- 4:21Speaker 1: Good evening, Good evening, good evening. Welcome to another episode
- 4:26Speaker 1: of Delayed but Not Denied the podcast. Tonight, I don't
- 4:31Speaker 1: have a guest, but I did want to share a
- 4:35Speaker 1: story with you guys. But before I begin, let's pray
- 4:42Speaker 1: Heavenly Father, we come to you tonight asking you to
- 4:44Speaker 1: be in the midst of the conversation, asking you to
- 4:49Speaker 1: let it fall upon the ears they need to hear it,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and the hearts they need to receive it. These things
- 4:55Speaker 1: and all other things that we asking your son Jesus name,
- 4:59Speaker 1: we pray Amen. So tonight I want to talk to
- 5:04Speaker 1: you about knowing your body, knowing when you need to
- 5:14Speaker 1: put yourself your pride aside and go seek help. Go
- 5:19Speaker 1: to the doctor, let them help you. A week ago
- 5:26Speaker 1: I spent five days in the hospital fighting sepsis. If
- 5:32Speaker 1: you don't know what that is, let me tell you
- 5:35Speaker 1: what it is. Sepsis is a life threatening complication of
- 5:40Speaker 1: an infection. Sepsis occurs when chemicals released in the bloodstream
- 5:46Speaker 1: to fight and infects your trigger inflammation throughout the body.
- 5:50Speaker 1: This can cause a cascade of changes that damage multiple
- 5:54Speaker 1: organ systems, leading them to fail, sometimes even resulting in death.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Symptoms include fever, difficulty breathing, low blood pressure, fast heart rate,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and mental confusion. Treatment includes antibiotics and intravenous fluids. So, I,
- 6:18Speaker 1: because I was born with spina bifida, I have quite
- 6:25Speaker 1: a lot of issues dealing with my kidneys, with UTIs
- 6:32Speaker 1: and things of that nature.
- 6:35Speaker 2: This time it happened to be sepsis.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I was laying in my bed and I wasn't feeling well,
- 6:48Speaker 1: and this had gone on for quite a few days,
- 6:53Speaker 1: and I was just like, I know my body, I
- 6:57Speaker 1: know what it is. I'll just crease my water intake
- 7:01Speaker 1: and do some granberry juice and I'll be fine. And
- 7:08Speaker 1: that's not the case. So one night turned into two
- 7:15Speaker 1: and I got to a place where I started shaking uncontrollably.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I was hot, I was hot to the touch. My
- 7:29Speaker 1: heartbeat was just pit a pattering really fast. So I
- 7:38Speaker 1: told my daughter in law that I was feeling bad
- 7:45Speaker 1: and I didn't know, you know what it was, And
- 7:49Speaker 1: well I thought I knew what it was, and so
- 7:54Speaker 1: I felt like it was getting worse and I couldn't
- 7:56Speaker 1: take it. So we called the EMS and get me.
- 8:03Speaker 1: We get to the hospital and the doctors and the
- 8:11Speaker 1: nurses they were on me rather quickly. My fever had
- 8:19Speaker 1: spiked to one hundred and three. They did a urine
- 8:29Speaker 1: analysis and I didn't even recognize the color that my
- 8:35Speaker 1: body produced, which was weird because I had never been
- 8:42Speaker 1: that sick before. So they got me in. They ran tests,
- 8:51Speaker 1: they took blood, and then the doctor came in and.
- 9:02Speaker 2: He told me.
- 9:02Speaker 1: He said, you're a very fortunate young lady. He said,
- 9:06Speaker 1: you could have possibly died had you not come when
- 9:13Speaker 1: you came, He said, any later, and it would have
- 9:19Speaker 1: been a different ending. So I say that to say,
- 9:25Speaker 1: whenever you got something going on with your body, no
- 9:29Speaker 1: matter how much you think you know about your body,
- 9:33Speaker 1: because it's your body. If it doesn't feel right and
- 9:41Speaker 1: things feel out of pocket, go get help.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I'm here today.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Because I couldn't take it and I had to go
- 9:53Speaker 3: get help. Had I not gone to get help, I my.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Family would be playing my funeral.
- 10:07Speaker 1: During this hospital stay, I was awakened every few hours
- 10:16Speaker 1: for blood for them to check my temperature and.
- 10:23Speaker 2: My heart rate. My heart rate and my temperature.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Is what.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Caused them to keep me. They said that my heart
- 10:33Speaker 2: rate was.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Up higher than it needed to be and they were
- 10:39Speaker 1: concerned about it and my temperature. I stayed at one
- 10:45Speaker 1: hundred and three for quite a while before anything that
- 10:50Speaker 1: they gave me would break. It was It was crazy.
- 10:56Speaker 1: I have had real bad headaches in my life, but
- 11:01Speaker 1: none compared to what I just dealt with.
- 11:06Speaker 2: What I just overcame.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And I'm reading the comments Travida, I'm grateful that I
- 11:13Speaker 1: got there in time too.
- 11:15Speaker 2: I have so much to live for.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And you can't play with your life. You don't You
- 11:27Speaker 1: don't know when it's your last time. And yes, miss Alma,
- 11:32Speaker 1: I did go and get help. I am supposed to
- 11:38Speaker 1: just be resting, so I am currently in bed. I
- 11:44Speaker 1: know you guys probably see the pillow behind me. I
- 11:49Speaker 1: don't really have the strength to do much more than
- 11:53Speaker 1: what I'm doing at the moment, but God does definitely
- 11:58Speaker 1: keep us when we don't know how to keep ourselves.
- 12:04Speaker 1: During the time that I was in the hospital, I
- 12:07Speaker 1: was also informed that my mom had fallen and she
- 12:16Speaker 1: was rushed to the hospital. I was told that she
- 12:19Speaker 1: had had a heart attack, which happened to not be
- 12:23Speaker 1: the case, but they did put a stint in her
- 12:27Speaker 1: heart to prevent I guess any future instances where a
- 12:38Speaker 1: heart attack could possibly take place My mom is eighty
- 12:42Speaker 1: four years old, and you know, she's just as hard
- 12:49Speaker 1: headed as I am when it comes to doctors.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Just for me.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I can't speak for her, but for me, it's the
- 12:59Speaker 1: way you can go in and they get you by
- 13:08Speaker 1: what they consider to be the worst case scenario. So
- 13:14Speaker 1: if somebody comes in with something worse than what you
- 13:19Speaker 1: got going on, then they're gonna take that person first.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And a lot of people don't understand that. There's the
- 13:28Speaker 1: conversation of I was here first, I've been here two
- 13:33Speaker 1: in three hours, nobody is come to check on me.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And that's what you deal with when you go to hospitals,
- 13:42Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So unless you have your
- 13:45Speaker 1: own private doctor that you can go to and you know,
- 13:52Speaker 1: be seen like that. But a lot of people who
- 13:55Speaker 1: don't have that, So you know, we have to go
- 14:01Speaker 1: to these hospitals and we have to basically wait our turn,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and most of them are overworked and understaffed. It's incredible
- 14:17Speaker 1: to see how many people you know, are needing emergency
- 14:23Speaker 1: care and there's not enough doctors and nurses to go around.
- 14:29Speaker 1: It's like it's not equivalent at all. The ratio is
- 14:33Speaker 1: just out of whack. But I am grateful. I'm thankful
- 14:41Speaker 1: that God spared my life. He didn't have to do it,
- 14:44Speaker 1: but he did. I was ready to. I guess check
- 14:50Speaker 1: out here. The pain level that I feel now is
- 14:58Speaker 1: nothing compared to what I was feeling while I was
- 15:02Speaker 1: in the hospital.
- 15:05Speaker 2: And yes, I.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Do understand the severity of the symptoms. It determines in
- 15:12Speaker 1: which order you're seen in. And a lot of people
- 15:15Speaker 1: feel like if they go on an ambulance, that's gonna
- 15:19Speaker 1: get them in there quicker, and it's not. It's definitely
- 15:23Speaker 1: not unless you are cold and blue and some other
- 15:30Speaker 1: things like you know that they would consider more important.
- 15:36Speaker 1: So just calling an ambulance, geting your stuff a three
- 15:39Speaker 1: thousand dollar bill just for the sake of and then
- 15:43Speaker 1: you're gonna get first, is uh not how that works.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So again, listen to your body. Allow yourself some grace.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I've been very hard on myself this week because I'm like,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I have people that I love and things that I
- 16:07Speaker 1: want to do, and you know, how did I allow
- 16:12Speaker 1: myself to get this bad? I don't know, but I'm here.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I'm making my way back to healthy. This extra weight
- 16:31Speaker 1: that I have gained is driving me bananas because it's
- 16:34Speaker 1: fluid and it feels like it's harder to come off
- 16:41Speaker 1: than regular just weight gain. But I am doing what
- 16:47Speaker 1: I was told and yester vida. That is the reason
- 16:55Speaker 1: why they check your vitals and your oxygen levels and
- 16:58Speaker 1: your blood pressure reading. And my blood pressure was really low.
- 17:02Speaker 2: They said.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And my oxygen, however, stayed at one hundred and my
- 17:11Speaker 1: heart rate was up. I'm trying to think of everything
- 17:16Speaker 1: that they said to me, because it was there is
- 17:21Speaker 1: no way that without God, I would be having this
- 17:27Speaker 1: conversation right now.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Because I waited, I really did. I thought that I
- 17:33Speaker 4: could wait it out. I thought that if I just
- 17:37Speaker 4: laid down and laid in the dark, the headaches would
- 17:41Speaker 4: go away. But then when I started having chills and
- 17:49Speaker 4: my body started convulsing, it felt like seizures. But I
- 17:58Speaker 4: didn't black out or anything like that. But I had
- 18:03Speaker 4: zero control over my body. But again, it has opened
- 18:10Speaker 4: my eyes to pay more attention to what I have
- 18:15Speaker 4: going on. Your health is your wealth, and you determine
- 18:24Speaker 4: how long you stay here. I mean as far as
- 18:29Speaker 4: keeping yourself healthy, listening to your doctor's exercise and walking,
- 18:39Speaker 4: just being careful with what you put in your body.
- 18:44Speaker 4: All of that is very important. And yes, that blood
- 18:49Speaker 4: pressure reading is the very reason I was admitted. And
- 18:52Speaker 4: the high heart rate because they were saying that my
- 18:58Speaker 4: heart rate was high. They didn't want to scare me,
- 19:02Speaker 4: so they didn't tell me how how high, but it
- 19:05Speaker 4: was high, but the.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Blood pressure.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Was below normal, and so they were like, you know,
- 19:16Speaker 1: we're gonna keep you and we're gonna give you antibiotics
- 19:21Speaker 1: through the IV. And I'm like, okay, I'm gonna just
- 19:27Speaker 1: be here for overnight. Maybe overnight turned into the next
- 19:34Speaker 1: night and the next night and the next night, and
- 19:38Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, so this is really bad that they're
- 19:45Speaker 1: keeping me, having to keep me this long. I'm sorry.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I'm still dealing with the whole breathing breathing apart. I
- 19:57Speaker 1: feel like there's something holding my lungs and just squeezing
- 20:04Speaker 1: from time to time. So I won't be before you long.
- 20:10Speaker 1: But again, I just want you all to take care
- 20:14Speaker 1: of yourself. Listen to your bodies, Listen to your doctors.
- 20:19Speaker 1: They have a PhD for a reason. You know. It's
- 20:24Speaker 1: kind of crazy to go to a doctor and tell
- 20:29Speaker 1: them what you think you got going on or what
- 20:33Speaker 1: you're not gonna do and stuff like that. When they
- 20:40Speaker 1: went to school to help you, they you know, some
- 20:44Speaker 1: of them learned a little bit more than the others,
- 20:47Speaker 1: and there's some that didn't learn anything. And you know,
- 20:54Speaker 1: God ahead, God has a way of weeding them out.
- 20:57Speaker 1: So just take care of yourself, watch what you eat.
- 21:04Speaker 1: If you're drinking sodas, because I'm guilty. Cut it out.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Cut it out, Cut it out, Cut it out, especially
- 21:12Speaker 1: dark sodas.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Doctor Pepper is.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Like the greatest thing on the man for me, But
- 21:23Speaker 1: I realized now that it did me more harm than
- 21:28Speaker 1: it ever did me any good. So I have no
- 21:31Speaker 1: qualms with not drinking it anymore. I don't even want
- 21:35Speaker 1: to drink it from time to time. Time to time
- 21:38Speaker 1: is the reason I'm in the situation i'm in now.
- 21:45Speaker 2: And just being just.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Knowing that if I had waited, I could have died
- 21:52Speaker 1: like I was literally on my depth of bed and
- 22:01Speaker 1: didn't know it. It's surreal to experience that close to
- 22:16Speaker 1: not having your life, and the peace in it just
- 22:24Speaker 1: is crazy as well, because when you're at peace and
- 22:30Speaker 1: you've made peace with everything you it puts you in
- 22:37Speaker 1: a different place, in a different headspace. And I don't know.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I'm just I'm grateful. I'm happy that the Lord loved
- 22:47Speaker 1: me enough to keep me here longer. I'm grateful for
- 22:55Speaker 1: the love that I have been shown. I have a
- 23:00Speaker 1: almost five year old granddaughter that prayed for me, and
- 23:06Speaker 1: between her and d D and all of my other
- 23:13Speaker 1: friends and family that prayed.
- 23:16Speaker 2: That believe on my behalf on days where.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Sometimes I didn't know if I was going to be
- 23:27Speaker 1: able to make it through, believed that I could on
- 23:32Speaker 1: my behalf. I am so, so, so so appreciative. I'm
- 23:37Speaker 1: appreciative for those who check on my mom, those who
- 23:42Speaker 1: reach out and ask me, you know how she's doing,
- 23:46Speaker 1: praying for her because we're in two different states. She's
- 23:50Speaker 1: in North Carolina, I'm in Georgia, and just knowing.
- 23:57Speaker 2: That we both.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Like stretched out pretty much is just a crazy, crazy,
- 24:10Speaker 1: crazy feeling. But like I said, I wasn't gonna be
- 24:15Speaker 1: before you long, and I just wanted to jump on
- 24:20Speaker 1: here to say why I've been quiet. I haven't had
- 24:25Speaker 1: a lot to say in the last week or so,
- 24:31Speaker 1: just trying to get my bearings together, and I wanted
- 24:37Speaker 1: to thank everybody that reached out and prayed for me.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Called a check on me, that got mad at me
- 24:46Speaker 1: and trusted me for not going to the hospital when
- 24:52Speaker 1: I first started feeling bad. I appreciate you. I appreciate you,
- 24:57Speaker 1: and I love you for that. If your friends don't
- 25:02Speaker 1: fuss at you, they don't care about you, get some
- 25:05Speaker 1: new ones. Mine gonna fuss. They gonna fuss every time.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And I appreciate that. I appreciate knowing that God places
- 25:17Speaker 1: people in my life that love me and they want
- 25:21Speaker 1: me here and they care about my well being.
- 25:24Speaker 2: And you know just and I love y'all. I love you,
- 25:33Speaker 2: and I'm not gonna cry.
- 25:35Speaker 1: So before I do any of that, I am definitely
- 25:38Speaker 1: about to hop up off of here, but I would
- 25:43Speaker 1: like to ask you all to consider me and your
- 25:47Speaker 1: prayers tonight my mom as well, and before I go,
- 25:54Speaker 1: I always tell you, you know what what's meant for
- 25:58Speaker 1: you will always be for you. It may be delayed,
- 26:02Speaker 1: but what God has for you will never be denied.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Unto you. Until next time, have a nice knight.
