12
Speaker 5: the time. I saw I saw Lisa. I was just
49:17
Speaker 5: telling her. I said, you know, I'm out. I'm gone
49:20
Speaker 5: a lot, but I do catch some of the promos.
49:22
Speaker 5: And I saw the promo. Was it a commercial? I
49:25
Speaker 5: love that commercial. That's the best commercial I've seen on TV. None, No, No,
49:32
Speaker 5: that's the that's the that's one of the best commercials
49:34
Speaker 5: I've seen on TV. Lisa's commercial is great. I said,
49:37
Speaker 5: I didn't know. I said that's a great commercial. I said, wow,
49:41
Speaker 5: that's great. But my point is, you know, there's there's
49:46
Speaker 5: certain things, man, that happened in this state that that
49:53
Speaker 5: you never forget. And that's why I'm still here. Because
49:56
Speaker 5: they don't name schools after you because you play basketball.
50:01
Speaker 5: They don't name schools after you because you played basketball. Now,
50:04
Speaker 5: don't misunderstand me. Basketball introduced me to the state, Carl.
50:08
Speaker 5: There's millions of guys that great basketball players. They don't
50:11
Speaker 5: name schools after guys because they played basketball. That school
50:15
Speaker 5: is named after me because of the difference I've made
50:19
Speaker 5: decades and the kind of not just the difference, the
50:23
Speaker 5: kind of difference. And you don't know that until I
50:26
Speaker 5: get hundreds of thousand letters. I mean over over, what
50:29
Speaker 5: I've been doing is forty five years or more of kids, administrators, parents,
50:38
Speaker 5: you name, sponsors saying hey, I remember what you said
50:42
Speaker 5: about this and this and that and that and this.
50:45
Speaker 5: There's some things money can't buy that makes you one
50:50
Speaker 5: hundred percent.
50:51
Speaker 4: I was I was reading a stat and they had
50:53
Speaker 4: a stat because you know, with college athletics now, the
50:56
Speaker 4: transfer rule and everything like that, they had a stat
50:59
Speaker 4: that said, like sixty I believe it's like sixty some
51:02
Speaker 4: percent of Division two football players who enter the transfer
51:06
Speaker 4: pool end up retiring because they can't find the next step.
51:12
Speaker 4: A sixty or forty something like that. But my point
51:14
Speaker 4: is to say, like sometimes I think it's such a
51:16
Speaker 4: lost art when we talk about small college athletics because
51:21
Speaker 4: it can lead to so much. If you have that
51:25
Speaker 4: home base, if you have that stability, if you have
51:28
Speaker 4: those relationships that you're able to cultivate there, you can
51:32
Speaker 4: to your point, you can have that wealth and that
51:34
Speaker 4: richness for your life because you always have that home base.
51:38
Speaker 5: You know.
51:38
Speaker 4: I think about like, you know, you at Marshall, you
51:40
Speaker 4: would sale Mia State, you know, playing athletics there was
51:44
Speaker 4: a part of it, but the relationships and the community
51:47
Speaker 4: that was developed because of it is the key and
51:50
Speaker 4: we'll always be able to like go back to that,
51:53
Speaker 4: you know. So I think I just don't and you know,
51:57
Speaker 4: kids out there, anybody listening, sometimes there is value and
52:01
Speaker 4: just staying where you're at.
52:02
Speaker 2: Amen.
52:03
Speaker 5: Yes, And you know you know it's something and I
52:06
Speaker 5: know we run out of time, but it's something that
52:09
Speaker 5: and this, this is just something that reminds me of
52:12
Speaker 5: the the whole demeanor of West Virginia people. I said,
52:16
Speaker 5: every every person in every state with human beings. You
52:20
Speaker 5: got certain things that you that you do or don't do,
52:23
Speaker 5: or personalities and things and that. I said, But years ago,
52:28
Speaker 5: see rich Rich Rodriguez, I know very well. I'm seeing
52:32
Speaker 5: him in a while, but I know him very well
52:33
Speaker 5: when all that stuff happened. I don't get into all
52:36
Speaker 5: that stuff. I said, let me tell you something right now.
52:38
Speaker 5: Because they were really mad at him.
52:43
Speaker 2: That's an easy way to put.
52:50
Speaker 5: But people people looked at me like I was crazy.
52:52
Speaker 5: I said, let me tell you something now. I'm not
52:54
Speaker 5: from here, and you guys can say I'm wrong. I've
52:57
Speaker 5: been here long enough to know the feeling of the
52:59
Speaker 5: people here. It's different from everywhere else. And then I've
53:03
Speaker 5: been to places where that kind I've never been to
53:06
Speaker 5: place like this before. I said, now, hold on to
53:10
Speaker 5: your seats now, and they said, oh, he never gonna
53:12
Speaker 5: forgive him. No, I said, watch, I said, only here,
53:18
Speaker 5: he said, oh, trust me. On Drudge, I had camps
53:22
Speaker 5: I'll give you my car. I'm gonna go down there
53:24
Speaker 5: and get his car. I said, I'm gonna tell you something,
53:28
Speaker 5: West Virginia people are different. Man. They may still be
53:32
Speaker 5: mad at you, but your still family. You're still family.
53:37
Speaker 5: And I knew they were forgiven. I didn't know what
53:39
Speaker 5: it was going to be. I didn't know people are
53:42
Speaker 5: still mad.
53:43
Speaker 2: I might have lost my crawn that one too.
53:47
Speaker 5: You know, people people, A lot of people didn't. But
53:50
Speaker 5: then people forget they were mad. But they But but
53:54
Speaker 5: my point is, wha can that happen other than here?
53:57
Speaker 5: And I'm talking about emphatically. People like you, Man, you're
54:00
Speaker 5: not from it. I said, no, I'm not from here.
54:03
Speaker 5: But it's a feeling and get people here and it's
54:05
Speaker 5: it's just different. I said. It may take them longer
54:08
Speaker 5: to forgive forgive you, but they'll forgive you.
54:12
Speaker 4: And I'm gonna I'm gonna say this. I'm going to
54:17
Speaker 4: throw this name in the hat because I think this
54:20
Speaker 4: is blown over. I think the whole Randy Moss dislike
54:24
Speaker 4: or whatever those feelings were, I think those are done.
54:28
Speaker 2: I think I think I think we we love him.
54:31
Speaker 2: I mean he gotta come.
54:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's it's him not knowing that. Everybody
54:37
Speaker 4: else is kind of like, look, we're done with it, man,
54:41
Speaker 4: just come on home.
54:42
Speaker 6: You know, I'm going to interrupt this whole conversation and
54:45
Speaker 6: say this because i know we're almost out of time
54:47
Speaker 6: and I've got all these questions, but you have to
54:50
Speaker 6: come back and never ever make a long story short.
54:54
Speaker 6: Always make your long stories while you are a true storyteller.
54:58
Speaker 6: And I'm sitting here just entranced by you, so thank
55:02
Speaker 6: you for coming on.
55:03
Speaker 2: And we like the information you're you're the guy. You're
55:07
Speaker 2: on the show to put out the information. We don't
55:10
Speaker 2: have no information.
55:11
Speaker 4: And one part of this, and I'll let you at
55:14
Speaker 4: one point, I'll let you close this out. But one
55:15
Speaker 4: part of this is to make sure that we encapsulate
55:18
Speaker 4: and tell the stories of our legends. We want to
55:21
Speaker 4: make sure that legends throughout West Virginia, big, small college, whatever,
55:25
Speaker 4: that if you made an impact on the community through
55:27
Speaker 4: sports and otherwise, we want to we want to have
55:30
Speaker 4: that story here.
55:31
Speaker 2: This is the home for that.
55:31
Speaker 5: I appreciate it, Lisa, because I know we didn't get
55:35
Speaker 5: your questions in you no.
55:37
Speaker 2: No, you basically did. I'm just you know, I've been
55:41
Speaker 2: that's her normal. Yeah, organized, I.
55:45
Speaker 6: Have enjoyed like I am just like you are a
55:47
Speaker 6: great motivational speaker. I can see where people and kids
55:50
Speaker 6: respond the way they do to you, because.
55:53
Speaker 5: Well, what I was going to ask you is, is
55:55
Speaker 5: I like your good voice.
55:58
Speaker 2: Don't get that because I'm going to fire.
55:59
Speaker 5: The good voice for TV, TV and radio. You got
56:03
Speaker 5: a good voice. I don't know how some some podcasts
56:09
Speaker 5: can go over a little bit. Do you have anything?
56:11
Speaker 5: Can you go? Can't you ask me one of these things?
56:14
Speaker 3: What?
56:14
Speaker 2: Yahay?
56:15
Speaker 6: Oh, gosh, thank you. I just had the one question
56:19
Speaker 6: that was the most important to me. It was more
56:21
Speaker 6: about your speaking because I've just thoroughly enjoyed this. But
56:24
Speaker 6: in your presentations you discussed the ingredients of life. Yes, yes,
56:29
Speaker 6: and you know what are the top ingredients you believe
56:32
Speaker 6: that the youth of today need to be successful.
56:35
Speaker 5: There's quite a few, but I stick with three or
56:39
Speaker 5: four they can remember. There's too many that won't remember. Determination,
56:45
Speaker 5: hard work, sacrifice, confidence, determination, hard work, sacrifice, confidence, believe
56:52
Speaker 5: in yourself. I tell kids all the time, you don't
56:54
Speaker 5: need everybody to believe in you. And I separate the
56:57
Speaker 5: girls and the boys in my talk. I said, look,
57:00
Speaker 5: there's nothing wrong with you thinking the way you think
57:03
Speaker 5: because you're a female and girls communicate different than guys.
57:07
Speaker 5: Don't apologize for that. That's what I supposed to be.
57:10
Speaker 5: But don't think your little girlfriend needs to believe in
57:12
Speaker 5: you for you to make it. I said, if she
57:15
Speaker 5: believes in you, fine, but she don't need to believe
57:17
Speaker 5: in you. And guys don't think you boys, the fellas,
57:20
Speaker 5: the guys need to believe in you. It's great as
57:22
Speaker 5: they do. But if you believe in yourself, then you'll
57:26
Speaker 5: make it. And I give them reasons why and all
57:29
Speaker 5: that later on the determination you stay determined and focused
57:33
Speaker 5: on your goals and you make sure you make it happen,
57:37
Speaker 5: just like I'm going to say next week in our graduation.
57:41
Speaker 5: I mean, I'm gonna say a few things because you
57:43
Speaker 5: don't talk long in the graduations, but i'm gonna say,
57:45
Speaker 5: you know, you know, people don't want you to do.
57:47
Speaker 5: But I'm gonna say, look, and I encourage all kids
57:53
Speaker 5: to well graduate because I spoken a lot of graduations.
57:56
Speaker 5: Said when you graduate, kids think that's it. They graduate,
58:00
Speaker 5: they're happy, they go home, and they sit there for
58:03
Speaker 5: six months. I said, look, when you graduate, enjoy it.
58:05
Speaker 5: I don't know how long your enjoying period is. But
58:07
Speaker 5: you get out here, you network. You get out here
58:10
Speaker 5: and you network. And they said, what's network? I said,
58:13
Speaker 5: networking is people that you know. They said, well, don't
58:15
Speaker 5: know anybody?
58:16
Speaker 2: Do you know me?
58:17
Speaker 5: You know Hollers, you know, call you know? I said,
58:19
Speaker 5: your parents know people that they probably don't even think
58:21
Speaker 5: they know your parents. No, people didn't went to school
58:23
Speaker 5: with your parents. May one of your parents may have
58:25
Speaker 5: gone to school with Mark Zuckerberg. You don't know, and
58:28
Speaker 5: they don't know. But seriously, I know people that said,
58:31
Speaker 5: you know, what is that little markus Zuckerberg? I said,
58:34
Speaker 5: you gotta ask, You gotta you gotta talk, You gotta ask.
58:37
Speaker 5: You can't sit around and wait for success to come
58:40
Speaker 5: to you. Yes, you gotta make it happen. Make success happen.
58:45
Speaker 5: And hard hard work. Work is hard, it takes for
58:50
Speaker 5: you to make it. And the last one, that's the
58:53
Speaker 5: big one, Yeah, where take care of your bodies on
58:57
Speaker 5: a junk. Don't put in your bodies, give yourself a chance.
59:00
Speaker 5: And I was telling my friends, we're older now. They said, yeah,
59:02
Speaker 5: but all your there was somebody passed passed alone to
59:05
Speaker 5: my buddies. Yeah, we must not be doing something right.
59:07
Speaker 5: I said, you can do everything right and still pass.
59:10
Speaker 5: I said, people people die every day, healthy people. I said,
59:14
Speaker 5: some things you can't control. All you do is try
59:17
Speaker 5: to give yourself a chance. I said. I said, God
59:20
Speaker 5: can take me any day. Now, I don't want to
59:22
Speaker 5: go anywhere. You can take me any day, but I'm
59:25
Speaker 5: not gonna give me any help. I'm not gonna give
59:29
Speaker 5: me any help.
59:32
Speaker 2: I love that.
59:33
Speaker 5: So sacrifice, do you know. Take care of your bodies,
59:38
Speaker 5: Enjoy the people in your life, Enjoy people that's not
59:41
Speaker 5: in your life. And life's too short to be mad
59:46
Speaker 5: all the time, you know what I mean. People mad,
59:50
Speaker 5: and I don't.
59:52
Speaker 6: Understand that, especially on the internet.
59:55
Speaker 2: That's the worst place for it.
59:57
Speaker 5: I know we have to go, but I really appreciate
1:00:00
Speaker 5: being here. You know. I do a lot of these
1:00:03
Speaker 5: these these deals, and it's very unique when you can
1:00:06
Speaker 5: have two three people and it seems like you're just
1:00:10
Speaker 5: talking to family.
1:00:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, we appreciate it.
1:00:16
Speaker 5: And that's that's the unique. That's unique.
1:00:17
Speaker 4: Call.
1:00:18
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's unique.
1:00:19
Speaker 2: Oh, we appreciate it.
1:00:20
Speaker 4: That's we try to make it feel like home anyways,
1:00:24
Speaker 4: So we appreciate you coming man, and uh, we're probably
1:00:28
Speaker 4: just a little bit over, but get out of here
1:00:30
Speaker 4: because it was worth it though, thank you so much.
1:00:36
Speaker 4: All Right, ladies and gentlemen, we're gonna get out of here.
1:00:39
Speaker 4: We'll get with you next week.
