- 0:51Speaker 2: Hi, Catherine.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Hi, Chelsea. I have a new member in our family.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Watch out.
- 0:56Speaker 3: There she goes.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Incredible.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Dougie came over to protect her. Dougie, was that a
- 1:00Speaker 1: protective move? I have added to my family.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Everyone, I've given birth. Her name is Denise.
- 1:07Speaker 2: When I saw her, I just like gasped.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It is a live mashed potato. She is not real.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I can't even believe it. It's like what you fantasize
- 1:15Speaker 1: about when you're a little girl and you want a puppy.
- 1:18Speaker 1: She is so perfect and she already fits in nicely.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I slept for about 12 hours yesterday and guess who
- 1:23Speaker 1: slept by my side? And then she was on my
- 1:25Speaker 1: chest at one point. I'm like, how long is this
- 1:27Speaker 1: going to last? I better enjoy it.
- 1:29Speaker 2: It just like, it makes your heart swell three sizes.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Like it's just, it's just the best when they snuggle
- 1:34Speaker 2: with you.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Oh my God. She's so delicious. She is an angel.
- 1:37Speaker 5: I know.
- 1:37Speaker 6: And she's like a nice, perfect creamy color.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Dogs all black. They coordinate so nicely.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I just think from all of my dogs, I must
- 1:45Speaker 1: have good dog karma because look at this.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Look what I'm bringing to the table. And she's very
- 1:49Speaker 3: chill for a puppy.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Well, she's chill.
- 1:51Speaker 1: She can play or she can relax, which are two
- 1:53Speaker 1: of my favorite qualities. You need to be able to
- 1:55Speaker 1: get down to business and then shut the fuck up.
- 1:57Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 1:58Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'll be in Spokane this weekend. Spokane and Boise. Boise's
- 2:01Speaker 1: Friday night. Spokane is Saturday night.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I'm on my last... No, no.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Oh, she's trying to eat our computer. Yeah, she does
- 2:12Speaker 1: try to eat some things, but that's the least.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Of my worries.
- 2:14Speaker 1: She can eat a book if she wants. I have
- 2:17Speaker 1: enough books to go around.
- 2:18Speaker 4: She's so cute.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Now, can we just take that from I'm on my
- 2:21Speaker 2: last leg?
- 2:22Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yes. Yes. I'm on my last leg, everybody. It's a wrap.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Come see me on tour before I film my next
- 2:28Speaker 1: Netflix special, which I'm filming in December. I hope to
- 2:32Speaker 1: see you in the great state of Texas if you're there.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I hope everybody's getting ready for the midterms, no matter
- 2:37Speaker 1: what you hear or reading about. Fucking vote. This is
- 2:41Speaker 1: the most important election of your lifetimes. We've heard this before,
- 2:45Speaker 1: and it just keeps getting more and more important.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So make sure you are registered and that you go
- 2:50Speaker 1: in person because now there are people stealing ballots out
- 2:52Speaker 1: of mailboxes.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Yeah, and like who knows when the mail-in ballots will
- 2:56Speaker 6: actually arrive, be counted.
- 2:57Speaker 7: Right.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So if you can go, please go on Election Day,
- 3:00Speaker 1: November 3rd. And we have a special guest today. You
- 3:05Speaker 1: know her from Mr. Mercedes, from Succession, and from Netflix
- 3:09Speaker 1: breakout hit, Nobody Wants This, now in its third season.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Please welcome Justine Luke. Hi, hearing you get set up
- 3:18Speaker 1: on your Zoom is very similar to every time I
- 3:22Speaker 1: have to get on a Zoom as well.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Oh, it was worse before you got on. It was like,
- 3:28Speaker 2: I just am. I don't know. I feel like I
- 3:30Speaker 2: shouldn't be this bad by this late in the game,
- 3:32Speaker 2: but I still am.
- 3:33Speaker 3: So I mean, you're 37. I'm 51.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So I have more of an excuse because I'm older.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But you're in the exact, I don't understand.
- 3:42Speaker 3: You're a digital native. I know, you're a digital native.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So yeah, you don't have an excuse really.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I was also dating somebody who was 37 who also
- 3:51Speaker 1: didn't get tech.
- 3:52Speaker 3: So yeah.
- 3:53Speaker 1: So I guess it must be a younger age that
- 3:56Speaker 1: is the demarcation age of people who know how to
- 3:58Speaker 1: do things and people who don't.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Or it just has to do with what you do.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Like I'm sure that all these people with, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 2: like office jobs who have to use a computer every
- 4:07Speaker 2: day really understand it. But I'm like barely on a computer.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So for me, I just need help with like all
- 4:13Speaker 2: the things. I don't use the computer that much.
- 4:17Speaker 4: I know.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Don't you feel like we're going to be like a
- 4:20Speaker 1: lost generation? I don't even know if we're in the
- 4:24Speaker 1: same generation, but we're all going to get left behind.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that, aren't you?
- 4:31Speaker 2: I don't really want to be with my head suspended
- 4:34Speaker 2: in a different place for too long. I kind of
- 4:37Speaker 2: want to be on planet Earth. I feel like that's
- 4:39Speaker 2: the whole problem right now is everybody's brains are just
- 4:41Speaker 2: so tied into an imaginary place. space that it's like
- 4:45Speaker 2: hard to get anything done here on the ground. I
- 4:47Speaker 2: don't know.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I've chosen massive or I should say major escapism. I
- 4:53Speaker 1: have read more books in the last month than than
- 4:56Speaker 1: I've ever read in my life in that short a
- 4:58Speaker 1: period of time because I refuse to spend time reading
- 5:03Speaker 1: about what's happening. There's nothing I can do. So I've
- 5:06Speaker 1: decided to disengage and putting my phone away and reading
- 5:10Speaker 1: books reminds me of what it's like to be a kid,
- 5:13Speaker 1: like the escapism. I know you're reading The Correspondent.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I read that. That was a great fucking book. I
- 5:20Speaker 3: loved it. I read that in like two days. I
- 5:23Speaker 3: love that. I love the whole framework.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I like an older woman who's an interloper getting involved
- 5:29Speaker 1: in other people's business.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I like that.
- 5:32Speaker 1: That's exactly how I am. I like how nosy she was.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I like how fucking organized she was. And I like
- 5:39Speaker 1: that she had relationships with people of all different kind
- 5:42Speaker 1: of like walks of life.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I thought that was good.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Good. I did, too. And I like that you could understand, like,
- 5:48Speaker 2: why this person would be, like, insufferable to a lot
- 5:50Speaker 2: of people. Yes. And, like, why her daughter hates her or, like, feels, like,
- 5:57Speaker 2: so estranged. And yet, like, because you're, like, in her perspective,
- 6:01Speaker 2: you really have some empathy and sympathy and you understand, like,
- 6:05Speaker 2: kind of the loneliness that she's stuck in and the
- 6:07Speaker 2: trauma that has brought her there. I just thought it was, like,
- 6:11Speaker 2: really good. Really fun to read, really easy to go through,
- 6:14Speaker 2: and also kind of, like, heartbreaking, you know. Like, it's just, like,
- 6:17Speaker 2: horrible to, like, wrap your mind around, like, what this
- 6:20Speaker 2: poor woman went through with her son. And I don't know.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I just thought it was, like, such a sweet little
- 6:25Speaker 2: portrait of life, like a woman who's lived her life. Yeah.
- 6:29Speaker 3: And also a love story, a late in life love story.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I really appreciate because I think, I think the older we,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I know you just got married, but well, not just,
- 6:37Speaker 1: but this year, right?
- 6:38Speaker 3: You got married?
- 6:39Speaker 2: Last, not this last February, but the February before. So
- 6:41Speaker 2: it's fresh.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Yes.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Okay.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Congratulations.
- 6:44Speaker 1: It wasn't a, I thought it was a shotgun wedding,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but then I realized you had your baby there and
- 6:49Speaker 1: your dog at the wedding.
- 6:50Speaker 3: So what is that called?
- 6:52Speaker 2: It was like, it really could have been a shotgun wedding.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I mean, I didn't have my parents there. I had
- 6:56Speaker 2: no relatives there. It was what we call like a
- 6:58Speaker 2: cheap wedding. Like I just kind of wanted to like
- 7:01Speaker 2: get him on my health insurance. And so.
- 7:06Speaker 3: It's the opposite of your wedding in succession, basically.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Totally.
- 7:10Speaker 1: When I was doing research on you, I looked up there.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I can't find it, of course, now on my iPad.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I was just looking for it. But the description of
- 7:17Speaker 1: your character in succession is so funny.
- 7:20Speaker 3: It's like. She plays a woman who is not there
- 7:24Speaker 3: for traditional reasons.
- 7:26Speaker 2: That's a really generous way of describing her.
- 7:29Speaker 1: That's what I thought. I'm like, let's catapult into the
- 7:34Speaker 1: future and identify what this is called because there's definitely
- 7:38Speaker 1: a word for it.
- 7:39Speaker 2: It's like a work-for-hire situation.
- 7:41Speaker 3: A work-for-hire. How did your family react to not being
- 7:44Speaker 3: invited to your wedding? Were they upset?
- 7:46Speaker 2: They were totally sweet about it. They knew the kind
- 7:49Speaker 2: of you know, like you're constantly, I'm constantly dressed up.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I'm constantly like playing like people who have to wear
- 7:57Speaker 2: like a lot of hair and makeup and there's a
- 7:59Speaker 2: lot of pomp and circumstance. So like for us, it
- 8:01Speaker 2: was just, we already had a baby and it was
- 8:04Speaker 2: just like, let's go down to the courthouse, like take
- 8:06Speaker 2: care of this, like very cheaply. I'm sure my parents
- 8:08Speaker 2: like loved that because they didn't have to put a
- 8:11Speaker 2: dime into the whole thing. And then we just went
- 8:13Speaker 2: out to dinner with a bunch of friends. So it
- 8:15Speaker 2: was so casual that I don't feel like they felt
- 8:18Speaker 2: like they were missing out I feel like they actually
- 8:21Speaker 2: would have had more of a problem with like a
- 8:24Speaker 2: big like massive wedding I mean my brother's going through
- 8:27Speaker 2: that right now and I feel like that feels like
- 8:31Speaker 2: way more out of their comfort zone than like what
- 8:33Speaker 2: we did which was just like let's just like take
- 8:37Speaker 2: care of this on a on a Wednesday you know Yeah.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I like that.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I like that transactional, even though it's not trans, it
- 8:45Speaker 1: is transactional slightly, but I guess every wedding is kind
- 8:48Speaker 1: of transactional, but I would also, I would, I'm with you.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I don't need any more celebrations about myself. Like, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 1: I'm with you on that front.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I understand why women who don't have those days to
- 9:01Speaker 2: like really feel like the princess, like want that moment.
- 9:05Speaker 2: And I just don't have that desire at this point.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Right.
- 9:09Speaker 7: Right.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Speaking of desires, I want to talk about some of
- 9:13Speaker 1: your co-stars and who you have. The three I'm going
- 9:16Speaker 1: to mention, I want you to choose who you had
- 9:19Speaker 1: the biggest crush on before you worked with them. And
- 9:23Speaker 1: then also who you have the biggest crush on after
- 9:25Speaker 1: working with them, if any.
- 9:27Speaker 3: So it's between, I guess, Adam Brody. Okay.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So he's on your current show with you. Alan Ruck
- 9:34Speaker 1: or Kathy Bates.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Okay, so by far, I had the biggest crush on
- 9:44Speaker 2: Adam just because he was like, he was like injected
- 9:47Speaker 2: into my veins when I was like 15. So I
- 9:50Speaker 2: was like a very aware of him in the time
- 9:52Speaker 2: where that was like the thing, like boy crazy obsession.
- 9:56Speaker 3: I could just tell by the way you touched your
- 9:58Speaker 3: hair that that.
- 10:01Speaker 4: you back.
- 10:01Speaker 1: It brought you back to those days.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I see you.
- 10:05Speaker 2: And weirdly, I didn't even watch The O.C.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Regularly.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I just, like, knew about him as, like, a star.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Totally.
- 10:11Speaker 2: He's, like, exactly, like, my vibe. Like, I just think he's, like,
- 10:14Speaker 2: got that kind of, like, boyishness that, I mean, if
- 10:17Speaker 2: you look at my husband, you can see, like, oh,
- 10:19Speaker 2: she likes that kind of guy.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Right, right, right. And then I'd say afterwards, I'm deeply, like,
- 10:26Speaker 2: in a platonic relationship with Adam. I just feel like he's, like,
- 10:29Speaker 2: brotherly energy now that we work together. And he's, like,
- 10:33Speaker 2: just there's such proximity to him. I would have to go.
- 10:38Speaker 2: With Alan, maybe because Kathy just felt like this intimidating
- 10:42Speaker 2: presence who was like so wildly talented and like such
- 10:46Speaker 2: a like an icon. And so like, I guess I
- 10:50Speaker 2: just knew I knew her work so well, but I
- 10:52Speaker 2: never really felt like I got close to her. And
- 10:55Speaker 2: for me, intimacy is like something that I really need
- 10:57Speaker 2: to get like a crush on someone unless it's just
- 11:00Speaker 2: based on like pure attraction like I was with Adam.
- 11:04Speaker 2: So I would say Alan, I feel like after working
- 11:07Speaker 2: with him, I have a little bit of a I
- 11:09Speaker 2: would I would say he's the most crushable to me
- 11:11Speaker 2: just because we became like very, very close friends. And
- 11:15Speaker 2: and and he's so charming. And he's I have like
- 11:18Speaker 2: such a talent crush on him. I think he's like
- 11:20Speaker 2: makes the hardest stuff seem so easy. And he's kind
- 11:25Speaker 2: of he's just like because he's kind of had this like.
- 11:28Speaker 2: the blue collar version of a celebrity lifestyle, I guess,
- 11:32Speaker 2: like kind of just like working without like being this
- 11:34Speaker 2: like movie star guy. He's just like super grounded and
- 11:39Speaker 2: really normal and totally, I just really, I just love
- 11:42Speaker 2: being around him. He's great.
- 11:44Speaker 3: That's nice. That's a nice compliment.
- 11:47Speaker 1: What was it like going from a show like Succession
- 11:50Speaker 1: to Nobody Wants This?
- 11:53Speaker 2: It was a very different kind of joy. I think
- 11:55Speaker 2: also like both of them are tied to different parts
- 11:58Speaker 2: of my like times in my life succession. I was
- 12:00Speaker 2: in my 20s when I started and I ended at
- 12:03Speaker 2: like 32, I think, or 33. And and I was
- 12:07Speaker 2: like kind of virtually single through that time. I had
- 12:10Speaker 2: like a boyfriend, but I didn't have a kid. And
- 12:12Speaker 2: I like wasn't my boyfriend. It wasn't like like a
- 12:15Speaker 2: thing where I felt like I couldn't just like go
- 12:17Speaker 2: out and party and have fun. And so that cast
- 12:20Speaker 2: like we would be in croatia and we'd be in
- 12:22Speaker 2: italy and we'd be like jumping off of boats and
- 12:24Speaker 2: going swimming and then going out to dinner and it
- 12:26Speaker 2: was like the best material i'd ever worked on just
- 12:28Speaker 2: like really incredible writing with like really incredible actors where
- 12:32Speaker 2: i got to like stand back and just watch like
- 12:35Speaker 2: these kind of like powerhouse murderers row of actors just
- 12:39Speaker 2: like do the most remarkable work and then moving to
- 12:43Speaker 2: um nobody wants this i feel like the joy has
- 12:46Speaker 2: been that i get to like be on a um
- 12:50Speaker 2: a show that's got like levity and fun. And then
- 12:52Speaker 2: I'm working in LA and I get to like go
- 12:54Speaker 2: home to my baby and my husband and like be
- 12:57Speaker 2: done by like five or six and have like a
- 13:00Speaker 2: life that feels like it is normal to some degree.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I think Kristen like really protects the fact that like
- 13:09Speaker 2: everybody gets to have a life and not have to
- 13:12Speaker 2: be there for like 16 hour days. So It's just
- 13:15Speaker 2: like really been a gift to be able to like
- 13:18Speaker 2: drive home in 12 minutes and go to bed like
- 13:22Speaker 2: next to my husband and not be like on the
- 13:24Speaker 2: other side of the world working till like one in
- 13:26Speaker 2: the morning, you know?
- 13:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds like you got those jobs at the
- 13:30Speaker 1: perfect time, both of those jobs at the perfect times
- 13:33Speaker 1: in your life for those jobs.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Exactly. That's how I feel too.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really lucky.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Okay, so you have a baby. Let's talk about parenting.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Let's talk about the highs and lows of parenting. What
- 13:45Speaker 1: would you say is the most boring aspect of parenting?
- 13:50Speaker 2: I think the most boring.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I'm not one that, like, loves sitting around. So, like,
- 13:56Speaker 2: when we're just, like, home and she's just kind of, like,
- 13:58Speaker 2: we're just trying to keep the ball in the air, like.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It's pretty bad. It's, like, it's just deeply boring. And
- 14:08Speaker 2: I'd say part of, like, the other side of the
- 14:11Speaker 2: boring coin is kind of speaks to what you were
- 14:14Speaker 2: talking about. It's, like, it's a great escapism because you're just, like,
- 14:17Speaker 2: putting your brain into things that, like, kids put their
- 14:20Speaker 2: brain into.
- 14:21Speaker 3: So, like.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I'm going to like a music class and I'm just
- 14:24Speaker 2: like listening to like lively music and watching like children
- 14:27Speaker 2: like clap and dance. And I'm like reading a children's
- 14:32Speaker 2: story and I'm going to a playground and like putting
- 14:35Speaker 2: my head into like that kind of, it's just like
- 14:37Speaker 2: a very sweet spot to put your brain into like
- 14:41Speaker 2: in a very dark time. And that's kind of like
- 14:44Speaker 2: a reprieve that I'm finding. And it was like, it
- 14:46Speaker 2: was kind of a surprising, a surprising thing that I
- 14:49Speaker 2: found where I was like, oh, okay, this is like,
- 14:51Speaker 2: is not necessarily like where I wouldn't be putting my time,
- 14:55Speaker 2: but like, I love that, that these things have such
- 14:58Speaker 2: like gentleness and like sweetness to them. And I get
- 15:02Speaker 2: to like put my brain here a lot of the time,
- 15:05Speaker 2: you know?
- 15:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 3: It's, it's fun to see kids brains light up too.
- 15:10Speaker 1: And like watch their development process in those environments, especially
- 15:14Speaker 1: when there's multiple children, it feeds your soul in the
- 15:17Speaker 1: right way. Not that I'm at those classes very often, but.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It's like such a small moment, but it bores the
- 15:24Speaker 2: fuck out of me. And I just hate it is
- 15:26Speaker 2: like the process of getting out the door and like
- 15:29Speaker 2: putting her into a car and putting on her shoes
- 15:32Speaker 2: and like getting all the shit that you need to
- 15:34Speaker 2: get to get out the door. Like I'm such a
- 15:36Speaker 2: type B person as a person. And so like trying
- 15:40Speaker 2: to like get all the things that you could think
- 15:43Speaker 2: of to put in a bag to bring with you
- 15:44Speaker 2: every time you go out and like Getting her prepared.
- 15:47Speaker 2: And then, like, something about putting a baby in a
- 15:50Speaker 2: car seat is just, like, the worst. Like, I don't
- 15:53Speaker 2: know why it, like, bothers me so much. But it's just, like,
- 15:56Speaker 2: such a bore and so lame. And, like, all the
- 15:58Speaker 2: little clicking things and the arranging around her body. And, like,
- 16:02Speaker 2: it just is laborious and probably, like, my least favorite.
- 16:05Speaker 2: favorite part of being a parent, truly.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Whenever I'm skiing, I ski a lot in the winter.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Whenever I'm skiing and I see a two or three
- 16:12Speaker 1: year old on the slopes wrapped up in all that
- 16:15Speaker 1: fucking shit that they have to put, they have to
- 16:17Speaker 1: put baby ski boots.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It's hard to get a ski boot.
- 16:21Speaker 1: On if you're an adult and you have control and
- 16:23Speaker 1: mobility over your body. Imagine putting ski boots on a
- 16:27Speaker 1: baby and then wrapping them up in like three layers
- 16:30Speaker 1: of clothing and then carrying their little two by four
- 16:33Speaker 1: skis around And I mean, every time I see parents
- 16:37Speaker 1: skiing with their kids, I'm like, you're a fucking hero.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I'm like, why? Like, don't do it. Just like, just wait.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Don't do that.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Just like, why?
- 16:45Speaker 2: I mean, even like we've gone on a couple trips
- 16:48Speaker 2: and I'm like, we are not doing this unless it's
- 16:51Speaker 2: absolutely necessary. I'm like never doing this again. It's just
- 16:55Speaker 2: not worth it. Like this whole, like getting things ready
- 16:58Speaker 2: and packing them up and putting things on and taking
- 17:00Speaker 2: everything out and putting it. It's just like, I just
- 17:03Speaker 2: decided it's a no for me. Like, unless it's like 100%
- 17:07Speaker 2: we're doing it. Like vacations are just like, we're not
- 17:09Speaker 2: doing it for a while. I'm not interested. I'm not
- 17:12Speaker 2: interested in all the stuff that you described. Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I hear you. I hear you. Definitely.
- 17:25Speaker 1: So you based your character on Sarah, right? Aaron created
- 17:30Speaker 1: the show, and it's based on Sarah. Did you do
- 17:32Speaker 1: Sarah watching research? I think I heard you talking about
- 17:34Speaker 1: that once.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I did.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Sarah Foster and Aaron Foster, the Foster sisters, for people listening.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I kind of, to say that it's
- 17:42Speaker 2: based off of Sarah, I feel like she's offended by that,
- 17:45Speaker 2: and I understand. I kind of, like, used her as, like,
- 17:48Speaker 2: a light approximation. Like, she's definitely... I like kind of
- 17:53Speaker 2: dug into their podcast. I listen, I've listened to every
- 17:56Speaker 2: single episode since I was cast and kind of like
- 17:59Speaker 2: went on a deep dive before that, just because I
- 18:01Speaker 2: knew it was semi-autobiographical and I was like, oh, I
- 18:03Speaker 2: can get some of the essence of who this person is.
- 18:07Speaker 2: I think Morgan is like less, she's a little bit
- 18:11Speaker 2: more sloppy than Sarah. Like, you know, Sarah, like Sarah's
- 18:14Speaker 2: like this kind of specimen. Like it's just like insane
- 18:19Speaker 2: what's happening with her. And I remember also I was
- 18:22Speaker 2: growing pregnant on the show while I was shooting it.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I just remember being like, well, my body has left
- 18:28Speaker 2: the doc. The Sarah Foster doc is back there and
- 18:30Speaker 2: my body is on a different plane. And I kind
- 18:34Speaker 2: of feel like that's the case with everything about her.
- 18:36Speaker 2: She just feels so presentable. And Morgan's got a little
- 18:39Speaker 2: bit of me, a little bit more me in there,
- 18:43Speaker 2: which is just a little bit more like loose and
- 18:46Speaker 2: a little bit more, I would just say sloppy, you know,
- 18:50Speaker 2: like a mess. She's a little bit more messy.
- 18:52Speaker 3: To clarify, Sarah is a mess.
- 18:54Speaker 1: She looks beautiful and she is gorgeous. And like you
- 18:58Speaker 1: look at her and she's like, it is really a
- 19:00Speaker 1: sight to behold. But she's also a hot mess.
- 19:03Speaker 3: I mean, she DM'd me.
- 19:04Speaker 1: This is so funny because my trainer just was talking
- 19:06Speaker 1: about her yesterday morning. He goes, Sarah texts me every
- 19:09Speaker 1: week and is like, are we going to train this week?
- 19:11Speaker 1: And he goes, I go, yeah, whatever days you want.
- 19:13Speaker 1: He goes, and then I never hear from her again.
- 19:15Speaker 1: And I go, that's so funny. She DM'd me or
- 19:18Speaker 1: texted me like weeks ago going, would you ever do
- 19:20Speaker 1: my podcast?
- 19:21Speaker 3: I go, absolutely. Absolutely. Of course.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I don't hear from her for three weeks. And then
- 19:26Speaker 1: she DMs me and goes, what about my podcast? I go,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I already said, I'll do it.
- 19:31Speaker 3: And I said, here's my assistant. I go, I'm not
- 19:33Speaker 3: pawning you off. Like I follow through on shit.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Like I'm very regimented about making sure I follow through,
- 19:38Speaker 1: especially in this town. And then I saw them at
- 19:41Speaker 1: the Netflix. I'm like, you're a hot mess. I'm like,
- 19:43Speaker 1: you asked me, like, I wouldn't do it.
- 19:46Speaker 3: I said, I'd do it. And I've never heard from
- 19:47Speaker 3: you since. She's like, what?
- 19:49Speaker 2: I've heard this and her texting that it's just like
- 19:51Speaker 2: the least consistent, just like drops off. I have friends
- 19:55Speaker 2: like that. And I, so I know what you're talking about.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I guess I just don't know her too well interpersonally.
- 20:00Speaker 2: So I'm just like seeing the like version of her
- 20:03Speaker 2: that is like presentable, you know, like we don't really.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Well, but that track, I like, I like. That's good
- 20:09Speaker 2: to know. Maybe there's more of a similarity between the
- 20:13Speaker 2: characters than I know.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Yeah, you can pick that habit up for your character.
- 20:17Speaker 1: You wrote an article about the best way to spend
- 20:19Speaker 1: time or to spend a Sunday in LA.
- 20:21Speaker 3: So I want to talk about that.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And what are the things in LA that everyone's doing
- 20:26Speaker 1: that you would never do? And I think we have
- 20:28Speaker 1: some insight to that from your talk about leaving the
- 20:31Speaker 1: house with your child.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Strapping a baby in the car.
- 20:33Speaker 1: But there's a lot of things like I, because I
- 20:34Speaker 1: struggle with LA a little bit in terms of atmosphere
- 20:39Speaker 1: like I feel like it's a little bit soulless and
- 20:42Speaker 1: it's like you really have to make things happen here
- 20:45Speaker 1: when you're in New York it's literally no problem wherever
- 20:48Speaker 1: you go has character or soul most of the time
- 20:51Speaker 1: I find but in LA I find it to be
- 20:53Speaker 1: a little bit like stunting I'm always like uh where
- 20:57Speaker 1: do you live I live in Brentwood which is part
- 20:59Speaker 1: of the problem yeah but now I can't leave because
- 21:02Speaker 1: I just built this house so I'm stuck here for
- 21:04Speaker 1: a while.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I mean, it's beautiful. It's beautiful. But I do feel
- 21:07Speaker 2: like I'm on east, east, east side of things, which
- 21:12Speaker 2: I do feel like has a little bit just a
- 21:14Speaker 2: tiny bit more of that on the table.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Maybe, you know.
- 21:19Speaker 2: But yes, I understand the feeling for sure. I think
- 21:21Speaker 2: that's why I've like gone further and further and further
- 21:24Speaker 2: away from like L.A. proper, I guess I would say.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Yesterday I went to pick up. This is a great
- 21:29Speaker 1: example of L.A., I went to go pick up my girlfriend.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I had sets last night at like the comedy store
- 21:34Speaker 1: and the improv. And I went to pick up my
- 21:36Speaker 1: girlfriend for early because we were going to dinner. She
- 21:38Speaker 1: lives in Mar Vista. It took me, and I live
- 21:41Speaker 1: in Brentwood. It's a 20 minute drive. It took me
- 21:44Speaker 1: one hour and 15 minutes. So I'm on the 10
- 21:47Speaker 1: and there's some nonsense happening, some accident or no, they
- 21:51Speaker 1: close off the freeway because it gets too packed. So
- 21:53Speaker 1: they close it off to create more. And so I
- 21:55Speaker 1: just give up. Like I'm laughing. I'm like, well, we'll
- 21:57Speaker 1: probably won't make.
- 21:58Speaker 4: It to dinner.
- 21:59Speaker 1: We'll make it to my sets. And then I was like,
- 22:01Speaker 1: let me do a social experiment. I was like, there's
- 22:04Speaker 1: like men on the shoulder. There's cars all over the
- 22:06Speaker 1: shoulder and people trying to get in because there was
- 22:08Speaker 1: a car stopped on the shoulder.
- 22:09Speaker 3: So it was misleading.
- 22:11Speaker 1: And then people are trying to get back in. And
- 22:12Speaker 1: I'm like, none of us are going anywhere. This is
- 22:14Speaker 1: a parking lot. I'm going to let people come in.
- 22:17Speaker 1: What else do I, who cares? Let's spread good vibrations.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So I waved to a man and I was like,
- 22:22Speaker 1: do you want to go in?
- 22:23Speaker 3: And he's like, what, what?
- 22:24Speaker 1: And I'm like, come on in, go in, go in
- 22:26Speaker 1: front of me. And he goes in, no thank you.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Just goes in, nothing, nothing. I do it to another
- 22:31Speaker 1: guy and no thank you, gets in front of me.
- 22:34Speaker 1: A third guy, I go, okay, third time's a charm.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Let's see if this guy says fucking thank you. He
- 22:40Speaker 1: gets in front of me and doesn't say thank you.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I go, okay, that's enough with the men. So I
- 22:44Speaker 1: look around for a woman. I look around for a
- 22:46Speaker 1: woman and I'm like, I see a woman. I'm like, hey,
- 22:48Speaker 1: do you want to get in front of me at
- 22:50Speaker 1: this point? The guy behind me is like, fucking stop
- 22:52Speaker 1: letting people in front of you.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 3: But I was like, you know, none of us are
- 22:56Speaker 3: going to do it.
- 22:56Speaker 5: I know.
- 22:57Speaker 3: I was like, let's try it. Make this fun. And anyway,
- 23:00Speaker 3: and then the woman's like, thank you so much. And
- 23:02Speaker 3: I was like, oh, God. I mean, it's unreal.
- 23:04Speaker 2: It's just a wave.
- 23:04Speaker 3: It's just unreal. He didn't say thank you.
- 23:08Speaker 1: But when my friends were asking, we were away, and
- 23:11Speaker 1: my friends were asking what the biggest, they were asking
- 23:14Speaker 1: my assistant what the biggest acclimation to L.A.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Was.
- 23:17Speaker 3: And he was like, traffic. Traffic.
- 23:20Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, yeah, because we're so used
- 23:21Speaker 1: to it that you don't even think about it.
- 23:24Speaker 3: But it's absolutely absurd. It's just so.
- 23:27Speaker 2: It's bad. It's bad to the point where I'm like,
- 23:30Speaker 2: I'm like scrambling because, you know, all the doctors are
- 23:33Speaker 2: in Beverly Hills and I'm all the way in Eagle Rock.
- 23:35Speaker 2: And I'm like, just I'm like, I guess like the
- 23:37Speaker 2: great experiment of my life or the great thing that
- 23:39Speaker 2: I'm like, like the constant question is like, who are there?
- 23:42Speaker 2: Is there anyone else? Like, is there any other way?
- 23:44Speaker 2: I just like don't want to drive over there anymore. Yeah.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Like I'm so done with the like cross track, like
- 23:52Speaker 2: cross town trek to go see doctors, especially like when
- 23:55Speaker 2: I was pregnant and you're at the last like stretch
- 23:57Speaker 2: and you have to go back like every single day
- 24:00Speaker 2: at the very end. And I was just like, this
- 24:01Speaker 2: is torture. Like just being like a pregnant woman in
- 24:04Speaker 2: a car, like for two hours every day, at least
- 24:08Speaker 2: two hours, like an hour there, an hour back just
- 24:10Speaker 2: to get to a doctor's office. Like this is so dumb.
- 24:13Speaker 7: I hate it.
- 24:13Speaker 5: I know.
- 24:13Speaker 1: It's so funny that they don't have doctor's office spread
- 24:16Speaker 1: out throughout the city.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Not really.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I should actually just move into a medical building. That
- 24:20Speaker 1: would make my life a lot easier.
- 24:21Speaker 3: You're pretty close, right? And I'm not even pregnant.
- 24:23Speaker 2: You're pretty close.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I am close. I am close. In the daytime, it's easy.
- 24:26Speaker 1: But at nighttime, if I have dinner, tonight I have
- 24:28Speaker 1: a dinner at 7.30 and I have an appointment at
- 24:30Speaker 1: 4.30 and I'm like, why better just.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Stay on that side of town?
- 24:33Speaker 2: Yeah, really.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Because it's going to be a hot mess. But what
- 24:36Speaker 1: are your favorite things to do in LA? Like talk
- 24:38Speaker 1: more about that. What are some of like the highlights
- 24:41Speaker 1: that you would make sure you do when you have
- 24:43Speaker 1: somebody in town or recommend to people?
- 24:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say Olympic spa. is one of my
- 24:49Speaker 2: favorite places. I love like a full day at Olympic Spa,
- 24:53Speaker 2: just like basically just soaking, getting my body scrubbed, feeling
- 24:59Speaker 2: like I'm just like being manhandled by the masseuses. I
- 25:02Speaker 2: don't know if you've ever been to like a Korean
- 25:03Speaker 2: spa experience, but it's just like amazing. They like kind
- 25:05Speaker 2: of just like flip you around and scrub you and
- 25:07Speaker 2: like you don't, you feel like a piece of me
- 25:09Speaker 2: and it's kind of like this like amazing experience and
- 25:12Speaker 2: it feels like so singularly LA.
- 25:14Speaker 3: I feel like.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Food. There's really good food. I feel like there's good
- 25:20Speaker 2: sushi here. So I would like if you're into sushi,
- 25:22Speaker 2: maybe do some like sushi in Studio City. I mean,
- 25:25Speaker 2: it's so hard now because I'm I'm like all the
- 25:28Speaker 2: things that I used to do, like I don't do
- 25:31Speaker 2: as much anymore, like go to movies and go on
- 25:33Speaker 2: walks and go on like hikes and stuff. I like
- 25:36Speaker 2: it's just not. As like now my whole life is
- 25:39Speaker 2: like we're going to the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- 25:42Speaker 2: for this like singing class or we're going to like
- 25:44Speaker 2: kids space, which is like an amazing children's museum or
- 25:47Speaker 2: we're going to, you know, like in the free time
- 25:49Speaker 2: that I have, we do so much her and I
- 25:52Speaker 2: together that it's hard. There's amazing museums in L.A. I
- 25:55Speaker 2: would say like. LACMA is pretty stellar. The Getty is amazing.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I feel like it's some of the best art in
- 26:02Speaker 2: the country is in LA.
- 26:03Speaker 3: So that would be- Have you been to the Broad? Yes,
- 26:06Speaker 3: I have been to the Broad. I love it.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I love that.
- 26:08Speaker 2: And Hammer is great.
- 26:10Speaker 1: It's funny that some of the things that people talk
- 26:12Speaker 1: about in LA are some of the most ridiculous activities,
- 26:15Speaker 1: like some of the tentpole things.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 2: What do you think of?
- 26:19Speaker 1: I'm thinking of like the Magic Castle and the tarp
- 26:22Speaker 1: and like the Brea Tar Pits. Like People do these
- 26:25Speaker 1: things when they come here and you're like, what are
- 26:28Speaker 1: you doing?
- 26:29Speaker 3: Like people talk, there are people that take, is it,
- 26:32Speaker 3: what's it called? Medieval castle?
- 26:33Speaker 2: Magic castle.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Okay.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Matt, people talk about that.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I mean, I remember being 19 years old when I
- 26:40Speaker 1: moved to LA and someone taking me there. And me
- 26:42Speaker 1: just seeing like the decor and I was like, no,
- 26:46Speaker 1: this is not happening at all.
- 26:48Speaker 2: No, I'd heard about it for years and years and years.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Everybody talks about it. It's like, and also they make
- 26:52Speaker 2: it seem like it's like this like really special place.
- 26:54Speaker 2: You've got to get like a connection to get in
- 26:57Speaker 2: to go there. And then I went there one time
- 27:00Speaker 2: and I thought it was going to be like, I
- 27:01Speaker 2: treated like four people. I was like, let's go. Like,
- 27:04Speaker 2: this is going to be amazing. Like it's the magic castle.
- 27:06Speaker 2: And I went there. And it's, like, all, like, icky feeling. Like,
- 27:10Speaker 2: everything feels like it's sticky. Like a magician. A magician
- 27:14Speaker 2: during the daytime. That's what that place feels like. And
- 27:16Speaker 2: it's not even, like, I mean, our time that we went,
- 27:19Speaker 2: I just remember being, like, this is, like, I love magic.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I actually am, like, into magic. I've had.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
- 27:25Speaker 4: I know.
- 27:25Speaker 2: I'm a nerd. I... But like good magic. I'm like, great.
- 27:29Speaker 2: I'm in like I love a good magic show. I
- 27:31Speaker 2: thought that was like kind of mediocre pedestrian magic that
- 27:34Speaker 2: was kind of like, what are we doing? We spent
- 27:36Speaker 2: this much money and then we have to sit in
- 27:37Speaker 2: this like kind of gross restaurant and eat pretty bad food. Like,
- 27:42Speaker 2: it was just a weird experience for me. And I
- 27:45Speaker 2: feel like the people that I went with had fun
- 27:46Speaker 2: because they just, like, got drunk. Like, they just, like,
- 27:48Speaker 2: got drunk enough that they were like, this is a blackout.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Alcohol is a heavy component there. You have to get
- 27:52Speaker 3: drunk at that place. Do you like magicians? Like, do
- 27:55Speaker 3: you like David Copperfield and, like, those types of people?
- 27:58Speaker 3: I like a.
- 28:00Speaker 2: David Blaine kind of guy.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Okay.
- 28:02Speaker 2: The ones that just do like the crazy like street
- 28:05Speaker 2: magic where you're like, what the fuck? How did you
- 28:06Speaker 2: even do that? I do. I do kind of like
- 28:09Speaker 2: that kind of magic. I'm not as into like the
- 28:11Speaker 2: grandiose like I like street magic more than I like
- 28:14Speaker 2: the like, it's a magic show.
- 28:17Speaker 1: You know, I like that phrase or the term street magic.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess I haven't really realized.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know if it's an official. I
- 28:24Speaker 2: just made that. I just I just said it. But
- 28:26Speaker 2: you know what I'm talking about where it's like. They
- 28:28Speaker 2: just it's like it's like they're like kind of casual
- 28:30Speaker 2: guys that are just like want to see something crazy.
- 28:33Speaker 2: And it's like less of like the whole like magician.
- 28:36Speaker 3: OK, copy that.
- 28:41Speaker 1: How do you feel about Universal Studios and Disney World
- 28:46Speaker 1: or Land?
- 28:47Speaker 3: Are we in Land? We're in Land.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Love for kids. Loved it as a kid. not into
- 28:54Speaker 2: it as an adult. I think I would like, I
- 28:56Speaker 2: I'm waiting for the day that I get to bring
- 28:58Speaker 2: my daughter there just to see her excitement around it.
- 29:02Speaker 2: But when I've gone as an adult by myself, it
- 29:05Speaker 2: does not do it for me. It's too much of
- 29:08Speaker 2: a production. I feel like I just like, I'm so
- 29:11Speaker 2: tired by like hour three. So that's my, that's my
- 29:15Speaker 2: hot take. I have, I have a friend who literally
- 29:20Speaker 2: like his idea of a good time is, is to
- 29:22Speaker 2: like go there every weekend and like go on a walk,
- 29:25Speaker 2: like just go on a walk. Like he has one
- 29:27Speaker 2: of those passes and he's like, it's the best place
- 29:29Speaker 2: to go on a walk and like just loves Disneyland.
- 29:32Speaker 2: And I'm like, wow, that's not for me. Do you
- 29:34Speaker 2: like it? No, no.
- 29:36Speaker 3: And I also, as a child, did it. appreciate it either.
- 29:41Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 29:41Speaker 2: As a child, I loved it. I remember my parents,
- 29:48Speaker 2: I think I was maybe five, and we drove. I
- 29:53Speaker 2: remember them loading me into the car in the middle
- 29:55Speaker 2: of the night with a bunch of pillows and my
- 29:58Speaker 2: little brother, and they drove from Denver to LA and
- 30:03Speaker 2: we like stayed at Disneyland and we did the whole thing.
- 30:06Speaker 2: And I still remember just like being like, this is
- 30:09Speaker 2: the most amazing place. Like I remember the Peter Pan ride.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I remember Pirates of the Caribbean. Like I really, it
- 30:17Speaker 2: made an impact on me as like a kid. So
- 30:20Speaker 2: I was also just obsessed with Disney when I was
- 30:22Speaker 2: little though. So maybe that was part of it.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I mean, I think we all are obsessed with Disney
- 30:27Speaker 1: as a kid. That's what we grow up on. Everything
- 30:29Speaker 1: is Disney adjacent or related, right?
- 30:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 30:32Speaker 2: I mean, a lot of stuff.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:35Speaker 3: I remember just going and being like, what?
- 30:37Speaker 1: I just remember being disgusted by it.
- 30:41Speaker 3: What a shithole.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Just a shit show. I just thought, what a shit show.
- 30:45Speaker 1: You know what I thought? I thought, what a racket.
- 30:49Speaker 3: No, it is that.
- 30:49Speaker 1: And then I also had the thought, and I remember
- 30:52Speaker 1: because it was a very older person's thought, but I'm
- 30:54Speaker 1: the youngest of six kids, so I was older before
- 30:57Speaker 1: I was older.
- 30:57Speaker 3: I remember thinking, this dynamic is off. That's what I remember.
- 31:03Speaker 3: I remember thinking.
- 31:05Speaker 1: So tell me about working with Kristen and tell me,
- 31:07Speaker 1: has her biohacking rubbed off on you?
- 31:09Speaker 3: All her biohacking?
- 31:11Speaker 2: I know. Not really. I know. No, it hasn't really
- 31:16Speaker 2: rubbed off on me. I like I think prior to
- 31:19Speaker 2: meeting her, I already liked a cold plunge sauna situation.
- 31:22Speaker 2: So like that is kind of where it begins and
- 31:24Speaker 2: ends with me. Like the glucose monitor. I had like
- 31:28Speaker 2: a curiosity about it, but I like it was like
- 31:31Speaker 2: another one of those technology things where it's like all
- 31:34Speaker 2: the steps that you have to take to like get
- 31:35Speaker 2: this program and get it set up and get the
- 31:37Speaker 2: like the right setting where it's not for diabetes. It's
- 31:40Speaker 2: just a glucose thing.
- 31:42Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 31:42Speaker 2: It just felt hard for me. Again, technology.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Do you wear an aura ring?
- 31:46Speaker 4: No.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Uh-uh.
- 31:46Speaker 4: You?
- 31:50Speaker 1: No, but I had a guy I was dating give
- 31:52Speaker 1: me one Oura ring as he brought it for me.
- 31:55Speaker 1: And I gave it straight to Yamanika, my friend. I
- 31:57Speaker 1: was like, here's an Oura ring. I don't like obsessive behavior.
- 32:03Speaker 1: My brain, it doesn't go well with checking stats or
- 32:07Speaker 1: sleep scores or how many steps. I mean, steps are
- 32:10Speaker 1: fun once in a while. If I'm in the city,
- 32:12Speaker 1: I'll be like, oh, how many steps? Or if I'm
- 32:14Speaker 1: Walking a lot.
- 32:14Speaker 8: Okay.
- 32:15Speaker 1: That's fun to look at, but I know the way
- 32:18Speaker 1: I get and I become consumed. So it's better to
- 32:20Speaker 1: disengage from too much information for me.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Like I don't like the data. Yeah.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Cause you could go there. You can go there and
- 32:27Speaker 2: you're like, I don't want to go there. I don't
- 32:29Speaker 2: want to be that, that gal.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and I have other things to do. You know
- 32:33Speaker 3: what I mean? Like, I don't want to spend my
- 32:35Speaker 3: time doing that.
- 32:36Speaker 1: I already feel like I've been robbed of some of
- 32:39Speaker 1: my intelligence from social media and our reliance on that.
- 32:43Speaker 1: So I'm like really trying to take the power back.
- 32:46Speaker 1: But yes, I don't like monitoring sleep. I don't like,
- 32:48Speaker 1: you know, I don't, first of all, I don't want
- 32:49Speaker 1: to hear about anyone's sleep score, to be clear.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Like, I'm not interested.
- 32:54Speaker 1: That's great for you to monitor, but it becomes a
- 32:57Speaker 1: like competition with yourself.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 3: How much did I sleep? I didn't sleep.
- 33:01Speaker 1: And what are you going to fucking do about it anyway?
- 33:03Speaker 1: I guess alter your behavior, but I'm not really going
- 33:06Speaker 1: to alter any behaviors.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I imagine for me, it would, I would like, it
- 33:09Speaker 2: would create a little bit of like anxiety around like
- 33:11Speaker 2: what I need to do to create the best environment
- 33:13Speaker 2: to get the sleep.
- 33:14Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 33:15Speaker 2: It's just never gotten, it's never been something that I'm like, uh,
- 33:19Speaker 2: that interested. I think I'm interested in things that feel good.
- 33:23Speaker 2: So like, I like the cold plunge sauna thing. I like,
- 33:28Speaker 2: I mean, I like eating healthy because I just feel
- 33:30Speaker 2: better when I eat healthy. So like there's like things
- 33:32Speaker 2: that I do that are just like smart, but I
- 33:34Speaker 2: wouldn't call them like biohacking. I'm not into the peptide
- 33:38Speaker 2: thing yet.
- 33:39Speaker 6: Didn't you play like a bit of a biohacking based
- 33:41Speaker 6: prank on Kristen at some point?
- 33:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 33:43Speaker 2: So she's like because she's so obsessed with biohacking and
- 33:47Speaker 2: she does like every single thing. Like she's done the peptides.
- 33:50Speaker 2: She's done the like the glucose monitor. She's done She's
- 33:53Speaker 2: like obsessed with the cold plunge, the sauna, the I mean,
- 33:56Speaker 2: it's like anything that's like kind of on the table
- 33:58Speaker 2: she's interested in. So I was like, oh, what would
- 34:00Speaker 2: be like a funny, fun thing like that kind of
- 34:02Speaker 2: feels like one step away from like reality that someone
- 34:06Speaker 2: could do. And so like I spent like three months
- 34:09Speaker 2: convincing her that I was drinking my own urine as
- 34:12Speaker 2: a bit. Just because it was fun for me to
- 34:16Speaker 2: see how much she would buy in and how she
- 34:20Speaker 2: would respond. I never thought she would actually drink her
- 34:22Speaker 2: own pee, but I was like, how curious can I
- 34:24Speaker 2: get her about the benefits of this made-up thing? And
- 34:28Speaker 2: I created fake articles about it.
- 34:31Speaker 4: And.
- 34:34Speaker 3: I didn't know that part. I didn't know you created
- 34:36Speaker 3: fake articles.
- 34:37Speaker 2: I would like call a PA and like the PAs
- 34:39Speaker 2: were all in on it. And like, like pretty much
- 34:41Speaker 2: everybody was in on it but her, but I would
- 34:43Speaker 2: call a PA and be like, hey, can you grab
- 34:45Speaker 2: my water bottle from my trailer? And like full disclosure,
- 34:48Speaker 2: like I do feel like I should tell you if
- 34:49Speaker 2: you don't feel comfortable, there is like my own pee
- 34:51Speaker 2: in there. So like, if you don't want to bring
- 34:54Speaker 2: it to me, like I really understand. And she would like,
- 34:57Speaker 2: she'd be hearing all this. And so there was like
- 34:59Speaker 2: a whole like bit about it. And then it ended
- 35:01Speaker 2: with me bringing her six like large jars of chamomile
- 35:06Speaker 2: tea that I told her was like my best pee
- 35:08Speaker 2: that I had gotten ready for her. It was like
- 35:11Speaker 2: so dumb. The whole thing was so dumb, but I
- 35:13Speaker 2: was just like, this is fun. And it's, I don't know.
- 35:16Speaker 2: It was, it was, it was the only long game
- 35:19Speaker 2: prank I've ever played. And it was like a pretty
- 35:22Speaker 2: satisfying one.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:24Speaker 2: That's a good one.
- 35:25Speaker 3: That's fun. That's fun when you're on a set and
- 35:27Speaker 3: you can do stuff like that. That reminds me of, yeah.
- 35:31Speaker 3: I like that kind of nonsense.
- 35:32Speaker 2: I mean, it's like it sounds like you're like, wow,
- 35:35Speaker 2: you're a really committed actress that this is what you're
- 35:37Speaker 2: spending your time on set doing. But it was fun.
- 35:42Speaker 2: It was fun. And it's like a relaxed environment. So
- 35:45Speaker 2: it lent itself to stupid stuff.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds like an ideal situation and an ideal
- 35:50Speaker 1: job at the exact right time in your life.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Did you have a difficult pregnancy, by the way, or
- 35:55Speaker 3: was it easy?
- 35:57Speaker 2: The first trimester was really exhausting. I didn't have any nausea,
- 36:01Speaker 2: but I just felt like I had like what I
- 36:03Speaker 2: imagined mono was like. I just pretty much like canceled
- 36:06Speaker 2: everything and just like was flatlined for the whole thing.
- 36:10Speaker 2: And I luckily I wasn't working during that trimester. The
- 36:14Speaker 2: second trimester was amazing. And I did like the whole
- 36:17Speaker 2: first season during my second trimester, which was like the
- 36:20Speaker 2: best because you just have this like kind of like
- 36:24Speaker 2: renaissance after that terrible three months and you just feel great.
- 36:28Speaker 2: And you're like, I kind of feel like, I don't know.
- 36:30Speaker 2: I just really enjoyed that time. And then the end
- 36:33Speaker 2: of it, uh, is psychologically like for me, my body
- 36:38Speaker 2: felt okay with like a few exceptions of like some
- 36:40Speaker 2: sciatica that was like pretty crippling. Um, but by the
- 36:44Speaker 2: end of it, I was just like, I was just
- 36:47Speaker 2: so ready to get the baby out of me. Like
- 36:50Speaker 2: I was loose. I think that was like the hardest part.
- 36:53Speaker 2: stretch for me and my husband like I was just
- 36:55Speaker 2: like a miserable person and that was like crying all
- 36:58Speaker 2: the time just being like I'm done I'm over it's
- 37:00Speaker 2: over for me I'm like we've got to it's got
- 37:02Speaker 2: to happen now do.
- 37:04Speaker 3: You remember what your first drink was after you or
- 37:07Speaker 3: do you drink.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Uh I I do like a little bit I I
- 37:10Speaker 2: come from like a family of alcoholics so I try
- 37:14Speaker 2: not to drink much.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Wonderful I'm actually a first generation alcoholic in my family.
- 37:19Speaker 1: So I'm taking the tour. I'm creating a new lineage.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Thank you. It's the final frontier or the first frontier.
- 37:29Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Um, yeah, my parents didn't drink at all, but we
- 37:32Speaker 1: all drink except for my one sister.
- 37:35Speaker 3: She pretends to drink. She can't really handle it.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Wow.
- 37:37Speaker 2: You all drink and they didn't at all.
- 37:40Speaker 1: No, they didn't drink anything. I mean, my dad once
- 37:42Speaker 1: in a while, uh, But it's so, yeah, it's so funny.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Like people are like, oh, they assume our parents were
- 37:48Speaker 1: just heavy drinkers because we all like to party.
- 37:50Speaker 3: And we're like, no.
- 37:51Speaker 1: We were so bored in our childhood. We're like, let's
- 37:53Speaker 1: get the party started. When is the party start? Like
- 37:56Speaker 1: it was always just boring. I kind of, I know
- 37:59Speaker 1: I not to be, it's silly to be envious of
- 38:01Speaker 1: people who grew up with parents that were alcoholics. But
- 38:05Speaker 1: when every book, I don't know, have you ever read
- 38:07Speaker 1: Lily King? This author, Lily King, writers and lovers. Like
- 38:11Speaker 1: all of her books always have the, I'm reading one
- 38:13Speaker 1: of her books right now, Father of the Rain. And
- 38:16Speaker 1: all of her backdrops, somebody's an alcoholic because obviously she
- 38:19Speaker 1: grew up like that. And I'm, I just think it's so,
- 38:22Speaker 1: it's colorful to read about much more than I'm sure
- 38:25Speaker 1: to live it.
- 38:25Speaker 3: But as a reader, I'm always like, this sounds fun
- 38:28Speaker 3: and juicy.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Not, not as fun. Not as fun. But I mean,
- 38:34Speaker 2: even myself, I find when I was listening to, um,
- 38:37Speaker 2: I was just listening to a song by Casey Musgraves
- 38:44Speaker 2: and Zach Bryan or whatever his name is, this huge
- 38:48Speaker 2: country singer. It's about these two lovers that are wasted
- 38:51Speaker 2: all the time. They're wasted all the time and they're
- 38:54Speaker 2: talking about how they would just get drunk and you
- 38:56Speaker 2: only smile like that when you're drinking. And I was
- 38:58Speaker 2: just like, this is so hot.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Like, this dynamic.
- 39:03Speaker 2: I was like, I want to write a movie. I
- 39:04Speaker 2: want to be in a movie about this story. But
- 39:07Speaker 2: the reality of it is just, like, far more, like, just, like,
- 39:10Speaker 2: kind of, like, ugh, God. It's not that. It's not it. So, yeah, I, like,
- 39:16Speaker 2: I honestly, I don't remember what I drank after. I
- 39:20Speaker 2: also drank a little bit during my pregnancy. I would
- 39:23Speaker 2: have like a glass of wine here and there. And
- 39:25Speaker 2: I just like because it wasn't an issue for me,
- 39:27Speaker 2: I was just kind of like a little bit more
- 39:29Speaker 2: relaxed about it. I read a really great book by
- 39:33Speaker 2: Emily Oster, who's this like incredible. She like basically is
- 39:38Speaker 2: does like incredible research on pregnancy and and prenatal health
- 39:43Speaker 2: and all that stuff. And she was basically like one
- 39:45Speaker 2: glass of wine is fine. One glass of coffee is fine.
- 39:48Speaker 2: One is like. Pie and sushi, a little bit of
- 39:51Speaker 2: that is fine.
- 39:53Speaker 3: One glass of anything is fine, pretty much.
- 39:57Speaker 7: True, right?
- 39:58Speaker 1: I mean, what's going to happen? Unless, I guess, maybe
- 40:01Speaker 1: not fentanyl or something like that.
- 40:03Speaker 3: But you can't really. That's not really a glass anyway.
- 40:05Speaker 3: One little hit of the crack, it's fine. One needle
- 40:09Speaker 3: is fine. Yeah, one glass crack pipe.
- 40:11Speaker 4: One syringe full.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Okay, we're going to take callers, Justine, and we're going
- 40:19Speaker 3: to give advice, okay?
- 40:20Speaker 2: Yeah, great.
- 40:22Speaker 3: These are real people. Is the first one a caller?
- 40:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Okay, great. Yeah, we're going to start with callers.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Let's hit it. Okay.
- 40:30Speaker 6: Okay, so let's start with Demetrius.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Demetrius? Demetrius. Is that short for Demetriosis?
- 40:37Speaker 2: I think so. He is a fun one.
- 40:40Speaker 3: So he says, Dear Chelsea. My name is Demetrios. Quick recap.
- 40:43Speaker 6: I was born and raised in Greece, moved to Dubai
- 40:45Speaker 6: and traveled with work globally for seven years, fell in
- 40:48Speaker 6: love in San Fran, quit my Dubai job, moved to NYC,
- 40:52Speaker 6: won the green card lottery and cut to today. I've
- 40:54Speaker 6: been living in West LA the past five years, pursuing
- 40:57Speaker 6: my acting and standup career. As I focus on my
- 41:00Speaker 6: personal growth, I always feel like my dating life in
- 41:02Speaker 6: LA is imaginary. Dating is terrible in LA. And on
- 41:05Speaker 6: top of that, it's harder to date when I work
- 41:07Speaker 6: in hospitality, weird hours and weird days off.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Also, I'm not the king of England.
- 41:12Speaker 6: I'm barely middle class in Greece, but I guess due
- 41:14Speaker 6: to traveling in every continent and tasting culture, I'm well-rounded,
- 41:18Speaker 6: question mark, but most of the times the people I
- 41:20Speaker 6: meet at my workplace or the people I come across always.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Seem a bit unpolished.
- 41:25Speaker 6: I've been trying to make friendships in LA, but I
- 41:27Speaker 6: find it difficult because I've lived like a celebrity without
- 41:30Speaker 6: the fame, so it's hard to meet someone cosmopolitan the
- 41:32Speaker 6: way I live right now, but I can't dumb down
- 41:34Speaker 6: my taste. Also, I'm comfortable alone, but I just believe
- 41:37Speaker 6: that life is better shared. Chelsea has been one of
- 41:40Speaker 6: the three to four influences in my life that made
- 41:42Speaker 6: me want to chase my wildest dreams, leave everything. I
- 41:45Speaker 6: lived in Manhattan for five years and was loving it.
- 41:47Speaker 6: The pace, the people, I made friends easily. I haven't
- 41:50Speaker 6: yet liked LA. I haven't met genuine, nice, and cool people.
- 41:53Speaker 6: Sad to say. Any advice, ladies? Kisses, Demetrius.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Oh, hi, Demetrius. This is our special guest. Justine Loop
- 42:02Speaker 1: is here.
- 42:02Speaker 4: Hi.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Oh, hi.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Nice to meet you. I'm very nervous I'm sorry it's.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Okay don't worry about it nothing to be nervous about
- 42:12Speaker 1: we're just on TV together yeah right First of all,
- 42:16Speaker 1: Justine wrote, she had a great piece about things that
- 42:19Speaker 1: she loves to do in L.A., which you should look up.
- 42:22Speaker 3: Is it the L.A. Times? What was that for?
- 42:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
- 42:25Speaker 3: It was the L.A. Times, yeah. A thing she likes
- 42:28Speaker 3: to do in L.A. I would say, A, L.A.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Is a little tricky place because there's a lot of, like,
- 42:34Speaker 1: it's very centered, it's obviously centered around the industry. And
- 42:37Speaker 1: so there's, it's, it's, there's a lot of flakiness and
- 42:40Speaker 1: there's a lot of weirdos here. So I understand what
- 42:43Speaker 1: you're saying, but I think when, when that happens and
- 42:46Speaker 1: life kind of presents in that way where you're like
- 42:48Speaker 1: not finding your people, you really have to get out
- 42:50Speaker 1: of your comfort zone and do things that you don't
- 42:52Speaker 1: normally do. So like, what are things that you like
- 42:56Speaker 1: to do or, or what are things that you want
- 42:58Speaker 1: to do that you haven't done? Like, have you done like,
- 43:01Speaker 1: have you done all the museums in LA? Like, have
- 43:03Speaker 1: you thought about like joining a tennis club or doing
- 43:06Speaker 1: something that's like outside of your comfort zone and in
- 43:09Speaker 1: terms of like just socializing with people of different walks
- 43:12Speaker 1: of life, like joining different groups of things. I think
- 43:16Speaker 1: the dating apps are just a wrap on them right now, honestly.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I think if you like someone, you should hit them
- 43:21Speaker 1: up on Instagram or you should scroll through Instagram. I
- 43:23Speaker 1: think that's a more comprehensive view of someone's life anyway,
- 43:27Speaker 1: whether it's real or not, you'll find out. But I
- 43:29Speaker 1: find these dating apps, the whole nature of swiping, like
- 43:32Speaker 1: everyone is complaining about the same thing.
- 43:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 1: So like, what are some things that are outside of
- 43:37Speaker 1: your comfort zone that you can think of that would
- 43:39Speaker 1: be of interest to you?
- 43:41Speaker 7: I haven't done a lot of activities out of like
- 43:43Speaker 7: working my way to zero because when I moved to LA,
- 43:47Speaker 7: I felt like I was sub-zero for five years. So
- 43:49Speaker 7: I was like, take your credit, move to a better house,
- 43:52Speaker 7: get this, get that. And now that I reached to like,
- 43:55Speaker 7: you know, my surface or my ground floor, I'm like,
- 44:00Speaker 7: personal life, where, when, what, and I haven't done, maybe
- 44:04Speaker 7: I should take like a class because I will meet
- 44:08Speaker 7: people like with the same interests probably. And hit or miss,
- 44:13Speaker 7: I'm 42. That's the worst thing when you're moving in
- 44:16Speaker 7: your city and you're not like 25. Right. But we'll
- 44:19Speaker 7: figure out probably maybe somewhere in the ground links, something
- 44:24Speaker 7: I can use on my you know, work life and
- 44:27Speaker 7: at the same time, like maybe meet people.
- 44:28Speaker 4: I haven't done anything like that. I haven't had the
- 44:30Speaker 4: luxury of the time Yeah.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's like the first step. Like
- 44:34Speaker 1: when you put efforts out like that, I feel like
- 44:36Speaker 1: you always get rewarded. It's not just where your interests lie.
- 44:39Speaker 1: It's like, what haven't you explored that might be of
- 44:41Speaker 1: interest to you? Whether that's, you know, like a dance
- 44:45Speaker 1: class or groundlings class, whether it's a pottery class or
- 44:48Speaker 1: whether it's like a movie club where you guys all
- 44:51Speaker 1: watch the same movie and discuss it in person. There's
- 44:53Speaker 1: all sorts of shit going on in the city that
- 44:55Speaker 1: we don't know about because everyone kind of, it's kind
- 44:58Speaker 1: of like books, right? we always tend to read what
- 45:00Speaker 1: we want to read about, right? We don't really tend
- 45:03Speaker 1: to read, like you're not going to pick up a
- 45:04Speaker 1: book about Russia if that's not of interest to you.
- 45:07Speaker 1: But that's where the information lies, where you're getting new information.
- 45:11Speaker 1: So I would think about just like stretching your muscles
- 45:13Speaker 1: in that way and to know that you're not alone
- 45:15Speaker 1: in the way that you feel about L.A. And like
- 45:18Speaker 1: bringing that up to someone that you might be interested
- 45:21Speaker 1: in or finding like a group of people that also
- 45:23Speaker 1: feel that way is not going to be hard for
- 45:24Speaker 1: you to do because a lot of people feel misplaced
- 45:27Speaker 1: in L.A., It's like kind of like what you were
- 45:29Speaker 1: saying about college. When you go to college, everyone's nervous
- 45:33Speaker 1: about approaching another person, but like everyone's in the same boat.
- 45:36Speaker 1: You're all brand new to college. So there's a lot
- 45:40Speaker 1: of people that are in the same place as you.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And is there anyone at work that you would hang
- 45:44Speaker 1: out with?
- 45:45Speaker 4: Yeah, we do hang out with some people from work.
- 45:47Speaker 4: We do.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Well, you don't have to reveal that you've done cocaine or.
- 45:51Speaker 4: Anything with them. No, no, no. I'm just very picky
- 45:54Speaker 4: as a person. I don't know.
- 45:55Speaker 7: After 20 years of living in different continents, rapping with
- 45:59Speaker 7: different people, I know who I am and what I like.
- 46:02Speaker 7: And it's very tight end. My boundaries are very strong.
- 46:08Speaker 7: But most of the times, people are willing. I'd rather
- 46:11Speaker 7: stay home or work.
- 46:13Speaker 5: Out or make a big joint home and read a
- 46:16Speaker 5: book than join them. You know, like, I'm not being difficult.
- 46:20Speaker 5: I'm just saying I won't do anything for company. I'm
- 46:23Speaker 5: comfortable in my own skin.
- 46:24Speaker 7: But I would like a few individuals I can appreciate
- 46:28Speaker 7: and we'll spend some time together.
- 46:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I don't think you should be desperate.
- 46:33Speaker 4: I'm just saying.
- 46:34Speaker 3: you're not desperate.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Like, yeah, if you enjoy your own company, A, that's
- 46:38Speaker 1: a huge plus because a lot of people can't even
- 46:40Speaker 1: be alone. But just like get a little bit outside
- 46:43Speaker 1: your comfort zone and just do a couple things that
- 46:46Speaker 1: you wouldn't normally do just to see if you meet
- 46:48Speaker 1: anybody of interest, you know, and anybody that is like-minded. Justine,
- 46:53Speaker 1: do you have any LA ideas?
- 46:55Speaker 2: No, I mean, I would say the same. I kind
- 46:58Speaker 2: of feel like you're in a great position because you've
- 47:00Speaker 2: got you're in a spot where you feel like you've
- 47:02Speaker 2: got all your ground floor has been built. So you're
- 47:05Speaker 2: not like overly overwhelmed with trying to focus on other things.
- 47:08Speaker 2: You're like in a, in the perfect place to start
- 47:10Speaker 2: doing these things. And you don't have like a desperation
- 47:15Speaker 2: around it. So it's like kind of just like, Oh great.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Like this would be in a wonderful, like you can
- 47:20Speaker 2: have some ease about it. And I'd say like LA
- 47:23Speaker 2: is such a choose your own adventure that like the
- 47:25Speaker 2: idea of finding things. And I, I kind of agree
- 47:28Speaker 2: with Chelsea. Like, an improv class would be great, but also, like,
- 47:32Speaker 2: why not just pursue something that's, like, a little bit
- 47:35Speaker 2: out of what you need to be doing or should
- 47:38Speaker 2: be doing for your career and more of, like, oh,
- 47:40Speaker 2: what do I, like, what am I interested in besides
- 47:43Speaker 2: this that will make me just feel like a more
- 47:45Speaker 2: well-rounded person and turn me on in a different way
- 47:49Speaker 2: and light something up that hasn't been lit up before?
- 47:52Speaker 2: I feel like that's when I started feeling, like, most,
- 47:55Speaker 2: I guess... at home in LA and at home in
- 47:58Speaker 2: myself when it wasn't all about acting and all about work,
- 48:01Speaker 2: it was like, who, what am I interested in as
- 48:03Speaker 2: a person? And then like the whole thing feels just
- 48:06Speaker 2: like a more easy ride, like both like socially and
- 48:10Speaker 2: like artistically and ambition wise, like there's just less like
- 48:13Speaker 2: tightness around it all. So I feel like you can
- 48:15Speaker 2: only like It just sounds like an easeful way to
- 48:18Speaker 2: go about it that will just only like liven things
- 48:21Speaker 2: up and you can't help but meet new people. And
- 48:24Speaker 2: some of those people might be exciting and attractive to you,
- 48:27Speaker 2: like as friends who then can introduce you to people
- 48:30Speaker 2: or as someone that you're interested in as more than
- 48:33Speaker 2: a friend.
- 48:34Speaker 1: And if you like, like even if you go to
- 48:36Speaker 1: like LACMA and you do one of those group tours,
- 48:38Speaker 1: we were just talking about museums and like there's really
- 48:40Speaker 1: some cool art museums or.
- 48:42Speaker 7: I.
- 48:43Speaker 4: Used to joke around there. Yeah.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Like there's, they have group tours at all these museums
- 48:49Speaker 1: and like, that's actually a cool way to meet people,
- 48:51Speaker 1: especially when you're talking about like being cosmopolitan and having
- 48:54Speaker 1: a very well-rounded background. Like if you want to like be,
- 48:58Speaker 1: you know, you're looking for people to enhance your life, obviously,
- 49:01Speaker 1: and that are more sophisticated, then start with more sophisticated things.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Or like a cooking class would be kind of great.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Like there's like finding like a cuisine that you're really
- 49:09Speaker 2: interested in learning how to cook because then you're like
- 49:12Speaker 2: with people who also love food and it sounds like
- 49:13Speaker 2: you like being home and smoking a J and like
- 49:16Speaker 2: eating you know like having some good food like just
- 49:18Speaker 2: like finding things that like oh that fits into my
- 49:21Speaker 2: life it's not exactly like on the track that I
- 49:24Speaker 2: like imagine you know everything has to revolve around but
- 49:26Speaker 2: like that would fit really well into like what I'm
- 49:28Speaker 2: excited about you know yeah.
- 49:31Speaker 6: And the nice thing about going to a multi-week class
- 49:33Speaker 6: or something like that is you can kind of get
- 49:35Speaker 6: to know people a little bit before you're like hey
- 49:37Speaker 6: do you want to hang out like let me get
- 49:38Speaker 6: your number or whatever Or like if you're taking a
- 49:41Speaker 6: class that everybody like, let's all go grab a drink
- 49:43Speaker 6: afterward and you kind of like suss out who is
- 49:46Speaker 6: kind of interesting.
- 49:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I would do like three different activities.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Like you don't have to do them all at the
- 49:51Speaker 1: same time, but like pick a cooking class. take a
- 49:53Speaker 1: dance class or if that's not up your alley, like
- 49:56Speaker 1: go to the museum and go online and look for
- 49:59Speaker 1: things that, you know, you like other like-minded people.
- 50:02Speaker 3: And if you're looking.
- 50:02Speaker 1: For a partner in that area, then be forward about that.
- 50:07Speaker 1: You know, just, I think it's really good just to
- 50:10Speaker 1: be honest and open instead of I know you're like saying,
- 50:13Speaker 1: you know what you like and everything, but that rigidity
- 50:16Speaker 1: kind of closes yourself off to a lot of options.
- 50:19Speaker 3: So just try to be a little bit.
- 50:21Speaker 1: More open-minded and write down like what you're going to
- 50:23Speaker 1: do and your intention. Those things kind of come to
- 50:26Speaker 1: fruition when you make them happen in your life and
- 50:28Speaker 1: you put one foot in front of the other.
- 50:29Speaker 2: I agree.
- 50:31Speaker 4: I've heard a lot of great suggestions.
- 50:33Speaker 7: It's nice to know that I'm not like in my
- 50:35Speaker 7: head and it's like LA, it's not like the, I
- 50:38Speaker 7: was saying like Manhattan was a playground.
- 50:41Speaker 4: It was so easy. I loved it.
- 50:43Speaker 7: I would hop like bars every night with people like
- 50:46Speaker 7: from different aspects and backgrounds. But LA has its own
- 50:50Speaker 7: pockets and areas and you have to find your people,
- 50:53Speaker 7: your niche. And I should be dipping my feet in
- 50:55Speaker 7: different pools that I haven't. But I was kind of
- 50:58Speaker 7: in survival mode for.
- 50:59Speaker 8: A few years.
- 51:00Speaker 7: So it's a weird vibration and I didn't want to
- 51:02Speaker 7: share that. And once I got out of it, I
- 51:04Speaker 7: was like, again, I'm ready to surface kind of and Yeah.
- 51:08Speaker 1: So you've got the whole world at your fingertips. So
- 51:10Speaker 1: it's nothing but like positivity and optimism. And find some
- 51:14Speaker 1: other Greek people.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Hang out with some Greek people because they're going to
- 51:17Speaker 3: show you what they like too. And you're probably going
- 51:20Speaker 3: to have a lot in common with them.
- 51:21Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Or maybe not. He's like, I fucking hate Greeks.
- 51:25Speaker 4: No, I don't find.
- 51:26Speaker 7: I just find, like, we have to have more in
- 51:28Speaker 7: common than background or language.
- 51:31Speaker 3: To hang out. Okay, fair enough. That's fair enough.
- 51:33Speaker 4: No, I know many amazing Greeks. Don't get me wrong.
- 51:36Speaker 4: I don't hate anyone. I mean, I hate everyone equally.
- 51:39Speaker 7: But what I'm trying to say is, like, we need
- 51:41Speaker 7: to have more things in common than our background or culture.
- 51:44Speaker 7: I lived in Dubai and I had three Greek friends
- 51:46Speaker 7: and all my friends were, like, English speakers.
- 51:47Speaker 4: But.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Go to a comedy club, too. Go out.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Last night, I went to a comedy club, but I
- 51:53Speaker 4: was late. I was working. I tried to watch the comedy,
- 51:58Speaker 4: the horribly funny show. Oh, I was.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Did you.
- 52:02Speaker 4: I was.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Oh, I was there. You missed it.
- 52:04Speaker 4: I'm going.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Come on Thursday. I'm doing a set on Thursday.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Tomorrow. You're the main liner, right? So it's like you're earlier.
- 52:12Speaker 4: So I missed it. No, no.
- 52:14Speaker 3: I'll go on later tomorrow. Come to the improv tomorrow. Yeah,
- 52:16Speaker 3: that'll be fun. That's a fun night.
- 52:18Speaker 7: Oh, great. That's my favorite nights are like movies. Stand-up nights,
- 52:23Speaker 7: the rest are like hit or miss. If it's an
- 52:25Speaker 7: event or a dinner with friends, yes. But stand-up and
- 52:27Speaker 7: movies are my favorite nights out. Oh, okay.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Well, that's an easy way to meet people. Go to
- 52:31Speaker 1: the comedy store, the improv, the laugh factory. You get
- 52:34Speaker 1: seated next to strangers. Like that is a perfect way
- 52:36Speaker 1: to meet people.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Yeah, there we go.
- 52:39Speaker 7: And I wanted to say to... To wrap it up,
- 52:41Speaker 7: because I don't want to take too much of your time.
- 52:43Speaker 7: I'm not doing the main thing here. Chelsea, you've been
- 52:46Speaker 7: an influence for real. I remember flying in. I used
- 52:49Speaker 7: to live in Dubai, fly in LA and just go
- 52:52Speaker 7: to watch your show. And it's one of the few
- 52:54Speaker 7: people that made me want to quit my job, find
- 52:58Speaker 7: a way, do a lottery visa, move here. And the
- 53:02Speaker 7: way you live your life, it's respectful.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Oh, thank you.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Thank you. Such a pleasure. Of course.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Oh, thank you.
- 53:10Speaker 7: All right.
- 53:11Speaker 3: Well, hopefully I'll see you tomorrow.
- 53:12Speaker 4: I'll be there.
- 53:14Speaker 7: Okay.
- 53:15Speaker 3: Well, then I'll see you. I'll be there too.
- 53:17Speaker 4: Great. Sounds amazing.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Okay.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Bye.
- 53:20Speaker 3: Thanks for calling.
- 53:21Speaker 4: Have a lovely day.
- 53:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 53:22Speaker 1: You know, like people need to be reminded of the advantages.
- 53:25Speaker 1: I'm glad you brought that up, Justine. It's like you,
- 53:27Speaker 1: he's settled financially, which is everyone's biggest stress when they
- 53:30Speaker 1: moved to LA.
- 53:30Speaker 4: Right.
- 53:31Speaker 1: You know, like that is the biggest hurdle I think
- 53:33Speaker 1: for anyone living today is like to be financially stable.
- 53:36Speaker 1: And then you can actually have a good time and
- 53:39Speaker 1: pick and choose what you want to do.
- 53:40Speaker 6: And I like that you brought up like movie clubs
- 53:42Speaker 6: because there are actually a ton of those here in L.A.
- 53:44Speaker 2: And that's not just like going to a movie by yourself.
- 53:46Speaker 3: You actually meet people that way.
- 53:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:49Speaker 1: I mean, there's a lot of activities that I would never–
- 53:52Speaker 1: like participate in that would probably yield a lot of
- 53:55Speaker 1: like interesting people, not, not for participate, but that just
- 53:58Speaker 1: wouldn't occur to me. But if like I had to
- 54:00Speaker 1: really hunker down in a new city and meet people,
- 54:03Speaker 1: I would do those things.
- 54:04Speaker 6: And I like what you said about like pick three,
- 54:06Speaker 6: even if it's not at the same time. So that
- 54:08Speaker 6: way you have like, all right, if this one didn't
- 54:09Speaker 6: really work out, I've got some other backups.
- 54:11Speaker 4: Yeah. I think that's great.
- 54:17Speaker 6: Our next caller is Veronica and she says, dear Chelsea,
- 54:21Speaker 6: I need help figuring out whether I have healthy boundaries
- 54:24Speaker 6: or if I'm being too rigid in a relationship that
- 54:26Speaker 6: keeps pulling me back in. Four years ago, I met
- 54:29Speaker 6: a man I really connected with. He was funny, kind,
- 54:31Speaker 6: and I saw real potential. A few months in, his
- 54:34Speaker 6: insecurity started showing up as jealousy, suspicion, defensiveness, and accusations
- 54:38Speaker 6: that weren't based in reality. I fell in love with him,
- 54:41Speaker 6: but it ended because I knew I couldn't build something
- 54:43Speaker 6: healthy like that. Over the next few years, we stayed
- 54:46Speaker 6: in loose contact. He went to therapy, apologized, and eventually
- 54:49Speaker 6: asked for another chance. I believe people can grow, so
- 54:52Speaker 6: I gave it another try. Even after his progress, it
- 54:54Speaker 6: feels like the same dynamic is still there. I'm 47,
- 54:58Speaker 6: I raised two kids on my own, I'm financially independent,
- 55:00Speaker 6: and I'm finally in a place where I can focus
- 55:02Speaker 6: on my career and building for retirement. I have a
- 55:04Speaker 6: demanding job, a dog, and my days are very full.
- 55:07Speaker 6: He works from home, and there's often tension when I
- 55:09Speaker 6: don't respond to texts quickly enough during work hours. I
- 55:12Speaker 6: end up managing his insecurity, reassuring him, and feeling like
- 55:15Speaker 6: I have to be careful not to trigger his jealousy
- 55:17Speaker 6: or suspicion.
- 55:18Speaker 3: Hi, Veronica.
- 55:19Speaker 4: Hi, Veronica.
- 55:42Speaker 8: Hello.
- 55:42Speaker 4: I'm so excited.
- 55:43Speaker 3: I love you, Chelsea. Hi.
- 55:45Speaker 1: And this is our special guest. Justine Loop is here today.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Hi.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 55:49Speaker 4: Hello.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Well, it sounds like the writing's on the wall here.
- 55:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:53Speaker 1: I mean, giving somebody a second chance is generous, A,
- 55:57Speaker 1: and I think the work there is done.
- 56:00Speaker 3: I had this conversation last night.
- 56:02Speaker 1: I had the same conversation three nights ago, all with
- 56:05Speaker 1: different girlfriends.
- 56:07Speaker 3: When men reveal.
- 56:08Speaker 1: There is a honeymoon phase, obviously, which we all are
- 56:12Speaker 1: aware of, where people are on their best behavior. And
- 56:15Speaker 1: when that subsides, and the pain starts to chip away,
- 56:19Speaker 1: you start to see the real person, and their front
- 56:21Speaker 1: isn't working anymore because their real insecurities.
- 56:24Speaker 3: Come to the fore. And we, as women, and as
- 56:27Speaker 3: a 47-year-old woman... have no time.
- 56:31Speaker 1: To be dealing with a man that is insecure and
- 56:34Speaker 1: not understanding that you're at a job and that you're
- 56:37Speaker 1: not going to be responsive to his texts in 30 seconds. Like,
- 56:40Speaker 1: it's just, I don't have time for that. And I
- 56:42Speaker 1: don't think you have time for that either. I don't
- 56:44Speaker 1: think women are down with this anymore.
- 56:47Speaker 3: It's just too much.
- 56:48Speaker 1: We're dealing with too much other stuff happening in the
- 56:51Speaker 1: world to have to make somebody feel secure.
- 56:54Speaker 3: That is a grownup. I agree.
- 56:57Speaker 2: I agree. I just kind of feel like it sounds
- 56:59Speaker 2: so exhausting. And I've been in relationships like that. And, um,
- 57:05Speaker 2: and it's just like, it's like now it's just like, it's, it's,
- 57:08Speaker 2: it's not, oh, he's a bad guy or whatever. It's
- 57:10Speaker 2: just like, it's just not, it's just not something that
- 57:13Speaker 2: you need to be putting your brain and energy into.
- 57:15Speaker 2: And it feels so much nicer to be with someone
- 57:18Speaker 2: who has confidence and trusts you. And I kind of
- 57:21Speaker 2: feel like that's like the main thing is like respect
- 57:25Speaker 2: and trust. And in terms of like sustaining a relationship.
- 57:29Speaker 2: So if you don't have that, like if there's not
- 57:32Speaker 2: like this kind of innate feeling of trust, then it's like,
- 57:34Speaker 2: what are we, why, why even do it? Like, what
- 57:37Speaker 2: are we doing?
- 57:38Speaker 6: And I don't think there's anything you can do to
- 57:40Speaker 6: make someone else feel that like they either have to
- 57:43Speaker 6: have it intrinsically or learn it through therapy or, you know, it.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Seems like he needs, he needs more therapy and that's
- 57:50Speaker 1: also not your problem either.
- 57:51Speaker 3: Like he's got to go, that's an inside job.
- 57:53Speaker 1: He has to go deal with it and you just
- 57:56Speaker 1: need to let him know nobody wants this.
- 57:59Speaker 8: Well, and there's a little bit of an update on the,
- 58:02Speaker 8: on the therapy issue as well. I found out just
- 58:06Speaker 8: through conversation that, Because I was kind of curious, like,
- 58:10Speaker 8: are you seeing a psychologist? Like, what is their, you know, what,
- 58:14Speaker 8: what's the program here? And he was actually meeting with
- 58:19Speaker 8: a life coach.
- 58:21Speaker 2: So not the same, but yeah, there you go. Yeah,
- 58:24Speaker 2: not a therapist.
- 58:25Speaker 1: So that's not going to help with his insecurities or
- 58:28Speaker 1: anything like that. And yeah, so very, these are, I've
- 58:32Speaker 1: had this same kind of conversation, like I said, with
- 58:36Speaker 1: various different women over the past few weeks. It's a
- 58:38Speaker 1: recurring theme for some reason that's happening right now. Men
- 58:41Speaker 1: are feeling pretty insecure and we, I don't think that's
- 58:46Speaker 1: our job to, you know, like fix them.
- 58:48Speaker 3: And I don't, I think.
- 58:50Speaker 1: There's just, we're just like, we have so much to offer.
- 58:52Speaker 1: Like don't, it's a drag.
- 58:55Speaker 6: Do you guys live together? Do you live separately? How
- 58:58Speaker 6: back together are you? Are you totally back together at
- 59:01Speaker 6: this point?
- 59:02Speaker 4: No.
- 59:02Speaker 2: No, so we're not.
- 59:04Speaker 8: Um and it's you know i've dated other people like
- 59:06Speaker 8: since i've met him you know we kind of had
- 59:09Speaker 8: our first you know the first meeting in the first
- 59:11Speaker 8: few months together and it was great and then you
- 59:15Speaker 8: know i kind of i i saw the red flags
- 59:17Speaker 8: kind of right away and was just like this isn't
- 59:20Speaker 8: for me i don't again i don't have time.
- 59:22Speaker 2: For this right agree with that.
- 59:24Speaker 8: And then I think the, I think the thing that
- 59:27Speaker 8: got me was him reaching back out.
- 59:29Speaker 2: And apologizing and saying, you.
- 59:31Speaker 8: Know, I know I've got these issues and I'm working
- 59:33Speaker 8: on them in therapy and I want another chance. And
- 59:36Speaker 8: so that was really, I think the thing that has,
- 59:39Speaker 8: has hooked me back in, like, should I give this
- 59:43Speaker 8: guy a chance? Like he's trying, but then.
- 59:45Speaker 3: But you did, but you did give him a chance.
- 59:48Speaker 2: You gave him that chance. It's a wrap.
- 59:50Speaker 4: It's a wrap. That's it.
- 59:52Speaker 3: That's like, you can't, yeah.
- 59:54Speaker 1: You have to live your life and be, and, and
- 59:56Speaker 1: be selfish and think about yourself because as a woman,
- 59:59Speaker 1: like you have to think about yourself and your happiness
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: and the energy you're expending.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: And your bandwidth.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: And it's like, you gave him a second chance and
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: he didn't. And then he went to, you know, it
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: turns out he went to a life coach that kind
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: of says it all, you know?
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: And also he kind of like made it, he tried
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: to either said or made it seem like he was
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: seeing an actual therapist. Like He probably knows the difference.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: It feels a little shifty.
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: Yeah, no, he totally did.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: I think the other thing I would say, and this
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: might be a little like woo-woo for this crowd, I
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: don't actually know, but I'm just going to put it
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: out there. Like what I believe is I kind of
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: think that whether it's woo-woo or not, I think that
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: like the energy of saying like, this is not something
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: that I need to be tolerating right now. And like
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: clearing that space invites in the right thing and like
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: I do kind of I don't know I believe in
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: like the the universe kind of like or the energy
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: around making these kinds of decisions then like eliciting like
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: new stuff coming in that feels like it's more aligned
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: with what you're saying hey I I'm interested in this
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: like this is actually what I know I'm interested in
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: and I'm inviting that in and I'm actually going to
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: like not make space for that kind of stuff right now.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: And I, whether it's energy or it's just like you
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: knowing what you're not interested in anymore, I do feel
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: like it invites in something that is less toxic and
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: more rewarding and less time consuming and less energetically draining
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: than what you're dealing with right now.
- 1:01:26Speaker 7: You know?
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: Agreed. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: I've definitely been kind of holding space for him. So
- 1:01:34Speaker 8: I haven't been open.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you called in and you got it
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: from three women.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: So you, you know, what more.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: Do you need?
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:47Speaker 8: Nothing else.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: So maybe a glass of wine.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: Have one in your car. All right.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Good luck, Veronica.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: Thanks for calling, Veronica.
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: Thank you so much.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: And good luck with everything. And, you know, let us
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: know how it goes. Thank you.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: It's exactly what I needed to hear.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: Take care. Bye. Did you like giving therapy, Justine?
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I like it.
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: It's like so tricky because you forget that like, this
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: is like actual, I mean, I know that it's a
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: real circumstance that people are actually going through, but I'm like,
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: as she was getting off, I was like, oh, this
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: poor thing. Cause it's like hard. Like it's, I like it's,
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: she needs to get, that needs to be over. But
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: I'm like the reality of like walking through the like,
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: and we're done. It's over.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: Like break up.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: But I mean, it's really valuable to get information that
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: from people or get feedback from people who have nothing
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: to do with your life. I think it's much better
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: than asking advice from people who are enmeshed with you
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: because that's always shaded and it's less subjective.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: So I do find that.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: I find it like it's kind of freeing because then
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: you can be a harsher critic too.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: You can be like, this is absolutely unacceptable.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Well, Justine, thank you so.
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: Much for today.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Thank you for having me.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: So much fun talking with you. And season three, we're on, right?
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Of Nobody Wants This?
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's really fun. I think it's funny.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: I think it's romantic. I think people will really like it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: I feel excited.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: Okay, great.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Everybody go watch it. And thank you so much, Justine.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I hope to bump into you somewhere around LA on
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: the east side.
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Come on over, girl. Come on.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: Okay. All right.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Bye, guys. Have a good one.
