- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: You can't be too rigid, but you do have to be aware.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: If there are certain things that allow you to feel like you, they must come and be part of a trip.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: Have to.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: And if not, you get to find something that can be selling part of your trip that helps you.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the be it till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor and fitness business coach.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: My friends, action brings clarity.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_02]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it until you see it.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, we debate.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: So in our habits series, I thought it would be really important to have a couple bonuses.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: And if there's topics that you want me to cover about habits that I haven't yet, please send it in to thebeepod.com slash questions.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: We would love to hear.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to do a bonus on habits for when you're traveling.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then also have another bonus episode on how I habits that are more like health and movement related.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: If you are new to this podcast, hello, I'm most of the отвaciate.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: And this is the bonus of a series.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I do want you to go back to the beginning of the series.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: That way you can see here Amy Ladine and I talk about habits as a recap of the so-called Brad and I on Habits.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then there are
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: truly six episodes that have to do with like actual creation of Hammett.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: So this is more of a bonus, like once you know how to create habits, then this will be helpful.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you can totally start here because it's your life.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: Do what you want.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: I travel a lot and I am someone who, when I crave a little bit of certainty, we all do, you know, we have there are six needs and one of them, we all have a certainty.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: We also crave uncertainty.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: So that's super cool.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: But so I love to travel, but I also love my routines.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: My routines are just habits that I have created over time that help me show up for me.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: In the last episode, I talked about how, like my morning habits and my night habits or the reason why I can show up for work.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot sit down at this computer.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a computer person.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how I end up creating a job where I'm at a computer all the time.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: But I am at the computer all the time.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: And it means that if I'm going to sit here and look at a screen all day, that I actually need to do things that help me feel like I have the energy, the clarity, the ability to lead.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: and see things through a vision of what I want, a beat, I see it mindset, I have to have habits to help me with that, right?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: So that means what when I travel, then what do I do?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: Do I just stop all of them?
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: No, because I'm someone who's body craves, who's mind craves, the routines that I've created for myself while I'm on the road.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, yes, there's absolutely vacations and reasons to take vacations in your whole life.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I promise you, have you ever been on a vacation
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: And you start to like, not feel anxious that you want to go home, but just like there's a few things you need that would make this even better.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: So for me, there are certain habits that I really do research to see if they're possible while I travel.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: So in order to share that with you, I will say like, there are obviously I can't do all my habits when I travel.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: But I do have an awareness of which habits do make the most
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: They've had the most effect on my life.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: And so that takes some time in curiosity, also when you travel, not doing some of your habits a lot should have realized which one you miss.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: So something I will share with you is you're gonna get it wrong.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: You're the trips you're gonna take.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: After listening to some of them will have the habits you want and some of them won't and you'll realize that.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Some will have ones you're like, I actually could have not done that.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: That caused more stress than it was worth.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: So always, always, always reflecting, refining and continuing.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: on after each trip to help you make the next trip better.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be really important.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's also really important to recognize like these are habits, but they're not a control system.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: So if ever any of these things are feeling they're controlling you in your vacation, it's probably worth exploring what's going on, what's behind that.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's not something I'm going to expert in, but I have worked with many clients.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: I do love to work out when I travel.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: It does make me feel better.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'll share more about in a moment, but I've had clients that when they travel that not be able to work out as much as they normally do and have control over their food has gotten to an unhealthy level where it's no longer serving them.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: And so I would just one of the best things you can ask yourself like, is this serving me?
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't episode with Anthony Menonati.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: I talk about there's no such thing as something that's good or bad when it comes to things you do for your life, it's just like, it's a serving, you are not serving you.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: And so I would definitely explore that with your vacations and that requires some self-awareness and some time reflecting on who you are and how you are being on your trip.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's worth it.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's worth it.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, you're just like mindlessly going through life and that's boring and you're not going to be able to be able to say it to anything that way.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: All right, here's a deal.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm traveling by plane versus traveling by car, it makes a big difference.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: So if I'm traveling like I'm driving, obviously I can bring more things.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: So when I can bring more things, I actually do keep some of a lot of my habits.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Also with my nighttime habits for first.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: Often I do a red light routine, either on my face and neck or I have a body mat that I do.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: I love to read at night.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: Those are really important things to me.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: I do love a little synthetic drainage tool that I have and depending on the night I might even wash my hair, right?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: So if I'm driving, I can actually bring all those things.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I can keep all my evening habits.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: I also play certain music before I fall asleep.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: If you want a really great book about like sleeping, there's a by Ariana Huffington, I think it's just called sleep.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: And you talk about the importance of a sleep routine.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: A sleep routine is just habits that you've created that help you.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: But it lets my brain know that I'm getting ready for sleep.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: right.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: I also at night before I go to bed lay out the clothes for the next day's movement, so they're already out.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: Especially if I'm in a hotel or I'm in the van on tour, Brad is asleep.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't want any lights to wake him up too early.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I pull those clothes out so it's so much easier for me at home.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: Believe it or not.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: I pull those clothes out because I do my morning routine starts in our extra bathroom.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I just put them out in that extra bathroom.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I can do all of my nighttime routines if I'm traveling by car.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: My morning routines, if I'm traveling by car, depend on the weather, I can do a lot of my morning routines.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: I can go for a morning walk, right?
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: If I have got the dog, it's a requirement.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: I can often go to a gym, especially on tour.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: We usually sleep in,
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: a parking lot that belongs to a gymside can do that.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: I can get in while it won't be a quick memorialized.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: I can get in a map Pilates session there.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: I won't be able to do like my shake plate or my coal plunge.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: The coal plunge is something that I do let go of on a retreat.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not driving around trying to find a place that's got a coal plunge.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's just something has to go.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: And you'll, you'll, but maybe not for you.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe for you, you're saying a hotel.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: You get ice buckets.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: You put them in the tub and you have an ice bet.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there are always ways to get around to different habits you want to have.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: But typically, especially if I'm on tour or my hotel, I'm just like, I'm not.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's just a memo let go.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: It does mean I don't start the morning off with a giant rush, but there it is.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: I also, when I travel, if I travel by car, I'll bring my morning books that you've heard me talk about, and as part of my morning routine, if I'm probably my plane, depending on how much space I have, I will bring one book.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_01]: If I can't bring one book, then I take a picture of one book's daily messages, and I'll open up the photo on that day and read it.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: I have a book like Journey to the Heart and I have a couple others like that you are a big leap year and then this other one and I like to read one entry of each of those in the morning.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes they are saying the exact same thing and I feel like it's like a wonderful terror reading but when I travel I just only do one.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: And I share this with you because it's important that you know that you can actually tie-trate these habits when you travel.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: So you're not being so strict with yourself.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: So if I normally read three of them at home when I'm traveling, because you know, everything just takes a little bit longer when you travel.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like it takes longer to get that coffee.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: It takes longer to go find the food.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't have as much extra time.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just read one entry and I'll have a picture of it if I don't have the space.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I will, my workouts won't always be as long when I'm on the road than when they are at home because again, I don't have access to everything that I have.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: So one of the things I want to highlight if you're listening to like this who's like, I don't really care about your routine.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: The number of minutes I dedicate to part of my routine will change often there less.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: But I still get to keep the habit and routine.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: which helps me feel like myself, and so when you're traveling, whether it's by car or playing, I would just like map out like, okay, do what, which of, which of my habits do I think serve me the most and how possible are those?
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: Some other things that I'm really intentional about when I travel is like,
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: The hotel we choose does it have a gym.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: If it doesn't have a gym, is there another hotel?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's in the same range of price that we're looking at.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: That has a gym.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: Do any of these hotels have relationships with a gym?
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: Can, is there a gym nearby that I compared drop in feet too?
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: So that is something but when I'm planning trips that I'm very conscious of, not because I'm someone who's obsessed with working out, because I'm someone who's obsessed with how I feel after I've moved my body.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very intentional.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't take a lot of police classes because I personally like to do self-led workouts even if there's a teacher watching.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: I just I prefer that for myself and my practice right now.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not looking up Pilates studios, but you might, right?
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: You might be like, oh my goodness, like I love going to class.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: Right, these are things it's okay to be like, you know what I need in the morning?
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: I need a really great cashy milk latte and a yoga class.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: Great, look for her cashy milk latte's in an area.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: Then look for if there's a yoga studio nearby and then look for the hotel that's near that.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Done.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really intentional about when I plan a trip.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't try to fit my routines under the trip.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: I actually plan the trip around my routines.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: And that's part of being able to tell you see it.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's also how you can maintain a lot of your habits while you're gone.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: Then here's the cool thing, when you come back, because you kept several of the habits, the routines you have, those things are often prompts for things you didn't do while you're gone, but that's still in your brain.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, after I work out, I get on my shake plate or I stretch over here, I get it from my red light.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: It will all come back because,
- 10:57[SPEAKER_01]: one, your mindset around is positive and to your bringing the prompts back in.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: If you are like, oh my gosh, I came back from a trip lesson.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: It was really hard for me to get back to one of my habits.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: Then I would love for you to go back to this whole series.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: One, let's make sure it's a habit you want to have.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Two,
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: is it at the time that you want to do in three is a prompt clear you might have to actually kind of start that one back over maybe needs a more celebration around it till it sticks a little heavy year you know I've been honest like I started a new habit and who hobby I should say a new hobby and hobbies are also habits or just things that we decide to do and
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Something that I would, because of my travel schedule, I've been trying to figure out as like, when is the best time for me to do this habit?
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: When I'm at home, I can do it at night.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: When I'm on the road, can I still do it?
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oh gosh, we have dinner with people every single night.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, that's a little harder to do.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: So should I be doing it?
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I have lunch, should I be doing it when I pull my computer out?
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I am still trying to figure out that when this hobby can be done.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: When I'm at home, this hobby is a little easier for me to put in the night routine like after I get home from the gym.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: I can work on this little hobby that I have.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: I really like it's quite easy for me to add in to the day.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Just when I travel, I find I'm having a little bit of trouble with it.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: I could also not do it when I travel and have a totally fine.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: Is it serving me?
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Is it distracting for my trip?
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: Is it making my day too full?
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, these are things we have to understand.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: So when you travel and you will travel, it's really important that you are aware and this is going to come from self-reflection, which parts of your day help you feel the most filled up.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: What are some of the, if you, I'm not, I'm not gonna, if you have a specific type of tea, if you have it every morning, you just have the best day, and when you don't have it, you have a shit day, then you, oh, it's here, self-tafair, how do I have this best tea?
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: And then maybe while you're on a trip, you start something new.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I had on my retreat, one of the girls on my retreat, she was going to,
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: a cute little coffee shop every single morning, and she was doing her journaling.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: And then one day it was closed, and she was like, oh, it's not there.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I guess I'll go to this other place to do it.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: And instead, she took the best part of the of the place that she was going to, and she created it on our patio.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: And the coolest thing about that you guys is she can do that at home.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, oh, I could just do this at the house.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: So sometimes when you're on a trip, you discover something that you're like, if I could have this in my life every single day.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's why it's important, like, some of my habits don't come with me, because it opens up space for me to explore things that are are lighting me up.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: Or, allows me to go, wow, I really miss that thing.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: So then I'm really intentional when I'm at home to never miss it.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: And then maybe I have to consider bringing it along for the ride on the next trip.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: I hope this is making sense.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that you're understanding, like, you can't be too rigid, but you do have to be aware.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: If there are certain things that allow you to feel like you, they must come and be part of a trip.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: Have to.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: And if not, you gotta find something that can be some part of your trip that helps you.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I get on planes all the time.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I see people pull out all these little tools.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like people do the face mat.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand that.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't work for me.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that I care about on a plane.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: But I can't tell you that I have set up on a plane.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's my sleep music so I can fall asleep on a plane because I have a hard time doing that.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: I absolutely have compression socks because that helps me feel good.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: So everything we do is I have it.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's also a choice.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: that is helping us, either get closer to the person trying to be a TOTC, or further away from it.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: So we got to have a healthy balance, a healthy push and pull of what are the things that I need to take with me on a trip?
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: What are the things I'm going to leave behind?
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then how do I feel like on that trip?
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, a lot of us are lucky enough that if while we're traveling, we go, oh my god, I can't believe I left that thing at home.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: I need it.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: In most cases, we can buy it.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there are places you can't get it, but in a lot of places, you could probably buy the thing that would make you feel like you.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm going to wrap this up with Windsor Next Trip.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: between now and then, can you get some reflection around what, some clarity I would say, around what habit you wanna take on that trip?
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then can you do the research to see if it's possible, right?
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then when you're on that trip, every single day, at the end of the day I went to the reflect, had that feel, had it go, oh, actually, I thought I could do this, and that actually didn't happen.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: So instead of it being a half an hour, I'm gonna do 15 minutes.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so I 15 minutes, I'm gonna do five.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, actually, I brought those running shoes, didn't run one single time, and you know what I realized I love running at home, but I don't like running on a trip.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, great.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: Now you know, it's really, you don't have to get this right.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: And in fact, getting it right is not how habits start in the first place.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: They start, they are created, they stick based on how they make you feel, and they have to make you feel good, because if they make you feel bad, your brain's going to avoid doing them.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: All right, loves.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Again, send your wins and send in the topics that you're wanting to hear how we can help you with your habits with that to be a pod.com slash questions and until next time, be a tell you see it.
