  John 8. To the Jews who had believed

  him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my

  teaching, you are really my disciples.

  Whoever belongs to God, hears what God

  says. The reason you do not hear is that

  you do not belong to God. Very truly I

  tell you, whoever obeys my word, he will

  never see death." Jesus says something

  in John 8 that should stop every
• 0:32
  Christian man in his track. He wasn't
• 0:34
  talking to atheists and he wasn't
• 0:36
  talking to his enemies. He was talking
• 0:38
  to people who believed in him. But
• 0:41
  belief isn't the finish line. Belief is
• 0:43
  the starting line. According to Jesus,
• 0:46
  real disciplehip has three marks. We
• 0:49
  believe his word. You seek him through
• 0:51
  his word. And then you obey his word.

  That's it. It's simple, but it's
• 0:55
  demanding. Throughout his ministry,
• 0:57
  Jesus keeps showing Israel that he is
• 0:59
  the fulfillment of everything God

  promised. The law appointed to him, the
• 1:03
  prophet spoke about him. But many missed
• 1:06
  him because the Messiah they wanted was
• 1:08
  not the Messiah who came. And that's the
• 1:11
  danger we still have today. Many men
• 1:14
  want a Jesus who saves but he doesn't
• 1:16
  command. A Jesus who forgives but never
• 1:19
  confronts. A Jesus who promises heaven
• 1:22
  but doesn't require obedience. But Jesus
• 1:25
  won't be reshaped to fit our
• 1:27
  preferences. He says plainly, "Whoever
• 1:29
  belongs to God hears what God says." If
• 1:33
  a man never opens his Bible, never
• 1:35
  submits to scripture, never changes how
• 1:37
  he lives, he needs to ask a hard
• 1:39
  question. Am I hearing God or just
• 1:42
  hearing myself? Even the devil believes.

  Belief without obedience has never
• 1:47
  produced eternal life. Jesus is not only
• 1:50
  savior, he is God and he is judge. So
• 1:54
  run today's play. Open God's word, not
• 1:57
  to feel inspired, but to be instructed.

  Listen for one clear command Jesus puts

  in front of you. Then obey it fully,

  immediately, and without excuse. Men who

  know their purpose submit to Christ. Men

  who trust God for provision walk in

  obedience. Men who get their priorities
• 2:14
  right hold to Jesus's word. Don't just

  believe in Jesus, be recognized as his
• 2:20
