- 0:40Speaker 1: All right, let's go.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Kat Von D is a famous tattoo artist known for her work on the TLC reality show LA Inc.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Until recently, she was heavily involved in witchcraft and the occult, but a year ago, she started a journey that culminated in her giving her life to Jesus.
- 0:58Speaker 1: She posted a video of her baptism online and more than 5 million people watched it.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Now, the fallout among her largely secular audience was predictable, but bizarrely, she was also met with skepticism and doubt from Christians.
- 1:12Speaker 1: She took to her Instagram account to share how they had accused her of staging her baptism for attention and had criticized her pagan appearance.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Other commentators rejected the validity of the ceremony because her hands never went under the water.
- 1:26Speaker 1: What you can't annoy Jesus more than this kind of behavior.
- 1:30Speaker 1: In his short time on earth, he encountered all sorts of immorality and corruption, and yet he reserved his harshest anger for the judgementalism of the Pharisees and religious elite.
- 1:39Speaker 1: In Matthew 2327, he says what do you teach us of the law in Pharisees?
- 1:44Speaker 1: You hypocrites?
- 1:46Speaker 1: You are like whitewashed tombs which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but I am nothing like those Pharisees.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I mean, what idiots.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I only judge those who judge others.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Oh wait, I'm confused.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Maybe I am guilty.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Also Look like pride or arrogance.
- 2:09Speaker 1: No one ever thinks they are susceptible to engaging in it, and yet we almost all certainly are.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Paradoxically, judgementalism is as hidden as it is ubiquitous.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I often speak at churches and recently I reviewed a talk I had given on evangelism.
- 2:24Speaker 1: In it I shared that no matter how attractive we make our services or how entertaining our sermons, people are not coming to us.
- 2:31Speaker 1: We have to go to them.
- 2:33Speaker 1: The content was right, but my heart was not.
- 2:36Speaker 1: My words were harsh and my tone was unloving.
- 2:39Speaker 1: The message gave off a I am better than you, vibe, because frankly, that's how I felt as I listened to my own message.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I was embarrassed.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I was a Pharisee and I didn't even realize it.
- 2:50Speaker 1: So what's the answer?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Do we just swear off all judgment?
- 2:53Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Sinking into the mire of relativism is not the answer and, honestly, it's not something we can even live out.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It's not about whether we should judge, it's about how we do it.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Jesus strongly opposes judgmentalism because it's antithetical to the cross.
- 3:10Speaker 1: By dying for the sins of the world, jesus eliminated all bragging rights.
- 3:14Speaker 1: No one can boast, all fall short and everyone is in debt to what he did.
- 3:19Speaker 1: When I really come to understand this, it revolutionizes how I view others.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I still see right and wrong, even in other people, but having a holier than thou attitude becomes impossible.
- 3:31Speaker 1: There is a critical distinction between judgment and judgmentalism, and it was the latter that invoked the wrath of Jesus.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Look, let's love people enough to tell them what's true, but let's do it as fellow struggleers.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I pray that the cross would be fixed in front of my eyes as a constant reminder of what Jesus did for me, so that when I feel led to point out someone else's attitudes or actions that are wrong, it would be with great fear and trembling.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But of course, that won't be necessary because I never judge anyone right, all right.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Well, that's it for Provoke and Inspire Quick Hit.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I hope you enjoyed this.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Share this episode with someone if you feel like they need to hear it, but don't judge them, obviously.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Just do it humbly.
- 4:14Speaker 1: If you love this content, please share it, please review it, leave a comment, all those things, otherwise I'll talk to you next time, peace.
