Jobs Slow, But Labor Market Still Strong | Oakland News
Job growth slowed in June with only 57,000 new jobs added—far below expectations—after a strong streak of over 100,000 jobs per month from February to May. Revised data shows April and May were even weaker, down by 74,000 combined. Professional services led the way with 36,000 new hires, while healthcare added 22,000 (down from an average of 38,000). Leisure and hospitality surprised with a 61,000 job loss. Still, analysts say the labor market remains resilient, with hiring ahead of last year’s pace and unemployment dipping to 4.2%.
