- Dillon Geralds: What's up, guys? Welcome back to another episode of Bluegrass State of Mind. We are live tonight for this episode. This is something that we are hoping to start doing more often just because there's going to be an overlap between basketball and football in the upcoming months. Fellas, Mason, Colton's back with us, had a little time off. Hope he got good, got straight. but you know, last week, Colton I looked at Mason at Kolton Myatt: I went on vacation. I don't know what Mason: Mm-hmm. Kolton Myatt: for anyone that took that as if like Dillon Geralds: Well, you know I I didn't want to I alright I'll I'll I'll give the reason behind that. Sometimes, you know, like when people are gone from their house, I didn't want to say that the I guess I could say now 'cause you're back home, but whenever people are gone, like I don't want to be like, hey, Colin's gone on vacation, somebody go go to his house. You know, I didn't want to be like I didn't want to I had the right mind. Kolton Myatt: Yeah, I appreciate I appreciate it. But just to just clarify I was just like on vacation. Mason: Just to clarify, I was only at the beach. Kolton Myatt: Yeah. Dillon Geralds: but you know last week, Colin, I I I told Mason, I said, Mason, there has been very few times since we started this podcast that I have looked forward to an episode. And like that's all I could think about after the game was like, my goodness, I can't wait to get this episode in. We are going to have so much fun with it. And that was after the South Carolina overtime win. And then it happens again. So that's what we're going to be talking about all tonight. We're going to be unpacking the LSU game. you can see the title of the storm. Will Stein said it best after the South Carolina game. We are the storm, baby. We are the storm. There is a storm brewing, and it's the University of the Kentucky Wildcat football program. So on October 10th, Saturday, there's just a lot of momentum built up for this game. The Power K is coming back, it's homecoming. You know, usually people they'll they'll schedule a homecoming game against a rinky dink team, somebody you you're gonna get that win. No. We schedule it for Lane Kiffin and the LSU top 10 ranked Tigers coming in to Kroger Field. And we go and we we we repeat exactly what we just done the the week before. We go out 35-34. We go for the extra point in overtime. Will Stein, man, we can't talk about him enough. We'll get into that more as well. But we move on to five and one this season. Colt, and I was telling Mason before you got in here. That is the first time, because I got some interesting facts for y'all. That's the first time that a first year head coach in Kentucky school program history has started five and one since what year? Give me a year. What year do you think? Somebody out there listening to Kolton Myatt: Mm. Dillon Geralds: it. What year do you think? Kolton Myatt: I won't I'm gonna say s I'm gonna say f Dillon Geralds: First your head coach, not overtime. Kolton Myatt: I wanna say f nineteen fifty five or something like that. Dillon Geralds: Mmm, use it used in the right century, 1913. 1913. Kolton Myatt: No wow. Mason: Wild. Dillon Geralds: Yeah, it it's been a while. but we moved to five and one overall, three and one in SEC play, two top ten wins already on the season. I I had a stat here I wanted to to share with you. I took a picture of this and I was like, wow, this is just insane when you think about what you're looking at, the predictions. Okay, so going into this season. We had the third or fourth, and I don't hear y'all's y'all's thoughts on this, third or fourth ranked hardest schedule in the country, in the entire country, not just the SEC. But our our chances of getting to a bowl game was 0.346 percent. Okay, or excuse me, a chance to start five and one was point three hundred and forty six. Our probability to win against Youngstown State was 95%, Alabama 17 and a half, Texas AM ten and a half. South Alabama 90%, South Carolina 25%, and LSU 18.5%. Just amazing. But you know, Colton, I want to start with you. I want raw reaction. What was you doing when this occurred? What was happening? And what was you immediately thinking? Kolton Myatt: I I was just pacing back and forth and in a standing up, wasn't sitting. Obviously me and Dylan got to watch the first half together. I got home, was you know, was listening, watching the game all the way home for the for the most of the third quarter, got home to watch the whole fourth quarter. The kicks happen at the end where we miss. My blood pressure shot through the roof. I was thinking, Man, this is this is gonna be one of those games that where we had it, we lost it, and then I was afraid what it would lead to after. Right? Like you are you're on the cusp of getting here and it ends like that, so then you go here. But then we we make it. We go to overtime and we s we score and you're sitting here thinking, you know, this is k Kentucky football don't never get this lucky, right? Like we don't we don't I'm in I'm I'm in I'm in the li I'm Dillon Geralds: Now are you in the living room at this point still pacing? Like where are you at? Are you outside? What Kolton Myatt: I'm in the living room. I'm pacing back and forth. There's a nice recliner there that I could be sitting in, but it's not happening. Mason: Yeah. Kolton Myatt: I'm just walking back and forth and I'm like, All right, it's got Karen Karen's went to bed. I've I've got I'm trying to think in my head. If they if they if they get this, can I scream? Can I scream? Can I run? Is it gonna get yelled at? We can't do it. Mason: huh. Dillon Geralds: Well, for those who don't know though, we're talking about somebody who's who's pregnant. your wife is pregnant, like you got can't wake her up. Kolton Myatt: Yes, yes, yes, yes, she is. Correct. So we had to we had to strategize in the head the reaction. But man, I was just in my my first mindset went to Okay, like it just Kentucky football, it doesn't happen for us, right? Like you just in our lifetime we just haven't got to see it many times. You're like, so like what's the odds that this happens twice? We got it like we got it last week, but I like, Nah, this probably won't happen. So I just on the toes and then the Cs parted. for Kenny Minchie. And you just knew at the moment Dillon Geralds: Mm, I like that. Kolton Myatt: it happened, that it just parted. He didn't have to take off. Like as soon as it happened, you're like, he's got it. Mason: Mm-hmm. Kolton Myatt: Like it was the perfect. I mean, it just happened perfectly. And I mean, I was just yelling without making noise. So I was sitting there just my Mason: Ha ha ha. Kolton Myatt: mouth wide open. I'm just like, yeah. Like I I can't I'm making noise. I go in to tell Karen, we just won the exact same way that we won last week. She's asleep, so she's like, huh, huh? Dillon Geralds: Elbow to the face. Kolton Myatt: Huh? And I'm like, it's okay. I'm gonna go celebrate back out here now. So But man, Mason: Ha ha ha. Dillon Geralds: Okay. Kolton Myatt: I mean, just unreal. I mean, I stayed up for another two or three hours, just I mean, just too excited, too excited Dillon Geralds: Same. Yeah. Mason: I couldn't sleep. Kolton Myatt: to go to sleep. I was I was loving. I went immediately to the SEC recap channel. I wanted to see what everyone Dillon Geralds: Mm-hmm. Kolton Myatt: was saying. Like, right, you wanna see all the highlights, you wanna see them say Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Kolton Myatt: Kentucky's here. Like hey, what about these Kentucky you you love it, right? You love hearing people talk about it so Dillon Geralds: Well, you I'm I'm right there in the simple vote and I'm gonna send it over to you, Mason, next after I share just 'cause me and Colton are kind of similar. I don't think yours is because I think people have got a Mason: No. Dillon Geralds: chance to see my reaction. I'm like you, Colton. I got two little ones. had we had to put in a bit like you had left. We watched the third quarter and then like Hayes had been up since five thirty. Trip was already crying, so I was like, Okay, how can we how can I strategize this to where I know I get to watch it? And Claire was like, Can you not just watch on your phone while you're putting Trip to sleep on? Yeah, let's try that. Let's try. So You I'm putting him to sleep, takes him a wall. He's I watch the two kicks that he misses, and I'm like, my goodness. And at that point, you're texting, like, we're not we're not gonna win this. I'm like, we are going to win this game. We are going to get them a stop. And at that point, Sam Levitt fumbles. We get it. I'm able to put him down and I get back out there. And I'm already ready to go crazy. And I'm just like, okay, I can't wake these boys up. But you best believe I'm going to get it all out. I mean, I was pumped. It was a it was amazing. Now Mason, you're a little bit different. your your kids are a little Mason: yeah. Dillon Geralds: older. I don't know if they were asleep. If you just didn't care. if that's what kind of father you are. I don't know. Share share your reaction. Mason: Hey, listen. Listen. Brittany knew before the two point conversion happened, like after we scored, I just told her I was like, just be prepared, 'cause the kids might get woken up. And luckily they didn't, but I went crazy, had one of my buddies over here. We went crazy, dogs barking. I I mean it was just electric and and you know, another thing, talking about like my kids. So Beckett's kind of finally getting to that age now where he kind of understands Dillon Geralds: That's awesome. Mason: and gets into it, you know. Y'all probably seen the video, he was doing the cast chant with me. This morning he wakes up and he rolls over. He came in our bed at some point in the middle of the night. He rolls over and he looks at me and he goes, Daddy, did Kentucky win? First thing he said this morning. And I was like, yes. I Dillon Geralds: that is awesome. Mason: was like, Yes. It's almost here. Like he's about to that point where he'll want to sit down and actually watch the games with me and get into it. And that was the first thing he asked this morning when he woke up. but yeah, I mean I was going crazy. Brittany knew. She knows whenever it comes down to these big games, Kentucky, Dillon Geralds: Mm-hmm. Mason: she she's accepted it. She was right in there with me going crazy. so yeah, I mean I I was electric. And like you said, Cole, like I just I couldn't go to sleep. Like I was so excited. It just felt surreal, right? Like this Dillon Geralds: I Mason: just it feels surreal. Like I d I kept Dillon Geralds: Does it? Mason: saying to myself, like, how is this happening? Like this is awesome. Dillon Geralds: Does it I mean, but I'm I'm still there. Like literally, I was watching a video because I I think that first off the UK media team is just amazing. I I mean the uncut videos, all the behind-the-scenes stuff. But if you all have not watched like the atmosphere, the unless you were there and you experienced yourself, but like you know, I was watching the light show that they did in between the third and fourth quarter. They had their phones and it was going left, right, left, right, and they were shaking their lights, and then it transitions and Into what we hadn't heard all season, or nobody has spoken a word of Grove Street, it's a potty, it's a potty, waka flacka. And I mean, I got coaches right now. Like, I mean, it was just, I'm like you all. I cannot believe what we are witnessing, what we are watching, and what we are able to experience right now. and and let's get right into it. It starts with Will Stein, it starts with the bus driver. Going into the coming out of the summer, he he set some very high expectations for this team, but more so for himself. Whether it be all these quotes everybody knows we've talked about, where he says, feed the studs. If you're scared, go to church. and then at SEC Media Day, the question was proposed to him like, What's gonna be the difference? What's gonna be how are you going to transition this team into a new culture? And he just says it, because of me. Well He's backed it up. So let's start there. Will Stein, I got some stuff for y'all. So, as I mentioned, Will Stein, this is the program's best by first year head coach since Alpha Broomage 1913, and they started six and one. Stein is the first coach in Kentucky history to start three and one in SEC play in his first season. He's the first UK head coach to beat two ranked opponents in his first season. Kentucky has scored at least 31 points in five of its first six games. It is the first time since 2007, and Stein is the first UK head coach to do it in his first season. First season. And I got the stats could go on and on and on. But guys, you want to talk about how you change a culture. You change a culture with hiring the right person. And once you do that, everything else takes care of itself. Mason, I keep going back to you because not that me and Colton wasn't very Excited and pumped for Will Stein. But I just remember when you came on here and we had introduced Will Stein and we had the chance of summer all. Everybody had questions and thoughts. Like did we did we hire the right guy? Should we have got Summer all? You were very adamant. Will Stein is the right person. I want you to to lean into that a little bit more after I guess what's the most impressive thing that that you have seen thus far with Will Stein being the head coach? Mason: I I mean I I think obviously, you know, one of the biggest things that we've seen is just the the success he's had this first season, right? We talked about he he kinda came in late, right? He didn't pull a Lane Kiffin, right? He stayed with his team through the college football playoff, he finished it out, then he came in, he built a roster. And just just the things he's been able to do with this team, and for me I think the most impressive thing is is who he is, not only as a person, but as a leader. Like the way he has got every single person on this team to buy in and every single person believes it. Right? Like you can see it in all these guys. That's why they're out there fighting. Four quarters. It doesn't matter if we get down seventeen nothing. They're fighting. And you can see that every one of these guys is fully bought in and believes in what Will Stein is saying. And I I think to me, like it just shows so much how much of a leader he is for these guys and how much they believe in him and they're willing to go to war for him. And he's willing to do the same for them, right? So I I just it it's awesome to see. I've been saying it for weeks now, you know, even before some of these big wins. Will Stein's special. Like he he's special. He's really, really special. I truly believe that. and I think he just continues to prove it. you know, another another big piece that I don't think we got to talk about last week, but the number one overall recruit canceled his visit to Ohio State and was back in Lexington, like that just says so much. Like w whenever I saw that, I was like, Are we talking Kentucky football right now? Like the number one recruit canceled his visit to Ohio State to come back on another visit to the University of Kentucky. Like we'll stop. He I love Will Stan. Stan Stadium. I said last night. Stan Stadium. Name it right now. Dillon Geralds: You know, feeding off that on a transition into you, Coton, Mason has also been very adamant about saying I keep saying adamant because he has. He's been very consistent about this. and he said it multiple times on our channel. Is he is he hit he said that, you know, when looking at at Will Stein, he's he's a better leader than he is a coach. And I think that that was the perfect example last night. Coton, you were talking about the kicks. Everybody who was watching Mr. Adam Zwalgi or however you say his last name Miss the 44 yarder, the 28 yarder at this point has a 33 yarder to tie the game up. You're like, my goodness, I can't watch. I don't know if you all actually watch. I couldn't. I I could not watch it. I was like, there's no way this game ends like this. But before he goes out, you see him go up to him, and yes, you've got to do this, but I I I don't know if it was just the way it was so natural, so calming, it wasn't forced. But he he looks at him and I think a lot of the reporters caught a they they zoomed in on on Will Stein. He says something along the lines, you got this, you're a baller, remember that. That's what I I I've seen. Like he he for sure said, You are a baller. Pretty much no, you do this every single day. And his postgate comments, that that's what he reiterated to him. He's like, God man, hey, you do this every day. This is nothing new to you. And I can say, I have never been there as a kicker, nor have you all. Unless you've been there in little league or I mean Colton, I don't know. You may have been a kicker. I d don't know. You've you've done everything. Yeah. But Kolton Myatt: Or or if there's any kickers listening, maybe you have. But Mason: Ha ha. Dillon Geralds: the pressure is real. Like you ever all eyes are on you. This is the only job you have. You better make it because if you don't, I don't know what would have happened to like not physically, but like this kid, you know, you know the stories. People are very ugly, and it's a game. But man, he just comes up to him and he he just puts his arms around him and he's like, dude, hey, you're a baller. You got this. So Coe, when seeing that, I know you were still very nervous, but just talk a little bit about that. Like what what does that gotta do for that that kid? What does that show not only for that kid, but for other recruits saying, man, this coach, he's he's got it. Like he he he's special. Like Mason said, he is special. He cares for me. Kolton Myatt: Yeah, he just gets it and he gets it from all angles. It doesn't matter if you're offense or defense or if you're you know, you're struggling or you're s succeeding. If you're if you're thriving out there, he's gonna hype you up so you even continue more. If you're struggling, he's gonna coach you up and he's gonna be there for you both ways. Right. And and he's he's so he's covering all bases and what that does is it gets an entire team to believe and and come together all as one, right? Yeah, I mean no it doesn't matter what happened. after the first two kicks. All that was gonna matter is if he could make that thirty-three yard or tie it or not. That's all that mattered at that point. Right. You can shoulda, coulda, woulda at the end of the day, yes, we focus on those big kicks. You could also talk about how the offense probably should have gotten the end zone and not even worried about the kicks. Right. And that probably would have been Stein's first and you know, after the after the press conference if he'd have missed that and they'd have like, what did you what about the kicker? He'd have probably said we should have gotten the end zone. Right. Because that's the accountability you take. And and that's what he's got, man. And when when you're a player and you see your own coach take that accountability and yet still believe in you, at that moment he he had I have no doubt that he knew that he was like, Man, like even though like I've done miss these kicks, like he might take it upon himself, but like Stein's gonna take it on him. Like he's like at this point he's not even he don't care that he's missed it. No. Yeah. Dillon Geralds: That kid will never forget that. He won't forget the kick, but he will also never forget what Will Stein done Mason: What? Dillon Geralds: there. Mason: Another thing, like, what player does not want to come play for this type of coach? You know, like seeing that and seeing seeing these types of quotes and these comments and the type of things that he's saying to these players and the belief that he has in them, like it just shows that. Number one recruit. You know, he's down on the field, he rushed the field with him afterwards, you know? Dillon Geralds: That's why I was about to say he roached the field with him. Mason: And he's down there and somebody said, Sign the paperwork you know, I heard somebody scream, sign the paperwork Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Mason: at him and I'm pretty sure he threw up an L's down while he was down there. Like, I mean what what player would not want to play for Will Stein right now? And that's what I love Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Mason: about it. Like he's a player's first coach, but he also he gets it. No moments too big for him. He just wants what's best for these players. And at any point that's what he's trying to do is build these players up and make sure they can succeed. And I I love it. Dillon Geralds: Absolutely. you know, for the ones who are listening on the podcast, right now it could be Monday, Tuesday, we're actually live, so we are able to see some chat feeds. So I do want to say one of our the the ones listening here says, How do we feel about the basketball exhibition Friday? Usually I'm so fired up about the basketball season starting due to being a terrible at football. You hey, listen. I I don't think we're that we're gonna do two episodes. We'll get into some basketball stuff when we release our next episode, which will be either Thursday or Friday. but we can talk a little bit about, you know, just like the feeling we have. I don't think look let's focus on football just because I I'm still riding this high. Like look, look, let's continue to enjoy this moment. but you know, you you he bringing up basketball, I got to thinking today. I'm sitting here, I'm like, I can't tell you the last time. I don't know if I have ever. watched a football game and after the football game not had thoughts about basketball or not been thinking throughout the week like man I can't wait for basketball season like it that like fellas like I I could I don't want to say I could care less because I I do care but in the moment i i it's an afterthought right now. I am so locked in to this Kentucky football team and this new era. that that Will Stein and this new culture that he has created, I don't think that it even allows you to even think that way. I mean, Mason, you've said it too, that that you you're you're totally locked in. You didn't think anything we I mean, th and and why should Mason: I st I still haven't. Dillon Geralds: we? Mason: I still haven't. Like I know they have an exhibition Friday and I mean I'll I'll look into it, you know, and and I'll be excited for it and I'm gonna watch it, but like at this point, like I'm just so excited about football and still just like I it it completely slipped my mind, honestly, until he had said that there that we even played had an exhibition on Friday. Like I forgot all about it. And I don't know that that's ever, ever happened in my lifetime before. Dillon Geralds: I don't think it had. You know, Colton, so for the ones you heard Coton say, Colton and I will actually we did watch I had him and another friend over. we we was watching the football game. I have some connection issues, it says, so if I do jump out, y'all just keep going, I'll hop back in. But we was watching the game and as Coton was about to leave, I I looked at Coton and and we got to talking. I was like, Colton man, like I'm still you know, I I'm a little worried because when you talk about we're up four at halftime. But we've had all the explosive plays. You know, we we we we had the the CJ Baxter run that was the 77-yard run. We then had the punt return. we we had that we we also went for it on fourth down, got it going into the half. They did have a little trickery play. I had forgotten about that, Colton. But all the momentum, all the explosive plays that you have to have in this type of game was. on our side. We had got all the calls. Everything was going our way. But yet there was still just like, okay, we have played so well, but we're only up four. That that that was something that was still worrying me and we got to that slow start coming into the the the second half. But there there's a very interesting stat I I wanted to to tell you, Colton, then I'm gonna let you talk a little bit if I can find it here. It was about what we've allowed. So coming in you know, I can't find it right now. So Colton, I just want to hear from you. I'll be looking it up and I I may interrupt you here in a minute. But what was the the feeling, the vibes like for you though, as you was Looking at okay, second half, we're only up four points. What was the vibes like for you? Kolton Myatt: I just thought there was a it was like a chess match going on, right? I I thought as much as I can't really stand Lane Kiffin, as much as there's drama around Lane Kiffin, I thought what you saw in the first half was two really good coaches going at it. Right. N neither one was giving. They were both we were it was like if we score then they score and they s like both were game planning, they were creating things for their for their teams and you're right, yes, we had all these things go on. But Being an underdog, if you're gonna pull an upset, those things have to happen. Right? You you rarely see like dominance from an underdog happen. Yeah, that's just not like without something major happening. You just you don't see it much. You saw it a little bit in the third quarter against Texas A and where we just kinda dominated the game, but you don't really see that. But then what What also happened is that same kicker that missed a forty-four and a twenty-eight yarder, Will Stein sent him out there for what, a fifty-two yarder or fifty-four yarder or something like that that dinked in off Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Kolton Myatt: the go post. Right? Something has to happen. I don't know if anyone out there is golfing, but you can talk about some of these scramble teams that, you know, come in at like twenty under and you're like, the odds they didn't go out there and throw it to two foot every time. There was someone run in a thirty five foot bomb putt, or they they chipped it in Or they hold out from somewhere. And you have to have it to achieve greatness. And and that's what was going our way. And the stars aligned. And that's but that's what you plan for, right? That's why you try to create the atmosphere you did. You get the fans involved because the fans always might create some type of one of those plays. And and the player's hype and adrenaline might create one of those plays. And you you never know what's gonna happen, but you have to have those type of things to pull up sets. 'Cause there there's a reason why LSU was ranked number ten and they're they're expected to win. Dillon Geralds: Mm-hmm. Kolton Myatt: Because when you look at their roster from top to bottom, there's five stars and there's fifty million dollars being paid to that entire roster because these are stud guys from all across. I mean, they're on paper, they're expected to beat you. So how how can you actually win the game? You have to have those type of things happen, and they did. Dillon Geralds: Here's what I was going to tell you. UK's defense has not allowed a point on an opponent's first possession of the second half this season. Ty Bryant's interception on LSU's first third quarter offensive play continued that trend. guys, you know, when you look at this game, Colton, you just said it right there. You're looking at, you know, you when you're putting player to player star power versus star power. Yeah, they they should have won this game. that's why they were ranked. You know, we we we didn't completely stop them. When you're looking at LSU, they entered the game averaging forty three point six points and five hundred and forty-seven yards per game, but we did hold them to thirty-four points and only four hundred and ten yards. Okay. But also when looking at it's very interesting, you look at total offense, they still had four hundred and ten yards, they still had ninety-four yards of rushing, they had three hundred and sixteen yards of passing. The biggest thing that that that we continue to do is we keep turning teams over. I think that moves improves us to plus seven margin on on the turnover ratio this season. Mason again I'll say it again we have a good defense. I I love the bend don't break. We may bend but we do not Mason: That's Dillon Geralds: break. Like that the the the crucial moments of stopping a team for momentum I I I look for example the very first drive they were moving the ball pretty quick But we held him to a field goal. That's huge. That is so big in that Mason: I said that's a win. Dillon Geralds: type of game. Yeah, that's an absolute- I looked at Colton. I said, I'll take it. I will absolutely take that. Mason, do you think Lane Kiffen got out Lane Kifton in in this game? When looking at fourth and one, and I know we're kind of everywhere, but that's kind of the excitement we have right now. We're not going to do this chronicr chronological in order, but I think that that's kind of a a testament to how excited we are. But On fourth and one, I I read a a tweet or heard somebody that that said this in a video today and I was like, huh, I never thought about that. But they said, as a fan, when you are watching or as a coach, when the opposing coach does exactly what you want them to do, you know it was the wrong choice. And I got to thinking about that and I was like, 'cause I mean like that's exactly what we wanted him to do. I'm sure we'll like pun it, pun it, punt it, Kiffin. You you Like we wasn't sitting there saying, we want you to go for it, we want you to go for it, and we won't want to stop you. No, I did not. But that is so unlike Lane Kiffin. So what like do you think the moment was was did he just get in his head? Do you think that he was he had seen that our kicker had missed back-to-back field goals and that if we did get it down the field, that there's not a chance he's gonna make it? Like, what happened? I mean, if I'm an LSU fan right now, Mason, I am traumatized. I'm like, we brought this guy in because He's known for being gutsy. He's known for that. What happened? Mason: Yeah, I I don't know, that's such a tough call in that moment, in that situation, you know, with with what was going on and where the game was at. And I I mean had we already stopped him on fourth down twice? I know once for sure, but was it twice? Dillon Geralds: I know once Kolton Myatt: May have been twice. Mason: I th that's what I I couldn't remember if it was twice. I know we stopped him once though. Kolton Myatt: And I mean, and we had had some success against Texas State and and South Carolina on fourth down. Like if you look Mason: Yeah. Kolton Myatt: the last, you know, two SEC games, we had stopped on fourth down quite a bit this year. Mason: Yeah. And I I mean, what I what I kept saying, Dylan, like the first half, kinda going back to our bend but don't break, right? Like I've been saying that, and that's what this defense does, and I I kept repeating that to myself throughout the whole game. I was just like, Ben but don't break and it felt like the only time they could get a big play or a big score is off some trick play, right? Like they had a couple of big trick plays that helped them score touchdowns wide open, you know. great throw from the wide receiver too. but I I think in that situation, Dylan, I just I I don't think you can go for it, even if you're Lane Kiffin, because you're almost already in field goal range, right? So like it's almost giving them a guaranteed shot at a field goal. Right? So I feel like you just have to and and we really hadn't been great in the second half offensively, you know. We had three points total Kolton Myatt: Yeah, the second half the second half we had not been great offensively. Mason: up to that point, you know. So I think in that point you just have to punt it and say, Okay, we either get a stop Or don't let in the end zone and we still have a chance to win this, right? so I I think it was the right decision, but it Dillon Geralds: Think though no no, but I think what I I guess I'm coming from it the perspective of not that it was the wrong obviously now hindsight twenty twenty, you're looking at like, yeah, that was definitely the wrong decision, you should have gone for it. I I think most coaches, yeah, would have, but you're talking about a coach who has always done those sorts of things. That that's that's my point. Like we're not talking about a Mark Stoops conservative coach who who does things the by the textbook, right? We're talking about Lane Kiffin. That is my point. Colton, I you I saw you shaking your head. Give me give me some thoughts on what you're hearing and what you're thinking. Cause I that's my point, is it's Lane Kiffin. Like, this is not somebody who does this type of stuff. I get why. I get it. We hadn't moved the ball. We our kickers been like I get that. But this is Lane Kiffin. Kolton Myatt: No, I I agree. Like my my thought was that there is no way he's not not going for that because the as much str Dillon Geralds: Game's over. Kolton Myatt: as much drama as Lane Kiffin brings with him, the the reason that he continues to get these high profile jobs and have success where he's at is because he's got a great football mind. Like he's he he's got these type of things to where like on one yard, he should have had something in he should have had f twenty different plays in his back pocket that he knows Mason: I kept saying they're gonna they're gonna pull out some trick play again and they're gonna get it. Kolton Myatt: Yeah, one hundred percent. Like he Dillon Geralds: I did too. Kolton Myatt: he was gonna dial Dillon Geralds: I thought that. Kolton Myatt: something up from one yard that he could he knew that he could. And and that's what I do. I do think that the lack of success on offense that we had in the second half and given that where they were at, like I think his thought was we didn't have any timeouts left. The odds are we maybe we were getting field goal range and we just missed two chip shots. And so I think his whole thought was like, I don't think we're gonna give up a touchdown if we did this. So I like our chances. Where they go for it and miss it, we have a minute fifty, minute forty left to go forty five yards, forty yards, and get a touchdown. And I don't think he wanted that to happen. Because of Mason: And then our kicker has to make it. Kolton Myatt: who he is and what I think he's able to draw up, but he didn't. Dillon Geralds: Well then let me ask you all this then. Let me ask you this then. And for those for those who are who are tuned in, let me see your answers here. Let's flip it. Let's flip the narrative. Let's say that we are in that same position as we, as in Will Stein. Do you think Will Stein goes for it? Do you think Will Stein goes for it? You don't. Mason: No. Nope. Dillon Geralds: After seeing all I'm just I mean, I'm not Kolton Myatt: I dun I don't know. I really don't because I sit there and think to myself there he went for it a few times there on, you know, Alabama and it backfired and then there's been times when he did go for it where like there was a field goal earlier in the game that I thought he Dillon Geralds: Well that's what I was gonna lead to. Kolton Myatt: you know that he he didn't kick it, right? Or did he kick it. I can't rem yeah, he didn't kick a field goal earlier and we didn't get you know, but there's been times when we did and then last week against South Carolina, I messaged you all and I was like I'd have went for it. And you all you all were like, I I like the call to go for the field go. So he's been everywhere on that on the fourth down, so I I don't know exactly what he would have called. It would have been I mean, if our defense would have been balling, yeah. But I don't know. Dillon Geralds: Yeah, that was a little questionable. Mason: No. Dillon Geralds: I I agree, Colton. I think that Will Stein it kinda has been everywhere. But I I guess I was a little surprised that he did kick the field goal instead of going for it, but I like the call, 'cause Kolton Myatt: No. Dillon Geralds: then you go from a four point game to a seven point game. You you you go up then. 'cause we we had it. Well, you're looking at me weird. Kolton Myatt: Do we do do we think that every single time now we're thinking we're gonna go for two if we're in overtime? Like do we Dillon Geralds: Absolutely. Mason: if we get the ball second, absolutely. Absolutely. Kolton Myatt: do we think do we think that's it? What what if we what if we get it first? Dillon Geralds: I that actually the okay I say what you're saying. That's a good that that's a very Mason: Somebody brought that up. Somebody brought that up. Kolton Myatt: Like what if we get it first? Do we think that we're going do we think that we're gonna do that? Because I you Mason: No. Kolton Myatt: know, he's probably thinking, I don't wanna give them a chance to go for two if we if we get it. 'Cause that's probably his mindset is like, hey, I wanna score here and go for two because I don't want them to score and go for two and beat us. So I want us to I want us to control I want Dillon Geralds: Well you know they're gonna go for two. I mean everybody will go for two pretty much now. Kolton Myatt: us to control the destiny here. So we might as well go for two and get up eight and then they're gonna have to death. I Mason: Try not to let him in the end zone. Kolton Myatt: I mean Dillon Geralds: Yeah. It's that's a good point. Kolton Myatt: But yeah I don't. Mason: People yeah. People were saying that about Lane Kiffin. They should he have just went for two, you know, knowing Stein and knowing that he's probably gonna go for two anyways, like but then they were like, you know, then they score and all you gotta do is hit an extra point, so but it'd be inter I hope y I hope it that never comes to that scenario the rest of season. I don't want any more overtime games. Dillon Geralds: I I know. I was like whenever I was sitting there Well, Kolton Myatt: No. Dillon Geralds: and I was sitting there though at the same time I was like, Okay, please get this. Please we need this. We need the the coin to flip in our direction. Come on, come on, football guys, like please let us get this. all right, let's get into a little bit of of stat lines. Let's let's start with with with the man himself, Mr. Kenny Minchie. Kenny Minchie went twenty three for thirty six for two hundred and forty six passing yards, eighteen rushing yards. On six non-sack carries. He had one rushing touchdown. CJ Baxter, 19 carries, 123 yards for two touchdowns. Brock Kaufman had that 55 yard punt return. Kenny Darby, four catches, seventy-nine yards. Ty Bryant had the interception returned. Zuagi ha had the clint the clutch at the end, 33 yard field go after missing the other two. tight end, seven catches for twenty-nine yards. If y'all to pick an MVP, who's your MVP of this game? I'll lead it off. I think for me, I I'm got I'm kind of going to go a little bit of the opposite direction. I know everybody I'm gonna let one of y'all talk more about kin Mr. Mitch Kenny Minchie, but I'm gonna go Kenny Darby. I I think that pressure is a privilege. And I think that yes, he only had four catches, but the two of the catches that he had on those third down conversions Where you could always say that, well this play, you couldn't have done this without this play, but the way that he inserted his game or inserted himself into the game at the very end to show like, hey, LSU that we're talking about the same guy who reports had said that they looked at his that Lane Kiffin himself looked at Kenny Darby film and said, No, I don't want this guy. 'Cause he was going to go to LSU. Thank you, Lane Kiffin. But I'm going Kenny Darby. The 22-yard catch and overtime, the the one in in regular regulation, when we're moving the ball down the field to put us in a spot to kick a field goal. I just think that Kenny Darby is such a talent. He finds ways to make big time plays. And and and that's what your your your your studs do. Feed the studs, that's what they do. They find a way whenever it's not their night, whenever the lights get big, whenever everybody is watching, it is. We have got to have somebody to go to make a play. I'm gonna give it to Kenny Darby. I just just to throw it out left field. I didn't want to everybody select the the same person. Coach, who's the MVP of this game? Kolton Myatt: The offensive line. Dillon Geralds: Mm. Kolton Myatt: they so I don't know if you saw it, but I think if I'm right, LSU was leading the country in sacks per game. coming into this game and they we only they only allowed one sack the entire game. I think they were averaging like f yeah, Mason: Only only three tackles for loss. Kolton Myatt: they were only averaging five or I think they were averaging five or six sacks a game, something like that, and we only allowed one. They were also only avi allowing fifty yards rushing. per game. I know CJ Baxter alone had almost 120. Yeah, broke it first Mason: Broke that the first play of game. Kolton Myatt: play of the game, but he had a hundred. So I mean, we obviously broke that. So and then just the the maintain the drives, you know, the thing about when you go into those two minute drills at the end, your offensive line has to be on on, you know, point as well as all those receivers and the quarterback and everything. Like the offensive line has to understand the plays. They have to be in good shape. To be able to run, I we're talking about big guys, right? They're running down the field and tired and they've been going to battle in the trenches the whole game, yet they're still in good enough shape and they still have a battle ab about that they don't allow a sack there. That they 'cause, you know, we didn't have any timeouts, so you can't allow a sack. You can't allow pressure. These guys are holding the line to allow us to be able to get these these passes off, to move downfield, to get into range, to be able to tie tie the game. So, man, yeah, the big blue wall. at the end of the day continues to show up. So that's by far my V P. Dillon Geralds: Mason you better say the one guy we've not mentioned, who's your MVP? Mason: Yeah, I mean I I I was gonna say big blue wall, but I mean obviously you gotta Kenny Minchy. I mean I I just sit back and think. Like he's He may not be the most talented quarterback in the country, but he is such a game manager, man. Like he takes care of the football. He does his job. He doesn't try to get too cute. He doesn't try to get too flashy. He makes the right reads. And I I it's the it's the perfect type of quarterback you need in a system like this, right? Like you don't Dillon Geralds: Mm-hmm. Mason: need no nobody to go out there and be too flashy. Like Sam Levitz trying to do all this stuff, you know, and like winking at the camera. Like, Dillon Geralds: Do your job. Mason: we don't need all that. We don't need all that. You could have been here, Sam. We went and got Kenny Minchie. We like our guy. We like our guy better than you. All right. And I mean I I just got to thinking too, like Like after the game. Like I don't I honestly don't think it's far fetched. Like, he comes back next year. He could be a top five pick in the NFL draft if he comes back and does this again next year, the way he's taking care of the football. Because you think about it, like, you don't have to do anything special. Look at Tom Brady. Like he just went out there, he managed the game. Yeah. Yeah. Kolton Myatt: Well, and look at I mean look at Arch, right? I mean the Arch gets a lot of the hype, but I mean the the thing about Arch Manning that is actually pretty impressive about him is his game managing. Like Mason: Yeah. Kolton Myatt: for the most part, like he's kind of a picks and point, but it's not like his arm is super impressive. It's not like he's dialing up just in unseen passes you've never seen before. But so I mean, yeah, why not? Mason: And I wanna say one more I wanna say one more thing too, Dylan, that's really stood out to me over these last two games that I don't know if y'all realize. This game, you know how many penalties we had? Two. You know, I'm pretty sure I'm Dillon Geralds: one or yep. Kolton Myatt: Discipline, man. Mason: pretty sure we only had four against South Carolina. Six total penalties and two huge games, an SEC road game, and one Dillon Geralds: Huge. Mason: of the biggest home home games we've had in whatever maybe. And we we have had six penalties in the last two games. Like that that just I love it. Right? 'Cause in the past, I mean, we'd have had fifteen probably. And that's huge. Like you're not shooting yourself in the foot. You're putting yourselves in the right position to win ball games. And it just shows how Wins Will Stein has his team body in, how they're disciplined, and I I love it. Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Well that's kinda what I was headed to next. I gonna give credit where credit is due. Let's talk about the the atmosphere itself. Talking it speaking of penalties, we had two penalties for twenty yards to their seven for fifty yards. I mean, a lot of that is credit to the atmosphere itself. The the Big Blue Nation showed up and showed out, soaring the field. I that was a five hundred thousand dollar fine and it's not my money. So yeah, I mean that was Mason: I said I seen something that said boosters have already paid that. Boosters have already got that paid off. Dillon Geralds: Huh. and they will but Kolton Myatt: Yeah. Dillon Geralds: when you're looking and and just watching and seeing everything on X, on Instagram, on TikTok, whatever social media platform it is, it is it's just so fun. Like it is I I can't even put it into words how exciting it is to be a part of this right now and knowing that really this is just the beginning. Like This is just the beginning. you're talking about guys, you and this is just more credit to Will Stein. This isn't a a roster that Will Stein has had two or three years with. This is with a ton of transfers, bringing in the turnover from a complete different culture, complete different style scheming, and Mark Stoops. Like these are all new players for this first year head coach Will Stein. And and the way that these players have bought in, like you said, Mason, not only the players, but man, B Blue Nation. Like I I I cannot exp just put it into words of of how exciting it has been for us to be a part of this. And I mean it's just awesome. I I it truly is amazing. and I I just I hope basketball gets into that too. I hope that we buy in and that we're seeing some of this stuff because Mark Pope, you better be ready, because this guy has set the bar high. but Mason, you know, look looking at just I mean, do you think this is the beginning? Do you do you think that it it it's only gonna get better from here? Mason: Absolutely. I mean, listen, right now we're kind of at a high, right? 'Cause we're at a low. We've kind of reached a high. So I mean it's gonna there's gonna be ups and downs, right? Like it's not gonna last it's not gonna be like this forever. Like we're gonna have losses, you know, these types of games where we lose and we're gonna have some seasons that are going as good as it is right now. And who knows? I mean, we could end up losing next week. You know, we could lose two, three in a row. It you just don't know. But I mean, right now, like you said, Dylan, we just we we haven't felt this with Kentucky football, right? So everybody's at such a Dillon Geralds: Mm-hmm. Mason: high. I I do think it's just the beginning for what this program can be. Right. But we're still gonna have our roller coaster of ups and downs. but I I I've said it over and over and over. I mean Will Stein, I I think he's the man. I'm so happy we have him. I think he's got this program in the right direction and I think it's only going to continue to trend that way over the next few years. Dillon Geralds: But you know, Colton, I think that you know, that that's totally different though, also, because i I'm not saying this. If we do w lose next week to Oklahoma at Oklahoma, I don't think you're losing anybody. I think everybody is still completely bought in. And you know, even if we hadn't won this game, I still think that everybody is still bought in. It it's it's completely different. It it truly is. Colton, let's talk about also though. I I was I pulled this up. We've not even talked about this. We are now ranked in the AP Pole 15. We are the 15th ranked team in the country after winning on the road in the SEC, dropping out of the AP poll top 25. And now we go from unranked to 15th. And on top of that, on top of that, I don't know if you all saw this, but on three had tweeted this today on the college football playoff bracketology thing. They have got the University of Kentucky at 10 in the college football playoff. I mean, I got good, I got goosebumps. Like, what in the world? Now listen, Mason: Real life. Dillon Geralds: I know, I know that we are only halfway through the season. I get it, I I got you. But for us to even say those words together, Kentucky football, college football playoff, Colton, would you have ever imagined that happening in 10 years? Kolton Myatt: I'm I mean look, I yeah. Dillon Geralds: without them expanding it to twenty fourteen as of right now. Kolton Myatt: I mean, I mean, I don't I think you maybe a Cinderella type season is the best you you look at, right? 'Cause I mean we we look back at that Josh Allen we'll let you know, that year when we finished nine and three and you're kinda like if that if it had been at twelve teams at that time, we would have been pretty close to being able to get in with that team. And so you're kinda thinking, Okay, we've gotta have one more of those type of seasons, can we get there? But the biggest thing is is when you look at it, I mean, the it's you've gotta if you'd have told me that after after six games looking at our schedule, I mean that's insane. Right? I mean you you look at you at the beginning of before we started now granted, Oklahoma obviously just beat the number one team in the country, but the before that game they had kind of fallen off and people had kind of wrote off already. Going into the season, if you looked at the predictions for the college football playoff, You had LSU was like number twelve. You had Texas A and in there and a lot of people had Oklahoma. We've already played three teams or that we're about to play a third team anyhow in Oklahoma that they looked at and said, Hey, these we think these and and Alabama. So we have played like the Oklahoma, our fourth matchup in the first seven games that was preseason, all making the college Mason: These teams were all capable of making the college football player. Kolton Myatt: football playoff. And you've won two of the three so Dillon Geralds: Mm-hmm. Kolton Myatt: far and got a chance to win. Now, now look, it's gonna be tough. We saw remember, so, you know, not to be the Debbie Downer or not to sit there and think this is gonna happen. I don't think it will, but Dillon Geralds: Don't you bring me down. Don't you bring me down. Kolton Myatt: I'm not bringing down. I'm just saying the Dillon Geralds: No. Kolton Myatt: real realistically, we have we have a tough six game schedule Dillon Geralds: We do. Kolton Myatt: left. I mean we we still do. Like every one of those teams are very good. They they I mean we could it's gonna be a battle in every one of those games. And you're sitting there like when we beat LSU in O seven, I think we beat them when they were number one, we were like fifteen. We won that game to go to six and and we we bumped up to number eight in the AP Po, I believe. And I think we lost five of our last six. Right? And that just goes to tell you how tough it is to win each each week. It's not and right now we're I think a six and a half point underdog going into Oklahoma next week. Six and a half point underdog going into Oklahoma next week. Dillon Geralds: Let keep sleeping. Mason: Kee yeah. Keep us as dogs. Kolton Myatt: Which is what you yeah, you're right. You wanna keep continuing to play the underdog role. But it's gonna be a tough finish. I I think there is a road to the playoff. Mason: Absolutely. Kolton Myatt: I don't know where we want to get into it, whether it's on this episode or or into you know, another one this week. But in my mind I played out different scenarios all day. I looked at different different Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Kolton Myatt: teams schedules, who they have left, who they've gotta get to, what's the best case scenario, what scenario gets us into the college football playoff. Man, it's it's a real thing, guys. It's it's Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Kolton Myatt: a legit thing. Dillon Geralds: I think we can get into that maybe on our next episode, but there are two things I want us to cover too. okay, so I think it's it it it is hilarious. It it I I've been seeing, I don't know if you all been seeing some of our social stuff and it's also people just being haters, talking about who who have you who is Kentucky beat? Who is Kentucky beat? You you beat a a South Carolina team with a who who their coach, like they're struggling, they're desperate. You you beat a terrible Texas AM team. Then you beat an LSU at home. and and I'm sitting there I'm like, are you kidding me? Like I cannot stand. Don't discredit the University of Kentucky for winning. And let's just say this a little bit further. I want to hear y'all's thoughts on this. Being in the SEC. Like the SEC, it does. It just means more. That South Carolina team that we went in at their one of the toughest places to play. Who was desperate just went and peeped and beat the brakes off a Florida team. That same Florida team is also the same Florida team that put it to O miss, which is the same team that beat LSU that everybody's like, that's a really good. What my point here is is that you can just keep running in circles. The SEC, it is hard to win. It is difficult to win, especially on the road, but even at home. So get outta here. Get outta here with that. I I I I I don't wanna come on Mason, turn turn me up one time. Mason: Well let me ask you this. Tennessee's ranked one spot ab Tenn Tennessee's ranked one spot above us and they had the same number of losses, right? They lost to Texas at home. We lost to Bama at home. Who had they beat? They haven't played anybody besides Texas. Like yeah, they beat a crappy Auburn team barely, and then they struggled against Arkansas this past weekend and they're still ranked fourteen in the country. Like they haven't beat anybody. I I don't know. I don't Dillon Geralds: I I I don't understand it. Mason: people can say what they want. People can say what they want, but we keep beating people and then they want to say afterwards, that's Dillon Geralds: Cone it, cone it. Mason: not a good win, they're not good. Dillon Geralds: I know. You y it it just is what it is. Coton is Kentucky are we the are we the best story in college football right now? I think I heard there's another UCLA, undefeated, but Kolton Myatt: Yeah, yeah, Mason: You said like Kolton Myatt: yeah, that's in UCLA. So I think you gotta give UCLA some credit. I Mason: I'm defeated. Kolton Myatt: I I do think that it's I mean I don't know how you're not because of the conference we're in, right? I think that that's the biggest thing is that you see the jump that Kentucky's made. I think UCLA has just kind of been I mean, they've not been relevant as a football program in a while. Like they've not been a while. So, like, it wasn't that you know, Kentucky football had a pretty good high there four or five years ago. I mean, we had a good stretch there. Dillon Geralds: Huh. I think it's so ironic. You just said UCLA Kolton Myatt: What? Dillon Geralds: and Kentucky, I didn't even put this together, the two most historical basketball programs and we are the biggest stories in college football. Kolton Myatt: yeah. Dillon Geralds: How about that for Mason: Yeah. Dillon Geralds: you? Kolton Myatt: Yeah, exac I mean, but that's the case. You know, we've never been claimed to be a football school, but maybe we are. I'm just saying. I mean, maybe it's starting to be. Dillon Geralds: Pff Mason: Maybe it's time. Kolton Myatt: But yeah, absolutely. It's gotta be one of the best stories in college football. Cause here's the thing. If you look at our team We're we don't have a lot of great great ta like great players. We have what Will Stein is doing is getting the best out of a lot of really tough guys. Right? I mean we we've got a really good offensive line. We know that. But outside of that, on paper, talent wise, Kenny Minchie probably isn't a top ten or fifteen quarterback in the country. But he's but Will Stein's making him play like one, the way he's managing the game. Kenny Darby Dillon Geralds: Good point. Kolton Myatt: It's just a freshman. Kenny Darby's just a freshman, but he's having to play like a junior or senior in a lot of moments. Right? He's getting the maximum I mean air wide receiver cord. Shout out to them, by the way. They continue to show up and make plays, even though the Dillon Geralds: Who is the one guy was it f Ferguson? Mason: Ferguson. Yeah, the the first ball he caught I was like, whoa. Kolton Myatt: they're not big name. Right, randomly. Right. Ex He had had one catch for six Dillon Geralds: Who is this? Kolton Myatt: yards before before that catch. One catch for six yards. Mason: Yeah. He's a sophomore. Dillon Geralds: Cotton done his research. Kolton Myatt: And he had and then he had 19 yards in this game. Like he had one one catch six yards for the entire six. Like it's Mason: Every one catch on the sideline was incredible. Kolton Myatt: but that's what I'm saying. And that so shout out to them. They're he's getting Will Stein is getting the most out of these guys. And that's that's what you see coaching. That's where you see coaching at. And they're going out there not scared of anyone, no matter what talent, no matter what stars are beside their name, they're not scared of anyone. And when you play not scared if you when you play to win, if you heard him in his interview, he said, You have to play to win. I don't know what else to tell you. When you play to win, you're going you're going to make a statement one way or the other. And that's the what we're doing right now. And it's going in the right way. And so Dillon Geralds: I I you know, I when you're saying that, I'm sitting here thinking about this, and I have always said this, w with our s on my our senior year, where we had such a a great run and our our I mean just an elite season, people asked me before, like what made you all so good? And this is with every team. I'm not just making this about our team, but this is with any great good team in any sport. And it goes back to what you just said, Colton. What makes these teams so great is everybody plays their role. Everybody, they know their assignment. And the reason why you have so much success is because everybody is bought in. Like there's nobody trying to do anything that they know they shouldn't do. Like, do your job. And that's especially in football. I know Billy Joe has has been on here multiple times. It's the ultimate team game. Do your assignment. Because there are 10 other guys who are counting on you to do your assignment. and I just I I think that that's that that's a great point. and yeah, I mean Austin's on here for BB Unfiltered saying, you know, like we have they play clean. I mean and Mason, we talked about that earlier before. you that is so impress I guess I didn't realize that 'cause I I I didn't realize that we had only had that that limited amount of turnovers within the amount of games that we've played. That that that's bizarre to me. Let's let's talk a little bit though, you know, how awesome was yesterday for college football. You have Oklahoma, who beats number one Texas, that comes down to a last second field goal. You have Kentucky, obviously, Go Cats, who who beat LSU and Lane Kiffin. Then you have Georgia, number two ranked against number six Alabama, comes down to a a three-point loss there for for Alabama. You have Illinois in overtime. a one point overtime thriller 3837, number 21 UCLA beats Oregon, number seven over last Nebraska. Only I mean, like you could just go on and on. College football is elite right now. And it I was watching I turned on the NFL tonight, guys, and I was sitting there watching, and I was like, my goodness, like I what am I doing? I I I am not bought in the NFL whatsoever right now, and I don't know if it's because I'm still riding this high. I don't know if it's because we're good. I I I don't know what it is. Mason, you're sitting there laughing like I your Packers I mean they played today. They I mean I can't say much about me and Coton's Titans. it is what it is. But like was you even like locked Mason: I'm Dillon Geralds: in? Like wha like what what I mean Mason: Listen, I I wasn't at the beginning of the game. I mean I had it on and I wasn't and then we started playing really well. Like they they looked really good today. We were slinging it all over the Bears. I seen that was highest amount of passing yards a Green Bay quarterback has had against the Bears. so I mean, Packers look good today. but no, I mean I'm still riding this high. I mean, like it's It's incredible. last night was awesome. We've talked about it. Couldn't go to sleep. I I'm gonna be talking about it all week. I'm gonna be thinking about it all week. I can't wait for next Saturday. Like I'm I'm so ready for football. Like I know basketball has an exhibition, but I'm ready for next Saturday. Like I'm pumped. Dillon Geralds: Well, let's let's let's spend there then the last ten, fifteen minutes of this coating. basketball, man, like what what are your thoughts on it right now as far as I did hear something before I did hear something very that was cool that the the basketball team was on the sidelines with the football team dabbing them up and pumped and like the connection was there. I thought that was really cool to hear, but We we talked a little bit about it, but wha what does this what does this success mean for Mark Pope? Like i i is it a good distraction? Is it gonna take away from the basketball program you think at all? Or is it at the end of the day, this is still Kentucky basketball we're talking about? Kolton Myatt: Yeah, I mean, here's the thing, I think the best way to do it is to ride the high into basketball, right? So I mean, there's nothing better than if your basketball and your football team are both being elite right now. I mean you get I mean what's what's awesome is that you know that football's coming on Saturdays, but if you get basketball throughout the week and you get to cheer for Kentucky basketball during the week and we can win a few big games early 'cause we're gonna play some big games early too, and our football high still riding to the very end to where maybe we're trying to fight for a playoff spot. I mean you talk about the the vibes around Big Blue Nation. Maybe it's what we really needed, right? I feel like Big Blue Nation has been down in the last few years. Caliperry left, Stoops stoops Dillon Geralds: talk. Preach. Preach. Kolton Myatt: Stoops was Stoops was past his time. You know, we had some down years in football. We hadn't we haven't had the success in basketball like we expect to have. You You've had some down year, you've had some controversy. And right now, I think you've the football team has brought the fan base together. I think the basketball team has had a little pressure at the moment taken off of them because the spotlight's not on them at the moment. I Mark Pope has always done the right things as far as the like you said, the players on the sidelines, all that stuff with the f supporting. He's done all those things, you know, great since he's been there. He does have a love for the university. He makes sure that His players have a love for the university, show support for these other teams. You know, kudos to him for always doing that. But the spotlights off the basketball team for a little bit at the moment. But man, I so I I think if you're the basketball like yes, the pressure is gonna be on Mark Pope. When the season ends, all eyes are gonna turn to basketball. That's what it's gonna do. Especially if we have a great season and you see what Will Stein's been able to do in year one. Eyes are gonna turn to you. And you can either ride the wave, you know, continue to ride it, or I mean, you you can be the you can be the thing that destroys it. I mean it's gonna be up to you. But I if I'm him, I'm taking Dillon Geralds: Come don't want to say it, but you can say it. Kolton Myatt: the momentum right now that Big Blue Nation I I just just take the momentum that Big Blue Nation is riding right now and ride it into basketball. Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Kolton Myatt: Don't let it don't let it die out. Go beat Kansas early. Go beat Kansas Dillon Geralds: Mm-hmm. Kolton Myatt: early. Right, that's a statement game right there. Tyron Stokes chose them over us, trolled us, all this stuff. Beat early while football season's still going on. You'll have the fan base, right? You'll have They'll be bought in. They're bought into football, they're riding high. Go beat Kansas. Dillon Geralds: W when when is that game? Mason: Complicates. Dillon Geralds: I'm I'm trying to think like what the scenario could be. Kolton Myatt: It'll be should Dillon Geralds: Like for Kentucky football, like what if we're like riding a high at eight and one Mason: Okay. Dillon Geralds: or eight and two, nine and two, when that game is going on? I would love to know that Kolton Myatt: I mean here Dillon Geralds: while y'all are Kolton Myatt: I hi here's the thing, you I don't I th I think it's nor Mason: November tenth. Kolton Myatt: November tenth, so we will play what, four more games between now and then. Mason: That'll be right after It'll be us going after we play at Tennessee, right? 'Cause we have a bi week Halloween, right? Kolton Myatt: Yes. Dillon Geralds: Ooh. So that means that Mason: And then we play Tennessee that next week w which would be like November seventh or eighth or somewhere around there. Or Kolton Myatt: We played Tennessee that week and then November so then yes, we play Tennessee on a Saturday. That Mason: That foul one. Kolton Myatt: Tuesday we Dillon Geralds: Okay. Kolton Myatt: play Kansas. Mason: That can be electric. Dillon Geralds: So theoretically, let's play this. All right. So let's say that we do beat Oklahoma six and one, beat Vany seven and Kolton Myatt: Well okay. Dillon Geralds: one, and then have our bye week. Let's just say that let we gotta throw a lot. Okay, eight and two. We're eight and two going into that game. Mason: No, no, w no win we win that game too. Or eight and one that Dillon Geralds: mean I'm just saying I mean I know, I mean but I mean yeah. Hey, me Mason d me and you picked Kolton Myatt: Look here here. Dillon Geralds: it. Mason: The what? Kolton Myatt: Big boy. Dillon Geralds: We we picked Kentucky to win. Treg, who's on here if he's still on here, Treg was the one who said we was gonna lose. Me and Mason picked us to win. Mason: Yeah. LSU. Kolton Myatt: Hey hey, go go back to the go back to the the I think you got it wrong on go back to the preseason with Billy Joe. I I picked I picked us to Mason: He he did the the preseason. Yeah. He picked LSU. Kolton Myatt: I picked us to beat LSU. Yeah, Mason: It did. Kolton Myatt: I did. Yeah, what a call. What a call. Go back to pick. Go back listen, there's there's six games left, fellas. Dillon Geralds: Okay, then boy. Can can y'all see Mason: Cope might even hear got it right. Kolton Myatt: We have three home games, three away games. The three home games, Vandy Florida Louisville. Mason: Shouldn't win us. Kolton Myatt: You've got to go on the road to Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Missouri. Now, here here's the thing. I know I I'll be on listen, I've Mason: Get two of those. Get two of those we're in the playoff. Dillon Geralds: Yeah, get to That's what I'm saying. Mason, that's what I said. Kolton Myatt: done I've done this. You're automatically in the playoffs. You get two of those and you win your home games. If you just win your home games and you get one of those three, you finish nine and three. You look at the rest of the scheduling, these other teams are going to fall too. Like someone's going to have to fall. Like they're going to be multiple teams at nine and three. And if the SEC gets a chance to get five teams in. I mean we're right there at it. We're right. You have to win your three home games then. You gotta win your three home games. Dillon Geralds: They'll do it. Mason our colt, hey, save it, save it. Save it. We're gonna save it for Mason: Yeah. I I think I think the most I think the most important ones out of those are gonna be like your like Missouri, right? 'Cause like if it comes down to us in Missouri, who has the head to head? You know what I'm saying? So like I think Missouri's gonna be a really, really Tennessee I feel is gonna end up having three losses. Four maybe. 'Cause they got Bama next week. That's gonna be two. And then Kolton Myatt: Mm-hmm. And Tennessee's gonna be one too. Look at but but well but look at Tennessee's schedule though. if they don't have a but Mason: who do they have after that? Kolton Myatt: that see they don't have that tough they don't have that tough of a schedule. Mason: Tate look garbage right now. Dillon Geralds: Hi, hi, we'll we'll we'll get into this on the next episode. Kolton Myatt: Yeah, I we'll we'll we we can get into we can get into it. I trust me, I I spent all day looking. Mason: Haha alright. I'm just looking at their schedule. Dillon Geralds: I do Mason: they still got LSU too. Dillon Geralds: can you all see the comments? are y'all able to see the comments? Kolton Myatt: I'd I'd I not on this platform. I can't see what what are we on? Mason: Yeah. Yeah. Gotta gotta check hold. Dillon Geralds: Okay. Well one of the well one of the guys, Eric, he was talking about just Mason: Public chat. Dillon Geralds: Coach Stein, what he's done for the families in the Commonwealth, like the memories. Mason: Yeah, it's a cool story. Dillon Geralds: He said that him and his son was able to rush the field last night. His son's actually an Alabama fan. but he's converted him. He's getting another one on on our side. but he was just talking about the connection that Coach Stein, and that's where we'll wrap things off here tonight, is just the connection that Will Stein has brought in for big blue nation, connecting the family, the friends, and just, you know, he said it best, giving us something that will last our entire lives. And and that's exactly right. Like you I obviously we're this is not something to get deep, but like sports, man. Like I mean, it's just awesome. Like you you take it does and that's that I had that conversation the other night. I can't who it was with, but we were we were talking like with sports, whether it doesn't matter your background, your job, your ethnicity, like it doesn't matter about any of that. You can come together and cheer for the same team and same program and give it your all and man. Like Will Stein has fully, fully brought that to this desperate fan base that is just wanting to show what it can do on the football side things. We've done it in basketball. People know us, right, Mason? Like they they know. They know what BBN is for basketball, but I don't think that they knew the beast, the storm, right? The storm that we that we can be for for football as well. Talk a little bit about that and we'll we'll close this episode out. I'm gonna send it over to you, Mason. Mason: Me or Coke. Kolton Myatt: Go ahead, Mace. Mason: Yeah, so I mean i I I think I think people haven't realized, right? Like I I was telling somebody last night and you're you're talking about the storm, like Krogerfield was absolutely electric. Like w it's not the biggest stadium in the SEC, you know, not one of the biggest stadiums in the country. We're not really known for football. But when BBN gets bought in and they get fired up and they get behind a team Watch out. We can do it unlike anybody else in the country, right? And I mean, w Will Stein, he j he just keeps pumping along, right? Like he he's building he's not only building his team up, right? He's building his fan base up. Like he's saying all the right things, right? He's just he he has this persona about him that everybody just kind of gravitates towards him, right? And he just he's just Dillon Geralds: But he's backing it up. He is backing it up. Mason: he is he is, he is. And so i it Man, we just keep saying it over and over. It's just so awesome to see, you know, Krogerfield. There I've been to a lot of great games at Krogerfield. I don't know that I've ever seen it like it was last night. Like I I've been I was there when we won in Dillon Geralds: I I agree. Mason: two thousand seven. Like I was at that game. And I I mean I was only ten years old at the time, but I remember it. You know, but like last night, everything that he has going on right now, it Kentucky football, uhhuh. They're here. They're here. We're gonna be around. We're on our Dillon Geralds: Yeah. Mason: way up. Dillon Geralds: The storm, baby. The storm is here. We'll keep saying it. Come close us out on a something strong. I love what Matt just said too. Minchy up the middle is my blocked by LeBron moment. I Mason: Ha ha. Dillon Geralds: am in brother. Amen. I don't know. Mason, we got another one. I Mason: He said he said he said wife was confused when she came downstairs to a living room and no couch. Kolton Myatt: Man, I just can't but look, Dillon Geralds: Code and Cosmos out on something strong. Come on, give Kolton Myatt: it's just a different Dillon Geralds: me something inspirational. Kolton Myatt: It's it's it's not the it's not this it's not the same O UK. I mean this we're going into a we're going into another atmosphere in which this team was a preseason college football playoff expectation team, just beat the number one team in the country. And I we're not scared. Not saying we're gonna go in there and win that game, but I'm not sitting Mason: Faber. Kolton Myatt: I'm not sitting here thinking that we're gonna get killed. Right? So that to me there's no reason why we can't win this game. Go win it. Mason: Just like they're saying Phoebe. Yeah. Kolton Myatt: Yeah, yeah. Love everyone but us. Dillon Geralds: I mean Mason: Yeah, take that how you want. Dillon Geralds: Hey, I want to give one moment real quick.
