Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 2: My name is Beaumontee Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 2: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 2: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:19Speaker 2: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:22Speaker 2: a hater. We got a lot to talk about here.
- 0:24Speaker 2: LeBron went off and made y'all mad. But first, I
- 0:27Speaker 2: need everybody to understand something. This is very important to me.
- 0:31Speaker 2: The people hear this part that I'm about to say, okay?
- 0:34Speaker 2: But what I never want to be, and I worried
- 0:37Speaker 2: about this when Kaitlyn Clark was really popular or whatever,
- 0:40Speaker 2: I didn't want to be the person that only jumps
- 0:42Speaker 2: in to talk about women's basketball when it's a measure
- 0:45Speaker 2: of drama that's going on over there, right? Like that
- 0:48Speaker 2: feels somewhat exploitative or whatever it is. And I understand
- 0:51Speaker 2: why for the fans of women's basketball, that is not
- 0:54Speaker 2: something that they like very much. But I also learned
- 0:57Speaker 2: that from a lot of fans of women's basketball that
- 0:59Speaker 2: they also didn't like very much was when I tried
- 1:01Speaker 2: to talk about women's basketball.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Neither here nor there.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Anyway, I just want everybody to know that I watched
- 1:09Speaker 2: the championship game on Sunday because I was prepared to
- 1:13Speaker 2: discuss this game on this show. However, final score of
- 1:21Speaker 2: that game was 79 to 51. Which is to say,
- 1:29Speaker 2: this concludes my discussion of the women's NCAA championship. Championship
- 1:36Speaker 2: basketball game. But I can't talk about what happened on Friday.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Okay?
- 1:42Speaker 2: Now, I also want to be clear about this, that
- 1:45Speaker 2: I don't really even feel like this is jumping in
- 1:48Speaker 2: on something that was messy.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Like, this is.
- 1:51Speaker 2: This shook America up. And this being Gino Auriemma just...
- 1:58Speaker 2: chastising Don Staley after UConn lost.
- 2:01Speaker 1: That game, and they got their asses kicked in that game.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Like, I mean, there's really no other way to put
- 2:07Speaker 2: the way that loss went down. They got their asses kicked.
- 2:13Speaker 2: It was 62-48, Ryan, but when it's only 62 for
- 2:18Speaker 2: the top score, winning by 14 points is whooping some ass.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Like, 62-48 in a game that has a 40-second shot clock?
- 2:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's... That's a ball, and the game was never
- 2:29Speaker 3: really close, which is part of the reason why Geno
- 2:32Speaker 3: was so hot.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I mean, no, that's the whole reason.
- 2:34Speaker 2: He lost his shit because they got their asses kicked, right?
- 2:38Speaker 1: That's what it comes down to.
- 2:40Speaker 2: And generally speaking, and I don't know if you and
- 2:42Speaker 2: I have explicitly talked about this. I think you've gleaned
- 2:44Speaker 2: this from me, but this is something I talk about.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Me and my man Rick talk about this. Ain't many
- 2:48Speaker 2: things in this world that bring me greater joy than
- 2:52Speaker 2: watching somebody just flat out lose their shit for something
- 2:56Speaker 2: that is not in line with the level of shit losing.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Or even sometimes when it is in line with it, right?
- 3:03Speaker 2: But an adult just completely going on tilt is typically hilarious. Yes.
- 3:11Speaker 1: That was not hilarious.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Correct.
- 3:13Speaker 1: It was not hilarious at all. It took everyone aback.
- 3:17Speaker 2: And it's not as though we've never seen Gino Auriemma
- 3:20Speaker 2: be a little.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Shall we say, feisty, or whatever the word is, that
- 3:23Speaker 1: is spicy. How about that? That's the broad term.
- 3:25Speaker 3: He has been spicy since this tournament has started. Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 3: I mean, he's telling everyone in their world about the
- 3:32Speaker 3: injustices of the women's tournament compared to the men's tournament.
- 3:35Speaker 3: So he's been on tilt going into this, and he was...
- 3:38Speaker 3: Extra on tilt in the Final Four.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And actually, I would say at this age, salty.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yes.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Right?
- 3:45Speaker 2: Like, not even salty in the modern sense, right? Salty
- 3:47Speaker 2: in the old school. Talk about somebody being salty. But also, salty.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:53Speaker 2: It was incredibly salty at the end of that game,
- 3:55Speaker 2: and it involved finger pointing, and it was wild because
- 4:00Speaker 2: it is very clear that Gene Auriem and Don Staley
- 4:02Speaker 2: do not like each other. It was Geno going off
- 4:05Speaker 2: on Don Staley in that game. And even with that,
- 4:08Speaker 2: she was kind of like, yo, what's really hood? Like,
- 4:11Speaker 2: I don't understand what's going on here. And it wasn't
- 4:14Speaker 2: until she fully understood what had taken place that she
- 4:17Speaker 2: said that she would have whooped Gino's ass.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh, hey, that's all. We can't. No.
- 4:25Speaker 1: We can't talk about that on the podcast.
- 4:28Speaker 3: No.
- 4:29Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 4:30Speaker 3: No, we cannot.
- 4:31Speaker 2: No.
- 4:31Speaker 1: But I was.
- 4:33Speaker 2: People were texting me about it, like something about Geno.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And I'll be honest with you, Ryan. I had to
- 4:37Speaker 2: go back and check.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Because I had forgotten.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It used to be that the women's games were ahead
- 4:42Speaker 2: of the men's games, which is to say the men's
- 4:44Speaker 2: Final Four would be Saturday and Monday and the women's
- 4:48Speaker 2: will be Sunday and Tuesday. I know they changed it
- 4:51Speaker 2: quite a while ago, but I still think the Astros
- 4:54Speaker 2: play in the National League.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Yes.
- 4:56Speaker 1: You know, like it's not always that easy to make
- 4:58Speaker 1: the transition.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yeah, sometimes they're still the San Diego Chargers sometimes. Yeah, right, right.
- 5:03Speaker 2: So I saw the highlights, but I didn't watch the game,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and people were texting me about something with Geno, and
- 5:08Speaker 2: I thought Geno Smith had been busted for a DUI
- 5:14Speaker 2: or something. I didn't know what people were talking about
- 5:17Speaker 2: because I didn't realize there were games on, right? So
- 5:21Speaker 2: then I saw the clip, and he's got his finger pointed,
- 5:23Speaker 2: and he's doing all this talking and everything else.
- 5:26Speaker 3: And he's losing his mind with Holly row during halftime,
- 5:30Speaker 3: like the whole deal.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah. And look, man, I'm gonna give him a pro tip.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna give this pro tip to you also. I
- 5:39Speaker 2: don't care what the circumstances are. Ain't no winning in a, um,
- 5:46Speaker 2: let me make sure I'm using this word correctly.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Ain't no winning. There we go. In a vociferous argument.
- 5:54Speaker 1: With the woman on television, you as man.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Yeah, especially when you're a foot taller than her.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're not. Well, is he a
- 6:01Speaker 1: foot taller than her?
- 6:03Speaker 3: How tall is very short?
- 6:04Speaker 2: Let me look up how tall Gino is. How tall
- 6:07Speaker 2: is Gino? Because I've always gotten the feeling that he
- 6:10Speaker 2: was a... Wow, he's 6'1.
- 6:11Speaker 1: That's at least a foot. Yes, dude, he was giving
- 6:16Speaker 1: me such 5'7 energy.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Such 5'8 energy, yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 1: It never dawned on me.
- 6:20Speaker 2: In my mind, when he was arguing with John Staley
- 6:23Speaker 2: and watching it, I had made him so short that
- 6:25Speaker 2: he might as well have been pointing up. And it
- 6:29Speaker 2: made him seem so small. and the way that he
- 6:32Speaker 2: handled it in that moment. Like, you're not winning, generally speaking.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Even if you have the moral high ground on this,
- 6:40Speaker 2: you're not winning in terms of perception. Now let it
- 6:44Speaker 2: be that not only did you have no good reason
- 6:47Speaker 2: to behave like that, and you're out here.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Being a sore loser. Come on, man, right?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Now, I had forgotten, by the way, that last year
- 6:58Speaker 2: Dawn Staley embarrassed herself going on tilt on the sidelines.
- 7:03Speaker 2: She was in the chair. It was like the first
- 7:05Speaker 2: half of the game and she just completely came apart.
- 7:08Speaker 2: But it was her talking to her. That's just kind
- 7:12Speaker 2: of like, boy, I sure hope she gets that together.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Once you bring this into other people's spaces. Now, Dan
- 7:18Speaker 2: Wolkin of USA Today wrote a column that was actually
- 7:21Speaker 2: pretty measured that made the comparison between Ari Yema and
- 7:25Speaker 2: Woody Hayes. Now, I was not alive when Woody Hayes
- 7:29Speaker 2: hit Charlie Bauman.
- 7:30Speaker 1: That's why.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I don't know what, maybe, I guess if Nick Saban
- 7:38Speaker 2: had out of nowhere stole off on a player in
- 7:42Speaker 2: the middle of the game, maybe that would.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Have been comparable. Like, obviously, you know, for the younger listeners, like,
- 7:51Speaker 3: it would have to be someone of that caliber. Like,
- 7:54Speaker 3: you're comparing... accomplishment, not attitude. It's not like Brian Kelly.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I mean, somebody of that age with that resume, but
- 8:07Speaker 2: also keep in mind the role of a coach at
- 8:09Speaker 2: that point in time.
- 8:10Speaker 1: This is well before the idea of a CEO coach.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Woody Hayes might as well have been a surrogate daddy
- 8:18Speaker 2: to an entire generation of people. This is when the
- 8:23Speaker 2: 70s game, or not even the 70s, but the 10-year
- 8:27Speaker 2: war between Ohio State and Michigan that I think they
- 8:30Speaker 2: went 5-5 against each other with Schembechler. And Woody Hayes,
- 8:33Speaker 2: where the coach is a literal drill sergeant in many cases,
- 8:37Speaker 2: like an offshoot.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Of the military, everything else.
- 8:39Speaker 2: In the middle of the game, because first of all,
- 8:41Speaker 2: it's ridiculous at that point that Ohio State is in
- 8:43Speaker 2: the Gator Bowl and they're losing to Clemson, of all people.
- 8:47Speaker 2: And he steals off on a linebacker after he's made
- 8:51Speaker 2: an interception. That's the comp that Wolken made in his column.
- 8:56Speaker 2: And I don't think it was necessarily inappropriate. I don't
- 8:58Speaker 2: think that what Geno did was the same thing. But
- 9:01Speaker 2: the point that he makes is that Woody Hayes was
- 9:04Speaker 2: 64 when he did that and Geno was 72. Like,
- 9:08Speaker 2: it was as if his inability to control himself indicated
- 9:12Speaker 2: that maybe he shouldn't have this job anymore. Woody Hayes'
- 9:17Speaker 2: inability to control himself indicated that he shouldn't have the
- 9:22Speaker 2: Ohio State job anymore. You know what else indicated that
- 9:26Speaker 2: he shouldn't have the Ohio State job anymore? They only
- 9:29Speaker 2: won seven games that year. If Ohio State had been 11-1,
- 9:34Speaker 2: they wasn't going to be firing Woody Hayes after what
- 9:38Speaker 2: had happened.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Gino Auriemma, in the last.
- 9:43Speaker 2: 20 NCAA tournaments, they've gone to the Final Four. 16 times,
- 9:53Speaker 2: including this year. Last year, they won the championship. The
- 9:56Speaker 2: year before, they went to the Final Four. Two years
- 9:59Speaker 2: before that, they were the runner-up. The year before that,
- 10:02Speaker 2: they went to the Final Four.
- 10:03Speaker 1: It was COVID.
- 10:04Speaker 2: The three tournaments before that, they went to the Final Four.
- 10:08Speaker 2: The four seasons before that, they won national championships. The
- 10:11Speaker 2: two seasons before that, they went to Final Four. Two
- 10:14Speaker 2: seasons before that, national championships. All I'm saying is, they
- 10:19Speaker 2: ain't firing Nogino Ariema behind something like that.
- 10:28Speaker 1: However, it sure looked like they should have fired him. Now,
- 10:32Speaker 1: didn't it?
- 10:35Speaker 3: Right?
- 10:35Speaker 1: Like, this is not.
- 10:37Speaker 2: It doesn't... It almost doesn't matter what your point of
- 10:40Speaker 2: comparison might be or anything else. I think that just
- 10:43Speaker 2: had a whole lot to do just with the way
- 10:47Speaker 2: it made people feel to watch that as it happened.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And he's been doing this job a long time.
- 10:55Speaker 2: He knows you can't do that. He knows that you
- 10:59Speaker 2: can't get away with that. Now, I don't think that
- 11:02Speaker 2: there's going to be any sort of suspension or or
- 11:05Speaker 2: any sort of discipline that comes from this.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But Ryan, I do feel like this. He better win
- 11:10Speaker 1: a lot. Of course, he seems to do that anyway.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:15Speaker 2: But the margin for error that you now have is
- 11:19Speaker 2: it ain't there.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Right. And especially with an apology that people found to be.
- 11:24Speaker 1: There we go. I almost forgot about that part.
- 11:28Speaker 2: If you have not seen the Gino Ariema apology, I'm
- 11:31Speaker 2: going to read it to you, okay? And There are
- 11:35Speaker 2: two words that are not present in this apology.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Oh, by the way, Ryan, here's the headline. I didn't
- 11:41Speaker 1: see this because we were getting ready to record.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Staley makes show of pregame hug with Close. Corey Close
- 11:48Speaker 2: being the head coach of UCLA. So Gino apologizes. Here's
- 11:53Speaker 2: the statement. There's no excuse for how I handled the
- 11:56Speaker 2: end of the game versus South Carolina. It's unlike what
- 11:59Speaker 2: I do and what our standard is here at Connecticut.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I want to apologize to the staff and the team
- 12:04Speaker 2: at South Carolina. It was uncalled for in how I reacted.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Story should be how well South Carolina played, and I
- 12:11Speaker 2: don't want my actions to detract from that. I've had
- 12:13Speaker 2: a great relationship with their staff, and I sincerely want
- 12:16Speaker 2: to apologize to them.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Did you notice the two words that weren't there, Ryan?
- 12:22Speaker 3: Dawn and Staley?
- 12:23Speaker 1: They were not.
- 12:25Speaker 2: They were nowhere to be found. And that, I can't
- 12:28Speaker 2: believe UConn's comms people. I mean, I guess you have to.
- 12:32Speaker 1: He's Geno.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 12:34Speaker 1: We look this up.
- 12:35Speaker 2: They made the Sweet 16 33 years straight.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Minus the COVID year.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Right. Right.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I guess you can't say anything to him.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:48Speaker 2: But there are many situations in a time like this
- 12:50Speaker 2: where they come to you and they say, well, when
- 12:53Speaker 2: you're ready to put the words Don Staley in this statement,
- 12:55Speaker 2: then you can come back to work. Right? Like until
- 12:59Speaker 2: you're ready to do insert thing here. Remember when Kyrie
- 13:03Speaker 2: was suspended like indefinitely?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:05Speaker 1: It was very clear.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Until you're ready to say X, Y, and Z, you know,
- 13:11Speaker 2: like you want to come out here wearing.
- 13:12Speaker 1: That scarf or whatever, that's fine, big dog, but you
- 13:14Speaker 1: don't need to say X, Y, and Z. People get
- 13:18Speaker 1: nervous when I do that one, right?
- 13:20Speaker 3: Yes.
- 13:22Speaker 1: People get nervous.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I am people.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I'm taking on the persona of someone.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Else who might say such a thing.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Yes, of course. Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I also can't ever remember what it's called. But anyway,
- 13:35Speaker 2: I know I'll start with a K. But anyway, if
- 13:39Speaker 2: you can't say this, you can't come back to work.
- 13:43Speaker 2: And if somebody took that approach, Regino right there, I
- 13:45Speaker 2: get it. Though I do love the fact, and you
- 13:47Speaker 2: had mentioned this before we got out here, The three
- 13:51Speaker 2: biggest name coaches in college basketball on the women's side, they.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Are all over the place.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Right. Characters.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Characters.
- 14:00Speaker 2: The women's game is so much farther now in terms
- 14:04Speaker 2: of character as coaches.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Right. Characters and coaches. And also like, I mean, they don't,
- 14:11Speaker 3: they don't, the players don't jump around like they do
- 14:13Speaker 3: on the men's side.
- 14:15Speaker 2: No.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Right.
- 14:16Speaker 1: No, they don't. But I mean, we'll see as the
- 14:18Speaker 1: money goes.
- 14:19Speaker 3: You know, I mean, you look at them inside, you
- 14:22Speaker 3: look at the people they're trying to hire for this
- 14:23Speaker 3: UNC job, as people keep saying no, you know, there
- 14:26Speaker 3: are statements about the candidates, and other than Billy Donovan,
- 14:29Speaker 3: I haven't heard half the names.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. I feel very confident saying this.
- 14:35Speaker 2: The thing with Billy Donovan is it appears that he
- 14:38Speaker 2: will not leave the Bulls job as the season goes on,
- 14:41Speaker 2: which I respect.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Right. If it's that important.
- 14:43Speaker 2: And what we know is Jerry Reinsdorf is not going
- 14:46Speaker 2: to fire him Because then you'd have to pay him
- 14:49Speaker 2: to not do it.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Not interesting.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Not how it gets down. Not on the board.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Speaking of things that have been going on since the 90s.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Yeah, he's Mike Brown, right? Mike Brown, the owner of
- 14:59Speaker 2: the Bengals, Mike Brown. That's not going down.
- 15:02Speaker 1: This is my read. This is not informed. This is
- 15:05Speaker 1: my read. They would be in a panic if they
- 15:12Speaker 1: did not.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Legitimately believe that they could hire Billy Donald.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Right. Right.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Look, they've never had a real they've they've never had
- 15:21Speaker 2: a real coaching search before. This is their first actual
- 15:24Speaker 2: factual coaching search that they've ever had, at least that
- 15:27Speaker 2: they've had since.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Frank McGuire got hired. Right.
- 15:32Speaker 2: They would be completely lost if they did not have
- 15:35Speaker 2: some reason to believe that they could get Billy Donovan.
- 15:39Speaker 2: And I think Billy Donovan. I think coaching in the
- 15:43Speaker 2: NBA is over for him if he wants to continue coaching.
- 15:47Speaker 2: It'll get no better than coaching at North Carolina. So
- 15:53Speaker 2: maybe he gets there late. I think it would stink
- 15:56Speaker 2: for Carolina if they hire him after the transfer portal
- 15:58Speaker 2: is open. But this is a 10-year hire, not a
- 16:02Speaker 2: one-year hire.
- 16:03Speaker 1: And if you got a punt on.
- 16:04Speaker 2: This year to get Billy Donovan, you don't rush this
- 16:08Speaker 2: for the one year to get a coach that you
- 16:10Speaker 2: might not actually want to get.
- 16:13Speaker 1: You don't do that. That's my thought. Let me tell
- 16:15Speaker 1: you what Billy Donovan is not, though. He ain't no character.
- 16:18Speaker 3: All right.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Women's game got characters, you know, and shoot. Woman won
- 16:24Speaker 2: the national championship wearing leather pants. Ain't nobody wearing no
- 16:26Speaker 2: leather pants on the men's side. Everybody over there wearing
- 16:28Speaker 2: quarter zips.
- 16:30Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
- 16:30Speaker 2: Like it's a what I said when the Caitlin Clark
- 16:33Speaker 2: thing was going, the advantage they'd have over there is consistency.
- 16:36Speaker 2: They got better characters up top and they have a
- 16:39Speaker 2: more of a roster consistency that allows people.
- 16:41Speaker 1: And look, there's still a decent bit of transfer action, um,
- 16:44Speaker 1: that goes on over there.
- 16:46Speaker 2: But I enjoy the fact that their coaches don't like
- 16:50Speaker 2: each other, but you can't do that.
- 16:53Speaker 1: You in particular cannot do that.
- 16:57Speaker 2: If Don Staley and Kim Mulkey have that back and forth,
- 17:01Speaker 2: we view it differently. Um, I'd be also terrified to
- 17:05Speaker 2: talk about it on this show in a number of ways,
- 17:08Speaker 2: but we're not having the conversation that we're having right now.
- 17:12Speaker 2: It's okay to say that. I think that's a fair acknowledgement.
- 17:15Speaker 2: But hey, man, that's the world. That's how it works.
- 17:18Speaker 2: You can't do that, period. And if he hadn't done
- 17:24Speaker 2: all this goddamn winning that we had just talked about,
- 17:26Speaker 2: we'd be having a whole nother conversation right now.
- 17:30Speaker 3: But he has.
- 17:31Speaker 2: So we just had to wonder we did. Brian made
- 17:40Speaker 2: him mad over the weekend. Boy, he made him mad.
- 17:45Speaker 2: This has been a very interesting sports weekend, right? Because
- 17:47Speaker 2: it's been, right, it's been things that are, like, really
- 17:49Speaker 2: interesting that have happened but aren't necessarily talkers. Like, that
- 17:53Speaker 2: overtime show that Jokic put on Big Vic where they
- 17:56Speaker 2: both looked incredible.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Go look up Jokic's numbers against Victor.
- 18:01Speaker 3: And that moon shot over him to quench the game.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Dude, we talked about this the other day.
- 18:09Speaker 2: He's the best player in the league, and it's amazing
- 18:12Speaker 2: that people have somehow gotten bored with him being the
- 18:15Speaker 2: best player in the league. In seven games against Victor,
- 18:19Speaker 2: Joker is averaging 37-11-9.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Yeah, they're cruising to a round two matchup after, you know, whatever.
- 18:28Speaker 3: The Lakers have lost two of their top three players.
- 18:32Speaker 3: They're cooked. Cooked. They're cooked. We're about to find out
- 18:36Speaker 3: a lot about Bronny James the next few weeks. Cause
- 18:38Speaker 3: he's going to have to play.
- 18:40Speaker 5: You.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 18:43Speaker 4: You.
- 18:44Speaker 1: That's a, that's a thing.
- 18:46Speaker 2: By the way, I also want to know just so
- 18:47Speaker 2: no one loses sight of also Victor in that game
- 18:50Speaker 2: himself put up 34, 18, seven assists in five blocks.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:01Speaker 1: What is the NBA right now?
- 19:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Like this is the best player in the league is
- 19:06Speaker 1: the other guy.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:08Speaker 5: Right?
- 19:08Speaker 1: This is where we are.
- 19:09Speaker 2: But anyway, for those of you who ain't seen this,
- 19:13Speaker 2: and every now and then I get afraid, right, that, like,
- 19:15Speaker 2: hopefully we're not overestimating how much, like, not letting Twitter
- 19:19Speaker 2: program our show or the social media apps, but this
- 19:21Speaker 2: seemed to have people really charged up.
- 19:23Speaker 3: No, this guy, this broke a day. Yeah, this broke
- 19:27Speaker 3: a day.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Okay, so long and short, LeBron was out playing golf
- 19:31Speaker 2: with some white dudes, and that detail is very important.
- 19:34Speaker 3: In like in almost the widest setting imaginable.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:37Speaker 1: And it's a show, right?
- 19:39Speaker 2: Like it's a, it's, it's a, it's a thing, but
- 19:42Speaker 2: some random white boys playing golf.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Not only would he get on there with them, he
- 19:45Speaker 1: got loose.
- 19:47Speaker 3: The loosest he's been, he was looser with them than
- 19:50Speaker 3: he's been. It's been a long time.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, like he must really love golf or like didn't
- 19:56Speaker 2: think they was really, I mean, I don't know.
- 19:58Speaker 3: That has been the interesting like sub-wrinkle of this year
- 20:01Speaker 3: is how much he loves golf and specifically this sort
- 20:04Speaker 3: of like YouTube show golf. Yes. Like almost- streamer golf
- 20:10Speaker 3: content yeah he is legitimately.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Dialed in ellen yeah it has gotten him and you
- 20:15Speaker 1: play golf.
- 20:16Speaker 3: No i do not but i'm pretty familiar with the
- 20:18Speaker 3: world i had.
- 20:19Speaker 2: A summer that i played so much golf that i
- 20:21Speaker 2: played till i went broke like i was literally my
- 20:23Speaker 2: card was getting denied at the course which goes over
- 20:27Speaker 2: differently when they listen to you on the radio.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Just letting you guys know. It was before TV money.
- 20:37Speaker 2: When radio money was like the money that I could
- 20:41Speaker 2: buy a radio. But anyway, so LeBron's out there and
- 20:46Speaker 2: these cats ask him about cities he doesn't like playing in.
- 20:48Speaker 2: And the full context I do think is somewhat important.
- 20:51Speaker 2: He said he doesn't like playing in Milwaukee. And he
- 20:55Speaker 2: said he doesn't like playing in Memphis.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Now, He could have stopped there. And if he had
- 21:05Speaker 2: stopped there, I would just try to explain something to
- 21:08Speaker 2: people that they kind of need to get. The NBA
- 21:12Speaker 2: collective bargaining agreement requires five-star hotels for the players. And
- 21:17Speaker 2: this is an issue in some of the towns where
- 21:21Speaker 2: there are NBA teams. Like Oklahoma City, I think, for example,
- 21:24Speaker 2: has one hotel that fits the description. It's also your
- 21:27Speaker 2: friendly reminder that five-star hotel is not some kind of
- 21:31Speaker 2: scientific designation, right? Like, what five-star means is incredibly broad.
- 21:38Speaker 2: And in Memphis, it means the Westin that's across the
- 21:40Speaker 2: street from the arena. And it ain't no fancy Westin.
- 21:43Speaker 1: It's a Westin.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I understand that for some of you, they're like, what's
- 21:48Speaker 2: wrong with the Westin? Here's what's wrong with the Westin.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Nothing except.
- 21:54Speaker 1: It's a very important except. This is the standard that
- 21:57Speaker 1: we have for hotels.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I remember when I was younger, And I was just
- 22:00Speaker 2: kind of like, you know, when you're in college, you
- 22:01Speaker 2: do something to get a little hotel room. You get
- 22:03Speaker 2: you like a Hampton Inn or something like that. You know,
- 22:05Speaker 2: a little affordable situation. And I remember saying to myself,
- 22:09Speaker 2: I never understood how it was that people got too
- 22:11Speaker 2: good for that.
- 22:12Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, it does the job.
- 22:13Speaker 1: You got a bed. You got a shower. You got
- 22:15Speaker 1: what you need. Whatever it is. Okay. Here's the rule
- 22:18Speaker 1: for hotels.
- 22:22Speaker 2: A hotel must be as nice or nicer than the
- 22:28Speaker 2: place that you live. That is how your standards for
- 22:32Speaker 2: hotels change, and they may move with whatever your life is.
- 22:36Speaker 2: It is in line with whatever your house is. And
- 22:39Speaker 2: I'm here to tell you, LeBron James' house is a
- 22:42Speaker 2: lot nicer than the Western.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Just throwing it out there.
- 22:47Speaker 2: The other thing I would say, where I could understand,
- 22:49Speaker 2: because he might not want to go to those places also,
- 22:52Speaker 2: is simply, he's not going to those cities as me
- 22:56Speaker 2: or you. He's going to those cities as LeBron James,
- 23:01Speaker 2: incredibly rich person.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 23:04Speaker 1: He wants to do incredibly rich things.
- 23:08Speaker 2: OK, so while Gus's fried chicken might be something that
- 23:13Speaker 2: you look forward to doing when you go to Memphis,
- 23:16Speaker 2: it's not really like what LeBron is about at this point.
- 23:21Speaker 1: That's not what he wants to do.
- 23:22Speaker 2: This is the reason why he and the entire league
- 23:25Speaker 2: talk about how Memphis is the worst place for them
- 23:28Speaker 2: to go. Now, I am surprised that on that list
- 23:32Speaker 2: is not Oklahoma City.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Is that the point?
- 23:37Speaker 3: Is Oklahoma City where they stay at the hotel that's haunted?
- 23:42Speaker 1: Yes, it is.
- 23:44Speaker 4: Yes, it is.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Okay.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Again.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Because again, because there's one hotel.
- 23:49Speaker 1: There's only one.
- 23:51Speaker 2: If you've ever had to try to book a hotel
- 23:52Speaker 2: room in Oklahoma City, you understand a little bit about
- 23:55Speaker 2: what LeBron James is talking about, right? But it's a
- 23:57Speaker 2: hotel and they say it's haunted. But for whatever reason,
- 24:00Speaker 2: they still complain about Memphis. Maybe the haunted hotel is nicer.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I have no idea. Like, I would think the Sacramento
- 24:08Speaker 2: maybe would creep up there. People have said, well, what
- 24:11Speaker 2: about Salt Lake City? There's money in Salt Lake City, though.
- 24:17Speaker 2: A lot of money in Salt Lake City, right? Ain't
- 24:19Speaker 2: a lot of drink, but it's a lot of money
- 24:22Speaker 2: in Salt Lake City. I'm not surprised that that isn't
- 24:24Speaker 2: the place that, and it's really pretty, apparently.
- 24:28Speaker 1: But anyway, Memphis is the one that they all talk about.
- 24:31Speaker 2: And I could understand why it is that Memphis is
- 24:34Speaker 2: not up to the standards in a lot of ways
- 24:37Speaker 2: that a lot of these cats are up to. Now,
- 24:39Speaker 2: for those of you who know a little something about Memphis,
- 24:43Speaker 2: you'll understand what I say here, which is, They had
- 24:47Speaker 2: an ordinance that they put in place in Memphis that
- 24:52Speaker 2: affected the cultural fabric of the place, right? It was
- 24:57Speaker 2: a dress code of sorts at certain establishments that established
- 25:02Speaker 2: a minimum level of clothing that.
- 25:06Speaker 1: They were required to wear at, we'll call them, clubs.
- 25:14Speaker 2: The dudes would have liked Memphis a lot more if
- 25:16Speaker 2: it was the Memphis of the old days. If they
- 25:21Speaker 2: did not have that dress code in place, is what
- 25:24Speaker 2: I'm saying. Anyway, if LeBron had simply stopped there, this
- 25:30Speaker 2: would be the conversation I would be having with you
- 25:33Speaker 2: about him talking about how he doesn't like going to
- 25:36Speaker 2: play in Memphis. But that isn't where he stopped. Where
- 25:40Speaker 2: he stopped.
- 25:45Speaker 2: He said they should move the team to Nashville, and buddy,
- 25:48Speaker 2: that is where he stepped in it. Yes.
- 25:51Speaker 3: And then he was asked about it Saturday, and he
- 25:53Speaker 3: doubled down.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Yes.
- 25:54Speaker 2: So the thing about Memphis-Nashville, aside from the idea that
- 25:58Speaker 2: they're cities in the same state, and you know how
- 26:00Speaker 2: that goes, Nashville has kind of been fetishized, especially by
- 26:03Speaker 2: a lot of people on the right, because Nashville... And
- 26:07Speaker 2: I don't have the numbers in front of me. I'm
- 26:09Speaker 2: operating somewhat anecdotally.
- 26:11Speaker 4: But.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Nashville is the rare city in the South that isn't
- 26:17Speaker 2: really associated with a black presence.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Memphis is black. OK, black.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I have heard somebody say that is pejoratively referred to
- 26:29Speaker 2: at times as Memphrica. OK, like we all know this
- 26:33Speaker 2: about Memphis.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Memphis is super duper black. That's what it is.
- 26:37Speaker 2: When you start talking about moving the team to Nashville,
- 26:40Speaker 2: which would not work for a team, they barely want
- 26:42Speaker 2: to support the Titans. They already got a hockey team, right?
- 26:46Speaker 2: Once he decided to take it to that step, oh.
- 26:50Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. Now, now it feels like anti-blackness.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Especially as Nashville has now become the unofficial capital of
- 26:59Speaker 3: right-wing media.
- 27:00Speaker 4: This is.
- 27:01Speaker 2: it's all tied into what we're talking about, right? They
- 27:03Speaker 2: also don't have state income tax. That's a big part
- 27:06Speaker 2: of it. But that's where he wound up. And I
- 27:09Speaker 2: don't even know if he knew that that's where he
- 27:10Speaker 2: was winding up. I do imagine, though, it's a better
- 27:13Speaker 2: place to be a rich person, right? Like for the
- 27:16Speaker 2: sorts of things that he might be talking about and
- 27:17Speaker 2: trying to get into, like I could see how that
- 27:22Speaker 2: would be better for him. But I was a little
- 27:25Speaker 2: floored by how fiercely people responded. to him saying that.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Because I thought it was a sucker move. But I mean,
- 27:34Speaker 2: the real reason it's a sucker move, when these NBA
- 27:37Speaker 2: players get on the podcast and say they don't want
- 27:39Speaker 2: to talk about Memphis, don't want to play in Memphis,
- 27:41Speaker 2: there's a black person right there, there's a black person
- 27:43Speaker 2: right there. You out there with your white friends, they
- 27:45Speaker 2: ain't even your friends.
- 27:46Speaker 1: It sounds like you just met the motherfuckers playing golf.
- 27:49Speaker 2: And then you say this and they're all chuckling it up.
- 27:53Speaker 2: So then they come talk to LeBron after about it
- 27:56Speaker 2: and he doubled down. He was like, I don't even
- 27:58Speaker 2: like going home. He said he don't want to go
- 28:00Speaker 2: to Cleveland no more. And it's like, damn, okay, you
- 28:02Speaker 2: for real about this? You could have very easily been like, hey, man.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Do you think he was referring to Cleveland or Akron
- 28:08Speaker 3: when he said going home?
- 28:10Speaker 4: Yes.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Fair enough.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I will note that one of my partners who was
- 28:14Speaker 2: listening to this show, he said about LeBron, he was
- 28:17Speaker 2: talking about LeBron's how bad about Memphis.
- 28:19Speaker 1: He was like, you're not even from Cleveland.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:23Speaker 1: And so my new name for Akron will now be
- 28:25Speaker 1: not even Cleveland. Just a kid from not even Cleveland.
- 28:30Speaker 1: He was like that guy.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Not even Cleveland, the home of LeBron James and Steph Curry.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 28:34Speaker 1: They're like, yo, how dare you?
- 28:36Speaker 2: How do you even like, how do you even come
- 28:37Speaker 2: out here and say this under these circumstances? You from
- 28:40Speaker 2: not even Cleveland. And you got something to say over this.
- 28:43Speaker 2: And what I also think that people don't get about
- 28:45Speaker 2: Memphis is, if you've ever been to Memphis, I think
- 28:50Speaker 2: you'll get this. This is going to be a roundabout explanation.
- 28:54Speaker 2: People are not going to, the plane will be landing. Ryan,
- 28:59Speaker 2: by any chance, have you ever been.
- 29:01Speaker 1: To Seville, Spain?
- 29:02Speaker 3: I have not.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I went to Seville in 2018. And I don't even
- 29:08Speaker 2: remember why I picked Seville, right? Somebody had hit me
- 29:11Speaker 2: to the fact that Portugal had beaches. So I went
- 29:13Speaker 2: to the Portugal beaches. And then I was like, oh,
- 29:15Speaker 2: I could shoot over to Spain. It was an hour
- 29:17Speaker 2: and a half bus ride to Seville. And I don't
- 29:18Speaker 2: know who told me Seville was cool, but I said, okay,
- 29:21Speaker 2: I went. Never been so hot in my life just
- 29:23Speaker 2: throwing it out there. But for those of you who
- 29:24Speaker 2: don't know, Seville now... me see how many people like
- 29:28Speaker 2: it has an airport like I don't want to act
- 29:30Speaker 2: like it's not a city but Seville is it's got
- 29:34Speaker 2: like 680,000 people right it's really pretty it's really interesting
- 29:38Speaker 2: it has a heavy dose of the influence of the
- 29:41Speaker 2: Moors um and also it's the one place in Spain
- 29:45Speaker 2: that got like a touch of the renaissance right so
- 29:47Speaker 2: it's got a lot of stuff that's going on there
- 29:49Speaker 2: but the big thing is.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Seville used to be the.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Capital of the Spanish empire And there's something about being
- 29:59Speaker 2: there that, like, a bad one is a bad one
- 30:03Speaker 2: is a bad one forever, right? And Seville used to
- 30:06Speaker 2: be the baddest one, and it still got a little
- 30:08Speaker 2: air about it. Like, it still got it. Look, it
- 30:10Speaker 2: don't look like it used to. You know what I'm saying?
- 30:13Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 30:14Speaker 2: You know, it ain't what it was. But in its mind,
- 30:19Speaker 2: Seville is still Seville. I am fascinated by cities like that.
- 30:24Speaker 2: They used to mean something different than they do now.
- 30:27Speaker 2: But the people who are from there, they still got
- 30:31Speaker 2: that in them.
- 30:33Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Like Memphis is one of
- 30:35Speaker 1: those cities. Say it again?
- 30:37Speaker 5: Boston.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Like Baltimore is maybe a little closer example.
- 30:40Speaker 4: St.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Louis, right?
- 30:42Speaker 3: St. Louis is a great one, yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Yeah. Pittsburgh to a degree. But what it is with
- 30:46Speaker 2: these cities is you don't have to explain to.
- 30:48Speaker 1: People where they are.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Right?
- 30:51Speaker 2: People know what your city is. Even if you got jokes,
- 30:55Speaker 2: people know what your, you know, they know something about
- 30:58Speaker 2: the place. And Memphis and people from Memphis carry that
- 31:01Speaker 2: level of pride.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Right?
- 31:04Speaker 2: It is a place that has historically mattered.
- 31:07Speaker 1: And in that region, it is a place that matters.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Right?
- 31:11Speaker 2: It ain't cracking like it used to, dah, dah, dah,
- 31:13Speaker 2: all that stuff. But it still means something. And so
- 31:16Speaker 2: when Buddy talk about, man, they should move the team
- 31:18Speaker 2: to Nashville, to them, they like, but this is ours.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Why are you talking about taking a team from us? Now,
- 31:27Speaker 2: I think that there's a certain measure of overreaction. LeBron
- 31:29Speaker 2: doesn't have the power to do this. It is under
- 31:34Speaker 2: the heading of one man's opinion, but it's one man
- 31:36Speaker 2: who was yucking it up with some white boys on
- 31:38Speaker 2: the golf course about it.
- 31:40Speaker 1: And that was a horrific look for him. And I
- 31:46Speaker 1: don't know if he knows this.
- 31:47Speaker 2: But there's also, that has been a topic of discussion
- 31:49Speaker 2: for people is the idea of moving the Grizzlies out
- 31:52Speaker 2: of Memphis and they like damn we can't have nothing
- 31:55Speaker 2: that's like that's a basketball city they they care about
- 31:58Speaker 2: this right when the team is good they out there
- 32:01Speaker 2: they support it like I don't know what the financials
- 32:03Speaker 2: are or anything like that the city just ain't got
- 32:06Speaker 2: a strong hotel game and if you're an NBA player
- 32:11Speaker 2: that means a lot I think LeBron says something about
- 32:13Speaker 2: staying at the Hyatt Centric and I'm like hey that's
- 32:17Speaker 2: well there's nothing wrong with it um If I were
- 32:20Speaker 2: in the NBA, I would have never heard of the Hyatt-centric.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Just throwing it out there. I would rent an Airbnb
- 32:28Speaker 2: out a whole building before I stayed at the Hyatt-centric
- 32:31Speaker 2: if I was LeBron James under those circumstances. But I'm
- 32:35Speaker 2: surprised he doubled down. Like, he plays it safe on
- 32:40Speaker 2: so many things.
- 32:41Speaker 3: And now he's just like, Yeah, I said it. It's
- 32:46Speaker 3: just my opinion. What's the problem with it?
- 32:48Speaker 2: Well, I would say this on his behalf, though. If
- 32:51Speaker 2: I were him, I would retire at the end of
- 32:55Speaker 2: this season. Because if I were him, I would not
- 33:00Speaker 2: be excited about going back to Memphis.
- 33:04Speaker 1: They take things very personally there. Ask Gucci Mane.
- 33:15Speaker 2: You can predict the playoff action all the way to
- 33:17Speaker 2: the finals with FanDuel Predicts.
- 33:20Speaker 1: All you have to do is sign.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Up to get you a $ 25 bonus. Follow all the
- 33:24Speaker 2: playoff dishes, swishes, wishes, and misses. Every move is a
- 33:28Speaker 2: potential plot twist. Predict the spread, the total points, and

- 36:10Speaker 3: news and information of the day. No need for the
- 36:12Speaker 3: social media feeds. We got you. Now, if you haven't heard.
- 36:18Speaker 3: All right, Bo, if you haven't heard, Michigan's taking on
- 36:20Speaker 3: UConn tonight in the national championship game. Danny Hurley going
- 36:24Speaker 3: for his third national title in four years. Bo, you
- 36:29Speaker 3: think they pulled this off?
- 36:33Speaker 1: Michigan should beat them.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Michigan is like a machine.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Giant.
- 36:38Speaker 1: And what they did to Arizona, boy.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Glad Tommy Lloyd got that money lined up already.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Got his money and doesn't have to report to his
- 36:45Speaker 3: boss he hates. That's right.
- 36:47Speaker 2: That was the big adjustment that he got in his
- 36:50Speaker 2: new deal was to pull that off.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Like, that was the thing.
- 36:53Speaker 2: As the Tommy Lloyd thing was going on, I was like,
- 36:56Speaker 2: I don't know if he wants to go to UNC,
- 36:57Speaker 2: but I do know he wants a raise.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Well, he raised his ass up at that tournament. They
- 37:03Speaker 2: smacked them. Michigan should win that game. Like, if Hurley
- 37:08Speaker 2: manages to win this one, and we're talking about, what,
- 37:11Speaker 2: three titles in four years?
- 37:12Speaker 3: Yep.
- 37:13Speaker 1: We're talking about one of the greatest coaches who ever lived.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Like, I don't, who else has done that? Outside of Wooden,
- 37:21Speaker 2: who's given you three and four years?
- 37:23Speaker 3: Especially in the NIL era. Yes. Like, you know, like it's,
- 37:27Speaker 3: and that's not a place that's, you know, he's not
- 37:31Speaker 3: Texas teching their way into a giant roster. No. You know,
- 37:34Speaker 3: he's figuring this out through, you know.
- 37:36Speaker 2: At a school that has no inherent advantage. And this
- 37:40Speaker 2: is the big one I saw somebody point out. This
- 37:41Speaker 2: is their eighth Final Four. In the seven they've been
- 37:45Speaker 2: through so far, they won six titles.
- 37:48Speaker 1: How is that possible?
- 37:49Speaker 3: I didn't realize they've only been to eight Final Fours.
- 37:52Speaker 1: No, basically every time they've gone.
- 37:54Speaker 2: The only time they didn't was in 09 when they
- 37:57Speaker 2: lost to Michigan State.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Now remember, Hashim Thabit flat out quit at the end
- 38:02Speaker 1: of the game.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a crazy one. It's going to be
- 38:06Speaker 3: interesting to see if Hurley pulls that off. Moving on
- 38:10Speaker 3: to media, TMZ is getting into a new game. They're
- 38:12Speaker 3: going after Politicians, as the government shut down, they are
- 38:17Speaker 3: finding these politicians in different locales all over the country,
- 38:22Speaker 3: including Lindsey Graham at Disney World. Levin said he issued
- 38:27Speaker 3: a call for TMZ's audience to send in photos interviewing
- 38:30Speaker 3: TSA workers, trying to get going after different congressmen. Bo,
- 38:35Speaker 3: are you surprised by TMZ's effort to shame members of Congress?
- 38:39Speaker 2: Let me tell you, if they've decided they're going to
- 38:41Speaker 2: get in this game, everybody need to watch out.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Let me throw something out here for you.
- 38:46Speaker 2: And this is, this will get back to your home state,
- 38:49Speaker 2: but I doubt that you were old enough to remember this.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Does the name Bob Livingston ring a bell to you?
- 38:55Speaker 3: I'm familiar with the name, but not the context you're
- 38:58Speaker 3: talking about.
- 39:00Speaker 2: So when the Clinton impeachment hearings were going on and
- 39:05Speaker 2: every Republican was the highest and the mightiest.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Larry Flint put out a bounty on these cats. He
- 39:13Speaker 1: said it was a million.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Dollars out there for proof of adulterous affairs of any
- 39:19Speaker 2: person in Congress.
- 39:21Speaker 1: And Bob Livingston, who was, it was it was, it was, it.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Was trending toward him becoming the speaker of the house.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Flint got him, put that million dollars on the street.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Somebody came back with the proof and he, uh, had
- 39:39Speaker 2: to resign. He was going to be the speaker of
- 39:41Speaker 2: the house. He had to resign. I mean, Flint caught
- 39:45Speaker 2: him up. I, you know, I don't always approve their methods.
- 39:49Speaker 2: But I trust TMZ's effectiveness more than I do Congress's.
- 39:53Speaker 2: And this is what I'm saying, that if they decide
- 39:55Speaker 2: that they're in this game, they get information that I think,
- 40:02Speaker 2: generally speaking, there's kind of an understanding that we let
- 40:06Speaker 2: a bunch of.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Stuff slide, right?
- 40:08Speaker 2: Like people talk about K Street in D.C., all them
- 40:13Speaker 2: Congress plates, diplomatic plates or whatever it is that's pulling up,
- 40:16Speaker 2: that's the stroll.
- 40:17Speaker 1: At least it used to be the stroll.
- 40:18Speaker 2: I don't know if it still is, but pulling up
- 40:20Speaker 2: to pick them up off the street or whatever. If
- 40:22Speaker 2: you was really in the business of shutting them down,
- 40:24Speaker 2: you just set up over there and everybody knew what
- 40:25Speaker 2: it was, right? I don't know if TMZ is setting
- 40:30Speaker 2: up over there, but all I'm saying is it's out
- 40:32Speaker 2: there and people have kind of let stuff slide.
- 40:35Speaker 1: TMZ doesn't have to.
- 40:36Speaker 2: I'm not even necessarily talking about a giant scandal like that,
- 40:38Speaker 2: but just like you said, we're going to go find
- 40:40Speaker 2: people at.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Disney World or anything else. Now, at the same time,
- 40:43Speaker 1: I mean.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I feel like it's kind of like snow day, except
- 40:49Speaker 1: it's no snow. You know what I'm saying?
- 40:52Speaker 2: It's like the air conditioner broke at work.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, like, yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 1: The air conditioner's not broke at Disney World.
- 40:57Speaker 3: They are technically off.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Yeah, they're like, what you want me to do? We
- 41:00Speaker 1: just all supposed to be sad? And the answer is
- 41:02Speaker 1: kind of. Like, this is up there. I don't think
- 41:05Speaker 1: this is the same as Ted Cruz going to Cancun.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Yes, during the middle of a hurricane.
- 41:09Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:10Speaker 1: I don't know if this is exactly the same, but.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Hey man, whatever it is, TMZ being in this game
- 41:15Speaker 2: would shake me up if I was somebody not doing
- 41:18Speaker 2: what I should.
- 41:18Speaker 3: It's just wild. Cause you know, as they've clearly figured
- 41:23Speaker 3: out that very few things are more unpopular than Congress
- 41:27Speaker 3: and politicians. And that sort of rage, I'm sure drives
- 41:31Speaker 3: a lot of internet traffic.
- 41:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 41:33Speaker 3: And a lot of, you know, things to their business.
- 41:37Speaker 3: And you know, if we've learned anything in Washington, the
- 41:39Speaker 3: last 10 or so years, it's when unwritten rules start getting, uh, Broken? Yeah.
- 41:44Speaker 3: That's when things really start to get crazy.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Todo es posible.
- 41:48Speaker 3: All right, let's move on to AI. Microsoft had to
- 41:53Speaker 3: issue an interesting warning about its co-pilot program. They had
- 41:57Speaker 3: to say it's, quote, for entertainment purposes only, not for
- 42:01Speaker 3: serious use. Beau, what is your thought about this as
- 42:05Speaker 3: AI continues to permeate our lives?
- 42:08Speaker 2: Another thing that we're throwing out here that comes with
- 42:11Speaker 2: a warning label.
- 42:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 42:14Speaker 2: And look, I'm not I don't know if hypocritical is
- 42:17Speaker 2: the way to put this, but I don't deny this.
- 42:19Speaker 2: We've done advertising on this show for AI stuff. We
- 42:22Speaker 2: do advertising on this show for gambling, but I do
- 42:25Speaker 2: not deny it every turn. It comes with a warning label.
- 42:27Speaker 2: They put the warning label on it.
- 42:29Speaker 1: OK, we don't we don't have to lie about what's
- 42:32Speaker 1: going on here. But I don't. To be fair to
- 42:37Speaker 1: the AI people. I don't feel like they should have
- 42:40Speaker 1: to put a warning label on this, that we should
- 42:42Speaker 1: be just a little bit smarter. But we're not.
- 42:45Speaker 3: We're not.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Therefore, a label has to be put on it for
- 42:50Speaker 2: entertainment purposes. This is your idea of a good time?
- 42:54Speaker 4: Right. Right?
- 42:56Speaker 1: You see what I'm saying? Like, this is your idea
- 42:58Speaker 1: of a good time?
- 43:00Speaker 2: Good luck thinking that's going to spare you from liability
- 43:04Speaker 2: when it comes down to it.
- 43:12Speaker 3: All right, Bo, got some great voicemails as always. Here's
- 43:15Speaker 3: our first.
- 43:17Speaker 4: Shout out to Bo Mani and shout out to Ryan.
- 43:21Speaker 4: This is Yosef, longtime listener. Bo, if you remember back
- 43:27Speaker 4: in the day, ESPN had a 30 for 30 special
- 43:32Speaker 4: called Broke. We're talking about athletes, you know, spending money
- 43:36Speaker 4: on car washes and studios. So my question for you is,
- 43:42Speaker 4: Is Kirk Cousins going to get his own 30 for
- 43:45Speaker 4: 30 about getting teams to keep paying him like he's
- 43:50Speaker 4: Joe Montana or like the second coming of Patrick Mahomes?
- 43:59Speaker 4: Five years, $ 172 million from the Raiders?
- 44:03Speaker 1: Come on, Bo.
- 44:03Speaker 4: This man needs a 30 for 30 about how he
- 44:05Speaker 4: keeps going to the bank. Let me know what you think, man.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Y'all be good. Y'all be safe. Take care. And Dominique Foxworth,
- 44:16Speaker 4: I need you to clear your schedule. I need more
- 44:18Speaker 4: of you and Bo on the right time. Take care, fellas.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Bye.
- 44:23Speaker 2: All right, just so Dominique knows, we ain't telling him
- 44:28Speaker 2: to say that.
- 44:29Speaker 1: That's just the streets speaking.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Correct.
- 44:31Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying?
- 44:32Speaker 2: And also, to be fair on this Cousins deal, that's
- 44:35Speaker 2: number math. It's really just like a one-year deal.
- 44:37Speaker 3: But it's a one-year $ 20 million deal.
- 44:39Speaker 1: $ 20 million deal.
- 44:40Speaker 3: Guaranteed.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Keeps pulling this off. And it really came down to
- 44:46Speaker 2: franchise tag me. I ain't even tripping.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Right?
- 44:50Speaker 2: Like he just rode that out as far as it
- 44:53Speaker 2: would go.
- 44:54Speaker 1: And he got his money. He got his money.
- 44:57Speaker 2: He has been a much better quarterback than I ever
- 44:59Speaker 2: thought that it was possible that he could be.
- 45:02Speaker 1: But nobody has maxed out their earning potential quite like him.
- 45:09Speaker 2: He is a legend at the bank, and his agent
- 45:12Speaker 2: ain't even one of the famous agents. And that's where
- 45:15Speaker 2: my question comes down. How is everybody not trying to
- 45:18Speaker 2: get his phone number?
- 45:20Speaker 3: It's amazing. I think every contract he's had since the
- 45:23Speaker 3: last two years in Washington has been fully guaranteed.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Though he did an extension in Minnesota that.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Tweaked that out.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Got it.
- 45:32Speaker 2: But the bottom line is, fully guaranteed is a bit
- 45:36Speaker 2: overrated as a notion in the NFL.
- 45:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Like the NFL is the only place where somebody give
- 45:42Speaker 2: you $ 70 million all at one time.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Right.
- 45:45Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 45:45Speaker 2: And then it kind of goes from there. Like there's
- 45:47Speaker 2: an equilibrium at play with that market.
- 45:50Speaker 1: And I totally get it.
- 45:51Speaker 2: But the reality is when I was giving people hell
- 45:54Speaker 2: for giving Kirk Cousins too much credit 11 years ago
- 45:57Speaker 2: when he was throwing two interceptions a game, there was
- 46:00Speaker 2: no way in the world to think that he would
- 46:02Speaker 2: have made how much you think he'd have made so far.
- 46:04Speaker 3: I just looked it up. So I'm not I'm cheating.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Okay, don't ruin the surprise. No way.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:12Speaker 1: No way.
- 46:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Are you on spoke track?
- 46:15Speaker 3: I am on off the cap, but.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Okay, what number is off the cap giving you?
- 46:19Speaker 3: Off the cap is giving me 331.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Oh, wow. I only had 322. Yeah. Those are millions. Yeah.
- 46:28Speaker 3: That is third most all time behind Matt Stafford and
- 46:31Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers. What? All right, here's our next one.
- 46:41Speaker 5: Hey, Beau.
- 46:42Speaker 6: I know that you have been diving into the world
- 46:46Speaker 6: of uniquely named people, but I do.
- 46:48Speaker 4: Have a name-related question for you.
- 46:51Speaker 6: At what point is it acceptable for people to start
- 46:55Speaker 6: using the old folks' version of their name? I got
- 46:59Speaker 6: an email from a Cassie who is a law student,
- 47:02Speaker 6: and so she is still in her 20s, and I'm like,
- 47:05Speaker 6: I don't think you've.
- 47:05Speaker 4: Earned that yet.
- 47:06Speaker 6: So I would love your insight into at what point
- 47:11Speaker 6: does Bobby become Bob?
- 47:14Speaker 4: When does Billy become Bill? When does Catherine become Kathy?
- 47:19Speaker 3: Appreciate all you do.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I actually think a more interesting discussion there is shout
- 47:26Speaker 2: out to all those people who never change.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Shout out to my homeboy, Joey. He's still Joey.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Like, what does it take for you to just be like, no,
- 47:35Speaker 2: I'm just going to ride, like, this is who I am.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Like, you start off as a kid as Billy, you
- 47:40Speaker 3: don't become William.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:42Speaker 1: You just, yeah, don't become Bill.
- 47:43Speaker 2: You just, like, the real question is, you know what,
- 47:47Speaker 2: to what he proposed, and we don't do this anymore,
- 47:50Speaker 2: but he made it too broad. The question is, back
- 47:57Speaker 2: in the day, at what point did Richard Decide.
- 48:06Speaker 1: It's Dick. At what moment did you say, no, no, no.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Like, no, you couldn't just be like, he wasn't Dick
- 48:15Speaker 2: Vitale when he was 10.
- 48:19Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 48:20Speaker 3: I mean, to be fair, that was probably about 70
- 48:22Speaker 3: years ago. That's also true.
- 48:23Speaker 1: That's also true. In 1950, he might.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Have just been.
- 48:27Speaker 2: But at what point do you just decide, yeah, call
- 48:30Speaker 2: me Dick? Do you decide that for yourself? Or does
- 48:35Speaker 2: your personality dictate? Like, when did Dick Van Dyke, what
- 48:40Speaker 2: a whimsically named man who is not just still in
- 48:42Speaker 2: the league, but.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Still giving us about eight points a game off the bench.
- 48:46Speaker 3: 100 years old. Or 99, right around there.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Yeah, when did Dick Van Dyke, like, even though your
- 48:53Speaker 2: last name is Van Dyke.
- 48:55Speaker 1: You still went with Dick. When did you make that call?
- 49:00Speaker 2: And what day do people look around and be like, hey,
- 49:04Speaker 2: Ixnay on the it day.
- 49:05Speaker 1: I got to say, that was funnier than I expected.
- 49:11Speaker 3: That was very funny.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I didn't think it was going to be that good.
- 49:13Speaker 3: All right, here's our last one.
- 49:16Speaker 5: Hey this is Will from Oklahoma city. I think I
- 49:20Speaker 5: got a pretty good one for, you know, our, our
- 49:23Speaker 5: favorite subject. So a few days ago, my sweet 91
- 49:28Speaker 5: year old grandmother, she went to go be with the Lord.
- 49:33Speaker 5: And I went, I was, you know, trying to be
- 49:35Speaker 5: a good son. I went with my mom to go
- 49:37Speaker 5: to the funeral home, try and like, plants and stuff, whatever. Anyway,
- 49:44Speaker 5: the guy comes out with the render for the headstone,
- 49:49Speaker 5: and I realized I didn't know my grandmother's middle name,
- 49:53Speaker 5: which was Larisse. I don't know if this one totally counts.
- 49:59Speaker 5: I don't know any black Larisses either, but I saw
- 50:02Speaker 5: that capital R, and I just started grinning, thinking it
- 50:09Speaker 5: was the right time.
- 50:10Speaker 1: But, It's the Capitol, by the way.
- 50:13Speaker 5: Yes.
- 50:14Speaker 1: And, yeah, I know, Louris. Yeah, Louris, that's on the list.
- 50:23Speaker 2: I encountered a, I saw it written down somewhere, a
- 50:27Speaker 2: white Kamesha.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Who wishes to be called Kami. no chance.
- 50:43Speaker 2: You should have never told me i never would have
- 50:45Speaker 2: known if you hadn't said it but hey ladies and
- 50:50Speaker 2: gentlemen thanks so much for joining us here on the
