- 0:03Speaker 1: It's a podcast call twenty fives Stocking fun Ball and
- 0:08Speaker 1: they are well WI, so, yeah, it's too bad, But
- 0:12Speaker 1: what did you expect?
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's a podcast called twenty five twenty line.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Hello, welcome everybody. Matt Overton is with us. Matt, how
- 0:22Speaker 1: many years do you play in the NFL?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Uh?
- 0:24Speaker 4: Ten? Credited seasons? And uh?
- 0:26Speaker 1: What do you mean credited?
- 0:27Speaker 5: So if you play three games or more in a season,
- 0:29Speaker 5: you get a credited season?
- 0:30Speaker 1: What if you play two?
- 0:32Speaker 4: Nope?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Did you did you have any seasons it weren't credited?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Yeah? Last year bears?
- 0:37Speaker 1: How many games?
- 0:38Speaker 4: Zero? Is on practice squad?
- 0:40Speaker 1: Oh? I get that?
- 0:41Speaker 4: You know?
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 0:41Speaker 4: Yeah, so practice.
- 0:42Speaker 5: Squad guys, you know they don't get credited seasons.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Does that work towards your pension?
- 0:45Speaker 4: Practice squad Nope?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Do you get pension though? Now after being ten credited year?
- 0:49Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 0:49Speaker 5: So after I believe after three years you get a pension.
- 0:54Speaker 5: When does that start?
- 0:55Speaker 1: What? Age?
- 0:56Speaker 4: Fifty five is the earliest?
- 0:58Speaker 1: Well used? Can you draw it to fifty five if
- 1:00Speaker 1: you want to?
- 1:00Speaker 4: Yeah, if you want to max it out, go to
- 1:02Speaker 4: sixty five?
- 1:03Speaker 1: Read Did you know he played in the NFL?
- 1:05Speaker 4: No, I'm just kidding. Yeah, I knew.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Okay, what sucked was before we get into sports. Uh.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Matt came over to the house yesterday and we played pickleball,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and I'm not used to playing good people. Drum me
- 1:17Speaker 1: the first two games, and then I drummed him the
- 1:20Speaker 1: next two and I was like, let's go, and then
- 1:22Speaker 1: he hed be. We tied it up in game the
- 1:24Speaker 1: game five, and then he I can't stop thinking about it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I've obsessed about it since it was over. And he
- 1:29Speaker 1: beat me going into deuce because we'd get the one
- 1:32Speaker 1: by two, and he beat me by two at the
- 1:33Speaker 1: very end, and I've been so pissed ever since. Anyway,
- 1:35Speaker 1: good to see you.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Well you're pissed, and I'm sorry, so are you?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Hey? That's good. Well, my body hurts me nickleball singles man,
- 1:40Speaker 1: that is where it's at. My ankles hurt, my feet,
- 1:43Speaker 1: hurt my knees, serves you right?
- 1:45Speaker 6: How long does five games last?
- 1:47Speaker 1: Well, so Reid was also playing a little bit, a
- 1:49Speaker 1: little bit What does that mean? So whoever won? Readun
- 1:53Speaker 1: play the next person so it's like winter stays up?
- 1:55Speaker 1: But then read how many games did you play yesterday? Overall?
- 1:58Speaker 4: Three?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Four?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:59Speaker 6: Yeah, probably three?
- 2:00Speaker 1: We get rid of re Read real quick and then
- 2:03Speaker 1: go back to playing each other. And so because this
- 2:05Speaker 1: is pretty competitive with us too, Read's getting better. Nice,
- 2:09Speaker 1: but we played for like hour and a half, but
- 2:13Speaker 1: it was like ninety five degree.
- 2:14Speaker 6: Yeah, that was gross out.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Man. Reid is a great motivator and a great coach. No, no,
- 2:18Speaker 1: this is the stupidest thing ever. Read is at my
- 2:20Speaker 1: house almost every day, and Read starts rooting for Matt
- 2:25Speaker 1: under his breath a little bit. But it started off
- 2:27Speaker 1: like yeah, yeah, then it was like oh yeah, and like, dude,
- 2:29Speaker 1: that sucks. You're supposed to be he never did that
- 2:31Speaker 1: for you, He should do it for me. We play it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: We're together every day, play each.
- 2:35Speaker 7: Other, and he just kills me every single time.
- 2:37Speaker 6: So he's like, yeah, somebody came over.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I would I would miss a shot and Read would
- 2:41Speaker 1: be like.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Like, oh man, I think he knew he was making noise.
- 2:47Speaker 6: Next stupid Did you ready merge baby, Matt?
- 2:51Speaker 1: When you were in the NFL, would you go to camp?
- 2:53Speaker 1: Would you go to o t as Yeah? Okay, so
- 2:55Speaker 1: you would do that before camp April through June, and
- 2:59Speaker 1: then we're OTA's mandatory or voluntarily voluntary, depends on who
- 3:04Speaker 1: you are you No?
- 3:05Speaker 4: So I had to go for sure.
- 3:07Speaker 5: So, yeah, the lone long snapper is not going to
- 3:09Speaker 5: be the guy that doesn't show up.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And usually there's only one on the roster, right.
- 3:13Speaker 5: Yeah, sometimes you'll compete against her younger guy or something.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Whenever the roster is set though there's only one long snapper. Yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 1: so what if you get hurt during a game? Is
- 3:24Speaker 1: there a back emergency snapper.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Of the time.
- 3:28Speaker 5: No, Sometimes they'll have somebody that's maybe done in the
- 3:31Speaker 5: practice a few times, and I mean very seldomly, So
- 3:35Speaker 5: you either had to have to just fight it out.
- 3:38Speaker 5: I mean, if you can physically walk, you you got
- 3:41Speaker 5: to go figure it out, you know. But if you
- 3:43Speaker 5: have a broken arm or a leg or acl whatever, yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 5: you're out and they got to they gotta find somebody
- 3:48Speaker 5: just to do it or they're going to go for
- 3:49Speaker 5: it on fourth down.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Well, and so that would be the question. I would
- 3:53Speaker 1: get a snapper for a field goal because you can
- 3:55Speaker 1: go for two. Yeah, you can go for it, but
- 3:58Speaker 1: if you're four worth and nineteen from your own twenty two.
- 4:03Speaker 4: You got to figure it out.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that suck you ever did you ever see that happen?
- 4:07Speaker 1: Whereas and Epper went down.
- 4:08Speaker 5: And myself, Yeah, I dislocated my shoulder in Jacksonville and
- 4:13Speaker 5: they had to put our fullback in who would do
- 4:16Speaker 5: it in practice maybe every now and then he would
- 4:18Speaker 5: do it. He was you know, he was okay. And
- 4:21Speaker 5: then they used our center for field goal.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Because he probably had a little experience.
- 4:26Speaker 5: A little bit of experience, you know, and you know,
- 4:30Speaker 5: it all worked out. But yeah, I went out put
- 4:33Speaker 5: on ir the next week. They had to figure it out.
- 4:35Speaker 5: We ended up winning the game, and uh, I think
- 4:38Speaker 5: it came down. It was a pretty close game. It
- 4:39Speaker 5: was against the Chargers, and uh, we needed like a
- 4:42Speaker 5: pivotal pat and they converted.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Was your first NFL game with the Colts?
- 4:49Speaker 4: Yep?
- 4:49Speaker 1: How long were you with the Colts?
- 4:51Speaker 4: Five years?
- 4:52Speaker 5: From the Colts? Then where did you go? Jacksonville for two,
- 4:55Speaker 5: then Titans for one?
- 4:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I forgot you played here.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Well was during the COVID. Everyone forgets that year.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I guess that's why.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Yeah, and then I went to the Chargers and then
- 5:04Speaker 5: Dallas and then last year spent the last week of
- 5:08Speaker 5: the season on practice squad with the Bears.
- 5:10Speaker 1: When they bring you in for the practice squad, what
- 5:12Speaker 1: do you even do I know, you practice, that's the
- 5:14Speaker 1: easy thing.
- 5:14Speaker 4: So their guy was hurt. They brought me in.
- 5:17Speaker 5: He didn't practice all week, and then I pretty much
- 5:19Speaker 5: did all the practicing for him, and and with the
- 5:22Speaker 5: intent that I would play if he couldn't go on Sunday.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And then he went, and then he went. Yeah, a
- 5:26Speaker 1: little bit where you like, come on, baby, don't go. No.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I wanted to play, for sure, but it's also you
- 5:31Speaker 5: get a lot of anxiety because you're you're preparing as
- 5:33Speaker 5: if you just don't know what's going to happen. So
- 5:35Speaker 5: it's like I'd rather know now if I'm going to
- 5:36Speaker 5: play or not and not lose sleep over the next
- 5:40Speaker 5: three days, you know, just kind of guessing and sitting
- 5:42Speaker 5: here like cause I'm I'm game planning and watching all
- 5:45Speaker 5: the film and watching everything. I'm trying to learn terminology, schematics,
- 5:48Speaker 5: what the Green Bay Packers are going to bring, all
- 5:51Speaker 5: that kind of stuff. And it was a big game
- 5:52Speaker 5: because the Packers needed to win that game to go
- 5:54Speaker 5: to the playoffs.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Last year, was there ever a trick play that involved
- 5:57Speaker 1: you that you never got to do? Like, can there
- 6:00Speaker 1: be a trick player for this? For the long snapper to.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Get the ball.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Yeah, or like we had in Indie, we had a
- 6:07Speaker 5: formation where I was the last man on the line
- 6:09Speaker 5: of scrimmage. I would report as an eligible receiver. I'd
- 6:12Speaker 5: snap it to McAfee. I would do like some kind
- 6:15Speaker 5: of vertical route.
- 6:16Speaker 6: Oh, that would be awesome.
- 6:17Speaker 4: We did it in practice.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, we always waited for all the time when that
- 6:21Speaker 1: ball was in the air.
- 6:21Speaker 4: I was shaking as I.
- 6:24Speaker 5: Because some you know, I think when a defense would aligned,
- 6:27Speaker 5: they would check out of some kind of you know, formation,
- 6:29Speaker 5: they would go safe and they probably wouldn't call. They
- 6:32Speaker 5: would forget to count the long. Then I got through
- 6:34Speaker 5: with the long snapper and then there I go out.
- 6:36Speaker 5: I'm free. The ball's drifting in the air for five
- 6:38Speaker 5: seconds and they're shaken. But I had my I had
- 6:41Speaker 5: my touchdown celebration ready, Like in my mind.
- 6:43Speaker 1: What would that have been.
- 6:44Speaker 5: I don't even remember what it was, but I remember
- 6:46Speaker 5: like just mentally preparing, like all right, if I get
- 6:48Speaker 5: this in the zone, I take it to the house.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I got to do something epic.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So that's gonna be one of those formations because again
- 6:54Speaker 1: last man on the line, which was used, so that
- 6:56Speaker 1: means everybody's on one side of you for the most part,
- 7:00Speaker 1: unless there's like a receiver's off the line on the left.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Again, it would be one of those things where I
- 7:04Speaker 5: snapped it to mcfeel was a punter at the time.
- 7:07Speaker 5: He would have to see that no one's covering me.
- 7:09Speaker 5: If not, he would check it down to somebody else,
- 7:11Speaker 5: or he'd run it himself. But I guess I'm saying, though,
- 7:12Speaker 5: how how you're lined up? If you're the last man
- 7:16Speaker 5: on the line.
- 7:17Speaker 1: That means, let's say, everybody's lined up to the right
- 7:19Speaker 1: of you, unless there's like a wide receiver that's off
- 7:22Speaker 1: the line.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Sure.
- 7:22Speaker 1: There.
- 7:23Speaker 5: Again, I'm awful with football schematics and what's eligible not,
- 7:28Speaker 5: but I just remember I had to report as eligible
- 7:31Speaker 5: last man in the line of scrimmage, and then whatever
- 7:32Speaker 5: everybody else is doing to my left, you know, they
- 7:35Speaker 5: had to be certain guys on and off the line.
- 7:37Speaker 1: That would be I would be waiting for that call,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and then when he called, I'd be like, holy crap.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I would be.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And you'd practice it how often we.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Had it installed for a few weeks.
- 7:47Speaker 5: We would always do it against a team who had
- 7:50Speaker 5: a legit returner like Antonio Brown, Tyreek Hill, so we
- 7:54Speaker 5: would go to that formation. They would check out of
- 7:56Speaker 5: their rush into a safe look. Some teams would do
- 7:59Speaker 5: two turners, so we would we would do that to
- 8:02Speaker 5: manipulate their rush. And again it would be obviously a
- 8:05Speaker 5: pivotal time where it's either least expected or we needed
- 8:08Speaker 5: a conversion, you know, to keep keep the offense on
- 8:11Speaker 5: the field. But then I was also a part of
- 8:14Speaker 5: the worst fake in NFL history too. If you remember
- 8:17Speaker 5: that against the Patriots, you probably remember that. Huh yeah,
- 8:20Speaker 5: I remember.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I'll tell I'll go them what I remember next, But
- 8:24Speaker 1: tell me about the worst fake ever.
- 8:26Speaker 5: All right, So we had planned this again. We're going
- 8:28Speaker 5: against Bill Belichick, Tom Brady. They're at our place. It's
- 8:31Speaker 5: like Sunday night football, Colts Colts. Yeah, and uh, you
- 8:36Speaker 5: know it was always our rival game, but when I
- 8:39Speaker 5: was there, we never beat them. This is you know,
- 8:41Speaker 5: I'm I'm the Andrew luckyra I'm not the Peyton Manning era.
- 8:44Speaker 5: So we always prepare. We we try to find some
- 8:47Speaker 5: sort of gimmick every single year, whether it's the offense,
- 8:49Speaker 5: defense or special teams. And this week it's special teams.
- 8:52Speaker 5: And we were we went out and lined up in
- 8:54Speaker 5: this formation, hoping that the we check out of their front,
- 8:58Speaker 5: and then our anticipation was that they would again miscalculate
- 9:03Speaker 5: who's eligible kind of stuff. So we go out there.
- 9:05Speaker 5: The entire week, we prepare I'm not the center. So
- 9:08Speaker 5: we go out there, we line up in normal punkformation,
- 9:11Speaker 5: we check out of it.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Everyone scrambles to the right.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Our PP, which is the personal protector, and one of
- 9:18Speaker 5: the gunners or so becomes center and quarterback and it's
- 9:23Speaker 5: it's a normal If you look at the play, it's
- 9:26Speaker 5: them two all by themselves on island and all of
- 9:28Speaker 5: the rest of us are on the right.
- 9:30Speaker 4: So the entire week they.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Got swinging gate. That's what I'm kind of picturing high school,
- 9:34Speaker 1: like a swinging gate type thing.
- 9:35Speaker 5: It was kind of one of it was it was
- 9:36Speaker 5: fourth and short, so it's one of those things where
- 9:38Speaker 5: if they only lined one guy up over that center,
- 9:40Speaker 5: you were going to get it. They were at a
- 9:41Speaker 5: hike k it and do get the yard. It'd be
- 9:44Speaker 5: like a QB sneak kind of thing. Well, the guy
- 9:47Speaker 5: that played center in the game didn't practice all week long,
- 9:51Speaker 5: so you know, before the game, guys get elevated they
- 9:54Speaker 5: get dropped down, you know, an hour before the game. Well,
- 9:57Speaker 5: this in particular person was healthy than have to play
- 10:00Speaker 5: the game.
- 10:00Speaker 4: We needed him.
- 10:01Speaker 5: The guy who practiced was either taking off of the
- 10:04Speaker 5: punt team or he didn't dress that game. So when
- 10:06Speaker 5: they went out there, we practiced that there was all
- 10:08Speaker 5: these dummy calls, you know, oh maha, omaha, all that
- 10:11Speaker 5: kind of stuff. Right, So when he heard that, he
- 10:14Speaker 5: thought it was I need to hike the ball.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Oh my god. So because he hadn't practiced.
- 10:19Speaker 4: He didn't he didn't practice it. So it was a
- 10:20Speaker 4: complete gaff.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Obviously, when you're playing Bill Belichick, they leave no stone unturned.
- 10:26Speaker 5: They covered it perfectly, and they hiked the ball and
- 10:29Speaker 5: just sacked my buddy Cole Anderson, who is now the
- 10:32Speaker 5: SPECSH teams coordinated for the Titans. And it has been
- 10:37Speaker 5: known as the worst watching it.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Okay, so okay, it it aunems like a swinging gate.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So everybody moves over to the right. There's just simply
- 10:43Speaker 1: a center and a guy behind him. There are three
- 10:46Speaker 1: guys still up on the line, so there's no way
- 10:47Speaker 1: that he's just going to be able to snap it too.
- 10:49Speaker 1: The one guy. There's no way he's going to get
- 10:50Speaker 1: the yards. Everybody's to the right the center. Now, oh
- 10:54Speaker 1: my god, Oh that's dead. So Colet who gets the ball?
- 10:57Speaker 5: He was he wasn't expecting to get the ball because
- 10:59Speaker 5: you were never supposed to snap it. We're going to
- 11:01Speaker 5: take a time out or delay a game.
- 11:02Speaker 1: He was like, what the crap?
- 11:04Speaker 6: Yeah, at least he didn't fumble.
- 11:06Speaker 5: But and that was that was a big momentum ship
- 11:08Speaker 5: of the game because I think we're winning at the time,
- 11:11Speaker 5: maybe by three, and then they go score right away
- 11:14Speaker 5: and then lights up from there.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Dank the play that I remember because I'm I'm a
- 11:18Speaker 1: big Matt Overton fan. I was so pumped when you
- 11:21Speaker 1: were going to the Cowboys because one, I just would
- 11:23Speaker 1: always be super excited wherever you would go. I see, like,
- 11:25Speaker 1: I'm you know, fly to Jacksonville, mess be like let's go, yeah,
- 11:28Speaker 1: you know, or when you're going to the Cowboys, like
- 11:30Speaker 1: that's freaking awesome. And Eddie and Mike are big Cowboy fans.
- 11:34Speaker 1: But like your first was your first snap of Dallas?
- 11:36Speaker 1: Was that not a good snapp? Am I right here?
- 11:37Speaker 1: Or was everything? No?
- 11:38Speaker 4: It was a good snap, it just wasn't at the
- 11:40Speaker 4: right time.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I guess that'd be a premature, that would be okay.
- 11:43Speaker 4: So in my book, it was a perfect snap.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And just so what happened there because you were new
- 11:48Speaker 1: to the team, was it you you I don't know,
- 11:51Speaker 1: did you not know or was it just nerves or what?
- 11:54Speaker 4: No.
- 11:54Speaker 5: I honestly when you go on the Philly kind of blackout.
- 11:57Speaker 5: But in the moment, you know, leading up, I got
- 11:59Speaker 5: signed on a Wednesday.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I thought, I remember it was super quick.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Yeah, their guy I got put on IR I got
- 12:03Speaker 5: signed on Wednesday. So I practiced maybe two times with
- 12:06Speaker 5: the team leading.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Up to that game.
- 12:08Speaker 5: We did a lot of stuff off the side with
- 12:11Speaker 5: you know, the kicker and the punter and the field
- 12:13Speaker 5: goal operations and whatnot. And I just remember it was
- 12:17Speaker 5: the first drive of the series. We get a sack,
- 12:20Speaker 5: strip fumble recovery to the house. So again I'm on
- 12:24Speaker 5: the bench, so I'm just kind of chilling because the
- 12:26Speaker 5: defense on the field, and that's typically.
- 12:28Speaker 4: What specialists do in the defense on the field.
- 12:29Speaker 5: You just chilling and uh, momentum shift, you know, sudden change.
- 12:35Speaker 5: I run out there, Grandma, Hemel ran out there to Pat.
- 12:38Speaker 5: I just remember getting out there. I'm friends with Jalen Ramsey.
- 12:40Speaker 5: I was on the Rams practice squad the week before,
- 12:43Speaker 5: so I go out there and I'm kind of just
- 12:45Speaker 5: staying what's up to the guys. I get it getting
- 12:46Speaker 5: my stance, and again, it's all about timing. It's all
- 12:49Speaker 5: about you know, how how long it takes this the
- 12:51Speaker 5: kicker to get into his you know, his progression pre
- 12:54Speaker 5: pre kick.
- 12:55Speaker 1: And I just remember getting my stance.
- 12:57Speaker 5: I'm in my stands for like two or three seconds
- 12:59Speaker 5: and I don't know if I saw a hand movement
- 13:01Speaker 5: or something like that, and I just premature snap. It
- 13:03Speaker 5: hit him right in the face mask. So that was
- 13:06Speaker 5: my first play as a Dallas cowboy. Not good, Hey,
- 13:08Speaker 5: then it was a good snap. If you didn't mind
- 13:10Speaker 5: the face mask, then it was.
- 13:11Speaker 1: A perfect No, it was. It was a dime, dude.
- 13:13Speaker 1: So then what do they say? You're the new guy?
- 13:15Speaker 5: You come off so obviously I'm like super Just Coarp
- 13:18Speaker 5: said and and whatnot, and I'm like, how could this
- 13:21Speaker 5: be my very first impression as a Dallas cowboy?
- 13:23Speaker 1: You know, it was a pat not a huge deal,
- 13:25Speaker 1: but still, what do they say to you?
- 13:27Speaker 5: Oh, dude, Mike McCarthy and Coach Bones especially teams coordinator,
- 13:31Speaker 5: one of the best coordinators in NFL. He's incredible. But
- 13:36Speaker 5: they were. They were super calm and collected. I had
- 13:38Speaker 5: nobody like in my face, you know whatever, and then
- 13:42Speaker 5: went from there and then everything was smooth sailing.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Are you tight the second time? Do you think about
- 13:46Speaker 1: the first time?
- 13:47Speaker 5: Like, man, that first one, I mean, yeah, you gotta,
- 13:49Speaker 5: you gotta, you mean you gotta have a very short
- 13:52Speaker 5: term memory for sure.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I would not have that like, but I was more.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I was more worried about it. Piste up and beat
- 13:58Speaker 1: me a pickleball yesterday. I have no short term member.
- 14:00Speaker 5: I was more worried about my first interaction with the
- 14:03Speaker 5: boss man, Jerry Jones.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Jerry Jones.
- 14:05Speaker 5: The next week he comes out in his jumpsuit and
- 14:09Speaker 5: talking to the specialist, and that was my first time
- 14:11Speaker 5: actually officially meeting him, and I was like, oh, man, dude,
- 14:16Speaker 5: I hope he doesn't remember my first play as a
- 14:17Speaker 5: Dallas cowboy. But you know, he was a good dude
- 14:20Speaker 5: and never said anything and just kind of business usual.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Move on to the next one.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Was it pretty cool being a cowboy?
- 14:26Speaker 4: It was.
- 14:27Speaker 5: It was very cool. It's iconic. Man, It's like being
- 14:29Speaker 5: a Yankee, Like.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I think it's probably really cool to make the NFL
- 14:32Speaker 1: and you have a really cool underdog story of how
- 14:34Speaker 1: you made the NFL. But yeah, I like being a Yankee,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and I'm not a Yankees fan. I'm not really a
- 14:39Speaker 1: Cowboys fan, but it would be really cool to be
- 14:42Speaker 1: a Cowboy because that's like that it'd be like a
- 14:45Speaker 1: packer or like these brands that are synonymous with like
- 14:50Speaker 1: old school NFL that have existed and thrived for so long.
- 14:54Speaker 5: I mean, I grew up a nin Er fan, so
- 14:56Speaker 5: my ten year old self would hate the fact that
- 14:58Speaker 5: I become a Cowboy one day. But going there, it
- 15:01Speaker 5: was just like you know, you go to the Star,
- 15:03Speaker 5: you go to Jerry's world. You see just how everything
- 15:06Speaker 5: is ran as an operation, as a business, as an organization.
- 15:10Speaker 5: I mean, you wouldn't believe like the difference from the
- 15:13Speaker 5: Tier ones to the Tier threes in the NFL.
- 15:15Speaker 1: That's what's crazy to me is so I went. I
- 15:18Speaker 1: filled in for rich Eisen for a couple of shows
- 15:20Speaker 1: in LA and the massive set up and their producer
- 15:23Speaker 1: will come over and be like, hey, here are these notes.
- 15:25Speaker 1: They just released all of the food trainers family, all
- 15:31Speaker 1: the grades that the players would give each organization, and
- 15:34Speaker 1: so I was reading through them, I was so surprised
- 15:36Speaker 1: that certain teams would get And I'm not going to
- 15:38Speaker 1: mention any teams because i know this season you're open
- 15:41Speaker 1: to playing again this year, So we won't mention any
- 15:43Speaker 1: teams because I don't want you to say anything about
- 15:44Speaker 1: a team.
- 15:45Speaker 5: I'm not afraid to say anything because reality everyone knows this.
- 15:48Speaker 1: So there would be f's for certain people for like food,
- 15:52Speaker 1: and I'm like, what NFL team would not give perfect
- 15:56Speaker 1: food to the gladiators. They need to be in the
- 15:58Speaker 1: best physical condition. Someone be c minus treating families. So
- 16:02Speaker 1: that's when it really hit me that everything's not the
- 16:05Speaker 1: same even in the NFL.
- 16:06Speaker 5: I'll give you an example. So you know, I've played
- 16:08Speaker 5: for five different organizations. They've all been great. I've all
- 16:12Speaker 5: had an incredible experience everywhere I go. But I'll give
- 16:15Speaker 5: you a perfect example of facilities. So the rams they're
- 16:18Speaker 5: literally in it looks like a middle school.
- 16:22Speaker 1: It's all mobile, Like, what do you mean they're in it? Well,
- 16:25Speaker 1: so they're on the campus. They're on the campus of
- 16:28Speaker 1: Cal Lutheran, so they're kind of up on the hill
- 16:30Speaker 1: of Cal Lutheran for what though, like daily practice.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the that's their home facility.
- 16:35Speaker 5: They have two outdoor or three outdoor fields and it's
- 16:37Speaker 5: all modules every week.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You're not camp you're talking about.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Yeah, they're they're they've been there ever since they moved
- 16:43Speaker 5: to la Oh my god.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 5: So you go to an organization like that that not
- 16:48Speaker 5: to say they don't have money, but because they do,
- 16:50Speaker 5: and they they're going to eventually build a facility. But
- 16:52Speaker 5: you go there, it feels like you're in a middle
- 16:54Speaker 5: school classroom and it's all modules put together to kind
- 16:58Speaker 5: of configure this you know, facility. Right, there's no indoor
- 17:03Speaker 5: practice field. Everything's outdoors.
- 17:07Speaker 6: In the weight room.
- 17:08Speaker 5: The weight rooms is kind of indoor outdoor kind of
- 17:12Speaker 5: set up little thing. And then you go somewhere like Seattle.
- 17:15Speaker 5: It's on Lake Washington. They got all the all the
- 17:20Speaker 5: glitz and glamor. You go to Dallas, you go to
- 17:22Speaker 5: you know, the Star everything. It's like you're walking into
- 17:24Speaker 5: a hotel.
- 17:24Speaker 1: It's like built specifically for the NFL team that's there,
- 17:28Speaker 1: as opposed to like the rams where they just kind
- 17:31Speaker 1: of had to find a place that worked, but it
- 17:33Speaker 1: already existing.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Well, you'll see because when I was in LA with
- 17:36Speaker 5: the Chargers, they were in a like industrial complex and
- 17:41Speaker 5: you would never know it's there because it's kind of
- 17:43Speaker 5: hidden back there.
- 17:43Speaker 4: It's it's two stories.
- 17:45Speaker 5: It's it's just like you're in a normal office building
- 17:48Speaker 5: and you just have you just have three fields outside.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Next right next to Ikea is the and then you're
- 17:54Speaker 5: gonna go see their brand new bolt facility. Got it,
- 17:57Speaker 5: and it's gonna be the Kremla Krempley. It's gonna be
- 18:00Speaker 5: the best new facility in the NFL.
- 18:03Speaker 1: There would be an I'm not I don't remember if
- 18:05Speaker 1: it was the Cardinals or not, but I'll use the
- 18:06Speaker 1: Cardinals as example, Like the Cardinals got some really bad grades.
- 18:10Speaker 1: They would be like, and I will say I have
- 18:13Speaker 1: been lucky enough now that I've been kind of it's
- 18:16Speaker 1: I would not say toe but dipping my knee down
- 18:19Speaker 1: into the sports world for a few years now again
- 18:21Speaker 1: where I've gotten to know some college athletes that now
- 18:24Speaker 1: play in the pros and they will say to me,
- 18:26Speaker 1: at our university, it was so much better than it
- 18:29Speaker 1: is in the NFL.
- 18:30Speaker 4: There's no question.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Clows my mind. Yeah, because that's not how we think
- 18:33Speaker 1: of it. We think everything moves up your NFL, you're
- 18:35Speaker 1: making money. That to me is crazy that the facilities
- 18:38Speaker 1: where they need to be better aren't always better. And
- 18:40Speaker 1: mostly is that because ownership is not wanting to spend
- 18:43Speaker 1: the money and invested in that part of the organization.
- 18:45Speaker 5: Probably so, or it's all it's all about logistics, you know,
- 18:48Speaker 5: Like Indianapolis has had the same facility for thirty years.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Now, eventually they would like to go somewhere else.
- 18:53Speaker 5: But it's like, you know, they got to find the land,
- 18:55Speaker 5: they gotta find the permitting, they got to get the money,
- 18:57Speaker 5: they gotta whatever, you know. But you know, for LA,
- 19:00Speaker 5: for the Chargers, moving the San Diego is a big
- 19:02Speaker 5: deal and it just took them what five years to
- 19:05Speaker 5: find the land where they want to relocate, and they
- 19:07Speaker 5: it took them three years to build and now they're
- 19:09Speaker 5: going to go. But some teams, I guess, like Cincinnati, Yeah,
- 19:12Speaker 5: they they just finally they just finally got an indoor facility.
- 19:15Speaker 5: They were outside, Yeah, under the freeway.
- 19:18Speaker 1: In the Midwest, under a freeway. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I think has anything to do with recruiting, Like universities,
- 19:23Speaker 3: I'm saying, oh, well, one that's got to be the
- 19:26Speaker 3: main component why, that's.
- 19:28Speaker 5: Why, that's why Jacksonville shot Con over there. One of
- 19:31Speaker 5: the best owners in the league has put so much
- 19:32Speaker 5: money into Jacksonville because for the longest time, they could
- 19:35Speaker 5: never recruit any of the top tier free agents. Obviously
- 19:38Speaker 5: there's a benefit of going there because of the no
- 19:41Speaker 5: state income tax thing.
- 19:42Speaker 4: But when people would visit.
- 19:44Speaker 5: There five ten years ago, they're like, why would I
- 19:46Speaker 5: ever want to come here when there's nothing here for me,
- 19:48Speaker 5: Like there's no the facilities stink, and shot CON's like,
- 19:51Speaker 5: we got to change that.
- 19:52Speaker 1: So and I think, and I could be wrong. College
- 19:55Speaker 1: were you referring to college recruit?
- 19:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't even think.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But the NFL recruit, and they have to do the
- 19:59Speaker 1: same thing. Agency, Oh big time. If it's even and
- 20:03Speaker 1: everything's even, like proximity, whatever's important to you because you
- 20:06Speaker 1: know and Madden, you know, I pick. You knows only
- 20:10Speaker 1: come to me because yeah, you're gonna pick if everything's even,
- 20:13Speaker 1: You're gonna pick the place that makes you most comfortable.
- 20:15Speaker 5: Well, and then you you add the family grade. You
- 20:17Speaker 5: mentioned the family grade. One of the biggest things, too,
- 20:19Speaker 5: is is childcare at the games. There's a ton of
- 20:22Speaker 5: families have young kids. The hardest thing to do is
- 20:24Speaker 5: to go to a game with two or three of
- 20:26Speaker 5: your kids, mainly babies. It's like, I'm not gonna sit
- 20:29Speaker 5: in the stands, you know, with my child on my lap.
- 20:32Speaker 5: I would like to enjoy the game. Yeah, sometimes the
- 20:34Speaker 5: kids want to be there. But some teams offer childcare
- 20:37Speaker 5: d in the game, like Dallas did. But then some
- 20:39Speaker 5: teams don't. And I think that's where that grade comes in.
- 20:42Speaker 5: You know, you go to these other teams that offer
- 20:43Speaker 5: those kinds of things and really extend their arms out
- 20:46Speaker 5: to the family, like, hey, we got this, we got
- 20:48Speaker 5: the women's groups. You can uh, the wives and girlfriends
- 20:51Speaker 5: can come to we got all this, we had date
- 20:52Speaker 5: nights set up for them, we got all these things.
- 20:54Speaker 5: And then some teams just like kind of don't cater
- 20:57Speaker 5: towards that. And I think, you know, our wives play
- 20:59Speaker 5: a mass role and a lot of these decisions, especially
- 21:02Speaker 5: with big free agents. You know, if if their wife
- 21:05Speaker 5: and the kids don't feel comfortable going there, they're going
- 21:06Speaker 5: to go somewhere else that they do.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Is that part of the overall culture too That could
- 21:11Speaker 1: actually be negative for a team, meaning if the culture
- 21:16Speaker 1: is not good. The team usually isn't good. And a
- 21:19Speaker 1: lot of these places that have bad culture, it's because
- 21:21Speaker 1: it's the culture. A lot of the culture was built
- 21:24Speaker 1: poorly by the owners before it even gets to the coaches,
- 21:27Speaker 1: meaning if there aren't resources, sure, yeah, absolutely, they aren't
- 21:29Speaker 1: happy players. And then you get a coach and that
- 21:31Speaker 1: also maybe isn't a big culture that all that could compound,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and it just turns into an organization that doesn't win. Yeah,
- 21:38Speaker 1: I mean consistently and money talks.
- 21:39Speaker 5: A free agent is going to go chase the money, right,
- 21:42Speaker 5: But sometimes those guys that go sound the big deals
- 21:44Speaker 5: you never hear of them again.
- 21:45Speaker 1: You know, crazy. Let's do the Tittletown. I'm I kid
- 21:53Speaker 1: it for me, the tittle Tonne.
- 22:02Speaker 3: After the NFL announced the no surprise on side kick rule,
- 22:05Speaker 3: do you think fans being angry is justified or overreaction.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I think fans are gonna be angry about anything that's
- 22:10Speaker 1: ever announced in the history of announcements when it comes
- 22:12Speaker 1: to sports or changes. And Matt, I'll be curious to
- 22:16Speaker 1: hear your feedback on this. But the new rules are
- 22:19Speaker 1: on side kicks are illegal before the fourth quarter. Now,
- 22:23Speaker 1: this is not even the surprise part. This is a
- 22:24Speaker 1: new on side kick role. No on side kicks before
- 22:27Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, which, by the way, I went to
- 22:28Speaker 1: the Super Bowl in Miami whenever it was the same
- 22:31Speaker 1: breeze Breeze and the Colts they came out and freaking
- 22:34Speaker 1: on side kicked that thing immediately halftime game. Yeah, like,
- 22:37Speaker 1: I like that. It's not so much that I'm gonna
- 22:39Speaker 1: get irritated about it, but I like that on side
- 22:41Speaker 1: kicking at any time. But okay, I'm not. That doesn't
- 22:44Speaker 1: upset me. Teams have to be losing to kick an
- 22:48Speaker 1: on side kick. That's not gonna change anything. For the
- 22:50Speaker 1: most part. You don't have teams up thirteen trying to
- 22:52Speaker 1: kick an onside kick anyway to give them good field
- 22:54Speaker 1: position to get back in the game. Okay, not gonna
- 22:56Speaker 1: affect much. But they have to announce their intention. There
- 23:00Speaker 1: are examples of intention announcing. For example, like Matt was
- 23:03Speaker 1: talking about, you have to go check in if now
- 23:07Speaker 1: you can catch a pass in your alignment. I mean,
- 23:09Speaker 1: we saw in Detroit last year in the playoffs whenever
- 23:11Speaker 1: he's like, I freaking said, I'm checking in the game
- 23:14Speaker 1: and they had to call the playback. Remember that, Yeah,
- 23:16Speaker 1: I was against the Cowboys. Yes, big game, and so
- 23:20Speaker 1: there are very few surprise on side kicks where all
- 23:23Speaker 1: of a sudden the guys next to the kicker runs
- 23:26Speaker 1: up and does the little The NFL is doing a
- 23:29Speaker 1: lot of this stuff for safety reasons. I don't think
- 23:31Speaker 1: it affects the game. I think fans just want to
- 23:33Speaker 1: be mad. On side kicks suck anyway because they can
- 23:39Speaker 1: say fourteen percent of them work. I never see them
- 23:42Speaker 1: work when it matters. If it's an onside kick, it's
- 23:44Speaker 1: a game's over. And I practice them on Madden and
- 23:46Speaker 1: I still can't even get them to work on Madden.
- 23:49Speaker 1: So fans want to be angry, but none of them
- 23:52Speaker 1: will be affected by this. I've only in my life
- 23:54Speaker 1: a couple of times ever seen that Super Bowl. I
- 23:57Speaker 1: saw it and I was there, and that was awesome,
- 23:59Speaker 1: although I was rooting for the Colts. But no one
- 24:02Speaker 1: winning kicks an on side kick for the most part.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And then also, okay, announcing intentions is not a new thing.
- 24:10Speaker 1: When alignment is now eligible, he has to go and
- 24:12Speaker 1: be like, I can now catch the ball. I will
- 24:15Speaker 1: be the last person on the line. I'm cool with
- 24:18Speaker 1: that too. Most times people know when the on side
- 24:20Speaker 1: kick is coming. Those are my thoughts, Matt.
- 24:23Speaker 5: I mean, I don't Yeah, you're you're right on the
- 24:25Speaker 5: success rate as far as on side kicks go, But
- 24:29Speaker 5: I mean there's there's you kind of eliminate, you know,
- 24:33Speaker 5: the game plan structure. I mean when I was with
- 24:35Speaker 5: the Colts, the rules have changed quite a lot on
- 24:38Speaker 5: kickoffs since. I mean, obviously we have a new kickoff
- 24:41Speaker 5: rule this year, which I think is very very good.
- 24:43Speaker 4: I think it's going to be really really.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Good and exciting and like not just a waste play.
- 24:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's gonna be really really good. But
- 24:49Speaker 5: the element of surprise is gone, you know what I'm saying.
- 24:52Speaker 5: And there's teams that they come out in certain return formations.
- 24:56Speaker 4: You know.
- 24:57Speaker 5: McAfee is a perfect example. We had like three converted
- 24:59Speaker 5: on side kicks that year. We were three three for
- 25:02Speaker 5: three in those prize or yeah, absolutely, yeah, And that
- 25:05Speaker 5: was happened in the second quarter, right after we had
- 25:07Speaker 5: a big score.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Something would go out there.
- 25:08Speaker 5: Obviously we're out there because we're kicking, but uh, you know,
- 25:12Speaker 5: based off of formation, he'd find some gaps in the
- 25:14Speaker 5: alignment and he would call it.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Could he call it himself? Yeah?
- 25:19Speaker 5: If he saw, if he saw, I mean you see
- 25:21Speaker 5: you see the highlights. I mean he did a dribble
- 25:22Speaker 5: up the middle, there was nobody there. He got himself.
- 25:24Speaker 6: Oh that one, ye, yeah, I have too.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Is it risky though, because if it doesn't work then
- 25:29Speaker 1: you just freaking called it. And now they have great
- 25:30Speaker 1: film like that's ballsy to call that right.
- 25:32Speaker 5: Well, sure, but you put it on your kicker, you know,
- 25:35Speaker 5: and if you trust him, then let him make the call.
- 25:37Speaker 6: How many times did he want to call it?
- 25:38Speaker 1: Oh? Every time? It's like if I were a punter,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I'd want to throw it every time.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:42Speaker 1: How many kickers percentage wise or you know, actually have
- 25:49Speaker 1: the confidence from their coach to get on the line
- 25:51Speaker 1: and call, hey, we're going to do an onside here.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Do you think it's many?
- 25:54Speaker 4: Well?
- 25:55Speaker 5: So most of the kickoff guys are punters actually, so
- 25:58Speaker 5: a lot of the punters are doing the kickoffs now
- 26:00Speaker 5: to save the leg of the kicker. But I would say,
- 26:04Speaker 5: you know, Tucker's probably or or Buckner or I mean
- 26:08Speaker 5: some of the OG's in the league probably have.
- 26:10Speaker 1: That authority for sure, but no more than five.
- 26:12Speaker 4: No, I would say, yeah, you you uh, you give
- 26:15Speaker 4: Tucker he can go out there and do whatever he wants.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Yeah, he can do whatever. Yeah he picked up throwing
- 26:20Speaker 1: up in there and catching himself and do a little
- 26:21Speaker 1: dances of all time? Do you think do you think
- 26:25Speaker 1: Tucker Tucker v. Venitari greatest kicker of all time?
- 26:29Speaker 5: I mean stats wise Tucker, but longevity clutch kicks.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Yeah, the clutch kicks does it for Venetaria.
- 26:37Speaker 5: I mean Vinitary hands down, not even a question. I
- 26:40Speaker 5: mean you talk about all the massive iconic kicks in
- 26:43Speaker 5: New England, the Snow Game, Oh, the super Bowl winning kicks,
- 26:48Speaker 5: the big kicks in Indie.
- 26:49Speaker 4: I mean he played twenty two years.
- 26:51Speaker 5: I mean Tucker, he you know, Vinitary has the most
- 26:54Speaker 5: points scored record right now. I mean Tucker's gonna surpass that.
- 26:58Speaker 5: I mean, the dude's gonna play another ten years, you know,
- 27:01Speaker 5: and he's got a massive leg.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Both Hall of famers. By the way, there's no question,
- 27:06Speaker 1: no question the new kickoff rule where XFL was using it.
- 27:13Speaker 1: We've explained it a couple of times. But now like
- 27:15Speaker 1: the Chiefs, for example, are going, hey, I don't think
- 27:16Speaker 1: we're going to use a kicker for this, yep, because
- 27:19Speaker 1: we need a tackler but you need somebody who can
- 27:21Speaker 1: kick and can also play. What do you think is
- 27:26Speaker 1: happening with this? Do you think there's gonna be a
- 27:27Speaker 1: lot of experimentation that's not really going to be able
- 27:29Speaker 1: to happen until the games actually happen, because it's not
- 27:31Speaker 1: like something you run and practice like openly to get
- 27:34Speaker 1: real feel well.
- 27:35Speaker 5: Sure, but you know Eric Reid has game experience already,
- 27:38Speaker 5: So there's a safecick. But other teams and they're gonna
- 27:42Speaker 5: they're gonna try to emulate what they're gonna do in
- 27:44Speaker 5: Kansas City for sure.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Do you think more teams will try to?
- 27:46Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 27:46Speaker 5: Well, because the thing is you don't have you can't
- 27:48Speaker 5: kick the ball at the end zone no more. You
- 27:50Speaker 5: got to you gotta kick it like with within what
- 27:52Speaker 5: the goal line and tied you're online m hm.
- 27:54Speaker 4: You know.
- 27:54Speaker 5: So if you can get somebody that could just pop
- 27:56Speaker 5: it over there forty yard kick whatever it is, you know,
- 27:59Speaker 5: and and get some hangtime and then you could be
- 28:01Speaker 5: that extra guy that goes in there and makes a tackle.
- 28:04Speaker 4: I mean, I think a lot.
- 28:05Speaker 5: Of teams are gonna you don't want you, you don't
- 28:07Speaker 5: want your kicker going there and trying to make a
- 28:08Speaker 5: play because I think there's going to be a lot
- 28:10Speaker 5: of really good returns because of the new rule.
- 28:13Speaker 1: It's going to be like an offensive play. It's like
- 28:16Speaker 1: a substitute offensive play because again, the lines are going
- 28:19Speaker 1: to be closer together. There's going to be almost a
- 28:21Speaker 1: definite return every time, and that kicker and the receiver.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Let's say everything's equal and those ten are blocking those ten. Well,
- 28:32Speaker 1: if it's the kicker on the receiver, you know who's
- 28:34Speaker 1: going to lose every time, the kicker. So you need
- 28:37Speaker 1: someone who can. But it's going to be really interesting
- 28:40Speaker 1: like the first six weeks, because there's not years and
- 28:42Speaker 1: years of film on this that you can look at
- 28:44Speaker 1: analytics and go, well, if we kick it here and
- 28:47Speaker 1: to this person and we run this, it's going to
- 28:49Speaker 1: be wild for the first few weeks. I cannot wait.
- 28:52Speaker 5: I think it's the best rule change they've made in
- 28:54Speaker 5: a very long time.
- 28:56Speaker 1: That and I think the pat I'm over it. It's easy.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I like they moved it because people do miss it
- 29:00Speaker 1: a little bit now, but it's like go for two
- 29:04Speaker 1: or you get the one.
- 29:05Speaker 5: What's funny is that they eliminated the two at the
- 29:08Speaker 5: two yard line. The pat but still they paint that
- 29:10Speaker 5: stripe out there.
- 29:12Speaker 4: I don't get it.
- 29:12Speaker 1: I never thought about that.
- 29:13Speaker 6: So wait, they don't put the ball there when they
- 29:15Speaker 6: go for two?
- 29:15Speaker 1: Wait go for two? Oh? I guess you're right, but
- 29:17Speaker 1: I thought my mind was blown out when you go
- 29:21Speaker 1: for two? Can you can you select a hash or
- 29:23Speaker 1: you can do a hash?
- 29:23Speaker 6: I think right?
- 29:25Speaker 1: So the ball is not always spotted right there on
- 29:26Speaker 1: the old pat mark the line. Let's start that next up,
- 29:30Speaker 1: all right?
- 29:30Speaker 3: With tired Hill being the only receiver to get a
- 29:32Speaker 3: ninety nine and Madden, do you think they got it right?
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yeah? I also could have seen Justin Jeffson getting in
- 29:37Speaker 1: ninety nine. I looked at all the ratings yesterday, or
- 29:39Speaker 1: at least of the skill the wide receivers, because they
- 29:42Speaker 1: released these in bunches, and then they give the ninety
- 29:45Speaker 1: nine guys like they get a ninety nine guy like
- 29:47Speaker 1: trophy like plaque Madden deaths. It's really cool. And you
- 29:51Speaker 1: know I'm gonna say this, I've played Madden every year.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I love Madden. I'm so on n C double A
- 29:58Speaker 1: I have I have no interest. NC DOUBLEA is such
- 30:01Speaker 1: a better overall game, same makers, So that's cool for
- 30:05Speaker 1: EA Sports, and the gameplay is probably five percent. It's
- 30:10Speaker 1: very little less than what Madden's gameplay is. But the
- 30:14Speaker 1: elements surrounding it with nc DOUBLEA, the recruiting, which is
- 30:19Speaker 1: a big part of the game, the Bowl, the college
- 30:21Speaker 1: football playoff, the moving conferences to It's awesome. It's awesome.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Ncuba football is awesome. So I did watch this. I'm
- 30:29Speaker 1: not paying near as much attention as I usually would.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I think Tyreek ninety nine is deserved. He can fly.
- 30:36Speaker 1: He's definitely one A, B or C in the best
- 30:39Speaker 1: wide receivers Juste Jefferson, Jamar Chase, Tyreek Kill and I
- 30:43Speaker 1: think Devanta Adams would be there, but he can't get it.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Might have given the ball to prove it anymore. CD Lamb,
- 30:46Speaker 1: Doug respect See and CD Lamb got a ninety six.
- 30:51Speaker 1: But same thing with CD to a bit like Dak
- 30:55Speaker 1: and you played there, so you definitely win the argument.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I feel like one, they didn't have a they haven't
- 31:00Speaker 1: had a number two like Brandon Cooks. He's probably not
- 31:03Speaker 1: performed to the level they expected him to when they
- 31:05Speaker 1: got it from Houston. He can This year. I think
- 31:08Speaker 1: he'll have a real great opportunity to do so and ceedee,
- 31:10Speaker 1: Lamb is great, but I feel like he doesn't get
- 31:13Speaker 1: the ball enough to actually show how great he is
- 31:16Speaker 1: because they're always bracketing him. He's bracketed constantly. Yeah, and
- 31:21Speaker 1: so it's hard to get a ninety nine when you
- 31:23Speaker 1: can't really prove you're a ninety nine. But guy, dang
- 31:25Speaker 1: he does. He's awesome, which is why he wants to
- 31:28Speaker 1: be the highest paid player, not a quarterback, in history.
- 31:32Speaker 1: But so does Michael Parsons. And they're both wanting that
- 31:35Speaker 1: same money. And the Cowboys are gonna have three players
- 31:38Speaker 1: if that happens.
- 31:39Speaker 4: They gotta figure it out. Yeah.
- 31:40Speaker 1: So to answer your question, Justin Jefferson was a ninety eight.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Bump them up one home, give them the trophy. You
- 31:46Speaker 1: have a shortage of trophies. You don't give him a
- 31:47Speaker 1: ninety nine trophy. I mean, did you watch Netflix's Receiver.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Got kind of bored. I got kind of bored with
- 31:52Speaker 1: the quarterbacks.
- 31:53Speaker 5: No, I think it's better than the quarterbacks stays. Justin
- 31:56Speaker 5: Jefferson sat up for like six games and still got
- 31:59Speaker 5: over at the was in yards receiving.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Amon Ross Saint Brown, the fact that
- 32:03Speaker 1: he because he's in ninety five he had like, of
- 32:06Speaker 1: course that step ribs into his lung.
- 32:08Speaker 6: Yeah, they talk about that.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Yeah, And so the fact that he still was able
- 32:12Speaker 1: to play that well, Like, I don't think he's a
- 32:14Speaker 1: ninety nine. Don't get me wrong, he does. He hasn't
- 32:15Speaker 1: deserved it. Ninety nine is you need to do it?
- 32:18Speaker 1: But I would have said you could have given it
- 32:21Speaker 1: to Tyreek and Justin Jefferson. Think about Jamar Chase, he
- 32:24Speaker 1: was only ninety three, Like are they doing that? Yes,
- 32:28Speaker 1: but they didn't have their boy yesterday last year to
- 32:31Speaker 1: get engagement. Come on ninety three though.
- 32:33Speaker 6: They had just done during the season, don't.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Yeah, but you don't get the trophy. You're missing the
- 32:36Speaker 1: point everyone wants to try. They do bring you the
- 32:38Speaker 1: trophy later if you if it's you get if you
- 32:40Speaker 1: get hit ninety nine official, it's week four, they bring
- 32:43Speaker 1: you the trophy. You get a briefcase, right, and it's
- 32:45Speaker 1: like a yeah, and it's got like a Madden ninety
- 32:47Speaker 1: nine rating. I think though, I would have been cool
- 32:50Speaker 1: with any of those three having it. Tyreek deserves it,
- 32:53Speaker 1: although he's getting older and he's getting a lot of
- 32:55Speaker 1: people pregnant allegedly. Yeah, a lot of different a lot
- 33:00Speaker 1: of people, But yeah, I'm good with it. The nineties
- 33:03Speaker 1: and I think still I think Devont d. Adams is
- 33:07Speaker 1: so freaking good and so strong. He just has nobody
- 33:11Speaker 1: to get him. The ball still doesn't Yeah, still doesn't.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Gardner Minshew, although he's a dog. Yes, I was gonna
- 33:19Speaker 1: say they didn't bring Gardner. Got fortunate that he got
- 33:24Speaker 1: was able to play a bunch last year. It is
- 33:25Speaker 1: unfortunate for Franthony Richardson obviously, but Gardner had a really
- 33:28Speaker 1: good year Pro Bowl right in the Indian up making
- 33:30Speaker 1: the Pro Bowl.
- 33:30Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know if he was slated as
- 33:32Speaker 5: a Pro Bowl. He was an addition to the skills.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Game in the but I think he in the end
- 33:37Speaker 1: was one of the He was considered a Pro bowler. Yeah,
- 33:39Speaker 1: I think back when people backed out, I got it
- 33:42Speaker 1: doesn't matter in ten years, No he doesn't. He's a
- 33:44Speaker 1: pro bowler.
- 33:45Speaker 4: No, no, No one could take you away that away
- 33:46Speaker 4: from you, buddy.
- 33:47Speaker 1: And I think that makes him if you were to
- 33:49Speaker 1: tear him out, I would put him above a Daniel Jones.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Oh like Malite Neighbors is going to be really good
- 33:57Speaker 1: as a rookie with the Giants. I think he would
- 34:00Speaker 1: be freaking awesome if he had somebody that could get
- 34:03Speaker 1: on the ball consistently. But I think that's Devontay Adams.
- 34:06Speaker 1: The problem I think in his window is closing was
- 34:09Speaker 1: he got two three more years of being dominant getting
- 34:13Speaker 1: back up to New York. Aaron Rodgers, I don't play
- 34:16Speaker 1: together again.
- 34:17Speaker 3: You could tell he wants to do it in that
- 34:19Speaker 3: Netflix documentary. He wants to do it for like the Raiders,
- 34:22Speaker 3: or like you could tell he was a fan obviously
- 34:24Speaker 3: growing up. I believe yes, And you could just tell
- 34:26Speaker 3: it's just like, dude, it's okay to just let go.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Like you had. You had the minute there that was
- 34:30Speaker 1: really cool. Yeah, you got to go play with the Raiders,
- 34:32Speaker 1: your team.
- 34:32Speaker 6: You're a good person.
- 34:33Speaker 1: But he also wanted to go play with car right.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Wasn't that a big part of it too, as his
- 34:37Speaker 1: boy from prison. Yeah, that was part of the reason
- 34:39Speaker 1: that he also wanted to go to the Raiders. But
- 34:41Speaker 1: god dang, I would hate to play for the Raiders.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I wouldn't.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Nobody cares. The fan base is all people from out
- 34:47Speaker 1: of town and then like a little section.
- 34:49Speaker 5: Yeah, but there it's a strong fan base man. It's hostile,
- 34:53Speaker 5: kind of like coming over to your house yesterday playing
- 34:55Speaker 5: pick a ball.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I walked to the hostile territory.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Rought it up again.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Well, he was like yelling at his fans, and I
- 34:59Speaker 1: was like, dude, there's literally no around us and I'm
- 35:02Speaker 1: getting beat, So stopping you little, I have him stop
- 35:05Speaker 1: thinking about it. I was so pissed. We played a
- 35:07Speaker 1: good game five and it went to double and I've choked.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I choked at the end, and I don't choke. Sometimes
- 35:12Speaker 1: I will be beat because I was not up to
- 35:14Speaker 1: the moment. I was not prepared. I do not have
- 35:17Speaker 1: the skills. I choked yesterday, and I hate that about
- 35:20Speaker 1: me because I'm not a choke.
- 35:21Speaker 4: That's the way I played it. I made you make
- 35:22Speaker 4: the mistakes.
- 35:23Speaker 6: He did well you Bill belichicked him.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Well he comes out too, and he's playing and
- 35:26Speaker 1: he's like next he plays mascot. He's a professional apthet
- 35:29Speaker 1: and he's good. Yeah, and I'm just not ready for
- 35:31Speaker 1: somebody good. So he just puts it on me Game one,
- 35:34Speaker 1: like puts his foot on my neck. Was not prepared.
- 35:38Speaker 1: He showed up with Oh here's a trip, Oh here
- 35:40Speaker 1: we go. He showed up without a paddle, and I'm like, oh,
- 35:43Speaker 1: this guy, he sucks to him have his own paddle.
- 35:45Speaker 1: He doesn't bring it. But when someone shows up. If
- 35:47Speaker 1: it's like somebody shows up, I'm playing basketball and you're
- 35:49Speaker 1: wearing bowling shoes, You're like, this guy he ain't playing.
- 35:52Speaker 1: No boy showed him bowling shoes. Yeah, and then he
- 35:54Speaker 1: takes his bowling shoes off and his last name is
- 35:58Speaker 1: James l On James. You're like, oh, I guess that's
- 36:01Speaker 1: who he was, freaking lebron a pickle wall.
- 36:03Speaker 4: I also used the broken paddle too.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I think he broke it though it was defective. I
- 36:07Speaker 1: think years he swung and missed a couple of times
- 36:10Speaker 1: and he's like I did a couple of times, but
- 36:12Speaker 1: he beat me. And I can't stop thinking about it.
- 36:14Speaker 1: And he was like doing the crowd thing and there's
- 36:16Speaker 1: no crowd, and I was like, stop, you pissed me off.
- 36:18Speaker 1: That what was funny about both of us though, And
- 36:21Speaker 1: I noticed this about Matt, and Matt is a very skilled,
- 36:25Speaker 1: trained professional athlete, and I am skilled and trained at
- 36:28Speaker 1: not being a professional athlete. But we both constantly talk
- 36:32Speaker 1: to ourselves as we play oh yeah.
- 36:35Speaker 6: Out loud or like to yourself or middle.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Mid out loud. I mean I could hear him like
- 36:40Speaker 1: saying like okay, and me, I'm constantly reminding myself of Okay,
- 36:45Speaker 1: if you're tired, do your feet did it? And I
- 36:48Speaker 1: could hear him doing it. And I don't feel so
- 36:50Speaker 1: crazy because I do that. I do that constantly. Why
- 36:52Speaker 1: do you do that?
- 36:53Speaker 5: I had some three Ninjas quote yesterday. He did concentration
- 36:56Speaker 5: on strength and we're both like talking to ourselves in corner.
- 37:00Speaker 5: Is like competing, like.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Okay, I know you're tired, but you need to you
- 37:02Speaker 1: need to move, make sure your feet are moving. Don't
- 37:05Speaker 1: don't Because he would he was I think my cardio
- 37:08Speaker 1: is a little better than his. I think he's a
- 37:09Speaker 1: better athlete than me. Hope not offended by that, No, brother,
- 37:13Speaker 1: I was exhausted and he would like bend down and
- 37:18Speaker 1: like rest in between points, and like a boxer, I
- 37:21Speaker 1: would just stand up. I would stand up. I wasn't
- 37:23Speaker 1: an inside. I was tired, but I was like, I'm
- 37:25Speaker 1: standing up back like nothing's boding. I was dead on
- 37:28Speaker 1: the inside too, like a boxer. They won't sit down, yeah,
- 37:31Speaker 1: and the other guy's like sitting down he's all hurt,
- 37:33Speaker 1: even though the guys standing up hurt too, but he's like,
- 37:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna stand up. Showman. Ain't effect him.
- 37:36Speaker 6: That did that get to you at all? Met Like
- 37:37Speaker 6: did you look at him over like.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I usually would turn him back to him and bend down.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Nothing affects him. Don't worry, I got we got another
- 37:44Speaker 1: match coming up. All right, go ahead?
- 37:46Speaker 3: Speaking of receivers, still, who do you think will have
- 37:48Speaker 3: the best year on a new team.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I'm interested to see what Diggs does with the Texans.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I think that's fun. I think C J. Stroud is awesome.
- 37:58Speaker 1: And I say that so reluctantly because I just it
- 38:00Speaker 1: was hard for me to watch a rookie continue to
- 38:02Speaker 1: just crush it because I'm like, eventually the rookies syndrome
- 38:05Speaker 1: is gonna catch up, going to catch up. Rookie coach,
- 38:08Speaker 1: rookie quarterback. Diggs has a history of being from what
- 38:12Speaker 1: I know and from what I've seen on television, problematic.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Don't know him, only see what he did with Josh Allen.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Only see some of the stuff in Minnesota, so I'll
- 38:21Speaker 1: be anxious to see what he does there. But he's
- 38:24Speaker 1: freaking awesome as a wide receiver. That to me is
- 38:27Speaker 1: interesting to see the Bears and you know, I guess
- 38:31Speaker 1: say Keenan Allen and DJ Moore just got paid. By
- 38:33Speaker 1: the way, Yeah, a lot Keenan Allen with the Bears,
- 38:36Speaker 1: but more so with the Bears. That's like with Romba
- 38:38Speaker 1: Doonsday with Keenan Allen, with DJ Moore with Cole Comet
- 38:41Speaker 1: with that is not so much about him. It's just
- 38:45Speaker 1: about how that dynamic is going to work with possibly
- 38:48Speaker 1: the best built team for a rookie that I've ever seen,
- 38:51Speaker 1: with Kayleb Williams coming in and by the way, this
- 38:54Speaker 1: will come out on Friday, so tonight actually, which will
- 38:57Speaker 1: be last night if you're listening the Hall of Fame game.
- 39:00Speaker 1: And I believe and he may, but I don't think
- 39:02Speaker 1: Caleb Williams was playing, right they said he's not playing.
- 39:04Speaker 4: Nope.
- 39:05Speaker 1: So Keenan Allen's interesting because I think he was really good.
- 39:08Speaker 1: It was underutilized when he was over in California because
- 39:11Speaker 1: they he was hurt a lot, or Justin Herbert didn't
- 39:15Speaker 1: have all his ribs, you know, there were Justin Herbert
- 39:17Speaker 1: was hurt a lot. Jerry Judy is interesting and that
- 39:20Speaker 1: he's only interesting if the Deshaun Watson get to the
- 39:22Speaker 1: ball the Browns he never to me never really was
- 39:27Speaker 1: able to thrive as a Bronco. But then who was
- 39:30Speaker 1: able to get him the ball to give him a
- 39:33Speaker 1: bunch of opportunities like who is his best quarterback? Right Wilson? Probably? Yeah?
- 39:40Speaker 1: And he had Russell had what two years? One was terrible,
- 39:43Speaker 1: one was pretty good only because of and he whenever
- 39:48Speaker 1: Sean went on with and had the coach.
- 39:49Speaker 6: And I think him and Sean Payton but had a lot.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Calvin Ridley I would like to see do well with
- 39:54Speaker 1: the Titans because we're here. It would be nice see
- 39:56Speaker 1: the Titans win. You know, I'm gonna encourage him to
- 40:00Speaker 1: off DraftKings.
- 40:01Speaker 6: Probably a good idea.
- 40:02Speaker 1: And ready let's stay off the gambling apps. Probably good idea.
- 40:05Speaker 6: Now, Will Levis, so, I mean, can you get him
- 40:06Speaker 6: the ball?
- 40:08Speaker 1: I've seen him in person at Vanderbilt. They look nice?
- 40:10Speaker 1: Probably not? You know why I think probably not? Because
- 40:14Speaker 1: they just haven't. And after a long time, when someone hasn't,
- 40:18Speaker 1: even if it's not fair.
- 40:18Speaker 3: You just go, I bet it ain't gonna work until
- 40:20Speaker 3: it does, and then I doubt it, but then it
- 40:22Speaker 3: doesn't and you're like, I have.
- 40:24Speaker 1: No faith in will Levis, not because anything Levis related.
- 40:26Speaker 1: I watched him in Kentucky, and in Kentucky is pretty good,
- 40:29Speaker 1: and he's got a cannon for an arm And it's
- 40:31Speaker 1: not even about Will Levis unfairly, I've just seen it.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Look at Mariota's coming in. He's gonna be awesome. Tannehill
- 40:38Speaker 1: had a really good early start change coordinators. Then it
- 40:42Speaker 1: didn't go so well. They changed it off for them,
- 40:44Speaker 1: scheme a little bit. I would like to see Calvin
- 40:46Speaker 1: Redley do well. The other receiver probably Mike Williams in
- 40:51Speaker 1: the New York with Aaron Rodgers. That's a good one.
- 40:55Speaker 1: That might be the dark horse. That's what he's talking about.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I was not even gonna mention that one.
- 40:59Speaker 4: I was trying to think of.
- 41:00Speaker 1: I'll say, well, the Chiefs, right, So the Chiefs other
- 41:03Speaker 1: than Xavior, who's a rookie, Marky's Brown's there, but I
- 41:08Speaker 1: mean they have I don't know what they're going to do.
- 41:10Speaker 1: And the Chiefs are the worst team to have wide
- 41:12Speaker 1: receivers on your fantasy team because you could have Marquess Scantling,
- 41:16Speaker 1: Valdez Scantle, Neil Thirds that every and every player has
- 41:18Speaker 1: a hash mark in their name for the Chiefs basically,
- 41:22Speaker 1: so I'd probably go Digs. I'm most interested in just
- 41:25Speaker 1: to see because I mentioned in the Texans, to see
- 41:28Speaker 1: if they can continue, because a rookie coach and a
- 41:31Speaker 1: rookie quarterback. And to win a playoff game, not just
- 41:33Speaker 1: to make the playoffs, to win.
- 41:34Speaker 2: A playoff game, that's wild, that's crazy, and that's I
- 41:45Speaker 2: didn't think about it.
- 41:46Speaker 1: That Aaron Rodgers, if he's good. And Mike Williams, Mike
- 41:50Speaker 1: Williams is a freaking baller baller. Is he too old though?
- 41:53Speaker 4: Now?
- 41:54Speaker 5: No, he just got to stay healthy. I mean, look
- 41:55Speaker 5: at all the receivers they have in New York. I mean,
- 41:57Speaker 5: you have Wilson. I don't even know who else they have,
- 42:01Speaker 5: but they have a lot of options. So if Mike,
- 42:02Speaker 5: if Mike Williams can say healthy, he's that big body
- 42:04Speaker 5: in the red zone. He's a deep threat. He can
- 42:07Speaker 5: go up and catch a ball over any any dB.
- 42:10Speaker 5: I mean in La, him and Keenan Allen ballers.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Ballers and and one of them seemed to always be hurt.
- 42:17Speaker 4: Yeah, unfortunately.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Yeah. The cool thing about Garrett Wilson's we have no
- 42:21Speaker 1: idea how good he is in the NFL because he
- 42:22Speaker 1: hasn't had anybody to get in the ball.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Yeah, did you see the video of him and Rogers
- 42:26Speaker 3: going out a little bit?
- 42:27Speaker 1: I was gonna say, like, Rogers, like you out and
- 42:29Speaker 1: he's like no, and then they go at it and
- 42:32Speaker 1: then at the end I think they're pretty cool. They
- 42:34Speaker 1: were cool with it, and Rogers you could tell He's like,
- 42:37Speaker 1: I'm the boss And what was cool? Was it? Wessell's
- 42:42Speaker 1: like no, no, no, I'm going to stand my ground
- 42:44Speaker 1: and then you know they fived it, maybe just because
- 42:47Speaker 1: there were cameras on them, but how often does that?
- 42:50Speaker 1: What are the rules on fighting with a teammate because
- 42:54Speaker 1: it was not going to be a fight, but a disagreement.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Will you cover your mouth look away at times if
- 43:01Speaker 1: you're mouthing while the game is happening so people can't see,
- 43:04Speaker 1: Like how do you navigate that? Because at times things
- 43:06Speaker 1: need to be said on the field that aren't fun
- 43:09Speaker 1: to have to say, but you publicly don't want to
- 43:12Speaker 1: have people see it.
- 43:15Speaker 5: I think the public perception like screw it if you're
- 43:18Speaker 5: if you are the franchise quarterback, but.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Let's say no quarterback because I agree because I've seen Pyton,
- 43:22Speaker 1: even jeff Saturday and clips. Right, sure it does.
- 43:24Speaker 5: If you are a leader on a team, whether you're
- 43:26Speaker 5: a d lineman like Jeffrey Simmons, anybody that's you know,
- 43:31Speaker 5: just a bona fide pillar of that team you have.
- 43:34Speaker 5: I mean, if there's no accountability and the leader doesn't
- 43:37Speaker 5: show that, that's when the culture and the team stinks.
- 43:41Speaker 5: So I love it when guys step up and they
- 43:43Speaker 5: get mouthy on the sideline or in the locker room
- 43:45Speaker 5: at halftime.
- 43:46Speaker 4: You have to have that.
- 43:46Speaker 1: It's all lot. Don't mind that, But I mean, like publicly,
- 43:49Speaker 1: it's gonna be such a big story. Yeah, but who cares.
- 43:51Speaker 1: It's it's sports. We're all competing here.
- 43:52Speaker 5: That's like I think, if you just eliminate, who cares
- 43:54Speaker 5: what the media says or what the clip is gonna say,
- 43:56Speaker 5: the viral meme whatever.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Like if you're big time players.
- 44:01Speaker 5: Allow things to go on swept under the rug, whether
- 44:04Speaker 5: it's a drop pass or a route that's not ran
- 44:07Speaker 5: the right way, or a miscommunication on defense, Like I mean, dude,
- 44:11Speaker 5: you have to have those tough conversations and call each
- 44:13Speaker 5: other out. I mean, that's that's then that's how you
- 44:15Speaker 5: get better.
- 44:16Speaker 1: I'd scream it. You know how pictures put the glove
- 44:20Speaker 1: over their mouth and then yell like it. They don't
- 44:23Speaker 1: want the empire or the fans or the other team
- 44:25Speaker 1: to see what they're saying. Not so much of hiding,
- 44:27Speaker 1: but if they're pissed, they don't want to be taken
- 44:28Speaker 1: out of the game. And you can see their head
- 44:30Speaker 1: bop it up and down, but you can't see their mouth.
- 44:32Speaker 1: What I would do if I were playing, let's say
- 44:34Speaker 1: our wide receiver and I pissed it, you know, a
- 44:36Speaker 1: slot guy from missing a block. If I'm whatever, I'd
- 44:39Speaker 1: get a baseball glove on the football field and put
- 44:41Speaker 1: out of my mouth and didn't do that.
- 44:42Speaker 6: It's a good idea, somebody to just carry one around
- 44:45Speaker 6: my mouth.
- 44:46Speaker 1: And then you want to know that's how all right?
- 44:48Speaker 1: One more question less?
- 44:49Speaker 3: Well in here some high expectations on the Bears. Do
- 44:51Speaker 3: you think the NFC or AFC North is the better division?
- 44:56Speaker 1: I want to stop saying, and I'm just going to
- 44:58Speaker 1: say it before I do this. I annoyed when people go, well,
- 45:01Speaker 1: if this person stays healthy, that's for every player ever,
- 45:06Speaker 1: that's a quarterback or one of the ballers for any team,
- 45:09Speaker 1: like if you're the number one or two offensive out
- 45:11Speaker 1: team or defensive guy, that's always the case. So when
- 45:15Speaker 1: Joe Burrow is talked about it, if he stays healthy,
- 45:17Speaker 1: he hasn't hurt a bunch. But until last year, Lamar Jackson,
- 45:20Speaker 1: if he stays healthy, Saquon didn't ge hurt all last year.
- 45:24Speaker 1: If he said, I want to eliminate, just so everybody knows,
- 45:26Speaker 1: I'm eliminating if he stays healthy. I'm assuming everything is even,
- 45:30Speaker 1: because every quarterback can get hurt, or no quarterbacks can
- 45:33Speaker 1: get hurt, or random quarterbacks could get hurt. So I'm
- 45:37Speaker 1: eliminating if he stays healthy, mostly like Burrow gets hurt
- 45:41Speaker 1: a bunch, Lamar until last year, all that so AFC
- 45:45Speaker 1: North loaded Vikings are interesting. I think Sam Donald was
- 45:50Speaker 1: going to have a good year. I think Sam Donald
- 45:52Speaker 1: is an extremely serviceable quarterback who has very who has
- 45:55Speaker 1: shown very little touch, cannon of an arm, pretty smart
- 46:00Speaker 1: guy and has weapon justin Jefferson Addison like he has.
- 46:06Speaker 1: And think about what he had with the Jets, think
- 46:08Speaker 1: about what he was the Panthers like, It's not like
- 46:11Speaker 1: he was in a system because the best quarterbacks draft
- 46:13Speaker 1: to go to the worst teams. It's not like he
- 46:14Speaker 1: fell into a place where they were all these weapons
- 46:17Speaker 1: and they're not asking him to do anything except show up,
- 46:21Speaker 1: play pretty good, get JJ McCarthy hopefully next year a
- 46:27Speaker 1: nice little spot. I think the best thing to do
- 46:29Speaker 1: would be McCarthy just said the bench all year. Because
- 46:31Speaker 1: Sam Donald's playing pretty well, I think the Vikings can
- 46:34Speaker 1: be a nine, nine and eight. I think they can
- 46:39Speaker 1: do that nine and eight if Sam Donald plays decent.
- 46:41Speaker 1: The Packers. Jordan Love balled out of his brains the
- 46:44Speaker 1: second half of last year. Just got a deal, Matt.
- 46:47Speaker 1: My question for you about a deal. If a player
- 46:48Speaker 1: gets a big deal, can it go both ways? Or
- 46:52Speaker 1: which way does it normally go? Do they feel more
- 46:53Speaker 1: comfortable and free since they've just got a big deal
- 46:56Speaker 1: for four or five years, or do some players go
- 46:57Speaker 1: like I just got paid, like I'm not and as
- 47:00Speaker 1: much time getting ready for crap.
- 47:02Speaker 5: Well, you know, regarding Jordan Love, I think you know
- 47:06Speaker 5: he's earned the position. He sat behind, you know, Aaron
- 47:10Speaker 5: Rodgers for a couple of years. I think he went
- 47:14Speaker 5: through a strenuous I mean, he being drafted in the
- 47:17Speaker 5: first round to go behind Aaron.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Rodgers drama and the drama with a lot of.
- 47:21Speaker 5: Drama with that, he went through that. He's so he
- 47:23Speaker 5: essentially he's been through the fire. He's when you go
- 47:25Speaker 5: to the Packers, you're expected to win. It's different if
- 47:28Speaker 5: you're going to Carolina where they don't expect to win.
- 47:31Speaker 5: So when you're drafted in an organization where you expect
- 47:33Speaker 5: to win, there's always that pressure. So he's already been
- 47:35Speaker 5: through the pressure of everything. He's earned that contract. I
- 47:39Speaker 5: think he's just going to keep getting better. There's no
- 47:41Speaker 5: question about it.
- 47:41Speaker 1: If you and I don't.
- 47:42Speaker 5: I don't see him as the prima donna guy who's
- 47:45Speaker 5: now going to get comfortable and not care.
- 47:46Speaker 1: And does that happen with some what for sure? Don't
- 47:51Speaker 1: we don't see that. We are still in our mast
- 47:53Speaker 1: Somebody makes a bunch of money.
- 47:54Speaker 4: NFL, they go get the bag every day.
- 47:57Speaker 1: They want to prove why because.
- 47:59Speaker 5: Let me tell you this, a lot of guys in
- 48:00Speaker 5: any professional sports, there's a group of guys in that
- 48:03Speaker 5: locker room that love to play the game for the
- 48:05Speaker 5: passion and desire to be a champion. And then you
- 48:09Speaker 5: got another and probably a smaller group of guys who
- 48:13Speaker 5: they don't love football. They're just doing it to get
- 48:15Speaker 5: a paycheck. And when they get that bag, they're good.
- 48:19Speaker 5: They don't care if they get cut, they don't care
- 48:21Speaker 5: if they don't play.
- 48:23Speaker 3: But isn't there so much like money not guaranteed in
- 48:25Speaker 3: the NFL and football in general?
- 48:27Speaker 6: It's not like basketball football.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Yeah, the signing bonus, right is the is the big deal,
- 48:31Speaker 5: and there's some front loaded money. A lot of guys
- 48:33Speaker 5: try to structure those contracts and agents structure those compacts
- 48:35Speaker 5: where it's front loaded, and most of those guys never
- 48:39Speaker 5: play out that full contract.
- 48:40Speaker 1: You know, everyone's, oh my gosh, two hundred million dollar.
- 48:43Speaker 1: But I mean it's not basketball baseball.
- 48:45Speaker 5: Yeah, some of those guys never play that whole thing out,
- 48:47Speaker 5: and some of that's backloaded money, you know.
- 48:50Speaker 1: So Vikings, I think they can be nine and eight packers.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I think they can win eleven games. It's weird too
- 48:56Speaker 1: with seventeen games. Let's just get eighteen because all off,
- 49:01Speaker 1: let's give him two bye weeks, he give him three.
- 49:02Speaker 1: I don't give a crap. I need it to be
- 49:04Speaker 1: even number of games. Give him four by week. I
- 49:06Speaker 1: don't care the off number. I think the Packers can
- 49:09Speaker 1: win eleven games. The Lions could win the freaking Super Bowl.
- 49:17Speaker 1: The Bears, we're just doing NFC North here. The Bears.
- 49:20Speaker 1: I don't know, but there's never been a like ibra Flus.
- 49:25Speaker 1: He has to win, even it's a rookie quarterback. Yeah,
- 49:28Speaker 1: and with other coaches, Oh, rookie quarterback, we'll give him
- 49:30Speaker 1: some spirit. But this team is set up right now.
- 49:32Speaker 1: And I was surprised ibra Flues lasted from last year
- 49:36Speaker 1: to this year. And he's a defensive coach, right, is it?
- 49:39Speaker 1: Abra Flus defensive?
- 49:40Speaker 4: And they have a good defense.
- 49:42Speaker 1: But defensive coaches with star quarterbacks rarely make that perfect
- 49:48Speaker 1: combination that like Andy Reid and Pat Mahomes, like Reid
- 49:52Speaker 1: has been there to kind of walk my homes through
- 49:54Speaker 1: all of it. Belichick though, defensive guy, right, yeah, I
- 49:58Speaker 1: mean that's one with that you can kick me in
- 50:00Speaker 1: the nuts on. But most of these these guys, like
- 50:02Speaker 1: the Shanahans, like these offensive coaches, when they get a
- 50:05Speaker 1: star offensive quarterback and it's such an offensive league, like
- 50:08Speaker 1: those relationships develop into better quarterbacks. I don't know what
- 50:11Speaker 1: the Bears are gonna do, but I like the Bears
- 50:14Speaker 1: that whole division could have a winning record, yeah, which
- 50:18Speaker 1: would be different than like the NFC South and the
- 50:20Speaker 1: FC South combine, which already No.
- 50:21Speaker 5: I I'm gonna say the AFC South is gonna be
- 50:24Speaker 5: the toughest division in the league.
- 50:26Speaker 1: AFC set in the AFC. Okay, look, I think I think.
- 50:31Speaker 1: I think the Titans are going to be competitive more
- 50:33Speaker 1: than the Bengals, the Steelers, the Ravens, and the Browns,
- 50:36Speaker 1: which all again could have winning records.
- 50:39Speaker 4: I think the AFC South is right there too. I
- 50:41Speaker 4: really do.
- 50:42Speaker 1: I love Trevor Lawrence. I don't know if you love
- 50:46Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence. I love Trevor Lawrence, don't know him, never
- 50:48Speaker 1: met him. I love Trevor Lawrence.
- 50:50Speaker 4: I'm biased.
- 50:51Speaker 5: I mean, I played for three of those Titans, but no,
- 50:53Speaker 5: I really do they all have franchise quarterbacks. Anthony Richardson
- 50:56Speaker 5: I think is a game changer. I think he's gonna
- 50:59Speaker 5: he's gonna really developing.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Limited limited sample size here though, right, but what he
- 51:04Speaker 1: showed loves to run, what he showed us what was awesome.
- 51:07Speaker 1: I loved watching him play. But he lowers his head
- 51:09Speaker 1: into people. You can't do that. Josh Allen was that
- 51:12Speaker 1: was the big thing with Josh Allen, like, yeah, you
- 51:13Speaker 1: can run everybody over, but eventually youre gonna run over
- 51:15Speaker 1: so many people that you're gonna take them.
- 51:16Speaker 4: Well. Sure, and I think he learned from that really quick.
- 51:18Speaker 1: But what about Anthony Richardson. He's a baller.
- 51:21Speaker 4: The ceiling is very high for that.
- 51:22Speaker 1: I agree, cann't agree more. Anthony Richard one hundred and
- 51:25Speaker 1: fifty pounds.
- 51:26Speaker 6: I know, have you seen him in person?
- 51:29Speaker 4: I have.
- 51:30Speaker 1: I saw him on a gas linebacker.
- 51:32Speaker 4: He's bigger than Will Levis, for sure. Levis.
- 51:35Speaker 1: So I was watching Trevor. Let me answer your question
- 51:39Speaker 1: here AFC North Bengals Steelers. The Steelers are gonna have
- 51:41Speaker 1: a terrible season one. Mike Tomlin doesn't lose Doug I
- 51:44Speaker 1: hear you. Their schedule is terrible and they don't really
- 51:47Speaker 1: have a quarterback. I think Justin Filton's up being the
- 51:49Speaker 1: starter a week five.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Or week six.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Put some respect on Russell Wilson's name. I would have
- 51:56Speaker 1: four years ago, I would have Denver. Yeah, and just
- 52:02Speaker 1: pre all the weirdness. And then some of my friends
- 52:05Speaker 1: are like, yeah, not on Mike, Yeah, you know, here's
- 52:08Speaker 1: thinking about ruh. And I'm like I don't think that
- 52:10Speaker 1: would be kind of the guy I'd like to like
- 52:13Speaker 1: whatever I will say, I think the Steelers, of all
- 52:15Speaker 1: those teams are the worst. I think the Browns they
- 52:20Speaker 1: are like the Bears to me, not a rookie quarterback situation.
- 52:23Speaker 1: But are they ever? They spend all this money, they
- 52:28Speaker 1: guarantee all this money to Deshaun Watson. It's been like
- 52:32Speaker 1: eleven years since that happened. Is he even? Is he
- 52:34Speaker 1: like fifty now?
- 52:35Speaker 4: Like?
- 52:36Speaker 1: Is he any good? He hasn't been good in years now.
- 52:38Speaker 1: He's been hurt, he's been suspended. Last year he got
- 52:41Speaker 1: to be okay to serviceable near the end of the year.
- 52:45Speaker 1: You have Mari Cooper, who's a that's one of those
- 52:47Speaker 1: guys that's awesome they but we don't even really know
- 52:51Speaker 1: because he doesn't get the ball enough to be able
- 52:53Speaker 1: to showcase what he can do. I'm gonna go NFC
- 52:56Speaker 1: North only because I can find two week teams in
- 53:00Speaker 1: the AFC North. But I think the Bengals and the
- 53:01Speaker 1: Ravens are super Bowl teams and the AFC South great.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I love talking about the AFC South. I think the
- 53:08Speaker 1: Titans are going to be a little better than they
- 53:11Speaker 1: think I don't think they're much over a five hundred
- 53:12Speaker 1: team though, do you if they get to five hundred.
- 53:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm just saying I think that division is going
- 53:17Speaker 5: to be again like it happened last year where it
- 53:19Speaker 5: came down the week eighteen.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Are you're saying competitive not within that within? No, I
- 53:23Speaker 1: think they're super I mean, look at the Colts.
- 53:25Speaker 4: The Colts.
- 53:27Speaker 5: The Colts had Garner Minshew come in for the entire season. Essentially,
- 53:30Speaker 5: they beat the Ravens on the road and they all
- 53:33Speaker 5: they lost, missed out in the playoffs by one game
- 53:35Speaker 5: to the Texans, which were on the roll at the time.
- 53:38Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
- 53:39Speaker 5: And I think the Titans have bolstered that roster a
- 53:41Speaker 5: little bit. They're trying to change the culture. We don't
- 53:43Speaker 5: know what that culture is going to be.
- 53:44Speaker 1: New coach from Yeah, Sincinaty comes to GM or second
- 53:48Speaker 1: year GM wants to have an offense.
- 53:51Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's a make or break here for Will.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Levis and Jeffrey Simmons is still here.
- 53:55Speaker 4: Yeap.
- 53:55Speaker 1: He's angry at the media. Yeah, you know what, and
- 54:01Speaker 1: that's kind of how I want him to be.
- 54:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought it was funny you ever see a
- 54:05Speaker 5: massive man and you just feel tiny.
- 54:07Speaker 4: That's a guy that you'd never want to stand by.
- 54:09Speaker 1: He's that big he is.
- 54:10Speaker 5: And then they showed I don't. There's a picture that
- 54:12Speaker 5: just came out recently. He's standing next to the they
- 54:15Speaker 5: drafted another.
- 54:16Speaker 4: D lineman out of maybe Texas.
- 54:18Speaker 5: Yeah, and that guy is towering over Jeffrey Simmons, and
- 54:22Speaker 5: Jeffrey Simmons is a massive human being. So I'm interested
- 54:25Speaker 5: to see how that kid pans out.
- 54:27Speaker 1: It's like, go beart whenever he stands next to uh
- 54:32Speaker 1: uh spur Wenby Wenby. Yeah, you're like, go beart huge
- 54:36Speaker 1: seven to two? Holy god, Okay, I think I feel
- 54:42Speaker 1: good about those questions that Derek Kevin.
- 54:44Speaker 6: That's all all right.
- 54:44Speaker 1: That's see what I like because I'll just say a
- 54:46Speaker 1: bunch of crap and have crazy opinions and have no
- 54:48Speaker 1: idea really how right I am. And then I'm like,
- 54:50Speaker 1: oh god, it's not gonna tell me I'm stupid. I
- 54:52Speaker 1: like that thought. I like that. I like the checks
- 54:54Speaker 1: and balance.
- 54:55Speaker 4: I like that.
- 54:55Speaker 1: All right, that's it, close it up. Okay, God, we
- 55:04Speaker 1: will take a quick break and we will come back
- 55:07Speaker 1: right after this. Okay, A couple other things. Patrick Mahomes
- 55:16Speaker 1: is the eleventh highest paid quarterback, and I think, why
- 55:19Speaker 1: this is beautiful and they're like, can you believe it?
- 55:21Speaker 1: He's so underpaid. I don't think he's underpaid for what
- 55:24Speaker 1: he wants to be paid. I think he wants to win,
- 55:27Speaker 1: and I think there's a difference in wanting to get
- 55:31Speaker 1: paid for financial security, which he already has. By the way,
- 55:34Speaker 1: he can get paid a dollar a season for now
- 55:36Speaker 1: one and have financial security because second greatest quarterback of
- 55:40Speaker 1: all time, probably very close to that being for sure,
- 55:45Speaker 1: not quite there yet, definitely the ceiling of being the
- 55:47Speaker 1: greatest of all time if he can win seven eight
- 55:50Speaker 1: super Bowls. Super marketable, super nice guy. But he wants
- 55:55Speaker 1: to have money for other players on the team, and
- 55:57Speaker 1: I think he values that, So I don't think he's
- 55:59Speaker 1: under paid for what his objective is is to be
- 56:02Speaker 1: the greatest of all time, I win super Bowls. So
- 56:05Speaker 1: when people are like, can you believe it, Patrick Mahomes is,
- 56:08Speaker 1: two things have happened, though. One every time the quarterback market,
- 56:10Speaker 1: it goes up every time, every time there's a new year,
- 56:14Speaker 1: every time. So that's why Jordan Love, That's why too
- 56:17Speaker 1: that's why whom are figeting from this year. There's one
- 56:21Speaker 1: other quarterback cousin well, cousins to get Yeah, but Dad's
- 56:24Speaker 1: coming up, Trevor Launch. That's why they people like, can
- 56:27Speaker 1: you believe two is making well? Yes, because they've decided
- 56:31Speaker 1: that's their guy, and that's what the market is doing
- 56:33Speaker 1: right now. It's always new highs. Patrick Mahomes eleventh on
- 56:37Speaker 1: the list. Matt Overton underpaid.
- 56:40Speaker 5: Yeah wildly, yes, no, but I mean for what we
- 56:43Speaker 5: do get, we get paid really well. But there is
- 56:46Speaker 5: every position every single year the market will take them up.
- 56:51Speaker 5: The specialist position. The kickers have now emerged as making
- 56:54Speaker 5: some more money, and rightfully so. Like Justin Tucker, I
- 56:56Speaker 5: remember there was rumors where he was going to demand
- 56:58Speaker 5: like eight million a year. Five years ago. You'd be like,
- 57:01Speaker 5: you're crazy, you know. I think the highest paid for
- 57:04Speaker 5: long'st time was like four or five million for a kicker,
- 57:06Speaker 5: for a franchise kicker.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Now that's starting to elevate. We're starting to.
- 57:10Speaker 5: See punters kind of creep up there, three to four
- 57:12Speaker 5: million a year, maybe on the high end, twenty bucks
- 57:15Speaker 5: a game, you know what I'm saying. But the snapper
- 57:16Speaker 5: position has never changed. It's always like league minimum.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Really Yeah, and there's only a few of you guys
- 57:21Speaker 1: what's crazy.
- 57:22Speaker 5: Yeah, And I'm I'm not saying that we deserve to
- 57:25Speaker 5: get that high a million a year. He's not coming back,
- 57:27Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. But yeah, every position, every
- 57:29Speaker 5: single year. Yeah, Dak's gonna get that. He's gonna be
- 57:31Speaker 5: the next highest paid quarterback. He's gonna change every single year.
- 57:33Speaker 1: So I guess my point with he's not he is
- 57:36Speaker 1: not underpaid is that if he wanted more, he could
- 57:39Speaker 1: get more. But what he wants is more money for
- 57:42Speaker 1: the team. He's not asking for money based on how
- 57:46Speaker 1: good he is as a quarterback, because he could. He
- 57:47Speaker 1: could go and renegotiate his contract every year. He has
- 57:50Speaker 1: that power. Yeah, but he doesn't because it's like Brady
- 57:53Speaker 1: taking a pay cut to put better players around him,
- 57:56Speaker 1: which he did later in his career. People are like
- 57:59Speaker 1: Brady's underpay. No, he chose to be paid that. So
- 58:02Speaker 1: he's not really being underpaid because that's what he wanted
- 58:05Speaker 1: it to be. Underpaid per a skill level versus the others. Yes,
- 58:09Speaker 1: underpaid as a general, No, because he wants to not
- 58:12Speaker 1: make as much money. So there's more money to go
- 58:14Speaker 1: around because of the cap, and whenever you'll watch or
- 58:18Speaker 1: you'll hear guys on the internet be like you got
- 58:19Speaker 1: to pay him more than any other quarterback. That would
- 58:21Speaker 1: be a nightmare for him. He doesn't want that because
- 58:23Speaker 1: then he can't pay for other players to exist on
- 58:26Speaker 1: his team. So but that's also why it's gonna win
- 58:29Speaker 1: Super Bowls.
- 58:29Speaker 6: And imagine him doing that every year because he could,
- 58:32Speaker 6: like you.
- 58:32Speaker 1: Said, he's one of the few, can be like, you
- 58:34Speaker 1: know what, do it again? I want to always be
- 58:36Speaker 1: the highest paid quarterback. There are coaches in their contracts
- 58:39Speaker 1: when they sign the contract, they must be the highest
- 58:42Speaker 1: paid coach per like three years in a row. So
- 58:45Speaker 1: let's say let's say I go and I coach lacrosse
- 58:49Speaker 1: for Arkansas, and my contract, I want to be the
- 58:51Speaker 1: highest paid lacrosse coach in the country, but for three
- 58:54Speaker 1: years in a row. If anybody jumps up and that's announced,
- 58:57Speaker 1: I'm one dollar more. Like those contracts, a contract can
- 59:00Speaker 1: say whatever you want it to say if you have
- 59:02Speaker 1: the leverage to make it say it underpaid for his
- 59:07Speaker 1: skills and for what he's done, Yes, but underpaid because
- 59:10Speaker 1: of he wants to be paid more. No, because he's
- 59:12Speaker 1: chosen to be paid that so we can have other players.
- 59:14Speaker 4: Yeah, but let's look back when he signed his deal
- 59:16Speaker 4: what four years ago? Yeah? Was it four hundred million total?
- 59:20Speaker 4: What was front loaded?
- 59:21Speaker 5: Because when you take in that consideration, what they guaranteed
- 59:24Speaker 5: him maybe still more than what they're guaranteeing Tua and
- 59:28Speaker 5: guaranteeing Jordan Love for sure.
- 59:30Speaker 1: It's like Daniel Jones when he got the big deal
- 59:32Speaker 1: four years it was like, well, that's not quite what
- 59:35Speaker 1: this contract is. Like you had mentioned earlier, like these
- 59:37Speaker 1: contracts and agents want to put out the best. Oh. Sure,
- 59:41Speaker 1: they wanted to be seen that their player got a
- 59:43Speaker 1: massive deal, and it's rarely what they're actually probably going
- 59:48Speaker 1: to get. Sure, incentives are sometimes added into this is
- 59:51Speaker 1: what they're making, even though the incentives could or couldn't
- 59:54Speaker 1: be reached. The next one is DJ Moore. We mentioned
- 59:57Speaker 1: that he got a four year, one hundred and ten
- 59:58Speaker 1: million dollar extension. What's been crazy to me? I like it,
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: but I mean wide receivers are I mean that's the money.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Take quarterbacks out, like that's the money position now, pass rusher, yeah,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: edges and wide receivers yep, and you know what's been
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: devalued obviously running backs. I think we're going to see
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: a shift in that again though, because running backs are
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: now acquiring more skills to be able to, you know,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: be a bit of that slot. H Christian McCaffrey even
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: say Kuwana bit DeAndre Swift, those guys, like, I think
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: that's now becoming more of a norm where it wasn't.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: And like linebackers and safeties, like, they're not valued at
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: in the hierarchy of who we're going to pay like
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: they used to.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: Like you said, it's an offensive driven league, so you're
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: going to pay the offensive players more. But then what
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: puts more the most pressure on an offense is a
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: pass rusher. That's why they're getting paid top dollar.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: Here's the list of quarterbacks and how they're paid. Joe
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Burrow fifty five million. I think we can all agree
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: with that. Joe Burrow's Joe Burrow is the only guy
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: to go straight up. But Pat mahomeso take him to Yeah,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Tom Brady is the greatest of all time. Yeah yeah,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: didn't get the job done though, who did not the
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: mangles Burrow? Oh yeah, I agree, And he's also like
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: this fingernail hurts tomorrow.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Lost to Old Stafford.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: He's got Yeah, he's got a nose hair that's injured today.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I like Joe Burrow. I think Joe Burrows.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: I think it's it's hard not to like him.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Yeah, even though he's like super co I like his
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: cockiness more than just I like him being cocky, Like
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: he's got like a soft cockiness where it's funny, but
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: you also know he means it.
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: And he probably makes fun of himself quite a bit.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and he probably doesn't take himself so seriously with
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: some of the really arrogant feeling things he does because
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: a little bit of done in jest. Well, I heard
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: the haircut is before.
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: It was for a cancer patient that just came out
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: too really, so he shaved his head, dyed it because
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: he a fan going through chemo had reached out to
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: him and he agreed to shave his head.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: The dying it's funny though. No, I like to dye
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: and much. I could do that. Yeah, Yeah, I'm jealous.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: He's a fifty five. Trevor Lawrence fifty five and Jordan
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: loves a fifty five. You know it was Trevor Lawrence
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Andrew luck Peyton Manning, Caleb Williams. Like, there's like in
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: our lifetime four or five guys that have been so
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: highly touted all the way through. I like Trevor Lawrence.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: I know you played with him. I don't know anything
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: about him personally, but I like Trevor Lawrence and I
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: feel bad for him because he's Doug Peterson. He's finally
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: got somebody consistent. Thank God, think about urban Meyer. Everybody,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: did you play Forevan? I didn't, but I've heard the
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: night my stories. Yeah, NonStop nightmares. Imagine you're a rookie
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: and it's a nightmare situation. Culture's bad coaching, Like, of
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: course they lost and he sucked. I think I like
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence. How do you feel about Trevor Lawrence as
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: a quarterback.
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: I think he's great.
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: I mean, he had some injuries last year, played through
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: some injuries again. I think the Jacksonville Jaguars are kind
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: of that wild card in the division.
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: We expect them to be really good.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: They're putting the pieces to the post together to make
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: him really really competitive, putting a lot of money into
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: the facility, new stadiums coming.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: Jacksonville.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: Duval County is like thirsty for a Super Bowl champion,
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: and I think the culture there is set because the
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: longevity you look around the league, Pete Carroll, Mike Tomlin, Belichick,
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: the teams that win stick together around the longest, the
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: continuity from management, coaching and core players. I mean, when
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: you have the carousel around where there's new people coming
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: in every single year, new head coach, new oc, DC,
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: all that kind of stuff, I mean, you just don't
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: have longevity for success. And I think the Jacksonville Jaguars
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: are trying to set themselves up for that.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: And it starts with Trevor Lawrence.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I wonder if Dak was going to try to be
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: the first sixty million dollars quarterback he could. There's not
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: one yet, But again with Dak and CD and Michaeh. Parsons,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: they're gonna have.
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: To, like one's got to go right well or they're gonna.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Have to ruberscue that thing together somehow.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: And I could see Michael Parsons walking.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Jordan Love two as a fifty three million just got paid,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Jared Goff fifty three million. Jared Goff's been really great
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: in Detroit. Yeah, justin Herbert Lamar, Jackson, Jalen Hurts Kyler Murray,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson. Those are your top ten there, All right, Michael,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: We're right.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: I think we're good.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: We are good. Okay, cool, I'm about to wrap this up.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Two things. One, I've been watching a bit of the Olympics,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: and I haven't watched any of the women's USA basketball team,
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: and I am and I have been watching. I got
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: the WNBA package because I wanted to watch Kaitlyn Clark.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: And now that they're admitting, yeah, maybe we should have
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: put her on the team. You had no crap for
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: two reasons. One because second half of the first half
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: of the season she was a top ten player. Obviously,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: it was rough to start, even though she was scoring
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: and assisting, but she came right off of her season
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: with IOWA, right into camp and then had a terrible schedule.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: They were doing back to backs. Man, she started playing
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: one game every three or four days. She was killing.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: So they should have put her on the team because
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: nobody cares. First of all, that wnbaight, the USA team
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: got beat by the WNBA team. That didn't make hilarious.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: So what's gonna happen is they're gonna win the goal.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: They win the gold every year and it's still like, yeah,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: well you didn't be Katel Clark and Angelies and the
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: people that did not make the Olympic team hilarious. So
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: this is how much people don't care about the US
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: women's Olympic basketball team. Here are the games. Spain versus
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: China twenty seven thousand, people show up, Serbia versus Puerto
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Rico fifteen thousand, Nigeria, Australia twenty four thousand, Germany, Belgium
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: twenty thousand, France, Canada twenty thousand, this is all women's USA,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: Japan thirteen thousand. Jeez, the most famous women basketball player
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: in the world. Like, I think Asia is awesome and
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: she is the MVP, and she has the best player
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: in the NBA, and she's killing in the Olympic. She's
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: double double on every game, but nobody cares. If Kayla
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: Clark was on the team, if Angel Reach was on
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: the team, there'd be thirty thousand people in the place.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: It was as they would say, they could not have
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: fumbled that bag harder, harder one, because they deserve to
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: be there those two. And secondly, when it's not Caitlin
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: Clark and a bit of Angel Reese, nobody cares. I
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: didn't care.
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: I watched like two minutes of it.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Yeah, nobody cares. And I care about America and I
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: love America and I want us to win everything. But
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: I'll just check a highlight. Yeah, I don't watch every fencing.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I'll just check a highlight to see if we want
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: a medal, that's what. And they're not that likable. Uh,
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: you know who's likable on the team. I liked Asia
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: and I like she plays for Seattle, shoots off the threes.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Super no, super Bird doesn't play anymore? Oh really?
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: You like Jackie Young though, she's fine, she's really good.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: Diana Tarassi, she's mid mid midlight. I'm talking about people
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: that I like. She's all three. She's shot against Stephan.
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: The three punk.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, I like her too. So those are
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: the two. But nobody cares so WNBA the fact they
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: beat them, They should just give the gold medals to them.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: You know what they should have done. They said, you know,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: to the Olympic team, this is now the Olympic team,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: the team that beat you. You guys, go ahead, Yeah
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: you got beat by these WNBA players that couldn't make
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: the Olympic team. They are now the Olympic team.
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: That would be fun though.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: I'd watch that like, whoever wins this game as is
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: our team for the USA, let's go.
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: Yeah, that would be cool.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Okay, So there's that, and then the final thing is
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: NFL is going to test the Hawkeye technology and some
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: preseason games. So this is from ESPN. The preseason is
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: about to happen with the Hall of Fame game happening,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: and so you know, it is weird. You got a
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: few sixty two year old dudes with chains still running around,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: it is, and sometimes they get hurt in the games
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: and they get run over on the side that obvious.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Feel bad for him, you too, like the camera guy.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: But they're gonna do some of the Hawkeye technology from Sony.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: It'll measure the yards needed for a first down the chains,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: and then people will be on standby just in case
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: because sometimes technology does go down, but they won't do
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: a full implementation if it does work. But there's a
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: possibility that it's some little things it happened, like the
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: ball crossing the goal line, and some people will say, well,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: what about the knee being down? Okay, well but if
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: you can see the knee, yeah, it's not a it's
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: not a one hundred percent fix all, but it is
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: a Okay, the knee is down here, where's the ball?
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: I think I would love to see the chip in
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: the ball because I just love accuracy. How do you
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: feel about that?
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: Asking me?
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean we've been wondering for years now
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: that when are they going to start implementing the technology advances.
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: We see it displayed in the XFL and the UFL
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: and hockey and all this kind of stuff, you know,
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: baseball replay, and I think it's about time that the
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: NFL start implementing the technology, the technology advances to help
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: these crucial you know, like bang bang plays that from
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: the naked eye, or.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Game deciding plays, even if it's not every play, even
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: let's go we don't want a game decided on human
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: error and you can't see every angle because there's a
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: scrum on the goal line. It's sometimes it's hard to
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: see those sides. Sure, and we're not saying to replace
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: all humans, but I think I'm all for technology making
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: the game more accurate. Tennis, that's awesome. When they show
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: the ball, it's like right away too, that's super sick, Like,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: let's check the bird. It shows the ball. That's super cool. Okay,
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: So a couple of things. Matt has a podcast you
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: guys should check out. Will put in the notes section
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: as well how you can check it out. What is
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: the name of your podcast?
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: Stay Ready to podcast?
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Stay Ready And that's also like your thing too, write
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: my mantra and little little personal brand. Yeah, so Stay
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: Ready the podcast. What is it about?
- 1:09:36Speaker 5: Primarily the root of it is, says testimonial based, faith based.
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: I love to share testimonial story from teammates, people that
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: have I've played against the NFL, people within the music industry,
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: whether it's an artist, songwriter, manager.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: So we have some great guests that we do.
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: And I think the coolest thing is there's a lot
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: of parallels between athletes and country artists right here in town.
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: I think the parallels that are interesting is is really
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: the grind and the nature of both businesses have a
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: lot of parallels and similarities. So I just love having
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: a safe place for people to come share some tough
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: moments in life and hopefully the listeners gain, you know,
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: a lot of encouragement and motivation from those stories. And
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: I just love having fun and and actually get into
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: a lot of these people that come on the podcasts,
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: I mean for the first time on the podcast. So
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: it's just a great way to get to know somebody
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: and and learn the story.
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: And I love sharing those stories.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Last couple of guests you had, we had Dalax Alexander
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: h JTF two sniper out of Canada. His name is
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: jt F two. No no, no, Dallas Alexander is his name? Okay,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: then some kind of ranked class j TF T is.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: That's a cool name, j F two.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: It's like a Navy seal pretty much. But he was
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: in the sniper class. He's got the world record for
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: aungest kill shot two point two miles away him and
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: his team, but he was one of two guys to
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: make that shot. But he's also now transitioning into country music.
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: He's no longer serving the military in Canada and now
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: he's a singer songwriter, and so.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: He came on and just talked about his life and faith.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: It was in the shot, yeah, world record shot, and
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: then I mean it was crazy that three days later
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: the assassination attempt. So he's kind of blown up social
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: media wise because he's been on a lot of podcasts
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: about his expertise and kind of what it entails and
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: all the secret service people that he are, our big
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: time political figures that he's had to protect in situations
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: like that. And then we have a really cool one tomorrow,
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: Rob Havner, I believe his name. He's a he does
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: a lot of the thirty for thirty stuff.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: So he's done the de Manning Family.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: What do you mean does he's a producer for it
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: of those shows.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: Yeah, he's done to Shaquil O'Neil, and so I'm really
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: interested to hear story.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: And he's right here in Nashville.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Check out Stay Ready with Matt Overton. We'll also put
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: it in the notes so you can see, Matt. We
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: really enjoyed having you on. I mean it also makes
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: it easy for me cause I can just say stupid
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: stuff in the fact check right here.
- 1:12:13Speaker 6: That's the best part.
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: As you were talking, Bob, every time you're looking at Matt, like,
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: what are you going to say?
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: I had a chirp back a couple of times.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: Man, how stupid am I?
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Matt?
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: Thanks for being everybody. That was awesome. Check out Stay Ready,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I go follow. We'll put everybody's socials, but don't forget
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: read sings, Wake up, wake up, and.
- 1:12:31Speaker 7: Don't forget everybody. Hey else, that's a good question. I
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: have it recorded, I just need to do some final
- 1:12:38Speaker 7: touches on it. So I was trying to figure out
- 1:12:40Speaker 7: if I was going to put it out this week.
- 1:12:42Speaker 7: It's probably not gonna be this week, but just so
- 1:12:44Speaker 7: I can keep myself accountable, I'm going to try my
- 1:12:47Speaker 7: hardest to have it out on Friday.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: The what is it the going to say? Next Friday?
- 1:12:53Speaker 6: Next Friday?
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: Yeah, fifteenth, it's the ninth. Okay, so then what about
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: how how's the jingle coming for the Boby Bunch of
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: new mailback song. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:13:03Speaker 7: I have it started on that, but I have it
- 1:13:05Speaker 7: in voice notes, the melody, everything, just.
