- 0:00Speaker 1: I'll get our team. Welcome to another installment the show.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's Fatty Harps, It's a less bow. It's Tiffany and
- 0:07Speaker 1: I've got a rock in my bra and I've found
- 0:09Speaker 1: Navana cook. Can I cook?
- 0:13Speaker 2: Get they Harps?
- 0:15Speaker 1: But do you still have that rock in your undergarments?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Or have you sometimes it slips out?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Oh? Really?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah? The weekend Christmas, I went missing for a week.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Are you still holding onto any semblance of the inner
- 0:32Speaker 1: tranquility and nirvana that you brought back from the far
- 0:35Speaker 1: away lands? Or have you just faltered to your hangry self?
- 0:41Speaker 3: Well?
- 0:41Speaker 4: There, I never let myself get angry because that's just dangerous,
- 0:44Speaker 4: whether there's a rock in my bra or not.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Yeah, right, Well, there's a simple solution to hangar in ess.
- 0:50Speaker 1: It's called food.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but I'm all over that.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you're going to have to catch me up a
- 0:56Speaker 3: little here, guys, Why is Tiffany wearing a rock in
- 0:59Speaker 3: around it?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Actually it's in my bra.
- 1:03Speaker 3: That's a lot part of you.
- 1:04Speaker 1: That's part of your undergarments.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Even no one calls them mondays.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Al Right, all right, well, both gillispo and I am
- 1:12Speaker 1: not fucking twenty one years old, So give us some break.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I did so, explained to Gillespo the aforementioned correlation between
- 1:20Speaker 1: Nirvana and the rock and your bra.
- 1:22Speaker 4: Well, Gillispo, when I came back from my trip to
- 1:25Speaker 4: the Himalayas late last year, I brought half of the
- 1:29Speaker 4: Himalayas with me. I flogged a piece of the Himalayas
- 1:33Speaker 4: off every peak we hiked to, and there was one
- 1:36Speaker 4: little piece that I like to just one day, I
- 1:39Speaker 4: walked and I popped it in my bra that I
- 1:43Speaker 4: just stuck my hands down.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Now, I didn't mean to do that. I was in
- 1:46Speaker 2: my own world then, like this is.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Not video, and I forgot about it right, and I
- 1:52Speaker 4: slept with it in there, and that night I had
- 1:54Speaker 4: the best night sleep I've ever had recorded on my
- 1:56Speaker 4: stra on my garment in my life.
- 1:59Speaker 3: So so now you do it every night, I'll put.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It in there sometimes.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Well, but when she did come back, and I didn't
- 2:08Speaker 1: know any of the rock story, but there was a
- 2:12Speaker 1: I reckon there was about a week where you were
- 2:15Speaker 1: really different than a week where you were kind of,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you know, still in the ballpark. But I reckon, you
- 2:23Speaker 1: know you've not you. I reckon, you're still about thirty
- 2:27Speaker 1: percent of that. But you're definitely not exactly where you
- 2:31Speaker 1: were when you got back from me.
- 2:33Speaker 4: I'm not since Christmas, since after Christmas the break and yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 4: I'm exhaust Perhaps it's the pause, I reckon.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, well it's also because you fucked your back at
- 2:46Speaker 1: the gym deadlifting that that's that's exhausting as well. So
- 2:51Speaker 1: you have a deadlift glespo. I know we're not talking
- 2:53Speaker 1: about deadlifting.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I maybe you did it once or twice when I
- 2:57Speaker 3: was young and stupid in university. But when I saw
- 3:01Speaker 3: the guys, you know, strappen the belts on to stop
- 3:03Speaker 3: there in its falling out when they did it, I thought, yeah,
- 3:06Speaker 3: maybe that's not for me.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I actually think that makes you in it's more likely
- 3:11Speaker 1: to fall out because it adds abdominal pressure. Yeah there,
- 3:16Speaker 1: oh yeah, yeah. I'm not a big fan of the belts.
- 3:19Speaker 1: But you know, I'm just going to tell for everyone
- 3:22Speaker 1: who wants to hear this, I'm going to give you
- 3:24Speaker 1: a quick tip on belts. One, it's not that they're terrible,
- 3:27Speaker 1: but the design of most belts is actually bad design.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Because most weight belts that you see is wide at
- 3:33Speaker 1: the back, like something like one hundred mil or ten
- 3:36Speaker 1: centimeters or four inches and narrow at the front quite
- 3:39Speaker 1: often like thirty mel or one and a quarter or
- 3:42Speaker 1: one and a half inches. An actual fact, that should
- 3:45Speaker 1: be the same with about one hundred mil all the
- 3:47Speaker 1: way around to actually give you that stability. Nobody needed
- 3:51Speaker 1: to know that. But just for all of those who
- 3:53Speaker 1: think I'm thinking of getting a weight belt, no, you know, preferably, well,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I shouldn't say don't you use one? But I haven't
- 4:01Speaker 1: used one for I used one three times about forty
- 4:07Speaker 1: years ago, in not one since, so that doesn't mean anything.
- 4:11Speaker 1: David Gillespie, We're not talking about strength training rocks in
- 4:14Speaker 1: bras or in a piece or Nirvana. We were going
- 4:19Speaker 1: to talk about booze because you wrote an article about booze,
- 4:22Speaker 1: but you wanted to chat and Tip has got very
- 4:24Speaker 1: excited at the idea of chatting about vitamin B six.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I did not read that article. I do not know anything.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So Tip might have a question. But I'm just going
- 4:32Speaker 1: to open the vitamin B six door and you're going
- 4:35Speaker 1: to tell us, and if I think of something brilliant
- 4:38Speaker 1: or not brilliant, I'll ask it as we go.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Right. Oh okay, so.
- 4:43Speaker 1: No pressure, no pressure be amazing.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Can't take any credit for the original story, which was
- 4:49Speaker 3: an investigation done I think on the seven thirty report
- 4:53Speaker 3: last week on the ABC. Not a show I can
- 4:57Speaker 3: admit to watching terribly regularly, but I and to be
- 5:00Speaker 3: wandering past the telly when my wife was watching it,
- 5:03Speaker 3: and she was very interested in it. And I'll tell
- 5:05Speaker 3: you why in a moment. But the show was about
- 5:10Speaker 3: people overdosing on vitamin B six and it was It
- 5:16Speaker 3: featured a doctor, I think she's retired now, emergency medicine
- 5:22Speaker 3: specialist who had been diagnosed with all sorts of consequences
- 5:28Speaker 3: that are generally known to be associated with overdosing on
- 5:32Speaker 3: vitamin B six, most notably the peripheral neuropathy, which is
- 5:38Speaker 3: you know where you get tingling in your fingers and
- 5:41Speaker 3: your toes, your extremities and so on, and sometimes associated
- 5:44Speaker 3: with diabetes and so on. But B six overdosing can
- 5:49Speaker 3: be really really bad. It can be extremely toxic. And
- 5:54Speaker 3: what the story was about was that a lot of
- 5:56Speaker 3: Australians are unintentionally, particularly older women, menopausal women in particular,
- 6:02Speaker 3: unintentionally overdosing on this not because they're racing out and
- 6:06Speaker 3: golfing down tubs of B six supplements, but because they're
- 6:11Speaker 3: taking magnesium tablets. So really magnesium tablets are you know,
- 6:18Speaker 3: the reason most people take them is that they help
- 6:20Speaker 3: with leg cramps, so you know, they're good for muscles,
- 6:24Speaker 3: they help with leg cramps. There's a lot of leg
- 6:27Speaker 3: cramping going on in menopause, so a lot of women
- 6:31Speaker 3: who are approaching or in menopause are often told to
- 6:34Speaker 3: take magnesium tablets, which is of course why my dear
- 6:37Speaker 3: wife was watching this show with great interest, because she's
- 6:40Speaker 3: taking magnesium tablets. What she hadn't realized is that those
- 6:44Speaker 3: tablets often come with a very significant dose of vitamin
- 6:48Speaker 3: B six. The one she was taking had fifty milligrams
- 6:53Speaker 3: per tablet. Now that's meaningless to anybody who doesn't know
- 6:58Speaker 3: the dosing recommendations for vitamin B but the recommended dose
- 7:03Speaker 3: of vitamin B six for Australians is somewhere between one
- 7:07Speaker 3: and two milligrams per day, so fifty is a lot.
- 7:12Speaker 3: It's a hell of a one one and two Mili.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I was just looking right now, yeah one, as you
- 7:17Speaker 1: were doing that, I was looking at one point three
- 7:19Speaker 1: to one point seven, So yeah, give will take one
- 7:21Speaker 1: to two yep. And what did you say? Fifty million,
- 7:27Speaker 1: fifty and.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Not even not even highlighted. So you're taking a magnesium tablet. Yeah,
- 7:34Speaker 3: and if you if you read the fine print on
- 7:36Speaker 3: the back, you realize, actually, this magnesium tablet has fifty
- 7:42Speaker 3: milligrams per tablet? Was vitamin B six in it? Now?
- 7:48Speaker 1: Can I just read something that's interesting for this? So
- 7:52Speaker 1: this is the idea, this Australian RDII is right. So
- 7:54Speaker 1: nine to fifty year old people one point three, fifty
- 7:58Speaker 1: one to seventy that's you, David one point seven and
- 8:01Speaker 1: U Tiff.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Are we going to get to your age group soon?
- 8:08Speaker 1: Hey, hey, I'm making fun of you. Pregnant women one
- 8:13Speaker 1: point nine breastfeeding women too, So the absolute upper limit
- 8:17Speaker 1: is breastfeeding women where the RDI or recommended daily intagers
- 8:20Speaker 1: two milligrams and based on that, so even at the
- 8:24Speaker 1: very upper limit recommendation, that's got twenty five times the
- 8:30Speaker 1: recommended amount in those magnesium cells.
- 8:34Speaker 3: And they're not the worst. Like I had a quick
- 8:36Speaker 3: look around the supermarket after this, and there are a
- 8:39Speaker 3: few brands there with sixty milligrams in per tablet. And
- 8:44Speaker 3: the first thing that might occur to you is why
- 8:46Speaker 3: why is vitamin B six being added into these tablets,
- 8:50Speaker 3: And the answer is because vitamin B six is thought
- 8:54Speaker 3: to help with magnesium absorption. So the people are selling
- 8:57Speaker 3: magnesium perls have said, oh, well, vitamin's helps with absorption,
- 9:01Speaker 3: so we'll go ahead and whack that in the in
- 9:03Speaker 3: the pill without any real regard by the look of it,
- 9:06Speaker 3: to the possibility that you might be seriously overdosing vitamin
- 9:11Speaker 3: B six. Now, the question, by the way, is do
- 9:15Speaker 3: we need any vitamin B six. You won't find too
- 9:18Speaker 3: many supplements that claim it or that you can just
- 9:21Speaker 3: go on by the vitamin B six because we get
- 9:25Speaker 3: that one to two milligrams easily from our food supply.
- 9:30Speaker 3: So it's a water soluble vitamin. Green leafy veedged that
- 9:33Speaker 3: the usual story about vitamins. Okay, it's it's the sort
- 9:37Speaker 3: of thing that people don't need to supplement for deficiency.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Envitamin B six in Australia is almost non existent. So
- 9:48Speaker 3: and if you were deficient vitamin B six, then you
- 9:51Speaker 3: would probably be seeing a doctor who would give you
- 9:53Speaker 3: an appropriate prescription for an appropriate level of B six supplementation.
- 9:58Speaker 3: But the problem here is that we've got a large
- 10:01Speaker 3: segment of the population unintentionally taking very serious doses of
- 10:06Speaker 3: this stuff. Now, the TGA recently reviewed the evidence on
- 10:12Speaker 3: this in twenty twenty and decided, you know, whoopsie, this
- 10:18Speaker 3: could be a bit of a problem and required the
- 10:23Speaker 3: manufacturers to put in place warnings on anything that has
- 10:31Speaker 3: more than ten milligrams per dose. So the TGA says,
- 10:37Speaker 3: you know, the therapeutic goods. The regulator who regulates vitamins
- 10:43Speaker 3: in Australia said, oh geez, that's a bit unfortunate. So listen.
- 10:48Speaker 3: What we'll do is we'll make them put a warning
- 10:50Speaker 3: on the label. So they've got more than ten milligrams in,
- 10:55Speaker 3: they've got to say that that's the case. So I
- 10:59Speaker 3: went looking for the warning on the ones that my
- 11:01Speaker 3: wife was taking, because fifty milligrams is definitely more than ten,
- 11:05Speaker 3: and I certainly hadn't noticed a warning when buying them.
- 11:10Speaker 3: But it was there. It was there. It was in
- 11:13Speaker 3: very very very small print under a lot of other
- 11:17Speaker 3: very very small print in black on an orange background,
- 11:21Speaker 3: which is really easy to read, and it said if
- 11:26Speaker 3: you notice tingling in your fingers, stop taking these. Wow.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Wow, that is can I just read? Also, something else
- 11:35Speaker 1: interesting I'm doing research while you're doing that. So vitin
- 11:39Speaker 1: B six toxicity also known as mega vitamin B six
- 11:43Speaker 1: syndrome because when someone takes too much, as David says,
- 11:47Speaker 1: so symptoms everyone numbness and tingling hands, feet, blah blah blah,
- 11:52Speaker 1: muscle weakness. Having a really scary thought as I'm saying
- 11:55Speaker 1: all this, which I'll share with you, muscle weakness, weakness
- 11:58Speaker 1: in the legs and glutes, or a gradual deterioration of
- 12:01Speaker 1: muscle strength, painful skin lesions or bone pains, walking difficulty,
- 12:07Speaker 1: balanced difficulty, other symptoms heartburn, nausea, sensitivity, sunlight. This I'm
- 12:14Speaker 1: when I get off this call, I'm going to ring
- 12:16Speaker 1: my mum and see if my dad started taking a
- 12:19Speaker 1: magnesium supplement in the last six months, because my like,
- 12:24Speaker 1: he's getting old, but in the last six months, his
- 12:27Speaker 1: all of this stuff we're talking about is increased. It
- 12:30Speaker 1: seems to have ten xt like at a disproportionate rate,
- 12:34Speaker 1: which may or may have been not related. But yeah,
- 12:38Speaker 1: that's really interesting. And also here's another one, just quickly, David,
- 12:41Speaker 1: A twenty fifteen study conducted at London Hospital, so just
- 12:45Speaker 1: with random patients who are in there for other reasons.
- 12:48Speaker 1: They check their B six and thirty eight percent of
- 12:51Speaker 1: them had, So that's just a random sample thirty eight
- 12:55Speaker 1: percent of a general group, and ten percent of them
- 12:58Speaker 1: exhibited sensory in Europe fee and that's like they weren't
- 13:02Speaker 1: in there for that. That was just a group that
- 13:04Speaker 1: they wow.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Okay, Well, a lot of people could be seriously overdosing
- 13:10Speaker 3: on B six without the slightest knowledge of it. A
- 13:13Speaker 3: lot of multi vitamins included, as we said, but the
- 13:18Speaker 3: big one here is magnesium. It's a seriously large dose.
- 13:22Speaker 3: By the way, you can buy magnesium tablets that have
- 13:26Speaker 3: no B six in them, which is of course what
- 13:29Speaker 3: I've gone and done, but you have to really be
- 13:32Speaker 3: looking for it because the vast majority of them have
- 13:36Speaker 3: B six in them, and they all have the compulsory
- 13:39Speaker 3: warning label on them in the very very fine print
- 13:42Speaker 3: way way at the back. But this is a serious,
- 13:47Speaker 3: serious issue, and the story on seven thirty, which I'd
- 13:50Speaker 3: recommend anyone go take a look at. I'm sure Tiffany
- 13:53Speaker 3: can put a link in the show notes, but anyone
- 13:57Speaker 3: can go look at that, and I think it's worth
- 14:00Speaker 3: watching it because this is a doctor that they're talking
- 14:03Speaker 3: about She's an emergency medicine specialist, has been, has practiced
- 14:08Speaker 3: all her life, and knew nothing about this, absolutely nothing
- 14:12Speaker 3: about this. The TGA says, oh, we told all the doctors,
- 14:17Speaker 3: and she's saying, well, no one told me. And I
- 14:22Speaker 3: rather suspect that many gps don't know about this, and
- 14:27Speaker 3: even if they do know about B six toxicity, they're
- 14:29Speaker 3: probably not asking their patients are you taking magnesium tablets?
- 14:34Speaker 3: Because putting the two together is a bit of a leap.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Imagine if it was I mean anything else where we said,
- 14:43Speaker 1: you know, like, for example, I think the idea for
- 14:47Speaker 1: sodium is something like two thousand milligrams a day or something.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Two grams is it? But imagine if imagine if so
- 14:54Speaker 1: two thousand milligrams because it's salt, and we go, oh, yeah, fuck,
- 14:57Speaker 1: you can't have too much sold it'll kill your blood
- 14:59Speaker 1: pressure and all that, right, Imagine if there was something
- 15:02Speaker 1: that had, you know, twenty five times that, so instead
- 15:06Speaker 1: of two thousand, it had fifty thousand milligrams of salt,
- 15:09Speaker 1: we'd all be running around with our arms in the air.
- 15:10Speaker 3: But you know, well, the other thing to know about this,
- 15:13Speaker 3: sorry to interrupt you, but the other thing to know
- 15:15Speaker 3: about this is we get rid of I mean, we're
- 15:18Speaker 3: urinate out like all water soluble vitamins. You know, we
- 15:21Speaker 3: get rid of this stuff. The trouble is we're pretty
- 15:24Speaker 3: good at retaining it too. So one tablet that contains
- 15:29Speaker 3: fifty milligrams is thirty days worth. It will take us
- 15:34Speaker 3: thirty days to get rid of that let alone. If
- 15:36Speaker 3: we're taking it every single day, which is usually the
- 15:40Speaker 3: recommended dose from magnesium tablet, then you are seriously taking
- 15:45Speaker 3: it because then it's a cumulative effect.
- 15:48Speaker 1: That old kind of I was going to say lifestyle.
- 15:51Speaker 1: It's not a lifestyle. But I actually used to train
- 15:54Speaker 1: a doctor I wish I'm not going to mention in
- 15:57Speaker 1: his name, and this was I've trained a bunch of doctors,
- 15:59Speaker 1: but this was early day. I clearly remember him saying
- 16:02Speaker 1: to me when I was talking him about vitamins. He goes, well,
- 16:06Speaker 1: they don't really do much for a start, That's what
- 16:09Speaker 1: he said. And he goes, but you can't overdose on
- 16:12Speaker 1: any of that stuff. You'll just piss it out. Excuse
- 16:15Speaker 1: my language, but that's what he said. But I'm thinking,
- 16:18Speaker 1: and for a long time I believed him that. Well,
- 16:20Speaker 1: it didn't really matter, like, you know, if you took
- 16:23Speaker 1: if you took too much, it didn't matter because you're
- 16:25Speaker 1: just weird out when you go to the toilet.
- 16:27Speaker 3: But yeah, I was definitely in that camp too for
- 16:31Speaker 3: a long time. But there's starting to be some really
- 16:34Speaker 3: concerning things even with water. So there's two different types
- 16:37Speaker 3: of vitamins, fat soluble and water soluble. The vast majority
- 16:41Speaker 3: of them, the ones we come across normally are water soluble,
- 16:44Speaker 3: so vitamin C, vitamin B and so on, and yeah,
- 16:48Speaker 3: will urinate those out. But even with vitamin C, the
- 16:51Speaker 3: people think you you can't possibly have too much of
- 16:53Speaker 3: a good thing with that. There really are some quite
- 16:56Speaker 3: concerning studies about links between high dose vitamin C and
- 17:03Speaker 3: urinary issues in males, so prostate cancer and other urinary difficulties.
- 17:10Speaker 3: So look, I don't want to be scaring your listeners
- 17:13Speaker 3: to death on that one, but there are studies out
- 17:16Speaker 3: there that sort of ring alarm bells about that. Now
- 17:19Speaker 3: they are high dose y. You know, I'm not saying
- 17:23Speaker 3: popping the occasional vitamin C is going to be doing
- 17:26Speaker 3: anyone any harm, But yeah, I don't think it's entirely
- 17:31Speaker 3: true to say that there are no there's no chance
- 17:35Speaker 3: of harm from vitamin consumption. But particularly where you're talking
- 17:41Speaker 3: about something like this where the person's not intentionally taking
- 17:43Speaker 3: the vitamin at all. They don't even know they're taking
- 17:47Speaker 3: the vitamin.
- 17:48Speaker 1: That's the important thing. Like they are literally being given
- 17:52Speaker 1: a ridiculous sleep MEGAMEGAMEGA dose of something that they didn't choose,
- 17:58Speaker 1: Like they're actually getting it for the magnesium.
- 18:01Speaker 3: At least with vitamin C, if you're taking high dose
- 18:04Speaker 3: vitamin C, you know, if you're chugging half a bottle
- 18:07Speaker 3: of thousand milligram tablets vitamin C every day, you know
- 18:10Speaker 3: you're doing it. It would be something to work your
- 18:13Speaker 3: way through. So and you might well think to yourself,
- 18:17Speaker 3: I wonder if I should do a bit of research
- 18:18Speaker 3: about whether this is good for me or not. But
- 18:21Speaker 3: in this circumstance, you don't even know you're doing it. Now,
- 18:25Speaker 3: with the fat soluble vitamins, you've got to be even
- 18:28Speaker 3: more cautious because a lot of them are permanently part
- 18:32Speaker 3: of us or don't go away quickly. So there are
- 18:36Speaker 3: certainly other vitamins where you know there are maximum limits
- 18:41Speaker 3: for very very good reasons.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So I've just enlisted the services of my personal assistant
- 18:48Speaker 1: also known as chat GPT, and he tells me because
- 18:52Speaker 1: mine's a bloke, so certain vitamins can be toxic when
- 18:57Speaker 1: consuming excessive amounts, which we know, particularly fat soluble vitamins. Yeah,
- 19:05Speaker 1: Vitamin A, D, E, and K is on their list.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Wow A symptoms headache, dissiness, nausea, liver damage, blurred vision,
- 19:15Speaker 1: fucking our bone pain or fractures, and during pregnancy, excessive
- 19:21Speaker 1: viamin A can cause birth defects.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Wow.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Vitamin D in takes above four thousand iu a day
- 19:28Speaker 1: and not recommended. Nausea, vomiting, kidney damage, muscle weakness, calcification
- 19:34Speaker 1: of soft tissues. Vitamin E includes risk of bleeding, impaired
- 19:40Speaker 1: blood clotting blah but blood Vitamin K rare but can occur,
- 19:45Speaker 1: liver damage and hemolytic anemia. Water the wages quickly, B
- 19:52Speaker 1: six and B three.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Yeah. The thing though, once again coming back to it,
- 19:58Speaker 3: is you're not going to be act dentally taking any
- 20:01Speaker 3: of those the BC except B six, except B six. Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 3: I mean for most of those, you are going to
- 20:10Speaker 3: be quite intentionally taking them, probably under the advice of
- 20:13Speaker 3: a health professional, because you've been diagnosed as being deficient
- 20:18Speaker 3: in some way, and there's probably a really good reason
- 20:21Speaker 3: for that, but this one, you're getting huge doses, way
- 20:27Speaker 3: over the recommended limits, doses that require warnings on products,
- 20:31Speaker 3: and and you don't even know it.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Amazing, that's amazing, and so well that, like, what what
- 20:42Speaker 1: would happen from? I mean, you're a lawyer as well
- 20:44Speaker 1: as a researcher and a general bloody noel, but we
- 20:47Speaker 1: love you for that. What would what would have to
- 20:50Speaker 1: happen for? I mean, this is maybe a bigger question
- 20:54Speaker 1: than then I should ask, But what would have to
- 20:57Speaker 1: happen for that? Like? What's the process? Would that years
- 21:00Speaker 1: to undo that? So that they're assuming you warnings on
- 21:06Speaker 1: labels and stuff? Ah?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Well, I don't know. I think it would take one
- 21:10Speaker 3: big lawsuit to get to get some pretty serious action there. Personally,
- 21:15Speaker 3: I think the TGA should be doing more than requiring
- 21:18Speaker 3: people to put virtually invisible warnings on labels when there's
- 21:21Speaker 3: something like this going on, particularly when they themselves have
- 21:25Speaker 3: assessed the evidence and said there is real risk of
- 21:27Speaker 3: harm here, you know, I feel we should get more
- 21:32Speaker 3: from our regulators when there's something like this going on.
- 21:36Speaker 3: I don't think we should be hearing about it on
- 21:39Speaker 3: a news show on Telly. I think it should be
- 21:42Speaker 3: our regulators jumping all over this and saying, hang on,
- 21:46Speaker 3: this can't happen.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Yeah, can I ask? I was going to say, can
- 21:51Speaker 1: I ask a personal question and then ask a personal question?
- 21:54Speaker 1: So ignore the first question. My personal question is do
- 21:59Speaker 1: you take any supplements? And if so, what if you're
- 22:02Speaker 1: happy to share?
- 22:04Speaker 3: I have started in the last few years taking garlic pearls.
- 22:10Speaker 3: That's the only supplement I take.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Is that because you've got six kids and you don't
- 22:14Speaker 1: want any more?
- 22:18Speaker 3: There are other ways to sort that out. I'll share
- 22:21Speaker 3: you some pictures later.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Ple he's done.
- 22:28Speaker 3: No, but garlic piells are primarily because there's been some
- 22:32Speaker 3: really really interesting research. There's a particular chemical in garlic
- 22:39Speaker 3: that prevents the attachment of many viruses, and so if
- 22:45Speaker 3: you want a general prophylactic against being infected with a
- 22:51Speaker 3: multitude of viruses, then it's not a bad habit to
- 22:56Speaker 3: get into. And how that are chomping on garlic every day? Yeah?
- 23:01Speaker 1: What's in garlic pills? Here we go?
- 23:03Speaker 3: Oh, so does chat ebt have a name? Is it
- 23:08Speaker 3: Fred or something like that?
- 23:09Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 23:10Speaker 3: Brian, Brian Brian.
- 23:14Speaker 1: What supplements do you I should know this, but I
- 23:16Speaker 1: actually don't. What supplements do you take regularly?
- 23:19Speaker 4: I take creatine, fish oil, and I just had just
- 23:22Speaker 4: got back into taking magnesium, which is why I fell
- 23:26Speaker 4: over backwards after seeing that article.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Did you go did you look at the amount of
- 23:33Speaker 1: whatever I forget already? B six sorry B six in
- 23:36Speaker 1: your magnesium?
- 23:37Speaker 2: And I think it was from memory. I think it
- 23:39Speaker 2: was like forty milligrams or something.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Wow?
- 23:42Speaker 2: Yeah, wow?
- 23:43Speaker 1: And where are those those pills now?
- 23:45Speaker 3: In the bin?
- 23:46Speaker 2: It's a powder and he's going straight in the bin.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Hey, Gil, I spose I've got another related but not
- 23:53Speaker 1: specific to this conversation, but related question. So I recognize
- 23:58Speaker 1: started reading labels, you know, on food and supplements and
- 24:04Speaker 1: pills and powders and potions. And I don't know when
- 24:07Speaker 1: I was as long as they've been around late thirty years.
- 24:10Speaker 1: And and because I've read so many labels, and I
- 24:14Speaker 1: look at them, you know, look at the whatever I'm
- 24:17Speaker 1: going to buy, not just the ingredients, but then the
- 24:19Speaker 1: breakdown of what's in per hundred grams. I reckon that
- 24:24Speaker 1: at least half of the things that I look at
- 24:27Speaker 1: that what is in that what is in the the
- 24:30Speaker 1: one hundred milligrams you know, per hundred milligrams, what you
- 24:34Speaker 1: know the different vitamins, minerals, macro nutrients, fat, protein, carbs, sugar.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I reckon they're inaccurate. I reckon a huge amount of
- 24:43Speaker 1: them are inaccurate. Do you do you is there Do
- 24:47Speaker 1: you have any insight into that, like.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Any inaccurate in what sense what it was?
- 24:52Speaker 1: As in, I don't like, I don't think what they're
- 24:56Speaker 1: saying is in there? Is in there? Yeah?
- 25:00Speaker 3: I think what's an example?
- 25:03Speaker 1: Well, I mean I literally looked at something the other
- 25:06Speaker 1: day and it was per hundred grams and if you
- 25:08Speaker 1: added up that just the protein and the carbohydrate, it
- 25:11Speaker 1: came out to one hundred and twelve grams per hundred grams.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Well then that was it an American product?
- 25:20Speaker 1: No, No, okay, it was Australian. But I mean literally,
- 25:25Speaker 1: like when I was looking at it, and I don't
- 25:28Speaker 1: want to throw anyone under the bus, but I was
- 25:30Speaker 1: looking at it, I'm like, well, what this label says?
- 25:34Speaker 1: And it also I was looking at something and it
- 25:36Speaker 1: also said like I literally looked at this product which
- 25:40Speaker 1: is a supplement, and it said that it had this
- 25:43Speaker 1: huge amount of protein in it, and I looked at
- 25:46Speaker 1: the ingredients and there was not only was there not
- 25:49Speaker 1: that amount of protein, there was zero protein in there. Zero.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Wow, okay, like zero.
- 25:55Speaker 1: There was not one ingredient in this product that contained protein.
- 26:00Speaker 3: There are significant penalties for false and misleading conduct in
- 26:07Speaker 3: the labeling of products, so you could report that manufacturer
- 26:12Speaker 3: to the TGA or who I think they're the regulator,
- 26:16Speaker 3: and they would be investigated. So by and large, I've
- 26:22Speaker 3: found products are roughly right. I would say that, but
- 26:28Speaker 3: I'm only looking at food products. I'm not looking at
- 26:30Speaker 3: supplements and so on. Sometimes you see one where it's
- 26:34Speaker 3: clearly impossible, where either it doesn't add up to one
- 26:38Speaker 3: hundred or there's just no way that product contains that
- 26:41Speaker 3: much protein or fat or carbohydrate or whatever it is
- 26:44Speaker 3: they're claiming, and it's clearly an error on the label.
- 26:47Speaker 3: But I'd say I've encountered that maybe one in one hundred,
- 26:52Speaker 3: which is probably too high. But yeah, I haven't found
- 26:58Speaker 3: it's an extremely regular currents.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Wow, wow, Well that was interesting. I think we'll
- 27:07Speaker 1: do the other one next time. But that was good.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Have you got any questions tip? Before we say goodbye
- 27:12Speaker 1: to the great man. I'm actually I'm actually keen to
- 27:17Speaker 1: go and look at my magnesium and see what's in there,
- 27:19Speaker 1: because it might be going. I think it's probably going
- 27:23Speaker 1: to be going in the bin.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I'm just yeah, replacement.
- 27:27Speaker 3: I did find one, but I don't have it in
- 27:30Speaker 3: front of me. Unfortunately. I got it. I think it
- 27:33Speaker 3: was at the local calls. There's quite a lot of
- 27:36Speaker 3: brands of magnesium, but one of them had no added anything.
- 27:41Speaker 3: It was just straight up magnesium.
- 27:45Speaker 1: While I've got you here and while we're still recording,
- 27:47Speaker 1: I want to say two things. One is blatant plug
- 27:50Speaker 1: and one is some info that I keep getting when
- 27:54Speaker 1: I say keep a couple of times a week I
- 27:56Speaker 1: get asked this. So the first one is, so the
- 28:01Speaker 1: mayo that David recommended that it is, the mayo that
- 28:03Speaker 1: I use is called good fat Mayo. It's called good
- 28:06Speaker 1: fat Mao. I buy it all worse. It's about twelve
- 28:09Speaker 1: bucks or something.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Too much, is what it is. It's too damn much.
- 28:12Speaker 2: It is it is.
- 28:13Speaker 1: It's kind of I mean, you can buy the shit
- 28:16Speaker 1: one for four, but fuck the shit one, shout and
- 28:20Speaker 1: get the good one for twelve. But I mean, it's
- 28:22Speaker 1: not unless you're spooning it on with a dessert spoon.
- 28:25Speaker 1: It lasts a fair one. It's called good fat mayo.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I have no affiliation with them. I'm not suggesting you
- 28:32Speaker 1: buy it. But for the people who keep asking me,
- 28:35Speaker 1: what was the one that he recommends and the one
- 28:36Speaker 1: that I use, That is the answer to your question.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Twelve bucks.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Just on that one, Hang on on that one. I
- 28:43Speaker 3: will send. I will send Tiffany the recipe. It is
- 28:47Speaker 3: very easy to make mayo? How very easy?
- 28:50Speaker 1: How long does that?
- 28:51Speaker 3: It takes out takes me on a minute to make it.
- 28:55Speaker 3: So you need olive oil and an egg. So it's, well, well.
- 29:01Speaker 1: We're here, Just give the fucking recipe.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I mean, he just did, didn't he.
- 29:06Speaker 3: I'll I'll give it to you in writing, because you
- 29:10Speaker 3: know there's some technique. But but yeah, it's it doesn't
- 29:13Speaker 3: take long as long as you've got a blender. If
- 29:14Speaker 3: you haven't got a blender, it will take you a
- 29:16Speaker 3: long time.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Wow, I'm pretty sure. Anyway. And the other thing I
- 29:21Speaker 1: want to say, which is completely unrelated to guests by gillspo,
- 29:24Speaker 1: but February three, my new mentoring program kicks off. Everybody,
- 29:29Speaker 1: February three, go to my website Craig Harper dot net
- 29:33Speaker 1: and have a captain cooker that mate, We appreciate you
- 29:36Speaker 1: as always. That was I reckon. That was better than
- 29:39Speaker 1: last week. So well done. Keep trying.
- 29:41Speaker 3: I'll try try harder.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Do your best. And also, how fucking good is your
- 29:48Speaker 1: kid by the way, James.
- 29:49Speaker 3: James, Yeah, I mean he's got a new cover.
- 29:53Speaker 1: You're on the slide, he's on the rise.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Tell you what he's thing on Monday. I mean I
- 29:59Speaker 3: was watching the media keeping an eye off for him,
- 30:03Speaker 3: and I think he ended up well over two hundred
- 30:06Speaker 3: media appearances on Monday, So that's amazing.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And if you don't know what you're talking about. Everybody
- 30:11Speaker 1: interviewed James a week or so ago and it came
- 30:14Speaker 1: out well, it had to. It was embargoed until Monday yesterday.
- 30:19Speaker 1: What is today? Monday? Monday six am and our stuff
- 30:25Speaker 1: goes up at midnight, so we had to put it
- 30:27Speaker 1: up yesterday. But great chat with him, and yeah, no,
- 30:31Speaker 1: he is apart from the fact that the work he's
- 30:34Speaker 1: doing is great and great, I mean it's just a
- 30:37Speaker 1: great thing that he's doing and highlighting something that needs
- 30:41Speaker 1: to be highlighted and addressing it. But also, Yeah, he's
- 30:44Speaker 1: so good. Is such a natural? Yeah, so well done him?
- 30:49Speaker 3: Will you?
- 30:49Speaker 1: I know you probably don't say things like this because
- 30:52Speaker 1: you're an old fashioned dad, but is there any pride
- 30:55Speaker 1: in there? Do you go?
- 30:56Speaker 3: Fuck?
- 30:56Speaker 1: He's doing all right?
- 30:58Speaker 3: Look I know he's got room improvement. You know what
- 31:01Speaker 3: I mean?
- 31:03Speaker 1: Have you been to the Ron Harper School of Platitudes?
- 31:11Speaker 3: Come away with the two points? That's all the man is.
- 31:13Speaker 1: That's hilarious. All right, Mike, We'll see you next week.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Alright, I see you later.
