- Sean Graver: You know, you can be in a room full of co-workers all day and still drive home feeling like nobody actually knows you. Hey, I'm Sean, and this is prayer before work. And there's a line in the book of Hebrews that I go back to more than almost any other verse when I feel isolated. And that is, I will never leave you nor forsake you. And that's from Hebrews chapter 13, verse 5. It's God speaking a promise straight to his people. He's not just going to check in sometimes. He says he'll never leave. Never forsake. Now workplace loneliness is a strange specific kind of thing because from the outside it looks like you have plenty of people around you. You're in meetings all day or you're in group chats. Someone says good morning to you at the coffee machine. But surface level contact is Isn't the same as being known. And you can have a hundred small interactions a day without a single one of them being real. Now, sometimes it's the nature of the role. Remote work, small team, being new, being the only one who does what you do. Sometimes it's just that everyone's busy and connection takes more initiative than anybody has energy for by three o'clock on a Tuesday. But here's What I'd say. God's presence isn't a replacement for human connection. He designed us for both. But it is a floor underneath you on the days when the human connection isn't there yet. So you're not actually alone, even on the loneliest days, even when it feels that way. And in reality, loneliness at work. rarely get solved by waiting for someone else to reach out first. I mean one honest conversation or one lunch invite, one, hey, want to grab coffee, can change things more than you would expect. It's a small and uncomfortable step at times, but most real connection starts with somebody being willing to take it. So let's pray. Lord, thank you that your promise isn't conditional on how connected we feel today. When work feels isolating, remind us you haven't left, even when it doesn't feel like anyone's there. Give us the courage to reach toward someone else instead of waiting to be noticed, and use us to be the person who makes someone else's day a little less lonely too. And we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. Go make today count.
