- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. Allie Peek,
- 0:02Speaker 1: a peek inside Gators football. UF on the road at
- 0:05Speaker 1: Missouri this week. We are presented by PrizePix.
- 0:08Speaker 2: We're all new users who play a $ 5.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Lineup and win, get 150 in lineups instantly if they
- 0:13Speaker 1: use code HMA. Allie, have you come down off of
- 0:16Speaker 1: the high from, I think I asked you the same
- 0:18Speaker 1: thing last week, but I think it's a different kind
- 0:20Speaker 1: of high this week after beating the crap out of
- 0:23Speaker 1: number four Ole Miss.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I think I told you this last week,
- 0:26Speaker 3: but I feel like Auburn was the litmus test for
- 0:30Speaker 3: how we did with our coaching hire. Some of these
- 0:32Speaker 3: other names in the SEC are guys that may have
- 0:34Speaker 3: been contenders for this Florida job. We landed John Summerall
- 0:37Speaker 3: and I felt like they passed that litmus test. This
- 0:39Speaker 3: Ole Miss litmus test was how far are we from
- 0:43Speaker 3: where we want to be and national relevance. And Florida
- 0:46Speaker 3: answered in a bigger way than honestly I was even expecting.
- 0:50Speaker 3: So now this next litmus test is, are you mature
- 0:54Speaker 3: enough to handle the success? Because you're not catching anybody
- 0:58Speaker 3: off guard anymore.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I think that's the biggest thing is can Florida, which I,
- 1:04Speaker 1: I really have a lot of confidence in like coaching staffs,
- 1:07Speaker 1: but you do kind of wonder from a player perspective,
- 1:11Speaker 1: these are players that now are dealing with an exorbitant
- 1:15Speaker 1: amount of success for a lot of them, the first
- 1:17Speaker 1: time in their careers, right?
- 1:18Speaker 2: Like a lot of these guys were at Florida. It's
- 1:20Speaker 2: not been great.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Certainly not early in seasons, even though, you know, a
- 1:24Speaker 1: couple of years ago, a lot of guys on this
- 1:25Speaker 1: team had a good finish to the year. Can you
- 1:27Speaker 1: handle that success? And can you now like Florida is
- 1:31Speaker 1: not sneaking up on anybody, even like the teams that
- 1:33Speaker 1: may be ranked ahead of them, like Georgia and Texas.
- 1:35Speaker 2: It's not like, Oh, well that's Florida. You know, we
- 1:37Speaker 2: can take our foot off the gas.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We can, I mean, that's what got Texas, you know,
- 1:40Speaker 1: beat last year is they, they didn't go into that
- 1:42Speaker 1: game the right way and Florida played really well. So
- 1:44Speaker 1: you're not sneaking up on anybody and you are now
- 1:48Speaker 1: the hunted. I mean, they're a top eight team and
- 1:50Speaker 1: I think they're probably better than that. Um, if I
- 1:52Speaker 1: was voting, but they only let, people even dumber than
- 1:55Speaker 1: I am vote on the AP poll. So apparently, so yeah,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I mean, they've been really impressive. They can't undo what
- 2:03Speaker 1: they did. Not that they would undo it, but if
- 2:05Speaker 1: you lose this game against Missouri, part of that Ole
- 2:09Speaker 1: Miss win feels like, all right, well, you didn't, you
- 2:11Speaker 1: may not have undone it, but you certainly didn't stack
- 2:13Speaker 1: on it. Like you should Florida should absolutely be six
- 2:16Speaker 1: and oh, when they go to Texas.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 5: I think it's, can you continue the momentum?
- 2:20Speaker 3: And, I do think that Coach Summerall has a big
- 2:22Speaker 3: job this week. He had talked all summer about how
- 2:26Speaker 3: the greatest teams are player-led. And I do think Florida
- 2:29Speaker 3: has some great leaders in the locker room, but I
- 2:32Speaker 3: know that the team's biggest leaders are young. And I
- 2:35Speaker 3: think that plays a role in this because are they
- 2:38Speaker 3: mature enough to not read their own press clippings? Are
- 2:41Speaker 3: they mature enough to look for their own deficiencies? And
- 2:45Speaker 3: that's going to get answered. And I'm a person who
- 2:48Speaker 3: picked Florida to beat Auburn, picked Florida to beat Ole Miss,
- 2:51Speaker 3: and then picked Florida to lose to Missouri this summer
- 2:54Speaker 3: when we sat down and we went through the schedule
- 2:57Speaker 3: and figured out how it would shake out. And I
- 2:59Speaker 3: didn't expect Florida to beat Auburn and Ole Miss in
- 3:02Speaker 3: the way that they did. So maybe that changes how
- 3:04Speaker 3: I look at this.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Game a little bit.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But Florida has a losing record all time against Missouri.
- 3:09Speaker 3: They have lost three of the last four times they've
- 3:11Speaker 3: gone to Columbia. It is not an easy place for
- 3:14Speaker 3: the Gators to play, and that's when it's not set
- 3:17Speaker 3: up as a trap game, which I do think this
- 3:20Speaker 3: potentially is for the Gators. So I do think it's
- 3:23Speaker 3: a maturity test for this roster, and how far are
- 3:28Speaker 3: we into having a team led by our players? I
- 3:33Speaker 3: think we're going to answer some of those questions on Saturday.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I think another thing that will help is I
- 3:38Speaker 1: feel like every time you guys play up there, I
- 3:40Speaker 1: remember the one night game where Richardson was playing But
- 3:43Speaker 1: it feels like every time you play up there, it's
- 3:44Speaker 1: like 11 a.m.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Local kick.
- 3:46Speaker 3: And it's usually November, so it's usually super windy and freezing.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Windy, cold, gross, 11 a.m. Nobody wants to play.
- 3:53Speaker 1: You've always got a big game against Florida State or
- 3:55Speaker 1: something next. This is a little bit better set up there.
- 4:01Speaker 1: obviously I've spent a lot of time and you've spent
- 4:04Speaker 1: a lot of time talking about Florida. And so we
- 4:06Speaker 1: know Jaden ball. We know that Philo has been impressive.
- 4:09Speaker 1: We know the offensive line has been better than expected.
- 4:12Speaker 1: What about Missouri worries you from their perspective? Like if
- 4:16Speaker 1: I do think that if Florida takes care of business
- 4:18Speaker 1: and plays to their potential, they'll probably be finding this game.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But what are the things that Missouri can do that
- 4:23Speaker 1: kind of give you some pause and saying, all right,
- 4:25Speaker 1: outside of all the, trap game, read your own press clippings.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Like what do they actually do on the field that
- 4:29Speaker 1: kind of gives you a little bit of hesitation?
- 4:31Speaker 3: I think that Missouri is probably the best run defense
- 4:35Speaker 3: that Florida has faced so far. And so is, do
- 4:39Speaker 3: you get into a scenario? I don't think that they,
- 4:41Speaker 3: that anybody's really going to be able to completely eliminate
- 4:44Speaker 3: Jaden Boff from the equation, but let's say you hold
- 4:48Speaker 3: them to 90 yards or 110 yards or something like that.
- 4:51Speaker 3: You're going to have to come up with points elsewhere.
- 4:54Speaker 3: So I, What does Aaron Filo do then? Does Florida
- 4:58Speaker 3: have the ability to beat them through the air? If
- 5:01Speaker 3: they're made one-dimensional, are they still good enough? And I
- 5:05Speaker 3: think the answer to that is yes, but the beauty
- 5:08Speaker 3: of Aaron Filo's quarterbacking experience so far at the University
- 5:11Speaker 3: of Florida is that he's been incredibly efficient and he
- 5:13Speaker 3: hasn't been asked to do a ton. So does that
- 5:16Speaker 3: change on Saturday? They have a talented front seven, and
- 5:21Speaker 3: Florida's offensive line is going to be tested yet again.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They've answered every test so far. I mean, would you
- 5:29Speaker 1: say that's the position group you're most impressed with this season?
- 5:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:33Speaker 2: By far? Because you've got to know what, again.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Ball's one of the best players in America, but you
- 5:39Speaker 1: thought that going into the year.
- 5:41Speaker 2: The wide receivers are really good.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Philo would probably be second, I would imagine, but the
- 5:45Speaker 1: offensive line being as good as... Do you think Summerall
- 5:47Speaker 1: was maybe sandbagging this offseason?
- 5:50Speaker 5: I don't, because he really seemed stressed.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Phil Troutwine played with my husband at Florida, and so
- 5:58Speaker 3: we had the opportunity to see him a few different
- 5:59Speaker 3: times since.
- 6:00Speaker 5: He has.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Gotten to UF and, you know, each time you'd give
- 6:03Speaker 3: him a compliment and he'd be like, oh, we're.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Not there yet.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Like definitely seemed like there was genuine concern with this.
- 6:10Speaker 3: I think they're incredibly well coached. I think strength and
- 6:13Speaker 3: conditioning plays a huge part of this. I think Rusty
- 6:15Speaker 3: Witt's probably the unsung hero. of why this team is
- 6:19Speaker 3: the way that they are so far. They have taken
- 6:21Speaker 3: on his identity and Summerall's as just like, grab your
- 6:24Speaker 3: lunch pail, put your hard hat on, let's.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Go to work.
- 6:26Speaker 3: We are, you know, tough, blue collar, gritty team. But
- 6:30Speaker 3: I have maintained all through the summer that this team's
- 6:33Speaker 3: ceiling is directly tied to this offensive line's performance. You
- 6:37Speaker 3: can have all the skill talent in the world, which
- 6:39Speaker 3: Florida does. But if your offensive line isn't going to
- 6:43Speaker 3: at least be serviceable, all of that doesn't really matter.
- 6:46Speaker 3: And I think they've been so much better than serviceable.
- 6:50Speaker 3: And that's the surprise here. I thought there was a
- 6:52Speaker 3: great chance Trout Line could get them to a point
- 6:54Speaker 3: where they were almost in neutral, if that makes sense.
- 6:58Speaker 5: And that allowed.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Florida to use their skill positions.
- 7:00Speaker 5: But they're a weapon.
- 7:01Speaker 3: And that's why this offense is as insanely efficient as
- 7:05Speaker 3: it is.
- 7:06Speaker 1: You, I'm going to take a quick break. You talked
- 7:08Speaker 1: about the ceiling a couple of weeks ago. You told
- 7:10Speaker 1: me that Florida ceiling was 11 and one on our
- 7:12Speaker 1: show state of the state.
- 7:14Speaker 2: And you got a lot of flack for that.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And it looks to me like Florida ceiling is 11
- 7:18Speaker 1: and one. I guess the ceiling technically would be 12
- 7:21Speaker 1: and oh, like they won't get blown out of any
- 7:23Speaker 1: game they play, but let's just say for argument's sake
- 7:25Speaker 1: that you were right. And that pains me to say
- 7:28Speaker 1: on this, but you were right. And the ceiling to
- 7:31Speaker 1: me would be okay. When all the games you're supposed to,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and then split with Texas and Georgia and Um, that
- 7:37Speaker 1: does bring us to an 11 and one ceiling, which
- 7:39Speaker 1: you said on our new show, state of the state,
- 7:42Speaker 1: what was your first thought when I, I, we haven't
- 7:43Speaker 1: even done like a lot of these, we talk all
- 7:45Speaker 1: the time, so not to take some of the movie
- 7:47Speaker 1: magic out of it, but I usually know what Allie's
- 7:48Speaker 1: going to say on a lot.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Of these questions. Um, We do like 18 shows together
- 7:52Speaker 2: a week.
- 7:53Speaker 1: So, uh, but what was your first thought when I
- 7:55Speaker 1: brought up doing state of the state, uh, in a
- 7:58Speaker 1: show with you, I and D money, uh, from Kane's insight.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And then what has been your favorite thing about doing
- 8:03Speaker 1: that so far quickly? And then we'll get back to
- 8:05Speaker 1: actually talking to Missouri.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Well, first of all, I think when all three state
- 8:09Speaker 3: programs in the state of Florida are good, college football
- 8:12Speaker 3: is at its best.
- 8:13Speaker 5: I think it is so fun.
- 8:15Speaker 3: But the ironic thing and the interesting thing about all
- 8:17Speaker 3: three fan bases is they can argue with each other
- 8:20Speaker 3: and fight with each other, whether they're good, bad, indifferent,
- 8:22Speaker 3: it doesn't matter. Like there is always kind of that
- 8:25Speaker 3: animosity that is there, but all three programs are in
- 8:28Speaker 3: such unique spots. And I think that makes the timing
- 8:31Speaker 3: of this show absolutely incredible. You know, Miami is convinced
- 8:34Speaker 3: that they're on a potential national title run. They lost
- 8:37Speaker 3: in the championship game last year. So they've got all
- 8:40Speaker 3: the talent in the world. They've got this momentum. They
- 8:43Speaker 3: feel like this could be their year. And then you've
- 8:45Speaker 3: got Florida who doesn't necessarily know what their ceiling is,
- 8:49Speaker 3: but knows they have hope. Knows that it's going to
- 8:51Speaker 3: be better than it previously was because you've got a
- 8:53Speaker 3: new man in charge and it's sunshine and roses at
- 8:57Speaker 3: the moment. And then you've got Florida State who doesn't
- 9:01Speaker 3: have hope but can see it on the horizon, if
- 9:03Speaker 3: that makes sense.
- 9:04Speaker 5: They think there's a coaching search in their future.
- 9:07Speaker 3: They feel like they could be on the precipice of
- 9:11Speaker 3: getting that hope. And so all of those programs being
- 9:14Speaker 3: in such different spots makes it a perfect time, I think,
- 9:18Speaker 3: for it to launch.
- 9:19Speaker 5: But it is so much fun.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I think college football in the state of Florida is
- 9:23Speaker 3: my favorite thing in the world. I will hate watch
- 9:27Speaker 3: Miami and Florida State every single time they're on. I
- 9:30Speaker 3: love following the recruiting stuff. Like it is just such
- 9:34Speaker 3: a natural fit for all three of us that it makes,
- 9:37Speaker 3: it makes it enjoyable to.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Do it every day.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I don't usually have a bad time talking
- 9:44Speaker 1: college football, but it is the most fun show because
- 9:47Speaker 1: there's enough like subtle jabs, but then there's enough of
- 9:50Speaker 1: an understanding of like, this is where we're at. The
- 9:52Speaker 1: comments are insane. So if you guys haven't subscribed to
- 9:55Speaker 1: state of the state, go do that. I will link
- 9:57Speaker 1: a video from our most recent show on, the end
- 10:00Speaker 1: of this, make sure you are subscribed Allie D money
- 10:03Speaker 1: and myself go live every Tuesday morning. And then we
- 10:06Speaker 1: typically do a recap show on Sundays as well. So
- 10:08Speaker 1: go check that out if you haven't already. And hopefully
- 10:12Speaker 1: we do get that coaching search back to Missouri and
- 10:15Speaker 1: Florida for just a moment. Oh, thoughts on the Florida defense.
- 10:20Speaker 1: They've gotten some criticism, both nationally and Some from their
- 10:24Speaker 1: own coaches, some from the fan base. People have questioned,
- 10:28Speaker 1: not so much the hire, but just like question if
- 10:31Speaker 1: Brad Weitz is as effective as they thought he would
- 10:33Speaker 1: be coming in so far.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Does that worry you?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Now, Florida's offense, although it may be their best defense,
- 10:39Speaker 1: because I don't know that anybody can really outscore them
- 10:42Speaker 1: in the conference.
- 10:43Speaker 2: But does that worry you going into this?
- 10:45Speaker 1: Like if Austin Simmons kind of has a day, is
- 10:47Speaker 1: it the secondary?
- 10:48Speaker 2: Is it tackling? Like what is it about this defense
- 10:50Speaker 2: that kind of gives you some concern?
- 10:52Speaker 5: You know, this defense isn't perfect.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I do think this defense has gotten a little bit
- 10:56Speaker 3: better week to week, which last week when we talked,
- 11:01Speaker 3: we talked about how it was possible that Florida's defense
- 11:04Speaker 3: was going to improve, but we weren't necessarily going to
- 11:06Speaker 3: be able to tell because they were playing the best
- 11:08Speaker 3: offense by far that they had faced so far in
- 11:12Speaker 3: the season. but I feel like you did see the
- 11:14Speaker 3: defense improve. Like they gave up 28 this week to
- 11:18Speaker 3: a guy that is a potential Heisman hopeful in Trinidad Chambliss.
- 11:22Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of people that would argue
- 11:23Speaker 3: he's the single best individual football player in college football.
- 11:28Speaker 3: So giving up 28 to that high powered offense, but
- 11:32Speaker 3: you scored 52 doesn't feel that absurd. Particularly they gave
- 11:36Speaker 3: up 39 the week before, which I do contend there's
- 11:38Speaker 3: some garbage touchdowns there, but If your defense is going
- 11:42Speaker 3: to continue to improve each week and your offense is
- 11:45Speaker 3: going to be able to score points at the clip
- 11:47Speaker 3: that they are, I think you can play with pretty
- 11:50Speaker 3: much anybody. And, you know, we were talking before we
- 11:54Speaker 3: talked about state of the state about the ceiling and
- 11:59Speaker 3: Vegas and ESPN and everybody that does, you know, the
- 12:02Speaker 3: odds for games has Florida favored in all but Texas
- 12:07Speaker 3: and Georgia at the moment. So if Florida wins all
- 12:11Speaker 3: the games they're supposed to, they go 10-2. And I
- 12:15Speaker 3: do think that there is a possibility. I don't think
- 12:17Speaker 3: that Texas or Georgia is just so much of a
- 12:20Speaker 3: world beater that Florida can't be on the same field
- 12:22Speaker 3: as them. So I'm not saying Florida's necessarily beating them,
- 12:26Speaker 3: but I think that you will have two ballgames there.
- 12:28Speaker 4: So let's say they split. That would be Absolutely insane.
- 12:32Speaker 3: And, you know, when I said Florida had an 11-1
- 12:36Speaker 3: ceiling this year, I also said I thought they won
- 12:38Speaker 3: eight or nine games, that that was the realistic outcome,
- 12:41Speaker 3: but that they had the athletes and the ability, if
- 12:44Speaker 3: all things broke the right way, to finish at 11-1.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I feel like if Florida wins this weekend, I probably
- 12:50Speaker 3: have to adjust my.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Prediction for the year. Eight or nine wins is probably
- 12:56Speaker 4: too low.
- 12:57Speaker 3: If Florida is five and oh, at that point, you know,
- 13:01Speaker 3: which is if you're a Gator fan, like kind of
- 13:03Speaker 3: something hard to even wrap your head around that we're,
- 13:06Speaker 3: we're here.
- 13:06Speaker 5: At this point.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I think the way that things are potentially going to
- 13:12Speaker 1: break out for them again, last year's schedule was incredibly
- 13:16Speaker 1: tough and I don't want to take anything away from
- 13:18Speaker 1: playing on the road at Auburn or against Ole Miss,
- 13:21Speaker 1: but those games are done.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Right.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And so you look at the rest of the schedule and,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and they're a favorite against Missouri. They're going to be
- 13:27Speaker 1: a favorite in South Carolina, Oklahoma, who we thought might
- 13:30Speaker 1: be a playoff team looks way, way weaker than they
- 13:33Speaker 1: did before. Now, maybe Kentucky's slightly better than we thought
- 13:37Speaker 1: in the off season, but I don't, I don't know
- 13:39Speaker 1: that Kentucky's as, as much better as Oklahoma is worse.
- 13:43Speaker 2: So like, I still think you'd, you'd take that trade off.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Um, Vandy and Florida state should not pose much of
- 13:48Speaker 1: a threat, especially with one of those games being at home,
- 13:51Speaker 1: the other being in Tallahassee with, you know, again, who
- 13:54Speaker 1: knows who the coach will be at that point. You're
- 13:56Speaker 1: looking at the way this rest of the schedule shakes
- 13:58Speaker 1: out and you, you can't, I mean, I mentioned like
- 14:01Speaker 1: the potential traps, like you're, you're a little bit worried
- 14:03Speaker 1: about Missouri, Georgia and Texas are still there. Kentucky is
- 14:06Speaker 1: going to be tougher than you think. Maybe Oklahoma figures
- 14:09Speaker 1: it out.
- 14:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 1: There is still a world where Florida goes nine and
- 14:11Speaker 1: three or eight and four, and it's still a good
- 14:13Speaker 1: season overall for summer all. But yeah, you, if, if
- 14:17Speaker 1: all you do is take care of business the rest
- 14:19Speaker 1: of the way, they're a playoff team.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I know that's crazy to think about.
- 14:22Speaker 1: We didn't think we'd be saying that before we got
- 14:24Speaker 1: to October, but all the, all they have to do, right?
- 14:27Speaker 2: Like several teams.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Win all the games on their schedule.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 1: But well, not even that, but just win the games.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You're supposed to win the university of Florida.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Like you win the games.
- 14:37Speaker 1: You're supposed to, if you lose to number one, Georgia
- 14:40Speaker 1: or number one, Texas or number two, Georgia.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So be it. Either of those games is in the swamp.
- 14:44Speaker 2: So that's fine.
- 14:45Speaker 1: You have to go out of state for that Georgia
- 14:46Speaker 1: game for the first time in a while. Texas is
- 14:48Speaker 1: a DKR. I think those are acceptable losses. Not that
- 14:52Speaker 1: anybody's happy with them, but I don't know that there's
- 14:54Speaker 1: another acceptable loss on the schedule.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Like I think Florida needs to be 10 and two.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Well, you know, what's crazy is that, so, you know,
- 15:00Speaker 3: ESPN does the percentages and your percentage chance of winning.
- 15:04Speaker 5: So not just, you know, a money line or anything.
- 15:06Speaker 3: And Florida has a 70% chance or higher in every
- 15:10Speaker 3: single game outside of that Georgia and Florida.
- 15:13Speaker 5: And I want to say the Georgia Florida sitting at
- 15:14Speaker 5: like 21 and 22% or something.
- 15:16Speaker 3: So like, that's in the like chip in a chair
- 15:19Speaker 3: you know you're saying there's a chance kind of thing
- 15:21Speaker 3: but I'm almost wondering if those numbers will continue to
- 15:24Speaker 3: adjust a little bit I don't think Florida will be
- 15:26Speaker 3: favored against Georgia or Texas going into those games at
- 15:29Speaker 3: any point but I do think that that gap might
- 15:32Speaker 3: actually close a little bit too which is just it's
- 15:36Speaker 3: interesting to see what a good coaching staff does because
- 15:40Speaker 3: you know Florida did bring in some transfer players but
- 15:43Speaker 3: a good chunk of their core guys they found at
- 15:47Speaker 3: Florida when they got here.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Summerall's most impressive job this year has been retaining talent.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Because how much different is this roster if Dallas Wilson
- 15:59Speaker 1: and Jaden Woods and Baugh are not on it? Is
- 16:03Speaker 1: it as attractive for some of the transfers that came
- 16:05Speaker 1: in to stick around? Do they find some of the
- 16:08Speaker 1: pieces they had? Yeah, I mean, I think Texas... Texas
- 16:12Speaker 1: has some things to figure out offensively. They didn't look
- 16:15Speaker 1: great against Tennessee's defense, which I think is good with
- 16:17Speaker 1: Jim Knowles there. But yeah, I think that, that part
- 16:21Speaker 1: of it makes it really interesting. Talked about the Simmons factor.
- 16:24Speaker 1: We talked about offense and defense. I know this gets
- 16:27Speaker 1: underrated and you don't get asked about it enough though.
- 16:29Speaker 1: You'd be, you'd probably like to hear this question more,
- 16:32Speaker 1: but special teams has been really good for Florida too.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Like they've been really good at all three phases. Again, defense,
- 16:37Speaker 1: the questions are there. Um, but holding Austin Simmons to
- 16:41Speaker 1: 28 points is, is a pretty big deal. Um, special teams,
- 16:44Speaker 1: they're really good too. And they have game changers, not
- 16:47Speaker 1: to trigger people with that word, but they have guys
- 16:49Speaker 1: who can change the game at any point. Maybe there's
- 16:51Speaker 1: a better way to say it. Um, and a kicker
- 16:53Speaker 1: that can make kicks. I mean, I saw the punter
- 16:56Speaker 1: getting hyped on the one that went out of bounds
- 16:58Speaker 1: inside the five and then VB three back there. If
- 17:00Speaker 1: he's a hundred percent, I don't know if that, if, uh,
- 17:02Speaker 1: I don't think anything's come out on injuries yet, but, uh, they're,
- 17:05Speaker 1: they're pretty elite.
- 17:06Speaker 2: On that unit as well.
- 17:07Speaker 3: You know, the special teams has been one of the
- 17:10Speaker 3: best surprises. Jonathan Galanti is the special teams coach at Florida.
- 17:13Speaker 3: And Hey, the fact that they have a dedicated special
- 17:15Speaker 3: teams coach, that's.
- 17:16Speaker 5: What he coaches. That's all he coaches. And he is
- 17:18Speaker 5: damn good at it.
- 17:21Speaker 3: I honestly credit special teams with that win against Trinidad
- 17:24Speaker 3: Chambliss and Ole Miss on Saturday, you know, outside of
- 17:27Speaker 3: the strip sack by Jaden Woods, which was.
- 17:29Speaker 5: Recovered by Miles Graham.
- 17:31Speaker 3: I don't know that there's a single bigger play that,
- 17:35Speaker 3: than that 74-yard kickoff return. When you are Ole Miss
- 17:38Speaker 3: and you go 13 plays over the course of five
- 17:41Speaker 3: minutes and you narrow that score to three points and
- 17:44Speaker 3: you feel like, okay, I've got some momentum, for that
- 17:48Speaker 3: to be wiped out in 90 seconds, that return took
- 17:51Speaker 3: eight seconds, and then they have three plays and they
- 17:54Speaker 3: score and the spread widens again to 10 points, that's
- 17:58Speaker 3: incredibly demoralizing. London Montgomery had two huge kickoff returns which
- 18:05Speaker 3: I do have a little interesting tidbit on that. If
- 18:08Speaker 3: you watched that game, you saw that neither Florida nor
- 18:11Speaker 3: Ole Miss' kickoffs were going out of the back of
- 18:13Speaker 3: the end zone consistently, which is a change for both teams.
- 18:17Speaker 3: A locked on Ole Miss guy we had on talked
- 18:20Speaker 3: about how every single kickoff this entire season had gone
- 18:23Speaker 3: out of the back of the end zone coming into
- 18:24Speaker 3: this game. Florida had had, I think, all but one
- 18:27Speaker 3: or two go out of the back of the end zone.
- 18:29Speaker 3: I was told that officials switched out the K-Balls which
- 18:34Speaker 3: a K ball is the ball that a kicker is
- 18:35Speaker 3: choosing to use and replaced them with brand new footballs.
- 18:39Speaker 3: And so both teams were kicking with it. So it's
- 18:41Speaker 3: not like one had an advantage or over the other
- 18:43Speaker 3: or anything, I guess. Maybe you think if Florida has
- 18:45Speaker 3: better special teams that they have an advantage there, but
- 18:48Speaker 3: so it's a brand new football being kicked instead of
- 18:50Speaker 3: a K ball, which is going to be most kickers
- 18:53Speaker 3: prefer a swollen ball that has been broken in and used.
- 18:57Speaker 3: It's going to soar a lot further. So I find
- 18:59Speaker 3: that in, entirely interesting to her, how these kickoffs played
- 19:03Speaker 3: out in this game, because neither team was great at kickoffs.
- 19:06Speaker 3: There was a lot of returns, but those two returns
- 19:09Speaker 3: from London Montgomery massive. And then you mentioned that Alec
- 19:12Speaker 3: Clark punt, this poor guy has punted five times through
- 19:16Speaker 3: like on.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Sung hero.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I guess he's getting his due because he's the holder
- 19:20Speaker 3: as well. But think about this. You come off the bench,
- 19:23Speaker 3: you get one punt and it's a 70 yard bomb.
- 19:26Speaker 5: To the two coffin corner. Like we got to give
- 19:29Speaker 5: him his flowers.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Poor guy doesn't even have enough punts to show up
- 19:33Speaker 3: on the top punting lists across the country because he
- 19:35Speaker 3: only has five and you have to have 10.
- 19:37Speaker 5: So will he even get that?
- 19:39Speaker 3: Like it might take three more games before he finds
- 19:41Speaker 3: himself on any sort of list, but he has been
- 19:45Speaker 3: incredibly good. Florida's had two punts returned for touchdowns, you know,
- 19:49Speaker 3: this season so far, something that hadn't happened since 1996.
- 19:52Speaker 3: They just special teams is clicking on all cylinders. And
- 19:56Speaker 3: at some point that will be the difference in the game.
- 19:58Speaker 3: And I would argue that that was the momentum swing
- 20:01Speaker 3: that Florida needed to just blow the roof off of
- 20:04Speaker 3: all this on Saturday.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it did.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It felt like you, I was kind of waiting for
- 20:08Speaker 1: that moment where Ole Miss would, okay, now they're.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Going to turn it on. And they did in the
- 20:13Speaker 2: third quarter. They, they started twice.
- 20:14Speaker 5: They narrowed it to three.
- 20:15Speaker 1: They, they started chipping away and then Florida kept answering back.
- 20:19Speaker 1: But then those special teams plays, whether it was the
- 20:21Speaker 1: long kick return, obviously had a long kick return to,
- 20:24Speaker 1: to start the whole thing, but the long kick return
- 20:26Speaker 1: the punt out. And you're just like, okay, now they're
- 20:28Speaker 1: going to go 98 yards and everything looked hard. As
- 20:31Speaker 1: much crap as you give the defense, everything looked hard
- 20:33Speaker 1: for Ole Miss. Like nothing just made him earn it.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Nothing came easily.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Whereas you, you know, they were sticking around really until
- 20:40Speaker 1: that fourth quarter, but everything that Florida did looked easy
- 20:44Speaker 1: and everything Ole Miss did. And they did it well
- 20:46Speaker 1: for two and a half quarters, but everything that Ole
- 20:49Speaker 1: Miss did was very, very difficult to get accomplished. And
- 20:52Speaker 1: so that's kind of another, takeaway for me on Florida's
- 20:55Speaker 1: defense that, yeah, they made them earn the heck out
- 20:58Speaker 1: of it.
- 20:58Speaker 2: And that's a really good offense.
- 20:59Speaker 5: That defense isn't bad.
- 21:01Speaker 3: I think part of why we harp on the defense
- 21:05Speaker 3: is that we expected that to be the solid unit
- 21:07Speaker 3: and the offense was going to be more of like
- 21:09Speaker 3: the crapshoot. It's like, okay, the wins that these teams
- 21:12Speaker 3: get will be dictated by the offensive line gelling or
- 21:15Speaker 3: how Philo commands the offense or things like that. So
- 21:18Speaker 3: I don't think any of us were expecting the offense
- 21:21Speaker 3: to actually be the better of the two units. So
- 21:23Speaker 3: I think that then puts the defense under a microscope.
- 21:25Speaker 3: When you're scoring 52 points a game, there's not a
- 21:27Speaker 3: whole lot to criticize. There's not a whole lot to
- 21:30Speaker 3: dissect there. So then you look at, okay, well, the
- 21:32Speaker 3: defense is giving up points. They're not throwing shutouts.
- 21:35Speaker 5: They're not whatever.
- 21:35Speaker 4: So let's kind of get in there.
- 21:37Speaker 5: But I don't think they've been bad.
- 21:39Speaker 3: I think they need to continue to improve tackling. I
- 21:42Speaker 3: do think they've done that game over game, but it
- 21:44Speaker 3: still has work to do. I think they need to
- 21:46Speaker 3: clean up penalties, and I think they need to Um,
- 21:50Speaker 3: you know, the, the secondary has kind of been a
- 21:53Speaker 3: little soft and I think that needs to improve, but
- 21:55Speaker 3: you want to know a really fascinating stat to me
- 21:58Speaker 3: is that Florida has only trailed Campbell.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Because they had an opening possession where they scored a
- 22:04Speaker 4: field goal.
- 22:05Speaker 5: That is the only time.
- 22:06Speaker 3: And then Florida scored like 90 seconds later. That is
- 22:09Speaker 3: the only time this entire season that Florida has ever trailed.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Wouldn't it be wild to go through the entire schedule
- 22:16Speaker 1: and Campbell be the one team that would be nuts.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I don't even remember what I just said on our
- 22:23Speaker 1: show that we just did. I think Florida wins this
- 22:25Speaker 1: by about 10. I don't think Ole Miss can score
- 22:29Speaker 1: an Ole Miss.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Missouri can do quite enough offensively in this game. I
- 22:33Speaker 1: do think Florida's defense is a little bit slept on
- 22:35Speaker 1: and I have a hard time seeing Florida held under
- 22:37Speaker 1: 40 points too often this year.
- 22:39Speaker 2: So I like Florida by 10-ish. What is your score here?
- 22:42Speaker 5: I actually have a lower scoring.
- 22:44Speaker 3: And maybe this is me being hopeful that Florida has
- 22:46Speaker 3: some lessons they can learn in this game to apply
- 22:48Speaker 3: later on. But I have Florida 24-20. I think Missouri
- 22:52Speaker 3: is the best run defense that Florida has played so far.
- 22:55Speaker 3: It'll be one of the better ones they play through
- 22:57Speaker 3: the entire year. Texas's and Georgia's will be better. But
- 23:00Speaker 3: I don't know that anybody else's will be better than
- 23:02Speaker 3: Missouri's run D.
- 23:03Speaker 4: And I think Florida maybe has to win it.
- 23:06Speaker 3: In a different way than they've won their previous four games.
- 23:09Speaker 3: But they've got to excise that demon that lives in
- 23:12Speaker 3: Columbia that's not something that has been kind to Florida.
- 23:15Speaker 3: But if they win it, they pass that maturity test, I.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Think they go into Texas 6-0, which is a wild thought.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Top five matchup. Here we come. Will you go if
- 23:28Speaker 2: that's the case?
- 23:29Speaker 3: It's pig jig here in Tampa, so I will not.
- 23:33Speaker 5: But I don't know.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Just get a couple of tickets and I'll go for you. Um,
- 23:36Speaker 1: what do you have coming this week and where can
- 23:38Speaker 1: people follow you?

- 23:54Speaker 3: Mizzou on earlier.
- 23:55Speaker 4: That'll be released later on today, I believe, or tomorrow.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Um, there's just so much to talk about this offensive
- 24:01Speaker 3: line is Jaden ball, the best running back in the country. Um,
- 24:04Speaker 3: This special teams unit, which we spent some time talking
- 24:07Speaker 3: about today, there's just a lot to get into. And
- 24:10Speaker 3: it's really given Florida some juice recruiting wise. So we'll
- 24:13Speaker 3: get into that as well.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Awesome.
