- 0:47Thank you. Now here are the hosts of the
- 0:50United We Scan podcast. Welcome back everybody.
- 0:54Episode one 27128 One. 28. 128 wow, 128 episodes of United.
- 1:05We scan and we're approaching another National Convention.
- 1:10But before we get to discussing our topic of the day, how was
- 1:14your week, Josh? Hot.
- 1:16Hot hot hot hot hot hot hot. F this.
- 1:20It's hot. I want winter now when it's 96°
- 1:25and 95% humidity. I thank God I have AC but I'm
- 1:29drinking like crazy. I'm hydrating.
- 1:32This is ridiculous folks. You go outside it's 80° at 7:30
- 1:38in the morning, 8:00 in the morning.
- 1:41It's like someone just sucks the life out of you.
- 1:43Please know your limits. Hydrate my week was good.
- 1:49The mail yesterday was just just a joke.
- 1:52I had maybe 20 get outs for the whole route and I'm thinking
- 1:57well Monday what's it going to be like?
- 1:59But week was good, not too much mail.
- 2:03Can't wait for a convention bill.
- 2:06Oh God I I had a very busy week. A lot of inquiries, specifically
- 2:14about some EOS and SPMS, The forcing of regulars to carry
- 2:23partial routes out, the use of the scanner for communication
- 2:28for non-emergency purposes. The list of carriers that were
- 2:35subject to be forced to go back out on routes.
- 2:38The thing, you know, partial routes, grandson, of course.
- 2:42And you know, the little booger was so wound up, he didn't get
- 2:46his nap on Wednesday. So by the time his parents came
- 2:49home, I was, you know, came over to get him and, you know, I was
- 2:52finally be able to get a shower at 7:00 PM this Wednesday night.
- 2:57I love the little sucker, though.
- 2:59He, he's, you know, he's, he looked at you with those eyes
- 3:02and you just, you melt, you know, I, I want to beat him, but
- 3:05I can. So other than that, I mean, I
- 3:09did, like I said, I, I did some shopping and it's, it's been hot
- 3:13and muggy up here. Humidity is, is the killer.
- 3:16I mean, you know, even if it's like 85° out, then the humidity
- 3:20is above 70%. You feel like you're walking
- 3:23into a, a, a, a sauna. You just take a breath and you
- 3:28feel the warmth go right into your lungs and it's like, this
- 3:31is this is not right. God bless you all.
- 3:34Yeah, out there. I mean, you know, places like
- 3:36New Mexico, Texas and all with the pure heat.
- 3:39But the rest of us, you know, on this Eastern seaboard, we get
- 3:43the humidity on top of the heat. And our heat can be 20° less
- 3:47than yours, but the humidity just, it saturates you.
- 3:51I mean, yeah, I, I can remember just going outside the loaded
- 3:55truck and jump, coming back in and, you know, having a towel on
- 3:58the back of my neck because I got to wipe all the perspiration
- 4:01off my head, my face and everything else.
- 4:03I just, it's brutal. So you're right.
- 4:06I mean, hydrate, hydrate the day before.
- 4:09And yeah, fog your glasses. I did that in the morning.
- 4:14Come out on my back neck here. You know, it's 7730 in the
- 4:17morning and I walked from the air conditioning unit.
- 4:20It's like, OK, now I got to wait for my glasses to clear up.
- 4:22It's it's ridiculous. So everybody hydrating you save
- 4:27from, you know, look out for each other.
- 4:29James, how about you? How was your week?
- 4:32All right, so I had to download a new recording software cuz
- 4:37last week we didn't have somebody to record for us, but
- 4:42this week I'm recording it and of course going through the
- 4:46growing pains of figuring out how to record this stuff and
- 4:49hopefully it's working right. If not, there won't be an
- 4:52episode posted, but I'm doing the best I can.
- 4:57You know, your, your voice is still still off a little bit.
- 5:00I don't know if you're moving around or not, but.
- 5:02No probably discord and because I'm using the recording, the
- 5:08system and a Bluetooth earpiece to talk on this so it's probably
- 5:14messing it up a little bit on discord.
- 5:16Hopefully the recording is coming through good though, but
- 5:20you know, it's normal week at work.
- 5:23Didn't have to work my relief day Saturday so luckily.
- 5:27But it's I apologize to everybody on Discord if there's
- 5:31issues going on. I'm trying to figure all this
- 5:34out myself. I do have my computer's not
- 5:37working hard to record this as it is, but I've never used
- 5:41Discord through my computer before so that could be also an
- 5:44issue. But just trying to get stuff
- 5:48ready for National Convention, getting stuff organized, getting
- 5:52stuff ordered, setting up for my table and things like that.
- 5:56Plus getting this house all cleaned up and organized.
- 6:00I spent all day today outside in the heat sweating my butt off,
- 6:04using shop towels to dry my forehead and my eyes out and
- 6:09went through 4 shop towels just doing the yard work and but
- 6:15other than that, I'm looking forward to our National
- 6:18Convention and helping carriers until that time through my page.
- 6:23But other than that, let's get into today's topic, which is
- 6:28National Convention. Now everybody that's here, I
- 6:33believe has already been to a National Convention.
- 6:36And so I want you guys, we've already done this last year as
- 6:41well. But I want you to talk about
- 6:43what you expect to see at National Convention.
- 6:48What do you expect to happen? What do you expect people to
- 6:53expect to see when they go to National Convention?
- 6:56Because there's all kinds of new people going to National
- 7:02Convention. I know there's quite a few first
- 7:05timers stepping up. So I kind of want to have you
- 7:08guys guide what the first timers are to expect to have and what
- 7:12even veteran attendees can expect.
- 7:16So we'll start with you, Bill, As the biggest veteran of
- 7:19national conventions on this podcast, we'll let you lead it
- 7:22off with what to expect at National Convention.
- 7:25Oh, oh God, let's, let's start off with the the fact that you
- 7:32can go in there on Sunday and you can start attending meetings
- 7:38morning, noon and night time. Same thing with Monday.
- 7:44There probably will be another rally thrown in there in regards
- 7:48to the privatization supporting the royal craft.
- 7:52Tuesday is the start of the actual convention and Tuesday is
- 7:57nothing but a his ass show of, you know, platitudes from
- 8:03everybody from the postmaster general.
- 8:06If he attends this year, I do not know.
- 8:09I believe our our convention will be the first that he has
- 8:12the opportunity to attend. It'll be the introduction of
- 8:15the, the local people, state hotels and everybody else.
- 8:20And it's a lot of glad handing and that backpack padding and
- 8:25everything else. It's, it's a complete waste of a
- 8:28convention day to me. And I, I just wish they would
- 8:33eliminate that, you know, from the get go.
- 8:36I mean, they, they could, they could take that and cut that
- 8:38down to a couple hours and we can get the business of the
- 8:41unions so much faster. But I think this is a, a
- 8:46redetermined act of convention so that they can control the end
- 8:52of the convention and kind of force us to rush through things
- 8:55at the end. And I, and I really hate that
- 8:59Wednesday comes along and that's when we're going to get to the
- 9:02gist of the business, including the, you know, nomination of
- 9:07officers for the different positions.
- 9:09And you get down to the business of the contract.
- 9:12And, and, you know, the president, Don Madsen, will be
- 9:15able to, you know, speak more freely in regards to the
- 9:18contract. And, you know, he may or may not
- 9:21take questions, but you're going to say no, OK Wednesday night is
- 9:27your banquet night. That's when everybody gets
- 9:31together and has a good time. There's good food, music, be
- 9:36flowing, alcohol. You're going to get your
- 9:39resolutions hopefully on Tuesday so we can start on them.
- 9:42But, you know, you typically can get them on Wednesdays and then
- 9:45people will be sitting around Wednesday nights, you know,
- 9:48going over to resolutions and everything.
- 9:50One of the things you notice at these conventions is the flick
- 9:57pocketing. OK.
- 9:58What I mean by that is the different cliques of, you know,
- 10:02the, the political allies and pocketing in small corners and
- 10:07rooms and stuff like that. And it and it's funny because
- 10:10the fact that you can sit there and say, OK, you know, this is a
- 10:14re election, but it's not. There are still states that
- 10:18almost require their individual delegates vote along a block
- 10:23forum, meaning we're voting for this individual.
- 10:26So everybody's voting for this individual.
- 10:29Well, that's not free voting, folks.
- 10:31I mean, you know, it, it's, it's one of those things where you,
- 10:36you sit there. My wife went to the one in Texas
- 10:38several years ago and she and she just sat there and, and for
- 10:42my wife to say they're a bunch of backstabbing son of bitches.
- 10:46She could see how people could come up and, you know, kind of
- 10:49endorse you and then turn around and stab you in the back.
- 10:54A some .2 inches ago in Grand Rapids, my state, the president
- 11:00was supposed to do my nomination and at 8:30 in the morning
- 11:05backed out on the morning of the denominations and my, my nice
- 11:09little Christian like wife went off.
- 11:13And I mean, you know, she, she uttered syllables I've never
- 11:16heard come out of her mouth. But that's the politics of the
- 11:20union. And and that's, that's the
- 11:22problem with our union. These people are more concerned
- 11:25about keeping their positions and not carrying our routes at
- 11:28our state level. We have it because of the fact
- 11:31that I've heard people say, oh, I don't understand why this
- 11:34person gets to go do orientations or, you know, do
- 11:38all the training. The Orient, what do you call it?
- 11:43What's the other one they do? Personality Seminar.
- 11:48No, no, the, the job, they have job fairs and yeah, they're
- 11:55concerned. They're more concerned about
- 11:57getting off their route than doing their job.
- 11:59Earlier there was a discussion about somebody in regards to,
- 12:03you know, the end of shifties, the red line and all that.
- 12:06And here, here's an ADR getting the wrong answers now in
- 12:10settling for language. Again, settling for language.
- 12:13If you have a vowed grievance, it should be settled or seize
- 12:17and dismiss and assist immediately and then attach a
- 12:20financial penalty that you know accumulates progressively for
- 12:25each, you know, instance after that date.
- 12:28But no, they settle for the languages like that does nothing
- 12:32but encumber management to say, well, we can do this again and
- 12:36get away with it because we're going to get slapped on the
- 12:38wrist. I digress.
- 12:41Thursdays, you know, it's more convention business.
- 12:45You get to the end of Thursday that it's caucus night, which is
- 12:50a foot race from, you know, room to room for different caucuses
- 12:56that have either singular states or groups of states in there.
- 12:59And you get to the pitch your ideas of where you want to lead
- 13:04the union, you know where the union has to concentrate and
- 13:09focus their efforts in regards to helping protect, educate and
- 13:14and promote the rule craft. It's a, it's a marathon.
- 13:19It really is folks. And depending on how many rooms
- 13:23they break it up, how many caucus rooms they break it into
- 13:26it, it can go well until 11 O clock at night.
- 13:29And when it's done, I mean, you're exhausted.
- 13:32Friday morning is more well, you may be able to get into the
- 13:36resolutions Thursday afternoon and then Friday morning and
- 13:39they'll they'll have for any more nominations for the the
- 13:43offices. And then, you know, they'll
- 13:47start with the presidential election.
- 13:49You know, the teller beads collects the ballots, get it out
- 13:53counsel, bring it back and announces the winner.
- 13:55And you know, then they get get up there for the vice president
- 13:59and so on down down the board and in between those sessions,
- 14:03while tellers beads out with the ballots, they're doing more
- 14:07resolutions in, in regards to what's accepted as binding and
- 14:11non binding. It it's a pretty filled
- 14:16atmosphere from, you know, I would say Tuesday on, especially
- 14:21if Tuesday, if they get the resolutions to us.
- 14:24A lot of the times that people say, oh, it looks like a party.
- 14:28The only time we ever partied was after caucus night because
- 14:31everything's said and done. You've made your cases as
- 14:34pointingly as possible to the, the, the body that's there.
- 14:38And unfortunately, most of the body that attends these national
- 14:42conventions until we get it changed is and are people who
- 14:47are affiliated with the national board, whether they be, you
- 14:51know, state officers who've been on, you know, the committees who
- 14:56get it brought, brought into Alexandria, Washington, DC to do
- 14:59their seminars there. Whether it's full time NSS
- 15:04employees who who mostly are required to be there.
- 15:08But you know, fortunately, we can control how many NSS
- 15:13employees go by voting for those people when delegate forms come
- 15:17out in the spring. And and please, you know, don't
- 15:20think that I don't support the NSSI.
- 15:22Do I just don't support individual in the NSS.
- 15:27And I don't think the NSS could be a house entity in Alexandria.
- 15:33The NSS could be run from whoever you know is the director
- 15:37of the NSS, the director of super steward operations that
- 15:41could be run from their own home stage, just like an executive
- 15:44committee person. The fact of the matter is that
- 15:47these people all owe their allegiance and they're paid
- 15:51substantial paychecks to the National Board because the
- 15:54National Board is the ones who created this lopsided pay scale
- 15:59for NSS employees. And they're, they're going to
- 16:03owe their loyalty to the national award as long as that's
- 16:06written into the constitution in regards to their renumeration
- 16:10and bag Friday, after the elections are are done, all said
- 16:14and done, we can continue with the resolutions and they can,
- 16:18depending on, you know, the facility and the requirements to
- 16:22clear the hall. You can go late, especially if
- 16:25the election gets dragged on for multiple phases in regards to
- 16:31how many times you have to elect the committee person or not.
- 16:34And then those are the positions.
- 16:35Usually they have three to four people running for that
- 16:38position. This year we only have one
- 16:41executive committee position games.
- 16:43Is that true? So far we have just Natasha
- 16:48Patterson is the only person currently nominated at the
- 16:52regional conferences for the executive committee bin
- 16:56position. There's nobody from the from the
- 16:59national board that is running. It is Jeanette Dwyer's seat this
- 17:03year. She hasn't announced that she's
- 17:07doing anything or running for any position.
- 17:10And so right now, as it stands before we get to National
- 17:14Convention, the Executive Committeeman 4 year position is
- 17:18currently unopposed. OK, well, so yeah, we're, we're,
- 17:23we're we're in that situation where, yeah, it, it might be a
- 17:27slam dunk in regards to getting through the elections in a
- 17:31fairly quick pace. And then after, you know, after
- 17:37Friday, the close of business Friday, most people are are
- 17:41smart enough to, you know, stay over till Saturday morning.
- 17:45Trying to get out of there and get to the airport on a Friday
- 17:47night and get home in a timely fashion is not reasonable.
- 17:52So I'll be leaving Saturday morning too.
- 17:56But you know, that's the gist of the convention.
- 17:59There's there's a lot of politics involved and you know,
- 18:04in regards to, you know, who's running and and who's who's
- 18:07supporting all that. And we saw that at the last
- 18:10Grand Rapids because of the fact that third people dropped out in
- 18:13the middle of an executive committee position because they
- 18:17wanted another individual who's most likely able to win.
- 18:21It's garner their votes that they would have taken away from
- 18:24that person. And then they turned around and
- 18:26jumped into the race on the next round.
- 18:28So, you know, it's all political folks.
- 18:31They're I can say without any question, at least 50% of our
- 18:37national award is there for their own interests, not for
- 18:41ours. You know, and just as this name,
- 18:46oh God, for daily, you know, spent 20 plus years as our
- 18:51secretary treasurer. I expect the same thing to
- 18:53happen with Tommy Turner because it's a neutral position and, you
- 18:59know, as long as he doesn't do anything, you know, too shady or
- 19:02allow members of the board or the, you know, the national
- 19:06board themselves, you know, to go outside their rights in
- 19:11expensing things. You know, nobody will ever
- 19:14question it and nobody will ever challenge it.
- 19:16I'm, I've always been amazed at with 50 states that we don't
- 19:23have more people running for these positions.
- 19:26And people say, well, you know, they got to work their way up
- 19:29the ladder together. These people have been in the,
- 19:32in the damn union 20-30 years. So what ladder do they have to
- 19:36work up that, you know, the national board ladder?
- 19:39Does that mean that they're, you know, they're confident in the
- 19:42upper state that they can't do national?
- 19:44Well, I, I can say that the same thing about Don Madison, but you
- 19:48know, I, I would, yeah, I have to say that I would compare Don
- 19:51Adam and Gavin Newsom in regards to running the state.
- 19:54Neither one are confident. So, yeah, that's my personal
- 19:57opinion. That's, that's the gist of the
- 20:01conventions. It it's, it's exciting, it's
- 20:06intriguing, it's boring. It it's, you know, it, it's a
- 20:10whole soap opera And I, I wish that we would ever get to the
- 20:16point where we would have. One number one vote in our
- 20:19Constitution because that would just destroy national boards
- 20:24whole. And I mean, you know, it's a
- 20:26chokehold on our craft. Well, that's my this will be my
- 20:32third National Convention. I'm going to tell any first
- 20:35timers listening, please go to the First timers seminar.
- 20:40You're going to hear possibly from Mr. Jim Slaughter, who is a
- 20:44resident of parliamentarian. He's going to give you a handout
- 20:47on how to ask a question, how to call the question, how to make
- 20:52an inquiry. Because while we as the body
- 20:56would like to recognize you, if you have a question, you have to
- 21:00say it properly. So if I get up to the microphone
- 21:03and I want to make a point, I have to say my name.
- 21:07So delegate North Carolina, then you have to wait to be
- 21:11recognized by the chairperson and then you can have your point
- 21:15of information, point of personal privilege, a question,
- 21:19call the question, whatever. I hope it this one because last
- 21:24time, I think last time James and Bill, correct me if I'm
- 21:27wrong, they were in Florida. They had the new vehicle.
- 21:31I would love to see that. It like Bill said, y'all it's
- 21:37you see pictures online, people have them drink.
- 21:41This is at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando.
- 21:43There's a big pool. You may see people hanging out
- 21:46by the pool. They need that drink because it
- 21:49is a whirlwind. Basically from Tuesday like Bill
- 21:53said until Friday night, you're going non-stop and you barely
- 21:59have enough time to eat breakfast in the morning, go
- 22:03into session and depending on your state, they're watching
- 22:07you. I want to make this point of
- 22:09information. They're watching you make sure
- 22:11that you attend everything. We had something to chat that
- 22:15asked if they should go to caucus night.
- 22:18Depending on your state, they're going to make sure you go to
- 22:21everything. And they have the authority, at
- 22:24least in my state of North Carolina, to dock your delegate
- 22:27pay as you're a paid delegate if you don't attend so much of the
- 22:32convention. So keep that in mind.
- 22:34You may be tempted to sneak off and go to the bar and get a
- 22:37drink and play hooky from the from the proceedings, but your
- 22:42delegate, larger secretary, treasurer or a member of your
- 22:45state board may be out there watching it.
- 22:49So it's, it's fun, it's boring, it's pompous circumstance.
- 22:57It's the business of the union. I hope to meet a lot of you.
- 23:00There. Just listen to this voice.
- 23:04But it's a great time and just think of it like this.
- 23:09If you're a paid delegate and you're voting on these
- 23:12resolutions and voting for president and vice president all
- 23:15on down the line, the math indicates that your vote
- 23:19represents the views and opinions, the hopes and dreams
- 23:24of roughly 100 rural carrier in most cases.
- 23:27So keep that in mind when you're making your decisions, James.
- 23:32I agree with everything you guys have said on here.
- 23:35I just want to, well, I disagree with a little bit of what Bill
- 23:39said, but that's okay. We have the right to disagree.
- 23:42Fuck. You.
- 23:46But. The big thing, like Josh said,
- 23:51come whether you are a delegate or an alternate delegate.
- 23:55Even if you're not a delegate, if you're just a member, you can
- 23:59attend National Convention and you should.
- 24:04And the reason why you want to attend as a delegate, you are
- 24:09the voice of the voiceless. You are the voice of the
- 24:12carriers who can't come to National Convention, whether
- 24:16it's because they're they can't hire enough relief carriers
- 24:19because of POV routes and the Rcas can't afford to buy a car,
- 24:24let alone maintain one at the wages that we pay.
- 24:27Or could be no Rcas because you have a toxic and hostile
- 24:31manager. So the carriers can't attend
- 24:34National Convention. So you're speaking on behalf of
- 24:38those who can't speak at National Convention.
- 24:41If you're an alternate delegate, it's important you attend too,
- 24:46because guess what? You are the backup to the the
- 24:49delegate, and you should attend everything as well.
- 24:53Because guess what? There's a possibility you could
- 24:56be moved up to delegate and you better know what's going on when
- 25:00you get up there. Otherwise you're going to be
- 25:03left behind scrambling to figure it all out.
- 25:05But the good news is, is there are people who get together to
- 25:09go through resolutions, to talk about what's going on, to figure
- 25:13out whether to support or object to resolutions.
- 25:19And our good friend Wild Bill does put on a resolutions
- 25:24committee for delegates. And they go through the
- 25:28delegate, all the resolutions in a room until they get through
- 25:33them all. And there could be 11 o'clock
- 25:3612:00, one o'clock 2:00 in the morning.
- 25:38But they get through all the resolutions in one night.
- 25:42You know, big things happen at National Convention.
- 25:46Bill was talking about the pomp and circumstance at the
- 25:48beginning of National Convention.
- 25:51Unfortunately, part of the cost savings for National Convention
- 25:58comes with those people who speak on Tuesday.
- 26:02Other than the Postmaster General, our president and a few
- 26:06of the people we have, like our legal team, APCUCVS, Aetna and
- 26:16all those other advertisers that also have tables, they're paying
- 26:22to be there. They're paying to advertise
- 26:25there, and that's supporting our National Convention.
- 26:28So they have to be able to advertise on Tuesday.
- 26:32Speaking of tables, there will be a room where there will be
- 26:35tables. Not only will you have your
- 26:38candidates for national office in the room, you'll also have
- 26:42sales tables like PJ signs where I get my shirts to say United
- 26:46States Postal Service, rural carrier.
- 26:48I either get them there or I get them from my pack table.
- 26:51Who buys them from him or cool dad Ass was there last year
- 26:59right across from my table. They were actually set up right
- 27:01there. They also had a table set up for
- 27:04the Insignia store for the NRLCA.
- 27:08But that's another thing. You should visit the tables of
- 27:11the people who are there to support or run for office.
- 27:15And that helps our National Convention as well because the
- 27:18people that are selling stuff there, they paid for those
- 27:22tables and that supports National Convention convention.
- 27:25You know, when we pay for the banquets and we pay for, you
- 27:30know, other stuff at National Convention that supports the
- 27:33convention. But also don't be afraid to step
- 27:38up to the mic. It may be your first time, but
- 27:40guess what? There are people that have 1520
- 27:43years of experience of going to National Convention that still
- 27:47make mistakes on the mic. So don't be afraid to make a
- 27:51mistake. I make plenty of mistakes.
- 27:54I get called out for them all the time.
- 27:56It's OK, I'm used to them. I actually acknowledge my
- 28:01mistakes because I'm only human. But they'll definitely try and
- 28:05throw it down my throat. But don't be afraid.
- 28:09But James, if you don't make a mistake, that means you're not
- 28:13making effort. It's easy to go through like not
- 28:16attempting something and not making mistakes and
- 28:20accomplishing nothing. The effort itself is worthwhile
- 28:23and praiseworthy. OK, yes, and yes, you are right
- 28:27in regards to the people that they turn around and they do
- 28:30support, you know, through their payments and all for
- 28:33sponsorship. But it's like watching a a a a
- 28:36movie. OK, I don't need 18 commercials
- 28:39in between, you know, the the movie breaks.
- 28:42OK, I don't need A-40 minute dissertation from NARF.
- 28:48I, I need, you know, clear, concise, let's get to the
- 28:52business of the convention. That's what I want.
- 28:55And, you know, look, if I'm going to hear from the
- 28:57postmaster general, OK, I don't need to hear from a local, you
- 29:01know, district manager at, at ASEC also, because you know,
- 29:06they're, they're, you know, they're, they're hand in hand
- 29:09with their policies. So I, I don't want to hear any
- 29:12more gratuitous bullshit from somebody who's sitting there
- 29:16violating the contract day in and day out with messages to
- 29:19their postmasters and managers, supervisors in regards to how to
- 29:24belittle the crap that are under them.
- 29:27You know, if you want to put the postmaster down out there, fine.
- 29:30I don't need to hear from anybody else, you know, from the
- 29:32post office. We all know what really goes on
- 29:35every day in our post offices, and that's easy.
- 29:39Yeah. And somebody said this, you
- 29:41know, as an alternate delegate, can you actually stand to speak?
- 29:45You need to be to suspend the rules to allow an alternate to
- 29:51speak. Now I actually have experience
- 29:53with that because at my state convention I had Bridget Boziak
- 29:59suspend the rules for me to present a resolution at state
- 30:03convention. So it is possible.
- 30:07At National, it's a little harder to get a 2/3 vote to
- 30:10suspend the rules than it is at a state convention, but it is
- 30:14possible. And don't be disheartened if
- 30:18they say no. It happens.
- 30:20But when they say yes, Oh yeah, it's great.
- 30:23It's a great feeling to be recognized, even as an alternate
- 30:27delegate to be able to speak. And yes, it does go long
- 30:31sometimes. However, there are time limits
- 30:34on things they do. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
- 30:38they try to set time limit of closing business at normal
- 30:43business hours so that way we can get to other things like
- 30:47seminars or the banquet. But Friday it goes until it's
- 30:52done. And it's the same with caucus
- 30:55night. What did we get done at like,
- 30:58what, 1:00 in the morning last year, Bill?
- 31:01Oh God, yeah, yeah. You know, but there were so many
- 31:05candidates that they actually had to have us have rest breaks
- 31:10in between caucus rooms so that everybody had a chance to go to
- 31:15all the caucus rooms. But yes, it is a very long, very
- 31:20tedious process. But it is worthwhile to fight
- 31:25for this craft. It's worthwhile to take those
- 31:28steps and we are getting to that point of getting close to
- 31:35National Convention, so we wanted to let you guys know what
- 31:38you could expect. Bill, you have anything else you
- 31:40want to add about National Convention?
- 31:43It's a it's a huge learning curve.
- 31:46I had a first timer attend our Pennsylvania convention with N
- 31:50this year and was just amazed at everything that transpires
- 31:55during convention itself. This is 10 times as much just
- 32:01because of the amount of people there.
- 32:02You know, there's there's for us.
- 32:05It is 10 times as many people go to the Pennsylvania State
- 32:07convention. You will run into people who
- 32:12have different points of views and I would suggest if you do
- 32:15address it cordially lightly in in regards to 11 human being to
- 32:21another and if they disagree, explain you're welcome to
- 32:25disagree. I don't feel that way.
- 32:27I don't believe that, you know, this contract was in our best
- 32:31interest. I don't believe that they're,
- 32:33they have, you know, the carriers in mind when they
- 32:37present these articles for consideration.
- 32:40The inclusion of the contract disagreed politely.
- 32:43OK, I I've never seen a fight break out at the National
- 32:48Convention. You know, I'd like to start one,
- 32:51but the fact of the matter is I've never seen one because most
- 32:53people either, you know, will walk away from you or argue with
- 32:57you or they'll discuss it with you.
- 32:59But there's a certain decorum that you have to maintain in
- 33:03spite of how you personally feel about that individual.
- 33:06And I'm pretty sure you all know how I feel about about Don
- 33:10Madison. But I will afford him all the
- 33:12courtesies of the office of president.
- 33:15I can respect the office of president.
- 33:17I don't have to respect the man. And I don't though, you know,
- 33:21hopefully, you know, if somebody actually, we actually get this,
- 33:25you know, episode out on air, you know, I'm I don't like you,
- 33:30you know, period. I don't think you're concerned
- 33:33with the craft. I don't think you're concerned
- 33:35with the future because you're retiring soon.
- 33:38And you know, that's not the way.
- 33:40You, you, you don't take the golden parachute for a year.
- 33:43Just see cruising to retirement. You, you, you are in a position
- 33:47as a service and you should be fighting for 24 hours a day
- 33:51every day. Oh, we do all this work.
- 33:54We do, you know, after the stuff you do is travel.
- 33:57OK, I'm sorry. That's the inconvenience for
- 33:59you, but this is the position you signed up for.
- 34:03So do the best job possible, you know, and and don't give us this
- 34:09glad hand language that you have.
- 34:11You know, that that almost mirrored what the jury said last
- 34:14year. I I couldn't believe that you
- 34:16guys almost, you know, sat down next to each other, wrote your
- 34:19feet without saying, oh, put this in, put that in it.
- 34:22It was just such a slap in my face.
- 34:24I just, like I said, you know, let's have a cage match after
- 34:30banquet. How about that?
- 34:33OK, Josh, no, we've gone past that political speech.
- 34:36Go ahead. I want a commitment from you
- 34:41James, from you Bill and from me, one of us.
- 34:46We'll take a moment of personal privilege to thank the non paid
- 34:51deli, the non paid guests and ultimate delegates that are in
- 34:56the audience because I think we need to show our appreciation
- 35:00for people that are willing to come on their own time and learn
- 35:07this. I think your suggestion is going
- 35:09to be taken up by the National board since they listen to this.
- 35:12Hello, Don. You're welcome.
- 35:14You can have that one. I'm not.
- 35:16Going to mention somebody who's going to be a Sergeant at Arms
- 35:20like I told that old lady a couple years ago.
- 35:24It in my way and it's going to be a bad night for you.
- 35:28I'm kidding. Well before I was so rudely
- 35:32interrupted. Jesus, I said.
- 35:35Excuse me, go ahead. Sorry, Sir.
- 35:38That's all right. May culpa.
- 35:41May culpa. Wow, interesting with the last
- 35:45name. This is the.
- 35:49This is game time, y'all. This is where the business of
- 35:52the union is conducted. This is where we take what we
- 35:57want our contract to be and put it up to the members to vote to
- 36:01make changes, to accept it as on the face of it or to flat out
- 36:06deny it. Now, I don't know how to say
- 36:11this, but we have to put our best effort forward to make sure
- 36:18that what could go into our next contract is to our best
- 36:21interest. We don't, we don't have the
- 36:23luxury of thinking about just the one person that wrote that
- 36:26resolution. I mean, there was a resolution
- 36:30last year that I remember that no carrier be allowed to deliver
- 36:32after dark. OK, well, what about Alaska?
- 36:36They deliver in the dark. So while it's good in theory, it
- 36:41may not work for everybody. But as they said, this is where
- 36:47views are different. We all want better, but
- 36:51everybody has a different way of getting there.
- 36:55For people in Texas, it's going to be different than for people
- 36:57up in Minnesota. But all I ask is that we not
- 37:02have a repeat in James's ability to jump in on this.
- 37:05I do not want to have someone come up to the microphone or the
- 37:10chair, have to address the the body, to chastise someone, bad
- 37:17mouthing someone in the body. To me, that is counterintuitive
- 37:24to our mission. We need to be professionals out
- 37:28there because the fact that it had to be done three times to me
- 37:35is sickening. I'm not.
- 37:39One time is. I'm not.
- 37:40I'm not. I Yeah, one time is too many.
- 37:43And like your mom told you what you should have learned in
- 37:47preschool, kindergarten, if you ain't got nothing to say, keep
- 37:52your damn mouth shut. Oh, wait.
- 37:56Well, that was right. Every politician.
- 37:57I digress, but I hope to see all of y'all there.
- 38:04Just listen for the raspy North Carolina voice.
- 38:09But it's gonna be fun. We're gonna, you're gonna be a
- 38:12lot country, gonna make new friends.
- 38:16But just be ready. Don't have the Rose colored
- 38:20glasses on. Think I'm just gonna have a good
- 38:22old time and I'm gonna have a lot of free time.
- 38:24You ain't. You're gonna be working hard.
- 38:27And I dare say when you're sitting in there, especially
- 38:30during elections, I would much rather be running my route even
- 38:35as hot as hell as it is here in North Carolina.
- 38:37Especially when you're going till 10:00 at night.
- 38:41Like someone said that it is more mental worth than doing a
- 38:45route. Yes that's it right there.
- 38:48Preach it girl, preach it. So I'm fading, but that's that's
- 38:53all I. Got.
- 38:56That's OK, so. To follow up on it and to follow
- 38:59up on this comment about the attacks on the floor and and I
- 39:03was surprised that the Palmitarian did not actually
- 39:07held on, you know, about the same rules in regards to that,
- 39:11but just sat there like a lump through all three attacks.
- 39:15I mean, you know that that should have been considered to
- 39:18be out of order from the did go. And you know when you can't
- 39:23command a room to follow your orders as a chair in regards to
- 39:28treating people respectfully and everything, and you know there's
- 39:31something wrong with your ability to lead because they
- 39:34attacked and then attacked again.
- 39:37So, you know, I hate to tell you, but you know that that was
- 39:42a sign of your lack of leadership.
- 39:44It also shows that in my view, the person that did that attack,
- 39:50they're safe to take a measure and probably, I don't know,
- 39:54maybe not outright eliminate, but maybe doctor, delegate, pay
- 40:00an appropriate amount. Oh, here I go with something
- 40:03new. But I mean, like I said, we're
- 40:06adults, allegedly. Supposedly.
- 40:10Act like it, supposedly, Hopefully.
- 40:14I couldn't believe that in an environment where we are trying
- 40:19to unite the craft and fight for the craft, that people could not
- 40:27contain their vitriol. Instead of trying to work to
- 40:33better everything for the rural craft, they would rather do
- 40:39attacks on individuals or comments on individuals instead
- 40:45of focusing on on why they are there in the 1st place.
- 40:49And I'm going to I'm going to say this.
- 40:53The individuals who were commented on at the mikes for
- 40:59their toxic and hostile comments were all elected delegates.
- 41:07They were not alternates. They were non not non delegates.
- 41:12They were all elected delegates. It took some digging, but I
- 41:17found each individual who was involved in that.
- 41:21I know who they are, but that is up to their state to take care
- 41:27of that issue. It's could be brought up by the
- 41:31chair, but ultimately, because they are state delegates,
- 41:36they're the delegates for the state.
- 41:38It is supposed to be taken care of by the delegate at large.
- 41:43I know that a lot of people find me controversial because I
- 41:47haven't gone up the chain, started at local, then state and
- 41:51then up to national. But what I do have is a care for
- 41:55the craft and that is why the first person to actually make a
- 41:59comment that night was me, because I was told by a
- 42:04alternate delegate that they were spoken to in a negative way
- 42:10by a delegate. And then we have a delegate step
- 42:13up to the mic and tell the chair that it needs to stop also
- 42:19because that delegate was attacked by a delegate verbally.
- 42:24And then the chair got notified by another person that a
- 42:29delegate had made a negative comment as well to where the
- 42:33chair had to make a comment on stage 3 instances within two
- 42:39days. So if you're going to make
- 42:41comments, make them at the mic. Make your difference.
- 42:45Be on the record. Be on the record.
- 42:48Don't hide behind anonymous names or anonymous comments.
- 42:53Be an adult and put your name behind it.
- 42:56Show some gumption. Because there are first timers
- 42:59that'll go up there and put their name behind their
- 43:01comments. Why can't you?
- 43:04Anyway, now we have an announcement to make, don't we
- 43:08guys? Yes, we do.
- 43:10Bill, you want to. Nobody told me, but what?
- 43:14What? What?
- 43:18Yeah. I feel like I'm in Antarctica.
- 43:20You guys have an announcement to make and I don't know about it.
- 43:23You do know? About it you do.
- 43:25Know about it. You were the first one that was
- 43:26talked to about it. Give me a hint.
- 43:32It was an agreement between the three of us on this.
- 43:36Our future. Yes, we're making here.
- 43:39Yes, we are making an announcement that this will be
- 43:44our last episode through National Convention.
- 43:48Oh. God, OK, God, I thought you were
- 43:50coming up with something new. Yeah, no, but we talked about
- 43:54what we were going to do last week before we had no recorders.
- 43:58So we stuck around for another week with everybody gearing up
- 44:03for National Convention and getting everything together.
- 44:06Bill having to get all his stuff together, get deal with all the
- 44:11issues he's dealing with with carriers, me dealing with all
- 44:15the setup and preparing for running for office and Josh
- 44:19agreeing with us as well that he has to get ready for National
- 44:23Convention as well and set himself up for that.
- 44:25We decided that we are not going to produce any more episodes
- 44:30until after National Convention. We can.
- 44:33We will still be available on social media in the Discord
- 44:38server and I'll be available on Facebook.
- 44:41I'm sure Bill will too and Josh as well.
- 44:44But we will not be taking the time to record episodes until
- 44:49after National Convention. Go ahead, Josh.
- 44:53You want to talk on this? I'll let you do the talking.
- 44:58OK, Bill you. Don't talk.
- 45:00Yeah, yeah, OK. I mean, but but the thing the
- 45:03thing of it is that there there's a lot that goes into
- 45:07getting ready for this. Ames has to prep, you know,
- 45:11especially hard because of the fact that, you know, he's facing
- 45:15an uphill battle with the status quo.
- 45:17And I I suggested that we do it up to the week of, but with
- 45:23James laying out his scheduling it, it wasn't advantageous for
- 45:27him to participate. And I said, look, you know, I'll
- 45:31do whatever I have to, to support you.
- 45:33And I says, and Josh is willing to, I said we can make it
- 45:36unanimous. I said, you know, I'm more
- 45:39considered, I, I'm more in favor of James being as well prepared
- 45:43as he possibly can be. And he has a lot more, you know,
- 45:47to, to get ready for, in regards to, you know, his table, people
- 45:51manning it, his caucus night, his speech, his acceptance
- 45:55speech, you know, for, for the nomination, his acceptance
- 45:58speech as a new president of the NRLCA.
- 46:03It it, it's, it's a bit much and you know, I, I wish I'd have
- 46:07done that probably one or two times.
- 46:09But the fact of the matter that I can, you know, do fly better
- 46:14than James can where he prepares to be more, you know, prepared
- 46:18it. It's understandable that, you
- 46:19know, we discontinue this until the national convention's over.
- 46:24I mean that the Sunday most, most of you guys are getting in
- 46:27there Sunday, aren't you? I'm getting in Saturday.
- 46:30I figured out if Saturday and Sunday or Monday.
- 46:34At this point I'm still figuring that out.
- 46:36Well, I, I see me AL's comment there, you know, I, I tell you
- 46:40what, OK, and, and James and I haven't discussed this, but as
- 46:45much as a controversial figure as he is, I'm a bit more
- 46:49galvanizing and polarizing as far as being a controversial
- 46:53person. So, you know, I will discuss
- 46:56with James as far as how far he wants me to get involved in the
- 47:00convention itself in regards to his support.
- 47:03I mean, I'll be there to support him, but do you really want the,
- 47:08you know, the say tongue and Putin, you know, going to battle
- 47:13together because, you know, nobody likes either one of them.
- 47:16But that's the discussion that James and I will have to be
- 47:20having in the future here because I don't want to affect
- 47:23his tendency any negative fashion.
- 47:26And some people do see me as that.
- 47:28So we'll have that discussion later.
- 47:30Well, the good news is I already have my nominator and it's not
- 47:34Bill. Yep.
- 47:37And so now I'm working on people to help at my table and people
- 47:43to walk with me on caucus night. You know, that's a big thing and
- 47:49getting everything organized for this.
- 47:52You know, I'm not a big early planner, but this is such a
- 47:57pivotal moment for this union that I believe I need to prepare
- 48:01every single option that can happen, every single question
- 48:07that can be asked at caucus. I have to prepare everything
- 48:11together before that. And it's not easy.
- 48:16It's not easy to step up there with absolutely no clue how
- 48:23everything works and do a three day campaign and still get
- 48:28almost a third of the votes. Well, 1/4 of the votes and then
- 48:34the next year learning as much as you can for the the year and
- 48:39expanding your your knowledge base.
- 48:43Then turning around and also helping carriers left and right.
- 48:47But The thing is, is I have been an advocate of this union and
- 48:52getting people involved, getting people stepping up as stewards
- 48:56stepping up and doing things for the craft.
- 48:59So much so that now I am asking carriers to up for me and.
- 49:05Y'all. Oh, it's him.
- 49:07Thanks, Josh, But I know that caucus night walking, caucus
- 49:15night is a lot of walking. You'll get your steps in for
- 49:17sure, but if you choose to support, then talk with your
- 49:22delegate at large and let them know that you will be walking
- 49:25with a candidate for caucus. So that way they can mark you
- 49:30down as you are there. And guess what?
- 49:33When you go into their caucus room, they're going to see you
- 49:35walking in the caucus. So they know you've been
- 49:37attending caucus and seeing what's going on.
- 49:40Other than that, if you want to help support out, just send me a
- 49:44message on my Facebook page. Other than that, you know, we're
- 49:49going to say good night to everybody here until after
- 49:53National Convention and then we'll pick it back up and tell
- 49:56you what's going on. After National Convention, I
- 50:00believe Frequency, you'll be doing the live streaming of the
- 50:06conversations going on like last year.
- 50:08Hopefully we'll get a couple more people that'll step up and
- 50:11help, even though Frequency was great at it last year.
- 50:15But until then, what's your final thoughts, Josh?
- 50:19We're about to enter the Thunderdome with the convention.
- 50:24It's going to be fun. It's going to be pomp and
- 50:28circumstance. It's going to be boring.
- 50:30It's going to be a requirement of you to be involved.
- 50:36If you know a delegate that is going and you're not going,
- 50:42please encourage them and let them know that what they're
- 50:45about to do, they represent the views, opinions and strategies
- 50:50to use your terms. James of 100 carriers.
- 50:54OK. To those of you that are going,
- 50:57remember it's not all about you. It's about the craft.
- 51:02We want to represent the craft. I hope to meet all all of you
- 51:08there. Just look for the dorky looking
- 51:10guy from North Carolina. But like I said at the opening,
- 51:17it's hot hot as hell. We had a heat index near where I
- 51:22am in North Carolina of 110 this year this week and it feels like
- 51:29a year as long as this summer's been.
- 51:31People are dying in this heat. It's 9:00 at night.
- 51:34If y'all haven't started hydrating by now, good luck
- 51:39tomorrow. Start hydrating 12 hours before
- 51:42you go into work. I don't want to hear one more
- 51:46report of a city or a rural carrier or hell even one of our
- 51:52supposed competitors Amazon, FedEx, DHL, UPSI don't want to
- 51:58hear of anybody getting sick and or dying in this heat.
- 52:02I haven't seen it this bad this long for a long time.
- 52:07This is an exceptional summer so be safe if y'all are going to
- 52:12convention. Safe travels.
- 52:16Good luck, I hope to see you there and just remember you are
- 52:21the most important delivery at the end of the day.
- 52:24Get home to your family safe and sound.
- 52:26Yes, Bill, I stole your line again.
- 52:30You break Thief, thief, thief. Well, I, you know, I, I want to
- 52:41put it on record that I'm exceptionally proud of James in
- 52:44regards to his social media platforms that he's maintained
- 52:48and put information out there for the irregular carriers.
- 52:52And that's the type of leadership that we should be
- 52:55seeking. Constant communication in
- 52:58regards to what's going on with your route adjustments, whether
- 53:03it's, you know, anything going on in the office of being forced
- 53:08to take pieces of vacant routes, people taking your vehicle
- 53:12without your permission. It, it's one of those things
- 53:16that, you know, I, I'm not exceptionally well at, you know,
- 53:20with, with the social media. I, I'm a, you know, questions
- 53:24and answers type person. You give me a question, I'll
- 53:27give you the answer. You know, I, I get phone calls,
- 53:29texts, IMS and everything all week long.
- 53:32I'm, I'm surprised how much interaction I have with people
- 53:36across the country, not just, you know, Mike, SD and C or
- 53:40state, but across the country. And, you know, I'm happy to help
- 53:45them. You know, that's part of the
- 53:47problem with our national board. These are positions of service
- 53:52and, and you're not there to make your retirement, you know,
- 53:55had your retirement. You're not there, you know,
- 53:58because you like the authority and the control and everything.
- 54:01You're there for the betterment of every person underneath you
- 54:05in the craft, and that includes the non union members.
- 54:09It's like in my office, I said, if they attack a non union
- 54:12member, how long before they come after a union member for
- 54:15the same offense? So you have to stand up for each
- 54:19and every individual in the craft.
- 54:22And I'm glad to say that James is of enough integrity that when
- 54:27he makes a mistake, he admits it And and and, you know, thanks a
- 54:30person for bringing it to his, you know, knowledge that, you
- 54:33know, he made a you don't hear that from our board.
- 54:37You don't hear them apologizing for carriers having to pay money
- 54:41back after the last last mini mail survey when they were
- 54:45overpaid. But they they were never
- 54:48overpaid when their routes were over evaluation over A48K.
- 54:53And for the national board to unanimously agree that that was
- 54:57the best option out of three that the post office gave them,
- 55:00it gives me slight concern that these people carry about us at
- 55:05all. If they gave you three options
- 55:07and they all suck, you should have told them blow it out your
- 55:10ass. And, and I'm telling you, if I
- 55:13was president, I would say that exactly you can blow this out
- 55:17your ass. This is not in the best interest
- 55:20of our craft. You screwed up, OK?
- 55:24The engineers screwed up. You knew this was coming along
- 55:27and you did it anyway. So unless you want to turn
- 55:31around and pay every person over A48K for all the hours they've
- 55:36been working, like like I did for six years until I retired
- 55:40and shut the hell up because you're coming after us for
- 55:43nickels and Dimes, but we've been saving you millions.
- 55:47Like I said, James, I'm, I'm proud of you in regards to you
- 55:50reaching out, educating, informing people.
- 55:53And you know, I, I pray that we get this changed this year
- 55:57because after this contract, as I'm sitting in my caucus room
- 56:02and Don Madsen and and you know, Patrick Pitts and Adams and
- 56:06Mickey as they come through the rooms, guess what I'm going to
- 56:11ask him. Don, in this magazine, you said
- 56:15you were looking for substantial wage increases.
- 56:19You were looking for the elimination of Table 2.
- 56:22How did you fall so short of those goals that we were
- 56:27seeking? And how dare you stand up here
- 56:30and go run for re election on the basis that you failed to
- 56:34perform and provide what you said you stood for.
- 56:38I want some and accountability. I, I, you know, I, I amazed,
- 56:44like, like I said, you know, people, you can't call them
- 56:47sheep. Well, if you're not sheep, then
- 56:50you're parasites, you know, and you're just attached to the fish
- 56:53taking you for the swim because that's the way you're going to
- 56:57make your mark in, in this union being a long term Dr. or ADR or,
- 57:03you know, you know, as as executive committee person,
- 57:07whatever. I'm sorry if you don't want to
- 57:10work the long hours, OK, If you don't want to travel, if you
- 57:14don't want to address the issues that affect us every day.
- 57:18And that's the biggest problem. The everyday issues is what's
- 57:21corroding the craft. And yet I don't hear anything
- 57:27from the national board in regard to addressing these
- 57:30issues. How many step fours do we have
- 57:32sitting at arbitration? It could improve the life of the
- 57:36craft. How many decisions do AD, Rs and
- 57:40DRS make when they settle for language instead of going after
- 57:43these bastards? I want better leadership.
- 57:47I want directed leadership, informative leadership,
- 57:51commutative leadership. I want somebody there who knows
- 57:55the daily trials and tribulations that you all go
- 57:57through. And that's not one person on
- 57:59that board, except maybe John Adams, who recently moved up to
- 58:03his position. Ladies and gentlemen, you know I
- 58:06can go on. I'll keep it short and shorten
- 58:09it now. I believe in the craft.
- 58:12I I'm just disillusioned by the board and I hope we get the
- 58:15opportunity. We do have the opportunity this
- 58:19year to change it, change it for the better.
- 58:21But you rely on the other people with their experience to help
- 58:24guide you and tutor you. You have an entire support staff
- 58:28in Alexandria, VA to assist you. We've been there for years and
- 58:34can help you tremendously. In regards to what who have to
- 58:39do on a day-to-day basis, who you meet with, where you have to
- 58:41be and everything else. But the fact of the matter is if
- 58:45you don't put the hours in, you're not going to get the
- 58:49results. And if you're not going to put
- 58:51the hours in, get the hell out of the position.
- 58:53Service does not mean you get rich off of it.
- 58:57Service means you're of value to each and every member of our
- 59:03craft. Josh says it's going to be hot
- 59:05again, sticky, sweaty. Start hydrating tonight.
- 59:10Don't wait till tomorrow. Salt, electrolytes, whatever you
- 59:13need to do. Your brakes get out of that
- 59:16vehicle, find some shade. If they have any problems with
- 59:19you having undocumented stationary events and you know,
- 59:23explain to them, you know, your messages tell us that, that, you
- 59:26know, you gather the vehicle and and you know, prevent heat
- 59:29stroke or reheat prostration. But the fact of the matter is,
- 59:32you're the first one responsible for your own safety, and nobody
- 59:36in management can contest that. Go out there, do your jobs
- 59:39professionally, proficiently, efficiently.
- 59:43Be safe. You know, I, I can't emphasize
- 59:47that enough. Be safe, be smart, and take care
- 59:50of yourselves. Who are the most important
- 59:52delivery of the day? Get home to your loved ones
- 59:55because they'll miss you. Post Office will.
- 59:59They'll have you, God bless you all within a day.
- 1:00:02James. Thank you guys.
- 1:00:04I really appreciate you guys coming on to do this and I
- 1:00:07appreciate you guys giving me the opportunity to step back and
- 1:00:11work on my campaign on its own. You know, we are at the pivotal
- 1:00:16point of this union. The comments that carriers are
- 1:00:19making today are the exact same comments they were making in the
- 1:00:25late 1960s. Word for word.
- 1:00:30And yet the people who have been around since that time frame,
- 1:00:37been alive since that time frame, don't recognize the
- 1:00:42history there. And history is important.
- 1:00:46Our history as not only an organization, one of the oldest
- 1:00:53organizations in the United States, as well as our craft and
- 1:01:00union. History matters, and those that
- 1:01:04choose to ignore history tend to repeat it, and they are
- 1:01:09repeating it right now. We have an opportunity to make a
- 1:01:13difference every single day. It doesn't have to be a single
- 1:01:18person at the top of the organization.
- 1:01:21It can be each and every one of us on the workroom floor.
- 1:01:25I know when I'm done being president, I will be going back
- 1:01:29down onto the workroom floor. I will be going back to work her
- 1:01:33out because that is what you are supposed to do when you are in
- 1:01:38one of these service positions. I'm a carrier.
- 1:01:41I will be a carrier because that's what we do.
- 1:01:45Carriers are the only people in this organization I care about.
- 1:01:51I can have interests in taking care of good management.
- 1:01:56I can have interest in making sure things run smoothly for the
- 1:02:01organization. But my love for the royal
- 1:02:04carrier shines through it all. Take care of your brothers and
- 1:02:07sisters out there of this craft. As both guys said, it's going to
- 1:02:12be hot. There's going to be storms.
- 1:02:14We just had our 30th tornado in the state of Michigan yesterday
- 1:02:22and it's not going to stop. We've had tornadoes in Michigan
- 1:02:26in December, so flooding, another big concern we've had
- 1:02:32out there. Now I want to take a moment of
- 1:02:36personal privilege. One of our listeners in our chat
- 1:02:40stated one of her fellow rural carriers is battling cancer.
- 1:02:46So I'm going to take a moment and say a prayer for her and
- 1:02:49hopefully that she beats that cancer.
- 1:02:53But we've got to do something for each other.
- 1:02:56Reaching out to your brother or sister carrier and helping them,
- 1:03:00giving guidance, things like that.
- 1:03:02Just do anything to help your brother or sister out, even if
- 1:03:07it's just lending them an ear. Well, they vent about the same
- 1:03:10thing you've heard about 300 times because at the end of the
- 1:03:14day, we're all in this together. Good night everybody.
- 1:03:18Good night and good luck.
