- 0:18i'm a social media I don't want people to think
- 0:25that I get on the internet and start hating people
- 0:27on social media. That's not what I do. The first
- 0:29half was absolutely, absolutely horrible. You
- 0:33know, just inept offense, inept defense, special
- 0:37teams, you name it. I'm going to turn into Oprah.
- 0:40Why were you so angry? He sucks this season.
- 0:45This game, whatever, whatever's going on, right?
- 0:47And then in the very next pitch, guess what?
- 0:50They double Homer. And he's like, told you that.
- 0:53Why are you always knocking down people? Listen,
- 0:56you got the highs and the lows. Yeah, so I knew
- 0:58that. You need the highs and the lows. So I do
- 1:01that, yeah. I'm trying to be the voice of reason
- 1:04here. I am what I am. What's up everybody welcome
- 1:20to another episode of fanatically speaking I'm
- 1:22Kent the co -host and promoter I Am log off the
- 1:26log off legend the hater of all things social
- 1:28media I am the co -host and producer of the show
- 1:32and today's episode we are hitting on some current
- 1:36event hot topics three guys who are I would say
- 1:41legends and They've got some decisions to make
- 1:44their organization's got some decisions to make
- 1:47or they've already made the decision and we want
- 1:50to hit on them yeah yeah we do and you're right
- 1:54i think all of these guys are well respected
- 1:57all three of them and we were actually talking
- 2:00about this a little bit before we uh kicked off
- 2:02the recording all three of them fully respected
- 2:07take their sports incredibly serious their career
- 2:11is incredibly serious serious and Or I think
- 2:16it's fair to say team first guys Is that you
- 2:20think that's fair to say? Oh, definitely Yeah,
- 2:23okay. Yeah team first guys hard workers, you
- 2:26know just like so and we'll stop we'll stop bearing
- 2:29the lead Who do you want to start off with because
- 2:31we I mean I think we can go in any direction
- 2:33with this So we can start off with with whoever
- 2:36you like Let's just start with with Yannis Sure,
- 2:42let's start with Yannis Because I think I think
- 2:46we'll lead into the more juicier one Because
- 2:50it's a whole nut. No, let's go. No, let's do
- 2:52it. Yeah, Yanis It had been talking to all season
- 2:55probably for the last year or so The Bucks are
- 3:00they gonna trade Yanis? Does he want out and
- 3:03he stayed pretty loyal? You know, he stayed with
- 3:06that team He was proud of himself with the Bucks
- 3:09leading them to a championship the team that
- 3:11drafted them He said he doesn't want to go join
- 3:14super teams, things like that. And he's been
- 3:16a man of his word. But sometimes it comes to
- 3:20a point where the organization just isn't going
- 3:23anywhere. And it's just not, you're kind of wasting
- 3:27a superstar's career. And it's not helped to
- 3:31get Doc Rivers, it didn't help getting Damian
- 3:34Lillard. And then this year we talked about it
- 3:37at the beginning. What did we think the Bucks
- 3:39were going to do? They had Miles Turner, Cole
- 3:41Anthony. They went out and got Kyle Kuzma last
- 3:44year. And it's really not helped. Now we find
- 3:47Giannis on the shelf. He's going to be out in
- 3:50probably a month. And this happened immediately
- 3:53after the story came out that they were going
- 3:55to, they were pretty much talking about working
- 3:59out a deal, figuring out his future. Yeah. And
- 4:01so when you talk about figuring out his future,
- 4:04There were some theories and, you know, concepts
- 4:08that had been kind of thrown around, whether
- 4:11or not he was demanding a trade, whether or not
- 4:13he was requesting a trade. Head coach, Doc Rivers
- 4:17came out and said that Giannis had not, you know,
- 4:20demanded a trade. He put that on the record.
- 4:24And then, like you said, immediately after those
- 4:27reports and everything come out, he goes down
- 4:29with a non -contact injury. That if we're going
- 4:33to be honest looked a little suspect It just
- 4:36it didn't look like a normal injury, which I
- 4:39think kind of adds fuel to the fire But the interesting
- 4:43thing that I've always heard now and I actually
- 4:45like this about the NBA No secret. I love the
- 4:48NBA basketball favorite sport. I love it, but
- 4:52it's got more conspiracies around it than any
- 4:55other sport like a lot of conspiracies and It
- 4:59seems like there's always a hidden story or hidden
- 5:02something behind what's taking place with a story
- 5:06that comes out or some spat between players or
- 5:11organizations. And the interesting thing is I
- 5:16want to see Giannis do well. And he's always
- 5:21one of those guys. And I've actually heard Charles
- 5:23Barkley say this. He gives 100 % effort. Two
- 5:26guys, Russell Westbrook, And Giannis always give
- 5:29100 % effort every night. They're not out there
- 5:32half -assing it as players. They don't cheat
- 5:34the fans in that regard. So I'd like to see Giannis
- 5:37do well. I don't know where I want him. I don't
- 5:40know if the Bucs are actually gonna move him.
- 5:42I don't know what type of trade packages they'll
- 5:44get for him. But, you know, having him injured
- 5:48complicates things further. But I feel like the
- 5:51injury actually serves him a benefit because
- 5:53it gives a stretch of time. for teams to be able
- 5:57to actually put forth packages together so that
- 6:00if they are going to make a trade with the Bucs,
- 6:03you know, the Bucs may be able to get the best
- 6:05offer. Yeah, I think right now it's like way
- 6:08early, even though probably any team would be
- 6:10ready to jump at the chance to get Giannis. But
- 6:13then some of the teams they've named, some of
- 6:15the players, it's like, do you want to mess up
- 6:18the chemistry of your team? Again, even though
- 6:21it's getting Giannis, it could possibly get Giannis
- 6:23on your team. But I think that month, Will like
- 6:26you said give the teams chances to get their
- 6:30packages together But also see where their teams
- 6:32at a whole nother month first of the year closer
- 6:36to that trade deadline They'll be about a month
- 6:39away from the deadline at that point So there
- 6:42again midseason is normally when teams make trades
- 6:45when you're talking about. Okay, where we at
- 6:46where we going You'll have a better idea of who's
- 6:50in contention and is our team working? Is it
- 6:53not working? And can we add Yanis not for this
- 6:56season but for the future too? All right, and
- 7:02I'm gonna push back a little bit or something
- 7:03you said I don't if I'm trading for Yanis, I
- 7:09Don't give a shit about chemistry go get that
- 7:12guy. We'll figure that out later I don't want
- 7:15to hear anything about team chemistry and I don't
- 7:19Hit he is such a high -level talent that you
- 7:23can't even if you do feel like it's going to
- 7:26obliterate your team chemistry, having him in
- 7:29your locker room, having him on your team is
- 7:32a much greater benefit as a basketball team as
- 7:37we know that one dominant player can shift the
- 7:41face of a, it changes the trajectory of your
- 7:43franchise for the next, you know, five to seven
- 7:45years as he did for Milwaukee. And he developed
- 7:50into that. He was a skinny kid coming into the
- 7:52league. Oh, yeah, nobody knew. He started playing
- 7:54basketball late. Yeah. Like like he's rounded
- 7:57out into a super, super high end player. And
- 8:00the other thing is I think one of the bigger
- 8:03questions is, are you going to be able to trade
- 8:05for Giannis and not take his brother with him?
- 8:09Is he going to have to have his brother on the
- 8:10team, too? I don't think I don't know that I
- 8:15don't know he has to. I mean, from what I've
- 8:21seen, has he played a season without his brother
- 8:25being on the roster, ever? I'm not sure, but
- 8:29I don't know, man. I don't know if they've got
- 8:31the LeBron -Bronnie relationship. From what I've
- 8:36seen and from what I've heard is the Nasus who
- 8:39we all know not to be a great basketball player.
- 8:42He keeps getting some NBA contracts, man. He
- 8:45stays on that Bucks roster. It might be, hey,
- 8:48he don't cost a lot. So I mean, you know, why
- 8:51not? Again, if you get Yanis, I don't think the
- 8:56other team cares. Fair enough. Yeah. But still
- 9:02a roster spot. Yeah. And if you're a team, and
- 9:07if you're a team that is legitimately trying
- 9:10to compete for a championship, that roster spot
- 9:13could matter. It could be the 15th guy. I mean,
- 9:18okay, I'll give you that. But we'll, you know,
- 9:21we'll see, we see a lot of teams where when,
- 9:23when you look at teams that win championships,
- 9:25they are complete. The only reason that 14th
- 9:28and 15th guy could be there is because one through
- 9:3013 super strong. Um, so just to kind of put a
- 9:34bow on this, I know you've heard some of the
- 9:37rumors about where he's talking about being traded.
- 9:40We talked about There was some rumblings about
- 9:44him being traded to the Knicks. That was actually
- 9:46last year. So there are some rumblings about
- 9:48the Knicks wanting to make some moves. Have you
- 9:51heard anything that interests you or do you have
- 9:54a team in mind that you would like to see Giannis
- 9:56play for? So I've seen some of the mock trade
- 10:00ideas, right? They've come out and it's Atlanta.
- 10:05It's New York. They named the Spurs. Because
- 10:11again you you have to have and the Warriors Because
- 10:15you have to have the capital and I'm sorry you
- 10:18said you said the Warriors one. Yeah, I've seen
- 10:20that I'm trying to think I think there was a
- 10:23fifth one And I'm just drawing a blank at the
- 10:27moment on it And these are all just projections
- 10:34these are all just hypothetical like yeah the
- 10:37Rockets Okay, and again and again some of these
- 10:41teams are having to give up a star player that
- 10:43they have now Some some it's draft picks obviously
- 10:48is gonna be huge in any honest deal. I Mean,
- 10:51you're probably yeah And again, we go back to
- 10:53why the Bucs would make this deal one the franchise
- 10:57at the moment's going nowhere They don't hold
- 11:01any of their own First round picks for like the
- 11:04next what four or five years? Yeah, and they
- 11:08are they are really strapped with the salary
- 11:11cap. They have not done a good job financially
- 11:14to Set their team up for success to sign even
- 11:18though they did sign miles Turner. They really
- 11:21Probably shouldn't have but they did And that
- 11:25again and that's the thing. It's been poor. It's
- 11:28been poor It's been poor management and and then
- 11:31of course the Dane contract You know, they were
- 11:35able to get Dame and trade him to Portland, but
- 11:37there's still a salary cap offset. I want to
- 11:39say it's something to the tune of like 20 million
- 11:41a year spread out against the Milwaukee bucks
- 11:45cap throughout the rest of the life of the contract
- 11:47just to get him out of the building. So there's
- 11:50dead cap hits and, and, and this is where I was
- 11:53saying to think the stuff about his brother.
- 11:54This is where this stuff matters because not
- 11:57only are you taking up a roster spot, that's
- 11:59an extra 20 million that you can't pay somebody
- 12:01else. Yeah. But the NASA ain't taking up that
- 12:07like I don't see the I'm just not that concerned
- 12:10about it I mean only because again, can you name
- 12:14the number 15th guy on an NBA team and tell me
- 12:17what he does besides cheer? No, I can't but When
- 12:27when you're a serious NBA franchise and it's
- 12:31funny that you said that because there were two
- 12:34teams, key teams that I had in mind that you
- 12:37didn't even mention, all right? And there's a
- 12:41lot of reasons for that. One of them is the Miami
- 12:43Heat. And I love that move because we were talking
- 12:48about serious NBA franchises. Name one that's
- 12:51more serious. You know, Pat Riley does not play
- 12:54those games. And I think him coming in, I think
- 12:58he embodies, you know, there's a lot of heat
- 13:00culture talk and, you know, just how serious
- 13:02they are as a basketball franchise and all that.
- 13:04But the one thing they do is they draft incredibly
- 13:08well and they develop talent. And they are creative
- 13:12enough in that front office to where they can
- 13:14make these types of moves to trade for a player
- 13:16like that. Obviously, the best example was, you
- 13:20know, the Wade, Chris Bosh, LeBron, you know,
- 13:24super team. Right. But The other thing is, is
- 13:27when we talk about a team that it's easy to just
- 13:30make the trade, the easiest team to make that
- 13:33trade is OKC. Oh, yeah. We've had this. We've
- 13:37had the conversation before about all as talented
- 13:40as they are and the great chemistry that they
- 13:42have as a team. But they've got great players
- 13:45on great contracts. And they've got every NBA
- 13:48pick for the next five years that Milwaukee would
- 13:53love to have. So. They could write up a draft
- 13:57sheet right now. I'm sorry. They could write
- 13:58up a trade sheet right now and send it over to
- 14:00Milwaukee and say, you're never going to get
- 14:03anything better than this. And just think about
- 14:06it. You could give up Chet Holmgren who's similar
- 14:10to Giannis in a lot of ways lengthwise, just
- 14:12length, height, defensive, you know, not as great
- 14:14as the offensive player, not as dominant, but
- 14:17he's got a lot of upside. Throw him into it,
- 14:20throw in some of those other guys. throw in some
- 14:23picks you get Giannis and you pair him with the
- 14:25rest of that squad they're all serious about
- 14:28playing basketball and I mean people think the
- 14:31OKC is scary now put Giannis on that team yeah
- 14:35when you were saying earlier about chemistry
- 14:37I was gonna I was gonna bring up OKC that obviously
- 14:40we talked about them they have all these picks
- 14:43and but would they want to mess up that you know
- 14:48but they got their championship but then it is
- 14:50that chemistry like would they make that trade
- 14:53to say, we have a good thing going. We have this
- 14:57deep roster of talent, but I would, and I'm sorry,
- 15:03I'll go back to it. The Miami Heat as well was
- 15:06one that I thought of as well, because they're
- 15:07always involved in big names, right? So my take
- 15:11on - Their name is in every big trade. Yeah,
- 15:13and I agree with you. I would trade Chet Holmgren
- 15:16for Yanis in a heartbeat. Heartbeat. in a heartbeat
- 15:21and those two first rounders this year I would
- 15:23give them oh we got this oh yeah trade them to
- 15:26milwaukee don't need them uh it's a hole so the
- 15:29thunder heat I think our our two teams definitely
- 15:33would be uh involved in this because here's what
- 15:38I think too though if Yanis is going to get traded
- 15:41he's going to have a say where he goes and we
- 15:44can blame we can bring up the Atlanta Hawks and
- 15:46we can bring up some other teams I don't think
- 15:50Giannis goes to, I think he has to be, I think
- 15:53he's gonna need to be traded to an organization
- 15:55that knows how to win, that is well run, like
- 16:04the Miami Heat. So when you start talking about
- 16:06teams like that, because I saw something about
- 16:08the Charlotte Hornets, right? It's like Giannis
- 16:11is not coming to Charlotte. You know what I mean?
- 16:14Even though they could put together probably
- 16:16a pretty good package with picks and young players.
- 16:20But again, probably not as good as package as
- 16:22these other teams. But again, when you talk about
- 16:25teams and organizations, of all those teams we
- 16:29just named, when you go from ownership to management
- 16:33to culture, then you are talking Miami Heat,
- 16:40OKC, San Antonio, and probably Golden State.
- 16:45Those four, I don't even put Houston in that.
- 16:51Do you agree with that? I don't think you just
- 16:54trade Giannis to the team that has the best offer.
- 16:59I don't think you do Giannis that way. If you're
- 17:02gonna mutually decide, hey, this is best, the
- 17:07next team he plays for I think has to be a well
- 17:11-run organization. You're not sending Yannis
- 17:18to Charlotte. You're not sending Yannis to New
- 17:20Orleans, Washington. You know what I mean? I
- 17:24know. I'm a pro player guy, okay? I exude that.
- 17:30It comes out of my pores. I don't give a shit
- 17:33where Yannis wants to go, man. He doesn't have
- 17:35a no -trade cause. If I'm the Bucks, we just
- 17:39went over how this situation is screwed. Yeah.
- 17:42their organization has not been run well the
- 17:45last, since they won their championship, it has
- 17:47not been run well. They kept a lot of older guys.
- 17:50They kept, I feel like Lopez played on that team
- 17:53for a decade. It hasn't been run well for them
- 18:01to be able to have growth in the future. Giannis
- 18:04was their centerpiece, we knew that. But when
- 18:07it comes to what's best for my organization,
- 18:11I gotta take the best deal. I gotta take the
- 18:13best players, and I gotta take the best packages.
- 18:16And that just comes down to, I mean, I hate to
- 18:20say it comes down to draft picks, but it does.
- 18:23Because anything can happen with a player that's
- 18:25in the league. You need that potential. Draft
- 18:27picks are cash in a lot of ways. Where a current
- 18:30player on your roster, or a current player that
- 18:33you trade for is somebody that's on credit. If
- 18:36that makes any sense. I don't know if that's
- 18:38a fair comparison. What I would do is if I'm
- 18:43Milwaukee I go to him and say hey, here's what
- 18:46we're gonna do. We're gonna move you I Don't
- 18:50know where we're gonna trade you to But we're
- 18:53gonna re up to for another deal. He's got three
- 18:56years left on his deal 22 28 29 he's a unrestricted
- 19:02free agent so starting next year he can sign
- 19:06an extension I sign him to an extension that's
- 19:10negotiated with another team and move him. So
- 19:13that way he's locked in, he gets all his money,
- 19:17his contract's guaranteed, and you can move him
- 19:19somewhere where you can get the best package.
- 19:21Now, I don't see a bad team just trading for
- 19:23him. We don't see horrible franchises trading
- 19:27for superstars. So it would be someone who is
- 19:31a competitor to be able to compete. for a championship
- 19:34we saw it with phoenix phoenix competed for a
- 19:37championship for a couple years and then they're
- 19:39like let's make the kd move and it didn't work
- 19:41out so give me but like atlanta give me the best
- 19:46deal atlanta i don't see atlanta making that
- 19:50move i don't think they've got enough there's
- 19:54too many other good teams I mean, I could see
- 19:58Boston making that move. If I'm Boston, I'm kicking
- 20:02in every door I can to get young. They should,
- 20:04but they want to cut, you know, they're trying
- 20:06to cut salary. But Atlanta, you know, what I've
- 20:11heard is, you know, and again, the Bucs, again,
- 20:13they'll take on expiring contracts, too, because
- 20:15then that sheds cap. So the Atlanta package that
- 20:18I saw was obviously they own the Pelicans first
- 20:21round pick because the Pelicans make bad trades.
- 20:25And that could end up being the top pick. The
- 20:28whole Derek Queen trade last year's draft. They
- 20:31moved up eight spots and gave up this year's
- 20:35first round pick. So, you know, a Trey Young,
- 20:38Porzingis, that pick and some other first round
- 20:41picks. Now, again, the Thunder have some really
- 20:43good picks too. The Spurs have good picks and
- 20:46young talent. Those three teams have really good,
- 20:51I mean, they could put together a really good
- 20:52package. When you're talking draft when you're
- 20:57talking draft picks Plus talent because I don't
- 21:01think the bucks are just gonna take picks like
- 21:03they're gonna need like hey Give me a reason
- 21:06give our fan. You know that they're gonna have
- 21:07to do a rebuild but expiring contracts a young
- 21:12player or a Trey young who only has a few years
- 21:15left and then the draft picks All right, and
- 21:21so sports business nerd comes out of course you
- 21:25can't just trade for picks and we talked about
- 21:28this before the con the salaries have to match
- 21:31the money has a match and and even though picks
- 21:34have a value they don't have the value of a 40
- 21:3750 million dollar contract so when you look at
- 21:41the hawks who are the highest paid players on
- 21:44that team trade trade and the highest paid player
- 21:46that i'm sorry trade down right there you go
- 21:50So, when you're looking at that roster and you're
- 21:53looking at who makes what, their second highest
- 21:56player is Christophe Sporzingis. And again, he's
- 21:58expiring. There you go. Expiring. You got Jalen
- 22:03Johnson. Yes. So, I mean, so it helps. But the
- 22:07other thing you just said is you still, you want
- 22:10a player that's got talent. I mean, people, I
- 22:14think people thought that Kristaps Porzingis
- 22:16would have been what Jan has turned into. I remember
- 22:18New York people, oh, oh, KP's gonna be, and then
- 22:22he turned out, bleh. But it's a hard conversation.
- 22:27We'll have to see how things play out. But for
- 22:30me, if I'm the Bucks, I take the best that I
- 22:32can get. You gotta give me something that works
- 22:36for me for the next five to 10 years. that I'm
- 22:39able to turn this franchise around, it ain't
- 22:41about Giannis. He's got his championship, he's
- 22:44got his contracts, he's got his money, and he
- 22:46has a reputation that is respected. That is hard.
- 22:49He's got all three of those things. He stuck
- 22:51it out as long as he could, and I don't have
- 22:53a problem with him leaving. But I can't just
- 22:56take a bad deal just to make him feel better
- 22:58so that he goes someplace that he's happy. I
- 23:00can't do that. I don't think it's taking a bad
- 23:02deal. And normally I agree with you that the
- 23:04team, especially when guys like Kevin Durant,
- 23:08demand James Harden demand trade every year,
- 23:10when they start, you know, they come up and do
- 23:12that, then I am all about the team saying, look,
- 23:15I'm going to trade you wherever I want to trade
- 23:17you. I think, I think this is a little bit different.
- 23:20I think Giannis has earned a little bit of respect
- 23:22from Milwaukee Bucks to not just send him to
- 23:26anywhere and they still get a good deal. But
- 23:30I see. And I, and I agree with you, but I know
- 23:33what you mean. Yeah, and and I don't see him
- 23:36and like I said just to be clear I don't see
- 23:39them trading him to a bad franchise No, I just
- 23:42don't I see them trade trading him to a a competitive
- 23:47Franchise that has the ability to compete for
- 23:49a championship with that acquisition of Yanis
- 23:53That's what that's how I see it. Just visually
- 23:57in as I'm as I'm thinking about it don't I don't
- 24:01think they would do that I think I think one
- 24:02more thing I'm just gonna say yeah the more I
- 24:04think about that okay see again I would trade
- 24:06I would make that trade it like I said in a heartbeat
- 24:09in a heartbeat got one loss right now they might
- 24:13go undefeated if they had you know I'm not even
- 24:19joking I'm not even joking yeah and I'm with
- 24:21you and just think about it dude like you can
- 24:23he could play I mean, he could play 28 minutes
- 24:28a game because he like just crazy, just crazy
- 24:33stats, crazy metrics. They're they're so, uh,
- 24:39so deep. A honest SGA combination, man, is dead.
- 24:43It is illegal. Because like you said, Chet Holmgren
- 24:47is a good player. I'm not going to, you know,
- 24:52he's not a superstar. I don't know what you call
- 24:55him. But yeah, you switch out him and Yannis
- 24:59and yeah, just forget about it. OKC's already
- 25:04unstoppable. And Yannis, I want them to do it.
- 25:10Yeah. And by the way, I love this. It's fun to
- 25:13think about, man. We'll see how things play out.
- 25:16And if I'm OKC, I get on the phone. Oh, yeah.
- 25:20And I give them, I say, listen, take what you
- 25:25want. You know who are not going to give up,
- 25:27they're not going to give up SGA. You know, I
- 25:29don't see them give up, you know, giving up one
- 25:30of the Jaylins, you know, but I think Chet, Chet's
- 25:33absolutely on the table. Chet, I think the Bucks
- 25:35would be happy with Chet. And again, they have
- 25:38two possible lottery picks from other teams this
- 25:41season and then whatever else picks they have.
- 25:44So, and again, if you ever trust the team to
- 25:47make a trade and it work out, it's the OKC Thunder.
- 25:55This person that we're gonna talk about next
- 25:58is in a situation and his name's come up in the
- 26:01past few years as well about switching teams
- 26:04Being fired so it's not a player. It's a coach
- 26:08and again in the news lately is Mike Tomlin and
- 26:11the Pittsburgh Steelers Okay, and I Do you mind
- 26:18if I lead off on this for can I go first on this
- 26:20one? Full disclosure before the season started,
- 26:27and I have the proof, I said to you, do you remember
- 26:32what I said about the Steelers record? And I
- 26:35got laughed at. You said that it would be below
- 26:37500 for the first time in Tomlin's career. Mike
- 26:41Thomas career. I said this before the season
- 26:43that's out of your hate now It was it was mostly
- 26:47fueled by my Aaron Rodgers hatred Yes, and and
- 26:51by the way in he I mean we talked about it in
- 26:53the last episode like this is what Aaron Rodgers
- 26:56does Aaron Rodgers He could take a blowtorch
- 26:59to your locker room throwing people under the
- 27:01bus He doesn't like to take accountability for
- 27:03the things that he messes up That's neither here
- 27:06nor there but I kind of felt and I saw this coming
- 27:10and this is where I'm gonna try to be careful
- 27:14about how I frame this because these type of
- 27:19topics bother me in a lot of ways. A head coach
- 27:25with the resume of Mike Tomlin shouldn't be disrespected
- 27:32in the manner To where they grasp at the straws.
- 27:36They bring in Aaron Rodgers Hall of Fame level
- 27:38quarterback With an injury history into that
- 27:42historic franchise, you know, he gets injured
- 27:45Their season starts. It looks as if right now
- 27:48is gonna, you know go downhill But the thing
- 27:51that bothers me the most is that the second he
- 27:55slips Now they want to get rid of them Name a
- 28:00more stable organization that you would want,
- 28:02if you were a fan, that you would want, the Steelers
- 28:05have a competitive chance every single year.
- 28:08And then the second they slip up, it's like,
- 28:11oh, we gotta get a new coach. Who are you gonna
- 28:12get better than Mike Tomlin? Who? Who are you
- 28:16gonna get? And not only who are you gonna get
- 28:19that's better than Mike Tomlin, who are you gonna
- 28:22get that's gonna fix all the issues that you
- 28:24have with your roster? Who are you gonna get
- 28:27that's gonna... Make you more competitive in
- 28:29a crazy competitive division Who else are you
- 28:34gonna get that's gonna fix the problems that
- 28:37exists within the Steelers locker room and win
- 28:41games on the field I Don't To me it would be
- 28:47a bad short -sighted decision and it and I feel
- 28:52like it's one of these things that's talked about
- 28:54because it's so controversial. Like it's such
- 29:00a lightning rod of a discussion that I feel like
- 29:06the only reason that it's brought up is because
- 29:09it has some strong talking points to it. I don't
- 29:13think it's legitimate. There's nothing other
- 29:15than the speculation that says that the Steelers
- 29:20want to move on. from Mike Tomlin by the way
- 29:23who is what their third head coach in that franchise's
- 29:27entire history yeah like it's dumb like he's
- 29:31not i mean we've been talking about this dude
- 29:33we've been getting rid of Mike McDaniels in Miami
- 29:36for weeks and he still has a job now Dolphins
- 29:40are playing a little bit better but we all know
- 29:43that he's not a great head coach Tomlin's a great
- 29:46head coach And you guys want to get rid of him
- 29:49for who, for what, for why? Make it make sense
- 29:53to me, Kent. Please, I'm lost on this. Like I
- 29:57mentioned, it's come up the past probably few
- 30:00years. And there's been times where I kind of
- 30:04get on board and I'll be like, maybe it is time.
- 30:07Sometimes teams, franchises need a new voice.
- 30:11But as you mentioned, you know, you got to like,
- 30:13where are you going to find a better coach than
- 30:15Mike Tomlin? Again, never having a losing record.
- 30:20But I think it's, I forgot how many years now
- 30:23though in a row, it might be close to like 10,
- 30:25they didn't even one like a playoff game. So
- 30:29you gotta say, okay, historical franchise and
- 30:33you're kind of not 500, but you're average, right?
- 30:42So. Is it time for a new voice? Is it time for
- 30:46a new just direction? I don't you know, I'm not
- 30:50saying it is but the talk is to talk right and
- 30:54especially every time they They have a lot of
- 30:56talent. So every time they're not playing as
- 30:58well as they should Then it goes to the coach.
- 31:01Why is the defense this way? Why are they not
- 31:03winning? You know, whatever whatever now again
- 31:06give Tomlin credit Since Roethlisberger they
- 31:10have rotated quarterbacks almost like the Cleveland
- 31:14Browns, right? They try to plug people in there,
- 31:18Mason Rudolph, and then they had, you know, they've
- 31:21had their Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, now
- 31:24Aaron Rodgers. And I'm sure I'm missing somebody
- 31:27they had in the past. I think in the off season,
- 31:30they were looking at Sam Darnold. I don't think
- 31:32that would have helped them. So I will say this
- 31:37though. So Adam Schefter put out this week. Kind
- 31:41of after all the discussion on the morning shows
- 31:43and during the week that the Steelers are not
- 31:46going to fire Mike Tomlin But they have a decision
- 31:49to make next year after the season contract He
- 31:52has two years remaining on it 26 and a team option
- 31:55in 27 So they have to decide whether to pick
- 31:59up his option by March 1st So they'll have meetings
- 32:05all that fun stuff I'm in agreement, and I think
- 32:08Rex Ryan said it on Get Up, if Mike Tomlin, the
- 32:12Steelers, decide to move on, he will have a job
- 32:14tomorrow. And that's what we're saying. We're
- 32:19having a fun conversation saying, should they,
- 32:21shouldn't they? And if they do, then where would
- 32:23be a good spot? Where would it be a good spot
- 32:25for Mike Tomlin? And right now, the current openings
- 32:28are gonna be the New York Giants, the Tennessee
- 32:34Titans, right? And if I'm missing somebody, I
- 32:38apologize. I think those are the two teams that
- 32:40have fired coaches during the season. If we look
- 32:46at the Steelers, I'm gonna look at the Steelers
- 32:49record and then I'm gonna go look to see if there
- 32:50are any other teams. So the Steelers are six
- 32:52and six, is that correct? And they still have
- 32:57the Dolphins. Let's see, they have the Ravens,
- 33:05I'm sorry. Then they have the Dolphins then they
- 33:09have the Lions the Browns and the Ravens again
- 33:12This the Dolphins should be a win The Browns
- 33:20is a divisional game. It's going to be at Cleveland
- 33:22So who knows? What Cleveland Browns team you
- 33:26get what defense comes from that team and then
- 33:29again the two Ravens games is going to be a battle
- 33:32That could be a that could be either I don't
- 33:35think they win both of them. I think they split
- 33:36it or they lose both. And I don't think they're
- 33:39beating Detroit. I didn't want to interrupt you,
- 33:47man. To me, it doesn't matter if they lose every
- 33:52single game the rest of the year. Let's say they
- 33:55L the entire, the rest of the season. You still
- 33:59don't get rid of Tomlin. Yeah. To me, Tomlin,
- 34:03okay, and you are, from a basketball perspective,
- 34:06I know you love your Hornets, you're a Spurs
- 34:08fan. To me, Tomlin is in Greg Popovich territory
- 34:12as an NFL coach. It's harder to win games in
- 34:15the NFL than it is in the NBA period. but I'm
- 34:18just going to rattle off something about Greg
- 34:20Popovich because we never heard this shit about
- 34:22somebody getting the Spurs getting rid of Greg
- 34:25Popovich. Greg Popovich had to have a stroke
- 34:28in order for the for him to step down as the
- 34:31head coach. They haven't won a championship since
- 34:332014. Last time the Spurs won a championship.
- 34:37This is their resume since that championship.
- 34:402015 lost in the first round. 2016 conference
- 34:44semi -finals lost in that. 17 lost to the conference
- 34:47finals, 18 lost in the first round, 19 lost in
- 34:51the first round. And then every year since then
- 34:53they've missed the playoffs. And no one said
- 34:55get rid of Greg Popovich. Why? Because you knew
- 34:57that dude was great. You knew that he was the
- 35:00linchpin within your organization. And to get
- 35:04rid of him would have been blasphemous. And that
- 35:06was a gentleman that we know is much longer in
- 35:09the tooth. He was an older, older man. And you
- 35:13never heard, hey, let's just get rid of Greg
- 35:16Popovich. Now, of course, Popovich won way more
- 35:19championships and he coached, but he also had
- 35:22way better players. I think the problem that
- 35:27Mike Tomlin has is that he has mastered the art
- 35:31of getting the best out of what he has while
- 35:35being above mediocre. And it's unfortunately,
- 35:41it's going to work to his detriment in a lot
- 35:43of people's eyes. To me, I'm like, I would love
- 35:45to have a team that's competitive every year.
- 35:48So you have one bad year and now you're going
- 35:50to get rid of the dude. Like it's just, it's
- 35:52dumb. And, and I, and I'll, and I'll say this,
- 35:55like it's, there's been some years where they've
- 35:56missed the playoffs. I get it. But I mean, I'm
- 36:01looking at it since 2014, just random. Year because
- 36:06I guess well, I'll pick 2014 because that's the
- 36:08same as um as popovich Yeah, okay. So I mean
- 36:12so that one two three. I mean They've made the
- 36:16the playoffs eight years Since 2014 Like they've
- 36:22made they've made the playoffs. They may miss
- 36:24it this year. So they've had a shot He's been
- 36:26it's hard to make the playoffs, man We see good
- 36:29teams and good franchises miss the playoffs all
- 36:31the time and this guy keeps them competitive
- 36:34without a quarterback. Yeah, I know. I mean,
- 36:38after Ben Roethlisberger, they should have fallen
- 36:41off a cliff. It's hard to find good starting
- 36:43quarterback talent. And when teams have them,
- 36:46they don't give them up. I get it. And he's still
- 36:50able to find ways to win games. So even if they
- 36:52were to lose out the rest of the year, go ahead.
- 36:54You know what, Steelers, if y 'all want to get
- 36:56rid of them, if y 'all want to try something
- 36:57else, good luck, because you're not going to
- 37:01find somebody as solid. And as consistent as
- 37:03Mike Tomlin is, and everybody wants to get Ring
- 37:06happy, and they want their team to be in the
- 37:07championship every year, only one team can win
- 37:09a Super Bowl every year. And they're in a stack,
- 37:13and he's playing in the AFC during the Mahomes
- 37:17regime. Come on, man. It's just, it's not going
- 37:21to happen. Like it's hard. It's tough. Everybody's
- 37:24going to take L's, but I just, I'm sick of the,
- 37:27Hey, let's rush to, to fire guys. And it's like,
- 37:30okay, well you got to fire. Hey, I got a nice
- 37:32car that runs. Not the best car in the world,
- 37:35but it's got some decent miles on it. My tires
- 37:37are good. The engine's running great. And it's
- 37:39like, Oh, okay. You're going to sell that car
- 37:40and go get what? Yeah. I would compare it to,
- 37:45you know, when the Eagles got rid of Andy Reed.
- 37:50and Tomlin obviously has been in Pittsburgh longer.
- 37:55But the one good thing, like I said, I agree
- 37:56with everything you said. I'm not saying to get
- 37:58rid of Tomlin. You know, he's never flamed out.
- 38:04Like Andy Reid crashed out in Philly. Like it
- 38:06got bad. Like it just flamed out, crashed, and
- 38:09then they were like, okay, it's Tom. Belichick,
- 38:13flamed out, crashed in New England. Ego got in
- 38:18the way with ownership, things like that. I don't
- 38:21see that with Tomlin and the Steelers. Like I
- 38:25said, I agree 100 % with you. It's fun to think
- 38:29about if they would let him go and then what
- 38:32team would be best, like I said, because I know
- 38:34it would be in a heartbeat the next day someone
- 38:38would hire him as their head coach. Yeah, I don't
- 38:44think the Steelers have a coaching problem. I
- 38:46think they have a, you know, getting the right
- 38:52talent problem. Like, you know, like, the GM
- 38:55or whoever is making these decisions, why are
- 38:58you not going out getting a younger quarterback?
- 39:00Why didn't you draft Shador Sanders? Why didn't
- 39:03you? You know what I mean? Like, things like
- 39:05that. Like, and I know he has a say in it, but
- 39:09it is kind of like, okay, you gotta get a quarterback
- 39:12to win in this league. You can have this defense.
- 39:17Like I said before, you got to have more than
- 39:19one receiver. So, you know, add in Thielen. Let's
- 39:23see if that helps him the rest of the year. And
- 39:26again, yeah, I'll take it every day. Being competitive,
- 39:30being around a winning record, you'll take that
- 39:33every year. You'll take that because again, like
- 39:35I said, he makes something out of nothing. And
- 39:39again, like Schefter said, they're not going
- 39:41to fire him. He's got at least a year, two years
- 39:44left. So we're just, you know, a lot of times
- 39:48this stuff comes up and it's something to talk
- 39:51about. I figured we would join the party and
- 39:53talk about it. You know, they got to, they got
- 39:56to feel airtime on the network. So, you know,
- 40:00it helps. It's just talking points. And it helps
- 40:02us on this episode of our podcast. It does and
- 40:07I'll I'll end it on this because you you you
- 40:11typically don't have Freudian slips like this
- 40:13I don't think you could have used a worst name
- 40:16than Andy Reid That was a horrible horrible because
- 40:21well one because Andy Reid only had one bad year
- 40:25at the end in Philly One bad year and then the
- 40:28Eagles moved on Again still one bad year left
- 40:35and then probably probably after leaving the
- 40:41eagles and going to Kansas City made the Super
- 40:45Bowl I'm sorry made the playoffs two out of the
- 40:47first three years and then only all he did was
- 40:50win his division every year since 2016 go to
- 40:54five Super Bowls and win but I think it so okay
- 40:56but it could be a good I think it is a good comparison
- 40:59because if Tomlin if the Steelers would be like
- 41:02Philly and get rid of could be great for Tomlin.
- 41:06He very well. It could be great. It could be
- 41:08great. He could go to a franchise and turn them
- 41:11around and have the run of Andy Reed. Like again,
- 41:14you put Tomlin on the New York. He put him on
- 41:16the New York Giants coaching that team. The talent
- 41:21that the young, the young talent. You know what
- 41:23I'm saying? A team like that. If the Steelers
- 41:26would be dumb enough to get rid of Tomlin, he
- 41:29could go on that run. Hold on. And that's my
- 41:33because if Andy Reid didn't leave the Eagles
- 41:37in shame, he didn't leave the Eagles in shame,
- 41:41the Tomlin one feels differently. And again,
- 41:44like I said, if the Steelers get rid of him,
- 41:47if the Steelers move on from him, fine. It will
- 41:51be the dumbest mistake that they made. Because
- 41:54I could see him going somewhere, you let your
- 41:57riches leave the door, walk out the door and
- 42:00go somewhere else. and enrich someone else and
- 42:03turn someone else around. And by the way, I mean,
- 42:05I would like that. That's a Cinderella story
- 42:08for me, man. If that dude ends up going to the
- 42:10Giants, it makes New York football relevant.
- 42:13Dude, I mean, imagine if he turned the Jets around.
- 42:16Yeah. Oh, imagine if he turned the Jets. They
- 42:20need a quarterback. I understand that, but I'm
- 42:24just saying, if he's able to turn things around,
- 42:29you know, it would be incredible. So, I mean,
- 42:32we'll have to see. Nobody thought Mahomes was
- 42:33going to turn into this. So Andy Reid got lucky
- 42:35in a lot of ways. The Chiefs weren't good and
- 42:39they made the, you know, he immediately made
- 42:42the trade for Alex Smith. Again, went and got
- 42:44a quarterback and then again drafted Mahomes
- 42:48and Drafted my homes and then and then and then
- 42:52and then pulled and then pulled him to the side
- 42:54and was like yeah, man we're gonna take this
- 42:55young kid and just and just Destroy everybody
- 42:58in the playoffs for the next decade. So yeah,
- 43:01I mean good for them, man I I hope it things
- 43:04works out well for Tomlin. I really do that would
- 43:06be a great and I think is it I don't think he's
- 43:08going anywhere, but Yeah Let's see. Yeah, we'll
- 43:12see how it plays out Let's talk about cp3 back
- 43:20to the NBA and that great another I don't even
- 43:24know they're not a great franchise but But cp3
- 43:28Chris Paul is a legend. Yes, Chris ball is a
- 43:31legend one of the greatest point guards of all
- 43:34time and Or so how do you how do you how are
- 43:39we gonna describe this because they the Clippers
- 43:42sent him home? From a game there. There's all
- 43:45these reports and Again, it's a lot of speculation
- 43:51which seems to be commonplace in the NBA where
- 43:54there's not really a concrete Hey, this is exactly
- 43:58what happened. Here are the facts that we know
- 44:00We know that Chris Paul has not played a lot
- 44:03for the Clippers We know that Chris Paul has
- 44:05not been playing well for the Clippers and we
- 44:08know that There was a report that came out, I
- 44:11believe it was Chris Haynes, I think I sent that
- 44:13to you. Chris Haynes reported that he had requested
- 44:16to have some conversations with Tai Lu, their
- 44:18head coach, who, by the way, who quietly was
- 44:23implicated in another gambling scandal, but somehow,
- 44:28you know... He can still coach the team. It's
- 44:30weird. He's connected to everybody that was involved
- 44:34in that scandal. A lot of those guys. Everybody
- 44:36that was involved in that scandal. And they just
- 44:39allow him to stand on the sideline and coach
- 44:40those games like nothing ever happened. But he
- 44:45requested a conversation with Ty Lue, and that
- 44:47was rejected based on the reports. And then they
- 44:51ended up sending Chris Paul home. In the middle
- 44:53of the night. Those are facts that we know. Like
- 44:56two o 'clock in the morning, right? Two o 'clock
- 44:58in the morning? Yeah, two, three, two, three
- 45:00a .m. in the morning. They in it from Atlanta
- 45:03sent him home. So now Chris Paul is one of those
- 45:09players that has a reputation of taking the basketball
- 45:12craft very seriously. I respect that because
- 45:16we see a lot of guys disrespect the NBA in a
- 45:19lot of ways. And I'll give credit to Michael
- 45:22Jordan. He says it that he feels like he's from
- 45:27a different era where he wanted to go out and
- 45:30that one guy that's way up in the 300 section
- 45:33that hates his guts, that's the guy way up there
- 45:36that he wants to shut up. I feel like Chris Paul
- 45:39is like that in a lot of ways where this is something
- 45:42that he loves and he has a passion for the sport.
- 45:45that is rare for a small point guard like that.
- 45:49We saw how he's turned franchises around. We
- 45:52saw what he did at OKC. It was amazing. I want
- 45:57to see how this thing is going to play out. It
- 46:00stinks that he announces that this is going to
- 46:03be his last season. And then within a matter
- 46:05of days, this is what comes out about him. When
- 46:09you saw the news, What was kind of your first
- 46:12reaction like what hit you the hardest when you
- 46:15caught this about CP3? That again, the Clippers
- 46:20are involved in something negative this season
- 46:23That doesn't really have to do with basketball
- 46:27it well it does and it doesn't right it's how
- 46:30Chris Paul went to the Clippers because I think
- 46:33he knew it was gonna be his last season He had
- 46:36a lot of success there. So he wanted to end with
- 46:39the franchise that We could probably say he had
- 46:42the most success, right? Make some may argue,
- 46:45you know, New Orleans. That's fair But the Clippers
- 46:48was the one where he I mean, I mean listen know
- 46:51if you if you could say I mean I say I Would
- 46:54say that Chris Paul is the greatest Clipper ever.
- 46:57Yeah. I mean he made that franchise relevant
- 46:59along, you know, but So yeah, so when you say
- 47:03they just sent him home Because they can't was
- 47:07they they can release them. They can't trade
- 47:10them Yeah, so they still have them but yeah,
- 47:15I mean it's it's kind of disrespectful And I
- 47:20know we talked about well, did he request it
- 47:23did this happen to this blah blah blah But to
- 47:28do a guy like that And we talk about a franchise
- 47:32and we talk about respect and legends and guys
- 47:35what they've done for your franchise It's kind
- 47:38of it kind of struck me too that they would do
- 47:40Chris Paul this way But like you said they're
- 47:45standing behind Talu and they're standing behind
- 47:49Kawhi Leonard You know, it's kind of they are
- 47:53and scandal and Chris Paul is just trying to
- 47:56say hey guys like You know, he may not be producing
- 48:00on the court. But again, he's a 47 year old point
- 48:02guard We know that, we know that his time is
- 48:06done. Yeah, with bad knees, with bad knees. We
- 48:08know that his time is coming up, right? But,
- 48:13the way this franchise has been this year, and
- 48:15he's been there, and he's probably seen firsthand
- 48:18the outcome or the fallout from the scandal with
- 48:25Kawhi, all the rumors about that. But think about
- 48:30this too. Like you said coming from another era
- 48:34different type of player Is there I mean think
- 48:40about Chris Paul these guys weren't on the team
- 48:43when he was a Clipper he comes back and he's
- 48:46with Kawhi play every other game Leonard and
- 48:52James Harden Who James Harden is balling and
- 48:58I've never questioned James Harden's effort maybe
- 49:01on defense But he's balling, you know what I
- 49:04mean? But again, like I always said though, how
- 49:09are you gonna win with guys who are losers? Like
- 49:13James Harden, again, he doesn't win. You're a
- 49:17franchise who's never won. And again, CP3 is
- 49:21kind of in that category again. But again, at
- 49:24least I respect his game, right? I mean, he plays
- 49:26the game on both ends of the court. He's a leader.
- 49:31and he was trying to give some advice. And there
- 49:35was another video I saw recently, and I didn't
- 49:37tell you about this earlier, and it was someone
- 49:41was videoing a practice, and James Harden, Chris
- 49:44Paul's talking, and I think it was Chris Paul
- 49:46wanting to tell James Harden they wanted to name
- 49:48the play. Well, then Ty Lue's going over the
- 49:52play, and Harden's like, oh, well, you know,
- 49:54CP3 said this. Ty Lue's response was, fcp3 This
- 50:02is what we're doing So lack of respect I'm kind
- 50:08of surprised from Lou Apparently, you know Maybe
- 50:13they just don't get along. You know, I don't
- 50:15know what it is. But again, I just go back to
- 50:18The franchise that was my first initial thought
- 50:21was another Another negative story about the
- 50:25Clippers It's only at the you know was it November
- 50:28at the time December Yeah, so it's like man the
- 50:32season is literally like a month and a half and
- 50:36the Clippers have Nothing good going on If it's
- 50:41not kawaii Steve Ballmer this whole that whole
- 50:44thing now you got the scant You know tie loose
- 50:47somewhat connected to the gambling They suck
- 50:50and then you say Chris Paul all these things
- 50:54going on but We're going to kick you. We're going
- 50:57to send you home because we don't want to hear
- 50:58from you. So now and I'm going to play a little
- 51:03bit of devil's advocate here because there had
- 51:06been some, a lot of the whispers about Chris
- 51:08Paul and him calling guys out in the locker room.
- 51:12And, and I respect that because he's naming names
- 51:15and it was all done internally. None of these
- 51:18things came out about Chris Paul until after
- 51:20they sent him home, which is one of the glaring
- 51:23points that I want to make. So if it was such
- 51:26a problem, we know how NBA locker rooms work.
- 51:29You just leak a little something to a reporter
- 51:31if you want to sully a guy's name to try to get
- 51:34ahead of the story. But the other interesting
- 51:37thing about this is the Clippers organization
- 51:41as a whole, and I know that you said it was kind
- 51:43of a different, it was a different roster at
- 51:45the time when he played there, but the Clippers
- 51:47front office was the same post Donald Sterling.
- 51:53So when Steve Ballmer and everybody came in they
- 51:55knew what type of player they were bringing in
- 51:57and honest like Chris Paul's Chris Paul He's
- 51:59always been like this. This isn't new, right?
- 52:01So if anybody knew what type of player they were
- 52:04gonna bring in that could disrupt the flow in
- 52:06the chemistry It's like you bring in a vocal
- 52:09undersized Hall of Fame point guard when the
- 52:14best player on your team is a Quiet forward that
- 52:18stays injured who has allegedly been taking money
- 52:21off the books because he's got this special,
- 52:23you know, cutaway deal with the owner. You brought
- 52:27this guy in willingly. You didn't have to sign
- 52:29him. You know, maybe you thought Chris Paul was
- 52:32gonna come in and be quiet. You thought Chris
- 52:34Paul was gonna come in and be okay with mediocrity.
- 52:37You thought that Chris Paul was gonna come in
- 52:38and not call people out. And we can sit here
- 52:41and talk. And I understand the thing you're saying
- 52:42about Talu and all that. But I'm gonna say, let's
- 52:45just say that. Let's take whatever the negative
- 52:48press has been about Chris Paul. Let's take it
- 52:50and put it at 10. Let's put it at its absolute
- 52:53worst. He still doesn't deserve this. Period.
- 52:58Because the one thing that we know is that And
- 53:03this is a guy who, I mean, wasn't he like the
- 53:05head of the players association? Like he's been
- 53:08a basketball first guy his entire career. And
- 53:12now all of a sudden, you want me to think that
- 53:14he is the problem? You want me to think that
- 53:17he's the bad guy in this when he's never shown
- 53:20it? And like you said, Kawhi Harden, Steve Ballmer,
- 53:27Tai Lu, those guys have, let's just say, questionable
- 53:33characteristics about them at this moment. We
- 53:37can talk about Harden and his lack of effort
- 53:39on the court, him crashing in games and poor
- 53:42fitness. We could talk about Kawhi, you know,
- 53:45constantly being injured, cutting side deals
- 53:48with the owner. The owner, same thing. Billionaire,
- 53:51all the money, all of that scandal. And then
- 53:54Talu literally in gambling involved scandals.
- 53:58But you want me to think that Chris Paul is the
- 54:00issue. Hell out of here. And I see a lot of former
- 54:03players, namely, I see Kendrick Perkins trying
- 54:06to get the buzz and, you know, saying the stuff
- 54:08that CP3 was warned about, you know, have his
- 54:12behavior in quotes. He never went into specifics.
- 54:16Tell me what CP3 was doing. What? Because he
- 54:18wants a higher standard as a basketball team.
- 54:20Something's wrong with that. Y 'all got a problem
- 54:22with that. Hell out of here, man. You know what,
- 54:26maybe all of this worked out for the best, because
- 54:29I don't think, I think, and maybe you were trying
- 54:32to say this, Kent, and maybe I kind of took this,
- 54:35I grabbed this flame from you. But what I think
- 54:39you were trying to say is, is no matter how this
- 54:42washes out, this still makes Chris Paul look
- 54:45better than the Clippers ever will. Yeah, they're
- 54:49trying to make him look bad. And by the way,
- 54:52Lawrence Frank, Tai Lu, when they get on a microphone.
- 54:55Oh my god I forgot about Lawrence Frank. I forgot
- 54:58about that asshole. They're lying out their teeth.
- 55:01Basically anytime now I see this is how I feel
- 55:04about the Clippers. Steve Barmer used to be the
- 55:06fun owner and you're like oh yeah man I like
- 55:08that guy. Now when he talks I don't believe him.
- 55:11You roll your eyes. I don't trust him. When Kawhi
- 55:13talks I ain't trusted that dude in a while but
- 55:16you know I don't trust him. I don't believe what
- 55:19he says. Because he's just denying everything.
- 55:21Now, Ty Lou, I feel different about him, Lawrence
- 55:24Frank. Because like you said, I don't come out
- 55:28of this thinking negatively about Chris Paul.
- 55:30And I've not always been the Chris Paul guy.
- 55:33I'm not a huge fan. Even though he's from North
- 55:37Carolina, I respect his game. I respect everything
- 55:39about that. He's just not been my guy, right?
- 55:42I mean, I just haven't. And I agree with you
- 55:45there. And I was an anti -Chris Paul guy for
- 55:47a long time. I don't trust guys that hit guys
- 55:50in the nuts consistently. So I'm with you, but
- 55:53I mean, I got the cape up for him. This is one
- 55:58of these moments where everything that preceded
- 56:02Chris Paul as a professional basketball guy gets
- 56:08to, I don't care how stink this situation is,
- 56:11man, the 20 years before covers all that up.
- 56:16And you're not gonna lead me to believe that
- 56:18they've got the super team Avengers over there
- 56:23and Kawhi Balmer, Lawrence Frank, Ty Lou and
- 56:25James Harden. And then all of a sudden, those
- 56:28guys are pristine, but not Chris Paul. Hell out
- 56:31of here, man. It ain't gonna work with me. And
- 56:33I'm glad it's not gonna work with you either,
- 56:35but it doesn't make a lot of sense. And maybe
- 56:37this works out for the best. I hope they do let
- 56:40Chris Paul go. And maybe, you know what, maybe
- 56:43send him to New Orleans. Maybe send him back
- 56:45to Charlotte and let him get that love and let
- 56:47him get that admiration in his final season that
- 56:49he deserves. He deserves that and it stinks that
- 56:53they kind of took the wind out from under Chris
- 56:55Paul. I don't like it, man. It's a terrible -
- 56:58Yeah, I would love for him to come to Charlotte
- 57:02and give some of his knowledge to LaMelo and
- 57:07these young guys. Know that you know he knows
- 57:10he's not going to play a lot and produce a lot
- 57:12again. This is final season so yeah rather than
- 57:16New Orleans because He may get he may get a huge
- 57:19headache down there too with you know the things
- 57:22they do But Charlotte at least I think is building
- 57:27a better culture organizationally and they're
- 57:32in Charles Lee with the team and the young group.
- 57:35So, yeah, I would rather him come to Charlotte,
- 57:37finish out at home in North Carolina rather than,
- 57:42you know, plug on to another team. You know,
- 57:44I don't think he's ring chasing or nothing like
- 57:46that. He just wanted a nice sendoff, man. And
- 57:49the Clippers screwed that up. And I think you
- 57:52mentioned, like, do they, you know, man, do they
- 57:54even retire his number now? Will it take years
- 57:56to mend this relationship? But it depends on
- 58:01who's in charge and who's in management. Yeah,
- 58:05and I don't I don't see it and if I'm crisp again
- 58:07Chris Paul's gonna be fine. I'm pretty sure this
- 58:10hurts I'm pretty sure this stings and the the
- 58:14smear campaign that they put out Against him
- 58:16trying to make him look like the bad guy in this
- 58:18situation. I think it's just I'm kind of grasping
- 58:21for straws. I Think this ends well for Chris
- 58:25Paul and hopefully he gets to send off that he
- 58:28deserves. I hope so All right, that's another
