- 1:33Carmen Hecox: I am so ecstatic to have you on the show.
- 1:36Kiki Tyler: Oh I'm excited to be here, Carmen.
- 1:38Kiki Tyler: Thanks for having me.
- 1:40Carmen Hecox: So Kiki, can you briefly introduce yourself to the audience and share how you embarked in your journey of becoming a Reiki master and sound healer?
- 1:51Kiki Tyler: Yes.
- 1:52Kiki Tyler: So, uh, Kiki Tyler, uh, Reiki master teacher, sound healer, and really spiritual guide.
- 1:57Kiki Tyler: I feel like I'm a mentor at this point to those who started out where I did and stumbled upon it.
- 2:04Kiki Tyler: 2020, the great unplugging.
- 2:06Kiki Tyler: I had a very dear friend of mine who passed to stage four lung cancer out of the blue.
- 2:12Kiki Tyler: So I was dealing with a lot of grief and was introduced to both Reiki and sound, and that was the catalyst that started me on my spiritual journey and my spiritual path.
- 2:22Carmen Hecox: Many people are unfamiliar with Reiki and sound healing.
- 2:26Carmen Hecox: Can you kind of tell us a little bit about that?
- 2:29Kiki Tyler: Yes.
- 2:29Kiki Tyler: So I'll start with Reiki.
- 2:30Kiki Tyler: It is the use of universal life force energy.
- 2:35Kiki Tyler: So we all can tap into it.
- 2:37Kiki Tyler: And those that go through trainings are actually attuned to it.
- 2:41Kiki Tyler: So think of it as a channel.
- 2:43Kiki Tyler: And each time you get an attunement, your channel opens wider and you're able to experience more power coming to and through you.
- 2:50Kiki Tyler: So as the healer, I'm like the faucet, not the water.
- 2:54Kiki Tyler: So you as a client would actually control the healing session.
- 2:57Kiki Tyler: Many people come to me, they want to relax.
- 3:00Kiki Tyler: They went to destress.
- 3:01Kiki Tyler: They went to sleep better.
- 3:03Kiki Tyler: Perhaps they're having body aches and pains and traditional means have not given them the relief that they seek.
- 3:09Kiki Tyler: So this is a great, combination.
- 3:11Kiki Tyler: So I'm not a doctor.
- 3:12Kiki Tyler: I'm not saying don't do what doctors are prescribing, but it tends to amplify the healing effects of what you're already doing.
- 3:19Kiki Tyler: So it's a really nice compliment and most people fall asleep when they're on the table or if we're doing things virtually and they just get that space and time that they wouldn't normally give themselves is what I found.
- 3:31Kiki Tyler: And sound healing, you're actually using different frequencies, different vibrations that are attuned to certain areas and regions of your body to help you relax and release.
- 3:45Kiki Tyler: So dis-ease is a lot of times trapped in tissues.
- 3:48Kiki Tyler: We can suppress emotions, whether consciously or subconsciously.
- 3:53Kiki Tyler: And talk therapy is great.
- 3:54Kiki Tyler: I've done it.
- 3:55Kiki Tyler: It's a world of good.
- 3:57Kiki Tyler: Sometimes you don't want to go back to those places.
- 3:59Kiki Tyler: You don't want to relive the trauma.
- 4:02Kiki Tyler: And with Reiki and sound healing, you can still experience that beautiful release, but don't have to talk about it and don't need to go back quite to where it was emotionally charged.
- 4:12Carmen Hecox: So, let's go back a little bit so you said that you lost a loved one in 2020 due to cancer.
- 4:20Carmen Hecox: And that's when you learned about Reiki or were exposed to Reiki.
- 4:25Kiki Tyler: Yes.
- 4:25Kiki Tyler: So she had passed and we weren't able to have the traditional funeral.
- 4:29Kiki Tyler: Couldn't get together.
- 4:30Kiki Tyler: All the mandates.
- 4:32Kiki Tyler: Didn't realize I was in denial.
- 4:34Kiki Tyler: Like I hadn't really grieved.
- 4:35Kiki Tyler: I hadn't, you know, let the tears flow and have that sense of release.
- 4:40Kiki Tyler: I was able to go to a women's wellness retreat.
- 4:42Kiki Tyler: We were all spread out.
- 4:43Kiki Tyler: It was very safe.
- 4:44Kiki Tyler: It was outdoor yoga and things like that.
- 4:47Kiki Tyler: We had just finished a sunrise yoga session.
- 4:50Kiki Tyler: We're all in savasana on our mats and there were Reiki practitioners that had asked if we wanted Reiki at the end.
- 4:55Kiki Tyler: So they're walking around giving Reiki.
- 4:59Kiki Tyler: And I didn't know my eyes were closed, but I started crying.
- 5:01Kiki Tyler: Like the tears just started flowing.
- 5:03Kiki Tyler: And I just felt like the emotions were being lifted and pulled out of my body.
- 5:07Kiki Tyler: And I was feeling lighter and lighter.
- 5:09Kiki Tyler: And after everything concluded, I talked to the Reiki practitioner and she had felt my tears.
- 5:17Kiki Tyler: It was like, she got the wave of emotion and she just stayed over me for a while, knowing that I needed that healing and that release.
- 5:24Kiki Tyler: So throughout that weekend, I spent time learning and asking questions like, what did I just experience?
- 5:31Kiki Tyler: And then there was a sound practitioner there as well who had tuning forks and she was offering many chakra alignments.
- 5:38Kiki Tyler: And at that time, I didn't know what a chakra was.
- 5:41Kiki Tyler: I'm like, it sounds good.
- 5:42Kiki Tyler: I'm here.
- 5:43Kiki Tyler: Let's try it and.
- 5:46Kiki Tyler: I didn't tell her, but going in, I had a really bad headache.
- 5:49Kiki Tyler: I was dehydrated from all the tears being shed and my low back was hurting me.
- 5:54Kiki Tyler: It was a five, six hour drive to get to this ranch where the retreat was held.
- 5:59Kiki Tyler: So she scans me, intuitively selects the tuning forks that my body was calling for.
- 6:05Kiki Tyler: And as she's playing them, my headache starts to disappear.
- 6:09Kiki Tyler: My low back pain is gone and it did not come back.
- 6:14Kiki Tyler: It's not like it was gone for an hour or it was gone until the next day.
- 6:17Kiki Tyler: It was gone.
- 6:18Kiki Tyler: It had left my body.
- 6:20Kiki Tyler: So I wanted to learn everything I could about what just happened to me.
- 6:25Kiki Tyler: It was fascinating.
- 6:26Kiki Tyler: It was magic.
- 6:27Kiki Tyler: And it went deeper than that.
- 6:28Kiki Tyler: So coming back to reality, I signed up and took my Reiki One certification, which is all about self healing.
- 6:36Kiki Tyler: And that was my intention.
- 6:37Kiki Tyler: I knew there was more work to be done.
- 6:39Kiki Tyler: I had just opened the door crack to this new world of healing and also started learning all I could about sound and frequency.
- 6:49Kiki Tyler: And there, there's a sound bath, which is beautiful and you go and you can relax and enjoy.
- 6:54Kiki Tyler: And I focus more on sound healing.
- 6:56Kiki Tyler: So the intention going into that is for that specific release.
- 7:00Kiki Tyler: Whether the client shares it with me or it's in her head or she writes it down, she gets what she needs.
- 7:07Carmen Hecox: So you we're totally unaware of what these modalities were, but you experienced them firsthand the lightness the feeling of release the release that you couldn't process.
- 7:23Carmen Hecox: And I say process because your friend passed away.
- 7:26Carmen Hecox: You said, okay.
- 7:26Carmen Hecox: She's not here anymore but in reality you really mentally spiritually hadn't really processed that.
- 7:33Carmen Hecox: And so through this Reiki session that you had at this retreat, you were able to begin to chip away and feel like you were healing.
- 7:41Carmen Hecox: Like you were really, truly letting go of the heartache.
- 7:45Kiki Tyler: Yes, the pain that was around it where I couldn't think of her or see pictures of her without it being in this like visceral reaction of pain and grief.
- 7:54Kiki Tyler: It was starting to lift away.
- 7:57Carmen Hecox: And so, how does Reiki work?
- 7:59Carmen Hecox: I mean, cause if I go see a counselor, we sit there, we talk about issues that might hurt or things that I need help processing.
- 8:07Carmen Hecox: How does it work?
- 8:09Kiki Tyler: It's unique to each person.
- 8:10Kiki Tyler: So sometimes people come to me and they, they just are curious.
- 8:13Kiki Tyler: They want to know what it's like, or they just know that something's off and they just want to feel better.
- 8:19Kiki Tyler: So it could be, I call that general healing.
- 8:21Kiki Tyler: So I go in and scan and ask their higher self and their guides to guide me with the session.
- 8:26Kiki Tyler: And as the client, you are guiding the energy.
- 8:29Kiki Tyler: So if you're skeptical of it, or if you're not ready, or if you don't want it, it will not flow.
- 8:37Kiki Tyler: So the client is in a hundred percent control of where the energy flows and for how long.
- 8:43Kiki Tyler: And you can do that on a subconscious or a conscious level.
- 8:46Kiki Tyler: And some people come to me with very specific ailments, whether it's emotional, career, finance, relationship.
- 8:55Kiki Tyler: They might say things like, I know something's holding me back.
- 8:58Kiki Tyler: I can't figure out what it is.
- 9:00Kiki Tyler: And it could be something from their past life.
- 9:02Kiki Tyler: It could be something from an inner child wound that may need healing or attention.
- 9:07Kiki Tyler: And it's up to the person.
- 9:08Kiki Tyler: I never pry or press it's up to them what they want to share.
- 9:11Kiki Tyler: And they don't have to share for them to still receive the healing.
- 9:15Kiki Tyler: So it can be very personal and vulnerable, but it doesn't have to be.
- 9:18Carmen Hecox: And so, if I came to you virtually like this, like we're meeting right now.
- 9:23Carmen Hecox: Would we be having a discussion or would I be laying down on the floor, on my bed.
- 9:30Carmen Hecox: How does, the exchange of energy take place?
- 9:34Kiki Tyler: It's a great question.
- 9:35Kiki Tyler: And I've done it a few different ways.
- 9:37Kiki Tyler: Most recently I do like to hop on zoom, have a brief discussion prior to going in, guide you in with several deep breaths, and then you can turn your camera off and lay down.
- 9:46Kiki Tyler: And then I'll bring you back to your body at the end and we'll share what we each experienced on either of our ends.
- 9:52Kiki Tyler: Sometimes there'll be similarities.
- 9:54Kiki Tyler: Sometimes people will fall asleep and they'll be snoring on the other end, which is still like awesome.
- 9:59Kiki Tyler: That's what they needed in that moment, but there's still healing being done on the energetic body as well.
- 10:05Kiki Tyler: And it deals with physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
- 10:10Kiki Tyler: It does span time and space, so I can send it to you without being on Zoom, and we can chat.
- 10:17Kiki Tyler: I've had people that didn't want to get on Zoom, and I would just voice note them, or type up the notes and share with them.
- 10:23Kiki Tyler: Uh and each client is different so sometimes I'll setup a crystal grid.
- 10:27Kiki Tyler: Some will want me to play the sound bowls at the end as part of the session for healing.
- 10:33Kiki Tyler: I also have Oracle cards.
- 10:34Kiki Tyler: So if they're seeking a little bit more, if they have a question, I tell them not to share it with me and I'll intuitively pick for them, share the card and the guidance.
- 10:43Kiki Tyler: And that message is for them to interpret because they already have the answers inside of them.
- 10:48Carmen Hecox: So it's just a matter of we all have something, but we just haven't figured out how to get connected with it.
- 10:55Kiki Tyler: Or we lost the connection.
- 10:56Kiki Tyler: Or it's it's been quite and asleep I feel like as children we're very much tapped in to what feels good to us and we have that inner knowing of yes I'm going to go outside and play or I'm going to go you know color or I'm going to sit by myself, and play with my, whatever it is.
- 11:14Kiki Tyler: And then as we progress and become adults and go to college, we kind of forget those things.
- 11:19Kiki Tyler: And then people pleasing can set in hard to set boundaries.
- 11:23Kiki Tyler: And I work with a lot of women.
- 11:26Kiki Tyler: My clients, high achieving, they have their nine to five, they're running a busy household, they're running to and fro with the kids and all the afterschool activities or sports on the weekend and their cup is empty or near empty on a regular basis.
- 11:40Kiki Tyler: They're giving so much of themselves.
- 11:43Kiki Tyler: So this is my opportunity to give to them and help refill their cup so they feel full.
- 11:48Carmen Hecox: Yeah, cause I know that as a woman, like you explained, we're always giving and giving and it's almost like we're running on autopilot and everything's getting done, but, there's that disconnect.
- 12:00Carmen Hecox: And for a woman in midlife, sometimes it's hard to figure out where that disconnect comes from.
- 12:07Carmen Hecox: You know, is it that I'm not happy?
- 12:10Carmen Hecox: But I should be happy because everything's perfect.
- 12:12Carmen Hecox: You know, the family's good, my marriage is good, I have a good job, everything is in alignment, but there's that disconnect.
- 12:21Carmen Hecox: And so, as a woman, we may not know what those answers are.
- 12:24Carmen Hecox: How does, working with you, do they develop answers for that disconnect?
- 12:29Kiki Tyler: What I see on the client side is they start to build this trust with themselves.
- 12:34Kiki Tyler: And I start to reconnect to the parts of themselves that, like you mentioned, we are an autopilot and we're almost numb, right?
- 12:41Kiki Tyler: We're kind of going through, we show up at the soccer game for the kids and we're like, I don't remember driving here.
- 12:46Kiki Tyler: Cause you're just so used to doing it, right?
- 12:48Kiki Tyler: It's almost like a meditative state and being more intentional and just giving a different perspective.
- 12:56Kiki Tyler: Sometimes I can see huge shifts just in one session.
- 13:01Kiki Tyler: Just thinking a different way or hearing from someone who's not emotionally attached to you in any sphere of your ecosystem, right?
- 13:09Kiki Tyler: It's not a loved one.
- 13:10Kiki Tyler: It's not a family member.
- 13:11Kiki Tyler: It's not a girlfriend.
- 13:12Kiki Tyler: Like I'm on the outside of all that.
- 13:13Kiki Tyler: So I don't have any bias.
- 13:15Kiki Tyler: I don't have any preconceived notions.
- 13:17Kiki Tyler: You are my priority.
- 13:19Kiki Tyler: No one else.
- 13:20Kiki Tyler: And I think that's really important because women, we do that to others, but rarely do that to ourselves.
- 13:26Kiki Tyler: And there's guilt and shame come up a lot.
- 13:29Kiki Tyler: I feel people feel guilty for spending an hour and 90 minutes with me or their shame, I should be doing something for the house, for the kids or for work, etcetera, and taking care of yourself it's just as important.
- 13:41Kiki Tyler: And I've seen when people start to do that, shifts start to happen in every other area of their life, relationships get better, finances get better, career gets better, girlfriends, family members.
- 13:52Kiki Tyler: People mend fences with relationships that they thought were on the outs.
- 13:58Kiki Tyler: So whatever people are looking to heal happens because they're now putting their attention on it.
- 14:04Kiki Tyler: Where they weren't before.
- 14:05Carmen Hecox: Where does the practice of Reiki come from?
- 14:08Kiki Tyler: It's over a hundred years old, and it was developed by a man in Japan, and he was working in a healing space and saw that there was this void and modern medicine wasn't enough by itself.
- 14:21Kiki Tyler: And he created this philosophy Usui Reiki is the traditional, which I am trained in.
- 14:28Kiki Tyler: And there are also several different branches of Reiki that have different modalities.
- 14:33Kiki Tyler: So one of them that I love and I'm drawn to is called Celtic Reiki, which taps into the power of nature and trees, which are all around us.
- 14:41Kiki Tyler: And there's a lot of scientific evidence that goes into grounding, or I think they're calling it earthing.
- 14:46Kiki Tyler: Where getting your feet in the ground changes the frequency in your body and it creates dopamine and that happy feeling.
- 14:54Kiki Tyler: It's spending time in nature without your earbuds in, blasting music, like really listening to the birds and animals and the wind and what's around you is very calming and peaceful.
- 15:05Kiki Tyler: Were surrounded by so much technology, some out of necessity, some out of boredom, sit there and, and can doom scroll a bit.
- 15:13Kiki Tyler: But that can help, fights against our central nervous system, so we're in that fight flight freeze mode so often.
- 15:20Kiki Tyler: But working with Reiki, with sounds, spending more time in nature, all brings it back down, and then you're like, oh, this is what it's supposed to feel like when I'm not always feeling like I have to run from a saber tooth tiger.
- 15:33Kiki Tyler: Many, many generations ago, the fight or flight was needed, but now we're feeling it all the time.
- 15:37Kiki Tyler: We've got the traffic and the stress and it's so many stressors and pulling on our attention.
- 15:43Kiki Tyler: And we don't think about it.
- 15:45Kiki Tyler: We don't stop to look at all things that are pulling on our attention and our energy.
- 15:50Kiki Tyler: So Reiki is a way to bring it back home, bring it back to your heart and soul and check in with you as a person.
- 15:57Kiki Tyler: How are you doing?
- 15:58Kiki Tyler: Not the knee jerk.
- 15:59Kiki Tyler: I'm great.
- 15:59Kiki Tyler: How are you?
- 16:00Kiki Tyler: But no hum, I'm feeling a little off today.
- 16:03Kiki Tyler: Well, like you said, disconnected.
- 16:05Kiki Tyler: I have women who say something is missing.
- 16:07Kiki Tyler: They wake up and like, I put a check in all the boxes.
- 16:09Kiki Tyler: I've got the college degree.
- 16:10Kiki Tyler: I've got the amazing job.
- 16:11Kiki Tyler: I got the promotion, white picket fence and no judgment around any of this, whatever your path is.
- 16:16Kiki Tyler: They're just like, I've achieved everything I set out to achieve.
- 16:20Kiki Tyler: And I feel empty or they're lacking that sense of fulfillment.
- 16:24Kiki Tyler: So they're seeking that clarity and that purpose.
- 16:27Kiki Tyler: Like, why am I here?
- 16:28Kiki Tyler: What am I meant to do?
- 16:30Carmen Hecox: So is Reiki more of a practice of being able to turn off all the noise and come back to your true self.
- 16:37Kiki Tyler: Yes.
- 16:38Kiki Tyler: That is a great summation of it.
- 16:40Kiki Tyler: And, after I took Reiki One, there was a 21 day practice where we would scan ourselves, check in with ourselves in the morning and at night, and go through the five principles and.
- 16:52Kiki Tyler: It was just very magical.
- 16:53Kiki Tyler: The first two weeks I was great, but that third week is when you start to either fall off or it like clicks and there was a little bit of resistance.
- 17:00Kiki Tyler: Life got busy and it's not long.
- 17:02Kiki Tyler: It's like five, 10 minute scan, five, 10 minute scan.
- 17:05Kiki Tyler: It's not taking hours upon hours to do.
- 17:08Kiki Tyler: And getting regular sessions, depending on what you're working through once a month might be enough.
- 17:14Kiki Tyler: Once a week might be needed and it can ebb and flow.
- 17:18Kiki Tyler: I had a woman, she was going in for a medical procedure.
- 17:22Kiki Tyler: And she reached out to me the night before, and she was like, do you have time to squeeze me in for a session?
- 17:26Kiki Tyler: I want to go in really relaxed.
- 17:28Kiki Tyler: I want this to work.
- 17:30Kiki Tyler: And we had a beautiful session.
- 17:32Kiki Tyler: She slept great.
- 17:33Kiki Tyler: And the procedure went really well.
- 17:36Kiki Tyler: And it took, she said, 10 times better than the last time she had the same procedure.
- 17:40Kiki Tyler: Her body was in a more relaxed state.
- 17:42Kiki Tyler: She was well rested.
- 17:44Kiki Tyler: And she took that opportunity to take care of herself.
- 17:47Kiki Tyler: And now she's recovering.
- 17:49Carmen Hecox: So if someone is interested in doing Reiki, do you have to do so many sessions first to fine tune your body and then you can do maintenance type stuff?
- 17:59Carmen Hecox: Or how does that work?
- 18:01Kiki Tyler: It's like a doctor and a patient.
- 18:02Kiki Tyler: Every patient's different.
- 18:04Kiki Tyler: I always like to start out at least with one session.
- 18:06Kiki Tyler: You know, that's our chance to connect energetically, see how you like it, see if we're a good match.
- 18:11Kiki Tyler: And then from there, we talk about at the end, how did you like that?
- 18:15Kiki Tyler: How often would you like to be seen?
- 18:17Kiki Tyler: How much support do you need?
- 18:19Kiki Tyler: And it will vary.
- 18:21Kiki Tyler: So I've had people come to me with worthiness.
- 18:24Kiki Tyler: You know, self worth that might take a little longer depending on how deep those roots are, but peeling back those layers, releasing wherever that root cause is in the body, in the mind, in the spirit.
- 18:36Kiki Tyler: Imposter syndrome I mentioned inner child wounds those come up a lot.
- 18:40Kiki Tyler: You know, when, women wanting to use their voice and step into their power, like a lot of throat chakra blocks come up.
- 18:46Kiki Tyler: So depending on how far back and how long they've been experiencing it, that kind of plays into how often we meet.
- 18:54Carmen Hecox: Can you share a story of a patient of yours or a client of yours that came in and had that disconnect.
- 19:01Carmen Hecox: And just came to you as a last resort.
- 19:03Carmen Hecox: I've just don't know what's wrong with me.
- 19:05Carmen Hecox: I'm fed up with life.
- 19:07Carmen Hecox: And at the end found that they were able to reconnect.
- 19:12Kiki Tyler: Yes.
- 19:12Kiki Tyler: I had a woman and, she just received a promotion.
- 19:16Kiki Tyler: She thought she would be over the moon and she felt less than empty, like the opposite of what she had pictured she would feel once she hit this like amazing stepping stone in her career.
- 19:27Kiki Tyler: Great life, great significant other kids house, like great car, all the things.
- 19:32Kiki Tyler: And she's like, I'm empty.
- 19:34Kiki Tyler: And I shouldn't like her guilt and shame was at an all time high.
- 19:37Kiki Tyler: So we did a combination Reiki sound session.
- 19:40Kiki Tyler: I was like, let's just go in for a general healing.
- 19:43Kiki Tyler: Let's give you space and grace to work through this.
- 19:46Kiki Tyler: Like, feel free to turn your mind off, just kind of go into your body.
- 19:50Kiki Tyler: And I was playing different bowls.
- 19:52Kiki Tyler: I was drawn a lot to the root chakra,"the I am." So we were working with identity, heart chakra, but more so for self love and self compassion, not necessarily love for others, but loving herself and the throat chakra.
- 20:06Kiki Tyler: Those were the three bowls that I kept going back to the most throughout the session.
- 20:09Kiki Tyler: And when we got to the end and she came back to her body, she had this big smile on her face.
- 20:15Kiki Tyler: The tears were still flowing, but she was like, that is exactly what I needed.
- 20:19Kiki Tyler: I have more guidance and clarity so she received messages that she needed.
- 20:23Kiki Tyler: I was like, okay, what are you going to do to celebrate?
- 20:26Kiki Tyler: And it was raining.
- 20:26Kiki Tyler: We had a big thunderstorm here and where she was as well.
- 20:30Kiki Tyler: So I'm going to go dance in the rain.
- 20:32Kiki Tyler: I'm going to go dance in the rain.
- 20:34Kiki Tyler: I am so happy.
- 20:35Kiki Tyler: So she reconnected with like one of her inner ones.
- 20:38Kiki Tyler: And she's like, I used to love dancing.
- 20:40Kiki Tyler: I want to play.
- 20:42Kiki Tyler: And she hadn't been doing fun things.
- 20:45Kiki Tyler: There was no play or fun for herself anywhere.
- 20:48Kiki Tyler: So that was one of the other messages that dropped in, like, have more fun.
- 20:51Kiki Tyler: You might need to be here for a little bit before you can do what you want to do, but you can still have fun along the way.
- 20:56Carmen Hecox: So, is that like just that one session and all of a sudden she's just felt lifted?
- 21:01Kiki Tyler: Yes, yeah.
- 21:03Kiki Tyler: She reached out to me another two or three weeks later, wanted to schedule another session.
- 21:06Kiki Tyler: So, we've been seeing each other once a month.
- 21:09Kiki Tyler: I have another client who wants to see me weekly.
- 21:11Kiki Tyler: So we're seeing each other weekly.
- 21:12Kiki Tyler: So, I mean, I like to meet the people where they are with where they feel they need and that I feel we're making progress and maybe they've healed that issue that they might come with another one or they might need a break.
- 21:24Kiki Tyler: You know, they say that the teacher appears when the student is ready.
- 21:27Kiki Tyler: I feel like the Reiki healer appears when the person is ready for it as well.
- 21:32Kiki Tyler: Like, I'm not here to convince anyone.
- 21:35Kiki Tyler: But if it's been showing up in your radar and you've been hearing about Reiki or sound healing multiple times, let's say try it.
- 21:41Kiki Tyler: What have you got to lose?
- 21:42Carmen Hecox: Exactly, what are the common misconceptions about Reiki that you'd like to address?
- 21:47Kiki Tyler: Excellent question.
- 21:49Kiki Tyler: So the number one thing that I hear is Reiki is a religion and it's not.
- 21:56Kiki Tyler: Reiki has no affiliation with any deity or any religious construct out there.
- 22:03Kiki Tyler: It is spiritual.
- 22:05Kiki Tyler: So it is not connected to any belief system.
- 22:09Kiki Tyler: It is neither negative or positive.
- 22:11Kiki Tyler: It is universal life force.
- 22:13Kiki Tyler: So whether you're a teacher or whether you've had a certification or even a session, we all have access to Reiki within us.
- 22:20Kiki Tyler: Maybe 25 or 30 percent.
- 22:22Kiki Tyler: And going to one of these certifications, whether it be virtual or in person, you receive an attunement.
- 22:28Kiki Tyler: So your channel gets wider and wider.
- 22:31Kiki Tyler: But if you ever think about, you ever scrape your knee or fall off your bike or you bump your head and you immediately put your hands on it, or your mom comes over and kisses it, that's, that's in essence Reiki.
- 22:41Kiki Tyler: Or if you drive by and you see an accident, you sent your, oh, they're okay.
- 22:45Kiki Tyler: You're sending them Reiki, you know, positive vibes, good energy.
- 22:50Kiki Tyler: And that is the number one thing that I hear is that it's a religion.
- 22:53Kiki Tyler: So it's not and it's a great compliment to religion.
- 22:57Kiki Tyler: It's not evil.
- 22:59Kiki Tyler: It's not against any belief system.
- 23:02Kiki Tyler: It's not against any medical practices.
- 23:04Kiki Tyler: It in and of itself is just there.
- 23:06Kiki Tyler: And you can tap into it whenever you need it or want it.
- 23:10Kiki Tyler: Either by yourself or with a practitioner.
- 23:13Carmen Hecox: So it's kind of like, if your friend knows that you've gone through something.
- 23:17Carmen Hecox: And they'll say, either by text, or if they're right next to you, they'll say, let me hug you.
- 23:22Carmen Hecox: Because they want to give you their compassionate feeling, to help you get over whatever it is that you're going through.
- 23:30Kiki Tyler: Yes.
- 23:31Kiki Tyler: It's a great example.
- 23:33Kiki Tyler: Holding space, that compassion, not, not the pity, not the, oh, I'm so sorry, but I'm going to hold space.
- 23:37Kiki Tyler: You tell me what you need.
- 23:38Kiki Tyler: And just being there.
- 23:40Carmen Hecox: So you talked about Reiki and sound healing.
- 23:43Carmen Hecox: Which one's better?
- 23:44Kiki Tyler: Both.
- 23:47Kiki Tyler: They're great compliments.
- 23:48Kiki Tyler: They're great standalones.
- 23:49Kiki Tyler: Some people are more open to the sound healing.
- 23:51Kiki Tyler: I find if they can feel it, they can hear it.
- 23:54Kiki Tyler: They can touch the instrument.
- 23:55Kiki Tyler: Some people like to come up and play them with me either before or after.
- 23:58Kiki Tyler: And that might be a good starting point.
- 24:01Kiki Tyler: And a lot of times, I set up crystal grids and I'm sending Reiki during my sound baths and sound healings.
- 24:07Kiki Tyler: And it will only go to those who are open to it.
- 24:10Kiki Tyler: So I'm not forcing anything.
- 24:13Kiki Tyler: And you know, I have some girlfriends and I'm like, I'm going to send a ball of Reiki energy to you.
- 24:16Kiki Tyler: You can tap in it'll be above you whenever you need it.
- 24:19Kiki Tyler: Same thing in a sound healing session.
- 24:21Kiki Tyler: So I do them virtually and sometimes I'll have people message in the chat if they want it.
- 24:26Kiki Tyler: So I, you know, I can send it to specific people or if they want to send me a message about something specific they're working on.
- 24:33Kiki Tyler: But I have done a few in person as well, and we usually pull cards, and I have people put it at their feet if they don't want Reiki and they're just there for the sound, or at their head if they want both Reiki and sound.
- 24:46Kiki Tyler: So energy, and Reiki energy specifically, is very permission based.
- 24:51Kiki Tyler: So your higher self would block the energy if you didn't need it or want it, which is really, I think is pretty awesome.
- 24:59Carmen Hecox: So basically what you're saying is when you say that someone needs to be open to it, so let's say I hired you to do a Reiki session with me.
- 25:09Carmen Hecox: So in my heart, I believe that the session between Kiki and I is going to help me overcome this obstacle.
- 25:18Carmen Hecox: As opposed to, I'm going to hire Kiki, but I know that this stuff doesn't really work.
- 25:23Kiki Tyler: Exactly.
- 25:24Kiki Tyler: Yes.
- 25:24Kiki Tyler: I had a woman come to one of my sound baths and she was very skeptical about Reiki.
- 25:29Kiki Tyler: She was trying to decide where to put her card.
- 25:30Kiki Tyler: And if she wanted it, she shared a similar situation.
- 25:33Kiki Tyler: She went to a practitioner.
- 25:35Kiki Tyler: She didn't feel anything.
- 25:36Kiki Tyler: She didn't feel like she got what she wanted out of it.
- 25:39Kiki Tyler: And the responsibility is really on the client.
- 25:42Kiki Tyler: Where do you want it?
- 25:43Kiki Tyler: Do you want it?
- 25:43Kiki Tyler: Are you open to it?
- 25:45Kiki Tyler: And are you ready for it?
- 25:47Kiki Tyler: So I put it on her very gently and said, what would you like out of Reiki tonight?
- 25:51Kiki Tyler: Do you want to rest and relax?
- 25:53Kiki Tyler: Are you looking for pain relief?
- 25:54Kiki Tyler: What do you need?
- 25:56Kiki Tyler: And do you just want the sound healing or do you want both?
- 25:59Kiki Tyler: So she wanted both.
- 26:00Kiki Tyler: Went around the room and as I was hovering, and laying hands on different people, I was drawn to her, spent a little extra time.
- 26:08Kiki Tyler: Her shoulder and her knee hurt, get to the end and have share time, totally optional.
- 26:14Kiki Tyler: And she was floored.
- 26:15Kiki Tyler: She was like, oh my God, how did you know it was my shoulder?
- 26:17Kiki Tyler: And I just had a knee issue and that was amazing.
- 26:20Kiki Tyler: And I, like, I could feel the pain leaving my body.
- 26:23Kiki Tyler: So, if you're open to it, it will work.
- 26:26Kiki Tyler: But if you go in and you're skeptical, you're already blocking the energy from flowing to you.
- 26:30Carmen Hecox: So, help me understand this, if I understood this correctly, so could it have been that the pain that you had in your back when you were first exposed to Reiki and sound healing and this woman that she had pain in her shoulder and pain in her knee, could it have been that maybe it wasn't necessarily an injury or induced by the body saying, you over did this or that.
- 26:55Carmen Hecox: And maybe it was more of inner peace that there was no inner peace.
- 27:00Carmen Hecox: There was something more spiritually that, was causing pain in those certain parts of people's body, yours and hers.
- 27:07Kiki Tyler: 100%.
- 27:08Kiki Tyler: That is your body really trying to scream for attention.
- 27:11Kiki Tyler: Like something's missing.
- 27:12Kiki Tyler: It's getting your attention in any way possible.
- 27:15Kiki Tyler: I also believe that we have trapped emotions.
- 27:18Kiki Tyler: And trauma I don't get into the levels because I don't feel that, but you could stub your toe and that's trauma.
- 27:24Kiki Tyler: You know, you could have verbally abusive relationship that's trauma.
- 27:28Kiki Tyler: Reiki and, sound healing don't care what level or where it came from.
- 27:31Kiki Tyler: They just want to release it and help you get it out of your body and out of your tissues.
- 27:35Kiki Tyler: And yeah, the low back pain I had been experiencing a lot throughout all the grief.
- 27:41Kiki Tyler: So, and that's where I was holding it.
- 27:43Kiki Tyler: Low back pain, particularly on the left side, is also like worry about finances.
- 27:47Kiki Tyler: There's a book, Heal Your Body, and it's not meant to be read cover to cover, but it's more a, you have a pain in your body or a certain area of your body what is that trying to tell you?
- 27:57Kiki Tyler: What could it be attached to?
- 27:59Kiki Tyler: So I also reference that in talking with clients where are you feeling this?
- 28:04Kiki Tyler: Let's see if any of this resonates.
- 28:06Kiki Tyler: And I share it, and it's up to them if they want to share what they're connecting of their dots, or if they want to keep it personal.
- 28:14Kiki Tyler: So, and anything shared with me stays in our sessions.
- 28:17Kiki Tyler: And I don't discuss people's names in the future.
- 28:19Kiki Tyler: Very similar to a therapist
- 28:21Carmen Hecox: So tell me, you as the healer, what do you experience after a Reiki session?
- 28:27Kiki Tyler: Afterwards.
- 28:28Kiki Tyler: I'm usually really thirsty and, I get Reiki sessions for myself.
- 28:33Kiki Tyler: One for every 10 sessions that I give to make sure my cup is full and I'm coming from a good place.
- 28:39Kiki Tyler: And, I get a little bit of Reiki as the energy is flowing through me as well.
- 28:43Kiki Tyler: So I kind of get a little top off.
- 28:45Kiki Tyler: So I usually sleep really well.
- 28:47Kiki Tyler: Um, I do grounding exercises.
- 28:49Kiki Tyler: I get my feet outside in the grass.
- 28:51Kiki Tyler: Uh, Epsom salt baths, and just really focused on staying hydrated the next day or so.
- 28:56Kiki Tyler: And it's the same advice I give the client.
- 28:58Kiki Tyler: Because even though it didn't feel like you did anything, or if you fell asleep for that hour, energetically, there were a lot of shifts that happened.
- 29:06Kiki Tyler: So you could feel like you worked out for three hours.
- 29:08Kiki Tyler: You're that tired because energetically you were doing a lot of releasing it.
- 29:15Carmen Hecox: Yeah, because I can imagine, being a Reiki master as yourself.
- 29:19Carmen Hecox: It's kind of like being a mom, where you're just, taking care of everybody else, but you need to also take care of yourself as well.
- 29:27Kiki Tyler: yes.
- 29:27Kiki Tyler: And I will say in the beginning, when I started offering sessions, I was not as diligent about getting them for myself.
- 29:34Kiki Tyler: And I did hit that wall and I was, I won't even say burnt out, but just really energetically exhausted.
- 29:39Kiki Tyler: It was hard for me to hold that space.
- 29:42Kiki Tyler: And then as soon as I got that session, I was like, oh yeah, I'm not gonna not take care of myself again.
- 29:47Kiki Tyler: This is, this is what good feels like.
- 29:49Kiki Tyler: This is kind of where I want to be on a regular basis.
- 29:52Carmen Hecox: So, how long is a typical Reiki session?
- 29:55Kiki Tyler: So I have clients book an hour and I'm usually sending for about 40, 45 minutes.
- 30:00Kiki Tyler: And that leaves a little bit of talk at the beginning and then share time at the end.
- 30:04Kiki Tyler: And then, uh, for those that like the combination, they'd like to book 90 minutes.
- 30:07Kiki Tyler: So they get the Reiki and then I transition and it's usually 20 to 30 minutes of sound healing at the end.
- 30:13Carmen Hecox: And, you are a virtual healer, is that correct?
- 30:16Kiki Tyler: Yes, right now.
- 30:17Kiki Tyler: And throughout the pandemic, I've assisted clients a hundred percent virtual.
- 30:22Kiki Tyler: I've had done a few sound baths in person recently.
- 30:25Kiki Tyler: But yes, I am connected to women all over the globe.
- 30:28Kiki Tyler: And it's awesome.
- 30:29Carmen Hecox: But let's just add here, whether it's virtual or in person, the benefit is still the same?
- 30:35Kiki Tyler: Correct.
- 30:35Kiki Tyler: 100% yes.
- 30:37Kiki Tyler: It, crosses time and distance.
- 30:39Kiki Tyler: I know you had asked about what a session looks like and some I would get on zoom, but there are women that we can't make our schedules work, but they know they need it so I can send it into the future at a time that worked for them.
- 30:49Kiki Tyler: But maybe I had another client and it will arrive when they need it too.
- 30:53Kiki Tyler: And I have also sent it to myself in the past when I knew I needed it and it's, it's very much like that movie Inception where you're like, wow.
- 31:02Kiki Tyler: And I remember being in certain stages where I felt better and I didn't know why.
- 31:07Kiki Tyler: And it's because my future self was sending Reiki back in time.
- 31:10Carmen Hecox: Interesting.
- 31:11Carmen Hecox: That's very interesting.
- 31:12Kiki Tyler: Yes, quantum healing is a lot of fun.
- 31:16Carmen Hecox: And, do you practice different types of Reiki?
- 31:19Kiki Tyler: Yes.
- 31:19Kiki Tyler: So, Usui is the traditional that relaxation originating in Japan.
- 31:24Kiki Tyler: I mentioned celtic reiki, taps into nature and the power of the trees.
- 31:29Kiki Tyler: Uh, I also practice dragon reiki we're calling the power of the dragons.
- 31:35Kiki Tyler: So if I have a client who's really, you know, we've been working on something for a long time and she's, we've released what we can and it's just really tough and stubborn.
- 31:42Kiki Tyler: A lot of times I'll call them the dragons and we can just burn it down, get to the root of it and release it for good.
- 31:48Kiki Tyler: And that's where that dragon energy comes in.
- 31:51Kiki Tyler: And another one that I practice is called Huna Reiki, H U N A, for like big island love.
- 31:57Kiki Tyler: So think of Hawaii and just that island, that everybody is so gracious and warm and welcoming and you're just enveloped in this happiness and this island vibe and it's very relaxing.
- 32:10Kiki Tyler: And each one has like different music and try to give it a different feel so you know.
- 32:15Carmen Hecox: And so how can people get in touch with you?
- 32:18Kiki Tyler: Yes, email, website, I'm on Facebook, I'm on Instagram, and yeah, I offer 30 minute consultations.
- 32:25Kiki Tyler: If you want to chat, make sure we're a good match.
- 32:27Kiki Tyler: Have any questions you want answered before diving in.
- 32:30Kiki Tyler: So I hop on zoom so you can see me and we can talk and soul to soul connect.
- 32:36Kiki Tyler: I'm sure it's a good fit.
- 32:38Carmen Hecox: Well, you know, I will say that every time I talk with you, because this is the second time we've, chatted, there's just so much positive energy that I get from you.
- 32:46Carmen Hecox: There's just so much calmness and positive,
- 32:49Kiki Tyler: Thank you.
- 32:50Carmen Hecox: That's how I feel.
- 32:51Carmen Hecox: I don't know if the listeners or the viewers can feel your positive energy that I'm feeling right now but there's just a certain peace that I get from you.
- 32:59Carmen Hecox: So what advice would you give somebody out there who is tried everything and it's feeling a little like they've kind of hit the wall and they don't know where to go next?
- 33:10Kiki Tyler: I would say I understand that feeling because I was, I was there, especially with the grief and the pain.
- 33:16Kiki Tyler: And it's not one I don't, we talk about enough or are taught how to process.
- 33:22Kiki Tyler: And grief can be anything.
- 33:24Kiki Tyler: It doesn't have to be a loss of life.
- 33:25Kiki Tyler: It could be the kids leaving and going to school and now you're an empty nester.
- 33:28Kiki Tyler: It could be a divorce.
- 33:29Kiki Tyler: It could be the loss of a job.
- 33:31Kiki Tyler: There are so many different versions of grief.
- 33:34Kiki Tyler: But space and grace and giving yourself time.
- 33:39Kiki Tyler: Cause I was always in a rush.
- 33:41Kiki Tyler: I have to fix this.
- 33:41Kiki Tyler: I want to feel better now.
- 33:43Kiki Tyler: And just kind of taking that break and being easy on myself is what really helped.
- 33:51Kiki Tyler: Um, I don't know about you, but I'm my own worst critic and tend to be the hardest on myself.
- 33:57Kiki Tyler: Like I should be able to figure this out.
- 33:59Kiki Tyler: I can't believe I haven't figured this out.
- 34:00Kiki Tyler: Right.
- 34:00Kiki Tyler: And then we, we start that spiral, which isn't productive and isn't getting us to where we want to be, which is that good feeling place.
- 34:08Kiki Tyler: And surrounding yourself with like minded women, whether that's women who are in the exact same spot and are feeling the same way.
- 34:15Kiki Tyler: And we're more alike than we are different, and we don't, I don't think we realize it enough.
- 34:21Kiki Tyler: And one of the things that I've learned in just this virtual and digital community is just having more of those heartfelt conversations.
- 34:28Kiki Tyler: And it can be scary starting at initiating conversation with strangers, but I have some best friends now that I didn't know two or three years ago.
- 34:35Kiki Tyler: And we check on each other.
- 34:37Kiki Tyler: You know, we're accountability buddies.
- 34:38Kiki Tyler: And you might have that friend where you go to and you tell her where you're feeling and it's not great and they might want to sit in it and kind of talk about it too much.
- 34:46Kiki Tyler: And that's not a bad thing.
- 34:48Kiki Tyler: But I found that I've shifted to friends that are like, okay, here's where you are.
- 34:52Kiki Tyler: Here's where you want to be.
- 34:53Kiki Tyler: What's the plan?
- 34:54Kiki Tyler: How can we get you there?
- 34:55Kiki Tyler: And just brainstorming or even just giving you a different outlook, because I found that I was too close emotionally to what I was going through.
- 35:03Kiki Tyler: So I knew that my emotions were blocking a lot of the solutions.
- 35:07Kiki Tyler: So having other people, have you tried this?
- 35:10Kiki Tyler: What about this?
- 35:11Kiki Tyler: And I mean, that's how I even was invited to this wellness retreat and got introduced to Reiki and sound.
- 35:17Kiki Tyler: So being open to try new things that maybe you were skeptical about might not be the worst thing.
- 35:24Carmen Hecox: And, Reiki is a form of self-care.
- 35:27Carmen Hecox: It's not being selfish, it's self-care.
- 35:30Kiki Tyler: hundred percent absolutely.
- 35:32Carmen Hecox: It's, it's sharpening your blade, as I always say.
- 35:35Kiki Tyler: Ooh, I like that.
- 35:37Carmen Hecox: Yeah, sharpening your blade, because you certainly can't cut with a dull blade.
- 35:42Kiki Tyler: No, it's very messy.
- 35:47Carmen Hecox: I will make sure to include all your information, your links, your social.
- 35:53Carmen Hecox: All everything, you guys need to be sharpened by Kiki.
- 35:57Carmen Hecox: Like I said, I feel so much power just talking to her.
- 36:00Carmen Hecox: There's a sense of peace, calmness.
- 36:02Carmen Hecox: I feel great.
- 36:03Carmen Hecox: And, I hope you guys can feel it too, but I will include all of your information on my show notes and, thank you so much for being on the show.
- 36:12Kiki Tyler: Thank you for having me.
- 36:13Kiki Tyler: This was a delightful conversation.
- 36:15Kiki Tyler: It's been my honor.
