- 0:32Speaker 2: Thank you, and welcome back to another episode of the
- 0:35Speaker 2: Mixed Company Podcast. Of course, my name is Jamison Welsh.
- 0:38Speaker 2: As always, I'm with my Coe's the classy alcoholic classy.
- 0:42Speaker 2: What's going on? Uh?
- 0:44Speaker 3: You know, Jamison, I'll be honest, I'm a bit bummed
- 0:46Speaker 3: out right now because of this new story that came
- 0:48Speaker 3: out over the weekend. Normally talking about boxing is a
- 0:51Speaker 3: lot of fun on the show. There's nothing fun about
- 0:54Speaker 3: the story we're about to get into. Turns out, the
- 0:56Speaker 3: two Japanese boxers died after fighting in the same event
- 0:59Speaker 3: in Tokyo weekend. The first is shiget Toshi Katari. He
- 1:03Speaker 3: collapsed after the end of his twelve round fight. He
- 1:06Speaker 3: had to have emergency surgery for a subdural hematoma but
- 1:08Speaker 3: didn't recover, and the next day after that, Hirosa Urkawa
- 1:13Speaker 3: died from the same injury, and both guys were only
- 1:15Speaker 3: twenty eight years old, which is really really tragic. You know,
- 1:18Speaker 3: the cliche phrase that used a lot is you don't
- 1:21Speaker 3: play boxing, and while that's true, we can't forget what
- 1:24Speaker 3: it actually means is that boxing is a dangerous and
- 1:27Speaker 3: potentially deadly sport. These fighters are literally taking their lives
- 1:31Speaker 3: into their hands when they get into the ring, and
- 1:33Speaker 3: I'm not exaggerating or being dramatic about that, and the
- 1:36Speaker 3: depths of these two fighters showed that. So it's really tragic.
- 1:40Speaker 3: That's why I personally push back so often on boxing
- 1:43Speaker 3: fans with their little instagrament grand comments and Twitter fingers
- 1:46Speaker 3: colin fighters bums saying a boxer only fights nobody. You know,
- 1:50Speaker 3: this is what's really on the line, where when y'all
- 1:52Speaker 3: are making these comments, these guys's lives. So I just
- 1:55Speaker 3: want to get your your thoughts on the situation.
- 1:58Speaker 2: It's definitely unfortunate. It is a constant reminder that you
- 2:01Speaker 2: can die in the ring. It's a constant reminder that
- 2:03Speaker 2: this is not a safe sport. It's a sport. It's
- 2:07Speaker 2: a combat sport where you can literally die in the ring,
- 2:11Speaker 2: like die, like literally die there's a situation where we
- 2:16Speaker 2: think that, oh, they're just fighting in the ring, that's boxing.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Oh they're just we don't see a lot of brawls anymore,
- 2:21Speaker 2: so it doesn't it's not the front of your mind
- 2:25Speaker 2: when that happens. But we know that man boxing is
- 2:28Speaker 2: boxing man, and it's one of those things where, for
- 2:32Speaker 2: whatever reason, if the somebody is not healthy going into it,
- 2:35Speaker 2: somebody takes a bad hit in the middle of a fight,
- 2:38Speaker 2: et cetera, et cetera, it can be very bad. It
- 2:41Speaker 2: can be a very very bad situation. But with that
- 2:44Speaker 2: being said, definitely condolences to those gentlemen who did pass unfortunately.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I do think we do take a lot of precautionary
- 2:53Speaker 2: measures in the States when it comes to boxing. Very
- 2:57Speaker 2: rarely is there any funny play or any foul play
- 3:01Speaker 2: like that here. I think our refs are probably overly
- 3:05Speaker 2: cautious when it comes to stoppages and warnings and signs
- 3:09Speaker 2: and whatnot, which is a good thing, but just in general,
- 3:13Speaker 2: it is a constant reminded that hey, you can die
- 3:15Speaker 2: in that ring.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Another thing I always really don't like is when a
- 3:22Speaker 3: ref stops a fight and you got the fancy bad stuffage.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Let him keep going, Let him keep going. You know,
- 3:27Speaker 3: I don't know, man, You're not in there, You're not
- 3:30Speaker 3: seeing you know, it's very different watching a guy getting
- 3:33Speaker 3: beat up on TV than it is being you know,
- 3:35Speaker 3: right in front of you. And in these cases, most
- 3:38Speaker 3: of the time I am going to defer to refs.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Sometimes I'll say, well, maybe he could have gone, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 3: finished the round or something like that. But very rarely,
- 3:45Speaker 3: you know, I don't I don't know enough to say
- 3:47Speaker 3: that with confidence ever.
- 3:50Speaker 2: That. But also, here's the thing. We're mature. All of
- 3:53Speaker 2: people are not mature. So at people just want to
- 3:55Speaker 2: see blood, someone die, get hurt. We are mature. We
- 3:58Speaker 2: are people who are in life. We understand how life works.
- 4:03Speaker 2: You have families, So for us, we don't want to
- 4:05Speaker 2: see somebody you fight to the death. We want to
- 4:06Speaker 2: see a good, clean fight and people make home to
- 4:09Speaker 2: their families. Some people don't care about any of that.
- 4:11Speaker 2: They just want to see somebody die or somebody gets
- 4:13Speaker 2: seriously hurt. And I'm not really here for that.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Sure. Yeah, when when we talk about, well this fight
- 4:17Speaker 3: was kind of boring, I don't enough punches were thrown.
- 4:19Speaker 3: We want to see you know, exciting fights, that's what
- 4:22Speaker 3: the sport is about. But this sport is never going
- 4:25Speaker 3: to be better if more athletes are not even just dying,
- 4:28Speaker 3: but like getting seriously injured, you know, having their livelihoods,
- 4:33Speaker 3: you know, ruined because of a fight Like that's not
- 4:35Speaker 3: what makes the sport more exciting or more fun. So
- 4:39Speaker 3: a little bit more notes on this situation. The Japanese
- 4:42Speaker 3: Boxing Commission announced that this was the Oriental and Pacific
- 4:45Speaker 3: Boxing Federation. They said their title BBOTS will now be
- 4:48Speaker 3: ten rounds out of twelve. The exact reason why boxing
- 4:51Speaker 3: went from fifteen rounds to twelve in the eighties was because,
- 4:55Speaker 3: you know, a fighter died and a fighter named dub
- 4:58Speaker 3: kuk Kim, and you know that was a very clear
- 5:03Speaker 3: response to that tragedy. So the reports of Japanese media
- 5:07Speaker 3: are also talking about dehydration as a concern. When newspaper
- 5:10Speaker 3: said dehydration makes the brain more susceptible to bleeding, quote,
- 5:14Speaker 3: that sounds right to me. I'm not a doctor. I'm
- 5:16Speaker 3: a dumb dum who barely graduated college with a political
- 5:19Speaker 3: science degree. But I've also brought up personally on this
- 5:22Speaker 3: show how I think I don't like how fighters put
- 5:26Speaker 3: themselves in potentially dangerous or situations to make weight for
- 5:31Speaker 3: a fight in a way that affects their health, especially
- 5:35Speaker 3: because if you're struggling as a fighter to make that
- 5:38Speaker 3: weight and your you know, health is in jeopardy, you're
- 5:42Speaker 3: not going to fight it that weight anyway. You're going
- 5:44Speaker 3: to rehydrate afterwards. So, like, I don't know, maybe there's
- 5:47Speaker 3: something that could be done that says if have fight
- 5:51Speaker 3: closer to the weight that you're actually working ticket down on.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Not the cutting in itself.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Is bad, I don't know, and the supplements guys take
- 5:59Speaker 2: to cut weight, the things are putting in their body
- 6:02Speaker 2: to cut weight. Most of the fights take place when
- 6:04Speaker 2: it's tight outside. It's just a very bad mixture, like
- 6:07Speaker 2: you know what I mean. That's why I do give
- 6:08Speaker 2: credit to guys who are constantly in shape, who don't
- 6:12Speaker 2: have to do anything drastic a week before the fight
- 6:14Speaker 2: or day before the fight, because they put with your
- 6:16Speaker 2: body at risk and all your other organs at risk.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Absolutely, I don't know enough about this to really speak
- 6:23Speaker 3: on you know, what it takes to to cut weight
- 6:26Speaker 3: to get in fighting shape at all. But there are
- 6:29Speaker 3: guys that are just you know, like you said, really
- 6:30Speaker 3: in shape, really checked and ready and able to take
- 6:33Speaker 3: a fight. Don't drop ten pounds on top of that. Again,
- 6:37Speaker 3: it's my opinion, but you know that's just me as
- 6:39Speaker 3: a late person and just thinking about the health of
- 6:42Speaker 3: the athletes. You know, at the end of the day,
- 6:45Speaker 3: I would never call myself like a libertarian because I
- 6:47Speaker 3: think that ideology is kind of stupid, that kind of
- 6:50Speaker 3: fits very But I personally don't think that many things
- 6:53Speaker 3: should be banned or criminalized. You know, a lot of
- 6:56Speaker 3: things can have adverse effects. Drinking alcohol is perfectly legal,
- 6:59Speaker 3: and it has the ability to ruin your life. I
- 7:01Speaker 3: am the perfect, perfect example of that. People have gambling
- 7:04Speaker 3: additions that ruin their lives. I still don't think gambling
- 7:06Speaker 3: should be made legal at all. You know, I think
- 7:08Speaker 3: Boston should be made as safe as possible. But at
- 7:10Speaker 3: the end of the day, you can't totally remove the
- 7:13Speaker 3: danger from some activities. No matter how safe you try
- 7:17Speaker 3: to make skydiving, you're still jumping out of a damn airplane.
- 7:20Speaker 3: So what I really believe and what I call them
- 7:22Speaker 3: like my personal philosophy is that people should have as
- 7:25Speaker 3: much information as possible in order to make a decision
- 7:28Speaker 3: for themselves, even if it's a bad one. We have
- 7:30Speaker 3: the right to make bad decisions, but we got to
- 7:33Speaker 3: be honest and upfront and say this could potentially happen,
- 7:36Speaker 3: this is a risky sport activity, et cetera. And you know,
- 7:41Speaker 3: if you decide to go for it, by a condios.
- 7:45Speaker 3: But that's that's kind of where I land with those
- 7:48Speaker 3: kinds of things.
- 7:50Speaker 2: That and also, you don't want any negativity going towards
- 7:55Speaker 2: the sport, you know what I mean, if someone passes
- 7:57Speaker 2: or those health issues or story issues, it's not good
- 8:00Speaker 2: for the sport. And this is not good for the sport,
- 8:02Speaker 2: even though obviously it didn't happen in America, but it's
- 8:06Speaker 2: still not good. It's not a great thing. It's not
- 8:09Speaker 2: necessarily a black eye. It's just never good when somebody
- 8:11Speaker 2: gets killed in the line of the sport.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that the most evil thing is you
- 8:20Speaker 3: can kind of suppress information like the NFL trying to
- 8:23Speaker 3: downplay or you know, suppress information on CTE. I think,
- 8:27Speaker 3: and I know it's not good, like you said, for
- 8:29Speaker 3: the sport, but I would always rather say here, say
- 8:35Speaker 3: you can do this, you can achieve, you know, make
- 8:37Speaker 3: money off of this the NFL or boxing achieve greatness
- 8:39Speaker 3: POSA or you could be seriously injured for the rest
- 8:41Speaker 3: of your life, and just put that out there. Let's
- 8:43Speaker 3: just be more open, you know. I I know that's
- 8:46Speaker 3: never going to happen. I just feel that that's kind
- 8:48Speaker 3: of the the ideal way to make decisions in life, right,
- 8:55Speaker 3: But yeah, can Nolan's just to both of these fighters
- 8:58Speaker 3: and to their families. You know, it's a it's a
- 9:00Speaker 3: terrible situation, but I just wanted to get out there
- 9:03Speaker 3: up front and just remind everybody, you know, these boxers
- 9:07Speaker 3: are real people. They're not just you know, faces on
- 9:10Speaker 3: an Instagram. And yes, we talk a lot about guys
- 9:13Speaker 3: who've had dozens of fights, twenty fights, thirty fights, you know,
- 9:16Speaker 3: their legends. They make a lot of money, the biggest
- 9:18Speaker 3: names out there, but there's a lot of people out
- 9:21Speaker 3: there that don't make it and are still putting their
- 9:24Speaker 3: lives at risk every time they get into the ring.
- 9:25Speaker 3: So let's remember that when we talk about the sport.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Moving on to our next story, Dmitri bevol is recovering
- 9:33Speaker 3: from back surgery for the next six to eight weeks
- 9:36Speaker 3: and will not be returning to the ring in twenty
- 9:38Speaker 3: twenty five, so no Better be Of trilogy this year. Also,
- 9:42Speaker 3: kind of the worst thing is poor David Benevitez, That
- 9:47Speaker 3: poor bastard, he keeps getting denied an opportunity. He wanted
- 9:50Speaker 3: to fight the winner of Bevoll Better be of Turkey.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Alahik said that he'd be willing to do it, then
- 9:57Speaker 3: backed out, got duck by Canelo, got duck by bevol
- 10:01Speaker 3: I don't know, I just kind of feeling bad for
- 10:04Speaker 3: the guy. You know, he's a great fighter. He deserves,
- 10:06Speaker 3: you know, more chances than he's gotten, and he's just
- 10:09Speaker 3: been getting kind of screwed. There is talk of a
- 10:12Speaker 3: possible Better be Of versus Benavitez, which is something that
- 10:15Speaker 3: my my drug cask is going to have trouble slurring
- 10:18Speaker 3: through that for the next year, Better be Of versus
- 10:20Speaker 3: bena Vetez matchup. Both of them are going to fight
- 10:23Speaker 3: and be odd this November twenty second that card is
- 10:27Speaker 3: actually will have him du La Mason, Ben Rodriguez and
- 10:29Speaker 3: Devin Haney. You're my legitimate vary on that one. But yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 3: I don't know what do we think about what do
- 10:34Speaker 3: we think really at the end of the day, the
- 10:35Speaker 3: question is Benavitez's situation here, because he's the one I
- 10:38Speaker 3: feel most for.
- 10:39Speaker 2: He's in a rough spot because guy wants to fight
- 10:42Speaker 2: won't fight him. You know, the second next challenger as issues.
- 10:48Speaker 2: So it's just weird. It's a weird situation, like it
- 10:50Speaker 2: sucks because in boxing, the long you wait, the worst
- 10:52Speaker 2: things get, you know what I mean. And that's the
- 10:54Speaker 2: thing about boxing is like, you know, you kind of
- 10:57Speaker 2: have to strike with I on top, because when it's not,
- 11:00Speaker 2: you're in trouble. Why you're in a lot of trouble.
- 11:02Speaker 2: So I really don't know what he basically asked to fight,
- 11:06Speaker 2: stay active while avoid getting knocked out or knocked down
- 11:10Speaker 2: or any trouble. Because here's the thing too, when you wait,
- 11:13Speaker 2: you better win. If you wait and lose, it's all over.
- 11:16Speaker 2: So those are things that's very tricky about boxing. That's
- 11:19Speaker 2: why boxing is very fascinating.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Yeah, but if it is a talented enough guy that
- 11:24Speaker 3: I think, if he's gonna fight, he always has a
- 11:27Speaker 3: very very good chance to win. So I'm not as
- 11:30Speaker 3: worried about him taking a fight and then getting humiliated,
- 11:33Speaker 3: knocked out or a lot. Of course, it can always happen.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But I'm you know, I would always put my chips
- 11:37Speaker 3: on him. But the question is how many fights could
- 11:42Speaker 3: he take before people are just like, oh yeah, that
- 11:44Speaker 3: guy that Canela never fought. You know, it's does this
- 11:47Speaker 3: guy get a fade away without really you know, getting
- 11:49Speaker 3: his fast shot.
- 11:51Speaker 2: So it depends because it depends how it's marketing. Because
- 11:55Speaker 2: the fights are marketed and people are watching, you're fine.
- 11:58Speaker 2: The issue is you gotta have people watching a fight
- 12:00Speaker 2: in having a demand for him to fight. It's biggest thing.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Because what happens when there's a fight goes on but
- 12:05Speaker 2: does not all TV can't find it knowing will be
- 12:07Speaker 2: talking about it. That's when it gets spooky. But if
- 12:11Speaker 2: he's fighting and he's on a co headline with someone
- 12:13Speaker 2: else that's pretty popular, he'll be fine. As long as
- 12:15Speaker 2: he's a your The main thing is winning. That's the
- 12:17Speaker 2: first thing. Whatever fight you're in, you gotta win. Secondly,
- 12:21Speaker 2: your win has to be talked about. And as long
- 12:24Speaker 2: as those two things happen, everything else usually takes care
- 12:26Speaker 2: of himself.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I think better Beef still has some cachet.
- 12:32Speaker 3: You know, he he won the first be Ble fight,
- 12:35Speaker 3: lost a second, so it's not like this man is lost,
- 12:37Speaker 3: you know, fight fights in a row. Plus he's got
- 12:39Speaker 3: a great legacy. He is an excellent fighter. It took
- 12:42Speaker 3: a lot, it took a long time for somebody to
- 12:44Speaker 3: take him down. So I think that matchup will still
- 12:47Speaker 3: be good. I don't know how much more better Bev
- 12:49Speaker 3: has left in him, just in terms of you know,
- 12:52Speaker 3: age and thinking about retirement. Not that he's not even
- 12:55Speaker 3: saying that he's lost a step, but you know, you
- 12:56Speaker 3: can't do this forever. Better being is I think he's
- 12:59Speaker 3: still got some guess in the tank.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I have been on record as saying that I wanted
- 13:04Speaker 3: a Bevill Better be Of trilogy first and then having
- 13:09Speaker 3: Benavidez get a shot at the winner. But at this point, man,
- 13:12Speaker 3: I don't think. I don't think Benavidez should should keep
- 13:15Speaker 3: waiting for this for this trilogy. But I don't know
- 13:18Speaker 3: Bevill still he's still the big name, whether he's going
- 13:21Speaker 3: to be out for a few weeks, Like he got
- 13:23Speaker 3: went into surgery a star and he didn't you know,
- 13:26Speaker 3: he didn't get it was nothing that he did something
- 13:30Speaker 3: stupid or you know, got himself, you know, injured. I
- 13:33Speaker 3: don't know partying and get drunk and falling off of
- 13:35Speaker 3: a balcony or whatever. It's just an ongoing back issue.
- 13:39Speaker 3: So I don't see Beevil's kind of stock crashing. When
- 13:44Speaker 3: he comes back in twenty six, I think it'll be
- 13:46Speaker 3: a welcome return for him. But man, I just feel,
- 13:50Speaker 3: like I said, I feel that that Benavidez just keeps
- 13:52Speaker 3: losing his his opportunity to strike it really big. So
- 13:57Speaker 3: and you know we talked about before about him waiting
- 14:00Speaker 3: out of Canelo pay Day. Him fighting Beebel is not
- 14:03Speaker 3: gonna be a light back, Like I said, the man
- 14:05Speaker 3: is a start like he's if he really wants to to,
- 14:09Speaker 3: you know, make a make a good return, save up
- 14:13Speaker 3: enough money an esteg a Beevil fight would absolutely be
- 14:16Speaker 3: worth it.
- 14:17Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 14:18Speaker 3: It's a big question mark right now as to as
- 14:20Speaker 3: to what's gonna happen for twenty six, but really also
- 14:24Speaker 3: the for the rest of twenty five. You know, the
- 14:27Speaker 3: biggest name in boxing names in boxing, or Canela Crawford.
- 14:30Speaker 3: So I don't even know what's gonna happen after September
- 14:33Speaker 3: and what we have to look forward to, because that's
- 14:35Speaker 3: taking the oxygen out of the.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Route So here's the thing. If that fight is any
- 14:40Speaker 2: kind of clothes, if it is one sixteen, one twelve,
- 14:45Speaker 2: either direction are tighter, we're gonna have a rematch, just
- 14:49Speaker 2: like all that now be about a month out. If
- 14:51Speaker 2: that fight is any kind of clothes, and that fight
- 14:54Speaker 2: is if you can make an argument for either one
- 14:57Speaker 2: winning or a draw, We're getting a match for a
- 15:00Speaker 2: lot of reasons, primarily money. That's the first thing. There's
- 15:05Speaker 2: no one else either guy could fight to make more money.
- 15:09Speaker 2: And if it's a good fight and it's close or
- 15:11Speaker 2: a draw, there'll be more intrigued and say, hey, let's
- 15:14Speaker 2: run that back. So I hope people understand that. That's
- 15:17Speaker 2: why anyone who's trying to fight Canelo is kind of
- 15:21Speaker 2: in a rough spot because if you wait, it might
- 15:24Speaker 2: be a two year wait. They have a rematch, it's
- 15:28Speaker 2: not gonna be in December. You'll probably look at next May.
- 15:31Speaker 2: If there's a rematch more than likely maybe sooner, you're
- 15:34Speaker 2: probably looking at next May. Maybe. So if you're waiting
- 15:40Speaker 2: for either of these guys, there's a possibility you might
- 15:43Speaker 2: be on at least at minimum one year weight, but
- 15:46Speaker 2: there's a chance to be eighteen months to two years,
- 15:48Speaker 2: So I don't that's where it's difficult. But yeah, I
- 15:51Speaker 2: think this is the fight that gets made and talked
- 15:54Speaker 2: about first, and you know, we'll see what happens after
- 15:56Speaker 2: the first one and then we go from there. But also,
- 16:00Speaker 2: both these guys are getting kind of up there too.
- 16:02Speaker 2: They don't have a whole lot more fights left. Like,
- 16:04Speaker 2: it's not why oh they're gonna be fighting for twenty
- 16:06Speaker 2: more times? No, No, I hypothetically this might be Crawford's
- 16:09Speaker 2: last go if he's gonna make a bunch of money
- 16:11Speaker 2: off this. He's moved up two classes and wait, we
- 16:14Speaker 2: know it. See happits with guys at this age that
- 16:16Speaker 2: move up like that. I don't have any more fights
- 16:19Speaker 2: for I personally do not. I would be shocked. I
- 16:22Speaker 2: honestly would be shocked.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't see Canelos changing his brand up of
- 16:28Speaker 3: fighting May in September. That's been his thing. You know,
- 16:30Speaker 3: it's worked out well for him as as fans of him,
- 16:33Speaker 3: which I am, you know, I know to expect it.
- 16:35Speaker 3: I know that to be ready for the Canelo fight season.
- 16:38Speaker 3: So yeah, if if this is close like you said,
- 16:41Speaker 3: and there is gonna be a rematch, which I do
- 16:43Speaker 3: believe I expect it to be made. I do not
- 16:45Speaker 3: expect this to be run back as fast as December.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I just don't see another reason too, you know, Canela,
- 16:51Speaker 3: Like I said, it's getting older. He needs his downtime.
- 16:53Speaker 3: You know, he needs his recovery time. And we've seen
- 16:57Speaker 3: the guy, love the guy, but you know we've seen
- 16:59Speaker 3: his last TEW performance. This has been a bit spar
- 17:01Speaker 3: compared to just the last like let's call it, like
- 17:03Speaker 3: four years ago. Uh so I do not see a
- 17:08Speaker 3: rematch happening before me. I agree with you on that,
- 17:12Speaker 3: but yeah, I mean, uh, Beta Videz has gotta has
- 17:15Speaker 3: got to find something. He's got to get some opportunity.
- 17:18Speaker 3: I'm glad he's he's back in November, you know, I'm
- 17:20Speaker 3: glad he and he's on you know, the the read
- 17:23Speaker 3: season card, the ring for they call it card. So
- 17:26Speaker 3: you know he's got big names. Devin Haney is disappointed
- 17:29Speaker 3: as we've been in him. You know, he's still name recognition.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Abdullah Mason, his story is only rising. So he's in
- 17:35Speaker 3: with a good He's you know, he's not in the
- 17:38Speaker 3: he's not a coach. My man is still in first class.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I think so so I'm happy for him for that.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Uh I do expect a lot of chat about the
- 17:46Speaker 3: better be of follow up after November after they both fight,
- 17:49Speaker 3: seeing how their fights go down, But same thing. I
- 17:51Speaker 3: don't let's see, but uh I feel bad. I don't
- 17:54Speaker 3: know the name off the top of my head, but
- 17:56Speaker 3: better be a fighting a guy named Dean Nicholson who
- 17:58Speaker 3: I'm actually not familiar with, don't know anything about his
- 18:01Speaker 3: style skills, and there was twenty two and one, but
- 18:04Speaker 3: I it's it's I'm not I'm never likely to bet
- 18:08Speaker 3: on a better be of loss, So yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 3: So I expect both these guys to come out victorious
- 18:15Speaker 3: and you know, hopefully maybe maybe before May, maybe before
- 18:18Speaker 3: the second Canelo Crawford fight, these guys will will have
- 18:25Speaker 3: a shot and you know, we'll we won't have Canelo
- 18:28Speaker 3: Crawford sucking the oxygen again out of the room for
- 18:30Speaker 3: everybody else. And speaking of which, there's only so after
- 18:34Speaker 3: this episode. There's only two more episodes of our show
- 18:37Speaker 3: before Canelo Crawford. So for the next one, you know,
- 18:40Speaker 3: we'll there'll be a lot of to talk about it.
- 18:42Speaker 3: But that final one is going to be a full
- 18:44Speaker 3: Canelo Crawford extravaganza, So prepare yourselves.
- 18:47Speaker 2: For that, all right.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Moving on to another big name of the sport whose
- 18:53Speaker 3: stock has risen and fallen like crazy over the years,
- 18:55Speaker 3: but many Pakiao our Man has been officially ranked as
- 18:59Speaker 3: the number one WBC welterweight contender after his comeback fight.
- 19:03Speaker 3: You Jamison made the great point that after his draw
- 19:05Speaker 3: against Mario Barrios, his group chat was probably buzzing, telling him, man,
- 19:09Speaker 3: he looked great, he could probably fight again. There's no
- 19:12Speaker 3: way he's not coming back for another fight after this
- 19:14Speaker 3: breaking right, This is just gonna add fuel to the group.
- 19:16Speaker 2: One better. We probably got two or three more left. No,
- 19:21Speaker 2: you're right, You're right. Hey, if the money's there, the
- 19:25Speaker 2: money is there. If he fights Tank in December or
- 19:28Speaker 2: in January, that's a big fight somewhere that's gonna sell
- 19:32Speaker 2: out twenty thousand plus seats. People gonna watch and tune in.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Even you get this face knocked off, people still gonna watch,
- 19:39Speaker 2: you know. So it'ser some one of those things where
- 19:41Speaker 2: if there's money to be made, especially in this economy
- 19:43Speaker 2: where everything is getting cut off, everything is not things
- 19:47Speaker 2: are you know, there's a struggle to make money these days.
- 19:50Speaker 2: So if you're able to make twenty million dollars in
- 19:52Speaker 2: a night or thirty million dollars in a night, I
- 19:55Speaker 2: think he's gonna take the chance to do it. Hey,
- 19:57Speaker 2: I think that's gonna happen. And right, so if you
- 20:00Speaker 2: train and look like he did. No, No, of course
- 20:03Speaker 2: it wasn't prime manny. Right, it wasn't O seven manny
- 20:06Speaker 2: or oh, it wasn't any of that stuff. But it
- 20:08Speaker 2: looked relatively well for a guy that age and his experienced.
- 20:12Speaker 2: So my thing is this, if he continues, he's not
- 20:16Speaker 2: just fighting no tuna fight, He's gonna fight some sort
- 20:19Speaker 2: of somebody with a name. Because you have to have
- 20:20Speaker 2: a draw, you gotta bring some money to the table,
- 20:22Speaker 2: which is fine. I'm just curious what direction they going
- 20:25Speaker 2: in because the next fight will kind of give us
- 20:27Speaker 2: a direction on how they want to milk this. Cause
- 20:29Speaker 2: he fights let's type of thing. Let's say he fights
- 20:31Speaker 2: with Devin Haine, just hypothetically speaking, then okay, there's probably
- 20:34Speaker 2: a two more fights after that. Wind lose a draw.
- 20:37Speaker 2: If it's a tank, then are you got one left?
- 20:40Speaker 2: We kind of happen in that fight, We kind of
- 20:41Speaker 2: idea what would happen but we know that the major payday.
- 20:44Speaker 2: So it just depends on what this campus looking like
- 20:47Speaker 2: and what they're what they're talking about. But I know
- 20:50Speaker 2: the group TET was buzzing because like, hey man, we
- 20:52Speaker 2: got a couple more fights. We can take advantage of
- 20:54Speaker 2: the situation. I think that's what's going on.
- 20:57Speaker 3: You've already said struck when the iron is hot. I
- 20:59Speaker 3: mean it's just like that's a universal truth, not just
- 21:03Speaker 3: in the sport anytime. So my man is is hot again,
- 21:06Speaker 3: and yes, people are gonna win even if he loses.
- 21:09Speaker 3: That clip of him get knocked out by Marquezes it
- 21:12Speaker 3: keeps coming around. That doesn't get old. People love it,
- 21:15Speaker 3: you know people.
- 21:18Speaker 2: So I remember that night I'm watching that fight. I
- 21:22Speaker 2: told someone, somebody gotta go. Somebody's gonna get dropped. There
- 21:26Speaker 2: was It wasn't going to the cars the way they
- 21:28Speaker 2: were fighting, the way what happened previously in the round,
- 21:31Speaker 2: previously in the in the previous rounds, that that's the
- 21:34Speaker 2: only way it was gonna end. Somebody was gonna get
- 21:35Speaker 2: knocked out like that. It has happened to be Manny.
- 21:37Speaker 2: That's all.
- 21:39Speaker 3: That clip was on Instagram and it was without commentary,
- 21:42Speaker 3: just the sounds of the fight and when the knockout happened,
- 21:45Speaker 3: in my head, I of course heard he's not getting up, Jim,
- 21:48Speaker 3: he's not getting up, because that's burned in my brain,
- 21:51Speaker 3: right right, right, Well here's the one for you. Let's
- 21:54Speaker 3: let's add a wrinkle here. I think Manny needs a win,
- 21:57Speaker 3: like a win win in this in his next fight,
- 21:59Speaker 3: which will and it's not it's a matter of when.
- 22:01Speaker 3: It's a matter of it what if.
- 22:03Speaker 2: He does when win. I just think, honestly, a competitive
- 22:07Speaker 2: fight keeps him fighting. Okay, that's the thing. If your competitive,
- 22:10Speaker 2: if you can we can make an argument that hey
- 22:12Speaker 2: could have won that one or a it was close.
- 22:15Speaker 2: That keeps you fighting. When you get when you get
- 22:17Speaker 2: dropped or if you're getting washed, then it's like all right, man,
- 22:20Speaker 2: hanging up. That's why the Devin An anything is interesting
- 22:23Speaker 2: because you fight a guy like that, he got the chance.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Like I'm not saying he's gonna win, but you gotta
- 22:28Speaker 2: got a better chance versus Tank, even though I think
- 22:30Speaker 2: Tank has some other issues, but I think you gotta,
- 22:33Speaker 2: you gotta, you got honest action in these bouts. So
- 22:37Speaker 2: it's just it's this interesting to see that's all, okay, okay,
- 22:40Speaker 2: So you.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Think that if he has a competitive fight still loses,
- 22:43Speaker 3: that he would come back for another one, maybe even
- 22:45Speaker 3: two or three more and.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Long as the money's there long and it will be
- 22:48Speaker 2: because people want to fight. We don't have a lot
- 22:50Speaker 2: of fights that draw the casual person in. I think
- 22:54Speaker 2: that's what's so big about Canela Crawford is it's drawing
- 22:58Speaker 2: casual fans in. We need more fights that draw casual
- 23:02Speaker 2: people and I'm glad we're talking about this. Over the weekend,
- 23:06Speaker 2: UFC and Paramount Plus came to an agreement with the
- 23:10Speaker 2: fall our stuff on Paramount Plus and CBS. Boxing needs
- 23:13Speaker 2: something like that immediately. I understand dazz In or Zone,
- 23:18Speaker 2: I understand some things with Amazon and all that. You
- 23:21Speaker 2: need somewhere where we know what every fight's going to
- 23:24Speaker 2: be on and we know that every now and then
- 23:26Speaker 2: there's gonna be a fight on network television. If you
- 23:29Speaker 2: want the sport to grow, it has to be that way.
- 23:31Speaker 2: In the last twelve months, we've seen both the WWE
- 23:34Speaker 2: and UFC get network contracts. Boxing needs to figure it
- 23:38Speaker 2: out soon because they're going to get left behind. That's
- 23:40Speaker 2: not good and it yes, it is different than UFC
- 23:44Speaker 2: and WWE, but they're all similar to where they are
- 23:47Speaker 2: all in a Simil swats where they all had high
- 23:48Speaker 2: payer views once upon time. That's the longer the case anymore.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Well, the thing that makes them completely equal is that
- 23:56Speaker 3: they all want the most eyeballs possible. Like that's that's
- 23:59Speaker 3: another universal truth. Like you know, you can't play it
- 24:01Speaker 3: to nobody. And I think that both UFC and WE
- 24:05Speaker 3: even smart for the direction they were going, and boxing
- 24:08Speaker 3: is going completely opposite. They're completely different direction. So I
- 24:12Speaker 3: have said before, you know, We've talked about this many
- 24:14Speaker 3: times on the show. I'm not as optimistic about the
- 24:16Speaker 3: future of boxing when it's not available, if not it's
- 24:19Speaker 3: on if it's not on ESPN, like you said, regular TV. Yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 3: and the popularity has wayne compared to UFC, of course,
- 24:26Speaker 3: but you still you still gotta try. Man he still
- 24:30Speaker 3: gotta try as hard as you can to make new
- 24:31Speaker 3: fans and get new viewers. And I just don't know,
- 24:35Speaker 3: I don't know what that's gonna look like. But you know,
- 24:38Speaker 3: so far, these couple of names that have been you know,
- 24:42Speaker 3: kind of flow around Manny Pacio's return and Canela Crawford
- 24:45Speaker 3: they're only good for the sport as as much as
- 24:49Speaker 3: we were kind of hamming in hauling about old man
- 24:51Speaker 3: Manny coming back, and you know, the the nostalgia killing
- 24:53Speaker 3: our culture and expecting, you know, these old guys to
- 24:56Speaker 3: save us. The man look good. You know, we can't deny.
- 24:59Speaker 3: He looked damn good. And you said not prime Manny. No,
- 25:02Speaker 3: but he looked as good as you know, any other
- 25:05Speaker 3: any just mid tier fighter today. A young guy in
- 25:07Speaker 3: his twenties was mitterer today.
- 25:09Speaker 2: He looked better than a lot of guys that currently
- 25:12Speaker 2: fighting that are way better shape and way better athletic prime.
- 25:16Speaker 2: He looked prepared. And I can appreciate that because we
- 25:19Speaker 2: get a lot of guys that are in their prime
- 25:21Speaker 2: that don't be coming to the ring prepared.
- 25:22Speaker 3: And that's the problem, speaking of being prepared, many being
- 25:27Speaker 3: prepared or not. Ryan Garcia supposedly turned down to fight
- 25:29Speaker 3: against Telfy Ma Lopez, which I think is down just
- 25:31Speaker 3: fight guys. But he said he wants to fight Manny.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Of course, is there is there any well, Okay, sure
- 25:38Speaker 3: of course he does. But if he does, there any
- 25:40Speaker 3: universe where Ryan Garcia has chance to get to Betty.
- 25:43Speaker 2: It's a universe, because you know, Ryan is actually unfortunately,
- 25:48Speaker 2: Ryan is actually a somewhat of a talented boxer. Mam Ryan,
- 25:52Speaker 2: he's an idiot. So you know, when you combine those two,
- 25:55Speaker 2: all bet all things are possible. However, without that being said,
- 25:59Speaker 2: it's not gonna I I don't see paciows Camp getting
- 26:02Speaker 2: involved with that. It just feels too unpredictable. It feels
- 26:06Speaker 2: way way too unpredictable in a lot of ways. I
- 26:09Speaker 2: don't think they want to deal with that surface. I
- 26:11Speaker 2: think we get Ryan Garcia and Roy. I think we
- 26:15Speaker 2: get that. I've heard rumors of that, and I think
- 26:17Speaker 2: that'd be cool for both parties, but we don't. Honestly,
- 26:20Speaker 2: Ryan Garcia, o'me deserve a good, big fight right now.
- 26:22Speaker 2: I'd be honest with you. I don't think he deserves it.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I honestly don't think he deserves it at the moment.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Okay, I think you know what, You've been so good
- 26:30Speaker 3: at predicting shit on the show that I want to
- 26:32Speaker 3: do the same thing too, even if I'm wrong. I
- 26:33Speaker 3: want to just put it out there and say say
- 26:35Speaker 3: with my chest, I think Ryan Garcia doesn't have the
- 26:38Speaker 3: ring IQ to beat Manny. He's a talented fighter. I
- 26:42Speaker 3: think Manny's smart enough to know that. And you know,
- 26:45Speaker 3: Ryan Garcia, Yes he doesn't deserve a big fight, but
- 26:47Speaker 3: he's still a name, and he's still a draw, and
- 26:49Speaker 3: he still got his following. So I would say that
- 26:51Speaker 3: Manny would take the Ryan Garcia fight. I think he
- 26:54Speaker 3: would take it over the Tank Davis fight, because that's
- 26:57Speaker 3: another thing that brought Ryan down is Tank's ring. Iqu
- 27:00Speaker 3: I think Many still got the smarts and he's got
- 27:02Speaker 3: the moves, he's got the tools, he's got the talent,
- 27:05Speaker 3: and I'm gonna say official prediction, if not the very
- 27:09Speaker 3: next Manu fight, he would fight Ryan Garcia. And let's
- 27:12Speaker 3: see how ridiculously we're all got turned out to be.
- 27:16Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 27:17Speaker 3: That's fair.
- 27:18Speaker 2: There's a couple other guys I would be interested seeing
- 27:21Speaker 2: many involved with, but for right now, it's cool. There's
- 27:26Speaker 2: a lot of options. There's a lot of options depending
- 27:27Speaker 2: on how they want to go with it, but it
- 27:29Speaker 2: feels like they're all gonna be money options from here
- 27:31Speaker 2: on out, because the only reason why man is still
- 27:32Speaker 2: fighting is because the money. There's no other reason why.
- 27:35Speaker 2: When you're in in forties, you either owe somebody or
- 27:37Speaker 2: you're extremely bored. I don't think anyone's this bored. So yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 2: I do think.
- 27:43Speaker 3: I do think Tank would be in much better fight.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Oh absolutely. There's also the pre fight stuff. You would
- 27:49Speaker 2: get a lot of stuff, a lot of stuff when
- 27:53Speaker 2: it comes to that. So yeah, Well.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Moving on to another another fighter that had a lot
- 27:59Speaker 3: of stuff go on that we've been talking about, Keishaan Davis.
- 28:03Speaker 3: He did an interview with Oh damn it, I'm sorry
- 28:09Speaker 3: Ariel Hawani. I apologize for not having that ready, but yeah,
- 28:13Speaker 3: he did an interview with Ariol Hawani, his first major
- 28:16Speaker 3: interview after the fracas when he missed wait and you know,
- 28:19Speaker 3: had an altercation after the fight. I'm sure the Kishan,
- 28:22Speaker 3: you know, we we sat on the show that he
- 28:24Speaker 3: is ex communicado like in John Wick because of his behavior,
- 28:27Speaker 3: and I'm sure he would have wanted to come on
- 28:29Speaker 3: our show to talk about it. But we did say
- 28:31Speaker 3: he was ex communicado, so I'm sure he respected that.
- 28:33Speaker 3: So you know, I understand when you wanted to go
- 28:36Speaker 3: out on Ariel Hawani instead, even though we are the
- 28:38Speaker 3: most prominent voices in boxing media right now. But did
- 28:41Speaker 3: a long interview there, talked about his behavior you know,
- 28:44Speaker 3: fested up to a lot of stuff about You know,
- 28:47Speaker 3: he his mind was in the right place. He wasn't ready.
- 28:49Speaker 3: He was trying to force this fight, trying to force
- 28:51Speaker 3: making weight. Apologize to a lot of people, Apologize to norfolk.
- 28:56Speaker 3: The first question to you is are we forgiving him?
- 28:59Speaker 3: Do allow Keishan back into the fold? Or are we
- 29:02Speaker 3: writing him off? As you know as has been we forgive,
- 29:07Speaker 3: but we don't forget.
- 29:08Speaker 2: This is also a powerful a message because you have
- 29:13Speaker 2: to as an adult, the moment something ain't going right,
- 29:18Speaker 2: you got to speak up. Like, for instance, we have
- 29:20Speaker 2: a show, we have a set time that we had recorded.
- 29:23Speaker 2: If anything comes up with any of our lives, we
- 29:26Speaker 2: hit the chat immediately. Hey can y'all adjust? Or hey
- 29:29Speaker 2: we have a guest that can only do this time
- 29:30Speaker 2: this day. Can we adjust. That's what this is all about.
- 29:34Speaker 2: If he would have came out and said a month
- 29:35Speaker 2: before the fire, say hey, you know what, it would
- 29:38Speaker 2: be unhealthy of me to try to get out to wait.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I will pay whatever, fine, but I'm letting you know
- 29:42Speaker 2: this the situation. You can back out now and we'll
- 29:45Speaker 2: still pay you, or we'll get somebody out there. Ask
- 29:47Speaker 2: me some sort of like, hey man, instead of putting
- 29:50Speaker 2: on this situation, it could have been handled way differently,
- 29:54Speaker 2: but it just didn't go down that way. It was
- 29:55Speaker 2: lack of professionalism. It was very arrogant and it's one
- 29:59Speaker 2: of those lessons that, to be honest with you, he
- 30:01Speaker 2: may not recover from Why there's a chance that he's
- 30:04Speaker 2: gonna need to be spectacular in the ring to recover
- 30:08Speaker 2: from this situation.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Well, and I'll definitely got to give him some credit.
- 30:13Speaker 3: I mean, yes, agreed, he was arrogant, he didn't speak up,
- 30:16Speaker 3: but also you learn from sucking up, you learn from
- 30:18Speaker 3: your mistakes. And you know, the guy did say you
- 30:21Speaker 3: know that. It was a long interview, but just trying
- 30:24Speaker 3: to pull some some thoughts from it. That he was
- 30:30Speaker 3: going NonStop after the Olympics, fight after fighter to fight
- 30:33Speaker 3: his name rising. There's a lot of pressure, there's a
- 30:35Speaker 3: lot of eyes on you. And we've talked about young
- 30:36Speaker 3: guys on social media not even on there just because
- 30:40Speaker 3: for fun they have to be to get their brand going,
- 30:43Speaker 3: they have to fight often. They we've even said some
- 30:47Speaker 3: guys aren't fighting as often as they should be, so
- 30:50Speaker 3: we're kind of it's a double led sword. You know,
- 30:52Speaker 3: when you're in that position trying to make a name
- 30:54Speaker 3: for yourself, that shit's hard, and I would never I
- 30:57Speaker 3: don't know anything about what that's like. You know, my
- 31:00Speaker 3: liberty is solely centered on the Arizona craft beer seed
- 31:05Speaker 3: that's gone the ship because the industry is in the toilet.
- 31:08Speaker 2: But you know, that's that's a lot of pressure.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Being on TV and always having to be on your
- 31:13Speaker 3: piece of cubes and then with the training. My god,
- 31:16Speaker 3: there's one thing to be I don't know, like Brad
- 31:19Speaker 3: Pitt or George Cooney with cameras on you all the
- 31:21Speaker 3: time and you know, focusing on acting, which not saying
- 31:24Speaker 3: that it's easy, but it's not the same as being
- 31:26Speaker 3: a boxer. And he also did say, you know, he
- 31:31Speaker 3: his whole thing was don't let anybody see you sweat,
- 31:34Speaker 3: don't let anybody see you worry. He even said, like,
- 31:36Speaker 3: I'm from the hood, man, we don't talk about this
- 31:37Speaker 3: kind of stuff.
- 31:38Speaker 2: We keep it, we keep it. So being from the
- 31:41Speaker 2: hood thing I don't like, because I know a lot
- 31:43Speaker 2: of people from the hood who have decency and communication skills.
- 31:46Speaker 2: The same about being from the hood, it's about being
- 31:48Speaker 2: able to communicate. Hey, man, I can't make weight. Let's
- 31:51Speaker 2: try to figure something out with the contract. Now, I'm
- 31:54Speaker 2: not able to make the weight. If you want to
- 31:55Speaker 2: still fight, that's cool. If you want to back out,
- 31:58Speaker 2: that's fine too. Will work out the financials. But don't
- 32:02Speaker 2: say you from the because now that's the simple communication,
- 32:05Speaker 2: and be honest with you. He's a younger guy, so
- 32:08Speaker 2: I give him a lot of I give him some.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I saw him out a little bit. However, like anything else,
- 32:15Speaker 2: your performance in the ring will always overshadow everything out
- 32:18Speaker 2: of it. But you better be damn good. We've given
- 32:21Speaker 2: a lot of fighters a lot of grace for a
- 32:23Speaker 2: lot of the bullshit they've done out of the ring,
- 32:25Speaker 2: because a lot of fighters should not be given the
- 32:27Speaker 2: grace we've given them. However, they've been really good in
- 32:30Speaker 2: the ring, so we allow that. The moment you aren't
- 32:32Speaker 2: not good in the ring, all bets are off. So
- 32:35Speaker 2: he bet his next fight. Whenever the next fight is,
- 32:37Speaker 2: he better put on an amazing performance.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I'm I did appreciate him saying near the end, guys,
- 32:46Speaker 3: mental health is real, you know, talk to your friends,
- 32:48Speaker 3: talk to your people. Don't just say are you good?
- 32:50Speaker 3: He's at Stop asking that stop asking are you good?
- 32:52Speaker 3: That's not enough for real conversations, which I do appreciate,
- 32:55Speaker 3: you know.
- 32:55Speaker 2: But there's a thing though, if you ask that, If
- 32:59Speaker 2: someone asks that, say no and get in a conversation.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Like we're adults, so we can't keep on ask people
- 33:04Speaker 2: to read our minds. If someone asks you a question,
- 33:07Speaker 2: answer it truthfully, and I'd be like, you know what
- 33:09Speaker 2: I'm not. If you've got some time, I'd be more
- 33:11Speaker 2: than happing to explain. Don't just shrug it off. If
- 33:14Speaker 2: someone asks you, they're asking for a reason. They're not
- 33:16Speaker 2: asking because it sounds good. They're asking for a reason.
- 33:19Speaker 2: So if someone asks that question, answer it. I don't.
- 33:22Speaker 2: The problem I have with these kinds of things, these
- 33:24Speaker 2: kind of interviews, is this, he wouldn't be doing this
- 33:27Speaker 2: if the backlash was so crazy. You messed up. You
- 33:31Speaker 2: got to own up to that and don't put it
- 33:33Speaker 2: on everybody else. So eventually, here's the thing. If you
- 33:36Speaker 2: want to see the change, well it should be the change,
- 33:40Speaker 2: like if people are genuinely asking. For the most part,
- 33:42Speaker 2: that if I was in his hometown, there's people who
- 33:44Speaker 2: look forward to that fight. There's people who generally have
- 33:49Speaker 2: his best interest at heart, I don't think there's many
- 33:52Speaker 2: people just trying to be around us to be around.
- 33:54Speaker 2: With that being said, if there's an issue, speak out
- 33:57Speaker 2: about people who are trying to help you. They want
- 33:59Speaker 2: to see you succeed. That whole city, that whole night,
- 34:01Speaker 2: they had club performances, they had concerts. There was a
- 34:04Speaker 2: bunch of events ready to go based off of him.
- 34:08Speaker 2: So it's hard for me to believe that he uses
- 34:11Speaker 2: mental health as all people really advantage. No, no, no,
- 34:14Speaker 2: you gotta seek that. Like as an adult, if you
- 34:17Speaker 2: got a problem, if somebody asks you a question and
- 34:20Speaker 2: they're asking to help you, you better accept her. That's
- 34:23Speaker 2: on you.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Sure, But not everybody who asks are you good or
- 34:27Speaker 3: how you doing? Really cares. I mean, with you go
- 34:29Speaker 3: to the grocery store and they ask how your day is?
- 34:31Speaker 3: They know they don't give it.
- 34:32Speaker 2: That's that's different. But the people who are around him,
- 34:34Speaker 2: people in the circle who are asking that they I
- 34:37Speaker 2: believe from what I know about that that talent and
- 34:40Speaker 2: how things are done, I juny believe they actually care
- 34:44Speaker 2: and if they can't help, they would get somebody who can.
- 34:47Speaker 2: That's the thing, and I think he needs to take
- 34:49Speaker 2: advantage of that, because again, it's very rare that a
- 34:53Speaker 2: fighter has a hometown like that, to where the whole
- 34:56Speaker 2: the whole city shuts down when you fight. We don't
- 34:58Speaker 2: have that anymore. We used to when we were growing up,
- 35:01Speaker 2: but we don't have the oh shit, this guy's fighting,
- 35:04Speaker 2: the whole city's out, the whole entire hoods out. We
- 35:07Speaker 2: don't have that as much anymore, and it's very rare
- 35:11Speaker 2: to get that. So it's hard to believe that whoever
- 35:15Speaker 2: asked him if he's good was just doing it just
- 35:18Speaker 2: as a courtesy. That's all.
- 35:21Speaker 3: That's fair. Yeah, I mean the Philippines entirely would shut
- 35:25Speaker 3: down with many Pecio would fight basketball. I'm saying so yeah,
- 35:28Speaker 3: And I don't know much about anything about Norfolk in Virginia. Honestly,
- 35:32Speaker 3: I have no soul experience to that place.
- 35:35Speaker 2: In my day job, I know people who live in
- 35:37Speaker 2: that area because for the company we work for, it's
- 35:39Speaker 2: based out of Virginia, so I have a lot of
- 35:42Speaker 2: people who are from that area or around. So they
- 35:45Speaker 2: were going to the fight like they had bought Tickens.
- 35:46Speaker 2: They had talked about it two weeks in advance, and
- 35:49Speaker 2: they were like, Hey, the whole hood like everybody's out,
- 35:52Speaker 2: people were coming into the city. It was a movie.
- 35:55Speaker 2: It was supposed to be a movie and turn into
- 35:57Speaker 2: a horror film.
- 35:58Speaker 3: So yeah, well, I definitely agree that he needs to
- 36:03Speaker 3: have an amazing performance, but I think he's got it
- 36:05Speaker 3: in him. I mean, he hasn't had really bad performances.
- 36:07Speaker 3: The last fight before this one was against Dennis Berrycheck
- 36:12Speaker 3: when he won the title. Fantastic. I saw that when
- 36:15Speaker 3: I was on vacation in Austin at a Mexican restaurant
- 36:18Speaker 3: that had a giant TV in the middle of that
- 36:21Speaker 3: was on ESPN two, And by the way, I asked
- 36:24Speaker 3: the manager there, can you switch at ESPN for boxing?
- 36:26Speaker 3: And he did, which again goes back to the ship
- 36:29Speaker 3: that we're gonna lose with top Recks not on regular TV.
- 36:32Speaker 3: But that's a conversation we've already had. But no, So yeah,
- 36:37Speaker 3: I mean, I I don't know where we stand with
- 36:39Speaker 3: this guy. He said that he's not coming back right away.
- 36:43Speaker 3: He said maybe he'd fight in a year or so.
- 36:45Speaker 3: He's going to take time for himself, for his mental health,
- 36:48Speaker 3: first family. He said he's not even training. He did
- 36:50Speaker 3: say he's gonna help Bud Crawford train for the fight,
- 36:53Speaker 3: but to him, that was more helping Bud than you know,
- 36:56Speaker 3: for himself. But I don't know. I mean year from now,
- 37:01Speaker 3: I don't he's going to be around, you know, his
- 37:02Speaker 3: brother's still fight. He said to be at their fights.
- 37:04Speaker 3: He's not going to disappear and just you know, uh,
- 37:08Speaker 3: just be completely you know, on the scene anywhere. But
- 37:12Speaker 3: who's no Who's to say what's going to happen a
- 37:14Speaker 3: year later when he comes back and whether people come
- 37:16Speaker 3: out for him.
- 37:17Speaker 2: That part that that's a big part. And also how
- 37:22Speaker 2: being away from the ring for more than a year
- 37:24Speaker 2: is not an easy thing. That is not a guarantee,
- 37:27Speaker 2: especially when you're that kind of boxer. You guys stay sharp,
- 37:30Speaker 2: you guys stay efficient. Everything's timing, I don't, I don't know.
- 37:34Speaker 2: But it is good that he's taken time away for
- 37:35Speaker 2: his health. I agree with that.
- 37:37Speaker 3: Sure, there's some things that I've heard that I don't
- 37:40Speaker 3: know what it's based on, like, you know, psychologically speaking, again,
- 37:43Speaker 3: barely graduated with a bachelors or with the s bachelor's.
- 37:46Speaker 3: But you know, there is this heard people talk about
- 37:49Speaker 3: the start where when people become famous, they stop developing.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Like both as a child actor, or even to somebody
- 37:55Speaker 3: in their twenties. You sort of like begin living in
- 37:58Speaker 3: a bubble and you don't really see anything outside of
- 38:00Speaker 3: it because you got your you got your team, you
- 38:02Speaker 3: get a promo. All you thinking about is your career,
- 38:05Speaker 3: your celebrity, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. So you know,
- 38:08Speaker 3: my man, he's twenty six. He's not a little baby
- 38:10Speaker 3: compared to us or watched this. Hell, yes he's a baby,
- 38:13Speaker 3: but he's an adult man. But you know he's been
- 38:15Speaker 3: he's been in the spotlight for a long time. You know,
- 38:18Speaker 3: who's to say where he is? You know, he's an adult,
- 38:22Speaker 3: we're adults. We talked about maturity and speaking up when
- 38:25Speaker 3: something's wrong. I don't know how much he actually knows
- 38:28Speaker 3: to do that or new to do that before the situation.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Maybe this is what it took, you know, just people
- 38:33Speaker 3: throwing metaphorical you know, popcorn and cans and tomatoes tomatoes
- 38:37Speaker 3: at him from the stands for him to realize like, oh,
- 38:39Speaker 3: this shit is serious. I don't know that he knew
- 38:42Speaker 3: how serious this situation was before he went in. Not
- 38:45Speaker 3: making excuses, I'm just saying I can there there's there's
- 38:50Speaker 3: avenues where I can see where his mindset was what
- 38:52Speaker 3: I was on this, So what is our our take
- 38:57Speaker 3: on the show was that man is ex anikado. You
- 39:00Speaker 3: know he's no longer the conversation, how are we gonna
- 39:05Speaker 3: treat him going forward?
- 39:07Speaker 2: That? But also here's the thing. A lot can change
- 39:09Speaker 2: in a year help boxing, A lot of things change
- 39:11Speaker 2: in a year. It's like this, you have you have
- 39:15Speaker 2: you done, have a second chance. What do you do
- 39:17Speaker 2: with that second chance? That's what's gonna be. There's not
- 39:20Speaker 2: enough quality boxers in the game right now to say, oh,
- 39:23Speaker 2: you can't fight again. However, you got to earn a
- 39:26Speaker 2: lot of trust back. So when you earn a lot
- 39:28Speaker 2: of trust, that means you got to put on dominant
- 39:30Speaker 2: performances and you probably gotta fight once every four months.
- 39:33Speaker 2: So you probably look at like three times a year
- 39:37Speaker 2: and just get back into good graces because once you're
- 39:39Speaker 2: going for a year, people kind of forget about you.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Like that's just kind of how it goes. Like once
- 39:44Speaker 2: you stop fighting for whatever reason, whether you're heard or
- 39:47Speaker 2: legal issues or whatever, people kind of move on to
- 39:51Speaker 2: the next guy. Keep it rolling. Like for instance, Guy
- 39:53Speaker 2: Richardson Hutchins are Hitchens Hutchess, Are Hitchins, Richson, Richard Hitchins,
- 39:59Speaker 2: hitches Y. A guy like that is a guy that
- 40:02Speaker 2: I can fight two more times on the next year
- 40:04Speaker 2: and take a lot of that buzz away, you know
- 40:06Speaker 2: what I mean. That's a guy that's very talented and
- 40:09Speaker 2: that's very confident in his abilities. He's in New York.
- 40:11Speaker 2: He would do good numbers in New York. Those guys
- 40:14Speaker 2: like that are waiting for the opportunity. So my thing
- 40:17Speaker 2: is this. I understand he probably needs some time off
- 40:19Speaker 2: for mental health and his own mind. I get that,
- 40:22Speaker 2: but be careful what you wish for, because once you
- 40:25Speaker 2: sit out, something else is gonna take that spot. That's
- 40:27Speaker 2: just how it goes.
- 40:29Speaker 3: They talked in that interview about Abdullah Mason is fighting
- 40:31Speaker 3: for the very same title that Kishan vacated. So you know,
- 40:34Speaker 3: there's people ready and waiting. And another thing that's always
- 40:37Speaker 3: been this has been my issue with other sports. My
- 40:40Speaker 3: personal issue is that, you know, basketball football, as much
- 40:43Speaker 3: as I can enjoy watching it, there's too many damn teams.
- 40:45Speaker 3: There's so many people on a team, there's so many names,
- 40:47Speaker 3: team names to remember. Most of them are birds, like
- 40:49Speaker 3: they can't fit in my tiny little peop brain. With boxers,
- 40:52Speaker 3: I'm a lot more aware of who's out there. But
- 40:55Speaker 3: still there's a lot of guys fighting and and women fighting. Who,
- 40:58Speaker 3: like I just said earlier, better be this fighting guy
- 41:01Speaker 3: with twenty two fights only one loss, I don't. I
- 41:03Speaker 3: don't know anything about him if I saw him fight,
- 41:05Speaker 3: because I just just put on fights anytime. I don't remember.
- 41:09Speaker 3: There's so many names out there, even if they're at
- 41:12Speaker 3: the top tier guys. I want to learn those names.
- 41:14Speaker 3: I want to see who's up and coming. And yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 3: it's it's easy to just say you know Kisha and who.
- 41:20Speaker 3: As much as that would suck, it.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Is it would happen. I'm telling you. The moment, the moment,
- 41:25Speaker 2: six months goes by and we don't hear nothing from you,
- 41:28Speaker 2: we forget we honestly, Like, for instance, if Tank didn't
- 41:32Speaker 2: have legal situation, which you I'm glad they didn't decided
- 41:35Speaker 2: to not press to not press charge with which is good.
- 41:38Speaker 2: If he didn't have that, he was still mulling over
- 41:40Speaker 2: everything else, we would just move on. Like we're already
- 41:44Speaker 2: in a sense moving on already. There's already mega fight happening.
- 41:47Speaker 2: There's already talks of pack Yaw fighting again. Their Hell,
- 41:50Speaker 2: there's talks of Andre Warden and Anthony Joshua fighting, so
- 41:54Speaker 2: just in general there, Yeah, and I've heard something with
- 41:57Speaker 2: Triple G coming back. So there's just always stuff in
- 42:00Speaker 2: the boxing news that if you don't fight over around
- 42:03Speaker 2: a six to seven month timeframe as a fan, we
- 42:06Speaker 2: just move on.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, Triple G never officially retired as far
- 42:11Speaker 3: as I remember, unless I missed it. But you know what, Hey,
- 42:15Speaker 3: let me give you a name and see if you, uh,
- 42:17Speaker 3: have you ever heard of this guy, Andy Ruiz Junior
- 42:21Speaker 3: Andy Ruiz. You know, one of the biggest upsets in
- 42:24Speaker 3: modern boxing history against against Joshua. You know, he was
- 42:29Speaker 3: the top of the town, my god, and you know
- 42:32Speaker 3: everybody has decided about what he's going to do next. Another loss,
- 42:35Speaker 3: which again I never wrote him up. I don't write
- 42:37Speaker 3: people off just for one loss.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Uh.
- 42:40Speaker 3: So that can happen when you kind of have a
- 42:42Speaker 3: major upset and get high on your supply and you're unprepared.
- 42:45Speaker 3: He has set himself. You didn't prepared, and then nothing
- 42:47Speaker 3: like I do bo life.
- 42:50Speaker 2: From what I've heard, he got caught in the Hey,
- 42:52Speaker 2: I'm the champ. I got the money, I'm the channel,
- 42:55Speaker 2: I got the belt, look at me, et cetera, et cetera.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Never really took his conditioning seriously in my opinion, like
- 43:02Speaker 2: for a guy it's a world champ, or was a
- 43:04Speaker 2: world champ at one point, why he never took the
- 43:07Speaker 2: conditioning the way he should have because it hands is nice,
- 43:11Speaker 2: the hands are very concise, fast, strengthen a point compact.
- 43:16Speaker 2: But it just felt that conditioning wise, you kind of
- 43:18Speaker 2: knew it was what it was because it just didn't
- 43:20Speaker 2: see a lot of improvement. I'm not asking to be,
- 43:23Speaker 2: you know, two hundred and ten pounds, but it just
- 43:26Speaker 2: felt that he had a pot belly gut and there
- 43:29Speaker 2: boxing and you just can't last that long in that
- 43:33Speaker 2: sport with that kind of you know, belly on you. Yeah.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Well, I kind of feel like I'm like, I'm digging
- 43:41Speaker 3: back into a core memory in the back of my
- 43:43Speaker 3: brain remembering that a guy named Andrew Luiz existed, because
- 43:46Speaker 3: that feels like, so what what I don't remember off
- 43:50Speaker 3: the top of my head, But how long ago was
- 43:52Speaker 3: that fight? Was in the last like four or five
- 43:54Speaker 3: years twenty nineteen? Yeah, yep, and shit, I mean forget
- 44:01Speaker 3: about just boxing in general, just life. You know, when
- 44:03Speaker 3: the Rona happened, you know, our memories all just got discombobulated.
- 44:07Speaker 3: So twenty nineteen, remember Andrew Reis's you know, his his upset.
- 44:13Speaker 3: That is a lifetime ago that that was his day. Yeah,
- 44:16Speaker 3: but that is at least, speaking for myself, that is
- 44:19Speaker 3: a lifetime ago.
- 44:20Speaker 2: That at least I mean I have friends that had
- 44:24Speaker 2: kids during that time and now they're kids like seven,
- 44:27Speaker 2: six or seven, So yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:31Speaker 3: So just in this conversation is you know, Keishan Davis
- 44:36Speaker 3: went on the show apologize. However you feel about it
- 44:40Speaker 3: the general, y'all, you're mile lage of may vary. I
- 44:43Speaker 3: give him credit for getting out there talking about this,
- 44:48Speaker 3: saying that he fucked up, and you know, apologizing to people.
- 44:51Speaker 3: You can't ignore that. Whether you think it's like, well
- 44:54Speaker 3: he's doing it just for his name, blah blah blah.
- 44:56Speaker 3: I mean, you know, he eddy boxer can just kind
- 44:58Speaker 3: of retire and disappe here into the into the void
- 45:02Speaker 3: like we talked about, but he made the effort. He
- 45:04Speaker 3: came back, and so I will give him a lot
- 45:06Speaker 3: of credit for that. Whatever anybody else feels about it.
- 45:10Speaker 3: I think, how about this, It's important for fighters to
- 45:14Speaker 3: do this, for our fighters to fess up and say
- 45:17Speaker 3: I fucked up, blah blah blah. And like you said,
- 45:21Speaker 3: we excuse a lot of behavior that we shouldn't and
- 45:23Speaker 3: that's just how not just boxing, but you know, celebrity
- 45:26Speaker 3: world actors, we do that, uh, and we should kind
- 45:30Speaker 3: of just expect, at the very least answering for people
- 45:34Speaker 3: for their own behavior. So thumbs up on that and
- 45:38Speaker 3: we'll just see what happens in the next year. Shout
- 45:41Speaker 3: out to you, and shout out to Arieljwane for being,
- 45:44Speaker 3: you know, one of the one of the third or
- 45:47Speaker 3: so best prominent voices in boxing media after us. So
- 45:51Speaker 3: moving on to or, we go on to our next segment,
- 45:54Speaker 3: Pop Pugilism, the recurring segment in which we discuss a movie,
- 45:58Speaker 3: TV show, or documentary about boxing. Today we were talking
- 46:01Speaker 3: about Undisputed to Last Man Standing, a direct to video
- 46:04Speaker 3: film from two thousand and six. We discussed the first
- 46:07Speaker 3: Undisputed movie in a previous episode. That movie starred Ving
- 46:10Speaker 3: Raimes as George the Iceman Chambers. For this sequel, Iceman
- 46:14Speaker 3: Chambers returns, but this time he's played by Michael Jay White,
- 46:17Speaker 3: a badass martial artist I personally love. Y'all might know
- 46:20Speaker 3: him from playing Spawn in the terrible nineteen ninety seven
- 46:23Speaker 3: film from Black Dynamite, which is awesome, a small role
- 46:26Speaker 3: in the Dark Knight as Gamble. His rival in this
- 46:29Speaker 3: movie is a character named Yuri Boyca, played by another
- 46:32Speaker 3: great martial artist named Scott Atkins, probably the current king
- 46:36Speaker 3: of kick ass. Direct to video action flicks have a
- 46:41Speaker 3: lot to say about this, as usual, but James didn't
- 46:42Speaker 3: want to get some thoughts from you on this movie.
- 46:45Speaker 2: It was interesting. A lot of fights, like he was
- 46:48Speaker 2: text earlier, a lot of fighting. It felt like the
- 46:51Speaker 2: movie basically a fight movie, Like How Fast It Fears
- 46:54Speaker 2: was just basically a bunch of loud music and car racing.
- 46:56Speaker 2: This is just much fighting. Why it wasn't no movie
- 46:59Speaker 2: in it just felt like fighting. Somebody's perform just fights
- 47:03Speaker 2: and that was it.
- 47:05Speaker 3: What this feels like is a movie that script that
- 47:08Speaker 3: came in too short, Like the script was like an
- 47:10Speaker 3: hour they needed to get it to, you know, hour twenty, hour,
- 47:12Speaker 3: thirty whatever, and they're like any place who can put
- 47:15Speaker 3: in just a brawl, not even in the ring, Just
- 47:18Speaker 3: like Michael Jay White is just kicking like prison guards
- 47:21Speaker 3: asses other prisoners, any reason they can come up with,
- 47:25Speaker 3: just just to put it in there. So I it
- 47:28Speaker 3: was It was definitely fun. I definitely wanted to watch
- 47:31Speaker 3: something less depressing than Fat City what we did for
- 47:33Speaker 3: our last episode. That was a little heavy and a
- 47:37Speaker 3: great movie, but very heavy. I'm gonna be honest. So
- 47:41Speaker 3: this movie came out in two done six when we
- 47:42Speaker 3: were twenty. I used to be a big film snob.
- 47:47Speaker 3: I still am, but I've softened. In my old age.
- 47:49Speaker 3: I used to look down on direct to video movies.
- 47:52Speaker 3: I thought they were like cheap crap. They were good
- 47:56Speaker 3: enough to be theatrically released. A movie like this couldn't
- 47:59Speaker 3: get its original act you back, so I would never
- 48:01Speaker 3: have seen it. Back then, I would have just thought,
- 48:03Speaker 3: I'm not going to waste my time on this. But
- 48:05Speaker 3: now I realized I was wrong. A lot of direct
- 48:08Speaker 3: to video action films fucking rule, and they're just an
- 48:13Speaker 3: excuse to have, you know, action seems like they don't
- 48:16Speaker 3: make anymore you know, stunts, non stop fights, and I
- 48:21Speaker 3: can really really appreciate it here. And you're right, there's
- 48:24Speaker 3: not a lot of movie there's not a lot of story.
- 48:28Speaker 3: The character of Vice Man Chambers. You know, he went
- 48:31Speaker 3: to jail in the first movie for being accused of
- 48:34Speaker 3: sexual assaults rape. I don't remember what they said there.
- 48:38Speaker 3: And this time he's broken Russia, and the Russians kind
- 48:42Speaker 3: of fake a drug bust to get him in there
- 48:45Speaker 3: so that he could fight Poika, which is ridiculous. It's
- 48:49Speaker 3: it's but this movie is like the right kind of
- 48:52Speaker 3: stupid for me to enjoy. So yeah, I definitely, you
- 48:57Speaker 3: know if I kind I kind of feel bad that
- 48:59Speaker 3: I missed on a lot of cool stuff like this
- 49:01Speaker 3: because I was, like, you know, I believe in the
- 49:05Speaker 3: theatrical releases for film. Yeah, So a question for you, Well, firstly, say,
- 49:14Speaker 3: Scott Adkins uses MMA to fight Michael J. Michael J.
- 49:19Speaker 3: White used traditional boxing, and he has to learn to
- 49:22Speaker 3: adapt after the first fight that goes wrong. So, now,
- 49:26Speaker 3: is this movie secretly about the waning popularity of boxing
- 49:29Speaker 3: versus UFC. Do you think do you think this is
- 49:31Speaker 3: what what's the heart of this?
- 49:33Speaker 2: You can make an argument. I don't think it's necessarily that,
- 49:36Speaker 2: but you can doesnite make an argument for it. That's
- 49:38Speaker 2: right around the time where we start hearing those whispers.
- 49:41Speaker 2: You know, six o seven was you had a lot
- 49:44Speaker 2: of big UFC stars and they were trying to take
- 49:47Speaker 2: over boxing. Boxing is going through some weird stuff, So yeah,
- 49:51Speaker 2: you can make an argument by just think more and
- 49:53Speaker 2: more is to be honest with you, people like fighting.
- 49:58Speaker 2: They like combat, so whenever they combat, people will watching
- 50:01Speaker 2: tune in. That's always how it goes. There's no way
- 50:04Speaker 2: around that. When you have people fighting, people tune in. Now.
- 50:08Speaker 2: People have fallen in love with UFC like they love
- 50:11Speaker 2: UFC people for whatever reason. Again, teach his own not
- 50:16Speaker 2: my thing personally, but teach his own. People enjoy it.
- 50:22Speaker 2: With that being said, boxing back in the day, when
- 50:27Speaker 2: guys maybe weren't so technical, but maybe brought it out
- 50:32Speaker 2: a little bit more than they should have. People fell
- 50:34Speaker 2: in love with the sport then, so when they have
- 50:37Speaker 2: what we have now, they don't know how to quite
- 50:39Speaker 2: react to it. UFC has a lot more action in
- 50:42Speaker 2: it and there's more chaos in it. So that's why
- 50:45Speaker 2: the average person who's not a fan fan of either
- 50:48Speaker 2: gravitates towards that rather than boxing. But it's just how
- 50:51Speaker 2: it goes.
- 50:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm the weird guy who really likes the technical
- 50:56Speaker 3: aspects and even when a fight starts slow, I really
- 50:59Speaker 3: love watching the fighters kind of download information, kind of
- 51:02Speaker 3: like try to do jab up top jaba bottom adapt.
- 51:04Speaker 3: I think that that's cool as hell. But yeah, you know,
- 51:08Speaker 3: I'm I'm the weird one.
- 51:09Speaker 2: You know.
- 51:09Speaker 3: People people want to see, you know, action pack fights,
- 51:13Speaker 3: and I do. I do understand. I do understand the
- 51:16Speaker 3: appeal of UFC. For some reason, like you, I just
- 51:19Speaker 3: never got into it. I don't know, it just doesn't
- 51:21Speaker 3: for me. Yeah. So UFC has been around since like
- 51:26Speaker 3: the early nineties, but I don't remember hearing about it
- 51:28Speaker 3: in the nineties.
- 51:29Speaker 2: Awl the two thousands, but I don't remember hearing about
- 51:32Speaker 2: the nineties either.
- 51:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's what I kind of want to ask,
- 51:35Speaker 3: is like, what do you remember? I think I want
- 51:37Speaker 3: to say that I remember really hearing about it and
- 51:39Speaker 3: realizing that it's a thing. Let's say about let's say
- 51:41Speaker 3: like fifteen years ago, which even might have been late.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Maybe I was off the not in the loop.
- 51:46Speaker 2: But what do you.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Remember hearing the UFC was not just the thing that existed,
- 51:50Speaker 3: but the thing that people were really gravitating towards.
- 51:52Speaker 2: I remember hearing about it in the right when I've
- 51:58Speaker 2: seen your high school. I remember hearing about it, like
- 52:01Speaker 2: Tito Ortez and guy you heard the name that I
- 52:04Speaker 2: didn't know. It's like Chuck the Dale. I remember hearing
- 52:07Speaker 2: the names, but I didn't know much about it because
- 52:09Speaker 2: it wasn't my thing. I was always in the boxing,
- 52:11Speaker 2: so I didn't know all. With that being said, it's
- 52:14Speaker 2: one of those things to where it gravitated very quickly
- 52:19Speaker 2: and the type of person it attracted was very interesting.
- 52:22Speaker 2: So it attracted the person that may not play any
- 52:26Speaker 2: of the sport, but they like this one so much.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Here they go. So that's what it signified to me personally.
- 52:33Speaker 3: Okay, okay, well in this movie, I really the message
- 52:38Speaker 3: is you're not good enough just with regular fist boxing.
- 52:41Speaker 3: You have to adapt, you know. Michael J. White has
- 52:44Speaker 3: to learn how to do that. And that's a little
- 52:46Speaker 3: that's a little heartbreaking for me, you know, because it
- 52:48Speaker 3: just kind of it's like I'm not gonna say it's
- 52:51Speaker 3: spitting into my face, but it just kind of it's
- 52:53Speaker 3: noting its nose. I'll say that at my love of boxing,
- 52:57Speaker 3: and also, you know, personal grudge of the fact that
- 53:00Speaker 3: I'm not flexible and they can't kick for shit, they
- 53:02Speaker 3: take a boxing lessons. You know, I've thrown hands, but
- 53:05Speaker 3: never actually try to throw a kick. So it's so.
- 53:09Speaker 2: You would need to do pilates first. You would need
- 53:11Speaker 2: to increase your flexibility and do that first before you
- 53:15Speaker 2: got the kickboxing or anything like that because we're so
- 53:18Speaker 2: old and our joints don't work that way. You got
- 53:21Speaker 2: to activate all that stuff first for you go into kickboxing.
- 53:24Speaker 2: If you went to be kickboxing or jiu jitsu or
- 53:26Speaker 2: anything like that, you would harm yourself because that those
- 53:29Speaker 2: muscles ain't been getting used.
- 53:32Speaker 3: There's a lot of muscles that haven't gotten.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Used in the last couple of years.
- 53:34Speaker 3: But let's not talk about that. But yeah, I mean,
- 53:38Speaker 3: I think what I really liked about this movie is that,
- 53:41Speaker 3: like I said, both Michael J. White and Scott Atkins
- 53:43Speaker 3: are trained martial artists, and it always looks cooler when
- 53:47Speaker 3: you have guys that really have training and know how
- 53:50Speaker 3: to fight, as opposed to I don't know, let's teach uh,
- 53:53Speaker 3: let's teach Brad Pitt and Matt Damon how to box
- 53:55Speaker 3: and you show him hitting the heavy bag and the
- 53:57Speaker 3: little shit right, no, no shade. You know they're doing
- 54:00Speaker 3: what they got to do, and I'm sure they work hard,
- 54:02Speaker 3: but it's never the same, never the same as just
- 54:04Speaker 3: watching a guy that you know knows how to work
- 54:07Speaker 3: the pads. Uh, and even the choreography here, you know,
- 54:10Speaker 3: it's it's awesome and it's brutal. This movie was bloody,
- 54:14Speaker 3: Like there's a lot of dude blood.
- 54:17Speaker 2: A lot of blood, a lot of gory scenes. I mean,
- 54:19Speaker 2: they have my guy out there cleaning the the the
- 54:25Speaker 2: you know the guy. Yeah, let's put it that way. Yeah.
- 54:28Speaker 2: So but at the end of the day, though, I mean,
- 54:32Speaker 2: the movie was what it was. Can't take it too seriously.
- 54:36Speaker 2: Weird storyline where it basically got plented drugs or whatever
- 54:38Speaker 2: on and then they buzzed them and it's just it's whatever.
- 54:42Speaker 2: But the fighting was what it was. It was a
- 54:44Speaker 2: lot of fighting. But yeah, it's not I don't remember
- 54:47Speaker 2: it in the theater, I'll put it that way.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Well, it didn't come out, didn't come out in theaters.
- 54:51Speaker 3: The first one came out in theaters.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Yeah, this one straight, Yeah, this happened because they're watching
- 54:56Speaker 2: it like, yeah, this was like so, you know, you
- 54:58Speaker 2: can watch a movie like one point five or two speed.
- 55:01Speaker 2: This was a two speed movie.
- 55:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah you can. You can watch it
- 55:07Speaker 3: and like during the talky talk parts if you're doing
- 55:09Speaker 3: something else or texting, and you know, there's not a
- 55:13Speaker 3: complicated plot to follow, folks.
- 55:15Speaker 2: This movie for me was done like a thirty seven
- 55:17Speaker 2: minute I basically it was two speed fall fall fall along.
- 55:21Speaker 2: Oh okay, that's what happened. Okay, this was go I'm doing.
- 55:24Speaker 2: This is what happened against Jackets everybody, you know, Okay,
- 55:27Speaker 2: he helped him out when he was awesome. Oh so
- 55:28Speaker 2: it was good. It was had some parts in it, yeah,
- 55:30Speaker 2: some part but it was kind of like you said,
- 55:32Speaker 2: it was a straight to blockbuster. You know, we old
- 55:34Speaker 2: so back then this wasn't a blockbuster, but yeah, it's
- 55:37Speaker 2: straight to blockbuster movie.
- 55:39Speaker 3: And you know, like I said, I'm realizing now that, uh,
- 55:42Speaker 3: you know, because I watched a lot of great films
- 55:44Speaker 3: over the years, and when I was younger, in my
- 55:46Speaker 3: teenage years, discovering things, you know, Seven to the Lembs
- 55:49Speaker 3: and you know, Citizen Kme blah blah blah. But now
- 55:51Speaker 3: that I'm older, I'm like, you know, John Claude, man,
- 55:54Speaker 3: damn movies were actually fucking awesome, Like all that ridiculous,
- 55:58Speaker 3: you know, NonStop action. And another thing I always go
- 56:02Speaker 3: back to with films is that this is from an
- 56:04Speaker 3: era that we've lost. A lot of this stuff is CGI.
- 56:07Speaker 3: You know, there's a lot of green screen, there's not
- 56:10Speaker 3: a lot of real sets, even a lot of a
- 56:12Speaker 3: lot of stunts when you know, dudes used to actually
- 56:15Speaker 3: get thrown out of windows. Now it's like a CGI
- 56:18Speaker 3: body falling, you know, from building. And I understand kind
- 56:22Speaker 3: of the same thing. I understand that you want to
- 56:24Speaker 3: make this thing safer, but I feel like action movies
- 56:28Speaker 3: like boxing, like skydiving shouldn't be that safe. I think
- 56:33Speaker 3: there should be an element of danger where dudes are,
- 56:35Speaker 3: you know, jumping off of buses and off of helicopters
- 56:39Speaker 3: and blah blah blah. And that's just what it's always
- 56:41Speaker 3: got to be. And this movie, really it holds up
- 56:46Speaker 3: better than I imagine it would op when I was in
- 56:48Speaker 3: my twenties. And it's just fun, you know, watching these
- 56:52Speaker 3: guys trained martial artists kick ass and have these amazing
- 56:56Speaker 3: you know Corey Gap fight moves. It's a lot of fun.
- 56:59Speaker 3: And it's it's from it's from a bygun era. I
- 57:03Speaker 3: hate that I'm the grampy. Now that's like back in
- 57:05Speaker 3: my day trudo movies like they used to.
- 57:07Speaker 2: But they really don't.
- 57:08Speaker 3: I'm sorry, they just really really don't. So what what
- 57:12Speaker 3: do you?
- 57:12Speaker 2: What do you write?
- 57:13Speaker 3: This? Out of four gloves?
- 57:13Speaker 2: Jamison two point seven five. I could be convinced him
- 57:18Speaker 2: of three, but two point seven five I had his
- 57:20Speaker 2: min I said, the movie had its moments. It wasn't great,
- 57:23Speaker 2: but it had its moments. The fight things were cool,
- 57:25Speaker 2: they were what they were. The acting was what it was.
- 57:28Speaker 2: There was some capassion, there was some some villain moments.
- 57:32Speaker 2: So I would say at two point seven.
- 57:34Speaker 3: Five, I I'm the other way. I could be convinced
- 57:37Speaker 3: three point two five, but I'll go three out of
- 57:39Speaker 3: four for mine. I do like I like both of
- 57:42Speaker 3: these guys. You know, Michael J. White just doesn't have
- 57:45Speaker 3: the uh the acting range of the big raims, but
- 57:48Speaker 3: he's good, you know, he's he's got some good moments.
- 57:51Speaker 3: He can be very funny. If y'all want to see
- 57:55Speaker 3: some more awesome direct to video movies with him in
- 57:59Speaker 3: Scott Atkins Triple Threat is amazing, got both of these
- 58:02Speaker 3: guys in it. It's got Tony Jah's got Eco aways
- 58:05Speaker 3: from the Raid. Uh Scott Atkins movie Ninja two, Shadow
- 58:09Speaker 3: of the Tier. I've actually read online that the first
- 58:12Speaker 3: Ninja Ninja one is not that great, so skip to
- 58:15Speaker 3: the second one. Amazing, great fight scenes, NonStop action. You
- 58:19Speaker 3: will not be lost after if you skip the first one.
- 58:22Speaker 3: So check these guys out. Definitely support our action superstars
- 58:28Speaker 3: that are kind of just relegated to DVD only, or
- 58:33Speaker 3: I guess that would be direct to streaming, is what
- 58:34Speaker 3: it is. We're so old we're still thinking about direct
- 58:37Speaker 3: a blockbuster, but that's it went direct to Blu ray
- 58:42Speaker 3: and then directed streaming since we were kids, right right, Well,
- 58:46Speaker 3: that's gonna do it. For today's show, Jamison, where can
- 58:48Speaker 3: people find you on social media?
- 58:50Speaker 2: At the Jamison on Twitter? Find me on there. You know,
- 58:54Speaker 2: love talking boxing and boxing. I get they shit together, man.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Everyone else is they can't be last in a party
- 59:00Speaker 2: because sometimes there won't be a party to go to.
- 59:01Speaker 2: So hopefully the powers that be all come together for
- 59:04Speaker 2: the greater good and get this streaming situation figured out.
- 59:08Speaker 2: Whereab I can go to one place for all the.
- 59:11Speaker 3: Fights one hundred percent percent. Yeah, we're uh, we're in
- 59:16Speaker 3: the need for great fights. After the Canela Crawford because
- 59:19Speaker 3: we don't we don't want there to be dead air
- 59:21Speaker 3: after that.
- 59:22Speaker 2: You can keep pushing it. We need you, Chris Stevens
- 59:24Speaker 2: to fight, and we need all the all the guys
- 59:26Speaker 2: that have a name, they're undefeated, they're young, all those
- 59:30Speaker 2: guys got to keep fighting, man, You got to keep
- 59:31Speaker 2: that fire burn. You gotta keep being active. Guys shouldn't
- 59:35Speaker 2: be off less they're hurt. Guys shouldn't be off more
- 59:37Speaker 2: than four months. Man, I'm sorry. Guys got ninety days
- 59:40Speaker 2: get back on track, and you should be fighting that
- 59:43Speaker 2: in that next thirty day window. And that's what's my opinion.
